D_Skin 20 Pack (DVD/Game/CD) - PlayStation Reviews

These are great because I have little kids who like to put their own DVDs in the player and of course get fingerprints or worse all over them. So this is a way for them to be independent and for me not to be paranoid about their hurting the disks. Having said that, there does seem to be one drawback. The skins work better on new or unblemished disks. If the disk is already a little scratched, the device seems less able to read the disk with a skin on. However, I have never had a problem with a new disk. So it may be that the skin does add a little interference which only serves to magnify any problem the disk has. I still give it 5 stars because it's such an awesome product.

I bought these in hope that they would be the great thing that they are advertised to be. They weren't! First of all, when using them on an Xbox game, it GREATLY slows down the game, to the point that it is unplayable. When I tried to use these in my laptop, they were a no go! It wouldn't even read the disk and it sounded like my laptop was an airplane taking off due to my cd drive frantically trying to read the disk to no avail. On a desktop computer, it will read some data disks with the d-skin on it, but it's slow. You won't be watching an mpg or vcd movie with the d-skin on for instance. I don't know how well they work on a cd player with musical cd's, but anything else is definately out. Since I am an mp3 man, I have no need to play music cd's, so I haven't tried them. I wish these worked as promised, I REALLY do, it would be a dream. Perhaps someday this idea will be perfected and then I can give FIVE stars instead of ONE!

I primarily use these for music CD's and they are great. I was hesitant about putting it in my CD player because it's a 6-disc in-dash changer and I was worried it would get stuck or something. It didn't and I now use them on all of my cd's, One 20-pack cost the same as it would cost to replace one scratched CD. Overall a great product.

Honest reviews on D_Skin 20 Pack (DVD/Game/CD) - PlayStation

I decided go give these D_Skin protectors a try, even though there have been some pretty poor reviews. I've had no problem with them. I've put them on a bunch of my favorite DVDs and tested them on my Sony Vaio Laptop computer, and my Sony 5 disc DVD player, and an old Sony DVD player ( 5 or 6 years old) and it works fine on all of them. It does not work in my XBox. The XBox finds the disk unreadable with a skin on.

Seems a very nice way to protect my favorite and most expensive or hard-to-replace DVDs.

okayb first off i just got this today so far its half good and half bad it plays my ps2 games pretty fine a little noise on some but not enough to effect the way it plays for use of ps2 games in the ps2 slim when ps2 slim is modded 5 stars i don't know if it plays in the slim when the slim ps2 is not modded, i tryed to play dvds in my modded ps2 slim with d-skin's on and it won't read the disk and i put it in a new dvd player it would not work so for use of protecting your dvds on a mac dvd player ps2 or laptop 1 star. for use of protecting ps2 games 5 stars... one of the reasons i rated this 5 stars i because its the thing that protects it while it plays

Worked great! Installed jungle flasher on my laptop, and I was good. You'll need a way to power the device during this. Don't use the xbox360!! I used "AGT External 110V Power Supply 12V DC 4-Pin Molex SATA Adapter Cable" or you can use a molex from your desktop. If you don't have a dektop computer or don't know what a molex is, get the Exteral power supply.

This is a great tool. For all of you guys wondering it comes with everything you need except a molex power supply (you can use your motherboard but its a lot easier with the molex adapter). It works great and haven't had any issues. Thanks!

yes, the game is exactly what you expect.

in case anybody is wondering, you CAN play guitar hero instruments (drums, guitar, mic) with this game. in the GHWT drumset, the orange cymbal doubles as the blue pad on the RB drums. they all work perfectly.

Click Here For Most Helpful Customer Reviews >>

Other people have and will write thorough reviews so I won't.

The basic gameplay is very similar to any other Rock Band so if you like Rock Band and the Beatles you'll like this game.

It's similar except for the three microphones. The harmonies are really cool. This is a great addition to the game.

There are some other differences that I thought were worth talking about. First, the difficulty scale has an easier entry point than the other games. On RB2 I play guitar well on medium and very poorly on hard. For the Beatles, the low end of the scale is much easier. I've been playing very well on hard. By the time you get to the hard end of the scale things have balanced out and I fail on hard which is normal. This is much closer to the scale of RB2.

I think that's good for two reasons. First a lot of people who haven't played Rock Band will want to try this game. They will be able to have fun pretty much from the word go. More importantly, this game can use three microphones. If you're going to sing and play an instrument at the same time you'll be glad some songs are easier. Playing a fake guitar and singing at the same time can be hard.

Have fun playing.

Tech Note for Wii:

Some USB combinations don't work for the extra microphones. I don't know why.

I couldn't find anything in the manual about how to hook up three mics so I used a standard PC USB hub which worked without a hitch.

I fully expected The Beatles Rock Band to be my favorite game of this type based on musical consistency alone. I didn't expect the game to be the mostly beautifully rendered, artistically intricate game I've ever played on any platform, ever. It would have been easy to just replace the regular Rock Band characters with Beatles. However, everything is different. There are literally completely different animations on almost every song. I agree with the previous review that I screwed up riffs being mesmerized by what was happening on the screen. I was skeptical that the game would be able to separate vocal, guitar, and drum tracks on these recordings, some of which are almost 50 years old, but this is done seamlessly. The sound quality is great, bright and crisp without sounding 'enhanced.' I can't believe, with the level of intensity and anticipation I've had in waiting for this game for the last year, that it actually meets and exceeds my expectations.

Honest reviews on The Beatles: Rock Band (Game Only) - Nintendo Wii

I purchased this for my daughter's 13th birtday. She has been a Beatles fan for years and this was on the top of her birtday list. The game is excellent she plays it all the time. The music is great and there are many choices which makes the game challenging. She can play by herself or with the family. The only thing that I will say is that I did not know that you had to have the guitar in order to play (or at least one instrument) I thought that you could play with the wii remote until instruments were purchased. (maybe I just misunderstood) However when we went to play the game for the first time we reaslized that it will not work without an instrument so we had to go out and buy that also. If you give as a gift make sure to include an instrument (which can be an expensive gift when combined with the game) or make sure the person already has at least one. The good thing is that you can use guitar hero or generic wii instruments and do not have to purchase rockband instruments. We found a guitar hero guitar on sale and it works perfect! Highly recommend this game to any beatles fan!

