I was hesitant to purchase this wheel after reading some of the reviews posted on this site. Due to their nonspecific nature, and referencing of arcade style racing games, I decided to give it a try.

First off, this wheel is small. The picture doesn't offer much scale. The wheel is about 7" in diameter. Although the wheel is constructed primarily out of plastic, it has a sturdy feel to it. Rubber grips are added on the top and the bottom for comfort. The gas pedals are also plastic, but again, are sturdy. The wheel's base can be placed on the lap, or on a table. Suction cups were added on the bottom to keep the wheel in place.

The wheel itself performs very well. It is very responsive, and has a genuine feel to it. The force feedback is weak, but it does work. The gas and break pedals work well too. They are extremely pressure sensitive. Personally, I put small sponges under the pedals for a little more resistance, but either way works.

I would recommend this wheel for anyone that is trying to save some money. It may not offer you a true driving experience like some of the other high end wheels, but it is still a huge upgrade over a controller.

This wheel may be good for some racing games but when I tried using it for Grid I found that it is way too frustrating, every now and then while im turning my car would suddenly go straight or turn in the opposite direction.

I have found this steering wheel to be quite dissapointing. The simulated motion does not work with Need For Speed on XBox 360. There is no play at all when making sharp turns...you move an inch and your car smashes against the gurad rail even on the widest of turns.

I like this game. It has some great graphics and realistic boat handling on what looks like real water. Good job on that! Some of the power boats looks great. Good job on that! You have to win races to unlock new levels and buy new boats. Good job on that! But.... the only way to win races is to launch weapons on other racers and they will launch them on you. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose. All in all this game is fun if you have plenty of time. It's worth a try.

I bought the game for my 9 year old grandson. He likes flight simulator, different race games, everything about cars, plains, space ships. I decided to try boat game and he loves it. Unfortunately I didn't play it. So, my opinion only rely on his. And as I see he doesn't want to get of computer.

I didn't know how to rate this, because I haven't been able to play it on my fast computer. There's a small chance it's on my end, but it's never happened before, so I thought I'd warn you.

After configuring my character screen, it hangs with "Access violation at address 000000000. read of address 00000000" error message. I have to Ctrl+Shift+Esc to get out of it. Contacted the software "support", never got back to me.

Another thing is, I don't think it will work with a gamepad, it's keyboard only. I cannot drive and accelerate with a keyboard, but some people can.

Without a doubt, Epic Mickey is a game that is going to polarize people. This is possible the hardest I've ever had to struggle to rate something. You can rate Epic Mickey anywhere between 3-5 stars and it never feels appropriate. It almost defies rating.

Disney Epic Mickey is a Wii exclusive developed by Junction Point Studio, headed by the legendary Warren Spector. The game was released November 30th and came in the mail for me far earlier than it should have. Disney and Junction Point intend to revitalize Mickey Mouse into a more relevant figure through video games, and reintroduce Oswald to the world. A monumental task to be sure, but in pursuit of that goal, Warren Spector has created a game unlike any other.

The game is simple and intuitive in its control. Mickey is equipped with a double jump, and spin attack, as well as the ability to use paint and thinner with his brush. It's very natural and is utilized quite well in the game itself. For two simple choices of painting and thinning, the game gets quite creative with level design, questing, exploration and boss battles.

One the biggest issue with this game is knowing how to approach it. This game will undoubtedly draw comparisons to the two Mario Galaxy games and I will say right now that those comparisons are, for the most part, going to be wrong because of the simple fact that the Mario Galaxy games are as linear as 3D platforming gets while Epic Mickey's maps are mostly nonlinear. There is nothing wrong with either approach, but it's important to know and understand the benefits and limitations of both to be able to appreciate what Epic Mickey has to offer.

The Super Mario Galaxy games used their linearity to craft obstacle courses with extremely well tuned challenges that are second to none. However the games gave up any sense of exploration or giving the world any coherency in order to do so. With Epic Mickey, it's an entirely different beast. Not only is it non linear, but it also has to resemble a functioning cartoon world. Because of this, the challenges you are expected to go through aren't and will never be as perfectly tuned as in the Galaxy games but that works fine with the game because it compensates with a sense of freedom, exploration and free roaming. Comparing the two based only on how fine tuned the platforming is would be akin to comparing Oblivion or Minecraft to Halo and saying those two are inferior because the archery in those games aren't as fun as shooting in Halo is. Epic Mickey stands with the best nonlinear 3D platformers and this is and this achievement of it is going to get lost in the Super Mario Galaxy comparisons.

While the game and its levels have a slow start for about an hour or so, the game manages to pick up pace and provide some creative, breath taking, atmospheric (A word you will see repeated many times in this review) nonlinear levels. The game's reimagining of known Disney locations provides an incredibly varied game world that is just a blast to explore for both Disney fans and nonfans alike thanks to being well executed both technical and artistically. While much of the magic will be lost on nonfans, the game's dark, colorful, creative and varied environments will still be engaging. The game is also one of the atmospheric and immersive platformers ever made. The mood and tone practically creeps off the stages and pulls you in. The game's frame rate does drop from time to time but this is a rare enough happening to keep from ruining the experience.

Speaking of engaging, Epic Mickey sports a fantastic narrative and story that runs the gamut of emotions from hilarious, to tragic, scary and very heartwarming. The game's narrative stands as one of the better video game stories and holds its own with the better Disney and Pixar films. The game gives Mickey and Oswald a startling amount of depth. And the game's many NCPs and quest givers are just a blast to talk to, just to hear what they want to say.

