At first pass this game might not seem like much, but after I learned all the moves (there is a tutorial in career mode) I began to really get excited about this game. The fish sometimes are stubborn, they fight hard and I have lost a lot of lures already to snags and broken lines. Also at the time of this writing, I am #37 on the largest fish caught leaderboard. Upgrading equipment makes a real difference in catching the fish, so upgrade often. The game gives good lure tips for each location and fish for those who are less than knowledgeable about what to use for each fish. The 10 locations are well-rendered with a day-cycle that has a noticeable effect on fishing.

The rod and reel control at first feels awkward and I kept fumbling for different buttons, but I soon figured out the logic.

You can somewhat customize your 'character' but a little more options such as sunglasses, hat etc would have been nice. Also once you choose your options you can't change it for that profile, but you have several profile slots.

The achievements seem pretty straight forward, especially for BPS first time out into gaming.

In future editions, we could hope to see more locations, more kinds of fish ( I was hoping for some rainbow trout), more ways to customize your character and more upgrades.

This game is NOT a deep immersive story-line, nor a thrill a second action game. What it is however is a fun, entertaining game that does it's best to realistic and engaging to anybody who has any interest in fishing. It's a game I'll keep and play long after I get the full 1000 gamerpoints...at least until the next one comes out!

This game is really fun, and crazy addictive. The only warning I'd give is that learning to cast accurately can a be a little difficult. I also had a defective controller out of the box, so be cautious when you buy your copy of "The Strike". Overall it's a great game, and if you love to fish, you'll love playing this game.

It's one of those products that you just know is either going to suck, or be a whole lot of fun. Luckily, "The Strike" with the motion control fishing pole falls into the latter category, and is very enjoyable. Just be patient with learning how to cast!

Best Deals for Bass Pro Shops: The Strike Bundle with Fishing Rod -Xbox 360

The Game overall is good. The new fishing controller for the 360 I think is lacking responsivness. I think the Wii controller would be better. I got it for the 360 for mainly graphics, but also becuase it seemed to have a better overall controller. But the graphics aren't that good for an xbox 360 game. I would compare the graphics to that on the Wii. The making of your character is really weak, just a few options, but I expected that. The casting is pretty difficult if you don't go through the tutorial first...But I think the casting action for this game is unnecessary. Its not like a smooth cast as if you were actually fishing but I guess that just adds more difficulty to the game....

****THE GOOD**** The game is fun, the career mode is really good. You start out like a regular angler that has a $ gift card to Bass Pro Shop. So you go in and buy the lures you want, which has a lot better selection of lures unlike the other fishing games. The catching of the fish is hard sometimes but you get the hang of it. The bass tourny's in the game are realistic so they are hard if you can't find the fish, but very fun. So overall I think they did a good job my only complaint is the controller, it think they could have done better, but it is still a good setup. Hope this helped you and you enjoy. Thanks for reading.

Honest reviews on Bass Pro Shops: The Strike Bundle with Fishing Rod -Xbox 360

Purchased this game with a big savings from getting at Best Buy or Walmart game came fast and packaging was a little hurried i thought but still the game and fishing rod is a blast. Took about an hour to figure out how to cast the thing the instructions in the book are not too clear so would reccomend getting online and watching the tuturial that is availabe by video. Once you have the casting down it is a blast i have never fished with a lure before and this is a good training tool for that purpose and when you do get a bite the rod feels just like a real rod with a fish fighting on the end .. the fish sometimes leap out of the water when putting up a good fight!. the fishing rod is made of plastic and could of been made better as it feels like it might break at any given moment .. but as for realism -hands down the best fishing game out there.

If you're serious about driving in the game, this seat is a must have! It is so cool to have the wheel and pedals bolted down instead of everything moving around on your lap or on the floor. The only draw back is the bar that holds the wheel is in a tight spot. Placing the pedals in the right area on the plate for automatic or manual is the key. The G27 manual wheel works perfect with this seat, but keep in mind if you get the seat, be sure to get the shifter holder and assemble them together. It is sold seperate from the seat.

Really amazed by this seat. Setup was easy and didn't take long. Everything is real sturdy and has held up well. The pedal plate mounted right up to my v2 pedals. Really worth the money!

Best Deals for Playseat Evolution Alcantara Gaming Seat

This seat is very sturdy and comfortable. My only complaint is that the back is a little too straight. I solved this with an inexpensive mesh lumbar support.

The quality is excellent. I didn't find any defects in the welds or the stitching. It was easy to assemble and doesn't feel flimsy at all.

Having the wheel and pedals stay in place makes it easier to play. The plate that holds the pedals is anchored at the bottom, so will flex a bit due to leverage when you press the pedals hard, but I got used to that pretty quickly. The support for the wheel doesn't move around at all. I didn't get the optional shifter mount since my wheel has paddle shifters.

The seat is comfortable to use for long periods. The cushions are firm and supportive. The bottom cushion lifts off so you can vaccuum under it, which is handy when you have pets that like to sleep on it.

The seat is a velvety fabric with leather on the headrest, and leather accents at your shoulders and thighs. "Playseat" is embroidered in the headrest, a nice touch to add to the feeling of sitting in an expensive race car.

Honest reviews on Playseat Evolution Alcantara Gaming Seat

This product arrived undamaged and in a very reasonable amount of time. It is well built and a lot of fun. Only two complaints: The plastic "seatbelt" openings in the seatback are separated. They should snap together. Lastly it is difficult to get in and out of which I believe could lead to increased wear on the material.

Hey just to give you a brief background. I have been a Youtube Commentator & Streamer for a few years now. For the last several months I have been using the Hauppauge HD PVR for my capture device. I was interested in the Live Gamer HD because of its ability to deliver 1080P through HDMI. The PVR used component cables and could only output 720P.

So far this is the best recorder I have ever used. I am no techie, but I got the capture card installed and running with no problem. The quality is outstanding and I LOVE the Easy Button that allows you to start & stop recordings painlessly. The recordings are easily managed and the output is MP4 in 1 file no matching files together like you have to when using FRAPS.

The capture software is sufficient and will allow you to record gameplay & stream. I tested the streaming through Recentral & XSplit and both worked flawlessly, however I recommend that serious streamers use Xsplit for the added feature of scenes.

Avermedia is promoting Low CPU & help with dropped frames.

My PC Specs Are: Intel i7-2700k 3.50 GHz |8 Gig Ram |NVIDIA GeForce GTX 680 It is a newer computer so it is hard to tell just how beneficial this is to me, but I can tell you that CPU usage stays low while using the program. I also had no issues with dropped frames on TwitchTV.

I read other reviews that mentioned they were having trouble with Audio Sync and other issues. I can confirm that these issues WERE happening when the device was released, but Avermedia was pretty quick to upgrade firmware and push out updates to correct these problems. I wanted to mention that because I think it is important to recognize a company that keeps its users up-to-date with information and fixes issues promptly.

I can tell you that the latest build is running great on my system.

I created an in-depth Review & Walkthrough of what all is included and a quick tutorial of how to hookup your Live Gamer HD to Console & PC. I also demonstrate a quality test with 1080P HD Xbox360 & 1080P PC gameplay.

Before I give this review let me give you my background. I currently host the #1 MMO Live stream on twitch.tv. Now as a broadcaster I need a few things.

1 I need to be able to capture games flawlessly with the least FPS drop humanly possible. Now before I started using this card I was using Dxtory to capture my games and it was decent but still a big hit on the FPS.

2 I need to be able to maximize the quality of the stream with a minimal upload connection in order to give my audience the best streaming experience without any lag whatsoever.

I have tried quite a few capture cards in the past. BMI was a decent card, but I could not stream in 1080p 30fps. I think most I did was 720p 30fps. I tried AVerMedias own Live Gamer HD but was once again held back by resolution restrictions on it. Finally the Live Gamer HD came out. At first Xsplit, the program I use to stream with, did not cooperate well the Live Gamer HD. Like any piece of hardware there are going to be issues at launch. Now I am speaking from a streaming standpoint here. In terms of capturing PS3 and XBOX360 gameplay the Live Gamer HD is flawless. No FPS drop like when you are using Fraps or DxTory. I have 2 videos on my channel capturing the XBOX360 Mass Effect 3 in 1080p and then Battlefield 3 in 720p PS3.

When Xsplit and AVerMedia started working together to get this card to work I got excited. Finally Xsplit came out with a version that supports AVerMedia and AVerMedia updated the firmware and drivers on the card to help fix some issues with 1080p resolution encoding capturing.

Let me tell you folks when I say the Live Gamer HD has given me the best experience performance wise live streaming this past week. I currently own a GTX 690 and when I stream AT 1080p, which mind you is a CPU hog and computer killer, my stream plays as if I wasn't even streaming. The Live Gamer HD has no flaw. It caputres my screen and gives the audience that 1080p loving we all want to see at no FPS loss, or CPU bogging down.

All it took was the work of the people from AVerMedia to find the problems and fix them asap and now I have what will be my capture card for live streaming and recording games for the next few years. The Staples like button "that was easy" to capture is also pretty nifty for recording console gaming on the go.

Specs:

i7 2600k OC to 4.5

16GB Corsair Vengeance RAM

GTX 690 EVGA

The Card also came with an Xsplit 3 month personal license code which is good for anyone trying to get a stream going on twitch.tv or any other streaming website. Came with all cables needed to get started. I would be surprised if AVerMedia can one up this card in future.

