As a more casual gamer, I never really understood the necessity of wearing a headset while playing on the Playstation Network or Xbox Live. The Afterglow headset definitely helped me cross that line. I have become familiar with several other gaming headsets through my roommates and other friends, but never was impressed enough to pull the trigger for a pair of my own. I am very happy to have had these given to me as a gift, because I may have never experienced them otherwise.

When it comes to sound quality, as an owner of a pair of Bose QC Headphones (which coincidentally crapped out on me right after the one year warranty expired) and a pair of V-Moda Crossfades, I am very particular and value headphones with crisp, clear sound and solid bass. When I first took this set out of the box, I plugged them directly into my iPod rather than my Xbox. I was astonished with the sound quality, something I didn't quite expect from a pair of headphones built primarily for gaming. Although I still take my Crossfades out the door with me (they are a bit more streamlined) I have found myself using my Afterglow headphones as my primary music listening headphones while at home. The sound is fantastic whether the volume is cranked up or you're listening at a whisper level. Vocals are very clear, and it is easy to separate the sounds of instruments in the music or footsteps and gunfire while gaming. While they are not noise-cancelling, the quality design of the headphones helps block out a fair amount of outside noise, which I find to maximize the sound experience.

One of the most attractive features of these headphones is the inner headband design. Unlike anything I've worn before, at first I was very skeptical of the suspension style strap. I quickly found that it maximizes the comfort of the headphones, while also eliminating the need for the more common click-slide size adjusters (which I now find irritating) found on most other headphones. This headband makes it so there are no noticeable pressure points on the headphones, which is ideal when you find yourself on a multi-hour gaming or music bender. All other headphones that I have used extensively begin to irritate my ears or head after a couple of hours, I have yet to experience that with this set. Additionally the earcups are large enough to fit my oversized ears comfortably without being bulky, a compromise that I generally find lacking in most headphone designs. The only other notable design feature is the retractable microphone, a great feature which makes these headphones a lot less clunky than similarly priced gaming headphones, without sacrificing any quality. Other than that, the design is very effective, nothing too flashy, but much more than you would expect for the reasonable price.

Another feature I find extremely valuable about these headphones is the multi-platform capability. Unlike many other gaming headphones, these are compatible with all major platforms, something that is very useful as all of my roommates/friends seem to prefer different gaming platforms.

Overall, I definitely recommend these headphones for the casual to serious gamer who is looking for a lot of bang for their buck. I have yet to have any issues with this Afterglow set, and would definitely be interested in hearing what people have to say about the wireless set, which I'm sure will be my next gaming headphone purchase when the time comes. Comfortable design and great sound quality make for a great pair of headphones. The lighting effects are just a bonus! Hope this was helpful.

Having used many headsets over many consoles, i can gladly say that the afterglow headset can be placed on the top of my list. The sound quality is amazing compared to other headsets at its price and can even be compared to headsets twice the amount paid for it. Every game I have tried with these did not disappoint with the sound quality i received. The only problem I had with them was the tightness I had when I first used them. But after a week of using them they started to mold and fit snug around my head so it wasn't really a problem.

I will revise this review after I get some service from PDP. I'm a female gamer so it fits my head just perfect alittle big in fact, this is the first headset I have ever owned like this and was a gift from my mom for a late Christmas present. after receiving though is where the 3 stars comes into play I need an adapter cable for it to work on my PS3, that is not provided with the headset you have to contact PDP, so I did like the book said call the 1800 number I called it and got told to go to the website to file for my adapter piece, then just for the heck of it I hooked this headset to my brothers xbox to see what the sound quality was like on there surprise surprise I need another adapter since both systems are HDMI linked and not hooked up with the original cables this piece is needed and in the book it says after you call it's free and 2 days shipping, issue is it's 2 day shipping from when they get your ticket so if they don't get it for several days you don't get to have optimal game sound till then. All in all if you hook your systems up with HDMI be ready to not use your headset for awhile unless you have the original cables ready like I did for my PS3 but also be ready to go down in visual quality for better sound. I will again revise once I receive the items needed to let future buyers know how long it will take.

Ok so as I said I would revise if I received the adapters and I have so my review on this is WOW !!! I never received a message back from the company they just sent the adapters, not a bad thing at all but it does show they are working on customer service just make sure you file the claim ticket at the right place on the website. The sound quality is AMAZING !!! it takes some getting used to if your like me and never had surround sound headsets before. you have to do some adjusting to the sounds and from what I can tell mine are backwards where it says chat it's actually the game and vice versa but it's not a big deal since I know that's the issue I just adjust from knowing that. if you have any issues hooking up your headset don't get frustrated go here( )they have instructional videos for all electronics, plus they will tell you where to go to file your tickets for the adapters I would really recommend these if your really looking for a quality item and to block out sound.

Honest reviews on Afterglow Universal Wired Headset - Green

I am not normally used to wearing headphones, but when my gamer son recommended I try his new Afterglow Universal Wired Headset Blue, I was sold. Not only do they look totally cool with the glowing blue light (especially awesome in the dark), but they feel fantastic, almost too comfortable to take off. "I will never wear annoying ear buds again," claims my son and now I understand why. Plus the sound quality is terrific. My hearing's not great so with Afterglow on I go high on volume and low on disturbing the family. Everybody's happy. Finish off with the fact that these are so very affordable compared to a lot of other headsets on the market that I'm inclined to think we should all have our own!

I know a lot of players are looking beyond DiRT Showdown and not really interested in it as it moves further away from the days of Colin McRae and more X-Games. This game isn't a rally game though, instead it is more like Destruction Derby and while it has the DiRT name it is a spin off for the franchise and not a true sequel to DiRT3.

Positives

Graphically it looks like DiRT 3 and even shares some of the same courses. So the game runs smoothly and you'll likely know some of the tracks already

Multiplayer is where most fun can be had although the rounds feel pretty short at times.

The addition of Racenet adds an extra level of interaction with the game and is a welcome addition.

Negatives

The game uses a rubber banding system so you can never get too far ahead which is find in normal racing games but when the game involves crashing into your opponent like this it can result in some race loses that feel "cheap" as they catch you on the last lap and spin you out.

The connection has some hiccups and you'll fail to connect to Racenet or will drop from a multiplayer session

The distribution in North America was 2 weeks after Europe. This meant European players played and moved on which can sometimes leave the Multiplayer rooms a little bit empty at certain times of the day.

They made some achievements only possible if people on your friends list buy the game too, so if you are an achievement hunter be sure to buy two copies, one for you and one for a friend.

Let me start off by saying I am a HUGE fan of the DiRT series, and also, an achievement hunter. I have 1000/1000 in the first and second DiRT, and the full 1250 in DiRT 3. I like achievements, and I enjoyed playing the games. In short, DiRT Show Down just sucks. But rather than be a negative nancy, I'll list the positives first -

-Great graphics

-Great refined graphics and game play. It's a well polished series that works well.

