This guy is wicked awesome he is the strongest character in the game and he isn't bulky so it doesn't take forever to get from one place to another.

Ignitor is a fire element of Skylanders with 100% attack. He is awesome. His attacks are great: His "X" attack is that he jumps out of his suit on fire and he uses it to defeat enemies. The upgraded "X" attack is that he jumps out and zooms back in. His "A" attack is that he swings his sword on fire. His "B" attack is that he holds his sword back and he slams down and the fire is blue. If you hold down the B button he carries the sword over his head and it fires when you release it.

Attack = 100

Defense=65

Agility= 40

Luck = 50

Resident Evil 2: Greatest Hits (2000). The re-release of the 1998 blockbuster sequel to Capcom's survival horror series.

When the Playstation first started out, one of the first games to put the system on the map was Capcom's first foray into survival horror games, Resident Evil. Aside from the earlier series Alone In The Dark, Resident Evil was the first game of its kind to really bring the survival horror genre to life, complete with various puzzles and zombie blasting action. Since RE1 managed to build up a solid fanbase, Capcom was soon called to make a sequel the following year. Initially, they had 60% of the game completed and it was supposed to be released in early 97, but the creators weren't satisfied with the way it was going, saying that "it needed a huge overhaul". So the original plans were scrapped, forcing the fans to wait longer. But come early 1998, the wait was well worth it when Capcom unleashed the new and improved sequel, THE must-own PSX game of 98.

RE2 was the first title in the series I played, and from the get-go, I was hooked. When I say that it's the best RE title to date, I'm not joking, as just about everything from the first game went through a MASSIVE IMPROVEMENT. I'm very glad that Capcom ditched their original plans so that a better sequel could be made. Now I'm not trying to turn this review into just gushing praise, but honestly there's so much to like about this game that beats out the original.

For starters, the graphics are VASTLY superior to the first-generation visuals of the previous game. The character models are much more detailed, the still-screen environments are more vibrant (but dark and pale enough to convey the game's atmosphere), and the crappy B-movie quality intro of the original is gone in place of excellent CG movies. The characters and monsters, while still somewhat blocky, are all brought to life much better now with numerous animations, such as head tracking, and physical gestures during cutscenes. Also, when your character takes damage, you can now tell how hurt they are by the way they walk. If they hold onto their side and limp on one foot, you know that they're close to death. In addition, the newer game engine allows many more creatures to be in the area at one time, like when you stumble into a room with 7 zombies.

Secondly, the sound is brought more into the front this time, with howls and screams of the monsters standing out more so than in the last game. It's especially noteworthy when something suddenly jumps through glass or breaks a wall. When this happens, you'll definitely jump out of your seat. As far as scares go, it'll certainly keep you on the edge until the end. Same thing with the musical score. Compared to the last game, the music is quite a bit more chilling and it seems to know just when something will come out after you. And most importantly, the voice acting is thankfully much better this time around. It's not perfect, but the dialogue and characters are very believable. For instance, Leon's character shows real determination, Claire is quite sympathetic yet assertive, and Chief Irons comes off as just plain creepy. These traits help distinguish the characters.

The story is also brought out very well. Just a few months after the events in the first game, Raccoon City is overtaken by the T-Virus, and nearly every citizen has been turned into a zombie. Two outsiders, a rookie cop named Leon Kennedy, and Chris Redfield's (from the first game) younger sister Claire, wander into the monster infested city. The two get split up from one another only to end up in the police station. They soon find more characters and monsters to contend with, and discover the deep secrets of the Umbrella Corporation as the game goes on.

The controls for the most part remain the same as in the first game, as do the menu options. You still have to backtrack often to "item boxes" to store items you can't hold in your limited inventory menu. This grows tedious, but oh well. I did find that the controls are a bit more responsive this time around. The characters have plenty of differentiation in gameplay, such as how Leon starts with the lighter, whereas Claire can open locks. Plus, both feature different weapon arsenals, so there are plenty of guns.

Perhaps the best aspect of the game is the alternate scenario options introduced for the first time. What this means is that if you started and beat the game as Leon, you then play through the same story through Claire's perspective, and vice versa. The alternate scenario takes place in most of the same areas as the first time, but this time you have to contend with the menacing 7-foot, trenchcoat wearing Neo Tyrant. The idea is that he's constantly stalking you and could appear at any time (this idea was perfected with the Nemesis in RE3). The scenario features might make the game feel shorter than the original, but technically you'd be beating the game 4 times to see all the different endings. There's also a few cool mini games and sidequests to unlock, so you've got plenty of replayability here.

About the only bad thing I can say about RE2 was the fact that the puzzles were a lot more simple and not very challenging compared to the others in the series. It's a minor flaw though and doesn't take much away from the game.

Overall, RE2 is an excellent addition to the series, and expands the original game to new heights. Since it's available on multiple platforms now, it's very easy to come across. NEW FANS SHOULD START HERE, OR ALSO THE GAMECUBE REMAKE, THEN MOVE ONTO THE OTHERS.

When my cousin started talking about the Resident Evil series, I thought I should give them a try. I got this one first, since the first one was all out. I got home and put it in the Playstation. I loved the beginning part, although I was confused not having the first one. First off there are 2 discs for 2 different characters, Leon and Claire. I found out later Claire is related to Chris from the first one.

The graphics are cool, and the zombies are awesome. I played the game in the dark, recommended by a friend and I thought it was as suspenseful as a real movie! The controls are a little confusing at first, but then I got used to them. The puzzles are the only really drawback in this cool game. It took me days just to figure out one puzzle. But I got the hang of it.

If you starve for a grusome game with awesome graphics, look no further than Resident Evil 2. In fact try all the Resident Evil games, I love them all!!

Honest reviews on Resident Evil 2

First off, this is an example from someone who didn't finish the game completly, or lost the game: A gamer, August 15, 2000 Reviewer: A 10-year old gamer from Whittier, CA USA "This is the worst game I have ever played .It is way to short and has no real reason to play becuase its so boreing .So you should not buy this game its a waste of money."