Best Deals for AVerMedia C985 Live Gamer HD 1080p Capture Card

I've used programs like Fraps and Camtastia for years to record PC footage, and while those usually work just fine, you do come across games that suffer frame rate and response time issues when using a software screen recorder. This is even more of an issue when streaming live. Games like Alan Wake, Metro 2033, FSX+mods, etc all have issues with Fraps for me, even with a 1090T CPU and 16GB RAM. Often the frame rate will be halved or worse when using a CPU-intensive screen recorder, which is unacceptable for any kind of serious work.

With this card, you don't have to worry about that anymore. All installs easily, from hardware to software, and then just load the program and press the glowing red button whenever you want to record the screen. Captures anything on-screen at 1920x1080p down to 640x480. Also records from external devices like game consoles and other PCs, but it really shines when recording the PC it's installed in. Passthrough HDMI & DVI cables/adapters are included and the image is nice and clean. Also worth noting it captures 4:2:2 YUV color.

I've not had any A/V sync issues like some seem to be reporting. The only small issue I have is with the software, which at this point is somewhat limited. It's supposed to be updated so more customization options are included in the future (for custom bit rate, frame rate, codecs, etc.) As of now you can only choose a few preset options. It would also be nice to be able to record at 60fps at 1080p, but you're limited to 30fps. Lower resolutions provide 60fps, but 1080p you're out of luck. Also, if you want to record through something like VirtualDub using DirectShow or whatever, you can do that, although it doesn't seem to capture using the on-card hardware encoder.

The Live Gamer HD also works very nicely when live streaming, and comes with a 3 month personal license for Xsplit at the time I got it. It's not fully supported by it yet, but once Xsplit v1.1 supports the card this will be even more awesome.

I'd recommend this card entirely. It may cost you a bit upfront, but the cost of a stand-alone PC to record externally is going to be even more, and even if you have an extremely powerful CPU you're still going to have more of a hit with that than you do with this. It also encodes directly to compressed MP4 up to 15,000kbps, so even slower hard drives writing at 40MB/s have no problem keeping up. For both users with older PCs who have CPU usage issues and newer PCs who are serious about the highest-performance on a single PC when capturing, the Live Gamer HD is great.

Honest reviews on AVerMedia C985 Live Gamer HD 1080p Capture Card

UPDATE 8-17-2012: If you read my previous review below, you can see a host of issues that I originally had with this card. It really did feel like the card was completely useless. I have been reporting issues and giving feedback on their support forums. Through this process, AVerMedia approached me and asked if I would be willing to help test an unreleased beta build of their driver. I can tell you that once that version of the driver is officially released, the card will function nearly perfect. That driver release, combined with the upcoming features being added, makes this card a good buy.

AVerMedia is a good company that obviously stands by its products and works to serve their customers. I give this 4 stars instead of 5, simply because of the initial trouble that I had with it. It feels like they really should have done some more QA before fully releasing this product. But, they have fixed the major issues at this point. If I purchased this card and had access to the test driver from the beginning, this would have been 5 stars all the way.

PREVIOUS REVIEW: As of 8-13-2012, I must advise against purchasing this product. The following is a list of the major issues with the card (not minor gripes):

1) Recorded sound is distorted and over-amplified

2) Audio has issues syncing the longer you record, anything over 5 minutes results in a 1-2 second delay of sound

3) FPS is variable. Despite setting it to record at 30 FPS, it's a crapshoot between 28 and 30 FPS. You never know what you'll get

The above issues combine for a very bad experience using this card. It produces 100% useless videos. I feel like AVerMedia is trying to correct these issues, albeit slowly. But so far it seems like each update has added more issues or, worse yet, amplified existing issues.

So, I purchased this so I could capture some PC Gaming with hardware H.264 encoding. This thing performs like a beast. It captures, up to 1080p at 30FPS, flawlessly with no hit to FPS at all. However, the way you hook it up to get your computer that the card installed to is a little tricky.

You need 2 HDMI cables (provided), and a monitor or display device (Television) capable of 1080p or the resolution you want to record in. You need to take the HDMI out from your video card, and plug it into the HDMI in of the Live Gamer HD, then take the HDMI out of the Live Gamer HD and put it into the HDMI in of your Display Device (Television or LCD). Basically the Live Gamer HD just mirrors what your graphics card is doing and captures it in real time with RAW data. This offers massive performance over programs like Fraps or Camtasia as they use system resources while the game is running.

This device isn't limited to PC Recording in that crazy config.

Out of the box, you can hook up your Xbox 360 and record beautiful 1080p video, take lovely snap shots and share them with anyone. You can live stream using Twitch, Ustream or a custom URL if you know all those settings. I did a few test streams and it ended up looking great on the other end. With the amount of settings the software has, you can easily tweak it to your hearts content and to what your current cable internet package allows you in the form of upload. Be careful if you set it too high, you will not be able to play multiplayer without severe lag.

Now, onto what I hate, and that's the movie industry. There's this thing called HDCP or High Definition Copy Protection, the MPAA (devil) thought maybe you and me might use HD video feeds such as from our Blu Ray players, PS3, and other devices to record content that we have. The implemented this encryption in all hardware since the beginning of HDMI almost, so it's no doubt that most everything has it on there. I'm not sure why the Xbox 360 doesn't have this on there, maybe they opted not to spend all that damn money on licensing or they just didn't care if people recorded their gameplay to show others and promote their product free of charge?

Well, if you want to record your PS3, iPhone, iPad, Blu Ray Player, or any other device that might connect to HDMI and was made in the last decade or so.. you're gonna have a bad time.

I attached some screenshots from the software of this application and it does have HDCP restrictions. It's not the fault of the software company, or the hardware. You can't find a hacked software that disables HDCP, it's a HARDWARE encryption. Without going into to many details, suffice to say, it's some next level crap.

If you do some googling, and try to find out that your PS3, MacBook, iPad, and any other devices that have HDCP can't be bypassed without 100's of dollars worth of equipment, it's pooh talk. Amazon, the wonderful company they are, actually sell the best and cheapest option to bypass HDCP. The product is a Sweell 1x2 HDMI splitter, I will try to link the item in the description so you guys can order it as well.

After you hook that baby up, HDCP is rendered invalid, and this hardware can really take off!

10/10 would buy this again. I'm actually installing the hardware on an Intel Atom PC so I can dedicate it to recording all sorts of inputs. Because this PCI device has a hardware encoder, the only processing power you need is enough to copy to a hard drive, and of course h.264 playback.

Feel free to ask any questions, you can check videos out on my youtube as well that I record with.Sewell 2 Port 1x2 Powered Hdmi Splitter V 1.3b 3D Certified-Up to 1080p

Let me start off by saying the whole over the top violence and gore thing is just a marketing technique to generate more attention and controversy toward State of Emergency. It's like one long insane Ichy and Scratchy cartoon. The blood and gore is also optional so a wider audience can play. Basicaly you just run around and create a tremendous amount of havoc. While it can get boring it is actualy pretty entertaining and addictive. I reccomend you stay clear of Revolution mode and dive right into the Chaos mode. Revolution mode is a bunch of boring missions that take place in the riots, while chaos is more of an arcade style beat em up that you take place in. All in all you can't go too wrong buying this game. It is only 20 bucks and if nothing more it will at least entertain you for a couple of days. I suggest you rent it first and see how interested you still are when you have to return it, then you can properly determine whether or not it's worth a purchase.

As others have said before DISREGARD everything that you have read or heard about the PS2 form of this game, Xbox fixed all of those problems!

This is def. one of my favorite games that I have played yet. Its just an awsome game to do if you want to shut off your brain for a few hours and just want to go around randomly killing people with a wide variety of guns and other fun gadgets.

The plot and basis for the game did not have that much depth to it, but thats expected. I did like all the missions even if they did start to get a little repetitive after the first 30.

The graphics were good, but I didnt like the movement of some of the characters, some of them seemed very stiff and hard to control.

So as I said if you just want to play a fun game for awhile, that doesent make you have to starin your brain then def. rent/buy State of Emergency!

Shanghai Pocket is a wonderful game, and has a lot of charm with its graphics and music. The music is repetitive, but it isn't annoying, and the animals that you free by completing each stage are a nice touch; interesting that they match the Chinese Zodiac! My only complaints are 1) The size of the tiles: You WILL need a Gameboy magnifier with a light, my eyesight is fine, but would strain others with less than good eyesight or have tired eyes, and 2) The lack of a save game means that you have to play all 12 stages to watch the endgame feature! Switching the game off, or selecting "quit" and switching off will erase your progress, and it's tiring to play each stage without a break; thank goodness for Nintendo AC adapters! These two complaints prevented a five star rating, but it is still a wonderful game and I highly recommend it!

Ilove the game Shanghai pocket. Mahjongg is my all time favorite game to play I have it downloaded on my personal computer and play it as often as I can. My only complaint is that you can not save your game so you can continue at another time(when the boss goes to lunch) and you can save the chinese horoscope symbols that you've already saved. You have to start all over again. Some different symbols would be nice to try instead of the two choices you have for each row. But the different layouts are great and being able to set different time limits on your game is good too. I really love it. The only problems I now have is carpal tunnel on my wrists and eye strain because I can't put the game down. Thanks alot . Some oriental music playing in the background would of suited this game much better than the one that plays in the background. It's got a cute little tune to it..

Torchlight Review

Torchlight

This game sure comes with some serious pedigree: Travis Baldree, designer of Fate, and Max Schaefer and Erich Schaefer, co-designers of Diablo I & II put their heads together and came up with an action hack&slash isometric RPG game that can appeal to all ages. The result is a good game that will keep us hacking and summoning until the ...3rd coming that is.

