This game is fun and entertaing, for a while that is.. Its graphics to start, arent the best, but they arent the worst. The car models are pretty good. But where in the hell is the car damage, XBOX should have car damage. The towns you drive through look pretty good, and the story behind is not as bad as i thought. But the races are good, but after a while, it gets repetitive, you drive through the same city 10 times, its just in diferant parts, and its not that hard to win. It goes along good, you get differant kinds of races like pink slips and linear and circut. The Bad thing is in pink slip is, if you lose, your outa the job, NO, pink slip meens u lose your car, you should just lose your car and not your carreer.

Test Drive is a very exilarating game. All of the sorroundings can be interacted with. The only downfall with this game is that when you crash the cars that you hit go flying and you may aswell but the appearence to the car has not changed. The cars don't actually get damaged.

When i bought this game i thought it would be like gotham racing but with more of a variety, but i was wrong, it has less variety. No damage on the cars and the lighting sucks. Almost every level i have been to(which is as far as the 4th level on underground mode because i just gave up cause it was to damn long and hard.) is in the night which is anouying. Also you cant get a lead on the computer they are always right there. The cops are also anouying especailly when they pull you over right near the end of the level. Also the computer can knock you into oblivion but you cant even knock them off course, and characters are anouying, they say the same thing every time. This game isnt even worth renting and definantly do not! i repeat, do not buy test drive! Its an exspensive frisbee. In fact i am turning it into funco land.

In ways this game can be fun but in other ways in can be as frustrating as hell!.

First, in underground mode you can only race as two cars?!.

Drag races get pretty boring after a while.

Cop chases are great but why do you always have play as the cop,

why not be able to run from cops?!!.

Most of the music is good but some [disappoints].

And finally graphics are great, as usual with XBOX.

So rent it before you buy it.

The things you love about Test Drive and hate about Test Drive run in a dead heat. The action is fast and furious, the streets flashing by in a 100 mph plus blur is a bit of a rush but ultimately there really isn't much to look at, no check that, there's a lot to look at but there really isn't much to see that we haven't already seen in say... Crazy Taxi. Frame rates are solid but the landscapes are anemic and flat, the cars don't fare much better, feeling a tad on the jagged side with muted paint jobs and reflections. The sound is horrible, with some effects missing altogether, when you pile into a lamp post at break neck speed, there is no sound of crumpled steel, just an odd silence. Which brings us to a another major disappointment, car damage, like the sounds of destruction, there is none, not so much as a scratch or paint chip, no twisted fenders or one single dented bumper, which in the end makes Test Drive feel unfinished to say the least. On the up side however Test Drives levels are large and teaming with traffic and peds, the sense of speed is very nice and the controls are comfortable and easy to acclimate yourself to and the Cop Chase mode is a hoot but in the end there are better and much prettier examples of driving games out there, simulation; Project Gothem, arcade; see Wreckless and for a little of both we'll just have to wait and see how Midtown Madness 3 fares. You wont love test drive but you wont hate it so if you're looking for something different to drive around on your X Box this weekend (that's arcade style crash 'em up fun) rent it and save your money for something useful... like say, a cute poster of a kitty.

I received the wrong order in the mail. Not only is it the wrong color, it doesn't even work properly. I've contacted the company multiple times to have the problem resolved and haven't received any kind of response yet. I've since gone to a different company in order to get the controller I ordered from GeniusMods in the first place. GeniusMods not only needs to work on verifying their shipments against the orders before they send them. They should also work on their Customer Service. At this point I will never use this company again and will recommend against them in the future.

Barely passable as a usable controller, it has had more problems than any other controller I have ever had, short of just not working.

Pros:

Custom look

Operable as the regular Xbox 360 Controller

Cons:

Light ring only works on occasion

Rapid fire only works 25% of the time (I had purchased another controller along side this one and it has worked fine)

Gloss resembles the Microsoft attempt at Chrome controllers with the same result, it becomes too warm and is uncomfortable to hold after a short period of time

Absolutely DESTROYS batteries (Luckily I have 2500mA rechargeable batteries, but I still have to charge them nearly every three days. Again, the other controller I purchased from GeniusMods does not do this)

Buttons are too resistant and noisy (This becomes increasing frustrating when you are in a high intensity moment and you have to make sure you are HITTING the buttons)

Bottom Line:

Even though it has its flaws, it has a nice custom look and will play similar to the regular Xbox 360 Controller, with exception to battery life. This is a good controller for a girl/woman who seldom plays and is not expecting performance.

I never played any of the LEGO games before this, but always thought they looked like fun. They already have LEGO Star Wars, Harry Potter, Indiana Jones, and Pirates of the Caribbean, so I wondered when they were going to make LEGO Lord of the Rings. Being a HUGE LOTR fan, I had to get this.

For the first 2 or 3 hours, I was a little disappointed. I think my expectations were too high due to all the hype. Some previews were saying things like "this isn't just the best LEGO game, it may be the best LOTR game" and how it was going to be open world. One person called it "Skyrim for kids". It's not the best LOTR game...it's too condensed and too simple, and it really isn't what I consider "open world". Yes you can explore off the path and you can revisit locations as you wish, but you can't go too far and you can't for example take a different route to get to Mordor than they took in the book/movies. Some areas are fairly big while others are really small. Rivendell is pretty big, while Bree is like 4 or 5 houses, then when you leave you literally turn a corner, go over a hill, and there's Weathertop.

Once I got about 5 hours in though, I cast aside my preconceived expectations and began just having a blast. The cutscenes are HILARIOUS. I've laughed out loud so many times. It's a really fun game, and addicting. I like how you actually get to play as Isildur and fight Sauron at the beginning, and fight Saruman and the balrog as Gandalf, and get to play as FREAKING TREEBEARD and just step on orcs, and as Faramir and try to take down the oliphaunts! It covers the entire story and lets you play most of the memorable scenes. The fighting is a bit on the easy side (it's kind of like Fable 2 & 3 where you can't really "die", you just lose some money every time, which could have been used for buying new and better equipment), but there are puzzles that have had me stumped. It doesn't hold your hand and show you what to do.

As of this review I'm only halfway through The Two Towers, but seeing as how I haven't been able to find many reviews online I wanted to let people know how it is. If you're a fan, get it. It's a really good game and does the source material justice. There are little easter eggs in there that only big fans would get, like how Tom Bombadil is an unlockable character, and Peter Jackson makes a cameo in Bree (eating a carrot). I'm 30-years-old btw so you don't have to be a kid to enjoy this. Just don't expect "Skyrim for kids" or "the best LOTR game ever", but it's way better than most of the tie-in games that have been coming out in the last few years. I give it a 4/5.

UPDATE: I've now finished the Story Mode. It will take you about 9-12 hours depending on if you try to collect everything, but after you finish it tells you that you're only about 30% done with the game. Now you begin Free Play Mode and can now roam freely around Middle Earth collecting things and doing sidequests. There's also at least one bonus level (that I've discovered so far) that may be the best thing in the whole game...You get to play as Sauron, and the entire map of Middle Earth is now built out of LEGOs, not just the people. It's a lot smaller than in the Story Mode though. You go around with your mace and smash Minas Tirith, Edoras, Rivendell, Lothlorian, Bree, and Hobbiton into little LEGO bricks. The Mouth of Sauron follows you around as your companion. You can send the LEGO villagers flying with your mace...and there are sheep that you can ride around on as you spread your fear. So much fun. Anyway, it's a short game, but fun. The most open area in the game is Rohan/Gondor which is all one field but much too small for Rohan AND Gondor. You can see every landmark (Edoras, Helm's Deep, Isengard, Minas Tirith, and Mordor) on the horizon no matter where you're standing.

