I found this game at a very cheap price *$4.99* and I figured from the back of the case it looked like a good fun game and when I popped it into my PS2 ... I found it's a very cute and entertaining game. I like it and find that it's addictive and not as intense as other racing games but still alot of Fun. You should buy it.

I'm a middle-aged adult male. Ok, don't laugh I know I'm not the only one that has a few kid's games that they like to play but might be a little embarrassed to say so to their friends. ChoroQ is one of those games for me.

ChoroQ is....nah, I can't do it...was about to give a serious review but I am already embarrassed enough. All I'm going to say is I like ChoroQ. There, I've now made a total fool of myself...I hope you're happy.

I love this game and so does my 8 year old daughter. We play it all the time and it doesn't get old. There is always something to do in this game. If you don't feel like running around town, you can always race! And race and race and race...

What I love about this game is that it provides a story and tasks to follow. You race to earn money, then go find the parts shop in town and try to upgrade your car so you can compete in harder races that will give you bigger prize money for winning. I think about this game while I'm at work and I have a mental checklist of things to take care of within the game. It's a great game.

There are castles and ghosts. There are off road tires that need to be purchased and installed so I can win that big race I've had my eye on. There is a team that I need to join so I can sign up for the Grand Prix at some point. There are jobs to do. There are letters to read.

But mostly there is a ton of fun to be had while playing this game with my daughter. We win the races and then watch the replay, laughing each time one of us hit a wall or spun out. She laughs, I laugh. She wins races and brags about it. It's a ton of fun and one of the better PS2 games that I own.

Race to buy this one. It won't burn you out.

This Game. I pulled this game out today after completely forgetting about it for years. this is the only game out of 40+ ps2 games in my collection that i have never beat. this game is a terrible racing simulator, the graphics are comparable to most ps1 games, but it is insanely addicting and by far my favorite game. you will cry.

Loved it just as much as I did when I was a child, but now my three younger siblings have to opportunity to play one of my favorite games from the last generation of games. To anyone curious about this game, it offers a huge variety of customization, hilarity through its wackiness, as well as a nice array of races and minigames. This also supports local multiplayer so make sure you have a spare controller on hand. :)

The controller is really good for most games i play but i can never play with my friend on singleplayer games because thr controller is too big and the analog sticks just dont move right.. But other than that ive gotten all of my pistols on mosts of my games maxxed out because of he controller :)

So I bought thid controller and let me tell you that it feels great in the hands and from a design stand point its ok. You need to press quite hard to make it work, and the other design flaw is the analog sticks and the problem witht the analog sticks is that when you try to run is games like Call of duty, you simply cant becuase you cant click the analog stick in any direction.

My biggest flaw with this controller is that the turbo fire function did not work at all. It worked for about 20 minutes until it suddenly stopped working and i am very sure im going to return it.

Overrall its just a very bad controller in my opinion, just stick with the microsoft controller or a better third party controller.

I was thrilled with this game! The graphics are terrific and look just like the show, and the animated celebrites that give you the clues are adorable. Die-hard fans of the $25,000/$100,000 Pyramid will thoroughly enjoy this game, which has to be the most outstanding PC-adaptation of a game show ever made.

However, I found the following weaknesses. Many of these are incredibly minor, but hardcore $100,000 Pyramid fans will appreciate reading them...

1. Others have said this, but it bears repeating: no Dick Clark? What the... C'mon, guys, you can't have the $100,000 Pyramid without Dick Clark! 2. Again, to repeat some of the above reviews: what's with the theme music? If I can find the REAL theme music and somehow replace it, I will. The music they have is *blech*. 3. In the real show, when you get to the winner's circle, you first try for $10,000. Then, if/when you make it a second time, you try for $25,000. Then, the fastest winners are brought back for a tournament to win $100,000. With this game, it's $5,000 then $10,000, then $25,000, then $50,000 then $100,000 (or something like that). Blech. Stay true to the original game show, guys. 4. Clues that the animated celebrites give in the bonus round are often illegal. For example, one time when I played, the subject was "Things that are refrigerated." The celebrity said, "Milk, so it doesn't spoil." On the television show that would be "buzzed." You can only list items; you can't elaborate or get descriptive like that. This happens way too often. 5. On the television show, after each round, whether in the preliminary game or the bonus round, Dick Clark will usually reveal what the real answers were, often times suggesting good clues. Nothing like that happens in this game, and the user is often frustrated by not knowing what he was previously trying to guess. 6. Annoying music plays during the actual game play. Totally unnecessary. During the preliminary rounds there should be no sounds at all except for the "ding" when you get the answer, and during the bonus round, there should be nothing but the "chirps" of the time clock. 7. This is really nit-picky, but the view that you look at during the bonus round is awkward. It looks like you're seeing the winner's circle from the back row of the studio. I'd rather see the same view you see on TV; mainly, a side view of both players, with a cutaway of the current subject block from the board appearing on the bottom in the center. 8. In both the preliminary rounds and the bonus round, the animated celebrities always say little things like, "Impressive!" and "Nice going!" after you type in the right answer. That never happened on TV, and it is a waste of time, not to mention annoying.

To be fair, here are some things that I considered to be pleasant surprises...

1. After you quit each game, there are hilarious little television commercials that play during the closing credits ("Some departing contestants will receive..."). Cute! 2. The game has "7-11" and "Mystery 7" categories, with very authentic-looking logos. Great! 3. The opening sequence has a view of the stage that looks incredibly true to the television show. They even super-impose the words, "The $100,000 Pyramid" over the bonus round playing board, just like in the opening of the television show.

Not hearing Dick Clark say, "Here is your first subject...GO!" and not having the original theme music is disappointing, but all in all, a terrific game, and I look forward to more Sierra versions of classic game shows.

Graphics Excellent graphics! The set of the classic game is perfectly recreated with actual fonts that were used on the trilons (aka "flippy boxes"), and the boxes flip just like on the actual show. The characters (civilian players and celebrity players) are nicely animated, but some of their winning animations look overzealous. No Dick Clark in this one, so if you're expecting everything from the classic show, then you'll be slightly disappointed. Score (out of 5) 4.5

Sound Voices are crisp and clear, and the music is nice, however the classic $100,000 Pyramid theme is not on here. It was replaced with a livelier, jazzier rendition of the theme. I actually prefer the classic 2 themes (the original theme used from the beginning of the $10000 Pyramid to the end of the $50000 Pyramid, and the updated theme used from the beginning of The New $25000 Pyramid to the end of the $100000 Pyramid). You even have the Winner's Circle timer sound ("doot doot doot") which sounds during the last 10 seconds on both the Winner's Circle and in the main game. The only thing missing is the classic "cuckoo" sound for an illegal clue and Dick Clark, especially his classic "So long" sign-off. Score 4.5

Control You use the mouse to choose which civilian character you want, which celebrity partner you want, and which box you want to play. You use the keyboard to type in your name and your answers. You also use the keyboard's TAB key if you want to pass on a subject in either the main game or the Winner's Circle(unlike the actual show, you can come back to passed subjects in the main game). Score 5

Playability You can play one person vs the computer, 2 players against each other, and an option called Party Play (4 players with 2 players on a team). This would make an excellent party game. Score 5

Overall Not having Dick Clark in this game hurts a little because he is the best-known host of the Pyramid show since its inception in 1973 (Bill Cullen did a good job hosting the syndicated weekly $25,000 Pyramid from 1974 to 1979, and John Davidson hosted a slightly updated version of the $100,000 Pyramid from 1991 to 1992). However other than that, this game is a near-exact version of the classic show that is one of my most favorite of all time (other favorites being Match Game [I hope to see the PC version of Match Game soon], Password [I'd love to see a PC version of either Password Plus or Super Password], and The Price Is Right [which has yet to have a good computer/videogame version...a lackluster version appeared on the PC and Commodore 64 in 1990, and a NES version was developed around the same time but never released]). Overall Score 4

For a lot of game shows that have came out for the computer, they've always seemed to have a little bit of a blind-slighted feel to most gamers. They always seem to fall just a dash flat for a full-feeling of being in the actual video game. Still, most of them are still willing to find that out one day at a time. With several revamped versions of game shows on P.C. like Jeopardy, Wheel Of Fortune, and other game shows, there is one that actually tries to stand out a little bit, Pyramid. With the success of Pyramid being revived with Donny Osmond, has been an unbelieveable exciting game, but the P.C. game still needs a little fine tuning.

