In my rush to order this game, I missed the barely visible reference to needing a steam account under the "DRM" section of the description. I already have and like Steam, so no big deal. The product page should be a little clearer though. The download referenced is merely a STEAM authentication code. If I had known this, probably would have just bought it directly through Steam, which would've been easier.

For those that may not know, this game is based on the popular Ducktales afternoon cartoon show of the Disney Afternoon series of the eighties/early nineties.

This game is great, a nostalgic look back at one of the greatest 8 bit NES games ever. I have had a blast with the couple hours I've spent with it. When this game was mentioned at Wayforward's (the game developer) comic con panel, they said they brought back many of the show's original voice talents, one of which was Alan Young, who is now 93, who voices Scrooge McDuck. The music has also been totally re-vamped, still has those shreds of 8 bit midi awesomeness weaved in there though: AMAZING. It has a ton of unlockables that allow you to open up the original 8 bit theme music and play the game to that instead! It also has Steam achievements, which I love.

If you don't know what DuckTales is as either the show or the 8 bit videogame, you should skip this. This is not the greatest game ever as I've seen lots of critics pounce on it for design choices (it is a 2D platformer after all.) They are missing the point. This game immediately took me back to coming home from school to an empty house (mom and dad both worked) and feeling that awesome anticipation for watching this show (along with the rest of the Disney Afternoon). A couple of the original show's writers referenced that viewers had told them that the Disney Afternoon had actually raised them, that those years spawned a lot of latchkey kids, who had to fend for their selves, due to both parents working to make ends meet.

I found the gameplay to be excellent, maybe not quite as tight as the original 8 bit, but close. The visuals are jaw dropping: after playing this, I watched a play through of the NES version on youtube. You can see how much effort these guys put in to this. Really, really beautiful painted backgrounds, new character animations, and the already mentioned soundtrack. (Many panel-goers at comic con reportedly got misty eyed when the devs played the re-imagined "Moon Theme" soundtrack. I know I would've.)

This is more than a game, it's a piece of history/nostalgia. Ducktales gave me a sense of hope and adventure as a kid, which was something I sorely needed.

If you were like me, and looked forward to the Disney Afternoon after a heinous day at school, this game is for you. It's worth your $15.

This is actually my favorite Wii U game. I remember playing DuckTales back in 1989. It's still a fun platformer and this remake does it right.

THE GOOD

WayForward treated the game with respect. It added beautiful 3D backgrounds, bold 2D character sprites, and adorable cutscenes. The platforming isn't Mario, but the unique mechanic of the pogo stick makes it fun. Some people have complained about the cutscenes, but guess what? You can skip them very easily! In fact, I'd say the game is generally very good about letting you skip cutscenes and scoreboards at the end when compared to Mario.

THE BAD

The only bad thing about the game is that the jumping mechanic from ropes doesn't work all that well. This is usually not a problem except for the last stage (which I am sure was not in the original game), which requires a lot of ripe-jumping.

THE VERDICT

I love that WayForward remade this game. I only hope we get more like this (Darwking Duck and Chip & Dale deserve remakes too).

When I was a kid, this Disney show was one of my most favorite. Not only did I not know that the show ran for only 100 episodes, or that it inspired a Darkwing Duck spin-off, but I didn't even know that they had their own video games, including a sequel, both which were made by Capcom, the same company that made Mega-Man games, and the VS Calvin games.

Scripts McDuck, his nephews, Huey, Duey and Louie, His niece, Webbigail, Webby for short, go on a treasure hunt when they discover a treasure map hidden away inside Scrooge' s painting, after saving it from Scrooge' s enemies, the Be able Boys.

With help from his friends, including Launch pad McQuack, Duckworth, Mrs. Beakly, Buba Duck, and even Gizmo-Duck, Scrooge begins his hunt for the treasures that are revealed on the treasure map. Along the way, although he gets help from his friends, and his nephews, he gets a run-in from his two old foes; a lady witch-like duck named Magica DeSpell and his foe, a Scotland duck named Flint-Heart Clompgold, who will stop at nothing to get the treasure before HE does..., unless Scrooge beats them to it first.

The fun thing about this "Remastered" version is the fact that you can jump into, and swim around in Scrooge' s money bin. The downside? Well, even though you get jewels that get you money, they have background art, concept art, even TV art that you can WASTE that money on. As far as I'm concerned, I may not be Scrooge McDuck myself..., but I don't have to be to know that that would actually be breast thing that he himself would ever waste HIS money on.

Despite all of that, this isn't that bad of a game. If the original game, which I myself haven't played, was good, than this version... is the best. If you're a DuckTales fan, like me and anyone else out there who is a Fan of the show, and their movie, Treasure of the Lost Lamp, and weather you have played the original, or not, give this one a try. You might be surprised.

5 stars out of 5, and a 10 out of 10 for DuckTales Remastered: The Video Game.

You feel the luck..., Duck? ;)

Honest reviews on DuckTales: Remastered

This game is incredible on all accounts. Not only did they improve on the video and the sound effects, but the music is stellar as well. This remastered version takes a filet mignon that is Ducktales on the NES and turns into a 10 course fancy feast. Every stage is lengthened with extra play scenes with cinematic scenes throughout. All the missing pieces that were never explained in the NES are explained here.

Be prepared to have a very fast computer as this game is a CPU and video memory hog. The video is that good that it needs all that power. This game is worth every penny. I highly recommend it if you are from the 8-bit or even 16-bit era.

Some of the big game review sites like IGN and Gamespot have been giving this title a bad wrap. I'm here to tell you to IGNORE the haters!

As a fan of the original DuckTales for the Nintendo Entertainment System, I found myself feeling skeptical about this "Remastered" version of the game. Why would you want to mess with something so great? Did the game really need to be updated with the latest graphics and audio? The answer is YES!

Aside from the updated graphics and music (the soundtrack is amazing!) Disney tracked down the original voice actors from the DuckTales cartoon series (1987 1990) even Alan Young (voice of Scrooge McDuck) at 93 years old was down for some Duckberg shenanigans!

Disney added animated cut scenes into the game a nice touch! Makes it feel more cinematic like the TV show!

In short, this game rocks. It's a great tribute to a fantastic game and is totally worth every penny!

Its not obvious from the product description (or instructions), but this guitar will work with the WII system both with and without the WII remote attached.

Without the Wii-mote attached, you must plug in the included usb reciever into your WII system, find and press the tiny button on the usb reciever until the led for WII lights up, then flip the switch on the guitar to one of the WII modes. The nice thing about this mode is you don't need another Wii-mote. The one drawback I found was that you lose the ability to trigger the "motion activated" game controls found in some of the games.

With the Wii-mote attached, you DO NOT plug in the usb reciever, or even need to put batteries into the guitar. It functions just as any other passive Wii guitar body. One problem you will find with inserting the Wii-mote is that somewhere down the line someone in manufacturing was able to cut costs by getting dongle-plugs with the little plastic nub that the strap can go through. But the slot for the Wii-mote was obvously not designed to accomodate the plastic nub. It makes the Wii-mote stick up an eight of an inch too high, where the back cover plate rubs against the buttons making them get stuck down, or pressed randomly. Which makes game playing impossible. Fortunately, snapping off the plastic nub with a pair of pliers is a quick simple solution that anyone should be able to apply. This guitar now works just as well as my origial Band Hero version.

Madden NFL 2003
Customer Ratings: 4.5 stars

Madden 2003 is the best football game out there in every aspect except possibly one; Graphics. Sega's NFL 2K3 takes that category, but not bu much. However, Madden takes everything else. Gameplay is tight, so when you press a button, it corresponds instantly. Realism is amazing. Players act and move like actual NFL players. The 'Ask Madden' feature is great, and it actually relates to the game. So if it's 3rd and 18, Madden will tell you to pass.

No one comes close to touching Madden in Game Modes. Mini-camp mode is very fun and addictive. Football 101 explains how to play the game, Create-a-Playbook is a great way to learn how to set up plays, and various other modes will keep you playing for hours on end.

Game sounds are realistic, and really help the game. The music is awesome. There are 11 songs, not just one, so you don't get one annoying song stuck in your head.

Overall, Madden is the best football game for any system right now in existence. There are so many ways to enjoy this game, so go buy it and try to find them all.

Madden NFL 2003 is a definite improvement over last year's offering but a few minor flaws will keep the game from earning five stars.

I'll discuss what I don't like about the game first. There are three main problems: the music, the graphics, and your profile manager. For some reason EA has decided to drop standard menu music and use a host of tracks all straight from the latest beer comercials. Non-standard menu music is potentially a good thing, but a poor selection of songs is not. Don't get me wrong, not all of the music is terrible and you can skip over songs you don't like, but the feature is screaming out for the ability to play songs from the hard drive.

Graphically speaking, 2003 is sharper and clearer than 2002 with much better and more varied player animations. The crowd looks much better as well (before it was so bad it was distracting). Unfortunately though, the graphics engine is optimized to the lowest common denominator of the multiplatform world and doesn't take advantage of the immense power of the Xbox.

A final complaint is that in last year's edition of the game you could save your playbook choice to your profile. Now you can't and have to choose your playbooks before every game.

