First things first: in the past I have chastised EA a number of times for its release of cookie-cutter games, crippled with atrocious DRM schemes. So, in all fairness, I now have to say this: DRAGON AGE: ORIGINS IS A GAMER's DREAM! It is an excellent game and it comes FREE of any DRM madness. So, thank you EA for listening to your customers (let's only hope this new trend holds...).

This is one of those games that are easy to control, a joy to roam through and fun to play at no end.

I am a huge cRPG fan and cannot remember such a great companion/squad cRPG ever since the Baldur's Gate Saga. And to tell you the truth, this is the game I was dreaming of being able to play one day while playing BG (yeah, by now we all know that NEVERWINTER NIGHTS never delivered).

There are about a dozen gender/race/class/background choices and a great many combinations in forming your party. The armor and the weapons are exceptionally made and everything shows on your characters. And the graphics are truly beautiful! You have to see the rendering of flames to believe them.

Nevertheless, what really stands out is the gameplay. Every battle is a puzzle to be solved, pausing ever so often to reallocate enemies to the best suited party members (a feature I loved in BG!). Of course one can always turn off the autopause feature and let the AI take over the rest of your party and turn the game into an hack&slash action RPG (not exactly my cup of tea but, hey, it's still nice to know it's there).

Finally, this is a game made just like the classics in many ways, including duration. I am now playing the game for over 20 hours and I feel that I barely scraped the surface! DRAGON AGE: ORIGINS is one satisfying RPG!

My only gripe is this: I did not appreciate such short dialogue options. Most fit a single line and more often than not they consist of a couple of words. I like my RPGs to be wordy and challenging to my verbal imagination as well and I want my characters to participate in the humor, not just provoke it or react to it. Remember the long dialogue options in BG? Well, expect to find DRAGON AGE: ORIGINS much more laconic.

I guess 10 years of fast-paced FPS and blitzkrieging RTS do take their toll...

Now this is the COLLECTOR's EDITION which is almost 30% more expensive than the Standard edition. For the extra money you get: a tin case, a cloth map, a bonus DVD (soundtrack, making of documentary, concept art & wallpapers and strategy tips), an in-game quest and character as well as three enchanted items. Is it worth it? You be the judge.

The blood sprays, the swords clang and the spells explode. The animations are beautifully made and add a lot to both enjoyment and immersion. There is a verse in Homer's Iliad I love: "the warrior fell and his armor echoed around him" and I was reminded of it many a times throughout the game.

This game will stay with you. Do not miss on it.

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

Installation

For some reason it took three installs to get the program on my machine. Not sure why, I received no error message or other indication there might be a problem. So getting the game installed took nearly an hour.

Digital Rights Management

-DRM is not present in DAO. A simple CD Key and online registration to get an account with BioWare/EA and you're ready to rock.

Tech Support

Thank goodness the BioWare community is intelligent, helpful and generally proactive. Since EA purchased BioWare official tech support is passed off to EA. EA has no tech support to speak of. So imagine my frustration to find my NVIDIA GeForce 8800M GTX had issues running the game. I've got a gaming rig CPU Intel 2 X9000 2.8GHz, 6GB RAM, etc. and I could not run DAO. Big WTF. Thank goodness the BioWare Forums had the answers I sought.

Exclusive Content

The bonus items at start up are nice, having the Stone Prisoner is great (I think as DLC it retails for $15 US) But the Cloth Map is meh. The tin case is nice if you're into that kind of thing I often discard packaging in favor of my giant CD book. The features disk is interesting but if you want to play the game not see the whole shebang it may not be worth it for you. Overall I'd probably get the Collector's Edition again (it was a birthday present from me to me) but if you're on a budget or want plenty of bang for your buck its probably not worth it.

Gameplay

Graphics

Anyone that tells me the game looks outdated or poor isn't paying attention or can't witness DAO in all its glory. When I can see the pores on Morigan's face, the individual teeth on Dog (aka Rabbit) and see stray hairs on Alistair, it is amazing. Not to mention the burning, bleeding, spurting, freezing, effects from damage. Seeing an enemy break because he's been frozen is awesome. If you've got a mediocre rig a PS3 may be the way to go. I haven't seen a 360 in action so check those out but if you've got a machine that can handle the settings check the PC version is way worth it.

Cutscenes

If you've played BioWare games before you know they're big on story. If you've played Elder Scrolls, Fallout 3, Fable, Diablo, Guild Wars, LOTRO, and like the story this has more, and it is good. If you like Demon Souls this is less hack n' slash and more about the entire experience. Heavy dialogue, great and frequent cutscenes, are BioWare hallmarks. If that is not your bag you can hit ESC to skip the scenes.

I do miss the dialogue wheel from Mass Effect, I rather enjoyed hearing my character speak. Selecting dialouge options is akin to KOTOR or Baldur's Gate and at times it seems like your representative in the game is mute. This is not enough to discourage or dissuade me it is merely an annoyance.

Gameplay

Think an updated Baldur's Gate. As your avatar gets better at killin' he or she performs more stylized attacks and finishing moves reminicient of Fallout 3's VATS finishing/killing attacks. The game goes to SloMo and shows you doing X to critter Y. Navigating is easy your compass has a quest arrow when you use the feature.

One of the most interesting things are the "tactics" the more cunning your avatar or the higher the level you get more "if A then B" actions and choices making a very flexible but very effective "script" for combat. I.E. Condition: 'Self health is < 10%' Action: "Use strongest healing potion". The limitations are your ingenuity, imagination, tactical know how and your avatar's intelligence.

Downloadable Content (DLC)

I like the way the have DLC set up, it relay's what you have, what you can buy, and etc. It seems that Electronic Art's buisness model in DAO is to provide a solid and addicting product then have you purchase things to make the story more in depth. As a gamer it is annoying but I'll probably persist. As a stockholder if it would raise the share prices it seems like a good idea.

DAO Creator is awesome. I don't know what the consoles can do with regards to this option but it allows PC players unlimited creativity and ensures amazing replay value.

Overall

I am very happy with the game. If you have any doubts cast them aside, there is enough knowledge to ensure bugs are being fixed (there are few if any) and almost all technical issues I've seen posted on the BioWare forums are resolved.

This is an extremely enjoyable game with a new twist on old genres and the story creates a world that I certainly hope persists in BioWare's repitoire.

Have fun, enjoy.

*UPDATE*

Content

The rating of M is well earned. Gore is aplenty with decapitation and similar fantasy violence. Those concerned about the romance plots should know that you can engage in sexual relationships. The scenes depicting these are similar you would see to day time television, no genetalia or reproductive organs. There is also prostitution though once again no nudity.

Best Deals for Dragon Age: Origins Collector's Edition - PC

To long time classic CRPG fans, Dragon Age: Origins (DAO) is a nostalgic trip back to the bygone era of CRPG Renaissance amist the blight of dark forces joined with many (certainly not all of them) of generic FPSs that gives you measley 4-7 hours on single player campaign and hybrid RPGs that blur the true quality of classic CRPG. While Bioware has released many games that all found financial success and critical acclaims, Bioware's track record since Black Isle's demise hasn't always been impressive among classic CRPG fans.

Bethesda has successfully reinvigorated non-linear, open-ended, free-formed, real-time CRPG of 'TES: Arena' and 'TES: Daggerfall' with 'Oblivion' and 'Fallout 3'. Now Bioware has done the same to narratively-focused, linear, story-driven, party-based tactical CRPG of 'Baldur's Gate' series with DAO. Both are in lineage of classic 'Dungeons and Dragons', 'Tolkien', 'Ultima' series and 'Wizardry' series. But each camp go for totally different experience.

Now for the fans of classic CRPG fans can finally find great solace in the latest medieval fantasy epic called 'Dragon Age: Origins'. This game really picks up the torch from the late Black Isle and its own 'Baldur's Gate' in terms of gameplay, design, lore, and character development and carries on the impossible task of putting CRPG back on the track. It generally succeeds with DAO but it will surely polarize many others too.

Those who began to acquire the taste of RPG through games like 'KOTOR', 'Jade Empire', and 'Mass Effect' must be warned though. DAO is not quite like aforementioned Bioware's titles. DAO is a classic, hard-core PC-centric western CRPG firmly rooted in D&D (Dungeons & Dragons) compared to the past three Bioware titles, which were hybrid western / console RPG geared toward more accessible and broader appeal that could be viewed as shallow to hard-core CRPG gamers. But there are definitely similarities among these titles too.

Those who began to acquire the taste of RPG through games like 'Oblivion' and 'Fallout 3' must be warned also. DAO is not a non-linear, open-ended, free-formed CRPG. You don't do anything anytime anywhere you please, and interaction with items and environment is non-existent. While you are given a fair amount of freedom once you pass the initial origin part and first big prelude, DAO is a linear game where main focus is on narrative focus via plot, dialogues, character dynamics, and of course tactical combat. DAO is the polar opposite to TES series. You don't have such freedom in DAO, but intensely plot-driven, character-driven game just not feasible in TES series. You don't get the visceral, in-your-face hack n' slash here. Combat focuses on character management during each wave of enemies. The action is governed by number-crunching Bioware's own original ruleset, similar to D&D ruleset. DAO gives you much broader scopes of battles with waves of mobs thrown at you alongside your companions, so it's totally different kind of pulse-pounding combat. But I personally love both styles.