The $100,000 Pyramid for the P.C. was released before Donny Osmond came on with the revival of Pyramid. The game features three different versions of Pyramid, Single Play, where you have to get a certain amount of points to get to the Winners' Circle, Double Play, where two people actually play the same way like it is on the game show. Still, it does fall a little bit, without proper speakers. The third version takes the cake however. The party play version, gives a little more of an interactive version that you play with other people, like you're actually on the Pyramid. For that one, you really need to see that, and play it with more than one version. If you get this game, get it for this version of gameplay only.

Still, it would be nice to see Pyramid updated with a newer version, based on the recent revival. I just really hope that happens soon. Still, you're better off playing the version from the television, whether Dick Clark, Bill Cullen, or Donny Osmond is the host. The $100,000 Pyramid is just a fraction of the fun it was suppose to be. Try getting this one used.

One of TV's classic game shows, The PYRAMID is BACK!

Over the years game show fans played various "Pyramid" home games from different manufacturers like the original $10,000 Pyramid box game from Milton Bradley to the current box edition. There was even a PC edition (in DOS format). Now you can play "Pyramid" in several different ways (solo, 2 player & party mode) with this great new CD ROM edition! This game is a must for all PYRAMID fans and anyone who likes word games. And, just in time for the new television edition of $100,000 Pyramid (with Donny Osmond) coming back FALL 2002!

The game is fun but frustrating because the "celebrities" give the same clues over and over again. Which makes it impossible to get the correct answer and prevents you from advancing int he game. I have also run in to the same questions early on in the game.

I knew this game would get bashed. It got bashed by all the reviews of so-called critics and others. However, I had to put my 2 cents in.

First, I have at least 10+ people on my friend's list who LOVE this game. Not one has said they did not.

Second, IMO, this is a classic. And I also feel it is for the 'older' crowd who can appreciate the very cool humor this game has. If your over 40 you will love this thing. (Play on easy trust me)

This is more of a cult game, and, as with most cult movies, they bomb when they come out. They are panned by critics and then, slowly, & with a bit of time, they become classics. This is definately one of those titles.

Playability is smooth no matter what people say. The 'cover' system reminds me a lot of Quantum of Solace (another great game) and the voice overs are very cool. As the number 1 player in the world (XBox 360) said on his blog recently, it's very "refreshing" & "funny" and a nice change of pace.

I feel that the programmers deserve major brownie points for this title. It is so clever and filled with nostalgia that only a gamer from the 'actual' 80s would appreciate this. Truly, because of the new generation of kids, the humor, hidden jokes & level graphics are beyond them (with all due respect).

So, if you are a gamer who was raised with some of the first videogames that *ever* came out (Handheld Computer Football or Pong anyone?) then this title is for you.

It also would, IMO, make a great gift for an Over-40 couple who want a fun drinking game for a Friday night (on easy mode remember!).

One last thought. I've read numerous reviews on many sites as well as this one. After finishing this game to full completion (1000 gamerscore) I've realized that the developers did most of what people are complaining about ON PURPOSE. Namely, the silly 'Melee' attacks, the feminine running style of the character, the absolutely hysterical AI, and most notably, the graphics.

Again, if you're at least 40 or more, you'll appreciate this absolutely wonderful change-of-pace compared to what's come out the last few years. It's the perfect mockery to everything videogames were back in the 80s, 90s and yes, even up to today.

Kudos goes out to the whole team (who I know are reading this) for making something that is truly so refreshing and unique that I say, FORGET the bad rap. In 10 years, people will still be talking about this title for the plain and simple fact that more and more older people are getting into videogames everyday. And that is who this game is truly for.

Rented this game not knowing what to expect...and was pleasantly surprised. The game is easily beaten on its most difficult setting (there is one more difficulty you must unlock after completion) in about 6 hrs....tops. The game is quite fun, there is a lot of gunplay, and an assortment of maybe 14 different guns...maybe a few more but there is not much to distinguish a .45 from a 9mm in this game...but the variety of rifles, heavy weapons is nice.

The game allows for taking cover, blind fire behind cover, jumping over your cover etc. The controls are a bit "loose", but only gets in the way a couple of times. The enemy AI is OK, not great, and the boss battles are interesting, but nothing you cannot figure out after a try or two. The dialog is actually VERY funny, as it makes fun of all genres here. The game certainly never takes itself serious, and it really is a casual 6 hr game that would be best utilized as a rental...but I guess buy it if you cannot find it for rent and list it the next day on amazon to sell.

I say this a lot: "Comedy is hard." I don't do comedy in my own writing. I throw in some funny here and there, but usually to relieve the tension or because some amusing moment grows out of the larger narrative. But I can't imagine writing a full on piece of comedy. It's just too easy to screw up, because few things grate more than bad jokes. Weirdly enough then, the worst part of Eat Lead: The Return of Matt Hazard is not the comedy. Not that the humor shines or even really succeeds very often, but it's more consistently enjoyable than the actual game play, which is consistently dull, mixed with healthy doses of crappiness.

A little background. No, you're not forgetting anything there haven't been any other Matt Hazard games. The conceit of this game is that Matt Hazard used to be a popular action game character from way back in the 8-bit days. The opening cinematic tells his story, voiced by Arrested Development star Will Arnett as Matt Hazard. He does his standard gravely tough guy voice, and it mostly works. The set-up made me chuckle. The load screens gave me a smile. Then it came time to play this ugly, third-person, cover based shooter and I was a lot less happy. It's not horrible, but it's not fun either. There's some interesting variety as the game mixes and matches genres from Hazard's prolific game past. So you might end up fighting cowboys alongside zombies alongside space marines. My favorite baddies are from a kids water pistol game Hazard was in called Soak-em. But there aren't that many of them and the weapons they drop aren't fun. Hazard earns some power up abilities as the game proceeds he can either make his shots freeze enemies or set them on fire. Except the fire's blue (I assume because it's suppose to be pixels disintegrating) and is totally unsatisfying.

There are a lot of jokes in the game pretty much they just throw everything they've got against the wall and hope some of it amuses. Arnett does a solid job as Hazard. Neil Patrick Harris has a much smaller role as the big enemy, but there's nothing he can do to make that crappy character work. It's not a good sign that my favorite jokes almost all happened during the load screens. My favorite was where it said "Tip" and then proceeded to just give dictionary definitions of the word "tip" instead of anything to do with the game. I also like that you get 60 X-box Live achievements for just watching the credits. So there's the game's biggest selling point: easy achievement points and some smiles interspersed with a haphazard arrangement of laughs. Which is to say, not really selling points at all.

Honest reviews on Eat Lead: The Return of Matt Hazzard - Xbox 360

Within minutes of starting Eat Lead you will learn that Matt Hazzard was a big celebrity back in the 80s where he starred in a string of very successful video games. Since then he has unfortunately plummeted off the charts (due to making a Mario Kart type game) and been out of work. Destined for a comeback he is commissioned by "Wally" Wellesley to star in a new, next-generation video game. But not all is as well as it seems--Wally really wants to destroy him.

Allow me to explain: When Wally was a kid he bested every video game he played except for one--Matt Hazzards. Taken as a whole it is actually an intriguing idea for a video game as it leads to an unusual take on breaking the 4th wall.

For instance kicking off the voluntary tutorial leads to Matt Hazzard exclaiming, "Great--an in-game tutorial. God I hate these things!" and "Yeah Yeah! I know how to shoot a damn gun!"

During the beginning of one particular level--in habitual third-person/first-person fashion--the objectives start to appear in the upper right-hand corner. As they pile on they begin to cover the protagonist making him exclaim "Ok! Ok! Can we summarize this or something?" This prompts the list to be consolidated to "Shoot stuff that moves".

It gets even more clever.

In one particular instance Matt Hazzard has to fight some of the enemies from his first game and they are literally 2-D sprites running around shooting at you. The real clever part is they purposefully become more difficult to hit by turning to their sides, thinning themselves.

But all this great material is simply overshadowed by the real issue--the gameplay. Though it replicates Gears of War in this regard, it fails to be engaging. The weapons have little-to-no kickback and lack any sort of originality. The AI is nonexistent and possibly inferior to the PB&J sandwich I had for lunch today. The quick-time events are slow and far too crude to be entertaining. The game is so unbalanced I completed 75% of a level using melee attacks that--when performed at the right moment--seemingly render you invincible.

