This is a game for kids who dream of being a cheerleader or for "old kids" who didn't make the final cut for cheerleader and never got over it. It's one to add to the "Get up off the couch and move" list of Wii games and it's a way to get some very good exercise while having some fun.

I just got this today and have been playing with it for the last couple of hours. That's as long as I could play because by arms and shoulders are ready to fall off! This game really gives your arms a great workout and once I get better at it and can follow along with the foot movements it should be an all around great exercise game. (Walking and chewing gum at the same time can be challenging) There is also a "Work out" section that's has a choice of quick or extended exercise routines which involves a lot of footwork as well as the arms. That, BTW is a good way to practice getting the cheer moves down.

There's a Campaign Mode where you can compete with another person for team captain or Party Mode where you can play with up to 4 people and have your own squad. I probably won't be playing in those modes since most of my friends would think this 50-something woman had totally lost it if I asked them to come join my Wii cheerleading squad. (Why didn't they name the game "Wii Cheer"?

I like the music and the cheerleader characters are all bubbly and enthusiastic (perky?) which is good motivation to get moving. They're also chatty with recommendations and small talk, which you can hit the A&B buttons to skip if it gets old after a while.

I barely made it past failing after a couple of hours and that was on the easy songs. It's fun even when you don't hit every beat. I did improve by doing the routines over and over. I've found that watching the cheerleaders is the best way to stay on the beat. A good sense of rhythm helps. It seems to have enough different songs to keep it interesting and challenging.

I'm glad I bought it. It's big, big fun and anything that keeps me exercising for over 2 hours is a good thing.

Update 10/18/08 Well it's almost 1:00 in the morning and I've been playing with this game for almost 3 hours after the rest of the household has gone to bed. I've been trying to clear more stages in order to unlock that song in the trailer, "Walking on Sunshine". I finally did it! This game has become a major addiction.

Also, the points scored in this game are based completely on arm movements (although it makes it easier to stick with the rhythm if you move around a little) so if you're hesitating about this game thinking it involves a lot of jumping around, doing back flips or the splits, not to worry. You could pretty much stand in one place and play this game. It's all in the wild flailing (and precision movements) of the arms. That said, you might want to keep your drapes closed when playing so as not to confirm the suspicions of the neighbors that you are totally out of control.

Update 11/5/08 If you're having trouble hitting some of the movements when it seems like you're doing everything right, and you're using an HD LCD TV, try going into the options menu and adjusting the timing. I ended up setting it a couple points down and this seemed to make all the difference. I think there might be a slight delay between the music and the display with some TV's and this seems to solve the problem, although I'm not really sure how this works. (Still loving this game!)

Update 11/4/09 I just got the new We Cheer 2 and it's just as much fun as this one with some nice additional features.

I am a grown man who loves rhythm games. I played Dance Dance Revolution on Playstation for months. Then I played Stepmania on my computer for twice that. I am still playing Guitar Hero. My favorite "exercise" on Wii Fit is the stepping one.

Given the empty space between Guitar Hero 3 and World Tour (Aerosmith doesn't count since it blows), I bought this game. It's GREAT and I LOVE it.

The control takes a while to get used to but I find large, flowing movements are generally awarded. The songs are very upbeat. Given my age I absolutely hate the song "Come N Ride It(The Train)", but now I love it since I cheered to it (strange that the opposite happened in Guitar Hero Aerosmith).

The only complaint has nothing to do with the game play. Before and after each song are pep-talks that I just skip, but the loading time for them are a pain. Also, while I have a new-found respect for the athletic part of cheerleading, I still find cheerleader talk to be completely ridiculous. Every Oh. Em. Gee. makes me die a little inside. Like. For sure.

I guess it would have been more socially acceptable for me to like this game if instead of cheerleaders these are all karate masters or something, but it's no more self-delusional than dancing on a foam pad or playing a plastic guitar controller.

I recommend this game to EVERYONE who have enough space in front of their wii to enjoy it to the fullest. I also recommend getting wrist and ankle weighs and turning this into a pretty respectable work-out.

This game is by far the best WII game I have played. It is SO much fun! I played it for 6 hours straight yesturday, and so far today I have played it for 3 hours and Im not done yet! :D

If you are into dancing, and stuff like that than you will like this game. I recommend it for ages 9 and up. For kids younger than 9 it might be a little to complicated. I am 15, and this game is my new obsession :)

Honest reviews on We Cheer - Nintendo Wii

First off...I'm a married man with two children and definitely in touch with my Y chromosome.

That said, who would have thought I'd like cheerleading!?

Well, this game, which I initially bought for my oldest daughter, has become a sensation and addiction for both my wife and I. It provides a fun workout for your arms (and if you have enough skills, your body). You will workup a sweat if you do this game with vigor.

The music is great, and even songs which might have otherwise annoyed me, I've found have worked their way to my Ipod.

My daughter is 6 1/2 at the time of this writing, and I'd have to say the game is much too difficult for her. Its hard for an adult, or at least one who isn't a natural dancer/cheerleader. I'd put this game at just right for those over 11, but it has a steep learning curve as you try to learn what the arrows mean. Easier to just watch what the cheerleader on screen is doing and try to mirror it. This may be difficult however if she turns her back to you, because if you do the same, you'll have to look over your shoulder to get the next move correct.

The game is very (overly)sensitive to mistakes, so you will find some frustrations as it tells you you screwed up when you really think you were on target. I took 1 star off the overall review over this issue, because I think this is a real problem.

Great party game!

11/6/08 small update. Well, I came home from work and my daughter surprised me by showing how she could beat the C'mon N'ride it routine on easy level, after working on it a while. So, with patience and practice, seems a 6 to 7 year old with good self-control can succeed at it.

This is a great game, but it does have a learning curve. I was almost ready to give up after several failures, but after lots of practice combined with tips gleaned off the internet, I caught on and started passing. I've now passed all the stages and I'm hooked on this game! This plus Active Life Outdoor Challenge and Helix have really brought my Wii back to life.

The game's biggest problem IMO is that the directions and tutorial don't do it justice. First, READ the manual. Unlike most video game manuals that are mainly ad copy plus warnings not to play Wii in the bathtub, the We Cheer manual explains how the "championship" mode works (passing the stages and unlocking songs). Two other points that will help you succeed:

-Mirror the cheerleader! Don't just focus on the lines, like in Elite Beat Agents. Try to copy her arm movements as if you're doing an exercise video. Even following her body will help, like kneeling on the ground, twirling and jumping. Get ready to sweat!

-This game is 3-dimensional. In other words, you're not just tracing lines on an imaginary wall in front of you; you also need to move your arms forward and back and around your body. Watch for when the cheerleader turns to one side, makes swimming motions, hand rolls, hands on hips or puts her hands behind her head; follow along exactly and you'll score! This game really picks up on exactly where your hands are and what direction and speed they're moving. Make big, hard, sharp motions just like a real cheerleader. Keep your wrists straight and lock out your joints. (I picked up those last 2 tips from a cheerleading site, and they do help with We Cheer!)

The workout mode, like another reviewer noted, is a good way to practice and is a real hoot. A fat boy asks you to make him over, and at the end of the workout (2 minutes or 4 minutes long) he becomes a thin "after" picture and presents you with a uniform. The moves are very simple, like squats and step-touches. I just wish you could select a song from the songlist rather than listening to generic music. Speaking of the songlist, it is awesome! It's so great to hear original hits by original artists instead of cover versions.

We Cheer has only a few minor technical flaws. Once a song starts, it has to play all the way through; you can't pause or fail out or abort or even go back to the Wii menu. (That doesn't really bother me, but I know others will complain.) Loading times are a bit long, and I wish there was some way to get rid of the "how to hold your remotes" screen (which comes up even if you repeat a song!) and the instructor afterwards telling you how you did.

I really hope enough people have enough patience with We Cheer to make it a hit and a series like DDR or Guitar Hero. For the sequel, it would be fantastic to have multi-song courses or some way to program your own courses. The E-10 rating seems appropriate; younger kids may be frustrated with the skill level of this game. But if you're a grownup, We Cheer may turn you into a kid again. Whooo!

11/8/08 Since everyone else is updating :) I agree with the others that We Cheer is a magnificent, addictive, unique game that is easily worth ten stars or more. I'm in my 40s and my joints have never felt this loose and flexible, and that's after years of doing workout videos. (I don't like yoga or pilates, and most dance videos emphasize legs rather than arms.) This game has real potential in phys ed classes or community centers that use Wii, especially since it doesn't require a floor pad or balance board that can get beat up from heavy use.

Buy Madden NFL 25 Anniversary Edition with NFL Sunday Ticket

Madden NFL 25 Anniversary Edition with NFL Sunday Ticket - Playstation 3

While there seems to be a fair amount of consternation or confusion over the ability to access the ONLINE ONLY NFL Sunday Ticket over 17 weeks as part of the price, there is little doubt that this is one of the best package deals for NFL lovers out this year. Last year I purchased the PS3 Sunday Ticket package for $300, and that allowed for streaming of the entire season in the same way this offer does. Did I have occasional hiccups and freezes in game streams? Yes I did. However, streaming video quality is going to vary GREATLY from one person to another based on all the links in the signal chain from DirectTVs servers to your screen. That being said I was annoyed at missing some plays considering I paid $300 while my brother, who had the TV based package, paid the same amount and had little to no problems all season with signal.

