Review of Myst Trilogy (Myst Masterpiece, Riven, Myst III - Exile)

Myst Trilogy

These are the best computer adventures money can buy! Many imitations don't measure up simply because they aren't as steeped in story, careful in game creation, or respectful of gamers. Those games were spun out hoping to turn a profit. The Myst trilogy games were crafted to tell a story and provide a smooth, exciting experience. The order of the games is Myst, Riven, and Exile. Riven is most successful integrating the puzzles into the story and environment; Myst is least successful, but it doesn't confuse the game. In fact, my favorite of the six worlds in Myst, called the Selentic Age, is the most chaotic. With each sequel, the graphics are more stunning. This is a big part of these games appeal. The worlds are so beautiful you'll want to return to them after you've won all the puzzles to walk around. I've read that some children ask their parents to play Myst so that they can watch the scenery.

Though the system requirements for each game are pretty low, I highly recommend using a graphics card with 3D acceleration for Exile. The 360 degree views are incredible! Having said that, however, I think Riven may be the most beautiful and fun of the three games. [....]

I don't have these games in this trilogy package, I own the three individual games. Instead of 3 seperate reviews I thought I would combine them. I began with Myst the first of the series. I was blown away by the graphics. Although Myst was developed and marketed years ago, it is still by far the most visually intoxicating game even to date. The sequels, Riven and Myst Exile are of equal caliber. These games are so beautiful that it easy to move about the environments simply for the sheer beauty of it all. Beyond that is the puzzle solving. These are not shoot em' up games, there are clues that you can document along the way (you are supplied with a journal) that when solved provide you doorways to the next puzzle solutions. There is no time limit so you can relax and take your time. Some puzzles are easier than others, for example the most difficult age I experienced was the natural age in Myst Exile. There are a lot of online communities for these games that can help you if you get stuck. The developers have succeeded in creating their own otherworldly scenes that is all their own. It's hard to describe how amazing the visual trip is, it is such a marvel of realistic escapism that you often think of the game when you are not playing it. These environments are places that I would really want to visit! A must must have, top priority game for adventurers. It will become a staple of your collection. No game or set of game compares.

I picked this up a few days ago having never played any of these games and was blown away. Ive only sampled a little bit from each but I can tell you that its very high quality stuff here and as far as it not working for windows xp, all three games work FINE for me on xp. These games are true classics, whether ppl find them too hard or too boring is beside the point, if your into adventure games please give this trilogy a fair shot, you'll more then likely fall in love.

Honest reviews on Myst Trilogy (Myst Masterpiece, Riven, Myst III - Exile)

Myst. Mention this name to any 'hardcore' gamers who basically survive on mindless shoot 'em up games, they cringe in fear. Why? Is the gameplay that terrible that they avoid it like plague. The answer is a simple 'no'. These gamers are simply afraid of the mature level of gaming that MYST and its series projects and yes, they are afraid of its puzzles. They can't solve it as they don't bother to put in effort.

With that said, MYST is one of the classic bestselling game of all time for nine years since its release... until the Sims took over in April 2002. Myst is an adventure game. The beauty about Myst is its breathtaking images of surrealistic worlds and intertwined within it, is a gripping storyline of family rivalry and good vs. evil. The story starts out with you, accidentally touching a picture panel of an old book, and the next thing you know, you are on the island of Myst. From there, you are left with no choice but to explore.

In this trilogy package, you will get all three games:

MystWhere you uncover the dark secrets of this mysterious island.

RivenYou will tread deeper into rich mythology of the Myst history, and save a dying world.

Myst 3: ExileYou try to rescue an entire civilisation stolen.

Each of these three game feature intelligent puzzles that one can solve if he/she is extremely observant, uses every logic that he/she has in their daily life.

The games also features fantastic soundtracks and breathtaking worlds to explore. People who have played Riven has compared the game's graphics like those seen on National Geographic. Want more prove? Log on to the game's website and you will see that Myst 3: Exile, has won numerous graphical awards since it was released last year. And what about Myst? The graphics that it had when it was first released, is the reason why you have a CD-Rom drive in your PC now. Many poeple wanted to play the game way back in '93 and to do so, they needed a CD-Rom drive.

Myst is indeed a fantastic game to play, and with this package, there's nothing much to loose. Sure, it doesn't work well on Windows XP and Me... but most games on the market don't too.

Myst triology will definately be and adventure that you cannot forget.

I am a large fan of backyard sports. This is one of my favorites!

If you want to see the backyard kids more grown up and more skilled, get this. Believe it or not, Sunny Day is older too. You can earn new places, people, and coaches! If you type in a certain name under create a player, a new kid comes out to play. HINT: Read all of the credits, you will see 6 names, one is a nickname, those are names you need. Copy them down fast! I wonder what the next game will be, but this one is great! If you get it, you will love it, I know I do.

This is the best game in the Backyard Series by far. The graphics are far superior and the game is more challenging. At first glance you can easily see that the kids look like they're 5 years older. Also, when playing you're first game the gameplay is quick and it might take a game or two to get used to. When you start you are also not in the traditional clubhouse start menu. There are secret rinks, coaches, and players (Possibly Mario or Lindros?)which you can earn. The players include Curtis Joseph, Martin Brodeur, Jarome Jagr, Mike Modano, Jarome Iginla, Paul Kariya, Joe Thornton, Steve Yzerman, Joe Sakic, and ,urs truly, Brian Leetch of the Rangers. Also u can choose from a 18-30 game season plus playoffs. Practice makes perfect with this game. Enjoy!

I LOVE the backyard series. I have all the games. Personally, backyard baseball is my favorite. Well, anyways, I was very excited when I heard this game was comming out, but then thought it might be too similar to backyard soccer. Well, it is kindof similar, but it is very fun. There are about 6 fields and all the famous backyard kids are back, too. So, this game is overall good, but not a whole lot different than the soccer one....I'm still waiting for a Backyard Volleyball to come out!!Oh, guess what..one more thing...all the backyard kids have aged alittle and look different.

It was the most fun game i've ever played ,the details were incredible this is the best backyard game yet. They've changed the way all the kids look and evrything. It's awesome.

Review of Playstation 3 / PS3 / XBOX360 Custom Dust Cover Protector

Playstation 3 / PS3 / XBOX360 Custom Dust Cover Protector

I got tge dust cover for my PS3 slim, and it fits perfectly over the console.

Its made of thick material...kinda like a canvas material and covers the system completely to keep the dust etc. out of the system while not being used.

****NOTE****

The manufacturer DOES NOT sell the dust covers for a PS3 slim on Amazon.

I ordered mine through Amazon, but I emailed the manufacturer stating that I had a PS3 slim & not an Xbox360.They replied back stating that the dust covers they listed on Amazon.com are for the older "fatter" PS3's,but they do sell covers for the newer slims, and that theyd just go ahead and pull a slim cove from their stock & send it.

I did go to their actual online store, and sure enough, the PS3 slim covers were same priced as the PS3 Fat cover. They have covers for all sorts of systems & electronics.

I just want to be sure anyone else that orders a PS3 dust cover knows that the ones listed on Amazon are not for the Slim model....

If your looking for a perfect custom fit dust cover for your gaming console, then this is not the one you want however, dust covers in general are only suppose to fit around the device and that is exactly what this does. It is free standing and drops over your gaming console, and this is exactly the way I prefer, rather than a tight fit that can ruin the cover or scratch the finish of your device, (XBOX/PS3). I received the product on time and delivered by the post office USPS. It does the job because my house harbors dust and I don't want that in my XBOX. Although I dust every other day, this cover gives me peace of mind because we all know that when dust settles on electronics, the devices will run hotter and eventually overheat and malfunction. The seller is actually located in Colorado, and they make these covers for every device i.e. copiers, printers, gaming consoles. I am very happy with this 20 dollar investment that will protect my 300 dollar console! I gave it 5 stars as a dust cover not a game as it was asking me to rate.

