when i bought this game..i gritted my teeth at the counter when i purchased it, i was actually feeling a little embarrased that i was buying a game based on a movie..which we all know 95% are terrible..BUT...i was surprised to find out..it is one of the better games made from a movie..there are plenty of flaws yes...the combat ..the lighting..(hard to see at times)..repetitive puzzles..BUT..i couldnt stop playing, it was fun..addictive..i wanted to see what happened next..the other reviews explained this game rather well..ill cut it short and say, if you like saw movies and if you like survival horror, silent hill type games, you will enjoy it..the ending was cool..passing grade from what i expected..

Let me start off by saying that I am only about an hour into the game, but have so far been pleasantly surprised! The controls are very good and the puzzles are interesting (if not a little bit simple at times, mind you I started on the easiest level...there are only two). What surprised me the most was the fact that the game is not simply puzzled based but rather includes a bit of platforming and combat. As far as the games relationship to the movies, it has the same gritty feel and sense of urgency (when it comes to the traps and devices) that the films have. So far I am loving it!

Best Deals for SAW - Xbox 360

The Saw franchise and I have a long history dating back to before the first Saw film was released. I had seen the trailers for it on Bloody-Disgusting and thought it looked awesome, so opening night I was in line, 16 years old, for the movie that redefined torture movies for many.

Now Saw is far from original, of course. If you look at the big picture, the story was already done many years before (and done better) with David Fincher's dark, gritty, and amazing film, Se7en. But Saw was welcomed into the world with open arms and for what it was, it was good. In fact, I walked out of the theater almost blown away by what I had just seen.

Come six years and five (almost six) sequels later, the Saw series is now looked upon as a joke by many. For instance, in an episode of Two And A Half Men there is a sequence with one of the characters dreaming of the future out front of a movie theater and there is a poster for Saw 27. Hilarious. But the films have been getting gradually gorier and gorier, so the fact that a game was made and ultimately released was really no surprise.

What was a surprise, however, is that it's actually a DECENT game.

Now of course this game has it's huge flaws. The biggest one would have to be the combat. It's absolutely terrible. The buttons are unresponsive and for controlling an ex police officer, you would think that he'd be better at using a firearm. Heavy weapons are pretty much useless to even attempt, because by the time you swing you're already half dead from attacks from your enemy. If they needed to improve on at least one aspect of the game, it's this one.

The second bad part would have to be the irritation that the game will induce. The puzzles are often on a timer, but the solutions are often very, very difficult and nearly impossible at times to do in the time limit, which will cause many deaths and many retries and only mount the frustration the player feels at the game. There have been several times that I have shut the console off due to irritation, and it makes it really hard to really want to keep playing the game when you can't get anywhere.

The voice acting is also pretty bad, minus of course Tobin Bell as Jigsaw. None of the other actors returned to reprise their roles, and it shows. It's not a pretty voice soundtrack at all.

The graphics aren't terrible, but they're not wonderful either, but they are passable. I rather enjoy them.

Now with all the bad, there is some good. The story is captivating and regardless of the irritation that the puzzles offer, it still makes you want to keep going just to see what happens next. It's worth it in the long run if you're a fan of the films as I am, but if you're not, it's not worth your time.

Honest reviews on SAW - Xbox 360

While I eagerly awaited the Saw video game with baited breath, whats come out, while decent, is neither enthralling nor original.

The graphics are alright, though considering Konami had three years of Silent Hill under their belt, they'd have been able to make the game scarier. While I was expecting mostly startle scares, even those are few and far between. Some parts of the building are good and well polished, but after you see the same medical cabinet four hundred times, you wonder why it took so long to pop out this puppy.

Audio is also rather sad. While some environmental effects were well done, the voices were not the original characters, and they couldn't find decent replacements, with the exception of Jigsaw. The tapes are delivered in the familiar gritty monotone. NPC voices are a bit better, and the enemies who want to avoid you even more so, they're not enough to make up for the main cast.

Gameplay is extremely hit and miss. The game helps you out periodically by making it rather easy to avoid combat, either through initiating traps of your own, or bolting enemies into locked areas. Both rather slick, but delivered too blatantly. You get forty lockpicks and health packs, but can only carry three of each. While its nice that they don't make you comb earlier portions of levels for hours looking for the lone missing nail you need, it doesn't sit well that you can only swing three. The puzzles are rinse and reuse, basic tracer games and a few gear boxes, but nothing you haven't seen before. The few unique puzzles thus far are strange and overly simplistic. There are too many deus ex machina moments as well. After getting grabbed by pighead 3 times, you'd think you'd be ready the fourth and fifth time.

Combat is also a real let down. Given the plethora of weapons and health items, you'd think that this game would really put you through your paces, but enemies are made of spun crystal. This is countered by you apparently having polio, or bags of sand tied to your hands. Your attack speed is pathetic, and its almost easier to fight hand to hand than risk picking up a weapon.

Overall, if you like the movies, you'll like the atmosphere and the spin this game tries to evoke. Why they handed off some of the most crucial elements to the interns I'll never understand though. Between Silent Hill and a handful of other gritty horror games they had to choose from, they decided to try modeling it after RE 4/5, which was an awful setup the first time it was tried.

The game is really detailed. Great scene design and really makes you feel like your playing one of the movies. It's like a really long haunted house.

The only real difference in setting between the game and the movies are 2 things:

1) You are in an insane asylum with multiple people after you.

2) There is not the typical "start as a group to escape and only 1 or 2 survive" there is no group it is just you.

The biggest problem with this game can be found in:

1) The traps and such are great, but the deaths are not very realistic or graphically committed and compare to the 1990's Doom.

2) There seems to be a delay in response time when you press a button; the first 5 times you run into an enemy and try to shut and lock a door you will be surprised when the enemy magically floats through after you no matter how hard or fast you mash the X button.

3) The above same mentioned delay can be felt in combat mode, when you try to use a weapon (and there are weapons all over) to fight an attacker, it is like you are underwater while the enemy is hopped up on crack and mountain dew. It's better to use your fists than a weapon as you most certainly will have your ass handed to you unless their back is turned.

*Overall it's a great game and I'm happy I gave it a chance.

For anyone out there that is thinking of picking this up. It does work on Windows 7. The installation is a little tricky but it does work.

To install you must do the following:

1. Open cd in explorer window.

2. Go to Software folder

3. Right click on InstallGB.exe and select properties

4. Go to compatability tab

5. Select run in Windows XP (SP3) and run as admin press ok

6. Go to Intervideo folder

7. Do the same for setup.exe

8. Go back and run InstallGB.exe

9. Plug in device when asked and follow install prompts.

Should work just fine now. I had no problems with my install. Worked on the first try. I never was able to get this thing to work properly on XP or Vista due to lack of PC power. Runs beautifully on my Win 7 system. Quality of video capture is nothing to write home about but it does the trick.

This product does work with windows 7 and vista, but not the 64-bit versions. In a 64-bit environment, the only way to install this is using vmware or another virtual operating system program to install and run a 32 bit system (guest). Install the Gamebridge to the 32-bit guest system and it works at full speed on a relatively new computer.

I purchased this little gadget several months ago. I really enjoy using the Gamebridge. It is both simple and reliable. I am able to record and preserve video gameplay just when I want and end it when I want to. It works like a digital onscreen VCR (through the software) and if you are an avid gamer, you need a product like this. Though the only thing to be aware of, this product does not have drivers and support for the VISTA operating system. Only if you use Windows XP or Windows 2000 can you use the device. I am one of those PC owners who still has not made the switch from XP to VISTA. Yet I am happy with XP. So looks like I will be keeping XP around a lot longer. Haha! This product is non-nonsense in setting up, plus it is small and not a clutter issue. I recommend it. I use my Gamebridge device to connect to my 15.4 inch screen laptop computer via a USB port. My Nintendo Wii is my most used game machine alongside my laptop. Its neat as the Wii is space saving along with the laptop, which makes things very portable. For some of the videos I have, check my profile page at youtube dot com. Timothy2035 is my screen name.

It doesn't work in 64-bit anything because the drivers are 32-bit only. They always have and will be since Adaptec isn't supporting this anymore. I got it to work on 64-bit Windows 7 by installing VMware Player 3.1 (it's free) and then installing Windows XP Pro SP3 as a VM using the USB passthrough feature. Video performance was the same as it was on my older XP laptop...no lag. Win! I still have a LEGAL version of XP, so your mileage may vary depending on if you do or not. Dualbooting is also another option for some. Personally, XP just blue-screens on install on my machine before it even gets through the first file copy part. Maybe it's my i7 mobile, but who cares, the VM works and I don't have to reboot.

