Customer review from the Amazon Vine Program We were hoping the Atlantic VG Spyder TV/Gaming Hub would be a good solution for our bedroom entertainment and gaming setup. We have had our 40 inch LCD HDTV set up on our dresser, as our walls cannot handle a wall mount. We had our PS3 and Wii, along with our bedroom DVR set up on a table next to the dresser, and it was pretty cluttered. Unfortunately, there is no room on the Spyder gaming hub for our DVR, but the rest of the setup is now all contained within the hub.

Unpacking the parts from the box was a breeze, and initial setup took about 30 minutes. I did need to have ample space for setting it up, but it was pretty straight forward. Just make sure you leave the screws relatively loose when constructing it so they have some wiggle room before tightening them at the end of setup.

Most of the parts seem sturdy enough. The brackets that connect to your TV seem very stable, but the main frame of the hub seems like it could have been reinforced a little better than it is. Still, it claims to support up to a 42 inch TV and seems stable enough with our 40 inch, so I can't complain too much. The fact that you can angle your TV after setting it up is nice, just make sure you have a firm hold on it and move slowly to avoid tipping the entire thing over.

I do have a few complaints about the Spyder hub. First and most importantly is that our TV is extremely low to the floor on the hub's highest level. Previously, we had it more than a foot higher than it is right now. I suppose this won't bother some people, especially if you're just going to use it for lazy sofa gaming, or with a gaming rocker where you're already on the floor anyway. For us, this will take some getting used to. It's not a deal breaker by any means, but it would have been nice if they could have allowed for a bit more height. Second, we have a USB fan hooked up to our PS3 which we keep behind it to blow the hot air away from it. This has helped tremendously in keeping it cool, but there is not much room for it on the hub's platform. Also, it would have been nice to have a small barrier on the front of the platform and along the sides instead of in the back, to avoid small bumps from knocking the gaming systems over.

The guitar holders are probably the most flimsy element of the whole setup, being held together with only one screw, but they are kept in the back and out of the way so it's not a huge problem. The accessory basket only holds a couple PS3 or Wii controllers with no room for anything else. I don't see why this could not have been wider to allow for more storage. Also, there are only slots for 6 games, so for most of the target audience for this item it will not even come close to holding your entire gaming library.

I could see this being perfect for a college dorm, small room, or kid's gaming setup (as long as they're old enough not to play around with it, as it could tilt and fall over). If you're going to use this stand in an environment with small children running around, I'd highly recommend installing the wall strap that is included for an extra level of safety. For our purposes, the Spyder hub has succeeded in freeing up some bedroom space and consolidating some of our gaming elements into a nice, small area. It's not perfect I wish it had more height and storage space to it but it gets the job done. Consider whether it would be appropriate enough for your situation to justify the price. As long as you know what you're getting, you most likely won't be disappointed.

Customer review from the Amazon Vine Program At first glance, the Spyder Gaming Hub from Atlantic seems like a great option for consolidating your console gaming needs, but in reality, there really isn't anything too revolutionary here. It is easy to set up. It took less than 10 minutes out of the box. It is also very sturdy, and made of quality materials. I set up a 42" monitor on it and it seems to handle the weight very well. Those are about the only good qualities for it though. My main complaint is simply that the design isn't customized enough, and doesn't seem like it was designed by an actual gamer. The accessory basket is way too small, and doesn't hold enough games. Anyone purchasing this is going to own more than six games. While the game cart can be useful for holding six of your most-recently played games, the design seems like it should be able to easily accommodate an additional game rack underneath. The footprint is also a bit too big. I have a game case that sits on my floor, but the legs on the stand take up a lot of space, and their design makes it difficult to keep anything at the bottom of the stand. You can't see it from Amazon's picture, but there is an area in the back to hold a surge protector/power strip, however it will only accommodate a narrow power strip sitting flat. You can use a bigger strip in it if you sit it at an angle, but it's not very sturdy then and I had to bend back the supports to allow space for my larger power adapter blocks. There is a hook on the back for cable management, but it would have made much more sense to have the cables run down through the stand so they are completely hidden from view. I am a perfectionist when it comes to cables and I don't want to be able to see cables running down it from the front of the stand. It should be seamless and this should be an easy thing to accomplish. I ended up wrapping my cables in electrical tape around the post to hide them. You can rotate the monitor 120 degrees, but there is no tilt. The height is somewhat adjustable, but not enough to counter the lack of tilt. Sitting on the floor is not really an option. Finally, the stand just doesn't look that nice. Initially I had it set up in my den, but the aesthetics are more suited to a playroom, and even then I wouldn't use bit around children because of the potential to topple over. It's not very likely to fall, especially if you use the strap to secure the back to a stud, but with a large TV and the way children play, I wouldn't feel comfortable using it.

For the price, you can get much better consoles that are better-suited to gamers.

The guitar holders do not have to be attached if not needed. There are three height settings for the TV, and TV screen can be freely swiveled 90% (45 each way) without having to move the base. There is also an optional safety strap that can be attached to a nearby wall, which is great for anyone with kids prone to climbing up on things.

The assembly instructions are very clear and parts are clearly labeled. Unit includes large assortment of various sized bolts and nuts to ensure that the proper size is available to attach mounting brackets securely to your tv.

Good: It is sturdy and the design allows any gaming systems or other electronics placed within it to ventilate well. It also swivels 90 degrees which is useful.

