This game that has something for everyone. On the fun side, it has plenty of extreme moves run-of-the-mill baseball games lack, like larger than life catches, baserunning, and pitching. But, you can also play in realistic mode, where it plays more like a usual baseball game, but it has an extensive baseball simulation that tops even the straight sim type baseball games, with things like, ticker scores scrolling onscreenn while you are online of the current mlb games going on and the full range of team managing including minor league signs, team stealing percentages, etc. finally you dont have to buy 2 baseball games anymore, slugfest has the best fun baseball game as well as the best realistic one out this year, all in one game.

This game was terrible. The gameplay was aweful and not engaging at all. The kinect, which is awesome in some aplications, does NOT work well in this game. The characters in the game are, oddly enough, distinctly feminine and look like what I would guess to be the programmer's idealized and projected self image. The dialog is a string of terrible one liners.

I literally got it, played it for 10 minutes, then walked away for a bit thinking "am I missing something or is this game this terrible?" I then went back to it, played it for a couple minutes, and decided I wasted enough time. While the seller was good with fast deliver, the game itself was a castrated version of call of duty.

The company who created this should be ashamed of themselves. This is the first review I think I've made on amazon, but it found that it was worth taking the time out of my busy schedule to make this public announcement.

HORRIBLE.

I picked this game up for $8, and for that I'd say it was WELL WORTH IT...

First off, this IS the future. The game is amazing in how it handles cover. I actually find myself using training techiques like "slicing a room".

The tactics are very cool, having to duck behind or below cover. The downside of the game is the aiming with hand is a little imperfect. It is a RAILS game and not a free flow game, but that's okay.

What this game REALLY needs is light gun compatibility. If I could aim to shoot this game would so rock.

Best Deals for Blackwater - Xbox 360

It's an OK shooter. I got it for the interaction with the kinect. Moving around and being a bit more active than just sitting there playing the regular shooter games.

Honest reviews on Blackwater - Xbox 360

I'm going to ignore who Blackwater is to avoid all political talk other then to say, I purposely bought this used at Gamesto, though I still brought it back.

This is a very budget title. Horrible graphics, writing/plot, acting, repetitive shooting on rails gameplay. This is the usual shovelware that brings down a peripheral or console & insulting its' customers. I'm not expecting Halo or Gears of War, but better then good Wii graphics would be great.

Menu:

You can calibrate your reticule, but I found leaving as is worked for me best. The menu gives little options, you have many useless "checkpoints", but the game is only broken down about three points that any death won't send you all the way back to the beginning. There are three difficulty choices. You can calibrate reticule, a/v settings.

Gameplay:

It's the usual on rails shooter. There are ammo, grenades, path choices, wall & statue collectables, etc. to shoot to pick up. You do pull back your whole body left/right/down to take cover as you can't be shot much before you die & AI do shoot at you decently, that you do have to take cover. Hiding behind cover to not get shot will bring your health back, but it can be hard to find the right angle to take cover w/o getting shot. Having to move your body is a great addition that no shooter game had before which adds more real-life difficulty b/c you hand will always move away from targets like real life. The AI for the enemies, etc. are not smart at all, many bugs, disappearing items, etc.

They change the gameplay a bit w/the path choices, riding in a truck & changing characters you play as you go by gun choice: sniper, machine gun & shotgun.

Controls:

You point with one arm & it automatically shoots when the reticule is on person. This is a bad choice as shooting could be handled by the other hand like Cabela's Adventure Camp shooting mini games that have you bring the other hand from your chest down to shoot. You reload by slapping your elbow which works well & you can throw grenades. When I first played, my reticule was wobbly & slid like it was ice. I read up on the 'net that when that happens, restart the xbox & the next time, it was almost as steady as any mouse. You also have quick time events of jumping from rooftop to rooftop & kicking down doors.

You can also use the regular xbox controller for all gameplay, but it takes getting used to using the right stick to take cover & in the beginning it's very easy, but as you get 1/2 through it, the controls seems a bit slow.

Multiplayer:

Up to 8 local taking turns on challenges, no online play.

Why did I bring it back? The company who this is based on, the poor graphics for an HD console, the auto shooting, bad programming & it just was not fun. This could have been so much better & more fun with the right company & good programming. I'd love to have Raving Rabbids shooting mini games use this with their plungers.

ASTRO Gaming A40 Audio System, Black - Xbox 360 Reviews

ASTRO Gaming A40 Audio System, Black - Xbox 360

I am very happy to say that my extremely stylish white Astro A40 2011 audio system arrived recently and after much time pouring over it, I can safely say that it was worth every penny I spent. I noticed no one has reviewed the white ones, which I will now remedy. My wife and I live in a smaller-medium sized house divided into three apartment sized living spaces. I'm surrounded by two sides by in-law relatives. It's not a very soundproof house, and I sometimes suffer from insomnia or just want to play a game really loud. Until now, I've always had to turn the sound way down and could hardly hear anything. I've also never lived somewhere, ever, with an up-to-date surround sound, high fidelity sound system. Well, I decided I was through with that and so my wife and I got this package. It may be my best entertainment-related choice all year (at least tied with the PS3 I bought in Spring).

Immediately grabbing is the presentation of the A40s, even starting as early as the very slick, stellar packaging that is very reminiscent of an apple product. It's an impressive, clean introduction to Astro as a company. The Mixamp itself really has a retro-futuristic vibe to it and is very enjoyable to look at. In fact, the Mixamp's gorgeously simple design is immediately striking, just sporting two knobs, one for volume and the other for chat control, and two buttons, one for power and the other to activate simulated 7.1 surround sound. The buttons light up red, and really accent the black & white sheen of the Mixamp. Keeping up with the quality aesthetic design are the headphones themselves. The white ones remind me very much of the black & white droids with the red LED face screens from Mass Effect 2 (I hope you know what I'm talking about). Again, a very cool retro science fiction look that reminds me of the aforementioned Mass Effect, Star Wars, and Star Trek series. It's very neat. The speaker tags also look very stylistic and the way they click into place is always satisfying.

The build quality of the headset, as well as the Mixamp, is very sturdy and well built. However, without batteries, the Mixamp is very, very light and can easily be jostled around if you're not careful. Keep that in mind. Each headphone can swivel to rest comfortably around your shoulders when you need to take a break. The quick disconnect cable included allows you to quickly and comfortably get up and walk around with the headset still resting on your shoulders, if you so desire. The headset itself feels heavy in your hand but feels extremely comfortable on your head. I have had long, long gaming sessions with these on and my ears stayed cool and dry, and it still felt great all-around. The package includes every wire you would ever want or need except the most important one for surround sound, an optical cable. Fortunately, there are very high quality ones dirt cheap here on Amazon, like this one, which I found to be particularly high quality. It's also worth noting that the new-and-improved 2011 edition microphone easily molds and stays in whatever shape you want relatively well. It can plug into whichever earphone you want, which is a very nice feature. There are also foam inserts included that you can put in each headphone, sandwiched between the magnetized speaker tags and the open-back headphone themselves. These will lower outside noise by 6 decibels, and really add to the privacy of your sound experience. It also greatly lowers the sound that escapes out when you're playing. This is good for those of you with sleeping wives or girlfriends next to you, or if you want to keep from disturbing anybody nearby. It's also important to note that, despite being a wired set-up, this system is very streamlined and doesn't clutter my house or get in the way at all. I haven't once been inconvenienced by it.

The overall audio sound of the headsets by themselves is excellent. The 2011 edition utilizes new foam in the headphones themselves that is supposed to bring out more bass (the biggest and pretty much only complaint of the prior A40 models were a distinctly poor amount and quality of bass). They do not disappoint in any way. I've sampled various headsets and audio systems in my life, and the overall mix and focus of these headsets are very, very balanced in comparison. Overall, the headphones have a very warm, embracing tone that really brings out the lows, the mids, and the highs in an excellent mix without any being overwrought and abrasive, but still remaining distinct and clear. It's very much like an old, aged acoustic guitar that has settled over the years into a distinctly warm, full-of-character charm, with a loving sound that embraces your ears. It's a little hard to describe, but this thick and creamy tone is great whether in stereo or in surround sound. One reason I really love the Astro A40's is the variety of uses you can have with it. It's not tethered to a base that transmits audio like wireless systems require you to. You can plug the headset itself into your iPod, your 3DS (or just plain DS), your PSP, your laptop, pretty much anything with a standard jack, and that was a major selling point for me. It's nice that I can go anywhere I want, plug my A40s into my iPod, and enjoy the music. The audio from any of these other sources sound amazing through these headphones.

The Mixamp takes what was an already amazing audiophile set of headphones that performed at $350+ quality and turns them into an overachieving, $1000+ quality surround sound theatre system. It is a remarkable little box. To test out the 7.1 surround sound function, I played some multiplayer in Halo Reach, and was promptly blown away. I could FEEL the rumble of an engine, the discharge of a plasma rifle, the power of a running stream and waterfall, and the impact of a grenade. The bass was punchy, the mids were tasty, and the highs were distinctive. It was quite the experience. I stopped to pan the camera around and marveled as the sounds traveled from ear to ear, front to back, side to side, with a realism that genuinely convinced me I was there myself. The newly improved microphone worked very well in multiplayer as well. Having this audio system engaged gave me a distinct edge in multiplayer, which is what I imagine most people will buy the headset for. The award winning Mixamp is critically acclaimed for a reason, it is incredible. For me personally, I didn't buy this audio system for multiplayer efficiency though. Rather, I bought it for the surround sound immersion factor, with more focus on grand single-player experiences, which is what I tested next.