...way too short. I was able to breeze through this on medium within 2 hours. I'm glad I thought to rent this first before buying it. If the price was $ cheaper, it would've been a must-have. I can't see paying $ for a Wii game (and I can't believe others shelling out more for the instrument bundles!) with no extras. (You will be able to download full albums in October...at a price of course!)

I thought the production quality was excellent. I loved the cut scenes and animated performances. I only wish that it incorporated more of GUITAR HERO's playability/game mechanics. Rock Band's "medium" is too easy, yet their "hard" is too hard if that makes sense.

This is a game that I will definitely buy down the road if the price is right or if I found it used cheap enough. I would definitely tell a person to rent it before buying it unless you are a die-hard Beatles' fan.

Mad Catz Offically Licensed Major League Gaming Pro Circuit MLG Controller for Playstation 3
Customer Ratings: 3 stars

***DISCLAIMER*** This review was not written by a tournament going pro gamer (like the controller is marketed to) but by a hardcore gamer that enjoys and has access to all the consoles and a gaming capable PC. Thus, I had different expectations for it.

I purchased this controller after watching the MadCatz spokesperson demonstrate it during CES. What grabbed my interest was the modular nature of the controller (swap in different joystick/d-pad types at different positions depending on what style you like to use) and the "Reverse Trigger mode". Most shooters on PS3 map their Aiming/Shooting functions to the shoulder buttons instead of the analog triggers because the Dual Shock 3's triggers are crap for shooting games. This controller mode swaps L1 & L2, R1 & R2. Madcatz has really gone out of their way to change their image as a budget controller maker with their recent fighting game joystick products (I own 2 of them), so I felt pretty confident in giving them another shot.

Overall, I'm extremely happy with my purchase, but there is definitely room for improvement:

***PROS***

JOYSTICK AND D-PAD MODULES WORK AS ADVERTISED

The controller comes with (2) Playstation 3-style joysticks (convex, with same style of rubber on top), (2) Xbox 360 joysticks (concave, with the little rubber nubs on the edges of the joystick top), (1) PS3 style D-pad and (1) Xbox 360 style D-pad. The only limitation you have is that you cannot put D-pads in the right joystick position. You're free to customize it any way you like after that though. I currently use the Xbox 360 gamepad layout, subbing in a PS3 joystick for the left stick, and a PS3 d-pad in the d-pad slot. What I also REALLY liked was that the FUNCTIONS of the controller are tied to the module. Let me explain. When I swap D-pad and joystick positions on this controller to play Uncharted, that doesn't mean that I'm controlling Drake with a D-pad and selecting weapons with a joystick. The controller intelligently maps the functions to exactly what I was expecting: Top-Left Joystick position controls movement, Bottom-Left D-pad controls weapon switching. It works beautifully.

REVERSE TRIGGER MODE WORKS AS ADVERTISED

This, along with the control modules, was the big one for me. When I saw that CES demo, visions of playing the Uncharted games or Killzone 3 with a controller setup that I got used to playing Halo, Gears of War and Call of Duty on danced through my head. I just prefer the feel of the Xbox 360 controller for this generation of consoles, ESPECIALLY for first person and third person shooters. This controller came through in fulfilling my vision. I caught myself playing 3 hours of Uncharted 3 when I meant to only test games 20 minutes apiece because everything just felt so "right" to me now. Killzone 3 also was a highlight; I'm going to definitely go back to that game now.

FACE BUTTONS ARE WELL MADE

The iconic Sony Square, X, Triangle, Circle face buttons feel great; not too mushy, not too firm, and not "clicky". They don't feel cheap, which was a major concern of mine. Most third party controllers don't make the extra effort to make the face buttons feel good like console manufacturers do: This one does.

CONTROLLER FEELS SOLID, GOOD BUILD QUALITY

This is just one of those things that you "feel". It definitely feels like a quality piece of hardware and has some heft. The nice thing is that it actually has modular magnetic weights, in case you want your controller to feel a little heavier or lighter. The detachable controller cord is also very heavy duty, with a mesh sleeve and a heavy-duty screw-on connector.

MAGNETIC CUSTOMIZABLE FACE PLATE

If you're into that sorta thing. It's neat, but not one of the driving forces for my purchase.

***CONS***

D-PAD QUALITY NOT UP TO PAR

Ugh, really? This is probably my biggest disappointment with this controller. If there's one thing that has majorly annoyed me about this console generation, it's that the D-pad quality (ESPECIALLY on the Xbox 360!) is awful. Unfortunately, these d-pad modules follow suit. The PS3 d-pad that comes with this controller is DEFINITELY not as good as the Dual Shock 3's, while the 360-style d-pad is slightly better than Microsoft's stock d-pad. Sadly, this leaves you in a bit of a lurch when it comes to most fighting games and other sidescrolling games (like platformers and other indie games on PSN). I tried playing Super Street Fighter 4 Arcade Edition and it was awful. I had the 2 d-pads set up side by side on the left so I could directly compare them. The 360 one was just as bad as ever (seriously, why even put this one in the box) while the PS3-style d-pad was "Ok". But I'd much rather use a real dual shock (or better yet, a FightStick) to play Street Fighter with. At least Mortal Kombat played pretty well, but that's because I think that fighting game is very "tappy". Maybe Tekken would have been good too. I don't know, I'm not a Tekken fan. Yeah, yeah, you should get a joystick if you're going to seriously play fighters, but you know what? When you spend $100 on a gamepad controller, I think it should do everything well. Maybe this problem can be corrected with better D-pad modules? I don't know. I hope so.

CORD LENGTH

Maybe on average 13 feet will be enough for people. Unfortunately, it was about 3 feet shy for me. I had to use a USB extension cord. Madcatz has said they will offer longer cords, but that's going to be more money on top of a $100 controller. Just get a USB extension cable if you came up short, like I did.

SHOULDER BUTTONS FEEL CHEAP

It stands out in stark contrast to the rest of the controller's build, but the shoulder buttons are VERY "clicky" and don't feel very solid. The right bumper got a little better (had to break it in?) after about 7-8 hours of game testing.

