I did this video review to help anyone out there with the same issues I had.

Hopefully this will help gain the insight you'll need to make a decision.

Please leave feedback, did I miss anything?

I purchased this AX180 on January 17, 2010. In spite of my headphones being handled with care and never abused in any manner whatsoever, they broke apart on the left side where the earphone connects to the headband. The earphone now dangles from the headband by one wire and are completely unfixable and totally unuseable.

The sound was very good from them and the mic also worked very well. It really is a very good sounding headset. Unfortunately, as with other reviewers of these, I've come to find out that they really are a cheaply constructed waste of money.

The way the earphone is connected to the headband is very poorly designed and constructed. If yours hasn't come apart yet, they are ready to at any moment.

We'll see how Tritton customer service handles this. Even if Tritton replaces them, which I'm sure they will, I give these a DO NOT BUY recommendation.

UPDATED:

I called Tritton Technologies and spoke to a very nice person in their customer service dept.. They were very friendly and didn't hesitate to offer a replacement. They gave me an RMA number and I will be sending these back(at my expense which will probably be about five bucks) and I will be getting them replaced. Other than me having to pay out of my pocket to send these back to them, the Tritton customer service handled it the way all companies should.

With that said, I still give this headset a one star rating for poor construction quality and I will give the company customer service a four star rating for their no questions asked approach to dealing with me. I would have given their customer service a five star rating if they paid for postage to send the broken headset to them.

Overall, the headset still gets a DO NOT BUY from me because I know they will easily break and are worth no amount of money. Sadly, I'm certain that the new replacements Tritton sends to me will also break very quickly. I know nothing about the other Tritton models and if the ax180 is any indication of how their other models are made, I don't want to.

UPDATED PART 2:

I receied my new headset from Tritton after about a two week wait from the day I mailed the broken ones to them.

They work great just like the other ones did. I'm hoping that by me changing the way I put them on and take them off they will last longer and prevent the ear cup from breaking. Instead of pulling directly on the left and right ear cups to put them on and take them off my head, which is how most people put on these headphones, I have changed to pulling on the headband part of the headphones only and I try not to exert any pulling pressure on the ear cups as I put them on and off.

UPDATED PART 3:

As of 7/2/2010, the ax180 microphone has now quit functioning on the headset. I called Tritton and they asked me to plug the mic into my computer to see if I could record something with it in order to see if the mic itself is working or not. The mic functioned fine when used on my PC, so there must be a wiring probelm in the headset causing the mic not to work while attached to the headset.

They gave me another RMA # and I have sent it back.....at my cost. We'll see what happens.

I bought these to use with the PS3. The hookup isn't completely obvious if you want to hook it up to just the PS3 and not through the TV (you need the Multi-AV out cable that came with the PS3, even if you use HDMI). But once I figured out the cabling and configured the PS3 to use the Multi-AV out for sound and HDMI for video it worked great. The stereo sound is good enough to pick up general directions. And I'm hearing sound effects in the game that I didn't know existed. Its easy to get immersed in the game play that way. So in effect these headphones add value to my $60 games.

The headset fits comfortably even over my large melon. After a few hours of gaming, though, my jaw starts to feel fatigued from the pressure. But the comfort over the ears is perfect.

The mic seems to be working fine as other people on line can hear me. Having it detachable is a nice convenience as these could double as standalone headphones.

The volume/mic controller is well laid out. The mic mute switch is the biggest button on the controller so finding it in the dark is not a problem.

The only CON I have is when no game audio is playing there is a slight buzzing. From what I understand that is a grounding issue with the PS3, not the headphones. But during the gameplay I can't hear it even when I try to. I haven't tried the headphones on anything besides the PS3 so I can't confirm this.

The cabling isn't too bad. The headphone cable is 12' long which is about where you should be for a 42-50" HDTV anyway.

I'd recommend these to anyone wanting to pipe all game play audio and have chat capabilities.

UPDATE (8/30/10):

After a few months of using the headphones I'm still satisfied with the sound/mic but as others have had problems with the construction, so have I. There is enough pressure on the ear pads that over time the thin plastic that holds the length adjustments of the headphones to the headband broke. I was lucky enough to have the pieces just fold off instead of break so I was able to McGyver them back into a functioning form with some bits of metal and duct tape. I'm not pleased with the fact they broke within the year but I don't want to send them back at my cost. I'll just bear with the cosmetic issue of tape and metal on the headphones. I'm lucky enough to have a head tall enough to allow the extra bulk of having tape wound around the area of the breakage but if I needed to push the headphones closer to the head rest I'd be out of luck. I'd bring the rating down to a 3 star due to the obvious construction issues.

Honest reviews on Tritton TRIAX-180 AX 180 Stereo Gaming Headset for Xbox 360

Had this headset since Christmas of 09'. Comfort, sound and price were all outstanding. My headset hasn't fallen apart on me yet. (knocks on wood) I hear everything in COD MW2.

I have had the headsets for a little over a week now and so far, they have been great. I use these nearly 5 hours a night and unplug/store them after each use. The sound quality is great for me, I am by no means an audiophile and for the price the audio quality is beyond what I expected. The mic has received good reviews from players on the other end of my Ventrillo conversations, far better than the previous set of Plantronics I had. I have primarily used them connected to a Mac with limited to use on my Xbox 360. I have yet to try them out on the PS3.

So far the construction quality seems solid. Again at the time of this writing I've only logged around 40 hours of use with these. If anything changes, I will update my review.

Update to this review: I've now had this headset for a few months and I absolutely love them. They are used once or twice a week for several hours a session across multiple devices. I have traveled several times with these headsets as well for LAN parties. The headsets have held up quite well and show no signs of wear. The ear fit is perfect and for the price they do exactly what I want them to.

*** Update: A year and a half later and I have experienced NO durability issues with these headsets. I still use them regularly. If you take care of them and don't abuse your hardware they should last.

I like this game and there are plenty of game variations during the rounds. The reason I only gave it four stars is because it asks the same questions and shows the same scenes most of the time we play it and there really aren't any recent movies (most are from the 80s or 90s). EVen with those two flaws, my family still has fun playing it.

Review of Sonic Heroes - Xbox

Sonic Heroes - Xbox
Customer Ratings: 4 stars
Buy Now
Sonic heroes is a graceful and excellent attempt at combining adventure, speed, exploration, and it cleverly destroys repetition in the process.

The game's base is simple. You can take control of 4 teams, team sonic, team dark, team rose, and team chaotix. This is where the game truly shines, the 4 different teams give sonic heroes a sense of replayability unlike any game before it. Games like jak and Daxter, Super mario sunshine, and voodoo vince really don't have anything on this game in terms of replayabality.

However, instead of stopping there, sonic team decided to make the levels truly brilliant. The levels are different, vigrant and alive. THe fact that this is a non stop thrill ride through picure perfect levels completely rocks.

It is sad, though, that the minor problems from this game garnered bad reviews from bigger magazines and .coms. For instance, falling through levels is a bad glitch in the game. It will piss you off, the targeting system also goes wacko alot of the time. 90% of the time this isn't a problem but be noted, this isn't a perfect bugless title.

Anything else that sucks? Ya, the voices, nolstalgia for kids and fans of the show but another degrading element.

DO the bugs and the voices make this a bad game? No, the multiple gameplay styles and awesome experience shouldn't be left out. If you buy one game this year it should be this one, it really hits gold.

I don't know what this game is like for the other two platforms, but on Xbox, it's a tad confusing. The game gets away with this by giving you control of three characters at once and dividing the characters up into four different teams--Team Sonic, Team Dark, Team Rose, and Team Chaotix. Each team member has his or her own strengths, and your abilities as a team change depending on which character you have set as the team leader. The inclusion of the four different teams, however, seems a bit pointless since the game is virtually identical for all four of the teams, save for some different story elements in between levels. To be blunt, no one cares about these peripheral characters that Sonic Team seems hell-bent on pushing on gamers. People play Sonic games to play as Sonic the Hedgehog.

Unfortunately, the game suffers from a problematic, finicky camera, occasionally spastic controls, and some bad clipping. The level designs are pretty straightforward, though you'll occasionally find portions that aren't entirely intuitive. Moreover, it's likely that you'll find yourself plummeting into a bottomless nothing without any idea of what you did wrong more than once. This is a rental, for sure.

