These are great because I have little kids who like to put their own DVDs in the player and of course get fingerprints or worse all over them. So this is a way for them to be independent and for me not to be paranoid about their hurting the disks. Having said that, there does seem to be one drawback. The skins work better on new or unblemished disks. If the disk is already a little scratched, the device seems less able to read the disk with a skin on. However, I have never had a problem with a new disk. So it may be that the skin does add a little interference which only serves to magnify any problem the disk has. I still give it 5 stars because it's such an awesome product.

I bought these in hope that they would be the great thing that they are advertised to be. They weren't! First of all, when using them on an Xbox game, it GREATLY slows down the game, to the point that it is unplayable. When I tried to use these in my laptop, they were a no go! It wouldn't even read the disk and it sounded like my laptop was an airplane taking off due to my cd drive frantically trying to read the disk to no avail. On a desktop computer, it will read some data disks with the d-skin on it, but it's slow. You won't be watching an mpg or vcd movie with the d-skin on for instance. I don't know how well they work on a cd player with musical cd's, but anything else is definately out. Since I am an mp3 man, I have no need to play music cd's, so I haven't tried them. I wish these worked as promised, I REALLY do, it would be a dream. Perhaps someday this idea will be perfected and then I can give FIVE stars instead of ONE!

I primarily use these for music CD's and they are great. I was hesitant about putting it in my CD player because it's a 6-disc in-dash changer and I was worried it would get stuck or something. It didn't and I now use them on all of my cd's, One 20-pack cost the same as it would cost to replace one scratched CD. Overall a great product.

Honest reviews on D_Skin 20 Pack (DVD/Game/CD) - PlayStation

I decided go give these D_Skin protectors a try, even though there have been some pretty poor reviews. I've had no problem with them. I've put them on a bunch of my favorite DVDs and tested them on my Sony Vaio Laptop computer, and my Sony 5 disc DVD player, and an old Sony DVD player ( 5 or 6 years old) and it works fine on all of them. It does not work in my XBox. The XBox finds the disk unreadable with a skin on.

Seems a very nice way to protect my favorite and most expensive or hard-to-replace DVDs.

okayb first off i just got this today so far its half good and half bad it plays my ps2 games pretty fine a little noise on some but not enough to effect the way it plays for use of ps2 games in the ps2 slim when ps2 slim is modded 5 stars i don't know if it plays in the slim when the slim ps2 is not modded, i tryed to play dvds in my modded ps2 slim with d-skin's on and it won't read the disk and i put it in a new dvd player it would not work so for use of protecting your dvds on a mac dvd player ps2 or laptop 1 star. for use of protecting ps2 games 5 stars... one of the reasons i rated this 5 stars i because its the thing that protects it while it plays

This is probably the best of the Lips offerings thus far for overall singable/fun music. A good selection of songs from 60's, 70', 80's, 90's and 00's. Most of the songs have the original videos which is cool, especially of you grew up in the 80's with MTV. Some of the oldest songs (60's and some 70's) do not have videospresumaby because they didn't have videos then! In those cases Lips plays still images of the Artists in a slideshow-same as with previous versions.

There was no song listing on Amazon or Xbox's Lips's product page..so here it is...

If you've ever played Lips games before, then this game should fit well like an old shoe. For those who've never tried it ... essentially Lips is the Xbox version of Singstar on the PS3. You get (mostly) authentic videos which you can sing to your hearts content. Basically it's a very awesome karaoke machine for your video game console.

As for the song choices in this game, I definitely liked it more than previous versions. I felt this time around there were more "good" songs that can easily light up a room and provide a few hours of quality entertainment for yourself or a group of friends. I also liked how they improved this game this time around by making it more focused on getting good scores and certain achievements as a result of it. I can't tell you how many times I sang "Every Rose Has Its Thorn" (I know, don't laugh) just to master the song and get on the top of the xbox leaderboards. This aspect of the game is definitely a highlight of the current Lips game that I felt was absent in previous installments. I definitely felt more addicted to the notion of constantly trying to improve my singing to get on the leaderboards, whereas in the past I used to just sing a song and move on to the next one without much thought about technique. This time around because the game automatically compares your results with the global leaderboards it definitely provides an improved sense of motivation to sing well.

Or if you're just a casual player, the song list is a nice collection of 80's and 90's dance, pop and alternative hits that most people who are music lovers during that time (like myself) would be familiar with. Whether if its "Let's get it started", "groove is in the heart", "friday i'm in love", "I will survive", "word up", "true faith" or "unchained melody" there definitely seems to be a nice sampling of songs that I think will get most music lovers off their chairs and singing away in no time.

One gripe I definitely have with this game is the fact you can't export your songs from previous Lips games. Like the issue with the previous installment, which people complained about as well, I see the same problem with this game. I am able to play the games from the disc, and also on my DLC library. However, if you want to play songs from other Lips games, you have to bring the disc and load it over. Kind of a pain in the butt, and frankly with the ease of exporting in the Rock Band and Guitar Hero series, Microsoft should really incorporate this element into the Lips series so you can have all your songs in one master list.

Otherwise, this game is excellent. For casual players, I'm sure you'll have fun and feel a blast of nostalgia when watching old videos from the old days. I know I enjoyed watching the 4 non blondes and had a real mind trip back to my college days. For the serious gamer, you probably already know that Lips (and Singstar) games are less forgiving when it comes to hitting vocal perfection when compared to the Rock Band series, so if you're really into hitting those notes and getting uber high scores for bragging rights, this game shouldn't disappoint either.

I have had every Guitar Hero game and love that we can sing with them now, but as a woman it is hard to sing a lot of those songs. Lips does a good job of having a variety of songs. I like that you can watch the music video as you sing. There are two ways to follow the words also, which helps. When playing in a co-op some songs are split in to 2 different parts, with a background singer. Sometimes that can be harder to follow but it just adds a challenge. I now have all 3 Lips games, and am looking forward to new ones. There are hundreds of songs available to buy on Xbox live. I spent $10 on points and bought 5 songs. So that can put into perspective how much the additional songs cost. On Party Classics, there are more songs that are typical to karaoke. My friend and I make margaritas and play these games all night long!! The only bad thing is those microphones from all the other singing games do NOT work with Lips. You have to have the Xbox wireless mics, that are usually $25 each. This game said you can use other mics (I have a wired Rock Band mic with the controller built-in $45) and I could not get it to work. It would catch a few words but that was all. So if you are looking to start with Lips I suggest buying the bundle that comes with the microphones. (Lips comes with 2 and Number One Hits comes with 1)

Honest reviews on Lips: Party Classics - Xbox 360

Okay, I own practically every karaoke game for the 360, including Karaoke Revolution 2009, RB/LB, nearly the entire Guitar Hero and Band Hero series, and the entire Lips series (Lips, Number One Hits, and now Party Classics).

After being very disappointed with the original Lips, Number One Hits restored my faith in the product because it was Lips but polished in every way. Plus, Number One Hits had a much better song list than the original Lips.

I went into this thinking that Party Classics was just a song pack. But somehow, Party Classics is somehow software-wise weaker than Number One Hits which confuses me. The menus seems to move a little less smoothly than #1 hits. I still can't get the media center support to work with Lips. it would be awesome to have the thousands of songs i have in windows media center be instantly available in Lips. maybe it takes a really long time for Lips to detect all those songs but there's no progress bar or anything so i gave up after about 20 minutes.

there were some additions to the software, especially support for USB mics! but i had problems getting the USB mics to work with the wireless mics simultaneously. when i wanted to sing with usb mic, it was inactive and only the wireless mic was active. the menu for selecting which mic to use is confusing and i kept getting error messages. so i ended up doing the hokey pull-out-batteries-out-of-wireless-mic when i want to use the usb mics and then put them back in when i want to sing with the wireless mics.

also, since I thought Party Classics was a song pack, I thought you could just start singing. but it was really off so I had to resync the mics. for #1 hits, the autodetection determined it as 78 ms. for party classics, it found the lag to be 125 ms. but while the wireless mics sounded pretty good in #1 hits, they didn't sound good in party classics. i had lag problems even with autodetection. and the sound of the voice through the mics had the same artificial quality that was in the original lips.

this is where the usb mics shine. i tried the guitar hero mics and it sounded so much better than the wireless mics. i haven't tried my karaoke revolution mic yet (logitech) but i expect those to shine as well. i was able to hit multipliers that were unheard of with the wireless mics. however, the usb mics are gimped in terms of scoring because you lose the free points that the wireless mics offer by shaking them. if you're competing against someone and have really good vocals, you can overcome the free points that the wireless mics get. otherwise, it's hard to ignore the points. yeah, MS, try to make everyone favor the wireless.

also, MS partially fixed the disc swapping problems. if you're playing party classics and want to play a #1 hits song, you swap to the #1 hits disc and as long as you keep choosing #1 hits songs, there's no disc swapping. and once the #1 hits disc is in, the songs are marked differently so the #1 hits songs become the default songs and the other songs are marked as other disc songs.

however, if you want to play a song off the original Lips disc, you have the constant swapping again.

one last bad thing. this problem is becoming a problem again for me. in a game like Karaoke Revolution 2009 or Band Hero or Rock Band or Guitar Hero, you can easily know how to adjust your pitch and you feel like a stud when you can nail it. if you're singing too high, the on-screen indicator clearly tells you that you need to go lower. if you're too low, it'll tell you to go higher. however, in Lips Party Classic, it's still like the other Lips games. if you nail the pitch, you see it. but if you're off, it's hard to tell whether to go higher on the note or lower on the note. it just shows as a fuzzy miss. so you kind of sound like Tarzan as you're going from high to low to try to figure out what pitch the song wants.

but to finish off the review on a good note, the song list is just sick. plenty of awesome songs to sing. all the cheesy love ballads that I imagined singing to a girl are here. To Be With You. classic. this is a really good song list and a lot of people know these songs. and you can't help but laugh at some of the songs. songs that professional singers can pull off. but songs that people who don't have perfect pitch that sound crazy funny. songs like i touch myself. it sounds sexy and playful and funny when the divinyls played it. but when average people sing it, it's gut busting funny.

as always, the song library for the lips family is huge and awesome. they just need to tweak stuff to make this a truly great product. they need to find a way to fix the pitch bar. it's still much harder to read the pitch and the lyrics at the same time like in the other games. i know they don't want to copy the other games but sometimes copying is not such a bad thing.