FACE BUTTON ANALOG WONKINESS

As good as those face buttons feel, I can't tell if they have analog functionality like the Dual Shock 3s. If they do, they're overly sensitive or something. The easiest game to test this on is Metal Gear Solid 3 (now conveniently repackaged in a PS3 HD collection!). When you are aiming a gun in MGS3, you can slowly release the button to release lower the weapon without firing. If you have an enemy solider in a chokehold, you can also either firmly press the button to slit their throat or you can slowly let the button go to safely release them. I could not replicate either of these actions on this controller. So, buyer beware if some of your favorite games use the analog nature of the face buttons.

***OTHER NOTES***

These aren't deal breakers to me, but they might be to some people, so I thought I would list them.

-The controller's shape is clearly modelled more after an Xbox 360 controller. People who are in love with the shape of Sony's Dual Shocks might be disappointed.

-The controller has no vibration functionality.

-The controller has no motion control Sixaxis functionality.

-The controller is not wireless. MLG and Madcatz stated that they wanted to eliminate lag for competitive reasons. It doesn't bother me, but it might for some people.

-You can't turn the system on by pressing the home button, even when it's plugged in. Probably because it's not wireless? I'm not sure.

There may be more cons than pros, but the pros are HUGE in my opinion. I no longer have to worry about using a controller I don't like to play PS3 shooters, or opt for the 360 version of a game just because of a controller preference. However, $100 is a LOT of money for a controller. When you're spending that much money, it's justified to demand perfection. So this controller isn't for everyone. I will definitely keep on using it though, especially for action & shooting games. The things I would like to see improved are a GREAT D-pad module so you can play fighting games and other old school games on it, and maybe a way to customize/swap out the face buttons. Other than that, this is a great start for Madcatz and they continue to impress me with their new approach to controller manufacturing.

Best Deals for Mad Catz Offically Licensed Major League Gaming Pro Circuit MLG

I really want to like this controller. Build quality is much better than I expected, even at the premium price. The thing just feels solid. I play on both consoles, but more so on the PS3, so the feel of the controller isn't as awkward to me (although a dual shock user may feel differently). Being able to change the layout to my preference is a pretty nice feature (I currently have it in a PS3 layout with a mix of analogue sticks). Buttons feel like OEM, triggers are good, bumpers are clicky (kinda loud actually). The texture on the rear is nice and grippy. And the weight system just adds to the solidness. As others have stated, the PS3 style d-pad is not as responsive as the 360 style d-pad (not a big deal in most fps), hopefully they'll address this in future add ons.

Now, my only real issue so far...

The analogue sticks. This is the main reason this controller peaked my interest. Having gone through countless dualshocks (about 5 in 3 years), it was always the same issue. Too much sprinting in COD created a groove on the shaft of the left joystick which eventually lead to sticky movement and eventual failure of the L3 button. I've tried to replace them with another product called modsticks which are really great as they are machined from aluminium, however they really start to hurt your thumb after long gaming sessions. So now I have this controller. The analogue movement feels good and the click response is solid. It doesn't seem like it will have the same issue with the shaft, and if it does wear down it can be replaced. My only issue so far is adjusting to the sensitivity. Maybe they just need to be broken in, but they're not as loose as a stock ds3 controller, so it has somewhat affected my accuracy. I can't seem to compensate for it through the sensitivity settings in game either (usually play at 5, dropped down to 3-4 but it's still throwing off my game). I'll keep playing for now and see how it goes, I know I can adjust, but the process is frustrating.

For all those who are hating on Madcatz for their reputation, this controller does not apply. If you've had a chance to play with a tournament edition fight stick, you'll know that they are capable of producing quality.

Honest reviews on Mad Catz Offically Licensed Major League Gaming Pro Circuit MLG

The design of this controller is very good, however I have a few issues with the controller to date:

1) The D-Pad has issues with mispresses. I can sometimes be pressing up and it accidentally presses up + left or up + right. Happens with the PS3 and Xbox style gamepad components. It has caused me to lose battles in BF3 because this can switch you to your secondary slots by mistake.

2) My R shoulder button broke after a week of use (mushy instead of clicky when pressed). This is key to using the PS3 pad, as that is my main fire button. Unfortunately, I have had to send it back to Mad Catz to be fixed under warranty.

Otherwise, the controller feel and precision is great. I do find that there is an improvement over the standard PS3 pad once you get used to it, but these nagging problems with the controller (d-pad and broken buttons) force me to give a detrimental score to it.

Beware Mad Catz has not worked the bugs out of this controller yet. And I am going on a month and a half now of waiting for my repaired controller to be sent back to me. I will certainly come back and revise my review if Mad Catz fixes the issues with this device. I am also surprised that MLG would put its name on a controller when clearly it isn't up to MLG high standards.

This controller is amazing! I have an xbox 360 and a PS3 and I prefer the 360 controller by far. It's nice to be able to configure the PS3 controller to the 360 setup. One of the most annoying things about the PS3 controller (other than the placement of the analog sticks) is having to aim and shoot with the bumpers instead of the triggers. The MLG controller fixes that in a very user friendly fashion. You only have to hold down the select and start buttons for a couple seconds and it switches the aim and shoot mechanic from the bumpers to the triggers. I can't tell you how much I love that! I play with my PS3 much more now because I have this controller. It feels substantial in your hands as well due to the weights it comes with. The fact that it's wired isn't an issue either. All I did was bought a USB extension and it extended the length of the wire for me. I have an 82' mitsubishi TV and my game/theater room is rather large (by most standards), so I need to sit pretty far away from the TV (about 12 or 13 feet). The USB extension extends it enough, so that there's plenty of slack between the PS3 and where I sit. Once again, I love it and I can't praise it enough. If you're on the fence, give it a shot and establish your own opinion. I was a little if-fy about whether I wanted to purchase it or not because of some of the reviews on this website, but I'm glad I tried it for myself. I would have missed out on an awesome peripheral otherwise.

First of all, I'll just state that I'm reviewing this based on the Xbox 360 version. I preordered FGN3 based on my enjoyment of FGN1 and downloading all of the games that didn't come on the disc, and I loved them all. But for Family Game Night 3 ("FGN3" from here on), if you loved all the previous games, you'll be disappointed with all five of these. Why? The previous ones were faithful reproductions of the games they were named after, and all of them added *options* to switch up the rules/game settings in case you wanted something a little bit different. Battleship, Yahtzee, Connect 4, etc., were all extremely fun to play alone or with friends. The games included in FGN3 are all unfortunately very disappointing, and none are faithful to the games they were based off of. Allow me to explain...

