Not a Bad Buy at allllll. much cheaper then the sony one. its great for most games but let me warn you that Shooter games will be more difficult to handle due to the analog sticks. hard to explain to be honest. they dont always let you Aim your gun Accurately and can realy screw you over. as for a racing games or other such games its a great product. it looks veryy identical to a Brand Sony Controller with minor different Details. i hade no issues with any of the bottons, though you will notice there not as easy to push in as sony brand. the bottoms will take a bit more of force. also yes the Wireles DOESS work on this controller. it was already fully charged when i got it but i hade to sync it with my USB Cable Wire. it does NOT include its own wire so you must already have one. not sure how long it will last without the wire connected but i did play wireles for 2 full hours, im sure itl last even longer. good buy, but not the best for shooters.

I got this because my boys constantly try to destroy my OEM PS3 controllers, they can take this one apart without fear of losing a $50 Control. It looks and feels like an original, And it plays well on both Ps3 And PC. For the price ill take three. I dont like buying cheep items but this is OK less the 20 bucks..Groovy

Don't let the title of this game throw you. Almost undoubtedly, many PS2 owners will overlook this game, thinking it's simply kid's stuff. Well, know now that Sly Cooper is the most original game to come along in quite awhile, and for kids and adults alike, it's one of the best titles out there, hands down. Everything, from gameplay to presentation, is perfect, and it's truly a rewarding gaming experience.

The game is a typical 3D platformer, with the hero, Sly Cooper, master thief, trekking through various locales in hopes of restoring the five pieces of his "Thievius Raccoonus", his family's great book of stealing. The book was torn apart by the group known as the Five Fiends, and now, it's up to Sly and his buddies to overcome the villians and steal what is rightfully theirs.

The graphics are splendid, taking full command of the PS2's capabilities with gorgeous -and fitting -cel-shading. The voice-acting, while a little hokey, has its moments, but the real prize of the game is its overall presentation. From opening credits to cut-scenes, Sly Cooper weaves a fun, truly original tale that can only beg for more sequels.

The gameplay is precise, with Sly a cinch to control. A quick tutorial mission acts as the first "stage," so novice gamers will have no problems figuring out how to make Sly climb, jump, swing, and do other marvelous things with his unique cane. Special "Super Sneaky" moves are available with a simple press of a button, and special techniques can be unlocked by finding "clues" (bottles) throughout the levels. These special techniques are fun to use and add some flavor to the game, but they're not necessary to complete your missions.

With colorful characters, memorable villains, rewarding gameplay, rich graphics, and a terrific story, Sly Cooper should find its way onto your PS2 soon. It won't take many days to finish, but the ride through is well worth it!

I was lucky enough to pick this up used at Blockbusters for a very reasonable price. I bought it based on the reviews I had read here. My 7 year old daughter immediately began to play it and has been going at it for a few days now. She has reached 40% completion now, so it has not been a terribly difficult game up to this level, but she has had to replay several sections more than once in order to continue. The game save works very nicely and you can start your saved game up quickly with a minimal load time. The fastest I have seen so far. It also hasn't sent her back to the beginning after Sly dies, avoiding frustration. We also have Ratchet & Clank as well as Jak & Daxter, but this one seems to hold her attention more. It may be that this is a more linear game, where she doesn't get stuck wandering around on an island, wondering where to go next. With this game, you just keep going forward and the obstacles appear right there, sort of like the old style Crash Bandicoot games. This game is also a pleasure to watch as the graphics are so nice. Put this on your list of games to buy, but be patient, find a good deal on it to make it all the more enjoyable.

Hmm... I wonder. Can I still give this game a perfect 5 stars despite the fact that it is not perfect? Sure I can! Why? Because the flaw is only in your mind!

Ok ok, now that I have you all confused, I guess I'll just have to explain myself. Everything about this game is utterly phenomenal, the Graphics drip with style and flair, the Sound is exceptionally well done, Gameplay is pure gaming goodness (my second favorite kind also, platformer), the Plot will grasp you tight, and well.. then there's the Replayability. I will break everything down individually though, so that you can see more clearly what I think of this masterpiece.

Graphics: 5 stars

For all those of you who have been living under a rock, in a cave, or on the moon these last couple of months, a new kind of graphics craze is headed to gaming, ''Cell-Shading.'' Cell-shading is a technique that makes 3d animations look like cartoony sprites, but still retains a sharp crisp look. Unfortunately, many of these games end up looking like a kiddy title because of this. Sly Cooper however is able to master this design by mixing cell-shaded characters and objects with pure three dimensional backgrounds. The result is quite astounding and you'll even enjoy watching other people play the game (but you'll like playing it more yourself). Every level but one runs at a fantastic 60 fps, beautifully sharp and quick. There is a little slowdown in the swamp level of Mz. Ruby due to the enormous amount of detail, but that hardly makes the level unplayable. With this great level of detail and a useful first person binocu-com view, you'll often find yourself staring at the beauty in amazement.

Sound: 5 stars

There aren't really any scores of music, but rather on-going dynamic tracks or themes for the levels. What I mean by dynamic is that the current situation affects the way the music is played. Many games have used this idea recently but SC&TR really masters it, creating an almost emotional result. I truly got frightened when I was seen by one odd looking guard in the haunted swamp; the music turned from its eery low flow to a blaring roar of sounds that quickly got my attention to the fact that I was in trouble. The music really also sounds like spy or thief music, which is a pretty impressive feat, it quiets down when you're in ''sneaking'' mode, and it just makes you feel like an overall badass. The main draw here I would say, is some of the best voice-acting ever done in a game. This is probably third in quality on the ps2 to MGS2 and FFX (sans Yuna). The characters voices match their personality and don't have any of the trademark videogame awkwardness.

Gameplay: 5 stars

In all honesty, I have never felt like I had this much control over a game, despite a rather simple 3 button setup. The triangle controls your specials, the x controls your jump (or double-jump), and the circle controls everything else. I have to admit I thought it was going to be too simple just using the circle button for all action, but I quickly grew accustomed to it, and was clinging on rails, hooks, and pointy tower tops like there was no tommorow. It's a very comfortable way to play a game, and an ingenious setup. The superb graphics allowed you to see the clear route along each level. The game managed to be linear but without fault as it didn't make any levels exceedingly easy. It also presented some nice variety in every boss level.