So what you need to consider here is the amazing value proposition you have here. You are getting 17 weeks of ONLINE ONLY Sunday Ticket football for just $40 more than the base price of the Madden 25 game. That's a savings to me of over $260 over last year. Is the potential for those same minor streaming annoyances worth the risk of $40? I feel it is ABSOLUTELY worth it even if I have the exact same experiences as last year. To be fair to DirectTV, my issues were largely in the first two weeks of the season and the rest of the season went with nary a skip in video quality. Think about it for a moment compared to signing up for a 2-year satellite contract and throwing an additional $300 on top of that JUST because you love football. The $40 for online viewing is simply an outright steal.

Those saying in reviews that it doesn't work online have likely gone further than they needed to go after authentication at this time. If you want to be successful with the included code, here is what I suggest you do.

1. First authenticate the provided username and password on the slip in the game on a PC or MAC in your web browser. Avoid starting this process on your tablet or phone if possible.

2. The dedicated site page will tell you that you Now Have Access to NFL Sunday Ticket Online. It will also have a link on that page. DO NOT CLICK THAT LINK UNTIL THE SUNDAY TICKET SEASON STARTS on September 8th, 2013. (Thursday, Monday, and Sunday NIGHT games are not accessible as they are national feeds in prime time and not market specific).

3. On your tablet, download the NFL Sunday Ticket app if your device supports it. (I believe that only iPhone, iPad, and Android is currently available).

4. On game day, online access to Sunday Ticket starts approximately 30 minutes before the first kickoffs of the day. Enter the provided username and password in the device app at that time, OR return to the login page on your PC or MAC browser. The Red Zone channel may be the only channel with actual live footage until about 15 minutes before the game.

5. ENJOY! Some channels may be blacked out based on your ISP location if it considers you "local" to that area. For instance, if you are able to watch the Chicago Bears on your TV set and your ISP is based in that area, the app may "blackout" Sunday Ticket access for that local game.

Airplay mirroring If you are on an Apple iDevice of some kind and you have AppleTV, there is no in app icon to send the stream to AppleTV. However, you an try this workaround. Once you have the video stream working on your device, double click the home button and thumb the tray icons to the right as far as you can go and you will see the media controls. The Airplay control will be visible there. In Airplay options, enable mirroring to your TV and then select Apple TV as the output device. Apple TV should now display ANYTHING you are looking at on your iDevice, including video and audio from the app. You may have to maximize video on your device for it to look best on the screen. Good luck!

Finally, the Madden 25 game itself is largely what we have seen in other years, with the return of the beloved Franchise Mode. While that is nice, the game itself does not stand alone as a special edition with cool new features. It still has some of the same pros and cons of the last three releases, and is not a great deal as a game alone. The package with Sunday Ticket, however, is just awesome!

I bought it for NFL Sunday Ticket. Yes, the codes do actually work. Make sure you enter the email and the password on a PC/Laptop with full browser first before trying to access it on mobile devices. Make sure you also enter the email address and password exactly as it is written on your sheet. It does give you the option to change your password and email address in account settings as well (I would be cautious on changing the email as some people have been locked out of their accounts once they did.) If you have a PC/Laptop with HDMI output, or a mobile device that supports streaming output, thats great.

This is bar none the best collectors edition deal in video game history since Sunday Ticket by itself cost over $200

As for the game......I didnt even play it, LOL

Best Deals for Madden NFL 25 Anniversary Edition with NFL Sunday Ticket

I haven't played Madden for a few years but picked up the game this year because of the Sunday Ticket offer. After 2-3 weeks of playing Madden, my honest assessment of this game is that its horrible. The menus are super slow, there's long loading times, and gameplay is only passable. What really bothers me about this game is the presentation, all the pre-game and half time animations are stale and repetitive and the announcers are horrible. Jim Nantz and Phil Sims say random things throughout the game that make no sense (e.g. I'll sack the QB and then on the next play Phil Sims will start talking about how strong the O-line play has been). This game is so bad, I traded it in for some credit and will not be purchasing future editions.

Menus freeze, game freezes the directv promotion is broken and EA and Directv have me going back and forth with the other one pointing fingers, 40 minute hold times..... this whole experience was a joke EA is a joke the Madden franchise is done, dead, kaput, GIVE UP THE LICENCE!!!!!! If you have any self respect for yourself NEVER buy another Madden game! This game is being returned Amazon can shove this worthless disk right up Mr. Madden's @$$!

The Legend of Zelda is my favorite series in all of gaming, a lifelong hobby of mine and a favorite pastime in and of itself, and The Wind Waker just happens to be my favorite entry in that series. When I first glimpsed the screenshots Nintendo revealed of this remake, I literally danced for joy all the way to my bedroom to wake my wife with the blessed news. I just couldn't contain my excitement, and now that I finally have Wind Waker HD in my possession, it's nearly everything I could have hoped for from one of my personal favorite and most influential video games of all time. Although I was pretty skeptical it could be *that* much of an upgrade when I first bought it, Nintendo really went all-out here, way beyond my expectations. Before you read this review any further, I need to insert this disclaimer: this review will be quite long (hopefully in an informative-from-a-superfan sort of way) and (mostly) full of gushing praise from a lifelong gamer who is super passionate about The Wind Waker. If long, detailed reviews are not your thing, then skip this one. You've been warned.

For fans of Wind Waker who already know how amazing the core game is and just want to know what Nintendo upgraded and how this remake works out, skip the next two paragraphs. I bought the downloadable eshop version two weeks ago, and have become intimately acquainted with this remake by now, and I've played the original more times than I care to count. That been said, I think I'm more than capable of judging this version fairly.

*What's So Great About The Wind Waker?*

If you're unfamiliar with the game at all, you might wonder why I love Wind Waker so much. Well, it'd take a full-on dissertation to cover all that and I want this to mainly be about the remake itself, so I'll try to sum up my feelings quickly. It's true that pretty much every game in the Zelda series does a wonderful job capturing the epic tale of the "hero's journey." However, few Zelda games, and hardly any other games in general for that matter, have managed to capture the genuine and amazing feelings of discovery, exploration, and adventure like The Wind Waker did, at least for me anyway (Disclaimer: I love all Zelda games and am not bashing *insert your favorite Zelda title here* with that statement by any means. It's all subjective, right?). The timeless graphical style is so vibrantly colorful and imagination fueled/fueling, complimented very well by its timeless sound design and stirring, iconic musical score from Koji Kondo. The surprisingly mature, deep, and impactful narrative is juxtaposed beautifully against the colorful "Toon" aesthetics. The entire cast of characters is lovable and unique because of the fantastic writing and localization. The graphical style helped in this area as well, as the cartoon/anime style made for beautifully expressive characters (I personally find character expressions in WW to be preferable to the prevalent motion capturing and photo-realism you see in games these days. I like video games that don't always try to be interactive movies like so many modern "games" these days do. In my opinion, that approach ditches what makes video games such a unique, magical medium). In my opinion, The Wind Waker also features the most deep/interesting/engaging/sympathetic depiction of the series' mainstay villain, Ganondorf/Ganon. Even to this day, the brand new oceanic setting and nautical theme makes the game feel so fresh in comparison with other entries in the series. Every race and island feels genuinely real and likable, giving an amazing sense of connection to the world despite its gargantuan size, which in turn makes the quest feel all the more urgent. When it comes to gameplay, the established LoZ mechanics were more refined than ever, and the new gameplay mechanics fit the series perfectly. The swordplay is still among the best of any traditional 3D Zelda game to date, in my opinion. It all just screams top-notch, timeless masterpiece for me. The game literally changed my tastes and gaming horizons forever when I first played it all those years ago, and my love for it has only deepened with time. To see it get a genuine HD remake treatment is an absolute dream-come-true for me.

The original was not a perfect game though and I readily admit that. The game has a few noticeable flaws that keep it from the status of perfection that masterpieces such as Link's Awakening, Ocarina of Time, A Link to the Past, and (arguably) Twilight Princess have attained. No, the original was not quite perfect, but WW got so much right, it still ranks as my favorite Zelda entry. I have so many fond memories of playing it when I was younger; my baby sister used to love sitting at my feet and just watching me play, unable to read yet so I would read the words to her with the best acting ability I could muster (Grandma was read with my best sweet ol' granny voice, for example, lol). I've played this game so many times since then, it's the definition of a seminal game for me. Thankfully, this remake fixes almost all of the issues that weighed the original down, which I'll get to later. With WWHD, now I do consider it a flawless masterpiece, like the aforementioned legendary Zelda classics.

*A Review of The Wind Waker HD as a Remake*

That's enough about my nostalgic rambling though. This is a review of Wind Waker HD after all, so the real question is, how does this game fare with regards to the remake treatment it received? To put it simply, fantastic, amazing, utterly beautiful. It feels like a brand new game again.

