omg the drone was useless! my coworker got the hardened edition, i got the care package. only difference in the two was the blasted drone. its literally Styrofoam. cheap as hell, and out of the box one propeller didn't work. i was sooooooo beyond disappointed with this. i mean every "collectors" package in the past was amazing, night vision goggles, real sturdy rc car, and then this? shame on you activision. my 20$ rc helicopter is better built than this. its what i get for splurgging on something that sounded too good.

Ok, before you buy the Care package edition think about it. The Hardened Edition is 95 bucks and has everything in the Care Package Edition except for the Helicopter. Do you really think that dumb helicopter that you'll never use and breaks in 5 minutes is worth 100 DOLLARS! HELL NO! So just buy the 60 base version (which is also an awful game, I would just get MW3 or BF3 instead) of the game and save 140 dollars that you could spend on something that is helpful in your life. I bought the normal version of this game because I'm smart, but my friend bought the Care Package Edition and boy was he upset when he flew his helicopter into the wall and it shattered. All the Care Package Edition is, is a way for Activision to scam you out of your money. So don't buy this game or this edition of this game and don't trust Activision because this is only one of many times they've tried to scam 13 year old kids out of money.

I normally don't write many reviews but as I had recently purchased the Care package for my son I felt compelled to provide some feedback. I purchased this package for the "normal" price of $179 and I was fully aware I was paying a premium for the helicopter. The unit arrived on launch day which was very good and 5 stars to Amazon for getting this to my house on time. My son, thus far, really likes the game so the game overall receives 5 stars. The problem I have is that the helicopter was defective on arrival. The only option available by Amazon is to return the entire package and order a new one separately. That is a bit annoying. I understand that there is little that can be done, but to package everything back up and ship it out and then wait for a refund (that could take 2 weeks after arrival) it's just a bit much. I also had to order and pay for the replacement as an exchange was not an option.

Overall, I think the game is worth it but the helicopter is not. I asked my son (14 years old) if he wanted the helicopter replaced and he said yes so we'll see if the new one works. I will update this review upon receipt of the new package.

Honest reviews on Call of Duty: Black Ops II Care Package

Great package! The case is well built and the drone is fun to mess around in the house maybe even outside on a windless day. They even included the 4 AA's needed to power the controller. The controller has a cord you could use to charge the drone along with a USB cord if you wanted to charge it from a computer. Could not be any happier with my purchase.

Side thoughts.. (Not meant for those whose drones were defective)

For those not impressed with the drone I wonder what you thought you'd actually be getting. Any high end package for a game offers nothing more than something to display. Yeah it works but is not meant to be what you are paying for.

The R/C car with the Prestige edition of Black Ops while cool requires 14 AA batteries, not included, to run and honestly eats them up. It is seriously a noisy piece of equipment of the same quality as any cheap R/C car you get from Walmart, Target, etc. The only bonus was you got a camera and mic that were of mediocre quality. Again it is more for display than actual use as the range you could control it was maybe 25 feet at most before it'd start glitching.

I know some will point to the night vision goggles of MW2 saying that was well made and they were BUT you could easily find a set of NVG of the same quality for less than the extra cash you paid for the package at the time.

A "collector's edition" for any game is just that, for collectors. Those who like a product and want to have something that you can not get anywhere else to display in their home. Anyone who expects more is foolish.

The "special" extra merchandise is in fact cheap and flimsy and does not compare to the high gloss pictures in the advertizing.

That, however, is nothing new.

All in all, I as the dad, find this still a worthy collectible for the fan boy.

What really irritated me, was the fact that the first delivery got "lost" on the way from one postal warehouse to the next.

That also happens, especially around christmas time.

The third party CS agents, from the accent and level of English language skills sitting in a Call Center in India, did nothing but feed us template lines and drag things out day after day after day, and even had the nerve to suggest that we indeed had received the package and were attempting to commit fraud.

Amazon's own CS then, however, was most professional and immediately went after the case. In the end we received a new shipment, free of charge, and had the shipping costs refunded.

Thank you very much for that!

The game itself is what it is you love it or hate it. I personally stopped liking the franchise after Black Ops 1, but then that is only my personal taste and opinion. My son loves it and I have to admit it looks cool.

First off... this is agreat pad, quick accurate response but it is NOT FOR XBOX 360. So given that games are not forward or backwards compatible... it is for the old XBOX. So it is pricey and is obsolete for the new games... HMMM does anyone make an adpater for this plug and converting to USB for the 360?

The sensitivity on this pad is fine, but you may want to put a no-skid rug backing, or yoga mat down as it travels on carpet.

I bought one of each, a foam pad and a non-foam pad. The foam pad is better; it allows you to play for longer in your socks; your feet don't start to hurt.

Review of Mad Catz Rock Band 3 Bass Bundle - Includes: Red Hot Chili Peppers

Mad Catz Rock Band 3 Bass Bundle - Includes: Red Hot Chili Peppers Bonus Tracks, Full Game, and Fender Precision Bass Guitar Controller Classic White for Xbox 360

This is my 3rd MadCatz Bass controller, the first two were the original wired versions, and both were defective. I ended up keeping the second one the defective switch was the start button, which until RB3 wasn't used much. Once the family moved to playing RB3, it ended up collecting dust and I used a standard guitar controller. I really missed having the dedicated controller, so when I saw a $40 price tag on this bundle, I grabbed one hoping for better luck and it paid off.

The wireless version (the one included in this bundle) is a second-generation version of the controller, and the build quality feels much better than the original the switches are all solid (the wired controller's were mushy) and the fret buttons are silent but responsive. The split strum bar takes some getting used to the feel of it is halfway between the "i can't tell when it's triggering" RB guitars and the "click-click-click) of the GH ones; it takes some getting used to before you get a good feel for it. The controller features native 360 wireless connectivity (no USB dongle needed like some other 3rd party controllers), and is a welcome improvement over the wired bass. The included strap is much nicer than the ones included with other instruments, but is shorter than the one included with the wired controllers and makes it a bit uncomfortable to use with the bass, since the bass is longer and is intended to be slung low and upstrummed with two fingers. I swapped the strap from my old bass, but it's something to keep in mind for new buyers you may want to visit a guitar store and pick up a longer strap.

The included copy of Rock Band 3 is a full version. If you are just now getting the game several years into the music game craze, you will enjoy it it's the last and best of the (now mostly dormant) genre. If you are upgrading from RB1/2, you'll appreciate the upgrades and extra songs. Most of the new DLC tracks released since RB3 have been RB3 exclusives, so you'll find a lot of new tracks to buy. Even thought he genre is pretty much dead, the Rock Band games are the only ones that my entire family still wanders in to play together when one of us plops it in the tray. It's also still a big hit at gatherings.

Lastly, the bonus track pack is great. 4 of the 5 songs included are among the Chili Pepper's best and most fun, and they pair up great with the bass controller. In fact, they are among the most fun and challenging bass tracks in the game beware the end sections of the songs if you play on hard or expert modes, they're killers.

As I said, I paid $40 for this bundle (I assume they are clearing out back stock) it was a steal at that price; I even got $15 of that back selling the spare copy of RB3 to GameStop. The price has since gone up, but even at $80 I would say it's a good deal if you like the game and want a good dedicated bass controller. If you still play and love the Rock Band games, go for it.

Works great! It came with some cheap batteries, but free is better than none. I have a few minor complaints, the button to remove the headstock is a bit too loose, and the "whammy bar" is too far away making it only available for long chords, the duel strum is strange but easy to get used to. Directional D-Pad works fine, and the dials for audio settings work. I am having some trouble activating via select dial but the start is instantly response. There also is a jiggling noise inside the bottom of the body, but it's common. Also there is only a switch for RB1 and RB2, however if you play RB3 change the dial to RB1. The box it came in was a bit dinged up but atleast it's the box. I also found it funny how the box it came in had printed on it "RB3 software not included" however it was. The strap that it came with is High Quality Fender strap, and the DLC code is nice however I already own all the RHCP songs. All around this was a great buy 10 of 10 must buy if you're a RockBand gamer...

