I was surprised by the consistent quality of the game, and how fun it actually was. I got it for my child, but found I enjoyed it too. The graphics and animations do a great job mirroring the movie, and the gameplay is kind of Ratchet and Clank likeshooter/platformer with an upgrade system. It's a little derivative as movie games tend to be, but it's very well done. Johnny Depp doesn't voice Rango, which is disappointing, but whoever does Rango's voice does a good enough job. I do think it helps if you enjoyed the movie, but it's still a surprisingly fun game on it's own.

Just wish it were a little more compatible with all ages. Unlike Crash games, changing difficulty really doesn't provide for a more adult friendly game. Finished it in three sittings and really had no desire to go back through to pick up missing items.

My son loved watching me play, I even loved playing it. It was one of the more entertaining kid movie games I've ever played. Recommend it if you are thinking about a fun easy game to play with your kids.

This game has really cool platformer elements from back in the day. Great story and goes well with the movie as a "semi" tie in. Recommended for all ages, even adults. Graphics are up to par and the gameplay is smooth and easy to master. There is even a level where you meet a "Gonzo journalist", or Dr. Hunter S. Thompson (Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas). There is an achievement called "This is bat country!" which is a direct reference to Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas.

I don't know about you, but I'm not up for paying $20 for another few maps and a new weapon! Amazon sent me a coupon for $20 off, because I purchased Crysis 2 from them. Still, it's a ridiculously overpriced product.

I downloaded the game twice through Amazon, and couldn't get it to install. First time the download was corrupted, and apparently the folks who wrote the Amazon download manager didn't think to break large downloads into smaller pieces if a piece get's corrupted.

The second time I downloaded it, the game installed but wouldn't accept my authorization code without downloading Origin, EA's Downloadable Rights Management program which has a handful of other "features". I didn't want to download Origin, I've heard many bad things about it, so I tried to use the activation code on Steam. The code wouldn't work, even though Steam now sells this exact version of Crysis 2. Figures.

Once I installed Origin (and I had a few problems there, too) I entered the product code from Amazon, and guess what? I had to download the game AGAIN, this time through Origin.

At this point, I've spent ~20 hours downloading and re-downloading the game three times. Origin installs the game (not where I want it installed, of course) and I can finally play the game. But not without an internet connection. The game requires me to run and log into Origin and also log into the in-game thing, even if all I want to do is play the (offline) singleplayer.

I should have spent the $5 extra and bought the game on Steam.

Amazon, please rewrite your download manager so it can re-download and replace corrupted segments of game data. EA... get rid of Origin. You aren't stopping folks who pirate your games, and you're making things a hassle for your paying, PAYING, customers. I hope developers stop making contracts with EA.

Oh, and the game itself? Exactly what I expected because I've played the game before. Fun, but it doesn't really belong in the Crysis franchise. What you can't do is a disappointment compared to the prior games, and what you can do isn't really good enough. Ultimately Crysis 2 is yet another forgettable CoD-ish first person shooter. Singleplayer and multiplayer is unlikely to entertain for long. I mostly bought the game for the various mods that are starting to come from the community.

forward to crysis 3. out of five stars i give it 10 stars

Honest reviews on Crysis 2 - Maximum Edition

Nice graphics. That's about it. Story is uninteresting, aliens are different from Crysis 1 with no explaination in the game except from the developer saying they evolved to be more humanlike, total BS. AI sucks, all they do is hide behind walls and pop up and shoot. Even the aliens do that. Well, it is "artificial" intelligence after all. There are only about 5 different types of enemies. No variety, repetitive, run duck shoot run duck shoot

After installing the game it then required me to install Origin (a software by EA) just to open the game up. According to EA Origin is so you can play your games "anywhere and anytime." Seems like the same bs creason they give you to make you accept SECUROM. Their only reason to FORCE you to download additional software AFTER you've legally purchased it from them isn't for piracy, since if that's what you wanted you wouldn't buy it legally to begin with...right? It's so they can collect data on your gaming behavior. Who knows they may collect information on your online behavior too.

The only way to get rid of these software completely is only by wiping your hard drive clean and installing a fresh OS unless you wana continue to give data to EA about everything you do. I paid 8 bucks so I'm not losing much but the last EA game I'll ever purchase. I saw the same thing on Command and Conquer Red Alert 2 or Tiberium War games. They're deciding to screw customers who legally purchase the software by invading their privacy.

