As a more casual gamer, I never really understood the necessity of wearing a headset while playing on the Playstation Network or Xbox Live. The Afterglow headset definitely helped me cross that line. I have become familiar with several other gaming headsets through my roommates and other friends, but never was impressed enough to pull the trigger for a pair of my own. I am very happy to have had these given to me as a gift, because I may have never experienced them otherwise.

When it comes to sound quality, as an owner of a pair of Bose QC Headphones (which coincidentally crapped out on me right after the one year warranty expired) and a pair of V-Moda Crossfades, I am very particular and value headphones with crisp, clear sound and solid bass. When I first took this set out of the box, I plugged them directly into my iPod rather than my Xbox. I was astonished with the sound quality, something I didn't quite expect from a pair of headphones built primarily for gaming. Although I still take my Crossfades out the door with me (they are a bit more streamlined) I have found myself using my Afterglow headphones as my primary music listening headphones while at home. The sound is fantastic whether the volume is cranked up or you're listening at a whisper level. Vocals are very clear, and it is easy to separate the sounds of instruments in the music or footsteps and gunfire while gaming. While they are not noise-cancelling, the quality design of the headphones helps block out a fair amount of outside noise, which I find to maximize the sound experience.

One of the most attractive features of these headphones is the inner headband design. Unlike anything I've worn before, at first I was very skeptical of the suspension style strap. I quickly found that it maximizes the comfort of the headphones, while also eliminating the need for the more common click-slide size adjusters (which I now find irritating) found on most other headphones. This headband makes it so there are no noticeable pressure points on the headphones, which is ideal when you find yourself on a multi-hour gaming or music bender. All other headphones that I have used extensively begin to irritate my ears or head after a couple of hours, I have yet to experience that with this set. Additionally the earcups are large enough to fit my oversized ears comfortably without being bulky, a compromise that I generally find lacking in most headphone designs. The only other notable design feature is the retractable microphone, a great feature which makes these headphones a lot less clunky than similarly priced gaming headphones, without sacrificing any quality. Other than that, the design is very effective, nothing too flashy, but much more than you would expect for the reasonable price.

Another feature I find extremely valuable about these headphones is the multi-platform capability. Unlike many other gaming headphones, these are compatible with all major platforms, something that is very useful as all of my roommates/friends seem to prefer different gaming platforms.

Overall, I definitely recommend these headphones for the casual to serious gamer who is looking for a lot of bang for their buck. I have yet to have any issues with this Afterglow set, and would definitely be interested in hearing what people have to say about the wireless set, which I'm sure will be my next gaming headphone purchase when the time comes. Comfortable design and great sound quality make for a great pair of headphones. The lighting effects are just a bonus! Hope this was helpful.

Having used many headsets over many consoles, i can gladly say that the afterglow headset can be placed on the top of my list. The sound quality is amazing compared to other headsets at its price and can even be compared to headsets twice the amount paid for it. Every game I have tried with these did not disappoint with the sound quality i received. The only problem I had with them was the tightness I had when I first used them. But after a week of using them they started to mold and fit snug around my head so it wasn't really a problem.

I will revise this review after I get some service from PDP. I'm a female gamer so it fits my head just perfect alittle big in fact, this is the first headset I have ever owned like this and was a gift from my mom for a late Christmas present. after receiving though is where the 3 stars comes into play I need an adapter cable for it to work on my PS3, that is not provided with the headset you have to contact PDP, so I did like the book said call the 1800 number I called it and got told to go to the website to file for my adapter piece, then just for the heck of it I hooked this headset to my brothers xbox to see what the sound quality was like on there surprise surprise I need another adapter since both systems are HDMI linked and not hooked up with the original cables this piece is needed and in the book it says after you call it's free and 2 days shipping, issue is it's 2 day shipping from when they get your ticket so if they don't get it for several days you don't get to have optimal game sound till then. All in all if you hook your systems up with HDMI be ready to not use your headset for awhile unless you have the original cables ready like I did for my PS3 but also be ready to go down in visual quality for better sound. I will again revise once I receive the items needed to let future buyers know how long it will take.

Ok so as I said I would revise if I received the adapters and I have so my review on this is WOW !!! I never received a message back from the company they just sent the adapters, not a bad thing at all but it does show they are working on customer service just make sure you file the claim ticket at the right place on the website. The sound quality is AMAZING !!! it takes some getting used to if your like me and never had surround sound headsets before. you have to do some adjusting to the sounds and from what I can tell mine are backwards where it says chat it's actually the game and vice versa but it's not a big deal since I know that's the issue I just adjust from knowing that. if you have any issues hooking up your headset don't get frustrated go here( )they have instructional videos for all electronics, plus they will tell you where to go to file your tickets for the adapters I would really recommend these if your really looking for a quality item and to block out sound.

I am not normally used to wearing headphones, but when my gamer son recommended I try his new Afterglow Universal Wired Headset Blue, I was sold. Not only do they look totally cool with the glowing blue light (especially awesome in the dark), but they feel fantastic, almost too comfortable to take off. "I will never wear annoying ear buds again," claims my son and now I understand why. Plus the sound quality is terrific. My hearing's not great so with Afterglow on I go high on volume and low on disturbing the family. Everybody's happy. Finish off with the fact that these are so very affordable compared to a lot of other headsets on the market that I'm inclined to think we should all have our own!

Unfortunately, this game isn't as much fun as I was hoping. The songs are more "pop" than "rock" (that's intentional), but that also means that there just aren't a whole lot of great guitar riffs. In fact, you end up playing keyboard (i.e. "American Pie"), horns and other instruments on your guitar, which just seems out of place and unnatural.

There are a lot of fun songs to sing, and the drum patterns are enjoyable. It's nice to see different types of songs that what we're all used to, but the gameplay just doesn't pair up as well as the music in RB & GH does (maybe we need a keyboard hero?).

I was so pleased to see Paralyzer by Finger 11 (which would have been an appropriate song for the GH series as well) and the Taylor Swift songs are actually some of the best songs on the disk. You also get to import from your other Hero games, including GH5. In what is a nice touch, if you paid to import World Tour and Smash Hits songs into GH5, you won't have to pay to import them into Band Hero. After adding all the imports and downloads, the roster added up to 233 songs, which is nice when you're playing in a party setting.

As an interesting side note, Band Hero is touted as family friendly, so much so that they drop the lyric "whisky" from American Pie, but they include "Dirty Little Secret" whose entire meaning is less than family friendly (good song though).

All in all, it's good, not great, but mostly because the music style doesn't match what you're used to playing in a Guitar Hero/Rock Band game. So, you take the good with the bad: expanded music genre v. playing piano on your guitar.

The song selection is all a matter of personal preference; You either like the songs or you don't. I'm basing my review on the actual gameplay, which is awesome.

It's the same format as guitar hero 5, so if you like that setup, you will like this one. There's a career mode, and each song has an individual challenge with 3 levels of achievement (gold, platinum and diamond).

If you are a fan of rhythm games, which I am, and if you liked guitar hero 5, which I did, then you will probably like this game. The people who give the game low ratings because they don't like the songs, should have checked out the song list before they bought it.

This game was a nice alternative to Guitar Hero World Tour and Rock Band. It offers a wider variety than just rock, metal, and emo songs. I'm still waiting for more DLC pop songs that are more popular or recent than the included setlist, as some of the songs are outdated.