Plot: 5 stars

The plot was much, much more than I was expecting. I actually felt attached to the characters, angry at the villains, and excited to be a part of such a cool family (the Coopers). The story was basically about recovering you family's ancient thieving book, the Thievius Raccoonus, and the shenanigans along the way. That's about all I can say without giving away any spoilers, but believe me, it's very well presented. The plot is relayed through animated scenes as well as in-game cutscenes, along with some of that great voice-acting I was telling you about earlier. Without being a behemoth RPG-type game, the plot manages to keep you excited for more, and in the last level, you'll be on the edge of your seat.

Replayability: 5 stars

A perfect 5? I thought I was saying that this was the flaw with the game before. Well, to some extent it is. I could beat this game over and over and not really get tired, but that's not exactly the type of replay people look forward to. No, the replay that makes this game great is found after you beat the game for the first time, in the Master Thief Sprints. These are basically times to get through the level in as fast as you can, for a reward, mostly pride though. The reward is a dialogue about the level going on while you play through that particular area again, and some of the stuff is pretty cool to hear, especially if you're interested in making games (mostly design type stuff, which kept me interested even though I'm more of a programmer). But the flaw that I said was in your mind, and which may draw some people away from playing these Sprints, is the difficulty. For novice gamers, and on some levels, even for experts, these challenges can prove to be just that, challenging. But in the end, the feeling of pride you'll get to reach 100% will guide you through all of them. And don't worry, it's no Battletoads!

The Bottom Line: 5 stars!

Overall, I'd have to say this is definitely one of the best games I have ever played. I rented this, and kept it long enough to rack up a 7 dollar late fee, so that tells you something (if you know me). I'd suggest buying it, as I'll no doubt feel the urge to play it again soon.

Honest reviews on Sly Cooper And The Thievius Raccoonus - PlayStation 2

This game is a very, very simple platform game. But it's also pretty darn good. The cell shading graphics are simply amazing, and the gameplay is consistent, fun, and easy to begin with. It's a little platform game that combines elements of stealth and action. Sort of like Metal Gear Solid 2, but actually fun.

This game is a short game. It means that maybe they could have added another element, but it also means that there isn't needless repetition in any of the levels, except for the last boss.

You are this raccoon from a long line of thieving relatives. You're mission is to find all parts of the secret family thieving book, all while running away from a female cop who is constantly on your tail (I'll let you decipher the meaning of that sentence yourself).

The thing that strikes me most is the presentation of the characters. While the background consists of 3-D objects, the characters are smooth, cartoon like, cell-shaded animals. It's a nice change. It's especially pleasing since the new, unreleased Zelda is going to use this type of "revolutionary" technology.

The game itself is straightforward. You have to jump, attack, and sneak your way through levels to eventually reach a boss. Then once you realize how to defeat the boss, it's on to the next level. Nothing original at all, but then again, it didn't claim to be. The beauty of this is that you rarely go through the same level more than three times, and you don't have to refer to walkthrough to pass any of the levels.

I would recommend this, it's good, clean fun.

At first, I'll admit, I didn't like Sly Cooper too much. My initial reaction was that this was just another ordinary action platform game. After playing it awhile, I soon realized it wasn't your 'ordinary' action platformer. Developer Sucker Punch proves you can still innovate in a genre that's beginning to get old and show its' age. By combining stealth with great platform action, you got one killer game on your hands. You play as Sly Cooper and, with the help of your two friends:Murray and Bentley, you go on a quest to find pages from your family heirloom(the Thievius Raccoonus)which is a guidebook for thieves. Rest assured, it's not teaching anything bad here as its' taking back what is rightfully yours. Everything from plot to presentation to control and gameplay, everything is dead-on in this game. Even the cel-shaded graphics compliment the games' cartoony atmosphere. No boring sleep-inducing fetch quests here...Oh no! You can collect clues to unlock new moves to use in the game but it isn't neccessary just to finish the game. Sucker Punch keeps thing fresh and simple in this game. You can tell this was a labor of love for them because alot was put into this game and that's why it is so great. I, personally, look forward to a sequel. It's easily the best action platformer on the Playstation2 thus far.

I highly recommend this game to everyone, young or old.

Got a set of 2 of these controllers as a gift and I immediately had problems with the recievers. The controller would work great for about 2 minutes then the signal would be lost. I tried to get help through Pelican's on-line customer service and although they agreed that I had a faulty reciever (actually ended up being two faulty recievers) and offered to send me a new one I never recieved one. I've tried several times to resubmit my complaint but I've never recieved another response from them. I would not recommend this product nor any other Pelican product. There must be something better out there.

Works great, no noticable delay, love the low battery warning light.

Having a 1 1/2 year old, I got tired of trying to play Xbox with my friend in the living room and having controller wires stretched out all over the room. She'd constantly get tangled up in the wires, or grab a controller to try to play with dad then turn a couple circles getting the wires wrapped around her. Now I don't have to worry. There are absolutely no wires comming out of the controller. The only wire at all is about 6" connecting the receiver to the xbox.

After reading the good review of this here and gamespot I decided to get a pair of these controllers. I liked the fact that they had the low battery warning light. That way you know before you start a game if the batteries need changing. I don't have a big living room, so I've not come close to testing out the 50 foot range. But I haven't experienced any problems while playing Halo 2.

I hooked up both controllers out of the box and read the instructions. I forgot which controller went to which receiver but it didn't matter. Pushed the change channel button on each receiver and then hit any 1 button on each controller after waiting 3 seconds after pushing the change channel button just like the manual said. That was all it took, perfect communication since, even after many times of turning the power on the controller on and off.

It was just hard to find any of these for sale on the internet. Had to go to an auction site.

Now I wish I hadn't already spent the money to buy the wired controllers I already had. For around $30 these wireless models aren't much more than the wired controllers. Well worth the little bit extra.