The game's music is simply award worthy. The score does what it needs to perfectly well, always serving to enhance to mood, the action and atmosphere of the game. It masterfully dances back and forth between ambient tracks, truly epic combat music, and strange, surreal twisted ones such as an awesome remix of "Its a Small World",

Unfortunately, the game is hit by some considerable flaws. The camera is the single biggest problem in the game. There is a good chance the camera will kill you more than anything else in the game. It can be auto focused on Mickey with the press of a button, but this option isn't always available. While there is certainly an impressive number of quests in the game, far too many of them are simple fetch quests.

Combat isn't this game's forte either. Mickey can befriend enemies with paint, or erase them with thinner. There are also animatronic enemies that require other methods to defeat. Unfortunately, all enemies feel a bit too bloated with hit points, requiring a bit too much paint or thinner to deal with them. At the same time, enemy variety is very dull. Combat could be improved by speeding it up and adding more enemies each with unique ways of taking them down. Boss battles are exempt from this, however. They are all fun, imaginative and have multiple ways of dealing with them. Unfortunately, the game could have used several more bosses to break up periods of exploration and questing.

When moving between game worlds, Mickey jumps through a projector, taking him to a 2D creation of a classic Disney short that he has to traverse to reach the next game world. While these are provide really neat recreations, the feel out of place with the rest of the game mostly because of the lack of danger or challenge in them. It simply feels as though they are padding between the game zones, rather than an integral part of the game play and pacing. I suppose they work as nice pallet cleansers between zones, but they still feel like they're missing something. That said, most all of these can be completed in less than a minute and aren't that distracting.

Overall, Epic Mickey's numerous flaws are particularly frustrating, not because they ruin the game, but because the game is so good. With better enemy variety and combat, more boss battles, improved and a better camera, and less reliance on fetch quests, Epic Mickey really could have been one of the all time greats. Instead it is simply a rock solid game for Wii owners, and a must have for Disney fans, story loving gamers and fans of platforming and exploration.

Pros:

+ A fantastic, modernized take on the nonlinear plaformers from the N64 days.

+ Solid control.

+ Looks amazing thanks to being both Technically and artistically well executed.

+ a 15+ Hour adventure with lots of replay value.

+ Unique in its addition of a fairly well done moral choice system.

+ Paint and Thinner are quite fun.

+ A treasure trove of classic Disney lore.

+ Fantastic, Pixar quality narrative and writing.

Cons

+ Camera is difficult to manage.

+ Combat could be improved.

+ The 2D segments don't quite jell with the rest of the game.

+ Over reliance on fetch quests.

"This game is so close."

This is the thought that continued to fly through my head as I played Epic Mickey. Honestly, Epic Mickey is a victim to two years of hype more than anything, well that and its abysmal camera, but we will get to that.

Most anyone intersted in this game knows the story by now. Yensid (right) created a world where Disney's forgotten works have a place to live, even though they aren't being used anymore. Mickey accidentally spills ink and paint thinner all over this world and creates an evil blot and damages the world greatly. Later, Mickey is pulled into what is now known as the Wasteland.

It starts with a Mad Scientist getting ready to literally plunge Mickey's heart out, but Oswald the Lucky Rabbit saves him. Mickey meets Gus the Gremlin who helps you through that first section with serves as a tutorial on the controls and the paint/thin element of the game. Also note this Nintendo. Gus basically plays the Navi of this game, and Gus isn't annoying. See? It can be done, please do so with Skyward Sword.

Mickey has a magic paintbrush that can create as well as destroy. B creates, Z uses thinner to erase the world piece by piece. The mechanic is almost limitless and works well. I won't spoil all the surprises, but early on you will create and remove gears for platforms, make rocks disappear and a variety of other interesting things.

You chase Oswald through a number of early worlds, saving other Gremlins (or not) and performing tasks for them. Most familiar of course being the Small World Ride.

Which brings us to the games problems. First it relies wholly too much on fetch quests to artificially lengthen the game. At one point you reach Main Street and have to get several items prior to leaving the area. This requires you to basically criss cross across the town several times over talking to different characters. It is annoying to say the least.

Second problem, which has been harped on by everyone is the abysmal camera. Luckily, the Epic Mickey team realized it was awful and put in a manual control scheme, however, that is little solace when making tough jumps onto moving planes above a lake of thinner. At one point, I made that jump and it looked like someone has dropped the camera. Needless to say, I wound up missing the jump and starting again.

Finally, for all of its hype, it is an awfully linear game. It plays more like a cross between Zelda and Mario than something truly epic and new. Each world is filled with large arenas that have multiple things to do. You basically methodically complete each room until you reach the end boss. This isn't necessarily bad, but you should be expecting it. I was not.

But the positives outweigh the negatives.

The game is just beautiful. The world is fleshed out and you can tell great love was put into this game by people who love Disney. Little things like the remade "Partners" statue from the parks will get the Disney lovers (like myself) smiling. But overall, the art direction is just amazing. And while the 2D "projector" stages may seem a bit incongruous in the game, they look and play beautiful.

Furthermore, the story is as good as any on the Wii right now. It is Disney and it comes with Disney quality. What struck me about the story is its sadness. Mickey has a long discussion with Clarabelle the Cow early in the game and it is heartwrenching. It is a story of loss and redemption. A story of memory and longing. It is a true experience, told through great cut scenes (though bizarrely unvoiced).