Not so good: What about the speakers? It would be nice if it could accommodate audio output devices on the unit. I don't care for the guitar rack being on the unit it messes with the "Feng shui" or sleekness of the design to have a couple guitars hanging off the back of the unit.

There is no room to keep multiple media devices on this DVR, DVD player, Media players etc. And the finish is not polished enough for a family room or a living room. There are also not a whole lot of options to adjust the viewing position and angle of television. screen. It is fairly sturdy for a gaming stand.

The niche for this Gaming Stand is really a teenager's room or a dorm room where gaming console is pretty much the only device attached to a television.

My son is 6 and it is sometimes difficult to find games that are fun, challenging and at the same time easy enough for him to play himself. This game is not only fun for both of us, but it's challenging in a way that is not too hard for him nor too easy for me. We enjoy playing together and helping each other through the levels. Graphics and controls are great. The game is creative with fun "extras" to find that will make you laugh. My favorite part is the text boxes. My son doesn't have to call me into the room every 5 minutes to read the text for him because the game reads it outloud for him! Great feature!! I'm having trouble at the very beginning of the game, and I've solved some hard games. This certainly is not going to be fun for my son.

Also, the gameplay is terrible. The camera angles are very limited. You can't even look up. The left-right movement is twitchy, it makes it hard to do a double-jump straight ahead.

I am a sucker for special edition game gear and and I am particuarly impressed by this controller because it actually looks better in person. I have the Gears of War 3 controllers as well but I prefer the Modern Warfare controller for two reasons. The thumb sticks are smooth whereas the standard controller thumb sticks have four small and rather uneccessary bumps. The other reason being that the surface of the controller feels slightly textured in comparrisson to the glossy Gears of War controllers which can get a bit slick during gameplay. If in need of a new controller, I'd definatly recommend this over the standard or GoW versions.

My parents play MW3. They are both around 50 years old. Dad is good, Mom is... I don't see how that's relevant. BACK OFF MY MOM! For a long time, part of her handicap on the game was using Dad's hand-me-down controllers that he would replace as the joysticks started to wear out. As my mother sits in the corner with an LMG doing the "spray and pray" routine, this was enough for a while. She was playing with the boys, and she was happy. As her skill started to improve, she decided she wanted a controller that was brand new, just for her, and off limits to the vices that my father passes off as hands. Because she wanted to keep it to herself it had to look distinctive, and since this was around Christmas I passed on having to come up with an original idea and got her the MW3 controller and matching headset. It's an Xbox 360 controller made by Microsoft, and it functions just like every other one on the planet. The heads of the joysticks are shaped a little different and the d-pad is the new adjustable type but as far as the mechanics of it goes there is nothing new here.

But it is SO PRETTY! Don't let the picture fool you into thinking that the skin job is "just awesome." This thing is gorgeous. If I were single and this controller were a woman I would repeatedly take it out to eat fancy seafood in public places where I could watch men and women drool alike over the awesomeness across the table from me. This controller is that pretty. The underside is black, the graphics are just on the top, and that really doesn't matter; as my mom sits in her living room redefining "low man on the totem pole," she is doing so with the sweetest looking controller made for any system I have ever seen.

This controller is similar to the silver one with the play and charge kit & "transforming" D-pad it has the grippy circles on the ends of the thumb sticks rather than the old 4 dot design, which I've found easier to play shooters with sensitivity set higher on.

Unlike the silver controller the back is a very textured matte black and the MW3 design on the top isn't slick like the tops of all of the other limited edition controllers. It's actually quite a bit easier to hold on to than any of the other 360 controllers I've tried since release day and includes the switchable d-pad. I purchased it since my silver one's right trigger stopped working every time I pulled it and find it to be ideal after playing Skyrim, MW3 & a bit of Battlefield 3 with it throughout the day, due to it being a lot less slippery.

I imagine this one would be good for people who's hands sweat when they play, though I can't say for certain as mine don't it just seems to me that a less slippery controller would be better in that situation.

This was a fun game with some great graphics and overall gameplay. While there were a few parts in the game that seemed a bit choppy in regards to how the animation plays into the mix, but outside of this I loved the ability to be able to work with the Autobot that I wanted to work with and change as needed too. Also, I have played a few Transformers games in the past and though there were a couple of rougher spots, this by far surpassed my expectations and if you are a transformers fan, you will just love this game, and even if you are just becoming a fan or have just learned about the movie or series you will also really enjoy the overall game, story line and adventure that you are placed in!

Many have been saying that this game was a disappointment and too short. All I care about if some parts of the game are actually relevant to what is projected on the show. This game is action-packed, and simply an awesome game. Each character has their unique combos and special attacks, and I love how you can just ram the cons off the cliffs (I have done that an hour straight once, it's that fun to me ^^). Battling Megatron down to the final stand was always fun, and being able to play against your friends in Multiplayer Mode is always fun to. Thunderwing was a very unique addition to the game, I liked how they incorporated him as a final boss, because as any other Transformers game, the final boss would be Megatron. But, this game was like: "HOLD IT, Megatron's NOT the last boss! Meet THUNDERWING!". That's what really exceeded my expectations and really made the game fun, having Optimus utilize with the Matrix of Leadership was awesome, and defeating Thunderwing just made me feel like I've achieved something.

Don't listen to those who keep complaining that it's a short game! I just replay the levels so I get a perfect score/rank on each of them, to kinda 100% the game, y'know? This game is a must buy to Transformers Prime fans and all Transformers geeks out there!