If you are skeptical about buying this package deal, have no worries! My wife and I weren't sure if the pad itself would work as much as the other pads we have had (the plug-and-play brands). But we were wrong. These are the things that we love about the pad:

1. It's size gives a perfect and comfortable dance experience

2. The arrows are big enough so you don't miss them

3. When you dance on the pad, it does what it supposed to do...without any glitches.

4. On the bottom of the pad, it has a slip-resistant materialso when you dance, it doesn't slip!

5. On top of the pad, the arrows and menu buttons have a more rubber slip-resistant material; so when you are dancing hard-core, you're not slipping.

As for the games, both have great graphics. One of the things that we like about them is that they have different modes of play (approximately 4-5 on each game). Another plus is the Workout modeyou can choose what kind of workout you want, the pace, and such.

Besides the games, the songs are awesome! Between the two games, you have approximately over 120 songs...which is a PLUS!

Note: Some of the things that we didn't like were some of the songs...there were some punk-rock/gothic music (which we just muted the sound). Also, there was a picture of a gothic face in the background. Last but least, there is movement in the background...which sometimes makes it hard to stay focused on the arrows (for me, it wasn't a problem...but it was for my wife). So, in other words, each person as a like and dislike.

Overall, if you want a great deal for the dance pad + entertainment, this is what I recommend for such a great package with an awesome price!

The Tiger Woods PGA Tour series has been solid if unspectacular this generation carrying with it somewhat limited appeal. Hampered by a heavy reliance on downloadable content the justification to purchase yearly has waned considerably.

That won't necessarily change with Tiger Woods 14. People who play yearly may not find as much value as novices. However for those who have skipped recent versions or who would be new to the series it can be easily recommended.

While Tiger Woods 12 had the compelling draw of The Masters for the first time, and Tiger 13 attempted to create a new experience with the Legacy Challenge, it would take travelling many years farther in the past to find a golf game that captured my attention in the way that Tiger 14 has. Any assumption that a gimmicky element would be needed to create interest has been proven wrong by a product that simply delivers realistic and satisfying gameplay as accompanied by a rich and involving feature set. Feel free to check out a few gameplay videos (Career, Legends of the Majors, Live Tournament) on the Pastapadre Youtube Channel.

One very successful element introduced in Tiger 14 is the "Swing Style" feature which gives each current golfer a more personalized feel along with the ability to craft a swing style when creating new golfers. Now each individual is classified in the following categories: Type (Power or Control), Shape (Draw or Fade), Trajectory (Low, Medium, or High), and Handedness (Left or Right). The tutorial helps in getting a feel for some of the differences and the selection screen explains the choices. They can be changed later if so desired. Draws and fades are manageable this year but it can still be difficult to nail that stick movement.

Legends of the Majors is the flashy new mode for this year. It involves playing through events from history within the confines of the time they took place. That means playing with the legends, old course designs, and equipment. The visual filter defines those time periods but feels out of place in a sense given the experience is otherwise all from the golfer's perspective.

Some of the challenges are fairly easy like re-creating a shot, while others take more work such as matching a performance over several holes or a round. Whether they are overly frustrating or just tough remains to be determined. There are 62 challenges overall and most are worthwhile but there are some that clearly could have been omitted. Why am I being asked to play in 1922 as Rory McIlroy against Keegan Bradley? Legends of the Majors is a decent distraction and going through the history of the sport is a valuable journey but it's not something that will hold much value outside of the initial play through.

The Live Tournaments online have been enhanced by adding more of the social element that had been lacking last year. There is of course still the traditional ways to play online but the Tournaments now offer the ability to see the shot arcs for up to an active 24 players on a hole and include group voice chat. I have no expectation of ever winning a public tournament, and that can still be discouraging in a sense, but setting them up with Clubs or friends makes for a fun experience regardless of performance level. Country Clubs have been expanded to 100 members and that too now features chat functionality.

Other additions of note are the LPGA tour, "Simulation" difficulty, and varied tee times that include night golf. Playing in nighttime conditions is more than just the darkness as the sound effects from the environment like the chirping birds are gone. It just has a new feel to it like playing on the historic courses provides in Legends of the Majors. EA probably should have taken sunglasses off golfers who wear them though when it turns dark out. I would not be the right person to assess the "Simulation" setting but from all other accounts it appears to provide the experience very talented players have been looking for.

Presentation would appear to be the weakness of Tiger 14. The commentary is bland, overly generic, and occasionally incorrect. The camera angles range from satisfactory to downright horrible. Quite often after taking a shot particularly when putting it immediately cuts to a camera angle that makes it impossible to actually tell what is happening. They may be meant to enhance the drama but all they do is remove oneself from the moment. The on-screen informational displays do well to communicate information with the leaderboard, scorecards, and Country Club stats but others seem pretty pointless especially when the statistical leaders for a category are all the people who have yet to tee off.

Last year's method of being able to earn DLC courses through time spent playing has been removed due to heavy criticism and problems with the implementation on the PS3. Though not necessarily the wrong decision EA should have provided some alternate method that worked instead of falling back on the old way of doing things where the only way to obtain them is by spending significant chunks of money.

While the enjoyment being had with Tiger 14 may be partially attributed to having not invested much time with the series over the course of the generation and particularly last year which just fell flat and was pushed aside quickly it can't be discounted due to just that. The addictive nature of the gameplay and strong depth of content could be realized by many. Tiger 14′s additions and improvements have the merit to be appreciated by the both the hardcore and more casual crowds and that is a balance that has been tough to come by in the past.

***HISTORIC EDITION*** Includes six courses and a playable Bobby Jones not found in the standard version. For the $10 difference the value is there if the courses are important or would have been bought as downloadable content otherwise as the Historic Upgrade package is $20 through Xbox Live Marketplace/PlayStation Network Store.

I've played Tiger Woods PGA Tour games on my Xbox for many years. There have been some ups and some downs (yeck...remember the caddie?) So I went into this not expecting to be impressed, given some of the things I've read about servers being down and game bugs galore. I can honestly say that, a month after the official release, I've experienced none of that.

Instead, I found a golf game that's quite possibly the best Tiger Woods PGA Tour game, ever! Yep, I really really like this game. It combines all the good parts of past TW PGA Tour games and none of the bad. You even get--count 'em--a generous serving of 25 golf courses included (in the Historic Edition)! Better still, unlike the last Masters edition I bought, if you don't have the course that's next on the tour, no problem. You're not forced to buy the course, you can simply substitute an existing one to your tournament.

Pin Packs, which are collectible pins that boost your stats for a round, are available at the Store, but you don't have to buy them if you don't want to, and you don't have to feel you're missing out on something if you don't. In fact, after I purchased a Pin Pack just to see what it was, I haven't bought any since. I don't need them to play. You can purchase Pin Packs with either MS points, or with game coins earned from playing.

Country Clubs are back. Start your own or join an existing one, reap the benefits of club bonuses with friends. Plus now, Night Golf! There's even an achievement called "Find the Werewolf"! (google this for a Youtube video)

I find the golf mechanics are pretty much perfect this time around, from the swing meter to the putting, although sometimes the camera on the putting surface is in the wrong position. There's a demo available on Xbox live so you can see for yourself. By far, the best feature of the Historic Edition is the ability to play against legends from the past. This is presented in scratchy sepia tone and is just so much fun to see the old courses, clothes and of course, golf clubs--cleeks, jiggers, and baffing spoons etc.

If you're an armchair golfer who has played past TW PGA Tour games and are on the fence with this one, give the demo a try. I did, then I came right back to Amazon to purchase it! Great golf game!

Game play is great, but the game is plagued with a lot of bugs at this point. I have read that a patch has been sent to Xbox for approval. Hopefully this fixes some of the bugs. One of the major bugs is that when you equip coins during online matches you don't get the benefit of the boosts. Not a big deal for me since I don't use pins. That being said, I receive negative XP every time I play an online match it doesn't amount to much, but it is annoying. I have also heard of a lot of people having issues with the game freezing. I have only had the game freeze 3 times all 3 times were during loading screens while not in a match. Another issue when playing online matches is the view of your opponent's shot. All you can see if the back of their golfer it does not follow the flight of their golf ball. There are few others that have had other issues that I have not experienced.