Finally, the decision engine works well. There is no "right and wrong" as many decision engine games have had. There is only what you want to do. Not only does it affect the ending, but it affects the gameplay. If you help Little Pete early for example, he will give you a treasure trove before you fight the Clock Tower. It feels organic and it works.

Epic Mickey is awfully close to being a great game, but in the end, it winds up being a very good one. There are spots that will bore you and others that will make you scream in frustration. But overall, the game will give you that same warm feeling that seeing a great Disney movie will.

Best Deals for Disney Epic Mickey - Nintendo Wii

after reading a feature in game informer about epic mickey a while back, i couldn't wait to get my hands on this game. as many other reviewers, i have been an avid fan of vintage disney (and poor little oswald!) for most of my life.

i want to start with the good, as there is definitely some there.

the art direction is AMAZING. there are so many wonderful little touches that are delightful (walt's apartment!). the music is AMAZING! i loved seeing wasteland...a very ridden-hard/put-away-wet version of disneyland. dark, sometimes bizarre, but always intriguing.

the concept for the game, i loved. that being said, i have never been more frustrated or said "oh what the crap" so many times while playing a video game.

the game bugs are too frequent. i would get stuck in a view where not only could i not see mickey, but i couldn't center the camera behind me either. there were bugs where i could use paint or thinner, however instead of the desired medium going where i was pointing, it would shoot straight back as if i was trying to paint or thin the "fourth wall" if you will.

the camera...oh that dreaded camera. so many times the dedicated camera would take over (when you can not center it behind you), and i could not see where i was going, i sometimes could not see where i was, and would end up dying because i couldn't see a jump, a platform, an enemy, anything. this factor ruined a majority of the game for me. call me old fashioned, but i like to see where i'm going.

the aiming system was...really something. you get used to it over time, but many times when you aim at something, even when your target is centered on it, your medium does not go there. you can overshoot and usually hit your intended target, but that seems a little funky to me. you also can not paint or thin an area you are standing on.

the save points are a little wonky. sometimes i had no idea when it last saved. sometimes if you had to start a level over (which is frequent when you die from things you can't see), some of the things you had done were saved, and some were not (oh you dreaded mad doctor sequence!). there seemed to be no rhyme or reason to it.

i didn't understand the benefit to painting in the scenery (even though i did) when you have to paint it again each time you return to the same area. it was like, what's the point?

i am at the final stages, so i did plow through, and that was mainly because i didn't want to miss the scenery. i think it was a little silly that you have to play the side scrolling levels each time you go back and forth between "worlds" but i did find the side scrolling levels to be very well done. i loved the art in the cut scenes, and the ability to collect concept art overall. i just spent too much time frustrated at the poor controls to ever want to play this again after i have completed it. i don't even want to keep it, which for me is rare.

a weird review, for sure. a confusing experience most definitely. if they restructured the controls, i would pick this back up in a heartbeat. but i can not recommend this to anyone in the state it is in. :(

long live oswald!

*** UPDATE ***

after completing the game last night i feel i have to adjust my review slightly (no spoilers, don't worry!).

i was so moved by the ending that i no longer want to get rid of the game. i am now set upon re-playing to complete as many quests as possible.

i just thought it was worth putting out there. tremendous ending. (02.02.11)

Honest reviews on Disney Epic Mickey - Nintendo Wii

As the title implies, this game is a mash up of Who Framed Roger Rabbit and various Mario games. Which is not a bad thing at all, both properties are great in their own right and very much worthy of imitation. Epic Mickey borrows some storyline ideas from Who Framed Roger Rabbit and game play mechanics from Mario with a side of Disney and makes it their own.

There is a lot of history to be had with this game, if you're an avid Disney fan this is a must buy. Now with that being said it is still just as enjoyable even if you're a casual fan to even really not being one at all. I believe this game would be a good time for just about any age group, and any gamer just looking for a fun game to play, there's a little something for everyone.

The controls are pretty fluid and intuitive for the most part, and very easy to pick up from the start. The graphics are amazing by Wii standards, you really feel as if you're in the cartoon itself. The characters are engaging and the story is well thought out and entertaining. As stated above the history is rich and actually pretty interesting.

A couple of cons would be that sometimes the aiming system is a little off, takes some playing around with depending on where you're located. The camera takes a little time to get used to, it would be better if it was fixed but since it's not I wish there was another way to control it rather than using the cross pad. My final complaint would be that I wished they used real voices instead of the dialogue being in a text format; realistically this isn't really a con as more as it is a preference.

Overall the cons don't really do much to hinder the game experience, and for sure the pros out weight them. Honestly the only people who wouldn't find this title enjoyable would be the hardcore guns blazing FPS fans and/or Microsoft/Sony fan boys that refuse to play the Wii for some crazy loyalty to their system of choice.

Worth picking up for full price, you won't be sorry.

Michael

I've been looking forward to this game quite a bit, but was very disappointed by the camera. It causes game play issues as many have noted, but it also is really bad for those of us with motion sickness.

The camera doesn't move smoothly, and often requires manual movement with the D-Pad. Either of these issues would be enough to make me ill. Both together were far more than my body could handle. I was deeply ill with nausea in a very short time of playing, and unfortunately I won't be able to play this Epic adventure that I've looked forward to so much.