Resident Evil 2: Greatest Hits (2000). The re-release of the 1998 blockbuster sequel to Capcom's survival horror series.

When the Playstation first started out, one of the first games to put the system on the map was Capcom's first foray into survival horror games, Resident Evil. Aside from the earlier series Alone In The Dark, Resident Evil was the first game of its kind to really bring the survival horror genre to life, complete with various puzzles and zombie blasting action. Since RE1 managed to build up a solid fanbase, Capcom was soon called to make a sequel the following year. Initially, they had 60% of the game completed and it was supposed to be released in early 97, but the creators weren't satisfied with the way it was going, saying that "it needed a huge overhaul". So the original plans were scrapped, forcing the fans to wait longer. But come early 1998, the wait was well worth it when Capcom unleashed the new and improved sequel, THE must-own PSX game of 98.

RE2 was the first title in the series I played, and from the get-go, I was hooked. When I say that it's the best RE title to date, I'm not joking, as just about everything from the first game went through a MASSIVE IMPROVEMENT. I'm very glad that Capcom ditched their original plans so that a better sequel could be made. Now I'm not trying to turn this review into just gushing praise, but honestly there's so much to like about this game that beats out the original.

For starters, the graphics are VASTLY superior to the first-generation visuals of the previous game. The character models are much more detailed, the still-screen environments are more vibrant (but dark and pale enough to convey the game's atmosphere), and the crappy B-movie quality intro of the original is gone in place of excellent CG movies. The characters and monsters, while still somewhat blocky, are all brought to life much better now with numerous animations, such as head tracking, and physical gestures during cutscenes. Also, when your character takes damage, you can now tell how hurt they are by the way they walk. If they hold onto their side and limp on one foot, you know that they're close to death. In addition, the newer game engine allows many more creatures to be in the area at one time, like when you stumble into a room with 7 zombies.

Secondly, the sound is brought more into the front this time, with howls and screams of the monsters standing out more so than in the last game. It's especially noteworthy when something suddenly jumps through glass or breaks a wall. When this happens, you'll definitely jump out of your seat. As far as scares go, it'll certainly keep you on the edge until the end. Same thing with the musical score. Compared to the last game, the music is quite a bit more chilling and it seems to know just when something will come out after you. And most importantly, the voice acting is thankfully much better this time around. It's not perfect, but the dialogue and characters are very believable. For instance, Leon's character shows real determination, Claire is quite sympathetic yet assertive, and Chief Irons comes off as just plain creepy. These traits help distinguish the characters.

The story is also brought out very well. Just a few months after the events in the first game, Raccoon City is overtaken by the T-Virus, and nearly every citizen has been turned into a zombie. Two outsiders, a rookie cop named Leon Kennedy, and Chris Redfield's (from the first game) younger sister Claire, wander into the monster infested city. The two get split up from one another only to end up in the police station. They soon find more characters and monsters to contend with, and discover the deep secrets of the Umbrella Corporation as the game goes on.

The controls for the most part remain the same as in the first game, as do the menu options. You still have to backtrack often to "item boxes" to store items you can't hold in your limited inventory menu. This grows tedious, but oh well. I did find that the controls are a bit more responsive this time around. The characters have plenty of differentiation in gameplay, such as how Leon starts with the lighter, whereas Claire can open locks. Plus, both feature different weapon arsenals, so there are plenty of guns.

Perhaps the best aspect of the game is the alternate scenario options introduced for the first time. What this means is that if you started and beat the game as Leon, you then play through the same story through Claire's perspective, and vice versa. The alternate scenario takes place in most of the same areas as the first time, but this time you have to contend with the menacing 7-foot, trenchcoat wearing Neo Tyrant. The idea is that he's constantly stalking you and could appear at any time (this idea was perfected with the Nemesis in RE3). The scenario features might make the game feel shorter than the original, but technically you'd be beating the game 4 times to see all the different endings. There's also a few cool mini games and sidequests to unlock, so you've got plenty of replayability here.

About the only bad thing I can say about RE2 was the fact that the puzzles were a lot more simple and not very challenging compared to the others in the series. It's a minor flaw though and doesn't take much away from the game.

Overall, RE2 is an excellent addition to the series, and expands the original game to new heights. Since it's available on multiple platforms now, it's very easy to come across. NEW FANS SHOULD START HERE, OR ALSO THE GAMECUBE REMAKE, THEN MOVE ONTO THE OTHERS.

When my cousin started talking about the Resident Evil series, I thought I should give them a try. I got this one first, since the first one was all out. I got home and put it in the Playstation. I loved the beginning part, although I was confused not having the first one. First off there are 2 discs for 2 different characters, Leon and Claire. I found out later Claire is related to Chris from the first one.

The graphics are cool, and the zombies are awesome. I played the game in the dark, recommended by a friend and I thought it was as suspenseful as a real movie! The controls are a little confusing at first, but then I got used to them. The puzzles are the only really drawback in this cool game. It took me days just to figure out one puzzle. But I got the hang of it.

If you starve for a grusome game with awesome graphics, look no further than Resident Evil 2. In fact try all the Resident Evil games, I love them all!!

These kinds of game deserves to be recognized and should never be forgotten. There isn't a person on earth that can easily turn away a game like Resident Evil 2 without having tasting it. This is what expect from a game that revolves around zombies and corporate conspiracies. From beginning to end you are hooked maybe not scared but hooked until you have completed the game. Learn your roots!!

Honest reviews on Resident Evil 2

First off, this is an example from someone who didn't finish the game completly, or lost the game: A gamer, August 15, 2000 Reviewer: A 10-year old gamer from Whittier, CA USA "This is the worst game I have ever played .It is way to short and has no real reason to play becuase its so boreing .So you should not buy this game its a waste of money."

Now, I had played it over and over and over; and yet I still jump at the suprises! This reviewer needs to get a life, as many of us gamers out there loved it, and the only thing that he probably didn't like was the violence and the scarryness of the game, because he is only 10. But if you know the company Capcom, get this game! And if you don't know Capcom, get the first Resident Evil before this one, it helps you know what is going on in this town! This game was one of the few in the world to be good, and I mean really good. So get it or get out because it's not a waste of money, it's a reall good use for money. And don't even think about not getting one for your kids, because they will love it to pieces! Capcom is the creator of Survival Horror and the savior of Survival Horror. So quit reading and get it already!

Find helpful customer reviews and review ratings for Resident Evil 2

When you bought a Sony PlayStation in 1998, there were three essential games to buy along with it Final Fantasy VII, Metal Gear Solid, and Resident Evil 2. Why? Because they were more than just video games, they were interactive cinematic experiences that elevated the medium.

The original Resident Evil was a flawed yet fun zombie game that was heavily inspired by George Romero's zombie films. Night of the Living Dead trapped frightened survivors in a house surrounded by flesh-eating zombies, but Resident Evil trapped the zombies inside the house with you. Dawn of the Dead expanded the zombie threat to a city setting, and Resident Evil 2 follows suit.

Resident Evil 2 sees the fictional Raccoon City overtaken with the T-Virus, turning its citizens into zombies. The player assumes the roles of rookie cop Leon Kennedy and Claire Redfield, sister to Chris Redfield, hero of the first game. It's Leon's first day on the job, and Claire hasn't heard from her brother in months. Their paths cross as they discover that they're smack-dab in the middle of a zombie apocalypse. They head for the Raccoon City Police Station, believing it to be safe from the zombie hordes. But they couldn't be more wrong, and it's up to you to help them make it out of Raccoon City alive.