The game play itself is very good not much different from last year's though. The biggest difference I have noticed is with the putting. It seems that you have to hit your putts a little harder than in years past. I do like you can choose from a power golfer or a control golfer. In addition, you can choose whether your golfer hits fades or draws.

After approximately 100 rounds played I'm really enjoying the game even with the bugs. One really negative thing is that EA has removed the ability to 'earn' courses with your coins like you could in last year's game. Now all extra courses have to be purchased. If you purchase all courses, you're looking at over $50, not including the price of the game. If you're like me and play this game a lot, you'll probably break down and buy the courses.

I'll update my review after the patch is implemented on Xbox Live.

Picked this up for the 1st time in a couple years, absolutely so much fun to play. I'd read a few negative reviews on the standard edition, one guy complained about career mode and said he couldn't hit it more that 200 yards to begin with this isn't true. Within 5 hours of gameplay, my guy can bomb it 280 290 yards and they give you an option to get the masters brand clubset early on so that your stats are actually better than clubs you can't get until level 60 or more. If you like golf video games, pick this up. There is so much to do and the legends mode is incredible, I wish they would do some realistic legends teams in madden similar to this (69 Jets, 75 Vikings, etc). I couldn't recommend this game any higher, just get it.

We finally upgraded from our old PS2 to the Xbox 360 so my husband can play against his sons online. This was our first purchase with our new system and we are already addicted to it. And based on their growing stats I'd say they're completely addicted to it too.

My husband and I are total Xbox newbies so we can't compare this game against any other version. What I can say is that after playing it pretty much non-stop for the entire weekend our only complaint is that when we strike a putt the view immediately changes to a far away shot, as if you are now a spectator watching the play from way too far away. It bugs. The problem with this is, I can't watch my own putt from my own perspective so I can't pick up any tips if I miss the shot. This feature is rather frustrating, most likely because we're avid golfers. If the viewing angle was closer I might not be so bothered by it but it's way too far away to help me in any way and that part sucks. It may be a setting I can tweak but I doubt it. I've been through most of the menus by now and haven't seen such an option, at least not yet.

So far though that is my only complaint to report. The graphics are amazing, and for avid golfers it is really cool to be able to 'play' such revered courses like Augusta, Pebble Beach, and St. Andrews. This is as close as I'll probably ever get to 'playing' them so I'm thoroughly enjoying seeing what these courses look like with no spectators and grandstands and scoreboards all over the place. I know it's simulated but still, if you like golf this is pretty darn cool!

Update: After playing this game for several months now I can say that my opinion of it is still very high but I do notice a lot of glitches that are starting to bother me. I think the most frustrating is when the clubs in my golf bag revert back to the Starter set before you start a new round of golf. Since no one thinks of checking their clubs before each round, this glitch can really upset you when you think you have your 8 degree Nike driver (and all its attributes) only to realize you're now stuck using their default 11.5 degree starter club and it's extremely limited attributes. When your gaming profile is up to 90+, losing your upgraded clubs can really hinder your skills! I've also noticed several other little glitches that are apparently known issues if you check out the blogs on EA Sports. For example, if I select my female golfer as my profile player sometimes a warning pops up that says my other profile golfer will be removed from my console. So then if I want to use my male player later, I have to completely log out of EA Sports and log back in to get both profiles back. I am using my local hard drive for storage instead of their cloud storage so I don't know if that is why this keeps happening or not. One other issue is when I recently tried to enter a sponsored tournament their registration servers were unavailable every time I tried.

The Last Remnant -Xbox 360
Customer Ratings: 3.5 stars

I've played almost every Square Enix game there is, and when I saw the across the board bad reviews for Last Remnant, I was a bit worried. But I bought it anyway, and I don't regret it. Just for some background, here's my preference for Final Fantasy games, so you can compare with your own tastes and see if TLR might be for you. I thought FF3 (6 US) was the best hands down, FF2 (4 US) and 7 were tied for second, 10 and 1 (for the sake of nostalgia if nothing else) were tied for 3rd. 12 is next, 9 was not terrible, but it was definitely forgettable. And 8 was a steaming pile of garbage.

With that out of the way, there's one thing you have to accept before you get into this game. If you don't just accept it going in you won't appreciate the game, and if you do you will. And that is the fact that the hallmark of this game is the battle system. That was their #1 priority. Story came second, even graphics came second. Don't get me wrong, I think the graphics are fantastic personally and the story is fine. But the battle system is very impressive and there are a lot of intricacies to it, and it really shows that they were willing to sacrifice other areas of the game for a stellar battle system.

The levelling system has been redesigned as well, although it's up to your taste whether you'll like it. You don't actually "level" your character, instead your skills go up as you use them. For example use a lot of combat skills and they'll become more powerful, use a lot of magic and you'll get new spells. Do a lot of physical attacks and your strength / attack power will go up, get hit a lot and your HP will go up. Etc. Again, some people will like this and some won't, I personally get a sense of satisfaction about hearing that ding every time I raise a level, and keeping track of how much more exp I need to get there, but I can live with this system, it's not that bad once you get used to it. One interesting aspect of it is that it really requires your characters to specialize, since you want to get access to the more powerful techniques you have to keep using that same type of technique over and over, and using some other type of technique will delay you getting the stronger ones from the original category.

The slowdown and stuttering that everyone talks about is indeed an issue, but one that I hardly notice. It's completely forgivable as far as I'm concerned and it doesn't interfere with my enjoyment of the game at all, period. And that's with the disc in the drive, if you install it to the hard drive it may be even less of an issue.

The main complaints I have about this game are as follows:

Exploration has been eliminated. I like the fact that I can go anywhere I want, whenever I want in an RPG. This game doesn't have that. The second you accept a quest, you are teleported to the dungeon / place where the quest takes place instantly. This is just weird, is it really that hard for me to walk there? A side effect of this is that you usually only have one quest active at once.

Travel is instantaneous. Again I like walking, or taking a boat or something. Opening a map and just clicking something and bam I'm there takes away from the nostalgia feel, makes me lose sense of how big and expansive the world is. You can still travel to any previously visited place at any time, even if for example a bunch of people join your party and yell "We must get to Elysion with haste, Rush let's go now!" You can still take your entire party and travel around to lots of previously visted places. In fact doing this you might find a few secrets :P But nevertheless, it also makes the game feel more linear that no matter how far away something is, you can get there instantly.

That's pretty much it. If you're an RPG fan, if you can accept this game for what it is, I think you'll find it to be of good quality.

This game has a Mature Adult rating, and it's not because of the content, but because of the gameplay. The gameplay is too challenging and detailed for teens. I have played the game twice, creating every weapon, achieving Warlock, Lordly Commander classes on more than one character, all the arcana and weapon arts. The game requires deep thinking to analyze how to create effective unions (battle teams). People think the game is random, or just luck, but it is NOT. Every action is completely controllable, but you have to know what you are doing. Too many recent RPGs have been stuck on a formula where you have a single hero who fights aggressively, and with overleveling the game is overpowered. That is NOT the case here.

BR Battle Rank and Arts are separate. Battle Rank is NOT like traditional leveling. Fighting too easy monsters or too many mobs in a mistaken attempt to "level up" will leave your characters with a high battle rank, but without sufficient skills. Players need to focus on challenging monsters and avoid easy ones until late game when anything goes and you are no longer skill building. The game has job classes determined both by weapon type and also by the type of commands you choose. If you want a combat character, choose combat commands, and don't use the mystic arts for that character. In other words, you must plan what you are doing. Anybody who hopes to barrel their way through the story will not make it.

I have helped many gamers on gamefaqs with this game, and I suggest using the FAQs there and the forum for questions, as the strategy guide is horrible and lacks crucial information. I also highly recommend using the lastremnant wikia on the internet.

The best players I have seen with this game are ADULT players with 10-20 years of RPG game experience, aged 20 and older. This game was a Game of the Year for me in 2008 and I never tire of watching other players on ustream playing this game. I repeat, it's not for the kiddies. But if you are an adult RPG player who has also some experience with strategy RPGs, you will do great with this and love it. Impatient teens and other reviewers on this site who couldn't figure out the game clearly do not have what it takes to play this, a vast RPG experience, high intelligence, and a love for detailed strategy.

There is no way to play the same game twice with the sheer number of characters that you can hire for your teams. The bosses and download content are very difficult battles, but once you learn what you are doing, you will find this satisfying. I hope that my comments here will recommend the game to other adults looking for a game with adult characters, not just kiddie characters, and also to people with the patience to learn the system in the game. It is NOT random and takes time to analyze.