Twister: 0/10 -

The very worst of the bunch. It has *nothing* to do with the actual game Twister, and they merely decided to use the brand's name to increase sales. I was of course very confused and interested for how they could creatively transfer Twister to a video game. I imagined, maybe you'd get some crazy finger-twisting moves like "left thumb X button, right pinky left trigger", and so on, until a player failed to do whatever the game requested. Could you cheat at such a game? Sure, but I really think it could be a fun idea with a few friends who are actually playing by the rules. But instead, they didn't even attempt to make the game Twister-like.

You start by choosing a song, there are two songs to choose from in each category (Pop, Disco, Funk). Then, you'll see a button sequence come up that you're supposed to repeat. "A X B", then you hit "A X B" in rhythm of the music. Then you get a four-button sequence like "B B X Y", then five, then six, then the game is over. For anyone who has played a video game before in their life, these button sequences are all very easy and you'll get a perfect score every game, making any competition completely dull and end up in a tie.

Mousetrap: 0/10 -

Whether you're playing this with a friend or a computer player, the game is ultra tedious. In the real game, 90% of the fun of this game comes purely from building and setting off the mousetrap. The real mechanics of the gameplay were never very fun to begin with, so when you just watch a virtual mousetrap being made and set off, you take away the fun part of the game and the game you are left with is merely "roll the die, hope you don't land on the mousetrap." There is no depth to it. But the real tragedy of this game that made me give it a zero out of ten? Each time you "build" part of the trap, you have to take a two minute detour from the real game and play a super lame mini game. In the mini game, you try to build a network of pipes to route a ball through. How well you do determines how many trap pieces get placed on the board. This mini game is where you'll spend about 80% of total gameplay in Mousetrap, which is why I say this game is tedious. The only positive thing I can say about this game is I like the sneaky, mouse-like music.

The Game of Life: 6/10 -

This is one of the only reasons to buy FGN3. Though boring with computer players, the game can be fun to play with a friend. Unfortunately, as with all games in FGN3, this one also does not match the real-life board game. It's a lot closer than the others, but there are quite a few features thrown in that greatly hinder the game's enjoyment. For example, there are game spaces you can land on that let you sue another player for up to $100,000. The person getting sued has to waggle the control stick back and forth for like 20 seconds to argue his case to the "judge". The faster you do it, the more your bar gets filled up which indicates how successfully you're arguing. Even if you max out the bar, you still end up paying the other player like $15,000. There are many examples of additions like this that add nothing to the game other than being annoying. Every time a player gets married, you have to take a 5 minute detour from the game to play the "Twister" mini game (yes, the one I reviewed above). Again, another "feature" that slows down the game and is ultimately just annoying to wait for. Even if the player gets zero points on this Twister mini-game, you still have to pay them a $5,000 wedding gift ($15,000 for max ponits). It's game mechanics like that which make the already-boring mini-games even more pointless, because you feel like your score on the mini-game has such an immaterial impact on the game as a whole that you'd rather just skip it. Ignoring all the annoyances that were tacked-on to the original game, it's still fun to try fighting over the best careers, salaries, and houses and seeing who can amass more money over the course of their "Life".

Clue: 6/10 -

Again, the basic idea of the original game is here (find who the murder is, which room it happened in, and with what weapon), but the core of the game is significantly altered in a negative way. The way in which you play this game as opposed to the traditional Clue game, is by landing on question mark squares across the hallways of the Clue mansion. There really is no reason to even enter any of the rooms (you can, but it's strategically a bad idea with how the game is structured). When you land on a question mark square, you'll get "rumor points". Either it will just give you 1-3 points and end your turn, or it will make you play another (boring) mini-game to win from 1 to 3 points. Each time you get to six rumor points, you can make a mock-accusation and find out if any of your guesses for person, place, and weapon were correct. When you get them all right, you can make an official accusation in the poolroom to end the game. So this game has the potential to be sorta fun with a friend, but not half as fun as the real game, and you'll feel like you're missing the point of the game by only going around seeking question mark squares to land on.

Yahtzee Hands Down: 4/10 -

Card version of Yahtzee, only much less fun. You are forced to play with four players always, meaning you'll probably be with some lame computer players, because you'll have a hard time finding four human beings in the same room at the same time who are all going to be willing to play this with you. Basically, you get five cards (instead of using dice) and just try to get whatever the middle of the gameboard says to get. So if it says, "Four of a kind" you keep choosing cards to discard and redraw them each turn until someone gets four of a kind. But there is a time limit before the objective changes. So almost every time a Yahtzee card shows up, you'll have a lot of players get to 3 or 4 of a kind until the Yahtzee card expires then asks you to get a run of 4 instead. Frustrating.

As with previous FGN games, each game has a "remix" mode. I'll briefly go over each one.

Twister: Still the same exact boring game, don't bother with either version of this one.

Mousetrap: Although still not that fun, remix version is much better than the standard mode for this game, and you'll avoid the horribly tedious minigames that plagues the other version. The gameboard and layout are completely different. It's almost a whole new game.

Life: Instead of getting money, you'll get to move forward a certain amount spaces that corresponds with how much money you *would have* gotten in the standard version. The farthest person on the game board wins, instead of the person with the most money (there is no money at all in this version). Less fun that standard mode.

Clue: You'll have the same dice to see how far to move with each turn, but you'll also get to roll another die which does some dramatic things to the game to keep it interesting. Example: Someone gets killed by the murderer (removing that character from accusations of course), or getting to lock someone in a room for a turn. This mode can be fun, I'd play it about equally as much as the standard mode.

Yahtzee: Just alters the speed and flow of the game a bit, but neither mode for this game are really that fun anyway.

Conclusion -

Family Game Night 3 is a big disappointment if you loved any of the previous Family Game Night releases. It suffers from too dramatically altering the original gameplay of each game, with no options to play a more faithful remake of the original. If you're looking for a good casual/family game, I would highly recommend the original Family Game Night if you don't already have it. Otherwise, this one might be worth it when it hits the clearance bin in a few months (for under $20).

I have got all the Family Game Night games from XBL and have enjoyed most of them so this was a must. I had about 7 adults having a blast with Life. Clue was a little tricky at first but a lot of fun. The Remix is the best way to play. Twister was a little disappointing. It's more of a DDR type of game then Twister. Mouse Trap was a blast playing with 4. Remix was ok but original is better. Yahtzee hands Down is frustrating but a good frustrating if that makes sense. Overall at a $40 price its worth picking up if you're a fan of the series. Plus each game has a remix mode and some are really better then the original.

