I was really hoping that, given they had more time and improvement in tech, that they would take the opportunity to drastically improve on the first game. I'm still scatching my head wondering if the Authors of Left Behind ever sat down and played the games. Or better yet, had one of their kids sit down, play the game, and be honest with them. Its a novel idea, making a Christian themed game. Particularly using the spiritual warfare angle. And believe me, I wanted to see it done and done well! I wish this hadn't diappointed. While the opening video is good and gets your attention, the game play itself is still dull and repedative. It's like it was slightly updated and repackaged. The missions are cheesey and promote a shallow 'Christian' stereotype. I wish they'd done more consultation before repeating the same mistakes. A for initiative, Dfor execution.

I got this over a year ago at the Christian bookstore in the 75% off rack. I couldn't play it because it wouldn't install. We had our computer fixed a couple months ago, and now it works. I was really excited to give this game a try. But in my opinion, it just isn't worth the money, even if I did get it for 75% off.

The game installed just fine. I started the tutorial to learn how to play. There are 3 different tutorials. I got through the first one just fine. FYI: I am a adult. I was frustrated, but made it through the first one.

However, I only made it a short ways into the second tutorial. I got stuck where it talked about how to train your recruit as a builder. It would tell you how to move, but it wasn't at all clear where you were supposed to move the person to. Normally tutorials walk you through step by step. It usually shows you which buttons to push and exactly where to click. Not this one. For example, at one point, you were supposed to send your new recruit to a camp. I had no idea where to find the camp. I thought maybe it would be somewhere on the gameboard. So I moved in both directions. I finally realized it meant a really small button in command box. But the tutorial was no help at all in regards to which button I needed to push or where it was located. I basically had to figure it out myself. Once I got my person into the camp, a screen with a bunch of people and a bunch of scrolls came up. The tutorial said to train your person as a builder, but gave no further instruction on how to do that. I just started click on scrolls and said my person became a builder. But I couldn't tell you which scroll it was because it wasn't labeled or anything. The next step was to create a bank for your unit. I figured out how to acquire a building, but then couldn't figure out how to convert it to a bank. I figured it was another tiny little icon. I turned it into a healing station by mistake. It said that I had created the wrong type of building (which I already knew) and to sell the building. I did that. Then it just repeated the instruction to build a bank. I never figure out how to create the bank. I couldn't even find the icon. I tried figuring it out. But eventually, I just gave up. I couldn't even complete the tutorial, so I didn't even attempt the actual game. This game was a huge disappointment. I wouldn't recommend it.

Received the game and didn't have a code with it and tried to get one from the company that distributed the game. They tried to get a code but could not. They did refund the money that we paid for it. We were trying to find christian games for our kids but I guess there are none out there.

I bought this game for a penny! + Shipping, then found out it was only a 4 hour trial. including the tutitorial. As much as I love the series of movies and booksthis game isn't worth my time!!!

Not a good gamers game. If you know nothing about games and what makes a good game and your not allowed to play them because they are evil and your parents won't let you play any good games, then this is the game for you. Cheesy graphics, clumsy control, repetitive hollow missions all contribute to the overall mediocre feel of the game. It took christian music a long time to come out with anything good, apparently it will take christian themed games a while longer as well.

A fantastic deal on two exceptional games. As has been stated in other reviews, these are the original XBOX 360 games and not the PC version of Gears of War 1. You do not get the extended campaign in the triple pack. Another important thing to note is the All Fronts DLC is not included on a disc, but rather as a code for the digital download. You will need about a gigabyte of space on your 360 to install the DLC. Even with this slight inconvenience, it is still a great deal on two great games.

Great game. However, I wasn't aware that if you buy it used than you don't get the expansion. I thought the all fronts pack was included in the package, however its just a code for the dlc on xbox live. If you buy it used, you only get 2/3's of the game as the code will be likely used by the previous owner. If you want the entire game, buy it new. That goes for purchasing it at any retailer out there.

Excellent collection of an incredible series, an advance to the third.

It is a very good buy especially for those like me are new jumping at the XBOX 360.

This package comes with original Gears of War, and its sequel, and the DLC, in physical form and other digital download.

Add-ons are the next: ALL FRONTS COLLECTION code, for maps Flashback, Combustible, Snowblind, and Dark Corners, also say 19 more maps, for Gears 2 extra campaign chapter, I put one photo, with the game content, hope helped.

Is definitely a great opportunity to enjoy two great games at a reduced price.

Honest reviews on Gears of War Triple Pack - Xbox 360 (Bundle)

You'll get two great games in this package, and even at full MSRP, it is a great deal. Two games which were originally $59.99 and a DLC pack which would run you $10 itself. With reviews of 94 and 93 of 100 on MetaCritic.com, they're both great fun games. With the first game, you'd be getting a stale multiplayer, but with the second one, you'd be getting an active online community and frequent Bonus Experience Points events. Personally, I loved the 1st game's single player story better than the 2nd one, anyway.

If you're new to Xbox or buying an Xbox for someone who is new to it, I cannot think of a good reason that an of-age person should not get this game as well.

I purchased all of these games and DLC individually and at full price, so at something closer to 1/5th of what I've spent on it, there is no way I can not highly recommend this item.

I am in the army in Japan right now and I have played DBZ Budokai 3 and let me tell you, it's awsome. It hasa similar story mode to the Budokai 1 and the same graphics as Budokai 2 and it also has some extra modes that i have no idea what they are because the're in Japanese but they are prety cool and there is one mode where you can make your own melee or ki attack in which you can choose the color of the beam which character knows it how strong it is and all sorts of stuff and the characters include Goku,Vegeta,Kid Gohan,Teen Gohan,Adult Gohan,Kid trunks,Teen Trunks,Adult Trunks,Kid Goten,Teen Goten,Vegeto,Gogeta,Gotenks,Picollo,Krillin,Tien,Yamcha,Videl,Hurcule,Great Saiyaman,Supreme Kai,Raditz,Nappa, everyone in the ginyu force, all forms of frieza,DR, Gero, Android 16,17,18,19, al forms of cell, cell junior,Garlic junior, salt, pepper, mustard, ketchup, all forms of buu, baby, and more that i forgot their names. But overall this game is the best DBZ game to ever come out so far so get this game!

Of all the Dragon Ball Z fighting games the Budokai series has always been easily the best. With simple responsive controls and fast paced action, and of course the crazy energy attacks, this stands above the first two as the best of the lot.

The story mode is vastly improved over last years title in that it not only follows the story, but allows you to develop your character (limited to the main Z hero's not villians or hidden) and unlock all sorts of hidden goodies as well as the natural progression of attacks and skills. The difficulty in story mode of course fluctuates and some times forces you to take time to strengthen your character (at randomly placed Battle Zones which range from Saibamen to Meta Cooler). Also at certain points in story mode (usually the second + time through with a certain character) you can sometimes branch away from the saga and do a movie battle of sorts (after you beat Frieza the first time but before Goku goes Super Sayin you can face off against Cooler instead). However this leads to complaint #1. During the key story moments instead of a cool cutscene we get this almost story book form instead that is really uncool.

The controls are identical with a few new improvements. The first is in order to make the action faster you can teleport behind your foe and hit but only if he attacks you first (a counter basically) as well go into hyper mode (all energy at once) which then allows you to unleash your most devastating attacks, which leads me to complaint #2. When doing the ultimate attacks it's either fastly speeding bar which is fairly inaccurate when you click to max it out or a 3 stage attack which increases the odds of you foe succeeding using the X O /\ or []. Most of the time despite being cool and powerful it's more of a pain to unleash than it should be.

Graphically it looks like last years model so if you liked the cell shading great if not tough.

The Voiceovers are great as expected, I found no problems with any of the voices while playing. However the Music is complaint #3. The music is Atari custome midi with little (and I mean very little) to none of the great american tracks that most fans who watch the series state side (not the imported Japanese) get to listen too. So at moments like when Goku first goes Super Sayin 3 it would be great to hear that track from that moment in the series playing. Or any big Vegeta fight have his theme going on.

Despite some of the shortcomings this is truely is a great game worth playing. It easlily destroys the past games and overall is worth picking up. I still say that this is what a 3D streetfighter should be like (or maybe more like the Recent Mortal Kombats it's hard to say).