Of course, what makes that such a problem is the absolutely fantastic new playbook editing features. You can completely customize your playbooks for offense and defense, drawing from any of the playbooks in the game and you can create your own plays and even entirely new formations. Of course you can also edit any existing play or formation. I believe it is this feature and its astounding depth that will keep fans of franchise style simulation football playing this game until the 2004 edition is released. There is so much room for creativity on the offensive side of the ball that is just unbelievable. It is much harder to design a new defensive formation that really works well against the computer beyond the standard 4-3, 3-4, 46, Nickel, Dime, and Quarter formations, but trying to do so will teach you why those formations work and help you to design new plays for them. Overall, the editable playbooks will really reward you for understanding your team on its deepest levels. You will need to change it constantly as your team changes and you face different opponents with different styles. On offense, if you have a multi-dimensional talent like Marshall Faulk, you can design formations that exploit the mismatches he creates. On defense you can design plays that optimize the talents of your different players. So, for example, if you have a great coverage linebacker who tackles poorly and a fast, hard-hitting safety who covers poorly, you can design a few plays that allow them to switch responsibilites and catch an unwary offense off guard. Of course, where the editable playbooks will really shine is in head to head confrontation with a friend as the better prepared will have a huge advantage. I really can't say enough about how cool this feature is and how much it adds to the simulator experience.

Another new feature to the game is the Minicamp. There are 30 camps (although only about ten or so totally different drills) that try and teach basic football skills through drills and applied game situations. The feature is nice and finally provides a good way to learn how to play defense effectively.

The franchise mode is where a Madden fan will likely spend most of his or her time and it has been improved as well. You now get four preseason games that you can use to evaluate and even improve your players. So if you've got a hot new rookie you can actually make him a lot better if you're willing to risk injury by exposing him in all the games. The only annoying part of the preseason is that the computer will keep starters in for unrealistically long periods early in the preseason. Another new feature to the franchise mode is the Scouting Combine which goes a long way towards making the draft more of a game within the game. However, they still haven't quite gotten the true feel of a draft...you will basically never find sixth or seventh round gems. The talent is mostly gone by the end of the third round.

Finally, the gameplay in 2003 is much improved. It is fairly obvious the folks at EA listened to our complaints because the defenses are, overall, much tougher and smarter. You can no longer rush for 200 yards and throw for 400 yards on any difficulty in every game at will anymore. You have to work for your yards. Fifty yard field goals are not automatic. The end result of this is a much more realistic game of football, with more realistic scores, stats, 3rd down percentages, and so on. The audio commentary is definitely improved even though they recycled way to many lines from last year. Al Michaels is a nice change of pace and does a fine job in his debut here.

So, in the final analysis, if you liked last year's Madden, you're going to love this one.

Another year, another Madden. One really can't go wrong this year, as both Sega and EA sports have put out 2 great games. Here is my take on Madden:

PROS: Very deep gameplay, multiple modes (great new Mini-camp option lets you work on specific aspects of football), realistic football simulation. Graphics are quite good, although a good bit of clipping happens, especially during replays. Game sounds are pretty good, too. Overall, a lot of fun.

CONS: Computer can still pick you apart with the passing game. QB's are hard to sack, even with the best D-line you can have, and average receivers will routinely make spectacular grabs while triple covered by pro bowl defensive backs. CPU clock management is better, but the computer will still call a play and line up with only 2 seconds to go before the 2 mnts warning. The control is good, but a bit jerky and unrealistic when tackling. The voice commentary gets old FAST. The good folks at EASports recycled at least half of Madden's "unique" sayings from last year's game, which is ... cheesy.

Overall the positives outweigh the negatives, but I just wish someone could get pass coverage right for a change...

Honest reviews on Madden NFL 2003

NFL Fever has prettier graphics, but neither Fever nor Sega NFL 2k3 can beat Madden 2003 for its gameplay, options, and ability to control the abilities of both individual players and entire groups of players.

Graphics: The quarterbacks look a little malnourished compared to Fever and NFL 2k3; otherwise the graphics are excellent. In contrast, I was not as impressed with Sega's version of the game. In Madden, the crowds and the stadiums were drawn with more detail than Sega's game. The crowd really gets into the game and is very vocal.

Gameplay: The AI is superb. It adapts to your style of play including your tendency to throw to a particular receiver or use a certain play. In addition, the officials on the field actually spot the ball after each play. This makes the two minute drill much more fun and realistic. The guys holding the yard markers are an outstanding touch. They actually run out of the way or get knocked down when a ball carrier runs at or into them. In pass coverage, the secondary is very good at keeping receivers in front of them.

A huge plus is the ability to downgrade or upgrade a particular skill of the players such as passing accuracy, tackling, blocking, or running the ball. You use sliders on one of the menu screens without having to go through EVERY running back, quarterback, or receiver and change each player's attributes. By the way, you can do that too if you choose.

Playbook: The playbook is excellent and is tailored for each team. Customer playbooks and plays can also be made. Plays can be set in a predefined formation. Custom formations can also be made. Player routes can be precisely drawn on a gridsquare, and a variety of moves such as breaking in and out of a turn at a certain angle can be added.

Computer simulation of league games: The computer also accurately simulates all games that you choose not to play based on the player attributes that you assign each team. I don't see quarterbacks throwing 55 TD's in a season with only 4 int's or running backs averaging 8 yards a carry and over 2500 yards a season like I used to on Sega's game. By the way, in Sega's game, you can't alter all of the players' attributes. It also doesn't have as many choices for changing different skill sets as Madden does. If you can only buy one game or have time to play one, Madden is the one to get.

Find helpful customer reviews and review ratings for Madden NFL 2003

PROS:

The mini-camp games are fun and addictive. They basically consist of passing, running, tackling and kicking skills. Depending on your performance during these drills, you will either earn a bronze, silver, or gold trophy. Earning a gold trophy will unlock certain cheats which makes the replay value of these games very high.

Better tackling animations including gang tackles.

Running plays are more challenging. On Madden 2002, I would always gain huge chunks of yards by running around my tackles and guards rather than going through the holes that are created at the line of scrimmage. Now, the linebackers are more smarter and intuitive and will more than likely stuff me for a no gain or loss unless I mix up the type of running plays.

Passing remains just as callenging as ever. Corner backs will stick to recievers like glue. I've also noticed that when controlling the defense, my defensive backs are more likely to snag an interception when the ball is thrown right to them. Gone are the days that a ball would bounce off my defender's helmet.

I liked the game presentations included at the beginning of a contest. Al Michaels and John Madden now give their thoughts as to key matchups and what both teams should be looking for to win.

CONS:

The player models are very cartoonish. Heads and hands are bigger in proportion the the body and the uniforms give the appearance that they are made of plastic due to the shiny reflections that are given off. I get the impression that the Xbox version is a direct port from the PS2 version. Players lack much detail and seem a little jagged and blurry.

The franchise mode is basically the same, with the exception of a combine mode that allows a gamer to assign 15 players he or she wants to scout. Once you have chosen these 15 players, more detailed information will be provided such as individual ratings and potential. Given NFL 2k3's total and awesome makeover of their "franchise" mode, Madden 2003 seemed a little underwhelming.

The real question to football fanatics that own an Xbox is which game to buy? Personally, I would have to go with Madden since they cater to the true football connosieur. The gameplay is tight and smooth. The presentation is exciting and awesome. Additions such as the mini-camp games make the game more addicting as it is. I didn't even mention the further addition of a playbook creator since I have yet to try it out. But the idea of having six recievers going downfield seems pretty inviting. NFL 2k3 is amost there. In my opinion, another year of seasoning for that franchise might just completely snatch the crown away from EA Sports.

Cheap Xbox 360 Rock Band Portable Drum Kit

Xbox 360 Rock Band Portable Drum Kit
Customer Ratings: 4.5 stars
Buy Now
I got this drum because it's cheap and I thought maybe at least something about it would be fun to mess around with. I have an ion, but my pedal is too loud and I also wanted to get something I could take with me on the go to a friends' house. Well this thing worked as well as the other reviewers have said. The pedal in this kit is better and makes less impact noise than any pedal on the market, and if you can stick the pads down in one place, they seem to work perfectly as well. The only downside is that you pretty much have to use this with the included sticks, because the pads are too hard. The sticks in the box are rubber to compensate. Using wooden sticks on these is too loud to stand.

Another added perk of this kit is that the controller can be plugged in standalone and used like an NES controller for arcade games, as long as the games don't use the shoulder buttons. Also, people who are interested in modding projects can use the little controller part as the "brain" for a custom drum kit. People have used this to turn their nice electronic kits into RB kits!

Let me reiterate again that the pedal on this is better than the stock ion pedal in terms of noise and equal in function. Get a 1/4" to 1/8" converter and use it with your ion.

In every way, this product is worth your money if you're looking for any of the above features.

ADDITION: I am adding this to the review as a caution: the sticks that this comes with seem to be susceptible to breaking at the middle where they screw together. Now, I know that all drum sticks break eventually, but just be prepared to try to locate some rubber-head sticks as backups because you really can't play this too well with a wooden head.