This is excactly how i wanted this game to be like. Super speed, super sound, super graphics, gameplay, super heros! A bunch of levels. There are four teams to choose from, each team with their own difficulty level and missions. THere are about 10-12 missions for each team, and each team has their own special team move, (Team sonics is my favorite.) PLus! the missions aren't that hard, and arent that easy, so it will take u a fare amount of time to beat them, but it isn't overly frustrating, like most games are now a days. Dispose of all of the lousy reviews of this game, their just being fussy, this is the real review for this game. Go Sonic!

this is not what I was hoping for. I have played several other sonic games and this one didn't measure up. not the seller's fault, just a clash withj me.

Received my purchase quickly and it works good. Doesn't charge as fast as name brand by Microsoft, but still gets a good charge in (The batteries may have charged slow because its first charge). I bought this to upgrade from the charge cable, which will fry your batteries or not charge correctly. Not at all disappointed. But hey, whos knows of the future? I'll update this review if anything happens.

It doesn't seem to have happened yet and hopefully it wont, but the last time i stuck a Nyko battery in a charging station it done went and melted. Be wary...

Addition: Did some really crappy math for the battery life, They should and seem to last about 8.5 to 9.6 hours. 2400mAh ÷ 250mA = 9.6 hours

However, not being name brand and made with cheaper materials. I would assume the total lifespan is much shorter than name brand. Maybe we will pay more in the long run?

UPDATE 10/16/2012: Just wanted to update this while im on amazon looking at my amazing and yet sloppy reviews. This product is still working very well, absolutely no problems what so ever. I was right about the battery life as well. They last 9 Hours. Technically 7 8 considering this is the time your controller does the really annoying blinking and your like "F&@! it! Ill change the battery!" But everything is great, my batteries are allows charged and i actually like it better than name brand. Note: Better than Name Brand.

i dont understand why my questions were about a game when it was an accessory, but I give it 4 stars overall. The price was amazing! I couldn't have paid less anywhere. I love not having to run through packs of batteries just to play video games. The batteries stay charged for a long time, and they really don't take that long to recharge. It is great that it came with two battery packs. It allowed for continual play. There is no more having to wait for one to charge. :)

Best Madcatz/Saitek RB Replica Wireless Guitar Deals

Madcatz/Saitek RB Replica Wireless Guitar
Customer Ratings: 5 stars

The official Xbox 360 Rock Band Wireless Fender Wooden Stratocaster Replica is a work of art as much as it is a gaming tribute. It's every-bit as beautiful as the real thing. It is the REAL thing sans strings replaced by buttons and a strum bar. Every positive thing you'll read in these user reviews is true. Unfortunately, it does have some defects. While I haven't had any issue with buttons jamming or the start and back knobs getting in the way of the whammy bar, the whammy bar itself is just too damn loose a particular problem with "real" stratocasters. Gravity will always pull the whammy bar down and out of reach unless it's cradled under your hand while strumming. Obviously, this isn't a deal-breaker, but it makes using the unattended whammy bar nearly impossible on hard and expert because you have take your hand away from the strummer to grab it. If it weren't for this glaring flaw, I'd have given this five stars easily.

Click Here For Most Helpful Customer Reviews >>

Guitar is well constructed and will last, unlike the plastic ones. I have owned 2 of these for over a year now and the strummer and buttons work like they did when I bought them. These are basically a Fender guitar modified to be a gaming guitar and everything about it is heavy duty and built to last. I noticed immediately that I played better as these guitar controllers are more precise. The are bigger and heavier, like real guitars, so that took a little getting used to and can be tough on younger children.

If you are left handed you may want to consider that you will have to do some modifications on your own for the strap placement. Although knowing what I know now, I would still purchase this guitar and modify its strap if I was left handed.

Best Deals for Madcatz/Saitek RB Replica Wireless Guitar

Besides the awesome look, this thing really performs. It is the first time I've had a guitar (controller) that really works for both up and down strokes. The buttons are seamless and the smoothest I've ever played. This really stepped my game up to the next level. The only note that I'd make is the length. It is about 6-8" longer than a standard controller, so it took a little bit to get used to, but very worth it. I highly recommend this to anyone looking to really step up their game-play.

Background; I play a lot and tend to wear out controllers. I have a full Ion drum set as well, so this was just a logical next step anyway. I'm an Expert/Hard player and in the 3% range on the leaderboard for both guitar and pro drums.

Honest reviews on Madcatz/Saitek RB Replica Wireless Guitar

This is simply a fantastic guitar controller. It's a full sized wooden body guitar so it is big and heavy, but the fret buttons are great and tilt mechanism is flawless. Highly recommended for the serious RockBand player.

BIG NOTE: the strum-bar on this guitar is super-clicky, so if you love the RB2 and hate GH guitars, think twice. I hate the click but still love the guitar and am trying to figure out a way to mod the strumbar.

Find helpful customer reviews and review ratings for Madcatz/Saitek RB Replica Wireless Guitar

I purchased this on sale at Amazon for about $100. At that price this was well worth it. I don't really play Rockband nearly as much as I did when the game was released. Back story: In a relatively short period of time I went through 3 of the original guitars. The first (the original RB wired version) died of strum bar failure although I was able to open it up and jury rig a fix. The second (the wireless RB version) failed on overdrive activation (but otherwise was functional), the third (the wireless from the RB2 bundle) doesn't register the yellow fret unless pressed very directly (pressure must be straight down on the key hard if you have small hands). I pretty much gave up on the game because of the quality of guitar peripherals (I remain somewhat miffed that at the low durability of such expensive add ons). Oh, that tiny little spring for the whammy bars also broke on the first two (although winding a rubberband around the outside of the bar to the bottom guitar strap peg fixes that problem)

So, I purchased this version on a whim and since my friends still like to break out the game every now and then. I can say the feel is excellant the extra weight feels good once you get used to it. More to the point the strum bar (although it is clicky) is very solid and seems like it will hold up over time (there is very little play in it and the return action is good so strummer can use this without getting the double strums that happen when the bar is too loose).

So, I would say if you intend to play a lot you might actually save some money (and certainly some frustration) by buying something like this. However, I would also say that at the normal price I would consider this too expensive personally.

This is an exalent fishing game. I "caught" on really fast. A tip for the first timers, look for the yellow arrows and press them with the d-pad when reeling the fish in. If you are can't figure out how to set the hook, check the fish info (It also tells you where to find them, with temp and depth. That is also shown on your radar.). Anyways this is an suberb fishing games for game freaks (like me) or real fisherman (also like me).

Sup dreamcast gurus! I just got Rush 2049 a couple days ago. It is the best thing I own. First, the graphics are slick, colorful and smooth, with little slowdown. Second, the sound is realistic and the techno soundtrack is awesome. Third, the gameplay. Oh god the gameplay. You get an "I'm not worthy" feeling when you see a sweet shortcut and realize by taking it you're missing about 20 more, the levels are so huge. For example...I drove up the side of a building, straight up, and landed. There was a whole network of other buildings up there that you could jump on to grab more bonus coins, or simply jump 1000 feet to your doom. How's that for complexity? How's this for a competitive edge--you are driving along, some jerk is in front of you and has cut you off. You hit a red switch on the ground and blam!!!! out comes a huge stone fist from a wall, out of nowhere, that smears him, while you zoom by him. Funniest thing in the world. Also, there are plenty of things to unlock so you'll never be bored (160 coins to find). The stunt mode is creative and mind-blowing. The wings let you do tricks you've never thought possible. Plus, the battle mode which is singlehandedly better than the whole Twisted Metal series is sweet. The weapons are hilarious too. Why buy stiff, stuffy, boring racing games where all you do is circle the same track repetitively (like Gran Turismo)? Why not hurtle through a windy clear full-pipe at 180 mph and fly past the competition instead of worry about "torque" and "cornering" and your geeky italian sports cars? Buy Rush instead.

OK, so you like racing games....thats great, I don't really. But there is this battle mode in this San Francisco Rush 2049 game that is wicked ru. I have been playing nonstop for close to 2 years and I never get tired of it. The physics are excellent, and well are the courses. You keep discovering new jumps and possiblities with each play. The weapons are perfectly designed. There are limes, tube stick, pews, green gun, machinis, emp, balls, and assram. Of course these are the names we came up for the warpens, but you can make an argument that any one of these is the best weapon in the game. they are complement each other perfectly. This game is absolutely perfect, the only downside is you have to play the racing and stunt mode to unlock all the cars! stoop.