Best Deals for Dragon Ball Z: Budokai 3 - PlayStation 2

Over the years, Akira Toriyama and the crew have been trying to please the fans. Atari and Dimps worked together to create Dragonball Z Budokai. The story was alright and while it was out for the Playstation 2, they were going to make a Gamecube version with better graphics. Next in the Budokai series came Dragonball Z Budokai 2. New characters, new moves, and a new kind of story mode. As we all know, the story mode for Dragonball Z Budokai 2 really sucked because it was like you were playing a board game rather than a fighting game. The only cool aspect about it was Vegito. Sadly, Budokai 2 lost the ability to destroy the arena like in the original Dragonball Z Budokai. But that was from the past to the present. Here we are, up to speed on the future as every Dragonball Z gamer counts down to what every DBZ gamer wants to see in a DBZ fighting game for the PS2. Presenting, Dragonball Z Budokai 3! This will assure you that maybe all hope wasn't lost after Budokai 2. You get to fly whenever you want, teleport counter behind foes, transform to SSJ4/Super Saiyan 4 & use a new technique called Dragon Rush which lets you give major damage to an enemy while enjoying the cinematics of the movie-style fighting sequence which is definitely made with possible counter-attacks. Furthermore, let's say if one guy plays as SSJ4 Goku and the other plays as SSJ4 Vegeta. If both players launch a regular beam such as 10X Kamehameha and Final Shine Attack, the beams will push against each other until one of them dominates the other with the analog stick making it just like the cartoon with a nice touch of cel-shaded graphics. And for those of you wondering, yes Broly is included along with DBGT, other DBZ movie and Budokai and Budokai 2 characters. Fans, this is definitely a game worth it's cash. Don't waste your time just reading this over and over again. One time should tell you that this is a must-buy DBZ game so get it as soon as you can because sales are gonna go out fast!

Honest reviews on Dragon Ball Z: Budokai 3 - PlayStation 2

To start with, the graphics of the game will remain cel-shaded as in budokai2. This game will contain more than 40 playable characters including all the characters in budokai 1+2 plus Broly(normal form,ss1,Ultra ss), Baby, Cooler(and Meta-Cooler), all the three forms of cell and Frieza and Buu, also Gogeta (ss1,2,4), Vegeta(ss1,2,4), Gogu(ss1,2,3,4) and many others.

Also, there will be a mode called Dragon road in which you can customise your character`s attack, defence and other...

The story mode will be available.

Also, the aura of the characters has dramatically improved and the characters can use teleportation. That is, characters can be teleported behind their enemy avoiding his attack. The teleportation can also be used in the world tournament to avoid getting out of the arena.

I am not sure that freeflight would be available.

This game is going to be great and i would buy it as soon as it comes out!!!!

Three's the charm in this case. I haven't yet played this game, but I have learned that they brought back story mode, however I have no idea what sagas it covers. I think Dragon World is still there but it is no longer a main mode. Of course there still is duel mode which features improved new attacks, much better aura, improved gameplay, and more characters than ever. Such as: Goku,Kid Gohan, Teen Gohan,Adult Gohan,Great Saiyaman,Goten,Teen Goten,Vegeta,Young Trunks,Teen Trunks,Tein,Yamcha,Chosue,Piccolo,Krillian,Raditz,Nappa,Dodoria,Zarbon, Guldo,Recoome,Burter,Jeice,Captain Ginyu,Freeza,King Cold,Dr.Gero,Andriod 16,17,18,19,Cell Jr.s,Cell,Saibamen,Pikkon,Videl,Hercule,Dabura,Majin Buu,Evil Buu,Super Buu,Kid Buu,Broly,Cooler,Bardock,King Vegeta,Garlic Jr.,all the Spice Boys, and some GT characters.

Tournament mode has been tweaked, and other modes have been added.Babidi's Spaceship has been eliminated. In one of the new modes you can customise your characters energy, stregth, speed, and so on. So far Budokai 3 looks to be 5 times more complete than the first two combined. I will write a new preview when I find more significant information.

Ummm, this game is ok to play but just.

I mean you go around and shoot things from one level to another skipping between the future and the past. The game play DOES become tedious and you should lose any enagaement with it after the first say 3 to 5 levels. Its not a particulary hard game, basically all get is swarms of AI coming for yah over and over and over AND OVER again with the occasional punch up.

The story begins with a prelude to the T3 film it is based on and then becomes involved with the events within the movie itself.

Graphically the CG scenes are quite good but still quite average and the actual gaming graphics is, at times horrid, but always never above average.

Game play is ok with you just knocking things off and there is an auto aim by pressing yah left trigger which can either help of hinder yah shooting depending on what yah trying to aim at, (auto aim will only lock on to one thing at a time). The flying AI will drive yah a bit insane.

Immersion is pretty bad for the average player but for fans of the films you make get a kick from being the Terminator and shooting other models of terminators, but i think this will be average and eventually dull gameplay for even the most die hard fan.

The extras are a bonus but are certainly not worth the full price of this game (maybe a cheap second hand copy would be a good purchase for fans).

Arnold's voice is a good addition to the game but becomes repeative and even though the Terminator is meant to be quite dry in tone and response, this Terminator tone sounds plained bored and its quite clear that Arnold was given a list of responses and quoted them quickly, picked up his pay cheque and left the sound recording thinking " Hasta La Vista Baby". There is just no enthusaim in this game.

The controls are just ok and its not hard to adjust to with about a 5 to 20 min learning time depending on yah experience and ability. For the most you will be shooting but occasionally you get a punch up and though the creators have justified the combot moving like a tank as these are Terminators not Kung-foo heros, it still just doesn't feel right and looks terrible. I don't expect them to do high, slow mode kicks and punches but i do expect some sort of fluidity with the controls. The fighting in this game is blocky, heavy and tank-like with you feeling your moving a 2 ton mach truck and moving it badly. I mean remeber the fight in the passage way of the shopping mall between Arnold and the T-1000. The one where John Connor realises he is in some serious doggy doo. Well this was heavy handed fighting, but was fluid. The way they oushed each other into the walls and through them. Each move moved into another gracefully but forcefully. Thats what this game should have adapted to . More combos might have helped this situation and tighter controls. Basically more care with the game and more creative ways of combat would have helped.

Overall the game is just poorly average and is one to buy at full price ONLY for those that have the cash to waste or consider themselfs to be die hard fans that simply must have everything Terminator. Personally id rather watch the movies but i may pick this up when its in a bargin bin somewhere so i have the extras.

Rent this game lads Don't buy buy the movies instead !!!!

Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines is bar none the worst game tied to a movie license that I've ever played. The graphics are drab and lifeless, the controls are clunky, and the missions are boring and tedious. The game's only saving grace is the plethora of unlockables (CG in-game movies, theatrical clips, behind the scenes clips, stills, etc.) available to you as you progress through the game as well as a playable demo of a much better, currently unannounced, terminator game called T3: Redemption. There were times when I found myself playing the demo rather than the actual game itself. In it, you play as Arnold from a third person perspective as you blast away cyborgs and HK's on foot or on vehicle through a nuclear-scorched Los Angeles. This was the game that I should have been playing, not the rushed hack job I got instead. For die-hard fans, save you money till T3: Redemption comes out. Rise of the Machines by itself, is just an expensive demo.

Well, what can one say about this game.

I guess your here wanting to know whether this game is any good or not ?

Answer : By far it is a sub average game with VERY tedious gameplay and poorly exucuted story fragments and cutscenes. The whole game is a bit of a mish mash of CGI footage and actual movie footage which really makes the game feel like it is cut and pasted.

The CGI is pretty good though a bit foggy looking like the beginning of Resident Evil Remake for Nintendo ( meaning there is a slight blur to it all). The movie scenes are good but just seemed un-nesccary and really didn't add anything to the game (if i wanted to see the film id get that).

The controls are relatively easy and don't take much time to pick up. Probabely because you will be doing the same thing over and over again. The AI in the game respawn in certain areas and you will be contiunally shooting those damn flying machines forever thinking " im getting bored of this". The developers just throws AI at you with the occasional mission directive (like find Sarah Connors coffin)and think they have this new sensational game. No they don't !!!!!!

Don't be fooled either by there campaign that they have the REAL man himself and that this makes the game better than any other. Arnold really doesn't have alot to do with this game. Basically all Arnold had to do for this game was go in a sound booth for a minute say 10 words like " excellent" " reloaded" and so forth and here we have the result. A game that really is repeative in every way and has no real distinction over other Terminators games for having the big fella involved.

The environments are mostly from the future setting with black charcol skys and burnt building and out of 22 levels about 18 of these are all like this. Boring, Dull and just too similar for anyone to care.

And this whole first person shooter cross bred with fist fighting ????? Yer, it works and i didn't mind the bouts with the T-X. I even get the lack of fluidity with the controls as these are machines fighting not kung-fu max payne rip offs. But still, it nuthin revoultionary or really adds a great deal for the game play. Though this was my favourite part of the game and trust me thats not saying much.

I played the whole thing through even though i got bored after the first 4 levels. The whole thing is a un-insipring mess that is not the NEXT big thing in gaming nor a decent add on to the Terminator mythos.

Conclusion: A big commerical mess that does not deliver on any of it's promises. RENT DONT BUY even if your a fan !!!!