It would be a bit trite for me to even mention to the readers of this blog that most video games expect you to slip into the boots of their protagonist. But in Eat Lead it's just too difficult to do because the games foundation is so weak. It leaves Matt Hazzard to be possibly the most apologetic video game character ever. He consistently looks back at you winking and nudging his way through the levels in hopes that he will distract you from the real issues at hand.

No More Heroes is a similar game in that it's self-aware (but to a much more mild extent). One of the glaring differences is the protagonist--Travis Touchdown. He is self-assured, hilarious and backed by an extremely robust gameplay model. In contrast I imagine Matt Hazzard would rather crawl out from the TV, sit next to you on the couch and entertain you with his knee-slapping humor. It ultimately makes for an awkward gaming experience that eventually falls prey to the same ridiculous paradigms it sets out to mocks.

DOA, BLOD, tried different tv's/hdmi' sand nothing but a $500 paperweight. Amazon will refund me as soon as they get it back and process which will take weeks. Called sony and all they can do is repair it but at least I qualify for the extended warranty... Needless to say this is very disappointing that sony can't expedite the process or at least exchange the bad unit they sold me for a working one.... ******Edit after taking my ps4 to the sony store, they replaced it they had awesome customer service to they tried it out in the store to make sure it worked and I went on my way. Ps4 for the short time I played it is an amazing machine and is working flawlessly so far. Well worth the price.

Unlike others... My console works. I put about 14 hours on it on 1 day.

I'm using a 2011 TV ( Panasonic ) and 2011 receiver ( Onkyo ). Also using a Monster HDMI cable I bought back in 2006. My FW has been updated to 1.50 as well.

As for the console, I like it. It has promise. The OS needs a fair deal of work and features need to be brought up to PS3 levels.

The games are great on the system. So much better looking then last gen. Really excited to see future games.

Unit arrived on time and in expected condition. Checked the HDMI connector and cable for any defects and saw none. Unit powered up promptly without incident and setup also was smooth. PSN, Store, Digital Games, Disc Games, Blu-Ray and streaming all work as expected. System and game updates worked just fine. Controller had about half charge out of the box (not suprising); but, reached full charge in expected amount of time. Sadly, the wifi does not support 5ghz (only 2.4ghz); but, the connection speed is still fine (faster than my internet connection). Don't know if the 5ghz can be enabled via software at a later time (depends on chip and antenna support). In short... I'm happy with the PS4!

We had 3 different consoles shipped from Amazon to our address. All of them are setup, updated, and have been working flawlessly all day. Killzone is a beautiful looking game and I am excited for the start of the next generation. Overall I am very impressed with the quality of the system itself. The unit is smaller than I thought it would be and has a nice matte finish. It's got a very slick look to it when setup and has run quietly and cool for about 12 hours today. The controller is slightly larger and much more comfortable than the last generation. The light bar that changes color for your health or player indicator is a nice sensible addition and the touchpad is surprisingly responsive and useful. Everything feels rock solid and has an air of quality about it; it's the little things they improved across the board that really add up. I am very impressed with the purchase overall.

All of the 1 star reviews of people freaking out and returning the console are overblown. Take a breather and do a small bit of googling, I'm sure you can have yours working within a few minutes. Make sure there isn't any loose metal in the HDMI port and verify that your cables are properly seated.

I would not hesitate to buy additional consoles from amazon as their shipping and service and are always excellent.

Dead to Rights II Reviews

As I said in the title, this game tried to improve on the original, but fell flat on its face. The original had its share of annoying quirks, but ultimately, it was an awesome action-packed ass-kicking thrill-ride. The story itself, cheesy as parts were ("Hey, these blueprints will come in handy. I wonder what they're doing just sitting here."), wasn't half bad either. Jack's narrative was well scripted and well read. The game was like a GOOD B movie. Lots of action, and a story to go along that didn't make you want to throw up. Like Lethal Weapon, for instance.

The sequel (or I guess prequel) was like a CRAPY B movie.

I was severely disappointed based my expectations from the last game. And as I said, there were too many changes, and not good ones either. The only notable changes that I liked were the ability to use Shadow more, and the ability to keep explosive cannisters in your inventory. And the graphics were improved. There may be more, but I can't remember them right now. But the weapons system was a lot worse in this one. It takes 16 shots from a .45 to bring down an unarmored baddie from something like 10 feet away. I'm no kung-fu killing machine myself, but it wouldn't take me half of a gun store to bring down one guy who's standing out in the open in spitting range.

Your adrenaline runs out too fast. In this version, you can only disarm once per group of bad guys, and holding a human shield constantly uses your adrenaline, after which Jack lets the hostage go (and he doesn't even shoot them!), although the human shields seem to be invincible, and he does say some funny things when he releases them, like "not on the first date!", "oops!", or "thanks for your help." Another thing that pissed me off was that the bosses can only be injured a certain amount before they become invincible and you have to wait while they and their infinite-spawning henchmen take potshots at you until you can fight him again. What's up with that? But the thing that pissed me off the most was that whenever you get a weapon, Jack auto-switches to it. I looked hard for a way to disable this, but I couldn't find it. Small thing, right? Well, the way it works out is that you end up wasting valuable ammo in a good gun that you need to use for long range, because you auto switch to it while you're in the middle of blasting an evil-doer from close range with a crappy short-range gun. Veeeeeerrrryyy annoying. Almost as annoying as using 14 letters to spell "very".

And finally, the worst part. The story was a huge reason why I got this game in the first place, but it's worthless. The story develops poorly and there aren't really segments of it like in the first. The result is that you don't really keep pace well. Basically, it feels like he's on one single rampage that lasts for 2 days or something like that. I had trouble telling what was exactly the climax and the end. In the first one, the story and the action were harmonized and you could tell where you were going and what was happening. Not so much here. Jack's comments aren't as witty and sharp. There's a lot of laughable pointless swearing too.

In all, they messed up the way the game plays, and they added an atrocious story to it. Although it makes better sense in the end, that closure is by no means worth it. It feels like they had half the budget to work with in making this.

I don't begrudge the money I spent on this game, especially at amazon prices, but only I got it because of the first one. If you have to choose PLEASE get the first one, and don't let this one ruin your opinion of the series. If you're a die hard fan like me, then by all means, get this one. You may like it even if you aren't a fan, because of the action. So consider yourself warned: don't expect something anywhere near as good as the original.

What the hell were they thinking?? Ok i get it its a second game but its a prequel. Usually they are better in this case its not. Ok for one the controls can be a little jerky at times but that can be gotten used to. But i mean come on the game play itself is attrocious (dont know or care if I spelled that right. Thats how bad this game is.) I loved the first game so when I heard they came out with a second one I jumped at the chance at getting it... I needed to get my head examined. The story develops poorly and there isnt a good plot like the first one and it jumps seems to go so darn slow. The auto switching of the weapons SUXX!! imagine popping off a few shots at someone then grabbing another weapon and shooting that and realizing that it feels like a gnat is trying to sting them. The game was poor in concept and if you must get this just rent it. Actually dont even rent it, its not even worth that much money.

Honest reviews on Dead to Rights II

The game is not as many other titles out there. In my opinion the game was released and not finished 1st. Not much difference from part 1 and this is unacceptable due part one was a little better thn this one. Overall the current price is really worth buyin for. But $50,$20 dollars is a waste of $$ for this one.

Borderlands has so far proved to be an immensely enjoyable game delivering in many ways where Gearbox promised. I feel it will be equally appealing to fans of shooters and dungeon crawlers alike.

You start the game going through a little story intro and a bit of a bus ride. Shortly after a bit of introduction you'll be asked to select one of the characters and exit the bus to start your adventures. The game doesn't come right out and tell you these are your "classes" but for the interests of the RPG elements of the game that's what they are. Your choices are basically between stealth/special weapons, sniper, support/healing, and tank/melee. There unfortunately isn't a vast amount of customization in their looks available but you can alter a 3 color scheme for their outfit and customize your name almost immediately after stepping off the bus.

From here you do a short and sweet tutorial which throws you right in to the action relatively quickly. The controls are tight and will be very familiar to fans of popular FPS games such as Halo, Resistance, Gears, Unreal, and many others. You have the ability to jump, duck, melee, shoot, toss grenades, and eventually use a class specific special ability such as placing turrets. Aside from the general control of your character menus are easy to navigate for all of your weapons, the map is easy to read, and the HUD is simple and informative.