The first thing you'll notice when starting up the game is its revamped graphics. The original Wind Waker's graphical style may have been hugely controversial when it was first announced, but the Toon design eventually won most fans over and actually lives on as one of its most timeless aspects. Seriously, the original Gamecube game still looks gorgeous compared to its contemporaries and it is because of this that I was kind of shocked when WWHD was announced (I readily admit that other Zelda titles, even ones newer than WW, seem to beg for a remake treatment more, but I'm not complaining). Still, Nintendo managed to find several ways to visually enhance Toon Link's world. It's all cel shaded still, and most 3D models seem to have little change, aside from much softer, more realistic shadows and edges on them. All textures have been redone completely and look fantastic in HD! Colors are far more vibrant than ever before and the range of colors has increased dramatically. The most noticeable graphical addition here are some very impressive enhanced lighting and shading effects. Because of all these new upgrades to the visuals, the majestic atmosphere of an endless deep blue ocean or encountering a thunderstorm at sunset while at sea (one of my favorite memories of the original) is simply unmatched. Seriously, take a look at the moon at night and marvel at how the world seems to be bathed in that lunar light, or the forbidden fortress with its incredibly thick level of atmosphere, or heck, even just soaking in the sun with the salty sea air breezing by. It's unbelievably gorgeous and immersive. The lighting shines through even in small moments, such as when weapons clash and sparks fly or when an opened treasure chest lets out a heavenly light. It's just awesome. Memorable locales and events (and anyone who has played the original knows this game has many of them) all have new life breathed into them because of the awesome new updated presentation. Some events have been really enhanced to new levels. Watching the game play out almost feels as if Pixar made a Zelda movie. Seriously, fantastic job here!

Contrary to my expectations, Nintendo made substantial upgrades to WW's formula in other ways too. Even the basic gameplay mechanics have been improved. The overall experience feels much smoother and more refined than the original. For example. the grappling hook item now wraps around your target much faster. Also, you don't have to come to a complete stop to switch your direction while swinging with the hook; you can just naturally change direction in mid-swing. These tweaks make using the grappling hook much more enjoyable and streamlined. Text scrolls much faster now in conversations than in the original. The Wind Waker itself is always mapped to "up" on the d-pad making it much more convenient to use. Little tweaks like this are everywhere in WWHD. These little gameplay refinements add up very quickly, and the overall experience is all the better for it. Controls feel more responsive, movement feels smoother, and everything just feels refined to perfection. Add this to the graphical improvements and new features exclusive to this version, and you get what feels like a brand new game. It's hard to explain, but you'll see what I mean when you play it for yourself. Some new ideas are neat and fit in with the classic experience very well too. One example of this is that you can now enter a basic first-person view and actually walk around and use some items like the boomerang or bow in this perspective. Don't expect an experience like Skyrim, but it is a pretty cool addition.

As far as new, system specific features goes, the Wii-U's signature hallmark, the gamepad, is utilized very well. Off-TV play works like a charm. Being able to relax in bed and enjoy the game is a very welcome addition. The touch screen is also used to good effect, making inventory management, accessing items like the hook or canon while at sea, or looking at the map of the great sea without having to pause the game a breeze. It makes for a smoother, more seamless experience. Being able to direct Link's use of the Wind Waker baton using touch controls feels natural. You can use the gamepad's gyroscopic feature to better aim things like your bow, picto-box, telescope, you name it, and it all feels fantastic. It's games like this that really show the potential and unique benefits of the gamepad. The Wii-U's button layout also makes the game better, as you now have many more buttons to map items to compared to the GameCube original. If you don't want to use the gamepad, you have the option to switch control to the Pro Controller for a more traditional experience. I think it's very nice that they put in that choice for players.

Another Wii-U feature that has been integrated really well is Miiverse. The original Wind Waker allowed you to connect your Gameboy Advance to your GameCube to access some unique but nonessential features involving Tingle and even a little co-op mode of sorts. That has all been taken out and replaced with the Tingle Bottle. This is where Miiverse comes in. At any time, you can take the bottle out and use the gamepad to type a message, draw a picture, or even take a photo with the in-game pictograph, put it in the bottle, and hurl it into the sea. Then, somewhere else in the real world, another player may see your glittering bottle washed up on a beach in their game. They can pick it up and see whatever message you put in the bottle. It's such a neat feature, and it fits right in with the rest of the themes of adventure on the high seas so prevalent in the game. Seriously, just the concept of a message in a bottle is so magical by itself, and using that as the Miiverse feature in WWHD feels like a perfect match. Awesome.

Remember how I mentioned the original Wind Waker had some caveats earlier? Most of them have been fixed in this remake! A bit into the game, you gain the ability to speed up sailing to a massive degree, via a "red sail" upgrade purchasable at the in-game auction house. You don't even need wind in the direction you're going to get this super speed. This update erases any frustration from getting from one locale to another using the "slow" sailing of the original almost entirely (Many people complain about the sailing in the original, but I personally loved the sailing a lot and think complaining about is missing the point, but oh well. The fast sailing feature here is a welcome addition, at any rate). The non-confrontational, easier difficulty of the original has been "fixed" via a much more challenging "hero mode" option similar to the one found in Skyward Sword, where enemies do double damage and the only method of healing Link is through potions. Even better, this more difficult mode is available right off the bat without having to play the whole game first! Best of all, they addressed my biggest gripe about the original: the infamous, horrendous Tri-Force piece fetch quest that all but ruined the otherwise perfect pace of the original. They fixed this by making it MUCH more streamlined and actually engaging, and that's awesome! Thank you so much for listening to fans and fixing these issues Aonuma-San. You're the best!

As much as this remake enhances the original WW's magic in many ways, it is, once again, not quite *all* I had hoped for. I really wish they had gone all-out in every aspect since this is a home console remake. They did nothing to add any substantial new content. Just one new dungeon would have made me so happy, and it's not unheard of for Nintendo to do this with enhanced Zelda titles (Link's Awakening DX comes to mind), but no. I know Aonuma wanted to keep the core experience intact here, and much of the original WW's cut content ended up in later Zelda games, but still, it's a slight shame. Ah well, at least the core game is such a masterpiece. Also, Koji Kondo's soundtrack for this game is one of my favorites of any video game ever. Yet, not much work was done to enhance it for this remake beyond some remastering of the original tunes. To be fair, some tunes do come across as a lot beefier and sound amazing, but not all. It would have been awesome to get Skyward Sword quality orchestration of at least some of this iconic soundtrack, but alas. Finally, and this is an admittedly nit-picky gripe, you can't invert the Y-axis of the second analog stick while in normal view. You can only invert right/left and you can invert the Y-axis of first-person view, but not the general Y-axis? Talk about jarring and difficult to get used to, at least for me anyway (I'm one of those guys who likes inverted controls). Why not put that option in for players, huh?! As you can tell by my score, these issues didn't keep me from loving the game, but I still feel they must be said. It's only fair for me to voice some criticism, right? I don't want you to think I'm completely blinded by bias, after all.

I understand some don't like reading long reviews, but if any remake deserved an in-depth analysis, it's this one. I'm so glad Nintendo decided to remake and enhance it to the degree that they did. Few games have made the huge impact on me the way that Wind Waker has. It's so surreal to think that when I first played it, I was just a kid not much older than Link is in this game, so young and naive. Now I'm an older (but still young) man with his own family and yet I feel the same childlike excitement when I play The Wind Waker HD, having gone though my own journey in life (with a lot left to go, hopefully :P). Everything about WWHD, the characters, the settings, the story, just the overall experience, it all just feels so familiar and yet brand new and magical again. It's a beautiful and surreal thing. Thank you so much Nintendo, for giving me the definitive version of one of my most beloved games of all time. The Wind Waker was always a flawed gem, but this remake has made it into a virtually caveat-free masterpiece and can now stand tall and proud among other flawless Zelda games. Not only that, but it stands tall among all video games, period. It really feels like a modern masterpiece, despite the fact that the core here is over a decade old, in much the same way playing other fantastic remakes like Halo Anniversary, Klonoa, and Ocarina of Time 3D feels. All great remakes, and WWHD fits in that high-quality group perfectly.

To you readers who stuck with this review until now, I hope my sappiness and wordiness hasn't been too annoying. I sincerely hoped to be helpful to all of you out there wondering if you should get this. Most "remakes" these days end up being incredibly lazy ports with no real effort put into the rerelease beyond upscaling resolution and no more. WWHD is so much grander and better than 95% of today's "remakes," remasters, and rereleases, it's not even funny. Trust me, I went into this remake with a huge amount of skepticism that they could really improve this game, and I really did wonder if the changes could justify buying it again, but I did anyway and boy am I glad I did! I say it's absolutely worth it. This is, without a doubt, the definitive version of a true classic and revitalizes it to the point where it feels brand new again. Go out and buy it immediately, and enjoy one of the greatest Legends of Zelda that has ever been told. Buy it, prepare for the adventure of your life, and go discover, and save, a vast, beautiful new world.

I'm not going to give a lengthy review full of minute details, spoilers and pros and cons. This game is fun, pure and simple. It is hard enough to be a challenge, yet simple enough to encourage continued playing. It is appropriate for children; no close-up exploding headshots with exotic weapons or multiplayer battlefield death arenas that seem to be popular nowadays. I've had this game for 4 hours now. It is already much better than twilight princess or skyward sword. Sometimes, simpler is better.