Honest reviews on Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines - Xbox

This game is very good. You get to play as Arnold and play in the future and in the present and fight the t-x along the way.It does justice to T3 and if you enjoyed the movie, any of the movies, or you just like first person shooters than youll like this. Its not as good as Halo, but what is? you wont be dissapointed.

I think the faceplate and skinz will ultimately look better on the black Xbox 360 Elite system, since the graphics are not large enough to wrap around the white or red systems.I have the black elite system and this product looks great on there. I recently purchased a pair of these after much debate wether or not they would be worth the cost. I purchased them with the SuperNova DDR Game.

First thing I noticed is that the pads' foam is much smaller than most of the wired pads out today not by much but when you start to move you notice the response isn't as good as wired. But I blame this on that the pads need to be broken in abit.

Its is very compatible with the Komani DDR Games BUT if you have Dance Factory from CodeMasters as your game I STRONGLY recommend you do not buy these pads. Why?

When you go through the screen sections the pads act normal, but when you go to actually dance, you get the flip side of this. None of the arrow keys register. Not one.. Only, the outside corner pads register. Now this would not be so fustrating until you realise that even if you try to change the pads layout on the controller via the game it still registers those buttons by its only configuration. Lucky I stil have my wired pads but its a shame I have to keep them around just for this one problem.

So due to that I had to give these a "3" star. If you are not using the Dance Factory game I would give it a 4, but that would be even a high 3 but a low four.

Hopefully codemasters or ddrgame will take a look at this issue for their next gen of thier products and figure out where they went wrong.

Still with the freedom you have for the pads been wireless and the cost it can be worth the buy. Just be cautious of its limitation.

Masters of the Universe: He-Man: Power of Greyskull Review

Masters of the Universe: He-Man: Power of Greyskull
Customer Ratings: 4.5 stars
Buy Now
Introduction:

Masters of the Universe is one of the best action-adventure games I have played in a long time. The stylish graphics and wonderful gameplay provide many hours of heart felt enjoyment.

Gameplay:

Masters of the Universe has all the gameplay you expect from action-adventure games. Packed with tons of enemies, bosses, power-ups, and a huge sword.

The game enemies are anything from slugs to spiders to giant beasts. Then there are the bosses. There is a boss at the end of almost every level. Each boss has different weapons and abilities and each level the boss gets tougher (obviously!). These levels consist of riding on the back of 4-legged animals through a course. As you move throughout the course there are obstacles to jump over and move around. You also must collect different items on your way. I found these levels to be the most fun of all.

Graphics:

One thing I did like about the graphics was when you your character move's behind objects, the object whatever it be turns semi-transparent so you can see the character behind it. This helps a lot when playing levels when it is imperative to hide behind objects.

Lifespan:

Masters of the Universe has a very long lifespan. Not only does the game last a long time, it is very fun to go play missions over again. I can't get enough of some missions and I go back and play them all the time. This game is definitely great if you want a game that lasts a long time.

Closing Comments:

If you're looking for a good game in the genre I highly suggest this one. While it may have it's flaws it is one great game.

This game is much better than I thought it would be! I just got the game on the first day it came out, and even though I haven't beaten it yet, the graphics, gameplay, music, the whole shibang is above the rim! The chracters are amazingly detailed, and the levels are also detailed, but small. Clawful, the first boss, is a little hard for me to beat right now, but I will eventually find a way. This game has gone above my expectations and is a game no Masters of the Universe fan should be without!

Honest reviews on Masters of the Universe: He-Man: Power of Greyskull

I bought this game because I'm a fan of He-Man. I didn't expect much from it, and I got even less.

Let's start with the graphics:

The in-game graphics are computer models made into sprites, meant to give a 3D look. It looks like they set the lighting way too high though, since some of the sprites have large areas of white. It's hard to even tell what some of them are a lot of the time. If there's anything good I can say about the graphics, it's that they did make use of artwork from the cartoon in menus, character portraits, etc.

Sound and music:

The music is pretty forgettable. The sound is repetitive and slightly annoying. Hey, at least they got Cam Clarke's voice for the opening though. "I have the power!"

Gameplay:

I could look past everything else if the game was fun. It isn't. At all. It's annoying. You wander around the levels, finding one thing to open something else, collecting crystals and moving from one island to another, the isometric view making jumps difficult to gauge. All the while you're being attacked by hordes of uninteresting monsters, almost none of them coming from the show.

That would be okay too, but for some reason it takes the strongest man in the universe several strikes with his magic sword to kill the simplest monster or robot. That wouldn't be too bad either, if it wasn't so slow. Oh, but you can charge up your attack to deal a more powerful blow. Oh right, that's even slower, so you have to run away from everything while you're charging it, and it's still not enough to kill most things in one hit.

Oh, and if the game wasn't slow and annoying enough to begin with? Don't worry, a lot of monsters can poison you, making you move even slower while they pick away at your life. Fun, right?

There's a bonus level or two that breaks up the monotony and frustration of the regular levels, where you ride on Battlecat through an autoscrolling field collecting crystals, jumping over obstacles and shooting monsters. It's a nice change of pace at least.

Conclusion:

This game is a textbook example of licensed shovelware. It looks bad and it plays worse. Avoid it unless you just plan to display it next to your He-Man figures and never play it.

I was really looking forward to this title, but I now have the biggest case of buyer's regret that I think I've ever had with any game. I play a lot of racing games, and I think this is the biggest ripoff I've ever experienced in a game purchase. Understand that I'm playing on the "Easy" difficulty setting and "Novice" driver setup with all assists on, and I've still only been able to get through about 8% of the campaign, and unless Atari comes out with major update to either dial back the difficulty and/or fix the really bad, twitchy handling, this is probably about as far as I'll ever get. I wouldn't mind so much if you were given unlimited access to all the tracks and cars in Arcade and Time Trial modes, but the vast majority of the game's content is locked until you unlock them in the campaign. So as things stand right now, I only have access to 9 out of 36 tracks (nothing from Nordschleife) and 12 out of 52 cars.

Atari, you are hurting yourselves and gaming in general when you make games this inacessable and frustrating. I applaud your choice to have selectable difficulty settings in the game (ALL GAMES SHOULD HAVE THIS), but if you're going to have an Easy setting, IT SHOULD ACTUALLY BE EASY. By all means, have a Difficult setting for hard core gamers who want to spend hundreds or thousands of hours pursuing a near impossible goal if that's what they really want. But for the rest of us mere mortals who want to have fun, and not another freaking job, please give us (and yourselves) a break.

i have been playing race video games for over 35 years and have played most of the top rated arcades and sims from the genre...and preordered game with high expectations...unless you want to pay 50 bucks to be frustrated keep your money in your pocket...this game is the king of restarts...the creator has only given one path in each of the eras to follow..whether you like it or not you have to complete each of the events in order for era...unlike other top games that will allow you to choose which races you want to run and which order you want to run them in...this is a very frustrating game to play...sometimes requiring a dozen or more restarts to complete the event even on the easy setting...i am very proficiant at racing games with more than a thousand hours on forza 3 and 4 alone...this game needs a menu revamp to allow user to choose his or her own path through events...until then don't waste your money.

I was desperately hoping this game would be one of those under the radar titles that turns out to be way better than anything might suggest.

Instead we're presented with an ambitious idea, that falls way short of what it could been. It's a shame because there are plenty of things the game does right, that are lost in what it does wrong.

Let me start off by saying that this game is difficult. Several other reviews have made mention that even on easy, they are struggling to get through the game. I opted to play the game through on hard difficulty. It is challenging to say the least. The real meat of the game is the campaign mode where the game is broken down into 3 different segments: Golden Era, Silver Era, and Modern Era. The Golden and Silver eras have 10 missions in each, and each mission has a different number of events that one must complete. The Modern Era has 15 missions instead of 10. It's a simple idea. However, where the problem comes in, is that the developers made it so you cannot skip around to different missions or different events in missions. You have to go through each one to unlock the next. In the Golden Era, you have the opening mission, no other mission is unlocked. You can only access the first event. Upon completing the main objective, the second event then unlocks. So you must play each event while successfully completing the main objective in order to unlock the next mission. It's tedious and unfortunate they chose to create the game in such a manner. About the only freedom one has, is that they can go into any era they would like. You do not have to start out with Golden, and then beat that in order to progress to Silver. While it might not sound particularly bad, the bulk of the tracks and cars in time trial mode are locked, and the only way to unlock them is by beating the Campaign mode. For anyone hoping to use classic cars such as the 1979 Ferrari F1 car right out of the gate, you will be disappointed. Not until you complete the mission and all the events in the Silver Era where the car is, will it be unlocked.