The pros to this game are the multiple mics capability. Some times people feel more comfortable singing with others which makes for a better party than, forcing someone to use the mic as the only instrument left. You do receive individual scores with the mics. There's also a party mode where people can jump in and out whenever they want to with the instruments. The only down side is that you can't choose the songs in party mode. Another nice option was the playlist option. Instead of having to pick songs for a playist by default like GHWT, you can turn that option on or off for Band Hero. So people don't get confused with either pressing the green button or the start button. (On Xbox360)

The cons to this game is that it follows the user interface like GHWT. Only the band leader can control the stats screen and choose songs. This gets annoying when your an impatient person and the band leader isn't paying attention to the game. Also, you can't choose your difficulty level right before each song. Instead you have to either back out to the players menu and change it there, or the individual instrument has to press start and change difficulty and restart the song. Either way it's more time wasted than Rock Band's simple difficulty menu before each song. Another annoyance for people with slightly imperfect eye-hand coordination is that Band Hero has less tolerance for error in hitting the notes. You pretty much have to hit them dead on or it will count as a miss. When I was playing I hit all the notes fine, but when my sister was playing she thought there was something wrong with all three of my guitars. Then we realized it was the game.

Overall, this game is fun to play if you're into the pop songs included. I'm sure there will be guys out there who aren't willing to sing Taylor Swift, Jesse McCartney and Hillary Duff, but it's definitely fun to watch if you can get them to do it. Good times....

This is a good mini-game game! The instructions are very easy to understand, which I appreciate. I was playing with a 5 year old and an adult last weekend and we were all having a great time. Note: there is some violence/shooting on some of the mini games, so you might want to be cautious of that with some kids, but other games include things like: peeling potatoes, doing push ups, drinking milk, sky diving, running and then posing in specific poses, washing dishes, rope climbing, playing in a marching band, etc. There are a couple shooting type games & one where you punch prisoners. The instructions are usually 1-2 steps (on a couple of games, I wish there were more instructions). On each mini game you get a certain number of stars (if you're playing in "Campaign" mode, you need a certain number of stars before you pass the level). You can also play on "easy" or "hard" level, so once you beat the game on easy, you can try again on hard. I was able to pass nearly all the games on easy the first try, so it's not terribly difficult.

My 6 yr old son eats, sleeps and breaths anything army. When I saw this game and checked out some of the screen shots it was a no-brainer. HE LOVES IT!!! You know when your child "belly laughs" and it just makes you laugh because they are having soo much fun. That describes this game all the way!! I get more enjoyment watching and listening to my son play than me actually playing it! The controls are easy and there is no frustration on his part, the games are funny (drinking milk) the whole game is just excellent for younger players as well as older. I wish there were more Wii games like this one!!!

Super Street Fighter II- Turbo Revival Review

Super Street Fighter II- Turbo Revival
Customer Ratings: 4.5 stars

I've seen the Japanese version of the game in action, and the graphics are really A LOT better than they ever where on the SNES! Game Boy Advance has much better 2D capabilities than the SNES does!, I played my SSFII to compare and the graphics on the game boy version are ten times smoother!! And also the intro is breathtaking believe me! I knew the GBA was good but I didn't know it was capable of this!

The game works very well, and has four different settings of speed. It might have a cheat for even faster fighting like sf2turbo did=) who knows. But It's new artwork will blow anyone away! and some of the levels have been changed a little, to look a little flashier. Guile's stage has a harrier flowting in the backround and it's really impressive, as is Chun Li's stage which I think has really improved in my opinion and is beautiful! Zangief's stage is similar, but has a few changes in the backround. Ken's stage is set in a fast paced city with bilboards. I miss the old stages, but the new ones really are amazing and refresh the game for me anyway.

The sound is really nice, nicer with headphones though. Gameplay is of the finest, so much to master and you can ALWAYS get better! plus you have Akuma to master if you can unlock him. The characters are a lot smoother than on the snes, but you'll have to get used to playing with four buttons instead of at least six=( but that's nothing to moan about!, this is as good as it gets believe me and you'll get used to the buttons. The A and B buttons have the low and med kicks and punches squeezed in, so you have to tap the button for a light attack and hold it down a little for a med attack. Then the L and R buttons are of course the high kick and punch and work normally. You can configur the buttons how you want and choose which buttons share attacks. It's a little annoying I admit, but it's still Street Fighter at the bus stop right? how can you go wrong?! I really prefer this to the snes version, because it really is more of a port from the arcade than a port from the snes, and has it's own original artwork too! Buy it! "sonic boom!"

I've long been a fan of the Street Fighter II series on the SNES. When I heard there was going to be a GBA version, I couldn't wait to get my hands on it. And while it's fun to play, it's far from perfect.

First, the good stuff. The graphics are nice, and stay true to the original (as do the sound effects). Arcade mode is a blast to play, and the various little bonus games you can unlock are pretty cool.

But there are, unfortunately, some significant problems with the game. Firstly, there's the fact that the GBA has two less buttons than the SNES. The control scheme is customizable, thankfully, but it takes time to get used to it. Finger-cramping is pretty common after playing for a long period of time, even if you're used to playing the GBA for extended sessions.

Another downside is the music. To put it simply, it's bad. We're talking barely Game Boy Color quality here, and it's a real shame. Part of the charm of the SF2 games is the cool music, and unfortunately this aspect did not carry over well to the GBA at all.

And one other gripe the game can crash. After unlocking Akuma, he can be your opponent in the arcade mode. But unfortunately, the game crashes and burns horribly 9 times out of 10 when it brings me to him in the arcade ladder. A console game crashing under normal usage is a Very Bad Thing(tm), and that's ultimately what brings this game's rating down from 4 stars to 3 stars in my book.

Conclusion: SF2 for GBA is fun, but in many regards it just doesn't do justice to the SNES versions. When you see awesome conversions like Mario Kart Super Circuit, and compare them to this somewhat lacking port of Street Fighter II, its faults can become pretty glaring.

Best Deals for Super Street Fighter II- Turbo Revival

The game is excellent, but unfortunatelly the QA team has missed a critical bug on it. If you're a good SF player, soon you'll notice that when playing Arcade Mode, if you beat everybody up to Sagat without losing you should be challenged by Akuma, but as soon as Akuma's introductory screen appears and his theme song starts being played, the GBA will freeze leaving you with a messed screen. All you can do is reset the GBA pressing all buttons at the same time.

This bug is pretty annoying, because if you want to actually end the game, you'll have to lose at least one battle (two rounds) so Akuma won't care about you and you will go straight to M.Bison, without bugs. Maybe most players won't even notice the problem since only veteran SF players will get to M.Bison without losing. That's probably why this game has passed the QA team without complaints.

I hope Capcom fix this bug soon and offer some kind of solution for customers who bought this buggy release.

Still, the game is the best thing you can get for the GBA now, the other game modes are perfect, specially the "Grand Master Challenge" which is quite a challenge even for experienced SF players. I still couldn't find out how to play the promised "Team Mode" and "Character Edit" features, but "Time Attack" and "Survival Mode" are the kind of thing a real Street Fighter fan would dream about for years...

Other problems include the boss character's "swears". They have switched the statements of Vega, Balrog and M.Bison. That's probably because these characters have their very names switched from the Japanese release to the USA release. For example, M.Bison says "Handsome fighters never lose battles", which is actually Vega's statement.

And the last problem I have found is the winning icon, which appears only in the next round after the winning. This means you'll never see the two icons from the two rounds necessary to win the battle, you'll only see one icon always. This is not a big problem, but looks ugly for sure.

Thanks for reading this review!!

