This is a great deal for all these modes/add ons for this price, which is definite plus I've seen these same add ons for well over $250!. Also the design & mod functions were as advertised, professional packaging. I love the fact that my controller is backed by a 1 yr warranty, there are other companies that don't even offer any, so you know you're not getting a piece of trash. Once again my favorite thing about this controller is the design this thing is sick! all i need is a case to put it in lol...take a look at the pics Ive posted, another fav is the drop shot/rapid fire.

I did my research and GENIUSMODS is the way to go.

I highly recommend this product and I will be ordering again!!!

This controller is very solid it feels great. The thumb sticks fell good. The controller is solidly put together. Mods work great. I did at first get the wrong controller which was the ps3 version of the controller but the customer service was great and with a few emails I received the right controller. Also just to let u know if u feel mixed emotions on modded controllers these controllers have a warranty. This company is also well put together because they have their own box the controller comes in and it looks like you bought it out of a store. If i

This controller is for CHEATERS! My friend bought this controller because he was tired of losing in online FPS games. Now, he's sitting in corners and simply holding the trigger, getting kill after kill. This controller proves you have NO SKILL at FPS games! This controller is UNFAIR, and is BANNED in tournaments! It's just as bad as modding the game itself! You're CHEATING if you use this controller!

Im a longtime fan of shmups. R-Type, Gradius V and U.N. Squadron, 1943 and the more recent DeathSmiles and Akai Katana are some of my faves. After months of procrastinating I finally caved and bought this game. What a disappointment. Here's why:

1) In every shooter one of the most important things is to make sure the player can tell the difference in foreground/backgrond graphics, as well as being able to clearly see enemy bullets. OE does an amazing job of ruining that conceptobjects that look like youll crash into you'll go right through and vise versa, and enemy bullets are so hard to see against the bright backgrounds its impossible to tell whats going on.

2) Unlimited continues from the get-go and bosses that "run-away" after 3 or 4 minutes makes no sense. I just beat the game on a 2nd play-through doing this before writing this review. All you have to do is hit Start to continue when needed and you can beat the game just like that.

3) Voice acting. Its fine for some games but this in particular its like they got some 10 year old girl with the highest pitched voice to squeak out dialogue. There is a TON of chatter throughout the game and it doesn't let up much at all. I turned it all the way down, only to find out that when you die there's no voice going "ahhh!!" anymore, but there's no explosion sound to signify i got hit. Your character just slowwwwwwwwly falls toward you then off-screen to the left.

4)Your main gun shoots two bullets on screen at once. Two bullets. Thats it. Good luck trying to defeat a boss if this ever happens. (Oh wait! Just refer to #2, silly me!).

5)I paid just $12 for the disc (still a rip-off) but apparently there are 25 pieces of paid DLC. Not only that, the paid DLC consists of the usual gamerpics, skins, extra stages, extra characters, and...music tracks?!?! And the music tracks are.....440 points ($5.50). EACH. SERIOUSLY. Go look on xbox.com yourself. This is an insult, especially for such a niche market these days they have to nickel and dime us to death? Hey Konami, you do you think you are? Capcom?

6) There's this odd text bar that resides above your weapon layout, (bottom left of screen). So when certain characters are yabbering in Japanese it scrolls

the English text. Its small and hard to read but most importantly for a game like this its distracting with no option to turn off. Also, for each music track that plays it will show the song title and composer on the bottom right of the screen. Oh, and cant be turned off either.

7)To piggyback on parts of #5 and #6, the music sucks. Especially the boss musicdoesnt fit in at all. Not even in a Parodius kind-of-weird, (that game was actually fun and had some cool tunes though). OE is just blah and boring.

Id give this game zero stars if I could. Please dont make the same mistake I did. Buy DeathSmiles instead. Or DeathSmiles IIX off Games on Demand. Or Akai Katana. Or Espgaluda II. All are for Xbox 360 and are wonderful shoot-em-ups/shmups that are worth your time and money. Not this worthless piece of garbage!

They totally blew it in a bad way. Instead of bringing us a souped-up Gradius or a crazier/zanier Parodius, we get this weird game. Now, I'm not completely against the idea of making more side-scrolling shoot-'em-ups, as they are not as popular as the vertical scrollers, but this one is definitely not representative of what is best about the genre. To add insult to injury, you end up feeling like you bought "part" of the game because of all the damn DLC they tried to shank their customers with: You have to download certain levels, download characters, download this, download that... what a buncha crap. The graphics aren't all that great either, sort of a mix of 2D and 3D I hate 3D and I can't recall the music at all. I wouldn't recommend this game to anyone. I only got it because it was free with "rewards points" from my credit card and I'm a bit of a completist. Am I glad I didn't shell out for the import copy.

Bollocks to your DLC, Konami!

Best Deals for Otomedius Excellent - Xbox 360

Otomedius is a horizontally scrolling shooter which touts itself as the successor to Konami's classic Gradius series. While it shares many of the base gameplay features as this legendary series, it unfortunately suffers many problems which results in a very mediocre experience.

Just to name a few, due to the size of your player character on the screen, it can become extremely difficult to correctly gauge your hitbox, especially on the harder difficulties when the screen is full of projectiles.

While the 2-D artwork which permeates the game is well done, the actual 3D models used within the game itself are very lackluster. This becomes especially apparent during times when the game zooms in during cutscenes.

The multiplayer aspect of the game is also a disappointment. The game does not allow for two people to play together in the normal "Story" mode of the game. Rather, the only way to play with friends is in a specific "Multiplayer" mode, where the second player is not able to gain experience, and no continues are allowed. So, you are completely out of luck if you want to just play the normal game with a friend.

The boss fights in the game can also be a source of frustration. While the bosses are not too difficult, they tend to have an unusually high amount of health, and it is a near impossibility to hit some of their weak points without using certain specific weapons. As a result, many of the weapons available to you are largely worthless, as it is nearly impossible to defeat the bosses using them before you run out of time.

While each of these complaints, when taken alone, are not horrendous faults, the fact that so many minor poor game design choices exist at once just makes the game seem amateurish. If the company behind the game was new, or at least new to making this genre of game, then it could almost be excused. But this game was made by Konami, a company whose experience making shooters stretches back over twenty five years. And while this game so proudly declares its decent from the Gradius series on the cover, the simple fact of the matter is that Gradius V, a game that was released nearly seven years before on an inferior console, completely surpasses Otomedius Excellent in pretty much every possible way.

The game does boast a decent, if not particularly memorable, soundtrack that has a decent amount of songs from classic Konami titles. And the large amount of playable characters, coupled with a copious amount of unlockables, does give it a fair amount of replay value. Trying to obtain all of the weapons in the game will definitely provide plenty of entertainment to fans who enjoy the collection aspect of games. I feel it is important to warn, however, that the game relies quite heavily on the use of paid DLC. In fact, two characters, who were quite prominently displayed in both the promotion of the game as well as the intro movie of the game itself, are only accessible by paying separately for them once you have already purchased the game.

One final important note is that the game's visual aesthetic was very clearly designed to cater entirely to a very specific group of fans. And it is very likely that your enjoyment of the game may drastically increase or decrease based entirely on whether or not you happen to belong to this group. I will say, though, that with the amount of minor problems prevalent throughout this title, one would almost wish that they had spent less time worrying about the visual appeal of the characters, and more on ironing out the actual gameplay.

Honest reviews on Otomedius Excellent - Xbox 360

There's really not much to say about the game except it's alright if you're looking for a classic star fighter 2D game, had a gift card so figured why not and for the price not all bad just not great either.

Don't expect any of the regular gameplay we expect from today's games obviously as all you really do is shoot the enemy fighters until the boss battle at the end of the level though you will give a chuckle or two at some of the voice comments from the characters in the game intentional or not.

If you can get the game under $10 I'd say go for it though even $10 maybe a little much for this game still if you're looking for a classic style of starfighter shooter type games overall it's not too bad.

Super Street Fighter II- Turbo Revival Review

I've seen the Japanese version of the game in action, and the graphics are really A LOT better than they ever where on the SNES! Game Boy Advance has much better 2D capabilities than the SNES does!, I played my SSFII to compare and the graphics on the game boy version are ten times smoother!! And also the intro is breathtaking believe me! I knew the GBA was good but I didn't know it was capable of this!

