Buy Aliens Vs. Predator: Extinction

Aliens Vs. Predator: Extinction
Customer Ratings: 4 stars

Aliens vs Predator Extinction is a StarCraft style game pitting the human marines against the classic sci-fi monsters Aliens and Predators. Three separate campaigns await!

There are 7 missions per group, and 20 maps that you explore. Sometimes you are the marines, trying to defend your base against the onslaught of nasties. Sometimes you are the aliens, carefully tending to your nest of eggs and developing a new queen. Each group has its own growth trees, its advancements and goals.

The graphics are good but not excellent. The maps are sometimes quite on the plain side endless caves, endless jungles. The sound is reasonably good and does give you a spooky feeling sometimes, worrying what might be around the next corner.

None of the groups are easy to play, and the game is definitely not an arcade-style shoot-em-up. You have to lay down a well thought out strategy, using each of your unit types to its best advantage, if you're going to win. Anyone who has seen the movies knows that whatever side you're on, there are usually overwhelming odds stacked up against you that usually leave only one man standing. The game is no exception. Don't expect an easy mow-down-the-enemy game. Whichever side you play, you're going to have to play WELL to move along.

I realize that plots are usually rather transparent in these games, but I do still like them. I was disappointed with the plot and cutscenes in here you get a brief 'do this' description in the beginning and if you win, you win. I would really have loved some cinematics to show what was happening and to give you a sense of satisfaction when you win the game. To just have it say "OK, campaign done." wasn't very much fun after many hours of playing.

Probably the most disappointing part was the complete lack of multiplay. We often have friends over the house to play games with us, and this one was a sit-and-watch game only. You can't multiplay in the same house. You can't multiplay over XBox Live. And since there are only 7 missions per group, once you finish those missions, the game is completely over. That's rather short for us we enjoy games that we play for months and months, unlocking new features and missions and playing multiplay. To have a game that just ends after a week of play seems rather short.

A great game for a sci-fi and StarCraft style strategy fan, but be ready to sell it back to the game store for their used shelves when you're done.

First let me start off by saying I absolutely love the Aliens vs. Predator franchise. Its probably one of the best ideas that had ever been conceived. Pitting two of the most popular movie monsters of all time against one another in a fight to the death...what could be more fun? Well, unlike the other Aliens vs.Predator games, AvP:Extinction breaks the First Person Shooter criteria and comes in with a Real-Time Strategy game. Its a nice attempt, but ultimately flawed.

The graphics in the game are sub-par...as far as a strategy game goes they're decent, but just very average...clearly nowhere near the caliber of Warcraft III or Command and Conquer: Generals. However, examining the creatures up close yields further distortions in graphics. Some of the aliens look ridiculous, and the Predators look just plain silly. The design is very cartoonish, just like Aliens vs. Predator 2 for the PC, which many people complained about. The environments are also very drab and dull...nothing really stands out. Some of the jungle environments are nice, but most of the environments, such as interior settings and caves, are just lifeless and boring.

The game itself is very simplistic. While creating endless droves of Aliens is alot of fun, the whole game just lacks substance. Aliens use the Queen to lay eggs, and drag back hosts that they killed (or more likely, just invaded and nearly wiped out your colony the moment the mission started). The Queen is basically the epicenter of the hive...you purchase all upgrades by selecting her, and using 'currency' earned by killing your enemies, you can upgrade your aliens. The basic Alien species are there: the warrior, the drone, the dog alien from Alien 3, the praetorian introduced in the AvP games, and new Aliens called 'Ravagers', which are huge, monstrous aliens with blades for hands that rend and maim opponents. The 'Carrier' is a large Alien that allows facehuggers to attach to its dorsal spines and leap out at enemies as you go. Nice ideas, though the creatures themselves look uninspired. All the aliens have unique abilities, and playing as them was an overall fine experience, but the game is just not executed well.

As for Predators, you are very limited in forces, which is understandable considering how powerful they are. The only building they have is the 'Shrine', where upgrades can be purchased and new Predators summoned. All the Predators have unique abilities and weapons, though some of them look uterly ridiculous...one Predator has a scythe, and it just doesn't go well with the whole Predator look. Cloaking is utterly useless, since it seems that everyone and everything can see you regardless. Predators earn curency by killing, as well as taking trophy skulls of their enemies.

Marines are simple enough to use, though difficult to play. The 'CommTech' is used to purchase upgrades and summon more units from the dropship. If the commtech is killed, you're out of luck. Some of the humans are immensely powerful, which throws the balance of the game off alot. The marines don't have any structures of any kind, just one landing beacon where the drop ship lands. Marines earn currency by fixing 'Atmos' which generate steady income. They must be defended, since Aliens and Predators will try to destroy these every chance they get.

The game is unbeleivably difficult...it should be the Aliens that come in countless swarms...not marines and Predators. The final Alien mission is infuriating...the moment the mission starts out, you are attacked by all three sides (Marine, Predator, Mutant Aliens) and they don't attack each other...they attack you. Some of the earliest Predator missions open up right into the middle of a fire fight...the Predators should be able to decimate marines but the endless swarm of marines and their incredibly strong fire power are too much. The game can end before you even get out of the starting area. As for marines...forget it. Aliens and Predators swarm you so much you won't even know whats going on half the time.

Overall, the game's biggest fault is that it was designed narrowly...with the consoles in mind. All the races, while characteristically different, are fundamentally the same. None have any structures, other than the main population center (Queen, Shrine, Landing Beacon). The game is somewhat unbalanced, with some units just being far too powerful. The idea of Alien procreation is good and is probably one of the best aspects of the game, but this game is just far too basic of an RTS. Perhaps its biggest fault is the complete lack of Multi-player and custom missions. Once you beat the game, that's it. You're done. There is nothing else to do, unless you want to try for a 'medal' by fulfilling all mission requirements in a certain amount of time. The game is virtually devoid of extras, and there are no ending cinematics...when you beat a campaign...that's it...you're just done. You won. Nothing else. There is no downloadable content or anything else...this is strictly a one-player strategy game that, once beaten, has absolutely nothing else going for it. This was a decent attempt to expand the Aliens vs. Predator franchise into a new game genre...but it fails. Perhaps they should've paid more attention to existing strategy games...its utter lack of options and extras throws this game back almost ten years...compared to other RTS games, it is basic and completely mediocre. The game was fun, but it took only about 2 or 3 days to complete, and playing it anymore beyond that became pointless, because there was nothing else to do.

This just further proves that RTS games belong on PCs, not consoles. Had this game been released for the PC, with multi-player options, extra content, and a better game engine overall, then this would have been a winner. As it stands, it was a decent but failed attempt.

Okay, I am kind of hesitant playing a strategy game without a mouse, but this game's system is actually really easy to learn and use. All three species very, which keeps you hooked after the first few missions. I would like to say that since each side varies so much, that each side would be really different to play, but it isn't so. You still need large numbers to accomplish much in this game. The upgrades are nice and inventive, and the Predators ripping the heads off of their kills is priceless! The sound effect for that particular event is great.

I did like the soundtrack, even though there was very few background tracks total.

Over all, the game is very hard. But it does have it's perks, and if you can't afford a computer and still love strategy games, this one will definetly fill your plate.

I love these original controllers although some people do not like them because the controller is large.

I have large hands so this controller rocks.

Ordered a used one and it works perfectly.

I have fairly large hands AND a mix of carple tunnel and arthritis and it's really painful to use the smaller "S" controller for longer than an hour. I've never had a problem using the original Xbox controller and wish I could find one modded for the 360. I would definitely pay top dollar for one!

The game itself is a lot of fun, great graphics and easy to grow into. There are some obscure Beatles tunes included, but frankly all are fun to play and there are still quite a few of the Beatles' biggest hits on the software as well. Overall I'm very happy with the game itself.