In this 3rd sequel to the Lips franchise you get a lot of classic songs. From 60's to 70's to 80' to 90's and songs for 2000 and beyond. I love the Lips games. I think they are soooo much fun. You can have awesome parties with this game. you get all kinds of good old music. There are songs that most people would know. You also get some not so popular songs (well I think so) in this game. All in all this is truely loads of fun. so I do recommend this game to anyone who loves to sing. Great for parties and great for the young and old.

I thought that a movie based on a fake video game based on real video games was a great idea, and that turned out to live up to all its potential. I thought that a video game based on a movie based on a fake video game based on real video games had real potential; this game lived up to none of it.

I was going to offer a well thought-out review for this game, but this review is only going to reciprocate how much effort was put into developing this game.

The game starts with Wreck-It Ralph narrating the game the voice actor isn't even John C. Reilly. This is the first disappointment of the game, and the disappointments never stop from there. Before actually getting into gameplay, the opening scene completely blows the end of the "Wreck It Ralph" movie's storyline, so if you haven't seen the movie yet, beware of a spoiler before playing this game.

After they spoil a 2-hour movie in 45 seconds, you finally get into the gameplay. The gameplay is awful: the difficulty is never raised, there's only 12 levels in the game (each level takes about 5 minutes to complete), and 4 bosses (each of which take about 2 minutes to beat). The gameplay is extremely repetitive and completely lacks novelty. The graphics are cheap not "NES cheap," which would actually be kind of retro but cheap like "I paid $5 for this game" cheap. Except, the thing is, I didn't pay $5 for this game. I paid $40. The iOS "Wreck-It Ralph" counterpart is a better game than this, and that only costs 99 cents.

Despite being able to play as Fix-It Felix and Wreck-It Ralph throughout the game, it's only a 1-player game. The movie featured first-person shooting, arcade-style play, and racing. This game offers none of that. Instead, you just go around punching cy-bugs until you find the exit for the level. Along the way, you try and gather Hero's medals which do absolutely nothing for you. They don't even keep track of how many you've collected.

I sat down to play this game because I had a couple hours to kill, and figured I'd try and put a dent into beating the game. Instead of putting a dent into the game, I completely beat the game and "unlocked" all the secrets in well-under 2 hours. That's right, the movie itself takes longer to watch than it does to beat its video game counterpart.

I can't believe I spent $40 on this game. If you're thinking about buying this game, instead use your $40 to buy 4 tickets to see "Wreck It Ralph." It's a quality movie, but its video game is anything but. I'm disappointed in everyone that was involved in this game. They should be ashamed of themselves. And as disappointed as I was initially in John C. Reilly for passing on doing the voice acting for this game, now I understand why.

Firstly, Wreck It Ralph is a great movie with some great games featured in it this game however is not. It vaguely follows the plot of the movie but AFTER the end of the movie. I don't think the beginning of the game would spoil the movie for you, but if you played this game first BEFORE seeing the movie, you might not even bother to watch the movie because this game is awful. It's nothing like the movie, it's so basic it's ridiculous. It's not even retro as in Dig Dug, Pac Man, Digger Dan etc from the 80's THEY were great games, this is not even particularly playable and it certainly isn't any fun. My 5 year old was bored in about 15 minutes which almost never happens except with a bad game (or in the case of Mario Party 9, they changed the format from single player to all playing in the same vehicle, which ruined that game).

If you still want to get this game after the low stars it received in all of the reviews so far, then rent it from a Redbox etc, you won't be wasting $40. This is a $10 game at best. It will probably be a Black Friday special but don't get it unless it is super cheap, your kids won't thank you at all.

Best Deals for Wreck-It Ralph - Nintendo Wii

The storyline of the video game is that Fix It Felix and Wreck It Ralph have been hired as exterminators to get rid of the Cy-Bugs in the worlds of Wreck It Ralph, Hero's Duty, and Sugar Rush AFTER the end of the movie. The game play is like any 2-D platform game (Super Mario Brothers, Sonic the Hedgehog, etc.) where the character moves from left to right and destroys boxes and collects golden hammers. We were expecting the games from the movie like the first person shooter in Hero's Duty or the go cart game in Sugar Rush. Instead, those locations are only used as the backdrop to the platform game. As a one player game you must switch between the characters of Felix or Ralph to move through levels.

As a platform game alone, I like it. Its not one of those games that makes it impossible to advance to the next level unless you have perfect hand-eye coordination. Its easy enough to be fun but not so easy that it's boring.

But I must say that it is extremely disappointing that the games shown in the movie were not even attempted in the movie version of the game. In fact, you can go to the movie website and play limited versions of 3 of the popular games shown in the movie. If you are looking for the movie games, save your money and go to the Disney website. If you like platform games, it's cute and not too bad.

Honest reviews on Wreck-It Ralph - Nintendo Wii

Wreck-It Ralph has to be one of the most beloved Disney films of recent times. It's a movie that's directed straight to people that have grown up in the 1980s (although it appealed to kids as well), and seen how the arcade game industry has changed overtime. The movie was full of laughs and references, but featured a really deep and thrilling tale of a video game bad guy who wants to get a new name for himself. So what does this game based off the movie based off of games have to offer? Absolutely none of what I just described.

The game is supposed to take place straight after the movie's plot, but it IS possible to avoid spoiling the movie, right? Unfortunately, Activision refused to try. Within the first seconds after starting a new game, the ending of the movie is instantly spoiled. But since I'm so nice, I won't spoil it for this review. However, I will have to mention that the Cybugs, one of the few conflicts in the movie, is THE WHOLE CONFLICT here in this game for some reason. I don't want to think of Wreck-It Ralph as a series about hideous bugs. I want to think of the series as a love letter to gamers!

Anyway, that was all presented in this cute little CGI-animated intro which has mistakes such as a lack of textures in one scene and Felix having miscolored hair. Activision sure rushed THIS out the door. BUT GUESS WHAT? Wait til you see what the actual game looks like!

Oh GOD did things go downhill! The graphics look like they were created for the Sega 32x. They are downright awful, and the music totally accompanies them by playing a short loop of a song that would only sound nice the first few times. And now for what we've been waiting for: The gameplay mechanics.

Let's just say this is one of the most uninspired platformers I've played yet. Throughout, I am treated with really generic levels that only make the already not-so-great gameplay just plain boring and repetitive. Nothing in any of these levels truly stand out (Other than that one and only Super Mario Bros reference in the "Hero's Duty" world). The combat in the game is clumsy. It feels very tedious when it takes some time for Ralph to throw a punch or Felix to wield his hammer (Which, by the way, somehow kills enemies instead of fixing them). By the way, you know how I mentioned that the Cybugs are the main conflict in this game? Well, they are the ONLY ENEMIES IN THIS GAME, so there's no enemy variety, really.

Not to mention, even with the clumsy combat, the game is beyond easy as a whole. During my first run through the game, not once did I get a Game Over, but rather did I get over 13 lives. The bosses didn't help the difficulty. They were incredibly easy as well.

To think this goes for as long as...an hour and a half?

Yup. This is one of those games with a pretty short length. However, after what you've been through after playing this monstrosity, beating the game in such a short time is rewarding enough.

If you want to see a video game do Wreck-It Ralph justice, play the game that's available on iOS devices for THE PRICE OF A COKE CAN. It's $39/29 less, but 100 times more fun.

Is it possible to give negative stars??? I'm sure that some people want to after actually paying money for this game. Fortunately, I rented mine at Redbox and I'm still mad that I spent $2.

The game is super boring. An adult would never be able to tolerate it and a child would quickly become bored with it. My 5 year old has been playing for about 15 minutes now and I think he's waiting for the exciting part. I won't break it to him just yet that this is all he's gonna get.

I realize that this is a throw-back 80s style game but seriously??? The quality and graphics are horrific and perhaps intentionally!!! It predates the quality of the original Nintendo (that is as far back as I know). There are also times in the game where when you die the screen just blacks out for about 20 seconds. I thought that my Wii rebooted...and then it came back.

I loved loved loved the movie and it is sooo unfortunate that this game is such a flop.

Best advice.....Rent it and see for yourself!

I have this game for both systems. The 360 version was bought here on Amazon. And the PS3 version was bought 5 days before launch at a local mom and pop shop.

Online

Street Fighter X Tekken is a ton of fun. It really is. But it's cons are very difficult to overlook. First there is the situation with the online. In this day and age netcode is too important. The ability to play online against friends or even strangers from around the world is one of the reasons the genre has made a complete comeback. SFXT's netcode sacrifices sound in order to run smoothly. The kicker is that it still struggles to run smooth even when sacrificing this precious audio. If you rely on sound for hit and block confirms, just stay away.

***Online update*** As of 4/10/12, the sound issue has been addressed, but many have complained about increased input lag since the patch.

Local to online co-op a.k.a. couch co-op

Got a friend over and the 2 of you want to jump online and do some ranked matches together? If you bought this game on Xbox 360, it's not possible. I'm not sure about later, but right now as I write this review, the 360 version does not have couch co-op even though it's advertised to and is even in the manual. At first Capcom blamed Microsoft. Claiming that the 360 was not able to do it because of it's architecture. That was a blatant lie that they got called out on because MK9 among other games can do this very thing. Then they claimed the 360 version was never supposed to have the feature and that it being in the manual was a mistake. And now, at the time of me writing this, the latest "explanation" is that they were on a tight schedule and they made the "tough decision" to leave it out. Which means the whole time they intentionally kept quiet about it long enough to get our money and let us discover the mode was missing on our own.

