The cable it self Feels very well made the Main cable coming from the Xbox connection port is very thick and shielded very well, then it splits off to the VGA/Audio side. The audio side of the cable still remains thick while the VGA cable Thins up.

The RCA Jacks are huge suckers, And they're heavy (compared to other RCA Connection jacks) with a Copper plated ring and Pin for connecting to your device.

I use Optical Audio, and have no means of Connecting this Audio RCA jacks to determine their quality.

The optical Output seats nicely, However i had to change my Audio Output on my 360 to Optical Stereo (Not 5.1 or Surround) otherwise i just got an Unbearable whine. However that could just be the Input for the Optical on my computer not Supporting Dolby Surround or 5.1.

The video quality is about as good as you would expect for VGA, nothing fancy but it gets the job done. Did not notice Any ghosting while Playing Halo: Reach, COD: MW3, and various other titles.

I used a KVM Switch and a XIM edge for my Setup, and needed this cable to Tie into my Dual Screen setup and Allows for Quick and easy swapping between my Xbox output (with the VGA Cable) and my Computer (uses DVI)

Also, just to throw it in what i'm viewing this cable through is a Dell 23" LED flatscreen.

All in All, if you're looking to have your Xbox ran through a Computer monitor (Or a TV with an Optional VGA input) this cable would work. However the Bigger the Screen the more chances you will run into of Ghosting. Regardless if you have a High Quality cable or some cheap made knock-off.. It's the nature of VGA to do that, and not really the Cables fault.

This is a great alternative to the expensive Microsoft product. It even comes with the audio converter so you don't have to purchase it separately . The quality is also great, i havent experienced any "ghosting" even at a higher quality

Got this cable as a graduation gift for my bro. Since I bought it used and it wasn't the official one, I immediately tested out on my computer monitor and it works just as good as the official Microsoft one. If you want a quality Xbox 360 VGA Cable for cheap, go with this one. You won't regret it.

Xbox 360/PS3 - Wireless Gaming Network

Okay, I don't write many reviews unless the item makes a huge impact in the quality of life, and this one did.

1. This adapter is multi-functional and everyone should have at least one of these in their home.

a. This adapter will hook up to your PS3, and Xbox 360 with ease and run flawlessly

b. This item can also be used on various other devices such as your Direct T.V. box and your internet ready T.V. if your T.V didn't come with a wireless interface. For example, my Mitsubishi 73738 didn't come with a wireless card built in, so I connected one of my Madcatz adapter to its Ethernet port to obtain internet for the T.V. Likewise, you can use this device to give your Direct T.V. box access to the internet without using a hard line. I am using an HR-22 box from Direct T.V. just so you know.

Hook up is not that hard, I bypassed the CD entirely and hooked it up manually. However, this can be a pain for anyone who has not hooked up a device like this manually before. I will leave the procedure below to help you set yours.

1. Whatever computer you plan to configure this device with, disconnect it from the internet, UNLESS its hooked up wirelessly, then you can leave it connected.

2. go into your configuration for your ethernet port on your computer and change the IP address to 10.10.10.4 with a subnet of 255.255.255.0

3. After you do that, connect the Madcatz adapter to your Ethernet port. Next, open a browser and type in 10.10.10.254 and hit enter. You should now be looking at the login screen for your Madcatz adapter. Both the username and password is admin.

4. Once your logged into the adapter, select the folder that says, Site Survey.

5. Click the radio button next to your router or the router you want this device to use for the internet, then select Add Profile.

6. A window will pop up. Add in the same encryption that is on your router here along with the phrase or keyword used to access this router. When you are done here, click apply and your done. Dont forget to set your computers IP address back to "Obtain IP by DHCP" or whatever it was set to prior to configuring this Mad Catz Adapter. Incidentally, I am currently on the internet using the mad catz adapter on my laptop.

Side notes, and summary;

1. You must changed your computers LAN (Local Area Connection) IP address (not your Wireless Network Connection) to 10.10.10.4; subnet 255.255.255.0 do not skip this step

2. Hook up Madcatz to your Ethernet Port, bring up a browser, type 10.10.10.254, and login using username; admin, password admin

3. Access and configure ONLY the Site Survey folder, don't open any other folder, YOU DON'T NEED THEM!. If you do, and you dont know what your doing, consider yourself screwed.

4. Select your router in the list of routers you see and hit Add Profile. 9 times out of 10, this area will already be configured with the encryption of your router. The only thing you normally have to update is the encryption phrase or passkey. Your adapter will normally pull all the information it needs to configure itself, however it will need you to enter whatever the passkey or phrase is.

5. Click apply, close the browser, disconnect the router from your computer and hook it up to your Xbox to test.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION TO UNDERSTAND

1. Be aware that your router maybe older and if you haven't updated the firmware in awhile, now maybe a good time. This is a newer device.

2. If this device disconnects from the network periodically, it may have lost its DHCP address and needs a new one. I suggest telling your router to lease the address to the MadCatz Adapter indefinitely, so there is no overlap and conflicting addresses.

3. I strongly suggest using the Web based application only to set up this device. Contrary to earlier post by others, you DO NOT need the CD to set this device up through Web based.

4. Finally, if you set this device up correctly, its extremely fast. Its faster than my D-Link USB Wireless N. Testing this device against a USB D-LINK wireless N was no contest. The madcatz adapter hooked up to my laptop performed faster, downloading page request from the internet quickly. As noted earlier, this device can be used to provide wireless to a range of devices to include, desktop computers, laptops, Xbox360, internet ready T.V's, PS3, DIRECTV and so on (I've tested this device on most of these).

Good luck!

I'd thought mine was broken cause I was following all the instructions from various sources. It turns out there's one thing you MIGHT have to do that no one mentioned to me. I'll note a couple of small issues here some people might get caught by.

1. One reviewer on a different website claimed their unit didn't hold it's settings if it was powered off. This may cause problems in using the adapter for some, but mine didn't have that problem.

2. In my case, the only thing that was actually holding me back from getting it to work? The xbox 360 needed to be set back to it's factory defaults. After that it connected like a charm, no problem in the slightest.

I don't really know any other tips to give that aren't covered right there in the manual, it's really very simple besides such small issues.

Best Deals for Xbox 360/PS3 - Wireless Gaming Network

This wireless N adapter works flawlessly. The nay sayers consider it an inconvenience to have to connect it to your PC first but it's easy as 1-2-3. It takes less than 3 minutes to configure and you are up and running. I was lucky enough to pick this up from an Amazon seller for $20.00 and is well worth the $49.00 that most Amazon sellers are selling it for. It's cheaper than the Microsoft adapter and well worth it. The other reviewers must have had other home network issues because it is a breeze to get up and running. I was enable to configure it in Windows 7 64 Bit with zero problems. There are many negative revies on this product here at Amazon but let me tell you this thing has worked flawlessly quite a few days now. The key is not to use auto channel selection within your wireless router settings. This thing is so easy to configure Stevie Wonder could do it. You don't have to be a computer tech to set it up. If you just use the disc that comes with it and follow the on screen instructions you should have no problem. If you find yourself in the network adapter properties of your computer in Windows 7 just keep clicking every item in the box until the property tab allows you to select it. Then set the ip to the one suggested on setup. When you'r done just change it back to obtain ip address automatically. If you set it up properly you wont be dissapointed.

Honest reviews on Xbox 360/PS3 - Wireless Gaming Network

After reading over many of the other reviews I thought to my self, "I can do this." I really didn't think it would be a big deal at all.

My first attempt to get this thing hooked up I chose to configure it via the web method with the CD. I went through all of the steps which the CD lays out for you very well. Step by step it really only take about 15 minutes using the CD. However after finishing the process I went back to my 360 hooked it up fired it up and....NOTHING. So that made me a little frustrated.

The Second attempt: I go back to my router and I knew that I had a WPS button on my router so I decide to give that method a shot. Again the CD walks a person through all of the steps very well and leaves fairly little room for human error so long as you are able to follow instructions. However this all ended with the same result. So now I'm not frustrated. I'm Mad. I just paid a bunch of money for an item that does not work. So I gave myself a cooling off period and I let it be for a few days.

Third Attempt: I decide to go back and do the web method again and follow the CD walk-through again. Maybe I did something wrong the first time. I go through all of the steps and hook it back up and to my surprise it tapped right into X Box Live and I was on playing Modern Warfare 2 without any problems....