As a grown man in my 20's, I bought this game because I wanted something lighthearted and entertaining to play. I truly love LOTR, still own my Legos from childhood, and own several other Lego inspired video games and this game is already my favorite Lego game. For parents considering purchasing this game, be mindful that the game is intended for children 10 and up. There isn't anything vulgar or too mature for younger children, but I would say that some of the puzzles and objectives may be too advanced for a younger child to figure out on their own. However, if you willing to try the game for yourself, this could be a fun bonding experience.

What you need to know about this game:

1) Prepare to collect studs. Lego games consist of destroying objects throughout the environment to collect studs (think coins) that can be used to purchase additional characters, items (weapons, tools, etc), and unlocks that make the game easier (stud multipliers, quest finders, etc.) These characters and items can the be used during free play to access areas that were not accessible during the main narrative. Ultimately, this system adds a lot of replay value to the game, although it can be frustrating at times because it is sometimes unclear as to what character and item you need to access these areas. There is often a bit of trial and error.

2) Don't skip the cutscences. Even if you know the LOTR by heart and have seen the movies, it really is worth watching these scenes. It is nice that the the producers used the actual voices and dialogue from the films to bring this game to life, but what is particularly great about these scenes are the creative liberties they take. I couldn't help but laugh when the rings being depicted are bigger than the Lego characters' hands or to see Legolas comb Gimli's beard when he wasn't looking. Sure these things are highly ridiculous and inaccurate, but that is part of the fun of this game. Just enjoy it for what it is.

3) You can co-op with a friend, sibling, or spouse. My fiancee and I decided to join forces on this quest and really has been fun for both of us. The nice thing about working with someone else is that we can collect studs and find hidden items much faster because the environments are really large (arguably larger than any other environment in the Lego universe). The other thing about co-oping is that if we both want to go off an explore separate portions of the environments, the screen will go from a full screen (as long as we are close together) to a split screen. This is a good feature because you are not tethered to partner the whole time.

Drawbacks to the game:

1) During co-op, sometimes you'll actually damage your partner as you attack approaching enemies. There is no life penalty for "killing" your partner, but before they respawn, they drop a lot of studs you have collected that will need to be quickly recollected before they disappear. If you trying to reach "True Adventure status" on each level (basically collect enough studs to completely fill a gauge at the top of the screen) this can be problematic.

2) Split-screen can sometimes make it difficult platforming (jumping from one object to the next) because it can be hard to gauge distance and direction. If you fall off the map, you lose some studs. Although, there is an option where you can change split-screen to vertical cut through out the game which could make things easier.

3) The instruction manual for the game (provided in the game case) provides bare minimal explanation of the features of gameplay. Luckily, there are in-game instructions that appear at that bottom of the screen and statues that tell you where hidden items can be found. However, figuring out how to buy items, where to buy items, and how to get to where you need to go next can still be difficult if you haven't played a Lego game before. When stuck, you can always look up how to complete objectives online.

With all that being said, if you are a LOTR purist, then this game may not be up to your standards because it does not depict every nuisance and detail from Tolkien's tale, but if you can accept the game for what is designed to be--an entertaining way to re-experience Middle Earth--then this game is quite fun and worth owning. I am certainly glad I purchased it and I hope others will be too!

It tells the LOTR story that we all love with the dialogue from the movies and the music and all. It has a cool open world aspect where you can explore zones and do quests that I've not seen in a LEGO game before. If you enjoyed other LEGO games or are a LOTR fan you will undoubtedly enjoy this one too. Check it out.

I am a huge fan of LOTR so I was over the moon when this product was announced. However, I have to say that it lacks the simplicity of previous games such as Lego Batman. The open world concept is a bit challenging when you take in the epic story and characters. Essentially you play through the entire story in story mode, and then you may replay parts of the story in Free Play mode. That does feel odd since you are essentially taking other characters where they wouldn't have been in the books. But if you are enormously attached to the books, this game may bother you as it had to make changes in order to accommodate two players at all times. In order to have two players, new characters are introduced or characters may appear earlier than they would have otherwise. The story follows the movie closely, with identical voice acting.

Two of the standout parts of the game are the Ent battle, and when Sam saves Frodo in the orc castle. I enjoyed the novelty of the first, and the puzzles and humor of the latter. The game is rife with humor, a lego trademark. The earlier parts of the game are more of a visual delight, with the elf settlements and Hobbiton. I enjoyed the game much more in this earlier part, then when the landscape became pretty much the same later on. But then, Fellowship of the Ring is my favorite book of the three.

Following Golem through the swamps is one of the most annoying sections of the game, along with some of the battles (the oliphants!). Sometimes it felt like every battle was also a puzzle. Some of these are easier if you have two players, as when you play single-player, the second "player" doesn't play very effectively.

The interface is more challenging than previous games, since now you have inventory. It isn't always obvious how to access your inventory. There are many characters to choose from, and buy, but it's not always easy to figure out how to swap characters. Sometimes the character you swap goes into the player 2 spot. Some puzzles are extraordinarily annoying (certain jumping sequences especially) in a way that I don't recall from previous Lego games. And every major story scene had some annoying battle where you had to do a certain sequence of movements. After the first runthrough, one has no desire to repeat these experiences, especially if many minutes were spent trying to figure out what to do while being killed by a troll repeatedly. Once you know how to do it, there's no challenge it's just rote repetition. Ironically, it's more of a challenge than some previous lego games where battle is just button-mashing, but sometimes when a girl comes home from work, she just wants to button-mash and beat up bad guys.

The game does have lots of tips to help you on your way. There are infinite ways to achieve things. Again, this goes to the lack of simplicity that made previous Lego titles so great. The concept is that in addition to each of the characters having special powers you can also craft and acquire items that give you the ability to do things.

Definitely this game will reach a more adult audience than lego Batman, with the scope of the story and the depth of the horror. Lego of course makes it lighter and less violent than the original. I think that's why Lego chose to make the game more complex, complicated, and wide-ranging.

Overall, I will give the game three stars because unlike Lego Batman, I do not wish to replay every scene to get the maximum score and items. The massive scale and number of things to do overwhelms me, and I actually dread my son asking us to play it again. It just doesn't have the fun factor. We played Lego Batman for months. I don't see the point of playing this game for months. It's too big to appreciate the small victories along the way. it's too difficult to figure out how to replay previous levels. Overall, I just had trouble making the adjustment. Although I do play complex games on my own (like Assassin's Creed, Dragon Age, etc), when I want to play a game with my child, I don't want it to be hard for ME to figure out, because that makes it less fun for both of us.

PS3 Guitar Hero Les Paul Wireless Guitar Reviews

I'm a huge Guitar Hero fan. The design of this product is fantastic. But the responsiveness is where it sucks.

Let me explain why. It will work great for people on Easy and Medium. But when it comes to Hard and Expert, it will not be very willing to cooperate. The guitar uses a 2.4Ghz wireless USB dongle instead of the PS3's built-in Bluetooth (Great, I have to search for it if I lose it). If you have to strum up and down on fast sections, it will not register some of the notes. I can get over 600,000 points on Through the Fire and Flames on Expert on the Wii version of this game, but I can get only around 400,000 with the PS3 version using this guitar (Yes, I'm serious, I'm an expert player). It always doesn't register a note on the Intro during my 2-hand tapping and I have strum again to get back on the hammer-on and pull-off path. When I have to strum up and down on fast sections, it won't register some of the notes. (Wow, I wonder why this is getting so many 5 star reviews.)

If you plan to play on Easy and Medium the whole time, this guitar is ok. But if you plan to play on Hard or Expert, then I recommend finding a different guitar.