Controls

Now I already had a SF4 Round 2 TE, but I was hyped about this game. So I picked up a SFXT Fightstick V.S.(which I'll also be doing a review for) and it works wonderfully. If you're an arcade stick user you've got nothing to worry about. But pad warriors beware. The game has a problem reading diagonal inputs from a pad. Quite often when attempting to jump towards or away from your opponent, you'll get a neutral jump instead. And you'll also get swept when you're trying to crouch block because it'll register as down instead of down/back. This is a serious problem and wouldn't have possibly made into the final retail build if the game had received any sort of Quality & Assurance testing. Taking builds to tournaments and having top players fiddle around with it on the flashy new arcade sticks you're trying to market does not substitute for Q&A.

Color Edit Mode

KoFXIII offers up an amazing color edit mode. SFXT does not. As of right now only 2 colors are available. The additional packs will supposedly be free. But even though they're on the disc, Capcom sees it fit to ration them out over the course of 2012 rather then just let us have our fun with the color options now. The majority will have likely moved on already by the time all colors are finally available.

Gems

I was in favor of the gems initially while everyone else was skeptical from the beginning. I saw them as a potentially fun mechanic if done right. Well, everyone else was right to be skeptic. When you've faced as many people as I have online using the auto block gem as a crutch to defend against what would have otherwise been solid mix-ups, it suddenly becomes clear to you why the community thought they were a bad idea, and why tournaments don't allow them at all. The gems take an already unbalanced game and makes it even more so.

Disc-Locked Content: The new meaning for DLC

If you thought what I said before was bad, it gets even worse here. Locked away on the disc that you've already spent your hard earned money on is a ton of content that Capcom intends to squeeze you for. There are 12 additional characters, costumes, more powerful gems, additional quick combos, and more colors for the edit mode. Here's an idea of just how bad Capcom intends to make you literally pay for your decision to get SFXT. In Europe the costumes have already went on sale. They are £0.79 each. Which is about $1 US. There are 38 characters readily available and 12 locked characters. That's 50 characters total. Each character has 2 alternate costumes. So if you want them all, that's $100 just for COSTUMES. That's not even counting how much it's going to cost you to unlock the additional characters. You're already paying more for locked content than you did for the purchase of the game initially.

Engine

The good: The Tekken characters utilize ground bounces. And the Street Fighter characters utilize wall bounces. If you pick one of each, you get the best of both worlds. The Tekken characters surprisingly fit right in. Some of them fight a lot like their Tekken versions(Kazuya), and some fight nothing like their Tekken versions(Heihachi). But Capcom did a wonderful job of capturing the essence and character of the Tekken cast.

The bad: Damage scaling on combos is so severe, it's as if you're penalized for getting good at the game. It's too easy for non stick users to accidentally trigger quick combos, and there is no way to turn this off. "Grey Health" regenerates too fast. That combined with the heavy damage scaling results in most ranked matches ending in a Time Over. And Pandora is an unusable mechanic. It's so weak, no one dares to even bother with it. If you trigger Pandora during a match, there's a 95%+ chance that you're going to lose because of it. Scarily, there are even more problems than what I've named. I just listed a handful.

Graphics

This game looks great! Everything is in the SF4 art style, but the characters have been touched up a bit. And characters that had to be built from the ground up like all of the Tekken characters, and some from the SF side like Poison, Hugo, Rolento, etc. look amazing. The stages all look great too.

Overall

A game backed up with lies and shady business practices from it's publisher isn't something that I can honestly recommend. It's a great fighter at it's very core, but purchasing it will just encourage Capcom to continue treating their consumer/fanbase like they're stupid. SFXT is a ridiculous cash grab masquerading as a fighting game. I can't recommend someone buy half of a game for $60 and then the rest of it, which is locked ON THE DISC for over $100. They didn't have time to make sure the 360 version had couch co-op. They didn't have time to make sure the online was solid for either console. They didn't even have time to make sure pad players could enjoy the game. But they did however have time to make content to lock away on the disc. In short, do not buy this game.

Wow, do I feel ripped off by this game! Believe the bad reviews. I do not care if they want you to buy stuff that is already on the disc, the game itself is horrible. I only play online, and the online is totally broken and unplayable: lag, dropped sound effects, dropped controller inputs, lack of options. You name it, Capcom screwed it up. I am putting this game aside for a while. Hopefully, Capcom will repair all that is wrong with this game through updates, and then I will reevaluate it. It's too bad, too, because Street Fighter and Tekken are probably the ultimate fighting game franchises... and Capcom took a big stinky dump on both of them.

Best Deals for Street Fighter X Tekken - Xbox 360

This game is a huge waste of money.

*First off the story in this game doesn't really exist just like every other fighter.

*Second, capcom has 12 characters locked out on the disk so you can't play as them until they officially release the DLC over the next 6 month period, in which you have to pay for the characters. You shouldn't have to pay for something that is on the disk. They are selling you an incomplete game. People found ways to hack and unlock the 12 characters and the company is now suing and getting Microsoft to ban those peoples accounts even though they are just using what should be theirs in the first place. Also, there was day one DLC for alternate costumes which pretty much only change the color of the characters clothes. If you were to buy every outfit it would cost around $100 extra.

*Lastly, Capcom is known for coming out with reprints of the same game. Street Fighter 2 came out at least 5 times. Street Fighter 4 came out and then 6-8 months later they came out with Super Street Fight 4, then 6-8 months after that came out with Super Street Fighter 4: Arcade Edition. This also happened with Marvel vs Capcom 3, now there's Ultimate MVC 3.

So unless you want to keep buying the same game over and over again, I would wait for Crapcom to release the Super, Ultimate, Give me all your money again edition of this game.

Honest reviews on Street Fighter X Tekken - Xbox 360

Capcom has released a full game and charged full price for 60% of it. DLC has become a staple of this industry and its not surprising companies are trying to add more content to keep the title played longer. This is the opposite. This makes me want to get rid of this game and not purchase the next one they release.

Ok, so I am a die-hard Capcom fan. Have been since I was seven years old playing Street Fighter II in an actual arcade. Never would I have imagined that I would be driven to the point of actually slating one of their products, but low and behold, Capcom seemed determined to sway me, and other loyal fans, to do so.

I purchased the 360 version of Street Fighter x Tekken. I was mad before its release when I found out that it was going to have less characters than the PS3/Vita versions, but Capcom placed the blame for this on Microsoft through lack of communication, so I empathized and proceeded to buy it upon its release, even though it was still exactly the same price. Upon the purchase, and although even the instruction booklet that comes with the game lays out the set-up for it, there is no local co-op on the 360 version. So all the hype about 4 people playing at once? Sorry, not gonna happen on this version.

Wanna know what else? The 12 supposedly DLC characters that are being added to the roster of the Vita version this fall to "celebrate" Street Fighters 20th anniversary, are already on the disc. In full. On all versions. What does this mean? You buy the game for retail, with all of this content on the disc, just locked. How do you unlock them? You pay them more money for characters that you've actually already paid for. Nice.

Capcom's repsonse? There are numerous responses, each one digging the lie deeper. It's even to the point that Capcom officials are calling its consumers "whiners" "moaners" "cryers" "entitled gamers." Yes, Capcom, I am an "entitled gamer." I am entitled to the content that's on the disc that I already purchased!

Anyways, this disgusting marketing ploy is probably why the price is already starting to drop just a little over a week after its release. I was overly enthusiastic about this game. I wish game makers who actually care about the fans had produced this game. The one who did obviously doesn't care about his franchise.

Unfortunately, there were no recent reviews of Lord of the Rings: Conquest when I bought two copies to explain that Electronic Arts stopped supporting online play for this title back in March of 2010. More dissappointing, Amazon continues to advertise that it does have online play and none of the vendors add a note of warning. It also appears after a lot of investigation and trial and error, that there is no way to even use multi-player over a LAN so you can use your own monitor. Co-optimus states that it still has this feature, but I think they have not updated their information either. Without this feature, the game becomes practically worthless, at least to me (and to many others if you google the situation). Now I have to deal with trying to get a refund for a misrepresented product. Here's my warning to you.

Pandemic, the maker of Star Wars Battlefront has given its familiar engine a facelift and have taken it to Middle-Earth. To be honest I was never really a big fan of Star Wars: Battlefront having been more accustomed to the solitary lightsaber battles of the Jedi Knight series but at least to me the Battlefront concept just seems to work significantly better in the Lord of the Rings universe. I downloaded the demo and couldn't wait to play the full game because it's just fun as hell.

In the Singleplayer campaign you can pick your character class: Warrior, Mage, Archer or Scout and hack and slash your way across the battlefield by rallying your troops in basic "Capture the Flag" strategic objectives or destroying specific tactical goals to achieve victory for your armies. Occasionally you can play a character from the movies such as Aragorn or Gandalf depending on which character class you have currently selected when more "experienced" reinforcements are called upon. The nice thing is that you can change your character class mid-game so you are not always restricted to certain classes/abilities though it is prudent to know when to select specific classes for certain campaigns. For example, a Scout may be called in because of his ability to render himself invisible to sneak past enemy lines, or an Archer would be better suited for ranged attacks. The Mage is very powerful with his staff and can smack down hordes of enemy orcs in close melee or can fire ranged lightning strikes, toss fireballs, and heal wounded troops to bring reinforcements back up to full strength. The Warrior is very powerful with a sword in hand for close action melee and can quickly plow through enemy hordes with a spinning firesword or throw axes for ranged attacks.

The graphics are stunning in HD along with Howard Shore's awesome thematic score playing in the background and Hugo Weaving (Elrond) narrating the game really puts you into the action of the epic battles of Middle Earth first hand.