The game works very well, and has four different settings of speed. It might have a cheat for even faster fighting like sf2turbo did=) who knows. But It's new artwork will blow anyone away! and some of the levels have been changed a little, to look a little flashier. Guile's stage has a harrier flowting in the backround and it's really impressive, as is Chun Li's stage which I think has really improved in my opinion and is beautiful! Zangief's stage is similar, but has a few changes in the backround. Ken's stage is set in a fast paced city with bilboards. I miss the old stages, but the new ones really are amazing and refresh the game for me anyway.

The sound is really nice, nicer with headphones though. Gameplay is of the finest, so much to master and you can ALWAYS get better! plus you have Akuma to master if you can unlock him. The characters are a lot smoother than on the snes, but you'll have to get used to playing with four buttons instead of at least six=( but that's nothing to moan about!, this is as good as it gets believe me and you'll get used to the buttons. The A and B buttons have the low and med kicks and punches squeezed in, so you have to tap the button for a light attack and hold it down a little for a med attack. Then the L and R buttons are of course the high kick and punch and work normally. You can configur the buttons how you want and choose which buttons share attacks. It's a little annoying I admit, but it's still Street Fighter at the bus stop right? how can you go wrong?! I really prefer this to the snes version, because it really is more of a port from the arcade than a port from the snes, and has it's own original artwork too! Buy it! "sonic boom!"

I've long been a fan of the Street Fighter II series on the SNES. When I heard there was going to be a GBA version, I couldn't wait to get my hands on it. And while it's fun to play, it's far from perfect.

First, the good stuff. The graphics are nice, and stay true to the original (as do the sound effects). Arcade mode is a blast to play, and the various little bonus games you can unlock are pretty cool.

But there are, unfortunately, some significant problems with the game. Firstly, there's the fact that the GBA has two less buttons than the SNES. The control scheme is customizable, thankfully, but it takes time to get used to it. Finger-cramping is pretty common after playing for a long period of time, even if you're used to playing the GBA for extended sessions.

Another downside is the music. To put it simply, it's bad. We're talking barely Game Boy Color quality here, and it's a real shame. Part of the charm of the SF2 games is the cool music, and unfortunately this aspect did not carry over well to the GBA at all.

And one other gripe the game can crash. After unlocking Akuma, he can be your opponent in the arcade mode. But unfortunately, the game crashes and burns horribly 9 times out of 10 when it brings me to him in the arcade ladder. A console game crashing under normal usage is a Very Bad Thing(tm), and that's ultimately what brings this game's rating down from 4 stars to 3 stars in my book.

Conclusion: SF2 for GBA is fun, but in many regards it just doesn't do justice to the SNES versions. When you see awesome conversions like Mario Kart Super Circuit, and compare them to this somewhat lacking port of Street Fighter II, its faults can become pretty glaring.

The game is excellent, but unfortunatelly the QA team has missed a critical bug on it. If you're a good SF player, soon you'll notice that when playing Arcade Mode, if you beat everybody up to Sagat without losing you should be challenged by Akuma, but as soon as Akuma's introductory screen appears and his theme song starts being played, the GBA will freeze leaving you with a messed screen. All you can do is reset the GBA pressing all buttons at the same time.

This bug is pretty annoying, because if you want to actually end the game, you'll have to lose at least one battle (two rounds) so Akuma won't care about you and you will go straight to M.Bison, without bugs. Maybe most players won't even notice the problem since only veteran SF players will get to M.Bison without losing. That's probably why this game has passed the QA team without complaints.

I hope Capcom fix this bug soon and offer some kind of solution for customers who bought this buggy release.

Still, the game is the best thing you can get for the GBA now, the other game modes are perfect, specially the "Grand Master Challenge" which is quite a challenge even for experienced SF players. I still couldn't find out how to play the promised "Team Mode" and "Character Edit" features, but "Time Attack" and "Survival Mode" are the kind of thing a real Street Fighter fan would dream about for years...

Other problems include the boss character's "swears". They have switched the statements of Vega, Balrog and M.Bison. That's probably because these characters have their very names switched from the Japanese release to the USA release. For example, M.Bison says "Handsome fighters never lose battles", which is actually Vega's statement.

And the last problem I have found is the winning icon, which appears only in the next round after the winning. This means you'll never see the two icons from the two rounds necessary to win the battle, you'll only see one icon always. This is not a big problem, but looks ugly for sure.

Thanks for reading this review!!

Honest reviews on Super Street Fighter II- Turbo Revival

well, this game is really great one. the graphics are good looking , with like 3 new stages. the character menu is beautiful. all the old sounds are included in there. 6 battle modes to choose from and a link Vs mode for beating your friends in it. Capcom did a really good job in setting a new system for the old 6-button configuration into a new 4-button setting. But watch out, this game has around 15 glitch, and some of them are premanant, which means they might damage your catridge. Also, you can't reset those since Capcom is using an EEPROM instead of a battery inside, so you can't erase the memory. Major glitch: the game hangs when you fight akuma (no fight lost during game), but then, there are many mistakes which could be considered minor to the akuma glitch in this game. To get around this glitch, you'll have to lose a fight against a character to ensure you can continue to M.Bison and get the endings. Its taken off the shelves now, since Capcom did refund people for this game, and I heard that they're working on a newer imporved version. If you're really crazy about this game, then get the Japanese version since it doesn't hang, but then, you'd be missing the newly-redone endings. Worth your money only you're a true SF2 fan and got some cash to spend on E-auctions. Meanwhile, stick to the new and awful SF games till Capcom finds a way with this one, I hope.

This game has got a big enough character selection. The back of the box lies to you and tells you there are 8 modes when there is only really 6.The game is packed with glitches, that ruin your best times, and even crash your game!!I have not yet come across any but i went into some message boards, all of them complained of glitches(and somebody even wrote really long text telling of all the glitches). However the characters are awesome as always,i consider the graphic sprites way better than most of the now-a-day high quality graphix.I bought this game on ebay for 20 dollars.I mean this game is so rare that they quit reproducing them.most people complained to capcom and got a 40 dollar refund of the retail price. You think im that stupid??This game is like as rare and valuable as final fantasy 1 for nes!!If you can get your hands on it,you own something thats value keeps on rising. But try not to get akuma.....he startes off most of the glitches in the game(i read that text thing on glitches and there were about 35 of them). You typically have to lose atleast one match everytime in arcade mode or your game will crash.

GameCube Console - Indigo Reviews

GameCube Console - Indigo

I haven't owned a Nintendo product since the Super Nintendo many years ago, when Sony introduced the original PlayStation they won me because of the CD-ROM media format, excellent graphics (at the time) and the support for well known third-party developers. But the second time around Sony hasn't made the splash with me they did years ago, don't misunderstand, the PlayStation 2 and the XBox have some incredible titles, but these systems are bulky and cost a lot more than I'm willing to pay. Also, I have small children and I want a system that's kid friendly, but also has a game catalog to support my taste. Gamecube was the only one that fit that bill.

To me Gamecube has the most compelling exclusive titles, trademark games like: Metroid, Mario, Zelda, etc.. are being done justice on the new platform, the GameCube Metriod game is the most outstanding console game I've ever played. In addition to Nintendo's exclusive's Sega is porting more exlcusive titles to Gamecube than any other system they develop for. True it doesn't have a DVD drive, but the truth is, DVD doesn't do much for games, it just provides more storage space (mostly wasted on prerendered movie scenes). The inclusion of the DVD drives on XBox and PS2 are keeping their prices up and their systems bulky. Consider Gamecube.