Best Deals for PELICAN ACCESSORIES Eclipse 2 Wireless Controller For Xbox

There are other wireless controllers out there that are better, but they all cost more than $50. For $30 you cant get anything better. Everyone that has a gamecube has the wavebird, the best wireless controller out there, and for the Xbox this is the closet to the wavebird. It's light and close to the size of the regular controllers from the xbox. Unlike most wireless controllers you have the rumble feature with this controller. Turning the rumble on will drain your batteries a lot faster but it only takes 2 AA so it's not too bad. With all the wireless controllers you always have to make sure you don't keep it on all day, well with this one it will turn off by itself if you don't use it for 15 min. it also has a cool button layout, all of the button layouts are the same as the regular controllers but this one has the white and black buttons also on the top of the controller similar to the L1 and R1 buttons on the playstation controllers. Overall this is the best controller you can get for $30, I would buy this controller over the regular xbox controllers. The only bad this is that you cant play xbox live with this controller, so if you are looking to play online and this is the only controller you have don't buy this, but if you are just looking for an extra controller this is better than the regular ones.

Honest reviews on PELICAN ACCESSORIES Eclipse 2 Wireless Controller For Xbox

I bought 4 of these controllers thinking they would be as reliable as the original pelican controllers. 1 Worked right out of the box, 1 had to be manually set, and the other 2 didn't work at all in automatic or manual mode. I recommend sticking with the original Pelican 1 controllers or going with a different brand. Otherwise you have a 50% chance of getting a bad controller.

I just finished playing "Last Train to Blue Moon Canyon", and I was literally blown away by the amazing graphics what an improvement over previous games! These graphics are definitely on par with the likes of "Myst", and other adventure games although you do have to play for a little while before you get to enjoy them...

This Nancy Drew game is about a young rich girl who had her father restore an old train back to working condition. There are many rumors surrounding this train especially since the original owner wound up missing in the mid 1800's, and his engineer was found still in the train, in the middle of the desert, dead... On top of this, the owners wife had died on the train at an earlier date, so many people thought it was haunted.

The reason the young girl had wanted the train restored was because story had it that Jack Hurley (the original owner), had found gold in a mine and that the directions to find this mine were all hidden inside the train. She wanted this treasure, and invited several people (including Nancy and the Hardy boys) to help solve the mysteries, and find the mine.

This is one of those games that ropes you in. In fact, I couldn't stop playing it!!!

I think it's important for you to know that I am 36 years old a testament to the fact that these games are great for teens and adults alike!!!

Overall, I highly recommend this game to anyone who enjoyed (or is enjoying) the Nancy Drew Mystery series. So far, this is hands down the best ND game I've played to date! Just a note of caution though I'd suggest you choose the "junior detective" regardless of your age, as there are several areas where it's too easy to become stuck, and if you choose this level, you have the benefit of a few more hints and the task journal both big helps when you find yourself unable to move on...

Although the Hardy Boys really didn't do much in this game, it was fun to have them in it. The game had lots of pipe puzzles, some slider puzzles (which I love) and lots more interesting games of chance and puzzles. It was fun to go all over the train and look for pieces to some of the puzzles. I have played all of the Nancy Drew PC games and really love them. I am in the over 65 age group and these never grow old. I am now looking forward to the next one.

I'm writing this review to help others. I purchased a Nancy Drew game, mistakenly assuming Windows Vista would be able to play XP compatible games. After some research I found there are 13 Nancy Drew games that are considered incompatible with Vista. The manufacturer suggested a "work around", which fortunately worked on my particular game, Danger on Deception Island but it may not work for other games. It's definitely worth a try.

This is a statement on HER's website ( ) regarding Windows Vista:

"Unfortunately our first 13 games are not Vista Compatible, we are planning on re-releasing some of the more popular games with Vista compatibility but we don't have any set release dates as of yet. Starting with #14 Danger By Design, all titles moving forward will be Vista compatible.

There is an unsupported work around that may work, if during installation you set the default path as "My Documents" then the game could possibly run under Vista. Unfortunately, we can't give any more support or help on older games running under the Vista Operating system."

The games that are NOT compatible with VISTA are:

Games » Danger By Design

Games » Last Train to Blue Moon Canyon

Games » Secret of the Old Clock

Games » Curse of Blackmoor Manor

Games » The Secret of Shadow Ranch

Games » Danger on Deception Island

Games » The Haunted Carousel

Games » Ghost Dogs of Moon Lake

Games » Secret of the Scarlet Hand

Games » The Final Scene

Games » Treasure in the Royal Tower

Games » Message in a Haunted Mansion

Games » Stay Tuned for Danger

Games » Secrets Can Kill

Honest reviews on Nancy Drew: Last Train to Blue Moon Canyon - PC

I just finished solving this game, and it's definitely worth your time and money. It's longer than Secret of the Old Clock, though not as long as Curse of Blackmoor Manor. Similar to Secret of Shadow Ranch, I'd say. (These are some other Nancy Drew computer games, for those who may be unfamiliar with the titles.) There are lots of puzzles, but they're not too difficult. The graphics are good, as is the ending sequence. I can't really think of a complaint, except that perhaps it could have been scarier. Looking forward to the next one!

This game was definitely not what I thought it would be. I was expecting a really easy game, mostly geared toward young kids and something I may be bored with. Not the case...

THE GOOD STUFF

1. The characters the mannerisms and the personalities of the characters were great. I loved the phone chat with George & Bess.

2. The puzzles they had just enough challenge to keep you on your toes. It stumped me at one point which actually made me happy. They had just the right amount of serious puzzles and fun ones so you couldn't get completely frustrated.

3. The graphics A+! I was afraid they wouldn't be as good of quality but I was wrong. The detail was pretty darn good for a game geared towards young kids. The mine ride was the most realistic I have ever seen in a computer game.

THE NOT SO GOOD STUFF

1. The length of the game. I'm sure they know what they are doing when it comes to timing the game to keep kids attention but I thought the plot could have gone on a little more.

2. The HARDYS. Ok, they're cute and all but seriously I got a little miffed that they got to sit around while I (as Nancy) did all the work.

3. Locations. I thought that they could have expanded on the areas a little more. I would have liked to travel to a few more places before ending the game. Also I think the train should have had more rooms to explore. A lot of time was wasted trying to see if the doors in the sleeper car opened.