The down sides

-Rubber band racing. If you don't know what this is, it's when the CPU adjusts its speed according to you. Say for example in a race, a "beginner" lap time would be 1:30, "intermediate" would be 1:15, and "expert" would be 1:00. If you have the difficulty set on beginner, you can run 1:00 lap times and the CPU will still be right on your tail. Why is this just a HUGE downside? Well, it's annoying. Two, here's a way you always, always win. Just sand bag the race until the last lap, then just use the boost on the last lap in the last couple of corners and pass everybody and win the race. Seriously? Why would you try to achieve the best lap times if the CPU will be right on your tail anyways?

-The game was made for kids with ADD. Seriously. I'm surprised I've never had a seizure yet from the explosions in the game. This game would make the movie series "The Expendables" blush. There's fireworks, exhaust flames, and random stuff exploding... ALL the time. I haven't driven more than 15 seconds without seeing some kind of flames or explosions. Cute for about the first two minutes, then just extremely irritating.

-No in dash camera view. Seriously?

85% of the maps are from Dirt 3. Again...seriously? can't even create new ones? How lazy have they gotten?

-They spelled "synchronizing" wrong in the loading menu when you play multi-player. I noticed this the very first time. How in the heck did this go unseen? Well, I'm really not that surprised.

-No option for manual transmission. Again, seriously? I LOVED DiRT 3's multiplayer "hardcore" mode, where it was fixed interior view only, manual transmission, no driving aids, etc.

-No option for map view.

-Zero skill needed for races. Just hold down RT (Throttle) and go.

-Random freezes. My xbox won't lock up all the way, but it will freeze every 15 minutes or so for about 15 seconds, then suddenly will resume game play like normal like nothing happened. Never had this issue in the previous DiRT series.

-All cars now sound the same. There was very distinct differences between the Subaru's, Mitsubishi's, etc. Not anymore. All bland. All sound the same. And, of course, all shoot ginormous flames. There's one car that shoots these ungodly bright white flames every time it shifts. Extremely irritating...kind of like the rest of the game.

If you think I'm too hard on this game, I challenge you to try to find a multiplayer game, then compare it to DiRT 2 or DiRT 3. There's more people playing the older games...what does that tell you?

This is NOT rally racing and it's nothing like the previous Dirt games. That being said, it's not a bad thing! There is awesome variety to this game. Most of the game involves balls-out, no holds barred full contact automotive competition. No, there is no simple Destruction Derby here. There is more to it than that. There is circuit track racing where you try to win at all costs, using whatever tactics you can muster. There is "8 ball" a variation of figure eight racing where the track might have several intersections to cross paths with other racers. There are demo derby type games, one where you must simply survive the onslaught of other cars all trying to take you out. The longer you survive, the better your ranking. There is also demo derby types that involve scoring points depending on how hard and where you hit your opponents. Another one that involves a "sumo" type platform where you can only score points while demo'ing on the platform. Another competition is "eliminator" where every 15 seconds, the last place car on the track gets eliminated from the race. Very challenging in that it requires you to stay out of last place for as long as possible and the eliminated cars simply stall out on the track, creating an additional obstacle and challenge. Towards the end of the race, you have to dodge 5 or 6 busted cars parked on the track. Then it takes a different tact by throwing in some gymkhana style competitions that require more precision and finesse (and a steeper learning curve). You can also try a "joy ride" mode where you can simply drive around an area filled with jumps and other obstacles while scoring and performing certain tricks to gain access to additional areas. While this is not a sequel to Dirt 3, it is a great new game and getting it here on Amazon saved me more than half the cost of buying it anywhere else. After playing this game for one evening, I am very happy with my purchase. If your a rally purist, maybe you won't like this. But I am an all-around racing game fan and this is a great one.

Honest reviews on DiRT Showdown - Xbox 360

Bought this about the time I was getting past Dirt 3, and into Forza 4. Held my interest for about a day. Not as good as Dirt 2 or 3, lots of smash-'em-up rallycross and demo derbies. Like Burnout on an enclosed track. Could have been an add-on to any rally game. Typical of Codemasters' M.O.: "According to Codemasters CEO Rod Cousens, future games could be sold incomplete at retail, with mandatory downloadable content required to get the remainder of your newly purchased title.". That was 2010, and this was released years later--you do the math. A shame. One of racing games' brightest stars dimmed by crass commercialism and greed. Everything before this: GRID, Dirt 1, 2, 3, F1 2010 and 2011: all brilliant. But Dirt 3 really started to show signs of this new "incomplete" business. Good luck to you Codies, I'll have no truck with you or your wares now.

This is a great simulation game based during WWII in the pacific as noted by another review, you play the US Navy and the Japan Navy. The graphics of the game is quite good and is an improvement from Air Conflicts: Secret Wars PlayStation 3. If you've played "Legends of War: Patton" this might be a little similar due to the campaign having some similarities; for example, you can manage your pilots, change different weapons on planes and have camouflage on the planes. The length of the campaign seemed a little long, but I think it depends on which decisions you choose. All of the battles take place at historic moments in WWII from Iwo Jima, Pearl Harbor, ocean battles, etc. As for the multiplayer there is hardly anyone online right now, but hopefully since this was just released in US there will be more players and this will be a great game. Overall this is a great game and is a great game for less than $20.

My first thought was, "how can I say no to a $19.99 PS3 title?" Got it and it's well worth the 20 bucks. It's mainly based around the events of Pearl Harbor during WWII and you can play as either the Americans defending or the Japanese attacking. I like that the game is mainly aerial sim but also allow you to use the guns on the carrier ships. Graphics are decent and it was pretty fun to play. $20 well spent if you ask me.

This game is a solid flight sim game. The graphics are good and it's definitely addicting. The historical content is accurate and the storyline is interesting. Good value overall.

This game could have been so good . The graphic are good the concept is great the only thing that it lacks are the controls. The planes are to hard to handle in simulation flight and the arcade mode takes you out of feeling like you are flying the plane. you should be able to customize the control just once can developer make a airplane game right?

I bought this headset to replace the cheap piece of crap headset that the 360 comes with. My microphone worked but I couldn't hear anything on my old one. I opened the earpice to find one of the wires loose. I tried to solder it back on, but due to the product's low quality, it just fell apart.

I researched many headsets only to be dissapointed. A truly outstanding headset for xbox live has yet to be produced. They all suck in one way or another; some more so than others. I considered the wireless headset despite reviews that feedback on the device was unbearable. A friend of mine got one and I witnessed first hand it's true crapiness.

I then decided to check out Plantronics headsets. I had worked at a call center about a year ago in which we used Plantronics headsets and found them to be great products overall. This model (Gamecom X30) is the best they have out right now, despite the snazzy looking Halo edition headsets they also have out.

Plantronics Gamecom X30:

PROS:

-Great speaker, voices come in LOUD and clear.

-Comfortable, easy to wear on long gaming sessions.

-Sleek design.

-Sturdy build.

-Don't let the "under ear" design turn you off. Once you get used to putting it on, you'll find that this design not only stays well on your ear, but is also great for using with eyewear and headphones.

CONS:

-The mouthpiece picks up air currents (ceiling fan, air conditioning) WAY too much. It lacks the foam covering on the tip, but if you still have the original headset, just remove it from there and put it on this one. It fits well and fixes this problem.

