Manhunt 2 - Sony PSP Reviews

Manhunt 2 - Sony PSP

Manhunt 2 by Rockstar Games is a perfectly serviceable adventure game that holds up very well on the PSP. As the game strongly advises from the onset be sure to play these games with headphones on and preferably in a darkened environment. To do so otherwise greatly diminishes the expertly crafted mood and atmosphere that truly is the best thing about this title. As for the gameplay itself Manhunt2 is a decent, but not great, adventure romp that most players should be able to complete in 10 hours or so. The game spans 15 episodic chapters (with 1 bonus chapter unlocked after completion) that delves into the character and story of Nathan Lamb, a man with no clue as to his past and present state locked up in a psychiatric ward. Graphically, the heavily grained and filtered visual style looks really sharp on the PSP and the audio is wonderfully layered with some excellent effects and a truly magnificent ambient score.

When purchasing Manhunt 2 realize that it was modified after being threatened with an Adults Only rating meaning that the executions (one of the largest and most time consuming/exciting elements of the game) are censored with a strange blurring/coloring effect. This blurring effect gets really old, really fast especially when it completely masks everything that's happening and it is obviously an out of place tacked on addition; it's not enough to break the game, but it most definitely takes away from the experience (there's not much to be horrified or disturbed by except the executions well that and perhaps the language and bondage themes). The graphics are great, and the rest of the game is executed nicely mission areas are well developed, they load fast, there are interesting obstacles and 'puzzles' (very minor) to overcome as you move along. The AI is decent, though one wonders what kinds of shadows there are in the world of Manhunt 2, even while being thankful for their amazing powers of deception. The NPCs also say all sorts of funny things they're not comedians but you will definitely get a kick out of the things they say.

You have several feedback tools including alertness levels, noise meter and radar (based off of line of sight and noise it's not a freebie). Your view is a little restricted, but since the emphasis is on using your environment and stealth effectively (i.e. you'll have time to look around from shadows and such usually and plan your next move) it's not a big deal. The environments are interesting and well done, complete with plenty of action beyond the player's area, simply to create an immersive experience. The game saves at checkpoints automatically allowing you to progress quickly and without interruptions.

If you have the patients and interest in a horror survival game that focuses on killing in a real world setting as opposed to simply surviving or monsters and such then this is a great PSP game for you. The game recommends playing with earphones, and it truly is a better experience this way the sound effects are pretty good throughout (and the expletives are there throughout as well).

This game is not (in my opinion) particularly scary, though it does have a wonderfully dark environment and emphasis, even if the story is somewhat lacking in intensity.

This game is over the top, it's fun and it's unfortunately hampered by the fact that Rockstar Games was threatened with an AO rating. Thankfully it's still fun to play so good luck Danny.

Manhunt 2 is a game that I figured I would eventually play sometime, it wasn't at the top of my list. I had recently gotten a PSP and a Wii and wasn't sure which one to get it for, if I was going to get it at all. My brother then surprised me for Christmas and got it for me on the PSP, not knowing that I was interested in it at all. I just completed it the other day and have some things to say about it.

Now let me preface this by stating that one of my favorite game franchises of all time is the Metal Gear Solid Series (MGS). The best part about those games are the stealth elements. You hide in a corner, tap the wall, the guard patrolling the area walks over to investigate, you grab him from behind as he walks away and choke him out. You can then either stuff him in a locker, carry him around with you, or leave him there for his buddies to see and wonder "I don't remember leaving this here" It's all real fun but can be very frustrating sometimes. If you fail to choke him out then you end up in mediocre hand to hand combat where all you have have is a stun gun and you're aiming frantically for his head, which never works.

Manhunt works the same way, where you hide in a dark corner, wait for the enemy to come find you, and choke him out. Where the games differ though is that if you miss the execution, either he walks away too fast, or you don't time it correctly, the melee combat actually works pretty well. Unlike the MGS games you usually have more than a stun gun with you. In a lot of the levels you're given a shotgun, or machine gun, and you can just gun fools down. On the psp it locks on for you, so all you have to do is run though, push a button to lock on, and fire away. It was a little easy, but it was very satisfying. The levels were very long too so it didn't feel like I was blowing through the game too quickly.

The executions, if you do pull them off, are awesome. They're extremely violent and brutal, and even though they are filtered due to controversy from the ratings board, you can still tell what's going on with no problem. I have always loved Rockstar's games, from the obvious GTA games, to the lesser known Max Payne or Table Tennis games. I am new the the Manhunt franchise and will probably go pick up the original game for the xbox sometime. The story may not have been as engrossing or cinematic as the MGS games, but I found the game play to be just as tight, if not better. The graphics also looked fantastic on the PSP, I was impressed at how well some of the levels looked, probably just as good as the PS2 version. Manhunt 2 is out for the PSP, PS2, and Wii (probably will take the cake as the most violent game to ever come out on Wii). If you're in to violent stealthy games, I'd pick this one up.

Honest reviews on Manhunt 2 - Sony PSP

The Good: Creepy unsettling atmosphere, gruesome, gory stealth kills, decent story, lots of weapons

The Bad: Censorship detracts you from the experience, story doesn't fill you in enough, most people won't be able to play the uncensored version

While this game doesn't quite live up to its controversy or hype it is a wonderful action game. You play as Daniel Lamb who escapes from an asylum trying to find out who he is and why he is there. While the story takes forever to unfold and is told in tiny bits and pieces it's there. The core game play is the stealth. While this game makes you use your skill over luck it makes for a more rewarding experience. You can hide in the shadows and sneak up on people and perform stealth kills which are gruesome and awesome to watch. There are three different levels of kills depending on how long you hold the action button down for.