The Multiplayer campaign allows you to connect with up to 16 players or you can just do a two-player splitscreen co-op with a buddy. You can also choose your side, Good or Bad and change the fate of the ring by destroying Frodo and the Shire by fighting for Saruman's forces, the Lord of the Rings equivalent of turning to the Dark Side. And now you can download expansion packs through the Playstation store to add other characters/classes such as Boromir, Arwen and Gothmog as well as new campaign arena maps like Weathertop and Amon Hen.

This game is mandatory for Lord of the Rings fans and even for the casual players who just want to hack it out, I'd recommend the no-nonsense Instant Action and Deathmatch campaigns. Conquest easily blows away EA's titles, even though I enjoyed playing Lord of the Rings The Two Towers on PS2 which I went back and breezed through again for old-time's sake, Conquest makes it look like a warm-up exercise by comparison. The Battle of Helm's Deep in Conquest is similar to Two-Towers but vastly improved for next-gen gameplay. Plus you get to battle at Minas Tirith, Isengard, and all the way to the Black gates of Mordor in the War of the Ring campaign.

Lord of the Rings: Conquest is one game to rule them all.

Best Deals for Lord of the Rings: Conquest - Playstation 3

I think this game achieves most of what it promised to be. It's fair to call it a 'hack n slash' game. I'm a big fan of the Star Wars: Battlefront series. So far as that goes, you can see how Pandemic has started with that system and progressed it in a few ways, and this, in the LOTR setting, seems like the next logical step. Also, it is a lot of fun, and creating the dark storyline accounting for what would have happened if Frodo failed was quite enjoyable. So I enjoyed both campaigns, particularly the splitscreen with my brother. Pros of the game for me would be playing as just about everyone from the Naz-gul and Balrog to Aragorn and Ents. Also the evil storyline. And the mindless hack and slashing is quite a trip. Just fun to wreak havok and go to town on a bunch of enemies. One big con for me was that it doesn't tally your kills or really keep track of your deaths like Battlefront did. I really like saying to a friend after a weak performance, 'where the heck were you on that one' or if I underachieved to try all the harder to bounce back the next time. And no mentions of 'most kills', or 'most accurate' after the level is over. I really missed that not being there. Also playing as some of the heroes was not all it could have been. It was great but some like the Balrog and Ents are destructive, but so slow I think a lot of destruction and mayhem are unfortunately left on the table. Maybe there is no way to fix that, I don't know. Overall, I thought it was easy to pick up and play. It gave clear goals to focus on, and I think it was a logical progression in the series. I was not sure how they would adapt Battlefront from a shooting style game to a hand to hand style, but I think Pandemic pulled it off. After kills you can pick up small health increases (bigger for bigger kills) and a second meter that builds to unleash more vicious attacks. People complained about no unlockables, which is a valid point, but with enough good content in the game from the start, I didn't miss that as much. I do prefer Battlefront's paintball style way of keeping score (i.e. letting you know how many guys you have left vs. the enemy's total tally) to the Conquest style which is more like 'every other game'. You know you've got 3 lives or whatever to finish the level. That 250 vs 250 style was one thing that made Battlefront stand out for me. So anyway, this is a great game. I think most would have fun with it, especially recommended for those who enjoyed the Battlefront games, hack n slash style, and like the LOTR books/movies.

Honest reviews on Lord of the Rings: Conquest - Playstation 3

I recently rented this game from GameFly. If you're reading this review, hopefully you know that the online play is no more, which is sad. I got this game hoping it was going to be like the Lord of the Rings: Return of the King, a game I loved playing on my Nintendo GameCube. I enjoyed the Return of the King because it made hack and slash fun, you got multiplyers for good, excellent and perfect kills. You often had to fight through hordes of enemies and aside from your main weapon, you had bows and arrows and stuff like that, you could also pick up spears and stuff and the game really added a variety and spice to the gameplay.

In Lord of the Rings Conquest, you have four different classes to choose from: warrior, archer, mage and scout. Each has their strengths and weaknesses. You can also play occasionally as a hero that often falls into those various categories. You rack up hits much like in the previous LOTR hack & slash games and you have strong, medium and light attacks and you have various objectives much like the last one, opening doors, claiming positions, protecting things, collecting things, killing baddies and always heading to the next arrow.

This game looks ok. It really disappoints actually, it's nothing special to look at. The recreation of locations looks much like movie locations which is quite something, but the locations are EMPTY. Battlefields looks EMPTY. I can't believe no other review I've read has stated this. This game is NOT EPIC, IT'S EMPTY. I was running around like a crazy person in the Battle for Helms deep LOOKING FOR ORCS TO SLAUGHTER. The game doesn't give the feeling of overwhelming odds and there's more enemies when you invade the Shire then at other key times like the Battle for Helms Deep or the Fields of Pelennor.

You don't use too many of the various classes, you end up just using like the warrior and using the same combo/moves over and over (I realize this same argument could be made about many hack and slash games). But it's boring as heck, and the only thing that helps make this game fun is the occasional break where you get to be some kick-butt dude like Sauramon, Gandalf, Aragorn, Legolas, an Ent, a Nazgal and my personal favorite, the Balrog. These moments are shining examples in the game that stand out from the time you're that faceless/nameless grunt that will probably die a hundred times by a hundred deaths.

Let's hope that the Lord of the Rings: War in the North will give us a real Lord of the Rings game that will make us proud.

This game is really fun and cool. This game actually is set up very much like the Star Wars Battlefront series. I like the way it is played. You have certain point in which you have to either defend, or attack. In doing so, you earn checkpoints. These checkpoints allow you to change your character in the middle of the game. In certain parts you get to select a Hero for battle!! The great thing about this game is that you can actually play as the enemy. So, you have the choice of being the good or evil side. The graphics are incredible. The music and the sound put you into the action. The voices of the characters are really cool as well. The controls are pretty easy, although there are many different combinations that you can perform using your weapon. It is a very challenging game and learning each character's attack is essential. For example, I couldn't beat Sauron using Gandalf, or an archer or scout because I wasn't used to playing as those characters. I ended up beating Sauron using a warrior. Which I played most of the level with and so I was used to using.

I think you are a Lord of the Rings fan, this is a definite item to put in your collection. Also, the PS3 allows you to download the upgrades to the game to further enhance the experience.

The game also has a cool multiplayer game where you and another player can be on the same screen fighting the same battle. Or do a head to head battle.

I have not yet played on-line, but looking forward to trying it once I get the hang of the game by completing the many levels of difficulty.

It says it works on Mac OSX, it shows the mac version of the game, and yet when I opened my package I found the windows version inside. Now I'm waiting for a refund, lord only knows when I'll get it, and I'm stuck paying more for the game elsewhere. If you have a mac, be aware that this is NOT the place to buy this game from. They're far too incompetent to be able to get you the right one.

The authorization code is in the box, on the back of the GTA San Andreas manual. The game works fine and is a lot of fun. As far as I can tell, the only thing that doesn't work is auto-targeting, but I have been able to pass most of the game using manual targeting.

I had the same problem with the activation key (as the other reviewer). There was an activation key on one of the manuals, but it didn't work. When I contacted 'product support' they asked me to send in a photo of the activation key, but their firewall wouldn't allow them to receive it (Ha!). But they said that was the ONLY way they could help. Finally I just posted the photo to Flickr and they could see it, but they were still paralyzed. They would tell me they were calling back within an hour, but they never did. It's been three days and still no satisfaction. I checked around on other retail sites and found others having the same problem. I'd say don't waste your time with this purchase. GTA is an awesome game, but there are serious issues with running it on your Mac.

while inserting disk for first time you must download 8gb (i think its wine) and afterward you must insert the cd in order to play. graphics aren't great. gameplay is difficult due to controls (thats just line any computer game though). its 1 disk with all 3 games; this might not be ideal for traveling as cds have nearly gone out of existence and cd drives too especially in macs. if you are willing to carry a cd its worth it specially bc of price. it comes with manuals and also maps which is awesome.

I purchased this trilogy for $7.99 but would also have paid more.

It's a great bundle of the my favorite GTA games (3, Vice City and San Andreas)!

I have a 2012 MacBook Pro and all three games work perfectly fine!

It comes in a sealed trilogy DVD-box with all the manuals and poster-sized street maps they used to sell with the original CD boxes.

The code is on the backside of the San Andreas manual and registers all three games one at a time.

Great deal and works perfectly on my mac!!

It seems the more you read people talking about this game they either love it or hate it. I fall in the middle. I am just a casual gamer I play every now and then at night or on weekends, but I don't spend every waking moment with a controller in my hands. So take that into consideration as I make this review.

Overall I think this a fun game. I have been playing Mortal Kombat games for a long time now and I find this one just as enjoyable. I think the mix of character is nice with some of your most popular MK characters with some of the most recognizable DC comics heroes and villains.

The gameplay has been tweaked a bit since the previous MK game, but it is nothing that you can't adjust to, and overall I think it offers more character control. The special moves or super moves as called in the game are a fun mix too with most of your favorite moves form you MK characters kept in with a mix of a few new ones to keep things interesting.

We do have a return of the preprogrammed fatalities, but they have been toned down. No more dismemberment, decapitation, or removal of vital organs. This may be a big deal for you, but I don't require a high level of gore to enjoy a video game.

As far as I can tell there are no hidden characters in the game, other then the unlockable boss characters. So don't expect to find Reptile or the Martian Manhunter. But like most Xbox 360 games the game will support downloadable content in the future. But when new fighters show up is up to the video game publisher.

If you are trying to chose between the kollectors edition and the basica game save your money. The comic book that comes with the game is a quite small and almost just like a pamphlet and does not really add anything to the story. There is a small poster and a making of dvd. but you will probably be able to see all those videos on youtube before too long.

