Just as a little history lesson JetMoto is made by the same people who made the first two Twisted Metal games and Twisted Metal Black. If that is not reason enough to get this game I will give you some more. For anti-gravity racing fans out there buying JetMoto is an easy decision to make, but for all you other gamers JetMoto is a very challenging game to play, it will definitely test you to your limits. Like Wipout, JetMoto is a futuristic racing game but with a twist. The twist is, what makes it different from Wipeout, it is a mix between anti-gravity racing and MotoCross. The graphics, soundtrack, animations, and soundeffects pull you into the game and never let go.

The graphics in this game are very good for the PS1. The texture maps, water splashes, sand effects, and the waves add to the experience. If you have a PS2 you can smooth the graphics out and make them look even better.

Soundtrack: Now this soundtrack is one of the best I have ever heard, right up there with Wipeout's. The music is exciting and beautifully reflects the environments of each course.

Animations: As you race through each track taking tight turns, you can feel the weight of the craft as your rider pulls on it to just make that turn. And when you get some big air it feels like the rider is actually flying through the air.

Soundeffects: The soundeffects are equally superb. The sound of the jetmoto makes you believe that your really racing on a anti-gravity bike. The water slashes, solid landing sound, turbo boosts are all done extremly well.

Now for the one thing I did not mention above, the controls. If you have played Wipout then you are ready to play JetMoto. If you have never played Wipeout JetMoto's controls are overall good, become difficult in the tight courses.

I'll give you some advise, MASTER THE GRAPPLING HOOK! Some of the tracks are frustratingly hard and if it becomes a little too much to bare go to this web site for cheat codes.() Despite its few short comings JetMoto is one of the best anti-gravity racing games I have ever played and definetely worth the your money.

This game created a whole new race style. With the grapple system, it really was unique. The rider profiles and teams really made it cool. Brings back so many memories.

Although it hasn't aged well Jet moto still is fun and difficult. It's by the same people who made the twisted metal series so it shares some music. One of the complaints is the graphics, they are pretty bad, the difficulty is also insane on some tracks where the AI is always faster then you. The game also runs slow compared 2 and 3. It's a good game that really hasn't stayed the test of time, but for a nostalgia trip, it's worth the little cash.

Honest reviews on Jet Moto

Jet Moto, Sony's answer to Wave Race 64, was an instant hit for Singletrac back in 1996. Singletrac, best known for its' Twisted Metal games, set out to make a futuristic racer in the vein of both Wave Race 64 and Wipeout and succeeded. Players control riders on hoverbikes which hover close to the ground and can be driven over land and water. The game utilizes a system called the Magnetic Grapple in which pressing an assigned button creates a magnetic attraction between the player's bike and red energy poles that are placed throughout the courses. This enables the rider to swing around tight turns with his bike without slowing down. If done properly, it helps players cross gaps to large to get over as well as propelling riders out of turns alot faster than when going in. Chracters are split in teams with bikes adorned with logos of sponsors just like in real-life racing. 20 Characters and 3 tracks are available at the beginning, with seven more tracks unlockable by winning tournaments.

Jet Moto is best known by fans for its' suicide courses. Tracks have a point A and point B. Racers begin at point A racing to point B and back again, all the while facing other oncoming racers coming towards them. It's also known for its' somewhat outrageous track structure mixed in with traditional courses.

I fondly remember setting up all night on the weekends with friends playing this game, just to see who had bragging rights when the night was over. Most of the time they'd win but, every once in awhile, I would win. I'll admit, it took alot to beat this game. I love this game and still play it to this day.

Plugs in via the USB port just like any other, but instead it plugs into the battery itself so you can take out the battery from the controller and charge just the battery. I like it and found it to be a better replacement than an OEM.

These control pads have super short shelve lives. They provide good responsiveness for about a month and go to shit. The D-pad needs more tinkering, because there is crap sensitivity in the diagonals of the D-pad and all of the 8 buttons after a few weeks of play. Do not buy this product. Its not worth 20$. If you can find this product for 10-15$, then I would say you made a decent investment. Since, this controller can be a decent stepping stone to better play, but not for the long term. Madcatz needs to quit putting out the same product with a new face and calling it new, because this controller is the same crap as the originals that also had short shelve lives. Meanwhile, the new variants end up costing 30-50$ for something that performs like a 5$ prostitute. Do yourself a favor and begin getting used to Arcade sticks, because that is simply the most reliable controller platform for fighting games. Nobody knows how to make good D-pad controllers anymore.

Smaller then the older madcatz series. This product feels a little sticky as compared to older series. L&R triggers could use more play.[

First, let me just get this off my chest: I will never understand why people complain about something after they buy when they clearly know that one of the features is missing. All of the negative reviews complain that there is no online play and they hate the whole game for it. First of all, it clearly states that this is a single player only and doesn't include online play. Unfortunately some folks don't bother to read what they buy. That's like buying rotten tomatoes at the supermarket that are labeled "rotten" and then come home and start complaining that their tomatoes are rotten and how bad their supermarket is. Now as for MY review below...Yes, I did put "No Online Play" as a negative aspect, but I didn't penalize the game's rating because I knew what I was buying months before this title came out.

The Good:

*The classic game you love without the clean-up part afterwards.

*Several boards to unlock and choose from, including world board, ice board and even cheese board.

*Multiplayer games can be played with a single controller, if only one controller is available(pass controller around.)

The Bad:

*Online Play would've been nice.

*Richest Mode can be dubious with questionable mini-games.

*Mr Moneybags will just not shut up at times and you can't fast-forward what he says.

The Bottom Line:

A great alternative to your old cardboard game. Very colorful graphics that include animated Mr. Moneybags that hosts the games for you. My biggest gripe is the Richest Mode. For those that are not familiar with it, the game is played with 4 players(at least 1 human and 3 computers.) Each round four dice are rolled. The minigame that follows will determine who gets to choose one die first. For example, if a player chooses a 5, 5 of their tokens will land on random board spots. If property is unowned, it goes into their portfolio. If it is owned, they pay a rent of 1 property or more. There is no money involved in the Richest Mode. That is all good, but the concept that completely kills it for me is that if somebody lands on a community chest(regardless if its the last place or the first place,) the poorest player will usually get to steal the richest player's 3 properties! This means that you might as well flip a coin to figure out the winner as this becomes very very random and anyone can win at any time, mostly based on luck. Mini-games will also make you scratch your head. One particular one is a stocking-stuffer game, where everyone fills their stocking with items. Sometimes, one item is enough, but sometimes you need 5 to make it full, which makes no sense. However, because Richest Edition is simply an "extra" to the classic edition, I will not downgrade the rating because you do not have to play it. The classic edition plays perfect with no quirks. This title is a great buy for those who play monopoly often. If you don't play it often, it will simply collect dust.

This release is quite the anomaly. First off, I didn't even know it was out a friend of mine who works at Electronic Arts told me that it had come out. If it wasn't for that, I wouldn't have known. Now that's not a fault of the game mind you, but for such a classic board game, you'd think it would be a little more promoted. That issue aside..

I was quite looking forward to playing it. I'm a Monopoly fan, and my wife is not, so I never get to play anymore. So I was looking forward to getting in some Monopoly. I sat down, fired it up, and played a few single player games. The game does a very good job at replicating the board game onscreen. There have been some Monopoly games on the PC in the past, and this one is quite good. The graphics look quite spectacular on my 46" HDTV. But the game play is right. So much so that there's a whole gaggle of custom rules you can put into play. Things such as "Land on Go, get double pay", "All tax goes into pile which is won by landing on Free Parking", Number of houses/hotels, mortgage rate, etc. The game play is pretty darned customizable, so that's a plus. There is a wide range of board themes. There's the obvious standard one, a future theme, a World Board, a Jungle Board, even food themes like chocolate and cheese. Each of these themes have appropriately named properties too (things like "Polar Bear Mountain" and "Blizzard Plains" for an ice themed board). There is a very strong variety of play here without changing the basic game at all. And that is just in standard mode.