In fact, the game developers made sure to often pay tribute to the DIABLO Series: from the background music while at the town-camp (you would recognize those Tristam guitar riffs anywhere!), to the draining health and mana fountains and to the voice announcing & warning, you cannot miss the timeless DIABLO influences. Having said that, I found TORCHLIGHT to be something between a DIABLO and a FATE game.

If you have experienced any of the FATE games you will be reminded of them often, although the heroes here are not children. The village NPCs will keep giving you straightforward quests (usually a go-and-fetch excuse to dwell deeper into the dungeon). Extra dungeons, however, can be accessed by accepting the extra quests of the male NPC in the south and by purchasing dungeon maps of various levels from the local merchants. Also, sometimes a spectral animal appears while in a dungeon: slaying it will open up a bonus dungeon where better equipment often becomes available. There is no traveling to/from town while in a bonus dungeon, so you better keep an empty inventory before entering it.

Yes, you do get a pet (a dog or a cat but you can interchange them by purchasing and feeding them a special fish) and, yes, you can transform them by feeding them different types of fishes. Fishing is carried out in pretty much the same fashion: you wait for two concentric circles to merge and their color to change from pale blue to purple but it is less important than it was in FATE (so far I brought in nothing else but fish no equipment or valuable items).

Now, when not playing an AD&D RPG (where I always choose to be a Paladin), I like to play other RPGs as a warlock, a fighting mage. The Alchemist class allows you to both cast powerful spells and exchange blows in the midst of the action (the other available classes is the Destroyer and the Vanquisher). The Destroyer is the up-close-and-personal tank warrior whereas the Vanquisher is the ranger.

When leveling up as an Alchemist, make sure to get both the (steampunk!) golems and the Ember Strike spell. Together with some good shielding spells, nothing can stand in your way.

Try not to go broke. At first I though, "finally, an RPG that is not stingy with its money". But that was only at first. Items are less expensive at the shops but (surprise!) they also sell for a pittance. The good news is that money drops like rain from slain foes. The money-hole is the enchanter: attempting to further enchant your equipment will deplete your funds faster than you would imagine! And you also run a considerable risk of having all of its enchantments removed. No post-dated checks are honored. No credit cards accepted. I tried.

You WILL get swarmed so be prepared. Place healing potions, defensive and knockback spells on quick-slots (1-0); equip your pet with self or group healing spells and a powerful summoning spell; and never forget to first stay alive and then keep pounding on your enemies. In the heat of the battle it is best to deactivate (Alt-key) the fallen-items labels (more on this later on) and to always keep an eye on your health and mana levels. Respawning is not free: it will cost you either time, money or experience.

The inventory seems small but, in fact, it is more than adequate. Potions and scrolls are stackable up to 20 and (more importantly) every item takes up only one inventory square (no, you do not have to carry your fishing pole, it is just there).

You can send your pet to town to sell off its inventory and the time it needs to return is much less that what it did in FATE.

And there are treasure rooms you can only access by finding and pulling levers (sometimes in specific sequence) to open doors or turn bridges.

Now, some negative points:

(1) the game is only a dungeon crawler, there are no outdoors locations.

(2) the graphics of the the spells are very impressive but they can become really confusing as well. Even at maximum settings, unless the fallen-items labels are deactivated you will not be able to actually see much of the battle. That means alternating between fighting and looting but it also means missing some important interactive objects (levers or ballistas). Also, when electric, fire, ice and poison spells get mixed the result is not something one can discern friend from foe in. It makes no tactical difference (you cannot harm yourself or your company) but it sure would be more enjoyable if you could aim more than...80% of the time.

(3) the environments are beautifully designed but your path is often blocked by obstacles that visually you could easily bypass. Sometimes you find your hero running in place, stopped by a ...pebble.

Finally, some closing suggestions to the developers for a future patch: (a) add the possibility to order our pet to bring back potions and identification scrolls when sent into town, and (b) make it possible to change class in mid-game (keeping the level and redistributing the skill points).

All in all, TORCHLIGHT is a very enjoyable experience. It is easy to master, it is beautiful and it is fun for the whole family.

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

This game gets the inevitable comparisons to Diablo, but for me personally, it is far more enjoyable. For one, it is more simplistic...you choose from one of three classes/characters and a pet (either a cat or a dog), then you simply start adventuring. The colors used are brighter and more eye popping, in a way. The story itself is pretty well written for what it is, and there are plenty of side quests to keep you occupied as well. The combat mechanics are intuitive and easy to grasp, inventory is also easy to manage, collision detection is spot on....no real gameplay issues that I can think of. Plus, if you get bored, you can always go fishing (in game). Additionally, though Steam and elsewhere, there is a large mod community, so you can further develop and enjoy the game. With part two coming out soon (and part one be offered free as a preorder bonus at some sites), there is no reason not to pick this game up. It really is worth every penny.

Enjoy!

Runic Games produced Torchlight in approximately 8 months. Of course Runic's personnel included the team (formerly of Blizzard North) that designed Diablo and Diablo II, as well as the creator of Fate. Those who have played Fate will instantly recognize the stark similarities here. Torchlight is bigger, prettier, smoother and the combat engine is fantastic.

You will LOVE this game; it's got everything an ARPG should have with a few notable absences: multiplayer and the ability to customize your toon. However the game is moddable, flexible and provides hours and hours of fun.

Torchlight II will be out soon and it is bigger, better, shinier, more customizable, has multiplayer and will be terrific...due out this year.

This is a clone knock off from the fate game series. Its fun and well done, Graphics work well, audio is good, support is there if you have a problem, It can be a bit laggy on even the best computers when crossing over in to a new territory. There are walkthroughs, cheats and tips available all over the internet. I liked it. Great game concepts. Good combat system. Item alterations and skills are well thought out. Its doesnt have alot of replayablity. The same quests are there everytime. You only have 3 classes to choose from to play though so not alot of variety there. There is only one town, and set of salesmen in the town, it varies very little. Gold is pretty easy to get, there are side quests and a optional dungeon to do for more exp and gold and items. After i tried all 3 of the classes it was pretty much done and got very boring. You want a game to replay over and over..this is not it.

When this game was first revealed many were unimpressed as it seemed like a rehash of the 3DS game super Mario 3D World. Then we saw more and saw how wrong we were. This game is amazing. It is the culmination of all Mario games and a mix of old and new. Before even going into the multiplayer aspects I have to say that this game has so much to offer.

There are many secrets to unlock (including a 5th character), so many modes of gameplay and so much innovation. Whether it's the double cherry that creates copies of your character or the powerups that let you fight ghosts or the throwbacks to old powerups like the Kuribo's shoe, this game has it all. There are levels with Music reminiscent of Super Mario 64, Boss battles that are incredibly fun and amazing visuals throughout. This game must be seen to be believed. Running at 720p (upscaled to 1080p) at 60 fps, the game is gorgeous! At times you will simply stop and look and admire the visuals.

Speaking of the levels there is so much variety putting this on the same playing field as the Galaxy games (made by the same team) and other 3D Mario games. There is a level with silhouettes, a level that plays like an overhead shooter (with the double cherry as special powerup) and a Mario kart themed level and that's just some of it. The levels start out somewhat easy but this is to ease you into the game. It gets harder as you progress and it makes you want to play until you beat it.

The music is amazing and varies between big band music and orchestral remixes of older Mario music. It really fits the game well and you will want to listen for hours.

Now about the multiplayer, it's fun but be warned, the more players, the more chaotic it becomes. This isn't a bad thing though. Playing in single player and then in multiplayer will give you very different experiences. Playing with four players locks the camera up while playing in single player or with less than 4 characters allows freer roaming camera angles. As for controls, there are so many options, ranging from the gamepad, to the pro ctontroller, thewiimote to the nunchuck and the classic controller and they are all awesome!

While there isn't online co-op, the truth is that online co-op isn't needed and the game is fun without it, however there is an option to go online and submit your playthroughs of level and access other peoples' playthroughs and race against other peoples' ghost data. There are also stamps that can be obtained in the game and shared on miiverse and take part in the online community.

The different modes in this game are amazing, whether its speed running with the clock starting at 100 seconds, or the bonus levels, there is so much variety offered (including a hidden bonus game) and the game never stays constant and is always changing things up. There is no way to get bored and so much to unlock. This is the reason to buy a Wii U right now if you haven't yet!

This game marks the beginning of a new era of awesomeness for Nintendo and the Wii U. Its time to get hyped!

Color me surprised. I thought there was no way Nintendo could possibly match the Super Mario Galaxy games in terms of quality and creativity, and yet, somehow, they have with this gem. Super Mario 3D World has somehow taken the core premise of Super Mario 3D Land (it itself a fantastic Mario game and essential for any 3DS Library) and launched it into the stratosphere with exceptional execution, staggering density of content, and breathtaking creativity. It's amazing to me how a game that is, at its core, centered around the simple joys of running, jumping, exploring, and playing, can be so full of brilliance and inspiration. If it's not already obvious, my wife and I both absolutely love this masterpiece. This is a *huge* game full of ideas and concepts both new and nostalgic, and while I will try to keep spoilers to a minimum, this will be a long, detailed review. It's the only way to do such a wonderful game justice. Either jump ship now or continue reading, you've been warned.