I have the GHWT kit and needed an extra axe. I picked up the Legends of Rock Slash les paul double guitar/game set.

The guitar is shorter than the stock GH guitar so playing it while sitting is painful because its too short for an average sized adult. It feels like your playing a child's toy.

The action is rough and laggy due to the sloppiness in the strum bar. The stock GH-WT guitar is beautiful compared to this guitar with the slider on the neck and the crisp quiet strum bar that is so much more responsive and quick to recover during fast strumming.

I really thought this product would be of better quality. With the Gibson name on the head I guessed Gibson quality would shine throughout, I was sad to learn this was not the case.

I'll be selling both les pauls on ebay and looking for a new guitar.

It took Red Octane to much time to get their act together and sell an unbundled Les Paul Guitar controller but they finally did. Guitar works great and I have not noticed any interference between the two guitars when playing multi-player. The addition of a second guitar makes this game even more fun.

Amazon also sells this controller $10 cheaper than if you buy it directly from Red Octane. The order process through Amazon was also outstanding. I paid for two day shipping and got the controller one day after placing the order. Great work Amazon and better late than never Red Octane!

No official licensed teams or players and no online. Hmm, sounds like a gutter ball from the start, but alas, when it comes to fun factor and just the joy of a quality video game, I couldn't put it down. Up front and to the point, I'm not a soccer fan and probably never will be, but I'm amazed how a video soccer game sucked me in like a tractor beam. As most fans know, Konami gave up on basketball and it seems they put all their time and energy into their only sports title for 2005, Soccer. Yeah, the name "Winning Eleven" is a stupid name for any game, but don't let the dullness of the name steer you away. The game plays brillianty, I don't know the rules or even the strategy for playing soccer, but I had a blast playing it. The graphics are stunning and this uses some of the XBOX muscle! My buddies came downstairs one night at my home and poked their head around the corner and asked why I was watching Soccer on TV, it really looks that good. The replays look like they were drained from sport center on ESPN, I've never seen so many seamless motion captured moves by the players in my life, players getting tripped up, gettin laid out, incredible kicks, dives, jumps, head butts, all amazing and stunningly realistic from start to finish. The staidums look amazing too, although the crowds still look like cardboard cutouts from the old Playstation days. If there was a bit of a downer, the game does not support widescreen TV's to the fullest, I want my 720dpi mode, but doesn't offer it. Darn. But on regular and HD TV's, most will be 100% satisfied with the offerings. As a single player game, you'll rejoice with the tons of mode offerings, but if you want to get the most out of it, find a friend and get hooked on one of the best multiplayer games ever. My friends were hooked from start to finish and will definitely be back for more.

The game does not have acutal licensed teams, uniforms or players, which means no famous names. But does anyone in this world really know the full roster for Brazil or Kenya? But don't think the game is unrealstic, every statistic and rating for the actual boys are all in tact here, just rub off the names and their actual uniforms. I think there is a customizable uniform option, so be sure to get some red while and blue for the good guys.

Flaws in the game? No online is a bummer, not sure why Konami would not offer that, but oh well, multiplayer still rocks and it's the best 2-player game I've seen come along in a long time now. The sound is just ok, the commentary is a bit repetitive and the music is atrocious, but the grunts and sfx on the field are great and the crowd roars like there is no tomorrow. Everything else is spot on, and this game puts E.A.s' FIFA series to the test. Thanks Konami.

I have played all of the North American W.E. games since WE 6 and I have to say that I am impressed with the consistent improvements that Konami has done with this series. Below is my review based off the PS2 version:

The Winning Eleven games have all had one thing in common: tremendous and realistic gameplay. Not only does WE 8 continue this tradition, but the game also adds on welcomed new features that compensate for the lack of online play and club licenses that is synonymous with the FIFA series:

On the pitch referee

When fouls are committed, you'll witness a referee run up to the play to either warn the player or toss out a yellow card. What makes this neat is that you have the option to select which referee will be the decision maker for your game. One ref that is not made available is Pierluigi Collina, who is heralded as being the best ref in the sport. That's a bit of a bummer but doesn't really do much to affect the game

Free kicks now involve two kickers

Yep, that's right. By using the select button (on the PS2), you have the option of using two kickers from the spot. This now only adds to realism, but strategy as well since you have more than one person at getting around the wall during free kicks.

Advanced moves

In previous versions of W.E. you had to be real adept in using the buttons to get around your opponent. Although you still need to be pretty skillful in maneuvering your man, you can use the R2 button to perform stutter steps and more fakes to get around the defender. Playing against the computer on the highest difficulty will show you how hard covering the AI has really gotten.

Improved AI

As great as WE 6 was, the AI wasn't overly difficult. WE7 was better at working on this but now, WE 8 has really added to this department. You'll find that if you play the same two teams 3 times, you'd be pressed to win all 3 games in a row. The defense of the AI has hard to get around unless you really are adept in passing well. As I said earlier, offensive AI is hard in its own right in that the addition of trick moves makes it hard to cover your opponents one on one, especially if the opposing player is a star such as Ronaldo, Zidane, Henry, etc. You'll also never score the same goal twice (unless it's a penalty kick). The AI is just too good in this game.

Improved graphics

This is easily the best looking WE game in the series. Although FIFA has been renowned for their graphics, I really think WE is not that far behind anymore. You can easily make out players such as Beckham, Schevchenko, Figo, etc. Heck, you can even witness Cristiano Ronaldo of Manchester United along with his huge earrings. Animations are numerous in this game as well. Players complaining, goal keepers trying to motivate teammates, players pushing each other after a hard foul was committed all add to the fun factor in this game. You'll even see dirt stains on players' jerseys after a few minutes have passed in the game.

Deeper Master's League

Although I have yet to try this part of the game, I have been told that this is the bread and butter of the game. Basically this is the part of the game where you take a team over the course of several seasons and try to build a dynastry (similar to franchise mode on other games like Madden). You can keep track of your players during the course of a season with player ratings fluctuating. Old players will retire at season's end and young players, with added playing time, will improve right before your very eyes. Previous W.E. Master League's have kept me busy so I'm expecting this year's iteration to do the same to me once I get to it.

Here are the few cons I found (PS2)

Commentary/Sound

Not horrible, but not great. However, once youre knee deep in games (which will happen once you play the hardest level), you won't be concentraing on the sound as much.

A bit of slowdown

If you have several players in the box, there's occasional slowdown but not bad enough to take away from the gameplay.

No online play. Probably the most "glaring" deficit of this game according to some. True, online play adds fun to games, but I always felt that playing a sports game with more than one person is best when you play your friends directly instead of over a broadband connection.

Overall, this is probably one of the best sports games I have ever played (Madden 2003, NBA 2K series, and SSX I think are on this level). Even if you're not a soccer fan you'll enjoy how much of a challenge this game will provide for you. If you are a soccer fan like myself, you'll be blown away by the realism this game serves up. And if you're a Winning Eleven fan, you'll be flat out impressed with the new features this game adds over previous editions.

As an avid football fan I was always disappointed with the repetitive garbage that I was forced to swallow from EASports and their Fifa franchise. Then...winning eleven 8 came out for xbox. I promptly discarded my previous fifa titles into the nearest trash receptacle and do not regret it (although I had a moment of weakness and bought fifa06 last week...that was a mistake). Anyway, on to the review.

Strengths:

-This is about as good a gameplay sim as you can expect to get out of any sports franchise. The controls are extremely responsive, and the depth of the tactical control and the myriad of types of goals that can be scored leave WE8 head and shoulders above EA.