However soon after that I found that it was having an increasing difficulty connecting with my router. I found that rebooting the modem sometimes helps, rebooting the router helps sometimes, rebooting the product under review helped sometimes. However now it does not seem to be working well at all as I have not been able to get onto X Box live for three days now and this is more than a little annoying. In this case read the negative reviews and understand the risk you are taking before you buy this plastic piece of garbage.

If I were to start this over again. I would by the Microsoft adapter and would have been done with it.

My computer is in my room and we have an xbox in our living room. so i unplugged it an took it to the other room and plugged it in. and it nothing.... so i unplugged it took it back to my bedroom plugged it back in and the wireless wasnt connected anymore. Sup dreamcast gurus! I just got Rush 2049 a couple days ago. It is the best thing I own. First, the graphics are slick, colorful and smooth, with little slowdown. Second, the sound is realistic and the techno soundtrack is awesome. Third, the gameplay. Oh god the gameplay. You get an "I'm not worthy" feeling when you see a sweet shortcut and realize by taking it you're missing about 20 more, the levels are so huge. For example...I drove up the side of a building, straight up, and landed. There was a whole network of other buildings up there that you could jump on to grab more bonus coins, or simply jump 1000 feet to your doom. How's that for complexity? How's this for a competitive edge--you are driving along, some jerk is in front of you and has cut you off. You hit a red switch on the ground and blam!!!! out comes a huge stone fist from a wall, out of nowhere, that smears him, while you zoom by him. Funniest thing in the world. Also, there are plenty of things to unlock so you'll never be bored (160 coins to find). The stunt mode is creative and mind-blowing. The wings let you do tricks you've never thought possible. Plus, the battle mode which is singlehandedly better than the whole Twisted Metal series is sweet. The weapons are hilarious too. Why buy stiff, stuffy, boring racing games where all you do is circle the same track repetitively (like Gran Turismo)? Why not hurtle through a windy clear full-pipe at 180 mph and fly past the competition instead of worry about "torque" and "cornering" and your geeky italian sports cars? Buy Rush instead.

OK, so you like racing games....thats great, I don't really. But there is this battle mode in this San Francisco Rush 2049 game that is wicked ru. I have been playing nonstop for close to 2 years and I never get tired of it. The physics are excellent, and well are the courses. You keep discovering new jumps and possiblities with each play. The weapons are perfectly designed. There are limes, tube stick, pews, green gun, machinis, emp, balls, and assram. Of course these are the names we came up for the warpens, but you can make an argument that any one of these is the best weapon in the game. they are complement each other perfectly. This game is absolutely perfect, the only downside is you have to play the racing and stunt mode to unlock all the cars! stoop.

The battle mode for this game will force you to quit your job and use your last pay check on energy drinks. You will wonder why games like this havnt been made since then and if they do exist where are they?

Honest reviews on San Francisco Rush 2049

It doesn't matter if you are black... or white. This is the most exciting, challenging, strategimus oriented multiplayer in the history of games. It requires supreme tactimus to execute a long-distance greening, or aggressive lime-maying. There is an obvious advantage if you can gain control of tubesticks and limes, but the tables can turn if you get bubble and regain the limes. That is of course unless someone does the deed!

I can't really speak for the single player version of this game, but if you've got 4 people to play the multiplayer battle mode, it is absolutely the greatest thing ever. Even in 2012, there isn't any game that is better than a good 4 person battle mode session.

So i went to game stop yesturday just to look around and i saw this game. i remember playing the one on the nes and how much fun i had and im a big baseball fan so i had to pick it up. first they start off with all the training you will need for the game. this is for begginers or experienced gamers. you have auto where the computer does pretty much everything for you and you just run, or you have easy where you do a little bit more but still not everything, then you have technical where you control the whole field. of course hitting and pitching you always do. this game takes a little while to get the hang of. hitting can be hard sometimes but when you so get a hit or hit that homerun it is very rewarding. they also have powerups where you have a bar that builds up for all your good plays and you can use this to your advantage. you can rob homeruns you wouldnt be able to rob or catch balls you wouldnt be able to catch. you also have one star player who you normally want as your pitcher because when he buids his stats up you can get a star performace whitch pretty much guarentted a strikout or hit a homerun. i havnt tried all of the mini games but the ones i have seem fun. you can play up to for players, and battle in the mini games to. if you enjoy baseball and are looking for a fun game this is the game for you. when you go threw the world series you start from you league then reginals then the world series. you get skill points that you can give to your whole team or just one player after every game the disision is up to you. some of the trophies are easy but its not gonna be just an easy plat. your going to have to put some work in to it but all of them seem fun to get. you also collect traiding cards witch help you out during the game. you can play with 5 cards if you choose and each card does something different. one of them might be guarentted a ground ball, or guarentted to hit it down the line, theres even one to add another inning if you are in trouble. you can only use each card once during the game so use them wisly. this is my review for now and if you like little league baseball you will not go wrong with this game. if you have any questions feel free to ask

You will think this is a fun game when you first start playing it. I've played a total of about 3 tournaments or so, and they all had something in common. I would pretty much breeze through the tournaments; only losing 2 or 3 games, only to fall victim to an impossible CPU opponent during semi-finals play. The game would suddenly get extremely hard and frustrating to the point where the CPU would cheat in order to win. For example, I upgraded one of my out fielders to have a 100 rating for his fielding attributes. Well, he dropped an easy, routine flyball and of course the CPU scored and won 1-0. That kind of thing would not happen in the tournament, only in the semi-finals. Instead of making the CPU play better, they would make my team play worst. I was hoping the gameplay would be more like the original Backyard Baseball series, not so much..

I did enjoy building a team and customizing the players. After each game, you would get allotted 'skill points' based on how well you did. You can either use the points towards boosting your entire teams' attributes, or upgrade on an individual player basis. I do think it's a good game for someone looking to play an arcade style baseball game that's not as complicated as MLB The Show, it just plays unfair at times. But, for $12, what the heck do you expect?

In all, it's a fun game if you need something to do for a couple of weeks, just don't expect to win the World Series on normal difficulty :)

I needed a PS3 game that would acclimate my grandson (6) to the game before he started to play it. We realized a year ago that he had no basic grounding in the game itself, and since there is so much to learn, he needed to understand the game itself. People told me PS3 had few games for young children, but this one was exactly what we needed. Variations, levels, humor. I recommend this.

Diablo 3 is way better on consoles than the PC. First there is no always online DRM. You can play offline single player, plus 4 co-op local. Second, the surprise for me is the control system of your character. It is way better than the mouse and keyboard on the PC. You have the left stick to move and right stick to evade (you step back or sideways to evade enemies). You must play it to realize that Blizzard did a very great job with the controls. Lastly, the looting that is the heart of the game is right and not broken like the PC version, because there is no auction house. You gain items every time you complete quests and not only money and experience.

Coming from a PC player to a console player, the controls and differences are noticed right away and are so much better than the PC version. Hats off to Blizzard to finally getting Diablo III right!

For those of you who enjoy a coop style game with multiple friends or a spouse on the couch, this game is for you. Since I have been married (~4 years), I gave up PC gaming, it felt like I was putting my wife aside to play games...it is a different feeling on the couch when you can game and converse in a living room...don't judge, it just works for us.

AnywayI look for games like Borderlands or Diablo to play with the wife since you can have coop experiences where you work together to achieve fun and exciting outcomes! (keep it clean:))!

The game is super polished, and easy to pick up. You start off with only certain spells/abilitiesas you gain levels, you unlock more and more. Eventually you will have each button bound to a certain spell/ability. Doing so enables those (like myself) an easy learning curve into the Diablo world. There are 5 different classes with 2 genders each, all with their own unique sets of skills/abilities.

The graphics seem great, the sharing of the same screen works out well which and reminds me of the old days of Gauntlet (haha). It is a fresh game to play in the midst of the FPS battles btw BF3/COD/Halo/etc..I guess Diablo 3 was ruined with an AH of some sort on the PC? Well it is of non existence with the console version and is a load of fun to playso grab your friends, spouse, controller and kick the forces of evil out of Sanctuary!

Game on!