Optical Audio Adapter for Xbox 360 HDMI AV Cable Review

Optical Audio Adapter for Xbox 360 HDMI AV Cable

This has the dreaded reboot issue just like every 3rd party dongle. If you're unfamiliar, what it does is reboot your XBox if you have both an HDMI cable (for video) and this dongle plugged in for optical audio (maybe for your Turtle Beach headphones or home theater system) at the same time, and THEN try to switch inputs or shut the TV off. I found it very irritating whenever I wanted to pause a game and turn the TV off to avoid burn in or switch over to cable to see what's going on with the hockey game or whatever. The Xbox would always reset when I did this. This is caused by a wire they left in that should have been taken out. Not a HUGE issue but it's pretty annoying it had to shut it off every time I wanted to go do something really quick.

(note: everything else does work fine if you don't care about rebooting/ if you never shut the TV off or switch inputs anyway)

Now like I said, only 3rd party dongles are wired like this. So if you want to avoid this you'll have to buy a genuine Microsoft branded product which can be expensive since they don't make them anymore. HOWEVER, after a bit of research I found another one that's much cheaper at $2.79 and doesn't have the reset issue. It's a Monoprice branded one.

Link:

Ok, can't put link on here so just google:

"Monoprice RCA / Toslink Audio Adapter for Xbox 360 and Xbox 360 Slim"

You can also crack it open and take out a certain wire to fix it, but why waste your time on a badly wired product when you can just buy a cheaper, correctly wired one from Monoprice.

Bought this adapter after purchasing a Turtle Beach headset for my xbox and PC. I had my xbox running through surround sound system via a receiver and found out I wouldn't be able to use my headset and receiver without this adapter. Worked well after set up, headset and surround sound would both work while plugged in except I did need to get a HDMI cable to hook up to the TV.

Only issue is while switching inputs the xbox will reset. I never leave the console on while using other inputs, so this really didn't affect me.

Best Deals for Optical Audio Adapter for Xbox 360 HDMI AV Cable

Cheap and effective! I was unable to use my surround sound and keep the HD picture at the same time, but this did exactly what I wanted. It provides enough room for the HDMI cable to slide underneath the hook up. I can now play games and watch DVD's through the X-Box with excitement!

Honest reviews on Optical Audio Adapter for Xbox 360 HDMI AV Cable

Bought these expecting to have the problem where the Xbox will reset on input change.

This didn't bother me as I only use my TV for my Xbox, so the input doesn't change.

However, I was pleasantly surprised when I changed inputs (out of curiosity) and the Xbox didn't reset.

The product itself works fantastically, though these really should be provided by Microsoft or Turtle Beach.

Overall, I would recommend the cheapo brand.

Review of NBA Live 10 - Xbox 360

NBA Live 10 - Xbox 360
Customer Ratings: 4 stars

I really don't know what happened this year. Reports claim that a lead game designer for NBA 2K left the company and is now with EA. That may or may not be true, but it doesn't matter...what matters is that EA got it right this year. NBA Live 10 is easily the best Live in the series, and I personally think the on-court gameplay is smoother and more exciting than the NBA 2K series...and this is coming from a HUGE fan of 2K's basketball mechanics.

There are so many great looking dunks, steals, fadeaway jumpers, etc, etc...the animations in this game are just awesome. The game is super-fluid and feels like it's running at 60FPS (not 100% sure though). I've witnessed a couple of awkward transition animations and some slight clipping here and there, but I can't recall one single framerate drop (and I notice those types of things immediately in most games). The tempo of the game feels just right, all the players movements are EXTEREMELY detailed and lifelike, the graphics are amazing, the sounds...WOW. I promise you haven't heard arena noise like this in a basketball game before. The crowd goes absolutely nuts during key moments, they explode during clutch moments when you hit a major shot, they chant "MVP, MVP" when your superstar is on a roll, they boo loudly if you attempt an ugly shot and miss, or when you on the receiving end of an ugly foul.

NBA 2K might have more player-specific animations, but I think Live is catching up quickly, plus Live's animations LOOK better in my opinion. The presentation is great, too. The pre-game warmups are all there, the highlights are slick and they're presented at the right times, the crowd and sideline animations are nearly as good as 2K's, the arenas are incredibly detailed, the players (for the most part) look like their real-life counterparts, and they even included the TNT Playoffs/Finals music. The game keeps you immersed the entire time and makes you feel like you're truly watching an NBA broadcast. The soundtrack is decent, just typical EA basketball stuff with some random forgettable hip-hop tracks.

The AI is actually pretty smart IMO, I see my AI teammates consistently running good plays, setting up nice picks, getting open when they need to, passing to the open man, etc on both ends of the court. That was one of my biggest problems w/ 2K basketball; many times the AI would just stand there until you actually called a specific play, instead of rotating positions and/or trying to get open. My only gripe is that CPU-controlled players will still randomly step out of bounds, but it only happens occasionally and it effects your team and the CPU, so it doesn't necessarily put you at a disadvantage. I'm also not a huge fan of Live's free throw shooting, since you have to hold down X until a meter fills and release it at the right time. It's okay, just not as cool as 2K's "signature shot" mechanics.

