For those that may not know, this game is based on the popular Ducktales afternoon cartoon show of the Disney Afternoon series of the eighties/early nineties.
This game is great, a nostalgic look back at one of the greatest 8 bit NES games ever. I have had a blast with the couple hours I've spent with it. When this game was mentioned at Wayforward's (the game developer) comic con panel, they said they brought back many of the show's original voice talents, one of which was Alan Young, who is now 93, who voices Scrooge McDuck. The music has also been totally re-vamped, still has those shreds of 8 bit midi awesomeness weaved in there though: AMAZING. It has a ton of unlockables that allow you to open up the original 8 bit theme music and play the game to that instead! It also has Steam achievements, which I love.
If you don't know what DuckTales is as either the show or the 8 bit videogame, you should skip this. This is not the greatest game ever as I've seen lots of critics pounce on it for design choices (it is a 2D platformer after all.) They are missing the point. This game immediately took me back to coming home from school to an empty house (mom and dad both worked) and feeling that awesome anticipation for watching this show (along with the rest of the Disney Afternoon). A couple of the original show's writers referenced that viewers had told them that the Disney Afternoon had actually raised them, that those years spawned a lot of latchkey kids, who had to fend for their selves, due to both parents working to make ends meet.
I found the gameplay to be excellent, maybe not quite as tight as the original 8 bit, but close. The visuals are jaw dropping: after playing this, I watched a play through of the NES version on youtube. You can see how much effort these guys put in to this. Really, really beautiful painted backgrounds, new character animations, and the already mentioned soundtrack. (Many panel-goers at comic con reportedly got misty eyed when the devs played the re-imagined "Moon Theme" soundtrack. I know I would've.)
This is more than a game, it's a piece of history/nostalgia. Ducktales gave me a sense of hope and adventure as a kid, which was something I sorely needed.
If you were like me, and looked forward to the Disney Afternoon after a heinous day at school, this game is for you. It's worth your $15.

This is actually my favorite Wii U game. I remember playing DuckTales back in 1989. It's still a fun platformer and this remake does it right.THE GOOD
WayForward treated the game with respect. It added beautiful 3D backgrounds, bold 2D character sprites, and adorable cutscenes. The platforming isn't Mario, but the unique mechanic of the pogo stick makes it fun. Some people have complained about the cutscenes, but guess what? You can skip them very easily! In fact, I'd say the game is generally very good about letting you skip cutscenes and scoreboards at the end when compared to Mario.
THE BAD
The only bad thing about the game is that the jumping mechanic from ropes doesn't work all that well. This is usually not a problem except for the last stage (which I am sure was not in the original game), which requires a lot of ripe-jumping.
THE VERDICT
I love that WayForward remade this game. I only hope we get more like this (Darwking Duck and Chip & Dale deserve remakes too).

When I was a kid, this Disney show was one of my most favorite. Not only did I not know that the show ran for only 100 episodes, or that it inspired a Darkwing Duck spin-off, but I didn't even know that they had their own video games, including a sequel, both which were made by Capcom, the same company that made Mega-Man games, and the VS Calvin games.Scripts McDuck, his nephews, Huey, Duey and Louie, His niece, Webbigail, Webby for short, go on a treasure hunt when they discover a treasure map hidden away inside Scrooge' s painting, after saving it from Scrooge' s enemies, the Be able Boys.
With help from his friends, including Launch pad McQuack, Duckworth, Mrs. Beakly, Buba Duck, and even Gizmo-Duck, Scrooge begins his hunt for the treasures that are revealed on the treasure map. Along the way, although he gets help from his friends, and his nephews, he gets a run-in from his two old foes; a lady witch-like duck named Magica DeSpell and his foe, a Scotland duck named Flint-Heart Clompgold, who will stop at nothing to get the treasure before HE does..., unless Scrooge beats them to it first.
The fun thing about this "Remastered" version is the fact that you can jump into, and swim around in Scrooge' s money bin. The downside? Well, even though you get jewels that get you money, they have background art, concept art, even TV art that you can WASTE that money on. As far as I'm concerned, I may not be Scrooge McDuck myself..., but I don't have to be to know that that would actually be breast thing that he himself would ever waste HIS money on.
Despite all of that, this isn't that bad of a game. If the original game, which I myself haven't played, was good, than this version... is the best. If you're a DuckTales fan, like me and anyone else out there who is a Fan of the show, and their movie, Treasure of the Lost Lamp, and weather you have played the original, or not, give this one a try. You might be surprised.
5 stars out of 5, and a 10 out of 10 for DuckTales Remastered: The Video Game.
You feel the luck..., Duck? ;)
Honest reviews on DuckTales: Remastered
This game is incredible on all accounts. Not only did they improve on the video and the sound effects, but the music is stellar as well. This remastered version takes a filet mignon that is Ducktales on the NES and turns into a 10 course fancy feast. Every stage is lengthened with extra play scenes with cinematic scenes throughout. All the missing pieces that were never explained in the NES are explained here.Be prepared to have a very fast computer as this game is a CPU and video memory hog. The video is that good that it needs all that power. This game is worth every penny. I highly recommend it if you are from the 8-bit or even 16-bit era.

Some of the big game review sites like IGN and Gamespot have been giving this title a bad wrap. I'm here to tell you to IGNORE the haters! As a fan of the original DuckTales for the Nintendo Entertainment System, I found myself feeling skeptical about this "Remastered" version of the game. Why would you want to mess with something so great? Did the game really need to be updated with the latest graphics and audio? The answer is YES!
Aside from the updated graphics and music (the soundtrack is amazing!) Disney tracked down the original voice actors from the DuckTales cartoon series (1987 1990) even Alan Young (voice of Scrooge McDuck) at 93 years old was down for some Duckberg shenanigans!
Disney added animated cut scenes into the game a nice touch! Makes it feel more cinematic like the TV show!
In short, this game rocks. It's a great tribute to a fantastic game and is totally worth every penny!