But the drums are not good at all. Without buying covers for them to dampen the noise, they're extremely loud and 'clacky' to play. The guitar feels very cheap too, and overall based on the price of this bundle I guess I got what I paid for. I intend to replace the drums with a better kit that will be more fun to play, but in the meantime I'm stuck with the cheaper drums (according to other reviewers the RB1 drums...which I never had but assume to be true based on pics of the RB2 drum kit this is no RB2 drum kit).

Do yourself a favor and buy a drum kit and guitar that you like, then pick up this software individually. This kit gets you in the game, but you'll quickly find yourself wanting to upgrade the equipment if you play it for any length of time.

The game is great, but there's no USB hub, as advertised in the product description and on the box itself. It's only a $5-10 item, but then, where's my discount?

Best Deals for Xbox 360 The Beatles: Rock Band Special Value Edition

As a previous reviewer before me has stated, the box advertises a 4:1 Powered USB Hub as being included but no USB hub to be found in the box. I called EA support after going to the Rock Band support website and was informed that, yes, a USB hub was to be included. Glad to see that I'm not the only one not receiving the USB hub in the box. Will call EA back and ask for the USB hub to be sent (since it is advertised as part of the price).

The game itself is fun. This is my first music-type game and I am finding this to be pretty addicting. Will have to order the Gretsche guitar (with auto-calibration) just so I can pretend I'm a real Beatle. :-D

Honest reviews on Xbox 360 The Beatles: Rock Band Special Value Edition

As other reviewers noted, the instruments which ship with this are from the original RockBand. Under no circumstances should anyone buy this package. RockBand instruments had a very high failure rate, the guitar neck snapping and the drum pedal breaking are the two most common problems. The drum heads are also very noisy and will annoy anyone around you. I've seen several retailers trying to push the RockBand Special Edition for $99. This seems like an underhanded way to try and clear out their warehouses since the average consumer does not realize the faults inherent to the first edition instruments.

I have the same exact comments as the other reviews. I love the game, however the instruments are a major disappointment. We had already purchased RB 2 for our Wii and decided to switch over to the XBOX 360 when we went for Beatles RB because we thought the graphics would be better. We purchased the Special Value Bundle not realizing that it comes with old RB1 equipment. The whole reason why there's a different guitar included with RB2 is that it was upgraded after people complained about the RB1 guitar. I also just found out today that you can't use the cymbal expansion package with the RB1 drum kit. If I had known, like someone else mentioned, I would have bought a new version of RB2 for the XBOX 360 and then just bought the Beatles RB software. I also did not receive the USB hub in the box. I also downgraded this from 5 stars to 3 for the above reasons.

Order Up! Review

Order Up!
Customer Ratings: 4.5 stars
Buy Now
As I've mentioned in other reviews, the Wii is not my console of choice. I bought it for my wife to keep her busy while I logged hours in front of the Xbox 360.

I bought Order Up for my wife as a birthday gift. I feel bad that three days later, she's logged about 45 minutes at the controls, and I've beaten the game at 5 hours, 59 minutes in.

The game is simply that addictive. From the first burger you make until the last visit from the food critic at "Chez Haute" restaurant, you will not want to put this game down.

Your first reaction might be to think that at 6 hours, this game is very short. This isn't untrue, but this is a game that better rewards the casual player. In my course through the game, I served less than 10 "non-perfect" dishes. I refused to serve "good" food, and instead would throw food away multiple times until earning a "perfect" score. Also, by mastering the art of spicing (which is clearly defined within the game) I was able to generate upwards of $200 per table served, and would end a "work day" with over $800 in the bank. Because of this I was easily able to keep my spices stocked, hire the best employees, and upgrade my kitchen very quickly. As a result I made money very fast, and progressed through the game with lightning speed. My wife on the other hand is not nearly as perfectionist, and is satisfied with serving Good or OK dishes. This can end up making for a longer play through the game. I say this as a good thing though this game will entertain her much longer than it did myself.

Many reviews from gaming sites gave less than satisfactory remarks on the controls, saying that everything except folding burritos or omelettes worked well. This is simply not true. Every motion with the Wii control can be easily learned and skillfully mastered. From flipping steaks to cutting swordfish to tearing lettuce to folding crepes I could earn perfect every time. Speed is the key, and some careful precision "aiming" with the remote helps. Also, note that in the instruction manual it states that the "nunchuk" attachment is not needed, but adds some redundant controls to ease gameplay. THIS IS VERY TRUE!! The control stick on the nunchuck offers quicker ability to scroll through your cooking stations instead of having to leave the 'A' button on the remote and reaching the D-pad. With the nunchuk connected, I drastically reduced my meal prep times. I could serve a four-guest table in less than 2 minutes.

What makes this game so much more fun is that you are responsible for running a business. At the start of every day it's up to you on how to spend the wares of the previous day. You may want to unlock some new dishes, hire a new assistant cook (you have a limit of two,) purchase the recipe for exclusive "chef's specials," or and this was always important stock up on spices. You could also upgrade various aspects of your kitchen, making appliances work quicker, making grills and stoves cook faster, or even make you knives sharper. In some regards this made the game more challenging because it's harder to juggle three cooking stations when they all cook faster! In the end, you spent nearly as much time outside of the restaurant as you did inside, and both areas were equally entertaining.

I will agree with others that the game could have used more depth and length. Another restaurant or two would have been nice. A two-player mode would have been fantastic. I personally would have liked to see more "mature" patrons at the nicer resturants I got tired of the guy wearing a soup-can hat and farting on my surf-and-turf dinner... The only real dissapointing part I felt was the "delivery guy" who could bring you super fresh meat or seafood, or fresh, "organic" vegetables. The downside was you had to pay $1 to call the delivery guy, then when he showed up, had to pay upwards of $10 to pull a slot-machine handle built into his delivery truck, only to not win anything at all for your troubles!! After this happened 5 times in a row, I never called the guy again. There should have been a better reward system implemented to make this work. But obviously it wasn't needed to enjoy or complete the game. Lastly, I could not earn a perfect score on my pizza because the game wanted you to place pepperoni in some perfect pattern without any clear explanation. That, as a perfectionist, simply drove me crazy. Luckily I cooked all of 4 or 5 pizzas through the entire game.

Order Up was a very enjoyable experience that I look forward to continue playing even after I have beaten the game. I think that in itself says all that needs to be said. Serve me up another!

This game was a great and new approach to added cooking genre of games. Although fun, I feel it was somehow rushed as well.

Story in a nutshell:

You start the game working at a basic restaurant, and as you get more stars you get to upgrade to the next level restaurant to become the ultimate cook in the end.

Pros:

Different variety of restaurants to own

Many different recipes that pertain to the restaurant (Italian,

Mexican,etc.)

Cook with spices

Ability to buy items (Spices, Upgrade you equipment, etc)

Hire help each with different abilities

Great and wonderful design style

Little mini-games (Health Inspector, flicking rats, etc.)

A little shopping place to buy your spices or special recipes

Meet the needs of certain customers by putting in spices they like

Has a humor aspect

Cons:

WAY TOO SHORT! Took me only 7 hours to beat, but I played the game on easy and still did not unlock the other special recipes so you could possibly be looking at 10-12 hours of game play. Still it would have been nice to have two more restaurants to at least fill the void possibly a Japanese, Chinese or Indian restaurant.

Repetitive at times, although there were many recipes it seemed you always did the same things with the Wii remote, nothing new or inventive many times when preparing the food.

The market only had two places to explore. It would have been nice to have a variety of markets each with it's own type of spices (Italian, Asian, etc.). It also would have been nice to walk around the market square or explore the island

Not able to improve your hired help or have them level up to become better chefs. It was a pain liking the characters personality, but having to fire them due to just getting "good" many times and not "perfect"

I don't appreciate having to see that little boy ride his bike every time and throw the paper, it would be nice to skip over that scene, the same with the customers walking in.

