To me the one thing this video game generation has really missed out on is light gun games. I missed those things and really wanted to play some. But the only ones they really have on Xbox are the Cabela's games. I detest hunting but after watching some reviews of the games, they still looked pretty fun, so I finally broke down and bought it.

After I put the game in, the first thing I want to do is calibrate the gun so I can shoot straight. It turns out that this is entirely impossible. It has a target at the top left you're supposed to shoot to start calibration. But when I aim at the target, the game no longer recognizes my gun. It only recognizes the gun if I aim at the bottom middle and to the right. I try all kinds of stuff over the next hour. Moving the TV farther back, moving the sensor bar from the bottom of the TV to the top. Sitting on the couch, standing on the couch, sitting on the floor, standing behind the couch, pointing the TV left, pointing the TV right, taking pieces off the gun, putting pieces on the gun, changing batteries, changing games, curtains open, curtains closed, lights on, lights off, fully dressed, in my underwear, fully nude. Nothing works.

I turn to the internet. Lo and behold it turns out that these guns don't really seem to work for anybody. All of the documentation tells you that you need to have around 6 feet between you and the TV. What it does NOT tell you is that this ONLY applies to TVs under 32 inches. For anything bigger you need to be around 15 feet away from your TV. If you had trouble using Kinect, well good luck with this LIGHT GUN. Basically you need to put your TV at the end of a hallway to be able to use the thing and then you have to be a sniper to make any shots. Seeing how this is America 2012, I didn't even know they still sold 32 inch TVs.

The question is, how was this SOOOOOOO easy with Duck Hunt a 100 years ago, but with all this amazing technology of 2012, you have to have a empty warehouse for a living room in order to be able to do the same thing that was so simple then?

The other question is, how do these people get away with selling these guns when they absolutely are 100% unusable to most people?

The game itself is fun. I played it with a standard controller and it was pretty good but the whole time I felt like it would've been way better with the gun. It's not a game worth 60 bucks, but it's a few hours of fun.

going in with the cabelas name, and coming with a dedicated controller, I had high hopes for this game. The troubles started with setting up the gun controller. GOOD LUCK getting it calibrated. once I got it close to being "accurate" i tried the game. VERY simple and liniar. I admit it's fun using the gun to hunt and shoot, but using the controller for the action and climbing parts is awkward. If you make it through the game once, you will never pick it up again. even the party games arent fun.

Cabelas Survival with gun is quite fun. The game it self Shadows of Katmai is fun but I found it to be rather hard to play with the gun. The survival modes of the game are great. My sons and I spent hours chalenging each other to see who could get the best score. The gun performs well as long a you calibrate it properly.

Honest reviews on Cabelas Survival: Shadows of Katmai with Gun - Xbox 360

I agree with previous reviews when it comes to the gun...calibration is difficult at best. I gave up after 3 tries and just shot at the ceiling so I could at least go through the motions of playing the game to get a feel for it. I will try again to calibrate "the gun" and if it remains impossible I will do as some have claimed to do before me and use a regular controller. Good luck.

Do not get this game, the gun site is totally off. But the game itself is pretty cool from what we played of it.But the gun was the whole reason I bought this for my son hence why I rated it so low.

this is one of my favorite games of all time. it is set in a scene of constant crime and corruption. You play as a choice of a few different characters with different fighting styles and seek vengeance on the mob that runs the town. a great way to get anger out. it is graphic and has harsh language but it all just adds to making the game more realistic and a great time.

I was a huge fan of streets of rage, final fight and all those beat 'em ups, so I've always tried to find games like that. This is a little bit like but falls way short on almost all levels. You get to beat the crap out of generic baddies with a cheesy inner city plot. Gangs, betrayal, bad guys that are actually good guys and at times a bad irish accent. You can pick from a handful of run of the mill butt kickers and get some outfits and new moves. Typical stuff. Its fun but i'd probably be dissapointed if I hadn't nabbed it really cheap.

I am not a major league gamer and I may very well be the worst online racer ever! But that doesn't stop me from trying new things. I used to be great at Gran Turisimo (sp?) on Playstation (not 2 but 1). The next racing game I tried was Burnout but I didn't have the internet. I was pretty good. But when I got my 360 and got online with the same game. I was ALWAYS in last place. Then Burnout Paradise came out and now I had to drive around a city. I like arrows and directions and a track, not free open space. I like arcarde, blowing stuff up and dodging things, taking shortcuts! This all come in BLUR. I bought split/second first because I didn't like the beta of BLUR, and that game is okay compared to BLUR. I got BLUR yesterday and became addicted. I haven't been addicted to a racing game since Burnout Takedown on PS2. I love the style of the game. It feels very sleek and the cars look amazing. The career mode I never really do because I always lose, but even with my horrible driving I came in first on some races. The games is so fluid in motion and easy to play that even when I came in last, I didn't mind pressing retry. The career seems like it will get more difficult, pitting you again 20 CPU drivers. But I was glad to see my ranking for career didn't really seem to effect my ranking online. I started out a rank 1 and ending in rank 4 in one hour (even when I lost I got points!). The one person talking was very nice and it seems less skill driving then good timimg and hopefully some good aiming. I don't know how to drift for anything on this game, just can't do it! But I still came in 1st once. I will stop rambling on and give some pros and cons.