Best Deals for San Francisco Rush 2049

The battle mode for this game will force you to quit your job and use your last pay check on energy drinks. You will wonder why games like this havnt been made since then and if they do exist where are they?

Honest reviews on San Francisco Rush 2049

It doesn't matter if you are black... or white. This is the most exciting, challenging, strategimus oriented multiplayer in the history of games. It requires supreme tactimus to execute a long-distance greening, or aggressive lime-maying. There is an obvious advantage if you can gain control of tubesticks and limes, but the tables can turn if you get bubble and regain the limes. That is of course unless someone does the deed!

Find helpful customer reviews and review ratings for San Francisco Rush 2049

I can't really speak for the single player version of this game, but if you've got 4 people to play the multiplayer battle mode, it is absolutely the greatest thing ever. Even in 2012, there isn't any game that is better than a good 4 person battle mode session.

INTRODUCTION

Mass Effect, by Electronic Arts (EA), sets the benchmark for third person role playing actions games. It is as close to a DVD movie as a video game can get, because, unlike most first person games, players can see and hear the player character as well as the non-player characters (NPCs). This movie-like quality greatly enhances the compelling story, which is the hallmark of the Mass Effect Trilogy.

THE PLOT

**Spoiler Alert**

This second episode of the Mass Effect Trilogy begins with the death (yes, DEATH) of Commander Shepard, in a fiery ambush of the Normandy, two years after he/she defeated the traitorous Saren Arterius in the battle of the Citadel. But, thank the goddess, he/she is later resurrected in Project Lazarus by the Illusive Man, leader of Cerberus, a shadowy and ruthless "human supremacist" organization, for the sole purpose of sending the legendary commander to investigate a new cataclysmic event in the Galaxy entire human colonies have been vanishing without a trace, leaving behind empty buildings. To confront the threat, Shepard travels across the Galaxy to recruit up to a dozen of the most dangerous characters to his/her elite team, at locations including Illium, an asari colony, and Omega, a lawless mining station built on a hollowed out asteroid in the Terminus Systems, for a mission from which every member of the team, including Commander Shepard, may never return.

**End of Possible Spoilers**

THE CHARACTERS

Players who had completed Mass Effect 1 (ME1) can import a Save Game from the list of Character Saves into Mass Effect 2 (ME2). During the file transfer, they have the option of changing the class of Commander Shepard, for example, from adept to vanguard, as well as his/her physical characteristics. This is possible in the storyline on account of Project Lazarus--a very clever way of putting Shepard on reset. If Shepard was imported at a high level in ME1, players will be awarded with bonus squad points and research metals at the start. (See my comment dated 2/3/10.) All the NPCs who were alive at the end of the ME1 are transferred. Furthermore, the story in ME2 unfolds in accordance with the decisions made by the players in ME1, for example, whether Shepard set the Rachni queen free in Noveria, whether he/she resolved the conflict with Wrex on Virmire peacefully, or whether he/she called in the human fleet to save the Council in the battle of the Citadel. The main storyline, however, remains unchanged. For those who never play ME1, ME2 can be played stand-alone with new characters and certain pre-set assumptions on events in ME1. (See Update below) New characters in ME2 include Thane, a drell master assassin, Legion, a free-thinking geth, who is stalking Commander Shepard, and Subject Zero, a female human biotic gang and cult member, with head-to-toe tattoos. Other than the geth and the Reapers, new enemies emerge in ME2. They include the Collectors, a winged insect-like species who are suspected to be working for the Reapers, and Scions, which are grotesque experiments of the Reaper, as well as monstrous beings created by the Reapers out of other species they abducted.

THE GAME/COMBAT SYSTEM

The Artificial Intelligence (AI) and combat system have been vastly improved in ME2. Gone are those annoying texture pop-ups in ME1. So are those long elevator rides--they are replaced with loading screens. Battle scenes are more realistic: enemies are thrown against walls, limbs are blown off, and wounded fighters continue to fight by crawling on the ground. Players can hit the enemies where they place the reticles, like in a shooter. (This is not so in ME1, where hits are calculated based on the number of skill points assigned by the players to the characters.) Players can now issue attack orders to Shepard's squad mates by using the directional-pad of the controller (of the Xbox 360), and manually prompt Commander Shepard to duck behind covers. The limitless ammo is no more in ME2. It is replaced with removable "thermal clips". When a clip is spent, it must be ejected and replaced with a new one. Players are therefore advised to take note of the amount of thermo clips available during battles. Instead of only four weapon types as in ME1, there are nineteen in ME2. One of my gripes with ME1 was the lack of heavy hand-held weapons. In ME2, they are available to the soldier class player character (as well as Commander Shepard of all classes). These heavy weapons knock down multiple enemies in one gigantic blast. A sentinel class player character now dons an ablation tactical armor, which makes him/her very tough to kill. An engineer class player character can launch a drone to aid him/her in battle. An adept class player character can spawn micro-singularities around the enemies, annihilating them en masse. Tactical cloak, which renders a combatant invisible briefly, is available to an infiltrator class player character. A vanguard class player character can dash around the battlefield with a new biotic power--the "biotic charge", which propels him/her forward at tremendous speed and force, to attack or evade the enemies. There is no longer any class restriction in armor. Medi-gel, used in the ME1 to regenerate health, is replaced with auto-regeneration, although the players still need it to cast the Unity reviving power. (Note: auto-regeneration is also available in ME1, but only as an upgrade to the armors.)

THE DIALOGUE

The dialogue wheel in ME1 is the most innovative dialogue system in all the games I have ever played. When used probably, it delivers a continuous and seamless dialogue, and hence the movie-like quality of the game. In ME2, the dialogue wheel is further improved. A new "interrupt" system is introduced. When prompted by the players with the left or right trigger of the controller (of the Xbox 360), Commander Shepard can interrupt the dialogue with "heroic" or "hostile" action to get the answer he/she wants. Furthermore, instead of the previous static camera position in ME1, the camera moves around during conversations in ME2, adding further cinematic effect to the game.

THE CHOICES

Like in ME1, choices made by the players influence the outcome of the game in ME2. For example, in ME1, on the planet Virmire, Commander Shepard (and hence the players), was called upon to decide which of the two squad mates he/she would rescue; the one left behind was consumed in a subsequent nuclear blast. In the same manner, decisions of the players in ME2 throughout the game may eventually lead to the annihilation of the entire ground team in the final mission, including Commander Shepard, or the survival of every team member, or something in between. Players with a "dead" Shepard will not be able to import him/her into ME3. The same thing is true with a "dead" teammate. They can play ME3 with a generic Shepard, but not "their" Shepard. Furthermore, with Shepard killed, players can't return to the game world after the final mission and continue to play, for example, to complete a side quest, or to explore a new locale. They will have to start a new game or reload with a previous save-file and replay part of the game for a different outcome. This gives incentive to players to make sound decisions throughout the game, before heading into the final mission. (See my comment dated 4/23/10.)

THE CERBERUS NETWORK

The Cerberus Network is a cleverly designed in-game portal through which players can access "Downloadable Contents (DLCs)" from EA. Players activate this network with a one-time access code, which is included in every new game purchase. Game renters and used game buyers will have to pay for the code. This arrangement is apparently a ploy by EA to combat the rental and used game market, which has been undermining retail sales of new games. Players who access the network will receive the first DLC pack on January 26, 2010, the date on which the game is released in North America. This first DLC introduces Zaeed, a rough and tumble mercenary who will join Shepard's elite team. A future DLC will introduce the Hammerhead, a hover tank to replace the much-maligned Mako in ME1. (Note: There is no driveable vehicle in the core game.) In addition, new missions and in-game items will be released to gamers by EA through this network.

CONCLUSION

ME2 comes with 2 discs. Players have to swap discs (twice per game) at some points. There are 90 voice actors playing 546 characters with over 30,000 lines of dialogue. New voice actors in ME2 include D.C. Douglas, Martin Sheen and Adam Baldwin. In conclusion, ME2 is a role-playing game with the look and feel of a shooter. It is a must-have game of the year.

Update: A ME2 DLC called Genesis allows a new player to make major decisions in ME1 without having to play it. Check it out.

Did you want better graphics? Did you want a better shooter interface? Well, Bioware delivered...no question.

So Bioware has made a lot of changes to the game (too many to count perhaps), but one things for sure, they created a winner.