It would have been nice to see many more characters in the game, and they change their spice recommendations or the ingredient they like.

Better mini-games, I would have like to see different games to do. Like with the Health Inspector and the rats.

NO TWO-PLAYER MODE! That really would have added to the potential of the game. It would make it's replay value double. It's no fun having a friend just watch me play this game and not be able to play as well, or have them come in a help me when I'm in the main game.

The characters seem to be repetitive in what they say. Also, it kind of erks me that the waiters seem to be as well. Like in the Mexican restaurant we have the waiter referring to only one customer as, "Senors and Senoritas".

Overall:

I based my review towards other cooking games, and since there's only a few I know of I believe this one to be the better of them. It was fun, different ( about time we get games other then just the usual) and I did enjoy it in the little time it lasted, still you can not help to see that this game was rushed. There's many things in the game play that prove just that. This game could have had so much more potential if released a little later and those things worked out.

ZOO your in the right direction, this game has a lot of potential, just keep at it! I'm hoping to see a 2nd one sooner or later.

Best Deals for Order Up!

I am fairly new to wii, and I am a casual gamer. I enjoyed this game quite a bit. I did try Cooking Mama, and I liked this game more. You had more things to do than just to cook. You could control your chefs, earn new upgrades, and you had some control in the restaurant itself, and I liked these challenges.

For me the learning curve on this game hasn't been too much, I can see that if you are a more serious gamer or if you are looking for a lot of game play out of this game, it may be lacking, as the story line doesn't last too long. The graphics are decent, but the limited vocals can get a little annoying, but many are very clever.

All in all I think this is a good game. I liked that it wasn't too hard, I don't play everday. If you are a serious gamer this may not be your best option or you may want to wait until the price on this game goes down. I am definately hopeful they will make a 2nd edition, because I will definately be picking it up.

Honest reviews on Order Up!

This game is tons of fun! It is a great cooking title, and will keep you busy and entertained for hours. You will have so much fun creating and cooking a huge variety of dishes, and also ordering your staff to do certain cooking tasks! It will excite you to earn money and buy new ingredients, spices, cooking tools, and restaurants. Great game all-around. With loads of fun minigames, you'll never get bored. I compare this (favorably) to Cooking Mama, because you don't just cook, you get to manage an entire restaurant!

Find helpful customer reviews and review ratings for Order Up!

This is a great, somewhat addicting game with a very humorous overtone to what happens during the game. I'd give the game five stars!

However, the controls for the wii are terrible! It's like the creators really tried to work in the functionality of the wii remote (moving it, turning it, etc.) but did a poor job as such. I find myself quitting the game out of frustration of not being able to perform the simplest of tasks.

For example, soon into the game you have to buy spices, and visit the spice man at the farmers market. He eventually tests you, which you have to move your controller in a specific pattern in order to be accepted to buy his spices. Try as I might, I could only get 2 out of 10 correct. Mind you I'm an avid gamer, and not at all uncomfortable with handling the wii remote, or winning, what not.

Another frustration is peeling lettuce, yes sounds simple doesn't it! You have to get the wii cursor just right, and keep your hand orientated, or else you'll fail and get "poor". It doesn't feel like natural motions whatsoever.

Lastly something as simple as flipping a burger isn't easy. You must perform the full flipping action, then the game "accepts" what you do, and you see an on-screen result. There is a split second where you don't even know if you did it correct, and you start to try again. Same goes with flipping pancakes, or omelets, etc.

I find to get the best control in the game, I have to be right in front of my tv (not off to one side or the other on the sofa), and very much concentrating on the task at hand.

Good luck with the game, but know the controls need a little work to be on par with some of the nicer wii games out there.

*** Update ***

I still give this game 3-stars for terrible controls, but if you have enough patience, you can figure out strategies that work with foods. For example, Lettuce is easy now, you click, HOLD, and just move your control rapidly left/right. I still have the most trouble with carving, and haven't found a good reliable way to do this quickly.

As for the spice chop game, you have to be directly in front of your tv, then imagine a 2foot x 2foot square in front of you. When you go to chop chop, look at this area (not the screen), and perform the movement watching your wii remote. I can usually get 10/10 with this

I needed a joystick, nothing fancy just something simple. I bought one that was a little too simple for about $16. I needed ANOTHER one. I found this Logitech Attack 3 one, for also $16. The caliber of the LA3 in quality and use is amazing. This joystick is fantastic. The stick itself is spring loaded but feels like it's gliding. The buttons and trigger are all on hair touches making for easy presses. And the throttle is a gliding scroll button that's very smooth and never leaves where you put it. One hand works the stick while the other works the bottom buttons and throttle. If you need a joy stick for some simple flying and dog fighting, (i.e. Star Wars Galaxies: Jump to Lightspeed) then the Logitech Attack 3 is perfect for you. Low price that delivers way more than it should. If you're a "sim" kind of guy then no, don't get this because it's not a sim stick, it's a joy stick, and it will bring you joy.

This joystick is solidly built & comforatable during long sessions. It's a pleasure to use. The 12 programmable buttons make it very adaptable ( good for MS Flight Simulator ). Plus, the reasonable price makes it easy to afford. Overall I would recommend it to anyone.

Unit installed in seconds with no false starts or headaches of any kind. The base is wide and heavy and when placed on a mouse pad doesn't move around at all, even when I get a little too "into" my flight sim games. One can't beat the price either. For flying prop planes, I am very saisfied with the performance.

Honest reviews on Logitech Attack 3 Joystick

I just purchased mine today and am quite happy with it so far. It works quite well with sp2 on xp pro and i didn't even have to reboot. Just plugged it in and away it went. The only criticism i have is it doesn't 'float' the way i thought it would. Moving the stick from one extreme to the other there is a noticable klunkyness to it. The base however is weighed enough and wide enough so it doesnt tilt.

Summary: If you are a beginner you should be thrilled with it. (It's nice not having to wrestle with a mouse to out maneuver the enemy.) But, like somebody has already said, it's not something for the seasoned stick users.

Find helpful customer reviews and review ratings for Logitech Attack 3 Joystick

As the title explains, this is primarily used for simple games such Microsoft's Flight Simulator Series, and I have never had a problem with it on my CPU. Most of the problems come from a CPU not being able to handle the strain of USB devices, which is why USB is not recommended for gaming devices unless there isn't anything else, but for easy going games such as simple flying games with no crazy dogfighting or anything else, this is a great buy. All calibration issues can be solved by calibrating the joystick once a week, even if it doesn't need it. Even though its not stated anywhere, I've done it out of habit and none of the joysticks I've had has been messed up.

But the joystick also lacks a rudder feature which can actually be a problem. That is the one of the two flaws I can find in it. The other is that it doesn't have a 360 degree turning so you have to use the keyboard to switch views.

Pretty boring honestly. The game itself isnt that fun to play, it's ok but it's weak. The races are short for the most part and the driving is ok a camera stays focused on your car through turns which is cool but NO WAY this game is worth $60. Breakdown

Graphics-9.5 awesome graphics but unfortunately this is the best part of the game

Replayability-4 there are challenges to unlock cars an other things but nothing major

Physics (mechanics)2 it doesn't feel like you are driving the car, even when you choose the view to race from within the car there isn't even a steering wheel or nothing just looking at the road, this isn't the early 2000s

Length1...maybe 5 hours tops?? Really?