Pros

1. Fluid motion

2. Powerups (all of them) are fun and usefull

3. No great skill needed

4. Style is top notch

5. Great looking cars

6. You can customize powerups (damage and such)

7. You rank online is seperate from career

8. Fun enough to press retry if you fail

9. Haven't tried this yet but Local multiplayers!

Cons

1. Hard as...to drift!

2. Too much down time to reset your car if turned around

3. This really isn't a con but (Hard to dodge the missle like fireball coming at your from behind!!!!!!)

This game is like super mario cart on crack! You have some of the same kind of weapons so it all feels really familiar and just as mario is completely fun. I've played the multiplayer a lot and the different kinds of races are all extremely fun not to mention that it seems like they have an endless amount of tracks! My friend and I were playing last night for about five to six hours straight and still didn't see all the tracks. Racing death match, derby death match, and regular racing. They are all amazing and fun, If you're here looking for a multiplayer splitscreen offline or online game that's not just a racing game and is fun you've found it. Buy it my friends, buy it.

Cannot say bad things about this game, it is literally Mario Kart for adults. I feel like I'm playing an N64 with real cars, better graphics, and a lot more fun things involved.

Honest reviews on Blur - Xbox 360

This has been the biggest hit this Christmas besides Halo 4. We have three boys and a girl ranging in ages from 15 to 7. All four of them like to play together and dad likes to join in and help the youngest. They do say the cars are different from each other not just in body style but how they race. These differences often get the blame for losses rather than driver error! We don't have Wii and Mario Cart, but we think this is pretty close!

I love this game. It's like Mario Kart but without characters, and with realistic tracks/cars/etc. It's like other racing games, where you, well, race to the finish line, except you collect items to try to knock out your opponents. For example, you can drop mines on the track, and if someone hits one BOOM they get hurt pretty bad, and it sets them back (because everyone passes them). Lightening sets lightening fields on the track, which slows cars down if they run into them. And of course, there are healing and protection items you can collect to, to help yourself stay in the game. You can also play with up to four players (locally) and more online. It's a real fun game overall.

Team Fortress 2 - PC
Customer Ratings: 4.5 stars

One thing the first-person shooter genre has been tending towards in the last few years is an emphasis on gritty, realistic (or at least semi-realistic) gunplay. This is not a universally-loved proposition. Take a look at two screenshots from two different shooters, and chances are that if you aren't already an avid fan of the genre, you will not be able to tell them apart. The status quo is rather displeasing but who better to shake it up than Valve Software, who have already revitalized the genre twice with the 1998 hit Half-Life and its 2004 sequel? Their effort to this end is Team Fortress 2, and what a terrific game it is.

In spite of its title, Team Fortress 2 is in fact the third iteration in the Team Fortress series, which is known for being the first class-based multiplayer first-person shooter. When it was announced way back in 1999, Team Fortress 2 was supposed to have a highly realistic art direction, but along the way that decision was dropped in favour of a highly stylized art direction. The result is that TF2 looks like no other first person shooter on the market today. Valve has used some clever shading techniques to make both the characters and environments look like cartoon characters, with exaggerated anatomy, bright colours and incredible facial animation.

The audio is similarly inspired. While weapon and impact noises are as good as you would expect them to be, what really shines is the speech and music. The game has a consistent musical theme, and jingles that wouldn't sound out of place in a '60s spy thriller play at the start and end of each round. The characters themselves emote with gusto. Each character has three different unique taunts, and several context-sensitive voice clips that can be triggered at the push of a key. While they fulfil the obvious need for a way of communicating with your teammates, they also help to create what is perhaps the first multiplayer shooter in a long time with actual personality. Whether it's the Demoman's angry Scottish rants, the Medic's odd battle cry of "OKTOBERFEST!" or the Pyro's incoherent muffled yelling, the characters' oddball personalities really grow on you.

Aesthetics aren't everything, so it's a good thing that Valve is on the ball when it comes to gameplay as well. As noted earlier in this review, Team Fortress 2 is primarily a multiplayer game, much like Unreal Tournament and its ilk. Unlike those games, though, the focus here is on teams of players competing against each other to complete specific objectives on a variety of maps. These objectives can include stealing intelligence from the enemy team's base (this game's version of Capture The Flag) or capturing all the control points on a given map. There are several variations on the latter game type, each of which has its own subtleties. The most interesting game type is territorial control, which plays out as a series of smaller battles in a larger battle to control all the areas on a map. There's a lot of variety to be had here; the only possible complaint is that the game ships with only six multiplayer maps from the get-go (with two more available as free downloadable content), but this being a first-person shooter on the PC, there are already numerous high-quality user-made maps making the rounds, thanks to the free Source SDK and Hammer map editor released by Valve.