And finally this is not a click-fest hack n' slash 'Diablo' clone or various MMORPG either. So if you are looking to get some fix for action RPG, 'Diablo 3' and WOW expansion are on the horizon. You won't get far in this game by just clicking your mouse pointer on your foes.

To some people, it might feel oddly enough it seems Bioware might have taken a step back, Bioware actually has taken a step forward from the games from the golden age of CRPG such as 'Baldur's Gate' series, 'Planescape: Torment' and 'Icewind Dale' series. And those of you who were big fans of 'Baldur's Gate' then were somewhat disappointed with 'Neverwinter Nights', you will be thrilled to finally have the heir to a decade-long empty throne since 'Baldur's Gate' in 'Dragon Age: Origins'.

You get to choose your sex, race, class and background to determine your origin among six different origins. Then you play totally unique origin story / tutorial for a couple of hours. Once you familiarize yourself with control, menu, etc, it leads you to big intro part where you wet your feet with couple of side quests and combat. A good 3-4 hours will be spent to this point. Then you see some exciting cutscenes and you are into the thick of epic battle and more exciting and revealing cutscenes. You get to play a part of the battle. And off you go finally to your main quest after the longest prelude of the video game history. And from hereafter things opens up and give you some freedom.

It still has loading screen between areas like all other Bioware games although it now feels less confined and limited in each area dut to the game's bigger scope created by newly created and much refined 'Eclipse Engine'. I just wish there's an open overworld map where you can actually traverse and level up fighting foes like classic Final Fantasy style instead of clicking on the world map and occassionally running into random combat area.

In terms of graphic, even on high-end PC, things are somewhat bland, blocky and jaggy. While the game doesn't look terrible and CRPG has never been the front-runner graphically, graphic in this game definitely looks dated even by the CRPG standards. By comparison to games like 'Oblivion', 'Fallout 3', and Bioware's own 'Mass Effect', graphic in DAO might even come as a shock. It generally looks more than fine on PC; just don't expect top-notch graphic.

Beside the confined world map, modular nature of the map with loading screen and not quite top-notch graphics, everything else is delivered with depth and grandeur. All the dialogues are voice-acted, except your player character, and there are tons and tons of dialogues in tradition of all previous Bioware's games. The gameworld is littered with lores. Weapons, armours, items, magic, skills, map, quest log, codex, character development / customization, party management and combat tactics are very well handled in robust menu design. DAO is the most PC-centric game since 2002 with 'Morrowind' and 'Neverwinter Nights'. You can handle the combat with either micro-management in 'Baldur's Gate' style using pause function and action queue or more fast-paced with programmable tactics slots for your companions. And the combat mechanics is similar with 'Baldur's Gate'. You have full 3D camera so you can zoom in and out on the fly with mouse wheel and pause with space key. While you have new tactics system, user-programmable command slots that control each and every member of your player characters, thers's only one action queue per character. While tactics slots do generally fine job, multiple action queues are desired.

What seperates DAO from other CRPG is character interaction and dynamic. The world is no longer black and white. Bioware abandons good vs. evil dynamic over much more ambiguity and complex shades of grey. The tone of the game is much darker and bleak. This in turn makes story truly dynamic unlike other Bioware games in the past that only give you the illusion of choice. Besides 6 different origin stories, you now have multiple endings and various permutations depending on your actions. The only thing set in the stone in DAO is the main plot; you are the protagonist who eventually leads the army against the force of evil. How you start, who you start with, who you side with, who you abandon, who you clash with, how you get to the finale, you and your companions' fate are all up in the air.

The story arc is massive, expansive and immensely complex with many different possible outcomes from branching storyline directly stemmed from your choices. It's also very heavy and mature thematically. At the end of my first 70 hour run-through as a human noble, I really felt as if I was truly ladden with the fate of the world as well as people around me. Political intrigues and personal agendas are everywhere. Choices you have to make are genuinely difficult and whatever the consequences you face are irreversible. Each and every single wave of combat feels difficult and exhausted. One wrong move and your party is wiped out. It really felt like a load of heavy burden often too much to bear. This is where DAO truly excels and shines. Not only DAO made me feel like I was actually integral and the most important part of the game, I wanted to embark on a brand new, totally different journey immediately after completing a long, winded and tiresome journey (in a very good way).

'Eclipse Engine' is much better and more powerful than ill-equipped tile-based 'Aurora Engine' and rightful 3D successor of 2D 'Infinity Engine' but still restrictive and modular in nature. I hope Bioware refine the engine in the future to open things up little bit more. It's down right annoying when you get stuck by a tiny pebble on the ground or simple nook and cranny. Loading between each area, both interior and exterior, is still present but each area being much bigger and more detail than ones created by 'Aurora Engine', along with much tighter camera controll, it alleviates a lot of problems. Furthermore, thanks to free 'DAO Toolset', we can expect tons of quality mods from a very active modding community that will probably surpass that of 'Neverwinter Nights' and possibly equal to 'The Elder Scrolls' community. There are already a few official DLCs available for purchase and several mods from 'Dragon Age Nexus', the same site that also host for both 'The Elder Scrolls' and 'Fallout 3'. I guarantee we can expect some terrific mods in the future from the site.

While I had not run into any technical glitches at all throughout my 70 campaign, there's memory leak problems, which cause the game's loading time gets longer and longer during each single continuous session. It's solved by occassionally restart the game but there's some serious loading time problem due to poor memory management.

This game runs surprisingly well on my now ancient P4 HT 3.0Ghz with 2GB RAM and nvidia 7800GS with everything max except AA and resolution, as well as my brand new Intel Core i7 with 6GB RAM and nvidia GTX 295 with everything max.

As for CE package, I solely got this edition because the regular edition comes with really flimsy plastic case, which is a new cheap trend among DVD movies and PC games to save cost. And I am happy they don't stack 2 discs on top of each other with seperate disc divider. As for contents, the cloth map is nothing like the one that came with 'Neverwinter Nights Limited Collector's Edition'. It's very cheap and useless. Extra disc contains about 60 minutes worth of making-of documentaries and promo materials as well as 18 music from the game. It also comes with a few free official DLCs, which are way way over-priced if you decide to purchase seperately.

While I am definitely not happy about the current business trend in the video game industry with DLCs over expansion pack, cheap package with weak manual, over-emphasis on online features, I commend EA for letting Bioware realize its vision with minimum artistic interference and toning down the DRM scheme from the draconian secuROM that forces Internet connection and limited number of installation to much linient version of simple secuROM DVD check. It's definitely step-up from 'Spore' and 'Mass Effect'.

Although it's little too early to tell whether DAO will eclipse 'Baldur's Gate 2: Shadows of Amn', DAO is definetely the best game from Bioware since the legendary game on the other side of TES series. DAO is without a doubt one for the age; crowning achievement among the very best of CRPG indeed.

'Morrowind', 'Oblivion', 'Fallout 3', 'Gothic Trilogy', 'Risen', 'The Witcher', 'Two Worlds', and now 'Dragon Age: Origins' closes this decade on a very exciting note for CRPG and joins the handful of elite 3D CRPG collection from this decade that rivals the golden era of 2D CRPG of 'Baldur's Gate' series, 'Icewind Dale' series, 'Planescape: Torment', 'Fallout', 'Fallout 2', 'Divine Divinity', 'Sacred', and 'Arcanum'. DAO will delight CRPG fans for a long long time.

Honest reviews on Dragon Age: Origins Collector's Edition - PC

If you love the Epic Fantasy, Dungeons, Castles, and Knights genre of video games this is a great addition to the realm. These games used to be a bit more popular and they don't come out now as often as they used to . The gaming industry is very heavy in a lot of different genres and the military game is very popular right now. Anyway, I am glad this game came out. Some other great games in this genre are The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion: Game of the Year Edition. Gothic 3 Collector's Editionand Dungeon Siege.

About the game

This is a very complex game. It took BioWare five years to develop this game and it shows. There is an awful lot of stuff in it. And most of this stuff is what is expected. There is plenty of battling and plenty of world to explore. And it is a party oriented game so if you have played Dungeon Siege or World of Warcraft you are very familiar with the style of game play. As you adventure through and explore the world you pick up party members that will fight with you. And you have to put together a complimentary set of members. You need a balance. If you are a warrior you are going to need a mage for healing and a rogue for lockpicking etc. It's a nice way to explore a lot of different roles in the game.