NEW COMBAT SYSTEM:

Much more like a first person shooter now; defiantly fun to shoot people and pop the head off of someone. Also doesn't matter as much what abilities you upgrade or what weapons you have; if you can aim then you can kill a bad guy.

NEW UPGRADE SYSTEM:

Can't really decide if I like this or not. There's a part of me that enjoys how much simpler everything has become and how much time I save, but I think I kind of enjoyed the in depth upgrade and weapons in the first game. This opinion may or may not be shared. Regardless, I was a little to overwhelmed by the greatness of this game to care that much.

INTERFACE WITH PREVIOUS GAME:

You'll hear little reminents of things you did in the past and you'll definitely get the feel that you had an impact, but it's not as dramatic I had expected. They hyped it up so much that your last game would have such a big impact on this one, but I haven't seen much to back that up. I was a level 55 in the first game so I got to start a few levels up in this one and they gave me a little extra cash for being rich in ME1, but it wasn't that significant. Guess I just expected a little bit more, but I have to admit that any interface with the previous game must have been hard and it's groundbreaking, so they get my respect.

HACKING/CODE BREAKING: The new system they designed for unlocking items and hacking systems is a lot more fun. Actually feels a little bit challenging and regardless of your level or path you've chosen, you'll be able to do it.

VEHICLE: Good news! There really isn't a vehicle; you'll pick where you want to go and then you'll go there. The vehicle from ME1 felt like a shopping cart with one bad wheel to me and I'm glad to see it's gone.

PLANET EXPLORATION: Pretty cool system they came up with. You'll use a radar device to explore a planets surface and then deploy pods to check for what you're looking for. This is a much improved system from just driving around in my opinion. Be ready to spend a lot of hours looking around. There's an amazing amount of land to cover in the universe. They really worked hard to give you a lot to explore and it shows. Doesn't have that empty pointless feeling that the first ME had when I was checking planets. If they weren't related to the primary objective, every planet felt the same

THE GOOD:

1) Story is great and managed to integrate with the first game to include your actions taken

2) Graphics are on par with competitive titles from this gen; really stunning to just look around at your surroundings

3) Lots of glitches fixed and too many improvements to count; some things they did were almost to small to even notice, but you can feel they're there

THE BAD:

1) New dumbed down RPG elements feel easy to use but a little empty. If you hated the monotony of upgrading too many small aspects and customizing every weapon for proper ammo and best fit then maybe you'll like it. But, I couldn't help but feel that it was a little bit too easy and boring compared to the first game

2) You'll have to do a long mission to gain the loyalty of every one of your 10 squad members; it's kind of cool at first, but it gets a little old. Really? I have to complete a mission to get Garus on my side? Pretty sure I proved my loyalty fighting the Geth and Saren already

3) The new planet scanning system is cool and I'm glad to be rid of the vehicle, but it starts to get really old searching for minerals. After about 4 hours of it I got tired and decided I had enough uprades. Searched about 60 planets and found 6 side missions, so that feels like there's probably a lot out there. I didn't make it to level 30 so I must have missed a lot, but I just got so sick of scanning planets. Not a big complaint though; I don't know how they could have done it better so I was pleased.

OVERVIEW:

GRAPHICS: 10/10

DIALOGUE: 10/10

AUDIO: 10/10

COMBAT SYSTEM: 10/10

UPGRADES: 8/10

STORY: 10/10

INTEGRATION OF PREVIOUS GAME: 7/10

Whether you liked the first ME or you didn't, this game is a winner. I have my share of complaints, but the game is an amazing edition to the trilogy and you can just sense the effort Bioware put into this. Everyone will have complaints, but I've never seen a developer listen to the feedback and put forth this much effort.

Two days ago I would have told you ME1 was almost perfect, but this game has shown be the light and really set the bar.

Thanks Bioware

Best Deals for Mass Effect 2 Platinum Hits

To start off, I want to make one thing clear; this review is targeted towards true RPG fans and people who loved the previous Mass Effect. If you are more of an action or FPS fan who generally enjoys qualities games (even if they do step outside of your comfort zone), then it would behoove you to go grab and play this game right now. Compared to most of the mediocre games out there these days, this game is an absolute gem. With that said, I will now continue with the true review.

Very few sequels can be categorized as `true sequels' in the essence that you may be playing as a different character with a different story and in some cases, a completely different universe. That is not the case with Mass Effect 2, where you once again take the role of Commander Shepard (whether you choose to be male of female) in his pursuit of the Reapers and peace across the galaxy. As an uber fan of the previous entry, I was expecting a similarly immersive experience that improved on the follies of the first entry.

Well, I have good news; Bioware listened to the critic's complaints and reworked almost everything to some degree. The bad news is that a lot of the best elements that made the first Mass Effect great got axed. As a result, ME2 (Mass Effect 2) is everything ME1 (Mass Effect 1) wasn't; it's well polished, fast paced and flashy. Unfortunately, ME2 exchanged these qualities for the depth, immersion and charm that characterized the first game. True fans of RPGs recognize that this is not a fair exchange and as such seriously tarnished the experience.

In the rest of this review, I will juxtapose everything in this game in relation to ME1. This is because, as with any true sequel, the predecessor is the game that set the standard and is the game that the sequel must live up to. So in essence, this is a review of both games. With that said, enjoy.

*** A summation of this review is provided at the bottom of the page. ***

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

"The little things make all the difference in the universe."

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

**Loading Screens**

ME1

Minimal and limited to when you selected a new planet or location and if I remember correctly it usually just showed you in the Citadel. Otherwise you simply walked from place to place or traveled via elevators or air lock (in and out of your ship). Transitions were seamless and provided entertaining conversations between team members and a high sense of realism.

ME2

The loading screens usually showed a flashy schematic of the ship or you presumably landing somewhere. They were aesthetic, but even that novelty wore off after seeing them a few times.

ADVANTAGE Mass Effect 1; seamless transitions provide a greater level of immersion than loading screens. That was an innovation that should have been kept and expanded upon, not axed.

**Space Exploration**

ME1

You just used your galaxy map to click where you wanted to go.

ME2

Using an over the top view, you actually navigated your ship from galaxy to galaxy and from planet to planet. You needed fuel to bridge the gap to some outer galaxies and probes to explore planets.

ADVANTAGE Mass Effect 2; This was one area where immersion and depth was actually improved, bravo.

**Outer Planet Exploration**

ME1

You used an all terrain vehicle called the Mako to explore the planets for cities, enemy bases and minerals. This process was tedious and combat in the Mako was flawed at best. It was a very `cool' concept executed very poorly.

ME2

On story planets you just warp straight into the city via loading screen. On foreign planets you `scan' the planet from the ship using a giant reticule and send out probes to find minerals and sometimes mission locations. An early upgrade allows you to speed up process, which effectively makes it a bit less tedious and soul sucking.

DRAW Both of these exploration methods were flawed. Personally, I'd welcome a combination of the two in the third entry. An improved version of the Mako would be welcomed to enter bases on the story planets and provides a good change of pace. However for foreign planets I think being able to scan the entire planet with one probe would speed things up considerably.

**Inner Planet Exploration**

ADVANTAGE Mass Effect 1; ME1's planets seemed much livelier and grandiose. Meaning, there were more NPCs walking around and everything was set up as an actual functioning city and ecosystem on a larger scale. In the second game, cities were much more abbreviated and robotic. There purpose for this seemed to be shortening the downtime between the fast paced story missions. They succeeded to that end, but the sacrifice in doing so was overall quality.

**Mini Games**

ME1

There was basically one quick time reaction mini game used for all hacking sections.

ME2

There a few different mini games that would show up when required to hack something. They were engaging, intelligent and actually fun...which is saying something as most the time I just find this sort of crap to just be in the way.

ADVANTAGE Mass Effect 2; Big improvement here, nothing much else to say.

**Bugs and Glitches**

ME1

Almost every time you entered a new area in ME1 you could see the layers and textures dropping onto your characters and environment piece by piece. There was also numerous other random bug's and glitches and the occasional slow down in combat.

ME2

The game runs incredibly smoothly from beginning to end with few to no glitches at all. This might be a first for Bioware.

ADVANTAGE Mass Effect 2; Well done Bioware, it would be nice to see this trend continue in all future games.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

"It is not the destination, but the journey that makes an experience worthwhile."