-Despite picking up the wind, the mouthpiece does a mediocre job at picking up your voice! You can ask "can u guys hear me ok?" all day long but the only way to test how you sound is to record a voice message, and then play it back for yourself. You have to really speak up to be heard at a normal tone. There is no silent speaking on this headset, that isn't to say that you have to yell, just project and enunciate.

-The biggest setback on this headset is that the mute/volume controls aren't attatched to the controler like on the original headset. They're on the cable about 16 inches above the input. Make sure to set your volume BEFORE a match!

Overall this is a good headset. It's not outstanding and I kept from giving it 5 stars because of the location of the volume controls. Despite the setbacks, this is still the best headset available, and at a couple of bucks cheaper than the original, it's a definite bargain.

I have to wear headphones whenever I play my Xbox, so I need a communicator headset that fits under the headphones without blocking outside sounds. I tried various cell phone headsets, but they either don't fit right or don't work well with an Xbox.

This headset fits perfectly for me. Some reviewers have said it sits loosely in the ear, and that's true. Without my headphones, I also get the feeling that it will fall out, but it never does. Of course, with headphones it's secure on my head. Another nice feature is that it doesn't block outside sounds, so the audio from my headphones is not muffled. And most importantly, it's comfortable. I can wear it for hours without problems.

Another nice feature is that this headset works with both Xbox and Xbox 360. For the original Xbox, you'll need the adapter that comes with Microsoft's headset.

For those of you who are concerned about the volume control being in the wrong place, Intec makes a headset adapter (ASIN: B000FUG5V8) for the Xbox 360 that works with any headset and provides volume/mute controls just like the Microsoft headset does.

The only problem is that the microphone is weak, and that's why I gave it four stars. To get others to hear you clearly, you need to bend the microphone arm around your face so that the microphone is a few millimeters from your mouth. The microphone is so close that if I pucker my lips, I can touch it. Without headphones to keep the headset in place, it probably moves too much. But for me, the headset is easy to position and works great.

Best Deals for Xbox 360 Under Ear Headset

OK, first thing: the headset that comes with the 360 sucks. You know it, I know it. I've been waiting for a decent replacement, and that's just what this new offering from Plantronics is: decent. It's MUCH better than the one that comes with the 360, but it's definately not perfect. First, the UNDER the ear design is odd and takes getting used to. But, the worst part is how they did volume control it's in the middle of the cable itself in a little box with a horrible clip: that's right, to mute or adjust volume, you must remove one of your hands from the controller then locate the tiny box on the wire and make your adjustment. Not conducive to quick battle time changes, I'll tell you!

But, still, overall I like this product, especially at the thirty dollar price point. If it was fifty dollars, I'd pass. I'm suspicious that the much more expensive headsets work even better, but reread the beginning of this sentence to know why I didn't get those ("much more expensive").

Honest reviews on Xbox 360 Under Ear Headset

This headset is a little funky and takes time getting used to. It's upside down feature is a little odd but over time is comfortable. It is the best 360 headset that is out to date. The quality of sound is great and it hooks up to your controller with the quick feature of mute at hand.

Don't bother with the microsoft headset, it doesn't cut it.

Find helpful customer reviews and review ratings for Xbox 360 Under Ear Headset

I MUCH prefer this headset over the stock headset that comes with the 360. however, I wish they would've kept the on-plug mute switch instead of putting it in-line where I have to stop and look at it to switch it off.

This is by far one of my daughter's favorite games for Nintendo DS. She is 8 years old.I purchased her this title along with "Barbie Island Princess" but "Fashion Designer" has been so much fun she has barely touched "Island Princess"!

I was very intrigued (given that my daughter is a big Barbie fan) so I begun to play "Fashion Designer" to see what was it all about. Inmediately got caught in the game dynamics and fun. Basically the player is sort of a fashion design director for a modeling agency. There are different "assignments" in which a contractor request specific things for different products. For example, "a boot designer request a model for its most recent line of winter boots. Contract involves making of a catalogue and a photo shoot so you need to select the appropriate location, wardrobe and accesories. First start selecting your model..." and so the fun begins!

The player gets the chance to select models (each one has different facial and racial features), and also select hairdos, clothing, accesories, makeup features (eyeshadows, lipstic, blush, eyelashes...).

You can also design your own clothes by selecting different pieces and cuts, fabrics, imprints... The player can also select photo shoot locations, and actually shoot photo portfolios for each model according to assignments. You can also you direct your own runway show, teaching the models how to walk, poise, turn, etc...

Of course, ocassionally the contractor is not happy with the result so it will request the player to review specific items (like wardrobe, makeup, hairdo, accesories...) but this only adds more fun to the game.

The game is GREAT. If you happen to be looking for great games for girls on Nintendo DS (as I desperately was when I purchased this title) I strongly encourage you to get "Imagine Fashion Designer". You will watch your little girl having hours and hours of endless fun with it.

My youngest daughter loves to draw and design clothes so I thought this would be a neat game to give her for her 10th birthday back in November. I had no idea what I was buying or what a huge hit it would be! The first day she spent hours playing it and begged us to let her take it to bed with her to play "just for a little while" until she fell asleep. We finally had to take it away from her! Weeks later and she's still playing with it and designing clothes. I have to admit I like it myself. The "buyer" lets you know what they want to purchase and you come up with the look everything from hair color and style, to make up and jewelry as well as clothing. Then it's off to the photo shoot to see if the buyer likes your creation. There are so many levels that we haven't made it through all of them yet! I don't know how well kids younger than 9 would do with this game but I can tell you that older kids love it as well. When my daughter took her DS with her to the babysitter's house, there were older tweens and teens hanging out for the day and they were all over it as well. They thought it was the coolest game they had ever played and were ready to fight over whose turn it was to play next!

Best Deals for Imagine: Fashion Designer

I was really excited about receiving this game for my birthday (13th) and was a little disappointed with the game. It is still quite fun, but probably not worth thirty dollars.

You are the head of an agency and are required to do certain tasks (some of which have clues that are difficult and hard to figure out, but every time you have to redo it, you lose everything. So if only one thing on the makeup was wrong, you have to fix it, AND redo the dressing, photo shoot, and 5 catwalks THAT TAKE FOREVER!) The free mode is more fun, as you are unlimited in terms of everything.

The workshops include hair (picking between few styles and colors), beauty (picking between few, premade makeup looks), dressing (putting clothes on the model), designing (picking between a few different cuts on a premade design. A bit dissappointed considering there is a TOUCH SCREEN!!!!), catwalk (a few mundane mini games that cause your model to perform well or not), and photography (the fun one, where you choose how the model looks, poses, where, what shade, etc. Then click, you have a photo). The photo shop is the best part of the game by far, while the rest is DEFINITELY aimed at a younger audience.

Overall, this game is iffy. It has it's good points, and would be good for a younger age if not for the frustrating clues (or lack of).

Also, I would like to report a problem. When I take out this game on my lite after playing and insert another game, it says that there is no game pak inserted. So every time, I have to put it back in, take it out, and reinsert the other game. Talk about frustrating! This happened with every Imagine game I've tried!