The story in Super Mario 3D World is as simple as it is in any Mario game, but 3D World's story is noteworthy simply because Peach's kidnapping is not the plot device used to introduce the exquisite gameplay (it also shows Mario and Luigi actually fixing something as plumbers, something I cannot recall a main series Mario game showing before, so that's special :D).While going for an evening stroll, Mario, Luigi, Peach, and Blue Toad stumble across a clear pipe, out of which pops a unique pixie-like princess from the Sprixie kingdom. She then informs them that Bowser has attacked and taken over her kingdom and requests help when, all of a sudden, Bowser pops out of the pipe, kidnaps this new princess, and absconds back into the recently conquered Sprixie Kingdom. Our four heroes give chase into the pipe to help their new friend, like any good Samaritans would do, thus beginning 3D World's platforming euphoria. Interspersed throughout the adventure are very simple cutscenes that are enjoyable and appealing.

The visuals in 3D World are exceptional. This is the first Mario outing in genuinely glorious HD, all at a smooth 60 fps, and it is beyond gorgeous. I've always loved the art design in Mario games. The focus on clean, imaginative style and vibrant color has always made Mario games stand out as some of the most beautiful releases on their platform, and 3D World is no exception. Impressive lighting effects and exceptionally well done textures make levels like Bowser's oceanside castle during a sunset, or sunny grasslands, or snowy wonderlands such beautiful, enchanting playgrounds to run and jump through. Character designs, whether friend or foe, are all very nostalgic and the new ones feel very fresh at the same time. Seeing classic enemies like Chargin Chuck from SMWorld is so nostalgic. The audio is equally charming, with many iconic sound effects returning. The real audio highlight, however, is the soundtrack. Anybody worried that this game would drop the beautiful orchestrations of the Galaxy games can rest easy. Whether the tracks are reminiscent of the symphonic majesty of the Galaxy soundtracks or more of the jazzy 3D Land variety, all songs in 3D World are super catchy and full of warm nostalgic magic, as befits a Mario game (even brand new songs immediately cultivated nostalgia in me). You'll be humming the tunes long after you turn off the game. From a visual and audio perspective, this game is a definite winner and a showcase for the Wii-U.

I've always loved the core concept behind Super Mario 3D Land/World: Take nostalgic gameplay concepts and goals from the classic Super Mario Bros. 1-3 and Super Mario World, and play through them from Mario's perspective in a 3-D game with all the refinements and conventions 3-D Mario games have introduced over the years. It's a perfect marriage of classic conventions and creative innovation, made so that fans of every style of Mario can enjoy themselves. For example, each level has you going for the end-pole as your goal, just like the 2-D Mario classics. However, each level features three green stars (first seen in Galaxy 2) that encourages 3-D Mario style exploration of the levels in order to collect them, and the levels are so well designed and massive, you'll enjoy every second you spend exploring them. It's a marriage of two different Mario styles that compliment each other very well and offer something to every Mario fan. That's great. The world map may seem to be styled after the New Super Mario Bros. games at first glance, except that you're given free rein to run all over the whole thing like some sort of 3-D playground overworld, another example of 3-D and 2-D Mario combining into something new and special, appealing to everybody.

When you turn on a Mario game, what do you except from the gameplay? Perfectly refined, intuitive control mechanics that make the character on screen feel like an extension of yourself? What about insightful, brilliant level design that perfectly compliments these mechanics and gives lots of variety to the experience? You'd probably want plenty of power ups to give even more satisfaction to the experience too right? Thankfully, 3D World nails every one of these core aspects, and expands them to previously unseen heights through new ideas and flawless refinement.

Even the controls feel like a perfect marriage between classic and modern Mario games, resulting in an entirely new experience. Like the classic 2-D Mario games, you can't double or triple jump, which is jarring at first but ultimately makes for unique, old-school gameplay that feels new for a 3-D Mario game. The rolling spin and rolling long-jump (returning from 3D Land) are wonderful additions to Mario's acrobatic repertoire. Jumping and stomping on enemies has never felt more satisfying. On the new side of things, you can knock shells off of Koopas and, in addition to throwing them as always, you can go inside and ride them as they slide along the floor. Talk about a blast! The new clear pipes introduce a ton of new gameplay possibilities too, such as choosing which branching paths to take, how to dodge the obstacles or enemies that can use the pipes too, or being able to hurl fireballs inside. So many new gameplay concepts, and all are super fun.

What's awesome about all of this is that you get to choose between several equally well-designed characters to play as, and all offer unique abilities and traits. Mario is an all-around balanced character, Luigi's controls are more "slippery" and he jumps higher, Peach runs slower but can hover like in SMB2 which makes her good for beginners, and Blue Toad runs faster than the others but he drops faster after jumps. That's not all, as there is an unlockable character with their own unique abilities and gameplay style too! This is such a great aspect of 3D World. Having so many unique characters practically guarantees that gamers of any skill level or play style will get the most out of their experience with the game, and that's awesome. Bravo Nintendo!

The suits that return from 3D Land (Tanooki, Fire, Boomerang Bros., propeller box, etc) all play extremely well and are super satisfying to use. New suits/items, such as the already-iconic Cat Suit or the new canon box fit in with the rest very well. The Cat Suit is ridiculously fun. Others are bizarrely appealing, like the double cherry, which creates a new clone of your character each time you grab one. Imagine the hilarious chaos that results from 10-12 fire balls bouncing around hurled from 5-6 Marios with fire suits. Boss fights that incorporate the double cherry are super fun too. There are many new items you can grab and carry along with you, like a baseball to throw at enemies, or potted Piranha plants that can rapidly eat enemies and other obstacles. Of course, these are just a few examples, and the game features many more.

The utterly brilliant level designs compliment the gameplay mechanics beautifully. There are so many new level ideas for a 3-D Mario game too, including but not limited to: riding a Loch Ness Yoshi monster through a tropical paradise, a level exploring a Japanese-style castle, a light/shadow/silhouette themed sewer level that really messes with your perception of size and distance, a level based on the classic Super Mario Kart (complete with overwhelmingly nostalgic music), the Captain Toad puzzle levels, the mystery houses, the speed run levels, a golden express segment that makes New Super Mario Bros. 2 look conservative by comparison... I could go on forever. Although a bit on the easy side, boss fights in the game overall are better than they were in 3D Land, full of variety and new ideas (and I LOVED the Bowser fights in 3D Land, by the way). Seriously, this game is bursting with creativity. New concepts are introduced at a breathtaking speed. Much like Galaxy 1 & 2, Super Mario 3D World feels like standing before a seemingly bottomless well of brilliant new ideas. If it doesn't top Galaxy 1 or 2 in that respect, 3D World at least matches them. That alone is impressive, especially since the overall focus of 3D World is more "conventional" in comparison to the mind-bending Galaxy games. The fact that it is easily as big as the first Galaxy game makes this even more amazing. Once you beat the main worlds, several more pop up, and the farther you get into the game, the more challenge there is to be had. This game has a fantastic density of content.

Another aspect that makes Super Mario 3D World a milestone for the series is its excellent multiplayer. This is the first 3-D Mario game to implement multiplayer and it is incredible! I was worried this would have the lazy multiplayer of the NSMB games where all characters play the same and offer no real variety, but thankfully 3D World delivers the goods. Each player gets to control a unique character (no generic, recolored Toads for player 4, thankfully), and as I said earlier, each character controls uniquely as well, so everyone will have their own experience! It also never become frustrating like it does in the NSMB games, where other players too often become obstacles to your enjoyment rather than enhancing it. In 3D World, it's super fun and really hearkens back to the old days where playing video games with friends and loved ones on the couch was a bonding, joyful experience. Any game that my wife and I bond over always gets bonus points in my book, and 3D World is superb in that regard. The game is so well designed that you will get the most out of your time with the game, regardless of whether you're playing alone or with others. That's awesome. Bravo Nintendo!

You might wonder how 3DW functions as a Wii-U exclusive and what features there are. Well, for starters, the touch screen and mic are used in several, unique ways that affect the levels you play through, adding complexity to the mix. The gyroscope can be used to get different angles in the levels, which is really helpful for finding collectibles. There are so many other things you can do using the gamepad, it's easy to lose count. Personally, I find the gamepad a lot more useful with more complex series, like The Legend of Zelda for example, but it works surprisingly well in 3D World. Miiverse is also utilized in the same fun way it was in NSMBU, but has been deepened with collectible stamps hidden in the levels that adds spice to messages. I like the Miiverse system here, it's a nice novelty at the very least. Overall, the Wii-U exclusive features don't feel like gimmicks, thankfully, and the game works well because of them and not in spite of them, which is all I ask for.

So, to all you who stuck around with this review, I really cannot emphasize it enough: this game is an absolute masterpiece. I really can't think of a single flaw or complaint to say about the game. Nintendo EAD has been on a roll for years with 3-D Mario releases, and with each new game, I always doubt and worry that they can't possibly top the game that came before it. With Super Mario 3D World, they have indeed continued their streak of top-tier quality. It may not have the brilliant gravity defying concept of the Galaxy games, but the sheer amount of creativity and innovation they poured into this game despite it being more "conventional" in its style just astounds me even more. The huge addition of well-executed multiplayer makes this a 3-D Mario milestone in yet another way. I bought this game at my local *cough cough* as soon as it opened and have been playing since then (alternating with The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds, another masterpiece). In addition to its awesome creativity, this is one of the most celebratory Mario games I've ever played too, filled with salutes and homages that pretty much every Mario fan can appreciate and enjoy to the fullest. So do I recommend it? Oh yeah, you better believe I do. This is the undisputed Wii-U "killer app" and is an absolutely essential game for any Wii-U library. I'd even say the game is worth buying the system over. Seriously, it is such a masterwork in game design. Buy it immediately, enjoy the game either solo or with others, and experience another magical masterpiece with Nintendo's famous plumber hero.