Best Deals for Diablo III - Xbox 360

I am not a Blizzard fan. I am not a Diablo fan. I've tried all of Blizzard's previous games, including World of Warcraft and Starcraft II, and I don't like them very much. I am not a big fan of their art style nor of their game play. Having said that, I tried Diablo III and I really like it (on Xbox 360).

If you are a fan of games like Baldur's Gate Dark Alliance of other console-style dungeon crawling RPGs, you might like Diablo III. It has great animations, generally great art, lots of content in terms of quests, loot, and skills, and has a user interface that works well on consoles. The combat systems are simple but flexible, with new skills added over time that change the flow of combat significantly.

The quest system, dialog, and all story elements are handled really nicely. You talk to characters, get some background info, accept and complete quests, and it's all presented like a "real" RPG. The actual questing is basically a dungeon crawl, where you slay horses of enemies, including boss types, collect loot, and once you're told you've completed the quest, you return to town.

Dialog III has lots of conveniences; ways to teleport to town, autosaves, ways to teleport back to the quest location when you resume a game, auto-equipping of items, and more. None of them get in your way though, and the game rarely makes you feel stupid. In fact the game makes you feel like a bad-ass and makes it challenging but not overly so to accomplish the task of killing the seemingly endless foes you encounter.

I am surprised at how good the game is. I bought it simply because I didn't have anything else to play, I was expecting a so-so experience, but found a game that stands up as a pretty great RPG. I'm playing it single player and unlike other games that offer co-op (I'm looking at you Monaco and Payday 2!), Diablo III is actually balanced and tailored to the number of players currently playing.

Honest reviews on Diablo III - Xbox 360

I just picked this up today at the famous big box store today. I never played Diablo 3 before today because (1) I am not THAT big of a fan of the series to get the PC version with it's over zealous, online mandatory DRM. And (2) I've gave up years of PC gaming in favor of console gaming.

So far I've put in a few hours and here's what I think.

-When I bought the game today, I honestly was expecting a 'meh' experience. However after a few hours of smashing enemies and collecting new armor and weapons for my Barbarian, I'm loving it and feel hooked already.

-The controls are great. I've played point and click games on PC, but here having a controller in hand is a lot more casual and feels better. Some games like Starcraft or other strategy games are undoubtably better with a mouse and keyboard, but it seems like a game like Diablo is made for kicking back on the couch, in front of the big screen, with a friend/significant other and having fun. You also don't have to keep pressing the attack button for each attack you do, you can hold the button down and your character will keep attacking. The right analog stick is used for dodging, but honestly I haven't had to use it that much so far.

-The graphics are smooooth as butter, and seems like it's getting excellent framerates. I'm not a graphics snob (gave up that ghost a long time ago), but this game does look great and hold up to the art style.

-Multiplayer. This is another place I think the console version outshines the PC version. Not only can you play online with friends, but you can also play with friends on the same Xbox/TV.

With the local and online multiplayer, lack of online auction house, being able to carry your character on a USB drive, better controls(IMO), and the fact that you can play this offline unlike the PC version, this feels like the definitive version that everyone has been waiting for.

So far, it's exceeded my expectations in the fun department. If you have this game on the PC, obviously there isn't going to be much new here for you. If you've never played Diablo 3, I can honestly recommend it, even more if you have people to play with.

Fun and engaging at first the damn game never changes! The first level is the same as the last with no variety to the type of zombies or the weapons you use. Without variety this game gets old and you probably will not be inspired to finish it.

Fairly straightforward affair, as its very linear. Take about a day or two to finish it, their's no really end level boss its just a stand off (spoiler!). It feeds that part of your brain that whats you to kill zombies, but it don't last long enough and their's virtualy no replay value. Not a bad game just not great.

For those who want a nice intermediate option because a stick is out of price range. This is what you want. It is far more responsive than the standard Xbox or PS3 controller, (moreso on the 360). It feels great, its a perfect size for your hands and will definitely help improve your game. This doesn't mean you will miraculously get better, only training will do that. You only get out what you put in after all. This will however help streamline the training process. It's great to have around for some SFxT, SSFIV AE, KoF, Blaze Blue or whatever you play. It is a little awkward for Mortal Kombat though.

The pad itself is very nice and sturdy. The floating D-Pad feels funny for about an hour, but once you adjust to it it feels fantastic. It makes SRK and quarter circle motions a lot easier to pull off. It also makes tagging and cross canceling in SFxT easier. It also makes doing (in air) moves a lot easier as they tend to be unresponsive on the standard issue controller.

The art is very nice and clean on it. It is however a little busy. Dhalsim, Hwoarang, and Sagat all look nice but Steve really got the shaft as he is not only barely on the controller, but also looks funny. This could have been remedied by making the design less busy with fewer characters.

In all this is a great pad that will help out your game if your a regular or intermediate player. If your getting really serious I recommend a stick but this is always great to have around, especially so friends don't have to use the xbox controller when they come over. If I could afford it I'd have at least 2. Definitely worth the price of admission.

It's a nice choice for those who want a better fighting game experience without coughing up the cash for a good fight stick.

--

Pros-

>Big, responsive, and durable face buttons.

>Lightweight

>Very nice grip on the back.

>Has a turbo button for all your spamming needs.

>It works with PC! (I'm a PC player so this is a plus for myself.)

>The D-Pad is floating (I prefer this)

>Wired with a Long Cable length

>Has a mic port (I cannot test the port as I do not own an xbox but it's there!)

>Has a switch on the back that allows the D-Pad to function as the right analog, left analog, or the D-Pad. This gives you some freedom to use this controller in other games.

--

Cons-

>>The D-Pad is floating. For some it might be a con since it does not feel like a traditional D-Pad.

> It feels just a bit cheap (This may vary from person to person depending on their definition of cheap)

> I do not like the feel of the shoulder buttons. They feel very odd but I've grown accustomed to them. Also let's be honest, you won't be using those shoulder buttons as often as the face buttons.

>> The face button next to the B button will not work if the game you are playing does not support Xbox trigger buttons. This is only a minor gripe for PC players as most games nowadays do support the Xbox controller's trigger buttons.

--

Overall I believe I made a wise purchase.

EDIT: It's been well over a year now and the controller is still going strong. It's lasted through Melty Blood:AACC, Street Fighter IV AE, Soku, and is now being put to work in the Skullgirls PC beta~

I would love to have a stick but since I don't want to invest in one yet, I got this. The D-Pad is responsive enough. Yes, it's hard to pull off some moves but when you practice, you can get around that. It's just something you need to get used to.

Pros

Good price

Good response

Cons

Slight learning curve

D-Pad is good but is a little loose, doesn't give full control but is passable for a pad.

Honest reviews on Mad Catz Street Fighter X Tekken - FightPad SD - Sagat & Dhalsim

This product is definitely for those who want to get away from the controller, but don't want to commit to a fight stick. Granted, some players prefer pad > stick. I am not one of them.

That said, I do enjoy the D-pad which is very maneuverable. I have no issues with directional controls but every now and then the responsiveness is a little off. That and the should buttons feel out of place. They are just sort of put on. Most of the time I end up disabling them as it's not worth the effort to switch up how I hold the pad.

I was not a fan of how lightweight it is. I prefer a noticeable amount of weight but this feels like nothing that catches me. I play with the controller on a surface and the weight (or lack there of) doesn't provide any resistance. The start button is on front, although it's not the easiest to just randomly press, so no worries of an accidental press in those clutch situations while fighting an opponent.

The back is this nice material that likes to grip at hard surfaces, and if you hold the pad, won't get too slippery for those who get sweaty palms while playing, and also is very comfortable. For the few times I held the controller, I was always impressed by this.

This is made for fighting games, so if you're not a fighting game fanatic, I wouldn't even recommend getting this as it probably won't improve your game. But it you're looking for a 6 button front layout without breaking bank, this is a good pad. I have had better, so we'll see if this lasts the test of time.

Oh yeah, the design on it is pretty awesome too.

If you expect a traditional RPG with Baroque, you may be disappointed. However, if you expected a Diablo style hack-n-slash romp through pseudo-randomly created dungeons, a cast of grotesque characters, and a 20 something undertaker who is compelled to shout "God dammit" every time he speaks, then you will be satisfied.

Me? I didn't know what to expect since my wife gave this game to me without consulting with me, and I had never heard of it. So I was in no position to not give this game a chance. Under my wife's careful scrutiny, I played this game during my free time for several weeks.