Where this game gets different

There are some very interesting things about this game that set it apart from other games in the genre. First off, there are a lot of moral and ethical choices that you have to make during the game. Will you steal from others? Will you make sacrifices for the greater good? And these choices affect what happens in the game. For example: Will you kill the evil king who has been wreaking havoc? If you do then his daughter will not marry you. This ruins your chances to become the new king if that's what you seek. Or how about this: When battling the evil bloodmage you have the choice of making a deal with him. Will you spare his life in order to get a permanant boost to your constitution stat? If you do this then some of your party members will disapprove. Bad Karma! And it has an effect on the game. Party members will get upset with you and leave the party permanently!

Not for kids

This game is definitely not for kids. There is quite a bit of very realistic bloodshed and you have killing blows that will actually decapitate your foes. And, there are lots of cut scenes after battles where you and your party members are spattered with very realistic looking blood. And....You can actually woo and seduce other members of your party through gift-giving, conversations, and good karma actions. It is an interesting concept and if your seductions, which take time to develop, are successful you will be rewarded with an animated cut scene of the actuall nuptials (PG rated).

Some of the minuses of the game

I got the collectors edition with all the extras which include a special character, some special armor, and another realm with quests to explore. But the game doesn't come with a storage chest! Yikes, no place for your party to store all their stuff? Wow, all you can do is carry a limited number of things in your backpack and when it gets full you have to sell the stuff to vendors.

Well, seeing as this game is very quest oriented (There are hundreds of quests) you never know what stuff you are going to need to complete a quest. And, I love to accumulate all kinds of armor, weapons, gems and things. It is a fun part of the game for me. So this is definitely a minus for me. But they do offer a solution. You can buy and download the add-on quest that gives you a whole new area to explore and a party chest to store your goods. This downloadable costs seven dollars but is worth it for the chest and the extra game play. And it's a seamless download. You can get it through the game screen which means no worries about extracting files. You pay for it and click it and the game does the rest. In a few minutes the new game area shows up on your world map.

Crafting is a bit weak Crafting is a big part of many online games and other epic fantasy rpg's. In this game you can do some crafting like make potions and traps but this is definitely weak in the game. There are not a whole lot of options for this and materials tend to be scarce. I really like the crafting aspects of games and usually do a lot of it but there is not a whole lot of it in this game. Definitely a minus for me.

Political intrigue

I am not really sure if this is a negative but in the games I play and the epic fantasy books I read I tend to not be too interested in all the political intrigue. You know, this is where the various houses, lords, and barons are all struggling for power. In this game there is a lot of this and the decisions you make during game play have an effect. As you are trying to conquer the blight that is set upon the land you have to drum up support from the various houses and factions. The moral and ethical decisions you make do matter. And the quests you complete are a factor too.

Extra stuff

There is some real fun stuff about this game. The developers really took a good look at combat and there are lots of great sword and weapon moves that your character makes and there are some great mini animations. Sometimes when you fell a large creature like an ogre your character will actually jump right up on its face and issue the killing blow. The combat is pretty good!

Mechanics of the software

I have a fast computer with Windows Vista and everything has gone smoothly for me. The installation was smooth and game play is smooth, no crashes and no errors.

So, should you buy it?

This genre used to be the norm for video games but these kinds of games don't come out too often anymore. So if you like the genre then you definitely should get it. You won't be disappointed. It delivers what it promises.

This collectors version comes with a cloth map, lots of extra materials, a bonus character and more quests. But it doesn't come with the party chest for storing goods so if you want this you are going to have to spend another 7 dollars for the download -which is worth it.

And, because the game is so very complex I highly recommend you buy yourself a game guide. I bought this one: Dragon Age: Origins: Prima Official Game Guide (Prima Official Game Guides) It is absolutely necessary if you want to find all the secrets and make your way successfully through the complexity of the game.

It is what is expected from the genre; You are set in a medieval world and expected to save it from the forces of evil. Along the way you get lots of political intrigue, battles with monsters and lots of opportunities for adventure.

Deluxe edition stuff at the very end.

If you don't want to read my retarded ode to Bioware, please skip ahead to where it says, "Actual Review!".

Ah, Bioware. You're like an old girlfriend. The one who defined love for me (1). Then you hurt me (2). I still loved you, but I didn't understand; why did you have to do that?

You went your way and I went mine. Eventually I learned to forget. I met new people; sometimes I'd fall in love, but it was never quite the same (3).

We'd see each other every couple years, and we'd have a lot of fun for a night or two (4). But other times I thought to myself, "What are you doing with your life? We could be happy together! Why are you doing this? (5). After these ultimately disappointing hookups I'd always dig up our old photos and go through them (6). I'm not ashamed to say I cried a little.

You always told me you were searching for something. Learning who you were, and how to be.

Then, one day in early November, you called me. You said, "I know now; I know who I am. I know where I belong: with you." And then you came back home to me.

Then it all became so clear; you HAD been learning. It was the old you, but a new version! Everything past was prologue to this; the version of you I always knew was there. I just needed to have faith, and you'd see it too, and we could get back what we had, what we'd always known was us.

I love you Bioware. I realize now I've always loved you. Thank you for being in my life.

Answer Key!

1. Baldur's Gate I and II, the infinity engine that led to Icewind Dale, Fallout, and Planescape

2. Neverwinter Nights

3. The Elder Scrolls, Neverwinter Nights 2, FFX, FFXII

4. KOTOR, Mass Effect

5. Jade Empire, Sonic RPG

6. all those replays of BGII

ACTUAL REVIEW!

This is the best cRPG experience I've had in ten years. It becomes very clear within the first few minutes of your Origin story that you're experiencing gaming history. Not the revolutionary, innovative, awesome new mechanic kind of gaming history. This is analogous to a new album from your favorite artist that's been doing experimental side-projects for the last few years, and now comes out with a solid, deep, meaningful effort in a well-established form.

All the old ingredients are here: rich, meaningful character relationships; deep, tactically challenging combat; well written, thought-provoking dialogue trees. In short, everything you knew Bioware was capable of, but hasn't been fully present in any of their games since BGII.

Don't get me wrong; I've liked almost all of their games since then (Jade Empire and the Sonic RPG being the exceptions). It's just that none have fully satisfied me, or they've left me with the nagging feeling that something's just not quite right (re: KOTOR and Mass Effect feel slightly underdone).

This game is an instant classic, from a master of the genre. It's the kind of game that will be added to the roster of eminently replayable games (BGII, Fallout 1+2, Morrowind, Final Fantasy [pick your favorite], etc.). It's as good as or better than all of those.

Now, those of you that have NOT played Baldur's Gate, Fallout, Icewind Dale, NWN2, beware.

As evidenced by the very few negative reviews, the ad campaign for this game is not very representative of the content. This is a true western RPG, especially if you're getting it on the PC. Combat is challenging on every difficulty mode but easy.

IT IS BY NO MEANS a hack-and-slash or action RPG!!!

I still recommend it, but be prepared to open your mind to a new experience.

For those of you trying to decide on which version to get, here are some things:

If you played and loved Baldur's Gate, and got it because you bought into the "spiritual successor to Baldur's Gate" thing, get it for the PC, no question.

On the console, the camera is locked in behind the character in the style of Knights of the Old Republic or Mass Effect. This is fine for those who fell in love with Bioware since their console years began, but not if you want to play it for full tactical enjoyment.

Also, if you have a capable PC, the graphics are far superior to the consoles, which is often the case.

360 vs. PS3?

PS3 looks better, 360 moves smoother. 6 of 1.

Don't hesitate. Buy this game.

Learn it,

Live it,

Love it:

Bioware is Back.

P.S. For those of you getting the Deluxe Edition, the added content is completely worth it. You don't have to feel cheated; they did it right. Worth every last penny.

I got this to help make life simpler for my home theater. I don't have DVI or HDMI so that was not an issue. This box has 5 component inputs (which also have S and composite). In addition it has optical inputs for the first 3 inputs and coaxial for all 5. Now with my Comcast, DVD. Xbox, PS2 and Gamecube, switching the TV and audio receiver is a snap. One input on the TV and one auto switching input on my receiver is all I need. The remote is small (but not as small as the first version of this box). The signals are clean coming out of the box and my wife is happy that she does not need a cheat sheet to work the TV!

The box is nice looking (I got black). The only (very) small drawback is that all the optical jacks are a too little close so one of my older cables had a big plastic (cosmetic) housing on it and it did not play nice with the other connectors. I replaced it and I was all good.

This is a great box!

It has loads of connections. No HDMI, DVI or VGA but it does have a IR remote for switching inputs. Logitech supports the device on it's harmony RF remote. You won't be disappointed if you do your homework on the device first.

Honest reviews on Pro System Selector Black 2.0

This product is great if you have too many devices and not enough inputs on your television. It functions extremely well as a multi system selection device with no detectable distortion to sound and picture quality. If you don't have the money to go all out and purchase the top of the line this product definitely gives you your money's worth. For other gamers out there like me, this is an absolute must for quick and effortless transition between any and all gaming systems you may have. Eternal Darkness: Sanity's Requiem Review

Eternal Darkness: Sanity's Requiem

There have been quite a few attempts at video games based upon Lovecraft's Cthulhu mythos, but they never seem to make it to the market. Although Eternal Darkness is set within its own little universe, it borrows heavily from the mythos, and Lovecraft's influence is readily apparent.