Now, I had played it over and over and over; and yet I still jump at the suprises! This reviewer needs to get a life, as many of us gamers out there loved it, and the only thing that he probably didn't like was the violence and the scarryness of the game, because he is only 10. But if you know the company Capcom, get this game! And if you don't know Capcom, get the first Resident Evil before this one, it helps you know what is going on in this town! This game was one of the few in the world to be good, and I mean really good. So get it or get out because it's not a waste of money, it's a reall good use for money. And don't even think about not getting one for your kids, because they will love it to pieces! Capcom is the creator of Survival Horror and the savior of Survival Horror. So quit reading and get it already!

When you bought a Sony PlayStation in 1998, there were three essential games to buy along with it Final Fantasy VII, Metal Gear Solid, and Resident Evil 2. Why? Because they were more than just video games, they were interactive cinematic experiences that elevated the medium.

The original Resident Evil was a flawed yet fun zombie game that was heavily inspired by George Romero's zombie films. Night of the Living Dead trapped frightened survivors in a house surrounded by flesh-eating zombies, but Resident Evil trapped the zombies inside the house with you. Dawn of the Dead expanded the zombie threat to a city setting, and Resident Evil 2 follows suit.

Resident Evil 2 sees the fictional Raccoon City overtaken with the T-Virus, turning its citizens into zombies. The player assumes the roles of rookie cop Leon Kennedy and Claire Redfield, sister to Chris Redfield, hero of the first game. It's Leon's first day on the job, and Claire hasn't heard from her brother in months. Their paths cross as they discover that they're smack-dab in the middle of a zombie apocalypse. They head for the Raccoon City Police Station, believing it to be safe from the zombie hordes. But they couldn't be more wrong, and it's up to you to help them make it out of Raccoon City alive.

While the first game has a slow burn to it as the player gradually unocvers the truth of the Umbrella Corporation's zombie virus, Resident Evil 2 immediately drops the player into the postapocalyptic world of a zombie-infested city. immersing the player in the seemingly doomed situation. A creepy, ethereal soundtrack and horrific monsters you often hear before you see futher magnify the player's fear and sense of dread about just what terrible surprise could be awaiting them behind the next door or around the next corner.

The game possesses two different scenarios. Which character you play as and the choices you make in Scenario A affect how you play Scenario B with the other character. There are also unlockable features like special weapons, unlimited ammunition, hidden playable characters, and challenge scenarios that further increase the game's replay factor that'll keep you busy for days, if not weeks.

But the game is not without its flaws. For one, the dialogue and voice acting are still in the realm of cheesiness, but it's still a vast improvement over the original game. Controiling your character's movements is still akin to repeatedly trying to do a K-turn with a tractor-trailer. And puzzles often feel out of place for a location like a police station. However, these are minor gripes compared to the overall product's presentation. You really get a feel that you're fighting to survive throughout the course of the game, and you get a sense of accomplishment once you master the game's control scheme because it further aids your survival.

Though the graphics are dated by today's standards and despite its flaws, Resident Evil 2 still ranks as one of the best installments if not THE best installment in the Resident Evil franchise, and its one of the best games in the survival horror genre.

Gauntlet: Dark Legacy

First off, let me apologize for the three preceding reviews, two of them are talking about the wrong product and one isn't telling you anything that helps. The reviewers have no business posting.

For those who are on the fence about whether or not they want to order this game or not, let me help a little. First off, I own the PS2 version of this game. Now, as we've seen so far, either the Gamecube release is exactly the same or improved over the PS2 version. With that in mind, either way this is a five-star game. The game that the misguided reviewers are discussing is Gauntlet Legends. Now, Gauntlet: Dark Legacy basically took Legends, doubled the number of boards and characters, and improved the graphics. There is no need to own Legends, I would just purchase this one, since everything that appears in Legends is encompassed within Dark Legacy.

As far as gameplay goes, if you like hack'n'slash type games, where you can pick up items and build your character, then this is for you. One improvement in this game is that initially there are eight characters that fall under four classes (warrior, archer, wizard, and valkyrie). As you collect the bonus coins on the different levels, you can unlock a few more (four or five, don't remember the exact number). Each class has a dominant trait (strength, armor, speed, and magic) and a special magical ability that grows more powerful at certain level-ups (wizards can use magic to change poison into food).

IMPORTANT TIP IN THIS PARAGRAPH, PLEASE READ:

You can increase each characters traits by leveling up or with gold that you collect. On the PS2 version, once one of your traits maxed out at 999, you wouldn't gain any more for the remaining three traits at level-up. From there on, you would have to increase those with gold. The one thing that upset me, since I didn't know, was that when one trait maxed out, the others reverted back to number they would have reached on their own, therefore wiping out any extra points you purchased for those traits. In essence, you should allow your character to level-up on their own and then once they max out the dominant trait, buy the rest. Basically, you should sit on your gold until one trait reads 999, otherwise you will waste gold. That was my only complaint but once I figured that out, it was a moot point and did not take away from gameplay. One of the other improvements was that one character took up a file on Legends. On the PS2, one file will hold all 12+ characters under one name.

The boards are expansive and very detailed. The enemies are relentless, varying and plentiful. One of the other great things is that the number of enemies and items is dependent upon the number of players. The more the merrier and the more chaotic. Every time I thought I had beaten the game, another board opened up. It's a fairly straight-forward game, kill everything, collect items and gold, buy items, increase character traits at level up, defeat mini-bosses and stage bosses. It's truly an adventure game, the only RPG element is the character traits, but that is the extent. This game is a lot of fun if you just want to fight and not have to do a whole lot of thinking. It's more challenging with multiple players but definitely worthwhile as a single player. There is a certain strategy to some boards to minimize the damage that your character takes.