UPDATE 6/29/09: The pedal for this is still working great, and I still use it with my expensive Ion drum kit. I play on expert now better than ever, and this pedal is very accurate and much easier to double tap to get those super-rapid beats. The official pedal I bought recently doesn't respond well at all to quick rapid pushes like this does. I even got a second portable kit just so I could have a spare, and the second one works just as well.

Overall, the quality of this product is top notch. I'll start with the bad and work into the good.

BAD----By itself, the drumkit has to be placed on a flat surface like a table or desk. For those who are used to the standard Rock Band Drumkits, the pads are angled towards the player rather than flat. I guess it's a matter of personal preference but I see this as a negative feature.

BAD----The kick pedal is in the shape of a box rather than the shape of a foot. It is very awkward to use and if you're used to the standard kick pedal, this is a bad alternative.

GOOD----The drum pads themselves are highly sensitive. Never in the past 6 months of using this product have I missed any notes due to the pads not being able to register a hit whether they are soft hits or hard hits. The pads are very reliable for fast parts i.e. Everlong on expert.

GOOD----The drums pads are very durable. For the price of this product, the durability and resiliency of the pads is excellent. I've been using them for 6 months now and not a single pad has malfunctioned.

GOOD----The sticks that come with the package are durable and allow for more fluid play with the drum pads. They are made of plastic and weigh about the same as the standard wooden sticks. These sticks also have rubberized head which allow the player to feel a bounce off of the pad. For me, this allows me to transition from one pad to another more effectively than with wooden sticks. These sticks also have a rubber grip around where you would normally grip a drum stick. This helps prevent the stick from leaving your hand.

OWNER SUGGESTION----Please watch this video this video will teach you how to fully take advantage of your portable drum kit. This enables you to use them with your existing Rock Band Drum Kit.

Another note: The pads connect to a central rectangular panel which has the standard console buttons on it. This is where you plug each individual pad, kick pedal, and has the USB plug that plugs into your console. The only problems I've encountered are with voice communication. There is an outlet where you can plug in a microphone and I frequently run into problems with communicating with other players. Maybe it was my headset, but it works fine with my regular controller.

In sum, this is an excellent product and for its price, it is very much worth buying for its ease and quality of use to its durability.

We bought these for our son to play on his uncle's Xbox Rock Band game (we already own the Wii set with the full size drums). Our thought was that they would sit on the Wii drums, but they won't they will slide off. When we set them on a wooden bench to play, they work perfectly but the yellow one slides for my son (I guess the way he hits it). They do come with a thin rubber ring around the bottom edge to prevent moving, but I wish they had come with maybe a full non skid bottom to keep them in place better. Still, they work great and were totally worth it for an easy to use set of drums if you need an affordable Rock Band setup!!

Honest reviews on Xbox 360 Rock Band Portable Drum Kit

The pads of this kit are very good. They register strikes perfectly. I bought them to use in a DIY kit instead of wiring up peizos and buying a midi converter, and I am very pleased so far.

Many people buy these to replace a bad/broken kit. Just apply some velcro to the back of these pads and stick them right onto your existing bad kit, and go to town.

They would be alright for schlepping your gear to a friends house or for travel, but I would not want to try and position them to play as sold.

The pedal is pretty craptastic, but will do in a pinch. The sticks are terrible. The weight is slightly off, and they will come apart or break under moderate stress. All of these problems probably result from them being 2 piece sticks, which is a bad idea to begin with.

The tips are great, though. Buy a pair of sticks that you like, with narrow tips, and stick the rubber tips from these onto them. They are still a little louder than the plastic ones, but feel good, won't fall apart and the rubber gives nice action on these pads.

These drums are actually a lot better than you would think, especially for the price. I had already been through 2 Rock Band replacement sets before I decided to try these out. After cracking the pads yet again on my third set from some intense drumming, I gave these a try. Like some other reviewers have pointed out, this set works best if you simply place the pads on top of your older RB set using velcro or some other adhesive as these have no frame. Also, you can decide to use your old Rock Band pedal with this set or the one that comes with it, whichever you prefer (I opted to use my existing steel-plate reinforced RB pedal and ditch this weird looking one).

I've had these pads for about a year now and they continue to work flawlessly, despite me beating them to death mercilessly. The drum sticks included only lasted a few hours for me before they snapped in half, so you may want to consider using something more durable in that regard.

Prior to these pads, I was never able to get 100% on any drum song (no matter the difficulty) b/c of mishits on my old set. Now I get them quite often. These pads are incredible.

Customer review from the Amazon Vine Program This makes my 5TH set of gaming headphones. Well 6 if you count a 25 year old Radio Shack pair..... After I retired, I became an old guy who spends sometimes 12-18 hours a day gaming. Why so much? I became disabled and it takes my mind of pain to some degree. I also find all that just a GREAT excuse to "play". How do these stack up to all my other headsets?

Well, for the most part I use my ASTRO Gaming A40 set. Now while it is "wired" it does have wires. Confused? Well so was I at first. To THIS headset. I have sets from the cheap & crappy to the best. This set falls right square in the middle. The ear cups are average in their comfort (to MY head anyway), the sound is average. I find the 3D effect just that. An EFFECT. Kind of cheesy to me after having HONEST surround sound for gaming....I hear no honest directional capability when listening for WHERE an enemy is while sneaking up on me. What I do hear is that it makes the sound (whatever it may be) just a bit more able to notice and at least is sort of an "alert" to pay more attention. But then, by the time it got my attention, I am dead so not much use unless you are into suicide :-)

The GOOD for me are:

1-Connects to any & all gaming platforms you may use. I have the PS3, PS Vita, XBOX and a gaming computer plus 2 laptops. You can get this to work on it all. This is a HUGE advantage.

2-Separate control for game and microphone.

3-ALL needed cables and connectors are INCLUDED. No running to some store to make it work!

4-Mic is removable

The BAD for me:

1-Individual setups and be a bit confusing UNTIL you get familiar when switching between platforms

2-14 feet of wire is nice, but for my very LARGE Big screen LCD, I NEED 18-22 feet (But that may not be the norm for most folks?)

3-Cost is a little high for AVERAGE sound, but then again you DO get all the needed wires & connections.

Who should buy this? Someone who needs one single headset for EVERYTHING you game on. Sometimes you just don't need the very best sounding, the absolute most comfy headset, or a completely different headset for EACH platform you game on. This may just be average in ALL areas, but this one single item will let you play on EVERYTHING and that is actually pretty huge when you think about it. You can't expect miracles, but you won't have to go buy 3 different headsets either!

Let me start by saying Ive never used any other headset besides the stock xbox 360 one.

I've been using this for a few weeks now and I must say, I'm not disappointed! It was easy to set up and sounds great. The 3D sound amplifies the effects (which is great for war games like COD and BF)

Pros.

Price!! No better headset for the price out there.

Sturdy

Separate volume controls for game sound and mic

Comfortable (and I wear a 7 5/8 hat)

Can be used for multi platforms

Block out most sound (some might see this as a con)

Cons.

Cord length

If your looking for a great gaming headset and don't want to spend $100, look no further!! I would recommend these to anyone

Like the title says this head set is Simply Amazing!!!

I read almost all the reviews for this head set and the thing I never really figured out was if the sound quality was similar to the Turtle Beach headsets or not. When I say this I mean that if I were to be able to tell if someone was walking up from my backside on my left. The answer is YES! I was playing MW3 and I could tell there was grenades being thrown and detonating to my right and then heard someone coming from to my left, and not just to my left but from the front left of me. So if you were hesitant to buy this because you didn't know if the sound quality is as good as Turtle Beachs, then go a head and buy it.

The 3-D effect is just amazing, at first I played MW3 with it off to test out the sound quality, I could easily predict where everyone was by their footsteps, but when I turned on the 3-d effect I could feel the grenade explode near me, I could hear the fire crackling and the flies buzzing. When turning on 3D i was afraid if I would be able to hear my teammates clearly because the game was so loud, but that wasn't a problem at all I could hear them clearly and the same goes for them as they could hear me clearly as well.

My problems are that the wire might be a little too short, if you have a home theater then you need will need to buy an extension chord. I sit 10 ft from my TV and xbox and the chord is hanging off the ground for a good twothree inches, but I don't really mind that...

Compared to the TBs X12s they, US ARMY headset, is most definetly heavier but you know what that just tells me this head set is sturdier... If you are wondering whether to buy this head set or the X12s then let me tell you, I wouldn't trade this headset in for an x12, because one the 3-d is so amazing, its universial, and the the drivers 1 40mm and 2 15mm drivers in each ear for the US army headset vs the X12s' 50 mm.

This is an easier decision for me.

So the only con for me is really the chord's size.

Honest reviews on U.S. Army Universal Gaming Headset With 3D Effect for PS3/XBOX/PC

Customer review from the Amazon Vine Program I got this headset just in time for Diablo 3... and have enjoyed it thoroughly. I just plug the green (earphones) and red (mic) jacks into the corresponding ports on the front of my computer, and I'm good to go.

SOUND QUALITY: these headphones sound great. My old headphones, Sennheiser HD 202 Dynamic Headphones (Old Version), worked great and had good quality, but I think these headphones are actually pump out audio that's just a little bit fuller.