While the first game has a slow burn to it as the player gradually unocvers the truth of the Umbrella Corporation's zombie virus, Resident Evil 2 immediately drops the player into the postapocalyptic world of a zombie-infested city. immersing the player in the seemingly doomed situation. A creepy, ethereal soundtrack and horrific monsters you often hear before you see futher magnify the player's fear and sense of dread about just what terrible surprise could be awaiting them behind the next door or around the next corner.

The game possesses two different scenarios. Which character you play as and the choices you make in Scenario A affect how you play Scenario B with the other character. There are also unlockable features like special weapons, unlimited ammunition, hidden playable characters, and challenge scenarios that further increase the game's replay factor that'll keep you busy for days, if not weeks.

But the game is not without its flaws. For one, the dialogue and voice acting are still in the realm of cheesiness, but it's still a vast improvement over the original game. Controiling your character's movements is still akin to repeatedly trying to do a K-turn with a tractor-trailer. And puzzles often feel out of place for a location like a police station. However, these are minor gripes compared to the overall product's presentation. You really get a feel that you're fighting to survive throughout the course of the game, and you get a sense of accomplishment once you master the game's control scheme because it further aids your survival.

Though the graphics are dated by today's standards and despite its flaws, Resident Evil 2 still ranks as one of the best installments if not THE best installment in the Resident Evil franchise, and its one of the best games in the survival horror genre.

Psychonauts - Xbox
Customer Ratings: 5 stars

Everytime Tim Schafer creates a game, I know it will be a blast. Having been on a roll starting with The Day of the Tentacle up through The Grim Fandango, each game has been delightfully intelligent, creative and an overall wonderful experience. Psychonauts is no different. In fact, it is one of the best games I have played not only this year but in a long time.

The setup is that there is a camp for psychic children who feel different in the outside world. At the camp, the counselors teach children how to harness their power to become Psychonauts, psychics who actually enter people's minds and sort out their problems. Because of this setup, each and every world is completely different from the others. Connected to a hub world of the camp, each real "level" is a person's mind. And each mind reflects the person's personality, fears, phobias etc. For instance, the beginning level is that of your drill instructor. His level is a warzone complete with mines, air plane drops, explosions, barbed wire etc.

Tim Schafer's touch is also evident in the characters who are actually characters. They all have a personality and are very emotive. I haven't laughed at a video game so hard since Conker's Bad Fur Day. This game is hillarious. From the kid who practices looking through a peep hole in the day to get practice for when it's filled with girls to trashing a town Godzilla style, the game has it in spades. However, there are some surprisingly disturbing moments in the game that are also darkly humorous. Because you have psychic powers, you also can do some pretty cool stuff from pyrokinesis, telekinesis, levitation, invisibility, etc. These moves help you progress through the levels and pick up hidden items throughout the game.

Graphically, the game is awesome on the Xbox. The levels are done in vivid colors and with a wonderful cartoon style. The campground seems alive as there are creatures walking your path. From squirrels, crows, pigeons, lizards, bears, etc, the world seems populated and just feels real. You can tell a lot of time and effort was put in to make this game come alive and it works. The game is presented in 480p, for those interested.

Aurally, the characters are voiced to perfection. Some great voice actors have been employed and it really helps create characters that are lovable. The only audio glitch I've noticed is that sometimes my speakers will "click" as voices come in or as the sound changes sometimes. The game is also presented in 5.1 surround in game.

Since the game is a platformer, all of the standards apply. In the real world and in each person's mind, there are a ton of things to collect. In the real world, there are arrowheads that can be pulled from the ground that represent cash. There is a scavenger hunt also going on that will earn you rank (which gives you new powers) and there are cards that can be formed as more rank. In each person's mind, there are also different things to collect such as emotional baggage, mental cobwebs, figments of the imagination and safes which you much punch open to reveal some of the person's past. Some of these slide shows are funny and some are actually kind of sad as you see how these people came to be who they are. I list these items to collect just as a note that the game definitely exhibits all of the charms of a platformer. But there actually is a reason to collecting everything and they fit together in this humorous world.

The game moves quickly and besides one or two intstances of panning that had the game do a wave type pattern, it is perfect. My recommendation if you play the game is to take your time talking to everyone. It helps flesh out the story and if you listen and keep making rounds after each world you will see minor breakups, makeups, humorous instances involving squirrels who tell one kid to kill everyone, and plain funny dialogue. Take your time with this one and you will definitely be rewarded.

This game is great, it's just what I was looking for. It helped remind me why I play video games. When a person can create such wonderful worlds and allow you to play in them, you realize why you play games. It is so creative. Where else can you be chased by a giant fish, rage across town as a Godzilla-like creature, be in a disco world where you must race, pin-ball style, wage war against a Napolean complex and set fire to squirrels? If you want a creative and fun video game that will take approximately 10-15 hours of your time, then this is definitely a must buy. Sure some say the game is too easy and relies on platforming cliches but honestly when you are having this much fun, does it really matter? Why quibble over small faults when you will genuinely have a complete and utter blast playing the game? I absolutely cannot recommend this game enough. And unfortunately, it's one of those games that will end up like Ico or Beyond Good and Evil where no one hears of it and no one plays it. Don't let that happen. Play this game because its games like this that the industry needs to keep creating.

A must buy. Creative and excellent.

Psychonauts was purchased solely on the Tim Schafer name. I loved Full Throttle, Day of the Tentacle and of course the Monkey Island range and so picked up this game as soon as I could without reading a single review.

First Impressions

After sitting through the various fun cut sequences (useful in getting you aclimated to the weird style of the people in the game), I was off. The initial control method borrows heavily from 3D platformers such as Donkey Kong 64, Banjo Kazooie and of course the Mario franchise and so whilst I felt at home when controlling Raz (the main character), I was somewhat concerned this game was nothing more than 'another' platformer.

But the game was fun and had lots of collecting so I plodded on in the apparent cutsy world of Psychonauts... As the game progresses, however, a much darker more interesting story unfolds. One which has you jumping into people's minds where you see their fragmented thoughts and the vaulted scary emotional baggage contained inside. This, along with the unique fighting control had me hooked. Sure I wanted to collect everything and there's lots of collecting to do but I also was genuinely fascinated by how the story was going to play out.

Controls

Psychonauts uses the usual third-person control of left thumbstick for movement and right thumbstick for camera. You can assign your offensive moves from a skillset of 'psych' powers to the R, white and black buttons. Fans of Zelda's Wind Waker will recognize that tidy way of ensuring you have the essential fighting tools to hand when you need them. Aside from the occasional auto-camera fubar, the controls are solid.

Graphics

Now this is where things get interesting. This game has some of the most varied and colorful graphics I've seen. When you get to the Matador's mind you'll see what I mean; it's like someone put a blacklight in my TV. And since a large portion of the game is played out inside people's minds the game is freed from logical imagery or even realistic forces (such as gravity). A guard that you enter has this bizarre paranoid mind for example; it's a rolling upside down/sideways forward world that's amazing to play on and so good to look at. I really cannot fault the in game graphics or the unique style. My only complaint on this front is most of the cut scenes are in-game rendered (that's good), but one or two are movies still using the game's engine. When these sequences appear it has the graininess of obvious compression and can break the spell of playing. Small point though.

Sound

What you'd expect in a zany game ochestral one minute and Benny Hill the next. Sound effects are put to good use and the voice over acting is stunning. Everything fits perfectly.

Overall

I love this game. I'm not done with it I'm about 70% in and I've been playing for 12 hours or so. I have taken the time to try to get a lot of the collecting done so if you whiz through it, it may be a quick affair. But this game deserves to be savoured no other platformer on the XBox has this depth, humor and gameplay. It's got everything it's a text adventure, a platformer, a shooter, a pinball game and a movie and it all blends perfectly. The puzzles are harder than the end of level bosses and that's the way it should be -there is no button mashing to win in this game. It's on par with epic game's such as Zelda Ocarina or Mario 64... and if these sorts of games appeal to you then you'd be doing yourself an injustice by not buying this one!