Honest reviews on Super Street Fighter II- Turbo Revival

well, this game is really great one. the graphics are good looking , with like 3 new stages. the character menu is beautiful. all the old sounds are included in there. 6 battle modes to choose from and a link Vs mode for beating your friends in it. Capcom did a really good job in setting a new system for the old 6-button configuration into a new 4-button setting. But watch out, this game has around 15 glitch, and some of them are premanant, which means they might damage your catridge. Also, you can't reset those since Capcom is using an EEPROM instead of a battery inside, so you can't erase the memory. Major glitch: the game hangs when you fight akuma (no fight lost during game), but then, there are many mistakes which could be considered minor to the akuma glitch in this game. To get around this glitch, you'll have to lose a fight against a character to ensure you can continue to M.Bison and get the endings. Its taken off the shelves now, since Capcom did refund people for this game, and I heard that they're working on a newer imporved version. If you're really crazy about this game, then get the Japanese version since it doesn't hang, but then, you'd be missing the newly-redone endings. Worth your money only you're a true SF2 fan and got some cash to spend on E-auctions. Meanwhile, stick to the new and awful SF games till Capcom finds a way with this one, I hope.

This game has got a big enough character selection. The back of the box lies to you and tells you there are 8 modes when there is only really 6.The game is packed with glitches, that ruin your best times, and even crash your game!!I have not yet come across any but i went into some message boards, all of them complained of glitches(and somebody even wrote really long text telling of all the glitches). However the characters are awesome as always,i consider the graphic sprites way better than most of the now-a-day high quality graphix.I bought this game on ebay for 20 dollars.I mean this game is so rare that they quit reproducing them.most people complained to capcom and got a 40 dollar refund of the retail price. You think im that stupid??This game is like as rare and valuable as final fantasy 1 for nes!!If you can get your hands on it,you own something thats value keeps on rising. But try not to get akuma.....he startes off most of the glitches in the game(i read that text thing on glitches and there were about 35 of them). You typically have to lose atleast one match everytime in arcade mode or your game will crash.

I was excited to learn there would be a crazi taxi style game coming out using big rigs, but after I bought it I learned that it only had 4 levels and a really boring parking game. My friend and I beat the game in about 20 min. Another thing is that you can't just drive around like in crazi taxi ; you have about thirty seconds to get to each checkpoint.

The only cool thing about the game is that you can smash through anything in your way.

I recommend borrowing the game from a friend-don't waste ... on buying a game you will use for a half hour.

18 Wheeler was a good game in the arcade, and now you don't have to blow a dollar a pop to play it. The Dreamcast version is everything the arcade version is, crisp clean graphics, smooth controls, and great gameplay make this one of the last good Dreamcast games, think of it as Crazy Taxi with a big truck. Only problem is, and its a major problem at that, is this game is real short, and there are no extras, something Sega should have incorporated for their home conversion. Other than that, this is a good DC pickup.

Best Deals for 18 Wheeler American Pro Trucker

Kudos to Sega for another off-beat title. Who could have thought that one could make an entertaining game out of truck driving? Make no mistake this is a fun game. Points are also awarded for smooth, if not benchmark, animation and intuitive controls.

But shame goes to Sega for doing so little in porting the title over to a home console. With any arcade-to-console port, extras must be added or the gameplay must be modified to create replay value. Otherwise, there would be no excuse to buy the console version rather than spend the equivalent in quarters at the local arcade. Sadly, the core of the game, "arcade mode", is ported over with no change. And unlike the popular "Crazy Taxi", "18 Wheeler" does not go on and on if you are good enough. Instead, you go through a few stages and once you complete those stages ... nothing. Most people will learn to complete these stages inside of three hours. Sure, there is a "parking" challenge that is analagous to the mini-games in "Crazy Taxi", but again, once you finish them ... nothing.

Save your money and head down to your local arcade with some friends. For the equivalent number of quarters, the humorously large cabinet, life-sized trucker steering wheel, big bench seat, and loud horn will be more fun than you can ever have with this title at home.

Honest reviews on 18 Wheeler American Pro Trucker

18 Wheeler is a very fun game. It puts you in the mine as a real pro driver. You get to drive all over states. But the only problem with this game its too short. You'll get to earned money. You can get caught up with storms, crash into other trucks and cars. Most of all I think they made this game so that people will have a wonderful time. Play it with 2 players and really have a time with your life. Well enjoy your trip to Cally in a Cadillac.

Review of Xbox 360 64MB Memory Unit

Xbox 360 64MB Memory Unit
Customer Ratings: 4 stars
Buy Now
I recently purchased an Xbox 360 Core system and needed a memory unit to save my games as the Core system does not come with any memory saving hardware. I decided to purchase this memory unit because of the lower price compared to the hard drive. The unit is stated to hold 64MB worth of storage (in reality the card offers a bit less than the stated 64MB, but it is fine because this is normal).

The Xbox 360 64MB Memory Unit comes with a plastic keychain snap case, a folded instructions/warning sheet, and about a dozen glossy-white label stickers. The unit goes along well with any Xbox 360 system as the color and texture quality matches that of the Xbox 360 systems (particularly that of the original faceplates).

The unit is capable of saving a great deal of games. A massive game such as Oblivion may have a save file size of up to 1MB; using the 64MB memory unit, there will be a lot of remaining storage space for other games.

To connect to Xbox Live or Xbox Live Marketplace, any user with a 360 will need a memory unit or the detachable hard drive to setup a gamer profile. Once a gamer profile is setup, any user can connect to the Xbox Live Marketplace for downloadable content. When the Xbox 360 system is connected to Xbox Live, any updates available for the Xbox 360 system can be downloaded and applied immediately. As I recall, the system updates did not take up a lot of space (I believe they were less than 1MB).

Once connected to Xbox Live Marketplace, users can download a variety of content from movie trailers to game demos. Unfortunately due to the small amount of storage space available on the memory unit, users are limited to downloads based on file size. Xbox 360 game demos average around 700MB and HD content are often more than 100MB, making it impossible to download and view/run any type of demo or HD content with a 64MB memory unit. However, any of the non-HD, 480p content and short clips are downloadable as they require less storage space.

This memory unit is great for those who need a quick fix or require no more than bare minimal support for playing their Xbox 360 games. In the long-run I highly recommend users to skip this product and suggest the purchase of the detachable hard drive instead. The hard drive, as often cheered in the reviews, will offer a lot more function and flexibility for any Xbox 360 Core owner. For example, with a hard drive, users have the ability to play original Xbox titles, the capability of downloading larger file content such as game demos, HD movies and trailers, customizable content, and much more. So depending on which product will serve you best, you decide.

Click Here For Most Helpful Customer Reviews >>

The XBox 360 Memory Unit holds 64mb of memory in a small white unit, probably 2" x 1.5" x .5". This compares to the hard drive that holds 20 gig. This memory unit is meant to be portable and luckily for gamers, this little memory is WIDELY available so even if you can't find a hard drive for your machine, you should be able to easily find a memory unit.

The nice portability means you can bring the unit along to friends houses to play games that you've partially finished. The unit comes with a solid plastic full-surround case that is relatively sturdy. The case even has a hole cut in one corner, so that you could lock it shut or tie it to your backpack. Of course if someone REALLY wanted to get into the case to steal your memory card, it's not that hard to cut through it with a sharp knife. Still, this should at least deter the casual thief.

The cost for the memory unit is currently $39.99. The memory unit does NOT come with the XBox 360 console so you really need one if not two of them, depending on how much you like to game. In our house we usually like to have at least one memory unit per gamer. That way there aren't any arguments about "You overwrote my game file that I was working on for 1000 hours!!!" It can just take one slip of the finger to lead to sure disaster in the gaming world.

Highly recommended for every XBox 360 owner!

Best Deals for Xbox 360 64MB Memory Unit

Microsoft's Core Xbox 360 system does not support the saving of games. You can play the games but all progress is lost. This little memory unit plugs into one of two slots on the front of the console. It only holds 64mb, but with progress in 4 games, I still have 40MB free. The games' box says how much memory is needed to save. Use this if you can't get/afford a hard drive or you want to take your saved games with you.