This game is meant for HDTVs and will be difficult to see on an older analog TV. You will be disappointed in the graphics and menus unless you have an HDTV which will make the game look so amazing you will have your breath taken away. There are massive dragons to fight that are incredible to watch, and many areas in the world to explore. Have fun fellow adults, this one is for us!

Best Deals for The Last Remnant -Xbox 360

Okay... first of all, I read reviews before purchasing this game. BUT, I'm a huge RPG buff, so the positive I had read/seen about it outweighed the negative.

I've only had the game for about a week and a half, but I've played it quite a bit. YES, it does have some technical issues. It graphically lags a bit when super fancy-schmancy effects are processed. So they used the Unreal engine and hadn't perfected said use... big deal. AS LONG AS YOU INSTALL IT ONTO YOUR HARD DRIVE, none of the load screens or technical issues really become that big of a deal.

All that aside, the voice acting is pretty freakin awesome if you ask me. The rest of it plays much like any of the more recent Final Fantasy series, but it feels a little different. Most notable are the combat system (A combination of old-school turn-based and a tactics-type system, with a hint of nutmeg), the item customization system (It's pretty ridiculous... in a good way), and the treasure digging system! Heck yes, it's almost like a little mini-game-type nugget that you pick up early on and take with you throughout areas that you explore.

The only problem I've had so far was that my party seemed SO INCREDIBLY WEAK early on (once you reach a point at which Rush ventures off on his own for a bit). It was taking me forever to fight anything or get through areas, and I had to take enemies on in as few numbers as possible. It was later that I realized how to put additional party members into a union. It's MUCH better after that, haha. But that's what I get for not reading the manual.

Honestly, so far, My only complaint (other than that, ideally, there shouldn't be any problems, really, with graphical lag) is that in the morale system, you get a severe detriment to morale if an enemy engages you before you can initiate combat yourself, BUT, there's ABSOLUTELY no way for you to gain any advantage on an enemy. It's either starting at 50/50, or 75-25 in the enemy's favor. Unless, of course, I just haven't gotten that far yet... But, even so, it should be accessible already. It's fairly difficult to sneak up on an enemy...

If ya like RPGs, and you especially like them with an extra dose of strategy, then go ahead and snag this one ^_^

Honest reviews on The Last Remnant -Xbox 360

Oy! I read the reviews and decided to buy this game. I put in 25 hours and got probably a quarter of the way through and got bored. The story seemed good and the graphics are great, but the battle system and growth system don't engage you. I like rpgs for growing my characters. This game takes that away from you. Growing Mr. Diggs, the side character, was more fun. Here are my problems, which made the game slow and boring:

1) Battles no control. Concept of unions is cool in order to get a bunch of characters into a fight. It gets old when you can only really select four general commands, which are random. Usually, you end up with the same commands over and over again, which makes it difficult to work up experience in other areas, such as healing, which rarely comes up

2) Experience you don't really gain experience, you gain HP separately, AP separately, strength separately, etc. After a while, you have no idea who is growing what.

3) Speed I loaded this game on my hard drive and the battle load time is still slow (about 10 seconds). Given that the battles are boring and you do about 50-100 per area, you really start to waste a lot of time for nothing new per battle.

That's my beef with the game. At the end of the day, you spend 95% of the time battling, as one review put it, and the battling/leveling up system isn't interesting. The game tries to engage you by having you hit buttons at the right time, which to me sounds like the developer's solution to making it more interesting after they realized that they'd spent a ton of money on a game that turned out to be boring in its main aspect.

It's like Square and Microsoft brainstormed every possible way to ruin a strategy game and still have it be sorta fun.

Concept: 9/10

The Last Remnant is turn based strategy game set in a fantasy universe created by the masterminds who created Final Fantasy. You play as a young adult named Rush. Rush's sister has been kidnapped by villains that want to use her innate magical abilities to take over the world.

You can access areas through a World Map. There are towns where you buy weapons and equipment, or even craft your own. There are also dungeons and battlefields where you fight enemy Squads and Bosses.

You advance through the game by fighting turn-based Battles.

You hire Warriors, Mages, and Leaders and form them into several Squads.

The number of Units in a Squad = the number of attacks that Squad gets per round. (Each Unit attacks per turn.)

The Squad's HP is the combination of the Units' HP. As long as the HP is above 0, ALL of the Units in that Squad can keep attacking. If the Squad's HP = 0, all of the Units in the Squad die at the same time.

You can issue commands to the Squads during the battle, like "Charge", "Heal", "Attack with Magic"...

After the Battle, all of your Units are resurrected and improve based upon what they did during the battle.

In a Battle, you cannot retreat, and if you lose, you must return to your last Save.

Sounds Awesome... now here comes an avalanche of flaws that ruin the game.

Technical Art: 1/10

Square licensed an old version of Unreal before it had streaming. As a result, there are Load Screens everywhere! The game also is hindered by the most slowdown that I've seen since Aladdin fought Jafar on the SEGA Genesis. Textures and Bump-Maps constantly pop in and out whenever characters or scenes are rendered. It's incredibly distracting and makes your Xbox 360 feel like a PC with a 9 year old graphics card. However, you can avoid most of these bugs, by installing the game on your 360 Hard Drive and playing it from there.

Gameplay: 2/10

During Battles, when you give orders to your Squads, you only get a few options per turn. These options seem completely random. There are many times when a Squad is at Full Health and you get an option to Heal them. However, when a Squad is low on HP, sometimes the Heal Option doesn't show up, causing you to lose a battle. There are other times when you fight an enemy and you're thinking, "My Poison Gas Attack is perfect for this." But it doesn't show up in your Command List. Whoever thought of taking the Player's Options away in a Turn Based Battle Game was a good idea, is clearly insane. Too often, you are forced to make bad decisions because the options you want just aren't available when you need them most.

Even when you do get the commands that you want, sometimes the characters "REASSESS" and ignore your commands and do something different. If your Squad's Leader gets KO'ed with a spell, it's called a BOTCH and the AI takes control of that Squad.

It feels like the game is doing everything possible to take control away from you in a game where the fun is supposed to come from you commanding your army. As long as the AI is good, this usually isn't too much of a problem...

AI: 3/10

At times Allied Squads join you. You cannot give them commands and they act on their own. Sometimes, they attack enemies for 20 points of damage instead of healing one of your Squads, restoring 2000 HP! The AI is so bad, you'd swear that Leroy Jenkins hacked into your 360 through your live account and he's controlling the Allies.

BOSSES: 2/10

Because of the AI and Gameplay issues, the Bosses feel incredibly cheap. Also, all of their Health Bars show up as ???. You have no idea how many HP they have. When they are close to death, their Health Bar flashes red, but that's the only hint that you get. Bosses attack hard enough to take out an Entire Squad, or Charm them and make them fight on their side. If you have 3 Squads, and the Boss decides to Charm all 3, you lose! There are times when you don't get the commands that you need to win the battle at the times you need them, causing you to die.

QUESTS: 4/10

Most of the Quests are of the dungeon crawl variety. You gain access to a dungeon and fight to an objective with an AI companion. Most of them are ok, and some are horrible. One Quest in particular has you running through a barren desert for 12 minutes, touching posts. The only way to Identify them is to touch them and if you touch the wrong one in the wrong order, you have to start over. It's got all of the excitement of your Gym Coach making you run 3 miles in real time.

ART: 5/10

Slowdown aside, the art is very dull. The lighting is very dark throughout the game and colored lighting is pretty non-existent. Everything looks dull and drab, like you're watching the game through a dirty window. The Character Designs are interesting, but lack the Style found in the Final Fantasy series. Another issue arises when your army fights another humanoid army. The characters in the battle look nearly identical, so it is really difficult to tell who is who. When you see a guy swing an axe at an identical guy and a 1000 appears above the injured character, you don't know whether to cheer or panic.

WRITING: 3/10

If you're looking for an epic script, look elsewhere. The dialogue in this game is as epic as 2 third graders talking about their lunchables. The lines are delivered like the actors are in a breakfast cereal commercial where the first 5 ingredients are Sugar.

Rush's Battlecry, "YEAH, Everybody is getting HYPED!" He says stuff like, "Yo Dave, whassup?" "Yeah, No Prob. Whatever..."

Another annoyance is that the team reversed the Critial Hit Dialogue, so when your characters critical hit the enemy, they say what they would have said if they had gotten critically hit. If you do 5000 damage to an enemy, your character is likely to grumble, "Aww shucks."