There is another mode called "Richest" Edition, where you play with some new rules. One of which is no money. Richest uses no money at all when you owe someone money, you have to give or take properties. When I first played it, I thought it was going to stink the formula is changed around a lot, but I have to say, I really ended up enjoying it. The lack of money gave the game a rather different, and very enjoyable feel to me. There are also mini games in between rounds in the "Richest" mode to play which are loosely based on certain aspects of Monopoly. The mini games are kind of hit or miss depending on which one you get (there's about a dozen different ones, including one bizarre one where you have to take X-Rays of the Pennybags character). But I do have to say I really took to the Richest Edition variant of game play. It's notably shorter than regular games of Monopoly, which is one thing to take into account.

So I was really quite enjoying this game, which brings me to the strongest negative to this title. THERE IS NO SORT OF MULTIPLAYER OVER XBOX LIVE! THIS IS A FAILURE OF EPIC PROPORTIONS! How a game like Monopoly could be created without any sort of online play in 2008 is beyond me. It's not like this a Gears of War game or a Halo 3 where you have to push massive amounts of bits up and down an Internet connection. It's Monopoly. I cannot fathom why there was no Xbox Live play here it just boggles my mind that I cannot do this. This is such a major drawback, I can see it preventing a lot of people from buying the game. Yeah, there's multiplayer locally. You can play up to four people here on the same console. But to be honest, if I have four people in my living room, I'm going to play the real board game version. I might have been inclined to give this game five stars in my review, but the lack of Xbox Live play takes it down to three. It makes me think this omission is why the game ha a list price of $39 instead of the $59 most Xbox 360 games have.

Still, my feelings on lack of Xbox LIVE play aside, this is a very good representation of Monopoly. If you are big time into Monopoly, and always wanted to play but had nobody to do it with, this can work for you. It is a very good game of Monopoly, and the new modes bring a fresh flavor to a game that most of us know pretty darned well.

I wrote this review on the Xbox 360 version. It is also out on the PlayStation 2, PlayStation 3, as well as the Wii. I do not know the multiplayer situation on those, but if they can play online, and the 360 version cannot, I'll be even more irritated at that.

I bought this at Best Buy for $. Very enjoyable game. The narration can be annoying and the controls have some faults but I really like the game. I like the different boards you can unlock and the shortened Richest version. This game is eating up a lot of my free time!

A really poorly designed game with major issues:

1. No way to opt out of the constant comments from the "moderator".

2. Must play with 4 players (Total of human and computer players.)

3. Computer will make idiotic deals with other computer players to establish monopolies early in the game.

4. Interface designed poorly. Defaults to "Manage properties" instead of "next turn", requiring extra work. You end up pressing wrong button consistently, which takes forever to load.

5. Increasing difficulty of computer players results in same idiotic gameplay and cheating, with the main difference being that they'll land on your properties less. (Cheating dice.)

Don't waste your money. You'll be disappointed.

Crash of the Titans - Xbox 360 Reviews

Crash of the Titans - Xbox 360

A real letdown in most areas. My whole household was thrilled and counting down to this game. We got it on day one, rather than waiting to hear what others thought. Well, remember the fun boxes and the TNT and the figuring out puzzles? There is very little of that in this game. If you loved the old area where Crash takes over that yellow robot suit, you may like this game. In Crash Titans, you highjack (or jack) other huge robot-like creatures, and smash other similar robot-like creatures. That is about it, total, for the whole game. It should have been called Crash Battle Bots. You highjack a bot, smash and battle other robots.

Remember the fun of finding boxes, figuring out how to cross gates taht open and close, hanging from suspended ceilings and spinning just in time to fend off scorpions, all the lighthearted fun colors and scenery? There is about, being very generous, 5% of that in this game. It's great for the first few minutes, then very dark and just battling. There are a few 'surfing' scenes here and there that are similar to the old games, but this is way more like Spyro even in those areas.

My kids played on Normal level. I suggest playing at the most difficult level for SURE if you want to get any fun out of this game. Unless you are totally new to not only Crash Bandicoot but also if you are totally new to games. Then normal is fine. Otherwise, choose the difficult level.

My kids got through the entire game in 3 days. That really sums up this game. $50 for a three day game. Usually, we play Crash as a family, each taking a turn for each level. We spend weeks, honestly even months, sharing the game. I did level one, waited for the kids to get bast the dark battle areas, and never played again. That's just all there is.

Total bummer. I really want my money back. :( Would be fun to battle other family members or friends in the two player mode though. The two person is a little clumsy, but at least it's more fun that way. Not worth $50. Wait til it comes out at $20. At the most.

I have to admit I wasn't a big video game fan before I tried this game. But my 8 year old son and I have been having a ball with Crash and his friends. The game provides a lot of clean fun and excitement and is fast paced enough to keep my son's attention! Yet on the easy level, easy enough that he does not get frustrated. A great game to start with Crash of the Titans has already enthralled the whole family. Too bad you can't play with more than two players...but aside from that, it rocks!

Among so many violent games, this game presents great entertainment for the whole family. It is not so easy to play, for absolutely new gamers, like my wife :-), but it is fun to spend a few hours in front of the game. Some characteristics of the series which I considered a huge problem (like rare saves) have been fixed, the camera works fine, and it presents difficulty without frustration. The graphics are pretty nice too.

I highly recommend it if you want to play a game that has little or no violence, since we don't have Mario on the xbox360, this is the closest it gets.

I'll admit that I was a bit wary before I purchased MLB 2K8 after witnessing a slew of Chicken Littles running around internet message boards, crying about frame rate and other issues, and watching a herd of self-proclaimed ex-fans of 2K Sports jumping ship to the PS3 and MLB: The Show. Nevertheless, as an avid follower of Major League Baseball and 360-owner I knew I would have to give the game a shot, and on a hunch that many of those shouting, "the sky is falling" were overreacting and/or trolls trying to start trouble, I bought the newest offering from 2K Sports and stuck it in my Xbox. After a bit of playing around I was able to confirm my suspicions. Don't listen to sheep--MLB 2K8 is a solid baseball experience, boasting several innovative gameplay features that outweigh the flaws.

2K8 introduces Precision Control Pitching, a system of pitching that allows players to imitate the movement of each pitch using the right control stick. Pitching is a three-step process: first, the player must choose a pitch by pointing the right control stick in one of five directions; second, the player slides the right control stick around in its axis for a breaking pitch or jolts the right control stick upwards or downwards for a fastball or change-up, respectively; third, the player releases the right control stick at the correct time to throw the pitch. This complicated procedure takes some getting used to and may turn off the more casual gamer, so thankfully 2K8 has included the option to use 2K7's more classic pitching technique. But those who are patient enough to figure out Precision Control will be rewarded with an authentic gaming experience that is also a lot of fun. When your in-game pitcher hangs a meat ball over the plate that is smashed against the centerfield wall, you'll know you legitimately screwed up the procedure instead of feeling as if you got jipped by crappy gameplay mechanics. On the other hand, when your pitcher drops a filthy 12-6 curve that retires the side, you'll have earned it.

Hitting has gone through some refurbishing in 2K8, resulting in the new and improved Swing Stick 2.0. Now, instead of pulling back on the right control stick and releasing to initiate a contact swing, and pushing the right control stick upward to initiate a power swing, the latter method is used for a contact swing; in fact, the power swing has been removed completely in order to reduce the amount of home runs from last year (in 2K7, big flies were more common than singles). Just like the pitching, the Swing Stick 2.0 requires some adjustment, so don't be surprised if you hit a lot of ground ball outs in your first game--timing is key. But after you get the timing down you should be pretty happy with the hitting in 2K8. It still has its issues, such as it being very difficult to discern whether an oncoming pitch is going to be a ball or a strike, but the movement of the right control stick in correlation with the gameplay is very accurate. And players who have trouble with the Swing Stick 2.0 can turn on the regular Swing Stick from 2K7 or "classic batting" (simply press `A' to swing) via the option menu.