So a hardcore mortal kombat fan or gamer may not enjoy this game too much as it comes up short on gore and hidden characters. But the game still presents and interesting storyline and a chance to play as some of your favorite DC comics characters. I have it I enjoy playing it and hope to have fun with friends playing as superheros and undead ninjas.

Despite reading a lot of negative previews and thoughts from game magazines and Mortal Kombat fans, I was very interested in this game and decided to buy it anyway. I am not a big comic book reader, but I like superhero games, movies, and the characters themselves. That is the main reason I wanted this game. I used to be a big Mortal Kombat fan as well, so everything together made me want to get this. Anyway, I think it is great. It is a ton of fun. The graphics in the characters and arenas are amazing, very clean looking. The gameplay is fun. I kinda suck at it, a little rusty in fighting games, but it is still a lot of fun. The fatalities may be a little watered down, but I think they are still awesome. Sub Zero will freeze an opponent, and then pounds him into hundreds of pieces. It's good stuff. My favorite character so far is Green Lantern. The free fall fighting and klose kombat features are fun, a little difficult, but fun. i haven't tackled the story mode yet, but will be starting that tonight. All in all, this game is exactly what I wanted: A great looking "pick up and play" game for when friends come over, that is fun, has awesome characters, and can be played forever. Pick it up if you like good fighting games or are a fan of either franchise.

Best Deals for Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe - Xbox 360

I haven't been a fan of MK since after MK II for the Arcades and Super NES. I've tried all the sequels but they just weren't for me, especially the last 4 for the PlayStation and PS2.

MK vs. DC brings this series back to it's roots and it's a lot of fun. The fatalities can be lame but they still do what they're supposed to give you closure to a hard fought victory.

The fighting engine is a little stiff but it doesn't hinder the game play and you get used to it relatively quickly. Besides, I found it more enjoyable that Soul Calibur 4.

Bottom lins is that the game is fun. I received it today and played through the arcade mode with Scorpion and I can't wait to play through it with the other 19 characters.

I hope Midway keeps this engine and fine tunes it for future MK releases. Here's also hoping that the next one is a mature game too. I like the DC characters though and this is a nice one-off game.

Honest reviews on Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe - Xbox 360

If you have been less than pleased with the most recent iterations of the MK franchise and would like a return to a more MK3ish kombat system (lol) then then this is the game for you. It does away with a lot of the silly and complex and memorization heavy aspects of the later MK games (stances and long and hard to memorize combos) and replaces it with more timing based skills. The game is a lot faster paced and is fun to play. It's rated T for teen, so don't be expecting a hundred rib cages to be busting out of anyone's torsos during the fatalities.

Find helpful customer reviews and review ratings for Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe - Xbox 360

Great storyline to tie in the two universes and explaining how the heck some of these overated powerful heroes could be balanced out to make this a decent fighting game. Personally I could've thought of a better selection of DC heroes that would've fit more into the Mortal Kombat world but overall they did a surprisngly great job for the selection of DC cast that was chosen.I had to change my block button to LT for better response time for me to block but other than that, all was good. A great fighting game for the holidays with minus the weapons from previous MK games but great gameplay and good to see the MK cast finally crossover to the next generation systems. Which I think was long overdue. This is a keeper for fighting fans!

This is probably my favorite game that I ever played on the Dreamcast. It is a very hard game at times(It took me forever to beat Wagnard the first time. Exploring every inch of the sixth level of the cold cave was also a doozy.)It also is a very long game for an action rpg. There are so many items that you can find. I have played it for a while and I still haven't found every one. It is definitely worth the time it takes to play through it though because it is a very fun game. I highly recommend it.

Record of Lodoss War looks and plays similar to Diablo I/II and Blood Omen. This means no annoying random encounters like most RPGs. There are two VERY cool aspects to this game. For starters, you are given your own castle from which you can explore the island of Lodoss. Using a spell, you can return to this castle at any time (similar to the Town Portals used in Diablo II). By activating portals, you can transport to different locations throughout the island without having to walk the whole way every time you want to traverse Marmo. The second great aspect of this game is the weapons/armor system. After rescuing Wart, a blacksmith, you can have him forge weapons for you and emboss magic runes onto your weapons and armor that will become NECESSARY for completing the game. My only complaints about this game are the graphics and sound. The sound of your boots clanking againt the floor can get repetitive at best and aggravating at worst. The graphics and sound are what keep this otherwise great game from earning 5 stars, in my estimation.

I bought this game only because of the anime series, I did not know what to expect at the bargin... So let's get to the point, I never played a game with so much depth and freedom to roam around. To me what was really cool is that you can put inscriptions on your weapons and armor. I liked the fact when your in an area, like most games and you kill anything and everything in sight and you leave and come back the enimes are not there and you can walk around and say to your self that's it,but in this game they were back ten times fold.To all my fellow gamers you should take up the the challenge of this great highly forgotten and wonderful game.

Honest reviews on Record of Lodoss War

You play as a hero from the past brought to life again thanks to Wart, one of the six legendary heroes of Lodoss. He warns that Wagnard, an evil wizard, plans on resurrecting the evil goddess Kardice. Your mission is to find and help different characters from the anime, such as Parn and Deedlit. You will notice that the story line is much different from the anime series, being that Karla is actually helping Wagnard in the resurrection of Kardice. After you briefing from Wart, you will soon capture a goblin fortress and become its ruler. Before entering into the fortress you will meet a dwarven blacksmith, whom you can name. Which leads us to the weapon system. It is excellent and unique. You will find ancient inscriptions all across Marmo, then you will be able to inscribe them into your sword, shield, helmet, and armor. Some inscriptions can give you resistance to spells and others might give you an advantage against golems. Your dwarven blacksmith will inscribe them for you, being that you have enough mithril. There are two sub-plots along with the main plot that will keep you busy for some time. The endings are also based upon your replies to the different characters that you meet. It is defiantly a Diablo styled game, but with a rich story and a unique weapon system. A must have game for Lodoss fans and Diablo fans!

... the boot's item description warns they are loud. In fact the monsters will be drawn by the sound of your boots, unless you're wearing softer boots. Also it is possible to sneak past monsters while wearing softer boots.

This game is a lot of fun, it really lets you customize yourself and has a great system. Graphics and CG animations are terrific. Now the downside: It's nearly impossible. I have never heard of and RPG where a level 99 character still dies in the outworld. But you will in this. About 3000 enemies ambush you from all sides and stand around you just pounding. Forget the fact that you can do 2000 hit points of damage, you can barely attack. The game is beatable, but if you are easily frustrated...well, you may end up breaking it.

Keep in mind, paid $8.96 for the game and drum set...

My take is this This game really isn't bad, just isn't as good as it's competitors.

Start with the drum set, I'd read nothing but bad things about it. I have to say, I disagree with all of them. The set feels tough, works well, and has one feature that I really like... The drumsticks rest comfortably on this set, well out of the way and won't just fall off if you nudge it. My 15 month old has given it quite a beating, knocking it over and such, still works great. Oh, this has the kick pedal of any of the drum sets I've used with game systems (and I've used all of the ones currently out there).

The really good about this game starts and ends with the drum set. Everything else is fairly average. Use drums and two guitar hero/rock band guitars, and that's your game. No vocals, in this one. Not sure what happened, there. Also, I believe the tracks are all covers, but they sound pretty good. Can't complain.

This game is the perfect starting point, to see if you like the music game genre. Low price of entry, all that.

But remember, before you know it, you have 4 drum sets and 8 plastic guitars in the house...

My original Rockband 2 drum kit broke, and I needed a new kit. After looking around and finding that new or used official kit was really expensive($125+) I decided look for some alternatives. I found this bundle for $20 and decided to try it. The drum kit looks nothing like the original Rockband drumkit, and it does take some time to get use to. This design is inferior to the original Rockband drums, and can make playing the drums on any level above medium very difficult(it can be done, but expect frustration) there are also issues with the responsiveness of the drums, but again, it is something that can be dealt with, just expect frustration on harder difficulity levels. The kit itself is pretty cool the frame is metal and I really like the pedal, the only thing that hurts the product is the nonsensical layout of the drums. I would suggest this kit to anyone looking for an incredibly cheap drum kit to use with friends whenever you have a couple of people over, but do not get this kit if you want to master the drums at the expert level.

As far as the game goes.... I never played it. I read enough reviews to know that I do not want the actual game anywhere near my 360.

Got this for my handicapped son for Christmas for a great price. He is a little hesitant to play because he has to get accustomed to it. But he is getting more accurate and seems to really like it. Easy to assemble, way better quality than I thought it would be, I suggest it as a fun toy to go with the Guitar Hero game(s) since the guitars can be used with this game and these drums can be used with some GH games.

I bought this because it was the Videogame Deal of the Day.

Big mistake. The game is 99% covers (not original Master Recordings) and the one Master is a Linkin Park song.

For parents or family shopping for an inexpensive music game as a gift: Please do your loved-one a favor and do not get them this game.

If you've read this far and still haven't run for the hills, the game is horrible. Graphics are sub-par and the cover songs sound like someone singing in the shower. Oh, the drumkit is shoddy and the note-highway is a vertical waterfall of jumbled mess. Just skip this poor attempt at cashing-in on rythm game popularity.

...you might want to give Urban Reign a try. Because, that's exactly what this is. A *FIGHTING GAME*. Many official reviews I've read online seem to be missing this crucial fact.

Urban Reign was not meant to be about intricate plotlines like an RPG...or freely roaming cities like Grand Theft Auto...or crazy side-games...or transparent distractions. It's emphasis is on the *FIGHTING*. And, there's a lot of fighting to be had in Urban Reign...after all, this is a tribute to the old beat-em-up days of Final Fight and Streets of Rage.

The best part is that you can get as involved as you want. You can button mash like a zombie if you wish, and I suppose that will get you a certain degree of success. However, if you are interested in going further, you will find a surprising depth typically lacking from the beat-em-up genre. There are special reversals, juggle combos, and (dare I say it?) STRATEGIES you must adopt to ensure victory. If anything, I believe the gameplay in Urban Reign takes this dormant genre in a promising new direction.