This was the first Nancy Drew game I have ever played and after this, it's definitely NOT the last.

For the past year I've been relying on my roomates xbox 360 as my source of gaming entertainment, even though i had been with playstation since the first one came out. I like the xbox 360, one of the most attracting aspects of it were its affordability and well halo of course. Well my roomate moved out a few weeks back so i decided that i would buy a playstation 3 since i was now console-less. I also had created a PSN account in december so I qualify for the PSN Welcome Back promotion ;) I ordered this particular bundle because I played black ops on xbox and enjoyed so i couldnt resist this deal! I will admit that i was planning on buying the original bundle with the $60 amazon promotional credit, but the promotion expired a few days before i was planning on buying it, so i fell back to the black ops bundle. Its only been a few hours since I unboxed my playstation and i am glad that i decided to buy it. Ive already played through some black ops and god of war 3 and the graphics are AMAZING!! I dont think xbox has a game that can compete graphics or gameplay wise with god of war 3, its in its own class! This a great system and i would recommend to anyone looking for an excellent deal and all round excellent gaming system!!

After not having a PS3 for a long time going, I finally settled down with one. A lot of my PS3-toting friends play Black Ops, so this worked out well for me. I already have an Xbox 360 and a Wii and I love those as well. I am an avid gamer and am happy to finally have all three current generation home consoles. Overall, the system works and looks great and I'm sure I'll use it for many years!

Honest reviews on PlayStation 3 160GB Call of Duty: Black Ops Bundle

Package includes DS3 controller, USB cable, power cable, composite cable (SD) and COD: BO LE game. The new slim console is very light compared to my old fat 60GB backwards compatible PS3 due to less parts inside, design, etc.

The slim is very quiet upon powering on, but disc reading for COD: BO is loud. Demon's Souls didn't create the same amount of disc tray read and load noise as BO. Another new PS3 slim I purchased around the same time for my nephews also had the same loud disc reading noise effects when loading BO so it seems normal. Personally, I still prefer the original fat PS3 design quality over this new cheaper smaller look, but it doesn't matter when it comes to gaming purposes.

Black Ops LE comes with zombie modes unlocked from start, but 5 new maps are not on disc like new Borderlands: GotY edition versions. You get a one time use PSN voucher redeem code to use to download new maps, so you will need Internet access. Overall, very good bundle package for the same regular retail price of stand alone PS3 package.

What a lifesaver! I broke my Xbox 360 headset, and thought I'd have to waste $60 on a replacement pair just to chat on xbox live. Thankfully I found this kit instead and brought my Sennheiser PC-350 back to life which sounds so much better than what most console headsets have to offer. The cable has a pretty good-quality feel, and the sound quality makes Battlefield sound absolutely Awesome! Oh, and the instructions on the side of the box are super simple. Great buy, no regrets!

The instructions don't mention it, but the cable that comes with it has RCA plugs and a standard headphone plug which means I can plug my iPod into the mix and have my own private soundtrack while I go OPB on everyone. And last but not least I could also use my BEATS Studio, or any other smartphone headset on my Xbox 360 using the "XJacKer Beats Adapter". See my step by step set-up video.

This thing is such a no brainer! Seriously did not want to drop sixty or more on a headset that I can only use with my Xbox 360 and nothing else. With this 360 kit, I'm now using my Beats SoloHDs I got for Christmas as my Xbox 360 headset.

It works just fine and sounds great. Chat sounds fine pretty much sounds like any other Xbox headset I've ever tried. Obviously the iPod/iPhone controls on the ControlTalk cable don't work with my 360 controller, but that's to be expected.

Overall I'm pretty happy with it. My only complaint which is definitely not the kit's fault is that some games seem quieter than I would like. Halo Reach comes through crazy loud while MW2 and Black Ops are quieter.

Just found out that Xjacker has an amped version of this kit for only 10 bucks more you can boost the sound 20x loader with the amped version.

This product will save you some good money if you're running your game on a PC monitor with no speakers. The audio is great, but quality falls slightly when you plug in the 3.5mm jack to have another audio source with your in-game audio source. The audio distorts a little so you have to turn down the volume to avoid that. This product works best when you have a headset that can control its own volume because you can turn up in-game audio while turning down your computer audio to keep a good balance. I haven't tested it with the 2.5mm jack, but the jack doesn't snap into the controller well causing the mic to slide out if you move a lot or have too much weight pulling down. Outside of that, it's a really great product to use. Plus, I think I can use the extra RCA plugs it gives to make another headset have audio without needing to split the sound (which normally sucks cause my splitter keeps going out).

To sum it up:

Make sure you have a headset that have its own volume control to get the best use out of this.

Honest reviews on XJacKer Xbox 360 Kit Game Sound + XBL Chat With Your PC Headset on

When I unboxed this product, I was pleased to see the great quality of these cables. They are extremely solid and gold-plated! The 3 meter extended cable is very useful, especially because all audio extensions are braided into one cable. This ensures there's no mess with all the different cables. The little 2,5 to 3,5 mm jack adapter cable doesn't fit securely into your xbox 360 controller, but it's okay if you don't wiggle it too much! The set-up is easy to follow.

The audio quality through my PC headset is very good and the mic works very well on Xbox Live. The only thing you'll have to do is to change the Xbox 360 audio output to "Play through TV speakers" instead of "Play through Headset" because I use the 3,5 mm jack audio output of my TV. (If you use the RCA cables, the volume can be too low and you'll have to adjust the voice/game volume, often depending on the game you're playing and the mic quality of your friends).

It's a great and simple solution to use any PC headset with your Xbox 360. No expensive "Turtle Beaches" required! The "Beats by Dr. Dre" adapter cable is also useful for iPhones users btw ;-)

XJacker does what it says it does, YOU will have to go into the XBOX settings though and change the settings to use it with the mic and headset.. So save yourself some cash and buy this instead of getting a new headset if don't already have one..

I highly recommend this product..

The only con is the plug that goes into the controller pops out once and in a while if you move around alot when you are playing

DEADLIGHT

Graphics in this game are outstanding. The backgrounds are detailed and atmospheric. The use of shadows is great also, especially the way the characters are all silhouettes.