Each level is more violent and gruesome and there are tons of different weapons and environmental kills to use. While the kills are somewhat censored with a grainy blurry filter over it this detracts a lot from the experience. I personally played the uncensored version because that's the only way to play. What makes this game so gruesome is if you shoot someone in the head you make a huge hole right through the middle and their brains splatter against the wall. You can saw off people's heads, smash scythes through their skulls, rip out their spines with crowbars, and even slice up their throat with a garrote wire. While not every stealth kill is gory they are bloody and look painful.

Due to Rockstar choosing the older hardware they couldn't pull off super gruesome kills where guts are flying everywhere. There is also gun play where you'll have to go out and kill people but this isn't as fun as the stealth. You'll LOVE Manhunt 2 and if you can tolerate the censorship then go for it. I'd give the censored version an 8.0 but since I played it uncensored I give it an 8.5.

Manhunt 2 is an awesome game you get to kill people in fun ways what more could you ask for, does not get too repetitive, constantly throwing new weapons at you and the story is pretty cool. Suggest it to anyone looking for a great psp game for a great price.

I just picked up this import and have not quit playing it! This game finally lets you be the "thug" you've always dreamed about being. The game is presented beautifully, from the cartoon-ish graphics right down to the city's themselves. The breaks between stages are absolutely AMAZING! The animation is beautiful! I also love the option to create your own tags or download them via internet. But all in all, we can't forget the music. If this game had a soundtrack, I'd buy it in a heartbeat. The music goes along perfectly with the games atmosphere and frantic play. My only complaint on this game is (with almost every other game with it) is the camera. Hopefully this will be fixed for the American version. This game is THE reason to buy a dreamcast. I can safely say this game blows Crazy Taxi out of the water. If you have a DC, BUY THIS GAME!

Jet Grind Radio is yet another impressively creative title to come out of Sega (which is why I'm so fond of Sega), and definitely rates as a success.

The concept is simple, you skate around towns, tagging (spraypainting) certain objects while evading police officers, police dogs, rockets from helicopters, and other baddies. The animation style is really what cements the experience as being something out of the ordinary, though. Dubbed "cel-shading", the end result is something that looks very much like a cartoon. It's really beautiful to watch as well as play.

The gameplay is fun, but has some problems. The first, which likely everyone has addressed, is camera control. There are 3 unused buttons on the controller, and the developers still decided for some unknown reason to double up controls. It's annoying, but you learn to live with it. The other issue that bugs me is that you're constantly on the run from police with no real defense other than fleeing.

One other problem I have is with the menu system. When you boot up, you're given the choice of starting a new game, playing a tutorial, or loading an existing file. However, once you have a game in play (through creating a new game or loading), you have to reboot the system to load another. This is really a patently ridiculous feature and particularly annoying if you like alternating w/ a friend but keep seperate game files.

One other note I should make is that the worlds may seem smaller than they were described by other reviewers at first. I was pretty aggravated and disappointed for a while until I got far enough that I was actually given the opportunity to skate more or less freely without worry of harassment by police, etc.. It's a bit into the game, but worth noting if you get discouraged.

All in all, Jet Grind Radio is still a fantastic game, and definitely a game to get for the Dreamcast. There are minor points that really should have been taken care of, but other than that, a solid effort.

Best Deals for Jet Grind Radio

Really worth much more than the price tag, this is a game that anyone will like. The fairly juvenile premise did turn a lot of folks off when the game was first released (myself included) but I am very glad I looked past that and picked it up.

Awesome gameplay, good cohesive storyline, fresh stylish animation, very inventive and compelling level design that shows how much the Dreamcast as a system is capable of. Not to mention a fairly decent amount of playtime in order to beat it, no arcade 5-minutes-and-you're-done syndrome. Cruise around a portion of the city, bumping off opponents & painting over their graffiti. Eventually the cops show up, which you can usually deal with just be keeping active and running away. But then the Chief shows up, and this dirtbag has a loaded gun! I still get freaked out when I try to run away and the dude is firing live rounds in my general direction as he's chasing. Yikes!

All I can say is "Try it, you'll like it!" It may not be the ultimate skating simulator, but it isn't meant to be. There really are so few decent original action games for the Dreamcast and that makes Jet Grind Radio stand out that much more. The game is pure fun, no matter what age you are.

Honest reviews on Jet Grind Radio

…But the world turns a deaf ear. ...As gazed at, I really began to wonder to myself; "Did it do that bad commercially?" Apparently so. But then again, brilliance is often over-looked at first.

If there has been one thing that I have wanted to applaud Sega for, it was for trying something different. Attacking the norm and attempting to elicit a reaction from it. Games like Crazy Taxi; Shenmue, Metropolis Street Racer, and now Jet Grind Radio have all tried to do something different from the competition (with varying results and success). Which is what brings me to Jet Grind Radio. I think its entire purpose was to try some thing different and be able to get a person to put down another rehashed, "up-dated" and try something new for a change. That alone was why I took notice of the game (I'm a sucker for creative, quality products).

…And quality is what JGR shows. From its unique and very colorful "cel-shaded" graphics, to it's amazingly good J-pop/hip-hop/trance/electronica soundtrack (I'm not normally keen on most of the for mentioned, but I found it quite endearing this time), this game is bursting at the seems with personality. The characters (a bizarre and interesting mix of roller skating punks called "Rudies"), the graffiti tags (which look great) and the cityscapes are all well crafted and implemented well.