With great frustration, I find the overabundance of misguided preconception and unsubstantiated opinion surrounding Nintendo's Gamecube too much to keep quiet any longer. First and foremost I would like to concede to the fact that I am 22 year old, multi-platform gamer. Since my very early introduction to gaming with my first console, the Atari XE, I have since been privy enough to have experienced nearly every other console that subsequently followed. Included in this list are the NES, Sega Master System, Turbo Graphics 16, Game Boy, Genesis, Sega CD, Sega 32X, Super NES, 3DO, Jaguar, Lynx, Gamegear, Virtual Boy, Saturn, PS, N64, Game Boy Color, Dreamcast, PS2, XBox, Gamecube and Game Boy Advanced. In addition to all that, I have a background in PC gaming that began all too clearly with the likes of ID's original Wolfenstein 3D and Lucas Arts' original X-Wing. Now for the breakdown:

HARDWARE:

The first somewhat obvious advantage of the Gamecube is it's sheer processing power. The hardware architectural scheme is simply unparalleled when compared to the likes of the PS2 and Xbox. With the help of hardware development giants like IBM, NEC and ATI, Nintendo was able to assemble a very powerful machine that is cost effective and easy to code for. The beauty of the Gamecube's hardware design is in it's high emphasis on multi-processor resource sharing. With a CPU developed by IBM, a main graphics processor developed by ATI and a slew of other hardware components dedicated to such environmental effects as dynamic light sourcing, bump mapping, tri-linear vector shading, DLPII surround sound support to name a few. Given that all of these components work in tandem and are (for the most part) independent of each other, it is easy to see how resource burden is effectively reduced. Couple this with super-high-speed DRAM (best showcased in the loading-time-free Metroid Prime), and you've got the potential for more performance than you could ask for. Keeping all of this in mind, let us first take a look at PS2 when making comparison. The PS2's general processing scheme is dependant on 3 separate processors: the CPU and two "Emotion-Engine" co-processors. At first glance one may look at this layout and think, "that's not so bad, sounds like Nintendo's design." The truth is, although the intention of the 3 processors was to share processing burden, only but a handful of software titles for the PS2 have effectively been able to pull this off. In my research, I've found that the common, major complaint stemming from production houses was the inefficiency to which it takes in order to couple the processors. Rather than being an automatic component of the hardware (e.g. one processor starts to lag so it automatically routes data crunching to the next processor), whether or not the co-processors go to work is dependant on whether or not that instruction is explicitly stated in the software engine architecture (source code). In most cases, software development houses (especially those who specialize in making cross-platform software) will simply limit processor utilization to the CPU. Take a second to consider how much needs to be processed by the CPU: polygon draw, dynamic light sourcing, shadows, environmental mapping, reflections... this list goes on. Point being, the PS2 is really only barely hanging on in the hardware development. Now, to something a little harder to see is the Xbox architecture. Being the fair an honest critic that I am, I have been quite impressed by the visual and audio processing of the Xbox. Coupled with the fact that it has a built-in hard drive and ethernet card, I must say it is a good design in general. What turns me off about the Xbox is its incredibly striking resemblance to a PC (e.g. CPU, graphics card, sound card, hard drive setup). For God's sake, the thing supports Direct X. What turns me off to this set up is the sheer redundancy of it all. Why not just buy a computer? It does more, and is easily upgraded to last into the future. Granted I have enjoyed Halo, but I've enjoyed UT 2003 on my Pentium 4 1.4Ghz / Nvidia GeForce 4 Ti a heck of a lot more... especially with my mouse and keyboard.

SOFTWARE:

This is where the debate can truly get ugly. I'll be forthright, Nintendo's Gamecube has hands-down the best and most diverse software catalogue among all three next-gen platforms. First and foremost, when considering this statement you've got to look at console-specific games. Sure, the PS2 may have a ridiculous slew of games over both Xbox and Gamecube, but consider the fact that you can attribute this to PS2's earlier launch. Generally speaking, the majority of PS2's console specific games were developed from launch through to the first year of release. Given this fact coupled with the knowledge of PS2 being a less powerful system altogether, who wants these games anyway? If there is credit to be had on the PS2 side of things, it's that of the Grand Theft Auto franchise, the Gran Turismo Franchise, and a couple of good RPGs like Suikoden and Zenosaga... that's it. Both Metal Gear Solid and Final Fantasy are coming to the Gamecube, so both of those Franchises can no longer be used as bargaining chips. Also, consider that Grand Theft Auto exclusivity expires in 2004. Many experts are weary to assume that exclusivity will continue. You wanna talk Xbox now? Only one word: Halo. That's it. Other than Halo, all you have are other multi-platform games that you'll find on both PS2 and Gamecube anyway. Oh, and don't be so naïve as to effetely fall victim to the whole "Only on Xbox" campaign. Given the financial backing of a corporate giant such as Microsoft, how much more obvious is the fact that they pay out big bucks for limited (insome cases 1 to 2 weeks of) exclusivity. Don't be a fool, open your eyes... honestly what else is there for Xbox? Nothing. Now, lets look at Ninetendo's more notable exclusive franchises: Metroid, Zelda, Mario, F-Zero, Starfox, Resident Evil, to name only a few. Couple that with every other multi-platform game that is being published for Gamecube anyway, and you have the strongest software line-up. That's, it. Simple.

VALUE:

$... plus a free game? Are you kidding? Need I say more? Buy it now, you will not be dissapointed.

Best Deals for GameCube Console - Indigo

I was doing research on game consoles and I felt that the reviews for the Gamecube were very limited in scope. Yes, every system has its pros and cons, but where do they stand and more importantly why.

Of the current game consoles (2003) this is my ranking for them:

1. Nintendo's GameCube

2. Sony's Playstation 2

3. Microsoft's XBOX

**PS2**

The biggest advantage of the PS2 is its library. PERIOD. Due to backward compatibility with the PS1 it has the most games available. Some will tout PS2's ability to play dvds a reason to buy, but it isn't a "dvd player". What does that mean? It means it won't replace any decent dvd player. If you want it for that reason you will sorely be disappointed when you discover it wont play certain dvds to the fact that it doesnt have a real remote.

~Remember... you are in the market for a "gaming console"

**XBox**

The Xbox is by far has the best and fastest hardware. Some people will say it is a pc in a box, and they are pretty much right. Xbox does have some impressive games, but the word that comes to mind when I think Xbox is "limited". Everyone I know who owns an Xbox really isn't getting *excited* about anything anymore. Get an Xbox if you plan to *hack* it. I know people who have done this to create a multi-functioning device that does many-a-things. Very cool... but again I repeat:

~Remember... you are in the market for a "gaming console"

**Gamecube**

Why does the GC come up on top? Quality. It does not have the fastest processor onboard like MS's solution nor does it have a library of games like Sony's, but where Nintendo innovates is in its quality of games. Sound trivial? Look up any Gamecube game on Amazon and read the reviews, compare with any other system. Nintendo is very picky about who they let develop games for their system. And on top of this the Nintendo franchise has alot of VERY promising games coming out from the new Zelda to Soul Caliber II. And now is the time to get a GameCube... Why? because they are offering one of their hot titles for FREE w/ the purchase. This brings the console price drastically!

There are imperfections with every system, but the GameCube holds its ground. The only STRONG reason to not buy the GC right now would be Sega's recent announcement of not supporting its line of Sports Games for the GC (only applies to sega sports). If you primarily play Sports games then you may want to go with a PS2.

Other than that... claims such saying the GC is a "kid's system" really are weak arguments. We all become kids when we play anyhow. And there are alot of games coming out from Nintendo that are not intended for children.

All in all... I prefer the Gamecube and the PS2 over the Xbox. Get the GC if you want a system that will last you 2-3 years w/ quality games before the next generation comes out.

So if you are in the market for a "gaming console"...

Honest reviews on GameCube Console - Indigo

Okay, first off, I'm a girl. I know a lot of people are under the impression that that piece of information excludes me from being a serious gamer, but come on... welcome to the year 2004! That aside, I must say that I have had experience with all three consoles. Here's my comparison.

X-box: by no means can you bash the graphics or the innovation behind this system. The games, while usually featuring unfamiliar characters, are superb. My own personal favorite was the X-box version of Prince of Persia: Sand of time, which I have played for every system available. The disadvantage: for a 20 year old out on their own, the price can be a bit steep for a system rivaled by two others with their own pros and cons. Rating: 3 stars.

Playstation 2: best value for someone looking for options outside of the gamers world. Like other reviewers noted, has the only rights to the GTA series, and in my opinion has a superior controller setup to the other two. Graphics are excellent, but not as good as Gamecube or X-box. Pricing is midrange, and also is compatable with most DVD's, making it space and money efficient. Rating: 4 stars.