Now, if this game were easier, it's possible this could have been overlooked to a degree. The game has little flow in terms of difficulty. Some events are easy even on hard, others are brutal and enough to induce rage in the most calm gamers. The problem with the difficult arises mostly in the time trial events. After speaking to several others who have this game, we seem to have reached a general consensus that the time trial events are the absolute worst thing in this game. On hard difficulty, there were some time trials I did think were able to even be completed. You have to be capable of pulling qualifying pole position laps, lap after lap, much in the way Michael Schumacher did in his prime with the Ferrari F1 team. You also have to cut corners without having your lap time disallowed, as I cannot find any conceivable way of beating certain time trial times on hard without cutting corners. Some times are not too difficult, but if you are trying to reach the Legend rank, it appears that every main and bonus objective will need to be beaten. The bonus objectives tend to be where the more difficult times are. While beating the bonus objective times may not be of importance to those who do play the game, for anyone seeking to get the full 1000 gamer score will find it essential. On the other side of the coin, when events are actual races, these are incredibly easy for the most part. The only difficult aspect of races is avoiding the AI cars. Any contact with them whether your fault, or their fault, results in your car likely spinning off the track. It's easy to find yourself constantly restarting races because of contact early on that throws the pace off. Once you get past the AI cars, the race turns into a joke. They aren't capable of keeping up at all save for a few races where they appear to learn to race just for that event. That's not the norm. In one Modern era event on the Imola 1981 circuit, I found myself in a 10 lap race, lapping half the field before the final lap. The difficulty is probably the biggest drawback from this game, and is not for those who are just ok at racing games.

The controls are another issue. The handling can be downright awful. Certain cars can be incredibly twitchy. Too much back and forth to try to straighten a car out can cause a loss of grip with the track, and you'll find yourself smashing into walls/barriers/other cars. Most of this has to do with the car physics themselves. Some cars actually do feel like they have weight when you drive them. Other cars give a sense of weightlessness when driving them. If you learn to be smooth with turning the cars, it becomes easier to have better control over the cars. Do not expect Forza 4, or Gran Turismo 5 handling with a lot of the cars, more in the case of the older cars. From what I can tell though, the cars as they get newer do begin to handle much better. If you stick with the game, you'll likely develop a great feel for what you can, and cannot do with the cars. I found one of the tricks with the earlier cars is to get them to slide through turns as it makes it easier to handle them. The other trick is to learn to turn in on corners early because there are a lot of corners that can be taken much faster than you may think, but it is all dependent on turning in at the right time. The earlier versions of Monza are a great example. With some of the Golden era cars, I found if I turned into the Curva Grande at the right time, I was able to add 20+ KPH to the car speed through the corner. When you can find 20-30 more KPH on corners, it makes a huge difference in the time trial times you will set.

The graphics are a bit disappointing. They would have been acceptable around 2007, maybe 2008 at the latest. I have found pop-up to occur on certain tracks when you look into the distance. In 2012, there is no reason for pop-up in racing games. I lived with it in Gran Turismo 2 in 1999 on the PS1 when console hardware was not capable of what it is now. I expect a bit more from my games on the graphics front nowadays. The tracks themselves do not have the "pop" that you get from Forza 4. They are rather sterile in comparison. But this has more to do with the dated graphics than anything. The car models themselves are actually nice, still not up to Forza 4, or even Forza 3 levels, but it seems to be where the bulk of graphical development focus was spent. All Ferrari cars do have interior cockpit views, which is actually a nice touch. I enjoyed seeing it more for the F1 cars than anything.

If you like the sound of Ferrari engines, you'll enjoy the sound of the game. If you are expecting anything beyond engine sounds, such as an actual music soundtrack, you will be disappointed. There is no soundtrack for this game. The only "soundtrack" are the sounds of the engines. For me, I have absolutely no issue with this because Ferrari cars are known for their distinctive engine sounds. In other racing games that use real world cars, I turn the music off just to listen to the engine.

One of the things I do like about this game are the inclusion of certain tracks that to my knowledge have never been included in a regular console racing game. I know all of the tracks in the game do appear in the PC racing sim rFactor. For anyone who has played rFactor, the included tracks won't hold much value. For others, they may. The inclusion of the Imola circuit as it existed from 1981 till the deaths of Ayrton Senna and Roland Ratzenberger in 1994, is fantastic. I absolutely adored Imola in those days. I was never a fan of of the redesign that took out the Tamburello Corner, and reworked both the Variante Bassa and the Acqua Minerali chicanes. While I would have much more enjoyed the original 14KM Spa Francorchamps circuit, we get the 1980 version, which includes the Bus Stop chicane, as well as a lot of missing parking lot-sized runoff areas. Spa is always a fantastic track for everyone. The old Hockenheimring is here with the long straights through the forests. One of the more curious additions was of Rouen-Les-Essarts. It was the host for F1 back in the 1950s and 1960s, and it wasn't a track I would have expected to see in a modern racing video game simply because F1 last raced there in 1968. It's actually a fun track because of the elevation changes involved. Overall, while I do like some of the tracks included, there is not enough variety in this game. During the Campaign, racing the same few tracks over, and over again, in an Era grows very repetitive. The developers could, and should have added more tracks to this game. It's amazing that so many racing game developers make the mistake of not adding a lot of tracks to their games. The worst thing you can do is cause a game to feel repetitive due to a lack of track selection. There are more than enough cars in the game, but not enough tracks.

What is my final verdict on this game?

The truth about this game is it is geared mostly towards the tifosi (diehard Ferrari fans) who bleed Ferrari. It's not worth buying for more than $19.99, and even at that it may not be a good bargain if you are not able to handle the difficult level of this game. I actually have had some fun with the game, so that's why I rated it 2 stars. The other reason is because as a huge F1 fan, getting to drive the F1 cars such as the 312 F1-67, 312 T4, F1-87, and the F1-90 were actually a lot of fun. The F1 cars actually do handle much better than a lot of the cars in the game, and have a fantastic sense of speed. I was rather disappointed that for some inexplicable reason, they did not include the Ferrari F2004 in the game. The F2004 was the fastest F1 car Ferrari ever built, and absolutely dominated the 2004 season, yet they did not put it in the game. Beyond that, it's a niche game for a niche audience. If you aren't sure about the game, either rent it if possible, or wait till the price drops. If you still are not sure, ask yourself how hard you want to work at a video game. If you want to just put a game in and play it without too much frustration, avoid this game. If you absolutely need a challenge, then consider playing this game. As mentioned earlier, it's a good concept for a game, that unfortunately has just enough wrong with it that keeps it from being a good racing title.

For the achievement hunters: This game is not an easy 1000/1000. The achievement list is straightforward, but the difficulty can be such that it may deter you from ever finishing the game.

Honest reviews on Test Drive: Ferrari Legends - Xbox 360

Ok, I have to start off and say I am a big-time Forza fan and even have a Fanatec Forza racing wheel. (Best Wheel I have ever owned ! ) Anyway, there is no comparison to Forza but I enjoy a variety of racing games. This game so far is enjoyable. The Graphics are just OK and the sound is just OK but here is my biggest problem with the game. I am racing in the Golden era and being that I am a mediocre racer I set the racing options at Novice and it makes it fun for me. The problem is if I choose the Modern era I am screwed. It is if they forgot to apply the Novice settings to this era because I get left in the dust every time no matter how hard I try !!! I am hoping they do an update and fix the problem otherwise it is not playable for me. Just playing in the Golden era I overall rate it as pleasent and enjoyabe but Not Forza. Being I pre-ordered it and only paid $37.00 for it I am going to keep it. If I had paid the $49.00 they are charging for it now I would return it as so far 2/3 of the game for me is un-playable.

Neat start, thought I was with the program, later difficulty prevented me from getting to the tracks I wanted

. The setup options brought some drivability back but the AI keeps killing your efforts!

Take the last lap slow if you have a lead as the AI will make your car un handleble.

Summary: Good staet but really bad later chance to un lock tracks. Would bet most buyers don't get to all the tracks (i.e. nurburgring)

Shadow Complex sets a new bar for quality in an XBLA game. It's a side scrolling action game in the style of retro classics like Metroid and Castlevania, where exploration, hidden rooms, and power-ups all play large rolls as you progress through the game. But while the game is presented in 2 dimensions, the visuals are all beautifully rendered in 3D using the same Unreal engine seen in games like Mass Effect and Gears of War. The end result is a near perfect blend of both the old and new, and a game that feels both familiar and fresh at the same time.

Shadow Complex takes about 5-10 hours to complete, depending on how thorough you're going to be exploring the game and searching for power-ups, and is purely a single player experience. While I might usually find that a bit on the short side for a retail game, for a $15 arcade game it's just about right. Shadow Complex is easily one of my top 5 games on XBLA. I would recommend this game to just about anyone.