-You have the ability to alter a player's exact position on the field (no locked in positions like fifa), their defensive or offensive mentality, the direction they will attack or make runs to, who they will man-mark, or rather what zone they are responsible for defending all down the very last inch of the pitch. The great variety and permutations this allows you to experience adds a great amount of depth and staying power.

-Couple the great tactical control with great gameplay and the formula is simple for a great game. Add to that increased gameplay depth with the various ways you can score goals (I consistently score with shots from outside the box, cross to header, cross to volley or side kick, breakaway slotted, breakaway hard shot, breakaway keeper lob and corner kicks...all on the highest difficulty level) Also, unlike fifa, you can beat players one v. one and your A.I teammates actually possess a brain.

Weakness:

The only weakness this game has is really in its presentation. WE8 only has licenses for the Spanish, Italian, and Dutch leagues...So I have to play with Liverpool FC (that's 5, get it right, 5 European cups) in all tomato red plain shirts which kind of makes the experience feel a bit hollow. Also, since they don't have licenses, you have to rename all the stadiums and all the teams in the game as well as some of the players for 'other' teams, such as Boca Juniors (It may seem a painful task, but you can get lists on the internet that help). Lastly, the menus, music and other GUI elements are quite poor (the pokemon music drives me crazy).

Don't put too much weight into my tirade at the end there about the GUI as it only slightly distracts you from the overall beautiful experience of the beautiful game that can only be brought to you by Konami and their Winning Eleven Masterpiece.

This is the best soccer game out. Way better than Fifa. The only thing bad,which i could care less about is that the jerseys are wrong and the team names arent right(Barclays Premier) Who Cares tho. Say EA, what??? EA sports with their fifa does not come nearly this game. First of all, the graphics are great and you can play the game in third person view (you have to unlock this feature). Briefly, the PS3-250 is the exact original PS3 'Slim' with a twice as large hard disk.

I had the opportunity to actually see and use a PS3-250 on the Sunday prior to its launch. As I expected, the only difference between the ps3-250 and the PS3-120 is the larger disk with everything else the same. Many reviews of the PS3-120 are HERE.

Once the decision was made to get a PS3, 2 important questions might be:

Which model to buy? PS3-120 or PS3-250?

To upgrade or not to upgrade to a 500/640GB PS3?

Based on personal experience and the experience of other PS3 owners that I know, the options are the following remember, these are my views:

PS3-120, no upgrade

---------------------

Buy a PS3-120 and do not upgrade if you use it mainly to play movies and you rarely download games from the PSN store. It will take you very far and it should have sufficient room for storing thousands of pictures and a lot of music besides it playing Blu-ray content and CDs.

I found that 120GB would not be enough for me. After a couple of years of use, with a few downloaded games, many more demos, lots of pictures and songs and some videos the kids made with the PS3 Eye we've breached the 120GB threshold. I would not worry about that if all I wanted was one of the better Blu-ray players. In addition, anybody comfortable with backing up/restoring the PS3 and upgrading the disk can postpone the upgrade step for later.

PS3-250, no upgrade

Buy a PS3-250 and do not upgrade if you do plan to download a few movies and games but not a lot of them AND/or you don't feel comfortable with upgrading your PS3 yourself.

Anyone who is not an almost-exclusive movie viewer and doesn't want to mess with screws and OEM disks should buy the PS3-250. It should have enough capacity to last for quite a few years with good disk space management (delete the demos and downloads you no longer need).

PS3-120 upgrade to 500/640GB

Buy a PS3-120 and upgrade it to 500/640GB IF you don't mind swapping the PS3's disk. You get to upgrade your PS3-120 to quadruple capacity for very little expense and probably for less than a PS3-250 would cost you (see next paragraph). This should buy you peace of mind for the rest of your PS3's lifespan.

Keep in mind that a 500GB HDD such as the 500GB Scorpio Blue Mobile Sata 5400RPM 8MB 2.5IN or the Western Digital 640 GB SATA OEM Notebook Hard Drive WD6400BEVT (Scorpio Blue) if you don't mind the extra expense can be had for about 90 dollars at the time I am writing this. That would make a 500GB upgraded PS3-120 appear a little more expensive than the PS3-250 BUT you are left with a brand-new 120GB HDD (the drive originally in the PS3) when you are done and you can either sell it or use it as an external USB-powered backup drive or maybe to upgrade your laptop's drive. This would effectively set the price of the 500GB upgraded console to match that of the PS3-250.

PS3-250 upgrade to 500/640GB (not recommended)

Do NOT buy a PS3-250 if you are planning to upgrade it to 500/640GB unless you really need a spare 250GB external HDD instead of a spare 120GB HDD and think that the price difference is worth the larger spare drive.

EVALUATION

The PS3-250 while not for everyone, deserves its 5 stars. In my view, there is enough value added by doubling the storage capacity to justify the price difference over the PS3-120.

NOTE: If you want to upgrade you are better off if you upgrade immediately.

This way you avoid the backup/restore hassles and therefore greatly simplify the process. I would include the upgrade HDD on the same order with the new PS3 and maybe add a HDD enclosure if planning to use the drive I removed from the PS3 as an external drive.

I had no idea which unit to buy, the 120 or the 250 GB Playstation 3. I ended up with the 250 out of fear that the 120 would leave me desiring more space later. If you don't know anything, here is what I see so far. On the Playstation network, you can download game demos and marketing videos for games free. I haven't found myself doing this a lot yet. Of course, you can also delete them easily after you watch them.

Most playable games even old ones cost to download so I have decided to just buy a couple of the popular ones and am hooked on those and the stunning DVD and Blu Ray movie quality for now. You are not going to be able to download games like Modern Warefare 2 to your hard drive from the PS network that I can see. WHen you buy a game at the store or here on amazon in disc format, you have to install it first. This may take some hard drive space. So far, one game I have takes nearly 3 GB and another takes up less than 1 GB but the games also called for an update download which I don't know how much space that took. At this rate, you could install maybe 100 store bought disc format games.

Playing movies on disc doesn't seem to take hard drive space. You can download movies from the Playstation network. If you do much of this, I image you'll need more space but the movies I was interested in cost the same amount to buy from amazon or wal-mart as to download so if you can wait to go to the store or recieve a package, you don't need to download it. You can rent movies also. I imagine this is a download that is disabled after a time period or after it is viewed or something. You can also download TV shows like "The Office" for $2 an eposode. If you want to do a lot of that, maybe the bigger HD is a good idea.

I am thinking you would do well with just the 120GB unless you know you are going to make a collection of movies and TV shows and low priced downloadable games on your Playstation.

You can also save photos on the Playstation as well as video. If this is part of your plan, well again more space may help. The PS3 has USB ports where I believe you could load photos and home movies from to view on your TV.

You can also access your applications on the www like facebook.

Bare in mind that there are a lot of folkes out there with older PS3's that have only 40 and 80 GB drives who love their playstation and don't feel the need for the 250 GB drive.

I don't feel upset that I spent the extra $50 to get the larger drive because it might be useful later, but if I knew then what I know now, I would have been comfortable buying the 120 for my purposes which is playing a small number of games (not a small amount of time, just a small number of games because they cost a lot) and watching some Blu Ray movies.

If you still find it hard to make a decision, ask yourself if you want to spend more money because both models are the same except the HD size which you can upgrade later. By the time you buy the unit, HD cable, a game, maybe another controller and remote control for Blu Ray, you'll be in deep on the expense and maybe another $50 isn't acceptable.

It is a very good and fun product. After I spent all the money on what I needed, I debated on hooking it up or sending it back because it was a lot of money; I'm very glad I hooked it up and delt with the expense. It is everything I hoped.