NOISE REDUCTION: these actually don't work as well as my old headphones -I think because of the way my ears fit into the headset, I can still hear external sounds (like roommate watching TV) a little bit. Noise reduction isn't one of the advertised features on the listing page, so I guess this is no surprise.

MICROPHONE: my buddies online have no complaints re: my voice quality over the mic. I've used this for PC gaming chat and for Google Voice. Works fine. Mute switch is pretty standard.

BUILD QUALITY / AESTHETICS: bulky, solid, dorky-but-cool. These are big, heavy headphones and really do look/feel like something you'd be wearing in an old helicopter cockpit. The flexible mic is nice, and the headset has plenty of cable & head size adjustability to fit almost anyone and work with any room / computer / console setup.

OVERALL: I'd give these five stars, but it's sort of annoying that a headset this solid & bulky doesn't completely seal out external noises. My $20 pair of years-old Sennheiser headphones is superior to these in that regard... but aside from this rather minor annoyance (usually gamers aren't sitting in really noisy environments anyway), this is a great headset for console or PC gaming. I'd say better for PC, as many consoles now have wireless controllers / headsets that are more functional given the nature of console gaming.

I got this for my son for Christmas 2012 and it has already stopped working. He really liked it until it stopped.

Everything works except he cannot talk to anyone. Have tried all settings/dials to no avail.

Emails 3 times. Got a response to first email wanting the order confirmation. Sent it ( 2 email) . Resent for 3 email ( over a week later).

Called the 1-888 number for some assistance, the person there says there is no phone customer support. Send an email. I said I did. He said to send one again. When I asked if I had to send emails for the next 20 years he said that they only offer email support so yes.

What a company.

Shroomboom is a life element character whose main weapon is using his slingshot to shoot mushrooms at his enemies and can also create a shield of mushrooms in a circle around him to protect him if lots of bad guys are all around. Another useful weapon is his ability to slingshot parachute looking mushrooms into the air that float down and attack his enemies from above. His attacks are slow as is he at moving around, but he's a very silly & cute character! Does not work on the original Skylanders Spyro's Adventures game, only works on the Skylanders Giants game. WORKS ON ALL SYSTEMS: Nintendo 3DS, Wii, Xbox 360, & Playstation 3.

HIS BACKGROUND STORY: Shroomboom was most unfortunate to have been born in a pizza topping garden belonging to Kaos. Growing up among his fellow fungi, he knew it was only a matter of time before a late night craving would bring about their demise. So Shroomboom took a twig and a strand of spider web and made a slingshot. One by one, he launched all of his friends over the garden fence before flinging himself over to join them. Then he guided them all to the edge of the island and leapt to freedom, using his mushroom cap to catch a friendly breeze. Now as a member of the Skylanders, Shroomboom continues to perform courageous deeds... but he can be hard to find on pizza night.

Let's make this clear from the outset: this is not a brand-new game, but rather the "director's cut" of the title that released a few months back. Those expecting a whole new "Madden" will be disappointed, but look a little deeper and there's much to discover.

First, the game looks better and runs smoother; there's more detail everywhere, from raucous crowds to sideline personnel, but it doesn't scream "next-gen" like some other titles. There's still work to be done going forward, but it's not as if "Madden 25" looks ugly -far from it.

While the graphics might not dazzle, the immediately-noticeable improvement to the game's animations take gameplay up a notch. The war in the trenches that decide football games -intricate battles between defensive and offensive linemen -are far more dynamic and realistic. No longer do the lines simply ram into each other like buzzing electric football players of yore; they move with purpose, and they're a bit smarter to boot. Combine that with a more realistic running game, and one finds a new level of depth and challenge -along with the satisfaction that come with success.

The end result is a more thoughtful and rewarding on-field experience, where play-calling and execution involves much more than snapping the ball and mashing the "sprint" button.

Unlike the last time "Madden" moved forward from one generation to the next, nothing's been left behind; all the modes you'd expect are there, from the multi-season Connected Careers mode to the card-collecting Ultimate Team -if you're migrating from the Xbox 360 to the Xbox One, all your cards will come with you; a godsend for those that have dumped plenty of hard-earned cash into the fantasy-team extravaganza already.

It's a very solid package, filled chock-full of content, and it's easily the definitive version of "Madden 25"; a game that creeps ever closer to becoming a true-to-life simulation of the NFL.

First thing I need to say it is a definite upgrade over the last gen version. Graphics, gameplay, and details have all been greatly improved. The player models are much more high res and skin actually looks real instead of plastic. Faces look much more real and player helmets look amazing.

The gameplay, although mostly the same does improve in more than a few areas. Momentum now plays a much larger part in how you run and cut on the field. No longer can you hold down the sprint button and expect to do a 90 degree cut on the field. The interactions between the offense and defensive lines have improved with better awareness and pocket formations.

Details in the stadium have been revamped mostly in the form of NPCS. The crowd is now fully 3D as well as everyone on the sidelines. Not only That they actually move and move with the action on the field. The UI has also had a minor facelift in the looks department.

Overall I think the the Ignite Engine and Madden 25 are both solid foundations for games to come. This is a largely better game than Madden 06 in its time. This game is fun to play, contains all the same game modes that previous gen had and if you play MUT you can transfer over content. I would say there is enough here for Madden fans to warrant a next gen purchase.

The graphics and gameplay are almost IDENTICAL as the 360 version. The only times you notice that you are playing next-gen are in the cut scenes or when when players are in the huddle and you can see the reflections on their helmets. You also see a slight improvement in the detail of the grass on the field. This was almost an exact port from the 360 version, so if you own it, wait until next year when EA will build a true next-gen experience. Everything that was advertised is completely overrated, the living sidelines aren't noticeable (other than there being slightly more people), the stadiums look about the same and any physics tweaks aren't noticeable unless you truly dig for them. If you are looking for a game that you can use to show your friends how awesome the Xbox One is, this isn't it.

Honest reviews on Madden NFL 25 - Xbox One

Madden NFL 25 on Xbox One is an excellent start to this generation of football games. The graphics, presentation, and gameplay are all noticeably improved and the package is undeniably a step-up from current generation (X360, PS3) football.

Madden 25 on X360 and PS3 plays a pretty good (but not perfect) game of football. Madden 25 on X1 simply improves on the current-gen game in all aspects, which I'll quickly list here:

-Graphics. Madden on Xbox One is a gorgeous game. If you've been following the pre-release hype, you've probably heard (and maybe laughed) about EA mentioning the "blades of grass," but damn it if the grass isn't beautiful in this game, especially around center field logos. Realistic lighting, higher resolution players, coaches, equipment, and gorgeous stadiums highlight a really fantastic looking game. You definitely have to play it on a big 1080p TV to appreciate how good the game looks, since the ESPN MNF clips certainly didn't do Madden next-gen any visual justice.

-Gameplay. The big innovations here are "war in the trenches," "contextual awareness," and other miscellaneous improvements, most notably side line catches, which it seems like EA finally got right. War in the Trenches is a fantastic upgrade that people have been asking for for years and EA has done an excellent job with this feature, as the first time you see a DE bust straight through a double team is a sight to behold. Contextual Awareness is also a great feature, as it helps your RB's not run straight into their linemen and WR's and DB's make smarter plays on balls in the air. It doesn't always work, and there's some debate about how much user control should be taken away for the sake of "realism," (running, for example, is much harder on next-gen than current-gen, although this is undeniably a good thing) but I'm really digging the way next-gen Madden plays. Dropped the game speed to slow and been having a blast for two straight days.

-Presentation. There are a lot of cool new camera angles, the commentary is *slightly* better, highlights are back on Xbox One, and the crowd looks great. There are some issues here, however, as the commentary is still often inaccurate, which shatters immersion, and the Living Worlds feature hasn't lived up to the hype. I feel like the lack of women in the stadium (you get 40-60,000 men and men only) might be a bug because it seems like such a bizarre oversight. The sidelines are much improved, but still lacking, and I'd like the crowd--whether all men, all women, or both--to be more invested in the game, as it seems like their heads do not track the action and their reactions to big plays are often delayed or non-existent. Although the "Living Worlds" feature is underwhelming, I'm still happy to give Madden 25 a 5/5 on Xbox One based on the amount of fun I've had w/ the game the past 24 hours.

Overall though, this is a great looking, great playing game of football, and I haven't even begun to fool with sliders, dive into a Connected Franchise, or even figure out Coach Glass, which is Madden's unique and dynamic companion app for tablet devices using Xbox SmartGlass. There's a lot to play and do here in Madden 25 on Xbox One, which is remarkable when you think about what a stripped down, empty game Madden 06 was, which was the first Madden game on Xbox 360 and PS3. The potential for this generation is limitless at this point, and if you love football or are just looking to get the most out of your new Xbox One, then you'd be silly to pass on Madden this year.

I played a decent amount of Madden 25 on Xbox 360 and enjoyed the overall experience. Madden 25 on Xbox One is a great start on next-gen consoles and is an improvement on the 360 version.

The line play is the biggest difference in my opinion. Running through holes created by your offensive lineman is an enjoyable experience as you can see them actually work hard. Previously, offensive/defensive lineman lacked tenacity and technique. Go into the instant replay mode on next-gen Madden and just watch the interaction...it is the real deal.