The right control stick is also incorporated in fielding (surprise, surprise), as the player must hold the stick in the cardinal direction of a base (right for 1st base, up for 2nd base, etc.) and release to initiate the throw. But this too requires timing, as after the control stick is moved toward the direction of the base, a meter pops up by the fielder with the ball and quickly fills up. The meter will go from red to yellow to red again, and the most accurate throw will come in the yellow area. This makes fielding more fun and rewarding than simple button-mashing.

In terms of graphics, the character models are passable, although the faces for most players are badly-done and don't seem to fit with the rest of the body. Even if the faces are a bit off, the movements and quirks that each player brings to the plate or to the mound are captured brilliantly, helping the on-field action look and feel like a real game. 2K Sports worked hard to represent each stadium to great detail, and the aerial and inside views of the venues before the game are a nice touch.

Perhaps the biggest complaint by 2K8 critics is its choppy frame rate, which seems to affect only those playing on HD TV's. The game will often freeze momentarily and cause difficulties in gameplay. There are plans to release a patch in the near future that will fix this issue, and there are other unofficial methods of handling the problem in the mean time.

Online play is a disappointment for those with slow connections because lag throws off the timing and screws up the gameplay mechanics, so hopefully a patch will be released soon to fix that. The card system is a fun add-on for those looking for more than franchise mode, and it's always exciting to see which cards you earned after playing a game. I haven't toyed with the Player Beats or Stadium Beats yet, but as far as I know it allows the user to give walk-up songs to his in-game players, something that I've always wanted from a baseball game. The song choice for 2K8's menus is a bit odd; a lot of indie rock mixed with some more alternative stuff, but after an hour or two you'll be used to it.

All in all, 2K Sports did an excellent job with its third-party exclusivity this year, even if many critics will disagree. I have yet to play MLB 08: The Show, so I cannot say whether 2K8 is the better baseball game, but I can assure you that if you have the patience to figure out the new pitching, hitting and fielding mechanics and can look past the frame rate issues, you will be rewarded with a genuine baseball experience.

I have many complaints with this game.

First of all, it is pretty glitch heavy. It takes forever to load on several screens, and with no status bar that leaves the user wondering if the game has simply frozen.

Second of all, the learning curve is, as others have said, pretty damn steep. Pitching is insanely difficult. The slightest twitch in your thumb will frequently cause a wild pitch or the batter to slug a home run.

Third of all, the cut scenes during the game take way too long to load and are jerky. There is no smooth action to the gameplay. Even when I modified the settings to eliminate the cutscenes, the movement was still hesitant and jerky. During the fifth inning of one of my games during a batter change for the opposing team, the "End of Game" screen came up and announced that the game was over! I thought for a second, "Okay, cool. I'm winning," but when I got to the franchise screen it did not count that ball game as having been played.

Please rent before you buy. I'm glad I did. I almost shelled out $60 for this game until I remembered that I had a free rental coupon. There are far too many glitches in this game for me to find it entertaining.

Best Deals for Major League Baseball 2K8 - Xbox 360

Fun to play when the game does not freeze up. Too many glitches in Franchise mode to count. Cut scenes are horrible. IMPOSSIBLE TO DRAW A WALK even with the sliders turned completely to the left for AI pitching accuracy. I was very dissapointed considereing this is the 360 and we are now in the year 2008. MVP Baseball 2005 is far supperior to this. This is what happens when there is a monopoly. The game makers get lazy. One other thing, just like 2k07 the farther you get in franchise years the more bugs...

Honest reviews on Major League Baseball 2K8 - Xbox 360

I've been really, really trying to look past the bugs in this game, but I've finally hit my breaking point. This game is so full of bugs that it's unplayable. It literally freezes about 15% of the time for me. And no, it is not my Xbox. As a software developer, I understand that you cannot fix every bug or else you'd never ship. But to deliver a product with massive defects is inexcusable. Add in the fact that the opposing pitchers never throw balls and there is no contact swing, that seals the deal. 2K Sports -epic fail. I will not be buying MLB 2k9 no matter what.

I have always hated this series and assumed I would hate this version as well. I downloaded the demo and did not like it at first. I then played quite a bit of the demo and began seeing the amazing features that are hidden in this game until you get the controls down. After buying the game and playing it for a week I can now say it is the best baseball game I have ever played. Like Fight Night did for boxing, this game has done for baseball. You will never again want to press a button to throw the ball to a base or pitch. Those who gave it a negative review simply have not given the game enough time. There is no way someone could pan this game if they truly understood the controls.

It was a good controller works fine. Arrived on time as promised, in condition as promised. The only disappointment that I had was I bought it for someone who enjoys playing BF3 as well. And he cannot use all the codes because they blocked them from the game and then there is a risk of getting kicked from the game because of it. A little bummed but otherwise he likes it and uses it all the time.

EA Sports pleased a lot of college football fans by deciding to release NCAA 2003 on all 3 platforms this year. Gamers who played both NCAA 2002 and Madden 2002 may remember that although both games use the same engine, NCAA's gameplay was more attuned to the offense-oriented play found in college football while Madden seemed faster and played more defensively. While both games were the best playing football games to date, there were still issues with "money" plays and unrealistic running games (in Madden, running to the outside was much easier than running inside which is not what you'd expect because of the speed of the pursuit defenders in the NFL). You could fiddle around with the AI sliders to tune the gameplay but it was often a laborious process and often frustrating because everyone played with different sliders.

Although NCAA 2003's gameplay is eerily familiar, I decided to purchase it because of it plays so beautifully out of the box. One thing that I noticed right away is the ability to break long runs up the middle (I play on All-American mode). This was sorely missing in the previous EA Football titles. Running plays outside are no longer sure 10 yard gains. The passing defense AI has been much improved to increase the number of interceptions (the defender will catch a majority of balls that come right to him whereas last year's version made every secondary defender look like Rickey Dudley).

As far as the features go, NCAA is basically building on what they know works. The Dynasty mode is terrific as you can take over a team, compete in BCS rankings and even recruit players during offseason. There is also the new Mascot game and the Rivarly game. I'm not big on features but the gameplay definitely hooks you in and the features make you come back for more.

I haven't played Madden 2003 yet but by all accounts, it should be a great game. If you're planning to get just one football game this year, you should wait until Madden comes out and see which is better. Madden features create a play option and special practice modes. For me, I chose NCAA 2003 because of the varied gameplay (running option plays and all the different schools with different styles of play). This is the most complete football game to date (at least until Madden 2003 comes out).

I purchased an XBox when they first came out and was disappointed when NCAA 2002 never made it to the shelves for the system. So I had to settle with Madden 2002. While I'm not a pro football fan, I still enjoyed Madden a lot. When I found out that NCAA 2003 was going to use a revamped Madden 2002 engine, I felt a little hesitant in buying it, but did so anyways. Boy am I glad I bought this game. There are a lot of differences from Madden 2002 that make this game the best football game I have ever played, period. First of all, it's a college game. Rivalry modes, mascots, fight songs, cheerleaders, trophies...EA Sports definitely nailed the school spirit aspect of college football. The added option play as well as the 5-2 and 4-4 defenses are a much needed and desired college bonus. The AI is real smart in this game. This is a true simulation so don't expect to score a lot of points (at least in the harder difficulty levels). Expect pass coverage to be well pulled off and realistic (unlike Madden's Spider-sense cornerbacks). Expect the rushing game to be a lot easier than previous games as well. In fact, it's a little too easy, probably my only complaint about the game (well...I have one other, being an Auburn student/fan and there not being any fight song, but that's another story...). Running up the middle can get you on average a good 5-6 yards each time, even when the defense calls a jam-middle or under-smoke defense. The commentary is awesome and not near as repetitive as NCAA 2002 or the unbearable Summerall/Madden duo in Madden 2002. If anything, the three-man commentary team is one of the game's greatest aspects. And the graphics are what you would expect from XBox and EASports. Realistic grass stains, smooth lighting, realistic cheerleader and player motions, and so on. Overall this game has few bad qualities and should be in every gamer's library.