I've been playing this game for 9 hours straight so far and I'm loving every minute of it.

I'm the kind of person to take my time with video games! I like to find little secrets and hidden passages. So far I've gotten every green star (and stamp) in every level up until 6-2. I need to take a rest though. My eyes are killing me!

Anyway, more about the game!..

It is absolutely a MUST if you have a wii u. It's got those occasional classic frustrating levels, but it's got so much more this time around since the last installment of the super mario series.

For starters, it is very creative! There are many little details you'll notice in this game that will make you go "OH MY GOD... LOOK AT _____ !. Me, my two little brothers, and my sister were playing multiplayer for about an hour and it was MADDNESS! So many laughs and so much fun! It's pretty much like new super mario bros, except you can walk in all directions and (obviously) do more intricate things!

The artistic design to this game is amazing as well, I can't express how happy I am to see mario in HD. The worlds look more beautiful than ever!

I also enjoyed the throwback looks they gave the characters icons! Made me feel like I was little kid again! I also enjoyed the fact that on the map, you're not secluded to just using the directional pad to automatically move you from one world to the next.. Nope! You walk around the map in free direction!!! Amazing!!

I give it a 10/10 I love it!!! Worth the money for sure.!

I must admit up front I rarely if ever follow soccer. That being said, I have played this game far more then I have played either NCAA 10 or Madden 10. The graphics are great, and the environment of the game from the crowd sounds to the announcers make me feel like I have been watching English Premier League football my whole life. This game is very addictive, and once you get the hang of the player controls you will find yourself learning a lot about the flow of game. At first I was offside quite a bit. Now I find myself looking for that extra pass that might result in a higher percentage shot on goal. I find the AI to be pretty challenging (for me), and I have it set on the default setting. Against good teams I find my games are very close. Sometimes a team will come in against me and just kill me. I think as I play more I will learn a lot more about the who's who in powerhouse teams.

If you are a sports game fan, I think you will like this game. Its fun to play solo or against a computer opponent (face to face). Didn't try online yet.

I know that the FIFA games tend to get a little better every year, and I always think to myself," This year's installment is great, but..."

Not with FIFA 10.

I've only played the manager mode with the team I support the most, AS Roma, but simply from that experience, what a difference in the game play. I liked last year's addition of an actual referee pointing the flag in the direction of team possession, so of course, that made it back to FIFA 10. New additions to the FIFA game include; a full schedule for your team, including preseason friendlies with teams in your league, and with teams all over Europe; improved player likenesses, including the way indivual players move (Francesco Totti actually moves like Francesco Totti); weather changes to go with day and night games, including rain and snow; in the rain snow games, most of the players on your squad switch to longsleeves, which was a feature missing from the previous FIFAs; it's easier for defenders to tackle and win possession, which makes the game more difficult but lends to the realistic aspects a real match; and right and left backs can actually push up the sides of the field, which allows them to score and gives more team members besides just your strikers and attacking midfielders a chance on goal.

The only problem I have with the game is the price, and the fact that I'm a full time student without the time to play the game as much as I'd like. Fully recommended to any fans of the previous games. And just think to yourself once you play it...it only gets better from here.

Fifa 2010 is a pretty solid soccer game. Allow me to break it down some:

Decent AI:

Playing on the harder difficulty levels, the AI still makes awful decisions from time-to-time. Defenders under no pressure make awful panicky clearances, forwards make runs while keeping a defender close and between them and the ball, et cetera. That said, overall the AI has improved greatly from earlier versions, and it makes the game that much more fun.

Improved physics & 360 controls:

The high points of this game are the physics and 360 controls. As opposed to previous versions, you have very precise directional control of everything. This is also somewhat frustrating, because it greatly increases the sensitivity of everything you do. The ball movements, player movements, and player clashes seem more real than ever before. It feels much closer to real soccer than any other game I've played before.

Manager mode:

They made a big deal out of how improved manager mode is. Frankly, I see little difference, except simulating games takes longer, I'm guessing due to the increasing number of variables taken into account. But I still see outlandish results, but like Fifa 2008, it seems fairly reasonable a majority of the time. Of course there's some things like salary caps going on here, but nothing makes a big difference in my opinion. I still enjoy manager mode, it's just not a very big change from before. The one thing here that I still find frustrating, is even if you start with a 5-star team, it's incredibly hard to transfer star players. They simply don't want to play for you until you have many stars. But by the time you can get these manager stars, some of the star older players (e.g., Ronaldinho) have retired.

I do find some frustration with the auto-coach mode in manager mode. The idea is that auto-coach will rotate your squad based on fatigue and injuries. This is great, but it makes a lot of changes. This is annoying because I generally have 1 set of players I consider my top starers. I would like to be able to save this lineup, and quickly reset my team to that lineup for big matches. Instead, I have to redo the entire squad manually. I would turn off auto-coach, but fatigue seems to be a very big factor now, so that would be even more frustrating. Also, sometimes the auto-coach does questionable things like put a midfielder into the goalkeepers position, when the goalkeeper is fully energized and not injured.

Be A Pro:

I created my own pro player, and have been working to increase his attributes. This is a painful and annoying process--by far the most frustrating thing for me in Fifa 2010. First of all, you need to play on the harder difficulty levels to unlock accomplishments. This is fine, but it should explicitly warn you about this, especially if you're playing a game on amateur and you navigate to the accomplishments menu. In addition, I feel like the logic to determine when you are achieving these accomplishments is dreadful. For example, consider these two accomplishments:

1. Find your team mates with 2 different crosses in a match

2. Set up 2 goals with crosses in a match

I just played a match, and unlocked accomplishment 2, but not accomplishment 1. Uh what? Other accomplishments are equally frustrating, especially the "beat x players with skill moves." It seems you must be painfully close to the defending player when pulling off these moves, before it will credit you with beating him with a skill move. This is annoying because you can clearly throw off defenders with skill moves from further away and even the announcers comment on how you just rocked that particular defender, but you get no progress for it in the accomplishments.

Seriously, I could go on and on about the accomplishments not being picked up, it's a very buggy detection system. Or if it's behaving as intended, it needs to be more clear to the player about why they aren't picking up the accomplishments.

Overall Fifa 2010 is a solid game, but I still expect more from such a high-budget production.

Honest reviews on FIFA Soccer 10 - Xbox 360

I just got the game a few days ago but things I noticed so far. The game is really fluid and a little faster than 09. Quick free kicks when you get fouled mid field the player will simply pick up the ball place it down and GAME ON GARTH. Getting carded is no longer a cut shot but simply the ref runs up to the player and books him (the camera angle stays the same).

Dribbling is much better you can now absorb contact and push the ball.

Again game speed is much faster so you don't have to use turbo all the time and burn out your players come 2nd half. Shooting from distance now works in 09 and previous years the only to score was on a breakaway or 10 feet from the goalie (Gerrard Lampard we doing work this year)

Let me stop rambling. Fifa 10 is a great game alot of people would say PES. I was one of those guys but Fifa 09 really put the ball in their court and 10 just improves off last years game.

Madden junkies that want to play a sports game where it doesn't take an hour to play a game pick up Fifa you can probably get about 4-5 matches out in the same time it takes to play a madden game online.

I bought FIFA 10 a couple of weeks ago, mostly to occupy my time at the end of an increasingly boring summer. I hadn't purchased an entry in the FIFA series since 07, so I was unsure about how different the gameplay would be and feel. Extremely different is probably the best description, but almost completely in a good way. The motions of the players are fluid, the graphics are extremely realistic, and the commentating, though not always spot on, is consistent enough to be amusing. The sheer number of teams one can play as is also astounding to me, with leagues from Europe, Japan, Korea, the US, Mexico, and Brazil all making an appearance.

The game does have a few flaws, mostly with the AI. For example, when the ball is not under anyone's control, the player you are controlling usually goes for it even though there may be a teammate controlled by the computer who is yards closer. The chip shot is also too easy to score with on a breakaway, but I hear this problem has been fixed in the World Cup version. The goalie sometimes has trouble judging when to come off his line, which can be frustrating in a close game with a friend.

Overall, however, this FIFA is a very fun game to play, especially online or with friends. I highly recommend it.

Time passes really fast when you are playing this game. The first six hours went by in the blink of an eye yesterday ... my character is at level 10 and I feel like I have barely scratched the surface of anything. If you like these kinds of games, you will be hooked because Bethesda has managed to create something which really nails it on every level. I am a heavily magic oriented player so I spent most of my time so far in the mages' guild in winterhold. For some reason though the Dark Brotherhood wants me dead and sent an assassin to kill me. I was just messing around with some conjuration spells in a forest glen and the assassin was killed by this flame creature I had conjured before I even knew what was going on. Looted the body and found a note saying they want me dead. Stuff like that just happens and it is awesome. Dungeons btw are really fun and very well designed.

I do have one gripe that I see has been addressed by some other reviewers who gave a low rating for the game on amazon. That is that you have to pause the action to switch spells. In Oblivion, I could instantly switch spells with the d-pad and then cast them with RB while wielding a sword and shield. In Skyrim, you must assign a spell to one hand or the other, so it kind of feels like you have lost your RB button. I can understand this complaint.

