This is the best NASCAR game out there bar none. I am a huge NASCAR fan and I love this game! The playability of the game is excellent and you can spend hours making highly technical adjustments on the car in the garage and they make an amazing difference to how the car handles. If you're not up for such technical things and just want to race, go for it! The cars are set up very well from the get go and you can be very competetive without making any adjustments to the car. Most of the NASCAR stars are depicted in this game along with quite a few drivers that I've never heard of. The tutorial is great as are the one on one challenges against the NASCAR stars. The only complaints I have about this game are the graphics which at times simulate the sun glaring on your windshield which gets annoying at times. Also, I ran into a problem while racing at Martinsville. The race went under caution after the 4th lap and the pace car kept coming off and on to the track. The race didn't go back to green again and it was very frustrating. I haven't faced any other problems with this game. Fix this minor glitch and you've got an AMAZINGLY stunning game!

When I first popped "Nascar Heat" into my X-Box I have to admit, I was a little disappointed. The graphics don't look as impressive as they do with "Nascar Thunder". But as I started to play they game I realized there was no comparison. The race cars have a better feel about them. If you play in the Hardcore mode, (No driver aids) the way I always do, you quickly realize this game is tough too beat. It's harder to win than any other racing game I have. (That's saying a lot.) Both "Thunder" and "Heat have problems with their two road racing courses, way too much slow down. "Heat" is almost impossible to drive on the two road courses with the driving aids turned off. But on the short Nascar ovals "Heat" has it all over "Thunder". The one funny thing about "Heat" is that there is no way to speed up the process when a yellow comes out. You have to wait for the pits to open, (Just like the real Nascar) and then you have to wait several laps before going back to green. My advice, get up and stretch and have a cup and coffee, and be ready to go back to green. Can't wait for this game to get updated. Now get out there and buy a racing wheel and pedals, and you'll never go back to hand controllers again.

This game is so much fun still 6 years after i bought it. Me and my brother still play this game every weekend and have a blast playing it. There are 27 real nascar drivers and 16 fantasy drivers (unfortunately no #15 michael waltrip NAPA car) kind of a bummer that they don't have the 2001 winner of the daytona 500 in here since the game takes place during the 2001 season and no dale earnhardt sr. in the game. Other than that this game rocks, every track except bristol is awesome and even though they left out indy, pocono, chicago, and kansas the rest of the game makes up for it. If you are a NASCAR fan I WOULD HIGHLY HIGHLY RECOMMEND BUYING THIS GAME, it blows away any EA Sports title in a landslide becasue unlike EA this game actually has a real simulation feel to it along with spectacular crashes and pile ups. The multiplayer is a blast once you get a couple of your friends over and the racing can get pretty intense at times. The beat the heat mode and Race the pro modes are fun also and can really help you become good at the game. Bottom line is this is the BEST NASCAR GAME FOR THE XBOX STILL.

Nephew just turned 8 and is learning the ways of Family Football Fanaticism. :) As a birthday gift to go with his game system nothing could be better. He said it clipped right on and feels just fine. Very neat product. Great idea to personalize "his" controller when his friends come over to play.

The Controller faceplate says " Saint" instead of "Saints" ... very irritating especially when it was a gift.

I followed the instructions on here and tried some other stuff online. Spent about 2 hours trying to get it to synch and it just wouldn't work. Bought he genuine product from MSFT for $45 and all is now well. This may have worked for some folks but it was dicey for me.

I was personally running Windows 8, so that may have been part of the issue.

This receiver works great! It was a little difficult to set it up since you need an externally powered USB port but it works perfectly!

Plugged it in, followed the directions for installing (the ones in the product discription on the web site) and my xbox 360 controler found it and started working. The little disk that came with it was broken in half inside the box, but as it turns out, you don't need it so I didn't care.

Age of Pirates 2: City of Abandoned Ships - PC
Customer Ratings: 3 stars

I played the previous game AOP Car. Tales and many things that was wrong with that game seem to be fixed or added in this version. You can now fulley explore islands and find hidden treasures like in the Disney version of Pirates of the Car. which was suppose to be Sea Dogs 2.

Fighting has a few new moves but is pretty much the same as you can parry. But the game is still clunky when moving your charactor on land or in hand to hand battles.

breakdown:

Gameplay: B (many new quests and better sotryline bring this score up and the new roll playing P.I.R.A.T.E.S system bring this score up)

Plot: C (don't really have one as its a open ended game)

Value: B($29.99 is really too high of a price in a old tech game more like $19.99)

Sound: B(voice acting is not this games strong point)

Graphics: C(need better island and land textures as well as town buildings)

Replay Value: B (neverending amount of quests and things to do make this one long game)

Overall: B (average pirates roll playing game that is a rare gem and worth playing for those who don't mind its game flaws and outdated graphical textures)

Ship combat remains the same but some new features have been added such as traveling in a row boat to another friendly ship (not enemy) and is a neat addition. You can advance time as well but this was present in the last version. Now it seems you can install new canons on your ship and have up to four allied ships at one time traveling with you.

The games quests are more numerous but some seem tacked on. I only played through the beginning of them and they are vague on telling you hints or what exactly to do to complete them. Still some are really interesting such as treasure hunting maps.

The world map is much larger incompassing most of the Car. sea and even Central America and Northern South America. You have new cities such as Belize, Puerto Bello, Panama, Caracos Trinidad & Tobago and Lake Texcoco Tenochtitlan in Central America. It now seems to take a good deal of time to cross the entire map area but makes it more real.

The new PIRATES roll playing system adds new characteristics such as Power, Insight, Endurance and Success. There are seven total. The other charactor attributes from the last game are present and you can choose from four classes such as a Adventurer, Merchant and Corsiar the hardest since it means a pirate class (a enemy to all).

The same countries are present like the Dutch which are well rounded, Spain the most powerful, England Spain's spiritual enemy and France the Dutch ally and England top rival. Of course there is a pirate faction but this is hard since you are a out cast and I would recommend playing for one of the other nations above first then going for the pirate class after you gain experience with the game.

The graphics are outdated and the resolution only goes to 1280x1024 which on a 22' wide screen monitor the game looks kind of distorted. Textures especially land on the islands need updated badly but charactor and ship textues look decent. Water textures are this games strong point of course but other textures mentioned need updated.

Sounds are meh. You have background music that is OK but I found it annoying as it repeats over and over so I turned it off. Most charactors have one intro voice and after that its text when talking to individuals. Combat sounds such as canons and gun sound weak but pass for immersion.

Overall you have a game here that Age of pirates Car. Tales should have been. If you don't want to spend the money on this just downlaod the super mod for the above mentioned game providing you own it already and if you don't I would buy this game instead as it would be much less hassle.

For those of you having problems playing this game in Windows 7, blame Microsoft and it's security features! This game runs perfect in Windows 7 both 32 AND 64 bit, just don't install it to C:\Program Files\. Install instead to something like C:\Games\City of Abandoned Ships\ it will run just fine from there! Microsoft in it's infinite wisdom decided to treat everything installed in C:\Program Files\ as protected operating system files, and to access programs or files in those directories properly, you must either be logged in as Administrator or set everything to run as Administrator. Save yourself the headache and install it to C:\Games\ instead!

There are a few other technical issues I won't get into here, but if you want real support for this game, go to \\ Playlogic's marketing and support for this game have been absolutely pathetic and almost non existent! This game is not perfect, but it is a very good game and well worth the original $30 price tag, for $10, it's a steal!