Update: After spending a bit more time in this game, I thought I'd expand a bit on my initial review. A lot of people have called this a "Metroid-vania" game, but really it's just Metroid. The game borrows heavily from Super Metroid, and there are more than a few weapons and power-ups that have direct analogs in the SNES classic. I don't really consider that a bad thing though. As the saying goes, if you're going to steal, steal from the best. And while Shadow Complex may not really expand on the formula laid out in Super Metroid, it refines it and polishes it to near perfection. Simply put, if you liked Super Metroid, you'll love Shadow Complex.

A long while ago, in a time of inferior technology and rustic gameplay elements, the side-scroller reigned supreme. The genre has spawned some of the greatest games of all-time, but like all good things, it went away for a while. Being unable to cope with its absence, Chair crafted Shadow Complex a quirky, futuristic, side-scrolling shooter. To put it quite simply, it has resurrected the genre in the best way possible.

The long-running Castlevania series and the earlier Metroid titles are usually credited with being the best examples of side-scrolling ingenuity and Shadow Complex pays homage to these games in almost every way. The graph-paper maps, exorbitant amounts of upgrades, ridiculous varieties of platforming puzzles and weapons, it's all here. Orson Scott Card's "Empire" was also the basis for the story, giving it instantly more appeal. Speaking about story, the protagonist's name is Jason Bailey, a normal dude who's out frolicking with his latest pickup at the bar. Quickly, a seemingly harmless day of cave diving turns into a search and rescue operation from the clutches of a super-terrorist organization called the Restoration.

Okay, so the story isn't exactly the most detailed narrative on the planet, but this is an arcade game and that's one of the biggest shockers. The amount of shear depth is startling and the visuals Shadow Complex doles out are seriously better than some big-budget, full-priced games out there. It's Unreal Engine 3 at its finest. But the gameplay is really what makes the game shine. It's standard side-scrolling fair with a twist that can only be described as 2.5D. That means enemies can be patrolling in the backgrounds and crates could be just off to the side of where you are walking. You'd think it would make shooting a little tricky but since the game's aiming works a lot like the shooting in Geometry Wars, you don't have much of a problem hitting where you want.

My favorite aspect of the classic side-scrolling formula is being rewarded for exploration. Hell, exploring is practically synonymous with the genre. Not only will you inevitably run into some beefy items and exciting upgrades while you light up all those squares on your map, you'll also receive more experience which is a reward in itself. As you level up you'll gain additional passive statistics which don't seem like they do much, but every tenth level you'll be thrown something immensely satisfying. For instance, if you reach the 20th level the game reveals the entire map for you. It may not help those who are only interested in clearing the game, but it's a godsend for the completionist out there. And who in their right mind would stop playing the game when you're that close to getting the shield-dispensing helmet that deflects all manner of projectiles? That's what I thought.

If you've ever played some of the classic side-scrollers, you'd know that towards the end of the show it can become quite a hassle to find certain things. Maybe there's a secret wall you have to hit to find an item, but it's uncharted on your map and there's no clues to its location. Chair has paid attention to old problems like this and labeled absolutely everything. Rooms with items are marked with a "?" and become a simple dot once you've taken it. Different floor sections are color-coded and there's even a blue line (which you can disable) that shows you where you need to go next. The only issue that's apparent is that sometimes there are multiple items in a single/save room and you won't be able to see them on the map. It'll definitely make completionists frown since it's pretty tough to remember those spots.

Shadow Complex isn't a long trip (my first clear took around five hours) but it's such a memorable and fun experience that you'll definitely go through it multiple times. If you choose to do so you'll also retain your level and certain goodies you may have found if you took the time to get everything. There's also a time-trial mode called the Proving Grounds. It's nothing spectacular but the puzzles are a nice, fun distraction and the awesome leaderboard integration makes it fun to compete with friends.

With Shadow Complex, Chair has given the jump-start the side-scroller genre needs to get back on track. It's deep, intuitive, and it makes certain full-priced games look like pure garbage. Even if you're not a classic side-scrolling junkie, there's something about pushing yourself to explore the depths of the underground facility, something about finding one more upgrade for your suit, getting one more headshot for the leaderboard count. And that's when you realize it's fun at its purest level.

If you grew up with Contra, then moved onto Super Metroid ..and then finally PS1 Castlevania: Symphony of the Night ...you will flat out love this game.

It takes the 2d platformer and revamps it to 2.5d, while maintaing all the game mechanics we loved about these games ...heavy map exploration, weapon upgrades, a leveling systems, puzzles, and on top of it all it looks gorgeous for a $15 game.

I dont review anything at all, but this game is so awesome i must.

Honest reviews on Shadow Complex

I knew nothing about Shadow Complex leading up to the game's release, but after hearing a few friends hype it up and watching a few videos I purchased it right after it's release. While the game is a bit short (if you really push it you can beat it in 2 hours or so) it is still a ton of fun, worth a purchase.

Tracing it's roots back to Metrodvania, Shadow Complex is a 2.5D side scrolling platformer/adventure game. Controls are a bit odd as one stick moves your character and the other aims your gun, but after playing for a little while it becomes second nature. You start off as a mere mortal and throughout the game acquire power-ups that turn you into an unstopable behemoth (to the point where at the end of the game if you've picked up all the items you are neigh invincible). You've got a few guns to acquire, different launchers (rockets, grenade, riot foam which is fantastically fun), health/armor upgrades and suit upgrades. Suit upgrades give you new skills and let you access new areas.

You will be hard pressed to find a negative review of the game from any of the major gaming publications/sites because, quite simply, there are very few areas to fault the game on. The story is decent, the gameplay is a ton of fun, the graphics and sound are excellent, and it has a very clearly defined gameplay style that it stays within and plays well in.

If you're a fan of the old 2D Metroid games or Castlevania: Symphony of the Night you are going to absolutely love this game from start to finish, through your multiple playthroughs. If you just like well made fun to play games you'll enjoy the game equally. Give Shadow Complex a whirl.

The first thing that struck me about `The World Ends With You' is the high quality of the production values. This is a one slick looking game. The next thing that hit me was how complicated the game is. I tend to prefer simpler RPG's like Paper Mario and the fantastic Mario and Luigi games but once you get past the moderate learning curve this is an awesome game. It's also a game the devilishly hard to put down.

As with just about every RPG ever created the meat of the game involves battles and leveling up. The action takes place on both the top and bottom screens. The top screen is managed using the directional pad while the lower requires the stylus. Players are given the choice as to which screen to control while the action in the opposite screen is taken care of by the system. I would generally switch back and forth in mid battle. The stylus attacks are more fun and powerful but the directional pad attacks can allow for devastating synced attacks. It all works very well and has yet to grow tedious. As a player gets more confident in fighting she can chain battles to fight multiple enemies in a row for greater rewards.

The rewards for battles include the standard experience points, cash and treasure but you also get experience points for the pins you bring to the fight. Pins? Pins are a way to customize your attacks. By attaching one or more pins you can employ various attacks including flames, ice, bullets using motions of the stylus. Most pins are upgradable through experience and some even evolve into more powerful pins.

The game I'm most reminded of playing TWEWY is the classic River City Ransom and that is high praise indeed. The game involves traveling around a city, fighting battles and purchasing clothes, foods and pins to increase your fighting abilities. River City Ransom was one of the all time great games and I always wondered why its formula wasn't emulated more. I'm not sure that the developers of The World had River City Ransom in mind when they created this game but it certainly was on mine while I played it.

This is one of the best handheld RPG's I've ever played. The story is very good if a bit more verbose than I usually like. The best thing I can say about this game is I never got bored and that's not always the case with RPG's. There is so much character building in the game whether it be upgrading your pins, creating relationships with salespeople or just increasing your attack and defense stats. I would have to put this game in the must get category for RPG fans.

I won't rehash all that has been said previously about this game in the other reviews. Simply put: This is the best game I've ever played on the DS. It ranks right up in the Top 3 I've ever played.

I am mainly writing this review for all you casual gamers out there. This game walks you through the steps and actually teaches you what to do PLUS you get practice time. One of my big issues with games is the frustration level since you don't know what to do or where to do it. I bought a DS and a Wii as a way to play more with my kids, since they prefer video over board games (board games are what I grew up with). In an effort to spend some more time with them doing things *they* like to do I started playing the DS. We have found a few Wii games but the majority are only so-so. I was very worried that the DS would have the same problem but we've found quite a few excellent games that really are varied. I have to say this 40+ year old mom has a new love.

Back to the game: I cannot express how awesome this game is. As a FIRST TIME RPG/Action player I have had no problem picking up all the skills needed to play. It is varied and has many options for difficulty. In fact (much to my surprise!) I have been doing much of the game at all 3 levels in order to collect the most pins and level them up. EDA: There is an Ultimate level you get to after beating the game--I've played it as well and it is far more challenging but quite fun!

For any type of gamer I highly recommend TWEWY. I can only hope they make a sequel.