But with out quality game-play, this game would just be another pretty face for the next-generation systems (something that seems all too common in most games these days). Luckily JGR talented team of designers also made this game an absolute blast to play. Essentially what JGR is non-linear mix of roller-blading and spray painting in which you must paint designated areas as fast and as smoothly as possible. The painting is done simply by walking up to an arrow and pressing the spray button while avoiding cops and other evil figures. Follow the simple analog commands and you're finished. It takes some time getting used to, but the learning curve is so smooth in the game, you won't even notice. But as you will learn the more you play the game, the game's enjoyment is limited only to your own level of creativity. Nearly everything can be grinded or pushed off of to start a combo of linked tricks. And since the spaces of the game are so varied, the possibilities are endless. With a quick, effective and simple trick system, it becomes even more enjoyable.

But alas, this game is not perfect. The camera work tends to be a bit iffy sometimes (and with limited control over it, it can become frustrating). Not all the music is as great as others (songs like "Super Brother", "Dragula", and a few others are just really irritating). The simplistic trick system, though I love it, is certainly going to annoy others who weaned off of Tony Hawk for so long. But none of these things destroy (or even really dent a marvelous game).

So in the end, I guess its up to you. Do you really want another boring, uninspired shooting game? Or how about another dreadful RPG? Jet Grind Radio is the game for people who want something different in their library of games. Heck, it doesn't even have to be that. Buy it because it's fun game. Period.

It's not perfect. The controls could use some work, and some of the levels are overly difficult.

But you can't help but laugh and smile while playing the game. It has a Parappa the Rapper quality. The gameplay isn't perfect, but the fun factor is absolutely over the top. Some of the Japanese tunes are a little quirky, but the majority are hip with deep beats that get even the most jaded gamer (and sister who hates video games) to tap their foot in unison.

Buy it. It's original. It's fun.

Its not obvious from the product description (or instructions), but this guitar will work with the WII system both with and without the WII remote attached.

Without the Wii-mote attached, you must plug in the included usb reciever into your WII system, find and press the tiny button on the usb reciever until the led for WII lights up, then flip the switch on the guitar to one of the WII modes. The nice thing about this mode is you don't need another Wii-mote. The one drawback I found was that you lose the ability to trigger the "motion activated" game controls found in some of the games.

With the Wii-mote attached, you DO NOT plug in the usb reciever, or even need to put batteries into the guitar. It functions just as any other passive Wii guitar body. One problem you will find with inserting the Wii-mote is that somewhere down the line someone in manufacturing was able to cut costs by getting dongle-plugs with the little plastic nub that the strap can go through. But the slot for the Wii-mote was obvously not designed to accomodate the plastic nub. It makes the Wii-mote stick up an eight of an inch too high, where the back cover plate rubs against the buttons making them get stuck down, or pressed randomly. Which makes game playing impossible. Fortunately, snapping off the plastic nub with a pair of pliers is a quick simple solution that anyone should be able to apply. This guitar now works just as well as my origial Band Hero version.

From all the reviews I've read before purchasing this game I was a little skeptical that it wouldn't be for me. I was wrong. Matter fact I purchased it for my 5 year old boy first, just to keep him away from some of my other games while I'm at work. And you know what? This game stays in the PS3 all day. Not only that, when I get home from work the first thing he wants to do is play Little BIG planet. Its fun for me and him. I was hoping for simplified controls like a Mario plat former with just a jump button. But he's figured out how to use the Dual Shock 3 just as good as me. With the main buttons, X to jump and R1 to grab things, it couldn't be any easier. He also knows how to change their clothes and apply stickers and so on. This game is simple, plain and easy. The only problem he may have is figuring out that the game has some physics involved. Running faster to get further jumps, holding the jump button longer, how to jump on springs like objects to get higher takes a little timing that I even have trouble with. This game has plenty of levels, I play maybe an hour a day since I bought it and still have not finished everything. You can also make your own levels, download levels that others have created online, and play with people online. This game has infinite replay if you get into the community. Also, If you want to teach a child how to be greedy with items than this game is for you. I forgot to say that this game is fun for me too. Glad purchased it and you'll be too. One if the few must own exclusives for the PS3, this is coming from a 360 lover.

I bought this game because it looked like something my wife and I could enjoy together. The first game we'd gotten for the PS3, Ratchet and Clank: A Crack in Time, hadn't really appealed to her. And I wanted to get something we'd both like.

At its core, LittleBigPlanet is just another platforming game in the long line going back to the early Mario Bros. games. The gameplay is good, but nothing radically different from earlier platforming games. But there are several things that take LBP from good to great:

i) The detailed artwork and music The visuals and music on the story levels are fantastic. Each level has a recognizable look and feel that is designed to evoke a particular mood. The music is catchy and adds another level to the game.

ii) Sackboy personalization As silly as it sounds, the ability to change the sackboy's outfit, skin, and accessories makes the game a lot more fun. This ability, combined with the fact that additional personalization options open up throughout the game, means that you can spend a surprising amount of time dressing up (and re-dressing up) your sackboy.

iii) The community levels I have been absolutely amazed at some of the levels that so-called amateurs put together. While some of the community levels are poorly conceived, there are incredible gems out there. Many of these levels are just as good as the story levels. If I had the time (and the skill) it would be a lot of fun to build my own level and share with the community.

This is a great game and I highly recommend it. We've gotten hours and hours worth of fun out of it.

BRIEF OUTLINE OF THE GOTY EDITION

Play, Create, Share that's the LBP motto and, unlike most marketing empty slogans, Little Big Planet is more than up to the promise.