I have "Steelkeys 6G" the mistype years series. the only reason i menton it is it is a horrible key board for typing and gaming, it is well, just a horrible keyboard, durible but badly registered keys. However, I have six other keyboards and all of them don't register on this game. Much. A command either goes through or not. You can usually execute mouse keys but you can't always go into "combat mode" even when someone is attacking you. In additon, firing cannons is horrendous and I just let the crew do it. thier is no clear reload progress meter as in "Cid Meyer's Pirates!". the graphcis and imersion are better in this game, for it is a first person(heads up third person) perspective, unlike Cid Meyres which was more a point and click graphic adventure on land and did not have the true persepctive on you on your ship, two pluses to get you emersed in the game, Cid Meyres did not. Also, this is not generic as CId Meyer's version but it is hard to issue key commands. If you start a new game, thier is a chance(in ship, not captain blood) your "cut scene" will not play out and you will be stuck on the boat with no insident to get the plot out of the way. If your crew(hand-to-hand sparring instructors) don't show up, you must not only restart the game, but reboot your PC, that is the only way I found to solve the problem, and sometimes it doesn't. If you play either the dutch guy or the spanyard this happens, not with Captain Blood as you begin on dry land. One important thing of note, do not pick fights unarmed, your "pirate" can't fight unarmed. He just stands there with his arms down(the moron yetusz) taking it. If the police take your sword and then you try to, for example, plan a riot to escape enslavement, you won't succed you will have every soldier, slave, woman, and her freggen dog and all the world attacking you and you will not be able to do anything, it maybe a glitch as it is truely a 'showstopper" when it happens to "Captain" BLood in the beginning town. You can 'sneak" a wheapon past the home where you rescue the provisioner but you will ALWAYS get caught, you cannot open the gate you cannot sneak past and you ABS-o-LUte-ly will not get past the gards in the slave plantaton and the slaves will attack you too! How nice to be appreciated!

Honest reviews on Age of Pirates 2: City of Abandoned Ships - PC

If you are fan of games with an RPG element and enjoy the Golden Age of Piracy, this is a game that you will thoroughly remember for years to come.

However, I have to give warning for those that have not played the previous titles from Akella including Sea Dogs and Age of Pirates. This game is much deeper that Sid Meier's Pirates! This is the game that AoP and Sea Dogs should have been, but the learning curve is very steep initially. Fully compatible with WIN 7 and looks sharp and has good atmospherics. You can easily modify the system.ini file to allow proper widescreen resolutions up to 2650X1600 in proper aspect ratio. Probably the one major complaint I have is the interface. Its archaic. Controls for the player are not naturally intuitive, and don't "flow" like say the Prince of Persia series, as keyboard and mouse is the predominant means of movement. Using a gamepad is NOT the best option here. Expanded options for fighting with multiple types of attacks and and a more realistic sail model are the real updates here. Contrary to some opinions, there is a plot but really only if you play as the first primary character, Peter Blood. Due to the depth of the game, only hardcore players will ever see the true ending as quests can be incredibly difficult without first building up your character even at moderate difficulty.

Overall, if you willing to accept the interface issues, and get past the gigantic learning curve at the beginning the game, the whole procress starts to pick up steam as you gather experience. Being able to face down a Man-o-War with a single frigate, board and defeat the crew through multiple levels of decks until you face the captain for capture is exciting. The number of side quests is substantial, and will literally take hundreds of hours to complete. This is game where at the beginning you really have to pick your fights carefully. If you expect to take on hundreds of soldiers and cut them down like bundles of wheat, you will be disappointed, as death comes quickly to the unprepared.

One final note, I highly recommend downloading the fan-made COAS Combined Mod 3.1.5 which fixes a number of bugs and glitches, massive graphic overhaul, a modified trade system so you may be a peaceful ply the seas, adds 12+ new playable characters and questions, a plethora of new items and weapons, and most importantly dozens of new ships and sea battle capability. This pushes the game install well over the 15 GB range. Even after the main quests are finished (which are incredibly complicated), there are still many new areas to explore.

Play as Captain Jack Sparrow and defeat Davey Jones and the Flying Dutchman!

UPDATE MAJOR Upgrade 31 MAY 12

Age of Pirates City of Abandoned Ships just took another major facelift and upgrade.

The most definitive age of piracy "sandbox" game ever created.

Long after I posted this review Pirates Ahoy! and modders finally have developed the game into the full product it should have been back in 2009.

Gentlemen of Fortune 1.2 was released in late MAY 2012, and has brought the game to over 16 GB. Ship models have continued to surpass all expectations.

Even after playing the game for over 3 years, it still keeps me coming back to start over. I have yet to finish all the major quests, including the selling your soul to the devil to be granted immortality or the naval books and knowledge for reading. Just as challenging as it was after the first round of "bug fixes" and control issues, but playing the game in full 2560X1600 resolution is breathtaking on a large monitor or 1920X1080 on a HDTV is equally as impressive. Build your empire for the colonial power of your choice after a lot of hard work! A MUST buy for the pirate enthusiast with a solid gaming computer.

It does have it's glitches, but it is more fun than it's predecessors. Wish they had gotten to patch Sea Dogs and make it better. I liked that interface better where you don't have to be evading other pirates, mostly because it was easier to control your own game experience and when you got attacked. Here you can lose your ship from one bad move.

It's graphically great and the music is nice. Combat could be easier, but then I could play the game at an easier difficulty... It does, however, not seem tiered. Encounters should be moderated between easy and hard for the player's level, rather than getting a very high level pirate on you, which you could never beat (again, I probably should just adjust my difficulty).

Overall a very good game, must have if you have been following since Sea Dogs!

Back in June my second Xbox 360 decided to succumb to the red ring of death; this time I, unfortunately, decided against buying the extended warranty so of course my 1-year warranty ended in April--merely two months before the Xbox died. This did not bode well for my Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare addiction. Well I found I had two options, pay a hundred bucks to Microsoft and almost certainly have it die on me again or just buy the PC version of the game and switch over from console to PC gaming. I decided to go with the second option because PC gaming allows for so many more options and is not as restrictive as to the games available. The major problem I had was that I've been using controllers to play games my entire life and just never really got used to playing with a mouse and keyboard.

I did some searching and found a number of ways to play PC games with a controller, but they were all rather complicated and required some advanced PC knowledge and/or a considerable amount of time to configure. SwitchBlade on the other hand was very easy and simple to install and use and I was playing my favorite game within minutes... CoD4 withdrawal is terrible! I was so happy with the software it made me wonder what other games I could play using it and was amazed to see support for World of Warcraft. I've always been somewhat of a nerd and had a hard time parting with EverQuest back in the day so I thought I'd give WoW a shot and downloaded the 15 day trial. I wasn't too big of a fan of WoW because it seemed like everything was handed to the players (back in my day we had to walk 10 miles to school in the snow uphill both ways) but using SwitchBlade with the game was truly a relaxing and enjoyable experience. Movement was so intuitive and the number of hotkeys available in the software is amazing--it even comes with a keyboard built in!

Anyway, I highly recommend this product to anyone who enjoys playing games with a controller.

I'm not much of a competitive gamer but I like how the skills I've developed playing games on my X Box can translate over to playing PC Games with a controller. Playing on the PC gives me more variety in the fields of play, and I can compete against guys around the world, not just my friends. They have their own server. Switchblade Pro was easy to install and start playing CoD4 right away. It's easier to kick back in my chair and play, rather than hunched over a keyboard.

Sam & Max Hit The Road came out in 1993. 14 years ago. It was a huge success, heralded for its twisted brand of humor and memorable adventure game play. It spawned legions of fans that have been hanging out for the characters return for nigh over a decade.

In 2002, LucasArts announced that a sequel to "Hit the Road" was going into production. In 2004 with the game nearing completion they canceled it. Outrage in the form of 30, 000 signatures in an online petition greeted the news. Sam & Max are beloved characters and "Hit The Road" is considered a classic and one of the funniest games to ever be released.

Luckily ex-Lucasarts employees formed Telltale Games and have finally brought us a new Sam & Max game after 14 long years. Season 1 totals 6 episodes each about 4-5 hours in length. Sam & Max tackle a new case with each episode, while an overarching storyline pieces the episodes together.

The new Sam & Max game really retains that clever brand of humor of previous Sam & Max incarnations. Episode 1 gets off to a strong start. Episode 2 and 3 are quite funny but suffer from simplistic game play. The puzzles in these episodes won't give you any headaches. Episode 4, Abe Lincoln Must Die is where the series really reaches new heights. It's a hilarious romp in which Max runs for president against a robotic Abe Lincoln. The environments are fresh, and the puzzles require greater thought. The music across the entire series is absolutely brilliant. Jared Emerson-Johnson has created some wonderful and diverse jazz music to accompany the game. The voice acting is superb and really brings the characters to life. Episode 5 and 6 finish off the season strongly with more well designed puzzles, hilarious dialog and wacky adventures. Perfect material for Sam & Max to riff off. I can't recommend this game enough. If you want a good laugh and a return to games that are genuinely funny purchase this season. I can't wait for Season 2.

