Scene It: Box Office Smash Xbox 360 Bundle Reviews
The wife, kids, and I LOVE Scene It games! I saw this one with the Scene It controllers for just $19 and I had to get it!I like this game and there are plenty of game variations during the rounds. The reason I only gave it four stars is because it asks the same questions and shows the same scenes most of the time we play it and there really aren't any recent movies (most are from the 80s or 90s). EVen with those two flaws, my family still has fun playing it.
Microsoft Flight Simulator X Standard DVD - PC Review
Let me get something of my chest first. I have noticed a lot of bad feedback on reviewers who give higher ratings to products that are developed by Microsoft. So just to make it clear I am not reviewing Microsoft, I'm reviewing the simulator.
So.. how fun is this game? Well it's your system that can actually answer this question. This game is amazing from my point of view. I have used everything, from FS98 to latest X-Plane.. and nothing is as good as this.
The Good:
Stunning graphics. This is the most beautiful game I have ever played. From the water effects to shadows from the plane.. every effect and particle is breathtaking.
Gameplay. It is an amazing gameplay, indeed. You can now fly in any seat you like, control literally any view of the airplane, most of the cockpit controls work and function the way they are supposed to. The weather system is amazing.
Multiplayer. This one speaks for itself: FUN FUN FUN. It is very entertaining since you get to see people from all over the world. However, there are few cons.. like the Bad ATC guys who often mislead you and cause you to crash etc. It was foggy, so I depended on A/P. I was told to turn 074R, which I did. I heard the ILS Frequency so I put it on APP but ultimately, I was put into wrong direction and as much as APP fought to align me to the right direction (while keeping up with sped and altitude) i still landed in the ocean.. and of course crashed (since you're not able to actually land on water in this game). Of course, there are plenty of pefect ATC's out there but even with few that are not as good it's still VERY fun to play. Try it and see for yourself.
The Bad:
ATC. ATC has not changed much from FS2004 other than a new "window" that it displays in. Still no ability to declare an emergency which is sort of a disappoint since you ARE able to set engines to fail or to run out of fuel (or both). So.. if your engines die out on you don't you think you deserve a right to report the situation to ATC? LOL
Crash dynamics. If you're hoping to be able to crash your plane into a mountain and see a giant explosion and earthquakes then I have to disappoint you. While I almost never crash in Flight Sims I still wish there were better crashing dynamics to make it more realistic. For example, if I land heavily on my nose I'd love to see my plane's nose gear to fail and act like it would in physics.
Also, why can't we have the ability to land on water? Boeing 737 CAN do that (if propely executed). Here, no matter what amazing pilot you are.. as soon as you touch the water you crash. Oh well. It's a very small thing but I wish it was improved a bit.
The Ugly:
System requirements. I agree with what many reviewers said this game depends more on CPU than it does on video card. This game will most likely NOT work at the Max settings if you have a brand-name PC (eMachines, HP, Dell).
When I first installed the game I had AMD Sempron 3300 (2.01GHz); 2GB DDR, Radeon X1650 Pro with 512MB. I ran the CanYouRunIT tool from System Requirements Lab.. the report said that I exceed RECOMMENDED requirements and should have a great experience with the game. I didn't really believe that since I have a 3rd class CPU but I played FS2004 and HL2 on the HIGHEST settings with absolutely NO lags so I thought it would work fine.
I was.. wrong. The game was not playable unless I set all of the aircraft, transport and texture settings to Minnimum Low. It lagged horribly on my native resolution of 1680x1050 32 which I had to put into 1440x900 16bit.
I purchased a new video card which is Geforce GTX 8800 with 740mb of RAM and can now play without any lags on my native resolution with settings set to Medium High but still not maxed out. Why? Because this game needs CPU. In this case, the CPU is the heart not the video card. If you buy it make sure to get the SP1 for this ASAP.. there are few performance updates which could be crucial if your video card or CPU isn't the best.
So to wrap up I highly recommend this simulator to any Aerolover as myself. But make sure you have a GOOD CPU and card. If you have them you'll find yourself spending hours and hours flying above gorgeous landscapes, commmunicating with people all over the world, surviving a dead engine and/or faulty mechanics and generally having fun. This amazing software is both entertaining and educational.
Each version is usually a year or so ahead of existing hardware, which basically means that you will not be able to achieve the maximum performance with your one-year-old computer even if you think you got a great system. If you search the flight sim forums you will read how even those with gaming machines complain about not enough frame rates or hi resolution scenery or stutters during flying. Here is what I have:
Microsoft® Windows Vista(tm) Home Premium
System Manufacturer Dell Inc.
System Model Inspiron 531
Processor AMD Athlon(tm) 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 4400+, 2310 Mhz, 2
Total Physical Memory 2,045.88 MB
Available Physical Memory 1.33 GB
Total Virtual Memory 4.21 GB
Available Virtual Memory 3.53 GB
Page File Space 2.29 GB
Video Card NVIDIA GeForce 6200 LE
SATA 260 Gig Hard Drive
If I set all display sliders to Medium High I get very smooth frame rates of 20-25 FPS with very nice scenery resolution. If I put all sliders to Ultra High my machine almost comes to a stand still. This really is normal for Flight Sim. So unless you have a computer twice as powerful as mine do not expect maximum performance from this sim. At that level it would be like you were flying in the real world.
.....................
You might ask if I am so satisfied with FSX why do I give it only 3 stars.