Pros:

-The flash memory is very reliable -the chance of losing data is slim compared to the risks of a hard-drive.

-Its portable

-Allows you to save games

Cons:

-Small memory size

-Costly for the amount of storage space: 63c/mb vs 0.5c/mb with the hard drive

Honest reviews on Xbox 360 64MB Memory Unit

It's a memory unit so you can store game saves, your Xbox Live Account information, and any content downloaded through Xbox Live that's "locked" to a particular account. That's all it does. You can't connect this memory card to your computer to use it as an extra storage option either, such as moving music and photos from the computer to view through the Xbox 360. It only connects to the Xbox 360, period.

The Nintendo Wii and Sony PlayStation 3 allow you to use almost *ANY* sort of USB-based storage device, such as external hard drives, or SD card to save and store content, game saves inclusive. Given the level of storage flexibility in the other two consoles, this product simply costs too much money for the extremely limited, one-task-only functionality provided. The same problems plaguing this unit infect the other Xbox 360 storage options, including the over-priced, completely proprietary, non-standard hard drives.

You can buy a multi-gigabyte thumbdrive for the price of this one 64 MB card, but you can't use that thumbdrive to save your Xbox Live Account and Xbox 360 game saves. You can use that thumbdrive to view pictures and listen to music on your Xbox 360, though. Why the disconnect? Why not use USB for game saves and the like? There's something wrong with that sort of business model.

Two stars, for lack of compatibility, no multi-tasking uses, over reliance on proprietary methods, and lack of support for accepted storage mediums and standards.

Ok, first off just wanted to say that this is a little over priced for the amount of memory it gives you being the reason I gave it 4 instead of 5 stars. For all you people with a life out there and aren't spoiled and/or rich (meaning you didn't get the platinum system) this is perfect. You can save around 20+ games and still use Xbox live. If your a hard core gamer and download all that stuff from Xbox live this isn't what you want. I, myself bought the core system which comes with no memory unit and bought this to save myself some money. I have 12 games saved on the memory unit and Xbox live and still have 44MB left. (10 MB are used for formatting). All I do is play my games and play on Xbox live. THERE IS NO NEED FOR A 20 OR 120 GB MEMORY FOR THE CASUAL GAMER.

Really enjoy this game!! If you like driving mind blowing fast and then crashing into objects and other cars, and of course watching them blow-up, you won't do much better than this game.

Make sure you've got a beefy machine to run this, especially a good video card. It's the only way to do this game justice.

Had to knock off one star due to the music. A little too hard core RAP Crap for my liking. Could have thrown in something for the 40+ driving fans who know a good driving game and what good music is. Have fun!!

This game is lots of stupid "bash the other guy with you car" fun. There are several fun race modes including, but no limited to, racing (in three classes: derby (using junker cars), race (using smooth racers), and street race (using the famous cool looking sedans and coupes everybody knows), and demolition derby (bashing good fun!). The graphics are pretty good (not incredible) and run smoothly on my modest rig (2.4GHz core 2 duo, WinXP, 2GB RAM, 2ms monitor, nVidia 8800GTX video, and SB LIVE! 24bit sound).

Some game modes are smashing fun that will make you laugh out loud. Like the driver throw. It's tremendous fun. To play online you need to register a LIVE account and an xBox account (exactly as in Kane & Lynch: Dead Men).

One tiny flaw of the same (in my opinion) is the music. They definitely dropped the ball here. The "heavy" metal is not heavy at all and you best turn it off completely and enjoy your own WMP in the background. People who played NFS:U2 (remember the soundtrack?) will understand me.

Overall the game is pretty fun and probably worth buying.

My family loves this game. We all play together, taking turns driving. The game is simply VERY fun. It may not be the best sim, the hottest cars, the most glamorous settings etc but all together, the sence of humor, action, and mood make it one of the best games I have ever played. I use a logitech g25, and a 101 inch projection screen and this really makes the fast paced action come alive. Runs great in Win 7, and controllers work perfectly. I highy recomend it. I wish they would make a deathtrack like version with guns etc. I think they would do a good job.

Honest reviews on Flatout: Ultimate Carnage

You'd never think of driving your car into another car in real life, but in this game, you get _points_ for doing that. And nitro. Bonus! So, you get used to looking for other cars which are vulnerable to a big hit, and you go after them. It's quite satisfying to "blast out" another driver (knock him/her through their windshield). And the more damage you do in the hit, the more points and nitro you get.

Sounds violent, but this is about escape. I have a lot of stress in my life right now, and it's a great way to blow off some steam.

Game Modes: Flatout Mode and Carnage Mode.

Flatout Mode: This is a sequence of increasingly difficult races. Each set of races comprises a "cup". You must win or place highly in multiple races to win the cup and move on. You must win 3rd or better (Bronze) to advance. Each cup you win opens a bonus race--either a Carnage Race (points for winning, passing checkpoints, and damage to other cars), a Demolition Derby (usually a deathmatch--survive as long as you can, and get bonus points for the damage you cause), or Time Trial (reach a time goal on a track--no nitro). When you've passed enough cup levels, you get some big bonus cash and unlock cars. There are three Flatout levels: Derby, Race, and Street. There's also a bonus level which uses all cars. Each level uses faster cars and gets increasingly harder. Nice thing: you don't have to finish a given level to start the next level (e.g., you don't have to finish Derby 100% to start Race, etc.).

You have to manage your cash in Flatout Mode to get the best car for your driving style and trick it out to be the fastest and strongest it can be. The mid-level bonus cash coincides with unlocked cars, so it's a nice time to upgrade. You might have to buy a car in order to figure out if it's right for you. It's a bummer that you only get 50% back from the investment if you decide to sell, but at least you can sell it if you need to. Keep in mind that you can do cups and bonus events as many times as you wish in order to build up cash.

Carnage Mode: This is more of an arcade mode. You might be familiar with "get this many points and unlock this next event" kinds of games, and this is one of those. You start out with a Carnage Race, a Stunt (using the driver as the projectile!), a Demolition Derby (do as much damage as you can with four lives), and a Beat the Bomb run (go as far as you can and pass as many checkpoints as you can before your car explodes). For each event, you get points. At certain point levels, you open up new events. You then do those, get more points, open other events, etc. This is a nice mode to be in if you only have a few minutes to play (which frequently happens in my house). There are probably (I'm guessing) about 40 or so events.

In Carnage Mode, the cars for each event are chosen for you, and so you get a lot of variety. This can be a good thing, but it also means that for each event, you have to learn the quirks of the particular car. They all drive differently.

The stunts are really fun and interesting. Many are quite hard, and require some practice to get right. The carnage races are fun, the Beat the Bomb runs are my least favorite (I just do them for the points), and the Demo Derbies are great fun.

Stunts are done in a stadium atmosphere with some very European-sounding, incomprehensible blather coming from a PA announcer. Meh.

The Demo Derbies at the end get quite hard--the last one is with the smallest, weakest Derby car, which makes scoring points way hard.

In addition to the Flatout and Carnage modes, there's also a Single Event mode in which you can pick any event to do.

I hate the music and I have it turned off.

All in all, a fantastic game that cost me about six clams. I plan to continue playing this one for a long while.

I just got this, and I have to say the price is worth it. I'd expected Flatout Ultimate Carnage might be a pretty tired rehash, given that it's up against the likes of Gran Turismo, Grid, Need for Speed, Sega Rally Revo and especially Burnout.