Honest reviews on NCAA Football 2003

This is teh best college football game. The franchise is great. You can make you team go from unranked to #1. The trophy room is cool. You display all trophies from bowl games to hiesman in there. There is a mascot game where you can play as a team of mascots. After a season you have to recruit players. Like real life the best players want to go to the best school. If you are a great team you will get all the good high school players. Anothe great thing is that you can save the draft class leaving then if you have madden(which is a good game) when you finish a season in teh draft you can draft the players from NCAA Football. I reccommend You get this game.

I was not sure I was going to get this title. The Madden NFL game comes out in a few weeks, and the gameplay is virtually the same. But as usual, once I saw it on the shelves, I had to have it.

To start with, the reason this is a must have is not because of the graphics, the game play, the improved AI, or anything like that. The reason that this is a must have, is based on one little word. DYNASTY! Not the TV show from the 80's, but the complete control over your own university's football program. You become the recruiter, and head coach rolled into one. It is a far cry from TECMOBOWL for the Nintendo.

Lets begin with the graphics. They are magnificent. Similar to the PS2, but much brighter and cleaner. The stadiums, fans, and faces of the players are phenomenal.

Second, the game play. Improved defenses, and more realistic movements make it a top notch game, and also make the replay factor more enjoyable.

Third, the creation and dynasty process. This is the real deal. Not only can you do seasons and so many other neat things like Mascot games, you can completely create everything. Pick your College, design the uniforms and the stadium, and because of the dynasty mode we touched on earlier, completely be in control of your roster. Or so you atleast thought. The recruiting process is a lot of fun, but can be tough. Let me first let you in on some clues. Do Not Just go after top 100 players. You will end up with all walk ons. Do go after the players that want to play at your school. This will add depth to your team. Do Not waste recruits. Try and get as many as possible. 3 star players can be as good as 4-5 star players in 1 year. read the comments the coaches are making about each guy during the recruiting weeks. See if the kid has potential by what they are saying. And Lastly, DO NOT send all the coaches out for each recruit. It is not necessary.

All in All, this is a great game for any football fan, and for the die hard NCAA gamer, it is a must have. I only gave it 4 stars instead of five, because I thought somethings could have been improved with the XBOXs capability. I thought players cutting when running should be a little more defined, and I thought they missed some of the conference changes. Like USF not being an independant anymore. But great game nonetheless!

This is a phenomenal product! Very high quality, easy to install and very good looking. The thumb sticks have awesome textured grip, the adjustable height makes customizing your feel very easy and they perform like Kontrol Freek extensions. Very comfortable over long gaming sessions. The ModSticks product is excellent. The only thing I didn't like were the dish shapes, they are a bit deep and without rubber coating. The build quality is excellent and the custom heights are awesome. My thumbs still did not slip off the sticks even though they are aluminum, but I personnaly prefer rubberized tops which can be achieved with a set of Grip-It covers.Grip-iT Analog Stick Covers

Honest reviews on Modsticks Pro Xbox 360 Controller Analog Sticks (Silver)

The idea of having adjustable thumb stick heights is good.

Raising the height allows a more presice aiming method as you need to travel further.

Pros:

Modsticks Pro are made of high quality precision aluminium

The shaft is about half the diametre of the original, giving you greater range of movement

Cons:

The sticks are too long, even when using no spacers

The thumb hats are like butter knives cutting into your thumbs

The surface is also slippery, even with the knurled and turned top.

Solution:

If the dome and thumbstick shafts were each 2mm shorter and a PS3 style

rubber thumb hat were atop giving grip, it would be fantastic.

I made these modifications and it now opperates smoothly.

Cheap Shadow Complex

Shadow Complex
Customer Ratings: 5 stars

Shadow Complex sets a new bar for quality in an XBLA game. It's a side scrolling action game in the style of retro classics like Metroid and Castlevania, where exploration, hidden rooms, and power-ups all play large rolls as you progress through the game. But while the game is presented in 2 dimensions, the visuals are all beautifully rendered in 3D using the same Unreal engine seen in games like Mass Effect and Gears of War. The end result is a near perfect blend of both the old and new, and a game that feels both familiar and fresh at the same time.

Shadow Complex takes about 5-10 hours to complete, depending on how thorough you're going to be exploring the game and searching for power-ups, and is purely a single player experience. While I might usually find that a bit on the short side for a retail game, for a $15 arcade game it's just about right. Shadow Complex is easily one of my top 5 games on XBLA. I would recommend this game to just about anyone.

Update: After spending a bit more time in this game, I thought I'd expand a bit on my initial review. A lot of people have called this a "Metroid-vania" game, but really it's just Metroid. The game borrows heavily from Super Metroid, and there are more than a few weapons and power-ups that have direct analogs in the SNES classic. I don't really consider that a bad thing though. As the saying goes, if you're going to steal, steal from the best. And while Shadow Complex may not really expand on the formula laid out in Super Metroid, it refines it and polishes it to near perfection. Simply put, if you liked Super Metroid, you'll love Shadow Complex.

A long while ago, in a time of inferior technology and rustic gameplay elements, the side-scroller reigned supreme. The genre has spawned some of the greatest games of all-time, but like all good things, it went away for a while. Being unable to cope with its absence, Chair crafted Shadow Complex a quirky, futuristic, side-scrolling shooter. To put it quite simply, it has resurrected the genre in the best way possible.

The long-running Castlevania series and the earlier Metroid titles are usually credited with being the best examples of side-scrolling ingenuity and Shadow Complex pays homage to these games in almost every way. The graph-paper maps, exorbitant amounts of upgrades, ridiculous varieties of platforming puzzles and weapons, it's all here. Orson Scott Card's "Empire" was also the basis for the story, giving it instantly more appeal. Speaking about story, the protagonist's name is Jason Bailey, a normal dude who's out frolicking with his latest pickup at the bar. Quickly, a seemingly harmless day of cave diving turns into a search and rescue operation from the clutches of a super-terrorist organization called the Restoration.

Okay, so the story isn't exactly the most detailed narrative on the planet, but this is an arcade game and that's one of the biggest shockers. The amount of shear depth is startling and the visuals Shadow Complex doles out are seriously better than some big-budget, full-priced games out there. It's Unreal Engine 3 at its finest. But the gameplay is really what makes the game shine. It's standard side-scrolling fair with a twist that can only be described as 2.5D. That means enemies can be patrolling in the backgrounds and crates could be just off to the side of where you are walking. You'd think it would make shooting a little tricky but since the game's aiming works a lot like the shooting in Geometry Wars, you don't have much of a problem hitting where you want.

My favorite aspect of the classic side-scrolling formula is being rewarded for exploration. Hell, exploring is practically synonymous with the genre. Not only will you inevitably run into some beefy items and exciting upgrades while you light up all those squares on your map, you'll also receive more experience which is a reward in itself. As you level up you'll gain additional passive statistics which don't seem like they do much, but every tenth level you'll be thrown something immensely satisfying. For instance, if you reach the 20th level the game reveals the entire map for you. It may not help those who are only interested in clearing the game, but it's a godsend for the completionist out there. And who in their right mind would stop playing the game when you're that close to getting the shield-dispensing helmet that deflects all manner of projectiles? That's what I thought.

If you've ever played some of the classic side-scrollers, you'd know that towards the end of the show it can become quite a hassle to find certain things. Maybe there's a secret wall you have to hit to find an item, but it's uncharted on your map and there's no clues to its location. Chair has paid attention to old problems like this and labeled absolutely everything. Rooms with items are marked with a "?" and become a simple dot once you've taken it. Different floor sections are color-coded and there's even a blue line (which you can disable) that shows you where you need to go next. The only issue that's apparent is that sometimes there are multiple items in a single/save room and you won't be able to see them on the map. It'll definitely make completionists frown since it's pretty tough to remember those spots.

Shadow Complex isn't a long trip (my first clear took around five hours) but it's such a memorable and fun experience that you'll definitely go through it multiple times. If you choose to do so you'll also retain your level and certain goodies you may have found if you took the time to get everything. There's also a time-trial mode called the Proving Grounds. It's nothing spectacular but the puzzles are a nice, fun distraction and the awesome leaderboard integration makes it fun to compete with friends.