TF2 wouldn't be much of a Team Fortress game without its classes, and while each of the classes from TFC has made a return, they've all been changed quite drastically. Where TFC had more homogeneity with its classes (particularly with regard to weapon and grenade use) TF2 goes in the opposite direction, offering nine distinct classes with decidedly unique abilities. For instance, the Scout has low hit points, but is the fastest of all the classes, making him the ideal intelligence carrier or point capturer. On the other hand, the Heavy is slow, but can take significant punishment and deal out massive damage with his minigun, and is thus suited for major offensive pushes. The Medic is primarily a support class with poor offensive abilities, but he can also impart a ten-second invulnerability charge at intervals that can really serve to turn the tide of the match in his team's favour. And then there's the calculating, cerebral experience that is the Spy class. No two classes can really be played alike, assuring that even if you manage to master one class, the others are waiting to offer you a completely different gameplay experience every time you log on.

TF2 also implements some interesting features that may be a first for a first-person shooter. In an attempt to get people to keep playing, the game keeps track of your statistics for each round. If a certain player kills you several times, that player is marked out as your nemesis, and you get bonus points for getting revenge on him. Similarly you can dominate players on the other team by killing them repeatedly. In addition, the game uses these stats to reinforce the sense that you're getting better as you play, pointing out little achievements from the previous round, like new records for maximum kills in a single spawn, time spent alive and so on. It's a nice trick to keep players interested in their own progress and keep them playing. However, the most curious of the new features is the critical hit system critical hits are randomly awarded to players on each team, and the chance of getting a critical hit depends on various factors, such as how well you're playing or what weapon you're using. It's an interesting twist, one not usually seen in FPSes, and it's rare enough not to be gamebreaking.

As far as the multiplayer experience goes, TF2 is the first game to benefit from the enhancements to Valve's Steam content delivery service. This means the inclusion of things like achievements, a unified friends list that lets you join your friends' games with a single click, stat tracking and a robust server browser. The multiplayer experience is of a very high standard, and the game is eminently playable even when your ping starts to scrape the low 200s. Full in-game voice chat support is also included, and is crucial if you want to work effectively with your team to win games. The robustness of the online service ensures that more often than not, your TF2 experience will be unhindered by network hiccups.

All in all, Team Fortress 2 is a great multiplayer first-person shooter that will be fondly remembered by many for years to come. It's rare that a game with such a long development cycle turns out to be such a well-polished and high quality affair, so players would do well to savour what this game has to offer. Personality, gameplay, balance TF2 has it all, and is a must-play for any fan of the genre (and maybe even for those who aren't).

NB: I've reviewed the PC version here. As a personal note, I strongly recommend that anyone with an interest in this title pick up the PC version, either through Steam, by purchasing the Orange Box, or the new standalone retail version that comes out this week. The console versions simply do not match up, in that they don't have most of the new content that has arrived on the PC version, and lack the ability to take advantage of the excellent community-generated content.

Click Here For Most Helpful Customer Reviews >>

The game is very well balanced with 9 classes with unique abilities and weaknesses. Valve continues to update and add more maps all the time. The animation and voice over work will have you chuckling as you intensely battle for intelligence and capture points. Be aware that this game is only for online play, and has no single player. So good luck and have fun.

When I initially wrote my review, I wasn't aware of the differences between free-to-play and the retail version. Someone commented that the retail version allows you to have a larger backpack and to trade items with others whereas the free version does not. Had the free option been available when I bought the game, I probably would have opted for the free version.

All in all, this game is super fun and highly addicting. If there is any question in your mind about if it's worth it, just download it from Steam and try it out for free. If you get to the point where you need the trading, bigger backpack, then purchase the retail version from Amazon ($10 cheaper than Steam last time I checked).

Honest reviews on Team Fortress 2 - PC (Collector's)

This game is FREE TO PLAY now. All you have to do is download Steam from Valve software (even if you bought this you'd have to install steam). There is absolutely no reason to buy this unless you feel like giving Electronic Arts free money. Otherwise the game is polished and you could really get into it if you like team based multiplayer shooters.

This is a good game that was an amazing value when I got it as part of the Orange Box. Now Valve has released it (6-23-11) free through their Steam client, hoping to make further money off of micro transactions (like hats?). I wouldn't be buying it at this point. Just get it free through STEAM.

The last installment of the Final Fantasy series on Playstation reached stores nationwide in a very low-key manner. The anticipation and exhilaration that associate with the release of Final Fantasy games have obviously lessened. I uncharacteristically DID NOT pick up the new game on the first day it released. Honestly, I was not too excited about the release of this game due to 3 major reasons: 1) Square's quality of work has been questionable these recent years, 2) relatively short period of time has passed since we have seen FF8, 3) the Final Fantasy series has been evolving so much that I was not sure I would still get the same thrill I got when I played FF IV on SNES.

I was not a bit disappointed.

Right from the beginning, Square shows again that FF9 is a product of quality. Even though it has only been one year since the release of FF8, this new installment does not show sign of a rushed production. I could not help but notice and appreciate the amount of effort and passion that were infused into the game. I could say with FF9, Square really strengthens my faith in the FF series, wins my heart, and brings me back to the good old days.