I went through some other games from a broad spectrum of genres and focus from my collection to test the audio quality and the 7.1 function of the Mixamp with the headset. I tried Okami, whose artistic, zenlike focus in the music and sound was made even more spectacular by this audio system. Halo 3: ODST became even more immersive, running around the lonely streets of New Mombasa in isolation and anticipation, newspapers blowing in the wind and rain drops were distinct. The charming ambient noises of Albion and lovely music in Fable 2 and Fable 3 were a delight. So many of my favorite games have so much detail now, I can't help but wonder if I was deaf before. It's a miracle, Astro healed my ears! Dramatic joking aside though, I cannot wait to play Mass Effect and Mass Effect 2 again. This audio system makes me want to go back and play my favorite games again, just to hear all of the details I never had a clue about. One of the biggest factors for me in my favorite games is the immersion, taking me to another place and time to marvel at and enjoy. This audio system made even the most immersive games with the greatest atmosphere so much better to enjoy, and that's what's most important.

Well, are you still here? I know this review is really long, but I gotta tell you, when I was trying to figure out whether I wanted TB X41s, DPX21, PX5s, XP500s, Astro A30s, A40s Wireless, or the wired Astro A40 audio system, the long reviews that went into extreme detail that covered every topic the reviewer could think of are the ones that helped me the most. I hope that's what this review was like. My recommendation: buy this audio system if you can afford it. Astro is a great company to do business with, very personal, very much focused on your satisfaction. I can personally attest to that fact. The only downside that I can think of for most people is the price of the Audio System, but I can tell you that in my experience, the splurging was well-worth it. These headphones, combined with the mixamp, take a $250 price and stretch it out to being the equivalent to a very expensive, high-fidelity surround sound theater system. As a matter of fact, Astro purposefully chose to be their own seller because if they sold their products through a third-party retailer, the price tag would be 400$ OR HIGHER! Yes, $250 is a steal, and you'll get every bang for your buck in the best sound for anywhere near this price range. It's excellent. Buy it, immerse yourself (or "pwn n00bz" online) with it, LOVE IT!

*Below is supplementary information in addition to the main review, which I finished above. I figured I would include some information about this system and my own personal preference to try and give you as much helpful information as I can. The following really didn't fit anywhere in the review, so I put it here, enjoy:

After hours and hours of research into the different high quality headsets out there, I really settled on either Turtle Beach's PX5 or the Astro A40 wireless system, or this one. The PX5's are wireless and boast a ridiculous amount of features and customization. The A40's boast simplicity and ease of use, variety of use, and being of the highest quality. I just didn't feel I needed all of the things Turtle Beach claimed the PX5s could do for me. I'd prefer to avoid wireless, I don't care about bluetooth, I don't care about customized presets, I don't want my headset to be anchored to one base source, etc. I'm really glad I got the A40s.

In the end I went with this wired version, and I want to let you know why exactly I chose the wired Mixamp system over the new wireless Mixamp 5.8. Some may think this is a weird choice, because the 5.8 Mixamp supposedly has every good feature of the wired one, plus some new, exclusive features like a bass boost function that the wired Mixamp does not have, as well as the obvious perk of the convenience a wireless system inherently has. Despite these facts, I deliberately chose to get wired for two main reasons:

1.) Call me a hippy alarmist if you want, blame it on the fact that I live in Portland, OR, the emerald city of weirdness and ecoloving-naturalist-hipsters, blame it on my natural-health focused wife rubbing off on me, but I really didn't want yet another wireless system broadcasting micro/radio waves in my house. It seems every year they come out with studies proving how harmful the background radiation is from wireless things we use everyday (cell phones, wireless routers, etc) and I just want to avoid as much of that in the house as I reasonably can. In our house, we only have one wireless router, and that's pretty much it. I don't judge anyone who uses wireless systems, and if you love high-quality wireless devices and detest wired systems, then the A40 Wireless System is probably the way for you to go, but as for me, this wired system was exactly what I wanted. I may get a lot of unhelpful votes for this paragraph alone because people hate those who seem to be hipsters (I'm really not), but I just wanted to explain one big incentive to go the wired Mixamp route for me. There's also one more big factor for me, and it is my biggest reason...

2.)The quality of a wired audio system is still the best you can get. Despite the fact that newer wireless headsets are getting better in better in quality, perhaps nearly as good as wired systems, I still prefer a wired system for headphones. There really is no better way to transfer audio data that translates to higher quality sound than in a wired system. Maybe next year that won't be the case, hell maybe that's not the case right now, but I just figured I would go wired because after much research, it's a general consensus that wired gives the best quality. According to my experience with the A40s, this is true. This way, there are absolutely no risks of pops, interference (although that really shouldn't be the case with the 5.8 Mixamp as it uses a different frequency than every other wireless device out there), and all of the cons of a wireless system.

So there you go, the two biggest reasons I went with the Mixamp over the 5.8 Mixamp. I traded the convenience for worrywart health precaution and audio quality, but I'm glad I did.

Finally, I'll give you a really nice pointer that helped me tremendously. I have a two-year-old Xbox 360 Elite and a relatively new Playstation 3 slim. Instead of buying accessory plug-ins for the 360 and then unplugging and plugging the optical cable every time I want to switch between the systems, I did something much simpler. Both systems are hooked up to our HDTV via HDMI cables. All I did was hook my optical cable into the optical out on the TV, plugged the USB power cord for the Mixamp into the TV, set up each system to output dolby digital, and voila! It's easy, it's super effective (lame Pokemon reference aside), and now I don't have to bother with it anymore. It's a great set-up! I hope that is helpful to somebody out there.

Ok, I think I'm all out of words to use for the product. I hope all of this was helpful. Take care.

Hello, this is D-Day1944, and today I will be doing a review on the Astro A40 Audio System (2013 Edition). I know that many of you have been waiting for this one. So, let us get started.

Introduction:

Astro has already proven themselves as a one of the most successful gaming headphone brands in recent memory. However, with Turtle Beach snagging the contract for the new headset licensed by MLG (Major League Gaming), and Tritton having made their turnaround with the 720+, things are more difficult for the A40. To make matters worse, Astro's old rivals, the Beyerdynamic MMX 300 and Sennheiser PC 360, did not make things any easier for this new edition. The most talked about this year, however, the Plantronics Commander, has made things even harder. With all these new competitors, does the A40 still have the sound performance to best its rivals, or has time really taken a toll on this consistent successful performer? Also, should you even consider to upgrade to the 2013 edition? Those questions will be answered soon, so stay tuned!

Out of the Box/Looks:

To start out, if you have already have owned the Astro A40 System, there will not be much change here. However, if you have not, here is to explain what the box looks like.

To start out, the box itself has the Audio System logo on it. On the back, there is a quick set-up guide for those who are new to how a gaming headset is supposed to be hooked up, and on the sides, their is additional information about the A40 specifications.

Now, as you pull of the cover of the box, you are greeted with a eye catching design of graphical artwork. You will then notice a tab sticking out. Once you pull back the tab, the headset itself will appear. There is a 3.5mm input located on the left side. Once out of the case, you can adjust the metal sliders to change how big you want the headphone to be.The skeletal frame looks eye catching as well. If you look at the plates, you cam remove them, which reveals an Astro "A" embossed on it. These plates, or speaker tags, are unique in which you can buy different sets, or customize your own at their official site. Also revealed are two 3.mm inputs in which you can add the microphone on either side. Thus far, this is the only company I have seen who does this. As said before, the A40 is no longer sponsored by MLG, so the embossed MLG logo has been replaced by the Astro logo instead.

Moving on, there is another compartment you pull up, which, once done, will reveal the new mixamp (I will explain how this differs from the 2012 version later in the review). I heave to say, the mixamp definitely has some retro vibe going for it, with its retro-like analog controls and curves. It reminds me of when space invaders was still in its prime.

Afterwards, you will notice a ribbon. Once you pull up the ribbon, you will notice some papers regarding the Astro family, and a congratulations one as well. Under these papers, there are the cables that you will need. The cables are as follows:

A 3.5mm to TOSlink cable.

A 3.5mm Male to 3.5mm Male cable for streaming music or "Daisy Chaining" or the new Stream mode (I will cover this later in the review, along with the Daisy Chaining.)

A 2.5mm Male to 2.5mm Male cable for Xbox Live Chat.

A PC Splitter.

A 3.5mm Male Cable with a mic mute switch that you plug in to the Headset.

A USB Cable.

These are all the cables needed to hook up with any system. The cables themselves have strong wiring, and the Microphone is flexible and pliable for any position once you stick it in the headphone itself.

Well, that covers what is in there and what you will be using. Next up, Build Quality.