Best Deals for Psychonauts - Xbox

Let me start off this review by saying that I play a lot of different videogames, and owe allegiance to no genre in specifics, which is why I'm not going to compare this game to others. There are a variety of aspects that the game has which make it awesome, and I will cover these individually, in seperate paragraphs.

First off, creativity. This is not a spoiler, so have no fear as I progress. The game revolves around a ten year old child with psychic abilities by the name of Razputin, or "Raz". Without his parent's knowledge, Raz sneaks into Whispering Rocks Psychic Summer camp, a secret government training facility for young psychics. Once discovered by the camp counsellors, he is informed that his parents have been called, and will pick him up in a couple of days. Until then, he is not allowed to participate in any psychic training or activities. Of course, this doesn't stop our young adventurer from doing exactly that, and this is where the game begins. The game invites you to actually explore other character's minds, usually to help them solve an internal problem (frequently due to insanity), and each of the levels creatively reflect that character's problems. For example, you are invited into the mind of Fred, a distant relative of Napoleon, who has a split personality disorder as a result of continually losing strategy games to one of the inmates at the asylum. As you enter his head to kick Napoleon out and restore Fred's sovereignty of his mind, you are invited to play a game of strategy versus Napoleon's embodiment in Fred's mind.

Humor: I have to admit that I have been particular to Tim Schafer's sense of humor ever since playing Grim Fandango, and this game made me laugh a lot. For instance, at one point in the game you find yourself in the mind of a former high school wrestler. The walls inside the sewers of his mind are decorated with high school lockers, and one passageway is designed as a gym shower room, at which Raz remarks "Man, I feel like I'm back in High School...Which is wierd, because I'm only ten years old" The game is full of clever little side comments which make the game a blast to play, and the interactions with the other characters are constantly amusing (My favorite character is a psychic camper by the name of Mikhail, who is from Russia and has an obsession with finding a hairless bear)

Gameplay: I like the style of gameplay a lot. This is one of the first platformers I've played in a long time that seems to actually get everything right. If it's possible, you just have to try. If it's not possible, then there's no way to hack around it until you're supposed to. Some games tend to screw this up and allow the impossible, and it's nice to play a game that has a good environment to it. Moving on, the control system is nice. You move with the left analog, adjust the view with the right analog. You can assign three psychic powers (out of a possible 8) to hot buttons, and the game pauses while you assign them (you assign by pushing right on the d-pad). You can pull items out of your backpack, which never gets full (which doesn't break realism because at any given time you only have a max of something like 13 items of small-medium size). The game allows double jumping, which I usually think is cheap, but Psychonauts excuses it by defining it as an innate psychic ability which can be improved once you get the active psychic ability "levitate". The only thing I disliked about the gameplay was the fact that when you tried to target things, you had to be fairly close to your target, which seems silly when the main reason you would target something in Psychonauts is to use a ranged weapon like Psi Blast.

Sound/Music: This game has an awesome soundtrack. Every mind you invade seems to have the perfect music written for it, from the Mexican-themed "Black Velvetopia", to the Godzilla-like "Lungfishopolis". I'm not really an expert on describing music, which is why this part is going to be short, but let it be known that the music is just as awesome as the rest of the game, I just can't describe it owing to my own deficiencies.

Graphics: This game uses the xbox's graphical potential fully. I experienced no lag at all while playing, and yet could see clearly that everything was richly textured, high on polys, and gorgeous to look at. The graphical style is a little cartoony, which is something that I love in videogames, but I understand it is an acquired taste, so that is something you should definitely be aware of. In addition, each mind uses the game's graphics slightly differently, and gameplay varies a lot from mind to mind. For example, the earlier mentioned "Black Velvetopia" has a somewhat inverted color scheme, as if the world was being viewed under a blacklight.

So here we go with a final summary, which is probably the only thing most of you readers will read anyways.

Creativity: 10

Humor: 9.5

Sound: 9

Gameplay: 8.8

Graphics: 10

Overall: 9.5 This game is one of the best games I've ever played, and is one of the best out there for xbox. Get it! :)

Honest reviews on Psychonauts - Xbox

I'm a huge Tim Schaeffer fan, no one makes games like he does. Grim Fandango, Monkey Island series, Day of the Tentacle, Full Throttle...Schaeffer was the king of the adventure game.

And then adventure games went away. Our loss, really.

So Mr. Schaeffer has been working on this gem instead, and I've got to say, the humour is still there even though this is a platformer. Do not rush through this game, talk to everyone. There's an awful lot of detail to this game, and a lot of laughs, but you have to talk to the people...you know, as you would in real life.

Anyway, Psychonauts is a quirky story about a camp of young psychics training to become Psychonauts. A psychonaut can enter another persons mind and help with things like emotional baggage, mental cobwebs, and uncover damage to that persons psyche. What makes this so great is every time you enter another persons mind, the reality of that person is reflected in the environment you walk around. The military guys brain is a warzone, there's a paranoid milkman whose brain is like all the conspiracy theories you've ever read wrapped into one universe.

Hard to explain, but a joy to play. It saddens me that there's only a few reviews out there, but if you're looking for a really fun platformer on the Xbox, there's none better.

This is great news for people wanting to play this game on their next-gen, hi-def Xbox console! However, to get the emulator code for it, as well as many other Xbox games, the easiest way to do it would be to: make sure you have a CD or DVD burner, log on to type in the Search bar, "Backwards Compatibility", and find the article that says "Backwards Compatibility FAQ, which is a little step-by-step section that'll take you to burning all the emulator codes on to the CD and updating them on your Xbox 360 console.

Getting to the game, this is the most fun I've had for so long; a great platformer that's fresh, original, and really funny! End of story.

Being a fan of the older Silent Hills and Resident Evils I was skeptical of this game. I enjoy shoot em up games, buy miss the old style of run to live. That being said, this game is definitely like the old games. You have to play smart and cant just charge into battle. It keeps you on the edge of your seat the whole time.

The game is split up into 6 "episodes". Each chapter plays out like a self contained story that is a part of the whole story. I dont want to say to much, but for this price you cant go wrong.

This game is fantastic. If you love a good mystery or thriller, this game will have you on the edge of your seat. You'll jump, you'll panic, you'll have an excellent time playing through this epic story of a writer desperately trying to save his wife, and the world, from the darkness. If you're a fan of Stephen King, if you're a fan of Twin Peaks, The X-Files, Silent Hill, or even Resident Evil, you will love this game. It combines an incredible story, hectic action, jump-out-of-your-seat scare tactics and a little bit of humor to create one of my favorite, and many other peoples' favorite gameplay experiences of the last decade.

This and Modern Warfare were my introduction to XBox gaming. Not too bad for the money ($10) and a good way to kill some time but I think I'll stick to PC gaming in general (where are you Episode 3?)

If you've ever played San Andreas then your going to love this, this game is not boring and there's alot to do, lots of off road vehicles for off-roading and lots of customization options for your cars.

Overall its a HUGE improvement over Grand Theft Auto IV, its brighter and more colorful, the people come to life in the game and better car handling, for people who care about graphics its a big improvement over IV but I'd like to point out that if you choose a game by its graphics then your never going to enjoy good games and being picky over graphics ruins the experience (but like I said they're great in this game).

No the game does NOT freeze, sadly I played it straight for over 10 hours without realizing it and it never froze nor did I experience any bugs at all, it played flawlessly, so I really don't know what these people are talking about it being buggy, if it doesn't freeze within that amount of time then I think its pretty obvious its not going to and maybe they are having problems with their Xbox and not the game.