Best Deals for The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker HD

One of the most amazing things about Wind Waker HD is how well it holds up today. The gameplay is fine-tuned to near perfection, showcasing some of the best sword combat in the series. Focusing on horizontal and vertical attacks, combined with dodge and parry, taking down foes is easy and fun. Dungeons are littered with clever puzzles that were fun to rediscover. The intricacy of their design has always been one of the highlights of the series. Bosses are also a highlight, sticking with the traditional Zelda formula, each one is dispensed cleverly by the dungeon's obtained item, and each one is bigger, and more impressive than the last.

The opening few hours definitely feel like an extended tutorial, but that is pretty standard with Zelda games. Anyone coming in fresh should note that until Dragon Roost Island is introduced, and sailing begins, it definitely takes some time to get moving.

When Wind Waker was originally released, it had a few drawbacks that players to this daystill can't get over. The biggest is the massive fetch quest at the end of the game that forces Link to find eight treasure charts throughout the world. Not only that, but he then had to pay Tingle (the charming side character in the game) 398 rupees to decipher each one. It took way too long, and actually prevented me from finishing the game initially. With Wind Waker HD this has been remedied. Five of the eight pieces are found without maps, which speed up the process substantially, and makes the endgame portion much more bearable.

The other drawback to the original was the sailing. While it starts out novel and fun, it quickly becomes tiresome due to the fact that Link has to play a magical tune on his Wind Waker to change the direction of the wind. In this version however, I purchased a new item immediately after the first dungeon called the Swift Sail. This allows Link to changed direction without the Wind Waker, and also increases the speed of travel by a noticeable margin. This makes travelling around the world of Hyrule much, much quicker.

The rest of the changes are less impactful, but still extremely helpful. Little tweaks like a larger wallet from the outset made opening chests and cutting bushes early on more useful. The Wind Waker is now mapped to the d-pad, making it take up one less space on my items bar. Inventory management is also now done on the gamepad, granted I wasn't playing with the Pro Controller. This makes swapping out what I need quicker, and more efficient, and of course the map can be accessed from the gamepad as well. Almost every gripe about the original has been fixed or tweaked, making this feel like much more than a visual upgrade.

I don't think I have to mention also just how massive this game is. For anyone who has never played Wind Waker, there is a glorious amount of content here just waiting to be discovered. Those that are returning for a second dose will be thrilled with the improvements, making it worth returning, especially after all of these years. For anyone that owns a Wii U this game is a must-have. This is much more than just a visual upgrade, this new version brings back one of the last great Zelda games to not focus on motion control. The art style may be polarizing, but the gameplay is undeniable. This is one of the most memorable experiences in the history of gaming, and it is a shame if anyone misses out on it.

Honest reviews on The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker HD

So many reviews here focussed on comparisons with the original version, I thought someone needed to pipe in who'd never played it before.

At first glance this is a surprisingly charming game (and that's from someone, who tends to ignore the text and story). As you get more involved, you'll discover what an incredibly vast, rich game it is. The sheer amount of content is almost overwhelming. But for me the real enjoyment comes from the endlessly clever puzzles/mysteries and villains built into the game. The dungeons are the a wonderful mixture of brain and braun challenges in a graphically rich environment.

Controls: Part of the joy of play comes from being rewarded with new tools/weapons as you progress. Most are really fun to play with. However, I personally found a few very awkward: arrows especially at least till I switched to using GamePad's gyroscope controls. I still find trying to manipulate the canon very difficult. But I don't feel comfortable deducting a star here, since this could be user error. I much prefer the motion controls as in the Wii Zelda's but I think I'm in the minority here

Graphics: INMO This is strictly a matter of personal taste. If you like hyper-real blood-dripping graphics this game is NOT for you. I actually prefer the cartoonish characters and the artistically stunning interiors.

Overall, I think this is a fabulous game, lots of play for your bucks, and there's really nothing comparable (short of the best of Zelda games) on the market.

This game is a classic remade with HD visuals. It's heartwarming adventure brings out the inner child in you. For a classic remake its such a fresh distraction from all the fps(which I do play)and open world sand-box games that are just flooding the market. I'm not going to go into a lot of details and just keep it brief. If you're not close-minded and insecure about your maturity then get or at least rent this game, and then get it cause it is beautiful. It's just a simple delight and joy to play.

Cheap Boogie Superstar with Microphone - Nintendo Wii

Boogie Superstar with Microphone - Nintendo Wii

I have never tried the first version, Boogie, which didn't get great ratings. However, I can tell that this version is much better already.

The music is obviously targeted at the younger generation with the Top 40 type of music, as opposed to the oldies but goodies of American Idol 1 (not sure about AI 2 yet). The genres are pop, urban, and electrodance. When you play more often, more songs are unlocked at higher difficulties. Additional songs cannot be downloaded through Wi-Fi, which I heard is a new option for American Idol 2. By the way, my unlocked music is only available for me under my character, while others still have to work at getting more songs to reach the same level.

The music plays at one speed, so I did feel some frustration at the beginning when the lyrics flew across the TV screen. The song words scroll from left to right for both Boogie Super Star and American Idol, while Guitar Hero offers a second option when the lyrics are shown in static mode, meaning one line at a time, which I have found easier to follow. If your eyes are quick, then it's fairly easy to read the lyrics as opposed to the small jammed up font in Guitar Hero.

You have the option to play up to 3 songs per set.

First, select the activity type: dance one at a time, dance side-by-side, sing one at a time, or sing a duet (passing the mic back and forth, which I found hard to do).

Second, decide if you want the song to be random (by the Wii) or selectable (by you).

Although you have set this all up, the game stops in between songs if you decided to select your own music (and take a quick water break for your worn out throat). It does not give you the option to select 6 songs upfront like it does in Guitar Hero for continuous fun.

All of the games mentioned here do not take advantage of your personal Mii character, except for Guitar Hero's side activity of creating your own band. The graphics are more cartoon-y, if you will, as opposed to American Idol which is trying to look realistic. There are 2 male and 3-4 female characters (can't recall the exact number right now), from which to choose for the general look. After that, you can change the skin color, hair color, add tattoos and accessories, switch clothes and shoes, but most of it is "locked" until you have earned enough points.

The microphone is the same for Boogie Super Star, American Idol and Guitar Hero World Tour, so if you own those, you don't have to buy the bundle and save yourself 7 bucks or so. Unfortunately, the duet in this game only uses 1 microphone so you have to learn to share and be quick in passing it back and forth. So I prefer to go head-to-head by singing solos (one player sings after the other). For 2 players, both must dance or both must sing. There is no option for one person to sign and the other dance. The game is rated for 4 players, but I have yet to find enough courageous people. The limitation of one microphone for duets is the biggest con in my opinion, which is not necessarily a show stopper. Although the cord length was not an issue, I do wish the that the microphone was cordless (everything else is!). I decided to buy a mic stand, so that I can be hands free, especially when I try to play guitar for Guitar Hero (double the challenge!).

Each player needs a remote for the dance competition, no mic and no nunchuck. Yes, you really only need to dance with one hand, the hand holding the remote. The Wii does not know what you are doing with your lower body. It was funny to watch my brother compete with me, standing there with only one hand moving, while I'm truly trying to boogie with arms, legs, booty, and all. With that said, if you put your energy into it, Boogie Super Star does get you off the couch so you can burn some calories if you do it long enough.

This game is good for people who like to sing in the shower as well as the karaoke super stars. Boogie Super Star offers the extra element of dancing, while American Idol focuses on singing. This game also works for people who want to learn some coordination in the privacy of their own home before taking over the dance floor at a local club. Ok, ok, ok, the dance moves in Boogie Super Star don't quite translate to real life dancing, but it still does teach you how to stay on beat. The Wii can tell if you are doing the "Eagle" dance move on tempo (there's a tempo meter which tells you to speed up or slow down). There are 4 basic dance moves and 4 special moves per genre, which come to a total of 16. There are also "combos", which are self-explanatory. Don't worry, a "dance guide" poster is included with the game, which was more helpful than the instructional manual. For more advanced skills, you'll have to attend professional dance classes. I do think it will be quite hilarious if and when I recognize someone using the Boogie Super Star dance moves in real life at a dance club!

There is a dance "academy" feature. You can record your own routine and save it, then use it later during a competition. I found this quite amusing actually when you see your character (you) replay. You really need to know the dance moves by heart at this point to make up a decent routine. Have no fear for the 2-left footed folk, there is a training section. You can learn one dance move at a time and you keep doing it until you have been on tempo (green light) for a set time.

This game is not for serious singing and dancing as opposed to other games, such as American Idol and Dancing with the Stars. There are also 3 judges like that in American Idol, but their commentary is very short and sweet 1-2 liners and can be skipped by pressing the A button. For real-life examples, there are several homemade videos on YouTube if you want to see some people in action. But I find it much more fun and amusing when YOU are the Boogie Super Star! Bottom line: Yes, I'd buy it again.

I bought this game for my daughter who wants to sing and dance yet is not a gamer and has not had any interest in the Wii. My daughter is still in elementary school and luckily this game is not too mature for her (I censor two songs using the select vs random song selection function). She loves the characters and the cute graphics. Some of the commentators ('judges') can be a little rude yet during the action the game also encourages her to keep trying. I hope there is another song bundle as I am unsure how long it is going to take her to unlock some of the other songs. My son, who is five, even tries as well just because he sees how much fun the girls are having.