Life 8/10

Clue 9/10

Mouse trap 7/10

Yahtzee Hands Down 7/10

Twister 3/10

Best Deals for Hasbro Family Game Night 3 - Xbox 360

I bought Family Game Night 3 to play with my wife. We tried all the included games and our favorite is The Yahtzee card game. The rest of the games are ok to play every once in a while, but not as fun as Yahtzee. The big let down of the game is the requirement to have a controller for each player. If you have more than 4 people in your family then someone is going to have to sit out.

Honest reviews on Hasbro Family Game Night 3 - Xbox 360

The only games of value are Clue and Life, otherwise the other three are not fun or enjoyable. You can't just start Yahtzee hands down and play straight away. The game makes you feel like you're rushed. Twister is not a game that translates well as a video game at all. Not worth playing at all. Mouse trap is very repetitive and just seems like there's no skill at all to play. Save your time and money and look elsewhere for a fun family game.

Like many things, the second and third are not as good as the original. It has fun games, but the original Family Game Night is by far better.

I've had this game for about a week now, and after putting in many hours of play I thought I'd put a quick "first impressions" review up, and then update it later on. Just a bit of background: my last version of PES was 2009 for Wii and I've played it almost continuously for the several years I've had it. The control that Wii interface gives you is pretty amazing and addictive and it's easily the best sports game I've ever played.

Other than different menus, the first thing I've noticed is that the physics of player movement and momentum have been updated to be more realistic I haven't played any more recent versions, so this may be the same from last year. It's subtle, but it's unmistakeable and a big improvement, IMO. You can now run after a ball heading toward the sideline and stop & control it, rather than just running out of bounds as in PES 2009. Not always, but these world-class athletes now act more like world-class athletes. Another big change is that when holding Z to pressure the player with the ball, your defender will now sometimes knock the other guy over. Mostly this just results in a free kick, though I've gotten a couple of yellow cards and one very frustrating penalty kick in the 89th minute to lose a game. I guess the lesson is that you can't just hold Z forever at some point the pressure is too much and your defender steamrolls the player he's pressuring.

I primarily play Master League and that's the only part of PES 2013 I've touched, other than to edit the EPL teams to their proper names. Champions League is now integrated into Master League (finally!) and you can rename the FA Cup to the FA Cup (which you could in 2009, but for whatever reason it didn't make the change within Master League).

Now, here's my big disappointment: there is no more second division. You start in the Premier League, and there is no relegation. WHY, Konami, WHY? Ideally I would've loved them to put in MORE lower divisions, not remove them altogether. Why not give us 50-60 teams from each country, then we can edit them as we like and set up whatever level of promotion/relegation we want? It seems that this wouldn't be that difficult since it was already there to one level in past versions.

So, what this means is that when I start with a team of unknowns (which is how I like to do it) you now have a 1.5 star team playing against EPL squads! In the past my low-quality team would've been in the lower division playing against better-but-still-middling competition. Makes it pretty tough to get any progress going. I cut as much of the dead wood from my team (it seems you start with a bunch of guys with really poor stamina so many of them are useless) at the January transfer window, traded an aging striker (with poor stamina) for a much better goalkeeper, and was able to get a couple of good midfielders, but no improved strikers. With limited funds to work with, this has put me in only a slightly improved position for the remainder of the season. But that's ok. Progress is being made and it shouldn't be too easy. But I had bids for 6-8 different strikers rejected. Oh, and there are far fewer "bargains" to be found. No more young strikers waiting to blossom for only 250 points, etc. Overall the players seem more expensive which makes sense, I guess, if we're only dealing with top division teams. So far with my slightly upgraded team but with still far too many poor quality players goals are hard to come by, so I've got a lot of 1-0, 0-1, 0-0 & 1-1 results.

One new feature (to me, anyway, it may have been there in the past) is that you can now take free kicks from a "behind the kicker" perspecive and choose the arc/curve of the ball based on the kicker's abilities, of course. Kind of cool, and it's nice to have a bit more control on free kicks.

So, overall, I think this is a big improvement. I don't know if it's a big change from 2012, but that's part of why I don't buy the update every year for sports games usually the small changes don't justify the price. But this is only $20, so kudos to Konami for that. I'm very happy with PES 2013 so far. The gameplay mechanics are unchanged, for the most part, but the feel of the gameplay has improved for the better. I can't wait to get some better players up front to see how that helps.

A couple more quick notes: the in-game graphics are pretty much the same, maybe slightly better, but there's only so much the Wii can do. (I'm looking forward to a Wii U version) The cut-scene graphics are improved, mostly in the fact that the player models are more varied, and they've done a better job of making famous players more recognizable, though many players now look vaguely cro-magnon.

Lastly I think the AI is much improved. AI is one of those effemeral things that game companies like to tout and give fancy names to, but I think Konami have actually done something here. In 2009, even at the highest difficulty level, defenders would sometimes just move out of your way. Now they mostly position themselves intelligently and make it much more difficult to get off a clear shot. They crowd the box, they hound you constantly, they make intelligent passes, they will play to open space, and keep the ball moving. Plus they dive in the penalty box or at least that's my take on it. A penalty in the 89th minute! It had to be a dive! :)

UPDATE 12/29/12: So I'm still enjoying this game. I've now upgraded my team and I'm leading the EPL just past the January transfer window of my second season. Negotiations are much tougher than they were in 2009. Most offers seem to get rejected, but that's probably more realistic oh, and I have all of the Master League transfer settings at their defaults. One last note on AI: it's improved, the box is often crowded with defenders. It's tough to get a cross to your men in the box, shots and passes are blocked much more frequently and you really have to work to find open space. Still love this game, still disappointed by the lack of a second division.

This is from my son who is 10 yrs old and loves to play, watch and play video-games with soccer..