Graphic is one of the first elements that attracted me. The color scheme is very well used to create a nice blend of the whole composition. I did not like the color scheme in Chrono Cross at all because everything is so bright and sticks out like an eye sore. Background, characters, and environment are very well designed in such way that you find unity and harmony. Needless to say, CGs from Square are always top notch, first rated, state of the art quality. The injunctions of CGs are proper, and served to extend the flow of events; nevertheless, they are wonderful eye candies that I cannot get enough of.

Sound, I agree with most critics, still plaques the FF series on the current PSX platform as unsatisfactory. By no measure that the sound is not good, we just think that it could easily be better, given the experience that the composer Nobuo Uematsu possesses, and the quality of music the PSX can perform. I have to say the sound is good enough for me, and I particularly enjoy the polished quality of various sound effects in through out the game.

Do not expect any revolution in the gameplay department. Square just delivers what you would have expected from a FF game. I could not see anything special about the battle system other than it is simple. Yes, people will still complain about the random battles. I did enjoy the employment of materia and junction system in the previous 2 games; therefore I hope Square could have incorporated something special to make the battle system a little more interesting. Mini games and side tasks that are scattered throughout the game are both interesting and fun to play with.

Overall, the game rocks! It has been a long time since I played a good and quality RPG or game on PSX, I greatly enjoy Final Fantasy 9. The story is nothing spectacular but is delivered and presented very well with nice flow of events and timely unfolding of plots. Bottom line, Final Fantasy 9 is great game that I enjoy playing. Graphic, Presentation and Value outweigh minor imperfection of sound and gameplay. Square has successfully perpetuated the legend of the Final Fantasy series.

Ok, I'll admit it... I thought 8 was alright... but nowhere near the level of excellence that the Final Fantasy series had lived up to in the first 7 games. It made me lose a lot of respect for the series that I've been playing for over 10 years now.

IX has restored that completely. I wouldn't go so far to say that 9 is the greatest FF game... but it's definitely up there.

Being an AVID fan (I have 15 FF titles on 4 systems and still play them all...), I'm glad to see the guys return to the old school, take their minds off graphic eye-candy and special effects (yup, that's right... less CG... and downright cheezy character graphics! I love it!), and put it back where it belongs in the RPG genre: The interaction, dialogue, and storyline here are all divine. I'd go into more detail but I don't want to ruin the surprise. :)

The character work in IX is so much better than what we've seen in recent games... they are personable, and have real depth. Take Zidane for example: the first FF hero since 6 to be a relatively social character. They also all serve a purpose in the game at some point in time... there are no Yuffies or Gaus here wasting space in your lineup and costing you wasted money for the one time in the game you'll actually use them. Even the most doubtful-seeming characters in FF9 (Quina being the first to come to mind) turns out to be a steady contender with good abilities and genuine usefulness.

All you power gamers out there that loved 6, 7, and 8 because *everyone* could use magic to ridiculous results... you're gonna hate this. Yes, there are wizards again now (all hail FF 1-5) and if you're not a wizard, you're not casting. I don't know about anyone else but this makes ten times more sense to me. It also adds something to the game that the last two were missing completely: a *challenge*. Any hardcore FF'ers will agree with me on this one: 7 and 8 were ridiculously easy. Not to say that 9 is going to kick you around... (I'm on my first replay and am yet to see a "Game Over" screen...) but at least you'll have to stop and think from time to time.

The battle and ability systems are simplified. No more sitting in front of your TV for an hour at a time digging through 50 billion junction abilities. You learn just 2 types of abilities: Battle abilities like spells for your wizards, lance attacks for Freya, thief attacks for Zidane, etc etc... and Indirect abilities that enhance your character in some way, like Auto-Regen or Auto-Potion, different status immunities, and HP/MP extensions. These items are learned by equipping your items, with a system similar to the Esper system in 6 or the Materia in 7. Except everyone can't just learn everything this time... For example: Don't even bother sticking a summon jewel on Zidane to teach him how to call forth Ifrit to burn your enemies... he can't do it :)

The only thing that may be confusing at first until you have the time to get used to it is the Synthesis shops. Basically what you do here is combine 2 items to get a different one, that cannot be bought... only found or synthesized. One tip regarding the Synth shop that I learned my first time through the game: DO NOT SELL ANYTHING, unless you have more than 2 of the same item. Sometimes you'll end up needing something old to synthesize a new item when it becomes available through your travels... if you sell the old stuff, it's sometimes hard to find it again. If you need money, there are 2 great ways to get it besides selling your stuff: Fight monsters, and steal & sell Ether (1000 gil per bottle.)

Now that's as close as I'll get to a spoiler.

My last rant: Yes, it's true... Final Fantasy 9 is a melting pot of all the first 8 FF games, and you *will* see a lot of things you've seen before... and even some references to characters and events from other games. If you can't deal with that, don't buy the game... IX isn't the breakthrough that VII was... but it's also not the disappointment VIII turned out to be. It's simply a creation from the legends at Square to reach a hand out to the new school ... and to win the hearts of the old school, as they prepare to head into yet another new frontier of gaming. Remember, this is the last game of its kind... ever. When 10 is released next year, everything is going to change.