I still feel interceptions need to happen more often. There are way too many dropped interceptions by the secondary in the game. However, I have not messed around with the sliders to tweak that part of the gameplay.

Another great addition is seamless online play. I think this might have to do with a combination of better servers and 60 FPS. I have already played 10+ online games without any lag. I didn't have too many issues with the 360 version. However, there was always slight lag that would make it very difficult to kick full strength or make a tackle in the open field. This is now fixed and creates a great experience online.

I purchased Madden 06 on Xbox 360 eight years ago and it was a disaster. I am really excited to see where this series goes because it is off to such a great start.

Customer Ratings: 3.5 stars

The idea is great, the product looks good and is convenient (when it works). After owning this for about a month and a half, the ps3 ports stopped working. The controllers were no longer being charged and the lights stopped working. The xbox ports are still functional however, (as of now, 3 months in). At this point it's a charger for my xbox controllers and a display stand for the ps3 controllers. I contacted the manufacturer but they have yet to get back to me.

Update:

The day after I wrote this review the company contacted me regarding the product. They were very professional, courteous and promptly replied to my emails. They shipped out a new product to me within a few days. This one is working as it should at me moment. I give this product 5 stars because of its functionality and the company provided a level of customer service that seemed to be lost in today's market. I would definitely purchase other products from them.

I purchased the Konnet Power Pyramid Charger from Amazon and received the delivery in the time frame promised. I needed a charger and an organizer and the item was perfect. It worked without issue until about a week ago. One of the PS3 charge slots simply stopped working and the LED light is inoperable. There was no indication that a problem even existed. It just simply won't charge. I checked to see if I could return it for a fully operational replacement however the return window closed just the day before. So I have three working charge ports, which will have to suffice, but I am really disappointed as I LIKED this product a lot and had recommended it to several friends who also purchased the pyramid charger. I expected better durability especially considering the cost. But as careful as I was inserting the controllers, I am stuck with a now less than desirable product. After all, the charge lights are cool and create a great ambiance, but without one working, it has lost a bit of that something special. I am reluctant to recommend or not recommend this product. On one hand, a cool product with serious functionality potential. On the other hand, a pricey toy that only lasted 10 weeks with two grown ups being very careful with its use. I couldn't imagine what a house full of kids might do to this. If you do buy this item, I hope you have better luck. It is almost a great product but I feel just a bit cheated because it WAS so cool for a while.

Update: I contacted Konnet via e-mail about a warranty replacement for this item. They were very courteous and accommodating. There were some minor hoops to jump through in order to satisfy their requirements to receive a replacement but nothing too frustrating. My initial contact with them was on 11 Feb 10 and I received to replacement item on 06 Mar 10. The entire ordeal consisted of 11 e-mails back and forth, re-packaging the item and mailing it at my expense (about $5 USPS), and waiting a couple of weeks for the replacement as it was shipped via "Air Mail" from Hong Kong. It would have been nice if the entire process was more streamlined but I give Konnet credit, they did exactly what they said they would do. I commend them for that. As a side note....I used the original PS3 charging method to maintain a charge for those two controllers. As for my XBox 360 controllers, I was prepared to simply use the "AA" battery compartment until I got the charging unit back but as it turns out, I was able to use them, frequently mind you, without ever having to charge them the entire time my Konnet Power Pyramid was in transit. One controller eventually lost charge but the second controller continued to hold a charge until the replacement charging device was received. I thought that was pretty cool. I use my XBox 360 about 4 times as much as my PS3. I have increased my star rating 1 star due to Konnet's customer service response.

this controller dock looks good, but is definitely overpriced. i purchased mine in "used like new" condition from amazon warehouse deals at a nice discount price and still think that was overpriced. it sure has style though...

with the charging cables gone from sight and the 4 controllers all in 1 storage space, the tv area looks much cleaner.

The Pyramid Looks Great and Kept all my controllers in one place but I have had to return it twice. The PS3 Slots break with in 3-6 months. It works Great for the X-Box 360 controllers and I Returned it with zero hassle to the Company and they did even want the old Pyramid back which tells me they know this model is defective. I give it two stars because the X-Box Part works very well and it cost about what I would have Paid for just a X-Box Charger. Don't waste your $$$$$

This game has 13 tracks. You start the game with 3 tracks which are easy level, but after you beat those 3, then the others become selectable.

There are also 13 boats which become selectable after beating each track. Although 4 of those 13 boats are very difficult to obtain on one player mode. They are however easy to obtain on two player mode.

I don't know much about gaming, but this is a great game. Graphics, sounds, controls. The courses start out easy, and then gradually get harder. However, I think I like the "Bonus Tracks" better than the Hard ones. The hard ones are hard! It's great for adults and kids. My 6 year old son has a great time and can, sometimes, beat me.

Either way, it's fun for both of us!

This game gets my vote as the best non-SEGA arcade racing game to ever make a home conversion. What do you have? A PERFECT recreation of an awesome arcade game, complete with Soul Calibur quality graphics, sweet controls, crystal clear sound, and awesome arcade gameplay. Of course the best thing about this game is that you won't have to insert any quarters time and again in order to unlock all the awesome hidden vehicles and tracks. It DOES get hard later on, but isn't that what an arcade game is supposed to do?

Perhaps the only real problem with this game is that the interface needed a little more work. If this game let you restart a track from the pause menu instead of backing all the way out to the main menu, it would have been perfect. As it is, it's an awesome, awesome arcade conversion that arcade racing fans should definitely not miss.

I've played this for over a week now, so I'm revising my earlier review. I still say there are some definite improvements.

The CPU can actually play offense now! I was getting quite bored with the complete inability of the CPU to run, and minimal ability to pass. It was fun to rack up the stats, but winning 84-0 even in Heisman mode got old. The CPU receivers can actually catch the ball, and the quarterback actually avoids sacks and scrambles for positive yards on blitzes and draws. In All-American and Heisman difficulty levels, the defense AI manages to catch on to your play calling pattern a lot better than before, so you're can't successfully run the same play over and over again as easily as before. There is some benefit though, you can REALLY exploit an over eager defense with the right play action, screen pass (which actually works for positive yards now), or draw plays. It works to your disadvantage on defense though, because if you are not creative and run the same defense on the same formations over and over again, the CPU will burn you. They have also added some new defensive QB Spy plays (e.g. Nickle DE and Nickle OLB Double Spy plays) which work very well against the option.

The best new features by far are the impact players, and "in the zone" modes. Both player and CPU impact players when "in the zone" make some spectacular plays, and fun post play celebrations. Thankfully, the refs are not as trigger happy with the unsportsmanlike conduct flag. The timing of the players going "in the zone" is quite good. It happens at key moments in the game on key plays. Unfortunately, and I may discover this not to be true later, is that you can't seem to develop an impact player during the course of a season. They are locked in and set for the entire season. If you end up with a linebacker with 60 tackles, a dozen sacks, and a half dozen forced fumbles and interceptions by mid-season, I should think that he is an impact player by any definition.

The Dynasty mode is about the same as 2005, but one REALLY nice feature is season long recruiting. You are shown the potential weaknesses in positions where you would lose seniors, so you are given 12 scholarship bids you can put out and monitor recruit interest and allocate 0-100% of points weekly amongst recruits throughout the year. They have also added academics as a pitch. Unfortunately, (and maybe I just haven't figured out how yet), you cannot choose the recruiting pitch criteria nor choose to scout. The AI doesn't do the best job, because let's say you figure the pitch to use is Program Prestige, the CPU continues to pitch other things. The only time you can choose the pitch is during in campus visits. There is a menu option to select when you can pitch, but it's always set to campus visits, and I can't change it even if I disable the recruiting AI assistance. You also get a lot more 5 and 4 star duds with "poor" to "average" potential which was very rare in 2005. Sadly, you are locked in with 12 recruits at the beginning of the season, so you can't replace any choice, and all you can do is change the priority percentage to 0 and hope he withdraws from contention. You cannot target kickers or punters during the season. Another nice new feature is that you can auto-name the select or complete rosters, so no more of the Position + Jersey Number schemes for the first few seasons. However, in Race for the Heisman mode, you have to do that before you start the campaign, because you absolutely cannot edit the rosters in his mode.

The most spectacular feature which makes this game far superior to 2005 is the Heisman Race mode. You select a player position, and run drills for college scouts. Depending on how well you perform, you get scholarship offers from various schools which you can choose to accept, or go in as a walk-on to any school you select. It would seem the ability scores and the number and quality of offers are directly correlated to how well you do in the drill. My first run through with an RB, I only scored 3 touchdowns in 10 tries, and got offers from three schools ranging in rank from #51 to #58 in addition to walk-on. I ran through it again, scored 7/10 times, and this time I got some offers from top-25 teams. This also sets the ability scores which cannot be modified. The gameplay, as I mentioned, is spectacular, and the games when teams are close in level, are exceptionally close. There are some caveats to this mode. It might seem that you have no control over rosters and recruiting in this mode. You also have no access to the pennant collection, and cannot edit rosters (names, equipment, etc.), and can only set the depth chart during the game, and it does not carry over to the next game. You can play pennants during the game, but to cash in points and enter codes, you have to exit Heisman and go to Dynasty mode. Having said that, I think Pennants are irrelevant because the gameplay (especially passing) is much improved. Rushing has become a lot harder which is a good thing, especially because I-Form Normal counter play is not a guaranteed touchdown with 4-3 man coverage & wide receiver motion like it used to be.