This game is very good. The graphics are great, and there are many more features in this game than FIFA for WII, like in PES, you can go straight to penalty shoot-outs,(instead of having to play a full game, like FIFA) also you can choose the order of your pk takers, and free kickers. This didn't matter to much, but Chelsea F.C. and Arsenal F.C. are called London F.C. and North London F.C. And their jerseys are differnt, but what matters is that the players are all there with their numbers like Chelsea's new signing Edin Hazard, and Arsenal's new signings Lucas Podolski, Oliver Giroud, and Santi Cazorla. The graphics are also incredible, and what I like is most players has it's own playing style, like for example, in PES 2013 WII, when Cristiano Ronaldo steps up to take a penalty kick for Real Madrid and Portugal, he stops at the last second like in real life. The controls are good, but in my opinion, there are too many controls. Almost every control is used for gameplay like 1 and 2 and plus and minus.

this game is pretty much the same as 2011 and 2012. there really needs to be some changes to make this a little more comparable to the versions on other consoles.

the online/multiplayer part needs to be fixed. searching for an opponent is really inefficient and it doesnt even tell you how many people are online. if a party quits the game before it ends (especially towards the end when they are losing) it doesnt count negatively towards them or indicate that for future match ups.

Sonic Adventure 2 Battle is one of the best Gamecube games ever. I got it about 2 months ago AND I'M HOOKED ON IT!!!! It's so good, I just broke my wrist and STILL playing it. Heck, I'm gonna go play it after I write this review. If your a gamer who likes high speed games, you'll love it. If you like a great plot, you'll love it. If you want a slow and easy game, you'll love the chao raising system. Of course you will have to go through the levels to get the items requiered (My spelling is horrible...) to do it. The Battle system isn't all it is cracked up to be. Each one lasts about 30 seconds. Unless you're doing a race battle which takes about 2 minutes. The hero and dark story is a nice twist on the gaming world. Save the world, or destroy it? (man my fingers are starting to hurt from typing...) The bottem line is...it's worth every penny. If you say this review wasn't helpful, well it should of been. If you say yes, I'll write a beginning walkthrough to get you started-and hooked-on Sonic Adventure 2 Battle.

This game is Awesome! I never thought I'd be playing Sonic on a Nintendo console but he seems right at home on the fantastic Gamecube! I haven't played the Dreamcast version so I can't compare the two but the graphics for this version are amazing! there is so much detail and it's soooooo fast! When you start your main game you have the choice of playing the hero side with Sonic and friends or the dark side with Shadow and co. this makes the main game even more interesting. The multiplayer is also allot of fun there are seven mimi games three of which have to be unlocked (I'm still trying to get the last one) my favourite is racing down the city streets it's a blast literally!

This is one of the must have titles along with Smash Bros. Melee for the Gamecube. Like it predecessors it's a classic already.

Who would have thought that after the long Sega Vs Nintendo feuds that Sonic the Hedgehog would finally grace the Nintendo format?

Mario, Luigi and Sonic sharing the same hardware. But does "Sonic Adventure 2: Battle" live up to the hype?

Firstly 12 playable Sonic characters are on this game. The makers of this game give you lots of sonic for all the year's they've deprived us of it. And they deliver it in story mode (1 player) and multi-player battles.

There are 2 sides that you can play on, 'Hero' or 'Dark'. One trying to save the world, the other trying to destroy it. This is an excellent feature as it gives you double the game time. And don't worry about wondering if they're the same levels just with different characters, each side has its own storyline and own levels. The Sonic team did not skimp on missions. Also when you finish both the 'Hero' and 'Dark' one last mission pops up in the middle of the two. An extra stage indeed.

The multiplayer in this game is good also. You can do 3 categories: Shooting, racing or treasure hunting. The racing levels are the best as it allows you to go through past levels Versing your friend while attacking each other. This is depending on how many rings you have, the more rings, the better the attacks. A multiplayer game you earn is that of Kart Racing. Just like Mario Kart except with Sonic characters.

But what you do when you've finished the game and there's no one to play in multi-player?

Well, The sonic team have added their own versions of Tamogotchi called 'Chao'. You feed them, nurture them, teach them and make them grow up to either be Evil Chao or Good chao. A lot of fun can be had and it passes the time very quickly as you can also make chao fight or race each other.

The sound in this game is not what I would have hoped for. It puts voices to all the characters and its not even in synch. One problem I also found with the voice overs is that the characters cut each other off.The music in the background is also tedious as its bad 80's rock with annoying repetitious choruses. This was the main con of the game.

The graphics are good, clear and precise although they could be more sharp. But you don't really notice the graphics when your running 500 miles per second down a bridge road.

The camera in this game definitely needs work as it has a habit of getting into very out of the way angles which its effect is killing you as you can not see where you're going. But it is tolerable.

The storyline itself is also divided into 3 sections. Shooting, Racing and Treasure hunting. The sonic/shadow (racing) levels are the best but only take up 30% of the entire game. The shooting levels are tolerable with Tails/Robotnik but are pretty much just button mashing. The hunting levels with Rouge/Knuckles aren't as bad as people make it out to be. I found all the emeralds pretty easy it just takes patience. Everytime you win a stage you get an emblem which adds to your tally, if you get all 180 emblems you get a level of the old sonic 2 game.

So overall, here's what the game offers.

Pros:

12 characters from the Sonic series on the Nintendo Gamecube

Can play on the 'Hero' side or the 'Dark' side

Chao (Like tamogotchi)

Multiplayer

Lots of Gameplay time

Cons:

Music

Lip synching

Not enough sonic stages

Camera angles

Overall its a good game where the good outweigh the bad. I suggest you rent it first and see if you like the gameplay. Especially if you've never played Sonic before. But this game is definitely for the Sonic fans out there.

It gets 4 out of 5 stars.

Honest reviews on Sonic Adventure 2 Battle - GameCube

Sonic the Hedgehog used to be a huge hit for the Sega system. Now that Sega isn't a competitor any more, the GameCube has picked up this star and expanded its gameplay.

First, for normal gameplay, you now get to choose from a good or bad team instead of just one character. Each team is made up of 3 individual characters. You can be the "good guys" Sonic, Tails, and Knuckles. Or you can choose to be the "bad guys" Dr. Eggman, Shadow, and Rouge.

Each team through stages in their own path, and the end result of each path comes together. The stages are fun to play, as the various characters have their own styles of missions and quests.

In addition, there is also a multiplayer fighting mode. You can do an Action Race battle where four sonic-like characters (each with their own strengths and weaknesses) get to race along tracks. There are treasure-hunt races, and shooting battles.