Basically, if Nintendo changes nothing from the PS2 version, it would still be worth it. Somehow, I feel that they will add or change some things for the better. Either way, it's worth buying. One warning, if you want a true RPG, look elsewhere. This requires minor puzzle solving and very little battle strategy.

This game has been hounded by many reviewers for its less than spectacular graphics and how the gameplay is not intuitive. But Gauntlet delivers exactly what it is supposed to: A hack-and-slash adventure with some new improvements. This is mainly a multiplayer game, but I can tell you that I played it for hours in singleplayer mode and have had a great time. I have two single player games going right now, one with the Warrior and one with a Falconess (secret character). I also have two multiplayer games going with my brother, and we are having a blast. The game requires hours of fighting your way through levels, collecting treasure and items, hitting switches, and raising your experience level (which is highly addictive, by the way). If you are looking for a game with revolutionary gameplay and graphics, then this is not up your alley. But if you simply want a game to sit down and enjoy either by yourself or with a friend, then Gauntlet: Dark Legacy definitely delivers.

Best Deals for Gauntlet: Dark Legacy

In the arcades, this game fed an addiction inside me I didn't know I had. It's over the top fantasy elements (the sorceress is a perfect characature of the overly volumptuous damsiel in distress) and wonderfully slash-happy game play (envision your character standing on a ledge, hundreds of feet above boiling lava, surrounded on all sides by knife wielding mutants, crazed orcs, and kamikaze bomb carriers, all lusting after your untimely and greusome demise) both combine to create a fun and highly addictive gaming experience that's worth the 50 bucks this game will cost you.

This game features 8 starting characters, 20 some odd secret characters, 60 totally different levels, 10 different boss battles (that you can replay for more treasure and experience) 30 power-ups, and more collectibles than you can shake a stick at. This alone is enough replay to make any gamer's head explode, but the maker's also decided to include countless costumes for you character(s) to wear (The dwarf's S&M outfit had me rolling on the floor).

My one gripe with this game is that Midway decided not to update the graphics to take advatage of the gamecube's graphical power. Bad for some, but I enjoyed those old school graphics that made me feel as if I had the arcade coin-op in my own home. (for those of you who are wondering, the feature that made your charater's health deplete over time is thankfully absent in the home version).

The best 4-player game I've owned since super smash bros. melee, and with the ability to save multiple characters on one file, Gauntlet the ultimite pick-up-and-play party in a box.

Honest reviews on Gauntlet: Dark Legacy

I didn't know about the Arcade version of gauntlet

but now that I've played I see why many people say it's great

This game is not ment to played alone because If you play it alone all the demons etc will finish you up.

It's so cool because you can be speaking to you friend and saying

:" Help, me use your magic". cool uh

If you buy games for there graphics you better not buy this

Because the graphics are pretty poor but the gameplay is exelent

The more you play with the character the more powerfull It becomes for exemple I like the blue wizard so I only use him

at level twenty he became the blue mage

that's pretty cool

Thank you for reading my review

Having been a fan of the old arcade gauntlet years ago, my eyes almost bugged out of my head when I saw this title. And though I may, for that reason, be a little biased, I am extremely happy with my purchase.

Although this is not, by any stretch, an RPG (which is where I spend most of my time) the mindless mayhem is a bit of pleasant nostalgia for me. You start with 8 character classes in the beginning and can open up new upgraded versions as you play. Each has four color based skins that change slightly at certain levels.

One of the main drawbacks, in my opinion, is the linear design of the different boards. In each one you are forced to wade through every single monster the designer thought to throw at you, pretty much in a predetermined order.

Overall the game is a lot of fun to play and has pretty good replay value. I have 4 different characters going simultaneously, 3 for me to play alone and one I play with a friend. (Two player combos are great!) I am sure that I will log a lot of hours on this game.

Ace Combat 5: The Unsung War Reviews

Ace Combat 5: The Unsung War
Customer Ratings: 4.5 stars

Okay, this is a awesome game. It has wonderful graphics, the airplane details are superbly represented, and the sound is really good. One of the signature differences between this new title and the previous Ace Combat 4 is the addition of the CGI cutscene movies, whereas the Ace Combat 4 used the storyboard type representation. If you have played Ace Combat 4, this game is easy enough to pick up and jump right in to the action. Minor changes have been made to controls to allow for the "wingman" control scheme with the D-pad. This enables you to direct you wingmen to either cover, attack, disperse and use their special weapons on a target. You can also use the dpad for the standard yes no reply to questions that your wingmen will ask you throughout the game. It does add a nice touch of realism to the game with all the chatter you hear over the radio.

Now, since it has been 3 years since Ace Combat 4, I must say that I really did expect more in the way of advancements, but it truely feels like the same gamestyle, typical storyline, and overall general feel. Of course that is not berateing this game one iota. The graphics are much sharper, the land elevation scenery is much more detailed with trees and brushes now visible. The buildings are also nicely detailed with a higher polygon count. Perhaps the best change made for me is the missile animation you now see when you launch a missile. The missile stream is now much more realistic with the way it curves and actually winds through the air.

If you enjoyed Ace Combat 4, you won't regret buying this game. If you never played Ace Combat 4, then you will truely love this game moreso than the typical veteran Ace Combat player. Great visuals, good storyline and good sound design make this a winner in anyone's book.

Just to mention that you can either play the campaign mode or arcade mode. Arcade mode will have you reprise your role as Morphius from the Ace Combat 4 game. The campaign will carry you in the role of flight leader and allow you to fight with and control your wingmen. Enjoy.

The only other Ace Combat game I've ever played was the first one for the PlayStation. It was impressed with the look and feel of the game. Ace Combat 5 effectively helps me to relive the same enjoyment I had playing the first game.

AC5 does a fantastic job of putting you in the pilot's seat of a fighter jet. The realism is astounding. Plane models look just like real jets, with good detail and believable movement. There are multiple viewpoints available both inside the cockpit and out that can be adjusted. The landscapes in certain missions are stunning to see from 2000 feet in the air. Finally, instant replays with adjustable angles appear after the completion of a mission (or in the event of the player's untimely death). They're reminiscent of the cool-looking replays in Gran Turismo 3.