Review of Viva Pinata: Party Animals

Viva Pinata: Party Animals
Customer Ratings: 5 stars

Okay. I'll admit it. When Viva Piñata first came out on the Xbox 360, I didn't think there would be much to it. Then I started playing the game and it quickly became my guilty gaming pleasure. I couldn't stop obsessing over these candy-filled critters.

So, when E3 rolled around and Microsoft announced a new Viva Piñata game on the horizon, an inner voice squeaked with joy. Then I heard that the game wasn't being developed by Rare, and that the game was going to be a new party game title cashing in on the franchise's popularity. It was about that time, my inner child cried and started to throw a tantrum.

Here we are now, months later, and Krome Studios' Viva Piñata Party Animals is finally hitting store shelves. While the game isn't a proper sequel to the addictive original, I've got to admit my inner child is happy once again.

First off, it needs to be said that Viva Piñata Party Animals isn't actually based on the original Viva Piñata game. Instead, it's based on the Saturday morning animated show that was based on the video game. Instead of random pretztails, fudgehogs, fizzlybears and horstachios, we've got Paulie, Fergy, Franklin and Hudson taking the spotlight. These stars of the animated series, along with their various female counterparts, are competing against one another in the biggest show on Piñata Island, the Party Animals Championship Challenge. Billed as the most unpredictably exciting--and not to mention uninsured--sporting event ever created, the Challenge pits contestants against one another in a series of chaotic races and minigames in the quest to be named top piñata.

Viva Piñata Party Animals can be played with up to four players, either on the same system via split screen or over Xbox Live with other piñata pioneers around the world. Players choose one of the eight selectable characters to take through a gauntlet of minigames. There are multiple rounds of competition, each beginning with a Mario Kart-style racing game. Races are single-lap free-for-alls, complete with hidden shortcuts and an arsenal of wacky firepower ranging from beehives (which litter the track with sticky honey) to water bombs (which soak the opponents' screens and obscure their vision for a time). These races prove to be extremely important throughout the rest of the rounds' minigames, as the winners get bonus candy points tacked on to their scores after each minigame event. The racing aspect of the game is a lot of fun, and something which I can see fans itching to see get the full video game treatment. C'mon Krome. Where's our Viva Piñata "Kart"y Animals?

...And I must admit that the online version of this game is one of the funnest online multiplayer games I have played on xBox 360!

Aside from some minor gripes here and there, it's hard not to like Viva Piñata Party Animals. Whether you're a kid or just a kid at heart, there's something special about the franchise that is almost as addicting as the sugary goodness that packs every one of these creatures. The wide range of minigames almost guarantees everyone will find at least something they like in the title, and I've yet to find anyone who didn't get a thrill out of the game's fast paced racing. Despite the fact I'm still waiting for a true sequel to Viva Piñata, in order to feed my gaming sweet tooth, Viva Piñata Party Animals does an excellent job of filling in as a between-meal snack.

I bought this game for my wife who loves to sing, but I must admit that I kinda like it too. You get to customize your own singer (which is part of the fun; I got mine to look almost exactly like me) as well as the option to design the stages and venues where you sing. The game has a mixer-type set up which gives you the options to increase or decrease the volume of the music, the crowd, the singers' voices and player's voice separately. The game doesn't require that you sing perfectly to get points; just that you hit the right pitch. There are co-op and competition duets for two players. If you are not in the mood to play for points, there is a karaoke mode that simply shows the complete song verses (instead of the scrolling words on the bottom in regular game mode) on the screen to sing along with just like a traditional karaoke song video. It is definitely more fun to play the more people there are. The only downside is the song selection; while my wife and I are bilingual and liked a couple of the Spanish songs that were featured, the others were not all that exciting. Plus, most of the songs from the 70's and 60's were downright boring. The DLC content from XBL consists of only about 10 or 11 additional songs. All-in-all, we have no interest in about half of the songs. I realise it's hard to create a song line-up that pleases everyone when releasing a game that is meant to appeal to the general public, but that's why they should've had more DLC songs available like with the KRAI & DDR games. Still, this is a fun game especially if you are a karaoke fan.

Just a word of caution as a side note, especially to all those who think 'karaoke game = kids/ family game': you may want to review the song list (which can be found on Wiki) before buying as there are several songs based on overtly sexual themes. For that reason, along with some light profanity, it is rated T for teen.

I am a long time follower of Karaoke Revolution. I have all of the old editions from my PS2 and was eager to pick up a few new karaoke games for my Xbox 360. I picked up this game, in addition to a game called Lips. Unfortunately... Karaoke Revolution let me down.

Problem 1: The words scroll across the screen VERY FAST. When you don't know the words to a song, it's frustrating. You can't read ahead (unlike it's competitor).

Problem 2: Some songs... you can't hear the original artist. I turned the vocalist volume all the way up.. and it was still quiet.

Problem 3: There are some VERY FAST paced Spanish songs on this track. I know we're moving towards being bilingual.. but we're not really there yet. And if there's going to be a song in a foreign language on there... it should be more common.. or slower. Combined with problem 1 for English songs.. This was unbearable for Spanish songs.

Problem 4: There were no available songs for download and no one online for Xbox live. This will probably change after the game isn't so new... but wasn't a problem for it's competitor.

There are some improvements to the game. There is a Party mode that saves all of the players who were in the party the previous time. We play the game for holidays with family and I hated setting up everyone before. Now.. everyone can have their own profile. Their name will come up and they can sing whenever. Removing and adding players is easy.

It doesn't kick you out for bad singing. Kids can finish their songs.. They won't get bummed and develop a complex.

Best Deals for Karaoke Revolution - Xbox 360 (Bundle)

I'm a big karaoke fan. My voice is terrible and people's ears bleed when I sing but I still love doing it. I've owned Karaoke Revolution and Karaoke Revolution Party for the original Xbox, Lips for the 360, Rock Band, Lego Rock Band, Guitar Hero World Tour, Guitar Hero 5, Band Hero, and other Guitar Hero titles, and now Karaoke Revolution 2009 for the 360.

So now I'm reviewing Karaoke Revolution 2009 for the 360. I loved previous versions of Karaoke Revolution and it's my favorite singing game of all the aforementioned games so I was quite looking forward to KR2009 for the 360.

First I'll begin with the microphones that are compatible with KR2009. Karaoke Revolution comes with the standard Logitech microphone and although it is wired, it's a very good microphone with good gain. You can singly quietly or loudly and it handles it all very well. I also used the microphone that came with Guitar Hero World Tour and it's also a very good microphone that is also wired. I would consider these mics equivalent and both work very well in Karaoke Revolution 2009.

Now many people also own the wireless mics that come with Lips. I so much want to love these mics because they're wireless, have accelerometers, and have pulsating lights. But the most important aspect of a mic is how it sounds. When I first got them with Lips, they sounded terrible in Lips. My awful voice sounded even more horrendous in Lips. In Karaoke Revolution, the wireless Lips mics work okay (and sound better than in Lips) but you have to boost the gain to max because they're not powerful mics. And you have to sing with more force than with the other mics. Now in Lips, these wireless mics were much louder albeit your voice sounded more artificial and often the Lips game added sound effects to your voice even when you didn't want any effects.