Allow me to explain as best I can. Microsoft has done something that I find a bit upsetting. I have been playing with adding scenery and aircraft to Flight Sim for years. I have Flight Simulator Design Studio Ver 3.5 and EZ-Scenery both programs I paid for and that was OK since they are great programs for enhancing the scenery in Flight Sim. I also use lots of other freeware utilizes to help in modeling scenery. All these programs rely on a set of Microsoft development tools called SDK. You really do not need to know what the details of these are other than you need them on your computer to use all these other modeling programs. Up until now these tools SDK were free from Microsoft except with FSX. I purchased the "STANDARD" version with out even considering this issue of obtaining the SDK tools for FSX; I just assumed the "DELUXE" version was more expensive because it had more Aircraft and more Airports with greater detail. Infact if you read what the difference id between the two that is exactly the impression you get.
I installed the STANDARD version with no problem than started to use my other software for adding and modifying scenery and lo and behold. The programs asked where FSX SDK tools were.
Well I did not know so I researched the subject and was told it was on Disk one and had to be installed separately. So I looked on disk one and no SDK tools. Than I found out it ONLY COME ON THE DELUXE VERSION.
No problem I said, just go to Microsoft's web site and download the FSX SDK just like I have done with previous versions. Now I find out that you cannot get this set of tools unless you buy the "DELUXE" version. So no what. I now need to get the DELUXE VERSION. You can download the PATCH for SDK but not the original set of tools.
If you do plan on modeling and modifying the scenery of FSX DO NOT BUY THE STANDARD VERSION. If any one out there can show me I am in error please do. But so far I have found 12 incidences of other persons buying the STANDARD version and finding out they should have bought the "DELUXE" version because they needed the FSX SDK for their other designing software.
Personally I think this is one big rip off from Microsoft but I did buy the DELUXE version even though I had initially purchased the STANDARD version and will use FSX because it is in fact a good product. Because I think this was a deliberated deception to force users to buy the deluxe version instead of the standard version I can only give three stars.
Graphics-wise, Flight Simulator X is a great improvement over Flight Simulator 2004. You may now see animals on the ground and traffic on major highways, depending on the age and quality of your graphics card. Make sure you have a DVD-ROM drive, because FSX is a gigantic game and takes up two DVDs. In comparison, FS2004 took up the equivalent of about half of a single-sided DVD.
One can make almost any decision they want in Flight Simulator X, from using the provided Air Traffic Control feature to choosing to make your experience as realistic as possible. Veteran FS gamers will feel instantly at home with FSX, mostly because the general look and feel remains untouched. Its only flaw is that it is not fully enjoyable unless you spend an extra twenty dollars or so for a joystick. Even so, you can still use a keyboard and mouse to control the plane. As a side note, the deluxe DVD is not much of an improvement over the standard version. Really, the only added feature is more aircraft.
Since it also is compatible with Windows Vista (provided you have met all of the requirements), I recommend that you go out and buy it today for yourself or an aspiring pilot.
I can still overpower my CPU if I run the graphics detail to full on all settings (and it looks damn good when I do) but running at the default settings or a little higher is not a problem.
I appreciate the ability to adjust individual graphics settings. This allows me to distribute the power to graphics which are of the most importance to my desired gaming experience.
On a side note, after I loaded a clean version of XP and verified the game ran properly, I then began to load my other applications into the new OS load. BTW I have most of the apps loaded again. The one app that had the most negative performance impact was Norton Internet Security. I use McAfee now and keep it at minimum settings.
Most importantly, I discovered my system registry had tons of old entries from previous installed drivers and apps. Once I installed a clean OS, my boot time decreased by 50% and other applications ran much faster.
I blame the performance problem on me not keeping my system and registry clean.
Then I purchased the Standard version of FSX and installed it. I think this game is fantastic. The experience is challenging and educational. I enjoy flying over areas that I have visited in real life and seeing the details the developers put into recreated real-world locations.
Intel recently announced their quad-core processors. At some point in the future, I will upgrade. I am thrill to know when my system is upgraded; my FSX experience will take advantage of that upgrade and provide an ongoing better experience. Since the game has very detailed adjustments so you can run it on slower machines, in my opinion, it makes the game future-ready so you can play now and enhance later. Others may disagree with this line of thinking.
Cleaning your system may also solve the installation issue that some are experiencing. This sounds like driver issues. However I don't know for certain because I didn't have that issue with my install.
I hope this information is helpful to others.
i was disappointed by the performance and contemplated returning the game. but what microsoft has done here is produced a next generation flight simulator. did we really want another fs2004? i tried the game on another system which had an ATI X1650XT, which is relatively old, but a lot newer than my 9800PRO. the game ran well with medium settings at 1024x768 (>30fps), acceptable at 1280x1024, and barely playable at 1600x1200.
i ended up building a new system (it was overdue anyway), and have been playing on an 8800GTS, which gives 25-35 fps at 1600x1200x32 with the highest quality settings. there are a couple guides on the internet that provide tips/tweaks for increasing performance, particularly on older systems. here is one of them:i have to say that the graphics are phenomenal. microsoft intends on releasing a direct x 10 patch in the next few months, which should improve the quality and performance even more on vista.
as far as game play, i haven't noticed any major changes. the full set of lessons from fs2004 still exist, but now there are missions you can fly for practice. i don't recall how detailed the pilot record tracking was in fs2004, but it is awesome in fsx--tracking landings, hours, and certifications/awards from completing lessons and missions. the introduction of multiplayer play in fsx has been quite fun as well.
i highly recommend this game, with the caveat that you should test the demo (free download from microsoft's site) to see how well it performs. this game is a beast and requires a nice system with a nice graphics card, but you won't be disappointed in the results!