The music is movie-quality and suits whatever action is taking place. As for sound effects, I don't think they could have been any better. For example, the farther away you are from an enemy when it's destroyed the longer the sound from the explosion takes to reach your ears. If possible, use a 5.1 stereo system with AC5. It sounds awesome.

There's a nice variety of missions, and none are excessively long. Once the campaign mode is complete you can replay any mission from that mode singularly. With 50 models of jets to unlock and use there's plenty of reason to keep playing.

As if all these pros weren't enough, AC5's story isn't bad either. How rare to witness a well told, positive moral in a video game. Communication between pilots during missions adds character depth and makes the gameplay more involving. Some players have complained about the audio chatter being annoying but I didn't find it bothersome.

At it's core Ace Combat 5 is a game with heart. I wholly recommend it.

Best Deals for Ace Combat 5: The Unsung War

Better;

* Excellent graphics, particularly the aircraft models, weather effects and cutscenes.

* The same great gameplay as AC04 with some nice tweaks (e.g. enemy stealth planes are actually harder to detect).

* Lots of missions with a choice of paths through the game (though not as many as AC3), plus refuelings and carrier landings.

* Well written and absorbing plot.

* Numerous and varied aircraft and special weapons, including a fun new super plane and a kill-based 'evolution' system for unlocking improved variants of planes.

* Greatly improved arcade mode, again with a choice of paths, making for a nice half-hour blast.

Worse;

* Ropey mission design. Targets constantly pop up out of nowhere and you get teleported around the map after every cutscene. The action feels more scripted and less like you're flying around a real battle. This is reinforced by the fact that while the target areas are highly detailed, the rest of the maps are quite empty.

* Some of the missions feel like pale shadows of AC04 missions.

* The dialogue is often whiney, unprofessional or just annoying, and often gets out of sync with the action.

* The stats on the aircraft seem to be made up at random, and don't have that much affect on gameplay anyway. The missions aren't designed to make best use of the available weapons, and hence players will never use most of the basic planes and will have little incentive to unlock most of the improved variants. The loss of selectable secondary weapons is a shame.

* Rare but highly annoying bugs; planes fly underground and through buildings, missiles sometimes mysteriously fail to track.

* For the most part the difficulty curve is smooth if a little too easy (even on ace difficulty), but there are a couple of missions that are just unnecessarily frustrating (White Noise and Four Horsemen).

* The two player mode and target shooting range have been removed.

Missed opportunities;

* Fewer targets and no re-arming, making things less frantic. This is a shame as there are some missions where landing and rearm without leaving the battlefield would've worked well.

* The medal gallery is nice, but more unlockables (e.g. rendered beauty shots of aircraft) would have provided more motivation to get those special rankings.

* Giving wingmen orders is fun, but they don't seem to do much or need your protection. Similarly the interactive dialogue could've been cool, but doesn't actually seem to do anything and is hence just distracting.

* No bombers, choppers or VTOL aircraft, to fly or give orders to.

* Music is generally great, but the score for the final missions don't quite have that spine tingling thrill that AC04 had.

Ace Combat 5 is great fun and a high quality title in its own right. However while the graphical tweaks and new features are appreciated, it isn't a major advance over AC04, and the niggling problems prevent it from delivering the same outstanding all-round experience that Shattered Skies provided.

Honest reviews on Ace Combat 5: The Unsung War

I'm updating my review because I have now gotten all the planes--every last one--and must declare it well worth the effort. When I had only 'the best' planes, the missions were not nearly as interesting and oftentimes very difficult to do a sortie at Expert or Ace level because the plane I was using was too fast, didn't perform well at low altitudes, or featured weapons that were only really good for dog fighting. I could be flying the Falken through a mission and my wingmen would get the most kills because I would overshoot my target before I had a chance to lock on and fire and therefore have to go at it again, and the enemy aircraft would shoot me down as I literally jetted past them. The Falken is a great example because, unless your targets are all out in the open, you likely wont be as successful as if you flew something less 'super.'

Which plane you chooose is as important if not more than how you fly it or what kinds of weapons it features. For comparison, if you wanted to play a really great game of golf, you would need a full set of clubs--not just a driver and a putter. Likewise with planes--and I imagine this absolutely must be so in the real world of jet fighters--there is no one super plane that is the absolute best for all situations.

The best thing about this game--even more so than with Ace Combat 4--is how it demands you use strategy in addition to making appropriate choices in which planes your team flies.

Unlike Ace Combat 4, you can't just pick the right plane for yourself and finish the level or all levels practically solo. You need not only the right plane for yourself, but the right plane for your wingman and sometimes a complex combination of plane capabilities for the three other pilots at your command in addition to yourself. And then you have to give them appropriate commands--or you'll fail. Sometimes you even have give the most important strategic role to yourself while giving the more exciting dogfighting role to one of your other pilots.

You can't just have your team cover you and blast away at everything--you'd likely run out of missles and/or time--and even when the software suggests other choices of commands or planes, you have to take command and make the real decisions.

So what I wrote about Ace Combat 4 is far more true of Ace Combat 5. This isn't a game for dummies, and the amount of choice making you have to do in addition to outflying your opponents is what makes this an intelligent game.

They even included a bit of flight school in this one--nice.

My only complaint is about the Arcade Mode. You have to do it all the way from beginning to end. You can't save and finish it off later--which is no good for those of use who don't have hours at a shot to sit there and play video games. I'd rather be able to do a few bits in arcade mode, save it and do more later.

Campaign Mode is just perfect though. Sometimes you're stuck having to do more without saving after a really long and hard level, but it's not over the top difficult or lengthy. Even this adds to the challenge though, as you have to choose planes that you can succeed with in a variety of situations.