The game begins when your character, Alexandra Roivas, decides to investigate the mysterious circumstances surrounding her grandfather's death at their ancestral mansion. Through an absolutely brilliant plot device, the player is able to take control of many of Alex's ancestors from ages past and several other characters from all over the world. Each of these chapters help the player piece together the mystery and reveal the hidden agenda of a group of extremely powerful and malevolent entities.

Gameplay is very smooth. Holding down one controller button allows you to lock on an enemy target, and with a flick of the control stick you can aim at specific body parts. Some baddies fall when they are decapitated, some you have to take apart limb by limb before they will fall. As with most third person games, camera angles are fixed and sometimes problematic, as you may find yourself being disembowled by some horror just off screen.

Combat is relatively well balanced, and the puzzles in the game find a way to be interesting without being terribly difficult. the graphics are quite good, many monsters can be on the screen without any noticeable slowdown. The monsters themselves are quite detailed and look great, but they don't vary a whole lot towards the earlier part of the game.

The magic system is very cool. You must find runes of power hidden throughout the game (often inside of monsters). Each rune corresponds to an alignment, an effect, and a target. By mixing and matching the runes, you can create many different spells. There's also a large variety of mundane weaponry to collect and to toss a beating with.

Each of the characters you control seem to have their own strengths and weaknesses. Some are excellent melee fighters, some excel at throwing spells. Some have a ton of health, while others are quite fragile.

By far the coolest aspect of the game (and the part that perhaps owes more than a little to Chaosim's Call of Cthulhu roleplaying game) is the sanity system. Everytime you undergo something hideously supernatural, you lose a little bit of your mind as you struggle to grasp the situation. This manifests as hallucinations, both visual and audial. You may get an unexpected phone call, or have a horrible vision of your own demise. This effect is truly very creepy. I've already had statues come to life and watch me cross an empty hallway. I've seen walls bleed, and bugs crawl across my television screen. There are several ways to regain your sanity, but sometimes it's just fun letting it fall a little bit to see how creepy things can really get.

Resident Evil may have been an inspiration for Eternal Darkness, but it is a poor comparison. This game is truly a wonder to experience, and definitely a killer title for the GC. It's worth every penny.

The opinions I've read below on this game seem to be about 80% who absolutely love it and 20% who hate it, and as far as I can tell the people who hate it are either young children who can't appreciate anything other than a hack-n-slash gorefest, folks who prefer shallow, poorly constructed games such as Resident Evil, or worst of all, people who only played it for five minutes or not at all. I fall in with those who love it.

Eternal Darkness didn't get the promotion or the acclaim it deserved when it came out, but don't let that fool you. It's still one of the best games on any of the current generation of consoles, hands down.

This game is all about mood. Play it at night with all the lights out. Everything from the lighting to the ambient sounds is designed to establish a creepy feeling, and it really hits home in several key parts, especially when your sanity meter is running low.

Ah, the sanity meter. Yes, it's every bit as crazy as you've read. One reviewer wrote that there are only 10 different insanity effects. He most likely avoided going insane most of the way through the game, because the truth is there are around 100 different effects, ranging from minor things you'll barely notice to "What the...?" I won't spoil them for you, as they're one of the best parts of the game.

It's got a compelling storyline and a mythos based on the works of H.P. Lovecraft. You control 13 different playable characters who all exist at different points in history. Although there are really only 4 different stages, each of which is repeated a few times by different characters, the stages do change from one visit to the next, sometimes making them very different places from last time you saw them.

The gameplay itself involves navigating through the stages with one of the characters, encountering several types of creatures, and solving puzzles. The combat system gives each character several different weapons, including close-range, long-range and projectile combat. You can target different areas on a creature's body, some more effective than others. There is also a highly satisfying magic-casting system where you combine sets of runes to make new spells.

You may notice in other reviews that some claim the game is way too easy, while others say it's too hard. Some also said the game is too short. What happens is, at the beginning of the game there are three different branches you can take in the story, and these dictate the difficulty of your quest as well as the creatures you encounter, including a completely different mid-game boss creature in each branch. However, once you complete the game once, you can go back and start again with one of the other possible stories, and when you complete all three you are treated to a special ending.

If you're looking for a quick fix shoot-em-up scare-me bloodfest, don't bother. If you're looking for a disturbing and riveting game that will stay with you long after you turn off your GameCube, don't let this one pass you by!

i chose to get a gamecube rather than one of the other systems because of this game (and mario sunshine). having now played eternal darkness makes me realize i made the right decision. the graphics are excellent, the sound amazing and the story totally involving. it's the little details that make the difference; when you're walking on hardwood then walk on carpet the sound of your steps changes accordingly.

the best part is the gameplay. the menus are intuitive and moving around is not a chore like it is with resident evil. i was able to put it in and start playing without wading through a manual to learn the basics.

it starts out slowly; i was concerned that it would be too easy and uninteresting. by the time you have completed the first couple of tasks with the first few characters the gameplay becomes a lot more involving and difficult.

the sanity meter makes the game. when you face certain zombies they lower your sanity level; you can regain some of it back by killing thembut not all. once you're near the end of your sanity blood will start dripping on the floor, the camera angle will be tilted and the background effects become more spooky. the rest of the insanity effects i'll leave for you to experience first hand. you start to doubt your gameplay and, oddly, just after finishing up for the night i expected the same in real lifeit's that surreal.

there are minor things one could take issue with, but then show me a game that is perfect. i can't recommend this game highly enough. there is a perfect balance between logic, exploring and fighting. this is all coming from someone who is not usually a fan of these types of games; i generally enjoy games like ssx tricky, super monkey ball and tony hawk 3.

Honest reviews on Eternal Darkness: Sanity's Requiem

Well to be fair this is also the only psychological horror action-adventure game on any platform that I know of.

This unique game has an amazing atmosphere and really great soundtrack. The graphics are also really good.

You play the game as the grand-daughter of some guy that just died and so you visit her mansion. While you are there you start finding chapters of this ancient book and for each chapter you find you get to play as the character the chapter is about. The first chapter is a guy from ancient roman times so your gameplay is a legionaire with a sword... during your play of the first chapter you make choice that effects the rest of the games story so you can play the game three times with the three choices available to you at the end of the first chapter. If you play all three story lines then you get the full ending...

First play through took me about 20 hours. Second and Third time took me more like 10-12 hours each cause the puzzles are pretty challenging the first time through.

I think there is something like 12 or so chapters and in each one you play a different character. Everything from legionaire to priests to reporters to fire-men. Male and female characters both. In between chapters you have to spend time with the lead character in the mansion finding the next chapter.

The story of the game makes it well worth playing through three times. It is a classic and it deserves the good reputation it has.

This is the first survival-horror game that I've ever played. I never really got into the genre, but this game always intrigued me. I read about it when it first came out, and the game's new feature of the sanity meter sounded really cool. One of my friends (who is now my roommate) has the game, so I finally tried it, and was blown away.

Right from the beginning, things start off creepy, and they only get worse (which, for players, means better). You start out as Alex Roivas, a young woman in her 20's whose grandfather was recently murdered. The police are stumped, because there doesn't appear to be any sign of a break-in, nor does it look like Grandpa Edward Roivas put up much of a fight. This would normally lead to a ruling of suicide, but the state in which they found the body makes suicide an impossibility. Alex decides to investigate herself, and you navigate her grandfather's mansion. Everything in it references the dark and macabre, from paintings of murderers to books in the library about some of the darkest periods in history (the Inquisition, the Salem witch burnings). Eventually, Alex discovers a book called the Tome of Eternal Darkness. When she reads it, she is transported to another time, place, and body. Whenever players "read" a new chapter of the book, they take over as another character in another historical period. A Roman centurion, a young Cambodian girl, a British photographer, and a few of the Roivas ancestors are just a few of the people that you'll control throughout the ages.

As the story unfolds (which depends on a choice you make as the centurion), you learn about the Ancients, three god-like beings fighting for control of the world, and if one is summoned, will reign destruction upon the galaxy.

Not only is the story engaging, the gameplay is great. The weapons and magic system are great. I love the fact that you can design your own spells before you are actually "supposed" to learn them. This game has some really cool weapons, like the elephant gun, the broadsword, the double-barreled shotgun, and the fireman's axe, which is great for chopping off heads. Due to a unique and great aiming system, you can aim at specific body parts, being able to chop off heads or arms.

The other aspect of gameplay is the sanity meter. Sanity is a running theme throughout the game. As your sanity decreases, weird things start to happen, and not just to your character in the game. Many of the effects are directed at the player, and even if you know what might happen (like me), many of them will still catch you off guard. And while some effects do effect the characters (many of them foreshadow future events that will happen to them), they do rattle the cages of the players as well. This game has an insanity effect that targets Alex, and it is the only thing in a video game that has EVER made me jump is shock and even horror.