Following the tutorial you progress the game from doing various quests. These quests can be found on mission boards, from NPCs, and occasionally from random stuff lying around. The quests themselves so far haven't been anything particularly noteworthy in the grand scheme of RPGs. It's still a lot of "kill XYZ" "collect a fistful of whozawhatits" or "go talk to random NPC" but they have streamlined them enough to where the don't feel forced but rather serve as more of a beacon of where you should realistically be taking your character and scoring some nice exp and loot while you're at it. Quest objectives can also be tracked and objectives are clearly marked on your compass.

Outside of questing there are a decent number of monsters to kill. I still don't really have much of an idea as to what dictates when an enemy will respawn but it seems if you wander around enough you will likely run in to something to kill. It's typically not a mindless slaughter either, I would highly recommend trying fighting tactically much like you would in a shooter. Until you out-gear or out-level your opponent you will find that the game can actually be quite challenging at times and reward clever use of your equipment and abilities. The game did a great job of encouraging this too by making your enemies respond to grenades logically, implementing cover well, and of course rewarding you with devastating critical with our beloved' HEAD SHOT!

Sizable amounts of experience can also be earned through completing various challenges which are like in game achievements, some of which are actually tied to achievements/trophies. It's mostly killing various things with various weapons but early on it's a great source of experience and you can track your progress on them.

Starting at level 5 you will start to acquire skill points every level. These are used to boost various abilities of your character via a talent/skill tree. There aren't a lot of choices and you can get quite a few of them with the number of points you wind up with but most of them are fundamentally decent options allowing for some individual diversity in how you build your character without having to over-think it. Aside from that each level your character will get a generic health, defense, and attack boost.

The weapons are pretty cool but I will state that some of the "87 Gazillion" claims were perhaps a bit exaggerated. While it is true that many of the weapons can do quite a bit of unique things, the vast majority of the weapons and gear you will find are going to be slight variations of each other much like any other similar dungeon crawler such as Sacred, Titan Quest, or Diablo. Perhaps later in the game the unique generation of weapons becomes more apparent but I could so far fairly compare this to the way the weapons were in Hellgate: London. As for the size of the actual database and possible combination of weapons, I'm sure their claims are accurate but I can only comment from a practical standpoint of what I've seen. In addition to weapons you also get shields which can do various things such as regen health or do elemental bursts when depleted and grenade modifications which allow your grenades to do all kinds of things such as teleport, stick to things, and bounce.

Looting is probably one of my few mild gripes with this game. You can't simply auto-loot everything in your proximity. What the game has you doing is finding in item, hitting the loot button, and then holding it to pick up other relatively close items. It's not game breaking annoying but the range on it isn't very great and holding the loot button to pick up a weapon will auto-equip it which is something that can be frustrating at times.

The graphics will most likely be a love/hate thing for most players as they are highly stylized. I personally love them and think they're quite well done but there are certainly realism junkies out there that won't care for the cartoon approach at all. I will say that only decent videos of this game should be used to judge the graphics, still screenshots don't do this game any justice at all. Graphics aside the environments are very interesting, the characters are well done albeit a bit generic, enemies are pretty decent (Tremors anybody?), and the animations are high quality.

Multiplayer can be done with 2 player split screen couch co-op and online with up to four players I believe. I haven't gone online yet but the split screen was easy enough. Rather than scaling all of the menus down in split screen they opted to leave them full size and movable so that text wouldn't get smushed together which I thought was a pretty clever move. What this means is both players don't have to squint to read everything thing, simply centralize it in their field of view. Also as you do quests objectives/turn-ins will be shared meaning you don't spend your time waiting for everyone to catch up all the time. In multiplayer you can also duel each other which I haven't tried yet.

Vehicles haven't really been much more than a way to get around for me yet. They can be customized in color and weapon outfit but my brother and I both agreed that they weren't a very good way of killing anything aside from running them over which seemed to always been an automatic kill. For a giant vehicle mounted weapon they seem completely inferior to even the worst weapon you could collect at that relative level. The controls are very similar (identical?) to that of a Warthog in Halo. They'll probably take some getting used to for new players but they're relatively easy once you've figured them out. I personally find them to be a bit floaty and awkward but at the moment I don't see myself needing clutch control out of the vehicles for combat so they are passable.

The story regards something involving finding a long lost vault of alien technology. While I'm sure it's interesting I honestly haven't paid much attention to it aside from parts of the story which I couldn't avoid. This sort of game doesn't really bank on the story for me.

That's basically it. Quest, kill, loot, level, and become the destructive juggernaut that Pandora always needed while searching for the vault.

Pros:

Great implementation of shooter mechanics

Lots of fun loot

Good multiplayer

Straight forward and simple RPG elements

Graphics

Cons:

Graphics

Wonky loot controls

Maybe a little cliché at times

I love this game and would highly recommend it.

So I got my copy of Borderlands last night and played up to level 11. Here are my impressions one day in.

-The game is beautiful. I personally love the cartoony style of the graphics. Extremely detailed and even the barren wasteland is nice to look at. The characters while not customizable are all highly detailed as well and look great. You can change the name and colors, that's about it.

-Controls are excellent. Feels like COD4 with a few changes. Any FPS player can pick it up and play very easily. The one vehicle I've seen so far controls exactly like a warthog from halo.

-Guns, guns, guns. Only a few hours in and I've seen so many kinds of guns I can't count them. One of the best parts of the game is that you'll never know what will drop out of the next enemy. Could be that acid rocket shotgun you've been waiting for! The pure crazines of the weapons is awesome.

-Story. What story? Your looking for a vault full of alien technology. That's it so far. If your looking for deep story, this is not the game for you. Try Fallout 3. On that note, this game is nothing like Fallout. Other than the fact that both games are set in a wasteland like place in the future there is no comparison. It's more like COD4/Halo meets Diablo/Baldurs Gate.

-Co-op. Tried the co-op last night and it was the best online experiance I've ever had. I sent my friend an invite and he joined my game with his levleed up character. No lobby, no re-loading, he just appeared in my game, we played for a few hours and when he left I was back to single player. All seamless. Amazing. Can't wait to try it with four players.

-In the couple of hours I played it I was glued to the XBOX360. If I didn't have to work today I would have played all night. Now that's a sign of a good game. Well spent 60.00. I'm sure I'll more than get my monies worth on this one for a long time to come. With four characters that you'll not likely max out on the first play through this game has some legs to stand on. Enjoy.

I wish I could give this game three and a half stars but I can't. I also wish that I could climb aboard the "this game is amazing" train but I can't do that either. To be clear: this is a fun game and if you enjoy copious loot and you're FPS/RPG hybrid genre fan I'd recommend this game, even at retail price. On the other hand if you find yourself leaning more one way or the other in terms of either a solid FPS or a real PRG then there are safer bets coming down the line for your $60. It's a good game but it just didn't live up to the hype more for decisions that the design team seemed to have made than for any failing in execution.

With that said everything that Gearbox set out to do it looks like they accomplished. The game looks great, the mechanics are solid, the audio is good and the art direction is absolutely fantastic. I'm also happy to say that with the exception of some very questionable decisions regarding pop up windows in split-screen play there are no bugs or obvious quality control oversights. This game is highly polished, a treasure to look at and smooth to play. Technically speaking this is quality software. From here on out if it seems I'm ragging on this game a little hard it's because there are already a ton of 5 star reviews on here so it's easy to find emphasis on the better aspects of the game if one desires.

The problem with Borderlands is that it doesn't really do any single thing really well. It's not a solid combat FPS and the RPG elements are so insignificant they're essentially just a mildly customizable scaling system. The vehicles also appear more an afterthought than anything. There aren't enough options to really customize your character and leveling decisions are more tactical considerations than broad gameplay choices. There's just no role play in the role play. There are also exactly zero interesting or functionally interactive NPCs, the towns are simply a series of empty buildings and vending machines where you conduct business transactions. The few NPCs that do exist are immobile "come here and get you next quest" cut-outs. Borderlands is a dead world alright, just not in a good way. This is very disappointing and retro in an age of complex NPC AI and living, breathing worlds. There appears to have been a design decision along that way that "more is better". I'd generally agree but here that ends up being a "tons of guns" gimmick that only leads to you simply hauling "tons of guns" back to vending machines to sell, only looking at their price tag. The other thing this leads to is a long series of uninspired missions that are largely "go here, collect item/kill boss, return". With little or no depth to the missions they quickly start to feel less like a series of epic quests and more like a list of errands.