Gamecube: easily portable, excellent graphics and game selection (Zelda, Mario, Starfox... the list goes on and on), and lowest priced game system available. While the game selection is not as large as with the other consoles, the selections available are sure to keep you occupied for a while. Overall, pricing and other factors considered, I rate this 5 stars.

While I would have purchased this console solely for The Legend of Zelda: the Windwaker (which was slightly disappointing compared to Ocarina of Time), I find it the best value for what is available.

I bought my Gamecube a year ago, they were all out of the black ones so I had to settle for indigo. Anyway, this new color is arguably the best and makes the GC look a little more sophisticated and cooler. But that's just on the surface and rather superficial. I'm not writing this to convince you to get a GC based on a color, but rather what the machine has going for it.

Last year, I would've rated the GC only 4 stars at best due to the lack of great games and no built-in cd/dvd player to tide me over till the great games came along. But this year, with all the games available and coming up, to use a game machine for anything other than playing great games is ludicrous. Seriously, if you bought a next-generation game machine to mainly play your music cd's or watch a movie, you basically bought the wrong machine to play games with didn't you? But I'm not here to put down the PS2 or X-Box, just to point out why you'll be too busy playing games to worry about anything else.

Here's why it's essential you pick up a Gamecube this year if you didn't last year:

* There are more games available this holiday season than last, from ports(Tony Hawk, Madden, X-Men, college sports games, etc) to exclusives, the GC will have most of your needs.

* Nintendo carries on the tradition of fun multiplayer games: Godzilla's Destroy All Monsters Melee, Super Smash Brothers Melee, Mario Party 4, Bomberman, etc, not to mention upcoming ones like Mario Kart for GC(you know you want it)

* Powerhouse exclusives like the Zelda, Metroid, Resident Evil franchises not to mention certain specific Star Wars and Sonic games.

* Bigger emphasis on more 'mature' oriented games like Eternal Darkness, Biohazard, Killer 7, etc.

* recent announcement by Capcom that they have 5 exclusive games that seem to be more mature-oriented for the GC(check their web-site out for proof)

* Online rpg's like Sega's PSO(although on-line games are still rare and new to the GC, it is possible), excellent fighters like Soul Calibur 2, racers like 1080 and F-Zero X(Sega's doing this one!), and while Rare says goodbye Namco will take over and make the next Star Fox game, a new Final Fantasy-esque game from Square for GC, plus popular ports of games once thought exclusive to other systems like Capcom vs SNK 2, Medal of Honor, Baldur's Gate, Wreckless, Splinter Cell, Dead to Rights, Blood Omen 2, Red Faction 2, etc.

* The GC has the first major wireless controller(the wavebird) available for any system and works perfectly.

* Certain GC games can be connected to or interact with certain games on your GB Advance(i don't own a GBA so i haven't even enjoyed this aspect yet)

* Also, I've noticed the fan-noise is a little quieter on the GC and the load times are a little shorter on the games(on average, generally speaking). Plus, the durability of a Nintendo built product(one year with my GC, no problems yet; and I'm sure a few of you still have working NES's and Super NES's to back up my claim of Nintendo-made durability).

* recent announcement of a Gameboy adaptor that allows you to play thousands of Gameboy/color/advance games on your GC!!

In closing, if you thought the GC was just a toy, or just for kids, think again. Some great games are here, and some even better ones are around the corner. To be honest, I'm very pleased to see Nintendo trying harder to build up their game library(already more varied than the N64's imo) and working hard with some major companies to get some quality games(Capcom's 5-game deal, Sega's ports of their major franchises, joint effort with Namco on Star Fox, ports of rpg's and fighting games--both genres of which suffered on the N64, and the return of Squaresoft incl. an exclusive rpg). But I bought the GC mainly for their world-class exclusives that only GC owners can play. If you can go one-generation in the gaming world without revisiting Link and Hyrule, holding those hours-long multiplayer sessions of Mario Kart or SSB Melee, or finally getting your hands on the new adventure in Metroid Prime...then you have much more restraint than me. But if you want pure gaming addiction, memories, and fun, do yourself a favor and pick up a great system, at a great price, for great gaming value.

When this game was first revealed many were unimpressed as it seemed like a rehash of the 3DS game super Mario 3D World. Then we saw more and saw how wrong we were. This game is amazing. It is the culmination of all Mario games and a mix of old and new. Before even going into the multiplayer aspects I have to say that this game has so much to offer.

There are many secrets to unlock (including a 5th character), so many modes of gameplay and so much innovation. Whether it's the double cherry that creates copies of your character or the powerups that let you fight ghosts or the throwbacks to old powerups like the Kuribo's shoe, this game has it all. There are levels with Music reminiscent of Super Mario 64, Boss battles that are incredibly fun and amazing visuals throughout. This game must be seen to be believed. Running at 720p (upscaled to 1080p) at 60 fps, the game is gorgeous! At times you will simply stop and look and admire the visuals.

Speaking of the levels there is so much variety putting this on the same playing field as the Galaxy games (made by the same team) and other 3D Mario games. There is a level with silhouettes, a level that plays like an overhead shooter (with the double cherry as special powerup) and a Mario kart themed level and that's just some of it. The levels start out somewhat easy but this is to ease you into the game. It gets harder as you progress and it makes you want to play until you beat it.

The music is amazing and varies between big band music and orchestral remixes of older Mario music. It really fits the game well and you will want to listen for hours.

Now about the multiplayer, it's fun but be warned, the more players, the more chaotic it becomes. This isn't a bad thing though. Playing in single player and then in multiplayer will give you very different experiences. Playing with four players locks the camera up while playing in single player or with less than 4 characters allows freer roaming camera angles. As for controls, there are so many options, ranging from the gamepad, to the pro ctontroller, thewiimote to the nunchuck and the classic controller and they are all awesome!

While there isn't online co-op, the truth is that online co-op isn't needed and the game is fun without it, however there is an option to go online and submit your playthroughs of level and access other peoples' playthroughs and race against other peoples' ghost data. There are also stamps that can be obtained in the game and shared on miiverse and take part in the online community.

The different modes in this game are amazing, whether its speed running with the clock starting at 100 seconds, or the bonus levels, there is so much variety offered (including a hidden bonus game) and the game never stays constant and is always changing things up. There is no way to get bored and so much to unlock. This is the reason to buy a Wii U right now if you haven't yet!

This game marks the beginning of a new era of awesomeness for Nintendo and the Wii U. Its time to get hyped!

Color me surprised. I thought there was no way Nintendo could possibly match the Super Mario Galaxy games in terms of quality and creativity, and yet, somehow, they have with this gem. Super Mario 3D World has somehow taken the core premise of Super Mario 3D Land (it itself a fantastic Mario game and essential for any 3DS Library) and launched it into the stratosphere with exceptional execution, staggering density of content, and breathtaking creativity. It's amazing to me how a game that is, at its core, centered around the simple joys of running, jumping, exploring, and playing, can be so full of brilliance and inspiration. If it's not already obvious, my wife and I both absolutely love this masterpiece. This is a *huge* game full of ideas and concepts both new and nostalgic, and while I will try to keep spoilers to a minimum, this will be a long, detailed review. It's the only way to do such a wonderful game justice. Either jump ship now or continue reading, you've been warned.

The story in Super Mario 3D World is as simple as it is in any Mario game, but 3D World's story is noteworthy simply because Peach's kidnapping is not the plot device used to introduce the exquisite gameplay (it also shows Mario and Luigi actually fixing something as plumbers, something I cannot recall a main series Mario game showing before, so that's special :D).While going for an evening stroll, Mario, Luigi, Peach, and Blue Toad stumble across a clear pipe, out of which pops a unique pixie-like princess from the Sprixie kingdom. She then informs them that Bowser has attacked and taken over her kingdom and requests help when, all of a sudden, Bowser pops out of the pipe, kidnaps this new princess, and absconds back into the recently conquered Sprixie Kingdom. Our four heroes give chase into the pipe to help their new friend, like any good Samaritans would do, thus beginning 3D World's platforming euphoria. Interspersed throughout the adventure are very simple cutscenes that are enjoyable and appealing.