With Shadow Complex, Chair has given the jump-start the side-scroller genre needs to get back on track. It's deep, intuitive, and it makes certain full-priced games look like pure garbage. Even if you're not a classic side-scrolling junkie, there's something about pushing yourself to explore the depths of the underground facility, something about finding one more upgrade for your suit, getting one more headshot for the leaderboard count. And that's when you realize it's fun at its purest level.

If you grew up with Contra, then moved onto Super Metroid ..and then finally PS1 Castlevania: Symphony of the Night ...you will flat out love this game.

It takes the 2d platformer and revamps it to 2.5d, while maintaing all the game mechanics we loved about these games ...heavy map exploration, weapon upgrades, a leveling systems, puzzles, and on top of it all it looks gorgeous for a $15 game.

I dont review anything at all, but this game is so awesome i must.

Honest reviews on Shadow Complex

I knew nothing about Shadow Complex leading up to the game's release, but after hearing a few friends hype it up and watching a few videos I purchased it right after it's release. While the game is a bit short (if you really push it you can beat it in 2 hours or so) it is still a ton of fun, worth a purchase.

Tracing it's roots back to Metrodvania, Shadow Complex is a 2.5D side scrolling platformer/adventure game. Controls are a bit odd as one stick moves your character and the other aims your gun, but after playing for a little while it becomes second nature. You start off as a mere mortal and throughout the game acquire power-ups that turn you into an unstopable behemoth (to the point where at the end of the game if you've picked up all the items you are neigh invincible). You've got a few guns to acquire, different launchers (rockets, grenade, riot foam which is fantastically fun), health/armor upgrades and suit upgrades. Suit upgrades give you new skills and let you access new areas.

You will be hard pressed to find a negative review of the game from any of the major gaming publications/sites because, quite simply, there are very few areas to fault the game on. The story is decent, the gameplay is a ton of fun, the graphics and sound are excellent, and it has a very clearly defined gameplay style that it stays within and plays well in.

If you're a fan of the old 2D Metroid games or Castlevania: Symphony of the Night you are going to absolutely love this game from start to finish, through your multiple playthroughs. If you just like well made fun to play games you'll enjoy the game equally. Give Shadow Complex a whirl.

Doom 3 Resurrection of Evil - Xbox Review

Doom 3 RoE is a truly great game. It picks up where Doom 3 left off. In my opinion, this game is better than Doom 3 because the action is faster and there's less talking. You don't have to play through 3 boring levels to get to the real action like you did last time. All of the levels are brand new and more enjoyable this time around. That's right, the levels are more spaced out. Plus, there are several new weapons including the double-barrel shotgun. There's also weapon you get in the first level that you can use to control enemy fire and move stuff around. Kind of neat! There are several new enemies too. I like this game. The action is much more fast-paced. The gameplay is the same as Doom 3, but it's still an awesome game nonetheless. This game also includes PC versions of Ultimate Doom, Doom 2, and Doom 2 Master Levels.

If you enjoyed Doom 3, then you should enjoy this game. Both of the Doom 3 games are all about heaping on the tension; combining a creepy atmosphere with enemies that like to attack out of dark corners or from behind. It's definitely a different feel from FPS like, say, HALO, and maybe it's not for everyone. But I dug it.

That being said, I do have some complaints about Resurrection of Evil... first off, the game is substantially shorter then Doom 3-it seems that by the time you get the hang of the new weapons, the game is over. This would be no big deal if you were buying it as an expansion to the PC version, but the X Box item is a game unto itself. And it is actually more expensive then Doom 3! On top of this, the game didn't seem to be as polished as Doom 3: there are problems with sound synchronization, blocky visual artifacts and, on more then a few occasions, the frame rate starts choking. I had none of these problems with the first game.

As I said, I liked the game. But the combination of the flaws, the short game, and the price, made it less enjoyable then the first Doom 3.

Best Deals for Doom 3 Resurrection of Evil - Xbox

First off i would like to say that in my opinion resurection of evil is not better than the other doom3 but is a great add on to the already perfected doom3. This game doesn't lack much except for the fact that the stages are shorter. This i didnt like, if it was just expanded a couple stages more and made longer this game would be perfect. But i think this game is better weapons wise. You get most of your weapons in the first 3 stages, and not like in the other doom3 were you got a gun per stage. :P otherwise this is an exact replica of the other doom3.

But this is cool because you go back to previous stages in the other doom3(portal to hell, hell, teleporting bay, the stage were you fight the first dog demon thingy, and the very first stage of doom3) so its pretty well thought out and loads of fun

Well in this doom3 there are 2 new foes and 2 new weapons to choose from.

-well im not sure what the 2 new enemies are called but there called something.

-The two new weapons are a gravity gun and sarges double barrel shotgun.(which is my favorite weapon) I also think the shotgun is the most affective throughout the game until you get the rocket launcher and the plasma rifle.

But also in this doom 3 you get a pretty cool artafact that gives you skills of destroyed foes. It is like a soul steeler err something.

-well anyways you get 3 skills(but not right away)

1. is where you kill a big teleporting beast, this gives you the power to move at tremendious speeds, everything is slow motion except you!! very cool.

2. is were you kill another huge beast that has a diferent power, this gives you the power of berserker. berserker gives you the power to attack 3X as effective when you shoot an enemy, basically 1 hit kill with sarges double barrel.

3. the third boss when defeated gives you invunerability. this allows you to walk on any terain. which is useful in hell and fighting the final boss.

ALL THESE SKILL are used at once and you must activate the artifact to do so. You need to steel souls of dead marines and othe people to charge the artifact.

I would also encourage you to get the first doom3 before buying this game, because you wouldn't know whats going on and you wouldn't know the full story. errr bye them both at once and play doom3 first.

Honest reviews on Doom 3 Resurrection of Evil - Xbox

This is the expansion from Doom 3, so naturally it's not going to be the same length. Granted the price tag of thirty-five dollars for an expansion pack is extreme in itself. Honestly, it's ridiculous and should be longer than the average expansion. Unfortunately, after playing this, I don't think the story line should have been shorter. Maybe the production costs exceeded what the developers planned, or someone wants to cash in somewhere. Frankly, I think it was the right length for the story told rather than delving into tedium. But people do have merit in their complaint for such an outrageous price. I recommend waiting until you can get it used for a more reasonable price of twenty dollars (standard expansion price tag these days).

Anyway, on to the actual review. It looks like the developers tried to fix some of the things that people disliked in the first Doom 3 installment. For example the pistol has a flashlight on its end. A smarter move would have been to have a flashlight that attaches to your head, because that would actually make a lot more sense, ah well... at least you can shoot enemies while holding the light this time. The other thing that seems to have changed is that the game is a lot brighter for the most part. This was a huge improvement from the original Doom 3. There are really only two sections of the game where you are plunged into absolute darkness, so it doesn't feel nearly as daunting or annoying. On top of these changes they had two new weapons which were the double barreled shot gun and this other guy that affected gravity. Basically it's like the gravity gun from Half Life 2. Real original... I know. They also have a few more new enemies like the Hunters. I think they were the giant creatures that shot rockets at me at least. They were a lot more challenging than some of the other creatures in Doom 3, so these were a pretty good addition.

For the most part this game plays just like Doom 3 aside from the above mentioned changes, so to read about the rest of the game check out my review of Doom 3. The part of this game that was pretty lacking to me was the story line, which is why it got knocked down to three stars. At the end of Doom 3 you're left feeling that it is definitely left open for a sequel. However, the way they tied the two games together was pretty poor. After all the craziness in Doom 3, the researchers on the planet went right back to what they were doing before? And the part that confuses me after this game is that it sort of sounds like the threat of Hell coming into our dimension is closed forever... so does that mean they can't make another Doom? I don't know, the Doom story line was so misshapen that it was just hard to follow as you went along in the game... not to mention you're left wondering if you're the same marine from Doom 3? Nothing is mentioned about your character! I think one thing that also made the story feel a little less involving was the PDA's didn't have that many voice reports. I thought these were ingenious in the first game because it really felt you were affected by what's going on. Nothing says "get involved" like hearing real people's voices make reports. I thought it added a lot to the FPS atmosphere. There were a lot of PDA's to find throughout the game, but it didn't drive the story nearly as much as it did in Doom 3. So this lackluster play in a roughly six hour game really diminished the experience. Don't get me wrong, the environments were awesome, but the point of being there was really not clear.