In short, she loves it her friends love it too and it keeps them dancing for hours. I enjoy it too because the laughter fills the house.

Best Deals for Boogie Superstar with Microphone - Nintendo Wii

My daughter got this game for Christmas. She loves Hannah Montana and HSM, but was really dissapointed with those singing/dancing games. Boogie Super Star just rocks!!

Someone else has already written about all the different parts of the game, so I will just tell you what we like etc.

The one downside to it is that you have to go in with the name/symbols they give the character you pick. You can go in and change that, but it would be nice to do it from the beginning. However as far as the clothing being locked etc, we wanted to get into playing the game so much that we left them as they came.

The Superstar mode is a blast. You can customize your contest so you can do as much dancing/singing/duets as you want. You can even choose less than three rounds if you want. You can also choose your songs or let them be picked at random. If you choose the random option the game makes sure it does not pick songs that are too easy for you. Once you score high enough it says some songs are too easy and you can still sing them but it assesses a penalty like -0.5 points, etc.

At first we went with the songs we knew, but it was actually more fun to let the computer choose to spice things up and let you learn more of the songs.

Another fun thing you can do is let "vickie" the evil judge, add some glitches while you sing. She will drop bombs on your songs that do things like distort the music, make the pitch markers invisible, take away the music, scribble on top of the lyrics. It doen't last the whole song, but it adds more fun to the contest especially when you still do good in spite of the glitches.

One person said that sometimes the moves don't register with the Wii remote. I found that at first too, but realized the problem was in the way I was doing them. For example, with the "criss cross" dance move, instead of pumping your arms into and out of the move (like it shows) simply move your arms across and away from your body without ever lifting your hands up. One smooth movement. And, with the tornado, instead of going in a circle like the dancer, just swing your arms from one side to the other over your head. The circle causes the delay. If you think of making a smooth movement instead of a jerky one it helps.

I hope this helps someone. I am 30 years old and I love this game more than my kids do, lol!

ETA: after playing for several hours yesterday I woke up with a severe case of vertigo (which I am just prone to) I found out later after attempting to play this game again that it was the scrolling karaoke that caused it. I will play it again, just not until my vertigo goes away again.

Absolutely love this game. I'm not really a game person, but spent all day singing and dancing. Very east to play, even my 5 year old had a blast. Great game for the family.

Mortal Kombat - Xbox 360 Review

Mortal Kombat - Xbox 360

In late 1992 I walked into an Arcade at the age of 10 years old. At the time Arcade gaming was enjoying quite a bit of success at family fun parks, and this Birthday trip was about to introduce me to one of the greatest series to every hit the arcades and consoles.

To this day I still want to hit Block, Up, Up to finish characters off when I play as my man Scorpion...however, the urge to play any kind of Mortal Kombat has long since left. After MKII and MK3 things got pretty rocky in the "quality/fun" department of the Mortal Kombat series. I played many of the games, but the last 3 offerings I haven't bothered more than a few minutes playing.

THIS GAME however has changed ALL of that!!

This my friends is THE Mortal Kombat game that fans have been wanting and missing all these years. This is an absolute, all out feature fest of fighting modes and options. The challenge mode alone has over 300 options to play through and the customized modes have literally an endless supply of options to tweak the game as you see fit.

All the classic characters and favorites included in the game are well represented. All of the costumes are here too...from the 90's style uniforms to unlock-able classics and sweet special outfits. No one will regret this purchase. If you want THE BEST fighting game of recent memory (and yes I play them all) along with the most diverse set of options and FUN modes, then this is your ticket.

The extreme and even "offensive" (haha) violence, awesome sound, and immense fun is finally back with a wonderful new fighting engine and all the things that made a 10 year old boy spend hundreds of quarters at the arcade all those years ago. Mortal Kombat has FINALLY returned!!!

Note: Ignore the one star review. If it doesn't get deleted by Amazon in the first place, the guy has no clue what he's talking about...which is obvious. The Xbox 360 version actually has slightly sharper textures, and a Cleaner and Darker look to it..not to mention better lighting/shadow casting. This is from a side by side comparison..and a GPU based difference in the two games. You can visit lensoftruth.com to see the difference if you want. I'm not bashing the PS3 version though, it is basically equal to the 360 version and vice versa. You are buying one beauty of a game on EITHER console.

I am writing this review to hopefully put some minds at ease. I wrote the first review on Mortal Kombat for PS3 after I played the game into the wee hours of the morning. I gave it high praise on that system (feel free to read it if you want to hear my actual opinion of the game, It absolutely applies to you 360 owners, too). I even mentioned Kratos being a cool edition to the game and all the things I appreciated about the game. However, I noticed there are some reviews on here blasting the game on the 360 console for some reason. I have no idea why people are loyal to a console to the point where they must disparage another product. I guess being anonymous makes it okay for some to be dishonorable and deceiving about the product, but I digress from what I came here to tell you.

The game on 360 is excellent. I find it to be just as fun, and the online experience (the reason I got a 360 copy) is rich and enjoyable right from the get-go. I actually prefer using the 360 controller for competitive matches, a mere preference of mine.

About Kratos

I know a lot of 360 owners are bummed about not getting an exclusive character. In fact this is the only legitimate area where the PS3 has an advantage in my opinion. I can tell you that while Kratos is cool, he is only available to use in the versus mode and does not affect the main store aspects. He does fit in nicely with the Mortal Kombat universe and has spiffy special moves and fatalities. So maybe check them out on You-Tube for a grin and go back to the rich and fully-satisfying Xbox version. After all, you are not missing much, certainly not enough for me to deduct a star. You do get to use your custom avatar in the online King of the Hill Mode, which is rather cool, too.

If you have any questions about either game on either system, feel free to leave a comment and I'll be happy to answer as soon I can. Till then, enjoy the excellent experience that is Mortal Kombat.

Having just picked this up I've had a couple of hours to test drive it before heading off to work. I'll be sure to update this review over the next few days when I have a more definite opinion but wanted to give the Amazon crowd my initial thoughts.

So far, I'm in love with the game. Playing locally against a friend is a blast and takes me back. Call me sentimental, but this game takes me back to my childhood playing against my brother when mom and dad weren't around (we had to convince them it wasn't to violent). As soon as you finish your first fight you'll have a smile on your face and be looking for another.

The violence and sound really are what sell this game from the get go. It takes the game back to its roots and some of the fatalities are simply amazing. With plenty of unlocks and various single player content, one will have a lot to do in this new version.

The graphics look fine on my HD TV, while they are not the greatest they are far from bad. As a previous reviewer stated, both consoles are about even and graphics are actually pretty impressive (comparing it to other fighting games).

With that said, I still need to explore the single player more for the review to be truly fair. But lets be honest, this game is designed to be played locally with friends and at that it succeeds. This will definitely be a go to game any time your looking to get a few friends together and have a good time.

Honest reviews on Mortal Kombat - Xbox 360

Alright let's be frank. This game is for all the people who loved the first 3 MK's. After that Mortal Kombat 3, the games stared to go downhill. You want everything back to old school with some new material. Then this mortal kombat is for you. Those who thought the games after Mortal Kombat 4 were better then the first three. Don't bother buying or reviewing this game. Your comments will already be checked at the door. Talk about a 5/5.

Find helpful customer reviews and review ratings for Mortal Kombat - Xbox 360

First, I'd like to say that anyone who went out of their way to complain about this game's "updating" issues and gave this game a 1 is utterly ridiculous. Welcome to day 1 of any new gamethere are bound to be issues.

Second, This game is AT LEAST a 4/5. I wont even go into any details over how many 5/5's and 95%+ reviews I've seen for this game. This game is greatenough said. Its been a long time since we've seen Mortal Kombat and its quite welcome on our generations consoles. It really deserves a 4.5 from me but Amazon only has a 4 or 5 and I can't give it a 5/5.

I gave this game a 4/5 for a few reasons but one of the main ones was that were I to use a code included in my game case, I would effectively be screwing over the next person who gets my game (if I were to ever trade it in). Similar to EA's online pass, you need to pay a fee to play online. They do include a 2-day pass but to me these kinds of tactics are unwarranted and ridiculous. I bought some of my favorite games used so to me it thwarts those cheap gamers that will hold out for used copies of this game only to find out it will cost them virtually the same if it were new. May not seem like a big issue but its not a good road to start heading down.

Alsoits been said many times that some of the boss fights are just crazy...I've had to re-do a few fights over and over again but I'm not the kinda gamer who gives up so it didn't make me annoyed, it was simply ridiculous as I was absolutely obliterated during some battles. That being said...The game itself isn't truly that hard. You will win a lot of your fights. I cannot say the same for the other modes though like the challenge tower since its so meticulous and difficult. I haven't beat the single player completely yet but I'm already going to say that it could have probably been a bit longer as the events are beginning to conclude in my game. I will certainly play through again when I do beat it shortly.