The Alpha Anthology, is so far the best port of any Street Fighter collection. It includes five games (SF Alpha, Alpha 2, Alpha 2 Gold, Alpha 3, and Gem Fighter), as well as two unlockable games (Hyper SF Alpha and a "bonus" version of SF Alpha 3).

The graphics and music of the five titles are perfect, just like the original arcade games themselves. If you have a wide-aspect ratio TV, you'll be treated to full arcade goodness if not, you can modify the aspect ratio so that it fits a standard TV. Controls are also flawless, much like those of the Anniversary Collection.

The unlockable games are as follows:

"bonus" SF Alpha 3: It's SF Alpha 3 with more fighting styles, and all (most?) the Street Fighter characters, drawn Alpha-style. This includes characters that have never before made it into Alpha games like Balrog and Fei Long, and some that are brand new. When played alone, this game is very difficult.

Hyper SF Alpha: Very similar to SF Alpha 3 (in fact, I'm not sure what the exact differences are, in terms of gameplay), but can only be played against another opponent. Includes the same characters as "bonus" SFA3.

In addition, all Alpha games include a Versus mode with full win/loss tallying, a Dramatic Battle mode in which two players (Human/Human or Human/CPU) simultaneously take on a single CPU player and a Survival mode, which places you against opponent after opponent, refilling only a portion of your life bar after each match.

To sum it up, the Alpha Anthology is the best SF collection Capcom has released. Here's to hoping that the Darkstalkers and Marvel series will follow a similar suit.

The Street Fighter Alpha series has always been a fun variation on the tried and true Street Fighter series. The game play here is on level with with pretty much all of the other SF games (Capcom has rarely failed to live up to the expectations they have been shouldered with after creating such an amazing franchise) so there's nothing to worry about here.

The reason this game gets a 3 star rating instead of a 4 or 5 is because of the content they have included and excluded. Capcom has already shown that they know how to do a proper anthology set with both the Mega Man anthology and the Street Fighter anthology. However, with SSAA, there is no promo material to view, no real extras at all. All you get are more characters, more game modes that vary only the slightest bit from all of the other games.

The largest disappointment is the lack of a World Tour mode in Street Fighter Alpha 3. The original console releases for PSX and Saturn included a gameplay addition called World Tour mode, which allowed you to travel the globe fighting different opponents but under specific challenging circumstances. You might face two Guiles, and only be able to hurt them with special attacks, or need to get a perfect when facing a rush of Rolentos in order to advance. This was not only a great way to practice and hone your skill outside of arcade mode and training, but also allowed you to power up and further customize your character, save it and use it in regular matches.

Instead of including this or any promo material, or worthwhile bonuses we are given hidden versions of the game that are absolutely meaningless. Instead of simply including the extra characters in the original game, or giving us fighting style options, they provide two games that are incredibly superfluous. One is Street Fighter Alpha 3 Upper, which is SFA3, with a few more characters (who could have easily been included in the original SFA3) as well as Hyper Street Fighter Alpha. HSFA does exactly what I suggested earlier, in that it allows you to switch playing style between the 3 games. The fact that an entire extra game was included because of this is a waste.

Ultimately, this is a great collection. The games are fun. The characters are a blast and interesting. The art direction is superb and the graphics hold up surprisingly well for a 2d fighter. The mechanics of the game are wonderful to learn and utilize and it would take you months to "master" the entire roster of characters. While I realize this seems like a very negative review, the game is absolutely wonderful. However, I can not hide my dissapointment with their failure to do the Alpha series justice, like were able to successfully do with Mega Man and SSFII.

My favorite game in the entire catalog of games available across all consoles and arcade machines is Street Fighter Alpha 3. My PSOne copy was one of my most prized possessions and unfortunately for me, it got stolen and I immediately sought a replacement. Of course, nowadays getting a good copy of SFA3 is challenging in many respects so in my search I stumbled upon Street Fighter Alpha Anthology. This discovery led to the following comparison points:

1) This is a much cheaper alternative than the original PSOne version of SFA3 and of course, it is new.

2) This is a PS2 game, which offers better compatibility with my PS2 Slim. I play some old-school PSOne games on that console and sometimes it has a little trouble reading the older disks.

3) The PS2 disk has several of my favorite fighting games piled together.

THE OLD STUFF WE LOVE.

The characters have not changed their appearance at all in each of the corresponding games in the disk and their moves have remained intact. Also, the timing and rhythm of the fights is the exact same found in the original releases of the games featured. Costume changes, secret characters and levels, cheats, character stages, super combo finish screens, game options, among other goodies we love from the old games are there. Most of the original music is featured except in SFA2, where in some levels the music is the same but with different sounds and this is not a big deal at all. The story-lines, the rivalries, and the character endings are the same as in the original games as well.

SURPRISES?!

Yes, some things have changed. If I am good at any game, it would be any of the games in the Alpha series so believe me when I spot little differences from the original in terms of gameplay, artificial intelligence, graphics, music, you name it. Across all games, the first thing you notice is how much more difficult it is to fight the CPU than in the original games. Even at the highest difficulty I was able to dominate the CPU except a few characters (Shin Akuma, Evil Ryu, and sometimes Zangief) in my PSOne version of Alpha 3 for instance. In Anthology, every round is a struggle for survival and a great challenge and I love it. I haven't felt so challenged by a fighting game in a long time and this increased difficulty is quite delightful. Also delightful is the amount of game modes you can unlock to eventually get all the game modes featured in all of the original games and more (such as the Hyper Street Fighter Zero, Dramatic Battle Survival Mode, among others). Ironically, most of the changes have been done in the latest installment of the series, SFA3. I am sorry to say that the World Tour Mode is gone and with it, the ability to customize your character and use it in battle. Also gone are the vital stats of each character (weight, height, age, etc.) shown when you select your favorite in the original release...very sad because I liked that feature but I'll get over it. In an effort to simplify the game a little bit, the health bar is now of only one solid color (remember how in Alpha 2 and 3 the health bar when full spans from green to yellow?...now it is solid yellow), which is ok with me. The animation for each of the hits onscreen has changed across all games, making each of the hits more noticeable with a starburst effect when they land on the opponent whether he/she is guarding or not (this is a cool improvement I think because the hits look more dramatic). Some of the entrance animations of some of the characters have changed slightly but in a good way, giving the characters a fresher look right before the fight.