Best Deals for PlayStation 3 250GB System

Prior to getting the PS3, we had a Sony BluRay player, an Apple TV and a PC hooked up to our Sony Bravia LCD TV. PC was used for Netflix and backing up the Apple TV, Apple TV was used to rent and buy movies, and the Sony BluRay Player simply played BluRay DVDs. After learning about the functionality of the PS3, I was sold.

We've had it for about 2 weeks now and I am ever impressed with it's capabilities and quality. Keep in mind, this is the first type of gaming system like this we've owned (we do have a Wii but I put this in a different class). Here's my take on the various functions and their quality, smoothness and quickness of processing/playing.

Gaming Amazing quality with no hesitations at all (playing Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2) and I've been playing quite a bit since we first got it. Like the Wii, you can download old games like Mortal Kombat II and new ones for PS3 and the PSP. Initially, I didn't think I was going to play that much but the graphics and the games have been really cool. Not much of an online player at the moment but it seems that most have this option available. Even Mortal Kombat II. You can create user profiles on the PS3 which automatically link to saved game data. Automatic and very nice. Create additional users so they can advance at their own pace.

BluRay Discs load quicker than the Sony BluRay player we bought about 9-12 months ago. Thoroughly impressed with the quality of the picture. You can also play older discs and they'll work just fine.

Netflix You'll need to get a disc from Netflix to be able to do this. We've watched Instant Watch movies via PC/Internet on our TV and the quality wasn't too bad. I say acceptable and sometimes the movie would freeze for a few seconds. On average about two freezes per movie. We were expecting the same thing via the PS3 but were dead wrong. The quality is AMAZING and there has not been one hiccup in the video. This really impressed us...and I'm a picky so don't take that compliment lightly. :)

Renting/Buying Movies/Shows via PlayStation Store Lots of shows available for viewing, including the current season of whatever season you're into. We don't rent these but it's nice to know we can in case the DVR gets goofed up for some reason. As for movies, the files are larger compared to Apple TV/iTunes downloads but with this the quailty is much better. HD movies are available but they're pretty big, about 6 GB! If you're buying movies then it's worth the wait and the extra 5 dollars. SD movies are still good quality for basic rentals. However, if you have a good cable connection you may want to rely on your On Demand Rentals to bypass waiting for long HD downloads. Again, PS Store is good for purchases and I encourage it to save on materials/resources...go green where you can. :) Only downfall with buying/renting movies this way is that the files don't have chapter markers so you can advance through sections of the movie like you can with a DVD. Hopefully they change this.

Internet If you need to access the web you can but you'll probably want to pick up the Logitech keyboard to do this. The speed of browsing isn't too fast and the viewing area isn't the largest. I'll walk over to my computer to do a search rather than use the PS3.

Photos/Music Depending on your computer setup (Mac or PC) you may need to get some additional software in order to turn your computer into a media server. Then, through your wireless network you can access the music and play it through the PS3. Same goes for photos...or you can load the photos onto the PS3 directly, same goes for the music. Really amazing features but take a little research on what file formats are compatible, etc.

PS3 Backup With an external drive attached, you can back up the PS3, which is great.

Overall, I say go for the 250GB if you're into being green like me and wish to download games, movies and load photos and music. This device is truly an all-in-one and like I said, I'm picky. Not to mention I understand technology pretty well. If, after taking a realistic inventory, you will use all or the majority of the services, grab one of these suckers. I'd also recommend going Sony for your TV and surround sound. They all work really well together.

I purchased a PS3 60 GB model at launch back in November 2006. I have loved everything about it ever since. I even upgraded the hard drive to a 250 GB hard drive about a year and a half ago.

Why did I choose to purchase this new, slim, 250 GB model?

Honestly, it's a great deal for what you get. It's cooler (temperature wise), more energy efficient, and it takes up MUCH less space than my previous model. (Not to mention the much nicer, matte black finish as opposed to the older piano black finish which is a scratch/fingerprint magnet.)

Thinking about the new 120 GB vs. this 250 GB model? Maybe this will help:

Originally, I had planned to buy the 120 GB model and upgrade to a 250 GB or 320 GB hard drive myself. However, at the $349.99 price point, there's no need to perform the upgrade myself. For a quality Western Digital or Seagate 250 GB hard drive, you'll be spending anywhere from $50 to $70 plus shipping and/or tax, and for a 320 GB hard drive you'll be spending upwards of $75. Honestly, there really isn't any reason for that with this model. Why go through the hassle when Sony offers a great package at the perfect price point?

I for one am happy with my purchase which I received today from Amazon and am happily inagurating it with the GI Joe: Rise of Cobra blu-ray. For almost anyone that I can think of, the 250 GB hard drive will be more than enough space. However, should the need arise in a year or two (or three), a 500 GB hard drive will be dirt cheap and easy enough to install.

By now, the PS3 has been extensively reviewed and this latest iteration (the "slim") has been out in the 120gb format for 2 months now (since September 1st, 2009).

To summarize the benefits:

Slimmer, lighter, and more energy efficient than the prior "fat" PS3

Blu-ray player built-in

Netflix streaming (yay!)

Free online service (vs. subscription based X-box live)

The negatives:

No backwards compatibility with PS2 games

Bluetooth remote only (and not included, so need to purchase a remote to use as a dvd/blu-ray player, no IR (but a number of bluetooth-to-IR solutions like Logitech Harmony Adapter or Infra-red to Bluetooth Adapter)

No more Linux support

With Blu-ray player prices now dropping to the $100-$150 range, the PS3 makes for an expensive option as a Blu-ray player only. As a home media center player/HTPC device, it really shines and is a great deal (you can't build a HTPC with a blu-ray player for less). It IS somewhat limited, however, as a HTPC as its browser is not up to par. Too bad Sony dropped linux support for the PS3. The addition of Netflix streaming (currently requiring a disc but supposedly becoming native in a future firmware update) just ices this cake.

edit to address the HD upgrade issue:

Yes, you can buy the 120gb for $50 less and, yes, you can install whatever capacity 2.5" hard drive you'd like fairly easily as long as you're willing to pay for a new hard drive. BUT, considering that (1.) you'd still have to spend extra money (more than the $50 difference), (2.) spend time and effort to upgrade and (3.) you'd then have an extra 120gb hard drive afterwards to go through the hassle of ebaying (unless you turn it into another usb/backup drive--I've got too many as it is). I find that it is just not worth it. Spend the extra $50, get the 250gb installed by Sony and warrantied by Sony.

Best Xbox 360 Guitar Hero World Tour Guitar Kit Deals

I always preferred the Guitar Hero guitar to the Rock Band guitar (play-wise anyway) but the quality of the Guitar Hero guitars is weak. GH3 guitar had problems with the connection between the neck and the body. That has been fixed with GHWT, but the new one lacks in new areas. Mostly the strum bar. Occasionally mine registers extra hits (RedOctane's fix is to "hold" the strum bar and not "strum or flick"). Also, it will occasionally not register strums at all (My solution to that problem is to smack the body of the guitar with my palm, which I shouldn't have to do at all). And, probably the most irritating thing, my strum bar feels like it's rubbing against something on the up-strum, which throws my flow off just enough to miss notes.

I've done some research and I'm not the only one having these problems. GHWT would be an awesome game if the guitar wasn't crap. I highly recommend GHWT if you have a guitar the works properly.

Hopefully they can get it right, because the guitar feels good in my hands, except for these couple problems.

Beware, the online reports of the instruments working fine, and then getting worse to the point that they don't work at all eventually are true. My guitar was perfect, then the second week it stopped working entirely.

Activision's repair policy is terrible also. They won't even shell out a few bucks to ship their defective merchandise back to them.