Deadlight has a solid story in a tired genre with good voice acting even if the main character is a bit of a cliche tough guy.

As I proceeded through the game I had a lot of fun with the puzzles. There are times when you have no weapons and have to find ways to defeat traps/puzzles by using the zombies instead of fighting them, which is interesting.

There isn't really a lot of combat if you're looking for an action game. You will spend most of your time evading or running from enemies. Weapon selection is limited and at times non-existent. I thought it worked well for this game, since the game design doesn't require you to fight that often.

Deadlight is full of Steam achievements, some of which are obtained just by reaching checkpoints, so it regularly rewards you with a sense of accomplishment.

On the downside, the game can be frustrating. There's a lot of trial and error. Sometimes the color scheme of the game can make it difficult to discern certain objects. I fell through floors I thought were there a few times. On the plus side, checkpoints are very frequent, so you can afford some trial and error. Save points are frequent too, but if you quit the game, be prepared to repeat a few checkpoints, which is really no big deal.

Here's the MAJOR problem. This game is a port from XBOX Arcade, so it was designed with a 360 controller in mind. The conversion to keyboard and mouse is not pleasant. I eventually just gave up after COMPLETELY failing to outrun a helicopter through an obstacle course about 25 times. It requires fast reflexes and precision timing that I just couldn't manage on a keyboard (but maybe you could). You need to sprint away from the copter, then basically stop and inch your way up to fences, because if you hit jump while moving you will just bounce off the fence. Fence climbing in general is frustrating. Sometimes it would just take too long for the character to interact with the fence to get away from the helicopter in time. If you ARE using a 360 controller it may work better for you. I tried a PS2-style Logitech PC controller but couldn't remap the pre-configured 360 controller commands. Even my L1, L2, R1, R2 buttons weren't doing the same as the 360 buttons.

I was disappointed that I ultimately put this game down (at least until I get a 360 controller I guess), because I really liked the puzzles, graphics, and atmosphere.

The game is amazing. The graphic, storyline and story telling are all top tier. Puzzles/combat are fun!

I bought it when it was on sale. It was 100% worth buying.

The game seems like it is a pretty fun side scrolling game that's kind of unique. I haven't got to play it much on my computer because I was trying to playing on my laptop and it can't handle to much. I set the game on lower settings and it seemed to have a little bit better frame rate but I haven't got to try it on the lowest settings yet. The downloading process from Amazon was pretty good and fast. If I can get it playing better or try it on a better computer I'd say it would be a pretty good game that seems like it's got a great story to it.

Honest reviews on DEADLIGHT

Its a great zombie adventure game and has a style and feel similar to the original "Prince Of Persia"games from back in day. The game play is excellent. Personally recommend using a controller but a keyboard and mouse also works.

Advent Rising was announced a few years ago as the first in a trilogy that was epic in scope. It has all the workings of a great project as well. The original story began in the director's mind and he knew it would be such a grand story that he enlisted the help of notable sci-fi scribe Orson Scott Card to help work the script. Card worked on the script, getting the dialogue right and also assisted with the overall story. On top of an excellent author, they employed an orchestra and the Mormon Tabernacle Choir to perform. All of these should spell out to be a recipe for sucess. And it does, sort of.

What holds this game back from glory are the myriad of technical issues. To begin with, the game is beautiful. Graphic-wise, it reminds me of Halo 2. Halo 2 had no loading after the initial load and the graphics, while nice, suffered at times from having to be rendered quickly. The same goes for Advent Rising. In fact, while you are watching a cutscene, the game is busy loading the next sequence. What this does is put a tremendous strain on the engine. If the engine is strong, it shouldn't pose much problem. But, unfortunately, this sometimes spells disaster for Advent Rising.

The first 40 minutes of the game did not give me a great first impression. During the training sequences, the game locked up three times. I had to replay the same sequence about 4 times to get through it simply because I did something the game didn't like and it froze. The game auto-saves onces you hit certain check points and if you have to reset the game, you're starting back over from the beginning of the checkpoint. Things became much better as the game progressed and I don't remember the game freezing again.

Added to the lock ups, the game stutters when there's too many things going on at once. I don't mean when little things are happening, I mean when you have a squad of 3-4 people on your team shooting at 4-6 enemies and there's two drop ships coming in and launching missles that explode with huge flames. When that happens, the game's audio begins to "click," the frame rate drops very noticeably and things become a bit annoying. But again, this only really happens when there's a ton going on.

Unfortunately, more technical issues abound. Namely in the sound. With the beautifully orchestrated music pounding, the screams of people fleeing certain destruction, the explosions, the lazers tearing apart buildings, you'd expect to have a lot of sound. Unfortunately, in the cutscenes the sound tends to be muted. To give you an example, on my surround sound receiver (which the game supports by the way), I usually keep the sound at 10-11 for a decent, full sound that doesn't also piss off my neighbors. For this game, generally I have to have the sound on at 16-17 and it's still muted. I know the reason is probably because the game is loading the next scene and the engine is faltering because of it.

A love it or hate it device is used for targeting. Called "flick targeting," you use the right stick to change between your targets, effectively "flicking" it in their general direction to lock onto them. For those who use their right stick to change the camera constantly, like me, this can take some time to get used to. But, if you can train yourself not to change the camera as much will find it works pretty well. Where it can get into a problem is when you are trying to run from the enemy to get to cover. When this happens, and you try to reorient the camera to find some place to run, it can become frustrating to continually lock onto targets. Also, when you receive your power to levitate objects, this becomes even more of a hindrance as you not only lock onto enemies now but also moveable objects. Click the right stick (R3 button) helps with this problem because it releases the camera but it still causes moments of annoyance. Honestly, though, it's a great system to handle more than one enemy at a time.

At the heart of the game, past all of the technical problems and targeting woes is a great story. The beginning of the story with the Seeker's attack of your home world reminded me of what Halo 2 was missing. Here we saw devastation on your homeworld, we fought on the homeworld and it generally stressed the feeling of your world at risk. From there, it's an epic event after epic event as the seekers cause untold problems, a few plot twists occur and a few deaths propel our protagonist toward his goal. It's a great story and the dialogue is terrific, bring to mind movie quality. The voice actors are a charm to listen to, and there are a couple funny moments. Card's influenced can be seen everywhere. In fact, I was waiting for the main characters to break out in a discussion of Varelese and Ramen in terms of aliens (read the Ender's series if you didn't get that).