The one thing that I do hate in this game is the crashes aren't as realistic is they are in IV, its similar when crashing in Saints Row, but I didn't pay $60 just so I could experience good crashes, I got it for free roaming, and after playing it for awhile you really don't even notice the cheesy crashes anymore, during gameplay you may notice things you don't like and an example of that would be the crashes, or maybe you don't like the way the planes and helicopters handle because of the wind blowing against it (the flying is realistic and helicopters are difficult to handle, which I like.. it'll make it harder for little kids to shoot me on multiplayer when they're in a chopper), but in my opinion this is the best Grand Theft Auto to date and I would strongly suggest you don't pass on this game because its worth it.

***THIS GAME IS RATED MATURE!!!***: so parents if you don't think your kids aren't mature enough to handle this game then DONT buy it for them, I'm sick of seeing parents complaining and the news making Grand Theft Auto games out to be a game that makes kids do bad things when in the first place the parents shouldn't even buy young kids a game that clearly says 17+ on the back and you have to be 17 and up to buy it, so please don't rate games badly based on your ignorance.

And if you get this game and notice that the online multilayer isn't up yet don't freak, it says its going to be up 2 weeks from this past 17th (GTA V release date)

The mission structure has been improved in GTA V with ample check-pointing. That's point number one. As highly rated as GTA IV was, even at the time I felt frustrated by constantly starting failed missions all the way from the top. Well, this time Rockstar has changed that and for that one change alone the game is much more enjoyable.

Everything else is as you would expect a GTA game to bejacking vehicles and cruising the open world as you see fit. The missions range from utterly awesome (the heists) all the way down to mundane races against an exercise-crazed character.

Speaking of crazythat pretty much includes every single character in GTA. No one is "normal" in this game. But that's the stylea realistic world inhabited by some parallel world of people whose motivations, personalities, and actions are blown up and exaggerated. By real-world standards, every character in the game would be diagnosed a psychopath. In GTA V, psycho-path is defined by Trevor Phillips, so anything less than Trevor-crazy seems normal.

But the game knows how to have fun and not take itself too seriously. GTA V would turn into a really dark drama (a crazy one)without the absurdity and comedy written in to the script. Instead, amidst the dark deeds that happen in GTA V, the whole experience feels light. Even the game world is bright, with Los Santos bathed in beatiful sunlight almost all the time during daylight hours. It rarely rains. And at the moon even manages to light up the night.

And that notorious torture scene? Meh, really not as bad as you think. I'm sure Rockstar knew what they were doing when they put that in the final product. You can't release a huge game like this without putting something controversal in it. You need that for publicity and it scores you points (usually) with your hardcore fans for staying on the edge and pushing boundaries. In the end, my opinion of this particular scene is that it is a bit corny (In keeping with the "light" feel of the game as I described). The person being tortured makes some blatant statements regarding a certain political topic and all comes off as being really goofy. I think that was the intention.

The characters are great, the voice acting is well done, and the writing to me is outstanding. The only thing that gets tiresome is driving. At some point you just want to fast travel mission to mission and the cab just isn't cutting it for me. I can only imagine the next GTA will implement a better fast travel system. Apart from that, I'm never for want of weapons and ammunition and money is plentiful. Good. Focus is stricly on the missions, story progression, and enjoying the world of Los Santos.

One of my favorite games of the year.

Meh. I had fun playing it but once the story was done I had no desire to keep playing. Online doesn't Appeal to me and I can't be bothered to locate 1000000 alien ship parts and stunt jump locations.

Honest reviews on Grand Theft Auto V - Xbox 360

Although I cannot review this game in its entirety, I can still tell you about some of the things ive noticed right away. I have not finished the game yet, but I am a good deal into it.

Before you even put in the playable disk you must install the first disk. Yes there are two disks, but do not install the second! (As in load it to your hard drive) Rockstar made an announcement about this, i just wanted to warn everyone aswell.

First off, as most gta games have been, you must complete a short mission before you can do whatever you like. No spoilers there.

Once you do get to free roam, it is amazing. The map is beautiful, and there is so much to do. This game is so far, amazing!

There was alot of debate about the driving engine in this game, I find it to be much better than gta 4.

Pros:

-Amazing game

-Beautiful map

-Tons of stuff to do

-Driving is awesome

Cons:

-You can say goodbye to your social life for a while!

-But on a serious note, there is no app for android to customize cars etc.

-Also there are some bugs. (Cars randomly flipping over, wrong clothes on character)

-no big glitches, but small things that make it not perfect.

Overall, Just buy it already! You're missing out!!

Update September 18th 2013.

-Loading (Or lack of loading) is flawless! You transition from cutscene to playing soo smoothly.

-The missions are extremely fun and have great variety!

-Ive played for about 8 hours (Focusing on missions) and im only 20% into the total missions.

-Switching weapons takes time to get used to, but is a great system overall

-Ive never been more into a story in a video game before!

+ Cheaper than Wiimote

+ Better button configuration

+ Lights could be seen as cool if you like unnecessary lighting on your PC case etc.

+ Same size and shape as Wiimote

+ Not boring colored

The lights are piercingly bright

You can hear the vibration as much as feel it

I bought this because I needed another wiimote and this is cheaper than the Nintendo version. The lights on it are crazy bright. Maybe if you were using it in day time that wouldn't be annoying but then why would you need the lights. It has different settings so you can have the lights always on, always off, or light up when it moves a lot, but even the standard light showing which player you are is really bright. If I need another Wiimote (Unlikely as I use Roku for streaming now) I will be buying one of these.

It's 10 dollars less than a normal Wii remote, just as responsive, just as durable, and it LIGHTS UP! Seems like a no-brainer purchase to me. The new placement of the +,-, and home buttons are smart. They are covered by the rubber cover, but really, this wiimote is too cool looking to cover up.

I am completely satisfied and 100% recommend this wii remote.

Best Deals for Afterglow AW.1 Remote for Wii - Blue

Bought this extra remote for my 4 yr old son so we could play together as a family. His favorite color is blue and he absolutely loves it. It certainly looks awesome and plays the same as the normal wii remote on all of the games we have (I tried before giving it to him). It even worked well on some golf games that other third party remotes I tried did not work well with. The quality of the remote is great with no play in the battery cover. It fits all of the accessories I have. I thought that the different placement of the buttons may help my younger children not to hit the home button accidentally but alas they still do it frequently. The batter life is not sifnificantly diminished when I have the lights turn on when he shakes the remote. This setting is easily changed by pressing a button inside the battery compartment. Overall I would buy this remote again.

Honest reviews on Afterglow AW.1 Remote for Wii - Blue

Purchased a pair of these on Black Friday. Great product, works fine with Nintendo Wii! I was a little concerned about buying after market controllers, but these will do the job.

Pros:

-Awesome LED color

-Battery cover/pack are identical to the standard Wii-Motes (not sure about Wii+ remotes with sensor built in).

-On par performance with Nintendo product

-fits regular accessories that work with the Nintendo brand controllers

-LEDs are bright enough for light room and the glow is still visible.

Cons:

-If you play in a dark room, LEDs are bright, but I didn't mind it.

-Matching Nunchuks are not as good as the Afterglow Remote or Nintendo Brand Nunchuk

Overall:

Awesome product, cheaper than Nintendo brand and looks ten times better. Buy regular nunchuk and be happy the remote glows!

We bought this b/c we needed a new remote, and it was cheaper than the regular one and cool looking to boot. It works well, no problems with syncing it to the Wii (the Gamestop owner told me some people had problems w/that-I think he just wanted the extra $10).