So now mics aside, how well does Karaoke Revolution 2009 play? I still think the Karaoke Revolution series has the best overall gameplay for a karaoke game. KR2009 has pretty good character customization but it's not as good as in the Guitar Hero/Band Hero games. The gameplay modes are great and there's a wide variety. If you like to sing, this is the game for you. The scrolling text and pitch bars are easy to follow. It's nice to now play in a game designed for a 16:9 screen. Karaoke Revolution has been a series that chose songs that are very good to sing. There are songs that are great to listen but hard to sing (for any number of different reasons including choppy phrasing, wild swings in pitch, etc.). KR2009 has a great mix of songs that allow an average singer like me to easily adjust my pitch on the fly during the song. I do wish that KR2009 had a bigger song list though but if they develop their online song store, then the song list won't be a problem. I will note that there are a number of Spanish songs on the songlist. I don't speak Spanish and while I do understand how large the Spanish-speaking population is, I don't think they should include them on an English-speaking game.

Now some of the problems with KR2009. The graphics are not dynamic enough. I don't mean just the background graphics, but we'll start with the graphics from the perspective of someone watching the game, it looks okay, but it looks like Xbox1 or PS2 graphics with higher resolution. Not ugly but not pretty either. Guitar Hero 5 and Band Hero look much better. But now the graphics as you're singing. In previous Karaoke Revolution games like on the Xbox1 machine, the arrows and the glowing effects were much stronger and bigger. They were easier to follow. The graphics of the pitch bar, arrows, etc. of KR2009 are much more subdued and harder to follow. It's harder to tell if you're singing in a zone for bonus multiplier, etc. I play on a 62" 1080P screen so it wasn't too big of a problem. But I can imagine trying to play on a 32" screen and thinking they should've beefed it up a bit. Subtle graphics are great for a first-person shooter. Not great for a karaoke game where words are scrolling fast and you need to keep pitch.

The career mode is weak. I can't get a sense of any purpose to it. Yes, career mode is not that important in a music game and KR2009 is a party game mostly but it would've been nice to have a career mode that was enjoyable or had a sense of purpose to it. The instructions are terrible. They might as well print no game manual.

So how does KR2009 compare to the other karaoke games? Let's start off with the games that are not pure karaoke: the Guitar Hero series and Rock Band series. As a singing game, KR2009 is much better because its games are more singable. Guitar Hero and Rock Band have mostly hard rock songs that are very difficult to sing with very snapping phrasing and little melody. Those songs are all about the music rather than the melody of singing.

Band Hero does have a few songs like KR2009 so it's easier to compare. for the songs that are similar to KR2009, I like Band Hero more because it has multiple ways to show the lyrics and pitch bar. I like the static karaoke of Band Hero. very easy to follow the pitch bar and the lyrics and very easy to sing to the game. If all of the songs of Band Hero were of the same vein as KR2009, I would find it a superior game. But Band Hero is a mix of Guitar Hero/Rock Band and KR2009 so there are far too many rock songs to sing. Also, judging on Band Hero is very lenient so sometimes, you can do no wrong.

How does Karaoke Revolution 2009 compare to Lips? I made a review of Lips so you can read that. to sum it up, KR2009 is a superior game in my opinion to Lips. Because Lips is more of a karaoke machine than a karaoke game. Plus Lips had a very difficult pitch bar and lyrics to follow. the Lips soundtrack is good to listen to but not a good song list to sing. And Lips makes my voice sound terrible. KR2009 makes a lot of people sound okay to great. Lips does look much better graphically than KR2009 if you're just looking at the screen while someone else is playing. The graphics are great and you often have a music video to follow too. But again, the pitch bar and lyrics are much easier to follow in KR2009 than in Lips.

But here's the problem. KR2009 has no to very little online songs to download. Lips has a big online store so you can keep buying songs to add to your collection. I really don't want to buy songs for Lips because I don't like that game. But if KR2009 doesn't develop its store, I'm stuck with Lips. And the Lips online library is really good.

So to summarize, Karaoke Revolution 2009 is a great game but pray that Konami supports the game with an online store with songs to download. Otherwise, if no store develops, my review of KR2009 plummets. Because the song list isn't big enough or good enough to survive on its own. The gameplay mechanics of KR2009 is too good to let it die a sad death. Let's hope Konami supports the game. Otherwise, if you're a 360 owner, you're stuck with rock songs from Rock Band/Guitar Hero. Lips is okay and I could learn to like Lips but I feel Karaoke Revolution is a better karaoke game.

I am not much of a gamer. The Wii has been my first game console since the Playstation a LOOOONG time ago. In fact, games usually bore me. Not this one.

The experience with the wii-mote is awesome. This game should come packaged with the Wii because it shows off just how wll the wii-mote can immerse the player into the game! Something like this would be utterly boring with a regular controller. But when you're swinging the remote over your head like a lasso, or holding a hose in your right hand and pumping with your left... or tippy toeing with your arms close to your body... or jumping rope or slapping bunnies with your backhand... YOU GET THE PICTURE. They really did this game well. It's so much fun. Tons of laughs.

We played the game ALL DAY yesterday and all night today and finally passed the 1-player story-mode game (unlocking all the multiplayer games). It was fun. We were very loud. Certain levels were very challenging and required many rounds with the controller being passed from hand to hand between the 5 of us.

The game has an excellent soundtrack. Graphics, I don't know, they looked pretty good. The bunnies were cute! The game is great for kids of all ages because there is no killing. You just shoot bunnies with plungers and they cry and go away! Hilarious. That's one thing about this game that will catch you off guard.. It's FUNNY. You will find certain stages, animations, games instantly hilarious. Fat bunnies running all over your screen, what more can you ask for?

I would like to highly recommend this game to anyone who wants to play Wii games with a party-type atmosphere. In all honesty, playing this game alone will be fun but might get old after a while. That's why single player games (like Zelda) have things like puzzles and mysteries to keep you occupied. This game is just pure fun with the controllers and reflexes and skills. I have a hard time paying attention to any game that takes more than 5-10 minutes per level. I don't feel like my games should stress me out like my job.

This game is mindless fun. We all loved it. Get it. Here is a breakdown of our diverse little party group over the past 2 days:

Aged 17M, 19F, 19M, 23M-s/w consultant, 23F-banking, 27M-engineer, 28F-project mgr, 34M-educator). This game really is for everybody. I think kids (

I played Agarest:Generations of War and I had to play this game. Like other reviewers say, it is quite similar to the original game. Although it only has 2 Generations instead of 5, The Free DLC Dungeons and storyline still gave me 120+ Hours of gameplay. The first playthrough is Normal and unlocks Extra mode to allow you to earn trophies and master the game the 2nd time around. The graphics are a small upgrade and a slightly better from Records of War. I was not disappointed and can't wait to purchase Agarest Senki 2 if it comes out in English.

Note-I've edited this review as a 4/5 star from a 3 for -justthe Limited Edition and not the "regular", though the actual entry can't be changed in the review system. Between the goodies thrown in with the box and parts of the game that are very very fan-friendly JRPG and original Agarest players, it's downright a better product, so this review is kind of with the more 'serious' player in mind.

Anyway, this is actually a prequel to 2010's Agarest War, though no knowledge of the first is needed. The premise here is, for all intents and purposes, the same as the original-a rather epic (in length) adventuring campaign with a very sizable cast of characters and villains that spans generational gaps beyond the years of the original protagonist, drawn out by his offspring that you have some ability to mold through your actions. Good versus evil, light versus dark, all that good stuff. Character offspring is the "hook" to the Agarest series, where decisions made in dialogue raise and lower virtual affection levels of heroines in a way akin to a stereotypical Japanese dating sim. Awkward for some players, certainly, but there are no 'right' or 'wrong' answers. The outcome is -muchthe same regardless in the end, but see below for more info.

The other major selling point on the series, for better or worse, is a rather intricate battlefield system that will certainly cause some head-scratching amongst new players. Team tactics play a large roll and using combined skills of all types add extra damage that's an absolute must as things get harder. There are ~150 skill combinations in total and over about a hundred abilities to learn/research, where the player is limited to only equipping a certain number at any given time. The learning curve isn't bad, but that's partially because of the massively high number of total battles.