BROMANCE: 0_o /10

Homophobes beware. The first major NPC that you speak to is an aging bartender at the Tavern. He calls you "Cutey" and hits on you. In all fairness, your character is feminine and he's wearing leather chaps as a fashion statement. Later on, Rush meets Dave, a flamboyant magistrate, and they get along better than any other two characters in the game. In one scene Dave gives Rush a flower and they gaze into each other's eyes. Normally, Rush replies with a nonchalant "whatever" to the other NPC's but if Dave says something, Rush says, "Aww, I can't say no to you." If the enemy surrounds you, they can attack with a "REAR ASSAULT" and Rush says, "They caught us with our pants down!" So, after a while, the game starts to feel like Brokeback Kingdom.

ECONOMY: 1/10

Rush is the only character that you can equip, and it seems like once you buy a decent sword, there's no reason to get another one until Disk 2. The game has a crafting system, where you can make things for Rush, but the parts are so rare, it's not even worth searching for them. Also, 90% of the items that you can create are the same as items that you can buy. Your NPC's equip themselves and manage their own gear. Sometimes, they'll ask you for something in the inventory and you have the right to refuse. But if you refuse, the NPC just becomes less effective.

The Game is Rated M for Blood, Language, Violence and Suggestive Themes (between males)

Overall, the game is at least 50 hours long full of Quests and Side Quests. At times, the game is fun and the cutscenes are pretty good. Your Characters do improve after almost every battle, so it does feel rewarding. It's a semi-decent way to kill time in small doses. But, the lack of control that you have over your army is incredibly frustrating and the homosexual undertones as well as the juvenile dialogue can get on your nerves.

If you're dying for a turn based strategy game for the 360, and don't mind playing it from your hard drive... and all of the stuff I just wrote about doesn't bother you... Buy this game.

Avoid this game if you hate Slowdown, Bromances, Bad Art, Load Screens, Dull Quests, Awful Dialogue, or if you actually want to control your soldiers in a strategy game.

Note: There is also a bug that prevents you from getting 200 Achievement Points when you finish the game.

If the flaws that I mentioned above are just too much, but you still want a strategy game, check out the Fire Emblem series for the Nintendo Systems, the Total War series for the PC, or King's Bounty for the PC.

I actually do not own a XBOX. I want a SMALL surround sound system for my living room and I don't want too many bulky electronics. I decided to for for Spherex based on many raved reviews. The satellite speakers are based on the highly-regarded Omnipolar technology developed by Mirage system.

I was not disappointed

Out of the box there's MINIMAL adjustment needed just hook up your TV's analog output and your DVD player's digital output to the subwoofer. There are 2 optical and one coaxial digital inputs and one analog input (total of 4 inputs). No need to buy bulky receiver / amplifier. After breaking-in the satellite speakers for a few hours (this is very important) and then put the subwoofer in the corner of my living room (where it should be placed), I fired up the system for critical listening.

My first impression is that this is a SUPERB, neutral sounding system. I also have a Rotel / Vandersteen surround system in my theater room (over 10 times the cost of the Spherex) and I have to say the Spherex system held on its own. Its sound stage is incredibly wide and deep, especially for my small living room. The treble is smooth, not fizzy. The subwoofer is full and tight-sounding, perfectly matching the satellites. I then hook up my home theater PC to it and play my classical MP3 collection ripped at 256 kbps via the Dolby Pro-logic II mode again superb sounding.

For movies the Dolby Digital and DTS works superbly as well. The sound stage is again incredibtly wide and immersive. Try to watch the Lord of the Ring with Spherex and you will see what I mean.

Now the down-side. There's some mild static noise when no music is playing it does not bother me at all, considering there's nothing in this price range (surround receiver + surround sound speakers) that can match the Spherex (I paid $380 shipped). Secondly, it doesn't look like audiophile product then again it's only $380. Third, it doens't use regular speaker cables (it use RCA plug speaker cable go figure.) I need more than 20 feet for my rear speakers so I have to go to Radioshack to buy longer cables.

Overall I am thrilled by the sound quality of the Spherex system.

Five Mirage Omnipolar speakers + a subwoofer + a receiver easly cost over $900. I have not compared it to the Logitech Z-5500 system which is probably Spherex's closed competition but it does not have the Omnipolar technology.

Bottom line anyone looking for a small surround sound speaker system and don't want bulky electronics should check the Spherex out. YOU DON'T NEED A XBOX TO ENJOY THIS SYSTEM.

Ok, to start off I'm not an audiophile. I have used and dived into tens, if not hundreds, of audio and video devices and systems. I get to know what I buy and don't stop at just getting a component to work.

So far, this system is performing well, but the sound quality I was expecting, expectations can jade ones experience if they are too high, was not quite there. Part of this is definitely related to the room of use, which is less than optimal for surround. However, I was hoping, based on reviews, that this system with its non-direct focus of sound would help null that out. I also, jsut recently got the system, so its hardly been tuned to its best performance. It far surpasses my fairly new TV's speakers, but that's not really hard to do, since most TV's have mediocre to poor speakers at best.

Overall, the sound is very good. The system installation is trivial. It has 2 optical and one coax digital inputs, which was perfect for my three digital sources; XBox 360, Showcenter 200 (HD video/audio client), and an HD digital cable box. There is an additional analog input (2 coax for left and right and a cable that will convert that to a 1/8" stereo plug for MP3/Computer/.... Also included is the currently non-usable USB port for firmware upgrades as well as playing digital audio from a computer; no new firmware is posted and the PC drivers for the digital audio does not appear to be ready. One final output port allows attachment of headphones or other audio recording device. As I mentioned in my title, that was absolutely perfect for me and my wife; now all our audio is through one "receiver" and can be heard through speakers or headphones. The rest of the plugs are for speakers; all standard RCA type jacks. The speaker wire was surprisingly thin. I would have thought that it would have been a little beefier. Then again, they are only putting 55W/channel front and 16W rear, so I suppose the thickness is relatively trivial at that relatively low wattage. They are upgradeable, since every cable is RCA on both ends. There is also a big expansion slot, but I've not seen any info about probable uses from the company. This could be a source of more inputs, output channels (7.1) although I doubt that, THX filtering maybe, all on an expansion card. The speakers are small and decorative, however, despite wall mounting holes built into the case, they strongly recommending that you not do that; despite all the demos they show at their site places the speakers on the wall (go figure). The reflective sound nature is deadened by position so close to the wall (they recommend 3 feet between speaker and wall) reducing the effectiveness of the surround effect and overall sound quality. Also on this note, placing them in a confining space like a low book shelf or audio/TV cabinet/stand shelf will have a tendancy to make the speakers sound muddy (which was my first experiece with them.) That makes the placement of the center channel speaker difficult; the best would be on top of a tall TV cabinet with the TV inside, if you have one, or on top of the TV, which is impossible for me since me DLP's case is too thin on top. The Sub wofer is good and somewhat adjustable. The included remote is adequate, but a multi-device remote becomes a big help when you start turning on and configuring three devices (TV, Video (DVD), and audio receiver.)

The display unit provide, also is the IR receiver, is intersting and provides a lot of info about what's currently being played. However, it's sometimes difficult to discern which features are really lit from across the room; there are 14 total, 7 on each side, and some turn from green to red to indicate an additional mode.

The only "problem" I've experienced is the unit, when powered of by the remote (power switch on the unit is left on), will sometimes not power back up again from the remote. When this happens, I need to turn the power switch of and then back on, and the system responds normally. They do state in the manual that you should power the unit off, via the switch on the back, when the unit will not be used for a while; just like a receiver or TV. I am a little concerned about this issue, which leads me to my next point.

I like the idea that this is upgradable with firmware via the USB port. New features, fixes (hopefully for the power on one), and performance improvements are just a download away. However (I say that alot), this also leads me to believe that companies are shipping products early, letting the end user debug problems, and fixing the most serious that effects the most users. A great business model for making money and cutting costs, but I feel that gone are the days of getting a reliable product that does what it claims to do and then using it. An example here is the PC digital audio. "The software is not ready yet" is the claim. Well then, why was it listed as a feature instead of a future enhancement. This current firmware fix fascination is leading to this kind of product development; shoot for the stars and if we reach orbit, that's good enough and they'll still buy it. Ok, off my soapbox.