Edited in 2010: This game remains on my top 5 DS games. Since I wrote this review I've played many games for the DS and become much more of a gamer with a particular focus on RPG, SRPG, and Puzzle games. TWEWY's music, characters, unique battle system and storyline are still amongst the best I've ever experienced on the DS. It really is the package that puts this game above so many others--individual games may have strengths in one thing or another but I have found few that can put it all together and provide you a memorable game experience. There are so many little things in this game that make a difference--from the catchy unique music to the way you can aquire experience by taking a break from the game. This title retains its place of honor amongst my games. If someone is looking for an RPG that's not like the others this is still my top recommendation!

I just wanna tell everyone about an EXCEPTIONAL game. From beginning to end, in every way, I found it to be a true work of art... in fact, the elements come together to make it one simple thing; a masterpiece.

It is called The World Ends With You, by Square-Enix for the Nintendo DS. I won't go into details about exactly what happens... but just know, the plot, storyline twists, and character development are some of the best in any game I have ever played. They are on par with the best movies I have ever seen.

The game takes you through a journey questioning what it means to be alive, and what the point of living truly is. It keeps you on your toes trying to guess the end, and in the final moments still leaves you absolutely shocked, and even leaves many points unresolved (but luckily you can go back after you beat it and complete tasks which answer these ideas which were vaguely laid out for you). It does so in a mind-twisting way that is so distinctively Japanese its brilliance is astounding.

On top of all of that, it features an exceptionally unique art style, with an innovative and fun battle system. In fact, every system or menu in the game is extremely original, yet simple and easy to get a hang of. The music is also top notch (all sorts of j-pop & rock), and theres lots to collect and play with.

Its rare I will praise ANYTHING this much... but this game rekindles that majesty Square used to be known for; the ability to touch the player with a story told not in a couple hours, but through a course of dozens of hours and countless interactive experiences. The ending, as well as several moments in the game, struck a cord with me and what I am dealing with in my own life. Almost never has a game been so inspirational and therapeutic, while completely avoiding sounding like a self-help book.

The World Ends With You mixes fun and an incredibly powerful narrative into one interactive masterpiece. Its games like these that make me remember why I consider video games to be the most potent art form in our world today.

Honest reviews on The World Ends With You

I used to play a lot of RPG but quit for a long time because most RPG games are just repetitive. Most RPG games you just proceed through a linear storyline and a lot of battles are turned base. There's really no fun in most of the gameplay because of the lack of action, but they're cool with special effects from battles. The World Ends With You however is ENTIRELY UNIQUE; there is no close substitute to this game.

Graphics:

Really fluid motion and great colors to the game.

The cutscene with the anime characters look smooth and fit into the mood of the game.

Music:

Really catchy with the mood of the storyline.

Some are in English and some are in Japanese ;)

Gameplay:

It's a hack and slash with REALLY REALLY good concept. It doesn't get repetitive at all.

Each slash you do is automatically determined by how you slashed the DS stick and depending on the pin you have, your attacks and the effects will be different. Ex. if you slash across a Noise (the monsters) you do a physical slash on the Noise, but if you gently hold down to DS stick and move it across the screen, your character will create a wall of fire.

Pins give you different attacks & there are so many pins you can customize (plus they level up)

Clothing is really nice because you can customize 4 for each character.

Food enables you to gain permanent stats (don't worry about messing up the stats because there's a fixed maximum for all the stats anyways).

The ability for you to change the difficulty to gain more experience and better drop rate deserves a noble prize.

The dual screen lets your partner character help you fight the Noise (they are the same enemy you fight just on different screen).

You can choose to control your partner by using the arrow pad while you control the main character with the DS stick. If you choose not to, you can set in the option to have the computer play your partner's character 100%. If you control your partner and go inactive for a few seconds, they will automatically take over for you.

The accuracy and smoothness of the DS stick is VERY VERY sharp.

Storyline:

Wow it has a really nice twist.

Things are NOT as what they appear.

The story is one of the better ones out there entirely unique and new plot not seen before in other RPG.

Conclusion:

Even though the first thing you might notice about this game are the fantastic graphics and music. The REAL revolutionizing factor is the gameplay. That's what you're looking for in the game.

The game stars a young teenager, Neku, a kid sick and tired of the world and the people in it, who wakes up in a strange version of his hometown with all his memories gone. It turns out to be a game organized by a strange group that calls themselves "Reapers" where he has to work with this strange preppy stalker girl, Shiki, to win the game in 7 days or face "erasure"!

The game play takes a little time to get use to, but feels extremely satisfying when you do get good at it. You control Neku at the bottom screen with the stylus and control Shiki at the top with the buttons, at the same time. This sounds a little confusing, at first but you quickly do get the hang of it, the game also features many ways to adjust the difficulty to your liking. You equip pins to modify Neku's psychic powers, most pins also have brands that get enhancements depending on the trends in your location. In fact, even the clothing that your characters equip get bonuses based off of the trends.

The game even takes the ideas of trends and fashions and applies it to the art and music. It's soundtrack features a trendy mix of Hip-hop, Rock, Techno and JPop reminding some of other artistic games with trendy music such as Jet Set Radio. The art as well is hard and edgy, with many sharp edges and strange proportions, it definitely takes style and cranks it past 11.

The only thing I can say where it lacks is the lack of a multiple player battle mode or co-op, (It features multiple player in the forum of a fun mini-game) and that it has only one save file. However with the intriguing story (with it's surprising plot twists), addictive gameplay, quantity of things to explore, collect, and customize, and killer sound track and art, The World Ends With You is a game you do not want to miss! (And with the game being hard to find you should check back as often as possible to see when it is available)

A WARNING TO PARENTS: This game is rated T for Teen. Some games rated T are more okay for children than others, (with content matching what is often in children's cartoon shows despite being rated T) . This game however, is not the case, despite the kid-friendly design of the characters this game this game features a lot of STRONG LANGUAGE and ADULT CONTENT, and I strongly suggest this for ONLY AGES 13 AND UP.

I keep seeing these adds more and more, and once they showed up on my favorite game news sites with a thumbs up, I decided to try a set. They were about $15, so what the hell right?

Well, I snapped them on and threw in Halo Reach, and at first I found them awkward, but I knew this was due to them being new to me.

MAKE SURE YOU RAISE THE SENSITIVITY OF YOUR GAME, or you won't get the benefit of how these work.

After a few games, and getting destroyed online by REAL people I started to get better, and better. I'm not a bad player by any means, but since I had not used them before I knew going in I would have some crap games with these and would loose until I got used to them.

Now that I am, I can honesty say I am more accurate than before due to the larger range of motion. I can snap to a target quicker and better than the standard stick. I tested this by going back and I did worse than when I started with them HA HA :)

Give 'em a try, and don't be discouraged the first 10 games you play. You will need time to re-learn movements, but after that you will see a positive difference.

I like them.

It was odd getting them onto the ps3 controller and odd first playing with them; however, now that I have played using them for the past week, I think my game has improved. Hard to believe this stupid little thing could make a difference, but it has. I recommend getting a set.

My son had me get these for him, and he likes them alot. He says it improves accuracy while playing HALO... I don't play first person shooters so I never use them.

Honest reviews on FPS Freek Legendary by KontrolFreek

i have the original, legendary, and cqc along with these so i have tried quite a few. i have used them on the ps3 and 360 controllers. they plain out rock. i like the sniper more than the legendary just due to the symbol on the legendary feels kind of weird, they are the same thing otherwise. they dot work if you like playing on high sensitivities. well it really allows you to play on a higher sensitivity and it feels more controlled. i didn't think these would be that great but i got them and i love them. my favorite set up is the sniper on the aim stick and the cqc on the movement. (this is for fps games like mw3 and black ops ect) i love them and i am not sorry i bought multiple kinds the ones i didn't like i sold or gave to friends for christmas.

The KontrolFreek products are great! Installation is super simple. Don't let the initial feel discourage you, you'll play like crap for a few games. After you get use to them you will get more headshots and sniping is a breeze. If you play a wide variety of games I don't recommend these as they make many games more difficult. However, if you are a first person shooter fanatic get these. You will not regret it.

Shogun 2 is my favorite in the series, along with Rome. I skipped Empire, really didn't hear much good about it, but have played all the others.

A bit about myself so that you can see where I am coming from. Have been playing RPGs and wargames for 25+ years. Loved the early Civ games, not so much the later ones. Big multiplayer Quake and Doom fan, but dislike any type of real-time wargame that involves simultaneous combat & resource gathering (Rise of Nations, StarCraft...). Mostly looking for solo replay value, but will try online gaming. Read several history books about Japan as well as some James Clavell. Big into military history. Computer: 2011 MacBookPro under bootcamp Win7, 4 GB, mostly run at 1920x1200.