Here stands a large point of contention for me, at least-even though the hope is for combat to never really be entirely the same and for players to use all sorts of fancy attacks, it all feels so, so familiar as you move ahead. Drone-like, in fact. As you'll be fighting hundreds of times against what are essentially the same 20 types of baddie, it can become very draining. The sensation of "can we get on with the story now?" can become overwhelming at times. For players of the first, the combat system is almost completely unchanged and has only a few minor tweaks.

Another now-heavily recycled piece of the game is the equipment and upgrade/synthesis type. It's tried and true over several games now, and though there's nothing wrong with the user-friendly upgrading system, some kind of evolution would be welcomed. The interface is bland, items are notoriously hard to find materials for, and names of weapons and armor are almost a 100% copy-paste.

Add things up and the end result is almost exactly that of the first Agarest with no fundamental changes, and only a handful of surface adjustments. The sheer length of the game exasperates this all, though it does make the game a pretty good value. I'm not per say disappointed, but I may have hoped for more. Zero is by no means a "bad" game for RPG or strategy buffs, but it lacks a spark of something that would help to call it "exceptional".

For anyone that enjoyed the first, there's no specific reason why they should stay away from Zero, at least if they know to expect virtually the same game with new scripts and fonts. The multiple-ending system is back, and although I'm sure there'll be a guide as to how to get absolutely all content in one play-through, there's a pretty obvious assumption that the player will go at least a second round on "Extra" (difficult).

If you're looking at this edition, you've probably played the first or know the JRPG market... in which case it's your call on wanting to throw on a little more for a few toys, which include soundtrack and a rather snazzy card deck with characters on one side, and another depicting the protagonist class and secondary trait cards as seen in-game.

The game is awesome and it's really fun to play with.

Although it's repetitive as hell and it's grind-fest game,

it's still the standard J-SRPG that we fans love.

Hoping to get more j-SRPGS in my collection

Most annual release franchises try to dazzle gamers by adding a few new features, to a roster updated but otherwise unchanged, game. THQ and Yukes are one of the few companies that seem to take their game back to the drawing board each year and rebuild from the ground up. Smackdown vs. Raw '07 is a truly an ambitious example of this trend and the end product is nothing short of amazing!!

By far the largest change this year is the completely redone control scheme. Though this can initially be very jaring to long time fans who have been using the same controls for almost a decade to play Smackdown games, it truly IS for the best. Each year THQ has been trying to give the gamer increased control over what moves their wrestler performs in the ring while still maintaining an authentic on screen wrestling matches. This year the right analog stick gives you more control over what AND HOW certain moves are performed. For example, in the past a typical turnbuckle move was to mount and punch a guy 10 times. This was performed by pressing the right combo of buttons and was followed by a canned animation. In SVR '07 you actually control how many times you punch your opponent by mimicking the punching motion and pressing up and down with the right analog stick. This may initially seem needlessly complicated but the on screen instructions make the appropriate button presses apparent in all environmental situations.

The season and GM modes have also been improved upon but to me the most exciting changes were done to the create-a-entrance mode. You can now watch entrances AS you make changes and you can actually control the timing on fireworks and camera moves!! WOW!!

The graphics and sound are as good as they are gonna get on the PS2. It's hard to explain but the moves seem to "chain together" better than in past games. For example, reversals aren't so obvious and thus harder to counter. You'll think you're executing a move perfectly until Oops, you're laying on the mat wondering what happened. The wrestler models are slightly closer to their real life versions this year. The commentary though, mostly the same seems to have been expanded upon for more action specific comments. Instead of JR commenting on the fact that you are beating your opponent, he'll talk about the powerbomb you just executed. The wrestlers themselves also make noise as well when wrestling (hooray for grunting) . The only negative criticism I have relates to loading screens. While this has always been an issue on the PS2, loading seems to take extra long this year (probably because of all of the improvements). In some cases you'll wait 20 seconds on one load screen only to go to the next load screen.

This years' installment of Smackdown vs. Raw has some high points and some low ones. First off, the addition of the "Ultimate Control" moves is definately a highlight; being able to hang up your opponent on the ropes, repeatedly smash their head into the ring steps and announce table are a few things that add a bit more realism to the experience which is definately worth mentioning. There is also the ability to take the fight into the crowd, although that feature is not enabled for all match types. Also, GM mode has recieved a facelift, adding the Power 25 from wwe.com to gauge how "over" certain wrestlers are and who could use a better push, and being able to hire writers to create rivalries for your wrestlers which in turn generate better ratings, as opposed to just starting one yourself by keeping two wrestlers involved in the same matches every week like last year is a vast improvement.

Season Mode and Legends:

On to the problems with the game, which I'm sad to say are many. For starters, season mode is an absolute bore, but is essential if you hope to earn cash to unlock the Legends in the game, as well as earn experience points to jack up your created wrestlers. Speaking of legends, was it really necessary to include all of Mick Foley's characters in the game? It seems that they were just looking to beef up the Legend roster and this was the easiest solution, much like including 3 different Hulk Hogan's in 2006.

Music and Commentary:

Next up is the sound. In my humble opinion, this series has been plagued with the worst video game soundtrack since I started playing with "Here Comes The Pain" Also, 90% of the in match commentary has been recycled from previous installments so you can expect to hear JR explaining Government Mules and Scolded Dogs to Jerry Lawler for the 1000th time.

Challenges and Match Types:

They have also cut back on the amount of trophies that can be earned as well as available challenges to complete which added a lot of replay value to the previous SvR games, so I was sad to see that cut back. There is also only one new match type included in the game; the "Money in the Bank" Ladder Match.

Controls:

Moving on to the "improved" grappling system. This has to be the most hyped up part of the game. In the months leading up to the game's release we heard about the new analog grappling system which was going to make the grapples more fluid and intuitive, but frankly it does the opposite. The game relies too heavily on the right analog and it feels very foriegn and takes quite a bit of getting used to. If you simply can't deal with it, switching the control to type D in the options screen should give you a feel closer to that of the previous games. They have also implemented an "infinite reversal" system where you and your opponent can conceivably counter eachother's moves forever, which is not the case because many counters are followed by unavoidable attack animations. the game also claims to discourage button mashing as you will see in one of the video tutorials, but it's still the best way to achieve a counter as the on screen prompts show up too late, and are non existant in the case of reversing finishers. If you are downed, a message under the HUD will tell you to hit any button repeatedly to recover which prevents the reversal prompts from showing up at all so if you're on the mat, you have no choice but to button mash and just hope for the best. In one instance, there was a match that had spilled out into the crowd, and Batista, once he had me down, did nothing but submission after submission after submission and I was helpless to counter.

Bugs:

I personally as well as many other people have experienced several bugs in the game regarding the announce team and the ring announcers, as well as some gameplay glitches. These are some of the ones I have experienced:

The announce team frequently calls out the wrong finisher being performed. For instance, Triple H will perform a Pedigree and sometimes they will call it a Twist Of Fate. Bobby Lashley will do the Dominator, and they will call it the Dead Level. During season mode, whenever you are at a cross brand Pay Per View, your match is called by the announce team from the other show. So if you're wrestling say at Summerslam, and you're a Smackdown wrestler, the match will be called by JR and King, but in the post match cut scene, the correct announce team takes over. There is also a bug in the game in tag team matches where the ring announcer will only announce the first member of a tag team and not the second member. Another thing is that the ring announcers never announce a championship match, I don't know if this is a bug or just something that was left out, but it's annoying. The commentators will also often refer to wrestlers who aren't even involved in the match.

One glaring gameplay glitch is in ladder matches, if you are on the ladder reaching for the belt, your opponent will sometimes magically appear at the top of the ladder even if they were down and nowhere near the ladder in the first place.