For all that's good in this game, and there's plenty do not get me wrong, I feel semi-disappointed. This game has been pushed back countless times. Mostly, it's been pushed back to help fix the frame rate issues, and other technical problems I've noted. And so when the game was finally released I was shocked when the very things that made it miss release date upon release date were still causing problems. What is most annoying is that we are this far in the Xbox development cycle and bugs abound. We are currently waiting for Xbox 360 to come out and countless games have been made that are more beautiful and less buggy than this game. It's disappointing to see that even this far into the Xbox life problems are still occuring. Maybe the game was too grand for the Xbox and should have been an Xbox 360 launch title. Whatever the case, this game is really good, regardless of the problems. If you can overlook the technical issues above, you will find not only a good game, but a good game with a heart. And that's hard to find today.

Let me start off by saying that all of the official reviews you have read for this game have been completely wrong. I have yet to see any positive feedback from professional reviewers about Advent Rising, which is proof that every one of them needs to be fired from their jobs.

Now, with that aside, let me talk about the miraculous thing that is Advent Rising. I have never found myself so immersed in an experience as I have with this game. The gameplay is addictive, the story is compelling, and the music is to die for.

Bugs:

There isn't a game out there as unique as Advent Rising. Look past the glitches and slowdowns and you are clearly playing one of the most fun and incredible games ever released. Everyone has badmouthed the Flick Targeting, but all I have to say is that I play with an inverted camera, and I still found the targeting tolerable. Can you imagine targeting to the right and the camera moves left? It wasn't easy, but still, I gave the game a 5, so you know it can't be that bad.

-The framerate, in my opinion, isn't an issue, cause it only slows down about 4 times through the entire game, and not even enough to get you killed.

-Lockups are the same, rare.

-Music fades in and out, and will sometimes overpower the dialogue. (But music can be turned off)

-In fact, the only glitches worth mentioning are:

1. Every so often the camera will continue to lock on a target after they have been killed, meaning that you can't look ahead. It is quickly fixed though as another object is targeted.

2. While using Aeon Pulse alternate fire the character will get stuck in the air.

3. The health of the 2nd boss is inconsistent, one time it is easy to kill, other times it will take hours.

Gameplay:

Advent Rising delivers more surprises than any game out their. I've lost count of how many times I've just had to pause the game and think of how awesome what I've just pulled off was. You can do SO many things at one time that it is incredible, and I am STILL finding new things like...MINOR SPOILERS...the fact that you charge up the surge power and deliver a deadly blow that looks awesome. Also, that you can freeze the Seekers and then completely shatter them. Sure I'd heard people talking about it, but pulling it off is amazing. In what other game can I slow down time, kick a guy through the air, run across the room and then kick him again before he hits the ground? I can literally pick up 5 bad guys, throw them into Lava, and fire a rocket launcher at a mech-baddie while flying through the air in slow-motion, all at the same time. And then finish that one off by landing and spinning my launcher like some cowboy, it's incredible! End Spoilers.

-The coolest things however, are the RPG elements. Choices you make effect the storyline, and the powers/weapons you can level-up on create a unique character every time you play.

Story and Characters:

I won't spoil it, but it is the best storyline I've ever played in a game. This game made me cry, enough said.

-The characters are actually interesting! I want to learn about them, want to know where they came from. And Ethan is the man! One of the best characters out there. Gideon is cool too, but Ethan really made the game for me.

-(Minor Spoiler is you're sensitive like that) Just a hint that won't spoil it for people who haven't played it yet. If you want the story to reach its highest potential I'll just say this...pick the dude. The game makes more sense that way.

Problems:

-Other than the formentioned glitches, the character models other than Gideon and Ethan, and the Aliens, are rather dull. I would loved to have seen the females look better because during the city scenes there was only one skin for them, while the men had at least 4. Made it unbelievable.

-No subtitles. Without them it is hard to know what the characters are saying because the music, or mumble of their voice.

You have to play this game with an open mind, and whatever you do, don't play the entire game the same way. There are so many ways to kill things, that experimenting is so much fun. The landscapes are breathtaking and the weaponry is killer. And I don't care what anyone says, this game did not copy Halo with the Seekers. They look nothing like the Covenant, and the gamplay is actually much more fun than Halo.

Don't be deceived by the beginning of the game, I was, and I regretted getting the game, but by the end, I was completely immersed in the world and didn't want it to end. Let's hope the sequels fix the minor problems and expand on the already incredible gameplay.

I've already said this, but the game made me cry, and that's tough for me. It is truly one of the best games I've ever played, and IS the most fun.

Just remember, have an open mind, you'll love it! And as long as you aren't a picky and spoiled moron, the glitches won't bother you enough to keep you from this incredible experience.

We need more games like this!

Best Deals for Advent Rising - Xbox

In this generation of gaming, a dark age if ever there was one, where great games are few and far between, and sequel after sequel sells while great aspirations so often go unrealized, swept away in the flood of mediocrity, comes a game that turns me back into a true believer...

I've been around. I've owned so many game systems, tried so many styles of games. I've looked and searched and hoped and dreamed...that there would one day come a game that took the strengths and lost the weaknesses that have plagued seemingly every action game.

What does a good action game need? What have they been lacking? Well, think of all those stupid first-person-shooters, all those mindless action games. They have you mowing down hordes of enemies...and then jumping across a gap and falling to your death! You're blasting your way through all kinds of madness, and then you can't find the key to open the stupid door to the next area! How often I would dream of a game where there's no stupid jumping puzzles! No stupid key searches! Instead...you blast enemies, the story progresses, and the doors OPEN when you approach them! YES!!!!! But I'm getting ahead of myself.

This game is what every Star Wars action game wishes it was. It's what Jedi Knight should have been. It's what Gun Valkyrie shoudl have been. It's what I've been waiting for...a fun game!