Enjoyment1 honestly it's pretty boring, it didn't make me want to play this game at all

I love NFS, mostly the older ones but I did enjoy hot pursuit but this game just doesn't appeal

Do yourself a favor, RENT before you buy. Trust me you will understand why after you rent it

Overall the game is just overall weak minus the beautiful graphics but thats it. If you are looking for a new game for xbox pick up Skyrim, Saints row 3, Battlefield 3, Mw3, Gears of War 3, Batman Arkham City, Sonic Generations even Forza 4, but not The Run. I'm not hating on this game it just doesn't being much too the table races too short an the little bit of excitement you'll have playing this game quickly vanishes.

Hope this helps

This game is good, but there are a lot of people I know will be disappointed with it. All the races seem the same, just on a different stretch of track. Personally, I don't mind because I can sit and play a game for hours, not caring whether I do good or bad, or what's even going on in the game. The graphics are very nice, and they used the "Frostbite 2" engine, for those who don't know, which was used for Battlefield 3. The actual story behind the game isn't bad as well.

Overall, the game will keep you busy for at least one play through the game, and if you're interested, for some races online as well.

EDIT: It feels like it's sort of moving away from what NFS used to be. As far as I've played the game, I haven't come across any "lap" type of races, it's all get from point A to point B in an expensive sports car. I miss the street/drag racing kind of thing.

EDIT #2: I'm finding myself to rage quiting while playing this game quite a bit. It seems like there's always a car in the same lane that I can't see just over that hill. It seems like the obstacles in this game are too easy to predict. Once again, I miss the old street/drag racing type of style. This feels a lot more like a simulator than an arcade racer. [Edit: it seems they have have patched it since I originally posted the review. I don't run into those cars nearly as much anymore]

This game is amazing. It has the feel of a great action movie. Before I bought this game, I was kind of skeptical because of some the mediocre reviews it had received. I decided to get it anyway and I am so happy I did. I think it is a must have for anybody who is a fan of arcade racing games.

Honest reviews on Need for Speed: The Run - Xbox 360

This game is utter trash. It's NFS all over again. Nothing new... except terrible game play mechanics.

Out-of-Bounds

The cars now must stay within the confines of the game's "invisible out-of-bounds" rules. The animated holographic boundaries previously found in NFS games that were solid walls are now able to be driven through into out-of-bounds territory. Cross the boundary line... even if you are heading back onto the road and you're automatically reset. And that brings up the next issue.

Resets to Checkpoints

You're allotted only 4 resets per race. After that you start all over again. I don't know what made it worse... the fact you're only alloted 4... or that the reset takes you back to your last checkpoint which could be miles back... OR that the checkpoint may place you in an unplaying position (speeding off the track for another immediate reset)... OR the fact that if you get reset before the first checkpoint, the race starts over anyways but with you having spent a reset. I always just restart the event at that point because why deal with 1 less reset? Which sets us up for another issue.

Load Times

Every reset brings and insanely long load time. Each EVENT brings and insanely long load time. Each event reset brings insanely long load times. It destroys the pacing of the game to the extent that it no longer fun to play. "Need for Speed"? Maybe they were referring to their own "need for speed" in getting the games loading faster.

Duplicating World Scenarios

While the one shining gem of the game is it's graphics and the world that's recreated taking inspiration from places in the USA, you'll find similar situations (track covers, city scapes) will recur if you drive the thing in one go. Streets in Chicago the you drive on while evading the Mob will be the same streets you drive on for the next race leg. Similar road curves (even a shortcut) are also duplicated verbatim from the Chicago area to the "State Forest" stage... just with new textures.

Car Selection

The game makes a big deal out of the cars it offers... but then it specifically mentions you're going to need certain cars in certain scenarios (mountains, street, highways each suggest a different style of car). That's all fine and dandy... but here's the snag. YOU CAN'T CHANGE YOUR CAR! Oh sure, you'll get to choose one at the start... and a couple times in the middle... but other than that you have to pull into a gas station to switch out cars. Gas Stations are located on VERY FEW event maps. Which means you might get to select a car on one event, but the next even you're still stuck with it because there is no gas station on that event's course map and then the car you chose might be all wrong for the event! Too bad... you're still stuck with it. If you're going to make car selection an important part of winning the game... ALLOW US TO PICK A CAR AT THE START OF EACH EVENT!

No Replay Value

The game also has very little replay value. Previous NFS games I've enjoyed exploring the world... or taking out another car and avoiding the cops. This one is just a single path... from San Francisco to New York... and not even all of that. Total playing time for "The Run" itself took around 2 hours (not counting the resets or the load times) and then you've seen it all. Oh sure there are challenges to go back and do... but it's on the same tracks you've already raced on. And the game itself is a challenge enough!

Terrible AI

The computer cars display insanely impossible acceleration and driver recovery capabilities. Think you've just pushed an opponent over the cliff? Guess again. But they can perform the same move and send you flying for... you guessed it... another instant reset. Or think you've passed someone at 190mph? Guess what... they'll go flying by you 2 seconds later without nitrous with you still going 190 but making it look like you were standing still.

Do yourself a favor... and "Run" away before it sucks $60 from your pocket.

After being extremely impressed with Hot Pursuit, I picked up this game thinking it would be a step up from that. Not true.

Don't get me wrong, this is a great game. The graphics are fairly good and overall it's a fun game, but compared to previous NFS games, it's nothing to brag about. Ironically, the aspect of this game that's the most boring and tedious is the running part. At certain points in the game, the police will surround your car and you will be forced to run on foot. In order to jump fences and avoid getting caught, you have to hit certain buttons on the controller. Mess up, and you have to try it again. These feel more like cut-scenes with a little audience participation than any type of challenge. I can understand that the hope was to give the game a little variety so it's not strictly a racing game, but if that was their intent, they should have allowed the player to control where they run and where to hide.

Also, NFS is known for having the police in the game. Sadly, the cops are only a small part of this game and many races won't even include them. This may not bother you, but if you're buying a game in the NFS series, chances are, you'll be missing that.

The game does have a lot going for it. Visually the game looks good and the selection of cars is nice and grows as the game progresses. The storyline is a nice element in a racing game, but it's referenced so infrequently that you'll often forget about it. Plus, you goal in each leg of the race is usually to just progress a few spots, so you'll wonder why you needed the story at all.

Overall, the game is still a lot of fun and I have a feeling that most of the negative reviews are from those who just expected more from the NFS series and were a little let down. But used for a few bucks, it might be worth it.

Though it suffered a number of release delays and with the dreaded fact that it is a licensed video game, The X-Files: Resist or Serve is a surprisingly good game, even though it draws many comparisons to various Resident Evil games because of it's presentation. While it suffers from graphical glitches and a few gameplay and control issues, Resist or Serve still shines thanks to it's mix of survival horror and puzzle elements. Playing as FBI Agents Fox Mulder and Dana Scully; you investigate a series of bizarre and brutal murders in the town of Red Falls, Colorado. The game's story is written by veteran X-Files show writers, so the game's story plays out much like the lost episode that it is claimed to be. Mulder's story is more action oriented as you take on hordes of zombie-ish creatures, while Scully's story is puzzle oriented as you combine various toxins and perform autopsies. The puzzle elements are a nice diversion than the usual "find the key to open the door" type puzzles that are populated throughout other games of the genre, and that alone is refreshing. The character models of Mulder, Scully, A.D. Skinner, the Lone Gunmen, Alex Krycek, and the Cancer Man are nicely rendered so that each character resembles their series counterpart, but the character movement comes off as wooden. The sound of the game is where Resist or Serve shines as each actor reprises their role (thats right, David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson are on board as Mulder and Scully) and the music recycles various episode scores and sounds brilliant. All in all, The X-Files: Resist or Serve is a surprisingly good game that any and every X-Files fan should check out.