Build Quality:

To put it simply, to Astro A40 system is very solid. Initially, I was a bit concerned due to many gaps in the plastic, as well as partially exposed cables of the headset. Through my two weeks of testing, neither of which gave me problems. If anything, I did not even snag a single cord. The headset is also very flexible, so it will not get broke easily. The skeletal frame of the headphone also made me nervous, but, after tossing it a couple of times on the coffee table, the headphone still worked properly.

As for the mixamp itself, it also performed very well. The mixamp's build is so good that even a couple accidents of it falling on the floor did not even break it, let alone scratch it.

In the end, the Astro A40 really did not break a sweat. Nothing low was here, which is good considering the $249.99 price tag.

Comfort will be the next topic in this review.

Comfort:

The Astro A40's really did not give me any problems at all comfort-wise. The flexibility of the headphone was great and did not clamp on my head. The skeletal frame of the headphone made it even more lighter due to its floating design. It is surprising, as the headphone itself weighs around 350 grams. However, none of those key factors above would be worth it if the A40's did not have good earcups. The earcups themselves are made from memory foam, and there is some on the inside as well. There is also a good amount of padding on the headband. The velour materiel was breathable, and the earcups themselves could swivel 90 degrees for breaks while resting on your shoulders. I had received 7-10 hours of comfort without taking them off.

If one word comes to mind about the comfort of the A40, it would be awesome.

Alright, now the main reason whether or not you should purchase this. The Sound Performance. That, my friends, is up next.

Sound Performance:

The moment many of you have been wanting to read, the sound performance. Astro said that the new updates to their drivers make this the best Astro headset ever. I was curious to see if these claims were true as I am an owner of the 2012 Edition.

The answer would be yes. For stereo sound, the A40's were very fun to listen to. In songs like "We are the Reasons" by We Came as Romans, the A40's handled the heavily distorted bass, screeching highs, and powerful guitar strums. It sounded almost as good as a worn in acoustic woody sounding guitar. Other songs, such as "Existence" by Excision, the A40 handled the powerful bass and expansive loops well.

Now, before we take a look as to how the A40 performed in Dolby 5.1 Surround Sound, let me explain how it works:

Dolby 5.1: A closer look:

In order to achieve Dolby 5.1, Dolby headphone is mixed with Dolby Digital, which then uses 5.1 channels of audio much like in a 5.1 speaker setup. Then, DSP's (Digital Sound Processors) are used to simulate 5.1 channels of audio going to the headset. For Dolby 7.1, Dolby Pro Logic IIx is used as rear filler channels and mixed with the Dolby Digital 5.1. That is then blended in with Dolby Headphone to give Dolby 7.1

Disclaimer:

However, Consoles only output 5.1, so the hysteria behind the "Full Dolby 7.1!" is only marketing.

With that now finished, let us go back to the sound performance of the A40.

Sound Performance (Continued):

For entering Dolby 5.1, my audio has really gotten a boost, as the Astro A40's sound somewhat like a borderline physical surround sound system.

For games like Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 and Halo 4 the results were great. Footsteps were easy to detect, gunshots were great and whizzing past my head, and dialogue in the campaign was clear. Other games such as Batman: Arkham City proved to be very good. Hearing Batman fly himself through the city was awesome, and even subtle sounds like raindrops came in clear.

Now, the new mixamp has four different modes. Not only that, the Daisy Chain Adapter from the 2012 Edition has been removed. You now use the 3.5mm Male to 3.5mm Male adapter to link other mixamps if you have friends over. For audio, these change the dynamic range and compression of audio. They are as follows:

Pro

Movie

Music

Sport

I will explain how each performed.

Pro:

This setting turns down the bass response and kicks up the mids and highs. For this option, it was very pleasing, as this was my most favorite option. This option helps in games such as Halo 4, Killzone 3, Call of Duty, or Battlefield. As for others such as Infamous 2, hearing the electrical grinding was fantastic.

Movie:

This setting turns up the mid range and lowers the highs and lows. This turned out to be my second option. This was more used in games such as Batman: Arkham City and Uncharted 3: Drake's Fortune. The Sound stage was wide, and the compression is better suited for these games. While it still can be used for games like Battlefield, I would still recommend pro for those types of games.

Music:

This setting kicks up the low end and tunes down the mids and highs. With the Astro A40, the highs are not as distorted as their 2012 edition, but still, this would be my least recommended option. The low end did not help me at all in Call of Duty or others like Infamous 2. However, I will give the special mention that games like Hydro Thunder or Forza 5, you can have fun hearing the roar of the engine.

Sport:

The High end is kicked up this time for this setting, and the mids and lows are kicked down. Since the A40's had great bass, the Sport setting did not do much, but they are my third favorite, as the sound stage for certain games, such as Halo, did not go well. Games like Madden 13 or NBA 2K13 did do well, since these games really do not vender themselves of audio importance.

Well, there you have it, folks. The new additions have made the audio for the 2013 A40 sound better. It actually sounds slightly better as its nearest rival, the Sennheiser PC 360's, but still not as great as the Beyerdynamic MMX 300's.

As for the microphone, it performed well. It is not a condenser type, but it did well in blocking ambient noise and my teammates could always hear me.

As for the stream option, I had a friend help me stream a video and it turned out well. Basically, if you hook up a 3.5mm Male to 3.5mm Male cable from the streaming option to your PC or Mac, you can have audio and voicing going from the mixamp to the PC or Mac. I would rather just use a capture card, but the mixamp did do a good job. Anyway, back to the review!

The SVM (Selectable Voice Monitoring) that is built in to the mixamp has improved, but still is not necessary. With that note, that brings me to what is not hot about the mixamp.

The mixamp I got for this review is the repaired model. My initial model had distortion upon turning the knobs and the signal wobbles between the drivers when the mixamp was below 15%. It is something to be concerned about, but I do have to mention it for disclosure's sake.

With the Sound Performance done, it is time for the verdict.

Verdict:

Many have tried to knock it from the throne, but only a few have budged it. The Plantronics Commander, Senneheiser PC 360, Tritton 720+, and Beyerdynamic MMX 300 have budged it, but the new 2013 A40 has helped it stay as one of the best gaming headsets available. It looks like that ASTRO Gaming still has what it takes to develop high quality products. While it may cost $249.99 + optional speaker tag additions or a optional carrying case, few can match what it can do and what it offers.

I give the Astro A40 Audio System (2013 edition) a 4.5/5 Stars rating.

Thank you for reading and I hoped you enjoyed. Join me next time were I will cover the Tritton 720+. After hearing so many good things about the 720+, I cannot wait for the review to happen. Until next time, this is D-Day1944,

Hello everyone, D-Day1944 with an update. It seems that my 720+ review will be scrapped. Instead, I have opted for the Turtle Beach Sierra for my next review. I am terribly sorry for any inconveniences and hopefully this will not happen again. Anyway, that is all.

This has been D-Day1944, signing out.

Best Deals for ASTRO Gaming A40 Audio System, Black - Xbox 360

I already own a pair of these and use them for my game consoles, however they are capable of much more! I've also used them on my iPhone and laptop. The sound quality of these headphones is near audiophile level. The directional precision is impeccable, the quality is so high that I had to change the way I sound-whored in Battlefield. I own a pair of X41s and Tritton AXPROs, they're now retired and collecting dust. The build quality is very impressive and comfort level is unparalleled. Astro actually studied the amount of pressure required to maintain comfort. They don't hurt even when I'm wearing my glasses and 3D glasses at the same time. Both of the microphones on the headset are very good too. The boom mic is my favorite with it's ability to be moved to the other side with a quick pull and push. The in-line mic is also very good and if you're not a fan of boom style mics offers a great alternative. When they're plugged into the mix amp, they provide the best clarity and noise cancelling for the mic I've ever experienced. If you take gaming serious and want to compete on a higher level, these are the headphones for you.

Honest reviews on ASTRO Gaming A40 Audio System, Black - Xbox 360

I have had my A40 system for about 6 months now, and it's the best purchase I've made in a while. I've tested all the major headsets available, and this one is by far the best. It sounds amazing, it's extremely comfortable to wear, and Astro Gaming is a great manufacturer. It's obvious to me that Astro takes great pride in all of their products, and I highly recommend buying directly from them, rather than amazon.

The Headset:

The headset is very easy to adjust, and fits all headsizes. On both sides of the headset are speaker tags. These tags are detachable, and comes in packs of three. Two solid ones, and one with a hole (for the mic). If you don't need the mic, you can remove the tag with the hole and replace it with a solid one, giving the headset a more symetric look. Astro allows you to upload images and design your own speaker tags, which is great for customizing your headset. The mic is a single boom with no wires. The mic is very high quality, and will attach to both sides of the headset. As far as sound goes, I give the Astros a 9/10. I think the bass could be a little deeper, but I'm not complaining at all.

The Mixamp:

The mixamp is pure genius. There is only one wire going from the headset to the mixamp. If you're playing Xbox, you will also have a wire going from the controller to the mixamp. I strongly suggest that when you buy this system, you get the TOSlink cable for the best possible sound. The mixamp has two knobs on it. The main one is the master volume control. The smaller controls the game sound to voice sound ratio. The mixamp runs of USB power, which is great because the Xbox has two USB ports on it. You can also get 4 AA batteries which will give you 12-14 hours. Astro just released a new version of the mixamp, which now supports use with the PS3 right out of the box.