Am I happy? Absolutely. This is an excellent compilation of games which features classic fighting action, more challenging gameplay for advanced players and wonderful VS action for those occasions when your friend needs to be taught a lesson.

360 Controller Thumbstick and D Pad Replacement Set Clear with Free Reviews

i ordered a replacement shell for my beat up xbox 360 controller but the thumbsticks did not fit right and were pretty cheap, so i ordered these from llama. They came and they looked awesome, didnt have that cheap plastic smell and the rubber grip was pretty good it had less grip than the microsoft ones but they get the job done and are pretty comfortable even after long sessions of play and respond well with fps. The d pad isnt really that great but it works and the 360 never had a decent d pad anyway. Make sure you install them correctly i didnt push them down enough at first and they got stuck but after making sure it went in all they way (hehe) it was smooth sailing from there. Now the pair i got had some left over plastic on the underside of the grip im guessing from the mold and it kinda messed up the sprinting in some games but just pulled it off and it was good. Even with its faults these are really good replacements and i am very happy with them.

i recieved my package today and i took apart my controler with the FREE t8 driver and i tried putting the thumbsticks on but the tabs u put the sticks on were to big and needed to be sanded down just a bit.

It comes with the headset, a charging cradle with power adaptor, and a 3 inch usb cable (for synching purposes).

Straight out of the box this looks professional and a high quality design.

It has a power on/off button, a vol+ and vol-, and a MUTE button. All are instinctively located. It can be worn on the left or right ear via a swivel clip common on most bluetooth headsets nowadays.

How do you use it you may ask?

You plug in the headset via the small usb cable to the playstation3 and it automatically syncs it with your ps3. I have heard that you need to delete any other bluetooth headsets in order to do this but that was not my experience. Wait till you see the red ring flash twice and your done.

Don't synch it using the bluetooth discovery method. If you do so it will function like a regular bluetooth headset and some features will not work correctly (such as on screen indication of your volume level, battery life gauge, the mute button, and on screen display if your mute is on or off).

The only complaint I have is that the "headset speaker" is sort of big and the rubber ring that goes around it isn't very soft and can hurt your ear after less than 30 minutes. I did find a solution to this if you just don't jam in into your ear canal that far into your ear it is very comfortable and functional. Just sort of barely seat it into your ear and it works and feels great.

The sound quality is way better than any other bluetooth headset I have used on my ps3 (I have used 4 different ones, all with great levels of success).

It also claims to have a "speakerphone"/microphone function when the headset is in the cradle. I have not had a chance to test this.

In addition the battery life on this claims to be 8 hours with 300 hours of standby which is fantastic.

Finally, it can be used as a bluetooth headset with a bluetooth compatible cellphone.

I purchased this from another retailer and I thought I'd share some thoughts about it. For starters, it is MUCH better then the Metal Gear Solid 4 bluetooth headset. The MGS headset had way too much static when trying to use it. With this headset I get virtually no static at all. It looks very stylish and professional looking, especially with the little PS logo on it as well.

Is it worth the $50 price tag? Well that all depends on the person using it. It goes great with almost any cell phone, and works perfect with the ps3 and heck it'll work pretty well with any computer that has BT capability as well. The one little gripe I have about it though is that it starts to hurt my ear after about 1-2 hours. It's not because it's a design flaw, but more because I have such large ears. Other then those few little things, I highly recommend this BT headset. Great job Sony!

This headset works great with the PS3. The sound quality is much better than my old Motorola Bluetooth headset i was using. There is little to no echo. The charging stand, speaker works great when you aren't using it on your head. Make sure that you follow the directions and sync it via usb not bluetooth. This allows you to get a lot more features from the headset/speaker stand. (It gives instructions to do this in the manual provided).

I give this item only three total stars because of the comfort factor. The piece that fits over the ear is nice and works but its the piece that goes into the ear that is not very comfortable. If you have the headset on for extended periods of time you will most likely have to switch ears or at least take it out ever so often.

Everyone should know that practically, every Bluetooth headset works with the PS3. The reason to buy this one is that it is made specifically for the PS3 and it provides certain features that the 'other' sets don't. When properly paired with the PS3 (using the USB wire, NOT the standard Bluetooth pairing process) you will be able to see your set's status such as 'battery charge' or mute on/off on-screen. There is also a voice command mode that would allow certain games to better interpret your voice commands.