Go with Rock Band 2: not only is the game better, but if you have a problem with the equipment EA is gracious and will replace it in a much more respectable fashion.

Best Deals for Xbox 360 Guitar Hero World Tour Guitar Kit

This review is for the Guitar/Game combo of Guitar Hero World Tour. Without getting into all the fanboy arguments about which came first, who owns who, and which game is ripping off the other; Guitar Hero World Tour is just not as good as Rock Band. Graphically it's better in that the characters are brighter, clearer, etc...though they still remain oddly cartoony. It's almost creepy when you see Jimi Hendrix because he looks so real yet animated at the same time. It's weird. As far as gameplay goes (and this is again only for the guitar aspect of it) it's definitely easier than Rock Band 2. More on par with Rock Band 1. I walked through it on expert without failing any songs up until the last set. To me that's not a bad thing since songs that are annoyingly difficult are absolutely no fun to play. The new guitar is pretty cool too. The touch pad way down on the neck makes solos INFINITELY easier to play when applicable. And I have never had any trouble with my guitar being faulty (ie failing out of a song before it starts like some people claim). The biggest knock against this game is the song selection. First of all, a bunch of the songs are straight from Rock Band 2. And I'm not saying it's a game of copying, it's just that Rock Band got to the market first and it just looks bad when you have the exact same songs. The song selection overall is not as fun as Rock Band 2 either. But that's just personal preference. I gave the game 4 stars because it's really not a bad game at all, I just think that the song selection, note charts, and presentation of Rock Band 2 is better. But if you've played Guitar Hero and really liked it, there's no reason not to pick this one up. I just haven't played it since I beat it...and I'm still playing Rock Band 2 almost nightly.

If you already have a guitar controller, but want a new one, don't bother getting this package. Just get the game by itself and go find a better controller. The switches that control the strummer in this guitar are crap. Mine died within two weeks. They are not hard to replace though if you are handy with a soldering iron.

If you are looking for a starter bundle for Guitar Hero, start with the GH III wired controller bundle. That controller can take a beating.

Overall it's a fun game, but not my favorite. GH III & V are better IMO. Worth picking up if you don't have it yet, but if you're just starting off, grab a different one first.

Got the guitar bundle from Amazon a few weeks back, and the guitar had a broken strum bar right out of the box. It dropped some notes at first, and got even worse after a few hours.

I tried to get an RMA for the guitar, but after over a week of dealing with Red Octane's terrible replacement request website and Activition's automated phone system, I ended up with over half a dozen automated e-mail responses and was still no closer to getting a working guitar.

I have since returned the bundle to Amazon and haven't looked back.

In contrast, when I bought a Rock Band 1 bundle last year, the guitar was also broken out of the box. After 15 minutes on their web site, I got a replacement guitar shipped to me that arrived in less than a week, and still works to this day.

If you are choosing one or the other, I would definitely go with Rock Band. Both their customer service and the games themselves are of a much higher quality than these newer Guitar Hero releases.

This is a good game for ages 8 and up. Although it might catch the attention of younger kids, it might be a bit too creepy and scarry for them. I say this because different than just watching the movie, your in control of the character's every move and there are many unknown nooks and crannies to look through which have unexpecting outcomes (The spooky music and sound effects don't help either). An example of what I am saying is such, I have a 5 yr old son and a 7 yr old daughter, they like to watch when I play the game but don't want any part of the control for themselves. More than half the time the end up leaving the room while I keep playing.

Remember Turok: Dinosaur Hunter? One of the original launch titles way back when for the Nintendo 64, Turok enjoyed a solid series of FPS' over the next few years, and then just vanished (mainly thanks to then publisher Acclaim going under). Well, Turok is back in action and in familiar settings, as he takes on baddies, mutants, and of course, dinosaurs. The game gets off to a great start as you are fully engulfed in Turok's dangerous environments, but sadly it doesn't take too long to see just what all Turok has to offer. The redundant enemies, areas, and an overall feeling of the linear are fully on display with Turok, which offers little in the way of surprises after you first put some time into the game. Graphically speaking, Turok gets the job done, but you'll play far better looking FPS' on the XBox 360, and the texture glitches don't help the cause here either. Flaws aside, Turok has a fair share of good points as well: the game's musical score is fantastic, there is a very nice assortment of weapons and are implemented quite well, the dinos look and sound good, and co-op and multiplayer options are solid. All in all, you'll certainly play better FPS', but for what it's worth, Turok is a fun, albeit flawed, shooter that is better than the sum of its parts.

I have been playing Turok since its initial launch on the N64 to its evolution to the PS2 and X-Box. I was rather upset when the game just disappeared when Acclaim went under. Let me tell you, when I first heard of this new Turok coming out I was even more excited than I was when Halo 3 was released. I waited and watched for this game as its launch date approached nearer and nearer and the moment it was released to the public I purchased it, and I was happy with what I saw.

Graphics: Although they were not the best graphics I've ever seen they were still very beautiful to look at. It seemed that the game designers concentrated more on the characters than on the background, a fatal flaw for most games, but I found that I did not mind as the gameplay was extremely intense. The backgrounds of the game, while extremely visually appealing, are very similar in nature. As you progress through the game you will only come across green, brown, yellow, yellowish-brownish-green, gray, blue, and grayish blue. Each background area is beautiful, but they are all essentialy the same. Now we reach the dinosaurs, the true stars of this game. Each dinosaur was created with such painstaking detail that it almost hurts me when I realize that I must kill them. Something that I really liked was the appearcne of blood on the dinos. The more you shoot them, the more blood paints their skin.

Graphics Overview: The dinos are amazingly done, the humans were well done but could have been better, and the backgrounds are very beautiful but repetitive. 4/5

Sound: In the jungle you can't always see what's stalking you, so you have to open your ears and listen lest you find yourself pinned to the ground with fanged jaws closing around your neck. The sound is very well done in this game. From the slight rustle you hear in the leaves to the low Boom of an incoming T-Rex approaching your position. Though you know what is coming, you still feel a sense of encroaching fear. The music is average at best. Quiet music plays during areas you need to be stealthy for and an intense piece of music plays while you either run for your life from Mama Scarface (the T-Rex) or are caught in a large scale Firefight when you are outnumbered by 20-1. The music isn't the best but it's placed in the appropriate areas, and although it doesn't hurt the game, it doesn't help it either.

Sound Overview: The sounds made by dinos as they move toward you are scary and very well done but the music is par at best. 4/5

Gameplay (Single Player): The single player campaign is fun, but it's far to short and way to frustrating (for some people). The beginning of the game is very easy and straight forward, if you see something you kill it. 'Nuff said. If a dino attacks you, pull out your knife and stab it in the head, say "Holy crap, that was awesome," then continue on and do it again when you see another dino. The knife becomes little more than an instant kill button and you soon find out that in most areas gune are for pansies. The game isn't very forgiving of your mistakes. You make a single mistake on Normal mode and you may live to tell about it, but on the other difficulties you will find yourself at your last checkpoint faster than you can say "Crap." This brings me to the checkpoints. They are very few and far between. For every one checkpoint that you find you may have found 3 or 4 if you were playing Halo or Gears of War. This makes the game very frustrating sometimes as you just carved a bloody swathe through your enemies and are inches away from a checkpoint that took you 20 minutes to reach only to be shot in the back by the one guy lucky enough to avoid your weapons, and now you have to start the 20 minute cycle, hoping that you kill them all this time. Lastly, we arrive at the boss fights. This is a shooter that has intense battles at regular intervals and boss fights that actually feel like boss fights. Like old school shooters, the bosses have weaknesses that you must find and exploit or else you die. The boss fights are very reminescent of the old school shooters of the golden age of video games, and although not as good as they could have been, are the shining points of this game. A very frustrating part of the game is the sensitivity of your turning. It's to sluggish at its standard setting, making it hard for you to react to incoming attacks. Tweaking the sensitivity takes time and uses a lot of trial and error, either overshooting your enemy because you turn to fast, or falling short. Once you find the right setting for yourself you will be surprised how much easier it is to catch enemies before they attack you.