Gameplay: (5/5) You know what to expect. I fight. I win or lose. Fatalities. Blood. Gore. Its all there. The X-ray moves you pull off are absolutely stunning and convenient if you aren't winning in a fight and want to turn the tables. Every character has a series of moves to do followed by enhanced moves and special moves as well as fatalities. The tag team is by far the coolest thing I've seen in a fighting game as sometimes you can pull out a fighter, throw in a new one and attack the other player before they have a chance to even notice. The physics aren't exactly real but it all feels right. The characters don't play clunky or slow. The pacing of the fights is well done as well.

Fun: (5/5) There are different modes to try, online mode, tag-team, practice rounds, etc...Plenty to do. I've spent most of my time in the single player and it is by far the best single player of any fighting gameguaranteed. There's an actual story along with most of the notable characters in the series. I won't spoil anything for anyone but there are some 'Human' forms of characters and backgrounds which will surprise you. This is a true game for the fans. They even have the guy that appears on the side of your screen that says "Whoopsies!" when you have a series of combos. This game does not lack fun.

Replayability: (5/5) Inviting people over to compete? Going online? Or going solo? Doesn't matteryou can play matches until the end of time. There are plenty of characters and moves to learn (a ridiculous amount). It will take time to master this game. I wasn't getting the "Oh this is quite repetitive" feeling playing this game at all. You don't rank up but you do gain Money/points to spend on alternative costumes, moves/fatalities, concept art, etc. that is all unlockable with the right amount of points.

Graphics: (4/5) A little polish sometimes wouldn't have killed anyone but the characters still look great. Its awesome seeing these characters in 3d like this with such detail.

Value: (5/5) This is me personally but I know that if I'm tired of a shooter or Gears, Mortal Kombat is the first game I'm putting in. This game is beyond worth it to me. It will only get cheaper as well. I also snatched this up with a pre-order DLC (Reptile's outfit and fatality) and a $10 credit so that has value written all over it.

If you enjoy fighting games, this is for you. If you really aren't into fighting games but love MKyeah this game is for you too probably. If you just think the characters look cool and you are disappointed that this game hasn't changed its formula too much from the originaldon't bother. What you see is what you get. That being said, I really enjoyed this game and it was the first official fighting game I've bought. Is it perfect? No. Is it fun? Oh yeah it is. At the end of the day its simple...If you loved everything about MK, you'll be getting a pleasant surprise with this game. It is by no means a let-down. Its not a cut and dry game either...there's actual substance here to sink your teeth into for quite some time. Once againif you HATE fighting games, just don't buy it because that's what this is. This game doesn't stray too far at all from its original games and formula.

CONS

*Boss Fights can be frustrating

*Graphics are great, but never good enough for some people. I think they are fine.

*Online Pass necessary if original code used in your copy

*Campaign/Single player length isn't too long

*You could jump around forever and button mash your way to victory like most fighting games

PROS

*This is the game MK fans wanted

*Controls do work with new consoles (I love using the d-pad as opposed to the sticks)

*Plenty of modes

*Plenty of characters, unlocks and different background levels

*New X-ray moves, character moves and fatalities

*Developers put a lot of thought into story and characters

*Probability of a sequel and other games

*DLC characters will be released down the road

*Tons of moves to learn for each character

And Finally...Yes...Reptile looks like 'Rango' but I believe everyone has the opportunity to get his original outfit unlocked at some point through the Krypt game mode. This is certainly the BEST MK game to hit store shelves to date. Do the kid-in-you a favor and buy this game.

For how little they, they do it so well. Before I bought them I found that I didn't keep my wireless 360 controllers in the best of storage situations when not in use. This changed everything. My two white 360 controllers now sit prominently in a very decorative manor that express how wonderful they are. And besides, they are only $10 for both.

I always had my xbox controllers lying around. They are great for wireless controllers as i have one controller next to sofa and the rest nicely displayed next to my TV. My only complaint for this product is the small rubber stoppers on the bottom of the "legs" comes off easily but hey for the price what do u expect. Overall a must have for those who wish to display their controllers in style

Best Deals for Xbox 360 Controller Cradles

I just received these and they were exactly what I was expecting. You receive two cradles in the package. Each cradle is white with chrome facing towards the bottom. A leg kicks out to help support the bulk of the cradle. Also, each cradle has small rubber grips that is supposed to help prevent the cradle from sliding around. Overall, I think these are a really good idea, but I do see a few minor problems.

I am a big fan of Call of Duty 4, so I need my wired mic plugged into the controller. But, the cradle doesn't allow you to keep your mic plugged in while its on the cradle. The other minor problem I see is the rubber grip on the bottom seems it could easily fall off if heated via the xBox 360.

Like I said, overall, these cradles are a great option for those people who don't have a great place to store their controllers and don't like them just laying on the floor. And, for less than $10, it's a great deal!

Honest reviews on Xbox 360 Controller Cradles

These are great if you don't want to just leave your controller lying on the coffee table or on the floor. It gives a place for the controller to be and it displays it nicely. It doesn't take up any more space than the controller would by itself just lying there. I bought mine from Amazon for $4.99 and it comes with 2 cradles.

Pro: holds controller well. displays well.

Con: Nothing. Wall mounting optional would of been great.

The Roxio Game Capture HD PRO is exactly what I've been looking for in a capture device for a few years now. It is small/compact and has hdmi connections. It is simple to set up and the software is easy, straightforward, and has numerous features. The only downside is that the software takes a little while (depending on your computer) to install and get going. Along those lines, make sure that your computer has the capability to record hd footage. My main computer for game capture is unable to record with optimum settings (it's a little old :/). Once everything is set up, you just click capture and it captures to the specified folder and you click stop capture when you're done and that's it pretty simple. The price I got it for, due to the special release price, made this a must have for me. The standard price is certainly lower than most HD cap devices, especially with HDMI capability. Overall, I am extremely pleased with this purchase so far. I haven't tried the streaming or direct uploading to youtube but from what I've heard/read those features are effective and convenient.

Pros:

-HDMI!!!

-1080 quality capturing

-software is great

-compact and simple

Cons:

-install time can be long if computer power is poor (mine is) as well as capture quality is dependent on PC

Let me say this first, I am a beginner when it comes to capture cards (although I've recorded game play with a camcorder so does that count?). Anyways, the Roxio Game Capture HD PRO works great; no problems recording and no defects. I've yet to try streaming but I will do that in a future update of this review. The software installation is easy and so is the hardware setup; just plug in two HDMI/Component Cables, connect the card to your USB port and you're good to go(assuming you've installed the software already). The software that comes with it (Roxio VideoWave) is incredibly easy to use although I couldn't customize the render settings, only choose different presets but that's probably because I haven't fiddled around enough with the software. The device itself is incredibly light and compact so I wouldn't leave it someplace where it could get crushed by your foot or something else. If you're having any problems using this then you must have done something wrong(e.g. loose cables, wrong settings, etc.) so make sure if you have any problems that you DOUBLE CHECK everything. If you've done that and are absolutely sure that it isn't you, then you probably have a defective product. I really dislike the way people bash products due to their own human errors. This does NOT INCLUDE HDMI/COMPONENT CABLES so make sure you have the required cables.

Pros:

Lightweight & compact(Is this a good thing?)

Incredibly easy setup(Even a caveman could do it)

Up to 1080p capturing

Cons:

After several months of editing, VideoWave has become such a hassle to use(it will get better I hope)

Sometimes the device won't record even though it's capturing

Final Thoughts:

If you're recording in full quality, it takes about 2 megabytes a second so make sure you have a lot of hard drive space. A 1:23 minute clip took up 158mb of space. Please make sure that your computer meets the recommended system requirements otherwise you'll be an unhappy customer and bash this product because you didn't read. If you want to use your headset and record via HDMI, you will need an audio adapter("RCA / Toslink Audio Adapter for Xbox 360 and Xbox 360 Slim" from MonoPrice). I've uploaded a couple raw MW3 clips to YouTube(DolphLundgrennn)so check them out if you'd like. They don't look as nice as the original files but it's still great. I'll capture some more game play to get the quality even better once I've learned the program.

STREAMING:

I forgot to add this into my review but streaming with VideoWave works well but you need some really fast internet. I have 30 down and 5 up and I can only stream at around 800kbps before it starts to lag.

Updates: 11/1/12

As others have mentioned, Sony Vegas cannot read the audio codec for the recorded files so you'll have to convert the file or stick with VideoWave. It's not a bad program, it's just not as fluid as Vegas.

If you're having screen resolution problems, you need to disable "Auto Custom Scaling" or adjust those settings. Mines was on auto and it was messing up my resolution.

Sometimes you need to switch back to the HDMI input if you're receiving no signal(Using my Audio adapter caused the input to be on "component" instead of "HDMI").

Updates: 11/9/12

If you have a monitor that has a 1650x1050 resolution and you're using this capture card, it may be a bit blurry but not to the point where you cannot see anything. Everything is still HD and very playable, but it may turn some off.

Cannot stream at 1300 kbps with a 3mbps upload so I use around 800kbps in 480p.

A friend recommends using FFSplit(assuming you can install it) and just screen cap the gameplay in the roxio software. He's gotten some really great looking streams.

Updates: 11/18/12

Sometimes the program will freeze and stop working when I stop streaming and try to record. I cannot end the process(via task manager) which forces me to shut down my 360 and restart my PC. It hasn't happened often but it is annoying.