Adventure games have been sadly sparse these last 10 years or so. But this was always one of my favorite genres, even though I don't have quite the patience to get through a game without resorting to a hint here and there. The original Sam & Max was one of my favorite games for its sometimes crude humor and its clever puzzles. This definitely fits right in with the original, but in general has puzzles that are usually solvable with a little time and thought. Some may complain that a few of the episodes are too easy but I personally find it refreshing to be able to get through them without pulling all my hair out trying to figure out some complicated puzzle that involves dozen of things that have to be done in the right order with all the right items. There's still *plenty* of challenge here while also having a fun plot and humorous dialogue to keep you entertained.

Best Deals for Sam & Max: Season One

I've loved adventure games for a very very long time. Leisure Suit Larry, King's quest, Grim Fandango, Monkey Island etc... have always been favorites of mine. I've played many since then and while many are good in their own way, none seem to have been able to capture that creative funny spark which so many from Sierra and LucasArts in days past have been able to do.

When years ago we all learned that Sierra was bring back Leisure Suit Larry I was thrilled but that quickly turned to hate when I learned Al Lowe wouldn't even be part of the team and that it wasn't even Larry Laffer and thus we ended up with a subpar game IMO. Enter Sam and Max, hit the road was is a great game and if you haven't played this original I strongly suggest you do. The question is could this new season of short games after so many years keep up the level of par that the original held? For the most part as many others have said I am pleased to say yes. Season one is funny, held my attention and was fun to play. The puzzles overall are not that challenging which is probably the only let down. However all of them make logical (and comical) sense. If you have never played an adventure game, pick this one up as you owe it to yourself to see what a game from the adventure genre can do. Overall only some of the jokes are repetitive but it's a real blast to play. Four out of five stars only because I feel the puzzles could have been more difficult. I'd say the game is stuck between easy to intermediate and you shouldn't really need a walkthrough.

Honest reviews on Sam & Max: Season One

It's been a long time since Sam & Max: Hit the Road was released, and for about that long, I never thought I'd be able to see or afford the sequal-that-was-not-to-be. You can only imagine my surprise and unbridled joy when I learned that the Freelance Police were back with a new beat, a new look, and the same sarcastic wit that I know and love!

The game itself is still much of the same of what Hit the Road was, but obviously aimed for a demographic that doesn't want to spend a month doing everything. Something I no longer have time to do myself now that I'm out in the real world and not wasting away some high school weekend football game in front of my TV. While the individual episodes only take a few hours to finish, there is a mountain of hidden content in each of the episodes depending on what tasks you do and in what order you do them in. More often than not, you will find hidden jokes by simply using the wrong item in a very illogical way, which is how you also solve most of your puzzles.

Unfortunately, the overall plot is somewhat predictable. I was able to spot who the major villian was from the second episode, so the big reveal was no surprise. This is, thankfully, fixed by the episodic plots contained within each... uh, episode. Each adventure has their own plot twist or strange humor to keep them fun and engaging. The characters are fleshed out to the point where I can't help but like the side cast of crazies.

The production quality of the game is also something to be praised. The writing is on par with not only the past incarnations of Sam & Max, but that of the comics as well! The voice acting only gets better and better as you get deeper and deeper into the game, but they were still really well done from the first episode on. However, my personal favorite element of the game is the music! The sample soundtrack that comes with this version does nothing but leave me wanting more. (So much so, that I bought the official 2 CD soundtrack from the Telltale Games store.)

This game is a must own for anyone that wants to have a good time playing a video game but without the requirement of devoting a whole weekend to it. You can play one episode, take a break, and then pick up again weeks later if you want and still not miss out on the fun that is Sam & Max!

My only gripe is that my computer isn't good enough to see the game in all its high-quality graphic goodness.

I've been waiting for a new Sam and Max adventure since playing Hit the Road more than a decade ago. I'm glad that it's finally become reality.

I think the episodic nature works well for characters like Sam and Max.

But I do have a few complaints.

1. The voices. Obviously different voice actors are used, but I feel Sam's voice lacks the snarkiness he had in Hit the Road. He plays it too straight here. It's also kind of disappointing when you select a hilarious line of dialog for Sam to say, only to have Sam rephrase it in a straight manner.

2. Many puzzles are too easy. There are limited locations and limited objects, and some of the puzzles are too obvious. In Hit the Road, there was a large variety of objects, some useless, and it was much more challenging to figure out.

3. As mentioned in #2, there aren't that many places to go or people to talk to in each adventure. Everything has a purpose. It would be nice to through in a couple extra persons, places or things in each story.

Despite all that, it's still a worthwhile game. Hopefully they address some of the above in the recently-announced Season 2!

I'm not a wimp or a gaming novice, so its not often I think that a game is too difficult...but this is exactly how I feel about Siren. I was very excited about playing it after seeing advance demos and previews of it, but I was unprepared for the challenge that was ahead of me.

The game plays like a cross-breed of Silent Hill and Metal Gear Solid, in that your adventure takes place in a nightmare world of derelict locations populated by sub-human zombie type monsters, but, with little or no means of attacking them, your success is largely down to using stealth tactics to sneak your way through the game, or to surprise and attack the enemy from strategic hiding places. Unlike the radar map in MSG, here your characters have the ability to see through the eyes of other people, which helps you plan your safest route, or warns you of attack when you suddenly "tune in" to the sight of yourself being run towards from behind! The game's setting is spot on. The many locations are on the small side, but all fully detailed and explorable. The enemies are horrifically realistic, mostly made up of zombified townsfolk who are all bleeding from the eyes and lurching around armed with various weapons and torches to seek you out with. It has been said that survival in this game is tough, and it's true. Be prepared to spend a lot of time watching your characters die as you try to work out the various strategies to passing each stage. The try-die-try again gameplay echoes that of the PS game "Fear Effect", so if that drove you crazy, expect more of the same. The playable characters are exceptionally vunerable to attack, and two swipes with a knife or one well-placed bullet will be then end of you, and the zombie enemies are relentless in their pursuit. In addition to this, when you do actually get a weapon with which to attack the zombies, you have to act fast because they always get up again after being knocked out for a minute or so. It adds up to an exceedingly punishing game, but I guess its actually far more realistic than the life bar and instant healing products of other survival horror games.

More problematic than actually just surviving, though, is working out what on earth you are supposed to be doing. The game is split between several playable characters, each of whom have separate "missions" to complete, and all are played non-chronologically at varying times within the game's 3 day timescale. The levels usually require a very obscure set of conditions to be met before you can accomplish each mission, and sometimes, the same stage will also feature a further, hidden puzzle that needs solving so that different characters can proceed through later missions. The menu for this is a kind of 3 day plan-o-gram with slots for all the characters at different days and times, with coloured lines linking them all up...it's quite a mental feat to piece all this together to work out what is going on. One really annoying aspect of the game is that if the hidden conditions to "open up" later missions are not met in the levels you have already completed, you are forced into a loop of replaying the same levels over and over again until you realise that there is a part of the river you did not think to look in (if you went that way), or a spot on the ground that the game prompts you can be dug up (if you happen to be standing in exactly the right place). Many players may suffer immense frustration whilst playing when they find they are never allowed to go anywhere new. I know I did, and it leads me to believe that only a truly dedicated player is going to put in the amount of work needed to make it through to the end.

This is a real shame, because the general concept and story behind the game is truly original, and there are some genuinely unsettling scenes to be encountered, which should startle even survival horror veterans. The graphics are amazing, characters look and move like real people, but sadly the obviously authentic Japanese setting has been weakened by the saddling of all the speaking characters with British (sometimes even cockney) accents, which is a terrible mistake. Still, the other design strengths just about manage to make up for it. Characters have recognisable personalities and all play differently. You'll soon find yourself with favourites and don't be surprised if you occasionally find yourself moved to sadness at their plight, or terrified along with them.

In conclusion, this is a teeth-grittingly hard game to play. Combining all too easily killed characters with obscure puzzle hunting, in levels where you have no pointers towards what to do or where to go, is a triple whammy that the game struggles to win you over with. Otherwise it is so near to being the most terrifying game on the PS2.