Let me start this review by saying that FSX is really a great product with much growth potential for future development. I have been using Flight Sim from the early days of the Commodore 64. I have purchased every version since it was created. Every version starts a bit rough but between updated patches and some tweaking it performs beautifully. Each version is usually a year or so ahead of existing hardware, which basically means that you will not be able to achieve the maximum performance with your one-year-old computer even if you think you got a great system. Best Deals for Microsoft Flight Simulator X Standard DVD - PC
Microsoft Flight Simulator X is the tenth editon to the Flight Simulator franchise, and it certainly delivers. Like previous installments, FSX puts you in the cockpit as a pilot for any number of aircraft, including Boeing 747s and the LearJet 45. New this year, however, is an Airbus A321 and an AirCreation Trike Ultralight (think of a waterski with wings and wheels attached). Flight Simulator 2004 had many commemorative aircraft for the one hundredth anniversary of flight, but these are gone for FSX. I wasn't really bothered by the removal, although some will be disappointed that you can't recreate the Wright Brothers' Kittyhawk flight anymore.Graphics-wise, Flight Simulator X is a great improvement over Flight Simulator 2004.

Honest reviews on Microsoft Flight Simulator X Standard DVD - PC
Before I purchased Standard FSX, I downloaded and ran the trial version. Like others that have posted, I was very disappointed in the performance. At first I was thinking it was my graphics card (ATI Radeon X800XL, 256MB) so I ran the game with Task Manager Performance Monitor displayed. I discovered that my CPU was max'ing. This didn't make sense because I felt that I had plenty of processing power (Pentium D 2.80GHz, 512 RAM) and the game was not consuming more than 40% of the memory. So I loaded a second clean install of XP and loaded only my drivers and then the game. Bingo! The game ran great.I can still overpower my CPU if I run the graphics detail to full on all settings (and it looks damn good when I do) but running at the default settings or a little higher is not a problem.

i received fsx as a gift for christmas. i've owned fs2002 and fs2004, and am relatively familiar with the game. first of all, as clearly stated in the product title and specs, the game comes on dvd format only. i had no problems installing it on my dell dimension 4800 (P4-3.2, 2GB ram, ATI 9800PRO). however, the new FSX is definitely a beast. with all the quality settings turned down and running at 1024x768x16, i got < 15 fps so the gameplay was unacceptably choppy. i have read that with all the settings turned down you should get similar performance as fs2004.i was disappointed by the performance and contemplated returning the game. but what microsoft has done here is produced a next generation flight simulator. did we really want another fs2004? i tried the game on another system which had an ATI X1650XT, which is relatively old, but a lot newer than my 9800PRO. the game ran well with medium settings at 1024x768 (>30fps), acceptable at 1280x1024, and barely playable at 1600x1200.

Nephew just turned 8 and is learning the ways of Family Football Fanaticism. :) As a birthday gift to go with his game system nothing could be better. He said it clipped right on and feels just fine. Very neat product. Great idea to personalize "his" controller when his friends come over to play.

Xbox 360 Resident Evil Faceplate and Skinz - Characters Review
The graphics for the faceplate and skinz are really clear and detailed, and are of good quality. I think the faceplate and skinz will ultimately look better on the black Xbox 360 Elite system, since the graphics are not large enough to wrap around the white or red systems.I have the black elite system and this product looks great on there. Hope this review was helpful.I wish they were just a bit bigger you can still see white around the edges but the images were really good looking. Nice crisp high quality pictures.

This is a basic spaceship game where you fly around destroying objects.
No saving functions, just 3 lives and game over when you die 3 times, and that's frustrating. It took forever but I finally destroyed the first boss using dodging tactics to defeat him.
I never got farther than the third level, where ground level tanks are waiting to blast you.a very basic shoot-'em-up with only 6 stages. i found it fairly easy with the exception of the 4th boss which is annoyingly difficult. after you beat it there's a hard mode with more bullets but not all that much harder. as an early game boy game it's not bad, but there are a lot better shoot-'em-ups, even for game boy.

Sure these look great compared to the drab white or black controllers; however, the screwdriver included with the kit doesn't work very well and easily strips the screws...(be carefull). Be warned also that the finish does wear of with usage... heavy gamer myself and the chrome finishes started to wear off to a white spot in about 2 months.