I am glad I have the game for certain parts, but also glad I didn't pay for it! Consider this carefully before buying. P.S. The graphics are not impressive! Try Animal Crossing Wild World for impressive! Love it!

Honest reviews on Imagine: Fashion Designer

My daughter and her friends all have a Nintendo DS. But there are very few games that are for girls. Sure, there are a few, but she often ends up just playing her brothers' games. She was so excited when she saw the TV ad for Imagine Fashion Designer, so I bought it for her back in November. She loved it. So she asked for the Animal Doctor game, and I bought it for Christmas. Another winner. I don't know all the ins and outs of the games, but I have watched her play and they have surprising depth. And most importantly, they are safe. Safe, fun. and made for HER not her brothers. Happy imagining :)

This game is a good introduction for young folks in designing fashion. I like the concept it has for "assignments" where you have to please a client in their requests for fashions.

The designer has to come up with make-up, clothes and sometimes accessories and hair styles to pass the assignment to move on to the next task.

I didn't find anything in this to be particularly suggestive or even suggest nudity or anything out of the ordinary in dealing with clothing or the dressing of models.

I recommend this game. Especially young folks will love it. I thought it was kind of fun and I'm an adult!

There is nothing "simple" about this controller, it has so many awesome features. It has about 5 different LED thumbstick colors, along with 5 different LED guide button colors, which can be changed independently. The colors are vibrant, and look even better in person. It also gives you the option to keep them off if you want to save battery life, however, I haven't really noticed a difference in battery life with them on or off. The quality is incredible, it doesnt feel like a cheap aftermarket controller-even though it might cost as much as oneit feels just like the standard controllers made by microsoft. The mods are great, I wasn't too familiar with them at first but after calling the geniusmods customer support, they were able to answer my questions and walk me through it.

Top quality, great customer support, amazing value, thanks geniusmods!

I usually don't buy two controllers, but when I do, it is usually for my little brother. That doesnt mean I dont get to use it. He really likes being able to change the colors to any combination desired. I have an older style LED thumbstick controller that you have to press and hold the thumbsticks for a long time for them to change colors. This one is nice because they change with one click. The 10 mode mods to the controller are a bonus. I dont know why, but modes 1 and 2 are locked and cannot be programmed. They work perfectly in COD. I just modify the programming in mode 10 for some of the handguns.

I got one of the black controllers w LED thumbsticks and loved it. Really didn't think I could like a controller any more than that one. Then I saw this online and had to have it. The chrome accents are insane. It's kinda crazy cause I just got the black one about a month ago but either way I had to have this one. I gotta say I do NOT regret it at all. The Leds look so cool at night and the chrome accents are out of this world. This is an oem shell so the overall feel is just perfect. As for the mods. Same as always. Best modding company I've ever used. I've gotten at least 5 controllers from them and have not been disappointed once. Not to mention the customer service. I feel like these guys are always there whenever I neev anything. Thanks Geniusmods!

I think my favorite thing of all is the customer service I was provided with throughout both of my purchases. These guys are amazing, I opted for 2-3 day shipping and my package arrived 2 days early. No one will be disappointed with these products.

I was pretty angry when I discovered that this thing is NOT the genuine article but rather a Chinese third-party device. However, my controller connects to it and stays connected without any problems.

Here's how to set it up:

1. Go to Device Manager

2. Select the "Unknown Device"

3. Choose to update the driver under the Driver tab

4. Choose the 'Browse for a driver' (not the exact words but close)

5. Tell it that you want to pick from the list of device drivers

6. Choose the "Microsoft Common Controller for Windows Class" option

7. Pick the Xbox 360 Wireless Receiver

8. Enjoy

This is how I set it up under Windows 7 x64. Other versions of Windows may differ. So far I haven't experienced any problems or issues. Both Devil May Cry 4 and Grand Theft Auto IV, along with all of my emulators work superbly with it.

However, I do plan on getting the real deal. I don't trust this thing to keep working very long.

As you can see from the other reviews, this device works very well for some, and not so well for others. Putting aside the interference problem with other 2.4ghz devices such as mice (2.4ghz wireless routers will NOT give you problems), I believe there is a single solution to almost everyone's problem, which I will outline below.

After installing the device & software, I couldn't get my black wireless xbox360 elite controller to sync with the receiver. The ring light on the controller would rotate while trying to connect to the receiver. The light on the receiver would blink attempting to locate the controller. After a few seconds, the ring on the controller would stop rotating, and start blinking. A connection could not be made.

After some research, I found the solution. The issue is with USB power. The receiver needs A LOT of it. If you have other devices on your USB, especially high powered USB keyboards or mice, the receiver might not work. Try removing all USB devices and rebooting your PC with only a PS/2 mouse and keyboard connected. The receiver and controller should sync up immediately, even before you finish booting into windows. This fixed my problem.

If this is your problem, there are two solutions. 1) a USB PCI interface card, or 2) an externally powered USB hub (NOT BUS POWERED). I believe the receiver needs a lot of power because its capable of syncing to four separate devices. The USB on most motherboards simply isn't strong enough. Hope this helps.

If you have already bought this item skip to `The work around' to get the device to work

My Story:

I purchased this item because my original Microsoft receiver stopped working after the manufacturer's warranty time of 90 days. The device simply was not working one morning. So I searched online for a replacement and thought I was getting the original Microsoft Xbox 360 receiver because it was advertised that way. (at that time this item was called a "Microsoft Gaming Receiver for Windows" but since has had to change the name because of my warnings and letters) Unfortunately the product did not work right off so I had to contact Microsoft gaming for support. Then after trial and error we discovered that Microsoft did not produce this rip off of their product.

Also Microsoft doesn't print the Words "Xbox 360" on the front of the real product, rather they print "Microsoft." On the back the words Microsoft there will be an 'R' in a circle and behind the words Xbox 360 will be a small 'TM.' This product came with a receiver and packaging that looks VERY similar to the real one but it is not. The genuine item is pictured by other buyers, but they are not what you will get. And that is also not what the advertiser is showing in their sell photo, as noted by the words "XBOX 360" printed on the advertiser's sales photo, so the seller is NOT advertising the item to be by Microsoft anymore. So please post a positive vote for my pictures in the item's gallery to have them posted first and more people don't buy this item with that expectation.)

So that's the bad news, but there is good news too........

The good news is, that this product does still work. I have now had mine for way longer than the original Microsoft version, and it still works with everyday usage. (Originally ordered in Feb. 2010 and it is now July 2010)

However the installation was not as simple as the real one. They send the receiver with a driver disk that doesn't work at all with common Operating Systems or OS.

The work around:

Is to use your common driver by Microsoft already installed on your Windows or Vista Disk Drivers area and install the driver manually. Unfortunately this also means you have to reinstall the driver each time you unplug it.

Go to:

Start Menu and open Control panel

Then open

'Hardware and Sound' from control panel for Windows users

for vista users

select 'Additional options'

then from the left hand side open 'Hardware and Sound'.

Then open Device Manager for windows or Vista

Then click on the "Unknown Driver"

Then click on search for additional options and manually install the driver yourself

Then select the 'Microsoft Common Controller for Windows class'

Then it will give a list of drivers for you...... pick the one from Feb of 2007 and install that one.