The beginning of the game you're walking around and talking and training. Then you meet the aliens. And all heck breaks loose. And wow! Suddenly with both X-box triggers you're blasting through hordes of enemies as the ship breaks apart. And from there the action almost never stops.

Your abilities level up as you go, and after a few levels you get POWERS. Then the game immediately goes from good to AWESOME. All powers have level ups that come from usage. And as the game progresses the powers get progressively cooler. But the real greatness comes not from the powers but what you can DO with them. You can grab weapons out of enemies hands, then shoot them with them. You can freeze time and run to enemies and take them down in hand-to-hand combat. You can put up energy shields and then backflip and cartwheel in and out of their path while firing energy blasts out of your hands. You can snipe with guns and toss enemies around with with telekinesis. And because you of the awesome targeting system and excellent control menus, it's painless to target enemies and switch weapons and powers.

Most of the complaints in this game seem to center around said flick-targeting system, glitches in the system, slow-down, and camera issues. Some also don't like the difficulty. To all of this I say...what's your problem?

The flick-targeting system is brilliant. It allows you to easily switch targets and focus the camera instantly. You can adjust it's sensitivity if it's not working for you quite right. Same with the camera. But honestly, this is an ACTION game. AJUST TO IT! Every game has camera issues! Most action games have slowdown! And as games with bugs go, please keep in mind that Knights of the Old Republic has more bugs than the state of Florida and people got over that! Honestly, the bugs, slow-down, jaggies, WHATEVER simply aren't big enough to even be an issue.

The game has INCREDIBLE level design. It has loads of cool weapons. It has GREAT boss battles (fighting a flying tank single-handedly for the first time was so much fun the first time!). It's LOADS of fun. It has a great story, great music, great controls, adjustable difficulty, inspired characters, good voice-acting, and simply limitless possibilities for gameplay.

For a long while I thought this was a four star game because of the bugs and slowdown and whatnot. But in light of the slow-motion dodging, the music, the gamespy, and the incredible amount of FUN that this game is, I simply cannot give it fewer than five stars. This is one of the most under-rated games I've ever played, and probably the best game for the X-Box, with only the phenomenal KOTOR games challenging it. Everyone who likes action or sci-fi games should definitely play this game. I don't think I'll ever get tired of it. It's just too deep and fun a game!

Honest reviews on Advent Rising - Xbox

Advent Rising is the first of what promises to be an amazing trilogy. The story is a great sci-fi adventure. To finally see a quality script and quality voiceacting in a video game is a treat. The soundtrack is nothing short of spectacular and completely immerses you the game, I may purchase it when it becomes available. What's more, even though this is the first part of a trilogy, you don't feel cheated at the end of the game (like in Halo 2). The first installment gives a nice feeling of completion. The only things keeping this game from a five star rating are the technical problems (which on the whole are minor) and the graphics (not what you would expect from a modern day epic video game). I trust that Xbox 360 will easily allow the developers to fix the framerate and graphics in the final two games of the trilogy. In the end, this series may surpass everything that's come before it, even Halo (that's right I said it).

I saw Advent Rising on last year's E3 and was amazed, so I pre-ordered this game for US-launch (yes, I live in Germany). When I read some of the first reviews, I was disappointed and almost cosidered cancelling the order.

Luckyly i didn't: I played this game for 6 hours now and it is just brilliant! Great graphics and sound (though some minor technical problems) are one thing, but the great story, voice acting and cutszenes are what makes Advent Rising a classic. This is one of the rare ocassions where a game's story truly captures me.

I read some complains about the controls, but don't agree: The auto-targetting system is efficient and fun, if you like running and shooting in fast pace, you don't have to bother with target-selecting and aiming you just concentrate on the action.

I know this is a short review, but there is not much to say: Ordering this game from the other side of the atlantic was totally worth it and I can clearly recommend it to any Sci-Fi and Action-Fan!

A Surprisingly Good Game!

I tend to find myself unable to stay away from games that were originally big blockbuster movies. Games like Catwoman, Batman Begins, Spiderman, etc. The Bee Movie game is a direct tie-in with the animated movie.

It was only fourteen bucks on Amazon, so i just couldn't help but feel pulled into this impulse purchase. I am not gonna go into specifics of the game. But if you enjoy Mario & Crash Bandicoot games, this will be right up your alley. The graphics and visuals of the game are excellent and you feel immersed in the world of Barry Benson (Jerry Seinfeld). You literally feel transported into his world.

Pick this up & add it to your library as it's a great title to have.

SUMMARY

=============

After a year of Xbox and PC gaming with Driver-SF, I can say the graphics are still definitely the best of any racing platform... But somehow this game doesn't multi-player as well as Project Gotham Racing 4 or even Forza 4. Primarily because the multi-player game customization options are the most limited of any racer!!! For instance :-

A. Why can't I pick the car I want to drive? My preference is a Lamborghini / McClaren not a drift car like a Lancia or some tank slapping ancient wreck?!

B. Why can't I pick the road surface: off-road, motorway, city streets etc, Why is it always randomly assigned?

C. I spend more time waiting for players than I do playing games! The game matching system is flawed. At least offer police chases in FREEDRIVE while one waits for players to join a game. Every time I get the "RETURNING YOU TO LOBBY" screen because of lack of player-matching I curse this game!

D. My PC version of Driver-SF is dead. It crashes every time at the LOBBY screen due to 'FRIENDS' profile data corruption! Something is rotten with online 'FRIENDS' data. Previously I tried to add many FRIENDS to generate more games and reduce time sitting in the LOBBY doing nothing. But now the game won't play anymore, even after a fresh install on a new PC. This is unforgivable Ubisoft! I don't want to create a new profile as that will reset my Level 38 rating to Zero.

=============

DETAIL

=============

I've completed this game on Xbox and PC and play online with the PC version but no longer wish to pay for Xbox Live! I found the single player on both versions an exercise is sheer agony and frustration! Overall however, its a cracking game, but the unfathomable gameplay restrictions mean going back to Forza or PGR / Blue for casual racing games with friends. So lots of room for improvement here if Ubisoft is open to feedback...