I was a bit apprehensive about getting this game I knew for fact that I'd get it, since I loved the original so much, but I was worried that the absence of Ken Levine would be too obvious on its story. However, I kinda ignored the voice in the back of my head, and decided to get the game anyway. When the 'more of the same' reviews started coming in, I wasn't disappointed; I loved the original game enough not to mind going through a very similar the game again (I played through Bioshock two or three times; each time finding something new in the game, or the story).
The beginning of Bioshock 2 seemed promising. It's certainly impossible to top the beginning of BS1 (the whole segment up to the exit from the bathysphere is classic), but there was a lot of promise in the presentation of the new antagonist of the game, including the shrines you find here and there, and the occasional communist drivel she spouts. Once you reach near the end, however, you begin to realize that there's really not much of a twist in terms of a plot. The ending(s) is predictable, at best. In the grand scheme of things, Lamb is barely touched upon; enough to make you wonder why she was chosen as an antagonist. Many of the characters you meet in the game seem transient; the last conflict with Sinclair is almost laughable in its brevity and insignificance. In short, the story of Bioshock 2 doesn't hold a candle to that of the first game.
On to gameplay.
The Big Sisters, which seemed to hold so much promise before the game's release are nothing but another enemy one almost impossible to beat without dying at least early in the game on Medium and Hard. No real story is presented to explain their existence, short of a silly blurb about them being Little Sisters in a specialized suit.
The underwater levels promised early on are nothing but brief stretches of linear path, and not deserving much mention.
The Big Daddy drill is an interesting weapon in the new arsenal, but it lacks in two serious aspects: a) the drill dash is not available until later on in the game, and this move is often crucial for survival, and b) unlike the wrench, it requires "ammunition", which is often scarce to come by, especially on higher difficulty levels. You are pretty much guaranteed to drain the drill's ammo in any serious fight; therefore, you cannot depend on it in any mediumto large-scale fights.
The variety of new weapons offered in the game is great, but you'll soon learn that you really need the drill, the shotgun, and the rocket launcher. The rivet gun becomes useless almost from the beginning even headshots hardly scathe the opponents.
The music! One of the best parts of Bioshock is the music, as it sets the mood perfectly. In Bioshock 2, music is barely heard in five or six locations throughout the game. I have heard more old-timey music waiting for the game to load, than I have throughout the entire game; making me wonder why 2K even bothered licensing the songs.
That said, the game does make some good gameplay changes, including the spear gun, which is a fun weapon reminiscent of the one in Half-Life 2. Hacking is better, if not much more realistic, as now you need to hack as you play. While the underwater moments are all-too-brief, there are a few scenes which are beautiful and deserving a lot more attention, than that given. Another excellent addition was the view of the world through the eyes of a Little Sister if you ever wondered why they refer to the splicers as 'angels', this part in the game makes the reason all-too clear.
All said, I'm far more disappointed by the lack of a solid story in this game, than I am by the elements of gameplay. Living up to the original is not an easy task, and while I didn't expect the same level of innovation from this one, what I did get, I expected a sequel that desperately cried out for the attention of the author of the original.
As an addendum-I can find no issue technically with the gameI think it's running on the same Unreal engine as the first, and I believe that was pretty maxed out in the first one so there was likely not room for substantial improvements. The new plasmids aren't really as cool as the ones in the original game either, as they seem more practical (maybe not a complaint, but being able to go vertical just isn't as sweet as shooting bees at a guy). Graphics were good, sound was just as immersive as Bioshock 1, technically I really didn't have any problems with the game. I stand by the 5 I give it for fun, but I can only really give it a 4 because it just doesn't invoke that same sense of ingenuity I got in the first game.
PROS:
-CHOICES, CHOICES, CHOICES: One of the aspects, gamers loved about the original is how you have to make choices in terms of litter sister throughout the game and how it affects the ending. In this one, they have taken a step further and improved this choice system. Not only for little sisters, but also for some other things you will have to make choices. This choices will affect the story (dialogues, cut scenes and ending) to a great degree and add decent replayability to the single player mode.
-MYSTERIOUS STORY: The story is suspenseful. It is not as good as the first one, but is still pretty good and will really drive you forward in the game. If you played Bioshock 1, it is certainly a plus; however, certainly not a requirement. Even if you did not play the original, you will be able to understand most of it.
-AMAZING UNDERWATER VISUAL ANG GRAPHICS: The city looks as stunning if not better as Bioshock 1. Better yet in this one you get to play UNDERWATER. While it may not sound as thrilling it truly adds great deal of feeling to the gameplay experience.
-PLAYING AS BIG DADDY: Initially you will be somewhat confused, but this gets to be real fun. You can still use plasmids as in the original, but you get access to heavy duty weapons as you are playing as big daddy. I won't spoil much for you but YOU WILL LOVE THE SPEAR GUN :)
-NEW WEAPONS, PLASMIDS and TONICS: In this game, you get access to all the cool plasmids from the original, but you also get to use some new mysterious plasmids and tonics. Expecially, if you decide to go for good ending, you will get some really cool plasmids. As for weapons, you will just love the big guns. Trust me on it.
-NEW ENEMIES and BOSSES: I don't want to spoil it so I will just say big sisters will make you wet your pants.
-FOUR ALTERNATE ENDINGS: Again refer to choices section
-EPIC MULTIPLAYER: This game offers a very unique multiplayer. It was a wonderful break from games like Modern Warfare 2. The modes such as capture the little sisters can be fun. Just wait till you play as a Big Daddy. The power you get will truly be intoxicating. Oh did I mention you can use very different plasmids than single player in multiplayer mode.
My only complain for this one was instead of focusing on multiplayer, they should have just focused on single player and made it longer. Don't get me wrong , it will still take you a while to go through it (8-12hrs depending on how much you decide to collect).
In summary, to me, Bioshock 2 lived up to the standards. It was enjoyable and has great replay value.