At first, I was pleasantly surprised. There was an interesting if not bloody opening cinematic that piqued my interest. The pleasantness soon dissolved, though, when I started playing the game.

I mentioned the cast of grotesque characters. These fit in nicely with the overall visual theme of the game which is something between surreal dream and post apocalyptic prison camp. The visuals are admittedly stunning and appropriate and very dark. This game does not beat Silent Hill in its human disfigurations, but it does come close.

The progression of the game is also something novel. That is, you start the game with essentially no clues as to the reasons behind the sorry state of affairs in which you find yourself and, seemingly, the rest of the world (your character is an amnesiac). The only direction you receive is that you must get to the bottom floor of the "tower", and it is primarily in the tower that you uncover the means by which you find out more about the back story and the pre-amnesiac nature of your character. It is also in this tower where you will die quite often. In fact, dying is one of the means by which you advance the story. So don't be frustrated when you die ALL THE TIME.

Reading what I have just written, this sounds like a game I should keep. However, there were a host of issues that I encountered that ultimately ended in me asking myself, "Why do I care?"

First of all, the camera is nuts. When you're not battling, it's serviceable. You can always snap the camera back behind your character. During battle, though, you're usually out of luck if the camera swings to an angle that puts your adversaries below the scope of the camera or behind a wall if you happen to be engaging a monster from around the corner.

Secondly, most of the dialogue sounds like it's being read straight from the script. Particularly that of the coffin maker. I hate that he says "God dammit" all the time, but more than that, I hate how forced it sounds -like Spock saying, "I'm going to roll with my homies."

Thirdly, the system by which you can throw your various items seems to have been added as an afterthought. Nearly anytime you want to throw something, the action must be interrupted as you pause the game and select the item you would like to throw.

The last nail in the coffin for me was how boring the game was. This game plays so much like Diablo, and I played Diablo before for countless hours, and I am done with it, thank you very much. The only thing that breaks the monotony of the hack, hack, hacking on monsters is the rare encounter with someone or something that triggers the surfacing of an old memory or association.

Plus, I didn't care for how selfish most of the ancillary characters were. But that's just me.

Some people may not like the fact that the goal is to die and that when you die, you start over from the beginning and at level 1. Some people may. Some may not like that it's so blasted repetitive. Again, some people may. It's not for everyone, but I myself think it's pretty original.

For one thing, It doesn't follow your standard RPG elements. Yes, you can do level up and have to deal with status effects. For one thing, you deal with some slightly different stats: HP, VT (That's Vitality), Attack, and Defense. No Speed or Agility, no Dexterity. Speed is set but can be improved with specific weapons, brands, and parasites, or it's worsened when afflicted with a certain ailment, Lethargy. And on the subject of ailments, you have your Poison and your Paralysis, but you also have to deal with Lust, Lethargy, and Stomachache, among a few others. Lust is the funniest of them all because everything, monster, item, and character (Yes, even the one you're playing.) becomes a beautiful woman. The same woman. You can tell what's what by checking shadows and the sprite that becomes the items floats above the ground. And the reactions you get from the NPCs when "talking" to them are priceless. One says "What are you getting all hot and bothered in a place like this for?!" Your character is completely mute, but the NPCs don't seem to care. They talk to him anyway.

Now, some have complained that you don't get to keep your stuff. This is remedied by throwing them into things called Memory Orbs. An NPC on the outside will pick them up and you can get them back from him when you start over. Consequently, this is the only way to fill up the item list. And it doesn't matter if the monsters get you or if you make it all the way to your destination, if you die, you start over. That much is true. Herein I can see why people would be annoyed with this factor, seeing how I was on a roll, making it to the bottom 5 times. The sixth time through, I was hit with Poison, and the monsters got me. Aggravating. But hey, if you don't think of starting over when the monsters get you as punishment for failure, then it won't be. Indeed, when you do start over, even if the monsters got you, you learn a bit more about the main character's past. And who doesn't like a good mystery?

No one's said anything about the music that I've read, and so I will. I like the music. It's catchy. Some I don't particularly care for, but all in all, thought was put into the music for this game.

I purposely didn't touch on everything I've experienced so far because I want people to experience it for themself, rather than having someone tell them what they think and go on that. Indeed, I did some research on this game, looking at videos and reading reviews and whatnot, but hey, if you weren't slightly interested by this point in my review, you wouldn't still be reading, would you?

And another thing. Some have said it's too hard. I wouldn't say that. With no definable boss monsters and the fact that every monster you do face perishes rather quickly when you use your items in conjuction with your sword, I don't think it's particularly hard at all.

All in all, rent it first and if you think it's one you'd like, then buy it.

I absolutely adored this game, but people with little patience might get frustrated. This game doesn't hold your hand at all, it tosses you into a crazy world and tells you 'okay figure it out!' I however enjoy the 'uncover the bizarre storyline' type of gameplay thats in Baroque, trying to figure out just what the heck is going on, its like you're in an insane asylum. Admittedly losing all your gear whenever you die or complete the tower can get tedious, but I even came to enjoy that after awhile, it takes planning and strategy to get your favorite items back into town to be ready for next time.

Its definitely a 'hardcore dungeon-crawler' like it advertises itself to be...I wish the Wii had more games with complex psychological storylines like this. If you like anime, thought-provoking rpgs, or just hacking and slashing, I'd definitely recommend Baroque.

Honest reviews on Baroque - Nintendo Wii

Probably the best game I've ever played... Though my first system was a gameboy color, so I'm not sure how much I'm saying there. Definitely a LOT of replay value. Unlike every other game ever made, the story is not straightforward, which will keep you coming back to this title long after games you can "play through" and "beat" have been gathering dust for a few years. Very challenging and the most fun I've had in ages.

Of course, this game is not for everybody. Different doesn't even begin to describe it. You can't approach with a specific label in mind, because you will invariably be disappointed by some aspect. If anything, think of it as "unique" and remember that it takes a long time to get used to/in to when you start to play and you'll have a chance to really appreciate the game. I'd suggest renting/borrowing Baroque and playing for at least three hours before deciding whether it's a good investment.

The only problem I can think of with this game is that it would do so much better on a handheld, esp. the PSP, as those generally allow for a lot more playtime, which Baroque deserves. It also isn't really a game you can play for long stretches of time; while you can play it without getting bored for over a year, the mentally and emotionally taxing aspect of crawling the dungeon will burn you out after a few hours of solid play.

For those who'd appreciate the challenge of unraveling the plot, but don't want to die against their will, lol, there is an easy mode available.

Also keep in mind before purchasing that this is a rather morbid game that features some imagery that could offend like, hardcore Christians... As many fantasy-oriented Japanese games do.

This game is a lot of fun. It's a great action-RPG, but be warned it is frustrating at times. The point of the game is obviously to advance the story line and also to figure out what exactly the story line is. The frustrating part about the game is that every time you complete a tower and advance the story line you start over at level zero with no items. There are ways to save a limited number of items from your last trip through the tower and you figure that out as you play. Give the game some time and enjoy it. Don't get frustrated and quit after the first time your character gets reset.

EndWar is an excellent game. I've never been into RTS games. I've always thought they were kind of boring. But this one has me hooked. I played for about 4 hours last night, and I enjoyed every minute.

First off, although I have never gotten into RTS games before, I have seen them played, and I found that EndWars graphics are as good, if not better, than any RTS I have seen. If you are coming into it expecting it to look like Dead Space or GoW2 or anything like that, you'll be sorely disappointed. That isn't the focus of this game. Regardless, the game is incredibly fun to play.

Secondly, the voice command works great. In the amount that I played last night, I only had one or two problems with it. When I first got R6V and R6V2, I tried the voice command feature, and found that I would have to repeat an order four or five times to get them to do something, and even then the order was usually misunderstood. All I can say is that EndWar has come a long way in terms of voice command, and I find it unlikely that you'll have any of those problems.

The gameplay is fun. I enjoyed the fact that the campaign didn't just throw you into the middle of WWIII. It begins with the "Prelude to War" campaign. During this time, you don't have all the abilities that you have during the WWIII campaign, and it is a great way to get aquatinted to the voice-command system. During this time, you will not be able to select your unit types prior to the mission, which is great because it helps you learn what units work most effectively against others. Also, you will not be able to upgrade your units at this time either. It also allows you to play all of the different modes as well.