The cables:

The system comes with tons of cables, allowing you to connect it with just about anything. It includes a cable to plug your headset into a headphone jack and a mic jack, a cable to plug your headset into a headphone jack, and a few other cables that I have never used. Astro makes sure that you have all of the tools necessary to maximize your headset.

Customer Support:

My headset got a short in the wiring a couple months after purchase. Astro responded quickly to my emails, fixed the headset in about 3 days, and got it back to me just over a week after it broke. They clearly care about customer satisfaction.

Astro Gaming:

Astro offers many accessories and replacement parts for the A40 system. If you have any gaming needs, Astro probably has something just for it. You can also download product manual on their site before making any purchases.

I love my A40 system, and as soon as Astro comes out with a new model, I'll be grabing that one as well. Hopefully it will be wireless.

INTRO:

Please dont mistake me for a complainer, hater, troll, etc. This is my honest review. I believe Astro can and will fix these problems. But until they do, people need to know what they are getting into.

LONG STORY SHORT:

As of 01/04/2013, do not update the firmware for the mixamp! I immediately updated, and I regret it. It has caused the mic to be complete poop. As of right now, from reading on multiple forums and reviews, the best thing you can do is

1. Get a better quality USB cable than the one it ships with.

2. Possibly plug the USB cable into a different device or wall outlet than the one you're using.

THE DETAILS

Some background on the problem history of the 2013 edition: There were reports of very low mic volume, meaning your friends could not hear you or you sounded muffled. There were also reports of the audio dropping out when certain things (loud noises) happened in game. Astro released a firmware update that "fixed" the low mic volume. They supposedly released another that fixed the sound dropping in and out. Many people have said the sound dropping out is due to the crappy USB cable the items ships with, and that replacing it with a decent one (the ps3 charge cable for example) completely fixes the problem.

When I first hooked up my headset to my 360, according to my friends, I sounded fine. Also, incoming sound sounded great to me. After I stupidly decided to update the firmware, I started sounding like poo according to my friends.

SUMMARY:

Just DO NOT update the firmware until Astro releases a new version and it is confirmed as working (I will update this review then)

I want to like this headset. It really does sound amazing. But the mic problem is a deal breaker. I paid $250 for a gaming headset. If I only cared about incoming sound, I could get a much cheaper set of headphones. But since this is a gaming headset, the mic should work perfectly, and it's not even close.

Current recommendation: Do not buy the Astro A40 2013 edition.

I truly hope to be updating this review and giving it more stars. I am waiting on Astro support to respond to my email. We shall see what happens.

UPDATE 1/17/2012

Still no firmware update from Astro. I did however communicate with a support representative about my headset. (They only communicate through email which means it can be slow). Even though the problem is clearly with the mixamp, they sent me all new cables and a new mic. While its great that they sent all this for free, I didn't really need it. The problem is with the mixamp. It needs a firmware update to fix how a persons voice sounds. For the record, Astro has said they are working on a firmware update for the "noise gate" problems. They have also said they plan to release "an update" sometime in January. Well, I got tired of waiting. I initiated a return through Amazon. The process was painless and Astro even contact me so they could give me a free shipping label for my return. This part of customer service was again, amazing. I really wish this product had worked out. Even though it isn't a bad product, for the price, it should have worked flawlessly. I will try to update this review again if I see they release firmware that works.

Current recommendation: Do not buy the Astro A40 2013 edition.

UPDATE 1/25/2013

I see that today Astro made a new blog post about firmware updates. I am a bit confused though, because I don't actually see any new updates. I can't test this since I no longer have the product.

UPDATE 2/14/2013

Astro released another firmware update today. Again, I no longer have the headset, so I cant test it. But here are some quotes from their forum page on the current firmware update. I think they speak for themselves:

"I did this livestream test using the new stream port with the update firmware and this is how it sounds. Basically my mic quality isn't good at all, it sounds muffled and cuts in and out if I speak over a certain octave."

"So I updated my mixamp now I get now sound except voices from the mixamp, I am playing black ops 2 btw"

"They still need to clean up the background hiss. I honestly feel they should turn down completely the game volume from this port."

"Just updated the firmware, now it's not working at all. Plugged to my computer via USB to power and optical (SPDIF out) for sound. Using the optical cable no sound at all is coming out. I tried setting USB as default and there's barely any sound coming out."

"the voice output has gotten a little bit better, but im still noticing aproblem with it picking up my voice"

Again, I can't say this is happening to everyone and I can't test it myself. Just take this into consideration guys.

Final recommendation: research the latest firmware update. If it has fixed everything for people, consider buying the Astro A40's.

Current recommendation: Do not buy the Astro A40 2013 edition.

This game was fantastic! I was a huge fan of the first game, and admittedly I was skeptical if this game would be worth the money. XCOM enemy within, adds to what was great in last year's title, and improves it by adding new strategic elements (mechs and mutants). The mech and mutant additions, are modifiers to your existent squad. The mutants and mechs add significant strategic ability to your squad, but they must be weighed against the expense in developing these classes and the downside of mechs of not being able to use cover. I was concerned that this would make your squad too strong compared to the enemy, however this game adds excellent new enemy units to help balance both sides to the encounter.

These strategic elements, make the old levels play like new while also adding a new level of strategy to consider when assembling your squad. In addition, XCOM adds new game modes that help to prevent the mini-missions from becoming too repetitive. This includes game types: (1) escorting a civilian, (2) king of the hill and (3) capture the flag. In addition to these new game types, XCOM adds a new enemy, EXALT further adding to the new layers to this game.

One of my few criticisms of the first game was that every single level played the same, and after significant play became repetitive. XCOM Enemy Within fixes this flaw, and I stress that I cannot recommend this game higher. I encourage anyone on the fence to buy this title and enjoy hours of entertainment!

XCOM: Enemy Within has finally arrived.

The "Commander Edition" (as it's called on Consoles) includes:

the full game XCOM: Enemy Unknown (previously released on Xbox360/PC/PS3)

all previously released DLC & updates (i.e. Operation Slingshot; Elite Soldier Pack)

the new Enemy Within over-haul (See Below)

And a few unmentioned changes to the game:

Enemy AI has been greatly improved and enemies are deadlier than ever

New appearance and language options for soldiers (Russians speaking Russian!)

Can award medals to soldiers that give unique bonus attributes (e.g. Never Panic, etc)

Select "Second Wave" game-play options unlocked from the start! (very fun)

The Enemey Within part is key as much of the game has been tweaked, vamped up, and generally been improved upon. Enemy Within is absolutely PACKED with new features and more than more than make up for the purchase price (imo). So far I have had only minor issues with game play; I have encountered one glitch that forced me to fail (or reload) on one of the early EXALT missions, an NPC became stuck on a mission and I could not progress. Be very careful on Ironman mode until this is patched. Otherwise, game-play had been phenomenal just what I've been waiting for!

Notes (correct me if I am wrong):

*Does not share save files with XCOM: Enemy Unknown

*Does not share Achievements with XCOM: Enemy Unknown

*Everything is on one disk and there are no codes or vouchers for dwnld

*May cause a sever lack of sleep

---

New Additions (taken from above):

* New Weapons and Equipment: Give your operatives an extra tactical edge with new projects from your engineering team and the Foundry

* New Enemy Threats: Adopt new tactics to counter the threats from two new alien types and a deadly new organization known as EXALT.

* New Strategic Resource: A valuable new alien resource, known as Meld, has been discovered. Secure it on the battlefield and use it carefully back at base to unlock new research and upgrades.

* New Tactical Challenges and Maps: Cloak-and-dagger and intelligence operations provide new tactical challenges on over 40 new battlefields.

* New Multiplayer maps, units, and abilities: Create your custom squad from a wider array of options and dominate your opponent in intense, one-on-one, turn-based matches.

* New Soldier Abilities: Research a new alien technology to advance the capabilities of your operatives:Gene Mods: Construct the Genetics Lab to physically enhance your operatives? abilities including augmentations to the chest, brain, eyes, skin, and legs. MECs: Build the Cybernetics Lab to enable the construction of the new Mechanized Exoskeletal Cybersuit, or MEC. The new MEC Trooper class has specialized abilities and each suit can be upgraded with new weapons including the flamethrower and grenade launcher.

Best Deals for XCOM: Enemy Within

I'm a HUGE fan of the original 1994 XCOM UFO Defense. There is still no turn-based strategy game that can touch it (save-for the graphics of course). Yes, even though it's from 1994. I highly recommended that you go play it (on steam, etc.), before or after playing this game. These games look ~20 years better but have only 1/2 of the scope, customization, replayability as the 1994 XCOM UFO Defense game.

If you were excited about (and purchased) XCOM Enemy Unknown, and loved it, then this is still worth getting to see all the new content and maps. If you look at it as purchasing a bunch of DLC at once, then it takes the sting away from needing to buy the game again. (hoping for more DLC but not holding my breath)

If you thought XCOM:EU was frustrating and complex, avoid this game. It's more complex.