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

**Story**

ADVANTAGE Mass Effect 1; To be far, it is unrealistic to ever expect a sequel to contain a better story than the first entry in a trilogy; which is expected (and did so very well) to set the stage for events to come. With that said, I felt ME1's story was WAY better. Sarin was a worthy antagonist and the story contained revelation after revelation. You had to make many pivotal decisions affecting the good of the entire galaxy and, more importantly, future entries to the series. ME2 focused much more on the cast (which we'll get to in a second), it did not have an antagonist that I cared about and contained much fewer relevant story arcs.

**Characters**

ADVANTAGE Mass Effect 2; While I loved the cast of the first game, this was what the second game concentrated on and they did a fabulous job in doing so. Your primary goal was to gather an elite squad with which to track down the reapers. All of the new characters are very unique, powerful and relevant. And a couple of my favorites from the first game made a triumphant return to your main party. Each character has a primary side quest associated with them, which helps flesh their back story out a bit and adds a ton of value to the game. Even the final events leading up to the games conclusion focus on its wonderful cast.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

"When all else fails, you can always start blowing stuff up!"

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

**Battle System**

ME1

While ME1 did a great job integrating TPS action and RPG elements into a cohesive blend, the combat remained more focused on the RPG elements. You had a ton of skills and your success in battle was mostly based upon your manipulation and strategy of their execution. You could use all your skills independently and they recharged independently. There was no ammo, you simply had to make sure to not to overload your weapon by firing it too much or too fast. You are encouraged to focus your concentration on a single weapon as you have to flow experience into them to increase their accuracy, effectiveness and power up their weapon unique skills.

ME2

While still blending TPS and RPG elements, ME2 began to tip way more on the TPS end of the spectrum. Your characters have fewer skills and when you use one it forces all of your skills to recharge prior to using another. You now have ammo and no longer have to upgrade your weapons, which encourages you to use different weapons depending on the situation.

ADVANTAGE Mass Effect 1; Many of the assessments I've made so far are hard to argue with, which is not the case here. Battles in ME2 are much faster paced and being encouraged to constantly switch weapons (which I did think was an improvement) provides battles with a heightened sense of intensity. I personally preferred the methodical and strategic combat of the first game though. It really irked me that you could only use one skill at a time in ME2 per character. I usually had a skill I preferred over another which meant that was the one I always used. Had I been allowed to use more than one at a time like you were able to in the first game, the battle system would have been much more satisfying.

**Customization**

ME1

There was a complex inventory system and you could customize each weapon and armor with several of its own upgrades. There were a ton of skills to upgrade which affected your battle prowess, infiltration and mediation skills. Later in the game you were able to choose a secondary specialization.

ME2

Inventory was axed, at your ship you can customize you armor with different helmets, chest plates, etcetera and even customize color and appearance. You could upgrade weapons or armor as a class amongst other things at an upgrade station. There were far less skills (4 for the main character and 3 for the secondary party members plus a skill that upgrades their stats) and there were no skills affecting outside of battle prowess. Later in the game you could choose to inherent one specialty skill from a team member.

ADVANTAGE Mass Effect 1; This was a joke in my opinion. Yes, axing inventory made it easier to get back to the ever important slaughtering of enemies, but it greatly watered down a great product. And less skills means less thought, which once again waters down a great product. On a positive note, they did add a unique specific skill to each class in ME2, and for a couple of these classes, these are uber cool.

**Weapons**

ADVANTAGE Mass Effect 2; I had to specify a section for this because this was a huge strength of the ME2 battle system. In the previous ME, certain weapons, such as the shotgun and sniper rifle weren't very useful because, respectively, you had to either get to close to your enemies or it was too tough to aim prior to pumping a ton of experience into the skill. Now there are powers directly associated with closing the gap between you and enemies fast and there is a much improved cover mechanic. Also, they've added power weapons and though you can only equip one at a time, the addition of rocket launchers and other powerful cool alien weapons is certainly a welcome addition.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

"In the end all that matters is value, the bang for your buck."

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

**Relevant Content**

ME1

A run through of the first game could be done in about 10-15 hours if you just stuck to the main planets and played through what I like to call the `relevant content'. That being main quests and unique side quests along the main storyline. You could significantly increase your time spent if you explored a lot of planets in what is essentially pointless and fruitless filler.

ME2

If you do all the main quests and character specific side quests you could probably spend about 30+ hours finishing this game.

ADVANTAGE Mass Effect 2; This isn't even close, ME2 has about 2X as much relevant content as its predecessor. This is a very significant upgrade and gives ME2 a huge boost in core value over its ME1.

**Replay Value**

DRAW There was more depth and significant decisions in the first game and though significantly shorter in duration, the quality of the time spent was much higher. I played through ME1 three times trying to perfect my Shepard and relished every play through. I couldn't even get myself to complete my renegade (evil) play through of ME2, once was enough. With that said, ME2 contains a new game+ feature, which is very cool because you can start the game with all your best skills. And class specific skills could give you added motivation to give the game a second play through. My bias shifts me in the direction of ME1, but ME2 does have some nice incentives to play again.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

"Now for a shout out to all those other elements not worth talking to death..."

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

THE DRAWS

With regard to graphics, music, voice acting, conversations and anything else I didn't mention both games executed tremendously well and deserve a high grade draw. That's it, that's all I have to say on that topic ;).

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

"All things must come to an end, even this review"

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The best way I can describe this game, as a true fan of RPGs, is by saying it took one step forward and two steps backward. Before I elaborate further on that, here is a list of what was improved and what was made worse.

Juxtaposed to Mass Effect 1, Mass Effect 2 had...

+a better space exploration system

+better hacking mini games

+far smoother performance (flawless really)

+a deeper and more fleshed out character cast

+much faster paced battles with a better array of useful weaponry and cover mechanic

+some cool new character and class specific powers

+a much longer main story with more relevant content

+a new game+ option absent from ME1

-a much choppier and less immersive experience due to the elimination of seamless transitions replaced by loading screens

-a method of foreign planet exploration (scanning) that was just as flawed as the Mako

-lifeless and robotic feeling planets

-a much less engaging story

-considerably much less depth in its battles and customization

The purpose of these changes was obvious in my eyes, to make this game more appealing to a larger group of gamers and to that end they succeeded mightily. Mass Effect 2 is fast paced and the downtime between battles is made short. It is smooth and has powerful, interesting and well fleshed out character cast to fight alongside you. I just wish Bioware could have made their improvement without sucking so much of the depth and charm out of the experience. I also found that the frenetic pace was a little too much for what is still an RPG. As a gamer that almost exclusively plays RPGs, I find this to still be the strongest available experience recently released. It is, however, a disconcerting step away from entertaining the true fans of the genre, the fans who they should remain faithful to beyond all else because we'll be the ones still there when everybody shuffles on to the next fad.

I can strongly recommend this game to anyone, but for the true RPG fan I would suggest waiting until the price of admission drops. It is not so special or pertinent as to warrant the extra $$$.

Honest reviews on Mass Effect 2 Platinum Hits

Playing Mass Effect 2 is like watch a good movie, a movie where you can interrupt the flow at certain points and take control of the characters and slightly change the plot. Mass Effect has always been about telling a grand story, and the middle part of the Mass Effect trilogy has made improvements over the first title, the story is deeper, and a bit more interesting and complex than ME1 (Mass Effect 1). Unfortunately with the improved story comes the removal of nearly every single traditional RPG element. Playing the game, I feel like I am being dragged through the story instead of being PART of the story like I did in ME1. Without the RPG elements to break up the story and to give something else to focus on, the game became a bit repetitious. Overall, amazing story, lacking gameplay, and cover based shooting made the game fun, but I wanted different things than what the developers of ME2 wanted.

Find helpful customer reviews and review ratings for Mass Effect 2 Platinum Hits

First off, I wanted to make it clear that this is an outstanding game, one of the best I've ever played. As proof of this I've played through the career three whole times, and plan to play it at least once more before the release of Mass Effect 3. Generally I don't replay games, and that is definitely the most I've ever played a game, except for maybe Rock Band. That being said Bioware dumbed this game down so far from the mastery of the original Mass Effect. This game is one of the most polished games I've ever played. However I feel like they accomplished this by completely eliminating any originality and progress in the gameplay. They stripped almost all of the RPG gameplay that I loved, leaving such a simplistic leveling system (with a really low level cap) and hardly any skills. Also, they got rid of all of the weapons and add-ons in favor of a series of upgrades. In my mind, while this made it easier for a young stupid player that's too impatient to enjoy RPG's, for me it was a useless system. I never felt more powerful after buying a new upgrade, it felt exactly the same, either because the upgrade didn't add enough or the enemies always got more powerful at exactly the same rate.