I took a risk and bought Siren even though I had read many conflicting reviews. I really enjoyed playing this game. However, baring the assumption that you can foresee the future, I wouldn't even dream of recommending this game without a guide. The puzzles and items that you are some how magically supposed to solve are absurd. If you don't heed this warning you will waste hours of backtracking through unforgivably hard levels to get them (after you magically figure out that you forget to grab them in the first place). In fact, completely ignore the fact that there are puzzles (use a guide) because it is hard enough to survive getting from point A to point B. Also, the voice acting isn't that bad the first time you hear it (as bad as using American accent to translate, instead of leaving in Japanese with subtitles), it is that it becomes grating because you will die and have to hear it again and again. Oh yeah, you will get killed by snipers repeatedly, so a great deal of patience is needed to get through this game.

I liked everything else about Siren. It is the first survival horror game since the original Silent Hill (original designer of Silent Hill worked on this title) that really felt sprawling and immersing. The Shibito and incarnations of fallen characters are creepy as hell. The visuals are superbly minimal which makes them far more effective and ethereal. The false "heavy metal" ending was really funny. So if you have enjoyed any of the Silent Hill series and always wished they were a little longer, a little more threatening and more challenging give this title a chance.

Again, don't bother with attempting to figure out the puzzles on your own.

I'm sure I'll be jeered by some for not appreciating how "original" this title is. I like games that are original, but I also like games that are scary, fun, and well-crafted. Nothing akin to this game has ever been attempted before, and one can see why, as Siren is completely unplayable. It's as if someone said "You know how those horrible, clunky, Resident Evil style controls severely hamper player enjoyment? Well those controls are too intuitive, lets make the player use a pull-down menu whenever he wants to pick up or use an item!" The visuals are so full of artful (read pretentious) "fog" and film scratches, they turn out to be no better than PS-1 graphics. The sound might be passable, except for the fact that all the Japanese characters have been inexplicably dubbed with cheesy British accents. The sight-jacking feature allows you to see through the eyes of your enemy, as strategy it's all but completely useless, as unless you've run through a level (and died) many, many, many times, you have no clue what the zombies are looking at (Ooh! He sees a twig, and his own hand! That will save my life!) This is one of the most frustrating and pointless games I have ever played in my life, and to make matters worse, ever game-mag I've read is giving this one high marks! As a huge Silent Hill fan, and working from such reviews, I was ready to plunk down cold hard cash to buy this title sight unseen, until I read some reviews from actual gamers. Thank God I rented it first! This is why I write this review, as a service to you. Do not buy into the hype! This game is as scary as athlete's foot, and twice as irritating. Unless of course your idea of the ultimate in terror involves crouching behind shrubbery to avoid un-killable jerks (it's a moot point anyway, as you almost never have a weapon, and the fighting mechanics are awful) who giggle like drunken yokels while looking for you with a flashlight. Or perhaps running through poorly rendered woods while trying to lead a spastically controlled, simpering woman-child, who constantly shrieks "It's about time! Hurry up!...Wait! Don't run so fast!" I rented this game with a discount coupon, I'd like to be pithy and say I overpaid But after that imbecile had run away from me into the waiting maw of a giggling pseudo-zombie for the tenth time whilst mewling orders at me, I found out that you can "accidentally" use weapons on your companions. Bludgeoning that twit to death was worth every penny!

Honest reviews on Siren - PlayStation 2

If you want a game that will last as long as GTA then get this. The story is actually quite amazing to say the least but you will be in it for the long haul.

There are several maps and over twelve characters that meet in the story at different times. It is like Silent Hill but slower as you are not given great weapons to defeat the enemy. Instead you have the power of second sight. You do things in the map that are for the characters benefit and to set up something for another character who will arrive there later. The story is sort of like Pulp Fiction in that all the characters finally meet as you take them through the story.

It is very very very difficult and very easy to die but there is a method to the game and once you manage to use the second site to run around the place so that the monsters do not see you it gets a lot easier.

Stick with it, but this is by no means an out-of-box couple of days game play. It is more like twenty minutes a day for the next 12 months.

Addictive but slow.

Fans of the survival horror gaming genre were no doubt excited by unraveling the mystery of Sirens errie Japanese town with the terrifying past. Sadly, the premise is about as exciting as the game gets.

The Pros

This game is a really gorgeous visual treat. The chracters are rendered with a new technolgy that actually wraps realistic images onto 3d computerized planes.

The setting has been developed well. The village of Hanuda is a scary place cast in eternal darkness surrounded by a sea of blood and of course the Siren going off in the background.

The Cons (and there are many)

The game developers dubbed the game with a British voice over crew which in the beginning is comical but after awhile just feels ridiculous. For some people this may not be an issue at all but for me it just seemed distracting playing a Japanese guy and to hear him shout "Oi Mate! wait up!"

Secondly, the gameplay is terribly limited and re-do's abound. More skilled gamers may not have to replay missions as much but I found it hard not to be killed as 80% of the time your only defense is to run and hide. The game employs a drop down menu to issue command to your character. The menu is easy to use but truly annoying. A good example occurs on the first mission. Your goal is to escape a bad guy via car. The drop down menu asks you 1) Would you like to pick up the car key? 2) Would you like get in the car? 3) Put key in ignition? 4) Turn key to start car?truly gets to be cumbersome to game play.

Lastly, the game uses a event system/ time table for you to keep track of events as they happen to all 10 playable chracters. While that sounds convoluted in itself it only gets worse that you have to play all ten characters and not one at a time. The game is broken up into missions. For example, one mission may involve a journalist and reveal certian parts of the mystery and these events are recorded on the time table. The next mission you are introduced to a new character and complete the next mission and learn more. You must refer back to the time table to try and piece it all together.

Siren was a truly exciting idea thta really failed to deliver. I don't feel many people actually completed as I myself grew bored and gave up halfway through. If you truly want to be scared and enetertained I recommend Fatal Frame 1 or 2 as both are in my opinion the best (and scariest) the genre has to offer.

I will kinda cut the actual Rock Band 3 part of this thing out, because the focus here is on the instrument, the 360 version specifically. I'll just say that it does its job perfectly fine with the game and move along.

So, on to the actual keyboard. Anyone who's ever spent ten seconds messing around with one will either know or secretly understand there are usually two things about keyboards when it comes to their construction: the keys have a certain weight to them, and the instrument is usually solidly built (not plastic-y). The MadCatz keyboard fits both of those roles perfectly. It does NOT feel like the vast majority of the other Rock Band 3 instruments, namely the guitar: thin, hollow plastic things which feel like you could snap them over your knee. No, this cat is pretty solid and feels like it could take a battering if need be. The keys have a natural weighted feel and respond just as they should, but with a single addition of ridges over the left ends of some, likely to help newbies with the game align their fingers with the colored sections without having to look down...as much.

If I've given the impression that this thing has a built-in speaker, think otherwise. And Rock Band 3 doesn't, as far as I can remember, have a freestyle mode to let you play whatever on the keys. But, this does come with a 5-pin MIDI outlet, and all of its buttons and keys and I'm pretty sure literally ALL of them, even the touch strip are programmed for use with MIDI software. This puts it further into something more of an actual instrument than just a game controller.

It makes for a compact, fairly versatile item, albeit for the niche market of music gamers and creative keyboardists. As for its interplay with Rock Band 3, there's no real need to mention it here other than it works, because anything deeper is on the game side, which I'll save for a review of it rather than this peripheral.

There is little to say about the keyboard... it's two octaves, the keys feel pretty nice, and it responds quite well. Overall it's well built and functions nicely with Rock Band 3.

The real problem with it is not in the hardware, but in the game itself. You'll find that the disc only has 63 songs with keys out of the 83, and at least 6 of those 63 tracks aren't really worth playing, unless you enjoy hitting 5 notes and then playing nothing for half the song. The songs that do have a reasonable amount of keys, however, are incredibly fun on both standard and pro, and certainly makes the purchase worthwhile. Additionally, downloadable songs will come with keyboard parts when there is one in the song, so you'll quickly be able to add to the small library of key songs.

The pro keyboard mode works very nicely, offering a nice extra challenge on top of the standard instruments for those who want it, and you may even learn a few things from doing it. My only complaint here being that, in practice mode, you can only slow down to 60%, which is still to fast to properly learn some of the more complex songs like Roundabout.

Overall, the keyboard is a really nice instrument and a nice addition to Rock Band.