The visuals in 3D World are exceptional. This is the first Mario outing in genuinely glorious HD, all at a smooth 60 fps, and it is beyond gorgeous. I've always loved the art design in Mario games. The focus on clean, imaginative style and vibrant color has always made Mario games stand out as some of the most beautiful releases on their platform, and 3D World is no exception. Impressive lighting effects and exceptionally well done textures make levels like Bowser's oceanside castle during a sunset, or sunny grasslands, or snowy wonderlands such beautiful, enchanting playgrounds to run and jump through. Character designs, whether friend or foe, are all very nostalgic and the new ones feel very fresh at the same time. Seeing classic enemies like Chargin Chuck from SMWorld is so nostalgic. The audio is equally charming, with many iconic sound effects returning. The real audio highlight, however, is the soundtrack. Anybody worried that this game would drop the beautiful orchestrations of the Galaxy games can rest easy. Whether the tracks are reminiscent of the symphonic majesty of the Galaxy soundtracks or more of the jazzy 3D Land variety, all songs in 3D World are super catchy and full of warm nostalgic magic, as befits a Mario game (even brand new songs immediately cultivated nostalgia in me). You'll be humming the tunes long after you turn off the game. From a visual and audio perspective, this game is a definite winner and a showcase for the Wii-U.

I've always loved the core concept behind Super Mario 3D Land/World: Take nostalgic gameplay concepts and goals from the classic Super Mario Bros. 1-3 and Super Mario World, and play through them from Mario's perspective in a 3-D game with all the refinements and conventions 3-D Mario games have introduced over the years. It's a perfect marriage of classic conventions and creative innovation, made so that fans of every style of Mario can enjoy themselves. For example, each level has you going for the end-pole as your goal, just like the 2-D Mario classics. However, each level features three green stars (first seen in Galaxy 2) that encourages 3-D Mario style exploration of the levels in order to collect them, and the levels are so well designed and massive, you'll enjoy every second you spend exploring them. It's a marriage of two different Mario styles that compliment each other very well and offer something to every Mario fan. That's great. The world map may seem to be styled after the New Super Mario Bros. games at first glance, except that you're given free rein to run all over the whole thing like some sort of 3-D playground overworld, another example of 3-D and 2-D Mario combining into something new and special, appealing to everybody.

When you turn on a Mario game, what do you except from the gameplay? Perfectly refined, intuitive control mechanics that make the character on screen feel like an extension of yourself? What about insightful, brilliant level design that perfectly compliments these mechanics and gives lots of variety to the experience? You'd probably want plenty of power ups to give even more satisfaction to the experience too right? Thankfully, 3D World nails every one of these core aspects, and expands them to previously unseen heights through new ideas and flawless refinement.

Even the controls feel like a perfect marriage between classic and modern Mario games, resulting in an entirely new experience. Like the classic 2-D Mario games, you can't double or triple jump, which is jarring at first but ultimately makes for unique, old-school gameplay that feels new for a 3-D Mario game. The rolling spin and rolling long-jump (returning from 3D Land) are wonderful additions to Mario's acrobatic repertoire. Jumping and stomping on enemies has never felt more satisfying. On the new side of things, you can knock shells off of Koopas and, in addition to throwing them as always, you can go inside and ride them as they slide along the floor. Talk about a blast! The new clear pipes introduce a ton of new gameplay possibilities too, such as choosing which branching paths to take, how to dodge the obstacles or enemies that can use the pipes too, or being able to hurl fireballs inside. So many new gameplay concepts, and all are super fun.

What's awesome about all of this is that you get to choose between several equally well-designed characters to play as, and all offer unique abilities and traits. Mario is an all-around balanced character, Luigi's controls are more "slippery" and he jumps higher, Peach runs slower but can hover like in SMB2 which makes her good for beginners, and Blue Toad runs faster than the others but he drops faster after jumps. That's not all, as there is an unlockable character with their own unique abilities and gameplay style too! This is such a great aspect of 3D World. Having so many unique characters practically guarantees that gamers of any skill level or play style will get the most out of their experience with the game, and that's awesome. Bravo Nintendo!

The suits that return from 3D Land (Tanooki, Fire, Boomerang Bros., propeller box, etc) all play extremely well and are super satisfying to use. New suits/items, such as the already-iconic Cat Suit or the new canon box fit in with the rest very well. The Cat Suit is ridiculously fun. Others are bizarrely appealing, like the double cherry, which creates a new clone of your character each time you grab one. Imagine the hilarious chaos that results from 10-12 fire balls bouncing around hurled from 5-6 Marios with fire suits. Boss fights that incorporate the double cherry are super fun too. There are many new items you can grab and carry along with you, like a baseball to throw at enemies, or potted Piranha plants that can rapidly eat enemies and other obstacles. Of course, these are just a few examples, and the game features many more.

The utterly brilliant level designs compliment the gameplay mechanics beautifully. There are so many new level ideas for a 3-D Mario game too, including but not limited to: riding a Loch Ness Yoshi monster through a tropical paradise, a level exploring a Japanese-style castle, a light/shadow/silhouette themed sewer level that really messes with your perception of size and distance, a level based on the classic Super Mario Kart (complete with overwhelmingly nostalgic music), the Captain Toad puzzle levels, the mystery houses, the speed run levels, a golden express segment that makes New Super Mario Bros. 2 look conservative by comparison... I could go on forever. Although a bit on the easy side, boss fights in the game overall are better than they were in 3D Land, full of variety and new ideas (and I LOVED the Bowser fights in 3D Land, by the way). Seriously, this game is bursting with creativity. New concepts are introduced at a breathtaking speed. Much like Galaxy 1 & 2, Super Mario 3D World feels like standing before a seemingly bottomless well of brilliant new ideas. If it doesn't top Galaxy 1 or 2 in that respect, 3D World at least matches them. That alone is impressive, especially since the overall focus of 3D World is more "conventional" in comparison to the mind-bending Galaxy games. The fact that it is easily as big as the first Galaxy game makes this even more amazing. Once you beat the main worlds, several more pop up, and the farther you get into the game, the more challenge there is to be had. This game has a fantastic density of content.

Another aspect that makes Super Mario 3D World a milestone for the series is its excellent multiplayer. This is the first 3-D Mario game to implement multiplayer and it is incredible! I was worried this would have the lazy multiplayer of the NSMB games where all characters play the same and offer no real variety, but thankfully 3D World delivers the goods. Each player gets to control a unique character (no generic, recolored Toads for player 4, thankfully), and as I said earlier, each character controls uniquely as well, so everyone will have their own experience! It also never become frustrating like it does in the NSMB games, where other players too often become obstacles to your enjoyment rather than enhancing it. In 3D World, it's super fun and really hearkens back to the old days where playing video games with friends and loved ones on the couch was a bonding, joyful experience. Any game that my wife and I bond over always gets bonus points in my book, and 3D World is superb in that regard. The game is so well designed that you will get the most out of your time with the game, regardless of whether you're playing alone or with others. That's awesome. Bravo Nintendo!

You might wonder how 3DW functions as a Wii-U exclusive and what features there are. Well, for starters, the touch screen and mic are used in several, unique ways that affect the levels you play through, adding complexity to the mix. The gyroscope can be used to get different angles in the levels, which is really helpful for finding collectibles. There are so many other things you can do using the gamepad, it's easy to lose count. Personally, I find the gamepad a lot more useful with more complex series, like The Legend of Zelda for example, but it works surprisingly well in 3D World. Miiverse is also utilized in the same fun way it was in NSMBU, but has been deepened with collectible stamps hidden in the levels that adds spice to messages. I like the Miiverse system here, it's a nice novelty at the very least. Overall, the Wii-U exclusive features don't feel like gimmicks, thankfully, and the game works well because of them and not in spite of them, which is all I ask for.

So, to all you who stuck around with this review, I really cannot emphasize it enough: this game is an absolute masterpiece. I really can't think of a single flaw or complaint to say about the game. Nintendo EAD has been on a roll for years with 3-D Mario releases, and with each new game, I always doubt and worry that they can't possibly top the game that came before it. With Super Mario 3D World, they have indeed continued their streak of top-tier quality. It may not have the brilliant gravity defying concept of the Galaxy games, but the sheer amount of creativity and innovation they poured into this game despite it being more "conventional" in its style just astounds me even more. The huge addition of well-executed multiplayer makes this a 3-D Mario milestone in yet another way. I bought this game at my local *cough cough* as soon as it opened and have been playing since then (alternating with The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds, another masterpiece). In addition to its awesome creativity, this is one of the most celebratory Mario games I've ever played too, filled with salutes and homages that pretty much every Mario fan can appreciate and enjoy to the fullest. So do I recommend it? Oh yeah, you better believe I do. This is the undisputed Wii-U "killer app" and is an absolutely essential game for any Wii-U library. I'd even say the game is worth buying the system over. Seriously, it is such a masterwork in game design. Buy it immediately, enjoy the game either solo or with others, and experience another magical masterpiece with Nintendo's famous plumber hero.