Thankfully, Flatout seems to have pulled the best features of its competitors together in a game that's not very sophisticated, but is a lot of fun. Here you have the environmental physics of Sega Rally Revo and Dirt: standing water, mud, dust, and pavement all have an effect on your vehicle. You have the damage gradient of Need for Speed: Pro Street in that your car can lose bits and pieces of itself and get a bit shaky, but it'll still run all the way through the race. And finally, you have the crazy antics of Burnout: crash your car (or other players), smash into things, and you charge your boost meter. Wreck spectacularly to get achievements. Tap the "Reset" button and you plunk back down in the middle of the road, in the middle of the action.

As if that isn't enough, like its cousins in the genre, Flatout lets you keep a garage of many cars, customizing each to your liking with specific upgrades. Since the physics is an integral part of the enviroment, you feel the difference with each vehicle and each change you make to it. You go through a career mode with multiple race types and varying tracks. Some tracks will repeat themselves across tiers, but the fact that you have a different goal (e.g., race versus derby mode) makes it never a dull moment.

The only real drawback to Flatout Ultimate Carnage is that it is easy. I'm no pro, but I quickly climbed the ladder. Many places in the road are designed to hand you stuff to smash into so you charge your boost meter, most AI drivers aren't too smart, and I often found myself with a nice healthy addition to my boost meter if I had to reset the vehicle: use it immediately and you're back up to speed within seconds.

One other drawback for PC users is that this game really doesn't play well with a keyboard. It's awkward, and without bothering to map the keys to some custom configuration, I found it much easier to just go ahead and use the XBox 360 Controller like the manual tells you to. You'll find the biggest advantage in the gas pedal: on the keyboard it's either full throttle or coasting when you tap the accelerator, but on the XBox 360 Controller, the trigger understands the difference when you just give it a squeeze: it picks up on the nuances you need to handle your car through the curves.

I thought I'd give a review from the point of view of someone completely new to the guitar, for those of you out there like me who are wondering if this will really teach you or if it'll be a frustrating waste of money. First off, I'll say that it isn't easy. As someone completely unfamiliar with the frets and the strings, I had a tough time starting out very slow and clumsy. BUT, you'll see improvement REALLY quickly. I've only been playing for about two hours and although I still suck, I'm having a great time and I'm already loads better than I was when I started out. The only reason I stopped was because my finger got sore from holding down the strings. So far, for someone who's wanted to learn and either never had the time or money to take lessons, or found practice to be tedious and dropped it, or just doesn't have a mind for reading music, this is a definite recommendation. If anything changes as I get further along, I'll update this review. But as of now, I love it!

UPDATE 10/21: The good news first I'm still absolutely loving the game and steadily improving. I'm only able to play about one to two hours a day, but even though that's all the time I'm able to put in, I'm already to the point of being able to play along with a song. But (here comes the downside), with my improvement audio lag has become a real issue. Before I was so horrible that I couldn't hit the right notes at all, let alone on time, so it didn't make much difference. But now that I've improved, it's a problem. To be fair, they warn you about this in the form of a pamphlet inside the game box, so it wasn't out of nowhere. I was just hoping that since I wasn't using HDMI, the lag wouldn't be too horrible. Wrong.

For those of you out there with a stereo or home theater system, you'll be fine as long as you run the audio directly from the xbox through that. But since I have neither, I was stuck. I ended up bringing down my old CD player from my bathroom, just to see if that would work. SO much better. But since I didn't want to leave that ugly thing sitting under my TV in my living room I went out and checked around for speaker prices. After the money spent on the game and the guitar, I didn't really want to put too much more money into this. I ended up with a Turtle Island headset for $40. It seems to be doing the trick. Just be prepared for this extra expenditure if you don't have an external speaker system in place.

As others have said, this game is not a replacement for a human guitar teacher. The advantage here is that you get to jump in and start playing songs right away, and let's face it, that's the reason alot of folks give up on their "regular" lessons early on. Nobody wants to spend five days learing how to tune their guitar even though they should. Nobody wants to spend another fifteen days learning how to play "Mary Had a Little Lamb" even though they should. People want to pick up the guitar and play "Sunshine of Your Love" in ten minutes, and Rocksmith lets you do that... sorta.

Rocksmith won't teach you to play any song you want on the guitar in a week's time, but what it does is get you used to holding the instrument and what to do with your hands. The first time I ever played Guitar Hero, I think I might have hit a total of ten notes in the song. But eventually my left hand learned which button was which and how far apart they're spaced, to where now I can play alot of songs on 'expert' without looking at the controller. Same concept here. Within about an hour my left hand learned how far apart the third and fifth fret were and I could transition between the two with a fair amount of success without looking at the guitar. If you want to learn the guitar, Rocksmith is a great jumping-off point. Play around with it, get familiar with the instrument, then take some professional lessons or buy the self-instructional DVD's if you want to learn the nuts and bolts of what it is you're actually doing. If you don't want to take it that far, play the game for a few months and impress your friends next time you go over to their house by picking up that old acoustic guitar sitting in the corner and busting out some Nirvana Unplugged for them.

Long story short: I bought a guitar, I bought the books, and I bought the DVD's. Nothing was more boring or frustrating than sitting in my living room by myself with a book open in front of me or a DVD playing, trying to teach myself the guitar. I learned nothing. Rocksmith is fun... end of story. If I learn to play the guitar when it's all said and done then great! If not, it's still a ton of fun. Analyzing the reviews out there and most importantly who wrote them should help you make your decision. Gamers are rating it low and musicians are rating it high, that should tell you exactly what you need to know. I'm not saying one group is right and one is wrong, just that one is viewing it as a "video game" like Guitar Hero or Call of Duty, and one is viewing it as an interactive instructional tool for beginners and/or a fun diversion for professionals. If you're a gamer looking for a game, pass. It's too expensive and there aren't any guys with funny accents for you to blow away with an M16 or quests for dragon's balls. If you're a guitarist or a wannabe guitarist who also happens to own a video game console, it's a must buy.

** UPDATE ** Now that I've had and played the game for a week or two, I'd like to expand on my review a bit.

Before I bought Rocksmith I could not play the guitar. I mean it, I could not play a single chord or make any sound that resembled any part of any song in the known universe. Now I can play through "In Bloom" and "Sweet Home Alabama" with relative success every time. Herein lies both the benefit and the drawback of Rocksmith. Yes, I can play both of those songs I mentioned (among others) as long as I'm playing along with the game, but I haven't truly learned the songs. I don't know what notes I'm playing and I cannot apply what I know about playing "In Bloom" to any song not in the game.

When a human guitar teacher teaches you, you learn that placing your left hand here and strumming the string(s) like this is called G-sharp, or E-flat, or the G-chord or whatever. Rocksmith simply shows you that putting your left hand here during "In Bloom" and strumming these strings with your right hand during "In Bloom" will make the proper sound for that part of "In Bloom." I haven't truly learned what it means to play those notes, only how to play them. I don't see how the lessons learned would transfer into being able to read, play or understand any song not in the game.

That said, am I changing my review or my recommendation? Absolutely not! I stand by what I said originally: Rocksmith shows you how to hold the guitar, where to place your hands, and how to play notes. It allows you to play songs right away without trudging through days/months/weeks of music theory or just playing one chord over and over until your fingers bleed. If you want to know the "nuts and bolts" behind why when you place your left hand here and strum with your right hand there it makes the sound it makes, buy some instructional books or hire a human teacher. I guarantee you'll be a step ahead of where you would have after playing Rocksmith than you would if you hadn't.

The only thing I feel really needs improvement before Rocksmith 2 comes out is the on-the-fly difficulty needs more fine tuning. For example, after playing "In Bloom" on what was surely the lowest setting the game offers, I felt like I was getting the hang of it and wanted more notes to come at me. It took a while before it thought I was worthy of more notes but when it finally did, it threw them at me fast and a-plenty! Only after failing miserably two or three times in a row did it slow it back down for me, but even then it slowed it down too much. Finally it hit a happy medium with me and I felt comfortable with the pace, but that was after playing the song through four or five times either too slow or too fast. It's a great concept and amazing technology but it has much room for improvement.