However, if you have posted about this, keep in mind that your RB button is not idle. It has been reserved for shouts, and you will obtain shouts eventually although you have to play along the main quest until you get the first one. I have none as yet because I am focused on the mages' guild for now. However once you do you get shouts, you can instantly cast them with RB while also dual wielding whatever you choose.

The bottom line though is that this game is basically like Oblivion on steroids. If you liked Oblivion and spent 200+ hours playing it like I did, you will be addicted to Skyrim. Having playing all through yesterday and now it's 4 am and I'm getting up to play some more rather than get some sleep, this is probably the best game I've ever played. That's a lot of praise coming from a life long gamer. Again, so long as you like RPG's as opposed to say, MW3 (which a lot of people are playing non stop right now as well), this is the game for you. BTW $65 almost feels like a very low price if you were to actually measure out how many hours you are going to spend playing this game over the next year or so, and divide it by $65. I could spend $65 in a heartbeat at say, a Jets game at the Meadowlands, but that money goes a LONG way when playing Skyrim.

To sum up...why am I wasting my time typing this review? Time to go play Skyrim.

First and foremost, I have to give props to the art department at Bethesda. The art direction for this game is so far above earlier titles that even comparing them to this game is utterly pointless. Its literally in a class by itself and this is evident everywhere you look. The most obvious and impressive improvement has to be the design of the clothing, armor and weapons. The intricate designs are truly breathtaking. Even the cheap equipment you first start off with is stunning. For example, one of the first shields your introduced to in the game is the Hide Shield and its absolutely beautiful. Large metal rivets circle the outer diameter and intricate designs adorn the leather. It even has the dents and nicks one would expect to see from a shield that has seen its fair share of battle. This attention to detail is seen everywhere and it goes right down to the bindings of the books and the crackle glazed dishes and pottery found adorning most tables and halls. When you add this to the significant improvement in graphics....well, what you get is a level of realism that simply blows earlier titles out of the water. This is hands down the best art direction I have ever seen from a video game and ultimately it gives this world a level of realism that we simply haven't seen before.

The world itself is absolutely beautiful. One of the first open scenes I came across was a large flowing river that had huge rocks jetting up creating white water/rapids. Large mountains were in the background with wisps of clouds running all up and down the side of the mountain. It was absolutely stunning. I had to just stop and stare for a few moments. The draw distance has been significantly increased and the detail, as I wrote up above, is amazing. The landscape itself is just one big work of art. Traveling around and discovering the land for yourself has always been one of the big enjoyments for fans of this series. Well, Skyrim doesn't disappoint in this regard. In fact, this is easily the best title yet in regards to this aspect of the game. No other game series can compete with the size and scope of the worlds that Bethesda creates for this series and no other game in the Elder Scrolls series even comes close to matching what Bethesda has achieved this time around with Skyrim. They have significantly leapfrogged anything and everything they have done in the past.

An issue I feel compelled to discuss is the huge improvement with the 3rd person perspective in this game. As I am sure people are aware, 3rd person perspective in Oblivion was pretty bad. Actually, it was awful. You could switch over for short periods but the game was pretty much unplayable from that perspective. Well, the improvement Bethesda has made in this aspect of the game is nothing short of amazing. Your character no longer looks like he is walking on air and your easily able to interact with your environment. Basically this game is now wholly playable from this perspective. I prefer playing in 3rd person perspective when I am just traveling around and its just really nice to see Bethesda finally take the proper steps to fix this aspect of this series. If your going to include it than at least make it playable and Bethesda has done just that.

You can immediately tell that this is an Elder Scrolls game but dont let that fool you. There are a lot of changes behind Skrim. One of the most obvious changes is with the skill system. The skills themselves are pretty much the same. You have Alchemy, Illusion, Conjuration, Destruction, Restoration, Alteration, Enchanting, Heavy Armor, Light Armor, Block, One Handed, Two Handed, Archery, Sneak, Lockpicking, Pickpocket, Speech and a new one Smithing. The big difference lies in the fact that you now have specialty skills for each skill category and there are multiple branching paths one can take. For example, the Stealth skill has two different branches that one can take, one that focuses on stealth (Muffled Movement, Light Foot, Silent Roll, ect.) and one that focuses on blade skills (Backstab, Deadly aim, and Assassins blade). This ultimately adds a significant amount of depth to character progression and it also adds to the games re-playability factor as there are now so many different avenues one can take. On top of this there are no longer character classes. You still have the different races of character to choose from but choosing a class is history. What kind of character you become (Spellcaster, Fighter etc.) is solely dependent on the skills you choose to upgrade or in other words its dependent on how you play your character. Personally I love this new system as it doesn't lock you into a specific mold for your character and it leaves everything open for you to explore. Its just a far more organic system and ultimately I think its a significant step forward for this series in regards to character development.

Another big change is with the menu system and this is easily one of the best changes made in this game. The new menu system is just far more intuitive. Basically the menu system has been broken down into 4 distinct categories. There is Skills, Items, Map, and Magic. You have to press the menu button to access the menu but once you do that, you no longer need to press buttons. Simply press the left stick in the direction of the menu you want and it automatically changes. Once you have done this, a new subsystem of selections will come up and pressing the left stick to the right will take you to the next menu and so on. No button pressing needed. Basically the left thumb stick controls all of your movements within the menu system, with no button pressing needed. I may not have described it very well but its hands down one of the best menu systems I have ever used. Again, its just a far more intuitive system and it just has a great feel to it. You never leave the main screen when accessing menu's. It just blurs out a bit and acts as a background to the menus themselves. This basically does two things, it helps to keep the menus from detracting from the game itself and it ultimately makes the menu system far more attractive. They have also updated the item menu with 3 dimensional representations of the in game items. You can now spin items around a 360 degree axis, both vertical and horizontal. Its a small detail but a very cool one, especially for the weapons and armor.

I also have to mention the skill menu as the way they have graphically laid this system out is...well, its nothing short of stunning. Each individual skill is represented by a constellation in the sky and beautiful gaseous nebula act as a background to the constellations. The visual effect is gorgeous. You can cycle left or right through the skills/constellations and when you access the branching skill set associated with each skill, you suddenly zoom into the constellation itself and the different branching skills are suddenly represented by the individual stars in that particular constellation. Its kind of difficult to properly explain but trust me, the effect is not only stunning, its also nothing short of ingenious. Its EASILY one of the best, if not the best, molds of form and function I have seen yet in videogames. Words simply cant do this games art direction justice. It really has to be seen firsthand to be fully appreciated.

Combat has also been overhauled and what we wind up with is a system that is far more fluid, and ultimately a lot more fun, than previous releases. Characters are now able to duel wield both weapons and spells and can even mix up the two. In other words, you can assign a sword to one hand and a spell to another hand or you can go with a staff in one hand and a spell in the other. You can mix it up anyway you want. This new system fits perfectly with the new character system (that being one with no character classes). By adding so many options in regards to how to approach combat, they have essentially added strategy to the mix, something that was entirely lacking in Oblivion. Well, short of actually picking what character class you were actually going to play in oblivion. Basically the combat is just far superior to what we had with Oblivion. Unfortunately you can no longer assign weapons and spells to the D-pad and this is really one of my only complaints with the game. I dont understand why Bethesda decided to get rid of this. They could have even split the D-pad field in two, to accommodate the dual wielding nature of the game. In other words, they could have made the 4 slots on the left for the left hand and the 4 right slots on the right for the right hand. That would still have given you 4 quick slots for each hand.

There are lots of other aspects to this game that have been updated but I will leave the rest of them for the player to discover and while there are lots of new additions to Skyrim, fortunately there is also a lot that hasn't changed. Traveling is still done the same way. Once you have actually discovered a location you have the option to fast travel to that location. There are still lots of different factions that one can join, all of which have additional quests associated with them. You can still go about playing the game as you want. You still collect herbs and ingredients for potions. There are still hundreds of different books that one can read. I could go on and on and on and on. This is an Elder Scrolls game after all and Bethesda has kept the heart of the game intact and that is a very good thing indeed. I wont go into the story aspect of this game as I hate spoilers. I will just say that the main story line is fantatstic and is really the icing on the cake.

Bottom line I am a huge Elder Scrolls fan and I have been watching this game since it was first announced. To say my expectations were extremely high would be a massive understatement. With that being said, Skyrim is everything that I hoped for and then some. It hasn't just raised the bar, its launched it into the stratosphere. If your an Elder Scrolls fan then buying this should be a no brainer. This is the kind of game people buy consoles for and this is easily Bethesda's best work yet in regards to this series. They have just taken this franchise to a whole new level. Thankfully, I have lots of time in the coming months to discover all that this game has to offer and make no mistake about it, what this game has to offer....well, its limited only by the amount of time you spend with it.

Outstanding, simply outstanding!

5 Stars!

Best Deals for Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim - Xbox 360

Oh, my. Well, I have been playing Oblivion since its release (about 7 characters that got around level 47, with about 300 hours each), and now, finally, last night (midnight launch, yay). I was able to start playing Skyrim. This IS one of the very few games that "lives up to the hype." I know I don't have to go into detail, those of you who are also playing it, especially if you have been along for the Elder Scrolls evolution journey, know EXACTLY what I am talking about. Those few of you trolls, that like to post poor reviews on games like this, just to get all of us riled up, guess what, I just ignore you.