The FPS combat element is only adequate. Again, the feel is retro. The level deign is very dated with transition points between maps which are largely a series of canyons or other linear pathways interrupted by bizarrely unpleasant loading screens. Often at the end of the canyon is a load point which takes you into a building. Guess where that widget you have to find is? Yep, at the back the building in the big room with the boss. At least you won't get lost, there's generally only one way in or out. In the day of open, persistent outside worlds this is pretty unacceptable for a top shelf game(paging Bethesda). The enemies along the way have sufficient by undeniably rudimentary AI. The number of animations is limited and the group tactics non-existent so instead of fighting groups of enemies that work together and utilize cover and flank you instead you just fight multiple independent enemies simultaneously that strafe back and forth and advance or retreat depending on their health. It's rather uninspired and the game uses a leveling system for enemies that radically alters the game's formula for dealing and being dealt damage. This is used to prevent you from "playing ahead" by having enemies that are almost impossible to defeat without leveling. Having all your FPS skills be thrown out the window because you can only do 10 damage per shot instead of 50 and you take 50 instead of 10 because the game wants you to be a lvl 20 and you're "only" a 17 is frustrating. Die hard FPS traditionalists will also be very unhappy with the HALO like shields and the checkpoint save system. Oh, and your little robot helpers are a blatant rip off of Grrr from Invader Zim.

Still, with all my complaints this is a solid game. It's fun and can draw you in. On top of that there is more than enough unique gaming hours in it to justify a purchase instead of a rental. Bottom line: FPS fans would be better served waiting for Modern Warfare 2 and RPG and RPG hybrid fans should wait for Dragon Age but it's still a safe bet if you have time and money to burn.

Pros:

*Very polished, had no bugs. Quality coding.

*Beautiful art direction and smooth, engaging graphics.

*Simple, fun controls.

*Very large world, plenty of unique game play hours for your buck.

*Achieves "just one more quest" syndrome at times.

*Easy learning curve.

Subjective qualities and food for thought:

*Very light on RPG elements, this isn't Deus Ex or Fallout 3.

*Not a run and gun shoot 'em blood and guts ride.

*Not a lot of variety in the loot just guns/shields/mods.

*Tons of guns. More likely to be sold to a vending machine than shot at anyone though.

*Check point save system.

*Shields.

Cons:

*Irritating inventory.

*Simple AI.

*No interesting NPCs, no interactive world.

*Little true character customization.

*Vehicles end up as mere transportation.

*Dated level design.

*Unreasonable level scaling system that takes away from the FPS element.

*Boring story.

*Slow to start.

Honest reviews on Borderlands - Xbox 360

Borderlands is a perfect hybrid of Halo and Diablo. The shooting feels satisfying, the loot drops are spaced out perfectly, the world is gorgeous, and 4 player co-op works great. It's the type of game that keeps you saying to yourself "just one more quest" until it's turned into the wee hours of the morning. Good times!

Borderlands is a game most of you have heard of, if you haven't, then you're hearing of it now. It is a Role-Playing Game/First Person Shooter developed by Gearbox. With that in mind, most of you will think "Oh, it's just a Fallout 3 clone." Well don't, it's far from it. If you need a game to compare Borderlands to, it would be best to think one of Blizzard Entertainment's massively successful games: Diablo II, or World Of Warcraft.

Graphics:

If anyone has been following this game for any length of time, you know that about halfway through development that Gearbox made a dramatic change in style from a grimdark realistic look to the now, cel shaded-esque "Concept Art Style". Typically you loose a lot of detail in cel shading, but with Gearbox's method you maintain the style, while keeping tiny details like a wrinkle on cloth. The graphics are very suiting of the game, but there are hitches here and there. Water effects are nonexistent, and on-character shadows tend to be fragmented. With previous few I cannot say for certain if they are a product of the Unreal Engine or not, however, the ridiculous texture pops are. You would think that people would either find a work around or license a better engine. Oh well, I guess it can't be helped.

Audio:

The sound fits the game unbelievably well. Walking unknowingly past a skag nest, only to hear one running at you from behind is at intense at it gets. Guns sound different to the point that really fell them for what the are. Be it an assault rifle that sounds like an anti-aircraft gun or an SMG that sounds like you could kill ten people without them even noticing, it's really amazing how many different sounds they have. The background music is a bit western and use a lot of plucking in strings to give it that authentic feel. Needless to say, if you enjoyed the music of Firefly, you will feel right at home here.

Gameplay:

This is where Borderlands truly shines. The game consists of either single player, or up to four player co-op in Borderlands' nice open world. You have buggies that come in various colors and in either a rocket launcher or chain gun variant where one player drives and the other guns. Borderlands has a quest system set in place to where you find a quest giver, fulfill the requirements, and return for the reward, not too different than you standard RPG. Quests come in the "go here, kill that", "go here, find this", and "go here, find this, and kill something with it". If you have ever in your life played an instance on World Of Warcraft you know exactly what to expect from "dungeons" on here. You go into an area, fight your way through many a "peon" and several sub-bosses to make it to the final boss. And when I say sub-bosses and bosses, I mean exactly that. Be prepared to have yourself killed SEVERAL times in the process of fighting through the instance as well as burning through most of your ammo supply. Dying consistes of two stages. 1) You are knocked to the ground and can either kill someone while downed to get up, or wait for a teammate to pick you up. 2) if neither of the previous happen you will respawn at the last checkpoint marker you passed, aptly named "New-U", You'll come back with no real penalty other then a loss of money. You really feel the need to work together, and I'd say doing so is more important than Left 4 Dead. On to one of the most touted aspects of the game. Guns. As has been said, this game has guns, guns, and MORE guns. You will literally never find the the same gun twice. Even if you find a gun that has the same sight, the same barrel and same name, they will not have the same stats. The amount of variety in the game truly does match that of Diablo and World Of Warcraft.

As an obvious statement, no game is perfect. And Borderlands is no exception. You will come across bugs here and there such as getting stuck between a ramp and a rock. The only way to get free, being dying. The occasional graphic glitch during respawn, or shadow not lining up correctly. But in all honesty, you will be enjoying the game too much to care.

I can't tell you how happy I am that there is another Serious Sam game. While I appreciate the other styles of games, there is nothing as satisfying as sitting down to a run and gun shooter. Why don't more companies make these kind of games anymore? When I get home, stressed from work, playing a little Sam does the trick. Seriously, its pure adrenaline fun. Enjoy!

Honest reviews on Serious Sam 3: BFE

I've been FPS gaming since the first Doom and Heretic. It seems that now for a game to succeed, it has to push the envelope in every way. The new merging of FPS and RPG modes makes me long for the golden days of brainless fun. This game fills that void and then some. It's not really THAT brainless either. When your confronted by hoards of baddies, you need a strategy or your gonna get creamed. The graphics and background music blend perfectly. Personally, after a bad day at the office, sometimes I don't want to think too much. This game allows you to forget your bad day by just trying to survive the frenetic game play. It does get really hard at times but those are few and far between. You can't beat the price too.

Just turn down the lights, turn up the sound, and have a good time.

Just like the title says this game is fast paced run and gun, lots of ammo, lots of guns, lots of monsters, aliens whatever you want to call them. The gameplay is more like a the old-golden age of FPS in the late 90s and early 2000s (If you like modern warfare type shooters or BF3 type games this might not be your cup of tea if you liked doom, quake or duke nukem or something from the older days then it might be). You run over guns and ammo to pick them up you can manually reload now which is a new feature or you can just it let auto reload like in the old series sam games. The game had very little bugs and glitches for me either I did not notice them or they did not appear I played it solo and co-op online(twice) it worked fine(This game co-op with 16 is a blast). Also expect to die alot and just keep charging monsters like no tomorrow if you love action, gore and badly written but stupidly funny bad jokes and one liners then you wil like this game. The Graphics are good too using the new serious engine so it looks smooth.

Space Marine's campaign is quite literally the most fun I've ever had playing through a single player campaign. From what I understand, the game underwent quite a lengthy overhaul in the design phase, probably aiming to sufficiently distinguish the game play from Gears of War.

In that regard, they absolutely succeeded. A better game to compare Space Marine to would be Ninja Gaiden. While there is no "snap-cover" mechanic like in Gears of War, there *are* absolutely mind-boggling numbers of enemies throwing themselves at you pretty much all of the time. In that respect, I couldn't help but recall the frenetic against-all-odds feeling of Ninja Gaiden. In that game, you are supposed to prevail because, hey, you're a @#$ing NINJA. In Space Marine, you are supposed to prevail because, hey, you're a @#$ing SPACE MARINE.