Overall I stand firmly behind my day-one review. Rocksmith may not be the best teacher in the world, but it's a helluva fun game and it took this guy somebody who'd barely even held a guitar and turned him somebody who can actually play the guitar... to a certain extent. But I am getting better!

** UPDATE FOR MY UPDATE **

This game's been out for about a month now and I can say I have some serious time into it. It's still fun and I still like it, but I'm demoting it from my original 5-star review to 4-stars based on some shortcomings I can't ignore. I know my review's already so long most people haven't even read it, so I'll keep this short lol!

1) The adaptive difficulty feature needs some serious refinement. I touched on this earlier, but it switches between "Eric Clapton Mode" and "Chimp Holding a Guitar Mode" too often and never at the right times. When I start to ge the hang of a song, it triples the single notes and throws all the chords at me at once. When I screw that up as I invariably do, it takes me back down to what must be the lowest possible level and it throws me off.

2) There should be a section where you can practice chords as long as you want. As it is now, you can play these short little songs consisting of a few chords repeated, but once you've finished the song you're done. The mini-game "Dawn of the ChorDead" is (or should I say "could be") awesome, but they should let you turn off the scoring and just play as long as you want. It's alot of fun and I felt like I was learning, but when you get eaten by the zombies you have to start all over again. Which leads me to one of my biggest gripes...

3) LOAD TIMES! They're inexcusably loooong and are honestly ruining the entire experience for me. I'm a beginner. I never played or barely even held a guitar before this game came out. I need a section where I can just practice chords, hammer-ons, pull-offs, and all that other stuff over and over again until my fingers bleed. Sure, there are a couple different sections where you can practice all those techniques now... for a few minutes, then you have sit through a load screen for feels like an eternity if you want to do it again. If I could play the Riff Repeater 100 times in a row like I want and not 5 times like it makes you, or I could play "Dawn of the ChorDead" for as long as I want and not only until I miss 2 or 3 chords and get eaten by the zombies, then the load times wouldn't be an issue to me whatsoever.

I still like this game and I still play it often, but it's not perfect. Hopefully Rocksmith 2 will have the necessary improvements.

Best Deals for Rocksmith - Xbox 360

In reading the reviews written about Rocksmith so far, I can see a little of myself in almost every reviewer. I was the guy who bought an all-in-one guitar starter kit in his early 20s because he thought he could learn to play from a DVD. I'm also the typical Guitar Hero/Rock Band-turned-real guitarist. I've taken lessons from both self-taught and accredited instructors and have been playing about 2.5 years now. I figured if I could go from failing the easiest song in Guitar Hero I to playing almost every song at 90+% Expert in Rock Band 3, I could learn to play a real guitar if I was willing to dedicate the same amount of time to that as I did a video game. I was really excited when Rock Band 3 announced it would have pro mode. Not only to be able to play a real guitar along with the game, but just to have accurate tabs for some of my favorite songs (accurate in the sense that if I learned the chords and notes, I could play the song--I understand there will always be debates about how some published tabs aren't written the same way the original artist plays a song). Of course you can buy tab books, but why pay $20-30 for each one when you really only care about a few of the songs? I tried to jump right in to RB3 pro mode, only to find it much more difficult than I anticipated. Granted, I started in Expert mode right away, with the idea that I would play along with the chords I knew, fumble through the trickier licks and flub the solos to get through the songs. Here are the main reasons why Rocksmith was such a welcome sight:

1) Horizontal charts. Think about it: sheet music is written horizontally. Tablature is written horizontally. When holiding a guitar, the instrument and your hands are horizontal. By not changing the layout of its pro note charts, Rock Band 3 forces players' brains to have to mentally rotate the frets they're reading 90 degrees in order to interpret them. Who has the ability to do that and play along in real time except established guitarists who are already familiar with a song? The tutorials even show horizontal hand and guitar neck placement when guiding gamers in training mode, so they acknowledge that's the easiest way to learn to play, but didn't think to change the game accordingly. Rocksmith's horiztonal, hologram/3D imagery is much more intuitive, and the notes/chords act as an overlay to your fretboard as the song plays. To me, this makes it much easier to try to line up your hand with what you see on the screen--in terms of finding frets as well as the correct string with your picking hand (something else that is more difficult to do with a vertical layout). In addition, the fretboard on the screen is numbered to coincide with the neck of the guitar the player is holding. That sure beats trying to read the little numbers for each string you need to fret to form a chord or the blue "hill" design of notes relative to the root of a chord in RB3. It also helps anticipate where the next note/chord will be, since the fretboard is what remains constant as the notes change.

2) The use of your own guitar. I applaud Mad Catz and Fender for the designs of the pro guitars they introduced for Rock Band 3. I've owned them both and can't think of any way they could be better, but each one has its flaws. The plastic Mad Catz Mustang doesn't give you a realistic feel, since each row of buttons representing the strings is the same size, eliminating the tactile response of feeling string gauge to know which one you're playing. It also hinders visual response, since all you can see is a sea of identical plastic buttons when you look down to try to find your place. In addition, the coated strings don't vibrate or "give" as much as real strings because they're short and anchored down at each end. I felt like I had to be extra careful not to break it. I've gone through enough standard Rock Band guitar controllers; at $150, I wouldn't want to replace the Mustang anytime soon. The Fender Squier is a remarkable idea in its design for the game, but it's a terrible guitar for standalone playing. That's where Rocksmith really excels. I don't know how well the guitar included in the bundle is designed, but for anyone who already owns a guitar they're comfortable with, it's a great headstart in playing the game over being forced to struggle with an instrument that doesn't feel good in your hands. Guitars are like shoes--you have to find what fits you best and feels the most comfortable or you'll be miserable.

3) "Freestyle" playing within a song/user feedback (this may be the most important difference from all previous rhythm games). When playing Guitar Hero or Rock Band, you only have one chance to get the note right. If you miss it, no sound will come from the game to tell you if the note was played correctly or incorrectly, albeit at the wrong time. After playing Rocksmith awhile, it's obvious the game determines accuracy by the output of your guitar, not which fret you played. That is, if your guitar is out of tune, the game will fault you because it's not using electronics in the fretboard to detect which note was played, it's using the signal sent from your guitar through the cable (just llike an amp would). This is great because you still get feedback from the game that you hit the right note, even if it was late. You still hear the tone from the speakers, not the "chukka-chink" noise of a missed note. This is very rewarding feedback because even if you don't hit the note at the right time and get any points, at least you're hearing what you played and learning the hand/eye coordination and muscle memory necessary to playing guitar. Remember when you learned to read and your teacher hounded you to take the time to sound out a word you didn't know instead of just skipping over it? The same concept applies here. You can't just bypass notes and move on if you expect to learn how to play guitar. You have to force yourself to do it the right way. Having the opportunity to play the note again and hear the way it's supposed to sound allows your brain to associate hand position with the corresponding sound. The audio feedback also makes the game as real as it gets--a guitar doesn't care if you play a note late or wrong, it's still going to make a sound. You'll know immediately if you hit a sour note because the tone of your guitar won't match the song. That makes it incredibly easy to make adjustments without having to look at the screen/guitar/screen/guitar to figure out what you're doing wrong. If the note you played sounds flat, you know to move your finger up a fret; if it sounds sharp, slide it down a fret.