After the "Prelude to War" campaign (which, by the way, is around 10+ missions), you get to the WWIII campaign. During this time, all of the limits that were imposed on you in the previous campaign are lifted, and you have full control of the gameplay. I especially like that your units gain experience and are promoted as long as they live. The higher the rank and the more experience they have, the better they play and the more valuable they are. When these units are killed, they are replaced with fresh recruits that have a lower rank and no experience. This puts a tremendous amount of value on the units that you have, and you find that you do whatever you can to see to it that they survive from mission to mission. They aren't expendable, and that has an amazing impact on gameplay. You're not just going to send your units on a suicide mission.

I haven't jumped into the "Theatre of War" campaign yet, which is the online multiplayer campaign. Should be excellent though.

Anyway, incredible and fun game. Can't wait to see more like it.

RTS-like games on consoles always have a cumbersome control system when compared to their PC versions, although game-makers are trying everything to simplify the complicated controls into a single controller with about ten buttons to make up for the loss of keyboard and mouse (which might be the biggest invention in the PC input equipment). However, this ends when EndWar comes out.

Features:

No annoying resource-harvesting, only fast-paced actions. That's the Endwar, with the innovative voice command control system. Sit on a couch, trigger RT, speak out your command based on a "Who-What-Where" structure and game is in your hands (voice). RTS games have never been so smoothy on a console. Despite the fast actions it presents, it doesn't mean there's no strategy. You still need to plan well to win every battle.

Voice Control:

Voice control works actually pretty well so far as I have experienced since more than 90% of the time my command is taken into action correctly using the original Xbox 360 headset. Also, button-based control is available, which means you can treat this game like a traditional console RTS game if you like, but it's hard to defeat a human opponent while you are not using voice control, because you need longer time to give your orders.

About the game itself:

The background of the game is set in the near future when the WWIII is set on fire.

In the Solo Campaign mode, You will first get yourself familiar with the game by walking into the Prelude part telling you how the WWIII breaks out. You will be assigned as a commander of one of the three factions, which are Euro, USA, and Russia and play a series of easy battles. That's telling you the basic rules of this game. After these tutorial-like battles, the WWIII begins and you have to choose your faction to continue your fight. You earn money after each battle for upgrades for your units.

Theater of War is one of its multiplay modes and is much like the WWIII solo campaign but with human opponents not AI players. Other multiplayer modes include quick match in which you fight a random players, and private match where you can play with your friends.

Win the battles:

Endwar includes several types of maps. In some you need to defend the enemy's siege, while in others you try to secure the uplink buildings to gain more advantage to crush the enemy. Several types of units are available, including riflemen, engineers (using rocket launchers), tanks, transporters, gunships, artilleries and some others. The basic rule is like a triangle that gunships are effective at beating tanks, which are the killer of transporters, which are in turn gunship-hunters. In solo WWIII or Theater of War, the units survived will be promoted and become much more powerful. If they are defeated but evacuated (retreat), they can still be dispatched in the next battle and their ranks are maintained. However, they will disappear from your dispatch list when they are defeated and killed. So, use your high-ranked units wisely and don't let them attack without proper covers. Unit promotion will not be saved for quick match or private match.

Closing Comments:

Endwar is really an RTS game made for console. It's the start of a new type of RTS on console system that is promising, although we do see some drawbacks such as frame loss when many units are firing at each other on screen at the same time, and no big difference between the three factions except for the looking. I haven't touched any RTS game on any console for like 3 years, and thanks to Endwar that brings me back.

Best Deals for Tom Clancy End War - Xbox 360

I am a big fan of Clancy's series. I own all Rainbow Six and Ghost Recon titles for Xbox, both the original and the 360. Obviously, my main focus in games is tactical shooters. I have never been too big of a fan of strategy games. I did always enjoy the tactical aspect of Clancy's shooters, though. Those of you who played GRAW 2 certainly remember missions where you had support of tanks, armored vehicles, helicopters and even air-strikes. EndWar basically takes that concept and magnifies it to the size of a battalion. And it works magnificently.

EndWar puts the missing "R" in the RTS genre. You don't build silly contraptions, you don't harvest mysterious resources. There's you, the enemy and the battlefield. You have infantry, armor, artillery, attack helicopters and other units at your disposal. The battlefields are real cities with landmarks you can recognize. Everything is destructible. Buildings collapse under artillery barrage. Trees burn when hit with incendiaries, etc. There are 39 maps! And you can play each in four different modes, in each one facing different objectives, what creates pretty much endless list of combinations.

I came across some criticism about the game being a simple rock-paper-scissors scheme: tanks beat transports, transports beat gunships, gunships beat tanks, etc. To me, the people who say this, simply don't get it. The beauty of the game is that basic rules are simple, and then combination of terrain, objectives and the style of your play and your enemy make every battle unique. Not to mention that the units have pretty impressive number of upgrades, which actually make it possible to violate the rock-paper-scissors scenario, e.g., beat transports with gunships.

The voice command system is nice and most gamers love it. I have a kid, though, and I only play when he is asleep, so voice commands are out of the question. Surprisingly, the game is very playable with the controller only. I don't feel that I am at a disadvantage. Another cool feature is action replay. It is a great feature and yet few games have it (Actually, the only other one I can think of is Halo 3) Combined with the great artwork of landscapes and units, makes for a great feature.

EndWar is a must-have in your Clancy's collection. Single player is tons of fun and online play is the most addictive ever.

Honest reviews on Tom Clancy End War - Xbox 360

Endwar is a game that could have been great, but was released in an unpolished state to meet holiday marketing deadlines. It's a shame, because this title had the opportunity to revamp the entire RTS genre, but fell short of the mark. That isn't to say it isn't a great game, but it *does* have major flaws.

The Good Stuff:

This is NOT a first-person shooter. You issue orders to your units, and let them do the work! The only major exception to this is using secondary abilities such as laying mines or firing flamethrowers, but the principle holds.

The voice command system works great most of the time. Just use a loud drill-sergeant voice to ensure good voice recognition.

Resource gathering (the bane of most RTS games) is limited to capturing uplinks and managing your "command points" (accrued through time on the field and capturing uplinks) wisely.

Much of the time, you can give your units basic commands and let them figure out the rest, although they occasionally need help with pathfinding or optimal target selection in a firefight.

A relatively simple combat chain with very little luck involved. For example, a hardened gunship will always beat a hardened tank--provided it isn't being simultaneously attacked by a couple of other units at the time. :)

The ability to buy upgrades and earn promotions for your units, which gives them additional abilities.

The Bad Stuff:

Not a game you can play when people are trying to sleep. They'll think the house is being invaded by a platoon of drill sergeants bellowing at the TV.

Some commands can only be given using voice, and some only via the controller.

The single-player game is a little thin on story, and acts mostly as a trainer for the online multiplayer mode.

The online multiplayer mode is HUGELY glitchy and unpolished.

Game mechanics are largely undocumented. The combat chain is explained in the manual, but bonuses, upgrades, and a whole host of battlefield mechanics are completely undocumented by the game maker, and only anecdotally understood by the community. In other words, if you have an engineer unit that gets a +10% damage bonus, ten percent more of what? No one knows.

Online Multiplayer Bugs:

The lobby system is terrible. People can often wait upwards of 30 minutes to find a match. You can't see who is waiting on what maps, how many people are playing, or what teams need a few more people.

The "primary frontline" rule is complex, poorly implemented, and even more poorly understood by most players. This means that you can't simply win or lose territories; there's some alchemy involved that means that you can lose territories you won the day before, and can't attack critical territories that are right next to you on the map unless the stars are in alignment or some such nonsense.

The "Deep Strike bug" can sometimes leave rifleman dangling from a gunship until they die, unable to move, offload, or evacuate.

"Unit killing" is a feature of the game that allows you to finish off enemy (or even friendly) units after they've been defeated, effectively replacing the killed units with recruits. This has the effect of removing special abilities from that unit in future battles. This is important to prevent super-soldiers on the battlefield, but it's terribly unbalanced in that it can take days or weeks of game play to rank up a unit, but only seconds to kill it off. Unit killing is entirely too easy in Endwar, and a frequent topic of complaints by starting or mid-level players who haven't learned to compensate.