So what is there to like, after 3 tries, last one successful, and 77 hours of normal-level play?

Tactically: Gorgeous graphical update to the Total War series that keeps the same tried game mechanics and control. Reasonable AI that can quickly overwhelm you with aggressive infantry troops if you let it. It's pretty clever about archers now, protecting its own, attacking yours.

As usual, it's rock/paper/scissors, i.e. infantry/archers/horse. The AI is just better at it than before, so flanking is more difficult to carry off.

One annoyance is that you often have to babysit your units to keep them from engaging in melee: skirmishing archers do not always retreat, horsemen turn around and attack spearmen. That's probably fairly realistic for medieval/ancient battlefields though.

The generals have better-defined abilities, such as their command radius and the option to temporarily inspire/boost one given unit. My failure is using them too much as shock cavalry, especially before you get reasonable cavalry units => high mortality rate, historical accuracy.

Naval Combat !!! :-) Can be frustrating and not that well done, but a welcome addition nevertheless.

Auto-resolve is also much more reasonable than before. The AI fights relatively well on your behalf, so you can skip trivial battles.

Strategic: Early on, the AI definitely keeps you on your toes, a bit like Rome, but unlike Medieval II where it was much too passive. Later on, it seems like it gets a little less competitive as you get a better economic base and as your troops gain experience. In the endgame, I had to defeat a number of big armies, but none were very much of a challenge by that time and I had the initiative. This is not unlike Rome. That may not be a bad thing, the system doesn't "cheat" by levying opposing huge veteran armies from nowhere and they avoided gratuitous revolts like in Medieval I. So it doesn't stretch out the end game needlessly once you are dominant (a major reason why I disliked Civ after a while).

I love that strategic play is turn-based. Leaves you all the time to figure out how to tweak your economy and cities and you will need that planning.

Trade, diplomacy and special characters. I am still not too sure how diplomacy works, nobody seemed to like me after I gained a few provinces. Maybe, and that brings me to my next point, I used too many ninjas to be honorable? Ninjas are great fun if sufficiently experienced, they can easily kill enemy generals at no great cost or risk and taking out their 30 horse bodyguards is always a good way to shift the odds before joining a battle. They did become too easy to use after a while, the AI is not aggressive enough in going after your ninjas with its own ninjas or metsukes.

Power ups for named units like generals, monks and ninjas are great. You have all sorts of options to choose from, ranging from speeding up strategic movement to making units tougher in melee for a general. You could make a ninja into an escape artist or improve his assassination rank. So you can really customize your characters.

Trade is very very important, but tough to get right. Your allies may eventually come to dislike you as you gain power and cut off trade. Trade with remote powers (Ceylon, China, Korea, etc...) doesn't require diplomacy and is very lucrative, but it does require control of the trade points and the AI is pretty aggressive about that. I guess that if you levy large enough navies, including numerous trade ships (you can park up to 10 trade ships per trade point & you get $ for each one), you can fight off those attacks, but I don't know if that is an historically accurate approach for Japan.

Technology tree. You can aim for weapons techs or artistic/economic tech, with a wide variety of effects. So, for example, you could opt to boost your archers, boost your ninjas or collect more revenue with the same level of taxes. Again, lots of re-playability and exploration is possible because you'd struggle to get all techs in one game so you have to pick your emphasis.

All in all, I really recommend this game, 4.5/5. My main complaints, besides lack of sleep, are:

Steam. I don't like it. It doesn't bring me anything that I am aware of in solo-mode (patches are easy enough to download by web). If it cuts down on piracy, fine, but why isn't the game cheaper then? What if I wanted to gift the game to someone, but that person doesn't get into Shogun. I could take a CD back and pass it on to someone else, but I can't do that with Steam, can I? No, my complaints are not original.

******************************************************

Nov 2011 update: Steam now refuses to load the game, apparently because it can't connect to its servers. Their site's "helpful" instructions has some gobblygook about DirectX, DLLs & other arcana that would be total crypto to a casual gamer or non-techy. It is unacceptable to see Steam troubleshooting instructions, which are core to customers getting the value out of their purchases, posted in such a casual, blog-like and unstructured fashion. You'd think it was for a freeware product with no revenue.

Sure, I could reconfigure the install, but I needed the sleep so let it go.

Shame on you, Steam.

******************************************************

Load times are really, really, slow. That's both for the initial startup as well as for the setup before each battle.

Can't switch to other programs. Come on guys, I want to check my email. If I am on the turn-based strategic map, why stop me? This is so 1990-DOS. Plus, I would have liked the option to listen to NIN or Modest Mouse rather than Japanese chamber music!

I had a few recurring freezes on the same naval battle. Never got that to work, had to skip that battle. Mostly stable otherwise.

About a decade ago Shogun: Total War was the masterpiece that launched one of the best Strategy simulation franchises in gaming history. It was a perfectly balanced game that combined turn-based strategic decisions with real time battles in a beautiful interface made in the style of medieval Japanese artworks.

The game was based on the teachings of Sun Tzu, the Chinese strategist, who believed in the indirect approach: search for comparative advantages, use your forces with economy, surprise and deceive, and only fight limited wars. The medieval Japanese setting (relatively small armies made up from a limited number of distinct units fighting on different terrains), served as the perfect substrate to implement these strategies.

I have played every single Total War game since and they were all a joy to experience yet nothing surpassed to the first Shogun. Until now.

KNOW THY SELF, KNOW THY ENEMY. A THOUSAND BATTLES, A THOUSAND VICTORIES (Sun Tzu)

The gameplay has matured, deepened and acquired a number of new features, including some RPG additions. We now have Mastery of Arts, a tech tree branching into Bushido (warfare) and Chi (governance & finances). There are now hero units, inspiring the troops, going after the enemy general or turning the battle at that crucial point.

Generals are upgradable and modifiable, increasing their effectiveness and making them indispensable. The honorable death of a seasoned general will affect many aspects of your overall strategy and may prove the decisive point of the entire campaign. Which is why subterfuge is so important.

There may be no honor in using Ninjas but now they can assassinate the enemy general or soften up the enemy defenses by sabotaging their production or the integrity of their defensive structures. And because the Ninja knife cuts both ways, make sure to have enough Metsuke units to sniff out the ninjas send by the enemy.

Children serve as hostages to ensure cooperation whereas marriages are arranged to strengthen alliances. And since no army fights on an empty belly, one should make sure to set up complex trade agreements. Ones that will hold through the treacheries of war. Because sooner than later, your task will graduate from impossible to you-gotta-be-kidding-me.

INVINCIBILITY LIES IN THE DEFENSE; THE POSSIBILITY OF VICTORY IN THE ATTACK (Sun Tzu)

The AI will make your life miserable. Enemy units will try to flank you from every possible direction and they will try to make use of your troops movement in order to achieve this. And then, just when you think you are winning, every single clan and province turns against you...

It is possible to let the AI auto-resolve all battles and play the game as a highly sophisticated turn-based Civilization game but why miss all the fun?

Unlike the first game, SHOGUN 2 also has sea vessels and battles. While in a sea battle, you either board and take over or burn the enemy vessels. However, the real strategic consideration is this: when attacking a neighboring province, did you leave adequate defenses to prevent, say, the sacking of your own castle? Because the AI does not forgive such oversights.

OPPORTUNITIES MULTIPLY AS THEY ARE SEIZED (Sun Tzu)

The graphics and sounds of Shogun 2 are something one has to experience to believe. Even on DirectX 9 (WinXP which is the OS I am experiencing this on), the strategic map feels like flying over the real Sengoku period Japan whereas the game design goes into unbelievable details. Every ribbon on a set of armor, every blade of grass, every ray of light reflected on raised katanas or refracted through the clouds are just gorgeous.

The game absorbs you into its world and never let's go. In one word: Kan-Zen (Perfection).

HE WHO KNOWS WHEN HE CAN FIGHT AND WHEN HE CANNOT, WILL BE VICTORIOUS (Sun Tzu)

I usually deduct a full star from the final rating of any game that comes with any form of DRM that requires online activation or ties your game with digital shackles. Because even the retail version of SHOGUN 2 comes with mandatory STEAM, I did exactly that. However, because I rated the game well...above 5-stars, this could not become apparent and the game still rates a perfect score.

Yes, STEAM is the pheasant festering on the porch someone has to do something about. However, SHOGUN 2 is one of those extremely rare games that are worth their DRM hassle. If STEAM is still a deal-breaker for you, well, now you can make an informed decision either way.

SHOGUN 2 truly embodies The Art of War and it will stay with you for a very long time.

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

On a more sober note, I want to send my deepest sympathies to anyone in Japan hit by the latest earthquake and ensuing tsunami. Courage and endurance have always been characteristics of the Japanese psyche.