In all of the videos during the game, the characters have so much more power than the minuscule amount of abilities you have in gameplay. Essentially, ME2's gameplay is just a very basic cover based shooter with a few interesting powers. Especially at higher levels, you have to stay behind cover most of the game if you don't want to die every couple seconds. Also, I find it amazing that in the future we replace bullets with cool-down clips that work exactly the same way. In fact some of the guns have less ammo than the present. At the higher levels this becomes a big problem, as multiple times I ran out of ammo, especially with the guns I liked the most. The technology of the world does not match the gameplay, while it absolutely did in the first game. Still however, the gameplay is fun even at its most basic.

Now onto the story, while compared to everything else on the market it's amazing, but compared to the original Mass Effect the main story is pretty weak. Essentially there are only 4 missions in the main story, and there isn't really any main nemesis. There's just some goofy Collector that repeats annoying phrases and has no motivation for all the evil its doing. In the first game there was a guy we could chase after, feeling like we're always a step beyond, and then after that an even more massive evil with very interesting reasoning. Here we have one faceless enemy with no reasoning, there's never a twist or anything to compete against. Also, the act of killing Shepard at the very beginning of the story is such a goofy way to restart everything. However, the bulk of the game's missions involving recruiting and gaining the loyalty of characters is really fun and original. I loved it, at times it almost felt like a sci-fi version of the game series Suikoden where you'd collect 108 characters/stars (most of them weren't actually playable). In fact I'd love to see more of that in the next game, it really involves you in the story to gather these people/aliens and than talk to them.

However, that brings me to another part of the game that I'd love to see adapted in ME3. It makes no sense to only take 2 other characters with you to fight hundreds and hundreds of enemies. I mean I understand the benefit of a small team, but you really never do any sneaking around. Also, it's implied that all of the characters are leaving on the mission even though you only have 3 total characters. From this, I'd love to see two additions, first it would be nice if each character had its own experience points so you'd be rewarded/punished by underusing or overusing the other characters. Secondly I'd love to see more characters on screen, even if they aren't playable. If it's too difficult for Bioware to achieve, they could just have more missions like the last mission on this game, where you have two separate teams.

Even after all of the above complains, I still think that this game is amazing, and my favorite game of 2010.

I personally think this is one of the worst games ever. The graphcis are good but the gameplay [is not good]. It takes too long to get a stunt started, landing after going off of big jumps is near impossible, and for some reason during the race, the computer racers are able to crash into you and then keep riding, where you fall and lose positions. Try the game though, see if you like it or not. Though most of my friends and I hate it.

When this game first came out I would rate it a solid 4 stars. But part of that is for the online multiplayer game, and since this game is several years old there is almost nobody online anymore. So you can pretty much forget about the online gaming aspect of it, every once in a blue moon there are enough people online to get a match going, but not like when it first came out. That leaves the single player, which by itself I rank 3.5 stars. To be honest it's not a very long game, but it is fun, and if you are a James Bond fan you will most likely enjoy it. I mainly wanted to comment on the Collector's edition, which some people are selling new for like $80, don't bother. There is really nothing special about the special edition except for that it comes in a cooler box. It does contain a DVD disc that has a couple of featurettes on the making of the game, but they aren't worth that markup and they are on YouTube anyway. You don't get any extra levels or weapons, or anything pertaining to the game in the special edition. You get a metal box and a DVD of behind the scenes stuff, which frankly isn't that interesting. So pay $8 for the regular edition instead of $80 for this, and I assure you that even if you aren't blown away by the game at least you won't be getting price gouged. If you pay $80 you will be very angry with yourself. I bought the collector's edition when the game first came out, and it was the same price as the regular game back then, that tells you how insignificant the difference is.

I've played Dynasty Warriors since 4 Hyper, so I haven't played them all, but I've played a lot. Recently more than average time on Dynasty Warriors online, which is a whole different ballgame than the console versions.

Now on with it...

Dynasty Warriors 7 has updated graphics and is beautiful. I can't take advantage of the 3D stereoscopic abilities but on my projector it looks really nice. The fluid cut scenes blend seamlessly with the action in story mode. The music is great and you can select which track will play (or random) in conquest mode.

Story Mode: Select your favorite faction and proceed through Wei, Wu, Shu, or Jin. Each stage is different and generally has a clear purpose. You cannot select your character, it depends on the level you are playing. Personally I like this, you get experience with various move sets and weapons. Talk to various people in cities and build/modify weapons, etc.

Cons: One player only

Chronicle Mode: Unlock various stages which form a grid of the map of China. Completing one stage unlocks adjacent stages. Stages have various purposes; unlock a character, get a special weapon, unlock a city, normal battle, etc. Stop in to cities and upgrade/forge weapons (add seals), pay allies to aid you/get animals, answer questions at the scholar for special items/achievements, etc. Tons of stages! You can switch to an unlocked character using the X button at the battle select screen. Unlimited saves mid-battle (Though you cannot restart in the middle of a battle if you fail).

Cons: Load screens take time

Cannot lock onto a general and sometimes they move out of view. An orange arrow shows what direction they are in.

I found myself wishing the enemy generals had a musou bar indicator. The real damage you take from them is from their musou, and if you're just starting your combo when they start their musou, you WILL be hit.

-XP is in the form of skill points and allows you to add skills to your player. This must be done individually for each player, not combined. Done by killing generals and collecting items from KO'd generals (Attack+, Defense+, etc)

-Seals can be unlocked for weapons and added to them. This is the weapon upgrade system and seals unlocked apply to all weapons.

-Find/purchase higher level weapons. Use the Blacksmith to forge them and unlock seals. Takes time but can unlock multiple seals at once using numerous slots at the blacksmith.

-One player can use ANY 2 weapons. Their main weapon has a special EX attack. This can be viewed in the start menu by clicking on "moveset". Upgrade skills to obtain more combo attacks and increase to 2 musou bars! Also can unlock an aerial musou through gaining skills.

-User can carry 2 weapons at once and switching executes a special attack dependent on the weapon type you are switching from.

-Expertise stars determine your ability to use an item. Can gain stars but some cannot be used well no matter what.

-Gain allies by talking to them and they will join you in battle if you select so. Takes time to build the bond and allow this, but not too long. Can hire some for 1000 gold and they join for one battle.

-Animals include Horse, Panda, Elephant, Wolf, Hawk, tiger. Some are ride-able and some fight for you.

-36 different movesets.

-Ability to change outfits as you unlock them.

Online play

-To play online (only conquest mode) press the start button and select "online play". If you want to play with a friend you know form a party first. Then click on the battle you want to fight and select to recruit an ally from a party. You can also recruit from anybody by leaving it open for anyone to join. You can also join a random battle.

-You can see others on the map in the form of golden swords over a hex. They are recruiting and you can join in.

-Only 2 players :(

-2 player split screen for local play. Second player hits the start button to join at the battle select screen.

-NO PVP mode. Only coop.

-When a power-up is dropped, both players can get it, though the power-up may not be the same for both, it does not disappear for the other player if you grab it.

*At the time of this review there is some lag in the form that the other player may see you doing something which you've already completed. Sometimes enemies killed remain on the screen for the other player, or you will appear to walk through a wall. This may be repaired in a future patch. I noticed no frame rate drops, still very smooth gameplay.

This game, IMHO requires more skill than DW Strikeforce and all previous actually with the exception of Dynasty Warriors Online (if you want to master combos, EX attacks, weapon switching, and musou all in sequence). DWO is PVP oriented so it is unrivaled in the required skill to play as you are fighting other people. That being said, you can always set it to easy mode and PWN everybody if you so desire, though the rewards will be reduced. There are 5 difficulty settings from very easy up to chaos. Chaos mode is suicide unless you have a maxed out player, even then it is difficult.

That's all I will say for now, any more would spoil the game for you. It's well worth the money and a very long game. Hope this helps you get started :)

Everyone "enjoys" and "dislikes" certain genres. If we want to be honest all games are repetitive. Usually our end verdict is based on what sort of "repetition" we enjoy the most. So with Dynasty Warriors 7 you maybe asking yourself "Is it worth it?" Did Koei/Tecmo and Omega Force actually bring the franchise into the present? Being a retro old school fool whom often revisits my ps2 I can easily recognize when one of my favorite games series goes through significant "polish". If a port from a last gen console is "rehashed" and chucked onto my 360 I'm going to be able to smell it like an ever vigilante German Shepherd. Luckily, Dynasty Warriors 7 deserves to be called a modern day marvel! Er,that is assuming if you like your somewhat tactical hack n slash game play!