There are some other odds & ends.

The Good:

You can switch the controller to either team's side during the game. This is really fun if you choose to play some of the marquee games and play either offense or defense on both sides. I don't recall this ability in 2005. It will disable pennants if one of the teams is user controlled.

You can't edit player skills in Race for Heisman mode, so you can't create a super player. The skills are set during tryout.

There is less discrepency in the coaches/media rankings. In 2005, if a team started too far down, at one point it would be ranked #2 in the media poll, but #25 in the coaches poll.

The Bad:

You can't redshirt your Heisman hopeful. If you do well enough in the tryout, you may end up on a top team with a 99 skill senior in your position, and it seems insane that a freshman would get the start.

Players and refs still walk through each other in the post play animations.

It is sometimes raining with clear blue skies, and sometimes there is sunshine during night games! :)

The OL gets WAY too many pancakes. After my first season, my center had 288 pancakes! Even mediocre OL players pancake all but impact D-Linemen on 20-50% of the plays. The CPU doesn't get that benefit.

You can edit *every* skill value when you create a prospect up to the 99 maximum. In 2005, the upper bounds were limited by player position and size. Now every created prospect can be a super Paul Hornung. It would have been nice to create an "athelate" prospect with some limits, but this one goes too far.

On the Xbox, they switch the select player button from X to B, so it takes some getting used to. The juke function has moved from the right trigger to the right paddle, so it is extremely difficult to pull combination spin, hurdle, juke moves without your right thumb fumbling and flailing all over the place.

In the weekly schedules, when you looked at the game info, it would show the teams' current ranking whether they were in the top 25 or not, but now, you only see that right before the game starts, or right after it ends. There is also no longer an overall grade for a team. You just have offense, defense, and special team grades.

The Ugly:

Who in the blazes picked the menu colors? Dark navy text on a black background? That is what you get for your team in Race or Dynasty mode. The contrast is so poor, it actually hurt my eyes. I can't believe the Beta testers did not riot over this. They also had some nice red-yellow-green shading for NCAA interest level, coach job security, etc., but they've gone to solid colors now. There is no longer a grading system for coach job security.

All the player pictures in roster and recruiting screens look like county sherrif mug shots. This is a really major step down from the last version. Also, the refs have five o'clock shadows and look like they came to the game all hung over after throwing an all night drunk.

During late afternoon games, the shadow coverd parts of the field are pitch black! If your team is wearing light uniforms,

you can barely see them, and if the other team is wearing dark uniforms, you absolutely cannot see them until they tackle you or intercept your pass.

They changed the kick meter to Madden style, and I personally do not like it one bit. However, that is entirely subjective.

All in all, this game is an absolute "must buy" if only for the Heisman mode. I will be wasting a signficant number of hours of my life on this game!

Well, I picked it up yesterday (7/11/05) and I can say, the passing has been much improved. My star catchers are more likely to catch the ball than drop it. There are still dropped passes, but it's more realistic now and not as frustrating. In fact, when my big star does miss a catch, it's usually because I didn't throw it well or I'm throwing into double or triple coverage. However, I have seen him make the catch when he's "in the zone", a new feature that is pretty cool. Basically, your star player(s) will eventually get into a groove, which means they are more apt to make the big play when you control them. If they do, the game will zoom into slo-motion video to show the big play they made and then zooms back out as the play continues.

The ability to easily scramble your QB is great. No longer do you have to "shut off" the passing icons. On the Xbox, hitting the A button turns off the icons, makes your QB tuck the ball and sprint. As long as you haven't crossed the LOS, you can let go and you are immediately back into the passing mode. Very simple change that makes scrambling a lot easier and less frustrating.

Juking is all done with the right analog stick, as is swimming on defense. Also, the right analog stick acts as the "Big Hit" control, just like in Madden and unlike last years NCAA game. Still no play-maker-style controls, though.

Presentation is not bad, but it's still EA-ish and not as spectacular as the ESPN games were (like ESPN NFL 2k5 and MLB 2k5). Hopefully, next year they can revamp all that, especially on the new consoles. The commentary is new, but it repeats itself quickly, but I'm pretty engrossed in the game at hand, so it's not that annoying. Still, it's nice that Nessler, Herbstreit and Corso recorded new commentary that is still fun to listen to.

The only other minor quibble I have with this game is the collision detection. I've seen my players walk through refs or other players as they get up after a play. It looks pretty weird and I wish they'd fix this. This was present in the 2005 version as well. Still, it's not a show stopper, but it makes the game feel as if it could be a lot more polished than it is.

I've only played a few games, including the Run For the Heisman mode, which is pretty cool as you play as a recruit for up to 4 years in persuit of the trophy. You name your player and then have your choice of how you want your stud player to be: pocket QB, scrambling QB, running back, wide receiver, defense. Which choice you choose then puts you into a "mini-game" to rack up as many points as possible to impress the college scouts. Your stats will be based on how well you perform. This will also give you a list of the top 3 schools that want to recruit you. However, you don't have to go there and can choose to walk-on any campus you wish. At that point, you go to your dorm room and your off! You don't have much control over the off-the-field activities in this mode, though. Still, this mode is a really fun mode to play in as you play the character you created and watch him attempt to garner the Heisman Trophy.

I haven't played dynasty yet, as I'm still playing exhibition games in order to get a handle on the game. You can do recruiting year round, and from what I've seen so far, this year's edition is definitely a big improvement over the previous edition.

I didn't get a chance to play online games yet. I did log on, and the interface for Xbox Live is revamped and looks pretty good. Only about 12 people were on-board, but none were quite ready to challenge me (nor was I ready to be challenged yet).

Overall, this is definitely one to get if you love college football. The graphics were tweaked, but they are still nothing to really gush about. They did tone down the "steroid" look so that the players look more like college players. But overall, the graphics tweaks are not what make this the must-buy college game. It's the actual gameplay tweaks/revamps that were done that have made this one of the best NCAA football games yet.

Best Deals for NCAA Football 2006 - Xbox

Like the last game I reviewed, Need for Speed: Underground 2, I really didn't want to purchase this game, but another family member (my borther this time) brought it home anyway. At first, I was distracted with a rental of mine: Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas. But after getting frustrated with the final mission (actually, I wasn't frustrated, but I was too lazy to go through the entire level to get to the point where I failed), I decided to pop in NCAA 2006 and see what it was like.

When I first entered the game, I decided to try out the new flagship mode of the game, Race for the Heisman Mode. In the beginning, you are at a college scouting session picking which position you will play (they're all specialty positions, leaving out the underappreciated O-Line). When you pick your position, you will enter immediately into the spring drill which best suits your position (Oklahomas, Pass Skeleton, etc.). When you are done with your drill, you are then immediately given the choice of three schools (their strength depending on your success rating at your drill) or you can choose to walk-on to any school you like.

Once you are in you dorm room, you have the option of doing several things, one being playing your games (or simming them). Other things you can do is look at your achievements and awards over the years, look at fan mail (I never knew that college football phenoms only got one letter every several weeks talking about their career choices... interesting), and look at a picture at an really ugly-looking girl on your computer (when you are a freshman, at least).

When you play a game in RFTH mode, I expected it to be as I just playing as myself throughout the game and resting when on defense. But what I got was pretty much a game that I could've played with the Quick Start option. I control any player on field on my team, I control offense and defense, I control playcalling, etc. This is extremely dissapointing in my mind. Once again, this is supposed to be about me controlling my player and bringing him to glory . Controlling the entire team destroys the illusion that I am slaving to bring my custom player to glory.

A few more gripes about RFTH mode is that no matter what team you play for, you will always start off the bat, no matter who you are replacing. Once again, this is very unrealistic. Also, about controlling your personal player, you do not control his actions off the field. I would've liked to see at the very least an answer based thing which allows us to shape the character of our player. I have only gone to my sophomore year (with no Heisman trophies), but I beginning to feel that RFTH mode is just a worthless novelty mode brought in to garner in the feel of the game. Hopefully, this mode will be improved upon in 2007.

Onto the actual gameplay, it seems to be more "Offense-friendly" than seasons past. Recievers and halfbacks drop fewer passes than last year (thankful for this), the kicking meter is slower on All-American than last year, and it is much easier to bust big gains on the ground with a few well-placed jukes. Another thing that may contribute to this is the fact that the defensive controls have been unfairly altered from last year (player change and sprint on defense have been switched, which results in confusion and sometimes frustration). There is this new feature in the game called Impact Player and at random times, Impact players will be "In The Zone". Besides this, no other new features in the gameplay.

For it's flagship Dynasty mode, It is pretty much the same Dynasty mode as last year with a tune-up to make it better for the current year. Several things new to the mode include an Athlon Sports preview of the upcoming season (nothing new inside, though), pipeline states to have an easier time recruiting (you need at least 5 players on your team in a state to have it considered as a "pipeline" state), and a key new feature called In-Season recruiting, which allows you to recruit hot prospects in-season, as the title suggests.