Being a piano player for the last 30 years and finding that most rock bands don't have a place for piano players, I was really excited for Rock Band 3 to come out! But then my excitement turned to frustration when I tried to play the pro keyboard setting, and here's why. You have to learn how to read music all over again using Rock Band 3's vertical scrolling-style, and the lines and spaces are so close together that even though the notes are color-coded white and black it's still hard to read on a regular TV screen. Plus the game puts symbols over the special bonus-point notes, and then it's impossible to tell if they're white or black. If they had just put the keyboard part scrolling horizontally across the top of the screen as they do for vocals, and using real ledger lines and notes, this would have been a pianist's dream! As it is, you feel like a 5-year old learning piano for the first time with music as a foreign language. I switched over to the regular keyboard setting within 48 hours and haven't looked back.

Honest reviews on Rock Band 3 Wireless Keyboard for Xbox 360

The keyboard was pretty exciting to play with and get the hang of. Having had some piano experience in the past, it wasn't too difficult to pick up on but there are some pro's and cons to be aware of.

Pros:

1) The keys are spaced out pretty much like a regular keyboard, and there's a strap if you want to use it as a keytar.

2) Its pretty easy on battery life and there are normal AXYB buttons on the pad, unlike the old RB guitars, to allow easier navigation.

3) Sits pretty comfortable in the lap on a couch too if you prefer not to use the strap, or if you have a stand.

Cons:

1) The keys are REALLY sensitive. You've got to get in the habit of not resting any weight on the keys because it'll set off a press which can screw up a combo sometimes.

2) You only play with 1 hand. 2 hand play can be done but because of the size of the piano, its kinda awkward, and when the key segments shift in game, it takes some practice to learn where to replace the hands.

3) For non pro-mode keyboarding, the 5 keys to play are hard to find at first because there are 2 sets of color coordination on the board itself. Smaller color codes are right above the keys, under the large color boards, showing where to play.

All in all, its fun to play, as Rock Band has been since it came out and the keyboard adds a little more flavor to a pretty immersive game already.

Honestly .. I had no expectations when I bought this. My worst fear was that I would use it with Rock Band 3 before it would be retired to the corner of the room reserved for the plastic guitars. Never did I dream that I would be using it even when my XBox was sent to the shop for repairs. I use this instrument every single day.

First off, unlike the mustang guitar, this doesn't feel cheap. The keys have a nice feel to them. The instrument itself also has nice weight that feels snug in my lap, but I can also pass it over to any nearby person by the "neck" without arm strain. It works as designed with the XBox and in Rock Band itself.

It takes a little while to get used to the Rock Band tablature. The trainers are pretty horrific. They don't explain much of anything such as it is only designed for one hand. That said, it is still pretty awesome to jam out with friends. Overdrive works by pressing a button and the touch sensor makes audio distorting pretty fun (I couldn't stand the whammy bar on the guitars). On easy and medium songs, I found I could laze back in my couch when playing, but once I hit the hard songs with the keyboard shifts, I needed to sit up and maintain good posture.

The instrument really shined for me when I bought a midi-to-usb converter. I'm currently doing eMedia's piano teaching software (which is pretty awesome) and the keytar makes for a wonderful practice tool. I'm able to play it through the computer with the software, enabling it to watch my playing and provide feedback. I'm also able to practice when I take a break from work. I just plop it on my desk, fire up my piano trainer, then play along for ten or so minutes. After which, I return to work feeling refreshed.

This is so much more than a game controller and definitely worth every cent. And hey, if you play at work like I do, maybe your co-workers will appreciate it as well (probably not, but you can still hope)

I cannot tell you how many times my hubby or son went to play a game and the controller was dead. Three cords we went through.... I am sooo glad I found this! It works great. So simple to use, keeps them charged, and doesn't overcharge them either! This has been the best investment yet! The best part, you can put it anywhere because it does not use any xbox ports to charge!!

My son absolutely love these chargers because he doesn't have to hook up the cables to the consoles to charge them any more. I love them because I don't have cables all over the floor when he's done playing.

Nice addition to my xbox set up. Organizes the controllers so they are not just laying around and charges them at a good rate too. batteries dye a bit faster than the original xbox 360 ones though but no big deal if you always put the controller back up. If you do this and it stills dies on you, then you have most likely been playing xbox too long haha

I played the original Risen and I found that game to be tough, challenging yet strangely addicting. Risen 2 follows in the footsteps of the original with some welcome improvements but not so many improvements as to make it a "cake walk" or a by-the-numbers adventure.

Every RPG has its own set of rules and game mechanics. For example The Witcher's gameplay is radically different from Skyrim which in turn is different from Mass Effect. This is fact, Risen (parts 1 and 2) is no exception, in the world of Risen you are presented with a sandbox world to explore and remember, much like you would your own neighborhood.

There are no magical beams of light to guide you from place to place; you must remember locals, paths, shortcuts, villages, towns and landmarks to get your bearings.

A vast majorities of quest will be giving to you via conversations you will have with the populace, pay attention to what they say, because buried in their conversation may be directions to how to get to where you are headed.

Risen 2 makes an improvement on the map department since Risen 1's map was cryptic matter to understand.

Speaking of maps, in the world of Risen you are given nothing. You must acquire everything you need. Food, tools, armor/gear, weapons and yes even maps.

This can be frustrating, especially early on in the game since you do not know where you are, you have no lay of the land and you can't make heads or tails of your location. However, this is part of the intrigue of the game. Finding your own way. Won't be long before you recognize a stretch of beach, a rotting stump and a turn of the road, perhaps a cave or a temple with untold treasures to loot.

Risen 2 has a fast travel system, so once you find a local map and find key, important landmarks you may travel to these locations quickly, shortening your travel time.

Why is Risen 2 a feature rich RPG?

What the game lacks in graphical horse power, it more than makes up in features and excellent voice work.

I found myself laughing quite a few times listening to the conversations these the NPC pirates would have about their raids, or who they wanted to "plow".

The developers have done an excellent job of keeping each encounter with NPC and major villains/characters fresh and distinct even if some of the character assets get reused from time to time.

So in short ACES on the voice work.

Few RPG allow for so many different ways to modify and enhance your character. Sadly Risen 2 doesn't allow for character creation (you play the hero from Risen 1), but you can "learn" all kinds of interesting techniques and abilities.

LEARNING is the key word in the universe of Risen (1 and 2), you do not simply level up (by spending glory points) and magically gain the ability to parry blows, or the skills to pick locks.

Instead, you must find NPC throughout the world that are willing to part with their knowledge and teach you the necessary skills for your character to start to form into a complete person. Want to be better at lock-picking? then find the NPC that will part with this knowledge and ask him/her to teach it to you. Want to be better at piercing weapons rather than slashing? then find the appropriate mentor and pay him/her for their time.

This brings up an interesting ebb and flow of always searching for loot, treasure, stealing, hunting, fighting, exploring and quest solving in the hopes that you can advance just one more skill.

Risen 2 ads to the fun by streamlining and making things move in a more coherent, brisk pace. I found myself MUCH more enthralled in this game than in part 1 and I found part 1 captivating. There is a more deliberate and focused direction in Risen 2, you will become a captain, earn a crew and go where you please in no time.

LOW TIDES

If Risen 2 has an element which needed special attention it would have to be combat. as it is, it's "serviceable". However, the more you advance your combat skills and the better the quality of your weapons will directly affect and dictate the outcome in most combat encounters, dramatically.

Risen 2 has a 1 button combat system (primarily) and although this may be off putting to some, it is by no means silly or ill conceived, just not responsive enough. There are plenty of occasions where an enemy can simply spam you with hits and you will be hard pressed to get in a hit, to say nothing of turning around and running. The game simply does not react to inputs fast enough.

You will learn moves such as Parry, Riposte, and such but implementing those moves will be another matter altogether different. I'm 45 hours in and I have yet to find the correct timing to parry anyone.

Your movements are clunky while your enemies are surprisingly agile. This spells trouble with a capital T.

Yet even with the combat snafu (which I am positive can be relieved much by a good patch) the game is still addicting and fun.

It allows you to live your pirate dreams and fantasies and it does it without insulting the player.