I guess the one thing that I would change is the whole "choose your path" thing at the beginning of the game. You have three paths to choose from, but they are, for all intents and purposes, the same. The only thing that changes between path to path is the Ancient that Pious summons, which does have a few effects. The color of that ancient will play an important role througout the game, but besides that, the missions are all exactly the same. In order to get the full ending, you have to play the game 3 times through (one with each Ancient), but it would be more of an incentive if each Ancient had a different path to play. Oh well, it's a small grievance.

Overall, this is one of the most interesting, creepy, and all-around fun games in a while. It may be too intense for some people, but I urge you to give it a try.

***UPDATE*** I went to Toys'r'us over Easter weekend and there were about a dozen of these for MSRP of 9.99USD, and when I went to a different Toys'r'Us on April 9th 2012 there were more than twenty of these exclusive toys on display. Now that they are apparently in stock I wouldn't recommend paying more than MSRP for them. The original review continues below, unchanged.

I haven't seen any of the legendary figures in Toys 'r' Us since Christmas, and I've never seen this guy in there at all. Trigger Happy is one of our favorites, so when I saw the legendary version for about $20 I decided to get him. His starting stats are better than regular Trigger Happy's starting stats, and he shows up in the game with the same color palette as his figure. I know the other exclusive figures (Whirlwind, Drill Seargent, etc.) are now available everywhere that sells the figures, but I think in order to keep these legendary figures exclusive to Toys 'r' Us only a limited run of them was made. I couldn't find any information on the game company's website about this though.

When I purchased this item it came with Prime shipping and came new in the package. All new figures are packaged with a collectable card, a collectable sticker card, and a webcode card for the browser based game.

This product by itself is not a game, it is an accessory for the Skylanders Spyro's Adventure Starter Pack. The video game is available on PS3, Xbox 360, Wii, 3DS and PC. The 3DS game is a different game than the console/PC game.

Honest reviews on Skylanders Spyro's Adventure Character Pack Legendary Trigger Happy

Ok, Before i start, I must say that i am a big time Spyro Fan, and as a Result, i got myself into the Skylanders craze, which at its core, is nothing but a corperate scheme to make a game the should only cost $60 at retail cost more then $200+ dolors by selling some of its pieces individually.

I hunted down almost every skylander that isent rediculusly rare, and as a result, i got through the game just fine. But out of curiosity, i saved some cash to try the the legendarey version of trigger happy out. NOW if you think you should buy this lengendarey piece because he is stronger with diffrent abilitys well think again. He Has the exact same abilitys as the normal Trigger Happy that Comes with the Game. Yes he is stronger then the normal one, But i found it cheaper to spend some time grinding up the powers of the normal one powers up so use in the game.

Bottom line is, your better off buying the 33 other Skylanders that should of been in the game in the first place. Buying this is just a waste of money.

Yes, this does work on North American Xbox 360.

I'm so glad that Cave decided to re-package and print these, because before this came out, it used to cost $120+ on Amazon / eBay. Now you can get the exact same game, except for slightly crappier box art but hey, you just saved enough money to buy another CAVE shmup.

Skylanders Giants Single Character Pack Core Series 2 Pop Fizz Review

Skylanders Giants Single Character Pack Core Series 2 Pop Fizz
Customer Ratings: 4.5 stars

Pop Fizz is a magic Skylander that only works on Skylander's Giants. His primary attack is throwing beakers of soda. His secondary attack is drinking the soda and becoming a monster. As a monster he can use 'slash' attack, which is powerful, but which only lasts for a few seconds. Overall, Pop Fizz is good for close combat and for sharp shooting.

My son recommends him as a good additional character to add to the team, but not as a first draft pick. He suggests you buy Drobot first because of his laser eyes and their usefulness.

Pop Fizz, an alchemist in potions is powerful. Being a magic skylander, he can throw potions that have different affects. He can also drink his potion and go beserk. He is really fun to play with along with his beserker and potion paths. There is both lightcore and normal figure, he also comes in a triple pack. I hoped you liked my review. Leave any comments or questions skylanders giants. :-)

Best Deals for Skylanders Giants Single Character Pack Core Series 2 Pop Fizz

Inititally I wasn't going to get Pop Fizz, but when I went on release day there was a very limited amount of Skylanders, and the only way to get series two Whirlwind and Trigger Happy was to get the triple pack with Pop Fizz. I'm actually glad that I gave him a shot. Not totally elated, however.

Speed: Fast

The way he runs is a little awkward, but he does get along pretty quickly.

Primary Attack:

Pop Fizz's primary attack is tossing his currently equipped potion. This attack, even when upgraded, is kind of clumsy and not very effective. You start out with an exploding orange potion, then a purple potion that creates little beakers that attack your enemies, then a green one that creates a puddle of acid that damages enemies that step into it. I will admit, the green potion is good for Wandering Trogs, as they take damage very slowly. If you chose the Mad Scientist upgrade path, your potions have increased damage and improved effects, you can release up to three potions at once, and the potions may be mixed when thrown (ex: if you throw an orange potion onto a green potion, a flame will spring up.)

Secondary Attack:

Far better than the primary attack, the secondary attack allows you to go into berserker mode. Pop Fizz is an alchemist, which explains why he uses potions, but he also has the Jekyl and Hyde ability to drink his potions (sometimes called "soda", probably to deter children from mixing dangerous things together and drinking them) and turn into a big, powerful beast. I like melee attacks, and the beast uses his big clawed hands to swipe crazily at enemies. It starts off not lasting very long, but gets better when upgraded. If you choose the Best of the Beast upgrade path, the beast meter drains slower, attacking enemies increases the meter, and he can preform attacks depending on whatever potion you currently have equipped.

Tertiary Attack:

Unlike a lot of the new Skylanders, Pop Fizz does not have a third main attack.

Soul Gem:

This redeems the potion abilities. You can shake the potion bottle rapidly, and it will cause an explosion that deals a serious blow. The only downside to this is that Pop Fizz becomes momentarily stunned from the explosion, and is therefore vulnerable to enemies.

Overall:

If you really want a new magic Skylander, hold out for Ninjini. She seems like her attacks are going to be much more effective, and she's a Giant on top of that. I'm not saying Pop Fizz is a bad Skylander, he's just not very powerful unless in beast mode.

Review of Operation Flashpoint Elite - Xbox

Operation Flashpoint Elite - Xbox
Customer Ratings: 3.5 stars

Operation Flashpoint was one of the best military games ever to come out for PC, and this is pretty much just a direct port of that game over to Xbox. So, if you have already played all the missions on PC, they're all here, unchanged on the Xbox version, so you might be a little bored with it

Other than that, this game is perfect. You hear some people bitch because the graphics aren't Halo level or whatever, but they're fine and really the fact that things look a little hazy farther away adds to the realism.

If you never played Operation Flashpoint on PC, I can't recommend this game highly enough. Ghost Recon was basically just a Flashpoint rip off, and Flashpoint does it better and offers you a more open ended experience, especially when compared with Ghost Recon 2 and its add ons.

Sometimes there is more than one enemy at 3 O'clock. ;-)

Considering the fact that the terrains included are FIVE 12 kilometer x 12 kilometer (or about 8 mile x 8 mile) completely unique islands where having skill at reading a topographical map is a distinct advantage, the graphics are excellent. HDR lighting, real-time shadows, depth-of-field effects, multiple LOD's, a completely realistic moving starfield, real-time day/night cycle and lighting, flying insects and birds with their own A.I., real tidal cycles and wave action proportionate to the state of the weather. The list goes on. Soviet soldiers have never looked so realistic in a PC game.

The developers somehow managed to take a game that ran with 256 Megs of RAM and make it work WELL on a console with 64 Megs of RAM.

A great deal of lies are being told about this game, probably because it is such an EMBARRASSMENT to all of the many watered-down titles claiming to be tactical-shooters, World War II Online and the very old "SEAL Team" by Electronic Arts probably being the only two exceptions.

In considering whether to buy this title, one might consider that Operation Flashpoint: Elite is basically the first military SIMULATION to grace the X-Box.

If you want to play a game that actually simulates real Army combined-arms operations, then this is the game for you. You cannot, however, scratch its depth in a 30-minute taste. The more you explore the gameplay and the islands, the greater your realization will be that this is the tactical shooter you've always wanted to play.

If you would rather be playing Halo or Doom, this game is not for you. For those who used to play Doom on the PC because they did not know that "SEAL Team" existed, Operation Flashpoint: Elite will feel like the tactical playground you've always wanted.

Operation Flashpoint: Elite is such a full-featured and realistic tactical-shooter that if you are planning on serving in the United States Army or United States Marine Corps any time soon, it would behoove you to get this 60+ hours of scenario training under your belt before you ship out to Iraq or Afghanistan. Chances are that you will see the game during your military service, as there is a version made just for the military called VBS1.