Notably I haven't had any motion sickness with many games. Super Mario Galaxy, Metroid Prime 3, Zelda: Twilight Princess and Endless Ocean have all been great for me (to name a few...and they're all GREAT games!) However, this title didn't work for me to my sadness. Looking around the internet my plight isn't uncommon. I found several reviews suggesting that people with motion sickness should avoid this game, I was sorry I hadn't seen those reviews sooner and hope this review will be useful for others who deal with Motion Sickness.

Sonic Adventure 2 Battle is one of the best Gamecube games ever. I got it about 2 months ago AND I'M HOOKED ON IT!!!! It's so good, I just broke my wrist and STILL playing it. Heck, I'm gonna go play it after I write this review. If your a gamer who likes high speed games, you'll love it. If you like a great plot, you'll love it. If you want a slow and easy game, you'll love the chao raising system. Of course you will have to go through the levels to get the items requiered (My spelling is horrible...) to do it. The Battle system isn't all it is cracked up to be. Each one lasts about 30 seconds. Unless you're doing a race battle which takes about 2 minutes. The hero and dark story is a nice twist on the gaming world. Save the world, or destroy it? (man my fingers are starting to hurt from typing...) The bottem line is...it's worth every penny. If you say this review wasn't helpful, well it should of been. If you say yes, I'll write a beginning walkthrough to get you started-and hooked-on Sonic Adventure 2 Battle.

This game is Awesome! I never thought I'd be playing Sonic on a Nintendo console but he seems right at home on the fantastic Gamecube! I haven't played the Dreamcast version so I can't compare the two but the graphics for this version are amazing! there is so much detail and it's soooooo fast! When you start your main game you have the choice of playing the hero side with Sonic and friends or the dark side with Shadow and co. this makes the main game even more interesting. The multiplayer is also allot of fun there are seven mimi games three of which have to be unlocked (I'm still trying to get the last one) my favourite is racing down the city streets it's a blast literally!

This is one of the must have titles along with Smash Bros. Melee for the Gamecube. Like it predecessors it's a classic already.

Best Deals for Sonic Adventure 2 Battle - GameCube

Who would have thought that after the long Sega Vs Nintendo feuds that Sonic the Hedgehog would finally grace the Nintendo format?

Mario, Luigi and Sonic sharing the same hardware. But does "Sonic Adventure 2: Battle" live up to the hype?

Firstly 12 playable Sonic characters are on this game. The makers of this game give you lots of sonic for all the year's they've deprived us of it. And they deliver it in story mode (1 player) and multi-player battles.

There are 2 sides that you can play on, 'Hero' or 'Dark'. One trying to save the world, the other trying to destroy it. This is an excellent feature as it gives you double the game time. And don't worry about wondering if they're the same levels just with different characters, each side has its own storyline and own levels. The Sonic team did not skimp on missions. Also when you finish both the 'Hero' and 'Dark' one last mission pops up in the middle of the two. An extra stage indeed.

The multiplayer in this game is good also. You can do 3 categories: Shooting, racing or treasure hunting. The racing levels are the best as it allows you to go through past levels Versing your friend while attacking each other. This is depending on how many rings you have, the more rings, the better the attacks. A multiplayer game you earn is that of Kart Racing. Just like Mario Kart except with Sonic characters.

But what you do when you've finished the game and there's no one to play in multi-player?

Well, The sonic team have added their own versions of Tamogotchi called 'Chao'. You feed them, nurture them, teach them and make them grow up to either be Evil Chao or Good chao. A lot of fun can be had and it passes the time very quickly as you can also make chao fight or race each other.

The sound in this game is not what I would have hoped for. It puts voices to all the characters and its not even in synch. One problem I also found with the voice overs is that the characters cut each other off.The music in the background is also tedious as its bad 80's rock with annoying repetitious choruses. This was the main con of the game.

The graphics are good, clear and precise although they could be more sharp. But you don't really notice the graphics when your running 500 miles per second down a bridge road.

The camera in this game definitely needs work as it has a habit of getting into very out of the way angles which its effect is killing you as you can not see where you're going. But it is tolerable.

The storyline itself is also divided into 3 sections. Shooting, Racing and Treasure hunting. The sonic/shadow (racing) levels are the best but only take up 30% of the entire game. The shooting levels are tolerable with Tails/Robotnik but are pretty much just button mashing. The hunting levels with Rouge/Knuckles aren't as bad as people make it out to be. I found all the emeralds pretty easy it just takes patience. Everytime you win a stage you get an emblem which adds to your tally, if you get all 180 emblems you get a level of the old sonic 2 game.

So overall, here's what the game offers.

Pros:

12 characters from the Sonic series on the Nintendo Gamecube

Can play on the 'Hero' side or the 'Dark' side

Chao (Like tamogotchi)

Multiplayer

Lots of Gameplay time

Cons:

Music

Lip synching

Not enough sonic stages

Camera angles

Overall its a good game where the good outweigh the bad. I suggest you rent it first and see if you like the gameplay. Especially if you've never played Sonic before. But this game is definitely for the Sonic fans out there.

It gets 4 out of 5 stars.

Honest reviews on Sonic Adventure 2 Battle - GameCube

Sonic the Hedgehog used to be a huge hit for the Sega system. Now that Sega isn't a competitor any more, the GameCube has picked up this star and expanded its gameplay.