Then you are good to go and able to play the games you want using your Xbox360 controller.

I completely give this product a SOLID 3.

********

Update 6/17/13:

Originally I rated this item at 2. For a few reasons..... 1) I was lied to about the item being from Microsoft. 2) I couldn't get the item to work with the drive disk they sent with it and had to find my own work around.

However, I still have the item plugged in to my computer and use it almost daily without any other flaws. 3 and a half years later!! While the product was 'sold' to me under false pretenses, it 'does' what Microsoft couldn't, and worked/s longer than 4 months. Not to mention that Amazon is no longer allowing the item to be advertised as a Microsoft item, and it is now being sold as the knock off it truly is........So for that I upgraded the rating to a 3.

However, had I been sold the item as it is currently being advertised.... I would have rated it a solid 4 with the only flaw being that I had to find out how to make it work myself.

Honest reviews on Xbox 360 Wireless Gaming Receiver for Windows

First off, the receiver and controller/accessories connect very easily and work great. No issues with lag or bad connections.

The downfall here is that unless your game can specifically be setup to map controls to a gamepad/joystick, you're out of luck (kinda). Microsoft doesn't include any mapping software at all, which really doesn't make a lot of sense, since so few PC games would be naturally compatible with the remote.

Luckily, there is a great piece of software called Pinnacle game profiler. It allows you to specifically map each button to a movement/function in any game (customizable by game). You get a free 30 day trial ($20 after that), but it's worth the money. After spending about 15 minutes setting this up, it works great. I have tested it out on Half-Life 2, F.E.A.R. and Call of Duty 2 with no issues.

As of this writing, the best value for this device is yet to come. Xbox 360 owners will enjoy being able to reuse all types of Xbox 360 wireless controllers on their PC games, but there are two major hangups that will have to be corrected with time.

1) It has been reported this item does not work with Vista yet. I can't comment on this.

2) The "Games for Windows" brand is just getting off the ground. As this brand evolves, each game with this logo on the box will support this controller natively. There won't be any need for mapping software. That means, for old games... you'll have to find something to map the controller.

If you are interested in XNA, get this. XNA (nutshell) is MSFT's platform for future game development, and it includes tools hobbyists can use to make games at home and play them on Windows or their Xbox 360. That makes this item a must-have if you plan to join XNA Creators Club and deploy your games onto your Xbox 360.

Still, the potential of this is really yet to be realized. XNA is in its fledgling state, even though to this point it has to be considered a success. "Games for Windows" has just a couple of titles on the shelf as of this writing, but is intended to explode by the end of the year. It might be that if you're willing to pony up for the Xbox 360 Wireless Headset and Racing Wheel, you may get more value out of this and you can use those items on your PC.

When I compared buying a wired controller versus buying this (I already had two wireless controllers), this is obviously the better value. Just consider the facts above, and look at how things have changed since this writing, and decide for yourself.

MOST MASCULINE OF THE AIR SKYLANDERS..WHEN HE MOVES... HIS BUFF BODY LEANS FORWARD WITH HIS CHEST PUFFED OUT.. HE SCREAMS "I'M SEXY AND I KNOW IT" Not really.. but he does say "TODAY"S FORECAST...ME"! He confidently floats SLOWLY around (not flying..can't go over water) and manages to kill a Drow Goliath (giant green guy with shields while pressing and holding the circle on PS3) WHICH ELECTRYFIES THE CLOUD THAT HE FLOATS ON ENOUGH TO ACTUALLY GET RID OF ANY OPPONENTS NEXT TO HIM... WHILE "STANDING" STILL. If your thumbs get tired or like to be a little lazy about the individual fights..He is a great choice..speed isn't his strong suit. At first his lightning bolt that he commands down from the sky isn't very strong or easy to maneuver. Over time the lightning bolt becomes stronger, longer lasting and more controllable. I currently have him upgraded to a LEVEL 7. When it comes to the "choose your path" level you can either increase his electric cloud abilities or increase his "Lord of Lightning" abilities.

CONSOLE STATS:Starting and Maximum

MAX HEALTH: 290 (max 580)

SPEED: 43 (max 91)

ARMOR: 18 (max 48)

CRITICAL HIT: 30 (max 80)

ELEMENTAL POWER: 25 (max 100)

I chose to increase the "Lord of Lightning" abilities for more of a long range target approach. I'm not sure that was the best way to go after seeing just how powerful his "Defensive Clouds" make him. Be sure to shoot a bolt at one of the sheep at the ruins..pretty funny..

In my opinion.. I currently have all of the Air figures..they are VERY STRONG as a group! I have all of the characters released except Wham-Shell. Initially the air figure I least liked was whirlwind, but after needing her to keep other players from dying before.. I have really grown to like her. She can also shoot up and over gates or platforms, unlike most of the other players. I LOVE ALL of the AIR characters and would have a hard time picking a favorite. Sonic has saved me in one of the Troll worlds where you have to move giant boulders around.. to get a hat and some treasure I believe..when it was stuck and couldn't get anyone else to get it unstuck..her sonic scream managed to work. Her babies make great spider bait (that sounds awful)..you throw the eggs in front and when they attack her babies.. It leaves you free to attack them while they are busy. Warnado looks like more of an up close attack strategy..and if the cloud path is chosen that would be Lightning Rods too (which looks like it may be his stronger path). Warnado can't fly in a traditional sense..more of a tornado/spinning "flight", but he can manage to eventually go over water which is helpful in a lot of areas..Currently he is around a 3 in experience..Warnado is a lot of fun and seems VERY powerful right out of the package which is surprising because according to his stats within the game his "Critical Hit" is his weakness. A strong critical hit hat takes care of that.. and it's pretty funny to see the choompies and other opposing forces sucked up into the spinning tornados. Lightning Rod can't fly or go over water.. The other two can.. So..there it is..you'll have to decide what strengths you need based on your collection and budget at $9.99 each retail.

Honest reviews on Skylanders Spyro's Adventure Lightning Rod

My oldest son, now 12, loved playing the very first PS2 game where Spyro was introduced, so it was little wonder his younger brother, now 7, showed an interest in Skylanders. He loves collecting all his favorite characters to see what they are capable of in the game; he lines them up in a row on his window ledge so he can admire all their unique characteristics. For someone who struggles to pay attention for long periods of time, this has been a wonderful way to stimulate his creativity and his problem-solving abilities.

AmazonBasics High-Speed HDMI Cable with Ethernet - Flat Cable With Swivel Connectors

Great idea for an HDMI cable, unfortunately it does NOT produce good results. Bought 4 of these for my new Denon surround system and liked the idea of the 90 degree plus the angle curve on these cables. Unfortunately they lose signal constantly and I had to replace two of them already. For instance, had one going to my PS3 and it would constantly drop the signal, LCD would black out and refresh till it picked up the signal from the Denon and showed it on the screen again. Same thing happened to my Blu-Ray Player. I simply pulled those cables and replaced them with the higher end ones I had pulled out previously and no problems since.