Fabulous that they were able to get the stars to agree to do the voices for the Game! This game isn't perfect, but for me it was just what I was looking for in a new game. It had a little Resident Evil(Zombies), Silent Hill (Eerie Surroundings) and then the X-files storyline! After I got used to the controls and what the game was about I was hooked. The main complaint for me was it wasn't longer! If they do a sequel I will have it on preorder as soon as I hear about it.

It has the bit of mystery of the X-files but is basically a combo game with shooting/puzzles and even a few Autopsy's thrown in. They really have a place to go with this game if they choose to.

I know that doesn't answer all your questions about the game, but it's worth trying. If you don't want to buy it check it out at your rental store.

First of all, I am not a huge gamer and am at times horrible at them. However, I am a huge fan of The X-Files TV show and searched all over local video game stores to find a copy of this game. It was worth it. I ended up playing this game for 10 hours. There are some things you should know.

First, this game has been designed with the X-Files fan in mind. They brought in all of the cast members to do voice work. The storyline is engaging, entertaining and is a total mythology episode. There is a lot of animated sequences in this game, where all you can do is sit and watch the story progress. Just like a epsode of the show! The music, theme song, and sound effects are all from the TV show. It's great!

Secondly, while the emphasis was on the fans of the TV show, die hard gamers might get a little annoyed with this game. Playing this game, the camera angles will change on you and of instead of seeing Mulder or Scully's point of view from the back, you see them from the front and your reaction will be to change your direction with the controller. Don't! It is aggravating, but you'll get used to it.

Also, there are many doors that will not open, so your reaction will be to search everywhere for keys, but you should know that not all the doors are meant to be opened. Also, look at Mulder or Scully's notebook frequently to get clues to the game.

Also, and it might not be kosher to say this, but if you get stuck with the game and aren't a big gamer like myself, there are a number of websites with cheat codes and game play hints.

If you go into this game with the idea that it was designed with fans of the TV show in mind, you will have an excellent experience with this game. It's just like the show!

Honest reviews on X-Files: Resist or Serve - PlayStation 2

This game is *really* creepy, and interesting to follow even for non-X-Philers! If you have the episodes on DVD, a must is to review the episodes "Tunguska" and "Terma", as you will hit all the characters, and heck, your X-File has to do with an incident in Tunguska, Russia.

There's lots of inside jokes for the fans, I'm not even finished with the first episode, but I've noticed "Lazarus street", the beer bottles have the betty tattoo from "Never Again" on them, the soda machine from the movie is in the garage stop, and going into the "Adult" section of the video store when you're Mulder is a must...

On the main menu there's a really cool (but long) "intro" which is a bunch of X-Files moments set to a Mark Snow tune. Really awesome.

This game is really awesome. If you've played Resident Evil then you will have the buttons down in no time.

It's true. Movie/TV-Show tie in games really can work. And this one does perfectly.

From the opening CGI teaser to the X-Files opening credits, you know you are about to play something special.

The best way to describe X-Files Resist or Serve, is Silent Hill with your favorite TV characters thrown in. But don't let that put you off. The game is scary. I mean, really scary. The music adds an awesome atmosphere to the game and the graphics are impressive.

All the horror, humor and suspense from the series, are included in this game.

The only negative comment I would make on the game is weapon control. I found it hard to shoot at my attackers before they were bearing down on me and biting my neck. But then, I find it hard to have good control when I'm jumping so much and panicking so maybe it's just me.

The game contains two paths that you can take and this is decided by choosing either Mulder or Scully as the character you wish to be. So, you have two games in one.

X-Files fans, you have to have this game.

For those that aren't fans of the series but like scary games such as Silent Hill and the drawn out franchise, Resident Evil, this is definitely one for the collection.

Be warned, I can't put this game down for hours. I just have to keep searching for the truth.

I wasn't expecting a lot out of Fighter Within, and although it isn't awesome it is better than I expected. I can throw fast punches and it will recognize that (Wii and older kinect never would). Kicks work well too. I can reliably cover/block as well. As I learn more advanced combos my opinion may go up. It is quite a workout to play this one!

Pretty amazing game! Fun with Kinect! This is not the most accurate kinect game, but it is fun, especially when you play it with your friends! could be a really fun time!

This game really gets your heart pumping. Just like in other motion based games you need to make sure that you stand far enough away from the sensor. The graphics are pretty good, and the only problem is sometimes its a little slow to react to your punches and kicks. In single player there is a duel mode, and arcade mode. Now it doesn't have xbox live multiplayer, but it does have local, and it's always good to have a fun multiplayer game to play with friends. Bottom line Fighter Within is a good game, but you do run out of breath fast.

Honest reviews on Fighter Within

This game surprised me. I only pre-ordered one game (Forza) and I wanted to download something else for some variety. I chose this because it is very different and is a Kinect game. The story mode teaches you all the moves. The Kinect does not always pick up my moves accurately, but I'm getting better at making my fighter do what I want him to do. It is pretty impressive since this is one of the first games using Kinect 2.

Tron: Evolution is one of the best video games based on a licensed property I've ever played. Let's face it, games based on movies are usually rushed, ill-funded and just plain sloppy. But the developers of T:E clearly put a ton more effort into the game than the usual licensed game gets.

Graphics:

Everything in the game is rendered beautifully. There's a lush, slick quality to the game. As you're running along smooth streets of glass atop of patterned stone-like pieces you'll see your reflection. The glowing lines of light on your costume cast light on the scenery around you. Your helmet and suit reflect the world around you. If you like the look of the world of Tron as it's presented in Legacy you'll love the look of this game. Each new level provides it's own distinct look and color scheme and all are striking. It's not really a game set-up for sight-seeing but I couldn't help stopping now and again to look at the view. It's amazing to be on a ledge in Tron City and look down at the people milling about, or being on a bomb conveyance system in Clu's warship and gazing down at the Recognizer docking bay.

The cut-scenes are not as strong graphically. The character modeling on some of the human faces leaves a lot to be desired, but it's not a train-wreck and the dialogue is well acted.

Gameplay:

Story-mode is relatively short maybe about 8 or so hours altogether if you play straight through (I don't recommend that, however, more on that later) and consists of using parkour-style moves (running along walls, extreme jumps, etc) to get to certain room. The room locks up and then you have to fight and kill a group of enemies or figure out how to navigate to certain buttons to unlock the room before you proceed on, derezzing enemies along the way. There are also short sections of light-cycle riding. There are a ton of combo moves as well as some special disc powers you'll accumulate along the way to keep the fighting from becoming repetitive. I found battles a lot of fun. You recharge your special power energy and health by jumping over objects or running up walls on energy strips so this encourages you to constantly be in motion. The AI on the enemies is pretty good when you're near them, but they are kind of pokey to follow you if you run away, which is a good thing when you're low on health. Though they usually will catch up with you so don't dawdle too much. The parkour movement takes some getting used to especially when the camera shifts so you can clearly see your path but once you catch on it's simple and rewarding to chain moves together and move through the world.

Storyline

The story is fairly straightforward. There's not a lot of depth here, but enough to keep the story moving along and make you want to find out what happens next. Because this is a prequel the ending ends up being rather dark, which is kind of refreshing in a way.

Multi-player

Multi-player mode is one of the best things about the game. I don't know how it'll do long-term, but in the short term it's a ton of fun and quite busy. There are many maps to choose from, and if you buy the game new, you get even more maps then what is included on the disc by entering a code. There are maps where you play as your character and there are also maps where you can activate your light cycle or even get into a Light Tank. There are a few different kinds of games you can play. Some emphasize just derezzing as many people as possible but others require more strategy by capturing power nodes or "capturing a bit" and trying to keep it away from other players.

Final Verdict

If you go into this expecting a game on the level of some of the big studio releases like Mass Effect, Assassins Creed or games of that caliber you'll be disappointed. These sort of games do not have that sort of budget or timeline. But if you want a fun action game with a great look and an enjoyable multi-player and ESPECIALLY if you're a fan of Tron you'll definitely enjoy this game.