Like Ninja Gaiden, you have a variety of close combat weapons (though not the same breadth) each with their strengths and weaknesses. However, in addition to the "hundreds versus one" in close combat, Relic has managed to incorporate the most fluid ranged combat/close combat system I have ever used. You can literally snipe an enemy on the high ground one second, and then spin around and decapitate another enemy with your bare hands, and you don't even think about the control scheme at all!

The campaign could have easily gotten repetitive, considering that your main staple weapons only gradually expand in variety, but intelligent level design consistently creates new puzzles for you to solve, by having you fight in a variety of terrain heights, against different mixes of ranged, close combat, and heavy hitting opponents. I found that on the "hard" difficulty setting, I literally needed to rely on every aspect of my arsenal to survive. That often meant anticipating a charging crowd with some well placed grenades to soften up the ranks, then using my range weapons to take down some high priority threats, and finally crashing into the wave of enemies to slash and dismember anyone who survived my opening salvos. I can't think of a more cinematic, and pulse racing game in recent memory. There are several set-pieces like action sequences out of the movies that just feel unbelievably epic, but I won't ruin them for you. All I'll say is that clearly this campaign was designed with a lot of careful planning and inspiration.

The multi-player is also worthy, and rewards strategy and practice. It copies the customizable weapon loadouts you find in the Call of Duty series, while also incorporating the different weapon classes found in Warhammer 40k (Tactical, Devastator, and Assault). As you play more and improve, you unlock more weapons and armor options, which can greatly increase your lethality. They were smart to include a feature where you can copy the loadout of the last person who killed you, however, so if you find yourself fighting someone who has hopelessly more toys to fire at you, you can level the playing field.

I've been playing Halo Reach for a whole year, and at first the Space Marine multiplayer experience was jarring to get used to, since it feels so different. After playing for a few hours, however, I had become sufficiently acclimated to the pace of Space Marine multiplayer, and it was incredibly satisfying. You will spend far more time practicing how to be effective with a broad range of tactics than you will in Reach, because the permutations and perks you can customize can really necessitate that you alter your tactics.

I have a few minor gripes as well. In multi-player, the teams are divided between Space Marine loyalists, and Chaos Marines (instead of say, Red VS Blue). You get to customize an armor set for both (sort of like how you customize both Spartans and Elites in Halo Reach), but you don't get to choose which armor set you use in a match. Personally, I'm all about playing as the Blood Angels chapter, but sometimes it feels like 4 out of 5 games I'm arbitrarily assigned to the Chaos team, which is a drag. This has no effect on game play, but it still bugs me. I can understand that if the designers let us choose, perhaps there would be too many Chaos players, or too few, but it seems like they could have at least included a "preference" option, so that wherever possible you are assigned the faction you identify best with.

I also think that some more multi-player features wouldn't hurt. Right now it's basically "king of the hill" or team deathmatch, which is fine, but we have all been spoiled by the variety of game modes in other shooters. Of course, there's no reason why these things might not be added on in future patches. I know for a fact that they are going to be adding a free multiplayer "survival" mode where you can just kill waves of orks with a friend on the same console. Hopefully they will continue to support and expand on the game, because they really made a winner!

I have to preface by saying that I am a huge Warhammer 40,000 fan, and, as such, have waited not a little impatiently through its development. I was not dissapointed. This game is beautiful, absolutely stunning. The world is epic is scale, dark, and detailed. The soundtrack is deep and suspenseful. Please don't believe those that say this game is a button mashing repeat-fest. I assure you it is not. The combat can get a bit repetitive after hours of game play. It can also be mundane if you simply wade into enemies and swing your chainsword. However, that is a crappy (and difficult) way to play the game. Using the different weapons to strategically take out important targets and tackle different situations can have devastating results on your enemy. Further, the levels are constantly changing, as are the configurations of enemy parties, and even the enemies themselves. The game is actually extremely fun.

Some have said that is plays a little like Gears of War. I would say that it "plays" very little like gears of war. This game includes much more melee and a unique health system. The game's weapons are also not really like Gears. Finally, the cover system, something absolutely integral to the Gears experience, is completely missing. That said, the game does, in many ways, "look" like Gears. Some reviewers claim that the hulking Space Marines look like Cogs, the looming stone architecture looks like Jacinto, and the Adeptus Mechanicus insignia and its focus on gears and mechanical insignia are all too familiar. How dare they copy these things from Gears of War, right? Well, wrong. For anyone that has almost any experience with the Warhammer 40K universe, playing this game is like stepping into a perfect embodiment of a fictional universe that has been around for decades. The fact is that Space Marines do wear hulking armor (or "armour" if I was to be true to the genre), the gothic architecture is key to the ships and buildings of the Imperium of Man, and the Adeptius Mechanicus is embodied by cast iron and mechanical workings. This game looks great and is true to its roots, so don't feel upset by its few but noticeable similarities to Gears of War.

Best Deals for Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine

To Start off I will say that I know there will be 200 people on here posting reviews that this is a Gears of War clone. Space Marine plays similar to Gears but with some BIG differences. Number one the Lore and History of the Warhammer 40k universe is huge and it has also been around for around 30 years so it already has a pretty sweet backstory. Secondly the whole cover system is gone which personally to me is a great edition because it seems like in all shooters you do the same thing. Step one: move into room Step two: take cover behind something Step three: kill everything Step four: go back to step one. Space marine has you hold the line until your enemies are all over you then pull out your power sword and go to work melee style. The Story seems more interesting to someone who enjoyed Dawn of War or someone who enjoys the books. If your not familiar with 40k the story will probaby be really boring and it uses terms only fans would recognize such as Astartes, Adeptus and Xenos. All in all I think this game is great, mainly because i'm a really big fan. My advice to non-fans is to go play Dawn of War 2 or read the ultra-marines books and then come back to this. The game will be a lot more fun.

Honest reviews on Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine

I got this game at the midnight premiere, and boy it is quite an experience. First thing you will notice is that it is one of the most visually captivating games you will play. The characters and enviroments have a great amount of detail that truely is game art at it's finest. The story is very interesting with a right amount of mystery, suspense, and action. The online playing is fun, with a good amount of in depth customization of your character. Online play does have a level-up system, letting you unlock stuff with every level. No matter what side you play on, he may be any color or design you would like. To be completely fair, there are some things that did dissapoint me. First off is that the story is kind of short, in the sense I beat it on normal mode in about 2 days. There is only two modes of online multiplyer which are Anialation (Team Deathmatch) and Sieze Ground (Capture The Command Posts). Those two things there are what is holding me from giving it 5 stars. Gameplay is very fun, making you have to balance between melee combat and ranged combat, and the same carrys over for online play. This is a good buy for anyone who enjoys shooters, classic fantasy lore, sci-fi space battles, or any combination of the three. I really hope they make a sequel.

What is WARHAMMER 40K? I knew next to nothing about this campaign setting going into W4K: SPACE MARINE, but now I have a bit of an idea. It's a setting in which the galaxy is in a constant state of war, where entire worlds are hollowed out to fuel a galactic war machine, and space marines fight on the same battlefield as sorcerers and orcs. (Orks, that is.) It's a setting that you get by taking a gritty, war-bound, Tolkien-esque universe and throwing it thousands of years into the future 40,000 years to be exact. I wasn't a fan of WARHAMMER 40K before SPACE MARINE, but I think I'd like to be one now.

The story of SPACE MARINE picks up nine days after the invasion of a Terran "Forge World" by a massive Ork army. They've since taken control of the planet's orbital defense cannons, effectively keeping the human fleets at bay. So it's up to Captain Titus and a group of Ultramarines (one of many groups in the Space Marine Legion) to disrupt the invasion and keep the Orks from obtaining crucial military weaponry that could turn the tide of the war. This begins only after the player character, Titus, single-handedly takes down an Ork attack ship, just so you get the idea that space marines are NOT your average soldier; they're practically walking tanks.

After that amazing opening (and it really is amazing) you progress toward your objective at the whim of circumstance and Ork counterattacks, and you get a feel for the gameplay going forward. This is where I'm going to have to stress that opinions in this regard will vary. The gameplay of SPACE MARINE feels very much like a cross between GEARS OF WAR and DYNASTY WARRIORS, in that you're either running and gunning, or hacking through waves of Orks with whichever melee weapon suits you.