The single player experience will keep you busy for a while; unlocking many of the goodies requires you to familiarize yourself with the story mode. A warning: check your ego at the door. Story mode will own you. Period. The 1-on-4 whoopings will be frustrating, so if you fear challenges, steer clear.

However, the multiplayer experience is where the game shines. The action is fast paced and fairly intelligent...if you learn the nuances of the game, it probably won't get boring anytime soon. Especially with the library of characters, moves, and modes. Think Super Smash Brothers, but decidedly less cute...

Or if you don't feel like beating up on your friends, Challenge Mode allows you and a buddy to take on a series of computer controlled teams. It's not quite the co-op story mode we all wish for...but, it's a start...

Bottom line: Urban Reign is a FIGHTING game, first and foremost. All other aspects of the game play minor roles. No massive cities to explore...no intricate tasks to perform...nothing. Nothing but the fighting, that is. And, as fighting games go, it's a pretty dang fun one.

Unfortunately, beat-em-up's are kind of a thing of the past. A few years ago they made a one last surge though and Urban Reign, reigned supreme.

Back in the day, this genre ruled the arcades and consoles with hits like Double Dragon, Final Fight, and Streets of Rage. But slowly over time, the brawler got left behind and there was a sense that what could be done had already been done and that there was no more left to do. That's a real shame because it's a great genre and though it past, nothing came to take it's place.

A few years back, there was a small resurgence with Final Fight, Beat Down and Urban Reign all making an apperance around the same time. Final Fight and Beat Down attempted to mesh some GTA "mature" themes into their games and forgot the gameplay and they failed because of it. Urban Reign flew under the radar as the other 2 were publicized and promo'd alot more. But Urban Reign had something the others didn't, the developers of 2 of the greatest fighting franchises.

Urban Reign keeps the beat-em-up theme intact but takes a fighting game approach to the genre. Instead of walking through the city and trashing every thug in sight, missions are set up through a quick story recap that puts you on one stage to dispatch of anywhere between 1 and 5 street punks at a time. The stages vary in size from a back parking lot to a city block with ample running room. The story in pretty straight forward and revolves around various gangs vying for power and control of turf. Your a hired gun, assigned to fend off and expose the new threats. Which makes little difference to you as your just going in to crack skulls all the same. But the 100 missions are interesting enough to pay attention and the voice acting and cut scenes are actually pretty good.

The graphics are suprisingly good for a PS2 game. Even today, they hold up very well. I have to believe that they only benefit from the smaller focused stages and characters. That's another good thing, as your not just beating up the same 5 guys wearing different jackets like in older games. Every one of the 60+ characters has a unique look, fighting style and move set. Most of them are unlockable and playable in alternate modes, including Marshall Law and Paul Phoenix from Tekken. The soundtrack includes some rocking tunes that'll put you in the mood for some pummeling and the cracks and smacks of combat accomodate perfectly.

But it still all comes down to gameplay and that's where Urban Reign shines. Though theres only 1 button for strikes and 1 for grapples, the fighting is actually pretty deep. In the first few stages, it doesn't seem too fun or interesting, but as you go on, you upgrade your character with fight points and aquire new moves along the way. Eventually, you'll be able to pull off some impressive and really cool looking combo strings. It's like a mix of a traditional fighting game, a beat-em-up and a wrestling game. There's slams, throws, grapples and even double teams with an AI or human partner. There are also weapons strewn throughout stages and a super combo meter that can be built up to unleash a few different combos. The other 2 face buttons are used for run and evade. I really like the evade button as it requires more skill than a block button and makes the fighting flow and look more natural.

This is also a pretty challenging game. There's 5 levels of difficulty and the challenges only increase as you move up, so spend your points wisely on the attributes that'll help you the most. Some of the bosses and hardcore fighters will test your patience but there's always a method that'll differ to use on each. Always be observant to what works best and where they take the most damage and go with that.

As for downsides, the camera can be a little funny at times. When the action really gets going or your running around the stages, the camera has a hard time keeping up and your opponent will be off screen. You can move the camera with the shoulder buttons but it moves a little slow and your not always sure which way to move it. You can also find yourself being juggled against walls or in corners by opponents but luckily, you can use your power combo meter to break or evade their juggles. They can be a little frustrating sometimes but not enough to ruin the game.

Overall, this is a very satisfying game that flls a genre that's all but lost. Graphics and sound are very good here but gameplay is king. There's also plenty of unlockable modes and characters for solo, and multi-player (up to 4), that add depth and replayability. I know I'm guilty of passing on Urban Reign as I just didn't know what to expect and I only recently picked it up for cheap. But I'm sorry I did as it's alot of fun and fills a catagory that I didn't have already in my library. Definitely recommended for Tekken and beat-em-up fans.

Urban Reign is one of those game that will appeal to a certain audience and was made for specific type of gamers. Its a beat em up game similar to final fight, death by degrees etc. Created by the same team that brought you the Tekken series it has that Tekken feel to it like that electric sprite you get whenever you hit someone.

It has has all the makings of a beat em up urban areas, gangs to beat upc, weapons like bats, pipes, etc. The story is not something you'll really focus about, basically your a brawler for hire named Brad Hawk who goes around beating up various gangs and their members to rid the streets of urban chaos, well for the second half at least for the first half your just beating up people left and right just for the hell of it.

Ok so the story is out of the way, now the gameplay its fighting from stage to stage just beating up people by whatever means but on occasion you'll be tasked to damage a enemies leg or their arms. Now there's 99 missions and this why I gave the game 4 stars the levels can get repetitive because you'll be revisiting the same areas but with different enemies. And this is the same with boss characters you'll fight the same ones again; first by themselves and then with more enemies by their sides, its lazy but hey I guess they had to stretch the 99 mission some how.

Now this game is notorious for its sudden peak in difficulty, this is why I said its meant for specific gamers. If you like beat em up games, not fighting game that's just one on one;in this game you'll have guys coming at you from all sides juggling you to the point that it feels cheap and this can be maddening on the later levels. But one thing I like is that there is Multiplayer which helps you forget about how difficult the later missions can get. You can play with a buddy or just duke it out with more players in a deathmatch type modes; the multiplayers is the best part about this game.

Urban Reign is a game for those who want the old school beat em up experience with challenging opponents who are just as tough as you. The multiplayer is a great add on that relieves the game that other wise would of been to hard for casual gamers.

Honest reviews on Urban Reign - PlayStation 2

Urban Reign is a great game if you willing to accept two things upfront. One its one hard game. And two,the story is pretty much nonexistent. With that said, lets start the review.

When you first start Urban Reign (hereafter UR)your greeted to a few nice cut scenes that start to flesh the story out. Sadly after that the story is told via text before you start your missions (of witch there is 100 of). The fighting in UR uses only 2 buttons for attacks, but you can make a lot of combos and grapples with them,I'm amazed at what Namco did with the fighting engine here.

Graphics wise UR is fairly good its about on par with Metal Gear Solid 2. It runs nice and smooth at (to the best of my knowledge) 60FPS with no slowdown at all.

One thing that should be mentioned is this game is HARD. I shamelessly turned the difficulty down to Very Easy after the first 5 missions and it was still hard. Two of the bosses here will absolutely open countless cans of whup*** on you. (Napalm 99 and Golem) But disarm them and use there weapons against them to make the battles about 10x more easy, going hand-to-hand is not an option.

Like I've said above the story is pretty bland in UR but it's alright if you accept it for what it is. UR main competition in 2005 was Beat Down:Fists of Vengeance (Beat'em ups are a dying breed. The only one out on current consoles is Yakuza 3.) And that game was utter crap. It was trying to be a beat'em up/GTA hybrid that didn't work out to good. UR is way better than BD in every department (except graphics witch are about on par, remember they were released within a month of each other.) I definitely recommend you pick up this game I found it in a bargain bin at Canadian Tire (think sears for our US friends) and am happy I got it,You will be to!

I should also add I gave it 4 stars due to the insane difficulty and unpleasing story (its like not being satisfied after having s*x)

A smart and repetitive fighting game that will have you wondering why you haven't played this game yet. A unique set of controls will have you in a trance while you stomp, pile-drive, snap-arms, and run up walls flipping backwards to kick someone in the face.

Basically it's like Gauntlet/Jedi Power Battles/Command and Conquer, all rolled into one. You fight epic battles where you pretty much single-handedly demolish hundreds of enemy troopsthat's why you're a heroheroes do that you know! But unlike games like Gauntlet, you can chose where on the battle map you want to concentrate your attention, fighting. For example, if one of your ally generals is about to fall, he will issue a warning, and you can either allow him to get slaughtered or you can rush to his aid. Allowing him to die results in the diminishing of the overall moral of the troops, which in term translates to a reduction in fighting ability.

Fighting is with very simple button sequences, which are pretty much the same with every character. During the course of the game you collect items that improve your character's performance.

The plot in the game is based on The Three Kingdoms (also availabe on Amazon), a well known Chinese novel. I think this is the first time a video game might actually encourage someone to read a book! (Actually Kessen is also based on the same storysurprise, Koei also makes the Kessen game!) Unfortunately whatever the story is amongst these kingdoms, it's completely incomprehnsible in the game. But that's really not important anyway, as jumping in and killing lots of people pretty much gets you through all the game campaigns.

Pros:

simple controls to master

provides light strategy that is manageable in the thick of a battle

can switch to Japanese mode so the characters speak Japanese. Sounds cooler at least.

graphics are good

Cons:

game gets a bit repetitive

major hand pain from stabbing the game controller buttons for too long. A campaign can last as long as 40 minutes!

awefully stilted English voice acting

rock sound track does not really fit with the theme of the game. Needs more of a Gladiator or Lord of the Rings soundtrack in the game.