First, for normal gameplay, you now get to choose from a good or bad team instead of just one character. Each team is made up of 3 individual characters. You can be the "good guys" Sonic, Tails, and Knuckles. Or you can choose to be the "bad guys" Dr. Eggman, Shadow, and Rouge.

Each team through stages in their own path, and the end result of each path comes together. The stages are fun to play, as the various characters have their own styles of missions and quests.

In addition, there is also a multiplayer fighting mode. You can do an Action Race battle where four sonic-like characters (each with their own strengths and weaknesses) get to race along tracks. There are treasure-hunt races, and shooting battles.

For some, the best part are the Chao parts of the game. A chao is a little creature you raise from an egg. Depending on how you raise it, the creature can turn out good and loving, or dark and evil. You can then race your Chaos or let them karate-battle each other. It's your own little GameCube Black-and-White Creature!

Definitely a game with something for everyone, whether your gaming addiction tends towards racing, fighting, or creature-rearing!

Actually, I will give it a 4.6. There are a few detractors to this game, namely the camera angles and the fact that the BGM is so darn loud during cut scenes...

Otherwise, I don't know what to say. The game is campy and hilariously so. I'm not saying it's like the "Plan Nine from Outer Space" of games. The levels are totally rad. The controls are great and easy. The game is challenging, yet it is never stupidly hard (except for the Final stage...and Final Chase which drove me nuts because it would have been easy except for those blue blob things!!). The chao are disgustingly adorable; I could watch them for hours (castinets!). All in all, more entertaining than a Golden Girls marathon (best show ever!).

Yet, it is still campy. The storyline is cheesy and like something you would see on MST3K (starring....JOE DON BAKER as DR. EGGMAN!) but that makes it all more loveable. Doesn't Eggman have a job or a life outside of persuing Sonic and pals? Poor bloke, no wonder why he's tripped his trolley.

The voices are funny, especially Tails. He sounds like Degrassi Jr. High reject (Tails: Soonic! Have you seen my Cyclune yet? It can rilly fly, eh?) and Rouge reminds me of Sami from Days of our Lives. Also, be sure to listen to the Japanese voices!

The funniest parts come in the lyrics to the Knuckles raps. "I know that it's here, I can sense it in my feet!"--never has anyone rapped that passionately about a anthropomorphic red echidna. The "rock" songs are so cheesy and 80's, they should have been performed by Starship or Mr. Mister. Rouge's songs all sound like someone held Burt Bacharach up at gunpoint and forced him to compose video game music (not that there is anything wrong with that).

I love the two-player mode. My favorite character is thereTikal! It only really, really bugs me that you can't compete against the CPU! Oh well. The "desktop" themes are cute, too.

While not perfect, I think you get a lot for your money. I have not played a Sonic game since Genesis and I always thought the cartoon(s) was(were) wonky. It's nice to see the Sonic Team crew again. All in all, this game is cooler than the Fonz and Orko, driving down the Autobahn in a Delorean with Lawrence "Chunk" Cohen in the backseat, blaring Kraftwerk out the window.

This adaptor is supposed to work for several systems, including XBox, Gamecube, N64 and others (where is the Dreamcast inclusion)? Hooking this up to either a N64 or Playstation (original) makes it sound horrible. It sounds like static while the game is running. It is so bad that you can not coherently hear voices or music, it all sounds very scratchy. Without the clean sound, obviously, some games are completely unplayable. I am sure it likely works that way with other systems, too. Do not be fooled by the price. Please just buy a first party rf cord for each console of your choice.

Ok i got this item but when you put an n64 system on the adapter and you turn the system on, it takes like 5 seconds for the screen to come up. After that the sound quality is very poor. I dont know about other systems but on n64 it dosent seem to work very good.

I actually disagree with the 2 reviewers on it not working for the n64 I have used this adaptor for my N64 on Zelda and Harvest Moon 64 and haven't had a problem hearing the music, sound, or voices. Also it is a very good adaptor and I am considering buying another one since you can switch between systems since I own a Cube, a Ps2, and a N64 and it does come in handy because my nephew comes out with a game for either the Gamecube or the Ps2 each weekend and thanks to this adaptor I don't have to pull out the av cords or a single adaptor for each system. In my opinion this is probably the best adaptor on the market for the old systems now I don't know if it will work for the Ps3 yet since I haven't tested it yet.

I'll try to be nice and start with the good:

There are parts of this game, visually, that are beautiful. I played it to the end just for that aspect alone. The graphics in all modes, whether you're playing as FP, 3rdP or watching a cut scene, are very nice...really beautiful. Moria was my favorite; the Balrog and Gandalf's fall into Shadow was cool.

In many ways, it's true to LOTR books and a nice way to learn the basic story if you can't/won't read the books. Also, there are parts of the books that you don't get in the movies. Tom Bombadil (as annoying as he may be) and Narzil reforged being the biggest points. One quirky thing...in the cut scenes, the characters look much different than the characters when you're playing them...which is odd. I found it funny that in the cutscenes, the Hobbits have curly hair (as Hobbits do), but in the game, they all have staight hair...in fact, everyone who has hair has straight hair.

Here are the major downfalls...some of which are maddening:

The gameplay is shamefully bad! Did no one test this game? Shame on them! First, you can't fight in FP mode, other than to use your alternative weapon (rock, bow, magick). So, you're forced to fight in 3rdP mode and suddenly the 'camera' angle goes haywire! You can't see who or what you're fighting or suddenly there's a tree or a wall in your way. This is inexcusable IMHO.