The graphics have been relatively unchanged from last year, except for the fact that the heads have been pretty much "inflated" to a weird level. The collision detection bugs after the play seem to be gone, as I have seen none as of yet.

The Create-A-School, player, sign, etc. options remain unchanged from last year.

At the beginning of the game, NCAA takes a page from ESPN NFL 2K5 and has 3D renditions of Brad Nessler, Lee Corso, and Kirk Herbstreit. Unfortunately, these previews get repetitive really quick. Here's the basic skeleton of these intros: Brad introduces the broadcasting game, he adresses the weather, the home team comes out, the away team comes out, Brad makes his prediction, Kirk makes his prediction and his key player to watch for, Lee makes his prediction with some helmet or mascot head of the team he is favoring. I feel ashamed the way that they changed Lee from a person who made a decision based on the analysis of the game to a person who just puts on something and says "I'm favoring Team A!" If it was a way to try and make the situation of broadcasting the game looser and more relaxed, then it failed.

For the music, I am disappointed with this as well. From EA's view, it seems that all college football fans want to listen to is Punk Rock with a splash of Ska and Old-School Rap (One song each). As for the bands they chose, they have a nice blend of new and old tunes for you to listen to (the better songs are from De La Soul, The Pixies, and The Clash). And if you get sick of the EA Trax, here's a tip to all of the unknowing reviewers out there: THEY DO HAVE MARCHING BANDS IN THE GAME! If you want bands on the main menu, go to MY NCAA, Audio, and then change menu music from EA Trax to Bands. Personally, I like the fact that EA put new music in the game instead of listening to the bands which were fun in the beginning but got irritating later on in the gaming experience. The only thing I don't like is that it does not support custom soundtracks (Bummer. I would've liked a mix of EA Trax, my music burned onto the XBox, and marching bands).

In final, this is game that is pretty much a must own for any colege football fan out there. It simply is if you liked NCAA 2005, you will be very pleased with the new rendition of NCAA.

Honest reviews on NCAA Football 2006 - Xbox

Bought it last night at midnight and while I only played for just over an hour...I was very impressed. The graphics have seen a huge improvement and the added "Race for the Heisman" feature adds a new dynamic. The EA developers are doing a great job evolving this game into something great on its own rather than an annual Madden tag-along. Improved controls make this game much more fun to play than last year and the gameplay...especially running the option, is much better. A must for college football fans, hardcore gamer not required (I'm certainly not one). My only complaint, and it's just me getting used to it is...it seems to take more skill now in the passing game, which frankly was too easy in previous versions. Running the ball is a treat, with new analog controls for directional juking I feel like I have better control when scrambling or using one of my backs. Hope this is helpful. Go Gators!

Here is in my opinion the best way to play this game on the Xbox.

WHAT'S RIGHT ABOUT THIS GAME

1. Set it to Dynasty. Heisman mode is kind of a waste -it's funner to control a coaches career.

2. Set it to Heisman difficulty level. DO NOT mess with the AI sliders.

3. Set it to EAsy Play. Your runingback will find the holes and your receivers have indicators to tell you which one is open. You will not always be successful, however. It isn't that EAsy.

4. Turn the unsportsman like conduct down to about 30% in the penalty section. You can still get nailed for it, but when you suspect your player is doing something stupid pause the game and unpause it -no penalty.

5. Use the Auto-Name function in the roster section. No more ROLB #54 -they will all have names now except for the really small schools like Maine Black Bears (example only -you may find differently). Brad Nessler will actually pronounce the names.

6. In the contoller section you can switch to the 2005 control layout. There's too much whining about the controls. If you want last year's, you can have it.

WHAT'S WRONG WITH THIS GAME

1. There's still too many long bombs.

2. It's too easy to block punts. All you have to do is take one of the men on the far right and scooch him over to the rest of the lineman, but yet not right next to them so he can get around the offensive line. Then since the defense won't jump offsides you can already have him running in place with your finger near the B button. When the ball is snapped hit that B button and nail that punter.

3. The soundtrack stinks. I mean really stinks. Go to the audio section and change the music to "bands".

That's about it.

There are probably two types of people out there interested in this game: people who've played one of the 18 Wheels series and people who haven't.

If you have played on of these games, skip down a bit.

If you haven't, depending on what sort of simulations you're in to, this game may give you hours of enjoyment or boredom.

The basic tack of the game is, as you'd expect, you get some money, an entry-level rig and a lack of any reputation. Your goal is to grab loads to haul and drive them across the US and to some extent Canada and Mexico. As you haul loads, you'll make more money for upgrades for your rig (or a whole new rig) and you'll gain a reputation. Your success and your reputation lead to your ability to hire on other drivers and expand your trucking empire.

To counteract your success, you'll have to deal with long (and in some cases boring) hauls, police (checking speed, general driving rules, etc), and to some extent, the competition of your fellow truckers. There's also traffic on the roads including other trucks. There used to be a bug in older versions that made traffic hazardous (cars would just randomly hit the brakes like they were trying to cause an accident) but that's gone and traffic will even yield to your turn signal. But, to compensate for this, the devs decided to throw in something else to cause you grief. If you so much as stop one inch beyond the line at a stop light, you'll be flagged as having run a red light (a fine worth up to $9000 in the game!). This and people driving in obvious violation of the law (well, at least in the states I've driven) where they're making right turns across one or more lanes of traffic (thus colliding with you and getting you in trouble with the law again) can mean you'll be dishing out a lot to pay violations. Of course, the silver lining is that you only really pay for violations if you pass within a certain distance of a parked cop car.

The graphics are passable but dated. The graphic engine won't show up on a video games award show any time soon. Cities will have some hints at their landmarks and the like but there is no real attempt to map out the city in anyway. The cities are just small hubs where you'll find services and companies to grab loads from. That said, it does what it needs to do and the rigs themselves are pretty detailed. There are several cameras you can use to check your rig out while driving plus a great top-down cam that's been in the games of the series for a while and for good reason...nothing beats using that to hitch and line up trailers. Even so, the camera can be limited (you can only zoom out so far) and with a long enough (double) trailer, you can't really see beyond about half way down the second trailer. You'll have to rely on mirrors and other camera angles to get that right.

The driving is okay but has the same limitations as any other driving game. Ideally, you'll want to use a wheel or joystick (or gamepad). I don't have any of those so I used the keyboard. The keyboard works but driving can be challenging at times given the lack of a way to "finesse" turns and the like. Even so, you'll largely just be more worried about getting from point A to point B. There are short cuts in places but you're largely constricted to a couple of set highways to get from city to city. Still, you've got to manage your speed (cops), your fuel (only so many gas stations), and your route (watch for those short cuts) so there are things to keep you busy even on a long haul.

Overall, the game can be fun but it's a very specific fun. I personally like business sims and love the idea of running and managing logistics and just trucking loads across America. If you're looking for a fast-paced game or a complicated economic sim, this is not the game for you. But, if you wanted to strap yourself into a rig and drive around the country hauling loads, this is the game for you. And, it also helps that the price is nice and low. This version essentially rolls up all the various updates and changes made throughout the 18 Wheels series so you're getting the best version of the simulation (with the business side as well as the rigs and some of the bug fixes).

Previous 18 Wheels Owners (Start here)

For those of you that have tried an 18 Wheels game before you should know the drill by now. The games are more of a minor evolution than a revolution as you go from game to game. At this point, though, in the series, you're getting all the enhancements that have come down the pike (the more complicated business sim, the fix for the traffic issue, the expanded map with all of North America, etc.). At the same time, if you got Haulin', you likely got most of this anyway.

So, if you haven't updated your original 18 Wheels (across america?) game, you should probably just grab this sucker (it's nice and cheap anyway) and get up to date.

If you got Haulin or are like me and got every version in the series so far, this isn't going to be pushing the envelope for you at all. Still, the map seems to be a bit different and I noticed at least one thing that was fixed (that traffic bug...where cars used to just hit the brakes all the time) and, as I mentioned, it's dirt cheap (at least right now @9.99), it might be worth the pick up just to get some of those minor enhancements. It's your money so you'll know the best approach.

All in all, I like the series despite it's issues. I, like a lot of other fans, keep holding out for that graphics upgrade and some more sophisticated aspects to the business part (and maybe an autopilot for those times when you really just don't want to do that cross-country run again). Maybe one day...