Had already bought a Philips HDMI Swivel Cable but this FLAT AmazonBasics is 100 times better than the Philips one. Great construction. Till now, ZERO problems...

Best Deals for AmazonBasics High-Speed HDMI Cable with Ethernet - Flat Cable

Analog cables are like a garden hose, the bigger they are, the more signal can get through. Digital cables, unless physically broken, or compromised in some way have no signal loss if the o or the i get through signal received. It is the signal converter that turns it back into high quality audio or video.

Monster and the others selling $100+ cables, spend vast amounts of money on advertising to massage the ignorant and arrogant out of their money.

This Amazon Basics High Speed HDMI Cable articulates two directions (very cool). The cable is clean looking, well put together and does not look cheap. At this price a guy can buy several, just to have around.

Super cable! Love the fact that it's flat and that the actual connector swivels to make room. Don't know if the internet component works because I wasn't aware that you needed a compatible device for it's proper use. Solidly built. Worth every cent.

I liked the concept of the cables but had problems with the implementation. I was really pleased with the idea, but had problems a few weeks after I started using them with "digital artifacts" on some channels from my HD TV box. Since they were brand new cables and we had been having off and on problems with the HD box, I didn't even suspect the cables. But after going around with the cable company for a bit and setting up a service call, I decided to change out cables just to be sure. I tried a few other cables and all the others worked fine, but every time I switched back to the AmazonBasics cable I had the artifacts show up. I ended up switching back to a regular cable. I purchased these so they would tuck back nicely behind my TV and not stick out visibly from the side (which they did) but I figured if they were going to give me problems it wasn't worth it. So I returned them. I *may* have simply had a bad cable, but I didn't want to go through the hassle since I had some working cables available.

PlayStation 3 160GB Uncharted: Drake's Fortune Bundle Reviews

PlayStation 3 160GB Uncharted: Drake's Fortune Bundle
Customer Ratings: 4.5 stars

Necessary disclosure: I do not own this model but do I own the 60GB model, recently upgraded to 320GB. I am also very familiar with the latest 80GB model (which is basically this one with a larger disk) because one of my neighbors has one and I am the neighborhood's unofficial and unpaid 'computer' consultant :). I did some research in anticipation of us purchasing a second unit because I promised the kids "their own" if their grades were going to meet a certain standard.

As compared to the 60GB model (see this model's pluses and minuses and what all PS3s have in common):

______________________________________________

+ Less expensive (I paid $599 for my 60GB PS3)

+ 266% more storage

+ Improved power efficiency

+ Dual shock controller (rumble)

+ Bundled Drake's Fortune and Pain voucher for a PSN download

+ Amazon Blu-ray movies promotion (buy 4 movies from list and get $100 off through end of 2008)

= Wireless Wi-Fi or wired Ethernet network connections

= Bluetooth for controllers, keyboards, earpieces, etc.

= Controllers charged via USB wires

= Free, unlimited access to the PSN network, including online play

= Full PSOne compatibility

= Blu-ray player

= DVD player

= CD player

= HDMI, component video (component wire included but no HDMI cable)

= Surround sound

= Internet browser

= Allows for installation of third-party operating systems such as Linux

= Disk is easily upgradeable without voiding warranty

= Quiet operation

No memory card interfaces

2 USB ports vs. 4 USB ports on the 60GB

No PS2 compatibility

______________________________________________

STORAGE and STORAGE UPGRADE:

----------------------------

This model comes with an 160GB drive. This is nice because, based on my own experience, 160GB should be sufficient for a few years of use for as long as you don't plan to purchase lots of movies from the PSN store or download to many full games if you are thiking about storing movies on your PS3 disk, consider upgrading to larger storage. However, unless you believe that Uncharted + Pain are worth the extra $100, you may be slightly better off buying the 80GB model for $100 less and then upgrading.

To give you an idea of the amount of storage you may need on your PS3, I recently checked the status of my 320GB disk and I found that I had 198GB free. That means that, one year after purchasing my (then) 60GB box I was using 122GB already. The space is taken by family pictures, a little music, lots of demos, many 'disk' games that dump gigabytes of data to the disk to improve performance, many videos the kids are making with the 'Eye' camera, game saves. I suspect that 'Home', when it becomes available, may require a few more GB's for its own use so 320GB may be what you need if you don't want to constantly worry about deleting old stuff before you run out of space.

If you are on the upgrade path, $80 would buy you a 320GB drive. I used the Western Digital WD3200BEVT 320 GB Scorpio Sata 5400 Rpm 8MB 2.5 inch myself but that was back in June/July and I paid about $150 then; you could get much larger drives for less now. 500GB drives are available for less than $100 and you should try to get one of those if you are planning to store lots of videos. One that I tested would be the Western Digital 500GB Scorpio Blue SATAII 5400RPM 2.5IN 8MB Bulk/OEM Hard Drive WD5000BEVT which replaced my laptop's 60GB little drive and I helped a friend upgrade his own PS3 with. The nice thing about upgrading your disk is that you are also going to be left with a perfectly good 80GB or $160GB drive which you can place into a cheap enclosure, and the StarTech AT2510U2 InfoSafe 2.5-Inch USB/SATA Hard Drive Enclosure worked for me. I am using the free leftover drive as a backup device for family photos.

Upgrading the disk is (relatively) easy and you can find a lot of advice on the Net. Search for "PlayStation 3 Hard Drive Upgrade (HOWTO)" for videos that should help you decide if you are comfortable with upgrading. If upgrading is the first thing you do (before installing games or uploading personal files), everything becomes very easy because you need not worry about backups or restores. I upgraded my box in a couple of hours WITH the backup/restore steps.

MEMORY CARD INTERFACES:

-----------------------

The lack of memory card interfaces is annoying but you can get around it. Copy your stuff to a USB drive or flash drive and... problem solved. You can then upload your things through the USB. It's somewhat inconvenient but it's no big deal.

USB PORTS:

----------

My old 60GB model has 4 USB ports and I am using all of them. One for the PS3 Eye (camera), a second has a wireless keyboard dongle, the third is where the racing wheel plugs in and the last one I use to charge controllers. Of course, you can and you WILL be able to live with 2 slots but it is likely that you will be doing some plugging/unplugging if you begin adding peripherals. One way around it is to get a USB port multiplexer. Another solution is seek Bluetooth peripherals (wireless) if you can find them. Bluetooth keyboards, for example, are available.

PS2 COMPATIBILITY:

------------------

This model does not support PS2 software. Since the original PS2-compatible PS3's are hard to get, this has to be accepted as reality. I assume that Sony, after polling existing and future PS3 users, found that most users don't need PS2 compatibility. Soon after we upgraded to a PS3 my kids were playing Kingdom Hearts and Destroy All Humans but I haven't seen them doing so in quite a while. It is nice to have PS2 compatibility but its lacking would not stop me from buying a PS3.

PSOne GAMES:

------------

The PS3 has full PSOne compatilibity. Lots of them are available for download at the PSN store. They are quite inexpensive and some of them are still fun to play.