Enjoy it while it lasts. I know I will.

Best Deals for Final Fantasy IX

Final Fantasy IX goes back to its cartoony roots, setting aside the gorgeous characterizations of FF8. While FF8 was like playing characters in a well done anime movie, FF IX has you controlling rounded, playful looking characters that give the game more kid-appeal.

The graphics in general are stellar. The opening sequence, the animation of water, of birds, of fire, and of other things normally challenging to an animation crew are amazing to watch. Gameplay graphics are quite good, although at times the pretty backgrounds can make finding an object or figuring out an exit to a room a bit difficult.

FF IX is a bit restrictive in its characters. Your thief, mage, knight, and "princess healer" each need to pretty much specialize within their class. Each can find special items to help them learn and grow, and choose how to aim their growth. This can be done automatically for new players, or with great attention to detail for the more advanced gamers.

Battle is also nice in this way beginners can have the game pause while they choose exactly which magic to fire at their enemies, while those wanting a challenge can have the entire battle run in real time, depending on quick reflexes and fast fingers. In addition to the players, there are also 'helpers', or Eidolons, which add to the drama of a battle.

Active Time Events (ATE) will show up occasionally to fill you in on the storyline, showing short movies of things happening elsewhere in the game. These are well done if you've already seen a particular ATE from a different game, you can simply bypass these. Some ATEs help progress the plot, while others give the player help with new commands.

In all, this is a great game for all playing levels. New and young gamers can set the game up so it gives you time to think during combat, and helps out out with skill setting. Advanced players can tweak all of the details themselves, and immerse themselves in the challenging card games that are part of the plot. There's something in it for everyone!

Honest reviews on Final Fantasy IX

In my opinion, SquareSoft is one of the greatest video game companies and their Final Fantasy games are the best RPGs you can get. Of all the games in the series, the latest entry Final Fantasy IX is my favorite.

With its ninth installment, Square has gone back to a medieval theme and is using a more colorful graphics scheme. This differs from Final Fantasy VII's and VIII's futuristic settings and their dark, realistic graphics, but I always did like the castles and colors of the first Final Fantasies, so Final Fantasy IX suits me fine. Also, it has some of the best music I've ever heard--even better than Chrono Cross'. And the story is more complex and interesting than Final Fantasy VIII's; it's more like VII's where the characters are a mystery and each has his or her own story to tell. And since the characters are developed well, I found that I liked practically every one of them--in Final Fantasy VIII I only really liked Squall and Rinoa.

Final Fantasy IX has my favorite battle system of the series. First, Magic Points are back, so you can't just keep casting spells to your heart's content; you'll first have to make sure you have enough Magic Points. Another welcome return is the challenge of battles; even normal enemies can come close to defeating you, whereas in Final Fantasy VII and VIII, only the bosses ever pose a threat. Like Finaly Fantasy VI for the PlayStation (Final Fantasy III for the Super Nintendo), each character has his or her own special ability. For instance: the main character Zidane is the only one that can steal items from enemies, and Vivi, a young Black Mage, is the only one gifted in using Black Magic. To teach the characters more "Action Abilities" you'll have to equip them with items that harness new powers. Here's how it works: say Vivi is equipped with a staff that has the "Action Ability" Thunder. As long as Vivi has that staff equipped, he'll be able to use the spell Thunder, but if he removes the staff, he will no longer have its powers. So he will have to battle with that staff until he learns Thunder. Once the powers are learned, he can equip a different weapon and be on his way to learning its powers while still retaining the spell Thunder.

The characters will also learn "Support Abilities" from items. These are abilities that support the characters during battles and are always in effect, meaning you do not have to use them first. But you can't have all your "Support Abilities" active at once since you are limited by your supply of "Magic Stones." Each character has a certain number of these stones, and the number will slowly increase as the character levels up. You equip the required amount of these stones to each "Support Ability" that you wish to be active. For example: Zidane has 11 "Magic Stones" and the "Support Abilities" Counter (randomly counters an enemy's attack) and Antibody (protects the character from being poisoned). Since Counter requires 8 stones to be equipped and Antibody requires 4, Zidane can only equip one until he levels up and gains another stone. This system gives you a nice opportunity to customize your characters.

In battles characters may also perform special maneuvers once they go into a "Trance." This is similar to Final Fantasy VII's "Limit Break." Each character has a "Trance Gauge" that slowly fills up as he receives damage from enemies. Once the gauge is filled, the character enters a "Trance" and can perform his own personal ability. If Vivi enters a "Trance," he gains, for that battle, the ability to cast two spells in the same turn.

Throughout the game there are many events that you can get into--from jumping rope, to collecting cards, to even delivering letters. But my favorite has to be treasure-hunting with a chocobo. (If you're new to the series, a chocobo is a birdlike creature that serves as a horse.) Sometime during the game, you'll get a chocobo, which will be able to use its beak to dig up "Chocographs" (treasure maps) in certain areas. These "Chocographs" tell you the whereabouts of treasures by showing you a small picture of an area on the World Map and giving a hint to its location. But your chocobo may not be able to get to the location until it gains the ability to cross certain terrains. At first your chocobo can only cross over plains, but as it finds more treasures it will gain the ability to cross shallow waters, mountains, etc.