For some, the best part are the Chao parts of the game. A chao is a little creature you raise from an egg. Depending on how you raise it, the creature can turn out good and loving, or dark and evil. You can then race your Chaos or let them karate-battle each other. It's your own little GameCube Black-and-White Creature!

Definitely a game with something for everyone, whether your gaming addiction tends towards racing, fighting, or creature-rearing!

Actually, I will give it a 4.6. There are a few detractors to this game, namely the camera angles and the fact that the BGM is so darn loud during cut scenes...

Otherwise, I don't know what to say. The game is campy and hilariously so. I'm not saying it's like the "Plan Nine from Outer Space" of games. The levels are totally rad. The controls are great and easy. The game is challenging, yet it is never stupidly hard (except for the Final stage...and Final Chase which drove me nuts because it would have been easy except for those blue blob things!!). The chao are disgustingly adorable; I could watch them for hours (castinets!). All in all, more entertaining than a Golden Girls marathon (best show ever!).

Yet, it is still campy. The storyline is cheesy and like something you would see on MST3K (starring....JOE DON BAKER as DR. EGGMAN!) but that makes it all more loveable. Doesn't Eggman have a job or a life outside of persuing Sonic and pals? Poor bloke, no wonder why he's tripped his trolley.

The voices are funny, especially Tails. He sounds like Degrassi Jr. High reject (Tails: Soonic! Have you seen my Cyclune yet? It can rilly fly, eh?) and Rouge reminds me of Sami from Days of our Lives. Also, be sure to listen to the Japanese voices!

The funniest parts come in the lyrics to the Knuckles raps. "I know that it's here, I can sense it in my feet!"--never has anyone rapped that passionately about a anthropomorphic red echidna. The "rock" songs are so cheesy and 80's, they should have been performed by Starship or Mr. Mister. Rouge's songs all sound like someone held Burt Bacharach up at gunpoint and forced him to compose video game music (not that there is anything wrong with that).

I love the two-player mode. My favorite character is thereTikal! It only really, really bugs me that you can't compete against the CPU! Oh well. The "desktop" themes are cute, too.

While not perfect, I think you get a lot for your money. I have not played a Sonic game since Genesis and I always thought the cartoon(s) was(were) wonky. It's nice to see the Sonic Team crew again. All in all, this game is cooler than the Fonz and Orko, driving down the Autobahn in a Delorean with Lawrence "Chunk" Cohen in the backseat, blaring Kraftwerk out the window.

I can and can't recommend this game. It takes hours of dedication, but once you really get into it you will surely dedicate thousands of hours of your life to it.

You fight about 6 different hostile alien races: the famous Zeta Reticuli race is here (called "Sectoids" in the game); there are reptilian aliens ("Snakemen"); creepy death look-alikes with awesome mental powers ("Ethereals"); and tough jock-types ("Mutons").

You have armored vehicles at your disposal (but--so do the aliens), and even though you start with puny Earth-weapons; as you shoot down, recover, and research alien technology your engineers will be able to build base facilities, aircraft, tanks, weapons, body armor, grenades, EXTREMELY high-explosive missile launchers--and even equipment for MIND CONTROL--based on alien technology.

At the end of each month, you're given a progress report. Nations decide if they should increase your funding, decrease it, leave it the same, or pull out of the alliance all together and try to strike a deal with the alien races.

The ground battles themselves are played in a chess-like state. However, you can only see the areas of the map your troops have explored. Everything else is shrouded black. During the computer's turn, the screen only shows the blinking words "Hidden Movement," unless a soldier spots an alien or is fired upon. The "board" is divided into (I think) 124x124 squares; each one square taking 4 "Time Units" to cross.

Each group of 25(?) squares is given it's own unique attributes such as barnhouses, hills, cropfields, etc., so you'll NEVER--I, in 6 years of playing, have not--come across the exact same map twice. The aliens are also positioned randomly through the map, so check your flanks!

The average soldier starts with 50 TU's. However, shooting takes between 15 & 45 TU's (depending on weapons used & type of shot--aimed, auto, snap etc.). Basically, everything--reloading, throwing stuff, turning your soldier's head--takes TU's. But, as your soldiers see more combat, they can get as many as 81 TU's, which is quite helpful. They also gain health units, stamina, strength, bravery, etc--BUT keeping a soldier from the first mission to the final assault on the main ET base where the alien's collective mind, "the Brain," is kept (in the Cydonia region of Mars) is pretty much impossible. You're fighting a well-trained opponent!

What's more, you battle not only alien occupants of ships you have shot down, but aliens that land in major cities to terrorise the population, alien bases scattered around Earth, and even aliens that locate & attack YOUR base. It's not all fought on farm land in Idaho!

The musical score is a well-crafter combination of military marches and techno-beats; the creepy musical score playing while you fight ground missions is by far the most fitting for such a scenario.

There are a few videos in this game. The two outstanding ones are when you win the game and when you lose. When you win, no indication is given of Earth's future state. Do we acheive peace on Earth? Do we forget all that we've been through & return to our old ways? Unknown. You are shown the Mars base exploding, and your brave soldiers flying back to Earth cheering. Then you are returned to the main menu. Did the designers intend to create such a profound "happy" ending?

The video when you lose is more straight-forward, but still goose-bumpy: Three alien battle-ships hover over the UN building. Inside, the floor is bare of representatives except for a few humans sitting at a table across from two "Ethereals" and a "Sectoid" commander. There is no talking, but the message is chillingly beautiful in it's clarity: most of the world has given in, and it looks like the last fighting nation is following. As the humans & aliens communicate telepathically, several aliens burst through the door, place a plasma rifle to the head of the human leader, and pull the trigger. The "Sectoid" across from him is next seen splattered in the man's blood. Proof that the aliens do not make deals--deals in the sense that we know them--and a taste of what the aliens have always had in store for us: extermination.

This game is no longer in print, apparently because most people saw it as "too intelligent." If you happen to find a copy online...CONSIDER buying it. _I make no promises that you'll like it_. It's called a boring & tedious game by the few critics it has. I consider it an highly challenging work of art; one that shaped my teen years. You won't look at the world the same way after playing this enough hours. I would be another person were it not for the day my best friend John was playing X-Com on Playstation, I looked over, and said "Hey, that game looks kinda cool. What is it?"