The Three Kingdoms era of China is brought to life in this game. I haven't heard anything about Dynasty Warriors 3 until my cousin showed me it. At first, I thought the characters and battles were made-up. However, my cousin has told me he has read about some of the men who lived back then.

In the game, you can play up to 40 different characters, each with a different weapon and so on. Most people are unlocked and you have to do something special to unlock them. Doing a "Musou Mode" usually unlocks some new people and get thier 2nd and 3rd level weapon. You also get bodyguards, starting with only 2, but you get more bodyguards as you level up.

The toughest guy in the game is Lu Bu and he is very dangerous to low-level characters. So, take the advice someone gives you: "Don't Pursue Lu Bu!"

This game is highly addictive and a lot of fun!

(...) I went to the local Gamestop yesterday where I like to hang out because the guys who work there are awesome. Anyhow, they just recently received DW3. I played the 2nd one a bit and thought it was a little above average. Well my friend, who played DW2 before, and I gave this game a try. He tried a little of the 1P mode. Then we tried the VS mode which was pretty cool. We weren't totally positive if there was a co-op but when I found out there was we figured out how. This game is fantastic. I personally enjoy multiplayer in any video game and this one does it very nicely. There were a few "bugs," but what can one expect from a game that is so huge and running on the limits of the PS2. "Bugs" you say? Well actually I noticed one bug and two annoyances. The one bug was the spawning and de-spawning of characters on screen basically randomly. Enemies would just appear in the middle of the screen randomly. And they would disappear just the same. One annoyance was that the game REALLY slowed down, probably 10 FPS (frames per second), when at one point there was too much going on the screen. The other annoyance was the "fog." I don't mean programmed weather fog, like rain or snow or fog. I mean the system cannot handle all the polygons, so it fills outside a small radius of the player "game fog" where one cannot see because it's just grey. Many other games experience this, especially console games. If you ever played Turok... bad fog too. Other than all that, this game is so darn awesome. It's fun running around just smashing opponents and watching them fly across the screen. The 2P "Mosou" mode is just great. Get this game now!!!

Honest reviews on Dynasty Warriors 3

Nothing quite spells relief like kicking the crud out of thousands of on screen enemies. Even better is the fact that you get to do it with a giant sword. Add to that the forty playable characters, and you have a great game with almost limitless replay value.

The instant appeal of this game is the afore mentioned beat up factor. The genre that was perfected with Final Fight is still strong with this game, due in part to the minor RPG character building elements added by Koei, and a much needed two player mode (this was greatly missing from DW 2).

There's really no way you can go wrong with a game like this. If you got a kick out of Streets of Rage, Final Fight, or any of the other hundreds of games in the same genre, you will love this game.

Now that I have the game, I feel that I can review this.

I played it last night, and the first thing I noticed is that battles are different from the first game. They are no longer linear battles where you basically go through all the generals on the map and then kill the enemy commander to win. Now it's much easier to just go straight to the commander and get the kill -on some of the maps. Like the first one, I played Xiaohou Dun and Zhang Jiao (the enemy commander) was right in front of me. Finished him, and finished the map.

That said, it's actually a more difficult game than the predecessor. The AI is much smarter this time, and the enemy soldiers do attack quite a bit now. The biggest improvment in difficult is that the enemy generals now have moves that are difficult to counter -you might actually have to use the block button (gasp!) whereas in the previous game it was basically useless. The good thing is that enemy generals no longer recover health when they get knocked down, so you don't have to worry about keeping them standing while smashing away. Also, it's not as easy now to go in by yourself into a group of enemies and just kill them all -you have to be careful or you get killed very quickly. This is all on normal difficulty.

The maps are much improved, with actual terrains instead of a big, flat map like in the last game. Now you're always going up and down slopes, and the surrouding is generally more detailed that the last one. Also, there are more events in a map as far as I can tell, and there are also more varieties. I've only played on four stages so far, but they have all been fairly different, making a nice change from the last one.

There are a lot more characters now, and finally, the levels you can play with each character in the musou (story) mode actually corresponds to history. Zhao Yun, for example, no longer shows up in the Yellow Turban Rebellion map because he never fought there in history! This is a nice touch that I thought should've been fixed in the last game where people who shouldn't show up did.

I haven't gotten to the elephant yet, so no comment on that.

The items/weapon system seem to work well, although I haven't gathered too many of these so I don't know how important they might be, but I suspect they'll turn up more in the later levels and will show their usefulness. Once you get a new weapon your attack pattern might change. For example, for Zhao Yun the inital weapon is basically the same as the last game, with the same combo. But with newer weapons the combo can change to a 6-hit combo with different moves. So when playing it is important to look for these things, or else fighting might get very difficult since the enemy defense is fairly high once you get on some more advanced levels.

I have yet to see an in-level save point, and I'm not sure if they exist anymore. I have to play more to see (didn't read the manual, you see...)

Basically, a great sequel that added many of the features that were lacking. The music is still not great, but you aren't really playing this game for the music. The cinematic sequences have been greatly improved and now they actually mean something. The voice acting is great (although I use the Japanese voice acting with English subtitles). Overall, a very good game. If you liked the old one, this one is definitely a buy. If you've never played the old one, I suspect that this game will be much less repeatetive than some people found for the old one because of newer levels and weapons/items. Certainly worth a buy.

I ran into a few problems with the Ion Drum Rocker right out of the box.

First off, the sensitivity of the cymbals are about 65-75% of where they should be. If you're at an expert level, you'll definitely see the difference when you're hitting drum rolls on the high hat (middle of Everlong, YYZ, etc.). Second, you have to hit the cymbal a little harder than usual, which increases arm fatigue. Third, the cymbals are quite loud (not as loud as the RB1 drums, but damn near) in comparison to the tom toms. You can purchase aftermarket cymbals (several available for purchase online & amazon.com!) that would work extremely better.

The bass pedal is also an issue. Sturdy, but it is prone to sticking at the bottom. The pedal is also prone to static issues which cause the entire drum set to disconnect (

Also, my drum module was triggering buttons sporatically (due to a manufacturer defect), but a replacement from amazon.com is on the way to my home.

In conclusion, the Ion Drum Rocker could've been a great drum set, but there were a few quirks that keeps it from greatness. You can get replacements for your cymbals($40-50 a piece) and also the Rock Pedal(great buy for your aspiring fake drum career :D); but it retrospect, you shouldn't have to spend money to upgrade equipment after just spending bucks. Do your research!!!

I ordered these on December 9th (in the evening) and thanks to a free trial of Amazon Prime, I got it shipped next day for just $3.99. Anyway I received them today and......WOW!!!! This peripheral single-handedly has made Rock Band FUN again!!! It's a completely different experience than the standard drum kit. The symbols add a level of realism that could not come close to being achieved with the standard kit. There is a learning curve, as the symbols will confuse you at times (when to hit them vs when to use the regular pads,) but it's fun figuring it out! The kick pedal is very good (way better than the one that comes with Rock Band and Rock Band 2, but not as good as the Omega Pedal.) It does take a while, took me about 30 minutes, to set up out of the box. There are wires going everywhere, one from each drum pad/symbol, to a central hub but you can zip-tie the cords up so it doesn't look like a rats nest. The kit can be set up to your liking as all the drum pads and the symbols are move-able. The pads themselves are more quiet and give more "bounce" than the rock band kit as well. Over all this is a very good drum kit, I have been playing Rock Band for almost 1 year, got to the point where I could play about 1/2 of the 250+ songs on expert so I have put a lot of time in on the old kit. I love the Drum Rocker and am looking forward to hours and hours of fun using it!!! The BEST kit on the market for playing Rock Band/Guitar Hero World Tour!

Best Deals for Ion IED08 Drum Rocker Premium Drum Set - Playstation 3

In a nutshell, this is a fantastic electronic drum kit for Rock Band. It's worth picking up if you have skill and the drums and want to advance to the next level.

Some notes before starting out:

When I compare the Ion Drum Rocker to the standard Rock Band kit, I am referring to the original R.B. drum kit, not the R.B.2 kit

I have the Rock Pedal (which works for this kit with a simple 1/8 to 1/4 adapter) and will not discuss the pedal that comes with this kit (though it seems more responsive than the standard pedal)

I have been a "Rock Band drummer" for about 10 months, and can play roughly 75% of the songs on Expert

Let me explain some specifics about this kit via a pros/cons list:

PROS

1) Drum pad placement. Lots of flexibility to move drums pads around--change the angle, height, and placement on the bar. You can set the four pads to wherever is most comfortable for you. The L-shaped rod under each pad gives you some flexibility in height.

2) Noise reduction. The drum pads are much quieter than the standard Rock Band kit. (There are some YouTube videos that demonstrate this, and it is a noticeable difference.)

3) Sensitive pads. The drum pads are velocity sensitive and also have more 'bounce' to them than the standard kit.

4) Easy adjustments. The kit comes with a drum key (an allen wrench, really) that lets you make every adjustment that needs to be made.

5) Cymbals. Come on, you really want this to have the cymbals, right? :> The cymbals are also quiet and really add to your enjoyment when playing. It also makes you focus more closely on what's going on in the music (not just blinding hitting the blue pad without noticing whether you're hitting a tom or a ride cymbal).

CONS

1) Cymbal placement. Well, it's okay, but you're a bit more limited when it comes to placement and angle. The kit comes with a short (~12") bar and a longer (~24"-30") bar, so you have some flexibility in height. The drums give you more freedom of placement.

2) Ships with two cymbals. You can order the third for $50, though.

3) No option for a fourth, or "red" cymbal. Some songs ("Run to the Hills" or "Rio" amongst others) have you hit the red pad as a cymbal, but there's no option to plug a cymbal into a "red" input. Not a huge problem, just a tad annoying (I'm actually more annoyed at the RB programmers for ever turning the red snare drum into a cymbal!).