SUMMARY:

--------

If you like Drake's and you do not consider upgrading, buy THIS model. In fact, you should buy this model regardless of Drake's because you are likely to be unhappy with an unupgraded 80GB model like I mentioned above, I am already using over 120GB and this is BEFORE Home.

If you are planning to upgrade, you're better off with an 80GB model selling for $100 less because you can use the $100 you save to buy yourself Drake's for about $40 and use the balance to help pay for your disk upgrade.

Get yourself a USB port multiplexer if you need more than 2 ports

Transfer your photos to flash drives to get around the missing memory card interfaces

Or or, even better, get the Playstation 3 Media Hub+ for 2 extra USB ports AND a card reader

Keep your PS2 if you have one and still wish to play PS2 games in the future.

Enjoy your new PS3.

_____________________

Note: I am not taking off one star for the lack of PS2 compatibility. I understand that Sony must compete on price and make a profit and times are tough. However, I simply can't see why Sony cut the number of USB ports from 4 down to 2 and this explains why this unit gets 4 stars instead of 5. This is a relatively significant inconvenience and I can't see how it would cost Sony more than a dollar or 2 if it provided 4 ports instead of 2.

When I was looking for Blu Ray DVD players, the PlayStation came out on top of every review I read. So I started looking at games available for the system and saw the review for the Uncharted game over on Gamespot. Uncharted looked like the best game for me, and considering the other bundles available, this seemed like a good deal, with a larger hard drive, (we all need more space) Uncharted, and PAIN all included.

First of all the SIXAXIS controller is fantastic. Easy to hold, easy to use, bluetooth wireless, and it has motion sensing capabilities like the Wii. In Uncharted you have to use that feature to toss grenades and balance as you cross some objects.

Second, the DVD player is wonderful. Since the wireless features are bluetooth there is another remote available to play DVDs. But, I don't think you need it. You can use the game controller easy enough. Anyone familiar with the interface on a PC or MAC DVD player will instantly get it.

The menu system on the PlayStation has been criticized in some reviews, but I don't get that at all. It is very easy, and the same interface is used on their Bravia TVs. I wish more electronics had menus like this. I have used FrontRow on the Macs, and I like this better.

The wireless feature configured on the first try with my network, which has two layers of security. I have more trouble getting some of my Macs on my network, than the PlayStation.

Finally, Uncharted is nothing short of amazing. Imagine you are part of an Indy Jones or National Treasure movie. That is the experience. Period. The music track gives clues to when you are heading in the right direction, and Nate Drake has awesome moves once you get used to the controller.

PAIN is ok, more funny than a real challenge. I suppose you could take it seriously, but it is best to just fling the character at everything in site and then use the controls to bounce and hit as much as possible. The physics is very realistic, and there is no blood. Great game when you just relieve some stress by smashing something.

If you are looking for a BluRay player or a game system, this is really the best value. I compared to the Xbox and with that system you have to keep buying extras to build up to the capabilities of this single purchase. In other words, don't just focus on the lowest price, consider the total value. For example, many of the games you can download from the PlayStation store are about $10, and the PlayStation network is free. Not to mention all the free demo games, movie trailers, movie and tv show downloads that are free or just a few bucks.

I could probably find enough free demos to play all year, but I made the mistake of visiting the Prince of Persia web site and now I can't wait to get my hands on it.

Uncharted alone would make this a deal, but add 160GB hard drive, and a BluRay player--don't think, do. Get this system.

I have never really been a PlayStation fan since purchasing the very first PlayStation nearly 10 years ago. As a result most of my console gaming was on Nintendo's and Microsoft's consoles. However, between my XBOX Pro and Elite consoles, I have had to send them back them to Microsoft seven times in less than two years. Even the "more reliable" Elite console had to be returned twice last year. I decided that I spent too much money for that kind of unreliability so I reluctantly contemplated a PS3 purchase. Now before all of you Microsoft fan boys start calling this a fan boy review, think again; I call them as I see them and I never really understood why someone just can't have two or all three of the gaming systems anyway. Don't get me wrong, I really enjoy my XBOX 360 console, have around 25 XBOX 360 games, and still play it regularly. However when I spend nearly a grand on two Microsoft consoles, I expect them to last longer than a few months. I don't know about you, but I work hard for my money, paying for all my things out of my own pocket and I refuse to spend another dime on Microsoft's money pit of faulty consoles.

The main reason I purchased a PS3 was because I was in the market for a Blu-Ray player. However during extensive research I discovered that the Blu-Ray player on the PS3 is one of the best on the market, and while I'm not a big fan of multipurpose gaming consoles, I decided on the PS3 opposed to a standalone due to my countless issues with the XBOX 360. I may end up getting a standalone Blu-Ray player eventually, but for now the PS3 will suffice. The Blu-Ray player does not disappoint; however since this is my first experience with a Blu-Ray player, I don't have anything to compare it to other than DVD players. That said I never experienced any issue with the playback on the PS3. The first movie I purchased was The Dark Knight and comparing the video quality to my DVD player I do see a big difference. While DVD's certainly look good, the Blu-Ray does in fact show a noticeable difference. Honestly I don't notice much difference in audio, but this could be because I have a very old A/V receiver. The Blu-Ray player on the PS3 also up converts regular DVD's (with an HDMI cable). To me, the up-converting is ok, but I prefer using my standalone for watching regular DVD's.

One huge advantage the PS3 has over the 360 is that Sony doesn't nickel and dime you on accessories like Microsoft does. An example of this is that the PS3 has built in wireless internet capability instead of making you spend a hundred bucks on an "adapter". Additionally, all A/V connections in the back of the console are spaced out so you can use multiple A/V outputs (i.e. using HDMI video with optical sound) without having to spend an additional fifty bucks on yet ANOTHER adapter. Also, the PS3 controller can be charged with the included USB cable and you are not forced to purchase a battery pack and a separate charger. Finally, all memberships to the Sony PlayStation network (the equivalent to XBOX Live) are absolutely free. Meaning it's free to play games online without having to pay ANOTHER fifty/year for a "Gold membership"; granted while it is not that much, free is always better. Keep in mind that you still have to pay for some downloads, but you aren't charged just to be member.

One small complaint I had right off the bat is that unlike the 360 I am unable to output optical sound to my receiver and HDMI sound to my television simultaneously. I found the ability to do this on the 360 to be quite convenient since when everyone is in the bed I can play games with the receiver volume turned all the way down and just use the sound on the TV. However with the PS3 you can only choose one or the other at a given time. So before I start playing games, I have to choose in the Audio Settings screen if I want to use HDMI sound through the TV or optical sound through my receiver every time. My receiver does not have HDMI capability so I do not know if this limitation applies if both the TV and Receiver have HDMI capability.

This PS3 package comes bundled with Uncharted: Drake's Fortune which is a very good game to start off with. Once you are done with this game you can easily download demos from the PlayStation network to check out other titles you are curious about.

Keep in mind that to cut costs, Sony decided to do away with backwards compatibility with PS2 games. Neither of the current versions of the PS3 can play PS2 games. Because I have no PS2 games, this is not a concern for me and since I'm one to keep my old consoles, backwards compatibility has NEVER been a concern for me. However, if you are one that wishes to play PS2 games, then I suggest getting one of the older model PS3's or just purchase a PS2 separately since they are inexpensive now.