I've been playing this game for 9 hours straight so far and I'm loving every minute of it.

I'm the kind of person to take my time with video games! I like to find little secrets and hidden passages. So far I've gotten every green star (and stamp) in every level up until 6-2. I need to take a rest though. My eyes are killing me!

Anyway, more about the game!..

It is absolutely a MUST if you have a wii u. It's got those occasional classic frustrating levels, but it's got so much more this time around since the last installment of the super mario series.

For starters, it is very creative! There are many little details you'll notice in this game that will make you go "OH MY GOD... LOOK AT _____ !. Me, my two little brothers, and my sister were playing multiplayer for about an hour and it was MADDNESS! So many laughs and so much fun! It's pretty much like new super mario bros, except you can walk in all directions and (obviously) do more intricate things!

The artistic design to this game is amazing as well, I can't express how happy I am to see mario in HD. The worlds look more beautiful than ever!

I also enjoyed the throwback looks they gave the characters icons! Made me feel like I was little kid again! I also enjoyed the fact that on the map, you're not secluded to just using the directional pad to automatically move you from one world to the next.. Nope! You walk around the map in free direction!!! Amazing!!

I give it a 10/10 I love it!!! Worth the money for sure.!

Every half-decade or so, a game comes along that's so good, it's worth buying the console just to play. Super Mario World, Ocarina of Time, Final Fantasy 7, etc.. This is one of those games. A must have for anyone who considers themselves a hardcore gamer.

I played Skyhawks 1942 back in the ole DOS days when 8ghz was fast, and then played most of the air combat games since then. I really like the graphics and excitement of shooting down the enemy (Or getting shot down). The high learning curve sims like, Janes,

and now DCS Blackshark and the Warthog are great also and I enjoy them too.

The high learn curve games are OK if you want to spend all that time just learning to start the engine or get into the cockpit, but if you want to have real FUN and do it in a reasonable time then I highly recommend this game. After all, this is a computer game, not a military similator. If it weren't for the good ole arcade games, played mostly by a keyboard under a DOS OS, on an 8mghz machine..... All these high learning curve games wouldn't exist. Also, those who make real military similators do not make them available for civilian home use. (They wouldn't be cost effect either,... for the home user).

This game has very nice graphics, you do have instances to land & take off, and you can disable your site reticle if you might be inclined to do so, and you can make it almost impossible to complete a mission, if you would enjoy that. I am 62 years old and I sometimes like to get serious with DCS Blackshark, but I really enjoy Air Conflicts also. It's a good Fun Game that you will enjoy.

You can even choose what side you want to play on. I played a combat flight sim before there was even an internet!

Buy the game! Have some fun! If you are serious about flight games I also recommend DCS Blackshark.

I have seen a few interviewers that actually think they are going to end up at the Air Force Academy or in U.S. Naval flight school by sitting in front of their home computers playing Blackshark or A10 Warthog. WOW, what a world.

I have to say that it's a pretty OK game, at least for the price. Got it on bargain and wanted to use it to try out my PS3definitely worth it. I would say that because you're flying older aircraft the thrill is much higher, since that's when dog-fights were necessary. Controls are super easy to learn, and it lets you focus more on the gameplay than on mechanics. The campaign story is pretty solidalthough there are no cut scenesit's all still comic graphics. But hey, it's not an EA production. =D If you like to fly around without getting too technical, this is a good game to look at.

Best Deals for Air Conflicts - Playstation 3

I was excited to find a flight sim with both WWI & WWII planes for the PS3. I had hoped this would be a mix of Rise of Flight (PC) and IL-2 Sturmovik (PC or PS3) which allow you to customize the gameplay to make it as realistic or arcade like as you prefer. Unfortunately (for me), the customization is minimal and the gameplay is much like an arcade with some wonky flight dynamics and a story thrown in.

The story is told in comic form and fully voiced. Not the best voice acting or story, but still a nice touch.

The graphics and audio are nothing special. There is constant screen tearing regardless if you use 3D mode or not.

It provides 3D gaming which is nice. The text (subtitles & alt/speed) is not done right in 3D and messes with your eyes during missions...otherwise, the 3D effect is pretty well done. I played 2 missions in 3D but preferred non-3D due to the text and comfort.

Online play ... it's in the game, but I tried to find someone to battle online for two nights and found ZERO people. Don't buy this game if you are mostly or even interested in online dogfights.

If you are looking for an arcade plane game with a story and planes from WWI & WWII, then give this a try for cheap. If you are looking for something more realistic or historical, then go with IL-2 Sturmovik or Rise of Flight.

bought this game for my husband, had been looking EVERYWHERE for it and found it readily here. The game itself is beautifuly done, but its quite tricky to master. love playing this and watching husband play it, but still alittle hard for me to enjoy, just not as great as i had hopped. still give it a shot though beautiful, well done game.I give it 5 stars

i was just spoiled by IL2 on the xbox360. so ya, I basically picked it up while waiting for the sequial to IL2, "Birds of Steel".

I understand games are subjective to the person playing, so I cant really fault the previous reviews that rated this game highly. Personally, I kind of found it to be a bit boring. I think the real issue I have with it is it just moves along too slowly. The planes fly slow, the story develops slowly...the whole thing just seems to crawl. Perhaps it is mindful of real planes from the era, but I am not a slow game fan. I cant play Assassins Creed for the same reason. Just paced too slowly for my tastes.

The graphics themselves are sufficient for the game, and the controls are reasonably responsive, but overall, I think this game falls dead center...not horrible, but nothing special. That being said, it is pretty inexpensive, so it might be worth trying it out just to see for yourself.

I see now that other buttons come with a T8 Security driver. I thought with all the tools my husband owns, we surely had something that would unscrew the screws of the controller. We didn't. Home depot didn't. I forgot where my husband finally did find one, but then the head was still too short to fit in 2 of the deep holes to completely unscrew the controller.

Mario and Sonic at the Olympic Winter Games has many games (listed below) and play options so there's something for everyone. It also has variety for different situations, such as playing alone, as a team or against others, which make it a great all-around game.

Initial events:

Alpine Skiing (Downhill and Giant Slalom)

Ski Jumping (Individual and Team Large Hill)

Freestyle Skiing (Moguls and Ski Cross)

Snowboard (Halfpipe and Snowboard Cross)

Speed Skating (500m, Short Track 1000m, Short Track Relay)

Figure Skating

Skeleton

Bobsleigh

Ice Hockey

Curling

Dream Ski Cross

Dream Snowboard Cross

Other "Dream" events are unlocked as you play. These involve variations on the main events and some new ones. In the Dream versions you collect and use items, face obstacles, use different tracks, etc.

There are also 3 "Party Games" that seem silly when playing them on your own but should be a fun way to play many events quickly with a group of people.

Pros:

Multiple modes--Single Match allows you to select your events and choose Versus, Team Versus, or Co-op Play. Festival allows an individual or team of up to 4 players to take on events and rival challenges as assigned over 16 "days" of the Olympic games. This is like arcade mode. You can also check your records against others' on WFC.

Balance board option--you don't have to use the Wii Fit balance board but, if you have one, you can do 1-player games with it. It changes the game play and provides additional variety. (It's harder than the regular controls though!)

Multiple characters--the characters all have different attributes and special moves so it keeps the play interesting.

Many games--as mentioned there is something for everyone due to nice breadth and depth--and all ages should enjoy it. It's easier to unlock things than in Mario Kart. It even lets you accumulate points and "shop" for decals so you can customize your skis, bobsleighs and snowboard, outfits for your Mii, etc.