Anyway, this will be sort of brief, because, first, I only have a few hours in (dang it I fell asleep at about 0400), and, more importantly, after this I'm getting right back to it. Without being too "spoilery," as they say at Bethesda, you start out (as usual), as a prisoner. You get asked a question that throws you into "character creation." Something happens (like last time) that will facilitate your escape. This first "quest" is basically a tutorial for you; like last time, once you exit this area and come out into the world, you are free to either continue the main story quest, or do whatever you like. Also as before, you have picked up quite a bit of gear relative to your beginning encumbrance (I started at 300). So, first thing I did of course, was look for a shop, and sold most of that stuff off, and made me some gold. Right now, I'm just exploring on my own; I already have the next stops in the main quest, and about 5 other side or miscellaneous quests, acquired by just talking to folks, in my journal.

On the difference in "skills" and "leveling:" I like it. The way it works now, instead of simply getting to 50 in a skill, and becoming a "journeyman," when you level up (I'm level 2 now), you go to a menu that looks like constellations in the skey, and you pick whether to increase your Health, Magicka, or Stamina. Then, comes the cool part...you receive a "perk;" you can either spend the perk you receive then, or save it for later. You can use a perk when you meet the skill level it requires, and have the pre-requisite perk already (i.e. you can't use one perk to jump from novice to master...you have to move up the 'skill tree' in order). What all this means is, YOU can select what you become expert at; you can be a warrior character and rise quickly to master of illusion etc. I like this MUCH better than Oblivion's "rest and meditate on what you have learned," etc.

The main reason the Elder Scrolls games are my favorites is, they are that rare "open world" "open choice" game. You can do the main quest, and nothing else. You can spend hundreds of hours wandering on your own, clearing out caves, fighting bandits, etc, and never touch any quests at all. You can do a faction quest, and nothing else. You can be a good knight (if you don't do the theives guild/dark brotherhood quests), or go around killing everyone you see. It's ALL up to you.

Well I can't stand it, I'm going to save this review, and go play Skyrim for the rest of the day. If you have the game, you know what I'm talking about. if you don't, get it. The words highly recommended don't do it justice. As far as how I would rate it: 5 out of 5 10 out of 10, you get the idea.

Ok really, I'm going now. GET THIS GAME.

Honest reviews on Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim - Xbox 360

Greetings! Yes, this game is ridiculously great. I'll put this review down in three short parts: (1) for those who are new to the Elder Scrolls; (2) for the veterans of Elder Scrolls / Fallout 3 / sandbox games; (3) general thoughts and comments about the game itself.

Quick background: I was madly in love with Morrowind and Fallout 3; I wasn't too crazy about Oblivion for many reasons, which are irrelevant right now. I loathe standard FPS games with linear storytelling and rinse-repeat trigger-twitching action. I play old school dungeons and dragons (paper and pencils, yes) and Lord of the Rings is the greatest fantasy tale ever (along with the Belgariad).

(1) For the unblooded: the open world of Skyrim can and will be daunting; you aren't given any clear-cut goals--or maybe you're given too many! That deer in the headlights, "what do I do now?", sensation is perfectly normal. Sit back and imagine yourself in an alternate reality; exactly, now you have it! Figure out the controls and character management stuff (read the dang manual!) and the rest is completely up to your imagination! Save your game often (every time you do something, basically) and experiment with anything you can think of; in no time flat, you'll realize this game is amazing.

(2) For the grognards: assuming you've played Morrowind, Oblivion, and Fallout 3, then Skyrim will feel comfy. It feels bigger and more inspiring thanks to the soaring mountains and the astounding soundtrack. The action is fantastic and the new addition of trigger dual-wielding is a lot of fun--experiment with all the combinations (like smacking a foe with fire & ice spells simultaneously).

Bethesda really simplified character creation and levelling, but they added in a robust Perk tree for every skill that presents a bewildering array of choices; I mean bewildering in that it's agonizing to choose which one to choose! The Perks actually have a dramatic impact on the game though, so whatever direction you go is bound to be exciting.

The interface is a lot cleaner and easier to access than any game before, including Fallout. I'd say Skyrim is closer to Fallout in terms of how it feels when you're playing, but the world feels unique and interesting like it was in Morrowind; the best of both worlds, baby. Dragons are fantasy at its best, and they feel appropriately tough. The best encounters come when the dragon roars and swoops overhead, building up that anticipation; there are different types of them, so be wary if you beat one down easily because the next one might not be so cake.

(3) General thoughts: I haven't had the game crash, not even once. The load times off the HDD are less than 30 seconds and much shorter for small transitions like shops. There are definitely some graphic hiccups and texture issues, but it's not constant nor bad enough to break the spell of immersion. There is so much to do in this game that you could easily stay in one province of Skyrim and max out your level.

Be careful with the difficulty setting, as some enemies are nearly indestructable on anything but normal, whereas the toughest enemies are sometimes far too easy when the difficulty is lowered. You'll notice classic Elder Scroll follies, like a bandit kingpin beating you down faster than a pair of angry dragons--but that's present in almost every game that tries to keep it challenging. It's better than Oblivion and much more like Fallout 3.

The best character and most amazing thing about Skyrim is the world itself. I've spent time simply gazing at the aurora lights or galactic clouds visible in the night sky; I've stood atop a lonely mountain in a snowstorm and just listened to the noise; I've stalked massive elk through sun-dappled pine forests; I've floated on an iceberg in the Sea of Ghosts, watching veils of fog swallow the land; I've walked with herds of mammoths across the tundra; I've delved into forgotten, undead-haunted halls where the slightest noise sends chills up your spine.

Enjoy, my friends.

After having played 80 hours into the game, I feel a review is in order (not that my opinion really matters)

Gameplay 10/10

-Combat: The combat in this game is a fast improvement over Oblivion. The excitement of a stealth kill, the brutality of the blade and the twang of the bow are felt deeper in this game than in the predecessors. I play a cleric-type character, mainly using one-handed and destruction magic as my main offensive abilities. The perks in one-handed really allow for some visceral additions to the already brutal finishing moves. The game seems to know when you the enemy really deserves what's coming and delivers every time. I don't find much hand-holding in the game; as a player you need to watch what spells you use and who you swing at, else your allies might fall. I find this adds some realism and removes wanton slaughter for the moral characters among us.

-Character: Leveling is vastly improved since Oblivion and certainly over Morrowind. What you use, you level. You don't need to plan everything and loose tracking of the game itself. I play the game to immerse myself in the environments and story, not to powergame. The perk system allows for very creative combinations, enabling the player to devise conjuror-warriors, healer-archers and anything in between. I enjoy how each decision matters with perks, and I enjoy pouring over the options before me. I find the changes to the magic system allow for more original character concepts than previously seen in other games. Want to play a necromancer? You can do it. Want to play the person that hunts necromancers? I did. I love it.

The character creation is improved in most ways compared to other ES games. I do wish the flexibility of Oblivion's face generator was present, but the options given are certainly flexible and far more believable. Each character has a realistic grit to it. A few improvements could be more hair models, a height modifier, and better eye colors.

-Crafting: I am beyond happy to see the addition of crafting into the series; it adds such life and extension to the gameplay. I however wish the perks that would go into the crafting trees would be separate from the combat trees. Aside from this, it's a wonderful system and I thoroughly enjoy mining, crafting and cooking at my home in Whiterun.

Setting 9/10

The setting of Skyrim is breathtaking. The variety of environments is beautiful and constantly reminds the player they're not in Cyrodiil anymore. I enjoy rivers pulling me downstream, storms blinding my vision and steep mountains to conquer. All is not harsh though. Areas like the Rift and the Reach demonstrate an alpine beauty while the marshes surrounded Solitude evoke a sense of tension and horror. The spiders that dwell there only further this emotion.

Of course no discussion of Skyrim's setting would be complete without mentioning the Dragons which plague the realm. Fighting a dragon is an experience. They hunt you and they hunt everything around you. While some younger dragons are easy pickings for higher-leveled characters, an Elder Dragon or Ancient Dragon poses a serious threat to a town and to the player. That being said, it's a welcome challenge with a nice reward.

Story 8/10:

I don't want to give away much here in the way of spoilers, but I have enjoyed the story. The player is given a sense of conflict woven into the very nature of Skyrim as a nation. Each town is replete with conflict and I am surprised at the variety of quests in the game. I do feel that where the game shines in exploration and combat, the factions are scarce and the quests are few. In comparison to older titles like Morrowind, I found myself aching for more factions to engage in. The game makes up for this by adding Radiant quests, repeatable endeavours. While the Thieves Guild, Dark Brotherhood and Companions offer solid questlines, I found the College of Winterhold to be the cold cousin of the Mages Guild. Lore drops were wondeful but sometimes were left at a cliffhanger. It is important to realize there are two main quests. The Civil War and the fight against Alduin. They both play into each and strike at the heart of what it means to be in Skyrim.

Interface 7/10

The interface is touchy issue for many people. While it is certainly not game breaking or horrible, it doesn't feel improved over Oblivion's. I find it a poor design choice to cause the game to pause to scroll through the favorites list. While the dual wielding expanding choices, I find the interface crude but effective in accomplishing its goals. Personal information is hard to get to and I find important information hard to get to. One small nuisance I have noticed is the inability to remove markers placed by the player on the map.

Overall: 8.5 / 10

Skyrim is a must have title and a wonderful addition the Elder Scrolls series. Technical issues and interface issues are the only things that tarnish this otherwise shining Glass Shield.

I'm just going to talk about the content of the limited edition and whether or not its worth the extra price.