General PROS

I find Forza pretty but it has over-rigid driving controls, and N4S is bland & blurry! Driver on the other hand is fast and fluid with a solid frame-rate and clarity that is eye-waveringly beautiful. Its still the best and most fun driving game available IMO. Although the field of competition is shrinking. I was a big fan of the PGR racing series that was later Blur but is now RIP regrettably!

General CONS

#1. PC Activation is a pain as are the extra patches and updates. But shipping an incompatible UbisoftGameLauncherInstaller with a June 2012 retail purchase with no fix apart from scouring gaming forums is unforgivable Ubisoft!

#2. When using an "Xbox Controller for Windows" with Driver-SF, if the controller is dropped or has low battery or the USB cable is accidentally unplugged during gameplay, the game loses all Xbox controller connectivity, and the entire game must be exited and restarted. In Multiplayer this is a huge pain in particular! Other Ubisoft games such as "Far Cry 2" do not have this problem and do not lose connectivity!

#3. Major online glitch that Ubisoft is largely ignoring, see below!

Multiplayer Cons

#4. You can't play quick customizable offline racing games with robot cars like in Forza or PGR.

#5. The PC version has no local gaming options, so PC LAN-Gaming is not available! I would buy more copies if Driver-SF had Lan gaming.

#6. There is no Xbox System-Link either, and the Xbox split screen multi-player doesn't let you pick your preferred car! In addition, the split-screen gameplay would be much better if it was on the HORIZONTAL AXIS!

#7. The PC online multi-player also doesn't let you pick your own cars, until you've reached level 25 and then you can morph into a preferred car in Tag and Trailblazer, but not in Classic Race or Sprint GP! These limitations and restrictions appear on the face of it-unnecessarily stupid and a waste of the beautiful graphics as you struggle with less forgiving cars like the drifting Lancia or some tank slapping ancient wreck! In addition, the Level 25-40 advantages give advanced players an unfair and unbalanced edge over novice Level 1-24 players! And again, there's little control either over road surface choice: off-road, motorway, city streets etc.

#8. I spend more time waiting for players than I do playing games! The game matching system is fundamentally flawed. At least offer police chases in FREEDRIVE whilst one waits for players to join a game. Every time I get the "RETURNING YOU TO LOBBY" screen because of lack of player-matching I curse this game!

#9. Glaring bug. The Multiplayer lobby as mentioned is hugely flawed and basically there's nothing to do while waiting for players to join a game, not even police chases. Moreover, there is a major glitch! My PC version of Driver-SF is dead. It crashes every time at the LOBBY screen due to 'FRIENDS' profile data corruption! Something is rotten with the online 'FRIENDS' profile data held on Ubisoft servers. This is a glaring bug in this game! So watch-out as adding friends as will crash the online Multiplayer lobby every time!!! Basically the bug is triggered if you add too many 'friends" and this is far too easy to do and likely because if you don't add friends, you can sit in the Multiplayer lobby for most of your life waiting... When contacted, the only thing Ubisoft would offer was a new serial number which meant my entire gaming profile was reset to Zero! I didn't fancy having to play from the beginning again with no perks or cars! What's unforgivable, is that Ubisoft have known about this bug for some time they call it "server side corruption", but they haven't bothered patching or fixing it!

Single-Player Cons:

#10. A novice, medium, expert-level system for Driver-SF either selected before each mission or at the start of the game. The PGR series (PGR3/PGR4) had this feature and it made the game hugely re-playable. Why do I suggest this? Because the developers can't tailor missions exactly to a players strengths and weaknesses. So having a changeable level of difficulty makes the game hugely playable and repayable. I am still playing PGR3 and PGR4, and you can turn up or turn down the difficulty level to suit your mood which makes the game repeatedly fun. Whereas with Driver, I'm still sitting in the multiplayer lobby waiting for someone to race, after tearing my hair out in single-player because of its fixed difficulty level on all missions!!!!

#11. With such great graphics its a shame a lot of the game-play is poor. I'm not talking about the ridiculous plot. I'm talking about the sheer agony and frustration or repeating missions and how much work it takes to unlock and earn bland vehicles. Why would anyone want to slave over an Abarth, Dykeman truck or a Caisson bus???? Moreover, why is it you can unlock the high end Lamborghini LP640 and LP670, but not the cheaper Gallardo until much later in the game?

#12. Overall the WP points system is hugely flawed. At the end of the game I had 3 million WP, but nothing to spend it on! Why complete missions just to unlock a car when you still have to earn WP points to buy it? This only serves to slow the gameplay to a crawl! The second time I played the game, I left the game on overnight to earn WP to bypass this annoyance!

#13. The game would have been far more enjoyable if you could earn more sports cars faster like the Ford GT, and use any of these earned vehicles on all the missions.

#14. Personally I wish they didn't put dots or symbols over cars. I'm referring to cars you are chasing or evading etc. Far Cry 2 doesn't need it. It looks childish and kills realism! The same applies to Multiplayer. In some online games players can 'shift' cars so quickly that the red-glowing highlighting is more of a distraction than a help!

#15. I wish they'd make chases more realistic and less like GTA4, where if you're a millimeter too close or a kilometer too fast you lose a car you're tailing. This is stupid, instead, if the target sees you they should react. Maybe they should speed up and drive faster, or maybe they should drive more recklessly, or maybe they should turn around and ram you! In addition, the timed missions are infuriating much like GTA4, and many are inconsistent, as some force you to restart the entire mission, whereas others return to the last checkpoint. With such realistic graphics why can't they add more realistic gameplay? What I'm saying is, If the player completes MOST of a given mission, they shouldn't be forced to replay the entire mission from the beginning like a platform game from the 80's!! At the very least I wish Ubisoft would take a page out of the Hitman series and offer multiple ways to complete missions!

After selecting a language to install the game [English] I would immediately get the error "installer user interface mode not supported...blah blah blah"

If you run into the same problem do the following (it worked for me)

After the download you should have a folder on your desktop labeled "Driver San Francisco Deluxe Edition (Download)" inside that folder there is an application labeled "Autorun"

Right click "Autorun"

Select "Properties"

In the compatibility tab, check the box "Run this program in compatibility mode for"

and from the drop down menu select "Windows XP (Service Pack 3)"