The Game of the Year edition includes all the paid content made available online since the initial release and more see below:

18 user-created levels developed especially for the GOTY, good but not always up to the polish level of the professional levels

3 sticker packs some paid for these to download, include here

16 new costumes see above

the complete Metal Gear Solid set of levels that includes trophy levels and never-seen-before weapons such as the Paintinator

the key to access the online beta of ModNation Racers (after December 3, I believe)

All of this on top of what turned out to be an already incredible game that stimulates creativity, cooperation, curiosity and celebrates the players themselves, proud creators of over one million levels, published and accessible by all. I don't play the game so much but, when it comes to the kids, this is by far their number one game and they have quite a few to choose from already. They are proud of their creations and they seem to have what seems to be endless fun playing other people's levels online.

REVIEW

Since this is about the GOTY, I will not write a full review of the game itself. I understand that many are new to the Little Big Planet universe but, it turns out, great reviews of the original game have been written by others so simply click on LittleBigPlanet to get an idea of what the game is about. Suffice it to say here that LPB takes advantage of just about every feature and peripheral that the PS3 has or supports and its online interaction is simply unparalleled. For example, you can go to a friend's profile and not only play his or her levels but see what other players levels your buddy liked and get to try those out. Or, you can create some awesome weapons. You can include that weapon inside the prize bubble of a level you create and whomever plays your level can earn the object that you created and use it somewhere else the fun is endless.

PERSONAL EXPERIENCE

Play, Create, Share and, in our case, a lot more. I am not only a (casual) LBP player but also a parent and, to my delight and unlike what 'some' claim, this game has, in fact, made better, smarter kids. And I'm talking about my two boys. They took the 'create' part quite seriously and, after staging duels with custom-made awesome weapons, they began working on their own levels and, to my surprise, they actually asked me to help them learn computer programming which we are doing now. And their grades have actually improved the reason they are getting the GOTY is because they've done well in school so far this year.

EVALUATION AND RATING

If the 'regular' edition was a 5-star in my book, then add 50% to the initial evaluation. It's a definite 'must have'.

For anyone who doesn't own the original LBP, the GOTY is without a doubt the way to go. For owners of the original edition... I don't know if everybody does this but we were able to sell our 'used' (it was in mint condition, actually) copy of LBP for about half of the original price and we used the earnings to partially finance the purchase of the GOTY.

Honest reviews on LittleBigPlanet - Game of the Year Edition Playstation 3

LittleBigPlanet is absolutely amazing. I have never seen such a creative game that has so much to offer. This was my first night playing the game and I am hooked. This game is so much fun I played it for about 6 hours straight. The levels are amazing and so full of character. You can unlock tons of upgrades to customize your sackboy or sackgirl. There are also free downloads on the Playstation network for this game from time to time. The game is exciting with so much to explore and tons of vehicles and rides like mine cars, skateboards, roller coasters, ferris wheels, bumper cars, spaceships, submarines and so much more. Your kids will love it!!! I am 29 and I love the game. Plus you can create your own levels and even host them online for others to play. It is a little complicated to create levels but the tutorials do a good job of explaining it. You can also play with and against others online and even chat with them. If you own the playstation eye you can upload your own pics and add them to the levels for a truly personalized experience. I have uploaded several screen shots so you can get a better idea what the game is like.

It doesn't matter what type of games you play, shooters, RPGs, platformers, puzzle, etc. you will appreciate aspects of LittleBigPlanet and will enjoy what it has to offer as there is no denying this an impressive take on the traditional platformer.

GRAPHICS: Beautiful, the textures are gorgeous and the game runs as smooth as it possibly could, online or off, 4 players or 1. The best graphics I've seen in a side-scrolling platformer. The detail is great though you may not notice things like reflections in the score bubbles at first glance. Technically sound and visually impressive.

GAMEPLAY: Your mom could play this game. There are only two buttons, jump and grab, and you move left to right (or right to left). It is complicated a bit by the 2.5D setting, meaning there are 3 levels of "depth" to the layout, but you get used to it quickly. There is technically nothing "new" added to the platform genre, ie moving platforms, large jumps, and springs that shoot you up in the air, but the level design is so innovative and smart and there will be plenty of times you'll think "Wow that is really cool, they could never do that in Mario." Of course all this pales to the best feature of the gameplay, PHYSICS, which is what gives you that "Mario needs to catch up" feeling. The physics are rock solid, just a hair above realistic to let you do some fun things but when you're swinging from grapple to grapple attached to a bungee cord and your sackboy is holding on for dear life punping his legs to getthat extra inch before you jump, it always feels right. Utilizing objects in the environment is perfect and they move with realistic weight. A light tap of the X button yields a small jump while pressng harder yields a much higher jump.

The only hit to gameplay is that with 3 or 4 players the camera can struggle to keep up with the action, but while this may cause some (very) minor annoyances, it prompts groups to work together, stay close, and leave no man (or woman) behind.

CUSTOMIZATION: For a platformer, the game has an unprecedented amount of customization. Each level is packed with goodies that allow you to alter the appearance of sack boy (or girl), from the simple: changing his color or add polka dots, to the complex: adding a george washington style wig with pilgrim pants and a spear for him to carry (in case the natives attack...). Add to that the customization of your "Pod," which is like your home base, and no one will ever have two setups that are the same. You can add hundreds of decorations and even choose music from your hard drive to play while you wait in between levels. Throw in a level creator that is so detailed you could technically recreate anything that the game developers created, and the overall level of customization is unparalleled in the genre. Keep in mind though, that creating a detailed level will take a lot of time, the tool is very comprehensive but you wont be creating a level in minutes.

CO-OP: Cooperative play is where the game shines, it was built for this and is the single reason Nintendo created New Super Mario Bros. Wii to compete. Online play is a snap and people can jump in and out of your games with ease, up to 4 people on a level at once. Inviting players is easy and co-op works just as strongly offline. Certain parts of levels are only accessible with 2 or more players so there is always incentive to have a friend or 2 or 3 along for the ride.