Gameplay (Single Player) Overview: While the game is fun it gets repetitive. The bosses actually feel like bosses. The checkpoints are very frustrating. 3/5

Gameplay (Multiplayer): Multiplayer is perhaps the most fun this game has to offer. There are several maps, all of which are infested with dinosaurs and other hazards that seperate you and your team from the opposing side. This offers some interesting variety to the see an enemy and kill him that all multiplayer shooting games seem to have adopted these days. They now add the see an enemy, stalk him, avoid dinosaurs, kill him without being noticed by any enemies. Or, you could stick your victim with a flair and watch as the dinosaurs, who are attracted to shiny things, attack the now shiny person. You could even stick a dino with a sticky bomb and watch it run at a group of your enemies, detonate the bomb, and watch with satisfaction as the dino and all of your unfortunate enemies explode in a hail of body parts. The only downfall I find with Turok's multiplayer is the fact that it does not include the ability to play with two or more people on one system, you can only play with multiple people via X-Box Live, or the PS3 online network.

Gameplay (Multiplayer) Overview: Very fun. Adds variety to a repetitive style of multiplayer gameplay. Can't play multiplayer on your own X-Box. A nice break from games like Halo and Gears of War. 4/5 (Only because you can't play multiplayer on one X-Box.)

Gameplay (Multi-Player Co-Op): Co-Op for this game has an independant story that is very loosely tied into the main game. The co-op portion of the game is hard, and so you don't underestimate the difficulty of this game I will repeat the above statement. The co-op portion of the game is HARD. It is so hard that it is nigh impossible to complete with any less than 4 players. You are so outnumbered and outgunned that if one player makes a mistake the rest of the team is almost assured defeat. But fear not, you are given multiple lives, 2 each if I remember correctly, and are rewarded with a full stock of lives, if you lost any, each time you reach a checkpoint. The co-op portions are short, only about as long as one single mission from the main story, and there are only three co-op missions in total, and they offer very little in replay value. All in all, they only give you about an evening worth of pleasure.

Gameplay (Multiplayer Co-Op) Overview: The difficulty of these missions makes it very fun for you and a few friends to team up and tackle it just for the sake of overcoming a challenge. Far to short. 3/5

Overall, Turok is a solid game. It could have been better, but then again so could every game ever made. This game feels like an old school shooter, which I love, and has great boss battles. Although the game is off to a rocky start because of some serious flaws in its design, it has the potential to grow into a franchise that rivals the original N64 Turok. The game designers are taking a step in the right direction. With a little more polishing and a longer game they could have a shooter that rivals even Halo and Gears of War.

Compared to top-notch FPSs like Halo and Bioshock, Turok doesn't measure up. However, if you take Turok for what it is, it's, in my opinion, a good game.

Gameplay could be better but it's at least satisfactory. Expect to die fairly frequently but Turok is not a run-and-gun game; you have to plan your attack (which is why you have stealth weapons like the bow and knife). The dual-wielding of almost every weapon helps in the harder parts. Personally, I like my enemies to be a little hard to kill, no one or two-shot kills. Turok delivers this (sometimes a bit over-the-top, like when you're fighting several enemies at once). Once again, Turok doesn't compare to top-tier games like Halo, but it's pretty high second-tier. Once you get the gameplay down it's exciting and action-packed.

The graphics and storyline impressed me (and I'm used to graphics-heavy games like Gears of War). The voice acting is great without exception and the visuals for the most part are really good.

After reading mixed reviews about Turok, I rented it and had a blast. I'll be buying it as soon as I can to continue the carnage, hah.

I am deeply disappointed with this game. I have played all Turok games in the past and was interested in this one. The game started very well interesting environments, cool weapons, a very innovative "button-reaction-time" way to kill dinosaurs with a knife. I said "Whoa! I'm gonna like this game!"

UNFORTUNATELY. Towards the end of the first third of the game, it became insanely difficult. And, trust me, I am no stranger to difficulties I beat Ninja Gaiden, beat the final boss in Gears of War (ALONE, may I add). But this one just became... unfairly difficult there were stages were there were snipers and rocket launchers up front and, as you try to get a better position and aim, vicious dinosaurs would start ripping you apart from the back.

The game uses the "Call of Duty" health system; however, your health runs out in seconds. Even enemies with simple handguns shooting you from five hundred feet away, would do the same damage as if they were shooting you at point blank range. There were cases where I would finally find the hiding point behind the rock, and I still got killed RIGHT THROUGH THE ROCK. So you die, and you die, and you die, and you die, and you die, and you die... well, you get the picture.

If I don't like a game, I usually put it away for good. This one pissed me off so badly, that I went and sold it for a fraction of its cost just to get some of my money back.

Shame. The game had a very good potential which, alas, wasn't realized.

Ever since I saw Jurassic Park, I had a newfound respect for Tyrannosaurus Rex. Forget dragons: a T-Rex is a terrifying killing machine, and Jurassic Park made it clear that you didn't just see one of these monsters coming, you actually felt its presence. Of course, my love for dinosaurs started well before that, back when I was in elementary school. What's sad is that I wanted dinosaur curtains, dinosaur bedspreads, dinosaur anything -and back then there WERE no dinosaur-themed stuff for kids. Now my one-year-old wears a new dinosaur-themed outfit practically every day.

It's probably no surprise that I'm fond of Jurassic Fight Club, which matches two (or more) dinosaurs in tail-to-head combat. The speculation and history lessons are fun, but the actual computer graphic battles in all their bloody glory left me itching for something more. And that more is Turok.

Turok is a first-person shooter, but the thrill is in the use of the bow and the knife to silently take out your enemies. Dinosaur combat is less about shooting them and more about pressing the right combination of buttons to fend it off; the combination changes with each dinosaur attack, which keeps Turok fresh with sudden mini-games that are thrust suddenly upon you.

The other neat element is that dinosaurs are animals at heart. They run from explosions, sniff out prey, and can be lured into traps. My personal favorite: shooting a flare over a grenade, a dinosaur wanders over to sniff it and...BOOM! Instant meat shower! The dinosaurs are more forces of nature than enemies; there are plenty of opportunities to have shoot-outs with better-armed and armored opponents.

This is the first game to really do the T-Rex justice. Showdowns with this monster (which, I'm pleased to report, happen frequently) always end in horrible carnage. The great voice acting and slick script only add to the paranoid atmosphere. There's even a shout-out to Aliens, complete with flamethrowers and giant bugs.

Remember that scene in Predator, where the Native American, Billy, stays behind to take on the alien with jut a knife? His off-screen death was really lame. Turok's much better answer: Hell yeah, an Indian can take on a dinosaur...give him a knife, and he can stab a T-Rex to death with it!

An aux cable is a total must if you have an ipod and a compatible car stereo. My friends all had regular cables that were always in the way or getting tangled.

This cable is very convenient because it is only as long as you need it to be. At first I was worried that it might not stay the length that I chose (since the cord is retractable) but the ipod is enough weight to keep the cord extended.

Unlike other aux cables, this cord is only about as thick as standard headphone cords. This hasn't presented a problem for me yet.

The only issue that I have had with it is that it is so small that I have almost lost it a few times in my car. Now it has a special spot that it stays when not in use.