VideoWave doesn't allow you to add more than 2 audio tracks so make sure you save your project before trying so. Adding an audio track(such as sound effects) into the same track works however.

VideoWave is fairly slow and may be annoying to work with for people who are used to Sony Vegas.

Updates: 11/20/12

If you're having the "No Signal" issue and your TV is 1080p, switch that to 720p. Took me a while to figure it out.

Updates: 12/04/12

You can have different outputs meaning if you are capturing via Component, you can output via HDMI too and vice versa.

Sometimes when capturing, it will not actually record so you need to pay attention to the bottom left to see if it's recording(duration, file size created, etc.)

Updates: 2/19/13

Updated the review with "Streaming" info under "Final Thoughts"

VideoWave is becoming incredibly annoying to use to do some basic edits and I think I'm starting to hate it. Doing commentaries or just rendering is fine.

Still works great after about 4 months

Sometimes will record 60fps. Maybe it's my PC but sometimes it would record my CoD videos with 60fps but mostly 30fps now.

Just got this device yesterday and I can say that this device is AMAZING, especially with the price tag. The reason why I'm giving this 5 stars even though I said the software is horrible(which it is), is that it's a fairly new device, and I want to give them some time to fix all of the bugs within the software. The device itself is great, and the quality you get is comparable/better than the HD PVR, Elgato etc. A lot of people say a downside to recording with this device, is that you can't import the clips into other NLEs(Sony Vegas) because the audio doesn't import with it. There is a quick fix on the Roxio forums for that, or you can download "Any Video Recorder" and convert the audio only, which takes about a few seconds. I haven't tried livestreaming yet, as I don't do live streams but I will probably test it out. Instead of pros and cons, I will write what's good about the device, and what's bad about the software as of now.

"What's Good About the Roxio Game Capture HD Pro"

H264 encoder within the device, does all the CPU processing for you.

Component and Hdmi passthrough. If you play in component and have the device hooked up to your PC, you can play with HDMI and record via component(great if you have a second monitor that takes HDMI!).

Great sound card, amazing sound quality.

Doesn't need a power source, just hook up via USB and that's all you need.

Great design, lightweight and sturdy(opinion).

Max bitrate is 15mbps, great for people who do multiple renders like myself.

720p 60fps, 1080p 30fps recordings.

"The Horrible Software" Note that this is MY experience, not yours. You may not have the same problems.

Slow loading times.

If you had problems during the installation, you'll have freezing problems with the software although I fixed it by re-installing.

If you set the bitrate to max(or over the middle of the slider bar), or if you're doing anything else, the screen starts glitching out and so does the recording. If you're having this problem, the only way to fix this as of now is to move the slider to the middle of the quality slider bar and close every program(don't know why) which lets you record at 8-10mbps.

If you mute the audio in the preview window, it doesn't save when you exit.

All in all, the device is outstanding, but the software definitely needs some work, but I will hold on to this device until future software updates as it has A LOT of potential.

Honest reviews on Roxio Game Capture HD PRO

I saved up my Holiday money for this card, hoping to finally get into making gaming videos. Unfortunately, the card is incompatible with my current gaming setup (taking component input and outputting hdmi) and also seems to hate every hdmi-dvi cable (i.e. exactly what I need) since it always outputs a blank signal. I've spent nearly a month diagnosing everything hooked up to this thing, and cannot for the life of me figure out the problem.

And that leaves me with customer support, which they have a complete and total lack of. Well, that's not entirely accurate. You have three options:

1. Read through their brain-dead FAQ (make sure it's plugged in!).

2. Ask for help from fellow disgruntled customers on their practically-dead forums.

3. PAY FOR CUSTOMER SERVICE.

You may think I'm kidding on the last one. Feel free to go to their website, look up support for this product, and instead of finding even a phone number to call for help, or a link to click to talk to somebody, you have the option of paying for a one-time-use, customer support ticket. That's just plain insulting.

I'm not alone, either: just look up reviews for their customer support, and you'll find that the company that they outsource their support to (and of course themselves by association) are loathed for having absolutely no regard for their customers whatsoever.

If you're reading this, it's hopefully because you're doing research on what looks like an appealing product. And who knows, it might even work for you.

But don't expect a single word of real help out of Roxio. And if you're like me, you'll see no reason to support a company with such blatant disregard for its customers. And if you do happen to buy this product, for the love of god, keep the packaging handy and make sure you check the Warranty, because there's a really good reason that an HD Capture Card with these specs is so cheap.

Guitar Hero 3 (GH3) is the fourth iteration in this series of games despite it being labeled the third, though for most people the 80s edition that was the actual third game was a bit of a footnote since it only came out on PS2 and had very little in it that differed from Guitar Hero 2 other than the songs.

GH3 continues with the same basic formula as the previous games which will keep fans of the series happy, but at the same time adds some welcome new features. One of the best additions is that of online play so that you can now do co-op, face-off, pro face-off and battle mode with a friend over the Live network.

The battle mode is a change up from the normal face-off modes in that instead of gaining star power you acquire attacks from playing certain sequences of notes. Then when you turn the guitar up as if you were going to use star power it instead launches an attack at your opponent. The attacks vary in their nastiness and while I was skeptical of this new aspect of the game it's actually a nice twist for those more competitive players.

Another addition is the co-op career mode, but unfortunately you can't play this mode online which means you'll have to get a friend over with their guitar to experience this mode.

Speaking of the guitar the new wireless Gibson Les Paul style guitar controller is a welcome change from the original 360 GH2 controller. Overall it just feels a lot more solid, especially the whammy bar. Not being wired makes a big difference in terms of convenience. There are GH3 bundles out there with the original GH2 controller in them and I would recommend passing on those in favor of the wireless bundle.

The career mode remains mostly the same as in the previous games. There are now little animated vignettes between each set that don't add much to the overall experience, but certainly are a welcome change from the old bus driving across the country scenes in the previous games. The other addition to career mode is that at the end of certain sets you have to enter battle mode with another guitarist. By now most people know that Tom Morello and Slash are the two real guitarists who you battle against in the game. Both contributed original guitar compositions for their battle sections and can be unlocked as avatars in the game.

The playing experience itself is much the same, though it seems the game is even more forgiving in the timing of when you play notes than even GH2 was and hammer-ons and pull-offs are also very easy to do. For experienced players this will obviously make the game easier in some respects, but at the same time the note structure has been mixed up a bit and the later songs are pretty challenging on Hard and Expert.

While the multiplayer aspect adds a lot more playability to the game at the same time the core of the experience remains the songs and for this game there are even more original songs than before and the song list is pretty great.

Overall GH3 rocks the house in much the same way as the previous games, but with the addition of some new features it doesn't feel like more of the same. Multiplayer adds a new aspect that should give the game a lot more life overall between those times when you get your friends over to the house.

Here is the list of tracks by the original artists (or in the case of Talk Dirty to Me, original vocalist) used in the game. This doesn't include the bonus tracks by the less well known artists.

"Talk Dirty to Me" Poison (Vocals re-recorded by Bret Michaels)

"Bulls on Parade" Rage Against the Machine

"When You Were Young" The Killers

"Miss Murder" AFI

"Lay Down" Priestess

"Paint It, Black" The Rolling Stones

"Welcome to the Jungle" Guns N' Roses

"Cherub Rock" The Smashing Pumpkins

"The Metal" Tenacious D

"3's & 7's" Queens of the Stone Age

"Knights of Cydonia" Muse

"Cult of Personality" Living Colour (re-recorded)

So which to buy, Rock Band or "Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock"? The big money is on both, but which of the two is the best? That all depends on what you want out of YOUR kicka$z rock simulator. Both have flaws and can be excruciatingly difficult, both are insanely fun to play, both are great party games, both cost an arm and a leg and both ROCK THE MUTHA@#%*ING HOUSE! The wireless guitar controller for GH3 works wonderfully with RB, but there is no such love for GH3 if you buy the RB guitar. If you don't want to drum (singing can be done in a pinch with your xbox live headset), then buying the GH3 bundle is a no brainer as the gameplay, song quality, and presentation is far superior than RB's. Plus, after you're done thrashing it up with GH3 you can get the RB game for a mere $60 (or cheaper) and enjoy it's very customizable characters and super-eclectic song selection using the GH guitar. Also in GH3's favor is a new version of "Anarchy in the UK" recorded by the Sex Pistols just for this game. Slash, Tom Morello, and Brett Michaels also make appearances in-game which is sweet. Score one for the Legends of Rock.

However, the fun of playing drums in RB should not be underestimated. It's pricey, but if you've got the dough and a little bit of rhythm and aren't tone-deaf (like me) than RB is like 3 games in one: guitar/bass, karaoke, and drums. Plus there is an amazing and ever-growing selection of downloadable songs (priced about $2 each) from bands like The Police, Grateful Dead, The Clash, and Metallica. So for a few extra bucks you can increase the game's replayability even more. Not a big fan of the "nickel-and-diming", but to play "Complete Control" and "Synchronicity II", it's worth it. Plus, did anybody say "ultimate party game?" My friends and family aren't gamers so I don't get to indulge the multiplayer nearly as often as I'd like (though the wife does enjoy singing on occasion and this marks the first time she's enjoyed a videogame not named "Tetris") but I can assure you that the Band World Tour career mode is outstanding and much better than the lonelioness of the Solo Tour. GH3 also features downloadable songs, but they aren't particularly enticing to me even though the game itself features the most rockin' collection of songs humanly possible: thrash, hardcore punk, blues, avant-garde alternative rock, and much more. I've also gotten 4 songs ("Dream On" and 3 Dropkick Murphy jams) for free by keeping an eye on xbox live so hurray for Activision on that one.