Pros:

-easy to sync

-cool looking

-rechargeable battery bought for regular Wii remote works in it

-cheaper than Nintendo brand remote

Cons:

-For some games, like when I have remote turned sideways, the lights are distracting. But I can't remember how to turn off the lights! (threw out the booklet)

-because buttons are in slightly different places, it can be confusing to switch back and forth between remote types

-hard to read buttons when lights are on (writing is in white)

The typical problem with the RROD is an inability to get heat away from the GPU via insufficient airflow to the GPU heatsink. Over time, this results in solder separating from the motherboard into solder balls effectively telling the CPU that there is a hardware failure and thus, you get the red lights in quadrants 1, 3, and 4. The folks peddling these screws and nylon washers are advertising essentially that installing fatter screws directly to the chassis will fix your problem. IT WILL NOT FIX YOUR PROBLEM IN AND OF ITSELF AND THESE FOLKS SHOULD BE DISCLOSING THIS FACT. The actual fix will cost you more money than these screws alone.

Product Problems

(1) Microsoft has redesigned the GPU heatsink so that there is additional cooling. Much more cooling. The screws don't even remotely compare to Mr Softy's fix for getting heat away from the GPU. You will most probably have another RROD failure w/in a couple of weeks as I did by using the fatter screws alone. THESE FOLKS WON'T TELL YOU THIS. The xbox 360 is a product with a marginal design defect in the GPU cooling. If you look in the chassis, the fan draws lots of air through the CPU heatsink but minimal air through the GPU heatsink because it resides underneath the DVD drive. This Microsoft heatsink redesign is what is actually needed to bring the design within specifications. LARGER/FATTER SCREWS ALONE WON'T SOLVE YOUR LONGER TERM HEAT DISSIPATION PROBLEM. MOREOVER, REPEATEDLY OVERHEATING THE GPU DUE TO INSUFFICIENTLY REPAIRED HARDWARE RISKS KILLING THE GPU AND THUS THE MOTHERBOARD ALTOGETHER. If you really want this solution to work, buy the newer heatsink in addition to these screws. It'll cost you another $25 but how many times do you want to rip apart your xbox 360 reflowing solderballs?

(2) The product instructions for the supposed 85-90% of the fixes in many situations do not sufficiently reflow the solderballs beneath the GPU. What's worse is that they deliberately overheat the CPU to the point of turning off power to both the CPU and GPU via the thermistor in the CPU overheating. Insufficient reflow will cause intermittent lockups when you think you've fixed your xbox 360. Your xbox 360 will tell you it's fixed via a normal startup, but you will now get frequent lockups and have to restart the machine. Talk about maddening frustration. The xbox 360 may lock up in 5 minutes, 10 minutes, or 30 minutes. It is hard to say if the solderballs haven't sufficiently reflowed.

(3) The product instructions for the "hardest 10%" only overheat the GPU for 10-15 or so minutes. THIS MAY NOT BE LONG ENOUGH EITHER! This timeline should probably be extended to 30-45 or so minutes.

(4) I had to go through fixing my xbox 360 three times using this product. The first time I fixed it using the "normal" procedure and had frequent lockups. The second time I fixed using the "hardest 10%" in the end of the repair pdf manual but this time, I overheated the GPU for 40 minutes as Llama says to do. (Note: It's interesting that he says less that 30 minutes is insufficient. I found this to be an accurate statement.) This resulted in robust operation for a full two weeks. I had no lockups but nonetheless ended up with another RROD failure. The final time:

(a) I replaced my GPU heatsink with the newer design for $25,

(b) I replaced the chassis fan for $20, (this probably wasn't worth it)

(c) I added a fan for the new GPU heatsink itself for $30, and

(4) I again overheated the GPU for 40 minutes.

This cost me $85 ($75 for parts, $10 for shipping) in addition to the $25 for this kit. The newer heatsink was probably the only mandatory thing I needed but I wasn't taking any chances on this last go around. Doing it again, I'd buy the new heatsink and the fan which directly cools the extention to the new heatsink for around $55 ($45 for parts, $10 for shipping) in addition to this kit which is another $25.

Conclusion: The folks selling this kit remind me of the folks selling defectively designed products from China and what's worse is that they wasted a bunch of my time. I lost time not only tearing the unit apart and reassembling, but in contemplating what the hell was wrong, interacting with them on their boards, etc. If they would have disclosed the actual hardware I needed to replace IN ADDITION TO THE SCREW/NYLON WASHER setup and included proper instructions, I would have only done this one time as I followed their instructions very meticulously.

This was a really handy kit. I didn't need hardly anything else to fix my Xbox 360, except for a kitchen knife. It's got everything listed in the James Dean Three Red Light Fix guide that you will need. I was super skeptical about the whole thing at first, but it was the highest rated fix online, and I didn't want to have to buy a new Xbox so I gave it a shot. The video tutorial (which you have to buy separately unfortunately) is very detailed and easy to follow, plus there's a pdf guide if you get confused. It did take me a lot longer than an hour to fix mine, because apparently I hadn't tightened the screws enough the first time around, but once I figured that out, I did everything just how they explained it and my Xbox started right up after cooling. I've been playing Assassin's Creed on it non-stop since, and it has worked perfectly. No over-heating or red lights or anything. If you're having over-heating issues, I would definitely recommend purchasing this kit as well as the instruction guide (), and also installing a better fan, since the factory one isn't great. Definitely saved me from buying a whole new Xbox. I spent $50 instead of $300. Pretty good deal.

Skylanders Spyro's Adventure Pack - Darklight Crypt Review

Skylanders Spyro's Adventure Pack - Darklight Crypt
Customer Ratings: 4.5 stars
Buy Now
I'm not sure what the other reviewers are talking about, but I have played Skylanders extensively, with and without my preschooler. The game itself is a lot of fun to play, and $20 is not a lot of money to pay for 4 collectible figures and an additional chapter inside the game that provides a new hat and soul gems for other characters. The adventure itself is not terribly difficult, but was a lot of fun with novel gameplay elements of the "living world" and the "spirit world" and the need to switch between these to change abilities of enemies, enable the collection of items, and the opening of doors. Essentially the entire chapter is a puzzle, and it was a lot of fun.

Contrary to the reviews suggesting you can just by the character seperately, you cannot, not at this time anyways. The included character, Ghost Roaster (who is not available individually at this time), is by far the most fun, and possibly overpowered character I've used so far. He is a melee undead character, and his special ability is turning into a laughing, flaming skull that plows through any emenies or breakables in his path. I use this as a primary attack since it is so good, and I also use it to move quickly around the chapters since it moves at about 3 times the speed of normal walking. After training, enemies killed will produce ghosts that also attack enemies, and can eventually be consumed by Roaster to heal damage. Great character.

Also included are the Time Twister and Healing potion. While I haven't had the need or the curiousity to use the Twister yet, the Healing potion is an invaluable tool that any serious player will want at his/her disposal. It is not an instant heal, but rather has a HoT effect, and there is a fixed duration of the HoT you can apply per chapter. I haven't depleted it or performed quantitative measure on the amount of HP it heals, but if is more than enough to save you when you are getting clobbered or need to recover before a boss fight.

The negative reviews for this item come from people complaining about the price. This is a $20 character/adventure pack. They are all $20 from ToysRUs. If you do not have a TRU near you, buy at their website if you don't like the price on Amazon. Don't rate the item 1 star because you don't like the price. This is a very good expansion with one of the best/most fun characters I've played to date, novel and fun chapter, and a healing potion. Maybe if the other reviewers had actually played the expansion, they could have given it a fair review.

We have all collectively put over 10 hours bordering 20 into this game(and have beaten it) so i feel as though i have a good perspective on all the characters, adventure packs, etc. I would definitely recommend buying this adventure pack for your Skylander family. Ghost Roaster isn't one of our favorites but i would buy this expansion(essentially thats what it is) because it gives you an extra chapter to play in the game, and the two accessories are very handy. The elixir(on the bottom right of the packaging) gives your skylanders health over a short period of time. You can remove the elixir from the portal of power before its time is up, and use the remaining portion for a later time. You get a full elixir at the beginning of each new chapter and once its run out, you're done for that chapter. The Time Turner(on the top right) slows down time for everything in the game except for you(and your teammate). It also only lasts a short amount of time and is very useful for boss fights. Of the two, i'd saw the elixir is more useful, we use it much more often. As for the bonus level, it took us about 15 min to get through and collect all of the items. For our family, we think it was well worth the $20 since we love the game. If you're a parent buying it for your child, it isn't completely necessary to complete the game...but it makes it just that much better! Your kid will be very happy with it!