To sum up, sound is very good but didn't blow me away, unit sets up in minutes, wish it an input or two more (1 digital and 2 analog preferrable for a total of 4 and 3) for future needs (again it met mine right now, but I'm out of inputs), upgrades are easy, and reliability is in question (it locks up and won't respond to power command from the remote; hopeful software fix). All in all I'm pleased (mostly because I got it at a great price), but I thought it was a little pricey for the sound that I'm experiencing. I recommend it, if you have some cash to throw around and a place to run all those wires (a common problem for almost all surround systems.) Hope that helps.

I got this 2 days ago, the first one i got was defective ( the IR receiver keeps shutting off), i returned it to Bestbuy and got a different one. I didn't know that in order to hook the xbox up, you will need an "advance av pack". That's all you need to get, the optical cable is included in the package. I fired up the "Saving Private Ryan" dvd, i was amazed. It was like you're inside the movie. I have a Phillips Home Theater system which i thought was excellent. But after hearing the spherex sound, i immediately got rid of my Phillips. Next stop, the game, I popped in Halo 2, awesome experience. You could actually hear if someone is right behind you. DOOM 3, scared the crap out of me, i was like in hell. Hearing those tormented souls whispering in your ear. While emptying the load on my plasma rifle.

If you're thinking of getting this "bad boy", i got one friendly advice for you. "Stop thinkin', just get it".

Honest reviews on Xbox Spherex 51000 6-Piece 5.1 Surround Sound System

I wanted a surround sound system not just for gaming but for watching DVDs in Dolby 5.1 and DTS. After reading extensive reviews from gaming and home theatre sites, the choice was clear.

The Spherex system fits nicely in my apartment without taking up a lot of room, yet offers a sound experience much larger than its size suggests. I am impressed not just by the bass but by the clarity of the mid and high frequencies. Equally impressive is the wide sweet spot.

Gaming experience on the Xbox is so much better with the Spherex epecially Doom 3 (you feel you are truly there with the sound immersion like when the door closes or a monster materializes behind you). Same goes for action movies.

The same sweet spot technology in the Spherex is also found in the higher end Mirage line of speakers at a fraction of the cost.

What's the con about this product? There is only one analog input but this becomes a diminishing requirement with everything going digital nowadays.

One thing I dislike is that the unit may still consume 60W in standby mode. I manually power off the unit via the rocker switch behind the subwoofer to avoid the 60W consumption.

Finally, what other product offers a 10-year warranty nowadays?

I've done my research and I've purchased this set for myself. There really is nothing that compares to the Spherex system within the same price range. Some might be discouraged by the Xbox logo that is on every component of this system. Some might think that's cool. Others might get the notion that it might be cheapy and/or low budget. Trust me on this...it is far from cheap. When I unpackaged my spherex system, I was amazed by the quality of each component. There are enough audio inputs to support a small Home theatre system. Two optical-in, one digital coax, a port for L-R analog, a headphone jack, and of course, inputs for all 5 speakers. The Sub is powered, not a cheesy passive sub. This will work with any game system, and other devices that support a 5.1 setup. Currently, I have my TV/vcr(analog), Xbox (optical), DVD player(digital coax), and still have room for another optical device if I choose.

My only negative on this system is the IR-reciever. It is very nice, but IF that component dies, you have no control over your audio system. The only way to control the system is through the remote which depends soley on the IR reciever being operational. Never fear...Spherex has a 10 year warranty on this thing. In 10 years, I'm sure I'll be ready for a new setup anyway...but at least my system is protected in the event that something fails. Problem is, if that IR-receiver goes...and you ship that part for replacement, you'll be unable to use your system for a while. Spherex would have been good to had some on-board controls as a backup option...but oh well. Just a minor deal in my opinion.

The sound quality is amazing. I kept reading about how amazed everyone was with the sound. Spherex uses a sound distribution method unlike most speakers you'll find. It emits sound to better reflect off of surfaces and your environment, so that you're in a "sweet spot" no matter where you are in the room. The sound is more realistic than some of the high priced speakers that I've heard. No need for any high priced recievers and separate components. Everything is built into the sub making setup a snap. Heck, my grandma could set this thing up. If you can make your VCR stop blinking 12:00AM, then you can set this up with no problem.

Just do your research. I've read reveiws in various third-party sources (game magazines, home theater mags, audio mags, etc.) and every source rates this system very high (usually 9+ out of 10, 90+ percent, etc.) Don't be fooled by the "dorky" xbox license...this thing is so versatile, that once you hear your games, movies and music on this thing, you could care less if these things were pink with hello kitty faces painted on.

For those looking to spend under $1000 for a nice surround sound package, you won't find anything better than this. Believe me, I've looked.

Being a fan of the older Silent Hills and Resident Evils I was skeptical of this game. I enjoy shoot em up games, buy miss the old style of run to live. That being said, this game is definitely like the old games. You have to play smart and cant just charge into battle. It keeps you on the edge of your seat the whole time.

The game is split up into 6 "episodes". Each chapter plays out like a self contained story that is a part of the whole story. I dont want to say to much, but for this price you cant go wrong.

This game is fantastic. If you love a good mystery or thriller, this game will have you on the edge of your seat. You'll jump, you'll panic, you'll have an excellent time playing through this epic story of a writer desperately trying to save his wife, and the world, from the darkness. If you're a fan of Stephen King, if you're a fan of Twin Peaks, The X-Files, Silent Hill, or even Resident Evil, you will love this game. It combines an incredible story, hectic action, jump-out-of-your-seat scare tactics and a little bit of humor to create one of my favorite, and many other peoples' favorite gameplay experiences of the last decade.

It wasn't long after the console release of the first BlazBlue entry subtitled Calamity Trigger that developers Arcsys (makers of the legendary Guilty Gear) unveiled the next: Continuum Shift. It's been a long wait (well, long for those of us who have been counting down the days to import it from Japan), but Continuum Shift has finally arrived. With plenty of new content, features, and changes, Continuum Shift shows that BlazBlue is here to stay.

Continuum Shift adds a whole lot of new things to the series, but I'll start with the 3 brand new playable characters: Hazama, Tsubaki, and Mu-12. Hazama and Tsubaki are available to be played as from the start; Mu-12 however must be unlocked through the story mode. Hazama can use his drive to shoot out a long chain with a monstrous mouth at the end (vaguely similar to Scorpion's from Mortal Kombat but much larger). He can use this to halt his opponent, throw his opponent, or even pull himself to the opponent to get up close and personal. He has a good mix up game and an extremely dangerous distortion drive that launches his opponent way up into the air, allowing him to follow it up with a combo as they fall back to the ground. Tsubaki uses her Drive to charge up a meter which she can expend to pull off improved versions of her special moves. She is very fast which grants her great potential to rush down and pressure the opponent. Her damage is fairly weak, but with a fully charged meter she can be a big threat. Lastly, Mu-12's drive summons several turrets/mirrors called Steins that can fire/reflect lasers. Not only that, but she can cause them to explode, halting her opponent's attempts to rush in. She has an excellent reversal and plenty of options to keep her opponent at bay. All three of the characters are unique (Mu-12's design does share some similarities with Lamda-11's, but their fighting styles differ greatly) and are great fun to play as.

As of now, three additional characters have been announced and will be included as Downloadable Content (DLC) in the future. The word is that these characters are Makoto, Noel's squirrel-like friend; Velkenhayn, Rachel's polite butler; and Platinum the Trinity, a brand new character with 3 different personalities that is introduced in Continuum Shift's story. It's stated that these will cost money (rumor is $7 as of writing this).

All 15 of the characters in Continuum Shift come with unlock able unlimited forms (unlike Calamity Trigger which only had 4 unlimited characters unless one purchased the DLC). If you're not familiar with what they are, unlimited characters are basically overpowered "boss" versions of the games playable cast. They have been created with almost no thought of balance in mind and are meant only for playing in a non competitive setting for fun. Don't think that these are the same unlimited characters from Calamity Trigger as most of them have had pretty significant changes to make them even more over the top and fun. Unfortunately, the only way to unlock these unlimited characters is by completing Score Attack mode with the character whose unlimited form you wish to unlock. This is a very hard thing to accomplish. There is DLC that can be purchased to unlock the unlimited characters if you do not wish to go through the agony of unlocking them all yourself, but I can't help but feel that method for unlocking the unlimited characters was made extremely difficult in an attempt to get players to cave and buy the DLC. The unlimited characters are more of a fun side attraction than a crucial part of the game, but it's still disappointing that they are not so easily accessible.