Also, you can't choose which character you can play and there's no changing the difficulty. You can't venture very far and just look around either = no replay value!

Add on that the characters all move like they're Cave Trolls on smack, and you've got a recipe for disaster. No skill really required...you keep pounding away at your mouse. Not so much fun or good for the hardware.

If that's not enough, I found the game to be rather buggy. Once in Moria Gandalf was stuck in a wall...I couldn't move and had to start over. It crashed my system many times and I have a 'stout-hearted' system that even Samwise the Brave would admire.

Also, there are times when you really don't have to fight anyone at all to pass the level. This is especially 'helpful' when you're Frodo since he can't do much of anything. If you just run to the end, picking up Mushrooms, Cram and Lembas as you go, you can pass to the next phase. I did this several times with Frodo with the ghosts (Paths of the Dead?), the Orcs in Moria and the Urku-Hai just before the end. Why bother playing at all? And what about the Ring, which I think I used once just to put the darn thing on a see what happens! Who cares about gaining purity when you don't have to use the Ring??

The 'puzzles' were laughably easy and the game was so short, I was angry that I'd actually paid for this bundle of [junk]. It's a total ripoff that completely takes advantage of the new generation of Tolkien fans that the movies have created. Obviously, Peter Jackson had nothing to do with the game.

I've played more engaging games on a Commodore 64!

Bottom line: Save your money...Tolkien Enterprises doesn't need it.

A new Lord of the Rings RPG is out for the PS2, XBox and other platforms. How well does the first book in the trilogy translate to a role playing game?

To start with, you're doing a role-playing game and start out as Frodo. There's no fighting, just wandering around in a very nicely rendered Morrowind-style graphic house and town. You have a purity meter, so don't go stealing things from others' houses!

You have simple quests to achieve get a mill working, find the pigs. You gather up some firecrackers and mushrooms (yum!) and deal with your annoying relatives. In hardly any time at all you've met up with Sam, Merry and Pippin and have left the Shire.

The game progresses like that Frodo just creeps along, solves random quests and tries to stay pure. You can use the ring to find secret areas, but using the ring makes you more corrupt. You have to do good deeds (i.e. these little quests) to keep yourself balanced. Eventually you can also play Aragorn and Gandalf, and stop into other locations such as Bree, Weathertop, Rivendell, and up through the end of the book at the river's edge.

I was disappointed because the back of the game made it sound as if you could *be* any of the three characters (Frodo, Aragorn, Gandalf). Instead you're stuck as Frodo in the beginning, trudging around from house to house. Most houses don't even have anyone in them and the few that do are often empty. The puzzles are solved in about 2 minutes each with little thought.

I do enjoy the graphics, and the way each character is a 'type' is fun. Frodo's purity and thieving skills, Aragorn's fighting, Gandalf's magic. The cut scenes are good and help to move the story along, and flow in with what you are doing.

Still, I really would have enjoyed something a bit more involved, with quests that involved more actual thought, with real thieving being necessary instead of just 'pick lock ok got deed' and 'sneak along road -ok got past riders'. The quests are very obvious you get 2 or 3 explicit clues for each one that push you into the right direction. The voice actors sometimes seem bored with what is a world-rescuing epic. Gandalf's recitation of the 'one ring to rule them all' at the beginning sounds like he's reading through a shopping list!

In any case, it's fun to wander around the various locations and interact with the characters from the book. The graphics are nice, and they include many characters that the movie didn't have time to include. A must have for Lord of the Rings fans, if only to participate in sort of a 'moving story book' that lets them, for a time, return to that fantastically detailed world created by J.R.R. Tolkein. As a HUGE fan of the series, that includes me!

Best Deals for The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring - PC

If you are looking for a game that is true to the story (minus certain points that are also absent from the movie), you will find this game to be a true adaptation. If you are looking for a game that is smooth to play and extremely enjoyable, regardless of your love of Tolkein, or lack there of, look elsewhere.

Overall, there's the rub. This game is primarily aimed for an audience who loves the Lord of the Rings and is looking to play it out on his PC.

The game is cinematic, which distinguishes it from most adventure games on the market, which are aimed at hack and slash. You have a series of quests to complete, and they are played out, primarily, through the interaction with NPCs in the game.

One of my biggest beefs, as a PC game, is you have to work with a variety of key strokes to get anywhere. Hooking the game up to the strategic commander made things easier, but there are far too many different elements to program to make this an easy bout. I can see where this game plays out much better on different types of consoles (Playstation, XBox, et al).

The graphics are fairly standard for games these days, but standard falls far short of games like Dungeon Siege, which makes this game a hard sell for non-Tolkien lovers.

I am an avid fan of Tolkein, and I really enjoyed playing out his world on my computer. But, I cannot give this game a great rating and hold onto my conscience.

Rating:

Graphics: 6

Story: 8

Playability: 5

Controls: 2

Overall: 4

Summary:

If you are a real Tolkien fan, this game may well warrant the price. If not, there is much better fare on the market.