Now the bad. It's annoying to have to beat every single song to progress on solo modein RB. I've been stuck on the insanely long and difficult "Green Grass and High Tides" by The Outlaws on drums and I don't really have time to practice a 10-minute song over and over. GH3 let's you skip a song on each difficulty level if you choose and is easily the more challenging game when it comes to the guitar. The notes come fast and hard even on normal difficulty and the final run of songs will make you head spin and fingers hurt if you're not one of those inhuman gamers who can do this stuff blindfolded. And if you are, I'd like to eat your brain and gain your powers like Sylar because I've got only slightly more talent for this than I do real guitar playing -which is significantly easier than playing expert difficulty on GH3. I play these games to relax, not to go all Pete Townshend on my gaming equipment. Normal difficulty on RB is absolute cake after playing GH3, and the timing on notes often isn't right either, but when you go into hard difficulty the game goes from slightly challenging to impossible for me about halfway through the solo career mode. At least GH3 ramps up the difficulty slowly. There is no such problem on Band World Tour mode, by the way. YOu can pretty much pick and choose what you want to do and what songs to play. RB's flaws and a very cool, over-the-top style make GH3 the king of guitar games. But, again, if you want to drum or sing RB is the only game in town. Unless you get American Idol , that is. And if you do, you suck. Majorly. And still can't drum.

The bottom line is this: if you love rock music, save up whatever you can and buy both. Even if you have to buy them piece-by-piece like I did, both games are awesome for rock music fans. If you're into the hard stuff like Slayer and Dead Kennedys and do most of your gaming singleplayer than go for GH3; the game's song selection adn challenge is unrivalled. If you prefer more mainstream alternative music like Radiohead and REM than RB is your ticket. While GH3's guitar battle mode is very cool, RB definitely gets the win on the multiplayer aspect. If you've got 3 friends or family members who are into it, there is no better way to enjoy some great music together than with RB. There is some song overlap as both games feature "Sabotage", "When You Were Young" and others which is annoying and there should never, ever, EVER be a rock game -much less twowith no Jimi, no AC/DC, and no Van Halen. It's just not right. But all is forgiven because these are two killer gaming franchises that will keep us busy (and broke!) for years to come. Rock on!

Best Deals for Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock Wireless Bundle - Xbox 360

I adore the Guitar Hero series. It is incredibly fun, can be played co-op, and exposes players to all sorts of great music. Guitar Hero III ups the ante with even more fantastic songs plus a new battle mode for fun head to head gameplay!

Once again you're a small time band starting off in your garage or make that, your back yard. As you play through songs on your guitar controller, your career begins to take off. You make videos, play larger arenas, and earn money. The money lets you buy yourself new outfits and guitars. As you battle special players, you unlock their characters like Slash from Guns 'N Roses.

In every Guitar Hero game there have been songs I've liked and other songs I haven't liked. That's going to be true pretty much no matter who you are. They try their very best to provide a wide range of music to suit all guitar tastes, and they do an excellent job at it. Some of the songs are SUPER in this set and got me up off the couch dancing around while I played along.

The new battle mode is a ton of fun. Before, you'd get a simple encore at the end of each set. This time you occasionally have to fight a newcomer for guitar supremacy. In battle mode you earn "attacks" that you can then lob at your opponent. These do things like break strings, make you play double notes, make your screen shake, and much more. It is super fun. Near the end of the game when you're down in "Hades", you have to battle the devil himself playing ... Devil went down to Georgia!

There are of course the extras to unlock by doing things like playing 100 notes in a row, the ability to play against friends head to head locally, plus the new ability to play against others online! Talk about a true challenge! It was always scary enough looking at XBox Live and seeing how amazingly high some of those scores were. Imagine trying to play those people live?

The graphics are great. Each location is fleshed out in fantastic detail, from the flickering flames of Hades to the glowing red lanterns of your back yard. The audience always seems a little robotic, but heck, how much do you want from a guitar game?

Many of the songs are now original band-sung songs including a Living Color song that the band re-recorded specifically for this game! There are still a collection of songs that are "in the style of" some are good, some are really not so good. The Stevie Ray Vaughn song stands out as the not-so-good reproduction. Still, what can you do. Why aren't those bands giving the Guitar Hero guys permission to use their real tracks? Don't they know how immensely popular this game is?

The wireless guitar controller and it's worked pretty flawlessly so far. We've noticed a tiny amount of 'misses' with the red button, but that may be us getting used to it, we'll have to see.

Highly, highly recommended. It was so much fun that my boyfriend, a guitar player, would occasionally try to play the "real notes" rather than the Guitar Hero game notes. It really is absorbing!

Make sure you get TWO guitars to go with it, so you can play with a friend!

Honest reviews on Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock Wireless Bundle - Xbox 360

What do you get when you take a series that is virtually flawless and endlessly addicting and combine it with a developer who is known for ruining a virtually flawless and endlessly addicting series? You get a recipe for disaster. Fortunately, Neversoft, the studio responsible for the rise and fall of the Tony Hawk's Pro Skater series, has decided to take that recipe and throw it out the window. Since acquiring the rights to the Guitar Hero name, Activision has seen to it that Neversoft be in charge of creating all future games in the franchise. And for a built-from-scratch first effort, they succeeded beyond my wildest expectations! Guitar Hero III not only continues the tradition of great music rhythm games, but it adds in some much needed features and game modes that really make it a must-own for any Xbox 360 owner!

First off, let's discuss the changes that Neversoft made to the game. The art direction in general takes a much more "hardcore" approach, as characters like Judy Nails go from being sweet little rocker chick to big-breasted, pierced alt rocker. Most of the other characters have undergone similar changes, most of which are for the worse. The original games had a very cartoony type of image to it, and Neversoft tries to recreate that with more edge, but they end up looking like they're trying too hard to make the game hardcore. Fortunately, this is a music game so graphics will ultimately take a back seat to the gameplay and music.

Gameplay-wise, Guitar Hero III picks up where II left off. New game modes have been introduced into the series, including Co-Op Career (a long-needed mode that features songs you can only unlock through it) and Battle Mode, which allows you to gain attacks (rather than star power) which you can then launch at your opponent to make them fail a song. The last person standing wins! The first time through this mode can be daunting, but after a while it quickly becomes a welcomed addition to the franchise! Also included this time around is full Xbox Live support for Face Off, Pro Face Off, Co-Op, and Battle Mode (unfortunately Co-Op career is not available for online play at this time). The system works great too, and in my dozens of matches online, I've only experienced brief lag once. There's something thrilling about going to battle with someone you've never met and throroughly embarassing them! This feature was well worth the wait, and will undoubtedly add hours upon hours of play to an already addicting game.

Of course, the real strength of a music rhythm game will always rest in its soundtrack. Fortunately for us, Guitar Hero III rocks one of the most comprehensive and diverse soundtracks ever put in a video game. Neversoft has finally figured out what Harmonix never could; you can have difficult songs on the game that aren't metal (i.e. Muse's "Knights of Cydonia" or QotSA's "3s and 7s")! Add in the fact that a large portion of these songs are master recordings, and the game's music just sky-rockets to a whole new level! And while Gutar Hero III's soundtrack is clearly the best in the series, it is not without it's missteps either. For example, "Sabotage" by the Beastie Boys is a great song, but it really doesn't belong here as there's very little guitaring going on in the song. Overall though, the diverse collection of songs in the game almost assures it's acceptance by those who may have been hesitant in the past, as there's definitely something for everyone!

My complaints with the game are few. My largest gripe is the new Red Octane wireless controller which is very pretty, but has given myself and other gamers some problems. For me specifically, some of the fret buttons will occasionally stop working during a song and you'll need to stop playing, disconnect the controller, and reconnect it for it to work again. This is a huge drawback, but hopefully they can get the bugs worked out in later models. Another small complaint is the lack of a matchmaking system for online play. I play on expert, but I'm more of a low-mid range expert who doesn't stand a chance versus someone who's been playing the game for a few years now. In the end, however, these complaints really overshadow what is a phenomenal game and a great first effort for Neversoft. I highly recommend it to anyone who may be on the fence about it. $99 for a video game is steep, but the hours and hours of enjoyment you'll undoubtedly get out of Guitar Hero III are well worth the price. Buy it now!

I first pre-ordered this game a few weeks back and I was surprised to have gotten it yesterday when I thought it didnt get realesed until the 28th. I'm about halfway through the campaign on expert which is pretty fun. The battles against Slash are pretty tough and hard to get the hang of but once your used to it it makes sense. I would definitly recommend this game, especially becasue the wireless guitar is awwwwwsome. The track list is pretty good and I can't wait to find out what other songs are on it. The price was a little steep but its definitly worth it. This game is sick!!