If you liked Doom 3, then it is definitely worth getting the expansion pack. You don't get nearly as clear of a story line as in the first game, but you do get a conclusion to the game. Granted I had a hard time following the point of the story, but you find out what happened to your enemy that was around at the end of Doom 3. Anyway, they made some marginal improvements, but they could have done a lot better. Maybe I'm just spoiled because Half Life 2: Episode 1, had a superb story line with a cliffhanger ending that made me want more and Doom 3 just doesn't deliver that.

If you know me or at least have read some of my reviews, you know I'm a huge DOOM fanatic. For example, DOOM 3 is by far the best DOOM game ever. So i.d. software decided to make an expansion pack for DOOM 3. This was soon to be called: DOOM 3: Resurrection of Evil. Now was this a good idea or a bad idea. Some might recommend this game to be manufactured, but on the other hand, some might beg to differ. But of course, you are reading this to see my perspective of the game. So what do what I think... this was a pretty damn good game! But this doesn't even touch DOOM 3. Want to know why? Well, a lot of it wasn't done much to the game. I mean, it kind of looks the same. But even the graphics aren't as good. And besides, wasn't this game supposed to be an expansion or at least some what of a sequel to DOOM 3? This game is practically a stand-alone game. But after all of the flack I have given this game, I still think this is a great DOOM game and it does deserve 5 stars. But if you're going to get a DOOM game, just get DOOM 3. It's much better. Goodnight!!

Review of Skylanders Spyro's Adventure Pack: Dragon's Peak

Skylanders Spyro's Adventure Pack: Dragon's Peak
Customer Ratings: 5 stars
Buy Now
Fans of Spyro the Dragon, rejoiceSparx has returned! One thing I always joke about with Skylanders is that it's called "Skylanders: Spyro's Adventure", yet his name isn't spoken even once, and he isn't even in the center on the game's box art. The poor little guy gets his first major game in years, and you can hardly tell he's in it! While Dragons Peak might not remedy that, there are definitely some tips of the hat to old school Spyro fans with this pack. Dragon Peak brings back Spyro's great dragonfly, Sparx, and has a whole level where the focus is dragons. Complete with dragons turned to stone, anyone who has fond memories of playing through the first Spyro game will get a little nostalgic with this stage. Also included are the Winged Boots and one of the most visually striking Skylanders: Sunburn. It's about time we get a fire type that isn't human-ish or bulky.

When placed on the Portal, Dragons Peak becomes accessible to the player on the left side of the Ruins in plain sight. You won't have to go hunting around for this level like the Empire of Ice one. An evil dragon has taken over the dragon kingdom after the original king left his throne for a bit. Its up to you to face the dragon and set things right. For the most part, this stage is standard Skylanders fare and can be completed in under 15 minutes. There aren't any puzzles or challenging parts aside from new enemies that blow themselves up and deal huge damage to you if you're within their range. It's a straightforward level and finding everything (hats, treasure, Soul Gem) isn't very hard. You even get to leave the ground for a while with several flying areas. Unfortunately, it's not as cool as it soundsyou're stuck avoiding rocks and collecting gems while on the back of one of the dragons. Control is a little weird: move the left analog stick to move, but you'll always reset back to the center of the screen when you let go of the stick. It's a bummer that these parts are VERY short too. I would've loved for them to have made these more like the old flying stages in Spyro the Dragon just to take you back a little more. And just a little heads upthe boss fight is very, very underwhelming. That and the short flying stages are the reason I'm giving this Adventure Pack a lower score than the others.

But everything else here is great. Sparx is a handy little 'item' that attacks enemies (until his time runs out, like all items). It's nice to have something can interrupt enemy attacks in case you're trying to get away and regroup. The Winged Boots make your Skylander so fast that it becomes funny. Placing this item on the Portal speeds you up big time, giving you a chance to deal tons of damage while enemies are helpless, or make a fast escape. The timer on this item runs out faster than any other I've seen, so use it wisely. As for Sunburn, he's a cool dragon/phoenix creature that has some nice tools. His primary attack is flame breath, secondary is a kind of teleport and his third is a dash move very similar to Cynder's. The flame breath attack pushes enemies back a little bit, and his teleport is unique. When used, Sunburn deploys 4 flames around him (up, down, left and right). Move the left analog stick in any direction, and he'll go there instantly, arriving in a burst of flames that damage enemies. When fully upgraded, Sunburn becomes very powerful, though the recovery time on some his moves may leave him a little helpless in Battle Mode against the stronger Skylanders.

Now that the figures and Adventure Packs are becoming easier to find, there shouldn't be any worry about paying too much for these. The standard price for this one is a great deal, even if the level could've used a little more work on the flight portions. My daughter and I had fun playing through it (she thinks the evil dragon is really cool looking), and Sunburn has become her favorite Skylander, tied with Whirlwind.

Dragon's Peak introduces a new adventure where an evil dragon has usurped rule in this new area of Skylands; the former, venerable dragon wants your help in restoring order and peace. You traverse through the level with the help of a simple-minded red dragon between platforms you actually fly him around to avoid huge boulder obstacles and shoot fireballs to destroy sky mines that try to impede your progress. The platform levels themselves are just like the rest of Skylanders, although a little more challenging with rotating platforms and stationary dragon statues that intermittently burn extremely damaging flames in your wake.

The new fire element character, Sunburn, is fun to play and shoots flames as his primary ability. His secondary ability allows him to teleport which, once upgraded, can occur in 4 directions.

And to second the other reviewer's comments, please stop supporting these scalpers. Activision IS actually catching up and stores are becoming better stocked every day. I got mine at Toys 'R' Us for $24.99...don't pay a penny more. A lot of these opportunists are digging their own graves as other characters have become so plentiful that some "used" prices are beginning to drop below retail price. Keep it up and wait patiently...Activision is not going to miss an opportunity to make money, so don't waste it on others.

If one were to take a sampling of games I currently own one would find RPGs, FPSs, and RTSs: most of which marketed for adults and hard-core gamers. When my wife (also a gamer) asked me if I wanted to play the Skylanders game, at first, I thought: "Sure, I will give it a go, for her." Not really expecting to enjoy myself or play the game past the end-game (which I expected to arrive at in a matter of hours); I was amazed at the fun I had while playing this game and collecting all the figurines. I have now completed the game multiple times and have leveled almost every character I own to its maximum level, on top of now having almost the complete set of figurines (I am four away...). Love this game. Love the concept. Cannot wait until my kids are old enough to play so I can pass the baton to them and watch them enjoy themselves anew (and live vicariously through them :-)).

As a fan of zombie games, and a fan of co-operative games, I was pretty excited for the release of Dead Island to play with my friend. Then it actually came out, and all my expectations were shattered...

1. GAMEPLAY: The gameplay is horribly uninspired. You choose one of four characters (blade-centric, throwing-centric, melee-centric and gun-centric), and then proceed to kill zombies and complete missions for experience to level up. Each time you level up, you get a skill point to spend in the character's "unique" skill trees. Each character has 3 trees: Fury, which is basically the character's special move and spending points in this tree helps go towards enhancing the effects of Fury; Combat, which is the character's effectiveness with his or her specific background description (IE, Xian, the blade-character, has combat skills which revolve around landing more Critical Hits with knives and machetes, whereas Logan, the throwing-character, has combat skills which revolve around increasing damage with thrown weapons); and Survival, which is just a random assortment of skills, mostly shared between characters, that allow you to do things like pick locked chests or repair weapons for less money. I would like to point out that the only real "Skill" you have in the game is the Fury move that you can unlock with 1 point; all other so-called "Skills" are basically modifiers to how much damage the character does or how much money he/she has to spend.