This is nothing more than an okay game, in my opinion. It is a decent game, but is missing some features. The graphics are very plain. They need liveliness. In newer games, there is more detail. That is exactly what this needs. There should be more trees, and more realistic grass and desert sand. I would like for there to be more cactus plants in the desert as well, as in real life. Or, at least more realistic sand, and flatter land. I really like the desert in 18 WOS Extreme Trucker, a newer game. They are very detailed, and look nothing like the old ones. I think that the vehicles in this game, including the AI vehicles, need a lot of improvement in apperance. The surfaces and textures on trucks in some of the old games are actually better! But there is a good selection of trucks included though. There are some invisible walls on the ramps to the gas stations, that should be removed because they can damage a person's truck. It is not right that you can be driving very well and all of a sudden crash into something you can't even see. Here are my pros and cons:

PROS

Map

Variety of environments

Number of cities, trucks

Weather (snow, rain, sunny)

CONS

Detail included (sides of roads are very plain, unexciting)

Police system (You can crash into up to one car next to a police officer and not get fined)

Truck sounds (Very limited, would have liked more, not very realistic)

Truck (Lack uniqueness, limited interiors, nothing special)

Truck handling (hard to make sharp turns)

Bugs (annoying)

Weather (in some parts there is always snow, in some places, never any snow, but not a huge problem)

Due to environment's lack of detail and plainess, long drives can get boring

Car colors, textures (cars look terrible compared to newer games, very unrealistic)

Cardboard buildings (unrealistic)

Now, I want to compare this game to older game:

If you want the most realistic trucking game from SCS Software, get German Truck Simulator or UK Truck Simulator, which are available on Amazon. This game is good for its time. But the newer games I just mentioned have much more detail in their graphics, and the skies are much better. The vehicles are better too, and the trucks have much more personality. Each has its own interior, and handles differently, with a different engine sound as well. There are only seven vehicle brands, and 21 trucks. The trucks are separated by class: A Class (Best), B Class (Medium), C Class (Worst), so you know exactly which quality to look at. All of the A Class trucks, for example, are much different from each other. The newer games that are supposed to be out soon, 18 WOS Extreme Trucker 2 and Euro Truck Simulator 2, will probably be even better. And, I do not think that this game is much different than Haulin', except for Mexico being added, and some other features that should have been in Haulin in the first place. So bascially, this game, 18 WOS American Long Haul, is okay, but needs improvement.

Best Deals for 18 Wheels of Steel : American Long Haul - PC

Valusoft/SCS has created a great series in 18 Wheels of Steel. They've constistantly kept the price ) and have made great products. The 18WoS franchise has been a great driving simulator and buisness sim as well as being pretty stable (not counting Convoy).

Unfortunately it seems like the 18WoS series is beginning to get stale and repetitive. The cities need to be lively! Going into cities which seem so familiar and seeing no one walking or people coming out of shops and office buildings just doesn't cut it anymore. The traffic signals even look the same. Turning lanes would be a nice addition because a accident is just waiting to happen, plus when you wait for a clear path making a left turn, you are constantly being honked at. Please, no more cardboard buildings.

In the latest release by Valusoft/SCS American Long Haul has the same graphics as Haulin as well as the same premise. You start off with a truck and haul different types of cargo through the United States, Canada and now Mexico (only a few cities). Mexico was added but it was previously in 18WoS: Pedal to the Medal only. The only thing different in 18WoS: ALH is that you can bid on cargo and their are some shortcuts. There are a few large truckstops but to me it's not a truckstop if you can't get out of your truck, fill up the tank, go to the bathroom, talk to other drivers, or relax in the resturant. You can also be your own boss and hire other drivers just like in Haulin. I think the minor additions to American Long Haul could of very well been a patch for Haulin.

When I saw this on the SCS website, I was looking forward to a new chapter in the 18WoS series however when I played the demo, it's exactly like Haulin. I wasn't expecting American Long Haul to be almost the same as Haulin. Very disappointing!

Sadly, the graphics are getting old and the game itself is beginning to get stale. When you travel the highways, there are barren areas and areas that you wish were barren. The same setup for the cities is again in American Long Haul. What this means is that the cities are devoid off people, the traffic lights are strangely the same in every city, the buildings and scenery are bland and look like pop up books or blocks of cardboard. The only pleasant scenery is the water (bodies of water). What is inexusable are the highways and streets throughout the United States, Mexico and Canada. The developers should of at least done their homework on how the cities are laid out as well as the routes to get to them. I was hoping for the actual suspension bridges that lead to New York City as well as others. What about the tunnels to go from Manhattan into New Jersey? The Deleware River Gap Bridge when you drive on Interstate 80 through New Jersey? I'm not just talking about the New York/New Jersey area, I'm speaking for the whole area that is included in 18WoS: American Long Haul. With games being manufactured on DVD's you can't tell me that there isn't enough space on a DVD. If the budget was too tight maybe split it into several expansions? Use Google Earth if you can't travel all over the United States and take pictures. I also am wondering that thoughout the game, how come there are absolutely no truck stops anywhere. At truckstops, you can relax, have a meal (everyone, come on you know the words....YMCA, gonna stay at the YMCA....sorry couldn't help it! :-), maybe wash your rig, or buy acessories as well (Yes I saw the History Channels Modern Marvels: Truck Stops). At some weigh stations if you make the wrong turn to the parking lot before you "get weighed, you get a ticket! It's also weird to see no one manning the weigh stations. You can't even look through the building's window. What I'm implying is that the realism factor has certainly gone down. The first couple from the 18WoS series it's understandable and I have been amazed as to how 18WoS first came out and matured into a surprising hit as a driving simulation and business sim. If the cities are more realistic instead of empty of any human activity, and the routes to get to and from cities was more accurate, I think I would not mind to pay extra if the coompany raised the price from With todays computers (dual core, quad core) and graphic cards, SCS/Valusoft can certainly put together a 18WoS game that certainly can be deep and wow people. Reading a few reviews when the 18WoS franchise was first started showed that it was a surprise hit and got better with each new release (again not counting Convoy).

I only played the demo (and have AML when I bought Big City Rigs) for a few minutes because it seemed like I was playing Haulin all over again. I enjoy Haulin even though the graphics are making me go blahhhh. If you feel the same way, stick with Haulin because if you buy American Long Haul, its 99.9999999% the same and yes if you don't own Haulin then American Long Haul would be the one to get.

It would be nice if the next title in the 18WoS series would bring live cities: people, more realistic buildings, bridges, traffic, construction, accidents, and toll bridges. Maybe the developers can add car washes and realistic gas and service stations. Can I get out of my truck to pump my own gas? Can I check the oil and engine? Check my tires? Can I buy a snack or a drink? Can I tell the mechanic (depending on the time of the day to check the engine)? Replace the tires? What about truck stops? What about after a long delivery, can I go to a Motel or Hotel (again getting out of my truck) and rest? Talk to other truckers in the lobby? Talk to other truckers in the truckstop? If I am in Las Vegas, can I actually stop off at the casino? If my house is nearby, can I go home and rest? It would be nice if I had a reason for working as a trucker or owning my own business. If I had a house somewhere in the cities or outlining suburbs-I have bills to pay. If I own a company there is got to be other things to do than simply hiring drivers and buying them rigs. How about building an office complete with a truck yard? Take on multiple computer opponents. Finally, since when do you deliver your cargo and there is no one to except it. It would be nice to have a forklift and deliver the goods into the warehouse or place of business that you are deliverying to. If you brought cars, you should be able to drive the cars off your trailer and put them in the dealers lot. Can you give bills/reciepts to show that you had reached your destination. It's weird dropping off cargo and it all of a sidden disapears when you press "T" and you get the money automatically into your bank account. All the companies are completely devoid of people and no other trucks come in but yours.

It's time to polish up the graphics, extend throughout the farthest reaches of North America. Let it become what the Simcity franchise has been known for----neverending and without any "clear goals." You just need to balance your budget. The game could end if you decide to retire, steal from the company and get caught, get arrested and can't pay the court fees and fines and/or jail time or cause such a horrific accident that your license it taken away for good. A good lesson within the game would be if you are in a resturant/bar on your night off or your down time and you drink to much, the police WILL catch you and determine if you were under the influence, arrest you, and this means game over. A realistic police force (an intelligent AI) would be fantastic. Throwing a wrench in this game would be to become the TOP TRUCKING COOMPANY that meets the demands of "its" customers while balancing a budget. If you retire you can have the option of buying an industry or a commerical business that trucking companies do business with so you're still a part of the action if you decide to "take a break." It would be great to have control of building your own warehouse to store whatever your hauling and actually have employees as well yourself removing the cargo. Again the cities in Long Haul as well as the previous 18WoS, are so stale that it seems like no one lives in these cities. All you see are cars and trucks. The wow factor in this game and hopefully this won't be the last one is to release it on a DVD(s) and restore this game as a model of beauty. I think (and I'm not speaking for everyone) people will be willing to shell out a little bit more if this game, company, and franchise go up a level or two and take the Tycoon trophy.

An option for multiplayer would be interesting. People can decide to be a trucker, own, a truck dealership, drive in cars, become a police officer, a customs official (goods coming from abroad and into your warehouse to ship), own/build resturants, car washes, gas stations, industries, the tools for trucks (pipes/hoses for gasoline trailers ect. You could drive a gasoline trailer either to the gas companies refinery and/or the actual gas station and fill up the stations gas tanks for its customers.

I realized that the modest system requirements have allowed the 18WoS franchise to bring a great level of playability and realism. I think it's time to up the system requirements and completely change how a simulation and a tycoon game can be created. With todays computers and computer components as well as their prices, the game can reach another level. I would love to see this game require dual core processors and at least a NVidia 8800 and ATI x1950 or higher video card. Most systems if not all of them out today are at least dual-core systems.

To anyone who's never played the 18WoS games then this is the game for you. For those people who own 18WoS: Haulin, it's pretty much the same game and you might feel disappointed and think, "Hey, I just played this in Haulin.", when you play the demo. I love the 18WoS series and hope new content is added.