Overall the game feels like it should have spent at least another month in beta tetsing before being released. I should also mention that people I have spoken to that have played the game on Xbox 360 have not experienced the technical issues that I have on the PS2. When all is said and done, it's not a bad game, but it's not the definative wrestling title we were hoping for either. I'd recommend a rental before buying so you can see if the game's problems will ruin the experience for you before you go and spend 50 bucks on it.

Having played every Smackdown game to date, I pay alot of attention to new details of every new edition to the series.

I love this series and look forward to each addition every year.

If you're a long-time player like me, here are some plusses and minuses.

Plusses:

Hotspots are very cool. Easy to use and well-animated and also creative.

You can easily tear apart the announcer's table, use the cords, etc.

Also, like on TV, you cannot put an opponent thru the announcer's table without removing everything first.

The ultimate controls are nice. You can lift players up and slam them into lots of ring areas like choke-slamming them onto the exposed turnbuckle or thru the announce table. In Hell in a Cell it's great because you can walk them around in a held power bomb, chokeslam or even military press and throw them off the cell.

There are new unlockable title belts, like Austin's skull belt.

Tables are totally revamped. The animations of slamming someone thru a table is way better than just a "V" split. Tables now break and conform to the wrestler.

Ladders have many more grapple uses; you can position it horizontally in the corner and nail wrestlers 4 different way.

The new grappling system is not bad. It allows for more moves.

Counter system is pretty good. A slight step up from last year.

Storylines are very good and not repetitive. There are many of them and cover lots of PPV's, title reigns and show jumps.

The experience to build up superstars is fair, as you need experience, rather than 100+ matches to build up the teamwork factor.

There are nice additions to the grapple moves.

The create an entrance is revamped also and it's the best in the series. It allows automatic viewing upon every change.

Before each title match, there's a short animation with the ref holding up the title(s) to the crowd.

Sledgehammer and title belt attack animations are great.

Nice to see Steph and Shane back in the game, even if they're just season characters.

Glitches and flaws:

AI is horrible. Once you have gained 99 exp, there's no longer much challenge, save a ladder match, where that takes timing and accuracy to take the belt or briefcase.

Blood is not as good as last year. There's less and after the match in the winning animation screen, it disappears off the opponent.

Tat titles: Your tag team partner will NOT be announced and the belt will be horribly animated over their waist.

Announcer's have about %80 of the old commentary, save entrance and cut scenes during season.

New controls set up is difficult to get use to, but you can use 4 different type of set-ups. If you change to old-style, targeting is very difficult in multi-player matches, like Boney in the bank, where you have to be able to go for someone quickly reaching for the hanging item.

No weapons AT ALL in Hell in a Cell.

For a C-A-W's entrance, if you use an entrance pattern, other than a known wrestler, they will not enter carrying a belt, if they are a title holder. Ex. If you pick "Entrance 1" it won't work. If you set it to Kurt Angle, you'll enter with a title.

Voices for CAW are horrible and all sound almost like overly-juiced guys or bordering on monsters.

NO VINCE or NO CHANCE IN HELL theme.

No HHH "Bow Down to the King"

Only 3 wrestlers have different attires. JBL, HHH and (masked) Kane.

LONG loading times, especially for CAW matches.

Pinning an opponent can be done even if a wrestler is in the yellow.

Too easy.

Either the AI counters everything (and doesn't attack) or just gets pummeled.

Chairshots are not as good as last year.

Again, I don't hate on this game, I just think it's sad alot of these things slipped thru the designers cracks.

I think they focused too much on season and grapple system and hotspots that the ball was dropped on the little things that are what really make the game more enjoyable.

I haven't played online yet, but I am praying there are some patches they'll offer to fix these glitches.

I'd give it more stars if it weren't for so many small things.

The big additions do not make up for the many small losses.

Honest reviews on WWE SmackDown vs. Raw 2007 - PlayStation 2

Let's be honest. This game is great, no doubt about it. The features far outweigh the disappointments, but let's break them down.

The Good:

Amazing graphics, the cool ability to control every aspect of your wrestler, his image, his entrance. It's like being in the tv show itself, complete with storylines and interaction with other wrestlers.

The Bad:

The controls are just too tough to learn. Right analog, left analog, and heavy usage of both. Its also annoying to those of us who prefer the keypad to even have to USE the analog sticks. Now the keypad is annoyingly used only for taunting which can get your a** beat when you mistakenly hit it to move your wrestler. The constant usage of all buttons is a bit daunting. The first time you find yourself in a tag-team match and try to tag your partner you will know what I mean. First select, oops, no your facing the ref now ok, select again, ok, now I am facing my tag team partner. Dang it, the X button didn't tag him. SHOOT I just got a chair to the back of my head because IT TOOK TOO LONG! ---While I admit that they made ample use of every control option available, it's just overkill.

Overall, if you can invest the time in this game, you pick everything up. But the learning process is slow. Also, THQ why do you start the created wrestlers at an overall rating of 37? Man, how about a 50 at least? Talk about making this a demanding game to learn....

So i went to game stop yesturday just to look around and i saw this game. i remember playing the one on the nes and how much fun i had and im a big baseball fan so i had to pick it up. first they start off with all the training you will need for the game. this is for begginers or experienced gamers. you have auto where the computer does pretty much everything for you and you just run, or you have easy where you do a little bit more but still not everything, then you have technical where you control the whole field. of course hitting and pitching you always do. this game takes a little while to get the hang of. hitting can be hard sometimes but when you so get a hit or hit that homerun it is very rewarding. they also have powerups where you have a bar that builds up for all your good plays and you can use this to your advantage. you can rob homeruns you wouldnt be able to rob or catch balls you wouldnt be able to catch. you also have one star player who you normally want as your pitcher because when he buids his stats up you can get a star performace whitch pretty much guarentted a strikout or hit a homerun. i havnt tried all of the mini games but the ones i have seem fun. you can play up to for players, and battle in the mini games to. if you enjoy baseball and are looking for a fun game this is the game for you. when you go threw the world series you start from you league then reginals then the world series. you get skill points that you can give to your whole team or just one player after every game the disision is up to you. some of the trophies are easy but its not gonna be just an easy plat. your going to have to put some work in to it but all of them seem fun to get. you also collect traiding cards witch help you out during the game. you can play with 5 cards if you choose and each card does something different. one of them might be guarentted a ground ball, or guarentted to hit it down the line, theres even one to add another inning if you are in trouble. you can only use each card once during the game so use them wisly. this is my review for now and if you like little league baseball you will not go wrong with this game. if you have any questions feel free to ask

You will think this is a fun game when you first start playing it. I've played a total of about 3 tournaments or so, and they all had something in common. I would pretty much breeze through the tournaments; only losing 2 or 3 games, only to fall victim to an impossible CPU opponent during semi-finals play. The game would suddenly get extremely hard and frustrating to the point where the CPU would cheat in order to win. For example, I upgraded one of my out fielders to have a 100 rating for his fielding attributes. Well, he dropped an easy, routine flyball and of course the CPU scored and won 1-0. That kind of thing would not happen in the tournament, only in the semi-finals. Instead of making the CPU play better, they would make my team play worst. I was hoping the gameplay would be more like the original Backyard Baseball series, not so much..

I did enjoy building a team and customizing the players. After each game, you would get allotted 'skill points' based on how well you did. You can either use the points towards boosting your entire teams' attributes, or upgrade on an individual player basis. I do think it's a good game for someone looking to play an arcade style baseball game that's not as complicated as MLB The Show, it just plays unfair at times. But, for $12, what the heck do you expect?