Great game; much improved over its previous version without losing anything in the process.

I do wish the playback at the end of each mission showed the weapon strikes at Ace Combat 4 did.

I had long been waiting for this game to come out and now that I've played it; I could have waited longer. Yes, the backgrounds look amazing and the detail of the planes killer, but it was not what I expected.

The contsant chattering from your squad gets very annoying during the game, to the point that I just turned the voice off completely and put a CD on.

I played the game on Hard/Expert/Ace, and the Arcade Mode on all levels. After playing on Expert I really had no desire to play it on Ace, besids that fact of just wanting to beat it on that level. I did not find the game all to hard. I currently have no intension of playing it again. The replay need for this game is simply not there. Its too bad that they took away the VS Mode. Thats one thing that made Ace Combat 4 really fun.

Now we get down to the fighters. In this game you are provided with 50 aircraft from around the world. Most are the same from AC4, but look much better. A bad thing that I found was that you were unable to pick the weapons load for your plane via Ace Combat 4. The need to have to gain experience with a plane in order to get it upgraded model was not worth the time. Planes like the the French Rafael are only allowed to carry their Sidewinder variant for AA Combat and the Exocet Anti-ship Missile for ground targets. Where as in Ace Combat 4, you could load her up with medium ramge missile or air to ground. The same thing with the British Typhoon, nothing but air to air, and no waepons for ground operations. Air to ground missiles on the A-10 & SU-32 have no range what so ever, so why even bother putting them in.

In my opinion the upgrade was interesting yet could have been better,EX: The MiG-29 is not only a bomber but also a Fighter. Plus there is a Carrier version of this plane the MiG-29K as well a Carrier version of the SU-27, the Su-27K. The Britsh Tornado GR4 in Ace Combat 4 is more interesting than the ones in this game. They could have gotten rid of some of the upgrade versions and added more fighters in, Example: A-4 skyhawk, SU-22 Fitter, F-111 Ardvark, SU-24 Fencer, & SU-25 Frogfoot to name a few. Also, what is the point of in-flight refueling when you never run out of fuel?

If your a die hard fan of the series as I was then you'll love the game. If they would have left the VS Mode in then Iwould probably still be playing the game. Also, the ablitly to choose payloads. I guess I'll go to PC Games for a better flight game. If they come out with a # 6, I'll wait to rent it before I get it. Yet, remeber guys this is my opinion, its up to you to make your own. Laters

Xbox 360 HD DVD Player Review

I've been using this Xbox HD-DVD player for almost a month now and so far it works just great. I actually had no plans to buy either Blu-Ray or HD-DVD until one of those losers became a dominate player. Unfortunately it doesn't look like that's going to happen any time soon. And for $200, I couldn't pass it up since I already had an Xbox. And I couldn't bring myself to keep buying low-def regular DVD's with these awesome HD DVD's out there. AND, the HD DVD combo discs still have regular DVD content for normal DVD players in other rooms in the house.

Out of the box, this drive is extremely easy to setup. Just pop in the setup CD, plug it in, and you're ready to go. There is a separate power cord as well. The included remote is nice, but I'll stick with my Harmony 880. It's able to control all the basic functions of the player. The player is also unable take advantage of the improved audio quality of HD-DVD, so you just get the normal "good" audio quality you had with previous DVD's. Which isn't bad, but still somewhat disappointing. Otherwise, all the menu's work nicely, the player starts up fairly quick, and the picture quality is awesome for component video at least.

Component is probably the biggest negative I can think of and that's really due to the Xbox 360's fault, not the player itself. If you think HD DVD looks good on your xbox component connection in 1080i, just wait until you see it via your HDMI port in 1080i or even 1080p (if your TV accept 1080p and is big enough to take advantage of such a high res). Unfortunately, there is no word of HDMI for the xbox. So you only get 1080i via the Component connection. To get 1080p, you need the VGA cable, which has a somewhat better picture.

So I bought the VGA cable. The picture does look a little better on my 61' Samsung HL-S6187W since it's also at 1080p, but there is a 1-3" border around the screen, and the image is tilted. Samsung had no idea how to fix it. But I suspected that might happen since a TV with a VGA port is still a TV, not a PC Monitor. Your results will of course vary depending on your model TV.

The VGA port limitations aren't that big of a deal. If you REALLY want 1080p, you just need HDMI period. I'll live with 1080i via Component for now until the 1080p players come down in price. In the meantime, at least I've got some awesome looking HD movies to watch on my new TV!

Pros:

* Cheapest HD-DVD solution if you have an XBox 360

* Easy to setup

* Accepts IR from your universal remote via the Xbox

* Great picture quality

* Includes Microsoft Remote and free King-Kong HD-DVD

* UPDATE: HDMI Output (with Xbox 360 Elite Only)

Cons:

* Only outputs 1080i via Component (VGA required for 1080p)

* VGA output has limitations, both due to Xbox and/or your TV

* Can't take advantage of HD-DVD improved audio quality formats

Bottom line, if you have an Xbox 360, and have a HD TV, you've gotta pick one of these up. You just can't go wrong for a $200 entry-level HD player!

*** ELITE/HDMI UPDATE ***

Just purchased the Xbox 360 Elite w/ HDMI. This HD DVD player is even more awesome than before. We just watched the entire Matrix Trilogy in HD DVD in 1080p on the 61" Samsung DLP and it looked awesome. When compared to component, the HDMI picture is much more crisp, detailed, and even better black levels. Definately recommended!

Microsoft has released the HD-DVD drive as an obvious counterstrike to the PS3's Blu-Ray capability, but the drive is much more than a bullet point in the console & format war.