Click Here For Most Helpful Customer Reviews >>

I bought this game with realistic expectationsA) It's a movie license... 'nuff said. B) It's made by the developer that did the recent Turok reboot... yeesh. So I am not surprised that Tron Evolution isn't exactly Game of the Year material. There was no way I wasn't going to play it, as I've been a Tron-tard since the first movie came out, I've been waiting for the new movie for almost 30 years, and this game is a bridge between them, plugging into both.

The overall issue is that the game play lacks polish. The combat boils down to a familiar forumlaas you progress, you acquire different types of disc weapons, which are selected on the fly via the D-pad. When you encounter a new type of enemy, a little analysis window pops up which notes its weakness, i.e. which disc is best used against it. So far so good, but then the system falls apart. Enemies generally aren't particularly distinctive in appearance, so it's not easy to know which disc you should be using against them. And there is no 'target lock' ability, you simply attack whichever enemy happens to be "more or less directly in front of you" at any given moment. When you're fighting multiple enemy types at once, endeavoring to use the right disc against the right enemy isn't worth the hassle. "Whatever, the Bomb disc will kill everything... eventually." Another pillar of game play is free-running/parkour. Most of the time it gets the job done, but it could have used more fine tuning. Coming on the heels of Assassin's Creed Brotherhood, it really feels twitchy and stiff. Finally there are vehicle based segments, so far I've used the Light Cycle and the Tank. Neither was especially fun.

If I wasn't such a big Tron freak or if this game had nothing to do with Tron, I probably never would have bothered with it. As it stands, the flawed game play is decent enough that I'll probably play to completion. The visual design is great, though some of the character models seem outdated vis a vis faces and facial animation. (no pun intended) The environments strike a great balance between hearkening back to the original Tron and also being similar to the look of Tron Legacy. I also really like a lot of the sound effects. But all in all, if I was going to recommend a Tron game, it would still be Tron 2.0, the PC game from 2003.

Best Deals for TRON: Evolution - Xbox 360

Most of the gameplay in "Tron Evolution" is lifted wholesale from "Prince of Persia" (2008). The unfortunate thing is, Tron does not bring over the level of design care, camera tuning, and general polish which PoP 2008 enjoyed.

There is also a subtle but important difference in how player-failure is handled, between PoP's "rescued in time by Elika" presentation and Tron's "De-Rez/Re-Install" presentation. The latter feels much more punishing, and increases a player's stress.

Tron does feature vehicle sequences, which are quite rudimentary and unsatisfying. The initial lightcycle run features no time for familiarization before requiring quick turn reactions -andacceleration to deal with a massive jump.

Overall, the game is quite pretty, and re-creates the world of Tron from the recent movie. This is diminished somewhat by in-game cinematics which are muddy and unsaturated compared to the game's own visuals. The audio is busy, but effective.

If you want to enjoy this type of gameplay, consider buying Prince of Persia. If you want to experience Tron as a player, find the old coin-op machine and go to town.

Honest reviews on TRON: Evolution - Xbox 360

I have really fallen into the Tron universe since the new movie came out last winter. I think that the concept is terrific and as far as sci-fi goes, it has a really beleivable world with physics and weight to it. This game is a good suppliment to that. The graphics and rendings are great, you get to run around in this gorgeous world that looks and feels real. The game play is fun with a combination of acrobatic aireal tricks and dynamic combat. Good game.

Find helpful customer reviews and review ratings for TRON: Evolution - Xbox 360

A prequel to the movie TRON: LEGACY, TRON: EVOLUTION is a gloriously rendered game that examines in detail the events that led to Clu's rise in the world of the Grid. In the game you play Monitor, a program created by Flynn to investigate the death of the leader of the ISOs. Not long after that, a virus named Abraxas appears and begins causing havoc. In addition, Monitor witnesses the supposed deaths of Flynn and Tron by Clu. Monitor joins forces with a mysterious program named Quorra and through their joint efforts they warn the programs of the grid of Clu's true actions.

The overall gameplay of TRON: EVOLUTION is mostly as a platform game intermixed with a bit of 3rd person combat. There are some racing elements in the light cycle segments. There are also a few times where you get to drive a tank. The tanks were a bit difficult to drive, but overall these segments were some of the most enjoyable because they reminded me of old-school Atari games.

During gameplay, the graphics in TRON: EVOLUTION are extraordinary. The developers have done a remarkable job of capturing the computer world of the TRON movies. There are moments as Monitor is running along or jumping from building to building that you can see his reflection upon the sheen of the structures he is around. The voice acting is also well done and the score is exceptional.

On the negative side, the cut scenes aren't very impressive. Some of the characters, such as Clu and Flynn, aren't rendered very well. They seem out of place with some of the better rendered characters, such as Quorra and Monitor.

The storyline isn't incredibly long, but it takes longer to play through because of the very touchy game control. Running along walls and jumping incredible heights is exciting, but it gets tedious after awhile when you keep repeating the same little segment over and over and over and over because you can't jump over at the right moment. When running from place to place and jumping from object to object, you have to not only use the right buttons and have your character advancing in the proper direction, but you have to use the camera angle control to be looking in the proper direction, too. The game automatically saves quite frequently, which is a bonus so you don't have to keep repeating the same lengthy sequence over and over.

There are more than enough places to recharge your health and special combo attacks. However, in order to recharge your health you have to run up or along certain walls and to recharge the special combo attacks, you have to jump over control boards or lighted trashcans. When fighting a large number of enemies, this becomes tiresome and causes fighting sequences to last longer than they should.

I was a little disappointed by how little the light cycles are used in the story mode. Not only that, but when they are used it isn't very effectively. The light cycles are one of the things that really stood out in the original movie and were what made the original TRON arcade game so difficult. Instead of incorporating their uniqueness, they simply become a vehicle to move the characters from point A to point B.

There are some multi-player elements that is typical of most multi-player elements: a game where you derezz as many programs as you can in a certain amount of time, a capture the flag type game, and a game that's kind of like king of the mountain. There are some games with the light cycle and tank, but neither one of these is used as much as it should.

Overall, even though I got frustrated at certain points and was disappointed by how much of a platform game TRON:EVOLUTION was, I enjoyed it. However, I'm a fan of the original movie and I rented the game and didn't purchase it. Die hard fans are going to want to purchase the game. I'd recommend waiting for a little while until the price comes down and then buying it. For casual fans who wish to own it, I'd say the same. As for other gamers or just someone who is interested in the game, it's best as a rental and not a purchase.

If you like Metallica you are going to love this game. You get MOST of Metallica's best songs and can play them on guitar, bass, drums, or sing them on the mic. The career mode is improved over World Tour. You no longer have to play a whole set at one time to unlock the next. You have to get a certain amount of stars to unlock the next, but all the sets are so awesome you are going to want to play them anyway. There are several new features such as Metallifacts which is basically the band playing a song and it giving little VH1 style tidbits about the song while it is playing. The note charts seem to be better than on World Tour as well. There are also little improvement to the interface as well, but let's face it....a guitar hero game is only as good as it's soundtrack. If you don't like metal you probably won't like this game. If you do you are in for a treat with songs such as: Master of Puppets, Enter Sandman, Fade to Black, One, Dyer's Eve, Battery, Hit the Lights, Nothing Else Matters, One, King Nothing, Seek and Destroy, For Whom the Bell Tolls, etc. Not to mention the other bands in the game: Slayer, Alice in Chains, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Machine Head, System of Down and others. It's quite exciting listening to the Ecstacy of Gold as Metallica comes on stage and then rocking out to For Whom the Bell Tolls. So if you are a Metallica fan you have to pick this one up, even if you aren't and you just like a good guitar hero challenge this one should keep you busy for awhile.