Honest reviews on The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring - PC

Do not buy this game if you have an older PC. I have 2 PCs and I couldn't get it to run correctly on either. One of the PCs is less than a year old. When I wrote to the support people, they told me that the game does require a video card with at least 32MB of video memory (and other requirements). Mine only has 16MB. To be fair, it does say that on the box (in the small print). They should be required to put that in big letters on the front of the box. Especially since you can't return it once you've opened it. I did go out and buy a new video card (PNY Verto with nVidia GeForce4 MX 420 w/ 64MB of video memory ). Now the game seems to be running OK, but I haven't done much yet. It does look good once you get it running. I don't think it's for the hard-core gamer though.

Hey guys,

I know a lot of you are complaining that "this game is too short" but think about it: The Lord of the Rings is about being on a journey with some dangers along the way, but mosty it's about traveling. It really isn't such a small game in terms of map size. The problem is you run through it because there aren't as many monsters to fight as in other games.

Look at Dungeon Siege. You can't walk five spaces without having another band of monsters to fight. Every bit of space in Dungeon Siege is filled with monsters. Same with most other battle games. The Fellowship of the Ring is different. There are large open spaces and places to travel without montsters.

I don't think of this as a disadvantage. Sure the game is only 5 or 6 hours long in terms of gameplay but at least I immerse myself in middle earth during that time! I think there is replay value in this game especially if you love the stories and you want to revisit middle earth. However if you're looking only for fighting in every inch of the map there are tons of other games that offer that.

Few games give you middle earth! This game delivers on that! Give it some credit!

as someone that own this on the Dreamcast, i can say that this is almost a perfect copy. it has all the fighters and moves, but its missing the mission mode. the mission mode was how you unlocked fighters and weapens in the dreamcast version. in this version, they are already unlocked for you. i would highly recommend this game for folks that never owned a dreamcast and want to play one of its gems.

The original Soul Calibur debuted in the Arcade in 1998. And though it wasn't popular in the Arcade initially, it did have an enormous release on the Dreamcast. The original Soul Calibur is said to be one of the greatest games of all time. It's a shame then, that the XBOXLive Arcade game is more insistent on porting over the Arcade version as opposed to the Dreamcast variation of the game. The variation that was, by all standards, a far superior version. And more than that, the game was left in the standard 4:3 ratio.

That's not to say that any of this makes SoulCalibur in and of itself a bad game. The original game is still fantastic to this day. It is a marvelous game that any fan of the fighting genre ought to take a moment to play and get acquainted with because there are not many fighting games out there like it. It ranks highly among critics and fans for a reason (it is also one of the few video games to retain its five star rating on Amazon.com after all these years). This review isn't here to talk about the mechanics of SoulCalibur, however. Or how fantastic it is. It is here to talk about the conversion and how I feel XBOXLive Arcade owners aren't being allowed to have the full experience of the game in and of itself.

One of the reasons that SoulCalibur was so jaw dropping and defining upon its original release was because the home console release included so much more than the Arcade release. It included a lot more modes and things to do than what the Arcade could actually provide. There was more than Arcade. There was a survival mode and a mission mode to keep you going. There was also plenty of things given to you as a result of mission mode. You collected points to unlock Artwork. But Mission Mode is gone. This may not be a big deal, but this is sort of what really separated SoulCalibur from its Arcade Counterpart. The fact that there was an actual single player experience. And the missions were quite amusing and interesting. Players were actually working toward something by unlocking artwork. The Art Gallery is still here, at least and you get all the artwork, but it begs the question as to why they opted not to provide anything else. Granted it is XBOXLive Arcade, but we've seen some other games on XBLA that aren't specifically Arcade stylized in their approach. Games like Scott Pilgrim or Castle Crasher or the newly released Battleblock Theater all have distinctly console style things about them as well. SoulCalibur isn't a lazy port, it's just one that feels like it could've given players everything. The Dreamcast version isn't rare by any means, but the Dreamcast version is the only version where gamers can get the full experience of what the original SoulCalibur is. And it feels like the XBOXLive Arcade has taken that away.

We haven't even gotten into the things that would've been a nice touch that they nothing with. Yes, the graphics are HD but not going the extra mile to provide a 16:9 wide screen presentation is kind of lazy considering they had no problem doing this with other ports to the XBLA. Again, these are things that might not be so bothersome in the long run... but for much of this, it seems like it would be more worthwhile to find a used Dreamcast and a used copy of the game. You'd get more bang for your buck in terms of content and you'd hardly notice some of the more artistic changes. The original Soul Calibur is still a gorgeous game no matter how you slice it, and playing in Standard Definition is not going to change that.

What is more than likely going to disappoint many players, however, is that the port to the XBLA has no online support whatsoever. Other fighting games put on the Arcade were given online support to be able to play against anyone.

Soul Calibur is a great fighting game. One that should be played by everyone. It's just a shame that so much of the XBLA port is a very watered down version of the classic we've all come to love over the years, and that most of us still retain memories for. If you still have a Dreamcast, you're better off trying to find a copy for that system. If not, the XBOXLive Arcade is not the definitive way to experience this classic.

The buttons were cool looking and arrived promptly, I just still haven't been able to replace them yet. I thought it was going to be an easier process. I see now that other buttons come with a T8 Security driver. I thought with all the tools my husband owns, we surely had something that would unscrew the screws of the controller. We didn't. Home depot didn't. I forgot where my husband finally did find one, but then the head was still too short to fit in 2 of the deep holes to completely unscrew the controller.