But, hopefully, you somehow missed XCOM:EU, are unaware/don't care that the developers fell a little short of the original 1994 game, and really want to find a challenging turn-based-strategy game with a revolutionary console UI, excellent graphics, jump-out-of-your-seat fun moments and hours-upon-hours of replay potential. Then you can just buy this game, by itself, and be happy as a clam.

Honest reviews on XCOM: Enemy Within

I Loved the original xcom and this expansion pack made the game even more enjoyable. I high recommend this to anyone who likes strategy games.

I'd love to give this a good review, but I can't for two reasons:

1) It's a bit unfair to release no content for an existing game as a new game instead of a DLC. I do like the new content, but it doesn't really change anything fundamental.

2) There's something buggy (perhaps it's just my disk). I've had 2 Ironman gamefiles that refuse to load due to file corruption. So frustrating and without the fun of trying to save a game for the jaws of defeat after a squad-wipe.

After much anticipation I recieved this game, and it's the bestversion of Q*bert since his arcade release. The graphics are justamazing, the game play stays true to the original. If you buy one classic this year make it Q*bert for pc, or Playstation. You won't be sorry.

Clearly, this is a dated video game. If you aren't old enough to vividly remember hearing that President Reagan had been shot by a would-be assassin, you are not going to appreciate this game. It is simplistic and the graphics are crude by contemporary standards. However, in its day, this game was novel and refreshingly fun. It is an old style arcade video game which is essentially a challenging moving puzzle, not a more modern ultra-realistic killing simulation. I spent many hours in my misguided and misspent youth feeding quarters into the Q*bert machine at my local pub. It is a nostalgic treat to be able to waste a few hours in my misguided and misspent middle-age playing Q*bert on my home computer. The fact that the game costs less than one or two nights of quarters in the arcade machine just improves the experience by appealing to my frugal nature. This game isn't slick and it isn't sophisticated. However, it is still fun. They have added a few new features, but I prefer the classic version. They have certainly captured the fun of the original version. Now, if they could only find that cute little co-ed from the dorm next to mine who used to watch me play, it would be like my college days all over again......Recommended without reservations to all baby boomers with receding hairlines. There seems to be a minor glitch with my system, Windows XP Pro. Every once in a while, the sound will stop abruptly until you close the game and restart. It does not happen often and I can be forgiving of this flaw in an old friend, particularly when the game isn't marketed as XP-compatible. However, I did withhold one star and only ranked it with four stars because this game is so simplistic compared to modern games. It hasn't aged well, but how many of us have?

I had as much fun now as I did years a go when I first played it. I would recomend it to anyone who use to play it.

Flow is a good game. Flower is a GREAT game. But Journey... Journey is the best game I've played in my life, and I've been playing since the days of the Nintendo Entertainment System in the 1980s. The following review is SPOILER FREE.

It's difficult to put into words what exactly makes Journey so special. As the title implies, it's more of an "experience", and I might even call it a spiritual/digital pilgrimage, as odd as that might sound. I have never before been so captivated while playing a game, so fully immersed, and so interested in what would come next. This accomplishment is even more remarkable when you consider that Journey contains no dialogue (written or spoken), and breaks many of the standard conventions that gaming relies upon.

My recommendation for your first time through is to play it in solitude, in a darkened room, preferably with a good sound system, as the music is phenomenal. On the visual side, an HDTV is a must, and the larger the screen, the better. This is an incredibly immersive experience, and the more you can focus on it, the more you will get out of it. On subsequent playthroughs, it's fun to watch a friend play, and take joy in their reactions to the wonders they experience.

Journey contains an orchestral soundtrack that is breathtaking, and fits the game perfectly. The visuals are equally spellbinding, and they become more and more fantastic as your journey progresses. Photos do no justice to the feelings that Journey's sweeping landscapes will evoke in you.

One of my favorite aspects of Journey is that it can be completed, from start to finish, in a mere two hours. This means that going back and revisiting this incredible experience is relatively easy, even for those of us who are pressed for time between jobs and real world responsibilities. Journey can be played any evening after work, and it's fantastic to revisit its immersive, therapeutic, and breathtaking world. Making this game short was not a mistake, but a stroke of genius. There is no bloat, and every minute spent in the experience is finely tuned to provide maximum enjoyment, emotional stimulation, and thought provocation.

I downloaded each of these games as they were made available on PSN. Therefore, I do not own the physical copy, so I cannot comment on the packaging or the bonus materials. My review is strictly for the content of the games themselves, and I give this collection my highest possible recommendation.

I've played through Journey several times, for a few reasons. The first time I played the game, the typical "gamer" in me came out. The goal, to get from beginning to end, while trying to take in some sights along the way. After I completed the game, I got it. It hit me what the point was of the game, and I restarted my Journey again the next night. I spent more time looking around, and found little hidden symbols along the way. Then suddenly someone showed up in the game with me. You can't talk, or type in the game. They are just there. You can chose to run around together or not. These other people just drift in and out in the game, all on their own journey. After I completed the game a second time, I had spent longer enjoying the amazing music and the astonishing visuals through the game. I put it away and didn't play for a while.

Then some time later, I learned there was such thing as players called "white cloaks". I wanted to see one, so I went again into the game and meandered around online. I met one who was on their journey, and decided to play through the game with them. We had so much fun working together. We had no way to communicate, we just had to use our intuition. We completed the game together, and it was almost a shocking moment for me. This game and it's meaning are so much deeper than one can understand on the first play through. The older you are, the more the meaning of this game will touch you.

After working for a while, I finally found all the hidden symbols in the game, and became a white cloak as well. My red garment turns white when I play, and my scarf regenerates itself, letting me fly for longer periods of time. While the game itself is short, it's got enough content for several play throughs. There is an incredibly deep meaning to the Journey, it's what the journey stands for. It's who you meet along the way, and your choices of whether to go alone, or take the journey with someone else. You can't "die" in the game as others have mentioned, but that's because it would defeat the meaning of the game. I agree with what others have said. Play this game alone (not offline, just alone at your home without distractions of other people around), on the best TV you have, with the best sound and in a dark room or in the evening. You will get the best visuals from the game, and have a better environment for contemplating the full meaning of the game. There is much depth to be found in it's simplicity.

Best Deals for Journey Collector's Edition - Playstation 3

I was cautiously optimistic as I prepared to play Journey for the first time. There were so many glowing reviews by game journalists that I could not discount its quality, however I wasn't completely convinced of its greatness and so approached it with hope and a slight amount of pessimism.

There have been many defining moments with video games that I've experienced in my life. The joy and wonder of discovering likes of Pac Man and Centipede in the arcade as a five-year-old. As I grew up and video games changed, my horizons opened up with the possibility for adventure in The Legend of Zelda on the NES. Super Mario Brothers, Mario 64, The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, Doom and Half Life. Each of these represented major evolutional steps in video games. Exploration, adventure, 3D worlds, immersion, storytelling. I look back fondly on all of those experiences but in doing so realized that as the years have gone by these types of moments came with less frequency and impact. I love games such as Mario Galaxy, Red Dead Redemption and Skyrim. I can appreciate the mind-blowing quality and depth of these games but they don't stack up to the experiences of my youth with, arguably, vastly inferior games.

It only took a short time with Journey to come to the realization that I was experiencing something that I had been missing for many years. Chills ran down my spine. My pulse quickened. I was enthralled. It was not immediate but grew like a wave, building slowly and consistently until the wave broke in a crescendo that was moving and awe-inspiring that left me speechless and teary-eyed. I had not been affected like this in years and perhaps ever.

Journey is an experience that is a privilege to partake in. It evokes a range of emotions from joy and wonder to fear and heartbreak. The visuals are a sight to behold. It is simple, but not simplistic. It will make you ponder life, friendship, love, loss and triumph. Journey deserves to be experienced.

Honest reviews on Journey Collector's Edition - Playstation 3

Being a person who is detrimentally opposed to purchasing any and all digital content it killed me to not play these games so I overjoyed at finally being able to buy a physical copy of these games and I did so without hesitation. I can only comment on the 3 main games as of now since I haven't checked out the bonus content or the mini games yet and waiting till I have finished and satisfied with the 3 main releases in this collection.

Flower: An absolute joy to play. It has been decades since I played a game and found myself smiling and actually feeling happy playing it. It's such a simple game with no spoken dialogue, no words, no context given or anything. You use one button essentially, have the visuals and music throughout the game and nothing more. I found something akin back to a Disney movie of sorts about good and evil that is told so subtly that its mind boggling as to how they told a story that is barely there using so little and having such an effect on me. I played the game twice and had just as much fun the second time. Its a very soothing game, very peaceful and yet instills a sense of dread at certain points.

Journey: Like so many others, it made me cry at the end. I can't explain why or how but I just felt a surge of happiness that it made me tear up right at the last section of the game. Again it told this story using very little at all beyond just images and interpretation. Although this game seemed to have more story to it. Sadly I can't go into details without spoiling anything, but once you play it you will see what I mean. Wonder, happiness, sadness, danger, loneliness and excitement were feelings I had when playing this game. I played it twice but I'm holding off as I don't want to overdue, this will be a game I come back to again soon but I don't want to wear out its welcome.