Playing through SPACE MARINE is not a very deep experience. There's no cover system ("Cover is for the Weak"), no way to get the drop on your enemies or flank them, and while there is a sufficient amount of weapons, managing them can become a pain. So you're left sorta blasting or hacking your way through a thousand enemies across very linear levels. This means that unless you'd like to play through the story again, there's not that much of a reason to return to the campaign. The variety just isn't there, and neither is story mode co-op in any form.

So... why the four stars? While it's unfortunate that the gameplay doesn't bring anything new or exciting to the table, it's the story, level design, atmosphere, and fierce commitment to the WARHAMMER 40K setting that elevate SPACE MARINE well above its faults. The campaign is simply an exciting thing to play through. Whether you're bringing down an Ork attack ship, defending a squadron of Imperial Valkyries (from Orks riding rockets), or clearing your way to a factory so huge that it practically takes up one of the planet's hemispheres SPACE MARINE always found a new way to keep me engaged. Sometimes I kept on playing just to check out more of the Forge World, since each level is typically gigantic in scale with lots to see.

The multiplayer is also an added bonus, though it lacks an abundance of game modes. The game also requires a product code of some kind that comes with new copies of the game, so if you're thinking of buying the game used, you'll only be able to progress five levels in multiplayer without paying a bit more.

SPACE MARINE succeeds in delivering what it set out to do. The campaign is exhilarating and, at times, awe-inspiring, thanks to the scale and masterful level design. It's a shame that all the work that went into the design, writing, and lore didn't transfer well to the gameplay, though it works well enough to get you through to the ending. I think with a few more twists on the gameplay, a deeper focus on the story than destroying a thousand Orks, and maybe even an RPG element (since we're working with an RPG property and all), W40K: SPACE MARINE could've been a game to compete with GEARS OF WAR. But as it stands, this is a game where you can see the developers' enthusiasm for the W40K property throughout.

While a fine game in its own right, it's also a great steppingstone into the WARHAMMER 40K universe for the uninitiated. Now I have to figure out what all the fuss about this Eisenhorn fellow is about.

I am a noob when it comes to the Xbox 360. I've played in Madden tournaments and at friends places before. I was excited when it arrived so I could actually play the system for real. Not so fast. I tried to connect to Xbox Live...Status code blah blah. searched it and it ends up the System is banned from XBL Which means my purchase is pretty much useless. If I wanted to play games offline I could just play my original Xbox or just buy the games for my Wii or PS3 that are online enabled. Very frustrated.

Review of DanceDanceRevolution Bundle - Xbox 360

DanceDanceRevolution Bundle - Xbox 360

I've been playing Dance Dance Revolution Universe 1 and 2 several times a week as my workout for the last year. It took some time to work from Basic to Difficult, and I'm still working on conquering the Expert level on some of the songs on these versions. When I'd LITERALLY worn a hole in my dance pad, I came to Amazon planning to order the DDR Universe 3 bundle to get a new one along with a new set of songs (even though reviews were pretty bad). I was ecstatic to see this newer version was being released the following week and pre-ordered it with much anticipation.

I've played for 3-4 hours now over the last week, and here's my assessment:

Instruction manual: There's a book in here, but it's a waste of paper. It's about 12 pages long and is in 4 languages. If you need instructions on how to load the game and select buttons on the screen, you're covered.

Songs: The songs ARE much more mainstream overall, but I haven't found that to be a huge plus. There are a number of songs that are under 100 bpm, which just doesn't inspire me to jump around a lot. I actually enjoy the Japanese-pop-dance stuff that's found on the older versions; I wouldn't necessarily be jamming to it in the car, but I prefer it for DDR.

Difficulty: Perhaps due to the slower pop songs, the difficulty is WAY LOWER. I admit that I'm no longer a beginner, but when I can pick a song and beat it on Expert the first time through when I'm still trying to beat Expert songs on the old version, I think that says a lot. Not only are the routines easier, but the scoring is far more forgiving. This might be appreciated by a beginner, but I enjoy the challenge of working up from JUST finishing an Expert song without failing, to a C, to a B, to an A, with practice over time. The songs that I've muddled through receive B's, ones that I expect to get B's on are A's, and if you get most of the steps but miss a few, you get an AA. A full combo (no missed steps) receives an AA*. The scores seem needlessly inflated. I've received very few AA, and only a couple of AAA scores on ANY level in a year of playing DDR Universe 1&2, and have AA and AA* scores on half of these songs already.

Interface: This is only slightly modified and works much the same as the Universe versions. The dance options menu that used to be accessed by holding down the A-button while selecting a song to play is now accessible from the song selection menu by pressing Y. I thought this was handy, but the design of the menu itself is needlessly annoying (and a constant gripe for me). I prefer my arrows to run 1.5-2 times faster, which is controlled here. It's still the first item in the list, but you can't just change it and be done. You must arrow down or A-button through the other 8-10 items in the list to get to the confirm button at the bottom. If you back out, it doesn't save the change. This makes it a big hassle to move between slow songs (which I have to run at 3x now) and fast ones, since I prefer the arrows to go by at approximately the same rate and have to adjust it this way.

Display: The arrow coloring is slightly different, but the concept is the same, so I got used to it quickly. On DDR 1&2, I have the background videos turned off because they make me dizzy combined with the scrolling arrows, and the background image brightness turned down to 50% to make the arrows stand out. They've removed the option to turn off videos here, so I have to turn the brightness to 0 to make the videos disappear. I can live with this, but the completely black background gets boring pretty quickly, and I miss the colorful backdrops.

Workout Mode: This is one of my biggest gripes. I use DDR as a workout, and I assume anyone turning on this mode is doing the same. The game will show you how many calories you've burned after each song as before, but it will ONLY track total calories EVER not daily. I don't really care how many calories I've burned over the last year (or three), I want to know how many I burned TODAY. In order to track this, you'll need to check Workout Mode both before you play (taking note of the total calories) and after, and do the math. This is just plain stupid.

Training Mode: This is my other dumbfounded gripe. If you turn down the speed of the song (which is the only reason I go to training mode, and must be one of the most used features), the song doesn't play. WHAT??? I suppose running the steps to metronome clicks with no music may have some value, but not to me. Training mode is dead to me on this version.

Club Mode: This seems to be the only "story" mode, which I'm not big on anyway, but is usually the only way to unlock new content. I've only delved into this a few times, and I'm trying to be patient with it hoping it will get better. You're led through a sequence of random songs (you choose how many, 4-20). The "challenge" is that the difficulty and options change throughout the songs. This can sometimes be fun, but so far, each sequence has begun in painfully-slow Beginner difficulty, and taken a while to get up to a playable speed. Once it does, this can be fun, but because its designed to change options, you can't set any of your own by default. For me, when a slower song gets to Expert mode and the arrows are only at 1x, I can't pick out the rhythm of the steps fast enough to make them because the arrows are all on top of each other. After suffering through the Beginner and Basic levels only to fail out because the arrows are too close together is beyond frustrating. I'll probably only use this mode if I find out from other players that there is indeed unlockable content to be had.

New features:

Mid-song, you'll get a sequence of circled arrows that will give you bonus points if completed successfully (much like Guitar Hero). This was a little annoying at first because the circles usually obscure the coloring of the arrows, but I've gotten used to it as an added challenge.

My favorite new feature is the "Challenge" level which is unlocked per-song after getting an A on the Expert level (though not available on every song). This opens up "Octagon" steps for this difficulty level, which use diagonal arrows to signify the A, B, X, and Y buttons. This is great fun, and I'm enjoying the challenge of wrapping my brain and feet around 4 new places to step. It's nice to have a new physical challenge that doesn't involve making my feet move any faster, as I was reaching my limit on DDR Universe 1&2.

Overall: This is a worthwhile purchase at this price, and I'll continue to play it, but it didn't meet my expectations. I certainly didn't expect key basic features to disappear or become annoying to use. I'll add it to my DDR rotation, but I'll be rotating back to an older version sooner than I anticipated.

I've always loved the DDR series, but this game really fell short with the song selection. It was too much American pop with poor step charts and not nearly enough of the type of songs that made me and so many others fall in love with the series.

Best Deals for DanceDanceRevolution Bundle - Xbox 360

For many of my teen years, Dance Dance Revolution was practically an addiction. Yes, I was one of those guys at the arcade that people stopped and watched. However, I'm going to step back and look at this with less bias.

Story: N/A (Dance Dance Revolution has no story.)