Final Fantasy IX is definitely my favorite in the series and may even be my favorite game ever. With its likeable characters, improved battle system, and fun mini-games, I think anybody who enjoys RPGs will have some of their greatest gaming moments playing this title. Well done, Square!

This is one of the best Final Fantasys yest! I love how it has gone back to its old FF roots of fantasy ONLY! I also enjoy how the job system is somewhat back (with some exceptions). Now only mages can cast spells and warriors use swords...it's great! The characters may look wierd (I like it!) and not be as serious as the Cloud from FF7 or Squall from FF8 (I like it beacuse they aren't nearly as stubborn...Zidane is actually quite outgoing and clever...) but they are certainly a great cast (better than) for the last FF game on the PS console! Also, the game holds a bit more difficulty than the last three games...not that much more though... The game, unfortunately, is more linear than any so far. Where exploration and gameplay lack, the story excells and the FMV's are absolutely incredible. This is also one of my favorite RPG's and Final Fantasy games (FF6 and 7 among others...). A definete buy for any RPG (ANY!)

I had never played a WORMS game before purchasing WORMS 3D for PS2. I have to say I was impressed by how much fun I had. It took a while to get used to the controls, but the tutorial helped quite a bit. This is a great new game for only $29.99.

You get to go through different environments where your army of worms battles another army of worms utilizing weapons and skillful maneuvering. One of my favorite things about the game is when you fire a weapon, the environment will change due to the incurred damage from your weapons. This makes it more challenging and makes you think before you make a move... especially in multiplayer mode. And yes, you have to share a controller in multiplayer mode... big deal, it doesn't take away from the fact that the game is fun.

The worms are also pretty comical, their accents crack me up.

For less than $30... how can you pass it up? It's well worth the money, much better than paying $50.00 on other games... give it a try, it'll be worth it.

I first played Worms on my PC back in 96-97. I played it for hours with my friends. The 2D world was simple and easy to understand. The third dimension just added a lot of ambiguity to the game play. It's near impossible to use the wind to your advantage in 3D and the camera angles make aiming for opponents you cannot see very hard. Some people may enjoy this game, but I don't think anyone who loved the original 2D version will like this at all.

Four years after playing at WORMS 2 for the first time, I could not believe it when I first heard about the 3D version of one of my favorite game. When I opened the box and put it in my PS2 and played, I re-lived the same exciting feelings of fun that had hit me when I discovered the previous version. For somedy who already played, five minutes will be enough to get going, for newcomers, it might be good to do the training missions and play versus yourself a little bit before going to harder missions like 'Challenges' or 'CPUvsHUMAN'. The adaptation to the console is perfect even for the cameras wich you cannot play without and the 3D effect is very good for something so fast paced. Finally, when they right 'There are thousands and thousands of landscapes possible' they really mean it. You can be anuywhere in any kind of field and scenery. Of course, you are always surrounded by water and death by drowning is very frequent. If you never played buy it, if you played prior versions, buy it anyway.

Have Fun

This is a solid effort from Visceral Games. The game plays very similar to God of War I/II but the leveling system seems richer with more possible combos and the morality element (absolution or damnation) adds a unique twist to finishing moves and your overall leveling progression. The real standout for Dante is the artwork. The environments are beautifully rendered (if you can say that about hell) and wonderfully creative. I haven't finished the game yet but I can't wait to see the additional circles. Overall I think reviewers were a bit too critical with this one. Some were sensitive to the use of the underlying fiction and others feel it too closely resembles GOW. My personal opinion having read the Inferno is that it's a lot of fun to see the environments and characters in visual form (obviously the story has little / no overlap) and that what makes GOW great makes Dante's Inferno a blast to play too. Imitation is not a bad thing here.

When I first heard about a Dante's Inferno video game a year ago, I instantly got excited with goosebumps. While I never finished reading the actual book, I was aware enough of it to know what the game was being based on and knew it had the makings of a great video game. As soon as they would allow me, I pre-ordered the game.

A few days before the game's release, reviews started showing up online and with great interest I read them.. every single review, ALL OF THEM made out Dante's Inferno as a failed attempt to clone a gaming series called God Of War and rated the game somewhat poorly for doing so. I was bothered by this. I'm old enough to know that a review is only one person's opinion and that just because "Sam" didn't like a game doesn't mean "Tom" won't. So, I was going to get the game anyway. As for God Of War, I'd heard of it before, but I'm probably one of the few people that has NEVER EVER played that game, as I do not own a PS3.