The best piece of advice i can offer if you're new to the game: GET AT LEAST ONE OF EVERY CHARACTER TYPE BEFORE YOU BEGIN!!! You need certain elements to get past gates and having all the character elements is key. This includes: Wind, life, undead, water, earth, magic, fire and tech.

Best Deals for Skylanders Spyro's Adventure Pack - Darklight Crypt

I've gotten Ghost Roaster, and he is an excellent Undead Skylander (plus it's fun to hear his psychotic cackle when he's in skull-mode). I had difficulty finding on the ruins map, at first, but once I played it, it was both fun and challenging. This level is one giant puzzle, and you have to switch between the real world and the "Ghost World" with these "day/night" platforms called Spectral Shifters.

Your mission is to find out why a plump, jolly pie baker is losing all his ghostly customers (since they actually enjoyed eating his pies over... well... eating brains. WHAT?! They're undead!). There is also a boss fight (of sorts), and though it may not be an epic fight, the music that comes with the battle IS (the music used for the Eruptor, Lightning Rod, and Cynder demos, among a few more).

Additionally, both the healing elixir and the time twister are handy (the Time Twister is good for characters with slow, close-range move characters, like Stump Smash, or Bash).

I mentioned in the Pirate Seas level (in a response) that beating that level gives you a mini-game; For Darklight Crypt... you get additional food for healing (here's a hint for the hip as to what kind of food it is: "Everybody loves *noun with three letters*")

Honest reviews on Skylanders Spyro's Adventure Pack - Darklight Crypt

I have played this game a lot with my son over Christmas break and can assure you that THIS IS AN AWESOME ADVENTURE PACK! We have made it through 18 of the 22 levels with these tools on board. My son is 6 and I am not an avid gamer. Ghost Roaster is eventually one of the fastest; strongest kick butt characters out there with upgrades. He is a green, glowing skull that has an evil laugh as he attacks through everything. He was invaluable in the undead world and I don't know if we could have made it through with Hex alone (she wasn't upgraded and quickly dies in the beginning). Ghost Roaster has become a pleasant surprise, he quickly became one of our strongest characters. We have 25 out of 32 total characters of which 6 aren't released yet and Ignitor is sold in the Nintendo DS starter pack with the game. The Healing Potion keeps you from dying in a boss battle which is nice because you lose the ability to meet your objectives for that level when you die. The Time Twister we hesitated to use when we first got it because I thought it would make us redo the battle (that we were currently in) from the beginning. To my pleasant surprise this is not the case at all. The Time Twister simply makes your opponents slow way down in speed while you proceed to attack at a normal speed. It's like your character is on steroids and your opponents ate too much pasta before the battle. I have to honestly say we haven't moved through the additional level of the "Darklight Crypt" yet.. I am sort of tired of the undead eerie stuff at the moment (my son doesn't like that part much). I would gladly pay $20.00 for Ghost Roaster, Time Twister, and the Healing Elixir alone. If I had to make a choice for my #1 UNDEAD character at this point it would be Ghost Roaster!

SIDE NOTE: I got the BradyGames Strategy guide in this week and can further tell you that there are a total of 4 Adventure packs that will be released. They are Pirate Seas with Terrafin (Rock element), Darklight Crypt with Ghost Roaster (Undead element), another called Dragon's Peak with Sunburn (Fire element), and Empire of Ice with Slam Bam (Water element). These characters will only be available in the adventure packs. I hope these others are as cool as Ghost Roaster.

UPDATE:

WE HAVE BOUGHT AND PLAYED THE FOUR ADVENTURE PACKS THAT HAVE BEEN RELEASED; IN MY OPINION THIS ONE WAS THE BEST!

We couldn't have made it through all the levels without Ghost Roaster, the Healing Potion, Time Twister and I think that the Darklight Crypt was the most challenging bang for the buck level! It also has the best Magic Items. Dragon's Peak would be my second choice if I had to decide..but it's a close call to Pirate Seas. Dragon's Peak is challenging because of the critical hit impact of the fire etc. along the way. The winged boot gives your characters the ability to run (not fly) extremely fast for a brief period of time and ..I am embarrassed to admit.. I just discoved that you can use the extra Magic Items that come with the Advanture Packs during the Heroic Challenges.. Pirate Seas would be my third choice mainly due to how cool Terrafin is..none of the other characters can swim underground. Pirate Seas isn't that challenging from a "fighting" aspect. There are battles..don't get me wrong..but the hardest part for us was just getting through one of the areas that contains a hat and some treasure. It has some memory card games here and there but my son in kindergarten hasn't had to repeat any of them. The Ghost Swords are pretty cool too..we have used them in many final battles and they are even handy in the new iPhone app game called "Skylanders Cloud Patrol". Empire of Ice should have been released before Christmas..the "bad guys" wear SANTA HATS??? It was pretty cool but my number one complaint was that it was just too easy and quick. My Kindergarten son completed it in less than 30 min all by himself. I like Slam Bam pretty well out of our 33 Skylanders, but I would have liked to be able to just pay $9 for him alone.

"SKYLANDERS GIANTS" WILL BE RELEASED IN OCTOBER 2012!!!!!!!!!

The current figures will still work within it. SOME of the characters from the original release will be getting a re-pose!! The re-poses will work in both the original Skylanders game and the new "Giants" version. The series 2 re-poses will work in both versions of the games too, but the series 2 versions will have additional powers within the Giants version. GHOST ROASTER IS NOT GETTING A RE-POSE! It says online that the Adventure Packs will open an additional level within the "Giants" version. There won't be any new Adventure Packs, just two Battle Packs that will have an additional PVP arena in them (I'm guessing based on the fact that the first one released has an additional arena in it). BUY IT NOW!

SKYLANDERS III IN 2013! It sounds like a lot of the "phased out" figures that weren't brought back for Skylanders Giants will come back in 2013. Ghost Roaster might be one of them.. but if you can get him now I would for the simple use of his extra level for Skylanders Giants, and the two magic items. I don't have "Eye Brawl" the new giant ...but I do have the rest available at this time and Ghost Roaster and Cynder are two of my Undead Favorites still.

For those of you, like me, that came into the Skylanders world a little late (I just started after Christmas 2012), have hope! I was very sad to see what this Adventure Pack was selling for online. I had almost convinced myself to pay the outrageous prices in order to get it, because the reviews I had read made it sound like so much fun!

However, persistence did pay off, and I can confirm that this item is NOT out of print. It's just very difficult to find, perhaps because the scalpers are buying them all up and selling them online. I went to my local Target store on MLK day a week ago (2013), and I was beside myself with excitement to see this Adventure Pack on the shelf (along with Dragon's Peak, which I picked up for my sister). It had not been there days before, so they obviously got a new shipment in, and this was in it! And it was just the normal MSRP ($19.99), same as the other Adventure Packs.

As for the game play, it's a fun level because the "twist" for this level is changing between the Ghost World and the Real World. Some bad guys are Statues in the Real World (and easy to shatter), but in Ghost World they are powerful enemies. Stone blocks are blocking your path in the Ghost World, but move in the Real World. So there's a really enjoyable puzzle-type aspect to it, where you need to take note of your surroundings and sometimes even backtrack to be able to move forward in the level.

I highly recommend this Adventure Pack, but I also recommend you try to just find it at your local stores. It may just take some time.