So far the PS3 seems like a good console. Available titles are limited for me since I have most of the good cross platform games on the 360 already. Drake's Fortune is a good start, but I am hoping for more worthy PS3 titles in the near future. Reliability wise, I have experienced a couple of game freezes, but restarting the system seemed to clear the problem. Only time will tell it it's more reliable than the 360. I could be wrong, but I highly doubt I will go through 3 4 per year as I have with the 360.

Honest reviews on PlayStation 3 160GB Uncharted: Drake's Fortune Bundle

This is not my first console ever. I switched from Xbox classic and 360 and this was the best decision I've ever made. Free online gaming, much smoother running, hundreds of extra features and utilities, and now also the Playstation Home coming up makes Playstation3 absolutely unmatched by any of the others. This is the ultimate gaming and home entertainment system I'll be sure to stick to for many, many years to come. I highly recommend it to everyone in the whole world. You will know what I'm talking about when you get it. I also want to thank the lousy and completely useless XBox360 technical support who has opened my eyes and made me switch to Playstation3. I hope this inspires lots of other gamers who decided to settle for an OK system to make the same switch I did and treat themselves with the right stuff.

The PS3 was first released in November 2006, just one year after its competition, the XBOX 360. What can be said for the console since its release back on that amazing day in 2006? Well one thing is that it continues to evolve even to this day thanks to new releases with bigger hard drives and numerous software patches to be downloaded for free through the Playstation network (PSN). Sony are a company that listen to their fans and although upon first release the creators think they know what's best, they are more than willing to develop the interface and the experience through feedback from gamers.

The XBOX 360 was released 1 year earlier than the PS3 because Microsoft wanted to get the jump on Sony by releasing their console for Christmas 2005 which presented absolutely no gaming competition. Good move from a business stand point, but this only hindered the XBOX experience with the numerous hardware faults including the dreaded red ring of death. Fans were angry and frustrated and certainly a lot of them felt robbed by Microsoft's shoddy hardware blunders. The PS3 was the saving grace as although we had to wait an additional year for it to be released, the wait was worth it.

The look of the PS3 is something I want to talk about first. The external appearance is something we all notice first and it's definitely something that made me buy it. Next to hardware, the look of a console on the outside and in the interface is definitely something quite important I take into consideration when deciding a purchase. The GUI (Graphical User Interface) is again something that looks very pretty and of course presents an easy to navigate interface. The PS3 GUI is known as the XrossMediaBar or the XMB. It is split into 9 categories. Users, Settings, Photo, Music, Video, Game, PSN, Network and Friends all make up an easy to find system when you're looking to perform a particular task within the operating system.

I don't know much about hardware and the technical stuff, but they've all been touched upon in other reviews so I'm going to just talk about the little add ons that really make it a worthwhile experience to buy this console. The PSN is one of its best selling points for the PS3 as although the 7th generation of gaming has taken a more positive leap to internet gaming, the fact that joining the PSN and being able to play your friends online is free wins it many fans. The wireless controllers are again another fantastic addition. This may be considered reaching for complements but it's the small things that have the biggest impact. Bluetooth and built in wireless internet capability are just immense considering if you want stuff like this, you have to buy the extras for the XBOX 360 to allow for such freedom

My favourite thing to do with the console is to be able to plug in my external hard drive and watch any film I have stored on my PS3. It seems to have the ability to play any video format on the PS3 and although that may not be the case, I'm happy and as a gamer, that's all that matters. Thanks to recent updates, Sony has now introduced the very welcome Trophy system which is a way of matching Microsoft's achievement system. Some would say it's better, others would say it doesn't matter, but to me it makes the gaming experience that bit more worth it.

The whole point of the PS3 is the gaming experience and that is the right approach to take which has worked wonders for Sony. No widespread hardware problems and no noise problems which were two of my main complaints about the PS3. It wasn't a rushed console and you can tell that from the start. It's an immense experience and just over two years on it has an impressive games catalogue that is guaranteed to get better and better. There's no doubting that even though it is just two years on, there's a PS4 at least at the discussion point of development and we probably won't see a finished article for about 4 or even 5 years.

That being said, I hope Sony learn a lot from this console and understand where they went wrong and what they did right. At this point, with all the software updates and other such changes, the PS3 is near enough the perfect console. One thing that does bug me a little is the constant new releases with larger hard drives and better add ons such as PS2 backwards compatibility. When we do see a PS4 we should get a large hard drive to begin with but if upgrades of hard drive space are made available, then we should be given an easy way to upgrade the hard drive without having to be a techno type of guy and having to take apart the console.

Just buy it, you won't regret it, I promise.

After reading several reviews warning about buying any kind of xbox 360 slim hard drives from anyone but microsoft, I was a little concerned about getting this, but this hard drive didn't have any negative comments that concerned me, so I decided to chance it. (I don't have any regular xbox games, so I don't know about not being able to play them with this.) I'm glad I did. I received it fairly quickly and after looking up online how to install it (it was a lot easier than I expected it to be; with it lying flat, there's a little hidden door on the right side of the console for the hard drive; if it's standing up, the door would be on the top or the bottom.) I put it in, and started up my xbox 360 and it worked great. I've transferred saved games, profiles, and dlc onto it with no problems, and I've downloaded new updates and dlc onto it since then as well. So far, it's worked perfectly for me. I was even sent information about the website for the seller I got this from (jacobsparts), and they have some of the same products, for less. I will definitely use this seller again if I need anything they sell. Overall, I'm very satisfied with this hard drive.

The absolute best upgrade for the 4GB Xbox 360 slim! For a whole lot less than Microsoft's 250Gb hard drive and does exactly the same thing! It even says Microsoft when you are looking at your memory. Yeah you can't play the old xbox games, but you can go on ebay and get an old xbox for 20 bucks .

For an average XBOX 360 user like myself, this product works perfect and saved me a ton of money. I haven't tried playing any original XBOX games, and don't play to, so I'm not concerned by other's claims that they won't work. Anyone looking to enjoy current XBOX 360 games with a huge hassle free hard drive should look no further.

I bought and put in my xbox, but it wouldn't read it. Was like it had no harddrive in it at all.

Returning.

But after I received the 3rd one, it was easy to install and worked right away. It's got plenty of space to store all my game data and updates or map packs or whatever else you want to shove on it. If you can find one that works, good luck and have fun!

I love this controller, the all white is such a great alternative to the regular grey and white. Looks awesome, but my rechargeable battery color doesn't quite match the control. Not a big problem since I have a silicone sleeve over it.

Just as good as any other controller. Only special thing it is white, which might not be so special, otherwise it's fine.

Honest reviews on Xbox 360 Special Edition White Wireless Controller

The controller is basically like the new black one but white and to me looks better! I only wish they had included the ability to switch the d-pad like the silver controller.

Item was as described, it's like any other controller but all white. However, the one I received had something in it, and while I was shaking it a small screw came out. I'm sure it was just to hold the motherboard or something down in there. It turned on and works perfectly, but I kept the screw incase something happens and I have to find out where it came from!