PROS: The HD-DVD drive is quite simply the most efficient and cost-effective HD solution for those of us that already own XBOX 360s. However, even if you were to consider buying a 360 with the HD-DVD drive solely for movie watching, it is still very competetively priced compared to the stand-alone models. Adding to its value, the package includes Microsoft's Universal Remote, and a copy of King Kong on HD DVD. The picture and sound quality is superb, as advertised, almost identical to the quality produced from Toshiba's newer HD DVD model. Add all this to the fact that installation and operation is quick and seamless, with load times for discs quicker than that of the Toshiba. Finally, for those of you with super-nice TVs, at the time of release the XBox 360 HD DVD drive is the only HD source (apart from Blu-Ray) that is capable of outputting in 1080p (full HD), if you have a TV that will accept a native 1080p signal.

CONS: There is only one real 'con' that I can think of the drive's lack of HDMI connectivity. Although you can view the stunning 1080i picture over the XBox's HD component cables, for (I believe) copyright protection reasons you can't output HD DVD picture over component, despite the cable's capability. Therefore, if you want to take full advantage of the drive's picture capabilities, you'll have to utilize the seperately-sold VGA HD cable ($39.99), and this will only work if you have an 1080p HD monitor with PC/VGA input. Even with this, on my TV (Samsung 1080p DLP), a little black box is drawn around the picture frame, which slightly reduces the picture size, despite the increadible quality. Also worth mentioning is that while the drive has the same upconversion cababilities as the other HD DVD & Blu-Ray models for standard DVDs, this too is only obtainable through use of the VGA cable. Finally, without HDMI, the drive can't make full use of the newest HD Dolby Digital & DTS surround audio tracks, instead downconverting to the standard DD & DTS tracks you're used to on standard DVDs (still good quality, though).

In conclusion, the drive is fantastic, a tremendous value. Although the capability range of the drive is limited through the lack of HDMI connectivity, for most people this isn't going to be an important factor. Most people, even those with nice HDTVs, don't have 1080p TVs or 7.1 channel audio receivers with HD decoding capabilities. Hopefully, though, Microsoft will eventually produce an HDMI port for the XBox, which will unleash the drive's potential. In the meantime, this wonderful, small HD DVD player will be more than sufficient for most everyone looking to step in to the world of True HD (even those of us that can currently get around the 1080p issue with an extra cable).

If you have an XBOX 360 and and HDTV, this HD-DVD drive add-on is a no brainer. Microsoft utilized the 360's three processor cores and implemented a software based solution for decoding HD video. The results are pretty amazing. The picture generated over a component cable connection is crystal clear and beautiful. Colors are strong and vibrant, and the picture quality is light years beyond DVD. I've found the alternative format (Blu-Ray) to be washed out and not nearly as clean and crisp as the HD-DVD format on my Samsung DLP (1080i). I was thoroughly impressed, and extremely happy that I made this purchase.

For a limited time, the package also includes a 360 media remote and a King Kong HD-DVD. Can't beat it. Worth every penny.

Honest reviews on Xbox 360 HD DVD Player

This is a great product if you already own the XBOX 360. As everyone has already mentioned, it's no-brainer for $200.

Pros:

· Incredible 1080i picture that blows away any HD transmission from your cable/satellite provider even at 1080i at least on my HDTV.

· Runs much quieter than the noisy regular DVD drive of the XBOX 360

· Up-scales regular DVDs. I did a real-time comparison with a regular DVD movie and quickly switched it from the XBOX 360 regular DVD tray and then into the HD-DVD player. I witnessed an incredible upscale in visual quality to the point that it was almost as good as an actual HD-DVD movie. The other amazing thing about my little experiment was that since both drives are "powered" through the same XBOX 360 processor/"brain", upon switching from one drive to the next, the XBOX was "smart" enough to pick up right where I stopped to the exact second in the scene from the regular DVD player. I was pretty impressed by that. Not sure how I would apply that again in the future, but it was cool nonetheless.

Cons And it's a major one if you own any of the Sony SXRD line of HD TVs:

· No HDMI output = No 1080p picture if you own a Sony SXRD line of HDTVs like me. I have the amazing Sony SXRD 50" rear projection LCD TV which defies logic at how sharp the picture is and how vivid the colors are in HD. With that said, I have yet to enjoy a 1080p picture on it because: 1) My cable provider transmits only a 720p/1080i picture (which I believe every satellite/cable provider is currently limited to in the US), and 2) XBOX 360 can only "transmit" a 1080p picture through a VGA cable. Though my TV does have a VGA input, a 1080p picture can only be possible utilizing the HDMI inputs.

· Conflicting XBOX Helpdesk supportWhen talking to XBOX support, their helpdesks gave me conflicting advise about whether or not my TV would project a 1080p picture through my VGA input. However, when I touched base with Sony, they were quite clear that the VGA connection for my TV would only go up to 1080i. The HDMI cable was necessary for 1080p.

You might say, "So freakin' what?" However, when you've paid a considerable amount of money for a TV that has 1080p capability over a substantially less expensive TV that can only go up to 720p/1080i you get the drift.

Hopefully, Microsoft can come up with a HDMI solution for current XBOX 360 owners (not just the rumored XBOX 360 version 2) and this problem will be solved. All in all, despite all of this 1080p nonsense, the HD player is a solid little add-on and I still highly recommend it.

I've been watching HDTV programming for quite a while now, so I was expecting only a minor improvement going to HD-DVD/Blu-ray. Boy was I wrong! The picture quality on the included King Kong disc is absolutely stunning! The difference isn't the resolution, but rather the lack of compression artifacts, and the great care taken in the making of this HD transfer. I hadn't realized how much I had gotten accustomed to the compression artifacts in HDTV broadcasts. The stunning clarity of a well-mastered HD source really caught me by surprise. If you've already got an Xbox 360 and an HDTV, this HD-DVD drive is well worth the purchase.

Setup is extremely easy. Plug it into the wall, but don't plug it into the Xbox just yet. Power up the Xbox and plop the update CD into the internal drive. It will install an update to your system and then prompt you connect the external drive via the included USB cable. That's it! Put in a movie and enjoy!

Navigation with a remote works well, just like a normal DVD player. I actually used my univeral remote, so I can't comment specifically on the bundled Microsoft remote, but it looks pretty typical.