To summarize the positives:

integrates with the PS3 better than other sets

may be better at helping the PS3 recognize your voice commands (haven't tested this myself yet)

good, convenient placement for the 'mute' button

good color coordination with your PS3 and your other PS3 peripherals

I was a bit skeptical when buying this product. I've bought a lot of aftermarket products for my 360 before and the stuff usually works, but never 100%. This one works like a charm. You connect the remotes and when they aren't fully charged the red light comes on almost instantly. After some time (usually hour or two) the green lights will turn on to show the batteries are fully charged. I believe also it doesn't overcharge the battery, thus increasing the battery life. I've tried charging both original Microsoft batteries as well as some aftermarket battery packs (NyKo aftermarket battery packs to be specific) and this Energizer charger works well for BOTH. Plus this charger helps your remotes look a lot cooler when they are not in use rather than just having them thrown in a corner somewhere. Definitely worth the money, and I'm even considering buying a second one soon.

I have had 2 plug in play charger batteries die. The controllers would still work, as long as they were plugged into the xbox. I have 3 plug n play charge cables, and 2 xboxs. The problem exists on em all, so I know the problem was in the batteries. After one charge on this my batteries will hold a full charge again!!! Just got this yesterday, if it turns out I made this review early I will edit this post. But as of 24 hours after receiving this I couldn't be happier. Plus I like star trek and this thing looks like it could go warp 11. HAHA (yeah I know, physically impossible. Way to ruin a great joke!!!)

PS I saw a review saying the headset charger wasn't there. Well you may have accidentally thrown it away!!! It is a small piece that is optional, one end plugs into power cord and other end plugs into the base where the power cord would normally go. It is totally there, and good thing cause I bought a used wireless headset for $5 cause dude lost the charger. And it works just fine now. Its the whole reason I bought this.

Apparently there are different variants of this product being sold under the same name. Mine came with two rechargeable batteries :) and did not include a headset charger option :< but that's fine with me because I don't have a rechargeable headset anyway.

The power adapter is a power strip friendly 5V 1A wall wart with a cord that's about 4' long and uses a mini coaxial connector.

IMHO this is by far the coolest looking 2-controller docking station you can get for your Xbox controllers.

The Intec Pro Mini-2 X-Box Controller is absolute garbage! To post a review one is required to offer a rating, unfortunately the rating system doesn't go low enough to properly reflect the quality of these controllers. On a scale of 1 to 5, these rate a negative 10!

I am a gamer with thousands of hours behind the controller, most notably with the Halo game series. While every brand of controller has it's quirks, generally they they will perform similarly to the Microsoft OEM controller. An exception must be made for this extremely poor quality knock-off. The joysticks have no ability for subtle movement (sensitivity), they are either moving or not, there is no in between, no matter how delicately the operator attempts to manipulate them and regardless of the level of sensitivity applied to the software settings of the controller. All of the buttons seem to have a time delay between the moment they are depressed and when they decide to activate whatever action they are intended to operate. That is ALL of the buttons, stop/start, A/B/X/Y, and the white and black buttons under the A/B/X/Y buttons. Even the triggers seem sluggish. This is assuming that any of the buttons respond at all.

If you are looking for a suitable replacement to your OEM X-Box controllers, these are not it! Do not buy these, you'll be extremely disappointed if you do.

Halo is one of the best games on the xbox 360, if you get this game then you wouldn't be disapointed for getting this game. i bought halo 4 and I loved it! It was the best game ever!(in my opinion) I am not a hater but I do feel like there was something missing in halo 4. It didn't have a classic feel, and the campaign is not very beautiful in architecture and landscaping. But the gameplay was Awesome! I have played halo in the past but I like this one the best. I do think they need to have a playlist for people who love halo 1,2,and 3. But overall this game is the best halo game. I do feel like 343 industries didn't hit the spot for halo fans but they sure did make a great halo game.

We got our hands on an XBox 360, a PS3, and a Wii on launch day. Each is good at specific tasks. Here is a fully unbiased review of how the PS3 performs as a next generation console unit.

To start with, the PS3, like the XBox 360, supports full high definition. The Wii only supports a lower resolution. Since the Wii has a much lower price tag, that is a fair trade-off for people with a tighter budget. Gamers for whom a very high level of graphic detail is important will have to pony up for that ability.

Along the same lines, the XBox 360 supports the HD format of high definition DVDs for movies, while the PS3 supports the Blu-ray format. If you haven't been following the whole format war for high definition DVDs, I have several articles on the topic on my gaming site. In short it's like the VHS/Beta wars when the VCR first came out. Is one better than the other? Will one format win out as the sole survivor? There's no way to tell. People will argue vehemently that one is better than the other. From a gaming point of view, the PS3 has the Blu-ray BUILT IN meaning every game can have 50 GIGS worth of game information. Think MASSIVELY huge maps, types of characters, etc. The XBox 360 only uses "regular" DVDs as its base game holder, which is about 7 GIG. That is much smaller. You can buy an add-on HD DVD unit for about $100 (shop around they're there at that price) but the storage is still smaller than Blu-ray about 30 gig.

People will argue about graphics until they're blue :) A lot of this comes down to how a specific game company *uses* the ability of the system. Looking at graphics on a tetris-like game will be much different than viewing the graphics of Oblivion or Gears of War. I found 360 graphics amazing on Oblivion. I equally found the PS3 graphics quite impressive on Genji's cut scenes (no enemy crabs in sight). Since both are high definition, I think that both have the same potential in real life terms. Both really shine in terms of fluid motion, precise detail and realism. I've seen it on both systems, on certain games. I've also seen junky graphics on both systems. Both are much better than the Wii.