So, the big day came and I got my copy of Dante's Inferno, along with BioShock 2 at a GameStop midnight launch. I chose to play Dante's Inferno first.. and wow! What a thrill ride it has been thus far for me. I ended up devoting that first day to the game as the game's story and fast paced adventure absolutely took over me. And while playing it, I didn't think about all the 6.5 and 7.0 scores reviewers were giving the game.. when my mind would stray, I would think about how all those reviewers said God Of War was better. Really? Because if God Of War is better than Dante's Inferno, then, my God, God Of War must be absolutely EPIC. For the first time in years, I actually want a PS3 now just to see, because I'm enjoying Dante's Inferno THAT MUCH. The game is a blast to play.. but no, not perfect. My only real complaints is that there are a few cheap death spots.. most notably on the level for GREED and I'm not a big fan of quick-time events. But beyond those areas, the game rocks hard.

As for BioShock 2.. the game I got along with Dante's Inferno. I've devoted a day to it, as well. Completely different kinda game. More slower paced, but great, as well. For now, though, I'm actually enjoying Dante's Inferno more.

No SPOILERS. This is not a "bad" game (my review is really 3.5 stars, but that's not possible here). Five years ago, this game could have been all the rage. But it's horribly derivative now. But if this was just a God-of-War knockoff, that would be okay nothing wrong with going with what's good. Problem is, it's not. It's nowhere near as good, even after being later in time. Unless you're a DIE HARD for this genre (GOW, Devil May Cry, Rygar anyone?), you will find this game kind of boring if you've played some of the other titles recently. I would rent or borrow this first. Because I'm an addict I payed $56 to get it on release day I wish I would have waited. There is nothing horrendous about this game, just nothing great hence 3 stars.

STORY

The "story" is there Dante Alighieri's Divine Comedy (with some twists), but it doesn't seem to be intertwined with the action. It's kinda like story...action...story...action rather than one blended product. I rarely felt like it "mattered" (unlike say ME2).

GAMEPLAY

As for the gameplay, this really truly is a hack and slash again, not necessarily a bad thing but just hacking and slashing wave after wave of demon gets boring rapidly. Yes, you can use combos and some combos are cool, but you hardly ever need to. I'm mixed on the "puzzles" and on puzzles in general in games. In this game, they're out of place, and rather easy. Again, not necessarily bad (See where this is going? Not bad, just not great...).

VISUALS/GRAPHICS

The visuals are quite stunning though and kudos for the 60 FPS gameplay soon the be the industry minimum if you ask me. But the camera is annoying as all, well, hell. It's so awkward that it's a "fixed" camera unlike the MANY next-gen games that we're all used to where we have much more control over the camera. This takes away from the visual presentation IMO. I absolutely hate it.

VALUE

You can get through this game in about 12 hours. And I don't think there is any real reason to play it again. At $56, that's just not enough value for a game that's really nothing special. I'd wait till it's bargain bin or rent it or borrow it. At about $29, this game would be well worth it. In fact, I'll probably sell my copy now that I've finished it...

Honest reviews on Dante's Inferno - Xbox 360

A long time ago I picked up a role-playing game at Gen Con titled "Abyss" which was a reimagining of "Dante's Inferno" on steroids. It was gloriously violent, decadent, and imaginative. When the Open Game License was released for Dungeons & Dragons came out, I was convinced this was the chance for "Abyss" to triumphantly return and, after tracking down the license holder and a publisher, wrote an entire book for the game. But then the 4th Edition of D&D was released and the publisher's interest waned. "Dante's Inferno," the video game by Visceral Games, is what I imagine that tabletop game would have looked like.

When I completed my manuscript I sent it to my cousin, a renowned scholar) on "Dante's Inferno." He demurred criticism, explaining that he had never played a video game before (it was a tabletop game remember) but that he appreciated the effort. I imagine that's the response most people familiar with Dante Alighieri's "The Divine Comedy" will feel about this game: it's not very accurate, but if the kids are interested in literature that's a good thing, right?

In the video game, Dante Alighieri (Graham McTavish) is transformed from an Italian poet to a Templar Knight on the Third Crusade. A deeply flawed warrior, he manages to break his vow to Beatrice (Vanessa Branch) before slaughtering Muslim prisoners of war at the city of Acre. Sin and death surrounds Dante, from his doomed fellow crusader and brother-in-law Francesco (Tom Tate) to his brutal father Alighiero (JB Blanc) to his forlorn mother Bella (Pollyana McIntosh). Dante's disillusionment is central to the belief that as a Templar his soul is untouched by the murders he commits it is a credit to "Dante's Inferno" that it takes on such weighty matters as the Papal Bull of the Crusade. But Dante is one tough mother, so when he is stabbed in the back and death comes for him, Dante wrestles the Geiger-like scythe from him and proceeds on a quest to return to Beatrice...only to discover that Satan has absconded with her soul into hell. Thus begins Dante's descent, accompanied only by the poet Virgil (Bart McCarthy).

And that's the part we've all been waiting for: fighting in literature's most infamous hellscape. The nine circles of hell are lovingly (hatefully?) inspired by Hieronymous Bosch and other medieval artists: ferrying with Charon, battling Minos, resisting Cleopatra, slaying the many-mouthed Cerberus, facing his father's greed, and overcoming the gigantic fire demon Phlegyas.