As a bonus, this drive is recognized by Windows XP when plugged into a USB2 port. At the moment, there's no way to watch the movie itself, but you can see all the files on the disc, and it brings hope that with the next releases of PowerDVD/WinDVD, we might be able to watch HD-DVD movies on a PC using this drive.

I was looking for a way to play region coded imported games without hacking into my Xbox 360 S. This was the solution I was looking for. Hacking a 360 S runs the risk of voiding the warranty and getting banned from Xbox Live. The Japanese Xbox also plays Xbox original games after downloading backwards compatibility from Xbox live. It has audio and subtitle English translations so language isn't a problem unless the game played is strictly a Japanese language game. It has a little more machine noise than the 360 S but not noticeable once a game starts. I was skeptical about buying a second Xbox but it was well worth since I'm into playing hardcore, gory, adults only import games.

Great game, but default settings for the XBOX 360 controller are terrbilbe just like the first one.

Counter-intuitive vs. Shift 1, but try the below and see if it makes a difference. I have tested extensively in both race and drift modes and can absolutely say the game just works for me now!

Feedback appreciated.

Quake has a long, infamous history as a hard-hitting first person shooter that is not afraid of gore. With the XBox 360, Quake truly steps up its attention to detail.

This classic game has been around for eons. I remember the old days of Doom and Hexen and wow, have we come far since then! We now see a very cinematic version of the FPS epic series, with cinematic style intro sequences reminiscent of Alien and other great sci-fi series.

You're in essence a space marine, part of the Rhino group. Your team is shot down from the sky while landing on a hostile planet, taking out the Strogg. From that point forward, all you need to know is that you have to blow up pretty much everything that moves.

I'm sure, with the never-ending sequence of sequels that come out, that people will compare this to old versions of Doom and Quake. They'll also compare it to Halo. Really, unless you want to play with old-system games for years on end, you have to find other things to play. I love Halo and Halo 2. But eventually I want to play new games, if only to try out new maps.

Quake has a whole different look-and-feel than Halo does. It's a different universe, a dark, bloody one full of industrial grunge. It's more "gritty". And, to be honest, as much as I love Halo, I really appreciated the marines in Quake 4. They appeared to actually work as a team. My medic and techie hung out near me, healing me and giving me support. In Halo it seemed like your teammates were the traditional "red uniformed security dudes" from Star Trek only around to act as cannon fodder during the current episode. In Quake 4, they were much more long lasting, if you played things well.

Is this a killer app? Probably not. The graphics are rather impressive on the HD TV but for example the sky is static. Pretty, but static. The textures down in the mines are detailed, bloody, grungy and very dark but it gets repetitive. The gameplay is simply blasting, blasting more, blasting more and some dodging. The sound is a stream of bullet blasts.

But that being said, that is all the Quake series has ever intended to be. It's a fun way to blow off steam. You have a hard day at work or school, and you come home to blast away enemies for a few hours. It's very stress-relieving. You feel like you make some progress, it's easy to save and pick up the story later on. No complex puzzles, no intricate stealth sequences. It's all about blasting away with great accuracy.

If you're a FPS shooter fan, it would seem silly to sit stationary and hold your breath until you turn blue, or until Halo 3 finally emerges. Buy Quake 3, have fun blasting away at dark-and-gloomy enemies, and tune your skills. Other games will be coming out eventually for you to get that eye candy you crave.

Much maligned game. Unfairly. For those not in-the-know, the Quake franchise is basically what the ID guys did after they got bored with Doom. Quake4 is what they did after they got bored with Doom3. Doom 3 PC-to-xbox was well received, Quake4 wasn't well received in general, but the PC-to-360 translation seems to have gone fairly well though some complain of frame rate issues. They never bothered me. The other games you will have seen in the Doom3 engine / xbox universe would be Prey and the upcoming QuakeWars. Wolfenstein (very ugly looking port on the xbox) was Quake3 engine so not related.

CONS:

early desert levels look uninspired, boring. If you left the game early, I can see why it got such bad press.

goofy arcade shoot-`em-up game elements in which you shoot stuff and it flies up into the air. Reminds me of a boorish arcade game.

PROS:

fantastic looking Doom3 engine.

once you get beyond the external desert levels, much better maps and environments begin to kick in.

variety of enemies with their own characteristics.

slight twist on the health/armor pack. You also have techs that occasionally travel with you and can fix your health and armor. the also use the health station concept that Half-Life2 uses.

good array of weapons. The weapons get upgrades which is nice. The lightning gun can hit multiple targets. I especially like the Dark Matter Gun which shoots a slow beautiful purplish-black inky deathlike projectile.

no need to consult the internet due to glitches or non-intuitive gameplay.

Again, I don't know where to place the story. It's like criticizing a bad low-budget horror movie, it's almost unfair. But anyway I do like the story-twist where they make you the enemy, giving you access to enemy health packs, enemy language, etc (Prey also works this way) although the process by which this happens is too reminiscent of a cut-scene toward the end of Half-Life2. Doom3 Resurrection of Evil also ripped-off the Half-Life Gravity Gun so apparently the ID guys like Half-Life a lot. Consider it an homage.

And why is this guy still only a corporal after saving the planet?

It isn't Halo, it isn't trying to be. It's trying to be a good Doom3 derivative and that's exactly what it's good at.

Best Deals for Quake 4 - Xbox 360

Sometimes, very rarely a 3D shooter playes better on a console than it does on a PC. Well, it's not one of those times. As a matter of fact for those who have played a PC version of Quake 4, playing it on Xbox 360 will be a huge step down. Surely the HDTV graphics are there and overall the game looks similar to the PC version, but controls are again the weakest link here.

Well, since the opening was about the "bad parts" of the game, let's go ahead and get though them before we get to the "good ones".