Guitar Hero: Metallica was one of my most anticipated video games of 2009 and it didn't disappoint. After this many games, I think I should summarize the series in a paragraph. GHII was an amazing game even if it didn't have the best soundtrack because the game play overshadowed it. This was the last official GH made by Harmonix. GHIII was a great game and was the last GH I was satisfied with. It only had a few minor issues such as easy hammer-ons/pull-offs and over charted songs. GH: Aerosmith was just plain boring and was a simple cash in. GH: World Tour, they started getting better at charting, however, the set list ruined that game. Guitar Hero: Metallica is the first game where Neversoft got everything right. They nailed it.

Let me start off saying that this is, like I said in the title, possibly the best GH out of all of them and I don't know if they'll ever be able to top it. GHM follows GHWT's formula, meaning that bass, drums, and vocals are back. Drums have a new difficulty, Expert+, that uses another bass pedal. I haven't really played any career except guitar, which is ten times more fun than GHWT's guitar career. I do know that the vocals are fixed since they were broken in GHWT. In battle mode, there are a few new additions, "Ride the Lightning", which is designed after "Amp Overload", and "Fade to Black", which blacks out your note chart. There were only a few songs I didn't find fun, while literally half of GHWT wasn't fun. I know that I'm mentioning GHWT a lot in this review, but its because it disappointed me so much and its hard to believe this was made by the same company. GHM has gotten me back into GH after two big disappointments. If you're a fan of Metallica or have been waiting for another good GH, buy this now. This is also a good start if you're new to the series.

It was about we had a game like this, where the set list is made up of great music. RockBand was cool and all, but having to play through songs by Creed, Offspring, and the like, was just way too painful.

GH Metallica Rocks!! Mercyful Fate, Slayer, Suicidal Tendencies, Queen, Machine Head, and of course, a lot of Metallica!!

Playing drums on Expert+ is awesome! We need more of that. Maybe a Guitar Hero "Metal" edition, or something like that, where we'd only get bands such as Nevermore, Black Sabbath, Testament, Megadeth, etc.

Here's the reason why I didn't give this title 5 stars:

* Some songs on the set list could have been replaced. For instance, they could have chosen a heavier song by Alice In Chains (such as Them Bones, Would, etc.). Or even Metallica songs like the ones from Load and Reload could have been dropped in anything else from the first 4 albums.

* The "practice mode" is pretty lame: you play the section once, and then the thing just stops. Why not loop through it like RockBand does?? Am I missing something here?

But again, other than that, this title rocks! I've been playing mostly the drums, but have done quite a bit on vocals, and have just started doing the guitar as well. Can't have enough of it. :)

Honest reviews on Guitar Hero Metallica - Xbox 360

Since Rockband has come out the GH series has suffered with mediocre offerings like Guitar Heo: Aerosmith and World Tour. Being a Metallica fan I was doubtful this game would be any good and certainly another flop in the GH track recrod.

Not the case... at all.

It's hard to describe but GH-Metallica FEELS like the GH1-2 on the PS2. Again hard to describe. The actual GH expierience is fun again.

All of the Metallica tracks are superb. The other bands featured meh, mostly one time through and you won't replay them. If you know the tunes and are a fan you will get into the playing aspect. My fiance and I were banging our heads through "King Nothing" and really getting into "Nothing Else Matters." The songs are challenging but fun to play on the hard difficulty level. Some songs like "Battery" seem near impossible on expert... as it well should :)

The visuals are great! Metallica is done justic in the GH style. If you've ever seen them live you will notice the mannerisms/gestures of each band member.

Character creation is lack luster and not really worth your time. GH has a ways to go to catch up with Rockband on that one.

If you're fan of the plastic guitar and Metallica it's worth the $60. Regardless of your views of Metallica they have put the fun factor back into a faltering franchise.

Try before you buy though; the demo is out on Xbox Live featuring "Sad But True."

I'm a big fan of the Guitar Hero video games, always have been ever since the first one was released on the PS2 over 3 years ago. All of them have been excellent in my opinion, but last fall saw the release of "Guitar Hero: World Tour" and it was the best one at that point. It had way more songs, the graphics were far superior to previous titles, all the songs were the original versions, there was a create-a-character function, and you could now sing and play drums as well.

Well, imagine all of those awesome features, but with Metallica at the center of it all. Buying this game was a no-brainer for me, because Guitar Hero just happens to be one of my favorite video game series right now and Metallica just happens to be one of my 2 favorite bands of all time. But that doesn't automatically make the game good. I remember I was somewhat disappointed with last year's "Guitar Hero: Aerosmith." I'm an Aerosmith fan, and it was great to have more songs to play, but I found the setlist kinda weak, the game was kinda short, and the graphics now seem subpar compared to "World Tour." But when I first popped in GH Metallica a few days ago, I was instantly blown away. The graphics are stunning, the Metallica avatars are incredibly accurate, and the audience looks awesome! Then, you've got 28 awesome Metallica songs to choose from. That's a winner right there, but they did a very nice job with the song choices. This game still has the same create-a-character option as in "World Tour," and you're still able to sing and play drums in addition to guitar and bass. Some cool new features include the ability to change the difficulty setting in the middle of the song, and you're also now able to get more star power while you're already using it. In addition to the Metallica tunes, you also have 21 songs to choose from by artists who are friends and influences of the band. There are also many more neat little surprises in the game, for example, being able to give your character a variety of different Metallica shirts (many of which I own in real life). You can also unlock James and Kirk's signature guitars and a few bonus characters. If you previously downloaded all the "Death Magnetic" songs, they will unlock on this game after you've finished it. I gotta say, I think this may be the best Guitar Hero game so far...not just because of the music, but the technical features as well. If you have different game systems, I think the X-Box 360 version is the only way to go. The look and feel of the game is obviously far superior to the Wii, and the PS3 is a pretty worthless system. With the incredible success of Metallica's latest album "Death Magnetic," their upcoming induction into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, and the release of this incredibly awesome game, I'd say Metallica is back to being the biggest metal band in the world.

As a Vita owner, it's been sometimes painful to stick up for the system. Honestly, considering how dire the system seems at certain points, there are times where I hardly ever touch my Vita, perhaps even for months at a time. Thankfully, the release of Tearaway is making sure my Vita will be used in the coming weeks. We are miles away from a library of classics for the Vita, but Tearaway is certainly a bright spot in the Vita library so far. Media Molecule once again has struck something special, and this time it's for Vita owners. If you had any passing interest in this game beforehand, Tearaway is absolutely worth playing.

So what is Tearaway? Built from the ground up, Tearaway takes advantage of the Vita's many unique capabilities (Rear Touch Pad, Camera, Touchscreen, Microphone, Gyroscope), warping them seamlessly into a truly unique platformer. Throughout the game's single player mode, you'll use everything at your disposal to navigate through various worlds, alternatively platforming through a brilliantly realized world. You play as one of two playable characters, off to deliver a message to the player outside of the game, YOU. Yes, you are one of the stars of the game. As you (literately) stare down on your messenger, you'll be defeating monsters, helping merge your world with Tearaway's own, creation and your imagination will constantly be on fire. Rest assured, everything about this game makes it easily one of the best games for the Vita yet.

This being a Media Molecule game, I'm pretty sure there is some about how the game succeeds on a visual and audio level, and it's amazingly successful. True to its theme, Tearaway's paper theme comes into full fruition, as the game uses its theme to construct a brilliantly imaginative world that resembles a children's book come to life. From the environments, the to the beings that you come across; it's all heartfelt, and its all Really, you really need to look no further than what has been shown in the media; it's like what happens if the world's most creative elementary school art class was given the tools to create a world that spoke to them. it's a delight to behold, and it would take a hardened soul not to be charmed by it (even my mother loved it, and she hates most video games).