In all, it's a fun game if you need something to do for a couple of weeks, just don't expect to win the World Series on normal difficulty :)

I needed a PS3 game that would acclimate my grandson (6) to the game before he started to play it. We realized a year ago that he had no basic grounding in the game itself, and since there is so much to learn, he needed to understand the game itself. People told me PS3 had few games for young children, but this one was exactly what we needed. Variations, levels, humor. I recommend this.

Reviews of Skylanders Spyro's Adventure Stealth Elf

Skylanders Spyro's Adventure Stealth Elf
Customer Ratings: 5 stars

She was one of the first non-starter figures I'd gotten, and I'm glad I made the choice. She starts off as a fast up-close fighter with fast striking abilities, with a secondary ability that acts part ways like stealth and part ways like deception with scarecrow dopplegangers (basically, she's a ninja elf).

Later on, you can either upgrade her to be either a better melee fighter (with nasty combo moves, better weapons, and floating blades), or make her scarecrows (typically a passive ability) more deadly (SPINNING SAW BLADES!).

She's very good as a playable character, overall. Only weakness is her defense (But do you expect a stealth character to have great defense? Really?).

Click Here For Most Helpful Customer Reviews >>

The Stealth Elf falls under the Life element. Her main attack is a close range almost melee like attack with her blades. The attack is quick but the drawback is how close to the enemies you have to be in order to use it. Her secondary attack is to create a "decoy" of herself. She projects herself conintuing in the path she was moving prior to activating the move. The player can see where she actually is by following the two glowing dots on the screen which are her eyes. So far all enemies I have encountered have fallen for the decoy. Using this move and following it by striking an enemy results in a "combo" move.

Best Deals for Skylanders Spyro's Adventure Stealth Elf

I am incredibly glad i got this figure when i did and for a little less than the 7.99 it is supposed to cost. Stealth Elf is now selling for nearly 30 bucks online, which is crazy. The little girl this was a gift for loved it and it is her favorite character to use. This is a fine product but beware online price gouging.

Honest reviews on Skylanders Spyro's Adventure Stealth Elf

I think there's a good reason why Stealth Elf is one of the more popular Skylanders. It's because she's so overpowered, that you could just press the X button in a pattern as you walk through the whole level, and you'd probably make it through without taking any damage. I'm not joking eitherStealth Elf is one of the most broken characters I've ever seen in my nearly 25 years of playing games. Orlandu from Final Fantasy Tactics, Fawkes from Fallout 3, Coo from Kirby's Dreamland 2? Yeah, she's right up there with them.

Stealth Elf's two basic attacks are pretty simple at first. Holding the square button turns her invisible (well, you can see her glowing eyes), allowing her to run past enemies undetected. The X button makes her slash about with her daggers, and you can keep hitting the enemy with this attack to create combos. The upgrade paths for both powers are good, but it's the dagger upgrades that make Ms. Elf an unstoppable force. On top of being able to power up the power of the dagger attacks, you can get ghost daggers that float above Stealth Elf at all times, attacking enemies whenever you do, allowing for even more damage. Simply put...the bad guys aren't going to have a chance to touch you, because by the time their attack finally comes out, they'll be dead. As if the ghost daggers weren't enough, an upgrade for this path gives her two more moves for combos. Press X twice and then hold the square button to shoot poison mist, or hold the circle button to do a crazy attack that results in Stealth Elf flying all over the place (within a small area), scoring multiple hits. The circle button on its own, once you get the power, does a jumping spin attack, useful for getting out of corners in the rare chance that this happens.

If you choose to upgrade the invisibility power, it just ups the strength of her scarecrowsdecoys that are deployed while you make your escape. These are useful in their own right, but kinda useless if you play against another person in the Battle Mode, and it pales to the dagger upgrades.

But you know what? On top of dealing insane damage, Stealth Elf also gets probably the single best Soul Gem power: healing. Yep, Stealth Elf will recover 5 hit points every couple seconds, making it pretty dang hard for her to be killed...more-so. The only downside to this is that you'll constantly be hearing a stupid sound effect when the +5 icon appears above her, but it's a small price to pay.

If you're having trouble with a level or boss in the game, or want to get that All For One trophy/achievement, Stealth Elf will take care of everything for you.

Stealth Elf was the first non-starter character I purchased and she's still one of my favorites. She's quick and once you get the hang of using her stealth and scarecrows you can really deal some damage. All of her attacks are close range so be aware of that and if you aren't use to using her you'll take some damage. She's my favorite Life character so far. Not to mention she's one of the more awesome looking characters as well.

Cheap XCM 360 Hard drive shell *CHROME*

XCM 360 Hard drive shell *CHROME*
Customer Ratings: 2 stars
Buy Now
First of all the only reason I am giving this the 2 stars is because once you are all done it looks really nice and they did do a good job with the chroming. That's where the complimenting stops tho.

Don't buy this unless you have a full Dremel kit and know what your doing... And I mean that. If your not handy with a Dremel and are not good at fixing things STAY AWAY FROM THIS!

When I opened it up it the top drive shell (the part you see) was not even fully snapped together. It was like they just slapped it together and threw it into the box. You have to carefully squeeze the sides and push in tell it snaps into place.

So the the next step is to take apart your old hard drive with the screw driver they supply and there is the next issue. They give you one Torx bit screw driver to open the case but not the bigger bit one to remove the drive. (I only make a issue with this because XCM says they give you all the tools needed. Which they don't.) They give you a chrome bottom plate too but I don't see the point. It was such a cheaply made thing and it would add a whole ton of work to it. All that for something you don't see when its locked into your Xbox 360.

After you get it all switched out and you start to put it all back together that's when you run into a whole mess of issues and you have to take your Dremel out. First there is this plastic bar that runs on the bottom of the top shell and XCM never notched it! This stops you from even being able to close it up! Then on the front of the top shell they don't have the little tabs above the locking pins shaved down enough. (That makes the locking pins catch and not fully come out.) After all of that (And these are small parts so you have to have a steady hand.) the release button is too ruff and unfinished along with the release button hole being to small and making it catch.

I am still happy I bought this because the finial result was really nice looking. But I would have been very mad if I that didn't know how to fix it. Because no matter which way you look at it this thing comes broken.

I am sorry my review was so long I just hope I can stop one person from buying this just to waste their money.

Rayman 2 reminded me so much of the old days where games relied mostly on fun. Rayman 2 has all the qualities of an old snes game coupled with great graphics for a playstation game although not nearly as good as the dreamcast versions. Graphics aside, this is truly a fantastic game because the game is just plain old fun to play. Do not, I repeat do not pass up an opportunity to play this game because of the character who is not very well known. Great game!!!!!!!!!

Click Here For Most Helpful Customer Reviews >>

First off, let me tell you that I own the N64 version of this game. I have no idea how different it is from the Playstation version, but you will need a Memory card to save your data. With that aside, the first thing you will notice from watching the story is that the game has excellent graphics(I was using an N64 Expansion Pak so I don't know what it looks like without it). The first level isn't challenging because there is not much to collect, and the level is just there to teach you some tricks. The next level, the Fairy Glade, is where things start packing on. The levels get very challenging, and are very long. You will also get in fights with some Pirates which can be very difficult, especially if you have little life. Soon enough, you will meet up with friends like Clark, the giant muscled friend of yours, but he is very sick after a battle, and you must go back to a part of a pervious level to save him. You will also get to free Globox who freed you and got separated with in the story. Another cool thing about the game is that outside of the text, you will notice the characters don't speak English, or any language for that matter. The gibberish does sound pretty funny though, and it makes the game more realistic. The only true problem I have with this game is the save system, because you have to exit a level to save. This can be especially annoying if you are in the middle of a level and have to turn the N64 off. All in all, the game is a blast, and a game your kids will enjoy, take it from me, I'm only 13 and I love this game. I think adults will also find it fun, because it's just one of those type of games...

Best Deals for Rayman 2: The Great Escape

A pleasant platform experience from the best of your dreams...