Continuum Shift features a massive amount of new stages. All the previous stages from Calamity Trigger have had complete redesigns made of them (the Calamity Trigger original's are of course here as well should you choose to use them). One stage from Calamity Trigger had you fight on a platform with pedestrians during a sunny afternoon as giant airships passed behind you. The Continuum Shift version has you fighting on the same platform but in a heavy downpour of rain which gradually stops to have the clouds break, revealing a sunset. Knowing that, the redesigns aren't necessarily meant to replace the originals rather than give them a different kind of style. Some brand new stages have been included as well like a lush royal garden, a historic museum, and a suburban bridge on the brink of the city. Calamity Trigger had absolutely astounding stages, but I find that Continuum Shift's new stages and redesigned stages take it to the next level. To be straight forward, Continuum shift has the best stages I've seen in any fighting game yet.

Several Tweaks to the characters have been made. All the characters from Calamity Trigger sport new moves, move commands, and changes to their mechanics in Continuum Shift. For instance, Ragna has a new special move called Belial Edge which he can use to rapidly dive downward when in the air. Most people will find that this new move leads to much better air combos when compared to Calamity Trigger which will cause them to relearn and play Ragna quite differently. Another example is Arakune who now has much larger and much more powerful insects, but must build a meter instead of landing a single hit to use them. Also, many changes to frame data have been made in an attempt to progressively make the game more balanced. In general, it's a much more balanced game than Calamity Trigger was and it is pretty well balanced over all, but there are still some flaws. Rachel for instance has been weakened to a point where she is at a pretty large disadvantage to the rest of the cast. Fortunately, an announcement has been made that Arcsys plans to patch the game in the future to further improve the balancing.

The core mechanics of the game have undergone some tweaking. The bursting system is no longer tied to your character's barrier gauge. Instead, both players start a match with one burst each. Another burst is given when a player loses a round. Players can gain and store up to two bursts at once. I like this system much more than Calamity Trigger's which made it effective to burst only when your character was nearly dead, taking away the strategic aspect of bursting. Ultimately though, I still find the burst system from Guilty Gear (which is tied to its own meter) to function the best out of all of them. I personally would much like to see it implemented into BlazBlue.

Another change to the game's mechanics is the new guard break system. Characters don't play tug of war with a meter in an attempt to break through the opponent's defense anymore. Instead we have the new Guard Libra system. Each character has their own set number of Guard Libras that break when an opponent attacks with a few select moves in their arsenal. Once all of a character's Guard Libras are broken, they become stunned for a long period of time which allows the opponent go in for a free combo. I, again, like this system more than Calamity Trigger's because it's a much more permanent penalty rather than a regenerating one. These moves with the potential to break Guard Libras can also cause new counter attacks (counter hits are performed by hitting an opponent while they are in an attack animation) called Fatal Counters which lead to even more powerful combos than before.

The Controls remain the same (Buttons for A, B, C, and Drive), but a new beginner mode (which is of course optional to use) has been added which replaces the easy specials from Calamity Trigger. Beginner mode really simplifies the game by giving the player 2 buttons for attack (normal and heavy) as well as a button for specials and a button for grabs. Basic combos can be easily strung together by mindlessly mashing buttons. Distortion Drives are performed by pressing and holding one of the two attack buttons and Astral Finishes are performed by holding both together. It's a nice function for those with absolutely no experience with fighting games who just want to jump in on the fun. I really do wish the easy specials option wasn't removed though. I know two friends in particular who are capable of pulling off simple commands like quarter circles, but have difficulty stringing more complex commands into combos. Because easy specials have been removed, they must either play in the extremely simplified beginner mode or buy better controllers and spend time they really don't have practicing. A quick side note is that an option for mapping the controls has been added right to the character select screen which is a very nice touch.

The sound is still top notch. New songs have been added for the new characters and game instances. "Gluttony Fang" and "Endless Despair" in particular have more of a heavy and jazzy Guilty Gear vibe to them and are easily my favorites of the game. You can also choose to have the character's voiceovers done in the original Japanese or the dubbed English. Like in Calamity Trigger, the English voiceovers are surprisingly good. It is still a bit of a downside that you cannot select the English or Japanese languages specifically for each character, only for the entire cast. The announcer has been changed too, but I found her to be somewhat obnoxious. Again, downloadable content is available so players can download individual announcer voiceovers done by some of the actual BlazBlue character's cast (if you wish to pay for them that is).

All the modes from Calamity Trigger have come to Continuum Shift (Arcade, Story, Versus, Online, Training, Replay, Gallery and Score Attack). Continuum Shift also features 3 brand new ones. The new tutorial mode shows new players the ins and outs of the mechanics as well as character strategies through several playable lessons. Challenge mode on the other hand allows players to take on 10 challenges for each character. These challenges have the player learn and perform special moves and several combos. These two modes are a welcome addition that helps newer players to familiarize themselves with the game's mechanics and the characters of their choice. Legion Mode (while not necessarily new as it was in BlazBlue Portable) has players attempt to strategically take over a map with a growing army. This mode is still rather disappointing as you can only play one of three different maps that never change, otherwise meaning that they're only worth playing once. It could be a fun mode if it is ever expanded upon in the future.

The story in Continuum Shift is just as massive as in Calamity Trigger. There's a nice "on the previous installment of BlazBlue" segment which helps explain the story of Calamity Trigger for those who didn't play the Calamity Trigger's story or where confused by it. I enjoy the BlazBlue story and I like the direction that Continuum Shift takes it, even if the final revelation feels a bit like a dues ex machina. The story is still presented in a convoluted way though, so don't be surprised if you find yourself lost and confused at times. There are also more hilarious Teach Me Miss Litchi episodes included.

The online mode is pretty much exactly the same. This is a bit disappointing as I was hoping that there might be some kind of team or tournament modes added. The net code has apparently been improved, but I didn't really notice a change since I found the Calamity Trigger net code to be near perfect to begin with. The online mode is still great; I just wish Arcsys added more to it (seeing as how it is kind of the bread and butter of the game).

Overall, I'm very pleased with how the console version of Continuum Shift turned out. When compared with standards that other sequels set today, I certainly think that Continuum Shift fits the mold of rightfully being called a sequel. If one does not believe that, then certainly everything that has been changed and added is worth the discounted price tag. Continuum Shift gives the BlazBlue name a firmer footing and proves that it is filled with potential and is one of the best, if not the best fighting game of this current generation.

Blazblue CS is not a fighter I'm good at. As a matter of fact I was mediocre at Calamity Trigger as well. Yet it goes without saying you can love and admire something even when you totally suck at it! As you know Continuum shift is the spiritual successor of the first BlazBlue game. It's stylized presentation is also a tribute to the zany anime fighter Guilty Gear. The same people were mostly responsible for both franchises.

On the surface Continuum shift is more of the same. The characters exist in a world where magic, technology, and science hold together a fragile civilization. Because of a corrupting atmospheric essence called "sethr" most cities are constructed on mountain tops. However sethr also acts as fuel for mystic weapons that are given to an elite group of chosen defenders of the realm . Sadly using these wondrous devices comes with a heavy price. Some people go insane while others begin to become less human. Blazblue seems bent on melancholy tragic plot devices. Either you become a tar like blob swarming with insects due to sethr radiation or you wield some sort of life sucking blade which is prophesized to bring forth the apocalypse. This ground work actually makes for some interesting characters and somehow arc system works was still able to throw in a lot of cheesy humor just like in the last installment!

Assuming you know what Calamity Trigger offered it is important I go over what is new. First of there is "Legion mode". After selecting your "Leader character" you move around on a grid to defeat then recruit other combatants. Sometimes you'll get a bonus for progressing such as a health restore. Unlike a one on one confrontation you will often have to fight a whole squad. Luckily the game shows you all the rival portraits so you have plenty of time to strategize who you'll pick in the upcoming bout. If all your platoon dies its' a big fat game over as you would expect.

Worried about this game being frustrating? No problem. Continuum shift boasts a tutorial mode voiced by the sharp tongued Goth vampire "rabbit girl" Rachel as well as a Challenge mode. These are detrimental in teaching you about combos, cancels, dashes, back steps, and more complicated special techniques such as each flamboyant protagonist's distortion drives and astral finishers. Frankly these things should have been in Calamity trigger as well.