If you join the rest of us on the X-Box Live battlefield, be sure to ask for help. You should find the community quite willing to lend advice. You've never seen teamwork play such a heavy role in the outcome of a mission as you will in Operation Flashpoint: Elite.

Are you in to realistic military games? Have you logged over 40 hours into Ghost Recon? Have you played Socom: U.S Navy Seals at your friends house more times than he has? If you answered yes to any of these questions, you will love this game. When you start up this game, you will proboly notice that the graphics aren't that good. That is the only flaw about this game. In 2001 this game was realeased on the PC, and it was great. It was basically an offline Battlefield 1942. Now thatit is on the X-Box it carries over the awesome action of the PC version and adds nice control and x-box live functionality.(Not a lot of people play online so you might have to do some searching) This game is a dedicated military simulation that takes place near the mid 80's. So you WW2 enthusiests might want to look elsewhere. This game also features a mission creator which isn't just a level creator. You choose both teams weapons, vehicles(there are a lot to choose from), and Spawn Points.

This is a great game. If you can get past the bad graphics, you will find a deep and imersive shooter. Of corse, if you want a modern day military simulation, you might want to try America's Army. If you want a little less realism try Ghost Recon. But if you want the best military sim ever, buy this game.

Honest reviews on Operation Flashpoint Elite - Xbox

This game is marred by awkward, touchy controls and ugly visuals.

Grabbed this in hopes of having a solid military sim on console. While the game takes pride in providing a relatively hardcore experience in this respect, poor aiming more than does the job at turning your time with the game into an infuriating one. With a shooter, especially on a controller, you need the aiming to be as precise and smooth feeling as possible. It really just makes most engagements a chore to take on.

Add ugly, muddy visuals with lots of fogging and you have a product that neither plays well, nor is it anything to look at.

Sadly, I say avoid. Even with the lack of proper military sims on console, this one simply is not worth your time.

I recommended this game for those of you who like realistic shooters and don't mind the poor graphics and cheesy audio. This game has a high replay ability if you want to complete the two campaigns that add up to 60 missions, play some short instant action missions, create your own missions with a mission editor, and you can play multiplayer with ai bots! Now I am sure you are thinking "what bots?", but I assure you that their are multiplayer bots. In order to play with bots you need to open up a system link game, but get this I figured out a way to use system link with ONLY ONE XBOX, when you open the system link game it will ask you to please connect to another xbox, but if you just simply take a Ethernet cord or xbox system link cord and plug one end into your xbox and another into your laptop or computer (i used a Mac but PC will also work)this will cause the pop up message to disapear allowing you to go to the server menu and selecting create your own game. There are a number of maps and multiplayer modes, but I have not tried them all. The mode that seems to be most fun it free for all mode. When I played capture the flag I spawned with my team of 4 or 5 and I could not find the enemy team. I was killed by them but i never saw them and I dont believe they even tried to go for my flag, but I was playing with their difficulty on recruit so maybe that explains it. Overall it can be a fun game with tanks and helicopters that are hard to control at first, but you will get the hang of it. The mission editor is probly the stongest part of the game.

If you like Metallica you are going to love this game. You get MOST of Metallica's best songs and can play them on guitar, bass, drums, or sing them on the mic. The career mode is improved over World Tour. You no longer have to play a whole set at one time to unlock the next. You have to get a certain amount of stars to unlock the next, but all the sets are so awesome you are going to want to play them anyway. There are several new features such as Metallifacts which is basically the band playing a song and it giving little VH1 style tidbits about the song while it is playing. The note charts seem to be better than on World Tour as well. There are also little improvement to the interface as well, but let's face it....a guitar hero game is only as good as it's soundtrack. If you don't like metal you probably won't like this game. If you do you are in for a treat with songs such as: Master of Puppets, Enter Sandman, Fade to Black, One, Dyer's Eve, Battery, Hit the Lights, Nothing Else Matters, One, King Nothing, Seek and Destroy, For Whom the Bell Tolls, etc. Not to mention the other bands in the game: Slayer, Alice in Chains, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Machine Head, System of Down and others. It's quite exciting listening to the Ecstacy of Gold as Metallica comes on stage and then rocking out to For Whom the Bell Tolls. So if you are a Metallica fan you have to pick this one up, even if you aren't and you just like a good guitar hero challenge this one should keep you busy for awhile.

Guitar Hero: Metallica was one of my most anticipated video games of 2009 and it didn't disappoint. After this many games, I think I should summarize the series in a paragraph. GHII was an amazing game even if it didn't have the best soundtrack because the game play overshadowed it. This was the last official GH made by Harmonix. GHIII was a great game and was the last GH I was satisfied with. It only had a few minor issues such as easy hammer-ons/pull-offs and over charted songs. GH: Aerosmith was just plain boring and was a simple cash in. GH: World Tour, they started getting better at charting, however, the set list ruined that game. Guitar Hero: Metallica is the first game where Neversoft got everything right. They nailed it.

Let me start off saying that this is, like I said in the title, possibly the best GH out of all of them and I don't know if they'll ever be able to top it. GHM follows GHWT's formula, meaning that bass, drums, and vocals are back. Drums have a new difficulty, Expert+, that uses another bass pedal. I haven't really played any career except guitar, which is ten times more fun than GHWT's guitar career. I do know that the vocals are fixed since they were broken in GHWT. In battle mode, there are a few new additions, "Ride the Lightning", which is designed after "Amp Overload", and "Fade to Black", which blacks out your note chart. There were only a few songs I didn't find fun, while literally half of GHWT wasn't fun. I know that I'm mentioning GHWT a lot in this review, but its because it disappointed me so much and its hard to believe this was made by the same company. GHM has gotten me back into GH after two big disappointments. If you're a fan of Metallica or have been waiting for another good GH, buy this now. This is also a good start if you're new to the series.

It was about we had a game like this, where the set list is made up of great music. RockBand was cool and all, but having to play through songs by Creed, Offspring, and the like, was just way too painful.

GH Metallica Rocks!! Mercyful Fate, Slayer, Suicidal Tendencies, Queen, Machine Head, and of course, a lot of Metallica!!

Playing drums on Expert+ is awesome! We need more of that. Maybe a Guitar Hero "Metal" edition, or something like that, where we'd only get bands such as Nevermore, Black Sabbath, Testament, Megadeth, etc.

Here's the reason why I didn't give this title 5 stars:

* Some songs on the set list could have been replaced. For instance, they could have chosen a heavier song by Alice In Chains (such as Them Bones, Would, etc.). Or even Metallica songs like the ones from Load and Reload could have been dropped in anything else from the first 4 albums.

* The "practice mode" is pretty lame: you play the section once, and then the thing just stops. Why not loop through it like RockBand does?? Am I missing something here?

But again, other than that, this title rocks! I've been playing mostly the drums, but have done quite a bit on vocals, and have just started doing the guitar as well. Can't have enough of it. :)

Honest reviews on Guitar Hero Metallica - Xbox 360

Since Rockband has come out the GH series has suffered with mediocre offerings like Guitar Heo: Aerosmith and World Tour. Being a Metallica fan I was doubtful this game would be any good and certainly another flop in the GH track recrod.

Not the case... at all.

It's hard to describe but GH-Metallica FEELS like the GH1-2 on the PS2. Again hard to describe. The actual GH expierience is fun again.

All of the Metallica tracks are superb. The other bands featured meh, mostly one time through and you won't replay them. If you know the tunes and are a fan you will get into the playing aspect. My fiance and I were banging our heads through "King Nothing" and really getting into "Nothing Else Matters." The songs are challenging but fun to play on the hard difficulty level. Some songs like "Battery" seem near impossible on expert... as it well should :)

The visuals are great! Metallica is done justic in the GH style. If you've ever seen them live you will notice the mannerisms/gestures of each band member.

Character creation is lack luster and not really worth your time. GH has a ways to go to catch up with Rockband on that one.

If you're fan of the plastic guitar and Metallica it's worth the $60. Regardless of your views of Metallica they have put the fun factor back into a faltering franchise.

Try before you buy though; the demo is out on Xbox Live featuring "Sad But True."

I'm a big fan of the Guitar Hero video games, always have been ever since the first one was released on the PS2 over 3 years ago. All of them have been excellent in my opinion, but last fall saw the release of "Guitar Hero: World Tour" and it was the best one at that point. It had way more songs, the graphics were far superior to previous titles, all the songs were the original versions, there was a create-a-character function, and you could now sing and play drums as well.