Unbalanced maps that favor one faction over another, and can lead to excessive unit killing by the side with the upper hand. This increases the amount of time people spend waiting in the lobby to play "fair" maps, or to teams camping out out on maps that favor them hoping to abuse players who wander in without knowing any better.

Servers that lag out frequently, leaving teams with AI commanders that eat up limited unit reserves, do amazingly stupid things on the battlefield, and (due to another set of bugs) ensure that players who play with or against AI commanders often get units perma-killed without also earning promotions or credits for the match.

Random unit losses. Occasionally, you will enter the barracks to find that your elite infantry (or other valuable units) have died and been replaced by raw recruits, even though they haven't been in any battles recently.

Poor matchmaking. Matches don't take player abilities or battalion ranks into account, often throwing new commanders up against Rank 12 uber-commanders with all the upgrades. This can be very disheartening to casual players.

The ease of unit killing and unbalanced nature of airstrikes and map topography make ranking up your battalion a very slow grind, which can be very off-putting for new players.

Unit killing in the game is the biggest source of overall poor sportsmanship, trash talking, and revenge play in the Theater of War. Some players focus on unit killing instead of winning battles, reducing the fun for many.

Finger-pointing from technical support. Ubisoft will tell you that they aren't responsible for the multiplayer problems, and that the problems need to be reported to Xbox Live support because Microsoft manages the servers. Microsoft will then tell you that there is no problem because the servers are up, and that you need to call Ubisoft because they made the game. It's maddening.

Despite all its problems, this is still one of the most addictive games I've played in the past few years. I've honestly dedicated weeks to the game, and find the combination of RISK-like strategy and small-unit tactics incredibly addictive. There is a real thrill in overwhelming the enemy on the battlefield, and in watching close combat through the eyes of your various units. And, on the rare occasions where one is actually able to rank up a unit, there's a genuine pleasure in watching the unit power through the opposition until it's invariably destroyed by a vengeful opponent.

I would NOT recommend this game to casual players, even though that was the target audience. However, war gamers, strategy gamers, and RTS gamers should all find something to like about it.

This game is awesome. I have never played a game for so many hours as I have this one. It's almost an obsession, there are variables which once you see them you have to try. "How is it different to play as this country...what if I get this upgrade instead...what if I station my men in that building...should i make a run for it or stay..." And so on and so forth. It grabs you.

This game took me about a full week to really fall comfortably into, then about a month to understand all I could do with the controls. And now, over a year later I am able to beat the levels on any difficulty. But still, I just keep wanting more and more.

In fact, since I'm a college student, I had to put my XBox in storage, as its too tempting to want to play during the school year. This game is for me what the "One Ring" was to Gollum. For this game is my preciousss. Yes, it calls to us now. We must go...

After years of getting robbed by the cable company we had enough and got rid of cable TV. We bought the Wii system and have enjoyed it very much! My wife and 5 year old child never get tired of the games and we all enjoy watching movies on it from Netflix.

The system is easy to set up and you can be using it in a matter of a few minutes. The games are fun, the graphics are great, and the extra features like the news channel and weather has me not missing TV at all.

Get off the couch and get a Wii.

We bought our Wii in 2007my husband went down to Best Buy in the middle of the night and waited on a line that snaked around the building in the hopes of maybe scoring one of these elusive consoles.

He DID score one, and we've been playing almost daily (which is pretty amazing for a console and games that are more than three years old!) since then.

A snap to set up, incredibly easy to use. The Wii-mote is a game control like no othersimply wave it like a magic wand and the sensor bar, which comes with the console, picks up the signal and communicates your position and movement to the Wii so that you can twirl, swoop, smash, lunge, jump your heart away as you play.

Our whole family has gotten a lot out of this console. I'm 36, female, and NOT a gamer, and I've found myself gravitating towards puzzle games, fishing (!!), the Endless Ocean series, brain teasers, and the Wii Sports Franchise, my daughter (who was a little over one year old when the Wii arrived) has always been able to play along and now is addicted to the many games out for preschoolers (Dora/Diego, the different Disney gamesespecially Princess and the Frog, Carnival Games, Wii Sports + Wii Sports Resort) and my husband, in his 40's, does everything from Zelda to playing poker on the Wii.

We spent a significant amount of time playing together, but we also play alone.

I think, in many ways, the Wii has become our "family board game". It's a life saver in summer and during Florida Hurricane Season, when it's rainy and too hot to go outside. We can all gather together and get our mind off the gloomy weather for a bit.

I've always had game consoles since I was a little kideverything from Atari 2600 (which I MOURNED until the Wii came into my life), Super Nintendo, Xbox. The Wii has not only shocked me with how much use it's getting, but the fact it's STILL getting so much useit's novelty has NOT worn off at all, which is rare for any technology, especially game consoles.

I can't recommend this enough. Definitely a GREAT investmentinstead of spending $20-50 for each member of your family on a toy/gadget that loses it's luster, get the Wii and make everyone happy for a long time. And you will be more than ready to go with both Wii Sports and Wii Sports Resort. Even though we've had both games for a while (we've had Wii Sports forever since it came with our Wii), they are still the games my family always goes back to.

I only bought the Wii now, even though it has been out for years. I really wish I had bought one sooner. It is cheaper than PS3 (the console I would normally buy if I had to get just 1), but I don't like the collection of games PS3 has right now. They definitely have more, but I feel like the games are mostly geared towards guys, and they're missing the cute games like Mario that I grew up on. This bundle comes with Wii Sports and Sports Resort, which are incredibly fun. If you're not one to go out and play sports, this is the next best thing. Nintendo Wii is affordable for most people too unlike the PS3. Definitely recommended for adults and kids alike.

While it arrived on a timely manner, I was disappointed.

I unpacked it to find no instruction book. So I had to wait til this weekend when my son came to set the Wii up.

It was listed as 'perfect'condition but the remote was dirty, obviously used and not cleaned up. The remote was also missing the wrist strap.

The main unit is laying flat because the stand is also missing.

I did save money from buying thru Amazon but not that much. Buying brand new would have given me all the parts, which I expected to get.

I want to love Wii, but Nintendo's ignorance prevents it from being more than a way to entertain groups of people that may randomly show up at my home. The fact they insisted on sticking with 480p while the rest of the world moved on to bigger and better things like 720p/1080p means that it's never going to look "great" on an high def TV. Next, the motion controls can be a bit flaky. They improved with the Motion Plus add-on, but creating additional hardware requirements destroys the simplicity console gamers enjoy. Next, because the Wii is essentially a smaller Gamecube with better specs, it's not given the credit its due. Sure it didn't have problems pushing sales, but there are very few people I know who actually still use their Wii. That's a shame really, because there are some great games that I don't feel get recognition because they are on the Wii. Pretty much every first party title from Nintendo is worth playing from start to finish, and third parties have managed to make good use of the control scheme, such as the ultraviolent Madworld, the sweat inducing Just Dance series, the Tiger Woods series, Okami, Goldeneye, and Muramasa just to name a few. Unfortunately there are so many crappy titles that are released with piss poor implementation of the motion sensing, that it makes it hard for the casual gamers to sort through the crap from the true gems. I'd argue it's much easier for a bad Wii game to push someone away from the console then a bad PS3/360 game. The latter both use traditional control schemes (ignoring the Kinect and Move) so it's much easier to at least create a mediocre control scheme. It's almost expected all Wii games will include some use of the Wiimote's motion sensing gimmick, and more often than not the combination of the hardware faults of the remote with the software can lead to a terrible experience. Hopefully Nintendo learns from it's mistakes, and doesn't let sales numbers alone create a false sense of success. After the original hype around the Wii died down, I can't honestly say I've ever heard someone praising a Wii game that was released. That may be because I work with a bunch of Sony/Microsoft fanboys, but almost all of us own a Wii.

I've played this for over a week now, so I'm revising my earlier review. I still say there are some definite improvements.