Bioshock, when it came out 2 years ago, completely reinvented the way I'd played first person shooters (I had never played System Shock 2). Diving into the sea, into a world eerily familiar to mid-20th century America was one of the most blindingly original, involving experiences I ever had with a controller. My main problem with Bioshock 2 is that this feeling of originality never returns. Despite what the designers do, this new main villain Sofia Lamb just doesn't strike the same terror at Andrew Ryan did and fighting splicers and other big daddies from the other perspectivethat of a big daddy--just isn't as exciting or new as i would expect. The game feels so much like more of the same, and for that I give it fun factor of 5, because it builds on a brilliant foundation, but overall i feel its lack of originality compared to the original earns it only 4.As an addendum-I can find no issue technically with the gameI think it's running on the same Unreal engine as the first, and I believe that was pretty maxed out in the first one so there was likely not room for substantial improvements. Best Deals for Bioshock 2 - Xbox 360
Returning to Rapture was refreshing, at first. Bioshock 2 is a good game but not a good sequel. If you are looking for a game that will continue what you experienced in the first game look no further because there isn't one. Without giving any spoilers Bioshock 2 is just a story about the induced relationship between the protectors (big daddies) and little sisters (this is discovered in the very beginning). Splicers have become more advanced, they are both stronger and a bit smarter. Using the drill as a weapon is amazing and absolutely a plus side. There are many other great aspects in the game but I don't want to ruin it. The game gets a little slow in the middle and it is significantly shorter than the first installation but don't let that discourage you, the game has some great gameplay!Honest reviews on Bioshock 2 - Xbox 360
I did not buy this game on the day of its release, as so many people were complaining Bioshock series lost its magic in Bioshock 2. The Rapture city doesn't feel as novel anymore. But now that I have played through with it TWICE, I have to say these folks were dead wrong. Yes, the city, some of the villians and gameplay are similar, but that is why this game is labeled Bioshock 2 and not a new IP. Either way below are the pros and cons for the Bioshock2PROS:
-CHOICES, CHOICES, CHOICES: One of the aspects, gamers loved about the original is how you have to make choices in terms of litter sister throughout the game and how it affects the ending. If you like games with good stories then you will like this game. I don't think it was quite as much fun as the first one, but its still a really good game. If you enjoy action/adventure games like resident evil, halo, mass effect then you will really enjoy this game.Thursday, August 21, 2014

Review of Digimon World
This is the ultimate game! THE coolest ever. Your mission is to raise and train your own Digimon to save the Digital World by returning Digimon who have "lost their hearts" to File City. There are days, years, many new Digimon (at least from the ones I know) and awesome battles! About a MILLION times better than Pokemon. And you won't get tired of it either. Only one flaw... There is no Mega Level Digimon. (Besides HerculesKabuterimon, but he's listed as an ultimate and even the Game's Guide doesn't tell you how to get H-Kabuterimon.) If you're hoping it's like the T.V. series...Don't hope... It's noting like it. But Its still awesome. If you like Digimon and own Play Station, BUY THIS GAME RIGHT NOW! Plus, I implore (strongly encourage) you to also buy the Game guide. I will help you a LOT! I read some reviews and saw that this would be a pretty cool game, but when I first played it, it blew me away! WOW!This is one of the best games for the Playstation game console! You could go on for hours just playing this game! There aren't many new Digimon, pretty much the ones you've seen in the movie and show. The object of the game is to recruit the Digimon that are scattered around the Digiworld. The cause of them running away is Analogmon. After you recruit all the digimon you have to face him and three other bosses. Even though it says there are no Megas in this game, there are but only two. They are HerculesKabuterimon and Phoenixmon but they are listed as Ultimates. In the game guide it doesn't say how to get them but I'll tell you. You need to recruit Greymon and then he'll open up an arena, then you need to beat a certain tournament in the arena and the prize is "Beetlepearl" or "Red Ruby". Use them on a Champion form digimon and it'll digivolve into H-Kabuterimon(via Beetlepearl) or Phoenixmon(via Red Ruby)!