4) The game addresses alternate tuning. As I mentioned in point 3, Rocksmith uses the signal sent from your guitar to determine if you played the correct note/chord. It's the most pure way to communicate with the game. Harmonix should be ashamed of itself for not thinking of such an obvious approach when designing RB3 pro mode, and instead creating cheap replica guitars to be used with the game. I've only seen one alternate tuning in Rocksmith so far (drop D), but making it a point to have players tune their guitar relative to the song being played is a key instructional tool that was overlooked in RB3. I've even read comments on YouTube about how someone trying to learn through that game wouldn't be able to play the song in real life because they wouldn't be aware of the alternate tuning.

I'm relieved to see that the general first impression of the game is a favorable one. As one reviewer said, playing Rocksmith makes you forget you're perfoming a task and takes those familiar with the original Guitar Hero back to the day they first picked up a red plastic SG. Personally, I'm already looking forward to downloadable content so that I can start building my library and stop relying on sites with poorly written tablature to learn a new song. There aren't many things that are a bigger waste of time than memorizing a song just to find out you learned it wrong.

Honest reviews on Rocksmith - Xbox 360

If you want to feel like a rockstar (now) play Rockband, if you want to (eventually) be a rockstar play Rocksmith.

This game has a very specific target audience that must have patience and dedication. It won't make you Dave Navarro, Stevie Ray Vaughan, or Jimmy Page over night but it will certainly get you pointed in the right direction. There is a lot of commitment involved with this game because you are actually learning a real instrument, which is never easy.

I'm a self taught bass player with a handful of 6 strings that I've fiddled with on and off for the past several years. The fact that I can plug my PRS, which I don't deserve at all, into my Xbox and start playing songs is an amazing thing all by itself. I really enjoy this game and think it has tremendous potential as a teaching tool, but there are some kinks that need to be worked out. I would still recommend it to anyone seriously interested in learning guitar.

One of the trickiest parts about learning to play songs on your own is getting the effects right, which can be tough even if you own the same equipment that the song was recorded with. Rocksmith takes care of that for you and if you do well enough on a song you unlock that setting in "Amp" mode. In amp mode you get to play around with your sound and add different effects or play through different amps/guitars with no song requirements just like you would in your basement. I haven't played with it much yet but it seems to be a really cool tool if you have the patience and like to tinker with effects.

As everyone has stated, you start each song at the very root level until you've hit a required percentage of notes to move that section up in difficulty. While this is great for begginners it's frustrating for those of us with some experience. I would like the option to start at higher difficulties and adjust down if need be. Occasionally you will complete the appropriate percentage and get bumped up just to get kicked back down while trying to figure out the additions in the rift, which can again be frustrating.

While I'm talking about frustrating I have to mention the "Riff Repeater" mode which is where you can practice sections of the song. This is absolutely infuriating and a terrible way to be forced to practice specific sections. There are three modes you can choose from, one designed to progress you through the levels until you are playing the song note for note and the other two are just to practice the section. For all of them you are given five chances to play perfectly, or at least a requisite percentage correctly, and then it kicks you at just to start over if you don't perform to standard. The two modes that are not designed to level you up stop each time you miss a note, which is frustrating because it messes up your timing and doesn't give you a very clear picture of which note you missed. I will be doing my best to stay away from these two all together and probably use the leveling mode rarely due to the aggravation and headaches they cause.

On top of the difficulty of learning to play an instrument, there's a bit of a learning curve with the symbols for techniques and sometimes being able to tell which fret you're supposed to be on. If you're familiar with tablature notation you shouldn't have much problem figuring what technique it wants you to use after a couple trys. If you're not familiar with tablature I would recomend checking if there are any technique tutorials before beginning a song. The tutorials are helpful, for example I learned how to palm mute better, and you can skip straight to the exercise if you already know how to execute the particular technique.

In order to play a gig you have to qualify on each song in the set list. It recomends songs for each gig and has a minimum score that you must meet in "Rehearsal," which is not the same as "Riff Repeater." You can add or remove songs from your set list as long as you dont go above/below the min/max number of songs. Unfortunately you have to qualify for every song your going to play for every gig even if you've played it at a gig before. The number of points required to qualify on a song already played at a gig seems to be exponentially greater than the initial time.

The last complaint that I have about the actual gameplay is that it doesn't always register up strokes in some faster sections. For example, "Go with the Flow" by Queens of the Stone Age is full of fast notes that are much less tiring to play if you alternate up and down strokes, but when I do that the game tells me I've missed a large portion of the notes. When I only use downstrokes I hit 100% of the notes... I tried turning my tuning knobs a hair tighter and it helped a little but it's still an issue.

The game, on an ascetic level, is extremely dull and boring. The venues are bland, the crowd is the same three or four people cloned over and over, the intro video puts me to sleep and the menus are dark and simple. The load times are a good bit longer than I would like, but at least you get to play guitar during them.

What I would like to see in the future:

A lot of DLC

Practice mode with adjustable timing and no lives

Bass guitar support

Notes, especially start/stop points of slides, that are more easily identifiable

This game is a great learning tool and intro to guitar. It's always fun to play your favorite songs and maybe add some new favorites to your library. It's a good way to practice and much easier than trying to teach yourself songs with shaky tabs pulled off the internet. Be warned that this product teaches ZERO music theory, so aspiring musicians will be left in the dark when trying to play with other musicians, but that's easily rectified by supplementing this tool with boring, but necessary, books.

All in all I'm very happy with the $80 I spent on this game and am looking forward to playing more when I get home. I will continue to support this product and hopefully some good DLC will come out soon and Rocksmith 2 will have the kinks worked out and be even more enjoyable, and therefore sucessful, game that will introduce many many more aspiring musicians to the joy, and woes, of playing music.

A little background you get a perspective for where this review is coming from:

I am 28 and have been trying to teach myself guitar for around 7 years with little success. I have found it difficult to afford lessons. I have found dedication to the learning of guitar lacking as I enjoy gaming quite a bit. I will pick up my guitar, learn some new basic skill, and then step away from it for months on end. I then repeat this cycle. When I first played Guitar Hero on the PS2 way back when I hoped that a game would come out to teach the real guitar without the use of some plastic toy.

This is that very game.

For the price of 2 guitar lessons you get a huge amount of content and an UNLIMITED amount of lessons. I have been very impressed with this so far.

I plugged in my Epiphone Les Paul Special GT 2 and the game walked me through a tuning process asking me specific details about my particular guitar to tailer the expierience to the guitar I was using. It detected my volumte and tone settings as well. The game will also check to see of you are in tune prior to each song or riff attempted.

The progressive difficulty is great! You can attempt any song and it will throw the most basic structure of the song at you to start with. As you hit more notes the game will add more notes much like any decent guitar teacher would. The visual response for hitting the note on the guitar helps commit your hand position to muscle memory which is exactly what you need to get familiar with the fretboard.

As far as the visual interface goes and the note delivery you really need to expierience it for yourself. I find it hard to describe other than "natural". It really feels natural. If you have every held a guitar and understand the very basics of tabs you will get it right from the start. In case you don't there is a tutorial on how to read it.

This is the perfect game for anyone who wants to learn the guitar and I cannot praise this game enough for what it has done to my skillset in the few hours I've spent playing. Practicing has always been an issue for me and I don't see that being an issue any further. I want to play this game. I want to play the guitar. It is no longer practice. You get to see your improvement as it happens.

If you want to learn the guitar buy this game. It is $80 well spent.

For gameplay videos, details from the developers etc please visit Rocksmith's YouTube page.

Now that I'm done telling you how great this game is I'm going to go fire it back up and learn a little something :)

UPDATE 10/25/2011:

After a week with the game my intial impressions remain accurate. I have spent more time in the last week playing guitar than I thought the game would encourage me to. In the span of 7 seven days I have learned 2 songs. Actually LEARNED two songs and the techniques required to play them. I am able to play more than just a power chrod arrangement along the lines of anything by Green Day.