The CPU can actually play offense now! I was getting quite bored with the complete inability of the CPU to run, and minimal ability to pass. It was fun to rack up the stats, but winning 84-0 even in Heisman mode got old. The CPU receivers can actually catch the ball, and the quarterback actually avoids sacks and scrambles for positive yards on blitzes and draws. In All-American and Heisman difficulty levels, the defense AI manages to catch on to your play calling pattern a lot better than before, so you're can't successfully run the same play over and over again as easily as before. There is some benefit though, you can REALLY exploit an over eager defense with the right play action, screen pass (which actually works for positive yards now), or draw plays. It works to your disadvantage on defense though, because if you are not creative and run the same defense on the same formations over and over again, the CPU will burn you. They have also added some new defensive QB Spy plays (e.g. Nickle DE and Nickle OLB Double Spy plays) which work very well against the option.

The best new features by far are the impact players, and "in the zone" modes. Both player and CPU impact players when "in the zone" make some spectacular plays, and fun post play celebrations. Thankfully, the refs are not as trigger happy with the unsportsmanlike conduct flag. The timing of the players going "in the zone" is quite good. It happens at key moments in the game on key plays. Unfortunately, and I may discover this not to be true later, is that you can't seem to develop an impact player during the course of a season. They are locked in and set for the entire season. If you end up with a linebacker with 60 tackles, a dozen sacks, and a half dozen forced fumbles and interceptions by mid-season, I should think that he is an impact player by any definition.

The Dynasty mode is about the same as 2005, but one REALLY nice feature is season long recruiting. You are shown the potential weaknesses in positions where you would lose seniors, so you are given 12 scholarship bids you can put out and monitor recruit interest and allocate 0-100% of points weekly amongst recruits throughout the year. They have also added academics as a pitch. Unfortunately, (and maybe I just haven't figured out how yet), you cannot choose the recruiting pitch criteria nor choose to scout. The AI doesn't do the best job, because let's say you figure the pitch to use is Program Prestige, the CPU continues to pitch other things. The only time you can choose the pitch is during in campus visits. There is a menu option to select when you can pitch, but it's always set to campus visits, and I can't change it even if I disable the recruiting AI assistance. You also get a lot more 5 and 4 star duds with "poor" to "average" potential which was very rare in 2005. Sadly, you are locked in with 12 recruits at the beginning of the season, so you can't replace any choice, and all you can do is change the priority percentage to 0 and hope he withdraws from contention. You cannot target kickers or punters during the season. Another nice new feature is that you can auto-name the select or complete rosters, so no more of the Position + Jersey Number schemes for the first few seasons. However, in Race for the Heisman mode, you have to do that before you start the campaign, because you absolutely cannot edit the rosters in his mode.

The most spectacular feature which makes this game far superior to 2005 is the Heisman Race mode. You select a player position, and run drills for college scouts. Depending on how well you perform, you get scholarship offers from various schools which you can choose to accept, or go in as a walk-on to any school you select. It would seem the ability scores and the number and quality of offers are directly correlated to how well you do in the drill. My first run through with an RB, I only scored 3 touchdowns in 10 tries, and got offers from three schools ranging in rank from #51 to #58 in addition to walk-on. I ran through it again, scored 7/10 times, and this time I got some offers from top-25 teams. This also sets the ability scores which cannot be modified. The gameplay, as I mentioned, is spectacular, and the games when teams are close in level, are exceptionally close. There are some caveats to this mode. It might seem that you have no control over rosters and recruiting in this mode. You also have no access to the pennant collection, and cannot edit rosters (names, equipment, etc.), and can only set the depth chart during the game, and it does not carry over to the next game. You can play pennants during the game, but to cash in points and enter codes, you have to exit Heisman and go to Dynasty mode. Having said that, I think Pennants are irrelevant because the gameplay (especially passing) is much improved. Rushing has become a lot harder which is a good thing, especially because I-Form Normal counter play is not a guaranteed touchdown with 4-3 man coverage & wide receiver motion like it used to be.

There are some other odds & ends.

The Good:

You can switch the controller to either team's side during the game. This is really fun if you choose to play some of the marquee games and play either offense or defense on both sides. I don't recall this ability in 2005. It will disable pennants if one of the teams is user controlled.

You can't edit player skills in Race for Heisman mode, so you can't create a super player. The skills are set during tryout.

There is less discrepency in the coaches/media rankings. In 2005, if a team started too far down, at one point it would be ranked #2 in the media poll, but #25 in the coaches poll.

The Bad:

You can't redshirt your Heisman hopeful. If you do well enough in the tryout, you may end up on a top team with a 99 skill senior in your position, and it seems insane that a freshman would get the start.

Players and refs still walk through each other in the post play animations.

It is sometimes raining with clear blue skies, and sometimes there is sunshine during night games! :)

The OL gets WAY too many pancakes. After my first season, my center had 288 pancakes! Even mediocre OL players pancake all but impact D-Linemen on 20-50% of the plays. The CPU doesn't get that benefit.

You can edit *every* skill value when you create a prospect up to the 99 maximum. In 2005, the upper bounds were limited by player position and size. Now every created prospect can be a super Paul Hornung. It would have been nice to create an "athelate" prospect with some limits, but this one goes too far.

On the Xbox, they switch the select player button from X to B, so it takes some getting used to. The juke function has moved from the right trigger to the right paddle, so it is extremely difficult to pull combination spin, hurdle, juke moves without your right thumb fumbling and flailing all over the place.

In the weekly schedules, when you looked at the game info, it would show the teams' current ranking whether they were in the top 25 or not, but now, you only see that right before the game starts, or right after it ends. There is also no longer an overall grade for a team. You just have offense, defense, and special team grades.

The Ugly:

Who in the blazes picked the menu colors? Dark navy text on a black background? That is what you get for your team in Race or Dynasty mode. The contrast is so poor, it actually hurt my eyes. I can't believe the Beta testers did not riot over this. They also had some nice red-yellow-green shading for NCAA interest level, coach job security, etc., but they've gone to solid colors now. There is no longer a grading system for coach job security.

All the player pictures in roster and recruiting screens look like county sherrif mug shots. This is a really major step down from the last version. Also, the refs have five o'clock shadows and look like they came to the game all hung over after throwing an all night drunk.

During late afternoon games, the shadow coverd parts of the field are pitch black! If your team is wearing light uniforms,

you can barely see them, and if the other team is wearing dark uniforms, you absolutely cannot see them until they tackle you or intercept your pass.

They changed the kick meter to Madden style, and I personally do not like it one bit. However, that is entirely subjective.

All in all, this game is an absolute "must buy" if only for the Heisman mode. I will be wasting a signficant number of hours of my life on this game!

Well, I picked it up yesterday (7/11/05) and I can say, the passing has been much improved. My star catchers are more likely to catch the ball than drop it. There are still dropped passes, but it's more realistic now and not as frustrating. In fact, when my big star does miss a catch, it's usually because I didn't throw it well or I'm throwing into double or triple coverage. However, I have seen him make the catch when he's "in the zone", a new feature that is pretty cool. Basically, your star player(s) will eventually get into a groove, which means they are more apt to make the big play when you control them. If they do, the game will zoom into slo-motion video to show the big play they made and then zooms back out as the play continues.

The ability to easily scramble your QB is great. No longer do you have to "shut off" the passing icons. On the Xbox, hitting the A button turns off the icons, makes your QB tuck the ball and sprint. As long as you haven't crossed the LOS, you can let go and you are immediately back into the passing mode. Very simple change that makes scrambling a lot easier and less frustrating.

Juking is all done with the right analog stick, as is swimming on defense. Also, the right analog stick acts as the "Big Hit" control, just like in Madden and unlike last years NCAA game. Still no play-maker-style controls, though.

Presentation is not bad, but it's still EA-ish and not as spectacular as the ESPN games were (like ESPN NFL 2k5 and MLB 2k5). Hopefully, next year they can revamp all that, especially on the new consoles. The commentary is new, but it repeats itself quickly, but I'm pretty engrossed in the game at hand, so it's not that annoying. Still, it's nice that Nessler, Herbstreit and Corso recorded new commentary that is still fun to listen to.

The only other minor quibble I have with this game is the collision detection. I've seen my players walk through refs or other players as they get up after a play. It looks pretty weird and I wish they'd fix this. This was present in the 2005 version as well. Still, it's not a show stopper, but it makes the game feel as if it could be a lot more polished than it is.