Also being of excellent note is the entire universe Media Molecule has crafted with Tearaway. There isn't much of a story like Littlebigplanet, but much like the aforementioned game there is a certain charm to the characters, locations, and overall mood and aesthetic of Tearaway. With so many games trying to be "gritty", "realistic", "mature", or otherwise "darker and edgy", it's nice to see something as charming as this come along. By the first ten minutes of the game, I was already in love with it. Of course, rounding out the package is the great soundtrack, which helps bring the universe to life. Sound effects follows suit, and the sound design is very effective and fits the game like a glove.

Of course, the gameplay here is as much of a draw to the game as much as the imaginative aspects dreamed up by Media Molecule, and once again it's refreshing, imaginative, and quite ingenious. True to its theme, Tearaway is a platformer that bases its mechanics around Paper itself, with another main gameplay motif being the way your universe is in touch with the universe of Tearaway. With the use of regular controls and a myriad of special Vita features, you'll be guiding your character throughout the world, defeating monsters, helping friendly figures, and much more; all with some interesting and well implemented controls that take advantage of everything the Vita could offer control wise, even spilling over to the creative aspect of the game as well. it doesn't run out of surprises or it never fails to keep you wondering what next will be revealed, and it never feel like a chore because everything around you is extremely engaging.

Truth to be told, the game is pretty easy from start to finish, as it really isn't a game that provides a traditional gaming challenge. Instead, I would say Tearaway's spirit lies in games like Journey, The Unfinished Swan, and others in the same vein; the experience of the game and the player interaction is what truly makes it special. Tearaway's main draw is not much challenge and gameplay depth, but how it uses the Vita to essentially link the two universes together to make the already interesting single player even better. Whenever one is engaging throughout the game with enemies, friends, kings, the environment, and anything else in between, the true appeal comes from extrapolating the experience yourself and essentially making everything feel as real as possible. Few games I think of that have made me feel quite a bond between the game, and Tearaway is one of them.

Tearaway truly does let you express yourself creatively, which alongside the sheer joy of playing the game is its true strength. Depending on how artistic you are, you can collect confetti to unlock millions of unique little accessories, camera filters, and other such things to further provide a creative and unique way of manipulating the world so that you desire. Even better, you can even bring your own works from the game into your own; print out models to construct your own craft-able items. If you're so inclined and creative enough, you can probably even construct your own Tearaway world. Rounding it out, the online component let's you share your own creations, as well as view what the community has chose to share as well.face

All in all though, there is just too many little things that I noticed that made the game for me, not to mention that this is definitely one of those games where you need to I really do think this is one of the most refreshing and joyous games I've played since Journey. Ultimately, I think that this game is so unique that you simply just need to try it yourself. Rest assured, the experience is absolutely worth taking, and its refreshing from beginning to end.

As a Vita owner, I can safely say that this game has made me all the more interested in my Vita. For me personally, Tearaway easily is the best handheld game I've played all this year, and overall a big bolster for the Vita's overall library regardless of personal preference. The Vita still needs a ton of work until it can be called a viable platform (sadly), but Tearaway assuredly is sending the Vita's library in the right direction; more developers need to follow suit and see what a talented developer can do with a system like the Vita. Rest assured, if you were interested in this game and you own a Vita (both of those), pick it up. You won't regret purchasing it.

I always wanted to like LittleBig Planet, and as the product listing specifies, Tearaway is from the makers of that series. Something kept me from getting into LBP, despite my multiple attempts, though I can say that I am not experiencing the same pushback from Tearaway.

Like LittleBig Planet, Tearaway is a game that lives outside the box, requiring players of all ages to engage in many ways, not merely by hacking, slashing, and button-pushing. A significant part of the game play requires use of the rear and front touch panels, as well as pausing the game action for the player to make items from virtual construction paper to decorate various characters and other things along the journey. Many decorations are included, but if something isn't, just make it. These decorations work much like LBP's stamps, and can also be used to redecorate one's own character.

Other fun parts of the game include taking photos of plants, animals, and mummers (the people of the world in which the game takes place), and optionally uploading them to share on the Tearaway site, Facebook, and Twitter. Some specific photos even unlock paper craft projects that can be downloaded to print and construct. It may not be edutainment exactly, but it's one way for parents and their kids to spend more time together.

Game play isn't especially difficult, and the game is very forgiving when it comes to players who aren't the most adept at defeating the baddies. If you realize that you've missed something important, it is easy to go back and replay a chapter to get it, if your goal is 100% completion rather than simply finishing the game. However you choose to play, you will find this an unusual, unique, and highly entertaining game that is fun and appropriate for the entire family, from the hardcore gamers to the grandparents to the young kids.

Without a doubt, this is the best game available for the Playstation Vita. Why you might ask? It's quite simple, the folks over at Media Molecule (those responsible for Little Big Planet on the PS3) have created such a creative and color world intermixed with some great platforming gameplay and unique use of some of Vita's hardware features.

Let me assure you that in no way do the use of the rear touch pads or cameras feel like a "gimmick" in this game. In fact, it's quite the opposite, as each of the unique features (touch pads, cameras, tilt, etc) help transform the world/levels as you explore. Can't reach certain areas, well bounce your fingers on the rear touchpad to catapult your character into the air. See something cool? Take out your camera (and the awesome array of filters and lenses) and take a snapshot, or if feeling bored, take a selfie!

Want to customize your character to look however you want? No problem, you can do that too! In fact, I created my very own "Ryo Hazuki" costume for my messenger to wear. It's awesome. What other game allows you to do that? I can't think of any.

The level of customization, and the overall theme of just being creative and creating whatever you want is such a pleasure to play and experience. I didn't want this game to end, and thankfully (I've completed the story once so far) I can go back and relive each level collecting more items and snapping more pictures to expand the world even more. I waited over a year for this game upon first hearing about it, and I'm happy to say it was well worth the wait. So much in fact, this game might actually challenge Bioshock or Puppeteer for my personal GOTY.

If you have a Vita, this is a MUST own. No ifs, ands, or butts.

This is a fun game and more challenging than DDR. BUT if you try buying this game thinking it will work on your 360, think again. The game will play but the dance mat will not connect to the 360 due to the change in controller connection. Not the games fault, which is why I didn't mark it down.

This review is from the perspective of a player who is not a hardcore collector of the figures who must collect them all.

Basically all a lightcore has to offer is the following:

1. New Pose

2. Lightcore effect(it lights up on the Portal)

3. Has the light glow in game where the light is on the figure(Giants only not first game).

4. An in game AoE screen clearing attack upon entry when placed on the Portal(usable once per level, I heard it does 100 dmg per enemy but I'm uncertain I'll have to test it out).

5. Cost $2+ more than the non-lightcore versions.

This is basically the same in game Drobot as the S1 version except it has a tiny light on his back that is quite disappointing, and he has a screen clearing lightcore effect that can be used once per stage. The only way you can see the single light on his back is if you face it backwards on the POP. The could have done so much more with this lightcore like at least make his eye's light up but they did not. There are video's on youtube that show how disappointing the light up effect is on Drobot.

There is no Wow-pow and no switchable paths on the Lightcores. This is not a problem for the new characters: Jet Vac, Chill, Pop Fizz, and Shroom Boom, but for the characters from the original Skylanders who also have S2 versions with wow-pows it makes this lightcore only desirable for the collector or someone who really loves Drobot. Had I known the light on the Drobot lightcore was so disappointing I would have skipped him for the S2 version.

Also the packaging is misleading..the lightcore reposes: Drobot, Hex, Prism Break, and Eruptor all work on the original game the same as the S1 versions. It's the newer lightcores to Giants that do not work on the first game.