I've never been one to give long reviews, so I don't plan on starting here. To begin I would like to say while this game is obviously a little rough, with combat that isn't amazing (I would liken it to Dragon Age: Origins)a story that isn't completely ground breaking, it still has a great atmosphere that makes you wan't to see the game to it's end.

The game starts you off as an Elite Orc warrior named Arkail, who is given a task by an elite Orc group he's a part of (sorry no spoilers.) So you begin the adventure, and meet up with a Goblin named Styx, who is essentially the "comic relief" of the game, who chimes in to add his quirky two cents often.

The Pros:

-A nice atmosphere that makes you really push for the usual "Bad guy" in fantasy series. (Honestly I've always been a fan of Orcs)

-The chance to be a giant Orc warrior makes you feel powerful, and throughout the game you really get a sense of pride for the people you fight for.

-Combat isn't amazing, but it is compelling in the sense that you really have to watch what's going on, otherwise you could end up dead really fast.

-A story that drives you forward, with a nice couple of twists and turns that you don't expect, or are rather intrigued by how they implemented certain things.

-Dialogue options make you feel in charge of what's going on for the most part.

-The graphics aren't ground breaking, but they are pretty good by my standards.

The Cons:

-Bad voice acting can ruin immersion at times, the two main characters are well voiced, but lackluster acting by most non-important npc's makes you feel like everyone is rather boring.

-All Orcs besides Arkail have retarded voices, they needed to have a gritty, deep tone, instead many have these silly voices that sound like an old woman with a dry throat.

-Combat isn't amazing, and hopefully this game gathers enough support so that the company can fit together a better combat engine.

Overall the game took me about 15 hours to complete, which is better than what many game companies spew forth. While it isn't the Elder Scrolls with a possible 400 hours worth of game play, it is definitely worth playing and makes you feel proud to say that you beat it.

-Expect a sequel, considering the game hinted at one.

I was afraid to pick this one up after Game of Thrones, since they are both from the same studio, but I really enjoyed this game. The story was interesting with several twists and turns, the two main characters were really fun to carry throughout the game. The banter and relationship between them is quite unique. The gameplay, while not the deepest, is strategic and fun. The level design is somewhat, well, completely linear. This didn't detract from anything for me since there are plenty of open-world rpgs out there. One gripe I had was that when you assassinated someone, their corpse didn't set off any alarms to the surviving patrols. they would simply walk right over them as if they weren't there. Aside from that, I had a blast playing Of Orcs and Men, and would recommend it to anyone interested in a good story driven rpg that has you playing a character you normally wouldn't in such a setting.

Cyanide et.al. has several games with the same engine now. These games are all mostly story telling games when the focus is story, and tactics using skills during battle. At first I was not sure I would like this new subgenre of game but it is turning out reasonably good. Something different from a dungeon crawl anyway.

the key to these games is

1. good story

2. good interface

3. several varied options to fighting style

These games tend to offer all in reasonable proportions and OOAM does too. Overall it was a good game, especially when had on sale.

Steam tells me my total game play was 14 hours. A bit short. Its not like I skipped any of the side quests as there are not that many. Nothing is perfect. Some of the plot twists were a bit predictable and shallow. But the voice acting was very good which means a lot to such a game. I think the industry has finally developed a reservoir of good voice talent to draw upon. Serious actors providing believability to the action.

One thing people might miss is inventory variability. There simply is not much happening in this game by way of inventory. There are a few good pieces and once you find them you keep them. I ended up with 18 inventory points left over at the end of the game so there might have been more that could be done there. But it is not integral to the game play so I guess this is why that part of it is minimal.

Like I said a good play. Hope these guys have more of their style games coming soon. Remember cyanide, choose a good story with interesting plot twists and side plots, get good voice actors, make sure there is some interesting potential combos during fighting, especially where the two characters can co-operation. Love the time slowdown feature.

Honest reviews on Of Orcs And Men

Although this game is far from perfect, I decided it deserves 5 stars for being the sort of video game that I most enjoy. Its redeemable qualities include:

1. A unique, engaging storyline The story could be adapted, almost without variation, into a movie or novel. The plot is fun and resolves with moderate twists into a satisfying conclusion. The world itself isn't super developed. Don't expect long histories or codex entries in the vein of Dragon Age, but there's enough background to convey a sense of realism. It's also extremely linear. No open world. There are fixed maps and few choices. (There's a few, but they don't affect the outcome that much.) I actually don't consider this a bad thing. I enjoy feeling like I've explored all the content, and I'd rather the game developers focused on giving me (at least) one good story rather than a handful of short, boring, or inconsequential ones.

2. Strong characters The game features two well developed heroes, who diverge from the average protagonist types (although they do fit into their own stereotypes). The orc and the goblin play off each other wonderfully, and the dialogue between them is fun to watch. Side characters aren't too shabby either, with a few exceptions. Even the villains, if a trifle cliche, are interesting.

3. Turn-based combat I'm likely in the minority in my love of slow turn-based tactics. So don't despair, you can play the game with all the action packed, reflex-based button pouncing you desire. But optionally, if you press the space bar, time is suspended and you can make your attack choices at your leisure. I really enjoyed the combat set-up. I thought I would miss not playing a magic user (despite magic existing in-game, you don't actually have access to it), but the tank and damage dealer combo was ultimately satisfying. And challenging too!

As for drawbacks, the characters have very little customization. Skill options are somewhat limited. New gear is hard to come by. The graphics are good to average. (That's not a drawback, I suppose. But there were no scenes that took my breath away, such as, for example, every single shot of Witcher 2.)

All in all, Of Orcs and Men does not stand up in scope to some of the other phenomenal games in its genre. But it is a solid good game. If I could find 10 more like it, I would buy them all.

I like Orcs, and a friend knowing my fascination with Orcs recommended to me Of Orcs and Men, so the other day I picked it up from Amazon. I tried playing it last night, and was so frustrated, I quit not very far in.

1) It starts out with a tutorial, which is great, but in the tutorial, it stops the action and tells you how to do something, like pull up the combat action screen. Here is what the tutorial says: "Press to bring up the combat actions to change your action and to slow down the fight so you can pick different actions" (not exact wording). Yep, doesn't tell you WHAT to press. Nope. So I decide because there is no back or replay button on the tutorial that I will quit the game, and start again, maybe thinking I missed something....

2) The game so far has almost non-stop conversations: You can not quit during these conversations, so I kept trying to speed through them to get to a place that allowed me to quit the game, no such luck...

3) The game would not allow me to bring up the menu screen at all at any time that I could see I tried ESC and the F1, which is what the tutorial told me would bring up the menu screen. So, the only way I could actually quit the game was to either force it to close by rebooting my computer or going in through the task manager...

4) Guess what? The task manager is pushed to the background so even if you open it, it wouldn't allow me to get to it. The game kept popping up in front. I finally finageled (used the windows key) it so I could get to the task manager.

5) It annoys me intensely when I can't choose the gender of my character and must accept what they give me, which is basically a male Orc. Great, I get the Orc part, but it is inherent bias in game designers to make one only able to pick male. Hello Game Designers: Women also play video games. I know, hard to believe, but we do. Consider that when making your game environment because it doesn't make sense to alienate a good portion of your audience.

6) It also mildly irritates me that I can't pick how my character looks, not that big of a deal, but still.

7) The Orc's look odd in that their skin texture looks weird, like a beat-up suite case died green. Also, surprisingly the graphics are pretty basic in this game: pretty cartoonish and rough. I guess Skyrim and Dragon Age spoiled me with beautiful graphics.

8) As the other reviewer states, the voice acting could be much better.

9) The download from Amazon was incredibly slooooooooowww It said it would take about 30 minutes to 1.5 hours. It actually took more almost 12 hours. Granted our DSL internet is not the best, but still, it was very slow.

I will probably try the game again, afterall, I did spend $40 on it, but so far, not even 10 minutes into the game, and it has frustrated me beyond belief.