REPLAY VALUE: The only real knock I agree with on the game is that the story mode is short. I can't disagree, but keep in mind there is a lot of content in each level, it scores you against your friends as well as the world online and will let you know how many items you missed on the level giving you plenty of reason to play through multiple times to get that 100% completed. You WILL want to achieve some of these things. Also, as of now there are tons of detailed user created levels to keep you busy, when the game first released the online community was lacking but as updates have come and users have gotten used to the level creator there are some impressive ones out there, I suggest searching by hghest rated to get solid levels. GOTY edition comes with a few downloadable packs, about 20 total additional levels and a ton of extra stickers, decorations, costumes, and clothes to increase the aforementioned customization.

This game is for EVERYONE. Men take heed, your girlfriend who has never touched a videogame and scoffs at you when you choose to play over spending time with her will be intrigued as soon as you turn this title on. The cuteness of the characters alone will make her ask "what is this?" Women, take note, this is an easy to pick up and play game you can finally share with that Call of Duty shooting, Halo alien fighting boyfriend of yours. There are only 2 buttons, so if that 43-button PS3 controller looks too intimidating compared to the 2 button NES controller you played Super Mario on when you were a kid, rest easy, you only need two buttons to jump and grab, that simple. This is one of the best titles for PS3, hands down, the critics know it, the players know it, now stop reading and go find out for yourself.

Disney Sing It: Pop Hits Bundle This is a totally wonderful concept... but just falls short of the 5-star mark. First, I want to say that I LOVE that the background of the game has the actual videos for the songs... not some goofy cartoon characters "mouthing" the words, etc. However, as many reviewers have already pointed out, these are not the most "popular" songs produced by these artists, which makes it harder to sing along with them. The songs are NOT easy to sing, especially if you don't know the words/tunes beforehand. Also, we already own Boogie Superstar, which we LOVE... so thought this would be fun too, as in this game you can sing with two microphones as a duet/helping each other. However, the microphone that comes with THIS bundle is not very good... doesn't work as well as the Boogie Superstar microphone at all. Half the time, this Disney mic doesn't pick up your singing, so you end up "missing" the notes, meanwhile my daughter who is using the Superstar mic is getting great scores on the same song. Lastly, although the Superstar mic has a long cord on it that plugs into the Wii... the packaging on this Disney bundle led me to believe that the microphone here would be cordless... NOT SO! It also has a super long cord, which is just more tangle to deal with. :(

So between the sub-standard (and misleading picture above) microphone, and the more obscure song list included with this game, I can only rate it 3 stars instead of the 5 star potential it should have had. Again, I DO like the duet option and the music video backgrounds, but wish the interface with the people playing the game was a bit better thought-out/quality.

Disney Sing It: Pop Hits Bundle is perfect for kids who love to sing along with the radio or music videos. My two granddaughters, 5 and 13, love it. It's something they can play by themselves, without adult assistance. In fact, they won't let the adults play! If you have older kids who are serious gamers, they would probably tire of this quickly, but it's great for youngsters (and their parents & grandparents) who are looking for something easy and fun!

This product is cool and can be a lot of fun. However, it gets boring pretty fast due to the songs. There are not that many songs and probably half of the songs I have never heard before. At this point there is no way to add new songs and singing the same song over and over is only fun for so long. Otherwise, great game.

Honest reviews on Disney Sing It: Pop Hits Bundle

I bought this for my 13 yr old, and she is not familiar with many of the songs, but she does like it and she plays it sometimes. I think I should have gotten the original version instead of the pop hits. Also, my daughter wants myself and her grandmother to take turns with her, so I with they'd include a song that older people could relate to.

I love the layout of the game and the music with the background videos is great! Although it gets annoying that each video starts playing simply when you start scrolling down to see what offerings there are it burns me out on the tunes before I even click to sing them.

I don't like that the lead vocals cannot be turned off, meaning you are singing duet with the actual artist. While this can be helpful the first few times with a song you're unfamiliar with it gets annoying when you want to actually hear your voice singing the song. It's more of a sing-a-long than karaoke.

I like the voice bar that shows you in real time if your pitch matches the singer's. However, there is no explanation or meter to show if your harmonies are on or even how this is scored (even though it gives you a percentage at the end of the song). Without knowing anything else, it's impossible to improve (and no, it isn't listed in the manual).

The songs aren't well known, there were only 2 that I recognized off the bat. But, for the most part, they are really good songs just not well known ones. After a few times, you can pick up the song and enjoy it more.

Sometimes the words are the same color as the background making it really hard to read the line or next line and it takes a lot of talent to read the words, sing on pitch, and watch your voice bar all at once for songs you don't know.

I wish the microphone hooked up into the wii remote rather than requiring you to stand next to the wii console, plugged in.

Overall, it has room for improvement, but for a beginner karaoke (or even just someone who is looking to improve their pitch), it's a good game!

Crunching an over-the-top arcade rocket-boat simulator onto a PSX disc can't be easy -look how badly "San Francisco Rush" missed the mark -so it's a pleasant surprise to find Hydro Thunder so true to the arcade original.

Tweaking the arcade game slightly to squeeze out some more replay value, you begin the game with your choice of three easy boats and three easy tracks. Finishing 1st, 2nd, or 3rd (in a field of 16) on these tracks opens up the medium set, where you need to be second or better to move onto the hard tracks.

The graphics are a wildly mixed bag -some races have patches of incomprehensible blur and pixelation (most notably the first portion of the "Arctic Circle" track), while at times you'll be stunned by surprisingly good reflection and other water effects.