I finished Far Cry 2, including most of the side missions. The guys that gave it 1-star reviews only played it for an hour or two. My played time was about 40 hours.
The graphics and the environmental sounds in this game are stellar. It's a full world, with day and night, animals (zebra, buffalo, gazelles, chickens, goats, and other flying birds), weather (shifting wind that picks up before a rainstorm), and fire that spreads and burns things. In this world, you can drive cars, Jeeps, trucks, boats and hang-gliders. There are no loading screens as you travel the 5x5 kilometer map.
And the parts of the world react to your presence. Animals run. Plants bend over as you walk on them. Grass sways in the wind. When you shoot, you hear your spent brass landing in the grass. Everything has a shadow that moves with it. It's incredibly well-done.
In the PS3 version, there were some graphical glitches, including basically all the things you always hear about: aliasing, tearing, pop-in, and occasionally slowing frame-rate. Overall, graphics were great though and these glitches are familiar.
The game is a shooter. There are dozens of weapons you can unlock. If you don't like the recoil on the starting weapon, you can buy a much better one.
There are about 85 total missions. Many of them can be done more than one way. It IS repetitive though. Generally, you're going to shoot someone or retrieve something or both. I'm not sure what people were expecting here, but it would have been nice if there were more variety.
The story is unexpected. You play a guy in a situation. There aren't a lot of real choices to be made. And it's a civil war so the choices you do have aren't very good ones. It's like Grand Theft Auto in this way -don't play it if you always have to be the good guy. Overall, I'd say the story is only ok-to-good. But it wasn't predictable and there was a satisfying pay-off at the end.
Good things about the game:
Graphics
Environmental sounds
Weather
Malaria I liked what it added to the story. (Other reviewers thought it was annoying.)
Swamp boats
Weapon variety
Length 40+ hours is a good value
Story ending
Dialogue
Buddy rescues for continues.
Medium things:
Voice-acting Could have been better. It was recorded in South Africa so the accents were authentic. Needed a separate control for voice volume versus shooting volume. And the actors talked a little too fast.
Few cut scenes I like cut scenes.
You don't play a good guy.
Characters weren't individual enough.
Bad things about the game:
Soundtrack it added nothing. It wasn't annoying, but what a huge missed opportunity.
Getting attacked at every crossroads by guards
Too much driving (But this isn't as bad as the other reviewers say. It seems bad for the first 60 minutes of the game, but after that you realize you can ride the bus or drive a boat.)
Mission variety
Wacky reasons behind some of the missions
Graphical glitches
Some bugs Guys would die and stay crouched. Game crashed a could of times. And vehicles jumped to kill me once or twice. Overall bugs were rare.
Shooting realistic-looking guys in the face might not be best for kids.
Overall, it was an amazing game. I'm glad I played it. There are games that are more fun. There are games with better stories. There are certainly games with better soundtracks. But this game had a wonderful world and an intriguing story. I hope Ubisoft comes out with another African adventure set in a world like this. I'll buy it.
The minimal gamer data intrusions on-screen allow for much more of a feeling of entering the African world. On a widescreen HD TV, this is absolutely breathtaking.
Specific game play details are widely available, but I am very satisfied with the array of weapons, confrontations, variable character behavior for repeat play and startling action set-pieces.
The fact that day becomes night, the weather changes, fires left unattended can burn out of control and that weapons age and fall apart over time enhances all elements of this absolutely terrific game. Hard to imagine areas for improvement on this one given the premise.
And let me say again the terrain for open exploration is huge. Must be about 20 square miles of savannah and jungle. That is very big for a seamless open and widely variegated naturalistic landscape.
The mission is simple. You're a bounty hunter looking for an arms dealer equipping both sides of a bloody (tribal?) war.
Oh yes, here's the coolest thing of all. There's a fantastic Map Editor that allows you to design your own level. Yes, create a world of rivers, plains, jungles and structures. There are over a thousand choices! And then you and your friends can enter it for game play.
Highly recommended. This world is hard to leave...
(1) Graphically, it's incredible. One of the best I've seen.
(2) It's got tight controls and it's fun to kill things
(3) The story seems immersive
But then after a few hours you notice:
(1) The story's not that immersive.
(2) While the fighting is fun, it's super-repetitive. This is why the game should be avoided. To be honest 99% of your missions are to go scout an area, or kill a guy, or take over an outpost, but they don't feel any different because this is how it plays out:
You get your mission, you spend 3 or 4 minutes driving to the mission, you encounter an outpost and have to kill everybody in it, drive 3 or 4 more minutes, then get to your mission point and kill everybody. That's fun to do for the first couple of times. But then you realize, that's the whole game until the last mission. I'm not kidding, it gets boring really fast. You get another mission, drive, kill people, drive to mission, kill, boring, boring, boring.
It's a shame because the game does look incredible. And it truly is fun for about 2 hours. Don't waste your money. But if you have to feed your OCD and play the game, buy it on eBay for less than $20 if possible. That's how I did it and I'm glad.