Plot:

Pirate robots have invaded Rayman's rain forest world, and destroyed its core. It is your job to gather the fragments of that core and restore it. All of the villains and most of the locales are pirate-themed.

Graphics:

This game was released on both the N64 & PSX. The N64 version supported the expansion pack, so the graphics looked much smoother and better quality than on PSX. The severely polygonal, retrograde graphics in the PSX version are terribly disappointing.

Otherwise, the graphics are something you might make up in one of your fondest dreams, and there is extreme attention to detail, in lighting and shadowing, like little fire flies flitting about and what-have-you. The water even looks nice and ripply, like you can see every ripple.

Machines are depicted in all of their smoke-spewing, oil-dripping horror, every grate made to look like a set of prison bars...of course, it is all supposed to be from a rain forest inhabitant's perspective.

Sound:

Dreamy and foreboding environments are backed with appropriate music. Most of the music is ambient, battle themes are reasonably upbeat, and they squeeze some chillin' jazz in there, too.

Voiceovers are done in whatever selection you make, English, French, or German. The French voice-overs are the best, and as a matter of fact, they are backed by English subtitles on the N64 version, by default.

Again, the sound quality is MUCH better on the N64 version than on the PSX version.

Gameplay:

Pretty simple, you have your walk, run, jump, hover jump...you attack by shooting or throwing spheres of light, Dragon Ball Z style...and you can lock onto enemy targets. The 3D aspects of the game add little to it, however, as the three dimensions are only useful in dodging attacks left and right, otherwise, the levels are linear and could easily have been done as a 2D side scroller without sacrificing any graphical prettiness.

Also, the level designs between the N64 and PSX versions differ...the N64 version has better level designs. For example, in the N64 version, the residence of the Water Deity is in The Temple of Ice and Water; however, in the PSX version, you find the Water Deity at Whale Bay...Whale !@#$ Bay! (How LAME is that?!)

Overall:

A nice platformer, especially if you can still get your hands on the N64 version. All of this game's qualities are best on the N64.

Honest reviews on Rayman 2: The Great Escape

The levels were toned down, but I still had a blast playing it. A must have for your nostalgia pleasure.

Rayman is,with SuperMario and Crash, the most important charachter of platforms. After a good game,"Rayman",he returns with a new episode,"Rayman The Great Escape".Fantastic! An incredible story, probably the best for a platform, not just for kids.Ray must defeat pirates and free every creature of his world.C'mon.Like Redman said,Time 4 sum aksion! This time our hero can swim, drive missiles,fly...he can boost his powers, praticate water skiing... an incredible evolution if we see "Rayman".Other force ponts of "The Great Escape" are certanly the musics, very suggestive and with a secret, strange flavor. For temples, for marshes...there are often good sounds created just for the atmosphere. The control is very easy,Rayman's movements can be ontrolled with the anaolgic joystick (L3) and with the good old arrows. Why haven't I give 5 stars to "overall"?It's simply. For the graphic.very good for a PS1's product, but if you want taste real "Great Escape"'s flava you better buy "Rayman Revolution",the same game for PS2.The graphic is fantastic and there are a lot of minigames. But we better remain on PS1."Rayman The Great Escape" is a really good game. The player can't be bored, action freedom is huge.Places are infinite,so how could you say "It's too easy"?There are a lot of levels, everyone has got a particularity.Every game's charachter has got an own personality, and there are lots of enemies and friends!

Amazing.To all the players.

First and foremost, Tom Clancy's HAWX is an "Air combat game" (at least that's what it calls itself) so if you are looking for a flight sim, this isn't it. That being said, my review is based upon the game itself, not the virtues/vices of it being a sim or "arcady"

Graphics: This game looks phenomenal. I have a 56" 1080P LCD and my jaw is constantly dropping. You will be flying over a variety of terrains and locations. Different times of day will skew color palettes, weather can affect visibility with clouds, and targets can be obscured by smoke. The terrain is incredibly detailed and looks wonderful even at close range...after you have unwittingly crashed your jet into it. Aircraft and missile contrails have that "puffy" look to them and flying into the sun is a great way to blind yourself.

Flight Mechanics: As I mentioned above, this is not a combat simulator. Hard banks and climbs do not kill speed. Depending on your difficulty setting your aircraft will take a number of direct missile hits. While this does take away from the realism factor (something Clancy games have been known for) it does make for a fun game. Even rookie pilots will quickly be flying low level and diving into "bandit" infested dog-fights. After several "training" missions which are used to introduce the player to the different aspects of the game (defend, escort, bombing, weapon types, etc) the game introduces the "Limit OFF" system (or OFF) in which the game is played from a zoomed out third person perspective. This mode allows players to "slide" their aircraft around, effectively making them much more agile (makes dodging missiles easier too). Opinions abound on this mode, but I found it a fun break from typical game play although lining up on a specific target can be more difficult. I recommend using OFF mode for evading missiles and getting your nose around on your adversary and then going quickly back to regular view mode.

Gameplay: This game uses a level scheme to unlock new aircraft and weapons load outs. Ever kill and achieving certain feats gives the player experience. Luckily the levels come fast and new aircraft abound. The aircraft themselves are beautifully rendered. Again since this is not a sim, most craft can (and do) hold several hundred missiles. This is a good thing since HAWX is a target rich environment and the player will be constantly tasked with prioritizing which targets to take down and in what order.

Since no one flys alone, the player has two wingmen who love to clutter the radio with chatter. They typically are talking about the plot and the mission, but will occasionally during a dog fight announce things an aware player had already seen a few minutes earlier. Not to say that the wingmen are useless, they just talk a lot. These wingmen can be given simple attack my target or defend me commands. My only real issue is that they seem to move at mach 10 whenever they feel like it and perform bizarre maneuvers to get back on you wing. While they will take down opponents if left to their own devices, it is best to take on important objectives yourself and let them cover your tail.

Each aircraft has individual stats and "bonuses" (if you will) some are good at engaging ground targets, others are limited in their weapons payload, each aircraft has a unique feel and a few moments of thought before selecting an aircraft for a mission will pay dividends. Trying to fly an escort mission in an AV-8 makes a mission a challenge, where a Mig-29 makes it much simpler.

The game give the player plenty of options to chose from, whether in aircraft, load outs, or how to approach a mission. The visuals are fantastic, and the fast paced gameplay will keep you glued to the screen. While OFF mode and the wingmen could have used a bit of tweaking I still feel this is an excellent game. But hey, that's my two cents. See you in the skies!

This arcade style flight combat game (as the review about me also pointed out, its not a "flight simulator") is incredibly fast paced and engaging. Though there are a few slow moments as you recieve a briefing while heading to the destination at hand, once there you will be engaged in constant dogfights, dodging missles and out-manuevering(sp?) the other bandits. The missions do range from Defend, Escort, Bombing runs but so far I found the majority as defend and escort, which is fine as it offers enough diversity in those missions to keep you both challenged and entertained.

The wingmen, in my opinion, dont do much other than keep the com line busy, shooting down targets on their own time. It's decent AI but nothing to write home about. I have yet to play this in coop mode, though I do lok forward to that and should remedy any problems you have with the AI wingmen if you have a buddy along side you.

The experience system (which reminds me alot of Call of Duty's EXP system) gains you EXP for every kill and in game challenge you complete and works for both off and online modes giving you new ranks (up to lvl 40), weapon packs, and planes (the box says there are "over 50 liscensed planes").

Which brings me to the second(the first being coop for those of you who were paying attention) and last online feature: Team Deathmatch. I havent thoroughly explored it but clocked in a few matches to get a feel for it (wanted to unlock more planes and hone my flying skills before I really hit it). From the matches I played I have to say that this is one of the game's best features. Its fast paced, balanced, and alot of fun. The TD consists of 2 teams of 4 locked in a dogfight. The twist is the match bonuses you get for a certain amount of kills (EMP burst, limiting them to a certain altitude repair-bots, locking their missles, and radar jamming) that can turn the tide of battle for either team.