The developers also did a great job of keeping in all the "look ma!" cutesies of the arcade game, such as police boats and tour guides chasing you down the river (sample audio: "the tracks in Hydro Thunder were constructed from thousands of tiny triangles... oooh!")

The knock against this game is the agonizing difficulty level. You won't win a race without finding significant shortcuts and getting most, if not all, of the "boosts", which often require a special "hydro jump" technique to blast out of the water and into the air. I'm all for getting more than five hours of playability out of a disc, but in HT, it seems you have to run the same track 30 or more times to get the perfect run that places you high enough to move on. It's grueling, and when all's said and done, I think the shortcut-crazed novelty-racer might do better to play "Sled Storm" instead.

But if you absolutely loved the arcade game, the PSX version is a worthy adaptation.

First off I want to say that as a protective skin this is worthless, but the reason I gave it a high score is that as a "decorative skin" this is great. My wife loves that she has been able to make her 360 controller more "hers" and it has improved her feelings of actually owning a part of the console. So while this might not be great for all you guys out there. Give this one a think if you have a girlfriend, fiancee, or wife that plays games with you. It's a little touch that lets her be just a little more girly on a console known for its multi-player tea-baging and sometimes belligerent conversation.

It was 2003 when Max Payne 2 came out, a sequel to a bloody, faul language game that had me go through its campaing at least 12 times. Bullet time was my old time favorite, and going through some of Max's darkest dreams was always a riddle on its own...

Now Max Payne 3 is here..we find an older Max, boozed and high on pills, the same old demons inside his head...His old self in a brand new game...Max Payne 3 will take you for a wild ride from the minute you start until the very end. I started playing the game last night at midnight and haven't been able to put it down until now; a solid single player will keep you on your toes and the various multiplayer options will keep you occupied for many hours to come.

The story begins with Max finding himself working in Brazil for a private security company looking after a real state big shot, whom puts Max in charge of his wife's security..of course, she is kidnapped..and that's as far as I will go...NO SPOILERS here. The main story is great, it will keep you intrigued from start to end, I can't go into much detail, but I can promise you this, it is a wild ride. You will be taken from Brazil to the US and back. The story will unfold in ways you won't expect and I guarantee you will like every bit of it, I can't say more without spoiling it, so I'll stop with one phrase, get ready, this is the best Payne so far. An explosive end awaits you.

The game looks amazing, from face animation to environments, everything has been done with extreme detail and it truly paid off for Rock Star, this is an A++ game. From shadows, to night lights, to gun battles, you will have plenty of eye candy to enjoy; it is a gorgeous game.

If you have a surround sound system, get ready to get your face melted; the deep bass and sharp bullets sounds make this an experience like no other. The voice work is top notch filled with plenty of faul language and taunts, it's the old payne we knew from before. One of my favorite aspects of the game, sound wise, is the background music, a bit slow mo samba, with a twist of drama, keeps the atmosphere in suspense, the music caliber of hollywood big budgets; the voice work, specially from the locals, is dead on, Portuguese is spoken and NOT translated, giving the game a true authenticity the reflects what you would feel in that situation when you find yourself in a foreign land not knowing the language and its slangs. A true masterpiece.

I'm happy to report that the controls are solid, I had no issues popping fools left and right and best of all, BULLET TIME is back! oh yeah, fans of the series will be pleased and new comers will know what's all about. Bullet time gives Max the ability to slow down battle time and shoot your way out of tricky situations. You basically have a Bullet Time meter that gets used every time, but can be filled by killing enemies or when you're getting shot at. The covering systems is as good as always, but this time be careful, some cover can be destroyed and will leave you out in the open, so be prepared to move quickly. Rockstar added a "Final Kill Camera" which basically will let you know that you've cleared and area, you can slow the camera down for a more intense view :)

The game is rated "M" for mature and for good reason, there's plenty of booze, pills and sexual themes to go abound, so make sure under age kids don't play this. Max has to actually take pain killers as means to recover health (like good old times)

Targetting is has three stages, Hard Lock, which will lock whatever enemey is closer to you; Soft Lock, requires you to aim closer to targets and OFF, which basically turns targetting assistance off.

Enemy AI, I was worried at first, but again, RockStar has pulled it off, there's nothing dumb about those fools. They will take cover and try their best to make you bleed.

Multiplayer: The multiplayer aspect of this game is fun and addictive and it has the following modes and sub-modes:

Matchmaking: Join or creat your own party/game.

PlayLists:

Traning modes...deathmatch and team deathmatch for players new to the whole Max Payne MP experience (basically all of us)

DeathMatch: every gangster for himself

Team DeathMatch: Work with your gang to kill your rivals

Payne Killer: a blend of co-op and competetive play. The game starts with a standoff, whoever kills first, gets to be Max Payne and Raul Passos.

Large DeathMatch: up to 16 players killing each other.

Large Team DeathMatch: same as above, but in teams.

Gang Wars (my favorite:

Key events from the single player story are used as start off points. Gang Wars has the following:

Warfare... all out battle for supremacy

Showdown... battle to the death, the gang's strength depends on the previous rounds

Survivor....limited team lives

Last Stand... each gang member has only ONE life.

TakeDown... a target based mode. Take out the target and kill everybody else.

Short Fuse... arm a bomb and protect the one doing it.

Delivery...both gangs must collect and deliver items to a location

Grab....gangs fight to capture two bags and delivery them

Turf Grab....battle for turf

Total Turf...fight for multiple turf sections

Siege...pinned, one gang must hold on to 3 territories.