My update 11-08-2008 After playing this title for a couple weeks I am continued to be impressed! There are a few multiplayer issues that I would like to talk about. When playing "Ranked" games and running a lobby the room doesn't carry over to the next map. Everyone gets kicked (except the host) and goes to new rooms and continue that cycle. There is NO team/clan support so finding the room your friends are in doesn't assure you will be on the same team and there's NO option to change that. You can carry over the room from map to map in "Player" but when that room closes your rank will be reset due to your stats not counting. "Ranked" is the mode that keeps your stats and weapons earned but its easier to play with friends on "player" so that kinda sucks! I messaged Ubi about these issues that everyone is complaining about and they said they were aware of the problem and trying to fix it ASAP! Even with these complaints I still give this title 5 out of 5 because it is that good!!! Don't believe these idiots who are giving it 1 star, they are just trying to bring down the score because they wanted another COD 4! The controls in this game are different (not button configuration but response) than COD 4 but once you adjust your gameplay it works great! Its a poor musician that blames his instrument... The map editor is absolutely brilliant and hopefully a sign of things to come! Burning fields/bushes/and other destructible objects are still as fun as the first time. I have never had the mic's cut out or seen the dreaded "Connection Interruption". For every legitimate complaint I can find I find 5 great things that are only in this title... Single player is fantastic!!! Anyone complaining about the amount of driving should learn the bus system, problem solved... The complete freedom to approach any situation ANY way you'd like is incredible and carries this single player past 30 hours easily!!! Blowing up ammo dumps sending bullets and explosives everywhere while people are reloading is sooooo much fun (multiplayer) and getting shot while hiding and trying to heal myself keep things very interesting! Multiplayer needs some lobby tweaks NO DOUBT but this title has only been out for a few weeks. Mine (and everyones) beloved COD 4 was unplayable for the first month. Give them a chance to perfect it because it would have been a shame had everyone bashed that title and gave it 1 star out of spite and nothing else..... If your still on the fence about this title then rent it and see for yourself! EXTREMELY PROGRESSIVE GAME in my opinion.
The locations are highly detailed, particularly the jungles, deserts and mountains. The character models are very detailed, as are the many different weapons you collect or buy along the way. The game has 3 Acts and each one has a cutscene or two setting up the Act, with the cutscene being pre-rendered CGI, which kind of stands out compared to the other scenes with you getting your missions, where those are real-time. The story of the game is interesting enough, but after awhile it drags on as their are constant betrayals, cliches, etc.
The sounds and music are all solid and help with the mood of the game. Voice acting is rather good as well and there are a lot of characters--so many that you will likely be confused as to what faction you are working for.
The enemy AI is very tough at times as a lot of enemies are thrown at you at one time, all with superior firepower and aim. Many of the enemy checkpoints are filled with enemies and it's usually best to just drive through as fast as you can and hope they don't jump in a jeep (which they 99.9% of the time do) and chase you. Then you have to hit "X" and take control of the large mounted gun and take 'em out. (It's fun the first few times, but with all of the backtracking, it becomes tiresome to always have enemies pop up in the same locations and you have to stop to take them out. Also, your vehicles don't take much damage before you have to repair them--yes, repair them. (I thought it was a gimmick at first, but the game developers really make you use it. My suggestion is upgrading your vehicle repair ability early on to avoid frustrating time ticking away as you have to stop and wait while you repair them.)
The controls are good, but the driving controls are a little too loose causing you to veer off paths or roads and wreck your vehicles. Also, an auto-aim would have been a nice touch, as often it is hard to target the enemies as they run around a lot.
I didn't really notice any glitches except a little slow down, which I have become used to. The save system is pretty generous and I recommend using safe houses or any save location as often as you can to keep from having to drive all the way from one side of the map to the other.
For first person shooters, it is a pretty solid game with story, graphics, controls and sound. Overall, I had a good time and it lasted for me for about 15-16hrs. which is good. Again, many missions are underwhelming or similar and there is a lot of backtracking. The side missions are more of the same and are not necessary to beat the game, only to get all of the trophies. Some might get tired of the muted colors of the terrain and locations. Had the missions been a little more interesting and there was less backtracking, I would have given it 4 stars. As it stands, it is a solid 3 star game. It's at least worth a rental or maybe $29.99 (as I have seen it at stores).
3/5 stars
Pros:
*15+ hrs. of gameplay.
*Nice graphics and sound.
*Interesting story and characters (NPC's.
*Controls are solid and intuitive for your character.
*AI is good.
*Nice selection of vehicles and weapons (most are upgradeable).
Cons:
*Missions can become redundant and involve a lot of backtracking. It's a tradeoff between length of game and repeating exploration of some of the same areas.
*There's no real boss characters and no mission is that difficult that you can't beat it on the first attempt.
*You can die cheap deaths, so save often.
*Enemy AI can be nearly super hero at times requiring far too many shots to take them down. (Also, be aware that some don't die immediately and while moaning on the ground, they will still shoot at you.)