I've only played a few games, including the Run For the Heisman mode, which is pretty cool as you play as a recruit for up to 4 years in persuit of the trophy. You name your player and then have your choice of how you want your stud player to be: pocket QB, scrambling QB, running back, wide receiver, defense. Which choice you choose then puts you into a "mini-game" to rack up as many points as possible to impress the college scouts. Your stats will be based on how well you perform. This will also give you a list of the top 3 schools that want to recruit you. However, you don't have to go there and can choose to walk-on any campus you wish. At that point, you go to your dorm room and your off! You don't have much control over the off-the-field activities in this mode, though. Still, this mode is a really fun mode to play in as you play the character you created and watch him attempt to garner the Heisman Trophy.

I haven't played dynasty yet, as I'm still playing exhibition games in order to get a handle on the game. You can do recruiting year round, and from what I've seen so far, this year's edition is definitely a big improvement over the previous edition.

I didn't get a chance to play online games yet. I did log on, and the interface for Xbox Live is revamped and looks pretty good. Only about 12 people were on-board, but none were quite ready to challenge me (nor was I ready to be challenged yet).

Overall, this is definitely one to get if you love college football. The graphics were tweaked, but they are still nothing to really gush about. They did tone down the "steroid" look so that the players look more like college players. But overall, the graphics tweaks are not what make this the must-buy college game. It's the actual gameplay tweaks/revamps that were done that have made this one of the best NCAA football games yet.

Like the last game I reviewed, Need for Speed: Underground 2, I really didn't want to purchase this game, but another family member (my borther this time) brought it home anyway. At first, I was distracted with a rental of mine: Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas. But after getting frustrated with the final mission (actually, I wasn't frustrated, but I was too lazy to go through the entire level to get to the point where I failed), I decided to pop in NCAA 2006 and see what it was like.

When I first entered the game, I decided to try out the new flagship mode of the game, Race for the Heisman Mode. In the beginning, you are at a college scouting session picking which position you will play (they're all specialty positions, leaving out the underappreciated O-Line). When you pick your position, you will enter immediately into the spring drill which best suits your position (Oklahomas, Pass Skeleton, etc.). When you are done with your drill, you are then immediately given the choice of three schools (their strength depending on your success rating at your drill) or you can choose to walk-on to any school you like.

Once you are in you dorm room, you have the option of doing several things, one being playing your games (or simming them). Other things you can do is look at your achievements and awards over the years, look at fan mail (I never knew that college football phenoms only got one letter every several weeks talking about their career choices... interesting), and look at a picture at an really ugly-looking girl on your computer (when you are a freshman, at least).

When you play a game in RFTH mode, I expected it to be as I just playing as myself throughout the game and resting when on defense. But what I got was pretty much a game that I could've played with the Quick Start option. I control any player on field on my team, I control offense and defense, I control playcalling, etc. This is extremely dissapointing in my mind. Once again, this is supposed to be about me controlling my player and bringing him to glory . Controlling the entire team destroys the illusion that I am slaving to bring my custom player to glory.

A few more gripes about RFTH mode is that no matter what team you play for, you will always start off the bat, no matter who you are replacing. Once again, this is very unrealistic. Also, about controlling your personal player, you do not control his actions off the field. I would've liked to see at the very least an answer based thing which allows us to shape the character of our player. I have only gone to my sophomore year (with no Heisman trophies), but I beginning to feel that RFTH mode is just a worthless novelty mode brought in to garner in the feel of the game. Hopefully, this mode will be improved upon in 2007.

Onto the actual gameplay, it seems to be more "Offense-friendly" than seasons past. Recievers and halfbacks drop fewer passes than last year (thankful for this), the kicking meter is slower on All-American than last year, and it is much easier to bust big gains on the ground with a few well-placed jukes. Another thing that may contribute to this is the fact that the defensive controls have been unfairly altered from last year (player change and sprint on defense have been switched, which results in confusion and sometimes frustration). There is this new feature in the game called Impact Player and at random times, Impact players will be "In The Zone". Besides this, no other new features in the gameplay.

For it's flagship Dynasty mode, It is pretty much the same Dynasty mode as last year with a tune-up to make it better for the current year. Several things new to the mode include an Athlon Sports preview of the upcoming season (nothing new inside, though), pipeline states to have an easier time recruiting (you need at least 5 players on your team in a state to have it considered as a "pipeline" state), and a key new feature called In-Season recruiting, which allows you to recruit hot prospects in-season, as the title suggests.

The graphics have been relatively unchanged from last year, except for the fact that the heads have been pretty much "inflated" to a weird level. The collision detection bugs after the play seem to be gone, as I have seen none as of yet.

The Create-A-School, player, sign, etc. options remain unchanged from last year.

At the beginning of the game, NCAA takes a page from ESPN NFL 2K5 and has 3D renditions of Brad Nessler, Lee Corso, and Kirk Herbstreit. Unfortunately, these previews get repetitive really quick. Here's the basic skeleton of these intros: Brad introduces the broadcasting game, he adresses the weather, the home team comes out, the away team comes out, Brad makes his prediction, Kirk makes his prediction and his key player to watch for, Lee makes his prediction with some helmet or mascot head of the team he is favoring. I feel ashamed the way that they changed Lee from a person who made a decision based on the analysis of the game to a person who just puts on something and says "I'm favoring Team A!" If it was a way to try and make the situation of broadcasting the game looser and more relaxed, then it failed.

For the music, I am disappointed with this as well. From EA's view, it seems that all college football fans want to listen to is Punk Rock with a splash of Ska and Old-School Rap (One song each). As for the bands they chose, they have a nice blend of new and old tunes for you to listen to (the better songs are from De La Soul, The Pixies, and The Clash). And if you get sick of the EA Trax, here's a tip to all of the unknowing reviewers out there: THEY DO HAVE MARCHING BANDS IN THE GAME! If you want bands on the main menu, go to MY NCAA, Audio, and then change menu music from EA Trax to Bands. Personally, I like the fact that EA put new music in the game instead of listening to the bands which were fun in the beginning but got irritating later on in the gaming experience. The only thing I don't like is that it does not support custom soundtracks (Bummer. I would've liked a mix of EA Trax, my music burned onto the XBox, and marching bands).

In final, this is game that is pretty much a must own for any colege football fan out there. It simply is if you liked NCAA 2005, you will be very pleased with the new rendition of NCAA.

Honest reviews on NCAA Football 2006 - Xbox

Bought it last night at midnight and while I only played for just over an hour...I was very impressed. The graphics have seen a huge improvement and the added "Race for the Heisman" feature adds a new dynamic. The EA developers are doing a great job evolving this game into something great on its own rather than an annual Madden tag-along. Improved controls make this game much more fun to play than last year and the gameplay...especially running the option, is much better. A must for college football fans, hardcore gamer not required (I'm certainly not one). My only complaint, and it's just me getting used to it is...it seems to take more skill now in the passing game, which frankly was too easy in previous versions. Running the ball is a treat, with new analog controls for directional juking I feel like I have better control when scrambling or using one of my backs. Hope this is helpful. Go Gators!

Here is in my opinion the best way to play this game on the Xbox.

WHAT'S RIGHT ABOUT THIS GAME

1. Set it to Dynasty. Heisman mode is kind of a waste -it's funner to control a coaches career.

2. Set it to Heisman difficulty level. DO NOT mess with the AI sliders.

3. Set it to EAsy Play. Your runingback will find the holes and your receivers have indicators to tell you which one is open. You will not always be successful, however. It isn't that EAsy.

4. Turn the unsportsman like conduct down to about 30% in the penalty section. You can still get nailed for it, but when you suspect your player is doing something stupid pause the game and unpause it -no penalty.

5. Use the Auto-Name function in the roster section. No more ROLB #54 -they will all have names now except for the really small schools like Maine Black Bears (example only -you may find differently). Brad Nessler will actually pronounce the names.

6. In the contoller section you can switch to the 2005 control layout. There's too much whining about the controls. If you want last year's, you can have it.

WHAT'S WRONG WITH THIS GAME

1. There's still too many long bombs.

2. It's too easy to block punts. All you have to do is take one of the men on the far right and scooch him over to the rest of the lineman, but yet not right next to them so he can get around the offensive line. Then since the defense won't jump offsides you can already have him running in place with your finger near the B button. When the ball is snapped hit that B button and nail that punter.

3. The soundtrack stinks. I mean really stinks. Go to the audio section and change the music to "bands".

That's about it.