Passage... one gang runs for their life while being hunted by the other (one of my favorites)

If you want sex, alcohol, drugs, psycho episodes and plenty of blood, then Max Payne 3 is for you; a complete game by all means. Great story, awesome mechanics, gore and Bullet Time...Max is defenitely back.So there you have it, another solid game from the dudes at Rock Star, these guys have been in business for a long time and they always deliver. Kudos to them.

I've been eagerly looking forward to the new installment of Max Payne for quite awhile. I even went to PAX East this year to try it out in person. I'll pair the good against the bad and you guys can decide for yourself from there.

THE GOOD:

The Story: Max Payne's saga is a sad one as you well know if you had played the previous two installments. In this entry, Max has his rock bottom and he's a pill popping alcoholic. Rockstar knows how to craft a tight story and show some serious depth to characters. Max is no exception and his bleak story draws you in from beginning to end. His one liners and quips are also fantastic. He's a noir character through and through.

Graphics: The environments, character models and areas look amazing. All of them are highly detailed, always fresh, and a lot of fun to blow guys away in. The slums of Sao Paolo look particularly amazing. It's a really amazing set piece and Rockstar has delivered a beautiful games in spades.

Sound: The acting in the game is top notch, the characters all sound great, the action is intense, the music is cool and overall it's a strong showing.

Multiplayer: The multiplayer is fast, intense and really cool. The various loadouts you get to use really make for a variety of ways to play. The updated Rockstar Social Club is great for setting up your crew and checking out your stats. The multiplayer modes vary a bit as well, making for some different, fun experiences. This will likely be where the majority of people spend their time.

THE MIDDLE:

Bullet Time: It's back and it's still as cool as you remember. For awhile. Once the nostalgia and novelty factor wear off you'll find that it's sometimes easier to do things in real time rather than diving all over the place. I don't know if it was just me but the enemies in this have some seriously pinpoint accuracy and if you dive out, you either hit everyone and kill them of you're screwed.

Checkpoints: I found myself replaying a lot of areas after a stupid death because the checkpoints don't come as often as I'd like. I'm sure I'll get BETTER in time, but, it was still pretty annoying to do the same "super cool jump through the window into the kitchen" move three times.

THE BAD:

Repetitive: The game is a linear shooting gallery through various locations. If the story/graphics didn't fall under "good" this would be a major blow to the game. There isn't a ton of variety, but, the strength of the story, acting, sound and graphics carry it though.

No Grenades: The bad guys get grenades. I want grenades.

People can bicker all day long about what makes a video game, "fun", and I'll leave you guys to keep doing that. I am here to give you my very brief opinion on Max Payne 3.

If anyone out there is more like me, meaning, you absolutely love shooting humans (not aliens) with guns (not outer-space lazers) then hear me now: No other shooter on the planet will give more satisfaction than Max Payne 3.

Reasons:

1) Enemy bodies and how they react to the bullets is the best i've ever seen in a video game. Most realistic to date, in my opinion.

2) With the music turned off (which i almost always do in video games), the gunfire sounds, environment damage from bullets, enemy gunfire, etc is "hard-hitting & pacts a punch". Sound is huge to me, and May Payne 3 delivers.

3) Bullet-Time/Dodge + minor cinematic slow-mo's of deaths to showcase some brutality. Simply fun to see, and adds that final layer of "hell yea" to the experience.

From just a pure "shooting guns" experience (single player), this is the cream-of-the-crop. Everyone else can keep your COD's and ultra-hollywood "set-pieces, i'll take a more mature-feeling, raw-hitting, powerful & gritty, gory "balls to the wall" shooting experience in Max Payne 3 any day of the week.

Enjoy.

Honest reviews on Max Payne 3 - Xbox 360

General info:

I loved the original two games as a teenager, the mechanics, the story, the darkness and voice acting were revolutionary for their day; and it was a long, long wait for Max to return, and given how much I enjoyed the previous two games my expectations where high (given the amount of money and hype rockstar poured into production)

Likes:

The game is very long, keeping in the Max tradition; I'm a fairly experienced gamer and the campaign took me 11 hours on easy

They kept true to the darkness of the series and Max's self pitying mental state

The number of cut scenes both voiced and filmed were amazing

Max wasn't able to hold 2938012904813 weapons in his trenchcoat and instead rockstar went with the more conventional layout of carrying a couple weapons at a time that has become the industry standard now

Dislikes:

The graphics/particularly the scenery is not cutting edge and smacks of corner cutting

The plot is confusing and largely non-sensical (a huge drop off from the original series)

Although the story and max himself are largely as dark as the original, the plot lacks the poetry (if that's the word) of the originals... I wouldn't call it a film noire like the originals

The enemies are not very interesting and largely faceless including the bosses

Severe dislikes:

I realize rockstar was trying to innovate some stuff for 3rd person ( a genre that has largely not kept up with the 1st person advances since Max debuted in the early 00's); but they honestly didn't do a great job. The camera is too close to max creating bad angles and poor vision (vision of surroundings is supposed to be one of the strengths of 3rd person games)

The bullet time due to the camera angles is extremely unweildy and I largely played the game without it

The selection of weapons is extremely bland (think Kayne and Lynch 2)

Max cannot sling any long guns, and if he has a long gun, must keep it in one of his hands, this is maddening... he didn't need the arsenal in the trenchcoat like the old games and limiting him to one long arm is fine, but he should have been able to sling the one long arm he can hold

Max drops all or most of his weapons in dozens of cut scenes for a variety of explained or unexplained reasons which kills continuity and is very frustrating

The maps are completely liniar and there is absolutely zero free roaming

The find bonuses/painkillers part of the challenges are not interesting

The crouching/prone aspect is useless

Dealbreakers:

Max's entire movement is slow/awkward as is his "going into cover" which routinely puts you behind objects you didn't want to go behind or from angles you didn't intend; because of the poor camera angles, and being too close to max you largely spend half the game rotating the camera which is stupid

The aiming system is also largely terrible no matter what sensitivity you set it to

Max tells his story largely in a drunken stupor, and Rockstar thought they should make the camera fuzzy and blinking every 2 seconds as he talks or is cut scenes, huge waste of time, does nothing for the story and just gets annoying as hell within 5 minutes of start up; and you have to deal with it the ENTIRE game

Bottom line:

If you love max, it has max, hours and hours of him

However as a 3rd person shooter it falls grossly behind games that predate it including Brothers in Arms Hell's highway, previous splinter cell games and Army of 2 40 days (which employ similar concepts of duck and cover) even infamous 2 has considerably more finess and open ended activity than bringing Max out of retirement. To me this is largely a play control copy of Kayne and Lynch 2

IMO... if you loved the originals you can buy this BUT I would advise to wait till prices come down in the secondary market, as there is nothing at all earth shattering in the game that says buy me immediately that is worth the extra 30 dollars

Find helpful customer reviews and review ratings for Max Payne 3 - Xbox 360

Max Payne met the last generation of consoles and gamers in two installments, both detailing the downward spiral of titular figure Max as he fought through slums, run down apartments, and his very own nature. Key companants to the Max Payne universe have been kept intact and is still ultimately a third person shooter. Rest assure 'bullet time' (slow motion) isn't just a fashion statement, nor are the sleek graphics. Crack open the Xbox 360 version and take a gander at disc two, Max in fact deeply understands satire, sporting a tropical button up and displaying a 'Breaking Bad' baldness, he's back.

I emphasize the feel and look as this is a new premise for the series. There is far more to said about the presentation of the game, than the straight to the point shooting, which wasn't a great leap forward. The gameplay is not particularly intricate. Typical of todays third person shooters a cover system can be found nestled between pavement, objects and corners preventing you from eating bullets (and painkillers). It really might just be the overall projection of everything in motion that gives this title such sweeping charm.

Nearly a decades past and Max is more cynical than ever, no longer a homicide detective, Brazil serves as his new drinking spot and not just when he's an off duty body guard. Sunshine and all this is not a bright game, credit goes to lead writer Dan House who apparently respected the complexity of the characters and the darker qualities surrounding them. Much like his work for Red Dead Redemption, another prolific Rockstar title, characters are charicatures, parodies, capable of expressing far more about our society than most forms of prominent media. Max's engagement to protect a rich family who constantly include him in places he's least likley to thrive only bring out more of his jaded quips. Could one honestly imagine a Bruce Willis like figure lounging in a dance club complete with DJs oonce oonceing the place with house music? Martini glasses sipped on roof tops with glass siding to take in the high life in contrast to Max's desire to grip hard alcohol by his lonesome. Max does have a buddy though, Passos, who helps the player draw out more interesting dialogoue. No amount of yuppie yaht cruises or fevala trailing will keep his memories at bay, expect flashbacks. Expect to enjoy those flashbacks more so due in part by the dynamic Euophoria engine that throttles the animation(s). It's like revisting the past with gifts from the future.

Every bullet is traceable in this game, certain executions trigger a cinematic approach to view the last moments of your enemy. Jokes on you though, this same fate can be met. Stay alert the cover system may of been a coveted feature, slowing down the action and leaving one to play whack-a-mole, but with no regenerative health abilities it's a life saver . Slow motion is a concept that sounds good on paper but hard to introduce on am multiplayer game without feeling broken. Think 'Dead Eye' in Red Dead, offline it wrack up dozens of slow motion eliminations, online its cheapened to a tool of quick fire to compensate. The multiplayer portion of the game actually works this in by having a player aim at the intended recipient. Slow motion will only be enabled for those caught in the way, so as to keep matches from constantly being stuck in the Matrix. Modes include a standard team deathmatch, free or all, and an experimental mode that has players fighting to become Max by eliminating whoever is selected as Max (odd I know).

Player customization is faction specific, but what you can do with each model is astounding. There are minor and major character models to be unlocked, expect to see many of the same looking characters at first though. Leveling up uses a currency experience system, buy what you want for weapons, then assituate yourself on the battlefield, your weapon needs experience too. This sounds menacing, but it's surprisingly reasonable and enjoyable, it's a metagame within a metagame.

The multiplayer isn't a true indication of skill, it can be lopsided, camping spots have already made way, it's a simple fun online investment. Accept it for what it is. If you'd like to use auto aim their is a partitioned set of playlists just for you. The only gripe I've had with this option is the pistols having no reticule 'bloom' making it easy to exploit. Other weapons still require one to feather the trigger. Overall the online could have been a lot worse, and it doesn't demand some goofy online pass code to play. It's a pop and play game where the menus feel like a left over from Grand Theft Auto IV and you don't even care.

All in all Max Payne might just make for a better rental if you intend to hit up the campaign, you are a lot closer to disc two then you'd think. For a game series that hasn't been touched upon since the early 2000's, and having endured a rough film now fostered forever to its legacy, Max Payne has made a notable entry for 2012's hottest games. Big titles are scheduled this year, Max Payne more than likely isn't going to win any game of the year (GotY) awards, for what this is it works. The multiplayer may not be anything to write home about but it's entertaining, the story is all over the place, but the writing is alluring. Exchanges between characters are memorable, funny, interesting, things that are like a forgotten art in the world of game lingo tying down to "tango down!". The artsy flash of text on the screen from flashy or stale statements is a nice change, and ultimately while the story may hold similarity to the film "Man on Fire", it's how everything culminates. Shake but don't stir, some elements just work.