So what is Dynasty Warriors? For those not in the know it takes place in Feudal China when three kingdoms vied for control of the land. Much akin to George R R Martin's A Song Of Ice And Fire, the story is ripe with forbidden romances, betrayals, tyrants, and fragile alliances. However, because the people at Koei/Tecmo want DW to be accessible to a larger audience there's a distinct lack of blood and swearing. "Sex" is implied but not thrown into your face as some sort of "Tussle with the concubine under the sheets until the vase falls" mini game.

Dynasty Warriors 7 has a distinctive core of game design which carried over from the gnarled roots of its` forebears. You choose to play as pivotal protagonists and antagonists from the Romance Of The Three Kingdoms era then you sally forth to slay thousands of wizards, archers, and tough guys. Sound daunting? Fret not! Unless you jack up the difficulty to "Chaos" or "Hard" your adversaries are suitably dim witted. Some review sites may rag the game for this but it truth it's a blessing in disguise. If opposing clusters of troops carried out orders with well organized precision they would kill a lone warrior in a matter of seconds. Dynasty Warriors is not about total realism. It's supposed to make you feel empowered. When you slay a general of equal skill or send hundreds of peons flying with one swing of your weapon your inner child should squeal with glee! If you feel your pulse slow down from boredom instead, this type of franchise probably isn't for you.

Luckily for fans and newcomers alike, Dynasty Warriors 7 mixed in much needed spice to the formula. Of all the iterations over the years this one likely has the most potential to draw in new gamers who previously sat upon the fence of uncertainty. Shall we go over what has changed?

"Animal husbandry"

Previous dynasty warriors games had horseback riding. It was a good way to break up the monotony of slaying whole armies on foot. Assuming you had to be somewhere fast, a slick stallion could mean the difference between victory and total annihilation.

Horseback riding has returned in DW 7 and it's vastly improved! Now your four legged friend can jump, swim, do a rush attack, and be called to your side at any time with a shrill whistle command. This is much more convenient than running around the map wasting precious minutes to "jack someone's ride".

Additionally in "conquest mode" you can tame tigers, hawks, bears, elephants, pandas, and wolves to either ride or fight alongside you!

"Art of war"

As you play out the sagas of each kingdom every chapter has set objectives. In story mode you can even use siege equipment such as ballista and catapults to mow down opponents or break down fortress walls. Missions such as freeing tigers to cause mass panic, submerging a castle in water by opening a flood gate, and escorting an important person to safety are much more fun to do. Honestly in Dynasty Warriors 5 a lot of the quests unfolded in a dry and uninspired manner. Not so here!

"Traversing the terrain"

Dynasty warriors 7 is a tad guilty of setting you along a preordained trail. You can sometimes look upon places which seem as if you can go there but in reality an invisible wall impedes your progress. However, you can now swim, slide down more cliff faces, and climb ladders. While your destinations are the same how you get there is up to you. Being DW was never set up like an expansive open world rpg, this never got under my skin. The added plat forming and exploration elements are likewise appreciated!

"With knowledge comes power young warrior!"

DW 7 goes back to the charge system and forsakes the renbu system. Being I didn't play DW 6 I do not know exactly "what" came before hand. However, it's safe to say I like the present combat a lot!

Each character has a "skill tree" to boost damage you do to enemies when on horseback, add to your musou gauge, increase your speed on foot, and generally turn you into a more proficient killing machine.

Your basic attack, defense, and vitality ratings are all improved by collecting shield, food, and sword icons from fallen foes.

"Instruments of pain"

The weapon variety in Dynasty Warriors 7 is very impressive. "Arm cannons" "battle harps" and "bladed yo yos" are stranger additions and while the outlandish array of battle implements are not historically accurate they are fun to use.

Each warrior can switch between two weapons in the heat of combat. Everyone can be equipped with anything before skirmishes begin but you should keep an eye on the star ratings. If say Sima Yi has a "1 star" next to the drilling lance chances are he's not going to be all that great at using it.

Seals put into weapon slots can improve range, attack power, speed, mystic properties, and combos.

"Musou attacks" flash, crackle, burn, smash, and freeze with renewed intensity and visual gusto! Assuming you found DW 5's "super moves" to be lacking this issue has been completely rectified.

"Do you see what I see?"

Koei and Omega force are a tad guilty about recycling graphics. If you asked me the difference between DW 3 and DW 5 it would be hard for me to list key examples. Warriors of Orochi 2 was probably the best looking outing on the PS2 and though it brought in better level design and more varied playable characters it was still using an outdated engine.

Dynasty Warriors 7 by comparison looks utterly beautiful! A lot of love and thought went into the character models and the environments are not quite so drab, jagged, and flat. Many more combatants can be on screen at once and they all carry a larger plethora of unique weapon types. Granted this was achieved via deliberate frame skipping but everything flows so silky smooth only the most abrasive of snobs are going to notice.

You can also rotate the camera with the left analog stick. I use this for dubious ends (pantie and thong watching) but I imagine it can be helpful during tense fights as well.

If someone tells you DW 7 is "ugly" or looks outdated they're clinically blind or bias beyond rationality.

"Justin Bieber tried to defile the Metal...But the Metal struck him down!"

Frankly the music in DW 5 sounded uninspired to me. Sure, there was plenty of electric guitar solos but they were soulless to my ears. I kept going back to Warriors Of Orochi 2 and its' more inspired soundtracks to feel "pumped" while cutting my way towards glory.

I'm happy to report the band also brought back the "awesome" in Dynasty warriors 7! Every track amplifies the atmosphere and emotional investment of each situation. Most are standard Rock N Roll Heavy Metal fare but a select few compositions add in some Arabic or oriental under tones. This is something I for one appreciated. To all you composers out there who were involved in DW 7's development let me offer my sincerest gratitude!

"I shall shine brightly...yes, even more so than now!"

Personally I was really fond of the voice acting in Dynasty Warriors 7. It was on a whole new level. However, when there are over 60+ defenders of the realms with unique personalities, different beliefs, conflicting ideals, and even varied sexual preferences your bound to come across at least one performance that rubs you the wrong way. This did happen to me with Zhang He at first but as I got to know him better it was easy to let it slide. Call him "fruity" if you will, but he tares it up on the battle field! Besides, the world is diverse. We cannot expect everyone to conform to our bias standards of coolness. I commend game developers whom create "super heroes" or "super heroines" even minorities can relate to. Given Zhang He's characteristics his voice actor did a wonderful job! (The same goes for the rest of the cast as well.)

"Sit down around the fire lads and lasses! Let me tell you a story of lords, knights, princesses, love, betrayal, and fallen kingdoms eternally retold..."

Story mode is more immersible than it has ever been for the series. Cut scenes transition flawlessly into the battles themselves. Before you enter the fray you can talk to other soldiers around the base or even chat it up with your dearest companions. Weapons can be bought and forged on the spot.

Instead of letting you play as one officer through an entire chronicle Story Mode shuffles you around and plants you in the shoes of alternating characters whom were the most pivotal during certain events. Like a good book you may go from Cao Cao's suspenseful escape to Dan wei's noble sacrifice. Events such as Sun Shang Xiang's tragic love affair with Liu Bei are delivered with much more feeling.

The biggest con of "story mode" is the lack of co-op. Aka you feel totally on the edge of your seat at all moments which is a great accomplishment. Yet admittedly sharing it all with a friend would have been that much sweeter.

However, from that "sacrifice" we get the best recounting of the 3 kingdoms era to date!

"War lords just wanna have fun....smash, hack, and talk smack.....Oh yeah!"

Local and online co-op can be found in Conquest mode. After a dose of melancholy historical tragedy it's nice to go into something that is more of a "fantasy what if..." approach to ancient China! As you conquer multiple hexagons on a grid map via the tried and true feudal negotiation approach (kill, kill, kill, and save villagers) you can ally yourself with anyone, build up friendly or romantic relationships with fellow officers, take your animal familiars into battle with you, shoot the spit with towns folk, answer trivia questions, and unite the lands minus the unnecessary jerk baggery. In conquest it's possible for Cao Pi and Sun Ce to be best pals or for Liu Bei to flirt it up with Zhen Ji. Characters neglected in "story mode" get their own "legendary battles" in conquest mode to boot. After you play through their segments you unlock them.