Besides this, there are no real RPG-elements to the game. Zombies scale with your level the entire way through, as do weapons, and you'll gain health as you level up. Other than that, there are no attributes you have to manage, or even get to look at for that matter. As I said, it's basically a first person hack-and-slash with some RPG elements thrown in to the mix.

There are dozens of weapons in this game, from pipes to hammers to katanas and assault rifles. You'd think that such a wide variety would lend itself to several different play styles, but this is unfortunately not so. A majority of the weapons are objectively worse than others. Compare Diving Knives and Axes to a Machete, for instance. Diving Knives are EXTREMELY fast, which should make them perfect against scoring massive amounts of damage in a short amount of time. Except, their durability ratings are so low that they break after two kills, leaving them completely worthless until you can repair them again. Likewise, an Ax does MASSIVE amounts of damage in one hit, and has high durability, but the swing is so unbearably slow that you will have to rely more on kicking the zombies back if you want to even think about using it. So really, the only logical choice between the three is a Machete, which has a fair balance of durability, damage and speed.

Throughout the game you'll find weapon mods, which can add elemental damage (or just increase damage) of a weapon. You'll use items you scavenge in chests, luggage, etc, in order to modify these. This is actually a pretty cool feature of the game. Unfortnately, the repairing and upgrading aspect of weapons (done at the same work benches) was not so well-thought out. Instead of using any physical materials, you just spend money to repair the equipment. There's no point in paying money, since you're not paying a person, and most of the work benches are in abandoned areas anyway. This aspect of the game felt extremely rushed.

The combat itself is also very redundant. On a PC, with a mouse and keyboard, you're locked in to using the "Digital" control mode, which only allows you to left click to swing your weapon. If you have a gamepad, you can switch to "Analog", which adds more indepth combat to the mix; namely, controlling how and when your weapon swings exactly (it lets you prep your weapon for attack). The combat essentially always boils down to either Kicking zombies and stomping them when they are down (if they are in a group of 3 or less), or if they're in a group of 4 or more, engaging in Fury mode and wiping them all out in a matter of seconds. Or, kiting (strafing around them and attacking). There's not much variation to it. Firearms are weak against zombies, but are capable of taking down human enemies in one hit to the head... And because ammo is in limited quantities, it's basically a way for the game to control how you play throughout the game.

GRAPHICS: I don't have a lot to say about the graphics. They look OK (maybe an 8/10, not ultra-realistic but they won't make your eyes bleed). Perhaps the most detailed thing about this game, though, are the zombie models as they take damage. It's impressive to light a zombie on fire and watch the skin and muscle melt off, "Raiders of the Lost Ark"-style.

STORY/AMBIENCE: So far I haven't spoken too highly of the game, so you may wonder why I gave it a 2. As the title suggests, I played it with my friend, and it was fairly enjoyable to team up and share commentary, glitches we encountered, and just strategize together. That said, the rest of the world just feels utterly lifeless, be it with a friend or offline. This may seem like a cool thing in a zombie game, but it's not. Half of the characters you encounter have NO desire to save themselves, and seem more concerned about finding lost teddy bears or gulping down dozens of bottles of water instead of self-preservation. It feels highly unrealistic, and I felt like I was just going through the motions for the majority of the game. The characters stand there lifelessly and assign you the most tedious and mundane of tasks ("find my necklace from my bungalow!", for instance).

You'll travel from a resort beach to a city to a jungle and so on... And there is a slight amount of exploration to do, but you'll never really find anything unique. You're most likely to encounter random scavenge items everywhere, and possibly generic collectible items, but beyond that, the whole world feels generic. Any survivors you do find that need help are there only because they have a mission to offer right after you save them, and then they ungratefully repeat to you several times that they need this task done yesterday.

The story itself develops VERY late in the game; of 4 Acts, you don't really see any development until the end of the 3rd. There's been a zombie outbreak on the island, and one mysterious voice on the radio seems to have the answer on how to escape. So you concern yourself with the first several minutes (hours, days, weeks? The game does an awful job of telling you how much time has elapsed) of just trying to set up safehouses for people and then getting them apple juice to survive on.

Also, regardless of how many players there are, the game will always imply that all 4 possible Player Characters [PC] are on this adventure together! Of course, if you're playing by yourself or a friend, you won't see the other PC's at all the rest of the time, and so this seems completely silly and nonsensical.

SOUND: My last point of the day (and this review is draggin', sorry), is the sound quality. Weapons sound great against the zombie corpses, zombie sounds pretty nice (and some, like the Infected, can be especially terrifying). Also, as zombies burn or get electrocuted or throw up, they make pretty convincing noises.

The voice acting is fairly bland in its own right, but to the developers' credit, they made the characters sound how they should (Russians sound... fairly Slavic, the guy from New Orleans sounds like he's from the South, etc.). The problem here is that the voice acting lines repeat themselves quite a bit. If you walk into a room, for example, a character is likely to say something along the lines of, "OOooh I hope this is all over soon!" Take two steps outside their "voice trigger range" and they're gonna repeat it again. I was on an escort quest, and the character we were escorting repeated the same line a dozen times as we made progress through the mission.

SUMMARY: ALL IN ALL, Dead Island is a fairly bland game, with an illusion of exploration of (empty) territory and a choice of a vast multitude of (mostly useless) weapons, but I would say that a purchase could be justifiable if you're playing with a friend or two and enjoy zombies. Otherwise, stay as far away from this as possible.

If you're going to get Dead Island, you'll most certainly be satisfied. I am not at all a Zombie genre fan, I have always thought it was just a dull feeling playing those type of games. I was a bit worried about this at first, looking at it as another dull zombie title that would leave me un-satisfied, but boy was I completely wrong. First off the game on PC is just visually breath taking to look at, everything is rendered just perfectly. It is not only breathe taking visually, but the RPG elements, as well as the character involvement, Controls, Sound and even the storyline are just completely insane....This is definitely a zombie title done right.

You'll get that occasional "OH CRAP!, I didn't even know that zombie was there" moments, it gets you all pumped up but yet also makes you cautious of your surroundings in the game. It captures your attention, and keeps you interested through the whole thing. You must help people out by doing missions, gather health drinks and foods after an attack to keep you alive, you must find ways to manage and equip weapons, as well as upgrading your character to become stronger and more resistant... Yet you are limited, but you must do anything and everything in your power to bring down them zombies....It is just an all out fun fest. The game is pretty lengthy, so you will be getting your money's worth on this one, not only that...you can join up with friends, as well as join up with people that are nearby in the game levels.

I was able to get this for $39.99 on Amazon's Digital Download, and that alone just makes it a steal....You just can't go wrong by purchasing Dead Island, it is worth every penny...Trust me

Completed game last night. It was interesting both the story and the bugs. I did preorder through Steam and had the funky version on release day. I deleted all the saves and started fresh 3 days after release. Played as the male quarterback (name I forgot) thats has throwing as his "special skill". Therein lies the most frustrating bug some thrown objects disappear! Is it through the floor? Just vanishing? Not sure. I had just modded a high level military machete (purple) with the Ol'Smokey mod that shocks. I had it all of 2 minutes. First zombie I attacked with it (threw it) IT WAS GONE!

I will be playing again, started a new charachter last night the weapons girl. This time I plan to check evey nook and cranny on the island. I will also be shooting, not throwing my weapons!

Worth getting when it's $30 in my opinion.

Honest reviews on Dead Island

This is *THE* zombie-killing game to get. It's what Dead Rising should've been years ago, it's fun, brutal.. and smooth.

Performance/Graphics:

This game runs like a dream on a mid-range system, i5 750 + GTX 460 and it runs 60fps MAXED out @ 1920x1200, almost never hiccups (except in areas with thick particle steam). And not only does it run well, it looks nice too. It's a little like Just Cause 2 in terms of "bloominess," but it's fitting and overall the game looks beautiful.

Gameplay:

Lots of weapons, the character classes add replay value. Combat is smooth & the way you move feels real. Lots of quests, side-quests, large freeroam world.. what more should I say?