Best Deals for Total War: Shogun 2

My low rating is based entirely on steam and the update/patches -I don't know how the game plays, since I have not played it yet. I bought the limited Edition and opened my package and installed the two DVDs.

The game requires Steam registration, no problem. Then it installed = after installing around 14 Gig worth of data, it started to download the required updates. Normally this is a good thing. It is not a good thing when the size of the update is an additional 7 Gig.

I let the game update overnight, in the morning it was still updating, and finally it finished. Good news, now I could see a great game in action!! The game would not start. I left it alone initializing or doing whatever mystery process it was up to for a couple of hours. Then I stopped the process with it's cancel button and stopped steam. Started Steam up again and Lo and Behold, it started downloading a second update that is sized at 3.5 Gig. I got to about 1 and 1/2 Gib downloaded when I got the expected email from my service provided that I had exceeded my Fair Access Policy and that I needed to stop downloading data. (I'm not lucky enough for proper DSL or other typical broadband and must use Satellite (too bad for me).

Anyway, I put the download on pause and will continue it in another month or so. My negative review hopefully will keep some other poor fellow from making the same mistake that I did. WARNING, just because you can install from disk DOES NOT mean that the patches are of a reasonable size. Be warned, even if you have DSL or such, the update process will take hours. And if you are like me, the entire exercise will not be one that you seek to repeat!!!

Honest reviews on Total War: Shogun 2

Having just completed a weekend of marathon shogun Total War II playing, I have to say that it does not improve much on the original game. Sure the graphics are much better, but its been how many years, and how many Total War Releases since Shogun I came out?

The campaign game mechanics are basically the same as Empire and Napoleon Total war and are a great improvement over the original.

The new version employs the economic and technical development ladders we have come to know and love from Empires and Napoleon. The maps are superb. Where it falls flat is on the battlefield.

I find the new battles about as engaging as the original, and find myself stuck in the Gods eye view since the battles are so frenetic and fast paced, you can barely stay on top of the action, and a moments lapse will find you with units routing and a would be victory statched into the jaws of defeat. The tactical battlefield engine as it stands now is much better for the slugfests of 17 and 1800's when lines would stand and slug it out for a while before anything tactical decisive occurs.

Not so with Shogun II. With showers of arrows that come in torrents the likes of which Noah never witnessed an erstwhile steadfast and dependable unit can melt away in an instant and do its best impression of an Iraqi army unit leaving Kuwait...

Oh, yeah, the Japanese troops in Shogun II must all be marathon runners, as they can cover miles and miles at a run without having to so much as pause for a breather...

The graphic sprites are cool, but Like I said, you have very little chance to zoom in and enjoy them, if you do, you risk losing the battle pretty quickly.

Fortress seiges are pretty lame, as defensive units standing under roofed ramparts still get pin cushiond pretty quickly. I think for this, the game developers took too much inspiration from Kurizawa's cinemagrapic masterpiece RAN, . Even the music sounds lifted from the soundtrack.

Don't get me wrong, if this 55 year old wargamer/software professional can sit for 12 hours at a stretch playing the game and not even get up to eat, the game is engaging. I was just expecting something new.

Its just Empires and Napoleon speaking Japanese and wearing pretty armor. It does offer nice new naval battles that the original didn't. The AI is better tuned and isn't so much a Risk game type experience as the first was. Tactically, I didn't find it that much improved.

After a touch and go first 10 turns or so, I had Kyushu to myself and now am one of the Big Kids on the block. I have all the trade routes under my control and am well buffered by smaller provinces between me and the other big Daimyos, allowing me to build up for Armagedon.

I won't say the AI on tactical cheats, but the effectiveness of some arms seem out of sync with reality, but we can leave the Modders to fix that.

I think they should have taken the Engine into the American Civil War, but that probably does not sell as well in Europe as it does here in the US.

All in all, its fun, but don't look for much in the way of "NEW" stuff, just the same in a different costume.

First, a brief overview of the game: it takes place (obviously) in Feudal Japan. You take the helm as Daimyo as one of the great clans, with the goal of ultimately becoming Shougn of all Japan. Turn length is a hybrid between classic (Rome, Medieval 2, Empire) total war titles and that of Napoleon: turns are shorter than a half year but longer than 2 weeks -they are exactly one season long.

As a personal fan of total war games, having played and enjoyed Rome, Medieval 2, Empire, and Napoleon, I of course enjoyed this release as well. First, I was excited about a game that had melee-heavy combat of Rome and Medieval 2 with the superior graphics of Empire and Napoleon. In this regard, Shogun 2 did not disappoint. The graphics are slightly improved over Empire/Napoleon the biggest difference (with the exception of the campaign map, as discussed later on) as far as I can tell is tessellation and other Direct X11 features, which do make a small difference, but not a huge difference, in my book and the combat is, indeed, melee-focused. It also continued the realism feature from Empire and Napoleon of having de-centralized provinces (one "village" will be a smith, another a "stoneworker," and the "capital" a castle town) and not requiring diplomats to be recruited and sent to initiate diplomatic relations. It also continued the automatic troop replenishment and accompanying attrition features from Napoleon, both of which I very much appreciate.

On the other hand, there are some obvious drawbacks to this game, though I have to say I was expecting them before I bought it. First, obviously, there is very little variety. This seems to be a continuation of what I consider to be a slightly unsettling trend in the Total War series: Rome had almost too much unit variety, Medieval 2 just about the right amount (though some kingdoms had too few), and Empire/Napoleon had few differences, mostly just different names and different skins. In Shogun 2, the various "Great Clans" you can play in the grand campaign do have unique features. For example, the Takeda clan excel at cavalry (as the French were *alleged* to have done in Medieval 2), and certainly the cavalry they can recruit have higher stats; similarly the Shimazu clan has slightly better heavy (katana) infantry when compared with the other clans. But these differences and in a sense here, the lack of variety of units in this game is an inverted mirror image of the similar lack in Empire/Napoleon amount to merely unit stat differences: the skins are virtually unaltered. In Medieval 2, by contrast, you could be pretty sure who you were fighting just from the look of the enemy units on the battlefield; even more so with Rome. In Shogun 2, however, there is almost no way to tell, other than the color of the flags held by soldiers. Of course, this effect is amplified due to the narrow-focus of the game (those who found Empire to be too broad will find Shogun 2 extremely refreshing) after all, it only deals with feudal Japan, and this is what I expected in the first place. In the same vein, the map is rather small. Whereas Rome and Medieval 2 almost felt like a mini-RPG the first time through the campaign, with new lands and civilizations to discover, and Empire with its gigantic, nearly unruly map, Shogun 2 almost feels claustrophic. Again, what one should expect.

The campaign map, however, makes up for this by having vastly superior graphics vs. even Napoleon and Empire. Although the graphics on the battle map are barely improved over Napoleon and Empire, the campaign map is truly 3D, and Spring Time in particular is absolutely stunning. The mountains really jump out of the screen at you, birds fly right in front of your eyes, and towns (finally) look "realistic" on the campaign map (versus, eg, the jumbled colorful boxes of Empire). The battle map, on the other hand, is not too much a departure from Empire and Napoleon, even if you run the game in DX11. Sea battles are back, and unlike in Empire and Napoleon, they involve more of a "melee" aspect -no more cannons absolutely smashing the hull of a smaller ship. In Empire, one could take a second rate and just leave it on autofire against a couple fifth rates and, if you left the room and came back, you would have a chance of winning. Not the case in these sea battles. Some ships are bigger and better than others, but there are no true "monsters."

An improvement upon older TW titles is the leveling of agents, generals, and other characters. For instance, I found it rather annoying in Medieval 2 that if my assassin missed his target but survived, he might LOSE some of his ability to carry out assassinations. In Shogun 2, as long as he isn't killed, your ninja will still gain some positive experience, albeit less than for a successful assassination/sabotage/etc. Once enough experience is gained, you have a bunch of traits to pick from, almost as though he were a character in an RPG game. The same goes for generals, geishas, monks, metsuke... even your Daimyo! Additionally, within family management, you can *finally* decide who will be your Daimyo's heir, who will get which "commission" (similar to ministers, except instead of random "candidates" of Empire and Napoleon, you have your generals and family members to select from).

One thing that is worth mentioning, however, is that Shogun 2 appears to have issues with Nvidia SLI technology (I have two GTX 580s in SLI). There are some minor but annoying glitches that occur when SLI is enabled. No big deal, just disable SLI, but its a pity that SLI can't be used to pump even more graphical horsepower into the game. From what I've read in forums (though I don't have ATI cards), Shogun 2 works fine with Crossfire.

All in all, a good, though in a certain sense a rather limited, game. If you are a fan of total war, and don't care about cultural differences/unit appearance differences between different groups, or a small map, then you will love this game; even if you do, in my opinion, this is still a good game worth playing.