Wow. For me, this is cutting edge gaming. I like the total immersion in a beautiful, hostile and huge landscape that allows me to explore a variety of habitats in all kinds of vehicles (including a glider!).The minimal gamer data intrusions on-screen allow for much more of a feeling of entering the African world.

One thing about this game is that it's initial appeal is huge. You launch the game and quickly notice that:(1) Graphically, it's incredible.
Honest reviews on Far Cry 2 - Playstation 3
I just played about an hour of single player to get the feel for the game before I tried the map editor and the online play. Single player visually is just a hair below the quality of COD 4 but hardly noticeable and at times it looks better. Guns break down over time and jam and then break unless you upgrade your weapons. Running is more like Gears of War than COD. Fire propagation is brilliant! After an hour I tried the map editor for about 10 minutes and the possibilities are absolutely limitless and show the most potential for online play out of any game available!!! Couldn't stand it anymore so I turned on the multiplayer. Fearing lag problems I was pleased to find NONE!!! We had several fires burning large areas and did not notice any lag at all. It takes allot more ammo to kill someone than Im used to but I quickly adapted to the change in play and absolutely loved it! Shotguns are 1 shot 1 kill at close range, sniper rifles accurate and powerful, the uzi is deadly accurate within 20 feet, and the machete is more fun than a knife ;) There are 6 classes to choose from and many different weapons available. All classes available can be upgraded for different weapons, more grenades or more powerful secondary weapons... Maps are huge and very beautiful! Supports 16 player online battles with an endless amount of maps that are as good as any I've seen. Lobby is well designed and works perfectly. You can vote past a map, vote off obnoxious players, vote to scramble the teams, mute players, and just about everything else we've found ourselves wishing we had in other game lobbies... If you were at all interested in this game you must buy it! If your just tired of COD 4 and not too stoked about COD 5 being WWII AGAIN try Far Cry 2, you will not be disappointed. Any fan of FPS's should buy this game for either console! My pick for sleeper hit of the year!!! I say sleeper hit because its not getting the buzz other games (ie;Little Big Planet and Resistance 2) are and may go unnoticed by allot of people. Absolutely love it so far and can't wait for my clan to get the game tonight!!!My update 11-08-2008 After playing this title for a couple weeks I am continued to be impressed!

I played "Far Cry 2" over a 4 week period, mainly due to being busy, but also due to the fact that, while enjoyable to play, it didn't have that "I just gotta play it every day" feel to it. Don't get me wrong, it is an enjoyable game for the most part, but if you are not a fan of exploring, trial and error gameplay, and re-exploring (emphasis on having to backtrack constantly, nearly every mission), this game definately is not for you.The locations are highly detailed, particularly the jungles, deserts and mountains.

SILVER Xbox 360 Modded Controller (Rapid Fire) COD Black Ops, MW3 Review
This controller is worth the 70+ price tag. When using the d-pad in the menu set up on the 360 or in game the normal d-pad likes to go in diagonals and screw with you. But with this bad boy just a quick twist and that problem is gone. No more diagonals to mess with ya. But what if you wan to play a fighting game twist it back and punch and kick to your little hearts content. You got to love it. LOVE IT I SAY LOVE IT!!!

This game is alot of fun. I have a four year old and she loves Disney. Bought this game after having Just Dance Kids 2 which was terrible. Just Dance Disney does not suffer from the same problems that JDK2 did. First and most importantly the Kinect sensor is probably the most improved I have ever seen it. You can use a controller to select songs from the menu. The menu itself is very easy to use and pretty straight forward. The song selection is pretty good could always use more songs. would love a song pack in the next few weeks. I think this is by far one of the only games I found that my daughter can actually play on her own. I did have the menu freeze but was able to bypass by hitting the xbox button on the controller then canceling. If you and your child like Disney this is worth picking up.
This is the first time a Kinect game locked up my console, hopefully they will release a patch to address it.

It has a nice blend of Disney hit songs (performed by real dancers, similar to just dance kids). However after we played a couple of songs, occasionally it got stuck, sometimes it could recover back to the main menu, while other times it became completely frozen, and didn't respond to hand movement, and controller! I had to power cycle the console. This is the first time a Kinect game locked up my console, hopefully they will release a patch to address it.

She enjoys doing most of the dances, the rating isn't so precise that she misses out on too many points for being a beat behind. She has also had a lot of fun listening to the songs sung in all the various languages that are available.Thursday, March 20, 2014

If you liked the original FEAR on Xbox 360, then you will like this standalone expansion pack. It's basically more of the same. I just got started on Extraction Point, and the thing that struck me right from the beginning is that it seems like a typical sequel. So far, nothing too out of the ordinary. The environments are pretty bland like the original. The gameplay is the same as the original. You can, however, start playing Perseus Mandate (which is brand new to the series) any time you like rather than having to complete Extraction Point first. The graphics might be a tad better than the original, but that's not really saying much. There are still your typical weird paranormal experiences splashed in with the typical fire fights as you roam through the typical halls of office buildings and churches. I didn't find myself being particularly scared like I did during the original FEAR. I guess I got desensitized. At any rate, if you don't mind more of the same you will be happy as a clam with FEAR Files.
Even though it is a tad silly at times, it really is good fun.
I hope another fear files is in the works I'll buy it!

The expansion pack delves a little deeper into the supernatural aspects of the original, and like the original goes and goes never seeming to end. If you liked F.E.A.R. I predict you'll enjoy the expansion packs tremendously.Honest reviews on F.E.A.R. Files - Xbox 360
Ironic there are 2 stories in this pack that go completely different directions in the telling and they both pull it off nicely. Lots of great new weapons to play with and new enemies in both. I'm bursting to not spoil some of the great new weapons, but let's just say that you won't be disappointed. There is one early scene in Perseus Mandate I absolutely love. Of course Alma and her boy Fettal is back and again...you really don't want to play this game at midnight...boo. :)Find helpful customer reviews and review ratings for F.E.A.R. Files - Xbox 360
FEAR is inarguably one of the best games in 2006. With its complex and detailed story proves a new group of game fans to appreciate this great first-person shooting game. The add-on pack, what can I say, just an upper level of fun add to the original game.