In fact I am not even sure if this game would have benefited if the engine used was Unreal (or something equivalent). Sure it would have looked prettier, but perhaps we would not have all these other wonderful ways of interacting in this world as we do now. Legendary weapons, Voodoo, forging, distillery (for making rum and grog ~ you'll NEED IT!), gunsmithing you name it, it's in this game.

Come to Risen with an open mind and realize not all the best games get all the hoopla. You just might be surprised.

This game had potential. It was funny, fun, etc. The problem is that, whereas they make it seem like a sandbox rpg game, it really isn't. You get the best clothing within the first hour of gameplay and then don't get anything else. The combat engine is cool and you start learning a lot of cool tricks, but gets repetitive after you get the best swords... You really get the feeling that they rushed this game out as quickly as they could.

Pick it up used, but don't spend full price.

I'm not calling this a review since i've only put a little over 4 hrs into the game but I wanted to post my initial thoughts about it as a contrast to the bad reviews that have already popped up, my feelings could obviously change the further into the game I get and i'll be sure to update as they do but for now i'm really enjoying it.

I'll start with the combat since that seems to be where the most complaints have come from, it is what it is, I don't think its terrible just very bare bones at first, when you start out all you can do is just mash x over and over and over again until the enemy is dead. You have no other skills until you start to visit trainers and unlock them. I've gotten a pistol and learned how to kick from a trainer last night so now I can throw a kick and gun shot into the mix. I honestly haven't found the combat to be all that difficult, i've had no problems with animals or creatures, stun locking me to death or anything, in fact the only enemies i've had give me a hard time have been a few of the trainers that have kicked my butt so I don't know if they have lowered the difficulty for the console version but i've had little trouble so far. Obviously I can see why a lot of people would not enjoy the combat as it seems that it will take a very long time to put together a good compliment of skills to make you feel like your doing more than just spamming X.

Graphics seem to range from mediocre with some really awkward character animations to really quite nice looking, I thought the first island you go to has a really nice look to it however in a few areas that seemed very graphics intensive the frame rate stutters a bit so I don't know if thats do to poor programing or just the 360 showing its age and struggling. Overall I think it has a nice look and runs pretty well for the most part, I never experienced any bugs, glitches or freezes in my 4 hours with it last night that normally accompany these types of games on release so I was very happy about that. I do have the game installed to my hard drive so I don't know if it performs worse when it isn't so I would keep that in mind.

The starter island has a nice size to it, not to big and not to small, you can run off and explore without being afraid of getting lost which I liked. There are caves to explore and treasure chests scattered all over to loot. It has fast travel and a well organized menu system where everything is easy to find allthough some of the writing for explanations is pretty small which has caused me to have to lean close to the tv a few times to read it. I like the leveling up/glory system quite a bit as well.

Sure it has some minor annoyances like the frame rate issues, awkward animations, small writing, why do I have to pay someone 500 gold to teach me how to kick, its kicking for the love of pete, how complicated can it be?! Oh and I love it when I place my gun directly against an enemies forhead only to miss! But these were all like I said minor annoyances that did not dampen my enjoyment one bit. The dialogue can be quite humorus and the voice acting is mostly solid. But then again what do I know, I love everything so take all of this with a grain of salt.

!!!!UPDATE!!!!: I'm a little over 11 hours into the game now so pretty far into the 2nd island, i'm still very much enjoying myself but I did run into my first creatures that have given me problems. There are a few animals on the 2nd island that attack so fast and frequently that getting stun locked to death is not out of the question, fortunately that has not happened to me, i've come close but i've always had enough healing items to outlast them or had companions to assist me. There does seem to be a bit of trial and error in knowing which enemies can be handled easily and which ones might be a chore to take down but you learn very quickly which is which and you learn tricks to help you deal with the ones that are a hassle, for instance you never seem to be very far from help so if you are near a city or have recently passed by a guard or natives in the wild you can agro the tougher enemies into chasing you back to where the friendlies were and they will assist you in taking them down.

This may sound a bit aggravating but don't worry because at this point in the game help is on the away. You will come to a point where you will have to choose between using guns or voodoo. I went the gun route so now I have gained the ability and access to muskeets which has once again made the game much easier are far more enjoyable. Those pesky creatures that before were pecking you to death can now be dispatched at a safe distance where stun locking isn't even an option for them. So now what I do is switch to my muskeet to deal with those enemies that are a hassle like the firebirds and gouls then back to my sword for enemies that are easily dispatched by it like boars and monkeys to avoid wasting ammo. Its a shame then that it takes almost 10 hours to get to the point where you can use guns or voodoo, they make the game so much better, so much easier and so much more fun but it sounds like many people are just going to give up before they reach that point and its that point that I really feel like the game gets going.

!!!!!UPDATE 2!!!!! I'm a little over 15 hours in now, I completed my first big boss battle against a giant rock titan which was fairly simple but still pretty well done, I wasn't expecting to run into any massive bosses so that was a nice surprise. I've gained access too my own ship now so the game has really opened up allowing me to freely travel between the islands though not all islands are currently open to me. Combat also continues to get better as I continue to unlock new skills, the newest addition to my repertoire is the ability to do power attacks, I can now hold down the X button at different times in my combos to perform more devestating attacks which has added a much needed new layer to the sword play. Muskeets continue to be a massive lifesaver, i'm sure voodoo has its benefits but i'm really glad I went with guns. I will say that I did encounter my first freeze during a load screen, completely locked up my 360 so I had to shut it down but 1 time in 15 hours is still way better than Skyrim which I lost count on how many times it locked up on me.

!!!!!UPDATE 3!!!!! 30 hours into the game and while i'm still loving it I will say that technical issues become more of a problem the further into the game you go, its almost like maybe they were running out of time so they had to start rushing so quality control started to take a hit. I've experienced several freeze's now, only once during actual gameplay though, the freeze always seems to happen when moving between islands and trying to load up the new location, its not a big deal though, it doesn't happen frequently and i've just gotten into the habit of saving before travaling to a new destination. The frame rate seems to take a hit whenever it rains so thats been a bit annoying but my biggest complaint of all would be that in the Treasure Island dlc the pirate Harlock seems to have glitched out and not appeard on the beach for me to deal with his setting me up, oh well, I guess sailing away and leaving him stranded there is punishment enough. Like I said though despite these issues i'm still very much enjoying the game. I love the main character, i've nearly maxed out my gun skills so now i'm blasting my way though enemies without much oposition. I met the gnomes which were pretty darn funny and i'm really looking forward to see how it all turns out.

!!!!!Final Update!!!!! So I beat the game yesterday, my play time was just shy of 40 hours and that was with doing every single sidequest I came across as well as both dlc's so for an open world rpg it was a little on the short side but still a very satisfying experience that I would highly recommend. There is no post game though so make sure you do everything you want to before heading to the final battle or keep a save file handy if you want to go back and do more since once you've dealt with the final boss its all over. The story was entertaing, the voice acting well done and the combat really a cake walk after those first few tough hours but like I said I went with guns so I can't comment on the voodoo so if you go that route your experience will probably be vastly different.

Honest reviews on Risen 2: Dark Waters - Complete Package - Xbox 360 (Special Edition)

Great game, alot of fun. Better than the first game which I also liked. A fun filled pirate world to explore.

A BIG improvement over Risen 1. I'll address each of the two major improvements separately:

MUCH IMPROVED GRAPHICS

While the first game wasn't exactly hideous, per se, it certainly wasn't going to win any awards. This game, however, portrays its island jungle setting in a more convincing matter. Character models are greatly improved, as are weather effects. Some things will have you rolling your eyes at the lack of attention to detail, but way less than last time around. To top it off, the art direction (pirate themed EVERYTHING) makes for a more unique feel as opposed to the somewhat generic look of the last game.

SOMEWHAT IMPROVED GAMEPLAY

The melee combat of the first game could be summarized as such: "Mash the attack button." This game has done away with some of the more redundant combat ideas and replaced them with simpler, easier to execute concepts that mean you'll be actually using them. The XP mechanic is also much simpler and effective, meaning that you'll actually get stronger in the ways you want to, making things easier on you. I mean, who wants to be a crappy swordsman just because you can't find a trainer? In Risen 2, that's a much smaller issue. In addition, getting hit in the back all the time will be less of a worry, as the game has added a much more fleshed out companion system, meaning you'll be dealing with things more effective as a duo, most of the time.