4) Bigger/Bulkier than the original RB kit. Or maybe this is a con. :> It's not too much bigger, but it is heavier and a little trickier to move.

As a sidenote, I have not had any problems with the cymbals dropping 'fast' notes (mine are set to Ride/Blue and Crash/Green currently, so I haven't tried the Hi-Hat/Yellow).

Overall, the pros vastly outweigh the cons. These seem to be very high-quality drums, and it adds to the challenge of drumming when you have to differentiate between cymbals and toms when you're playing! If you are really into Rock Band drumming, I highly recommend this kit.

Honest reviews on Ion IED08 Drum Rocker Premium Drum Set - Playstation 3

I was beginning to think I was the only one, but I have begun to see more and more comments about other peoples problems with ION customer service and the drum kit... here goes mine.

I got the Ion DrumRocker for PS3 which didn't get released until December. I picked it up the first day it was available, only to have the bracket on the Red drumpad break when tightening, since it is only cheap plastic (again, something meant to be hit hard with a stick should be better constructed). This was not due to over-tightening as the customer service guy tried to suggest since I tightened all of my pads the same way and only had this one break. In addition, both of the cymbals were only registering 50-70% of the time and only when hit VERY hard. I went online and filled out the only form I could find for customer service and didn't get a call within two days. I did more searching and finally found a number (not toll free) to call. When I called, they acted like they were doing ME a favor by allowing me to return the product. They said they were going to send a UPS shipping label by email and that I would get it in two days. Two days later, no shipping label, so I called again, they said they would resend it. Two more days, no label, called again, said they would try a different email address. Two more days, no label. Now they say they will print out a label and send it to me by mail. This went on past through Christmas, and into January and I still did not have a shipping label. Finally, mid-January, after talking to 10 different people and spending hours on the phone, I finally have a label. I send it in and cross my fingers. Three weeks go by and I have not heard anything. I call. They I give them the RA# and serial# of my drum set and my name. They tell me that unless I have the Tracking number of the package, they can't tell me what's going on with my repair. Remember now... THEY printed the shipping label... THEY issued the RA#... and now THEY have no idea what's going on with MY merchandise!! I ask to speak with a manager and after arguing with the guy he transfers me to a voice mail service, so I leave a message and ask for a call back..... Any guesses if I got a call back? One week later (now nearly the end of February, two and a half months after the set was broken) I call again and demand that someone find out where my merchandise is. The guy finally tells me that there's a backlog of repairs and that they did receive my broken parts, but that I wouldn't get replacements until late March or early April -FOUR to FIVE MONTHS AFTER I PURCHASED AND REPORTED THE DEFECTIVE PRODUCT!!!!! I voiced my frustration saying that I'm sure they are filling new orders for drum kits that were placed well after my repair was requested and meanwhile those of us with problems are left out our $300 and without a working product. He tells me a sob story (which I'm sure is a lie) about how he bought a drum rocker kit for his daughter for christmas and it was broken and he still doesn't have a replacement and his daughters ask him every day why santa brought them a broken toy.... oh, woe is me... my poor deprived imaginary daughter without her drumrocker... whatever will I do?

Just when you thought it was over... I decided to use the Ion Drumrocker kick pedal with my stock RockBand kit using an adapter (I like the DrumRocker pedal better) and within 4 songs, the trigger switch in the pedal broke (the same problem described in the first post). Now I've gotten another RA# and shipped off another part from my ION kit, probably not to be seen for another 5 months.....

This review may get too detailed for the average user, but if you're like me, you want to know everything there is to know.

The first thing I need to mention is that the static issue is a serious problem. While playing on carpet, eventually static builds up and causes the Ion's module to disconnect with PS3 halting your fun mid-song. This can happen several times each song. Check the internet there are some solutions to isolate the pedal and stand by using fabric softener sheets lol! Luckily I accidentally stumbled upon the BEST way to fix this problem. Take an extra 1/4" patch cord, plug one end into the Ion module and let the other end dangle on the carpet. This will ground the module and there will be no way for any static to build up and discharge. Once I discovered this trick, I never lost connection again.

For a Rock Band replacement drum set, this set is AWESOME. If you're already good at RB, these will make you even better. If you don't get 100% accuracy at the end of a song, it's NOT the drums' fault, is YOUR fault. The responsiveness of the drum pads is pure heaven. They bounce back and make drum rolls a breeze. They are nice and quiet for small home or apartment use. The stand is very sturdy and excellent quality. Everything is easily adjustable to put the pads where you like. It's true what others wrote about portability. Tear-down and set up is not easy. Luckily I have space in my house and everything stays together and simply moved to the corner.

Bass pedal very mediocre. I started with Guitar Hero and quickly upgraded to a much higher quality kicker and loved it, so I don't like the pedal style at all. It is playable, but you may want to upgrade. If you do, be careful because although the Ions advertise that you'll be ready to move up to professional electronic drumming at any time because their drums are just like real electronic drums that's not entirely true. Although their pads are like real e-drums, the bass pedal is not. Ion's bass pedal is digital in other words on or off. And that's the signal the Ion's drum module is expecting. If you upgrade to a real bass drum kicker, it puts out an analog signal basically identical to the rest of the pads in this kit. But the Ion module cannot read an analog signal for this input. You'll need to buy a small device that converts the signal.

Cymbals here I can't give as good of a review. The cymbals sound like you're hitting a block of wood and the responsiveness isn't great. They're only moderately fun to play on and they're too loud, but that's not the real let down. I'm a Guitar Hero player 1st, and a Rock Band player 2nd, so if you like to play both, read on. I closely checked all the compatibility charts for GH and RB games, and every recent game supported Ion's drums. I mistakenly thought that the Ion drums would act just like the Guitar Hero World Tour drums (or Band Hero drums). They don't. The GH games will "dumb down" to only 4 lanes of drums just like you were playing RB. This was a huge disappointment to me because I like the added difficulty and realism of playing 5 drums plus a bass pedal as opposed to RB's 4 drums plus bass. The Ion drum module (the "brain") appears to have 8 inputs (1 bass pedal and 7 "drum" inputs). This is NOT the case for GH games. The module really only has 5 inputs: 1 bass pedal and 4 drums. The other 3 inputs are merely duplicates of 3 of the existing drums. They are simply wired in parallel so that a drum (or cymbal) hooked to either input produces exactly the same result. Conversely, in RB2 the cymbals do make a different sound during fills and in freestyle mode. A good thing is that in RB3, the Ions support the pro mode which means the cymbals are differentiated from the pads and you have to play the correct one. If you want to play on more realistic feeling cymbals, I recommend buying Ion's basic drum package and adding other cymbals that are more playable. Either way, there is no way to make GH work with 5 lanes unless you want to buy some extra and/or modded equipment. If you do, read on.

There are ways to play Guitar Hero games with 5 lanes as it was meant to be played, but you have to use extra equipment. There are forums out there to give all the details, but I'll sum it up quickly. You can use a real drum module from a set of real electronic drums by completely bypassing Ion's module. You plug the drums directly into the real drum module, then use the MIDI out from the drum module to the MIDI in on your Guitar Hero drums. If you've thrown out your GH drums, you can buy just the modules (and/or the wireless dongles) on internet auction sites. Do your homework before actually buying a real drum module because the module will need to have reprogrammable MIDI channels so that the GH module gets the correct signal. If the MIDI notes cannot be reprogrammed, you'll need yet another piece of hardware that is made strictly to re-map MIDI notes.

The second way is to just get the MIDI box that accepts drum pad signals, and outputs (re-programmable) MIDI signals. These boxes are much cheaper than true drum modules because they aren't capable of outputting any sounds, only MIDI signals.

The third way is to buy a modded Guitar Hero drum module or mod one yourself. You can make the stock GH drum module accept input from the Ion's drum pads by putting 1/4" female jacks on the GH module and connecting them internally. Check forums for how to do this correctly.

Be warned that if you do use the Ion's to play GH, you CAN'T use Ion's bass pedal because it's digital. You'll have to use GH's stock pedal or some upgrade that's like a real kicker with an analog signal. Also be warned that Ion's drum pads output a VERY strong analog signal and can be too sensitive when used with a modded GH module. You can download a program to adjust the sensitivity of the GH module, but I've found that even at the absolute lowest setting, the pads are still too sensitive and you get false hits from vibrations from other pads. This can be fixed by attenuating each of the signals by using resistors, but that's even more modding!

The final part of this review is to talk about the most fun part to me. You can get rid of Ion's drum module and connect your Ion drums into a real electronic drum module and play along with either GH or RB. This can be done in practice mode, but if you want a real thrill, you can make it work inside a real game too. If you can program your drum module to re-map the MIDI notes, you can take the drum module's MIDI output and put it into Guitar Hero's MIDI input. Now your drums will register inside the game. You can then turn the volume down on the video game's drum track and then turn the volume up on your drums' amp or however you play your real electronic drums. Warning!!! This will make you realize how difficult it really is to drum. The video games have a (relatively) HUGE margin of error where you can strike a drum too early or too late and the music still plays perfectly. With this setup now the drums play exactly when you hit them. This is an extremely fun time. Even better is that you can keep adding more drums (like more cymbals and more toms) and map different drums to same colors making your drums still register in the game. It becomes much more like real drums.

If you're like me and spend too much on this type of video game, I have another suggestion for you. If you think you'll keep upgrading drums or adding lots of stuff, you'll be way ahead of the game if you just start with a real set of electronic drums. You can get basic kits for $500-$1000. I know it sounds like a lot, but trust me if you start with Ion's drums and keep upgrading and adding stuff you'll end up spending much more in the long run. Just realize that you're spending this money on a stand and 4 pads. The Ion module will become useless and the so will the cymbals when you upgrade. If you're going to stay with Rock Band and not go to real e-drums, this kit is awesome, but like I said before, skip the cymbals.