I have been looking for a replacement for my official wired controller because it had slow turn and also the rb button stopped working. I waited for the Razer onza which I had high hopes for and was seriously let down by it due to the fact that you couldnt even press the thumbsticks down while they were fully moved in any position and that the sticks felt so inconsistent with the tightening mechanism. So I saw this nice little controller from mad catz. I have been weary of their products in the past but after owning a fight stick and the quality of it changed my mind. This controller looks simialr to the COD one from mad catz. I cannot comment on that one but this controller is awesome. Here is why.

Pros

The thumbsticks are super smooth and click with authority.

The rb and lb also click with nice feedback.

The flat top a,b,x,y buttons are great (might not be for everybody but I like them)

Soft touch coating feels amazing.

The tumbsticks light up 3 different colors! (impractical but very cool nonetheless)

Cons

The dpad could be better but it works fine.

Placement of the extra buttons makes them a little difficult to use.

If you are looking for a good wired replacement controller I would highly recommend this one.

Everything good that people say about this is true. It's lightweight, responsive, the customizable LED lights look great. Never needs re-charging. I like that because it's an x-box controller it has a breakaway cable so my motherboard doesn't get destroyed when my dogs run bye, or anyone else for that matter. The rubber on the analog sticks and side-grips feels nice. The buttons are solid, the d-pad feels much better than a 1st party x-box controller, as do all four triggers. The analog sticks are kinda light, that's not really a gripe, but I wish they felt a but more solid, however, because of this I think it gains responsiveness. It's the best for twitch gaming. I've played a lot of games with it now including Assassin's Creed 3, Hitman: Absolution, Deadlight, and I even played in the Firefall beta (1st and 3rd person shooter/MMO). It's absolutely perfect. PLUG AND PLAY on Windows 7. Drivers download and load right up. No work whatsoever! ...Now wouldn't it be a better world if everything was the same way? I've had mine for 2 weeks and everything feels exactly like it did upon unboxing. The mappable back buttons are responsive and have a nice light click, it's good to have the ability to map those, being that a lot of PC games have more complicated or numerous control schemes. I'm not crazy about the blue color, and I wish I had black (I just think it looks nicer, personally. Especially since the LED colors are yellow, red, and lime green. They just don't look good in contrast. That's a purely aesthetic preference. It was the last one Gamestop had though, and I had to have it right then and there. The reason I agree so heavily with the positive reviews of each feature is that I checked the Amazon reviews in the store and put my faith in every positive (and negative) thing I read. The negative reviews are completely off-base. That is, except for the DOA ones...which happens to even the best of companies, even for the best computer hardware. That said...

I worked at Gamestop for years and have been an avid gamer all my life. The rule was NEVER, I mean NEVER EVER, buy MadCatz anything. By official or the Logitech(huge Logitech fan here) was always the only safe bet. Brand new MadCatz controllers, among other things, were being returned left-and-right on the same day (It was such a pain in the butt shipping those defected peripherals back to the warehouse). Well, apparently they have quality tiers and this is the Cadillac-Level tier, OR they stepped up their game in a big way. Okay, I'm off to play Xenoblade Saga on my Wii emulator with my favorite controller I've owned. Time to see how well it handles JRPGs, I'd be willing to bet anything that it will do just fine.

Hope this helped you...and Game On!

Best Deals for Xbox 360 Officially licensed F.P.S. Pro Wired GamePad

Customer review from the Amazon Vine Program Historically, I haven't always been a fan of Mad Catz products. In the past I've found their controllers to be bulky with poor ergonomics and features I'd rarely use.

This one is an exception.

For starters, it slips into your hand as comfortably as official Xbox 360 controllers -even has non-slip grips to help them stay firmly in hand -and yet feels somehow more sturdy. One guesses this controller could take a beating. This controller feels good.

The analog sticks and buttons are all placed identically to the official controller, and each are just as responsive. The triggers have been tweaked, and for the better. They're not as large, meaning faster response when shooting, zooming, etc. The bumpers are better placed, too, putting them in easier reach and again helping improve response times.

Buttons on the back allow you to remap controller settings on the fly. A solid feature, thought not one I use often.

The LED lights under the analog sticks are pretty, but that's pure style over substance. I keep them off.

I've played through RPGs, shooters, arcade games and racing games with this controller and have been pleased all around. If you're in need of a replacement, this is recommended.

Honest reviews on Xbox 360 Officially licensed F.P.S. Pro Wired GamePad

Customer review from the Amazon Vine Program The FPS Pro for the XBOX 360 is officially licensed and is a nice, sturdy product. The plastic and rubber is high quality and has a nice feel to it. The joypad is neither to big nor too small and fits well in my medium sized hands. The contours on the back of the pad allow me to comfortably rest my pinky, ring, and middle fingers while I am playing.

The two rubberized sections on the sides has some treads(like a tire) so my palm can rest nicely without slipping during heavy gameplay. The pad itself features four shoulder buttons placed horizontally and vertically. The horizontal/vertical layout I found to be intuitive and aids during gameplay.

The two analog sticks are smooth and control well. The choice of four lighted colors below the analog sticks look cool, but also has a function. You can adjust the "Combat" button settings(LSB,RSB,Y,X,A,B) wit a corresponding color to remember the button settings.

The gamepad also comes with a USB cable adaptor to allow you to use this pad for your PC or laptop gaming, very convenient. The only drawback I found with this pad is that the directional pad is a little stiff(not an issue if you mostly use the analog sticks). Otherwise this is a great gamepad that is high quality, responsive during gameplay, and is versatile.