Well, imagine all of those awesome features, but with Metallica at the center of it all. Buying this game was a no-brainer for me, because Guitar Hero just happens to be one of my favorite video game series right now and Metallica just happens to be one of my 2 favorite bands of all time. But that doesn't automatically make the game good. I remember I was somewhat disappointed with last year's "Guitar Hero: Aerosmith." I'm an Aerosmith fan, and it was great to have more songs to play, but I found the setlist kinda weak, the game was kinda short, and the graphics now seem subpar compared to "World Tour." But when I first popped in GH Metallica a few days ago, I was instantly blown away. The graphics are stunning, the Metallica avatars are incredibly accurate, and the audience looks awesome! Then, you've got 28 awesome Metallica songs to choose from. That's a winner right there, but they did a very nice job with the song choices. This game still has the same create-a-character option as in "World Tour," and you're still able to sing and play drums in addition to guitar and bass. Some cool new features include the ability to change the difficulty setting in the middle of the song, and you're also now able to get more star power while you're already using it. In addition to the Metallica tunes, you also have 21 songs to choose from by artists who are friends and influences of the band. There are also many more neat little surprises in the game, for example, being able to give your character a variety of different Metallica shirts (many of which I own in real life). You can also unlock James and Kirk's signature guitars and a few bonus characters. If you previously downloaded all the "Death Magnetic" songs, they will unlock on this game after you've finished it. I gotta say, I think this may be the best Guitar Hero game so far...not just because of the music, but the technical features as well. If you have different game systems, I think the X-Box 360 version is the only way to go. The look and feel of the game is obviously far superior to the Wii, and the PS3 is a pretty worthless system. With the incredible success of Metallica's latest album "Death Magnetic," their upcoming induction into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, and the release of this incredibly awesome game, I'd say Metallica is back to being the biggest metal band in the world.

Review of Digimon World

Digimon World
Customer Ratings: 4.5 stars

This is the ultimate game! THE coolest ever. Your mission is to raise and train your own Digimon to save the Digital World by returning Digimon who have "lost their hearts" to File City. There are days, years, many new Digimon (at least from the ones I know) and awesome battles! About a MILLION times better than Pokemon. And you won't get tired of it either. Only one flaw... There is no Mega Level Digimon. (Besides HerculesKabuterimon, but he's listed as an ultimate and even the Game's Guide doesn't tell you how to get H-Kabuterimon.) If you're hoping it's like the T.V. series...Don't hope... It's noting like it. But Its still awesome. If you like Digimon and own Play Station, BUY THIS GAME RIGHT NOW! Plus, I implore (strongly encourage) you to also buy the Game guide. I will help you a LOT! I read some reviews and saw that this would be a pretty cool game, but when I first played it, it blew me away! WOW!

This is one of the best games for the Playstation game console! You could go on for hours just playing this game! There aren't many new Digimon, pretty much the ones you've seen in the movie and show. The object of the game is to recruit the Digimon that are scattered around the Digiworld. The cause of them running away is Analogmon. After you recruit all the digimon you have to face him and three other bosses. Even though it says there are no Megas in this game, there are but only two. They are HerculesKabuterimon and Phoenixmon but they are listed as Ultimates. In the game guide it doesn't say how to get them but I'll tell you. You need to recruit Greymon and then he'll open up an arena, then you need to beat a certain tournament in the arena and the prize is "Beetlepearl" or "Red Ruby". Use them on a Champion form digimon and it'll digivolve into H-Kabuterimon(via Beetlepearl) or Phoenixmon(via Red Ruby)!

Hard Drive Transfer Cable For Xbox 360 Reviews

Hard Drive Transfer Cable For Xbox 360
Customer Ratings: 2 stars

I ordered this kit as a plan B, due to difficulties ordering directly from the Microsoft store online.

Unfortunately, this is not the entire Xbox 360 HD data transfer kit. It is only the cable included in said package.

In order to transfer data from an Xbox 360 to another 360, you need a corresponding disc to insert into the Xbox, which this product DOES NOT SHIP WITH.

If you're intending to use this for Xbox Data Migration, (as i was) refrain from purchasing this product from this seller, and buy it directly from the Microsoft store online!

First of all, This item is like poison to your hardrive. Any hard drive that you connect to this fake transfer kit will suffer the same fate as mines did. If you connect this to your harddrive and 360, The new drive that you have connected to the transfer kit will be detected as a USB drive for some reason, And the 360 will ask you to format it, From there your hard drive is completely ruined beyond return. I don't understand why people sell these fake transfer kits when all they do is ruin other people's 360s.

Buy an official transfer kit from Gamestop or any official outlet that sells it. It seems unfortunate that buying it from sellers off amazon is a scam.

Don't buy ANYTHING from this seller. Its a counterfeit cord that he tries to justify by cost. Didn't work. The XBOX thought it was USB Flash Drive and if you don't pay attention it will delete your hard drive. To top it off he's rude about it like its ok for him to sell items that say Microsoft on them when are fakes from Asia.

Honest reviews on Hard Drive Transfer Cable For Xbox 360

As the other review stated this is an incomplete product. Don't be fooled by people claiming that the new Slim 360 has the data mitigation software built in, it doesn't. I just got my slim recently and bought this product believing one of the 5 star reviews. I hooked it all up and it does see the drive... as a USB device that needs to be formatted. Great format your drive and you've just defeated the purpose of buying the silly cord. Save yourself the 10 bucks (after shipping) and use it towards the official package that comes with the DVD software.

So the first thing I did was plug it into my PC (which I find odd that it says to do that), and it recognizes the adapter but doesn't recognize the Xbox 360 HDD. So then I though "Maybe there's a driver I need on the CD that came with it" I put the CD into my drive and immediately get a warning from my antivirus that there was malware on the CD and it had automatically removed it.

I opened the Word Document on the CD that is the "Instructions" on how to use this kit (Remember, this is labeled as a Hard Drive Transfer Cable) and if you can read the garbled English, from what I can tell it doesn't actually get used for transferring data. Instead it is basically a save file hacking tool that is completely useless to me and NOT what I ordered.

I plugged the adapter into my Xbox and it didn't recognize the drive at all, so now I've basically got a useless kit that I'm scared to even fully test out now and am considering throwing away.

DO NOT BUY THIS. GO FOR THE MORE EXPENSIVE ONE. Xbox 360 Hard Drive Transfer Cable

Yes, the other adapter is more expensive than this. Key points to the other one:

-It will get to you a lot faster than this ever will (Mine was in the mail for a month)

-It will not have a potential virus

-It will not be used for save file hacking

-It will be properly recognized by your Xbox 360

-It will actually transfer data

Reviews of Skullcandy PLYR2 Surround Sound Wireless Gaming Headset

Skullcandy PLYR2 Surround Sound Wireless Gaming Headset, Black/Yellow
Customer Ratings: 5 stars

I was looking for a nice, durable, wireless headset to replace my Plantronics Gamecom 377. Several of my friends complain about Skullcandy as being a cheap-sounding, "looks first, sound quality 2nd" line of products. I ignored them and bought this headset, and it sounds fantastic. However, I understand why they were complaining about Skullcandy's product line. I live on-campus at a university, and there is a skullcandy retail store where you can try on all of Skullcandy's other headphones. Compared to this headset, the rest of Skullcandy's headphones feel and sound very cheap, have treble that isn't crisp, and poor bass response. Also, the other headphones have a very echo-y sound to them. This model, the Plyr 2, blows all other Skullcandy products out of the water. Additionally, I can watch netflix and play games 5-6 hours a day for 3 or 4 days before I have to recharge the headset.

The ONLY complaint that I have about this product is the connectivity. I use it with the PC, so the microphone is USB powered. Sound goes through the USB cable as well, but it is low-quality mono channel. I hooked the 3.5 mm audio jack from the Pc to the wireless transmitter, and sound quality is fantastic. If you are hoping to have everything hooked up entirely by a single USB port, that wont work, but if you don't mind hooking up USB for the microphone + 3.5 mm Audio out jack, then it is a very good product.

This game got little to no advertisements and has been delayed far too many times for people to care by this point.

That right there is what I expect most people to be thinking. Well good news! The game is actually great! The gunplay is excellent and the setting is actually pretty tense and creepy. I like the story so far myself but I see many don't care much for it. If you don't care for the story that should be fine because this is an excellent shooter that has many explosive moments and (so far) has been a thrill ride of fun and destruction. I'm so surprised about this game because I really did not intend on buying it. I read about it a long time ago and it seemed awesome but by the time I saw it being released it seemed very meh. Well luckily that isn't the case and I highly recommend this game.

As far as Multiplayer goes it is a mixed bag. I find it to be very fun but I can see it not exactly being the highlight that people would like. One team plays as humans and the other as Mutants. There are different classes for each side and they all have different abilities such as Healing, teleporting, puking, controlling the enemy team, and just plain strong. It is very different but quite a fun distraction if you take the time to try it. The only thing I've seen that seems annoying is that a lot of the games I've gotten into have been one sided. Either one side totally destroys and wins the game or the other. Not too often is it a tie or close game. There are also only two modes to play and they may not keep your attention too long. One other downside is I've noticed some lag in the games when in the larger (12 people) games. Not so bad because it doesn't always happen but it's noticeable and could be a turn-off.

So all-in-all I have been having an excellent time with this game that came out of nowhere and I recommend it if you've been craving a violent well-made FPS with some fun (if maybe not long-lasting) Multiplayer to boot. Definitely an excellent distraction while waiting for other great games. It's just sad it has gotten so little hype and attention because I can see this being a great series.