In closing: I am extremely pleased with this game. The graphics are amazing the gameplay is immersive and engaging, the online capabilities offer immense replayability and the story, though predictable, is a decent Clancy story. I didnt give this game a 5 of 5 because I dont usually give any game a perfect score (a flawless game? Doesnt exist IMO), but this one came pretty close. I recommend this game to anyone who likes fast paced action titles (and doesnt mind being in a plane the whole time).

Best Deals for Hawx - Xbox 360

Let me say first and foremost, this game is very good. The graphics are very well done but in my opinion they're not up to par with early videos I saw of this game, which obviously weren't using game play.

As other reviews have noted, this is NOT a flight sim. There are weapons and missions in this game that don't happen in real life. But if you don't approach it looking for a complete 100% realistic experience, it's a lot of fun. Although, having said that, the realism is pretty close. It does give you a sense of what it's like to fly between buildings in a major metropolitan city at high speeds as well as dodge missiles coming at you from all angles.

The storyline of this game was supposed to follow the storyline of the most recent Tom Clancy game, Endwar. But it appears the developers decided to go a different direction. Gamers who have played previous Tom Clancy games will recognize CPT Mitchell from Ghost Recon leading a team of ground troops in the game. That little addition I really liked. I wanted to really make sure I helped out the Ghosts during each ground mission they were in because I'd previously played the Ghost Recon games.

Now, the bad, and the reason I rated this game only three stars. Ubisoft did not do a good job with the quality control on this at all. I experienced NUMEROUS freezing problems with this game, and they've been reported by a lot of gamers. It usually freezes on the title screen right when you press start to get into the game. I've also had it freeze on me during a mission briefing. Secondly, sometimes the audio during a mission briefing doesn't match the text, and I've also seen grammatical mistakes in the briefings, as well as minor things like spelling "defense" as "defence". To an American audience that's noticeable and the grammatical mistake I found is inexcusable. There are also game play issues that cause problems. In a heavy dogfight sometimes you will find your "fire" button unresponsive for 5-10 seconds after launching a missile. This would be no big deal and could be chalked up to an attempt at realism, but it's not consistent. Sometimes it'll happen and sometimes it doesn't.

On balance this game is a lot of fun but it could have been a truly amazing, great game had Ubisoft put some more polish on it. The graphics are good but don't live up to the jaw dropping graphics from early game play videos released after the game was originally announced. The freezing issues are just totally inexcusable and really color my opinion of the game.

Honest reviews on Hawx - Xbox 360

Walked into the game store for another game, saw this, played the demo and was hooked. At 42, I don't normally stand in stores and play demos, but this one just caught my attention. There are three in-game viewpoints outside, in cockpit and first person. The graphics were very realistic (in this case, scenario surrounded an oil refinery and the ground objects were quite detailed, as well as the opponents in the air), maneuverability was very lifelike with the controller (can also be used with a 360 flightstick, which wasn't available at the demo), layout of where everything was on the controller didn't take rocket science. I was blown away. I grew up playing flight simulators like the original Jetfighter and early Microsoft Flight Simulators and I must say that if you're a buff of simulators, you owe it to yourself to at least check this one out.

Only on mission 9 so far.

Just so people can identify with my perspective and my motive when purchasing games. I don't buy every title that hits the shelves, I'm frugal. However I do tend to own nearly all of the best sellers for the 360 platform. I'm a tremendous Gears of War 1 & 2 fan (1 better multiplayer because 2 makes the shotgun unrealistically bb-gun watered down), anyway, I loved Assassin's Creed--one of my favorites. I appreciated the new Prince of Persia, it's a rental though, I love the Call of Duty series 2, 4 & 5. BioShock...okay so now you see what types of games I like. If you like these, you might like this.

I've owned some Clancy titles, mostly the spinter cells and the first GRAW. I liked the 2&3 splinter cells on original platform. That being said this game follows suit for attention to realistic military detail, it's not flawless but it's pretty accurate. The story is pretty engaging, I'm prior military and love all things military, this storyline included. It's a stark prophecy of what could happen in the near future, makes it gripping like that.

Okay, the game itself. Initially, I HATED IT!! I am a huge fan of crimson skies and found the combat system extremely intuitive and very very advanced when performing maneuvers. This game is very close to a combat sim in the way the planes handle, the planes' flight mechanics operate on all three axises (X, Y, Z for roll, pitch, and yaw respectively). Yaw control is something new to me, but I've learned to appreciate it. So if you can get past the first mission and learn to appreciate the manual yaw control--you might find yourself really enjoying the game as it progresses.

Game play is pretty cool, there are different modes of piloting (2 categories described Assisted -ON or -OFF). In Assisted -ON (which you can think of like autopilot--the game assists your control of flight. I don't have much experience, I set expert mode from the onset of the game. In Assisted-ON mode there are three sub-views:

1st-person in the HUD-only view

1st-person in the cockpit view

or 3rd-person trailing view

Assisted-OFF

ONLY 3rd-person but it's not always trailing it could be from the side view, this is very difficult to which to become accustomed. I usually excel at games, any genre and found this learning curve exceptionally difficult to master. That being said, if you do master it--you will become extremely rewarded as your ability to perform potentially-unreal and agile maneuvers becomes a possibility. Dog fighting in this mode is difficult as another review already commented. With practice I could see this giving gamers a massive edge over online competition.

I found these aspects to be the most standout qualities of the game and I find the diversity to choose your mode of flight, weapons platform (you can select unique weapons packages/loadouts for each plane), and style of piloting (-ON & -OFF mode), to make this game stand out a lot.

I did not try using the voice-commands yet however I could see that being advantageous if it works properly. I took a cursory glance at the voice-command list and noticed that you can verbally select your missile or bomb type, this avoids the need to look at the corner and manually select with the direction-pad.

The graphics are exceptional from range, up close you can see the developers (particularly the artists) got lazy with the texture mapping for buildings, but from a range the landscapes and scenery are breathtaking.

The bombing system is AWESOME!! Freefall bombs are pretty freaking fun and the multi-target bombs are impressive to watch. There is a lot of realism to this game. My roommate is a huge flight-sim advocate and he comments on his approval. The unrealistic parts of the game are the munitions capacities, i.e. carrying over a 100+ missiles, et al. To me this is negligible because taking on an entire floatilla and several squadrons is fun. It's challenging and launches the fun factor into the extreme end of the fun spectrum.

The flight dynamics are very unreal in the -OFF mode but again, this makes the game more fun, the maneuvers you can pull off, especially with vector-thrust propulsion planes is AMAZING!! Very impressive and you'll feel pretty damn good about yourself if you pull 'em off to avoid a missile locked onto you.

The air-air combat system is kind of neat. You can just manually dog fight, i.e. just fly and engage targets as you see them come on screen or have them automatically selected for you by the radar but you have the ability to manually select your target and when you are trailing a bogey, there's a system of rings on your HUD that if you follow will place you right on your target's 6 o'clock. It's cool!

They use the same fly-through ring system for targeting ground units surrounded by buildings. Think the movie Stealth when the guy flies into sub-orbit and then plunges downward towards the skyscraper to give more velocity to his missile. This is kind of cool too.

*** FYI -you also can unlock the plane from Stealth which the human pilots fly. ***

I give this game an A+, it would get another + but the feel of the combat system is lacking something. It's not as intuitive as the combat system of Crimson Skies.

I highly recommend this game, but please purchase knowing that there is a high learning curve to become effective in the elite-level of difficulty for this game or for multiplayer.