The regular cast have received upgrades and tweaks. Whether you will like them or not is highly subjective. I did notice when playing as Ragna he had one new arching slash that made chaining hits together much easier. Carl's clap trap isn't quite as effective but he seems a bit faster with more evasive tricks to rush to safety as his robotic marionette "sister" pummels away at the competition. Though a few BB fans complained Rachel was "nerfed" she still seemed plenty effective to me. That stated keep in mind I'm not the best at understanding these intricate fighting physics. However, when I asked a much more knowledgeable hardcore fighting fan friend of mine if he liked the changes he gave me a big thumbs up. That should count for something right?

In theory Continuum shift has 4 new characters. However the ones that stand out the most are Hazama and Tsubaki. Hazama manipulated events in the first game. He had green hair and dressed in a sharp black suit. His favorite weapon is a soul sucking chained grappling hook which he can use to swing himself around the environment or harpoon opponents and draw them in for the kill. Picture a cross between a knife wielding maniac Joker fan and Scorpion from Mortal kombat and you got the basic idea. Tsubaki is a red headed beauty from a noble family wearing a strange feather winged sentient hat with one eye as her hands clutch an oddly shaped book that doubles as a shield and a European styled sword. She is very fast at rush attacks and has a fighting style that resembles a valkyrie maiden. By story line Tsubaki is Jin's love interest and her "artifacts" will grant her great power yet gradually make her go blind. Her major theme seems to be "justice" thus we can surmise her situation is based on the quote "Justice is blind".

Lambda is just like V-13 (Nu) with slightly weaker attacks. "Mu" is a hyped up flying Noel with a HUGE sword which floats behind her. Why the switch from guns to a bus sized Cleaver of destruction? I have no idea but it likely involves the usual cliché of "true forms" and using naïve sweet girls as weapons of mass destruction! Aka the standard anime fare! "Mu" has to be unlocked by completing story mode and getting the true ending. Will she be worth it? Because I haven't gotten my hands on her yet I cannot say.

This brings me to my next topic. If you pride yourself on following the plot in your fighting games Continuum shift continues to deliver that in spades. Not only that but you can "continue" after being defeated in story mode. This means it does not force you to start over and if you really want to you can lose once to each character than press onward with no penalty afterwards to get a higher completion percentage rating. There are also decisions leading to branching paths that can change events aka multiple play-throughs are still highly recommended.

How is the online play you ask? Splendid! Another buddy and I played a few matches with no lag what so ever. He might as well have been visiting me in the flesh while sitting on my couch. The net-code seems near flawless.

The voice acting, music, and vibrant artwork are still top notch and there are many more breath taking lively locales to unlock for a change of scenery.

Whether you love anime or fighting games Continuum shift aims to please. It's good to see old school 2D brawlers are still alive and able to offer tons of content for an affordable price!

Pros

+ Bigger cast of characters

+ Things like "story mode" which are usually nixed from fighting game sequels have continued to stick around in Continuum shift.

+Better humor and more well thought out character development

+Tutorial mode and challenge mode make the game's complex fighting engine easier to learn.

+We finally get "Legion mode" which was only in the psp version of Blazblue before hand.

+Great net-code and smooth online play.

Cons

-Cynical about predictable anime clichés? If so this game will make you wince!

-Fan-service borders on being embarrassing at times. (Boobie Lady!)

-The combat physics and difficulty may in fact be a little too complicated for some individuals even though gamers are given plenty of training wheels in this second installment.

-The fashion choices, flaws, and epic powers of the diverse cast of characters are blown so out of proportion that it's hard to relate to them on a human level.

-Though Continuum shift is vastly improved if you own Calamity trigger this will come off as déjà vu. Aka it's the same ride with a tad more horse power!

Ps: Special Thanks goes out to Cary,IceRaven, and Carly!

This game is a step forward in from the first blazblue. Balance improvements, and system improvements like the changes in the guard break system and bursting make the strategy simpler in these regards. The addition of 3 characters in the game and 3 dlc character will make a total of 18. People might think this is low amount of character but all of them are different in style and play so that this game does not suffer from clones like street fighter does with ryu, ken, akuma, and etc. Highly balanced but attention to individual match ups and strategy between two characters is very important to learn. Youtube videos and dustloop.com can help a beginner get into the game learning combos and strategy. also the game has some mode that help teach some basics to new player unfamiliar to the game. Besides these differences Ark System Works made the game patchable so that balance changes made could be done keeping it in line with arcade versions that come out.

Online is the best among fighters but nothing beats playing some face to face. Lay is rarely a issue because you could set it so you only play people with a connection of a certain strength.

Get this game learn how to really play and stop mashing buttons. This game has depth and is just fun to match.

Honest reviews on BlazBlue: Continuum Shift

I cannot suggest this game highly enough. Lovely hand drawn 2D sprites, over the top presentation, and an incredibly deep fighting system.

The training and challenge modes will help introduce new players to the game mechanics so you're not left out in the cold. Just stick with it.

There's also a beginner mode if you just want to play through the elaborate story mode; or in general aren't particularly skilled at fighting games.

Top notch online play so you'll never be left alone with nobody to play.

If you love 2D sprite based fighters, you must purchase BlazBlue. Support the medium!

Reviews of Halo Triple Pack - Xbox

Halo Triple Pack - Xbox

We are fairly new to the Xbox 360 and my son wanted to start back with the original Halo and Halo 2 before moving on to the later games. The Halo Triple Pack was a good way to get both of these excellent games and the Map Pack for less than buying them separately (mine was from a non-Amazon seller for almost half the regular price, look for deals).

The games run perfectly on my Xbox 360 and it is easy to see why the Halo series is so popular.

Highly Recommended!

Most of the rest of us are all Halo'd out, but if you are new to xbox or the 360, this is the best set you can buy. The games will play at 720p/1080i in widescreen (if you have an HDTV) on the 360 and you will have months if not years (not days) of multiplayer longevity to these titles.

Note the multiplayer maps disc sold separately for Halo2 (if you originally bought Halo2 long ago) is a rip-off.

I bought this for my husband and sons to play. I am a Halo Reach fan but this trilogy is more than I had expected. I was very happy that it plays very well on my Xbox 360 with no issues at all. It is a fun game and we've gotten hours and hours worth of playtime from this pack. If you're looking to complete your Halo collection, as we were, you will be exceptionally pleased with this purchase!

Honest reviews on Halo Triple Pack - Xbox

I rarely write reviews to personally address other reviews of a product, as you would notice if you were to read a few of them. However, I feel the whiny personal complaints and nitpicking here warrant a counterattack. First off, maybe Halo CE is better than Halo 2 if you like unbalanced weapons and running through the same levels a second time backwards. But personally I prefer more variety and depth in my games.

That's not to say that Halo CE isn't a great game. At the end of this review, where I actually make my recommendations, you will see that I in fact have lots of praise for it. However, many people cling to sentimentality and familiarity. Maybe Halo CE's campaign was revolutionary in some ways, but Halo 2's is clearly an improvement. I refuse to be blinded by my bias towards whatever came first; Halo 2 enriches the Halo universe and it's storyline significantly. Halo CE by comparison is a relatively simple and typical FPS storyline: "shoot to survive." As far as the Arbiter, I'm sorry if you prefer to draw nice easy to read lines between good and evil, but I personally am intrigued by the idea of playing from and learning about both sides. Also, at least the Arbiter has some attitude I can only take so much of the Master Chief's cheesey one-liners.

And in the end, all I can suggest is that you stuff your big opinions and just enjoy two games that are both incredibly well made (I can't think of any better reason to buy an xbox than these two games, with the possible exception of Morrowind.) This pack is a great opportunity for people that didnt catch all these games the first time around. In addition to Halo CE and Halo 2, it comes packaged with the Multiplayer Map Pack. I have written an extensive review of this product on its own but rest assured it was almost all positive. So it is certainly no reason NOT to buy this product if you dont already own these three items.

I was baffled when i saw this Halo Triple Pack on sale on Amazon. I thought i would not be able to find one in good condition but i was wrong. All disks were in great shape and when i mean great shape i'm not talking a couple scratches. There were absolutely no scratches on any of the disks. Received the item a lot sooner than expected as well.

This is not an XBOX s-type controller. Do not let the picture fool you because they will send you a YOBO gameware controller. I have never even heard of YOBO and it is ridiculous to call it an s-type. This place ripped me off and I just want to prevent others from being fooled.

Yea, if it's not the namebrand version of the controllers it probably wont last too long...sneakers can be made in a sweat shop...but controllers made in sweat shops dont last long at all...you need to invest in a controller, or be prepared to put out more money for a new one soon