UPDATE: Sometimes I have trouble getting the end to my ipod connected all the way, so it just takes an extra second to make sure that you're fully connected (or else you're only getting one speaker, so to say).

UPDATED UPDATE: After using these for over 2 years, I will change my review from 5 to 4 stars. I've had to purchase 3 of these in two years, which isn't exactly a burden with how little they cost, but it is a testament to their durability. It's also a little annoying to wait for shipping. Every six months or so these little guys get worn out enough that they short and the cables need to be replaced. Last time I needed a new aux cable right away I just bought one in stores, and bucked up for one of the thicker, flat cords, with sturdier connections, which I imagine will give me better longevity. I used these cords for both ipods and android phones, though.

This is a nice addition to the BF3 package. It has the same philosophy as the existing BF3 maps. TDM, conquest, etc., but there is much more action due to the smaller maps. There is no need to spawn and run across a large map for 30 seconds only to get sniped by a camper because the smaller maps provide more action in a faster time. You will spawn right into the action. This also makes the use of a squad more important. A squad that works together can wreak havoc on the opposing team.

There are 10 more weapons "Assignments" that can be unlocked with this package. Some of my favorites are the SPA-12 and the MK5 to name a few. You might have other preferences, but for close quarters combat these are great. Most of the assignments can be unlocked after only a few rounds because the close combat will allow you to score quickly and level up fast.

One drawback to the package is that there are not a lot of servers currently hosting CQ. Sometimes you will end up on a server with a high ping because there are not many servers with open slots available. Hopefully, the add-on content will gain more popularity because I really like playing the maps.

UT 2003 was a pretty good game, I played the demo for hours and hours, did the same with the full game and the same with Unreal Championship for Xbox. So when I got the UT 2004 demo for PC, I was pretty excited. But nothing could have prepared me for what I was about to experience. I immediately felt at home with the game, considering many of the weapons were the same, and much of the gameplay. But there was sooooo much more. So I played the demo everyday from the time it was released up to the time I received the full game. Believe it or not, playing that one stage in Onslaught for an entire month never got boring, that is just how great the game is. The full game however, is simply AMAZING!! The graphics are absolutely jaw-dropping, especially with the highest settings enabled (you need a powerful system to run this though). I don't think I've even seen graphics this great on any of the nexgen consoles. Also the stages are massive (mainly the Assault and Onsalught stages), its amazing to think of how much detail and creation when into the design of the stages. The sound in my opinion is also great. You can hear every little minute detail, and much of the music is good and suits the stage. The control is perfect, with the default settings being totally comfortable, allowing for maximum gameplay. Ahh yess, the gameplay. You thought Quake was good, you thought Halo was good, well they're pretty crappy compared to this game. The vehicles, the weapons, the bots, the entire style of the game, is simply outstanding. There is not enough to say about the vehicles. They put Halo's vehicles to shame. There is a perfect gun for every moment, each completely different from the other. The single player is exceptional for a multiplayer type game, and obviously the multiplayer aspect is fantastic, with up to 32 player online deathmatch, and no lag (with a proper connection). There are 10 modes of play, and about 100 levels. Then there's still the Unreal Editor which will allow you to create your own. There is also way too much that I cannot list here that you would just have to play and find out for yourself. I would actually go as far as to say this game is PERFECT. There is actually NOTHING wrong with it and EVERYTHING good. If you can overlook the extremely minor 'problem' of the 5.5 gig install, you'd be absolutely happy with your purchase. And at $40 retail, you cannot find a better videogame experience, period.

As someone who was a major addict of the original UT, and somewhat put off by the 2003 edition, I have to say that I have found that chemistry again with UT 2004. For whatever reason, "it" is back, and this game recaptures a lot of the great fun of the original.

While I personally thrilled to see the return of Assault, my favorite mode of gameplay, I must agree with many of the reviewers that Onslaught is the real star here. Onslaught provides for a long, agressive and surprisingly focused battle, which uses its vehicles well on the massive boards. In particular, the vehicle designs feel like a tremendous amount of refinement has been put into balancing their strengths, which was one of the things that truly brought a lot of fun into the original as well. This allows any person who is good enough with their favorite vehicle/weapon to excel, and that is really what makes these games fun. Unlike some games, where the person who got whatever weapon was the best could just devastate the world, UT2004 has created a setup which favors skill over resources as well as any game out there.

Of course, Unreal is also known for its graphics, and UT2004 delivers here as well. Surprisingly smooth for the level of detail delivered, UT2004 is a treat to look at. Audio is basic and boomy, with the biggest change being the return of the original announcer's voice. The top end is VERY high, though. I own a fairly substantial 2.5 GHz P4, 512 MB RAM, and a ATI Radeon 9700 Pro, and find that the middle settings on most of the many, many adjustable graphical effects are the best for relatively skip-free gameplay.

Which does bring us to the major weakness of the game: You need a fairly beefy system to play. While it certainly work surprisingly well on the minimum requirements, the 5.5 GB install is staggering, and the largest I have seen for ANY product, not just entertainment. With all of that data, load times for levels are gratingly long (sometimes in the 3-5 minute range for some of the really enormous Onslaught levels).

But Epic also maintains the other leg of the Unreal tradition: user mods. UT has kept a massive fanbase that constantly produces a long stream of fun and creative levels to play, and UT2004 does nothing to discourage this. In fact, a lot of the new graphical features, and the vehicles, have thrown even more arrows in the quiver of the internet world.

And speaking of which, the integration of Voice Over IP (VOIP) into the game is a major plus, especially in the popular and team-oriented Onslaught, Capture the Flag, Bombing Run, and Assault modes. Strategy and organization can be vastly improved with the ability to actually TALK to your mates.

Given all of the above, I would give UT2004 five stars for gameplay and value (mainly because of the added value of the massive internet modand map-making community), but I have to take one away for the heavy requirements and long load times. But still something I see myself playing a lot, warts and all, because the multiplayer aspect is just too much fun, all over again.

Unreal 2004 combines UT 2003 and Halo together. I played the demo online and I must say the graphics are just beautiful. I have an ati radeon 8500 128mb, 1GB of corsair pc2700, and a p4 2ghz and I handeled the game at MAX settings at 1024x768 -the engine is really something. For those of you who say that 2003 was better, thats impossible, because if you don't like the cars and "complicated" missions, there are good ol' deathmatch, team deathmatch, FFA and capture the flag matches without vehicles. Sound deserves 5 stars. If you have an audigy and a nice sound system (like logitech z560) this game is gonna rock your house. The ONLY thing I didn't like was the lagginess on big public servers (im talkin 32 ppl). Sometimes it gets outa hand and you cant even aim straight. But if its a LAN party thats another story.

If you liked UT2003,then UT2004 will be off-the-hook!!

The graphics is phenomenal,also the AI isnot bad either.

Over 100 levels of play,and new Maps.

My favorite game is the invasion board,you and your teammates (real or bots) must fight off a wave on monsters for 3minutes.

IF you are fragged you will respawn,if atleast 1 teammate survives,on the next wave,you will then respawn.

Each consecutive wave gets harder,as the monsters get tougher,and new monster appear,with deadlier weapontry.

I also like Onslaught,a sort on capture the flag game,but better. You must secure power-nodes,for you team. As you secure these nodes,you eventually get to the opposite teams base,and you can now destory there power-core to win.

Also,when playing the single player game,you win credits for every game you win against your opponent. You must pay your teammates,and also pay their injury bills. You can manage you team,sort of like XBOX's Madden 2004.

After installing your game,goto the website,and download the 12mb upgrade. This will allow you to play game,with out inserting the Play Disc.