When I first heard of Singularity last fall, I was pretty happy since I like science fiction style FPS games. Well, after a delay or two the game came out and I am pretty happy I bought it.

PROS:

-Eerie atmosphere (akin to FEAR) that can, and will, keep you on edge

unique enemies that each take some thought as how to defeat

A pretty good science fiction/alternate reality story (I won't spoil here)

-Good gunfights, some thoughtful weaponry

-Good multiplayer, unique because it isn't just another "soldier v soldier" match, instead it is creatures v soldiers

-On normal, the campaign is probably 8 to 10 hours long, so it isn't short by any means, maybe typical of fps lengths.

-It is similar to the Bioshock/System Shock 2

-I enjoy not knowing what situation will come next in the campaign, keeps me on edge

Campaign jumps between the year 2010 and the 1950s

CONS:

-AI needs a little work, but puts up a decent fight (I'm on normal)

-Not too many multiplayer modes yet

-No subtitles or place to reference previously found notes and tape recordings

-tape recordings

-fairly linear story (I don't mind at all, but some people want a more sandbox style FPS, I guess)

-Iffy Russian accents

-Unfortunately, too many backwards "R" letters, and many of the films or posters are written in english, but using Russian Cyrillic characters to spell which seems lazy or cheesy to me since I know a bit of Russian.

It may seem like there are a lot of cons listed, but really they are nothing major and more of just personal taste for me. I really enjoy this game and intend to play it for quite a while. If you like atmospheric FPS games then go and buy this. Ideally you should have pre-ordered as it came with a free copy of the 360 game "Prototype", a 1GB usb memory stick, and a multiplayer skin for the regular price of an Xbox 360 game.

2010/7/02 EDIT:

-Beat the game, 3 possible, great endings!

-Multiplayer is fun, but not too many people are on, so play while it's up at all.

-If you're into Achievements, they are fairly straightforward in this game and you could get all 1000/1000 with a little dedication.

This is definitely better in many ways than the recent Wolfenstein game put out by Raven last year and a lot more fun. You should buy it.

Best Deals for Singularity with Bonus Exclusive Graphic Novel -Xbox 360

Singularity is a pretty fun game while it lasts. Its controls are very tight, and an FPS game is more or less defined by this standard. It's an interesting game from start to finish despite there being many drawbacks to the game in general. Most people have complained about the archaic graphics in this game, but I didn't really mind that at all. The graphics in this game are definitely not breaking any ground even for a game that came out two years ago it would still look dated but the action is so well staged it doesn't matter. The voice acting is absolutely terrible, and the story is as washed up as humanly possible, but who cares. As long as you get to blast monsters into limbo that should be enough to keep any gamer interested. However, there are several things about the game that needed some major polish before being released, but in the end, Singularity is a good time.

The developers of Singularity understood that the fundamental reason why people play a first person shooter game is to shoot enemies in the face, and you get plenty of opportunity to do that in this game. There are some great weapons to use throughout the game such as the "Seeker" where you can control bullets to go around corners that finally, when they meet their destination, tear the unlucky victim to shreds. As morbid as this sounds, the violence in Singularity can be very satisfying. There are lots of slo-mo's, close-ups, and limbs flying around, and it can get pretty chaotic. To me, that is the sign of a great FPS. Action needs to be the main focal point, and this game rarely disappoints in that aspect.

The sound is great in this game as well. Some levels have a very high level of detail, and you can hear grunts and screams coming at you from all sides. It really helps build a tense atmosphere during some of the levels, and because the graphics are pretty average, the sound makes up for it in spades.

I've seen comparisons of this game to Bioshock and Half-Life, and those observations are not unwarranted. The dark atmosphere and 50's vibe are reminiscent of Bioshock, as are the randomly placed voice recorders that you find as you venture through the game. Hearing the distant and disturbed voices on the recorders is pretty much a straight lift from Bioshock, but it didn't distract me from the story at all. There is also a gravity gun which is more or less a take from Half-Life. Not a big deal, but it still shows that the Singularity developers were more interested in action than originality. Which brings me to my list of complaints.

First of all, the AI in Singularity is the worst I have seen in a game in years. It's really really bad. There was an instance where a bad guy was standing right in front of me, took a shot at me, stood there, looked at me, turned the other direction, and calmly waited for me to blow his head off. This kind of thing happens throughout the game. There is absolutely nothing difficult about this game whatsoever. Sure the action is great and you get to blow apart the baddies, but after a while you need at least a little bit of challenge. Another annoying thing about the AI is that the Russians you're about to kill will stand there and scream at you, repeating the same expressions over and over and over again. If the AI is going to bellow at you and completely blow their cover in order for you to adequately kill them, at LEAST give them more dialogue.

When I mentioned before that the violence is satisfying in Singularity, it can also be shabbily detailed and out and out lazy. For instance, when you shoot an enemy in the left arm, his left arm will fly off. Stands to reason. However, his head and his legs will also go catapulting into the air. If you shoot a guy in the left arm, why would his right leg and head pop off? I know, I know, this is a silly video game to begin with, but what I'm trying to say is that each time you kill someone, the exact same dying animation will show with each and every kill. Short on ideas, I say.

Another area where the developers really failed was with the time manipulation idea. This concept is always awesome in theory, but Singularity proves that it's yet another lame attempt at an ancient gimmick. The only time you get to manipulate time is to turn old boxes and staircases into their former selves, turn new locks into future dust, and occasionally go back in time to shoot a few bad guys for a few minutes before rushing back to the future. The time travel idea was more of a distraction than an engaging plot point.

Something else that was laughable about the game was the all English voice acting. I realize that this is a game produced by English speaking individuals, but when you have a tribe of Russians who are dedicating their very souls to bringing down the evil Western influences, and speaking English while they do it, it takes a considerable amount of believability and authenticity away from the story. There is an unintentionally funny scene in the game where you view a Russian propaganda film about the evil of the West being spoken entirely in English. Err, really? Why even bother trying to integrate a story when stuff like this is going on? I would have had more respect for the game if it just glossed over aspects like this and given us a few more hours of blowing stuff up. It's pointless to add scenes like this when it adds absolutely nothing to the big picture. This really is the fundamental problem of the game: it can't decide whether it wants tell a story, or just be a kick-a** shooter. If it had dedicated itself to one or the other it would have been a much stronger experience.

The biggest disappointment with this game is its length. I finished this game in under 7 total hours on my first play through. While that's not a crime in video game circles, it certainly doesn't warrant a purchase price of 60 dollars. If ever you were to rent a game, Singularity would be it.

There is definitely more wrong with Singularity than there is right. Raven has been developing this game for over two years, so to see such a mediocre result is genuinely surprising. I read a few reviews from fellow Amazon customers citing a laundry list of negatives concerning this game, yet still awarding it five stars. Five stars represents a perfect game. How can one hand out a five star review to a game that has so many clear flaws? Singularity has many problems, and any conscientious reviewer would be irresponsible to give it five stars.

That doesn't mean Singularity doesn't have great moments as well. As a weekend rental, I would highly recommend this game. It has enough tight gameplay, cool weapons, and over the top violence to satiate any fan of the FPS genre. Just don't expect to still be interested once that weekend is over. I realize that rating a game for length can be a touchy subject, but I feel that paying 60 dollars for a game that only lasts a few hours is extremely excessive. Moreover, if you're going to blatantly borrow from games like Bioshock, you better come correct and at least do your best to match one single aspect of the game you're emulating. Otherwise, you're just another imitator trying to cash in on a somewhat tired idea.

What Singularity lacks in originality it makes up for in exuberance and a love for old school game play. It's not about to light the gaming world on fire, but sometimes that's just fine.

Honest reviews on Singularity with Bonus Exclusive Graphic Novel -Xbox 360

I have this game and quite honestly, I can't remember the last time I had this much fun. The game is dense, atmospheric, challenging and engaging enough to make you want to try going after those achievements again and again. The theme is different and wholly refreshing but it's the nostalgic familiarity (a frozen time lapse of a world that might not have been so different from our own) that makes it difficult to put the game down. The scenery detail is fantastic, the ambiance is unnerving and the action is satisfying in both its quality and timeliness. It's the kind of game that after you've finished it and you put the controller down, you feel like you've left your room and been some place else. Wouldn't have expected anything less from Raven.

BTW, If you ever played You Are Empty and either loved it for its unusual theme, brooding pace, immaculate texture rendering and those memorable cut-scenes, or hated it and often wondered how it might've come out with better production values, Singularity provides sumptuous food for thought.

When I read about the setting for game and saw the visuals, it looked like the game was custom made for me Cold War era Russians, abandoned, decrepit buildings, time travel and manipulation mixed with great FPS action. I love the art direction, time-manipulation device, and alternate world weapons used to battle the mutated creatures of Katorga-12. For me the downside was the ending the action felt a bit anticlimactic after some of the great previous action sequences. It didn't ruin the experience for me however the game definitely deserves a playthrough!