How about sound? All of these can plug into your stereo system. My boyfriend and I are both musicians. We have decibel meters and other sound-sensing tools. All three systems can create amazingly complex sounds, music, and in general a "gaming environment". Again I think it comes down to specific game makers, how they choose to use or not use that ability. It also comes down to how much you the gamer spent on your stereo system :)

Speaking of sound, I do have to comment that our 360 is quite loud when it runs, despite our many attempts to help it be quieter. The PS3 right out of the box is MUCH quieter. Score 1 point for the PS3.

On the general operating system for the units, all three consoles are going for more of a "general use entertainment system" presentation. The XBox has customizeable tabs that let you download new games, manage your environment and so on. The Wii also has channels that let you organize your gaming world. The PS3 has an interface almost exactly like that of the PSP, complete with cool drifting smoke waves in the background. You choose which area you want to work on game, music, internet connection etc., and drop down to alter whatever feature you're interested in.

So on to the on-line aspect, which most gamers are now fully interested in. Where the XBox 360 makes you buy an external connector for wireless, the PS3 has that built-in on the 60 gig model. The 20 gig model still requires an external connector (these run about $100). All will let you plug in a cable if you're still running a wired household.

[UPDATED JUNE 2007] Back during launch, people thought 20 gig was great and that 60 gig was overkill for a gaming system. After all, the XBox 360 had 20 gig as their top end. Now, only a few months later, Sony has discontinued their 20 gig as "too small". XBox has the Elite model with 120 gig. The difference is as that gamers are converting their focus from audio storage to video storage, and high def video at that. People are downloading and enjoying movies and TV shows on their consoles. It's something to consider, if you will be doing that with your console.

How does the online world work on the PS3? The XBox definitely has the advantage here. Until this generation, *only* the XBox had a thriving community in their live world. The XBox 360 connected right into that XBox Live world, and they boast a *huge* community of gamers who actively gain points, play online and form virtual worlds. The PS3 and Wii both have to play catch-up at this point. Even if they have better interfaces, it's a matter of converting over all those players who have clans, familiarity and high point collections on the XBox world. Imagine if a new MMORPG came out right now that had fantastic graphics. Sure it might be wonderful but will you really get all 800 trillion WOW players to drop their world and characters and friends to convert, especially if it costs more? It'll be a hard, slow sell.

My summary? I definitely think all three have great games and that all three are worth owning. Of course I'm in a position that I *can* afford all three, which many people are not in. For example, I *love* the Zelda series, and I *love* the Final Fantasy series. I would be hard put to tell a person "you need to get Zelda instead of Final Fantasy". I would want the person to have both, because both are great for different reasons. If you really truly can only save up for one of the three consoles, it isn't going to come down to which console is "best" for all players in some sort of a global way. It is going to come down to which console is best for YOU based on your specific gaming style.

If you're on a really tight budget and just want something better than the previous generation, go for a Wii. It's cheap, the graphics are better, and the remotes are great fun. It has Zelda :) If you have a larger budget and really want the high definition, you're now choosing between the 360 and the PS3. You really do have to look at the specifics of each, and think seriously about your gaming style, to see which matches you best. If I were to make a flip summarization, if you really love online gameplay, I'd go with the XBox 360. Its years of head-start really give it a robust environment here. If you are looking for more of a home-based one-machine media center for your MPs3, photos and huge world gameplay, I'd go with the PS3. It definitely has the advantage on large scale games.

After months of mulling it over, I decided to go with a PS3 over an XBox 360 or a Nintendo Wii. The reasons that I did so were as follows:

First, the PS3 is technically superior and more powerful than either the 360 or the Wii. Because of that, there is nothing that the 360 or Wii can do that the PS3 cannot do. And all of the advantages for the 360 (better game lineup and networking) or for the Wii (novel game play) could be overcome by the PS3 given the right amount of time (the PS3 game lineup for next year looks impressive, the networking should improve and the EyeToy coming for PS3 should counter the Wii's advantage).

Second, the PS3 60 GB gives you more for your dollars (even though it will take 600 of them) than the other systems. It includes a BluRay player, a 60 GB hard drive, a memory card reader and WiFi networking. If you tried to build an XBox 360 with the same specifications, it would end up costing you $300 more than the PS3. And the Wii is incapable of meeting these specifications.

Third, the PS3 is reverse compatible with most PS2 games preventing my PS2 library from becoming obsolete overnight.

That said, when I bought the system, I was a bit apprehensive given all of the criticisms that I had heard here and elsewhere. I did have high hopes for the system given its specifications but was afraid of buying the next NeoGeo. After a couple of days of playing, I can say that my expectations have been exceeded and my fears have proven to be unfounded.

I have had the system set up and playing for two days (not continuously of course) on a Samsung 720p/1080i 50" plasma screen with an HDMI hook-up. (Note: There is NO need to buy an HDMI cable over $20. Sony and Monster will try to sell you HDMI cables for almost $100. HDMI relies on a digital signal either you get it or you don't. I bought a $9 cable from an online retailer and have been doing quite well with it.)

I have played Resistance, Fight Night, the Grand Turismo Demo, the Genji demo and the MotorStorm demo. I have used the WiFi connection to play online as well.

The system has its pros and cons but the pros far outweigh the cons.

Pros:

Breathtaking next-gen graphics. The Grand Turismo High Definition demo shows off the power of the PS3. When playing GTHD, you almost forget that you are watching a computer animation the cars and track look entirely lifelike (the spectators not so much). Fight Night shows off impressive flesh reconstructions, lighting and details (e.g. the sweat on a fighter's face, the skin ripples on a knockout punch).

Hassle free wireless networking. There have been some drops but for the most part, the WiFi keeps us downloading and gaming as much as we need it. It provides a web interface and easy access to the PlayStation store and other PS3 users.