There have been some people on Rocksmith's Facebook and YouTube channels complaining about lag. There is an onscreen prompt letting you know there can be lag and how to avoid it. Set your TV to game mode to start with if you are connecting using an HDMI cable to your xbox. I highly recomend getting the seperate audio hookup for the xbox as well. Many who use headphones know of the adapter I'm speaking of. Since Amazon does not allow links in reviews use this search phrase:

"RCA Audio Cable Adapter for XBOX 360 + Slim"

That is the adapter you need. In order to utilize headphones with this adapter you will need another cable:

"Cables To Go 03182 3.5mm Stereo Female to RCA Male Y-Cable"

Once you have both those cables you will have a lag free expierience over headphones. Alternarely you can use that RCA jack to run the audio though a home theater, amplifier, or (with the purchase of seperate RCA cables) a guitar amplifier. I recently purchased a great pair of headphones called Sennheiser HD448's and they perform amazingly well with the game. Anyone who has started the process of learning the guitar knows the investment into the equipment is expensive. Having a high quality pair of studio style headphones is an imporatnt part of that investment and you should have a pair. Sennheiser will give you the best quality for your money at a mid-range price level and will rival over priced models such as Beats by Dr. Dre.

Thanks to Rocksmith and the Sennheiser headphones I was able to power through Go With The Flow by Queens of the Stone Age at 99% only missing notes when I was double checking my finger position and trying to find the rhythm. Finger position became natrual the second time through the track at it's highest difficulty level and I didn't have to second guess my hand position once. Thanks to the instant visual response you know where your hand is and whether or not you're playing the song correctly. Becoming familiar and comfortable with the fretboard has been one of my biggest challenges in teaching myself how to play. It is becoming less of an issue with each hour sunk into Rocksmith. The sense of accomplishment after that 99% score was fantastic. I was also able to watch the replay and identify where I needed to focus.

I really liked the idea of playing the guitar 7 years ago when I bought my Strat Squire on a whim. It's crazy that having the visual response this game provides that I am now actually playing and learning. My Gibson is no longer sitting in it's case in a closet. It is out and used for a minimum of 3 hours a day. You couldn't force me to do that even a month ago.

Speaking of guitars; spend a little money on your guitar. Starter packs are fine but can be discouraging when the quality of the product impedes your learning. As stated above I have had the standard Strat Squire many start with and after a short time with it I just didn't like how it felt. There are budget guitars and there are value guitars. Epiphone from Gibson is the way to go in my opinion. If you are just buying one online and don't want to go to a music shop for a test drive I would recomend this one:

"Epiphone LP Special II Les Paul Collection Electric Guitar, Ebony"

Again, Amazon search phrase. It keeps it's tune very well, has easy action, a smooth neck, and feels right when it's in your hands. For a guitar under $200 this is a great value guitar. If you're willing to spend a bit more then get a hard case for your guitar as well. Epiphone has a case for nearly every guitar they manufacture.

All of this info is meant for the beginner using this game as a learning tool like myself. These are lessons I've learned in teaching myself. I hope you find the review and general info helpful.

Good luck on your journey :)

This is the updated, series 2 version of Wrecking Ball, he's the CUTEST character of them all and very fun to play, especially for kids since he burps to take out his enemies and attacks them with his sticky long tongue! He's a magic element character and he works on both the original Skylanders Spyro's Adventures game & the new Skylanders Giants game which is great if you want to play him on the original! He can be used on all game systems: Nintendo 3DS, Nintendo Wii, Playstation 3, and Xbox 360 systems! A great addition to any collection!

Difference between this series 2 version and the original series 1 version of Wrecking Ball: He can level up to 15 now and has a WOW POW power that puts him into a fun rolling disco ball to roll over his enemies in, plus his teeth have grown much longer than before!

Yoshi's Story

As you may have read, the general consensus is that Yoshi's Story is a fine 2D platformer for children to play, but offers little challenge for the rest of the market. I strongly disagree with this.

I have been an avid gamesplayer for nigh on 11 years, from the NES (Famicom) right through to the N64. I own virtually every Mario/Yoshi title, and Yoshi's Story is my favourite to date.

True, if a player just plunders through the game, it can be finished within an hour, two at most. But dedicated gamers will find themselves caught in the real groove. The hook in this game is to NURUTRE your Yoshi.

Different fruits are favoured/disfavoured by each Yoshi. A casual gamer who just wants another straightforward platformer will find such mushy sentiment ludicrous and down as many of any kind of fruit possible to finish the game. However, a devoted gamer will discover the joy in sniffing out and hunting down their Yoshi's favourite fruit.

All Yoshi's love melons, and to find all 30 in one course, as well as the three hearts needed to unlock each world, AND to discover the secret White and Black Yoshis, PLUS killing every shyguy to make Yoshi's happiness quota higher, not to mention finding power bees, and collecting every coin from every course to unlock a rumoured 'hidden' Yoshi, is a gargantuan task indeed. Of course, there a those who just won't care about all this. But to those few dedicated gamers, who, like me, appreciate the subtler side of computer entertainment, I urge you, BUY THIS GAME!

FYI, I got to the end credits in an hour. A year on, I'm still looking for all the secrets. And this is a gamer whos finished each and every Zelda game (excluding Majora's Mask) within six weeks, tops.

the game has great graphics, and good gameplay, good characters, and great levels. But, this game is not quite for people 11 years old and up. The game is a great game for little kids, its one of those non-violent, friendly games. Even the boss, that thing could hardly scare anything. So, if you have little kids(3-8) buy the game for them, they'll love it, especially since its short and difficult looking, that way, when your kids finish the game, they'll think they can master anything! Plus, it has good kid music and friendly cute looking worlds, and all those cute yoshis make such cute noices. I bought the game being the "good nintendo fan", also, if you collect nintendo character games(mario, zelda, donkey kong, etc.) you can't miss this one.

The first game was great! My daughter played it constantly (to be honest, so did I). By when my son lost it, she opted to try this one instead of replacing the old one. Well, at 6, she was able to beat in with the first day of owning it. While she likes it, I think she likes the ability to "tink", which she loved in the first. But, you cannot make outfits or jewelry like you could in the first one. Because it was such as bust, I am going to buy the first one for her again. If they come out with a third version, I will wait for reviews before purchasing.

For those of you who loved the first Tinkerbell game, you will be disappointed in the second one. The game is able to be played in two different modes, one story mode and one fairy mode. The fairy mode is very much like the first game only this time you are able to be the type of fairy you want and then do little chores for other fairies. You also have a little house to decorate. It is very fun but they dumbed it down so much from the first game, if you are looking for a challenge, dont get the game. The story mode is INCREDIBLY simple. I was able to beat it in less than a hour. No challenge. No excitement. Very sad little game.

My daughter cannot stop playing this game, she received several other ds games and this seems to be her favorite by far. She likes the option to play as five different fairies and the cards that come with the game that she gets to use by typing in the different numbers for codes. She also like the scenery in the game and to also decorate her fairies home.

Honest reviews on Tinkerbell 2 Lost Treasure - Nintendo DS

The first tinkerbell game went on and on and on and it was good! Fun.. this game there are two parts.. story mode and fairy mode.. I beat story mode in less than an hour.. way too simple.. the fairy mode you can make up to 5 fairies in different talents. you do a few things for other fairies and then your story is over.. then you get to do it all over again for another talent fairy.. the first one was developed so much better game play wise.. however, I do like the graphics and the different places in this one compared to the first one.. the movement isnt as much fun. I dont know.. high scores for tink game number one.. medium scores for tink game number 2.. I hope the 3rd one is much better.