It's impossible not to learn about the original text by playing "Dante's Inferno" a quote flies at you every time you die. There are a variety of damned souls throughout that can be saved or condemned through mini-games which in turn gives you new powers, all of them drawn from the poem. You can't help but admire a game that's willing to teach you a piece of classic literature even as you beat it up.

There are a lot of flourishes in "Dante's Inferno" that have nothing to do with the poem and everything to do with its predecessors, "Devil May Cry" and "God of War," from the big honking scythe to the fact that Dante can fight for up to ten seconds in mid-air, from the completely unnecessary tassels that dangle from his arms to the power-ups that reward you for button mashing. This is a game where strategy is not so much rewarded as beaten out of you. And yet "Dante's Inferno" is also a jumping, puzzling game, brutally uncompromising in sending Dante to his doom. The medium difficulty is just about right for fighting but makes many of the other challenges too hard; the easy setting makes the various puzzles surmountable but the fighting too easy.

By the sixth circle the creative team behind "Dante's Inferno" seems to have run out of steam. Whereas in the previous circles we were gifted with whirling two-headed demons that spilled gold, corrupt infants with blades for hands, moaning temptresses with tentacles unfurling from their abdomens, and shuddering behemoths of disgusting filth, the sixth circle just starts repeating itself. We get horned demons, then horned demons with axe and shield, and then horned demons with wings and two swords that can turn into flames. The eighth circle with its ten "bolgie" is the worst, as a narrator explains the sinners and sins rather than actually showing them after spending hours with wailing corpses flailing, boiling, and skewered, it's obvious the design team ran out of ideas and budget. Things don't pick up again until the last circle, when you face down Satan himself. Compared to earlier battles, the final fight was a cakewalk.

The end of "Dante's Inferno" isn't the end of course in the game or in the poem but it will be interesting to see if Visceral Games can make Purgatory just as compelling.

A lot of people say this game is like having God Of War for the 360. Well... the game has a similar gameplay but definitely the storyline is way different. I read the Divine Comedy by Dante Alighieri and let me tell you, the game is way more enjoyable if you read the book first. So from the book's perspective, this game is a very good approach. Of course the game does not cover all topics from the book but still the main thing is there.

I personally like all these hellish and demonic themes. Dante's Inferno portrays in a good way all this inferno world. There are scary parts like when you arrive to the Limbo and you meet these babies with hooks instead of arms... and when you hit them, you listen them crying as newborn babies... damn... this is scaring. You see also people trapped in the walls, all of them mourning and crying. So in a way this game depicts the experience of being in hell, for sure a terrible place. There are putrid corpses all around, blood and fluids, impaled people, and a lot of satanic environments. I just love it :)

There are interesting things in the gameplay such as collecting souls and exchanging them for new abilities, once in a while and after certain combats you get some sorts of magic and from time to time you find people that must be absolved or punished. Depending on your decisions through the game, your virtue or evil will grow, allowing you to reach new abilities for each mood.

Yesterday I was playing and I came to a point when Beatrice, Dante's wife, was being kissed by Lucifer in an spectacular cinematic. God ... this game is dark... very dark.

If you play it fast, maybe you'll see the game falls short but I like to take my time to see every detail on screen... so for me the game's length is fine. The bosses are hard to beat, so you'll have your hands busy with this game. The colors, sounds and graphics in general are amazing.

The game is definitely worth its price. I recommend it if you like dark themes and of course if you are a dedicated gamer. Don't think about the God of War thing, you'll enjoy this game as much as you have enjoyed your GOW.

I've been an avid gamer since high school and after Nintendo continuously updated and outdated their systems from year to year, this game eventually became something I could never play anymore. After a few years of swearing off games, I eventually returned to Playstation thanks to their respect for their customer and their efforts to make their previous consoles games playable on the newer systems.

This comes at a price though. Gone, is the games that are just plain guilty time wasting wholesome fun. Nearly every game that is made these days involves war, sports, death, darkness and dread. Games like "Dusty Diamond All-Star Softball" are a thing of the past and it says a lot that every so-often I long to play this game again. It wasn't complicated. It was a simple and beautiful thing. It was a schoolyard pick-em. There were a group of kids who all had different abilities. Some were fast. Some were slow. Some had great arms. Some had so-so arms. Some had power. Some didn't. Some were more suited to be catchers and some were more suited to be centerfielders. You picked your team. The computer picked their team and you played a game on your choice of softball field. Simple as that. Fun as could be.

GAMEMAKERS of today: Make this game again! Add to it though. Call it "Schoolyard Games", I don't care. Make it where there are dozens of kids, studs, dorks, goths, nerds, slow, fast. Have you and your friends do a schoolyard pick-em and play games like Softball, Basketball, 4-square, 8-square, dodgeball, football, hockey, tennis, soccer, volleyball. Have tournaments. The kids should have different personalities and looks.

The gaming world needs to lighten up and this would be a great game to do that. They sort of flirted with it with the game "Bully" on the ps2, but of course, they had to make "Bully" about beating people up and violence. Stepping down from my soapbox but hoping that someday I can play that game.