Click Here For Most Helpful Customer Reviews >>

RTS games did not exist when X-COM was released (or least I have never heard of one from that era) and good stratagey games were even harder to find (I could be corrected by a MOOR fan). When it was released, X-COM became the reason I invested so much in video gamming. The computer AI was nothing special, but the other little touches like surprise fire from windows and "Fog of War" (to name only a few) overcame the AI's weakness and forced you think about who to put with who and where on every mission. Fire teams, fire teams, fire teams. If you want to live through a mission, deploy in fire teams of no less than two with mixed weapons and always have someone under good cover, ready replace fallen members. If you just can't get out of the 80's and 90's when it comes to video games, and you long for those old, great strategey games, then this one for you.

A few years ago PCGAMER made a list of the greatest PC games of all time and suprise, suprise guess what game topped the list? X-Com UFO Defense, and it well deserved it.

The game, even when played today still shows it's greatness. I've logged probably more then 1000 hours of gametime playing X-Com and it's many sequels over the years since it first released and the gameplay still amazes me.

If you love strategy games and for some reason haven't tried X-Com find a copy of it. (The PC version is WAY easier to get a hold of then the PS1 version and is a better port of the game anyway) If you loved games like Final Fantasy Tactics, C&C, Warcraft or less recognizable classics such as Dune 2 and the more recent Disgaea Hour of Darkness then you owe it to yourself to see what you've been missing.

As with the details the other reviews do a great job so i'll just leave you with this I've played just nearly every tactical combat/rpg ever made and X-Com is by far the best.

Honest reviews on X-COM: UFO Defense - PlayStation

Buy this game! You won't regret it.

I'm not a fan of strategy games. I've never been into Populous, Civilization, Command & Conquer, or anything resembling. However, I can't stop playing this game. Every year I pick it up and start playing it again.

You are at the helm of a multinationally funded UFO defense team. Your goal is simple, protect earth from the oncoming insurgency, and ultimately seek and destroy the source of the invasion. Aside from the strategic turn-based combat sequences, you will control all aspects of the administrative efforts. Sink your fingers into the purchasing of supplies, design of bases, hiring and firing of personel, the armament of your aircraft (for shooting down UFO's) and MOST IMPORTANTLY, which alien technologies to research and incorporate into your arsenal.

Combat sequences boast a fully destructible environment, a rarity in classic gaming! Need to get down to a lower floor? Blast a hole and drop down! If there's a tree blocking your view, turn it into kindling with a well placed shot then take aim at your newly exposed enemies. You can even level a hill if you have the firepower! The designers should be proud, they thought of everything.

If you try this game you will discover a new love.

So your mission in each stage is to retrieve as many bananas. While going through insane looking puzzle mazes, filled with hazards such as: conveyer belts, gorges, spikes, winds and more! You guide your ball (monkeyball) with out falling over the maze and reaching the finish line in time. The concept is very simple and the game very addictive! You can also play any of the twelve (12) mini-games included, such as; baseball, golf, bowling, shooting, boat racing, tennis and more! Each mini game can be played by yourself or up to three other friends and it is fully customizable. The mini games are a lot of fun and add lots of replay value. It's like you are getting several games for the price of one! The game is challenging for adults and good for kids because there is no blood or real violence in the game. Get it today!

I first played this game on the Game Cube and was surprised to find out how addicting it is. Who would have thought that piloting a monkey in a plastic ball through suspended mazes would be fun? And yet, it proved to be one of those rare games that both adults and kids enjoy. Plus, the bonus party games are fun to play, either with others or by yourself. The Xbox version is great, too, because it includes all the content of Monkey Ball 1 and 2, plus extra boards.

My son's Dad brought this back from Army training and at first I laughed at him. Then we had Margarita night (our son was on a road trip with other family) and played Monkey Golf, Monkey Mini Golf, Monkey Racing, and Monkey bowling till the next thing we knew the sun was coming up. We had four grown, responsible adults laughing and having a great (if loud) time.

When our son returned we did it all over again (just without the Margaritas).

This is a game that ANYONE can find something to play and it all makes you laugh. I like to watch the little monkey golfer hitting his golf ball that he happens to be standing inside.

I own both of these games for gamecube, butthe xbox version has so much more. Additional boards all the boards from the first two, all the multiplayer games from the first two. All this for 30 bucks score.

This game is a lot of fun to play, it's a good single-player game, but even more so are all the multi-player games, from tennis (singles or doubles) to baseball, bowling and others, it'll definitely be worth the money.

I have every one of the last 4 series. Slight improvements. Would recommend if want this, but the NBA rosters changes so much, I'm getting tired of buying one every year. They should have updates or patches so we don't need to buy a brand new game every year.

I got this cable because I move my Xbox or ps3 from my to my girlfriend's house and got tired of bringing the cables to her house, and my girlfriend has a Wii so no more cable hot seat I thought. They work perfectly, no weird anomalies, and the cables feel solid. The Xbox connector even has the optical out on it, which microsoft's cables lack.

Unfortunately if you have more than one console plugged in at the same time the audio goes quiet, so I'll have to switch physically between cables when I want to play a different console.

Overall very satisfied with these cables. They can sit in my bag for if I visit a friend's house.

glutton of multiple gaming cables to a bare minimum & about half the price as a local solution. Showed up early & everything worked great

Does exactly as indicated. The connections fit properly, unlike the previous product I bought (the S-Video connection was designed to small); however, I haven't had issue with these yet. Cables are long enough to travel throughout the entertainment unit, plugs fit without sizing issues, and the picture fidelity is what you'd expect it to be.

it does work for all three systems, not all at one of course. S-video connection for my front projection tv

This was the cheapest cable that I could find that was made by a company that I would trust. It works exactly as I expected and it is a noticeable improvement in video quality for my Wii. The only reason I got this is because I wanted to play my Wii on a LCD monitor and it has either a composite input (the yellow plug that comes with the Wii) or a S-video input (this product). I was unhappy with the quality of the composite input especially when it came to the text. This cable sharpened the text to a manageable level but it's still not perfect. If I had the option on my monitor, I would have gotten a component cable which would have been the best available for the Wii. If you have a Xbox 360 or a PS3 and would like higher resolution I would recommend a Component or HDMI cable instead. I am happy with this product because it does what I expected it to, it's not the best solution, but it's the only solution for my situation.