Cons:

Controls--if you want to play something that actually simulates hockey moves, skating, etc. this isn't it. The controls are fun and pretty responsive but not similar to Wii Sports or Wii Sports Resort (although using the balance board helps.) Also, the instructions for Curling tell you to use a bowling swing but neither my boyfriend nor I can get it to work that way consistently. We've found that you have to snap your wrist and then it works fine.

Balance board option--a pro but a con too as you can only use it for 1-player games.

No Wii Motion Plus option--it would be fun if WM+ worked with this.

Kids if you're looking for a game that has a lot of action, this is it. Parents if you're looking for a clean game that you can even occasionally play with the kids, this is it. Some of you may be returning to this title after playing the Mario/Sonic Beijing 2008 game. Although that game was good in its own right, this one is even better. There is no violence in this game, and it introduces you to the world of the Olympic Winter Games using the familiarity of your favorite characters from two of the most popular frachises in the industry. I would suggest that this game is probably even better if you are new to the Wii.

The best part of this game is that there are challenges for players of every skill level. Certain events are easy enough for inexperienced gamers (such as very young children or non-gamer parents), while other events may challenge even the more experienced gamer. The gameplay is organized very well; you can either play Olympic events freely or aim for a high score in a structured "Festival Mode". As for the Olypmic events, this game includes a wealth of favorite sports some of which will be new to the Olympics in real life, appearing for the first time in Vancouver this winter. There are familiar events such as Alpine Skiing, Figure Skating, and Ice Hockey; and there are some fantasy events that you can unlock, as well. If you have a Wii Balance Board, you can use that as a controller for certain events but the game does not require it. Many of the events in this game do not even require the Nunchuk accessory (though I would highly recommend purchasing one if you plan to buy this game).

Just as in Mario & Sonic at the Beijing Olympics, this game allows you to use your Mii in the different events. As an added bonus in this game, however, you can customize your Mii by "purchasing" items in the shop (you purchase these items using points you earn by completing events giving you yet another way to structure your gameplay). You can also unlock books at the library, where you can learn about different aspects of the real Olympic Games. I, myself, never knew how Curling was played until I played this game. The multiplayer in this game, by the sheer nature of the type of game it is, is excellent. You can play cooperatively or competetively with friends and/or family. If you like to use the online features of the Wii, you can connect this game and check your high scores against those of other players all over the world. The background and theme music is outstanding, and the graphics are simply gorgeous. This game is a must-have for any die-hard sports fan, but especially for fans of the Olympic Games.

My family enjoyed the original summer games version. I was a little pessimistic going into this Olympic Winter Games since, in general, I am not a big fan of the winter olympic events. But I was happily surprised to see the great improvements made to gameplay from the previous summer olympics release. After playing this game, I am hoping the they release the next summer olympic game and incorporate the improvements made for this Mario and Sonic at the Olympic Winter Games. In the summer games, you could play in a season-like mode, but only as an individual. The Winter Games allows multiple players, as a team or vs., to go through an entire 16(?) day campaign, full of unlockable features. The other great new addition are the "Dream" events. They are kind of silly at times, but if you're a fan of the Mario and Sonic series, you'll really appreciate the features built into these events. The other key addition for this game release is support for the Wii Balance Board in several events, but I have not tried using the board yet. The only negative comment I have is that going into the Dream Events for the first time, there is no real direction, explanation of what to expect or how to accomplish the goalswhich can be very tricky for some of the events that are really quite different from the standard events.

Review of Axis & Allies - PC

Axis & Allies - PC

I am 40 years old, and not a hardcore PC gamer. I do love traditional strategy games, and played everything from chess to Risk and the A&A board game growing up.

I only own about three or four PC games. I quite liked the first PC version of A&A, as it was like the board game, but sped up with the computer rolling the dice, etc. When I heard about this release, I couldn't wait, and eagerly shelled out the $49.99 (I see it is already only $45.99 here on Amazon).

I just wanted to let you know where I was coming from before I gave my review. My initial impressions are mixed, but overall, I am somewhat disappointed. This may change as I play more.

I have to say I love the idea. The traditional board game strategy, with the ability to "micromanage" the battles in real time. In fact, in the WWII mode, you can play the whole game from the game board perspective, using the computer to resolve the battles based on relative strengths, or you can choose to do any particular battle, offensive or defensive, in the micro mode, and then on that level, it is like a whole new game, with great graphics and all.

The biggest disappointment as a fan of the traditional board game version and the original PC version, is that on the board game level, it is not much like the original game. You do not start out with choices like ships, subs, and planes to deploy, only infantry or mechanized infantry. The Ocean spaces on the board do not serve as any type of natural barrier, as any type of piece can move to any adjoining space. So, for example, German infantry can attack Great Britain as easily as Russia on the mainland. In fact, as another reviewer mentioned, if you choose to play the board game level, and not use the real-time strategy level to resolve battles, the game is simply a rush to deploy infantry and gobble up territory. If you play the U.S., the game will be over in about 5 or 6 turns as Moscow and London fall before you can really get in the battle.

Also, the technology doesn't have things like heavy bombers and super subs, etc.

I really wish that on the game board, turn by turn level, the PC game was true to the Board game. I agree with others that if you are an A&A fan you are in for a disappointment.

Other complaints I have are that, for example, the tool bar has fancy graphics, that I think are unnecessary, and cut down on the viewable area of the map, which should be a prime focus in designing the interface. Also, the tool bar has separate buttons for moving and attacking, so you have to click the piece you want, then click move button or attack button, then click the territory you want to move to or attack. And if you click the move button, then a hostile territory, it tells you you can't move to a hostile territory, you must attack. This three-step process seems like such a waste, when the two actions are mutually exclusive. Why can't you just drag the piece to the space you want, and then the computer should be able to know if it is friendly you want to move there, and if it is hostile, you want to attack? This is just one example.

Finally, keep your manual handy, as although there are PCtutorials, they only deal with the real time combat level, and you'll be unable to figure out how to play the board game level, because of problems like the one I just described above, without digging through the book.

Now, having said that, I am trying to learn this game better, and enjoy it in its own right. I think that is possible. And I haven't tried many of the campaign options, so they might be fun also. It does have great graphics, and that is why I gave it 3 stars (instead of 1 or 2).

but if you wanted to buy a game like Axis and Allies then avoid this game like the plague. Like all RTS games there is little real strategy to the game. It is simply who can build the fastest and move around the board the fastest. The lack of naval and air power is amazing. Oh, those units are there, kind of. They are strictly a tack on to the RTS portions of the game. You do not actually build them like you did in A&A. There is literally nothing to stop the Germans from invading Britain in the openning rounds.

As the Americans, I defeated 6 Japanese units, 2 armored and 4 infantry in China, with only one defensive unit as they call them. Eventually through constantly beating their attacks each turn, I was able to destroy the majority of the Japanese army in Asia. There was no strategy to it. It was basic RTS. Build as fast as you can and rush them out there in mobs. This game exemplifies why I hate RTS games in general and I really wish they had added this feature in some better fashion. RTS games have no strategy in the real military sense. I guess there is some, but in my experience they are simply building as fast as possible and rushing your men out in massive mobs. This is not why I buy military games.

Again, if you like the standard RTS games out there, this might add an extra dimension, which you might like. But, and this is a huge but, if you wanted a game like the old A&A with a little bit of RTS added on, then this is not for you. The RTS is clearly a distraction from the old game and not an addition. I consider this game to be the biggest waste of my money in several years.

Reading the previous reviews many have rated it bad because people are expecting something like the board game. If you read the comments it says "INSPIRED BY THE BOARD GAME" It does not say exactly like the board game.

I have the board game and I love it, Whenever we can get a group of people we play.

This PC version is great it has great graphics "smoke, construction, fires, explosions, ect. ect."

It is pretty cool on how the construction is portrayed.

The battlefields and the missions get harder and harder.

Overall if you are expecting a board game do not buy this get the board game. If you are looking for a PC game with great graphics then buy this game.

Honest reviews on Axis & Allies - PC

First of all, this game has the wrong title. If you love the board game, you will be sadly disappointed. If you want the board game on PC, you can still find it offered by other vendors but the AI is horrible. Aside from that, the RTS in this game is great and very addicting. There are flaws of course, such as the fact that you have to constantly pause the game to issue commands because your units are too stupid to show any logic for themselves, such as being able to get out of the battle before being wiped out or to fix a burning building they are standing right next to, etc. But overall, it if very fun to play the campaigns and the RTS and AI is very good.