If you liked the first, you'll like this one, and if you didn't like the first, you might STILL like this one due to its improvements. If you can stomach the full asking price, maybe just rent it, or wait for it to come down on the price. I think it's worth playing, and I think you'll agree.

I just started playing this game yesterday, and as of now my mission status says that I'm 11% finished. So far this game has done everything to amaze me. First of all the city is ENORMOUS! I cant believe that Rockstar was able to squeeze this much information and detail into a tiny DS cartridge. Not only is it large, but it is also incredibly detailed. You wont see any "Flintstones" type backgrounds where the same buildings repeat several times, or you keep seeing the same park every few miles. Anyhow, onto a few points I've noticed about this game.

First of all, this game is DEFINITELY for adults only. Parents, DO NOT get this game for your 10 year olds birthday. There is (so far) sexual innuendo, graphic violence, and liberal use of the F word.

Second I hadn't read any press about this game prior to playing it, but I was hoping for some licensed songs to make it to the soundtrack. The music, while good, is nothing recognizable and serves as little more than background. Honestly I cant fault the developers as this game is already full of other features. Also, there is little to no voice acting again, what can you honestly expect in a game this size (might I add the largest DS game made to date).

Third Most everything about this game has been executed flawlessly. The cutscenes, the aiming mechanism, the driving physics, the "mini" tasks that you must do such as hot wiring a car, disarming a bomb, or hacking a security system Everything is perfect. Honestly, in my day of playing this game I have yet to find anything which I can fault. It really is that good.

I predict that this will become the #1 Nintendo DS game very soon, unseating Mario Kart, which has been #1 for quite a while now here at Amazon. This game is nothing less than a masterpiece and is reason in itself to pick up a DS if you don't already own one.

Chinatown Wars somehow manages to push the technology in the DS more than anything I've seen. On top of that, the developer has managed to make one of the largest and most in depth games on the system as well. I won't go so far as to say this is the best game on the DS, but I am nothing short of impressed. This game isn't some attempt to make a quick buck... the developers went out of their way to do a great job.

GRAPHICS: Fully 3-d environment with an amazing amount of detail all presented in cell shaded style. You can even read many of the billboards and signs on the buildings even though the game is presented in a top-down perspective. There is so much detail in the graphics I am constantly discovering new things every time I boot the game up. My only major complaint about the graphics is that I think story-board presentation is flat, lifeless, and kind of ugly.

SOUND: Sadly this game doesn't have the quality of sound that the big console versions have. The funny, wacky radio stations with hours of dialogue are gone, but that isn't surprising since this is a DS game. The sound that the game gives us is still pretty good though and above average for most DS games.

CONTROLS: Probably the weakest part of this game, the controls are still very solid. Driving a vehicle with the d-pad on the DS can cause a lot of fatigue, but that's more a problem with the DS than the controls themselves. While running around on foot the camera sometimes gets positioned at a bad angle and requires re-centering constantly. A moderate annoyance, honestly. More annoying is the fact that I have trouble finding the "sweet spot" where you can hijack a vehicle, which sometimes results in me slowly walking around the vehicle pressing the button until my character climbs in. Combat controls are pretty solid and the lock-on feature works very nicely. In fact, the lock-on is almost a little to easy to use. Selecting weapons and throwing weapons is kind of clunky and requires use of the stylus, but it still works.

STORY: This is a standard Grand Theft Auto crime story with a lot of contrived elements. You are a member of the Triad aspiring to avenge your father's death and uphold the family honor. Entertaining and often humorous at times, but nothing amazing.

GAMEPLAY: Lots of stuff to do in a huge city with three major islands. The DS game has almost the level of depth of the preceding console versions.

>> In addition to standard GTA style missions (travel here, do something, come back to hideout), the game offers many other distractions: scratch lotto cards, drug dealing, ambulance rescue, security camera destruction, insane jumps, buying property, and so on and so on. The amount of stuff to do is almost overwhelming if you are a completionist.

>> The game has a very enjoyable and solid driving and physics engine which emphasizes wild arcade driving action.

>> Taxi system for those times when you don't want to actually take the time to drive to a location. Helps eliminate some of the repetition you would otherwise experience in the game.

>> Clever and intelligent use of the stylus for hot wiring cars, making Molotov cocktails, etc.

>> Police chases are really fun and focus less on escape and instead emphasize disabling the police cruisers, a welcome change in the GTA formula. Very fun.

>> A mission replay feature is available in Chinatown wars. I love this because in previous GTA games it wasn't possible to replay my favorite missions over after completing them. It is a great feature that should have been in the previous games from day one.

REPLAY VALUE: Game length is pretty hefty for a DS title. Based on my current percentage of completion I expect about 12 to 16 hours of gameplay, but that is only if I were to plow straight through the missions and ignore all of the interesting stuff to do off the beaten path. To get 100% completion I expect at I'll have to pour in at least 25 hours of gameplay, possibly much more... I can't really tell. Multiplayer is present in this game with couple of modes, but I haven't tried any of them out yet.

All in all, GTA: Chinatown Wars is one of the most full-featured games to be released on the DS. I'd prefer to give the game only 4.5 stars, but since Amazon doesn't allow half-stars I'll give it the benefit of the doubt and round up to a rare 5-star rating. I highly recommend this mature-themed title to every fan of the GTA series or to anyone looking for a quality crime-themed action title.

Best Deals for Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars - Sony PSP

Set in GTA IV's Liberty City, Chinatown Wars goes back to the classic GTA over-top view with a more animated approach and is much more enjoyable to play then Liberty and Vice City stories bar none. The gunplay, driving, side missions have a more arcade feel to it which is what easier to play then the previous PSP GTAs.

The cut scenes are a let down, no talking just reading and loud annoying music playing throughout, I found my self skipping over them there is no menu option to turn off cut scene music.

Because you have the over-top view the gunplay has a easier sense of play to it, you can run and shoot easier switching weapons is brought up by pressing `select' and is easy to maneuver dozens of dumpsters to find extra guns. I just wish they gave you a little more bullets when you find guns because I feel like I run-out even when I try to stock up.

The driving is fun and fairly simple to do, however I felt it was to unforgiving here you got a small screen driving through a big city I can never drive without crashing it seems, you drive under the train tracks or something and they tracks don't dim thy stay solid so you can't see your car when you're driving under it, driving at night the light from the light posts can look like on-coming cars if you're drving fast enough so is sometimes hard to maneuver they should have made the streets just a little bigger, and I would've liked to see motorcycles drive like cars, they're all over the road and very hard control if you wanna drive fast which is what you want to do in a GTA game.

I never knew drug dealing could be so fun and addictive, it's an easy way to get a lot of money, buy cheap and sell high and with drug dealers `tip-offs' you can find good deals. I got so addicted I started playing those side missions more then the story missions.

Evading cops has never been beter, if you're driving away from the cops and you make the squad car crash the normally bold yellow star will fade and if you behave it will go away, the higher your wanted level the more the cops will try to stop you and more to stop for you.

I like the little thing the game has you do, like stealing a parked car you twist the analog to unscrew bolts to hot wire cars, flip the L and R buttons to dig threw garbage dumpsters or to break the windshield out of your car. These are fun little ways to better engage you in the game, they're easy to do and you never get the sense of frustration.

This is one of PSP's best games to date and a great installment for Grand Theft Auto. If you own a PSP and you should own this game.

Honest reviews on Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars - Sony PSP

I honestly didn't know just what to expect upon hearing of the looming release of Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars on the DS. I had figured that there would be little to no chance of the game bearing any sort of resemblance to the franchise we all know and love. Well, I was wrong. Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars is a stunning achievement in every sense of the word, as the series' debut on the DS not only manages to retain nearly everything that made the series so great and revolutionary on home consoles, but in some cases even improves on them. Taking place in Liberty City, Chinatown Wars finds you in the shoes of Huang, who is looking to avenge the death of his gangster father. While the game provides a good story and memorable enough characters, Chinatown Wars also features the tried and true classic GTA gameplay, which is a surprise and an achievement in themselves in translating all of these features to the DS. Translating the Liberty City from GTA IV is also brilliantly done, and there are tons of side missions and optional activities, along with two-player multiplayer modes; all of which will keep you busy for quite some time. The game's graphics can appear occasionally grainy in some spots, but for the most part, achieving these kinds of visuals on the DS needs to be seen to be believed. Chinatown Wars also makes great use of the touch screen and stylus features, and does so without over-complicating things as well. All in all, Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars isn't only the best third-party game to hit the DS yet, it is a stunning achievement that needs to be in the hands of every DS owner. Even if you aren't that much of a GTA fan but you own a DS, Chinatown Wars is definitely worth playing at the very least, and stands as one of the best games available for the handheld.