I'm unsure how fans will feel about Conquest mode but personally I was glad to partake in missions which were mostly different from those found in free mode (which is basically replaying the exact same scenarios in story mode with different characters)

In the future I hope DW keeps conquest mode even if "free mode" marks its' return after a brief hiatus.

"Omitted features"

1. There's no create a character mode. For me this is fine because my custom avatar wouldn't seem nearly as important when standing next to the "true greats' anyway.

2. Animal guardians and sworn allies in Conquest mode replace body guards.

3. Again there's no "free mode".

"Biggest gripe"

Load times.....ugh!

"Nicest feature"

In Conquest mode you can choose any musical score you want for the upcoming conflict. My favorite listening pleasure so far is "Crisis".

Overall

I cannot recommend Dynasty Warriors 7 high enough. Even if you're not a huge fan of hack n slashes I would suggest a rental at the very least. With Jin becoming a new playable fraction and everything else having been "improved" by leaps and bounds this is the best DW game to jump into to get your feet wet.

Being this is the very finest of its' genre it's safe to say if you don't enjoy DW 7 nothing else of a similar vein will persuade you to change your mind.

Regardless, Koei/Tecmo and Omega Force put in 110% percent and should receive recognition for doing so!

My Review. When i first heard of the new Dynasty warriors 7 back in september i had my doubts....The past bunch of dynasty warriors titles have been downgraded and for the most part a large waste of time and cash....But i decided to give this one a chance since koei had promised an improvement....and let me say it is a HUGE improvement and a GIANT step in the right dircetion for koei!!!!! It actually feels like a REAL game with a complete storyline that, a.) makes sense b.) Is histroically accurate and c.) is innovating and exciting!. The story mode actually feels like a story rather than bits and pieces of a puzzle that are hard to understand or put together. In past titles i barely paid attention to the story since for the most part really had no flow, or reason, and didn't really make ANY sense. The storyline in 7 is kingdom based and really takes you into ancient china. The new seemless play offers a much needed and awesome transitioning effect, while the town and cities offer a large variety of new things to do, from training to shopping, to talking. The warm town enviornment gives you a much needed break from chaotic battles and hardcore music.

Another change to the series is the Dual weapon system which has its positives and negatives. On the positive side there are many weapons to choose from and 2 weapons at once provide for thrilling new levels of combat. On the negative side many of the movesets are cloned, with the exeption of each characters unique musou and Ex attack, so you might get tired of using the same sword over and over and over again for each character who uses a sword as their EX weapon. Other than that the dual weapon system is a great new addition to the dynasty warriors series.

Another new addition to the series is conquest mode which delivers a whole new experiance as you free roam china and conquer it. You play as any one of the dynasty warriors characters and begin a series of battles while visiting and exploring towns. Each battle is replayable and some battles called "Legendary Battles" are unique to a specific character. This is a really cool feature that provides tons more of gameplay. In town you will be able to talk and interact with other characters as well as explore the many different shops, and venders. Now, Conquest mode is just like a free mode, you can play with your friends either splitscreen or online. this provides even more fun to players.

All in all dynasty warriors 7 is true to its fans and delivers a great hack n slash title that all fans of the series will enjoy. With its much needed added content, improved graphics, largley expanded roster, and new modes this is a dynasty warriors title that is actually worth the money. Yes there are slight negative components but the major improvements make up for koei's slack.......8.9/10

Honest reviews on Dynasty Warriors 7 - Xbox 360

Being a significant fan of the Dynasty Warriors series since DW2 I eagerly waited for this game to come out. I had gotten DW6, but was so unsatisfied with it that I traded it in, and have subsequently been without my DW fix for over a year.

For those of you new to the series, Dynasty Warriors IS a repetitive game. To most of us, it is a guilty pleasure. There is something very satisfying to mowing down 1000s of enemies on the field of battle, even if you find yourself repeating the same 3 or 4 combos over and over again. If you like the idea of fighting in a fullfledged battle, hacking through your enemies ranks and bringing down lieutenant after lieutenant, then this is the game for you. It's repetitive, but in a way that is fun and satisfying for many people. It seems like it is either a hit or miss for people, so someone unfamiliar to the idea may want to rent a copy first.

That being said, I felt this game was a worthy addition to the series. Although upon getting it, I wanted to believe it was the best to come out to date, I feel it felt short on what it could accomplish. Since it actually only offers two modes of play, I will break down each of those.

Story Mode: The main mode allows you to select one of the families and follow their story to completion. You do not get a choice of character as you would in previous games, and are instead given whatever character is most relevant to that battle from that families point of view. The story mode is far more impressive than it has been in the past, and actually feels like you are watching a story unfold, verses many of the previous games where the story was merely a filler between each battle. The story is the same as it always has been, but I think this game unfolds it the best of any of them. You are denied access to 2 player for story mode, so that is unfortunate. Also, you can't choose and level a character, since the character of choice is constantly being chosen for you. You can't even select other characters that were historically in the battle of choice. The story mode specifically decides who you will be. However, the story mode is very impressive. The story really helps show you each characters place in the events that unfold and the relationships between them. It is very impressively done.

Conquest: The Conquest mode borrows heavily from the Empires sub games, and gives you the ability to conquer all of China province by province. These allow 2 p, but the battles are NOT fullfledged battles. Almost all of them are "missions". Kill this guy before he escapes, defend this base, ex.... So unfortunately, if you have a second player, he won't be able to get into any real full battles by your side, as those are all in the story mode, which doesn't offer 2p. Even in conquest mode, you will face many character levels that force you to be another character other than the one you desire to be. Other than that, the mode offers you the ability to buy weapons, mounts, animal body guards, increase how much other generals "like" you. You can take quizzes and test your knowledge for gold rewards.

Leveling: A big part of DW7 is being able to level your characters. As I mentioned before, the game often forces you to play as other characters, making it quite difficult to level your character of choice. Like the previous games, killing a lieutenant gets you access to bonus life/defense/attack or items, which take the form of weapons now. You can equip any weapon you find, however, certain weapon's are more powerful than others, offer unique special traits, and characters have more or less skill depending on which weapon they use. So one character may be great at using a sword but is penalized for trying to use an axe.

Each lieutenant you kill also earns you skill points, which you spend in a rather small skill tree unique to each character. The tree mostly amounts to adding each attack combo (strong and weak attacks have to be added separately), increases your musou guage and distance your weapon reaches. The tree is quite small, so don't think you will be able to run 3 or 4 musous if you get enough skill points. As far as I can tell, Musous cannot be extended either like in previous games so that it lasts longer. However, you can unlock a second musou attack and be able to use one or the other.

Items also have been replaced by seals. Very similar to Lost Odyssey, each item has a seal attached to it. When you either leave the item with a blacksmith or use the item long enough, you obtain the seal. Each item can have 2-3 seals attached to it, which doesn't have to be the seal it can create. Once you obtain a seal, you can attach it to any weapon you want and as many weapons as you want. The seals are the equivalent of items, and I would personally have just preferred to get items. It just adds one more worthless step.

Overall: To avoid being too much longer, I will just sum it up. The game has nothing else to it. No freestyle mode, no arrows, and no character creation. The game is nice, but it seems like DW creators can't help but cut stuff out as they add new stuff. This game really does suffer in my mind for it's lack of freestyle. You should be able to pick a level, a side, a character, and a difficulty whenever you feel like it. This game loses 2 stars because of the lack of a freestyle mode and for the other issues I mentioned. I really do like this game, but if DW8 brings back freestyle I will be dropping this one for that in a heartbeat. It really is a shame too cause they really did do the story perfectly and conquest mode isn't bad either. This game could have been close to perfect (as perfect as DW series can get) if they didn't cut out that vital mode.

DW 7 is a far cry above the previous installments are the series. Gone are the clunky renbu fight mechanics, the copy paste move sets for the majority of the cast, and only making a musou mode for less then 10% of the roster. The musou mode has been overhauled, making it closer to historically accurate and brand new. The weapon switch system offers variety, even mid battle. And the combat is INFINITELY more streamlined then in the DW6 games, harkening back to the days if DW4/5. However conquest mode doesn't quite make up for the lack of a free mode, and the lack of a CAW feature is saddening, even if it is nice to see the return of some characters that had been left out of the previous games. No doubt those features will be in the expansion when it comes out though.