Then this is NOT it. Don't waste your money.

I finally upgraded to XP SP2 and my A & A (Hasbro Version) stopped working. So I thought it was time to upgrade my version of A & A. As I read about the new version, I was really psyched at the potential of mixing the board game and RTS. However after spending time playing it today, I can honestly say it is a WW II RTS game bearing the title A & A with a computerized board game. While the computerized board game portion of the game may show a board that resembles the A & A map, the game doesn't resemble A & A very much beyond that. No ships or aircraft to control in the WW II portion. Imagine taking a territory and you get to keep all your armies and the enemy loses only one and gets to retreat. Huh? Germany can invade Great Britian with troops straight from Europe. What happened to control of the air or sea? This has both Moscow and London falling quickly if you are the US. Another sticking point, you can only have one battle per turn. ??? You can only cross one boarder at a time. Huh??? No tanks crossing two territories. I am not sure how the "quick resolution" of a battle is accomplished in the backend. On several occasions I attacked my opponent whom I totally out numbered and I lost. I think someone posted something similar happening to them also. I ended up losing one guy and all forces retreated. Huh??? What if I don't wnat to retreat? One battle I was attacking Japan, however if Japan leaves no armies in Japan you can't attack. What??? Is this a feature? I'll just leave my homeland empty and I'll never lose. Several turns later Japan has a country full of armies.

To be fair to the programmers on the RTS side, it has some cool stuff. Little things like snow falling off the trees in the background. Tanks running over trees, tank tracks in the snow...

It seems to me that those who gave it a great review are looking at it from an RTS perspective. Those that gave it a bad review were looking at it from a "computerized version of the titled board game". Two reviewers must have been out late smoking something or work for Atari. TimeGate or somehow associated with selling the product. Sam you are the only one that says "It stays true to the board game". Tim another reviewer even says "not your board game anymore" and Diego "I am sure it will be a great PC game" obviously puts you in the "haven't played it so you shouldn't review it". Play it then tell us your thoughts.

In the end it is a good "Age of Empires" World War II version, however it is far from the name Axis & Allies board game I have known and what I thought I was purchasing.

I wanted a computerized version of the board game. Instead I was really disappointed because it is just a wolf is sheep's clothes. Atari came out with a good game and unfortunately attached the name of another game to it. I was so pumped up to play it, however the delta between my expectation and the delivery is just too great.

Have I expressed my disappointment....

If Atari or TimeGate happen to read this, all you need to do is take the WW II portion of the game and make that part more like the actual board game or Hasbro version (tuning it up a bit) and both sides will give it a thumbs up. It seems to get thumbs up from the RTS gamers. However those who buy it thinking it is like the board game are going to continue to be very disappointed. From the 50/50 reviews I would say it might be half of the customer base, although I think is is more 60/40, some of the reviews are obviously peppered.

Skylanders Giants Single Character Pack Core Series 2 Fright Rider Reviews

Skylanders Giants Single Character Pack Core Series 2 Fright Rider
Customer Ratings: 5 stars

Fright Rider is a new character released for the Skylander GIANTS world. He is an Undead Type knight of sorts and rides upon an undead steed of some variety (perhaps an Ostrich?). This mechanic is completely new to the Skylander universe and I personally welcome any and all differentiation in the characters. The design works well although I feel he should have more defense being a mounted unit. Fright Rider turns into a formidable combatant with entertaining special moves and a good mix of close and ranged attacks. Spinning spear strikes are especially effective.

He does tend to have a slight pause between attacks which leaves him vulnerable after a combo. On 3DS he is moderate jumper.

From a toy/collectible perspective, this is one of my personal favorites. Fright Rider has a neat name, unique design and is well painted and posed.

Fright Rider is not only an interesting looking Skylander, but one with a neat backstory! Rider and his ostrich Fright were once the best jousting team in Skylands, but when a rival sent Rider to the underworld, Fright turned himself into a skeleton and journeyed there himself to rescue his longtime friend. They are now dedicated to helping others all across Skylands. An added cool factor is that they're one of the two Skylanders that are actually composed of two characters, the elf and the ostrich.

Speed: Average

Fright's movements can be a little awkward, but I wouldn't call him slow. If you still don't find him fast enough, I'm sure a hat would fix the problem quickly.

Primary Attack

As a jousting team, you can easily guess that the attack one button is used for spear related melee attacks. If you press attack one three times in a row, Fright will lash out and bite at enemies as well. The spear is eventually upgraded first to a powerful Ghoul Glaive, then to an even more powerful Halberd of Horror; both upgrades cause your spear to change in appearance. If you choose the Sir Lance A Lot upgrade path, your melee attack becomes more powerful, you gain the ability to hold in attack one and release several small undead ostrich heads to attack your enemies from underground, and you get much better combos. Attack one, attack one, attack two gives you Spear Vault, where Rider will vault off the back of Fright and slam into enemies. Attack one, attack one, attack three gives you Skull Slam, where Fright will rear up and slam his head down.

Secondary Attack

Also related to their way of life, Fright Rider's secondary attack consists of them jousting forward in a short, fast charge with the spear. It's eventually upgraded to be more powerful, and lasts a bit longer. A lot of people don't seem to like this one, but I use it quite frequently. It's especially good for the Arena Battles where your enemies are invincible and need to be pushed off or into things. If you choose the Joust Jockey upgrade path, the attack becomes more powerful and even faster, the spear can be swung at 360 degrees while charging, and while charging you can press attack three for a downward strike.

Tertiary Attack

My favorite of the three main attacks! Fright burrows his head underground (the direction of which is controllable) and once the buttom is released or the max amount of time for the attack has run out, Rider will be dragged underground and pop up where Fright's head has ended up. This is good for getting away from smaller and slower enemies quickly, and for getting out of places where you've gotten yourself stuck. The best part of this is the Soul Gem ability, which will be addressed below.

Soul Gem:

Another great Soul Gem attack! When you burrow underground, instead of Rider just traveling underground the spear remains above ground and drags down enemies that get caught in its path. It's very effective if you start getting swamped. The only downside is that large enemies, like crystal golems or Blaze Brewers, cannot be dragged under.

Overall:

Definitely a worthy Skylander. I was a little leery about purchasing a Skylander that does their melee attacks from the back of a steed, but it actually opened up the windows to some interesting attacks.

the other guy says he recomends not to screw it down. i disagree with him there, are they breakable yes very BUT only when installing it. after u got the case on theres not a very good chance of u cracking this thing, i got two now a clear and green i actually cracked the top a little on the clear one. not fully my fualt tho cause these cases fit very tightly. also like the other guy said its hard not to get gaps i disagree there to. ive never had that problem. if u got gaps either the case is to big or u didnt install it the right way. this does not take a master mind to install or instructions. very simple but like he said NOT FOR KIDS takes kind hands to install it cuz the case has no bend to it. the first time u strecth this thing ur going to crack it. BUT DONT LET THAT CHANGE UR MIND GHOST CASE IS NOT ONLY THE ONLY CASES MADE FOR XBOXS BUT THEY ARE THE BEST LOOKING AND QUALITY. FOR 20 DOLLARS U CANT GO WRONG. A GREAT BUY FOR ANY XBOX MODDER LIKE MYSELF. SO GO ON ADD SOME BLING TO UR XBOX

To start this is a review for the Ghostcase made for the original Xbox from the early 2000's not the 360! The kit includes the top half of the Xbox, the front strip for the disc tray, the console power/disc buttons, and the overlay for the disc tray. [There is no led light included with this kit] There is also no bottom half and there's a valid reason for that not being there,a lot of people were complaining about this missing (it pays to read the description of what you're buying). This is also no where near easy to put on your console. It can crack very easily and it will take a lot of trial and error (and filing) to get it to fit perfectly with out gaps so I wouldn't recommend letting small children do it or it will break I also don't recommend screwing it down because of the cracking. For the price if you put it on right and yours isn't cracked in the mail its a nice buy. They also don't come with directions out of the box but they are available on their website here http://www.ghostcase.com/installation-instructions/