First of all, if we factor in the map packs, thats already a $25 value. So it really comes down to a $15 price difference between the standard edition (with the map pass) and the limited one. This is assuming you plan on getting the new maps in the first place. So does the remaining content make up for the price difference? Going over the content:

The packaging is nice. The box has a unique look and opens by lifting the flap which is held in place by a magnet. That and with the UNSC logo stamped on makes it look very official looking. I also like the look and quality of the steelbook case.

The UNSC Infinity briefing packet items are pretty neat, especially if you're into the lore. But they're really things you just look through once and then set aside for the remainder of time. There is not much else to them. However, I appreciate the quality of some of these items, such as the little notebook and the armor schematic poster (not sure what material was used to make said poster, but I like it).

The digital content will probably be the deal breaker here. The map packs as I mentioned are a big part of this edition. The "Halo 4: Forward Unto Dawn" special edition download is a nice bonus, but it would have been even better if it was included as a DVD instead. The access to the six specializations is nothing special considering people can get the same thing if they play Halo 4 before Nov. 20. And honestly, who isn't?

As for the rest of the digital content. The in-game skins and emblem is also nothing special. The skin is basically the default recruit armor that you start with, but with a slightly different design. You get a 14-day LIVE gold trial which you'll probably never use. And the avatar items speak for themselves.

All in all, I'd say the limited edition has things that will make it worth it to many people, especially for those who have bought the limited (or legendary) editions to all the past Halo games. A part of me wishes it was cheaper or had a few more things like a Master Chief figurine for example. But as it stands I thought the overall package was alright for the cost but some of the bonus items are really lackluster.

First of all i just wanted to say that this limited edition is great. I'm about half way through the campaign and I'm having a blast. Here's what you get inside the box"

Numbered box: Each box has it's own number which gives it a truly limited feel.

Game in a tin case: You get a wonderful white tin case with your 2 discs in it.

Gabriel Thorne armor schematic: The schematic is printed on a kind of see through high quality paper

Silver envelope: Inside the silver envelope you get a mission briefing card.

Red UNSC envelope: Inside the red envelope are all the DLC codes. You get: Halo 4 Forward unto dawn which lets your experience halo 4 from it's very beginning, you get specializations, skins, Avatar props and male/female avatar armor. You also get a 14 days Xbox Live trial code.

Gabriel Thorne's Notebook: The notebook is beautiful. it's in a shape of a rectangle with a bottom middle cut out. The notebook shows different weapons, notes and other information. The back of the notebook is a hard, thick plastic with UNSC printed on it.

The box that the whole thing comes in is also beautiful, it's hard plastic and has the UNSC logo on it. If you're not sure whether or not to get the limited edition, there was one thing that totally sold me on it. You get the war maps map pack included in the box! Normally it sells for $25 I believe. It includes future DLC maps for Halo 4, if you were to pay for those maps separately you would pay over $40. If you know you won't keep the game for long and you are mainly buying it for the campaign and not multiplayer, i say get the regular. If you play multiplexer a lot and enjoy the extras which i listed above, i say go for the limited.

Personally I give the game 4.8/5 and the limited edition 5/5 for all the DLC goodies that you get and the attention to detail inside and outside the box.

I have to say, first of all, that the story is, in my opinion, far better presented than what Halo: Reach gave; I won't give spoilers here (although it's been quite a while), but I will say that I did not find the campaign, as a narrative piece, to be disappointing. I will warn that people unfamiliar with the expanded Halo universe will have some seriously confusing moments, which is a point against it. But given that I was prepared for that (the game was effectively made by fans), I can accept its eccentricities and flaws.

What I can't accept is how buggy and sometimes broken the multiplayer is: it has virtually nothing to do with the weapons and loadout system, as it's close enough to Bungie's system for Reach to avoid being broken, but the stuff that goes on "under the hood": matchmaking, NAT issues, random lag spikes, occasional gear resets until you relog into Live; I've genuinely had more issues with Halo 4's multiplayer in the last few months than I've ever had from Halo 3 to Reach.

You can tell this wasn't made by an objective, fully professional company, at least not yet: there's a lot of love-letters to fans, a few too many and a little too heavy-handed. There's design choices that make no sense (again, mostly under the hood; why couldn't they use Reach's netcode instead of their own?; on top of that, levels become rapidly meaningless as you max out your armory, unless you want to farm for achievements/commendation-specific equipment) and just overall the game feels somewhat incomplete at times.

But for me, the most important aspect was the campaign, and that, at least, is extremely solid. Not perfect, but excellently done. I can forgive the bugs and glitches prevalent throughout the game as "first attempt" issues. As long as they're resolved by Halo 5 (or even in a title update), I can forgive it. I really do consider this to be a very promising beta for Halo 5, honestly, rather than it's own standalone game. Perhaps if they'd had a beta, things would've been different, but alas...

At any rate, the game is well worth buying for any fans of Halo, but I'm sorry to say, not quite a good entry point for newcomers, unless you're only interested in multiplayer.

Honest reviews on Halo 4 Limited Edition -Xbox 360

343 Studios have done a tremendous job with Halo 4: it is a sequel worthy of its predecessors and I've been enjoying it very much. Those of you who have followed the saga of The Master Chief will find a very interesting reveal of many of the things you'd been wondering: about Cortana, the Forerunners, and much more. I won't spoil the story for you, but as you can see in the commercials and trailers we also get a new race to battle, with some very clever twists designed to make a veteran player have to think on their feet once more. With a new race are a whole new class of weapons and with the Single Player Campaign I found myself reminded of some of the best feelings of my favorite FPS games, stretching all the way back to Doom, Quake, and Half-Life. One interesting note: the little 'Grunts' no longer speak English: like the other races of The Covenant they speak in their own dialect. Much as I enjoyed the cute quips of "More! Enemy!" and "Bad Cyborg!", this change does bring the story together a little more consistently to me.

If there's one drastic difference in Halo 4, it's that there are several interactive cutscenes. These aren't quick-time events: they're more like those moments in the Call of Duty games where something dramatic happens and you are just watching through The Master Chief's eyes. The only downside to this is you spend your time on the edge of your seat hoping you'll know when to grab the controls again. There are melee kills that pop the camera to an over-the-shoulder view and then there are a couple of moments where you interact with switches and the camera changes to a short cutscene of The Master Chief flipping the switch/opening the door/etc. There is also a sprint mechanic that takes a bit of getting used to: click down to sprint, but take your thumb off the stick and let it pop upright again to be able to re-shoulder your weapon.

The maps we are introduced to in the Single-Player Campaign look like they'd be fantastic in Multiplayer: I haven't dived into the Multiplayer yet but I will say that there are plenty of areas for hiding, taking the high ground, or mixing it up with a bit of both. We also have armor enhancements beyond the ones introduced in Halo: Reach. For example, The Master Chief can cloak. He can produce an energy shield, but it's not for having instant invulnerability: you'll find yourself using it most in times when you're pinned down and need to get to cover to recharge. The use of these armor-driven powers is on a cooldown timer that's more reasonable than the all-or-none method introduced in Halo 2: if you need to re-engage the power before it's fully charged, you get what charge is built up--like Crysis.

I bought the collector's edition. It comes with the three DLC add-ons, access to a streaming version of the Forward Unto Dawn video series (but only through Halo Waypoint), and "eyes-only" UNSC mission briefs. We have a blueprint (that I won't spoil for you), a notebook similar to the "Dr. Halsey's journal" that was included in the limited edition of Halo: Reach (only much smaller), and all of it packed in a foldover game case. I was really pleased that the DLC was more of a quick unlock than it was a long download--I know there's some controversy over on-disc DLC, but I guess in this case, not having to sit and wait (or re-download it if I have to replace my XBox 360) makes it a bit more convenient.

If you've enjoyed the rest of the Halo series, I hope you enjoy Halo 4 as much as I have. I'm sad to see Bungie step away, but I'm also impressed with 343's work on this worthy sequel.

As far as Halo stories go that deal with the Master Chief, this is the best. It shows a more emotional component to the series in addition to the already decent sci-fi story. I should divulge now that I think the pinnacle of the Halo games story telling was reached with Halo: Reach so if my review of this game seems lackluster in regards to the story, you are forewarned.

The game picks up right where part three left off, on the ship where Master Chief last went to sleep. A few years have passed since these events and things are not looking to good for the dynamic duo of Cortana and John. As usual, John is putting boot to ass to achieve the mission goals and this time, he has set his own priorities. His number one priority right now is to get Cortana back to her creator for repairs as it seems she is dying. Along the way he discovers those wacky Covenant forces doing more silly shit, this time uncovering the origins of an ancient civilization that is determined to rule the universe, and trying to utiliza the power for themselves. The visuals are a little more polished from the halo: Rech time and the game runs a lot more smoothly. The best thing about this game aside from the story is all the added things that come along with it. Right now there is a guaranteed 10 week online component to the side story of the Spartans that further continue the story. That is 5 extra missions per week that are not simply multiplayer but addition to the story. There is a movie or a five part web episoded series that shows the beginning relationship and explanation of Captain Lasky and the Master Chief. If you watch it in it's movie form I guarantee you that it stands up easily to any big budget hollywood sci-fi movie. There is of course the always spectacular multiplayer and ever present DLC. This game basically picks up and runs with the ground work laid with Hal: Reach and makes an already exemplary series even better. If you buy it, get the limited edition as it comes with some very cool extras and a beautiful game case.