Having played Quake 4 on PC, and deciding to be a hot shot by start the Xbox 360's verion right away on the "corporal" difficulty, I quickly realized how bad of an idea that was. Aiming is certainly something that takes a good time to get used to with a controller. But even after about 5 hours I was still no where near good at locking into enemies and strafe dodging shots as I was on a PC after only 10 minutes of play.

Surely by switching to the "private" difficulty I was able to get though the game with a relative ease but the excitement wasn't there. All underminded by the fact that 3D shooters are meant to be played with a keyboard and a mouse.

The graphics in this game while not "Half-Life 2" realism like, are certainly pretty. And if you enjoy watching people get cut in half with saws, you will certainly appreciate all the character, textures, particle effects (yes, blood) and lighting quality of this game. (On the same note, if you enjoy it TOO much, you may want to see a doctor *wink*).

The problem, however, lies in the inconsistent FPS (Frames Per Second). Many times FPS plunge into low teen numbers, making the game a slide show for a few seconds. It wouldn't have been a problem if that happend every now and then but frames don't stay consistent for more than a couple of minutes at a time. Combined with already hard to work with targeting system, it can bring pure hell in certain situations and quickly lead to death. Which then leads to perhaps the last big problem in the game long "loading" times. Loading times can last in excess of 30 seconds. And although they don't appear often if you progress though the game (about once every 30 minutes), they can become enormously irratating if you keep dieing. In situations where it takes more than simply shooting at the enemy (usually boss fights), it may lead to situations of running into a room, getting nailed with one hit and looking at "loading" screen. It can test a patience of those who are not sure what they are doing and die in seconds only to look at spinning Quake logo for half a minute, over and over.

On the good side, however, the game is a well made 3D shooter from the point of level designs, overall graphics, and a relatively deep storyline for a what most would consider "mindless shooter". The story is easy to get into: Stroggs are continuing the fight against the human race. So as one of the marines you get dropped off on their planet to show them who the boss is. The missions are the ones that tell you story from a "brotherhood" military point perspective. You know that the war is going on, but inside the game it's more about surviving together with fellow marines. Assigned to the squad, you constantly on the move to help others, and AI (CPU controlled NPCs) do a surprisingly good job helping you as well. Which certainly takes away the feeling many other shooters give you that you are actually "baby sitting" the NPCs instead of working as a team.

Through out the game you get to know quite a few peronalities and spend most of the game fighting along side of them. Never knowing who will live and who will die. It isn't until you get deeper inside enemy bases that makes you understand why this game deserves a strong "M" rating. The images of graphical torture of captured fellow marines, blood and gore are everywhere. But what can you expect from a complex called "Strogg's Medical Facility"?

The level and environemt designs are good, but at times can get a bit seamless. And the fact that many missions force you going back and forth though same rooms certainly doesn't help. But it isn't significanly de-valueing the game overall.

There is a good choice of weapons in the game that get modified through out the game for a bigger punch. And there are a number of vehicles available for the use through out the short missions (usually outside). It seems fun but certainly nothing you haven't aleady seen before in other 3D shooters.

Multiplayer is pretty good and certainly adds a good amount of fun to the game. However, Xbox 360's version suffers from the same problems mentioned above. Where things like precise controls play bigger role than they do in a campaign mode. Making a PC version truly shine and leaving 360's version in the dust.

Overall, this game is an almost perfect example of what you would expect from "big hitter" companies like Raven Software and Id Software. But I wish they had taken a slight risk and tried to add something new to the game to spice it up and make it stick out from the rest.

PC version of this game strongly deserves 4.5 our of 5 stars. Xbox 360 version, however, is proabably somewhere in between of 3.5 and 4 stars out of 5. Mostly due to problems mentioned in the beginning of this review. One thing can be guaranteed is that you will have a blast playing it if you are into linear Gory, and Bloody 3D "twitch" shooters. The only suggestion here is to get the game for a PC if you have a powerful enough computer. If you don't, you will still have a blast on Xbox 360. Just probably not as a big one.

Honest reviews on Quake 4 - Xbox 360

Ok here is the deal... The online support for this game just plain fumbled. I mean playing in the actual matches is as good as I would want it to be it's just a long journey to get there.

No split screen multiplayer support? That's just plain mean.

As for the single player mode, I absolutely love it. The graphics are artisticly top notch (on my 48" HDTV looks INSANE) but there are technicly really rough. I'm not sure why Raven let this get through to the retail build, hell I would have waited 6 more months for this game to be perfect. There has been some ranting about frame rate issues but in the few instances I have noticed it I wasn't too concerned.

I purchased 5 games with my launch day bundle including Perfect Dark Zero and Call of Duty 2. Both games rate way higher across the board on all the major game sites but frankly Quake 4 is so much fun I haven't even touched the other 2 save for giving them a quick try.

In the end fun is the name of the game, and this game has me hooked big time!

Enjoy,

-

This game is fast paced, decent for a shooter, and quite gory at certain points. I didn't get this game for Quake 4, though. I opted for the nostalgia of Quake 2. Yes, the game came out in 1997, but it brought back memories of playing it then. Too bad you can't adapt a ball track mouse and keyboard for use with this game.

First the good, arrived early and well packaged. Simple enough to put on and a good varity of choices on the textures. They stay on better than other brands I have tried, and do not require any tools to put them on. Well made and sturdy.

Now the bad, of the 6 pieces, only 2 had decent grip on skin. I playedagame of Firefight on Reach, and the slick covers kept sliding out from my thumbs, resulting in my repeted annihilation and humiliation. The rest are simply too slick, I did try cleaning them with isopropanal to remove any manufacturing release agents, but the other 4 pieces remained a bit too slick for my preferance. A bit dissapointing as I have multiple controllers and thought this would be great for putting skins on all of the sticks. No go on that. But they do look good.

Bottom line, for the price this is a great value, try to get 2 gel cover tabs for this price, but you can't. The seller did a great job on the price and delivery, it's just the actual product that fails to meet expectations.