Flow: Not a terrible game but just not something I enjoyed. It was fun, interesting and different. But it just felt unfinished and the controls left something to be desired. I didn't hate it by any means but it just didn't resound with me the way the other 2 games did. This was also their first game so growing pains are to be expected and you can definitely see they made a huge leap in their skills when making flower and further polishing themselves with journey.

All in all I can't recommend this collection enough. For 30 bucks purchasing it new shouldn't be a problem because I got more out of these for 30 bucks than I have spending 500 bucks on big name games from the past 2 or 3 years. I reminded me of why I love games like I did when I was a kid instead of just spending 60 bucks on brand x AAA title of the month and going through the motions only to finish it and forgetting most of what I just played. Not to mention your measly 30 bucks will support this amazing developer and keep them making more great titles.

This is the game that you share with your children, because it's beautifully crafted and non-violent. The underlying messages are there, about how we are destroying our planet. It's packaged in a wonderful story with excellent visual and sound. Remember "Myst"? This is Myst in the 21st century. My favorite game collection of the last five years.

The good:

C&C continues to have the best controls on a console. The new radial interface is an improvement and helps with gaining some 'speed' when selecting the commands. I was worried that this interface would be as sensitive as Mass Effect, but it's not. Selecting what you want is easy.

The missions are well balanced and are not necessarily harder than C&C3. The problem as usual is not with the game difficulty, but with selecting the controls as fast as with a mouse. I don't know if difficulty has been toned a little for this XBox 360 version, but it's manageable.

This is an expansion pack, but doesn't require the other game to play it. Missions start similarly to C&C3, without having the entire Tech Tree available from the early missions. This will help out people that never played this before, as will give them a chance to learn the game. There is also a Boot Camp section but it's too basic. SPOILER ALERT: Skipping the Boot Camp unlocks an achievement.

The bad:

C&C games have never been known for deep stories, but this game really has the most confusing one. In the end, you watch the cut scenes for what they are and enjoy what follows after them.

My favorite faction is GDI and this game only covers NOD. However again, the good thing is that the missions bring the best out of what NOD can do, so this works out pretty good in the end.

Bottom line: If you like C&C games, you will like this one too. Until Red Alert 3 is released, there is enough material here to keep you busy, from Multiplayer, to Skirmish and Kane's Challenge matches. If you are new to this game, maybe C&C3 would be a better starting point, because it has more missions and more variety. In any case C&C games continue to be the best RTS offering on consoles.

Click Here For Most Helpful Customer Reviews >>

RTS games have a bad rap on non-computer entertainment systems and for good reason. A mouse and keyboard is better for these types of games. Its excellent to see that the control scheme has been redone for the consoles. It is very fluid and easy to use. I still prefer the PC version but this comes really close. Its a very fun game but the story expects you to have played command and conquer 3 which I found to be a more interesting game with missions that were more fun and varied.

It's a good real time strategy game and it got here the day it said it would my new copy was 15$ so great deal! but less than a week these scam artists honestly think anyone should pay 50+$ for a game that originally sold for 30$?! The game is fun but the asking price currently for a new copy is laughable!

The game is beyond fun. Much better than Tiberium Wars. Amazon.com had this product for $20+ CHEAPER than Wal-Mart. Gameplay is easy to master, easy to control everything, great settings, and of course, Amazon.com sent my package and it arrived a day sooner than expected. Really appreciate it.

As I said in the title, this game tried to improve on the original, but fell flat on its face. The original had its share of annoying quirks, but ultimately, it was an awesome action-packed ass-kicking thrill-ride. The story itself, cheesy as parts were ("Hey, these blueprints will come in handy. I wonder what they're doing just sitting here."), wasn't half bad either. Jack's narrative was well scripted and well read. The game was like a GOOD B movie. Lots of action, and a story to go along that didn't make you want to throw up. Like Lethal Weapon, for instance.

The sequel (or I guess prequel) was like a CRAPY B movie.

I was severely disappointed based my expectations from the last game. And as I said, there were too many changes, and not good ones either. The only notable changes that I liked were the ability to use Shadow more, and the ability to keep explosive cannisters in your inventory. And the graphics were improved. There may be more, but I can't remember them right now. But the weapons system was a lot worse in this one. It takes 16 shots from a .45 to bring down an unarmored baddie from something like 10 feet away. I'm no kung-fu killing machine myself, but it wouldn't take me half of a gun store to bring down one guy who's standing out in the open in spitting range.

Your adrenaline runs out too fast. In this version, you can only disarm once per group of bad guys, and holding a human shield constantly uses your adrenaline, after which Jack lets the hostage go (and he doesn't even shoot them!), although the human shields seem to be invincible, and he does say some funny things when he releases them, like "not on the first date!", "oops!", or "thanks for your help." Another thing that pissed me off was that the bosses can only be injured a certain amount before they become invincible and you have to wait while they and their infinite-spawning henchmen take potshots at you until you can fight him again. What's up with that? But the thing that pissed me off the most was that whenever you get a weapon, Jack auto-switches to it. I looked hard for a way to disable this, but I couldn't find it. Small thing, right? Well, the way it works out is that you end up wasting valuable ammo in a good gun that you need to use for long range, because you auto switch to it while you're in the middle of blasting an evil-doer from close range with a crappy short-range gun. Veeeeeerrrryyy annoying. Almost as annoying as using 14 letters to spell "very".

And finally, the worst part. The story was a huge reason why I got this game in the first place, but it's worthless. The story develops poorly and there aren't really segments of it like in the first. The result is that you don't really keep pace well. Basically, it feels like he's on one single rampage that lasts for 2 days or something like that. I had trouble telling what was exactly the climax and the end. In the first one, the story and the action were harmonized and you could tell where you were going and what was happening. Not so much here. Jack's comments aren't as witty and sharp. There's a lot of laughable pointless swearing too.

In all, they messed up the way the game plays, and they added an atrocious story to it. Although it makes better sense in the end, that closure is by no means worth it. It feels like they had half the budget to work with in making this.

I don't begrudge the money I spent on this game, especially at amazon prices, but only I got it because of the first one. If you have to choose PLEASE get the first one, and don't let this one ruin your opinion of the series. If you're a die hard fan like me, then by all means, get this one. You may like it even if you aren't a fan, because of the action. So consider yourself warned: don't expect something anywhere near as good as the original.

What the hell were they thinking?? Ok i get it its a second game but its a prequel. Usually they are better in this case its not. Ok for one the controls can be a little jerky at times but that can be gotten used to. But i mean come on the game play itself is attrocious (dont know or care if I spelled that right. Thats how bad this game is.) I loved the first game so when I heard they came out with a second one I jumped at the chance at getting it... I needed to get my head examined. The story develops poorly and there isnt a good plot like the first one and it jumps seems to go so darn slow. The auto switching of the weapons SUXX!! imagine popping off a few shots at someone then grabbing another weapon and shooting that and realizing that it feels like a gnat is trying to sting them. The game was poor in concept and if you must get this just rent it. Actually dont even rent it, its not even worth that much money.

Honest reviews on Dead to Rights II

The game is not as many other titles out there. In my opinion the game was released and not finished 1st. Not much difference from part 1 and this is unacceptable due part one was a little better thn this one. Overall the current price is really worth buyin for. But $50,$20 dollars is a waste of $$ for this one.

Reviews of Xbox 360 250GB Halo Reach Console Bundle

Xbox 360 250GB Halo Reach Console Bundle

I sold my older model Xbox and purchased this Reach bundle as a replacement. After unboxing and testing it out, I have to say its a huge upgrade from my previous model. It runs quieter and cooler since the "Slims" are built on the new 45nm "Valhalla" motherboard architecture which also require less power. Finally some built-in Wi-Fi too.

It looks beautiful...Bungie's custom artwork really sets this thing apart from the rest....work of art. The custom Reach controllers also look great and compliment the Xbox's Reach design theme. Not to mention you get "two" of them in this bundle....in my case I have a brand new spare now to store away for later.

The custom sounds when powering up this Xbox and opening the disc tray were neat, I liked them. Further adds to the Halo theme.

Also included as a bonus with the Reach Xbox bundle were codes for: Falcon Avatar accessory, Elite officer armor, Spartan Recon helmet, an episode of Halo Legends called "The Package", and a 2-day Xbox Live Gold trial. The console is also Kinect-ready.

5-stars, anything less would be absurd.

**This review is for the console itself, not the game.**

My Pro was getting old, slow, and loud. Having to reallocate memory as DLC, arcade games, and save files accumulate on the 20 GB HDD was getting old, too. So my love for the Halo universe convinced me that things had lined up such that I could upgrade in style with the new Halo: Reach bundle.

Overall, fantastic console.

LOOKS:

Stylish silver matte coating with gray and black Halo-themed decorations sprinkled over it. Does not retain finger prints (know this was a big issue a lot of people over-exaggerated with the other 360-S's -though why you're fondling your 360 after you get it set up is unclear to me). Controllers look very nice, too I love the new look. New power block (downsized from the clunky original "brick") is black and more aesthetically streamlined.