Finally the ever so popular GTA hits the ever so popular DS! You can tell a whole lot of effort has been put into this game. The graphics look great and it is a BIG DS game. The town is HUGE. Its addictive and it still gives you that GTA feel to it. Its the same sandbox enviroment and you can do missions. The only thing I don't like is the fact that the game is in bird's eye view. Driving can get a little confusing but you'll get used to it. I have a feeling this game would be a best seller.

NOTE: This game is for mature audiences only. If you are willing to buy this for your kid, make sure he/she is mature enough.

WWE Day of Reckoning 2 - Gamecube Review

WWE Day of Reckoning 2 - Gamecube
Customer Ratings: 4 stars

This year's WWE wrestling game for the Nintendo Gamecube features better visuals, an updated roster, some new wrestling moves, and improved gameplay through new stamina and submission systems. Pretty much every aspect of gameplay in Day of Reckoning 2 (DoR2) is better than the original Day of Reckoning. Improved visuals make for better-looking wrestlers and CAW's (Create A Wrestler; your own custom-made wrestler). The new stamina system reflects the real-world inability to endlessly pound on someone without taking an occasional rest break. The story mode adds a new twist of managing skill points (grappling, aerial, submission, etc.) in addition to physical attribute points (strength, speed, etc.). It takes at least two passes through the story mode to create a perfect wrestler. In a nice touch, you can restart the story mode if you find a part of it too difficult to pass, and keep your wrestler's earned attributes intact.

The new camera system focuses on the active wrestlers instead of showing the entire wrestling ring, and has both positive and negative aspects. The camera system attempts to keep the active wrestlers as large as possible on the screen, which makes them appear more true-to-life, but sacrifices "ring awareness" in return. "Inactive" wrestlers, such as your opponent's tag-team partner, interfering wrestlers in singles matches, or new entrants in Royal Rumble competition, are mostly kept off-screen by the new camera system unless you actively engage them. When these wrestlers are off-screen, it is difficult to keep track of their whereabouts to avoid their attacks and interference with your pin-fall and submission holds.

There are a few things that stayed the same in DOR2, including the inability of female CAW's to participate in Bra-and-Panties matches. The only aspect where Day of Reckoning 2 seems to have regressed is in the artificial intelligence of its characters. In single-player Triple Threat, Fatal Four Way, and Royal Rumble matches, your opponents seem to only concentrate on attacking your wrestler, making these matches difficult to win.

Beyond the three major goals of completing the story mode, earning enough money to buy everything in the WWE Shop, and unlocking the five hidden characters; there is little in DoR2 to hold one's interest for long. The continued exclusion of championship belts from Exhibition mode makes DoR2 boringly repetitive once those goals are accomplished. If you don't have a wrestling game for the GameCube, then Day of Reckoning 2 is the one to get. If you already own Day of Reckoning, you can safely skip this game for something more interesting unless you are buying the game for an avid wrestling fan. DoR2 does not add enough new features to make the game a compelling purchase.

I've spent the better part of Labor Day weekend glued to this game. If you liked the first Day of Reckoning, you will like the second installment just as much, if not more.

Pros:

The controls and gameplay are exactly like the first. It's very fluid and easy to manage. Not much has changed here and I'm glad that they didn't mess with it.

The AI is much improved. I've played numerous Tag Team matches and the CPU is much smarter than before. Now they will cut off the ring and keep you on their side. They tend to throw you into the turnbuckle and perform a lot of double-team moves. If one of them is pinning you, the other will jump into the ring to try and prevent your partner from breaking up the count. If, by chance, the CPU is whooping you up on your side of the ring, they will knock down your partner before they try to pin you. Don't worry, it's not to the point where it's totally unfair. In my opinion, this makes for a much more enjoyable game. It's a little peskier, but definitely more realistic and fun.

The storyline is also improved. You must still use your created wrestler to play in the Story Mode. In the first DoR, you basically went through the same storyline with each franchise. This time, you start off on RAW and eventually find yourself on Smackdown. The biggest improvement to the storyline is that there are a few occassions where you are asked to choose your destiny. For example, you are given the choice of choosing your Tag Team partner when both of those wrestlers approach you and express interest in pairing up with you. I've only come across about two or three of these instances so far so I only know one storyline. I assume (and hope) that if I had chosen the other options, I would be in a totally different scenario. Nonetheless, just having the option to make choices is an upgrade over the first game.

The Create-A-Wrestler is about as deep and intuitive as the first. I've heard that there might be a few less features but I haven't really noticed. When creating your wrestler, you must now take into consideration his/her Skills when you are distributing his/her Attribute points. The Skills are what you need to raise in order to unlock new moves. There are several Skills categories including Grappling, Striking and Dirty Tactics. As your Skill level rises in each category, new moves will become available to you. As a result, you must find a good balance when you distribute your points. If you distribute too many Attribute points, you will be stuck with very weak and unimpressive moves.

Also new to CAW is your Call Name and Location. Just like in real wrestling, there will be a ring announcer who says the name, location and weight of the wrestler who is about to enter the arena. While this is a neat feature, the Call Name is limited to a number of preset recordings that are pretty generic (ie. The Alien and The Monster). Actual names are included as well but you will need a common name like David or Jennifer to be able to use this. If you don't like those, you don't need to use the Call Name.

The graphics are great and a lot better than the first DoR! Everything is so much smoother and cleaner. The faces are more detailed. This game probably has the best facial reproduction that I've seen in a video game. New camera angles are also another fine addition.

Cons:

The game's soundtrack is lacking. All the wrestler's themes are there, don't worry. But there is no licensed music on this game like there was in the first. Now there are a bunch of cheesy rock instrumentals to take its place. They're not too bad but they're not great either.

There are still no voice-overs. All the dialogue is still in plain text across the screen.

Summary:

As you can see, there aren't too many negatives to this game. What negatives there are don't take away from the overall experience either. This is a great game and a worthy sequel in the DoR franchise.

Best Deals for WWE Day of Reckoning 2 - Gamecube

It's da bomb! The graphics are as realistic as it gets and every bit of your brain can be used. When you're on a submission, there's one of four pain choices to choose from (drain, submit, taunt, and rest). Your opponent must choose the same choice as you in order to escape the hold.

The new stamina is slightly awesome. almost every move you make reduces your stamina a bit. Sounds bad? Actually, it's part of the realism. See, once your stamina's gone, your person gets tired and weakens everything. But, a good rest will restore your stamina.

Story mode continues where the first DoR left off. Your titles gone, and you must win it back. Although one of the main objectives is winning the championship, another thing is important to the storyline, and that's a personnal rivalry. I not at that part yet because i'm stuck on Summerslam, a nearly impossible match (a fatal-four-way cage)

CAW is top-notch, but a bit inferior to the first DoR, because in order to access a move, you must raise a stat attribute. And many must be raised quite high.

Anyway, this game rules. When it comes to getting this game, TRUST NO ONE!

REKANIZE!!!

This game is GREAT. I love the season mode as well. and don't worry there are no "GLITCHES" in this game unlike WM21 for Xbox. Over all worth buying if you like the first DOR.

My cousin bought this game the 4th day it came out and we started playing it. We were impressed, very impressed. DOR2 has more to this game then the 1st one. The graphics are amazing. New characters like Eugene, Muhamad Hussan, Rene Dupree (Comes out with fe'fe), Cristy Hemmy, (But no Lita grrrr). I'm kind of saden about the legends though not really. Stone Cold Steve Austin, Hogan, The Rock, and Mankind (But no Andre). The New submission and Stamina system are great in this game. There are a couple of glitches and loading sucks. But other than that This game beats all other wrestling games. This maybe the last THQ wrestling game for GC (Probably DOR3 for Revolution) but this is the greatest of all time. Don't rent it.