Overall, this game is one of the most solid zombie titles I've seen, I'd be inclined to call it a better game than Left 4 Dead 1/2 but that's probably just because I've played them so many times. The game had some launch problems on steam (corrupt saves if you played right away then updated), but I think that's all been hammered out now for smooth sailing.

I remember clearly being blown away by the trailer for this game. While I didn't expect the actual game to resemble a wholly separate, CGI-rendered short film, I was hopeful that the game itself would have the very strong emotional component of great personal loss and sacrifice. I was also quite excited to hear that the game play would rely on the player using whatever objects they could find to defend themselves and that the whole island would be a fully explorable environment.

As many found out, that was NOT the case. It was also not the worst thing to be discovered.

It's true that my anticipation and expectations were high. Whose wouldn't be after that amazing trailer? A very good friend of mine had bought me a copy via Steam and sent it to me as a gift about a week ago. He was also quite excited about the prospect of this game as we'd both enjoyed many hours of Left 4 Dead and Left 4 Dead 2. Granted, these are fairly different games within the same genre, but we love co-op online play.

When I first started the game up I already got a bad feeling. The graphics were just not very impressive and the presentation of the main character as seen through the player's POV was quite off-putting. Apparently, I'm at a beautiful, tropical resort acting like a drunken boor. Pardon me, game programmers, but I'm not an alcoholic, nor do I become a loud, sloppy idiot if I've had a drink or two. I'm four decades into this life and I learned a long time ago the dangers of overindulgence, and I especially know not to go grabbing at total strangers. This assumption on the part of the game programmers that the gamer audience that they're targeting would find this funny is quite unpleasant. It's also quite a sad commentary on any gamers who like it as well. "Hey! Are you a young, shallow narcissist who'd like to transform your frustration at a lack of interested sexual partners into a sadistic, blood-spattered zombie head-crushing bonanza?! "Dead Island" is your game!!"

Aside from this psychologically disturbing characterization of who would actually enjoy playing this game, let's get on to the actual game play. You have two objectives when you begin: pick up items from luggage and closets and eventually escape from the hotel in which you find yourself. Riffling through stuff looking for things is a meat-and-potatoes staple of gaming. That's all good, even though you won't get to use a lot of the stuff you find for quite awhile. Getting out of the hotel is fairly easy as well. However, the problems begin soon after, and IMHO, they are major ones.

You walk everywhere, but compared to every other game I've played the walking speed feels really slow, as if the hangover from the night before (in the opening cinematic) has permanently slowed the player down. It feels like you're trying to walk through a swimming pool filled with pancake syrup. The slow walk speed quickly makes it tedious to explore as you constantly feel like you should be moving faster. It also makes combat an often pyrrhic experience since you don't feel like you can dodge certain zombie attacks with the proper haste. Thugs, a particular type of infected, become a very tiresome exercise in dodge-and-hit, dodge-and-hit, rinse, repeat. That may be the appropriate strategy, but it gets repetitive REALLY fast. Running can only be activated while you are moving, and it cannot be permanently toggled. Furthermore, running drains your stamina bar VERY quickly, far more quickly than if I was actually running. I'm not a marathon man or even a regular jogger, but I know I can go further than about 100 yards before I'm totally out of breath and have to stop!

The graphics are fuzzy and simplistic. For a game that tries to represent a realistic tropical resort, it looks and feels almost like a high-res cartoon. There's very little sharpness to the way things are rendered, and the lack of realism undermines the feeling of immediacy, of actually being there in this beautiful place that's overnight been transformed into a hideous abattoir. The lack of color shading plays a big part in this, as there doesn't seem to be much variation in the way colors are presented. Objects in dark or light environments look pretty much the same. The lighting is also overwhelmingly uniform, so being inside and outside doesn't feel different, which makes the transition feel less realistic.

The voice acting is terrible. I'm an aspiring voice actor myself, and the vocal tracks in this game are so lazy I'd bet they were all done in one take. There are lots of NPC's to talk to, but none of them are interesting to listen to nor do they suggest any individual personality. Most of them just sit around, whining and moaning and asking you for help and you're supposed to volunteer despite the fact that you don't know any of them. Why should I care about your necklace?! Did you happen to bring a shotgun in your luggage? Now THAT'S something I might risk my neck for!

The game menus are very poorly designed. I've played a LOT of PC and console games over the years and I've never encountered an interface that was so clumsy and infuriating. In particular, selecting weapons from your inventory and placing them on your belt takes more steps than necessary and there's no click-and-drag action. I had to call my friend who bought me the game just to figure out how add a weapon from my inventory into one of the weapon slots! The game provides NO hints on how to do it.The problem of managing the weapons that you're carrying also totally confounded me. At one point during play, my weapon failed and even though I had not equipped it, I started drinking a bottle of booze I'd picked up. Furthermore, you can carry a TON of items on your person, but for the first few character levels you can only carry two weapons on your belt at any one time. Again, an inventory system that makes no sense whatsoever.

The default mouse settings is WAY too sensitive. One touch and your view almost does a 360! The problem continues in that even after you adjust the settings in-game, the mouse speed in the menu draaaaaaaags. I got irritated very quickly with having to repeatedly drag my mouse across my desk just to get from one side of the menu screen to the other. While the game has only been out for two months, it's inexcusable to me that something so endemic to easy navigation has not been fixed yet.

The targeting function is also very sloppy and inaccurate. The reticle does a LOT of sliding around, even when it turns red to indicate a successful hit. It seems like they wanted to the reticle to auto-aim for the player, but the problem is that it does it too much. If the player moves a tiny bit, the reticle continues to slide around so you never feel sure of your target. You have to be motionless to get a good bead, and the precious time it takes you to position your character for this gives the other zombies ample time to shamble up and take a bite out of you. This is where some people's interpretation of "challenging" becomes pure frustration for me.

Weapon durability makes no sense. Crowbars wear out after a dozen zombies?! Are you kidding me? Their skulls aren't made of titanium! How is it that these half-rotten corpses are so resistant to damage from objects that are FAR more dense and durable than human flesh and bone? While I understand the appeal of a real world application of weapon degradation, the ones you encounter in this game wear out very quickly. I find this to be extraordinarily unrealistic, and it defeats the whole idea of applying such a design principle in the first place. Furthermore, why is every weapon you find in the beginning already half broken? Every baseball bat I've ever encountered in my life would be able to crack more than a half dozen zombie skulls. I know that if my toolbox contained a crowbar, it would very likely be the only one I ever had for the rest of my life, regardless of how often I used it. Having to constantly worry about whether your POS weapon is going to give out on you while dealing with a crowd of zombies doesn't make the game more fun, it just makes it more stressful. Stress does not entertain me.

When you die, for some inexplicable reason you lose some of your money. These zombies aren't often able to tell when a table is blocking their progress towards my tasty flesh, so why would they give a damn about robbing my corpse? It's a stupid, useless penalty that only forces you to spend more time rifling through luggage rather than exploring.

No tutorial. Granted, there aren't too many differences in some of the core functions of this game, however they are not intuitive. There are a few messages that pop up in-game, but they disappear quicker than they can be read, and there are none in the menu screens. A full tutorial walking the player through how to move, fight and navigate the game menus would have gone a LONG way towards cooling my displeasure over some of the game's other drawbacks. Furthermore, since this game is available as a download, you don't even get a manual to refer to!

I've tried to play this game at least a half dozen times, and I managed to make it to the lifeguard station and attempt a few of the sidequests. However, it was a mostly dispiriting and unengaging experience. There's no real sense of fear, desperation or paranoia. I think part of the reason is that the style of game play does not have the immediacy that it needs in order to really draw the player into the environment. I played for quite a few game hours, and I suddenly noticed that the weather never changed. The sun never set. The static, full-bore sunshine doesn't create a sense that the environment is real, and further detaches the player mentally from feeling like they are trapped in paradise.

While the idea of waking up to a zombiepocalyps on an beautiful tropical island with only the contents of the immediate surroundings to keep you alive sounds fantastic, "Dead Island" fails in almost every way to make that experience one filled with dread, desperation and sudden, bloody bursts of genuine horror. Instead it feels boring, confusing and frustrating in its tedious repetition.