PERFORMANCE:

Loads quickly, smoothly, and without problems. Does exactly what it's supposed to. Have not tried the wireless yet, as I used a wired connection. Controllers respond very well (though it might just be that I'm used to old/worn controllers). Standard headset mic still requires you to yell into it, but if you don't have to worry about keeping your voice down, it works just fine.

HEAT MANAGEMENT:

Console itself stays pretty cool for such a device. The S's new heat sink system appears to whisk away most of the heat from the internal components and out the vents, presumably keeping the CPU, GPU, and other chipsets cooler.

**NOTE: I've read a lot of reviews complaining the S runs hotter than the original. This is not accurate. The air coming out of the console is hotter. This means more heat is being expelled and that less heat is trapped inside the console, meaning what matters the temp of your hardware is staying cooler.

NOISE:

Runs whisper-quiet. I played it for 7-8 hours straight (judge if you will I was just, you know, testing the hardware =P), stayed consistently quiet the entire time.

Overall, again, great console. I'm quite happy with this purchase.

Plus the game made it that much better. Quite simply the best Halo game since Halo: CE (Reach is now the king of the Halo games, offering the most gameplay features, co-op opportunities, fearsome and unpredictable AI, game options/customization, sexy visual/audio experience, replayability, character variety, and overall value ever in a Halo game).

Best Deals for Xbox 360 250GB Halo Reach Console Bundle

Well, a week or so before Halo: Reach came out, my 360 decided it would be a great time to start freezing up for no reason, and I wasn't going to pay to get it fixed when I got a replacement refurbished console just 9 months ago (finally got RROD'd but fell under the seemingly unlimited extended warranty for the 3 flashing lights). So I decided to go ahead and get the Halo: Reach bundle as a replacement. I fixed the old console anyway (unsurprisingly, the shoddy X-Clamps were the culprit), but figured it would be a nice upgrade to have regardless since my old one is the original model.

The bundle is pretty nice for the $400 price tag. You get two controllers, a copy of Reach (with some extras thrown in for good measure) and of course, the console itself. Being an owner of an original Xbox 360, it's easy to notice the advantages the 360 S has over the old model. The biggest improvement is ventilation; you'll notice a lot of hot air coming out of the console and might worry it's overheating as a result, but it's actually doing a better job of pushing more air out (unlike the old console, which had terrible overheating problems). I haven't cracked open the console itself to see what they changed on the inside since I just got it and don't feel like voiding my brand new warranty (here's to hoping they got rid of the horribly cheap X-Clamps in the old model and replaced them with actual screws this time) but overall it seems like it does a much better job of dissipating heat so it seems like everything inside should work fine. There's numerous other improvements as well; built in Wireless N (which works great and takes almost no time to set up), touch sensitive buttons (which make cool Halo noises when used), and a sleeker, more angular design than the original 360 model. Oh, and one of the best parts of the new design? The console no longer sounds like a freight train! I wouldn't say it's "whisper quiet" like it's advertised as, but it is definitely quieter. The disc drive no longer makes your console sound like your Xbox is blasting off into space when in use. And if you install your games (which you should, with 250g of space to spare) it's even quieter. It still makes some noise, but at least it doesn't sound like your Xbox is trying to calculate the true value of Pi anymore. As for the design of the console, the console in this package is Halo-themed; it's silver and has the ONI logo on it and is labeled as an "Archive Reader." The Silver finish is great looking, so it will fit in well with the rest of your electronics so you won't have to be embarrassed to have it in your entertainment center.

The two wireless controllers are also themed in a similar fashion to the console (again, a nice silver finish with black used for the shoulder buttons and the bottom part). Everything else about the controllers is the same, they just look cooler.

The new Xbox also comes with a smaller power brick (albeit, there still is one). No, it isn't Reach themed (that would be sort of weird anyway) but it's smaller and the console itself uses less power overall.

There are a few disappointments with the system (specifically related to all Xbox 360S'es, not the Halo: Reach one in particular since they're the same anyway). There's no memory card slot, so if you overpaid for one of those years ago (like I did) so you could carry your profile to your friend's house, well, you can basically throw it out since now you'll have to use USB drives. Also, the package doesn't come with an HDMI cable or a component HD AV cable, even though they had no issues packing one in with the Pro models almost 5 years ago. Guess Microsoft is trying to squeeze a few extra dollars out of purchasers. I had a spare HDMI cable anyway, so it didn't matter to me, but make sure you get some sort of HD capable cable if you buy this bundle and have an HDTV because otherwise you're stuck with standard def (and don't go and buy MS's overpriced cables, you can get an HDMI cable that's just as good for way less here on Amazon).

I won't review Halo: Reach in depth here since there's already a ton of reviews about the game, but it is a potential Game of the Year candidate. It can definitely keep you entertained until the next generation of consoles, and probably even longer (after all, Halo 2 was more popular than any Xbox 360 game till Gears of War came out about a year later). It's worth buying a 360 for in my opinion, or more specifically, this bundle.

In addition to Halo: Reach, you get some extras as well. You get a code for a Recon helmet variant (normally in any pre-order or launch day copy), a code for the Elite Officer armor permutation (Limited/Legendary edition normally), a Falcon for your Avatar (better than nothing I guess, although if you really like Avatars, I guess it's cool) and an episode of Halo: Legends. Some nice extras that certainly aren't going to make or break the package, but are nice extras nonetheless.

Overall, you get a great value here. If you don't own a 360 but are interested in getting one so you can play Reach, this bundle is excellent and sports some cool looking controllers and a sexy console. If you're looking to upgrade and have the cash to spare, it's also worth the price (can always sell any extra stuff you don't need anyway). Aside from a few complaints about the console (complaints which apply to all 360 S consoles, not just the Reach one) the package is excellent.

Honest reviews on Xbox 360 250GB Halo Reach Console Bundle

System is worth the money. Like I already mentioned, when you start up the xbox, it sounds like your shields recharging and when you power down, the same. The disc drive has cool non button button that open and closes it. The two controllers are very sharp and seem a bit heavier, better quality than standard wireless controllers. This package includes two of them which is nice. There are going to be a million reviews on halo reach, so I am just going to comment on the system package, which I personally am very happy with.

Let me preface this by saying that I have been lucky to own a launch edition Pro model that never died. However, right before getting this one, that one was starting to act up. It did ok, as long as I installed games to the hard drive. But when playing games from the game discs themselves, more often than not, the console would give a disc unreadable error, often accompanied by a terrible grinding noise and sudden halt from the drive itself. It was becoming tiresome to install games with the limited HD space of the Pro model. The last nail was that my controller broke. The left trigger quit working properly. Thankfully my wife had bought this package for me as a Christmas gift. When she saw me trying to repair the controller, she went ahead and gave it to me early. Ahh, some guys are so lucky.

Now for the meat and potatoes. This console is slick. It finally went on a diet. It runs very quiet. With my old box I had to install games to the hard drive. This one runs quieter when running a game from the disc than the old one did playing from the hard drive. Of course, I still install the games, I recommend that everyone do that. I believe it adds life to the system by saving wear and tear on the DVD drive. I guess one could say that it is adding wear and tear to the hard drive, so it is a trade off. But it has been my experience over the years that hard drives are a little more robust when it comes to longevity as compared to a DVD drive spinning 100mph.

Speaking of the hard drive. I have never been happy with Microsoft's choice to not let you use other hard drives with the 360. The PS3 is much better in that regard. That wouldn't have been so bad if Microsoft hadn't also been gouging so much on the price of their hard drives. $130 for a 120 GB hard drive is ridiculous. Thankfully, this one is plenty large enough for my needs. You can install 20-25 normal games and still have room.

The other nicety is the console finally has wi-fi built in. Again, this is another area that was completely silly before. I know it was for cost cutting at the time when the systems first launched, but that doesn't explain the abnormally high price of the network adapter if you bought it separately before. In the end though, it never was an issue for me. I have a wired/wireless router. Since my 360 doesn't get moved too often in the house, using ethernet was never a problem, and I still use it with this model. I did test the wi-fi for functionality. It worked very well and was easy to setup. But since this model sits in the same place as my old box, I am continuing to use the "wire".

As mentioned before, the 360 Slim is just that. It has lost a lot of weight and bulk in the redesign. This particular version is quite attractive as well. I like the "touch" sensitive buttons on the console. Just place your finger over the disc eject button or the power button. No need to press anything. It's a small thing, but it is a nice touch, no pun intended. The accompanying sound effects are cool. However, I mostly use the controller for everything. When I want to play another game, I use the controller to open the disc tray.

The inclusion of two controllers was a nice bonus. They share the same paint scheme as the unit itself. For a Halo fanatic, this would be the ultimate. I enjoy Halo, but with perspective. It is a great series, but I like many other games, some much more. One thing of note though is that despite that manual saying otherwise, there were no batteries for the controllers in the box that I received. Surely a mixup at the factory, as I know others have stated theirs came with batteries.