Peripheral possibilities. With four USB hookups in the front, the possibilities are many including a PS3 EyeToy and SingStar game.

An impressive 2007 lineup with Tom Clancy's Vegas, Assassin's Creed, Metal Gear Solid 4, Grand Theft Auto and a variety of other games coming out, the future for the PS3 is bright.

Extensive hard drive space. There is no need to skimp on demos or downloads.

BluRay player opens up next gen DVD to our home theater system.

SIXAXIS controllers open up the possibility of a fusion of traditional gaming with motion sensitive gaming.

Cons

Surfing the web with the PS3 WiFi connection is an exercise in frustration. I don't plan to surf the web on the PS3 anyway and this is more of an annoyance than anything else because the network and PlayStation store run quite smoothly on WiFi.

The smooth, plastic casing is a fingerprint and dust magnet. (Really not a big deal at all).

Overall, the PS3 is a solid system with spectacular potential in the hands of the right software developers. It only gets 4 stars for fun (as opposed to 5 overall) right now because of the limited game lineup (which may not be fair since this is a review of the console and not the lineup but a console is nothing without its playable games) but with time, those 4 stars should become 5.

Best Deals for PlayStation 3 60GB System

First off let me explain my setup.

I have a Samsung DLP 50'' that supports full 1080P.

xBox connected via HQ component cables with optical and PS3 via HDMI

I have had an xBox 360 for about 3 months (my first venture away from Sony) and a PS3 for 2 days.

I consider myself well versed on technology but by no means a savant like some of the posters at AVSforums.

The only thing I won't be able to compare right now (but will add it as soon as I get my hands on one) is the 360 HD-DVD vs. Blu-Ray for video playback.

****Overview*****

Both systems are solid next gen systems but both do come with their faults.

Overall I think the PS3 has greater potential given the undeniable advantage of built in Blu-Ray for games vs. the standard disc format the 360 is designed for. However that potential clearly hasn't been tapped yet. The fit and finish of the 360 is ahead of PS3 at this point.

Menus for 360 are much cleaner than the PSP-like PS3 menu screen.

From an actual physical appearance they are equally an eyesore.

Funny both systems want to be considered home entertainment hubs yet both deserve to be locked up in a closet. Microsoft why on Earth did you make a white box? How many people have white in their Home Theatre components? I suppose I could buy a face plate but don't feel I should have to pay extra to make something not look like a cheap piece of plastic. As for the PS3 I have to admit that I have this lying flat but this is by far the ugliest piece of my home entertainment setup. First off the base with the fan is both shorter an not as deep as the player itself giving it a very ugly boxy look which is only accentuated by the cheap silver material (everyone uses brushed chrome today).

But luckily looks are everything...

******Gameplay******

I'll start off with a review of games I have played on both systems since well that is why you buy a gaming console.

Games I have played for both would be Madden 07 and NHL 2k7

Games I have played just for PS3 Resistance.

Games I have played just for xBox Tiger Woods 07, GOW, Splinter Cell DA,

Dead Rising, Prey, WSOP, and I'm sure I'm missing a few.

I primarily play sports games and like as real to life gameplay as possible. I don't need the over the top hitting or ridiculous goal scoring. I prefer sports games that give you a true sim experience.

Madden 07 Edge graphics and gameplay PS3 / PS3 has slightly better graphics (just more realistic) and much better gameplay. Granted this is something 360 can catchup to next yr but for now a simple thing like gang tackling which has been sorely missing in football games gives PS3 a big advantage in my book. The player physics are much smoother as well, no more catching a ball and going backwards 5yds which is a huge problem in 360. All the menus or lack thereof and sound is identical to 360 which is a bit dissapointing.

NHL2K7 Graphics edge 360 gameplay big edge PS3 The graphics on 360 vs. PS3 are more detailed and crisp (for instance you can really see the jersey threading on the 360 moreso than the PS3 although you won't complain about the graphics on either.

But gameplay is another story. The PS3 version has much more realistic gameplay. You can actually turn the hitting down to a realistic level and I actually lose to the CPU on a regualar basis which is great. They also tightened up the fighting physics so that you aren't facing the wrong way half the fight. And yes the Sabres have their new uniforms (something every other console missed)

As for Resistance of Man I have to admit I'm not a huge fan of the 1st person shooters but I thought it was OK, graphics were not as good as say Splinter Cell DA or GOW and the game didn't have that WoW factor I was expecting which GOW certainly delivers.

From what I have seen thus far I would give the graphical edge to 360 and gameplay to PS3.

***Ancillary benefits***********

Where 360 has a huge edge is what it does outside of playing games.

xBox live is great (you get what you pay for) and very easy to use.

The PS3 menus are very bland but also easy to use it only took about 10 min to get up and running but the online experience just isn't there yet. I love being able to download game demos with the 360 ( Superman looks great)

One key feature of the 360 that gets little to no pub is the Windows Media Center extender technology. Just the ability to stream video from my Windows XP Media Center PC to my TV via the 360 is worth the price of admission alone. Why no one is talking about this is beyond me.

I can store dozens of movies, on my PC and access them very easily directly from my 360.

As for the Blu-Ray player itself I did watch Talledega nights (or at least as much as I could handle) And am very dissapointed with what is suppose to be 1080P. This looked only slightly better than what my DVD upscaler can produce and not nearly as sharp as regular cable HDTV programming which is only broadcast in 1080i.