Graphics are not very important in Dance Dance Revolution. It's just arrows moving up a screen with background images or videos.

Graphics: 3/5

Music is the meat of this game. I will note the music selection will disappoint most hardcore fans. All the included music is licensed rather than the exclusives that made the old titles great, and downloadable song packs are limited. Casual fans are more likely okay with the music selection, and many might even prefer licensed music, as they would be familiar with it.

Sound: 3/5

Gameplay is the same as any other Dance Dance Revolution. Players step on buttons on a pad below their feet corresponding to arrows on the screen. This title brings nothing new to the series, but why fix what isn't broken?

Gameplay: 4/5

Dance Dance Revolution only functions because of replayability. Whether you play it again and again depends on your interest in dance games.

Replay Value: 5/5

Whether this game is kid friendly depends on what type of music they are exposed to. Some of the music is suggestive, but it's all stuff one might hear on the radio.

This title appeals to the casual players. However, bear in mind that, if you have Kinect, there are quite a few better alternatives of casual dance games. Big fans of the series will probably be disappointed and should pass this by.

I was looking more for oldies tunes, and thought they would be in the game (although not advertised) also the dance pad is already miss firing. :(

This is going to blow your mind: not all of the songs on this Track Pack are really Metal. I know, it's kinda weird, but that does not detract from the awesomeness. There are still a lot of great songs and you can import them into the main Rock Band games, past present and future, for no additional fee. Of course, this is a game in itself and it works just like every other Track Pack. The main reason to buy this, however is the sheer oddity of the setlist. There's songs by known bands like Judas Priest and Rage Against The Machine, but then there's also songs by Hawkwind, Lacuna Coil, and other minor bands. Yeah, it's worth it!

The value in this game isn't in the Disc itself, but in the DLC Code printed on the Manual. This code, when redeemed, Downloads 20 songs (the same 20 songs that are on this disc) that can be played in Rock Band, Rock Band 2, or Rock Band 3 (also any future Rock Band titles, logically). Even at the full MSRP of $30 is a value, because each song costs $2 by itself.

****TOO LONG; DIDN'T READ VERSION:****

+ amazing visuals

+ open world/choice

+ perfectly balanced weapons and classes

+ perfectly balanced maps

+ intense online gameplay

lack of cut-scenes in single player

public voice chat is MIA, but should be added in a future update

+/reviewers knocked this game and battlefield for the campaign mode, yet it held no weight in battlefield's score, meanwhile, reviewers pretty much ignored the multiplayer portion of this game (the best part of the game).

--------------------------------------------------------------

Completely different from all of the other killzone games. The color scheme is no longer dark and gritty. It's futuristic and colorful. The missions are no longer "shoot your way from point A to point B." They're somewhat "free-roam to which objective you want to attack first." The graphics and sound are amazing. The only downfall is the cut-scenes. There are barely any, and they don't really flesh the characters out.

No more one shot kill scrubby marksman sniper rifle. The new rifle is bolt action and requires you to "zoom out" after every shot. The new turrets are actually useful. They can hold down an area easily if placed properly and are very strong. Portable spawns are back in the form of spawn beacons. The classes are perfectly balanced. Where one class has better guns (Assault), it will have weaker abilities. Where one class has weaker guns (Support), it will have stronger abilities. A good user can dominate with any class. This is the first online multiplayer that I say "is about as perfectly balanced as it gets." The online battles are close up and intense. The maps are not symmetrical, but are fair and do not give any team an advantage.

The "professional" idiot reviewers judged this game solely by the single player and paid no mind to the multiplayer. However, they said battlefield had a terrible campaign (like bf3)too, but BFs campaign held almost no weight in the scores. Don't listen to those morons. They will say the same thing about two different games, but weigh those same complaints differently in the overall score. No fanboy here, I like both games and owned multiple entries of both series. I just wanted to put this out there for the potential customers that might have be scared to pick up Shadowfall. They took a big risk, and I couldn't be happier with it.

Game is great, visuals are great, it's a nice change of pace fps from call of duty. I was a xbox guy last generation but made the switch to ps4, this game is kind of like halo, not as good, but a good substitute. Better than what it has been reviewed by the so-called experts. I haven't beaten the game but it's challenging and overall, a good time. The multiplayer is something you must try if you pick this up. Very fun!

Best Deals for Killzone: Shadow Fall (PlayStation 4)

Excellent Game! Most people think this is like all other Killzone games, its far from it. Most people dont know this game uses the same engine as Destiney.

This game is eye popping candy, with excellent surround sound. Visuals are stunning, and the game play is fantastic with controlls that most FPS gamers are familiar with.

The story is okay, with only a 24 man mulitplayer, which is the only thing that takes away from this game, however the graphics and game play will have you looking the other way.

This game really shows off what the PS4 really can do, and to get this kind of performance you would need to pay 1,600$+ for a gaming PC to get it.

I highly Recommend this!

Honest reviews on Killzone: Shadow Fall (PlayStation 4)

Summary: After the Day1 update and we were able to play some multiplayer I have to say that if you're a fan of the multiplayer of previous Killzone games, definitely get this. If you're in more for the campaing and single player thing, maybe stick with what we all know and get some of the third party games out there like Call of Duty: Ghosts PlayStation 4 or Assassin's Creed IV Black Flag Limited Edition PlayStation 4

I'm probably not the best person to review this game if you're looking for a comparison between previous games in the series and this one since I've already played a couple of hours of Killzone 3 Playstation 3, the prequel to this. I'll keep updating the review as I play more of the campaign.

Graphics 10/10: Some of the levels are incredibly big and really detailed. Character models have improved, even though they looked good on the PS3 you could still see some jagged borders, especially in facial animations. Particles and explosions look a lot better too. As a game that will probably help define the launch of a new generation of consoles, it is probably a good baseline to what we can expect this year and I can't wait for the games that come out in the following years.

EDIT: I give it 10/10 after I've seen the entire campaign. Man oh man how this game looks cool!

Sound 10/10: I feel like sound design/music get forgotten in videogames most of the time. If it's bad people will notice but if it's as good as this, people take it for granted. Before playing Killzone I thought that for FPS, one of the best sound designs I've heard was Battlefield 3 Playstation 3 or Battlefield 4 PlayStation 3 and this game's is probably up there too. If you can play this with a big surround sound system, you MUST do it (I still can't use my PS3 virtual surround sound headset)

Controls 8/10: The main complaint I've had with this series is the way they handle movement as opposed to how CoD and BF do it. Maybe I'm just used to the other ones a lot more but it takes me a while to get the feel of it. Maybe "heavier movements" would be the correct way to describe it. Sniping on this game is fantastic, just way until you do it.

Plot 7/10: (In progress). From what I've seen so far, it started setting plot lines in a good way, you can tell it's building the tension for a big ending (I hope), good voice acting helps a lot because it makes it more believable.

EDIT: What I said that it's building tension for a big ending/climax... nope... didn't happen. Just finished the campaign and besides admiring how beautiful every level is the story leaves a lot to be desired. It does not reach the level of action and excitement we've come to expect from a big AAA shooter like this

Having played Knack (PlayStation 4) (you can check out my review of that one too!) and this, I think I'm going to spend most of my time on this one for the first couple of weeks.

Next week: Need for Speed Rivals PlayStation 4

Find helpful customer reviews and review ratings for Killzone: Shadow Fall (PlayStation 4)

Heyyy, who put exploration in my Killzone? Shadow Fall is quite a departure from K2 and K3. The maps in the campaign are huge, full of nooks and pathways that lead to rooms with mundane things such as domitories, restrooms, storage houses, often with nothing much of interest to pick up in them. Thats actually a GOOD thing. Exploring a facility and finding these non-essential places greatly adds to the immersion of the game, like a Fallout or Elder Scrolls game does.

These NPCs need places to sleep, places to uh, relieve themselves, places to hang their coat and boots and the end of the day. The amount of detail really makes this game world feel lived-in. What I disliked about the past two Killzone games was that for the most part, pretty much led you down a one way path with not much else to do but kill kill kill. In Shadow Fall, there are stretches of the game where you wont encounter enemies for several minutes at a time encouraging the player to explore and do the little tasks on your mission's to-do list.

Great improvement for the series. It kinda reminds me of the first Killzone, but better. Gameplay wise, the controls are weighty, but have more snap when going to your sights. Best of all, NO AIM ASSIST. So every kill you get is really accomplished with your skill and not the game helping you lock on to the enemy like in CoD.