One glaring omission that must be mentioned though is the lack of any HD cables. The only AV cable included is a composite cable with Left and Right audio. When paying $400 for a new system, some option for HD output should have been included. I didn't have any spare HDMI cables either. Thankfully, the HD AV cable from my old Pro model fit this one, so I am able to use component as before. Still this is silly, this is their "Best of the Best" and they didn't accommodate owners of HD televisions? (quite a few people these days)

But then again, that allows them to make money selling cables at inflated prices. If you need cables, I suggest alternatives. I am definitely a fan of the 360, I am not however, a fan of Microsoft's pricing scheme for accessories.

Hopefully this review didn't seem too harsh. The system overall is exactly what I mentioned in the title. This is the package that we should have been offered all along--sans the HD cables. It is a slick looking unit that functions very well. It is also very quiet and runs very cool. Compared to buying a new slim and all the included goodies, it is a very good value.

I bought this game the other day when it was on sale for $111,174.28. I was pretty excited about getting it because I figured it was going to be a pretty awesome and rare game.

When it arrived in the mail, I realized that it's not really a game at all. It's just a plain old hard drive for an Xbox. The damn thing didn't even fit my xbox. I tried to take it to GameStop thinking maybe I could trade it in and get at least $100,000 back in store credit, then I could buy a franchise or something, but the stupid kid at the store wouldn't give me any more than $30. What a rip off! I'm pretty sure that kid thought I was some kind of idiot that doesn't know how much an xbox hard drive is worth.

I gave this review 3 stars because the thing does make a pretty good door stop, but normally I'd only pay about $50k for a doorstop of that quality.

The game looks great. REALLY great. But you already know that, and you already know it's a essentially an interactive movie. I don't see any reviews on here yet though pointing out that the game is only 75% here. To get the final act you HAVE to buy DLC. Disappointing tactic on Capcom's part, double dipping is never cool. Treat it as a $75 dollar game, not a $60 dollar game.

People are either gonna love or hate this game, simple as that. Play the demo, it is definitely an accurate representation of what you are in store for. If you love anime like I do, well this is basically an anime, episodes and all, that involves the viewer, and makes the epic moments feel that much more epic, because you are instructed to press certain buttons. For instance, when Asura is punching rapidly, you may be instructed to press b rapidly. It really makes you feel the energy and emotions of the character. There's a little energy shooting and free-fighting too, that you could compare to any hack and slash, but this barely ever happens. The graphics are sweet and everything from the story to the visuals are over-the-top. Is it worth full price? No, you should wait a bit for a drop in price. I'm rating it 5, b/c Asura's Wrath accomplishes everything it sets out to do and then some. Definitely not a game for gamers, if that makes any sense, although maybe a gamer would find the unique approach refreshing.

Best Deals for Asura's Wrath - Xbox 360

There are good games, and there are bad games. And typically you can make a recommendation to someone based off your primary complaints about the game itself. Asura's Wrath on the other hand is a little bit different.

If you're looking for something to play and are considering "Buying This Game" you may want to give this a miss. However if you are considering "Purchasing This Title" then you may want to read on. It's really the difference between a "game" (which you play) and a title (that you watch). The reality is that Asura's Wrath is only about 40% actual gameplay. The vast majority of the experience is spent watching the story unfold, and occasionally pressing a button or two (a'la God of War), which makes it hard to call this a "game" in the truest definition of the word.

Now the good news is that the both the story and gameplay (what little there is) are actually pretty good.

The story is your typical over-the-top anime. If you've ever read Masamune Shirow's "Orion" you're going to be right at home, as the story has that whole Buddhist/Shinto style of sci-fi as it's foundation. Outside of that it's your run of the mill protagonist curling his arms and yelling at the sky while he gets all powered up/glowing/on fire... while everybody wonders how he got all super powerful, right before he punches them through a mountain, etc. You know the drill. As much as it's not the most original kind of anime based story...it's not all that bad to be honest. They also break up each "stage" into more appropriately titled "Episodes". Each has a intro credit screen (even though it's the same info each time) to give it the feeling like you're watching a series of custom made animations. Which isn't too clever and can get annoying, but at the same time you can see why they did it that way.

The other bit of good news is that when you do actually get the opportunity to actually play the game it's fun. It's not deep, complex or really all that challenging. There's basically two types of gameplay = you're either going to be running around in a small arena/area punching enemies in a 3rd person style beat-em up, and/or playing a rail shooter. And while neither of these are mind-blowing per-se, it's that mindless kind of fun that is a great way to pass a Sunday afternoon. The only real downside is that when you do actually play the game...it makes you wish that they had done more with it, and that there was more of it. The gameplay really doesn't effect the way the experience unfolds that much either which can also be a bit of a bummer.

So if you like anime/manga like Orion or Naruto and enjoy the occasional mindless-easy-play-through kind of experience then Asura's Wrath is def worth checking out. If you've got any sort of expectations of paying money for a deep gameplay experience then this would officially be something to pass on.

Honest reviews on Asura's Wrath - Xbox 360

Let me start of by saying that with all of the reviews that I had read/watched I was expecting something along the lines of Heavy Rain, or TellTale's The Walking dead in terms of gameplay. However that is not the case, while this isn't an action game such as Bayonetta, Devil May Cry, or even God of War (as in you do not unlock, and master long difficult combos) it is still quite the action game. The action is quick, fast flashy, and fun. I honestly have no idea how you could not have fun with the gameplay as it is exactly how I described, and I find it sad to see some other supposed "action" games get less trash whilst having simpler combos, and slower gameplay.

I'll next talk about the style, which I will briefly say was absolutely fantastic. The amount of detail in each, and every character model is just stunning, it truly captures a manga look like I've never seen done before. The diverseness of the models is also quite impressive when you see how much detail is put into each, and every inch of the character. While the environment can be a little low res sometimes in the ship parts, the far off shots, explosions, lights, and the entirety of the scenery more than makes up for it in my opinion.

I'll quickly interject before I get to the story that the soundtrack was also top of the notch. Each, and every tune really felt like it had meaning behind it, and the over all epicness, and grandness of the sound is just a joy to absorb.

Lastly the story (Don't worry no spoilers) was absolutely fantastic. It really gives you the feel of the more modern action anime such as Naruto, and Bleach. While that may be a problem to some as it falls into some tropes that those anime also fall into, I never got a negative vibe from it, I felt sad when I was supposed to, happy when I was supposed to, laughing when I was supposed to, and most importantly angry when I was supposed to be (Which as the name implies you will be for a majority of the game).

Does it worth the 25$ (with the final episode) I paid for it?

Yes, every peny. Rarelly I've felt the level of satisfaction I had after playing Asura's Wrath (Prince of Persia trilogy comes to my mind)

But... What is it Asura's Wrath? (AW from now on)

Well, as you might have read already, AW is more like an Interactive Anime. What does this mean? You can't change the course of the story, you rarelly die and the story develops even if you do nothing (most of the time)

STORY AND OTHER ELEMENTS:

The story is plain awesome. If you like anime then you're going to love AW, if you hate anime then stay away from it. I highly recommend to download the final chapter because it contains the real end. I was very satisfied with the story and the voie acting. Being it a japanese product highly influenced by anime, you can expect lots of screams and dramatic camera angles. The face gestures were perfect for every situation and they were rendered with extreme care. It almost appears as if they were trying to make a movie instead of a game.

The game is separated in episodes (a la tv show) and each episode even has its "middle part" with an intermission between parts that show you some art of the game (like japanese anime) It was a nice touch and does not interrupt the fight. They use it between scenes and never in the middle of dialogues or combat.

THE GAMEPLAY:

The gameplay was (as I said) limited. You do not do that much in the game, most of the time you're watching the dialogues and how the story develops and all of a sudden, QTE!!! (Quick time events) The game also has some parts where you can fight enemies (a la hack and slash but only with your fists, there are no weapons in the game... you need no weapons) and other times you have to press the inputs asked in the screen, might be a button or a button mashing or stick(s) movement. All the boss fights feel solid and this ones are a mix of the 3 things aforementioned: Free style combat, QTE, ButtonMash (at least most of them). No boss fight left me asking for more.

I would give the game a 4.5 stars because I have to be honest, I kinda hoped for a little more free style combat but even if it lacked a little in this field, I don't think the game deserves 4 stars so I rounded it to 5.

REPLAY VALUE

Kinda low. It comes from beating the game on a higher difficulty (only 3 levels of diff) and from the archievements. I hoped that after beating the game you would have the opportunity to watch the whole story in a single sit (like a movie) but there is no such option (makes sense in a way because the fighting parts) The REAL replay value, in my humble opinion, comes from the desire to watch the story again.

FINAL WORDS

I must admit it is hard to describe this game because I've never played something like this. Not because the gameplay is an innovation but because it is something highly focused on telling a story and it engages you. Look at it like this. It's a nice show that you can have for 20$ and that allows you to be part of it (even if it's only a little)

I highly recommend this game to anyone who likes a good story and does not mind the anime style. Do not expect a lot of gameplay like in any hack and slash but expect a satisfying experience with a game that is like nothing you've played before.

If, after reading my review, you're interested in the game; there is only one way to really know what is it about and how does it play: Download the demo, play it and WYSIWYG. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.