Granted this is a small sample size and hopefully will improve but lets just say this won't help quell the negative pub. Blu-Ray has been receiving.

*****Summary**************

As an owner of both let me preface by saying I am satisfied with both systems. What the PS3 lacks in look and feel it makes up for in brute technology ie. built in Blu-Ray.

Both systems are clearly next Gen. I feel the PS3 is probably set up better to be the system that can carry you for the next 5-7 yrs (lets face it the PS2 had a good run) Simply because of the built in Blu-Ray.

Whereas the 360's fit and finish combined with the Media Center Extender technology give it an advantage today not to mention far superior online experience. Still without the HD-DVD drive for games I don't think this has nearly as long a shelf life not to mention the lack of HDMI will eventually catch up to them.

If you don't care about Blu-Ray and are looking for the best system as of right now, go ahead with the 360 you won't be dissapointed.

If you are looking at this as a long term solution )ie. you don't want to buy another system in 2-3 yrs. The PS3 is probably your better bet.

Now could someone kindly design a next-Gen system that physically looks next GEN!!!!!

Where to start.....the PS3 is an engineering masterpiece. There are so many reasons why you should upgrade from the PS2 to PS3. My main motivating factors were Blu-Ray (high-definition video) functionality, Bluetooth wireless controllers (better range and response), internal wireless (for online game-play and updates), HDMI 1.3 output with 1080p output, optical audio, and card slots for loading music, pictures, and video onto the massive 60GB hardrive. Seems expensive, but, in retrospect, its really not, there is a lot of value in the price.

I bought this again after getting Skyrim to relive the good old days and man let me say this..the gameplay is great now as it was then. Felt like a new game to me after so many years. And for 18 bucks to get the game and 2 of the biggest DLCs for it is just great. Also fun playing it after doing Skyrim to see the difference in gameplay.

To anyone new to Elder Scrolls that bought Skyrim, give this game a chance. Along with the other older titles.

I just wanted to let everyone know that this is a platinum hits version. The cover art looks like the old GOTY editions but when you recieve the game you will notice it is in a grey box instead of the lime green. Then when you open the box you will imediately notice the Platinum hits disks.

This doesnt really matter but I didnt know I was getting this version because it is not advertised as Platinum hits. Also dont expect there to be a game manual in it like the original came with , its just a sorry little 3 page pamplet with the controller layout and another pamplet advertising some game that I cant remember. I really was thinking I was getting the original GOTY edition with the map and full booklet. Oh well.

Now for what really matters. I have completed Skyrim and the expansion dlc dawnguard and also leveled all the way out to level 81. That is a most excellent game!!!!. I decided I wanted some more Elder Scrolls so I decided to pick up Oblivion. I can honestly say that I am not disappointed in the least. I went into this knowing the game was released in early 2006. So I knew the graphics and voice acting were not going to be up to the standards of Skyrim. The gameplay is almost identical to skyrim. The world is beautiful even with todays standards. The character movement seems to be no different than Skyrim. There are plenty of side quests to go along with the main quest line. So far I am really enjoying the Thieves Guild and Dark Brotherhood quest lines. Just as in Skyrim you can either do the main quest line or save it for later and do side quests like the Thieves Guild that actually have a story of their own. There is just so much to do and so many places to explore.

In conclusion I have to say to you. This is an excellent game with top notch game play that will keep you playing for hundreds of hours. I actually have friends that have been playing this game since its release date and still are playing it today. Go into this game with the mind frame that it was released in 2006. Im not downplaying anything about the game but if you go into it like that there should be no disapointment. Finally , the graphics and world of the game are beautiful , the gameplay top notch , so many hours of quests to even begin try and count. You could literally play this game for years and still not find or do everything. So If you are on the fence about this game climb on down and just buy it because in my humble opinion it has been well worth the money.

Note: ( dont forget that this is the platinum hits version and doesnt include the full release date manual , map and is incased in a gray platinum hits box. If you are looking for the original with the map , lime green box and original GOTY edition discs try somewhere else. Although I was a little disappointed with these few things the game itself is a 5 out of 5 stars and I do not regret my purchase. )

Best Deals for Oblivion (Game of the Year Edition) -Xbox 360

I have never played the Elder Scrolls games and with the hype of Skyrim I was very tempted to buy it. As a casual gamer who didnt want to spend the $50+ I decided to check out Oblivion. I was able to snag it for pretty cheap and it has been worth every penny. The graphics are great, though nothing like Skyrim. The gameplay pulls you in and half an hour quickly becomes an hour and a half or more. It will be some time before the next Elder Scrolls game comes out so if you are like me and new to it all then I recomend this game first and by the time you finish or get board Skyrim will be cheaper or be sold with an additional expansion pack. Playing Skyrim first, I suspect, will sour most peoples desire to go back and play this game even though its great.

Not gonna comment on the game as everyone already knows how awesome it is. This pretty much has the same content (base game, knights of the nine and shivering isles expansion) as the 5th anniversary edition sans the steelbook, the map, and the discount coupon for skyrim. The $10 price difference could go towards a guide for the book, which is much more useful than the 5th Anniversary extras

This is a great game and was steller for its time. Don't expect the graphics to amaze anymore (get Skyrim if you want that). If you want a quality RPG game that has many hours of gameplay and a very advanced skill/leveling system than this is for you. If you want a quick, boring shooter, then don't bother. This 'game of year edition' is great since it has two compreshensive add-ons. I got it on sale around Chistmas for about $15, but even at $20 it is a good deal.