The typical EA modes are included, like dynasty, season, etc. There's actually a mode called Dynamic Season this year where you can literally play along w/ the real NBA season and update scores, team stats, etc. Also the Dynamic DNA is back so the individual player stats and tendencies will be updated daily throughout the season. It's basically a virtual NBA that you are controlling, and it has me pretty stoked. NBA 2K10 still has Live beat as far as game modes and options are concerned, especially since Live doesn't have a mode similar to 2K's "My Player", where you can create a new baller, enter the draft, join the pros and continue your path to greatness. I haven't tried Live 10's online yet, so I can't comment on that.

I bought NBA 2K games exclusively from 2K6 to 2K9. I haven't bought Live since Live 05, because I thought 2K nailed the look and feel of real basketball. I'm not saying 2K's game is bad at all this year, because it's still brilliantly designed and well executed. I'm just growing tired of NBA 2K in general, it's starting to become the next "Madden"...basically the same game every year w/ a few more polygons, new menus, some new animations, maybe a new career mode or season mode, etc.

This year I played both demos numerous times, and only one of them was making me jump to my feet, scream out loud, and pump my fist in excitement... in other words, this year's edition of Live had me totally immersed. It looks and feels like a brand new hoops game, and 2K10 felt like more of the same, just slightly more polished and refined. Some people will be totally fine with that, but I was looking for something different after becoming bored w/ 2K9 last year. For me, Live 10 delivered in a big way, so I bought it on release day and have no regrets. The game isn't perfect and some hardcore fans might still prefer 2K's style, but Live definitely took major steps in the right direction this year and unless 2K does something amazing with NBA 2K11, then I might have found my new basketball franchise.

Most of you maybe never got to play Live back in the glory days of the SNES and Genesis, but I was one of those guys who was with Live back in the beginning. (yeah, i'm old, lol). I started out with Lakers VS Celtics then one day, they started calling the game NBA Live then the legend was born. Live was the definition of fun and when I wanted my basketball fix, I played Live. What else was there? Shootout? NBA In the Zone? Nahh. Live all the way.

However, When things evolved to the 360 and PS3, something went horribly wrong for the series, then 2K picked up the pieces and left Live in the dust. But when I thought all was lost, E.A. strutted out NBA Live 09. While NBA Live 09 didn't mesmerize me, it did one thing right,, E.A.made Live fun again. Live 09 set the stage for Live 10. And man oh man, what a year can do for a game.

Live 10 is really a sick game. IGN's review of 8.2 while good for them, is still not an accurate statement. The key for any game is fun factor, and I have not had so much fun playing basketball for a good long time. NBA Live 10 does just about everything right. Spot on presentation, incredible, and I mean incredible graphics, sick disgustingly smooth animations, realistic gameplay (when you want it to be depending on your difficulty level) and the audio dept is nearly flawless.

Graphics: Okay, the players might be shiny, but why don't we just call it sweat and quit talking about it like it's a problem? Who really notices it when you see Kobe doing a windmill dunk in Dwight Howard's face? I don't care what anyone says, the graphics on Live are monumentally better than last years. Faces are animated, and the facial mapping alone is a sight to behold, especially when you see these guys up close and on replays. But what good is awesome looking player models if they don't look right? Well never fear, the animations are bar none the best I've ever seen. Its about transition from one animation to the next, and you won't see a guy on the floor magically get up with a cheap quick animation, I can't count the new animations I've seen, but you won't be able to either. Bar none, best stadiums I've ever seen. Bright, crisp, colorful and vibrant. The fans are animated nicely, and you'll be hard to find any gripes. Cheerleaders, camera man, assistant coaches, vending guys, mascots. So much to love and so much to enjoy. Graphics are nearly flawless.

Gameplay: Now I do miss the run and gun days of Live. But ya know, we've evolved and I think E.A. finally evolved the game to a nice standard that anyone can enjoy. Live can be played on any difficulty level. If you're casual, just leave it on rookie and you can be run and gun again, but if you're a fan of just NBA in general and want a realistic game, beef up that difficulty and prepare for a difficult but enjoyable experience. NBA Live 10 plays brilliantly as it looks. The computer A.I. is truly relentless and will give the most veteran fans of the series and monumental challenge for their season. NBA Live requires some pretty smart peeps at the helm to get a big win. Play calling, continuous subbing and moving the ball around is a requirement in NBA Live 10. I noticed fatigue plays a tremendous role this year and yes, guys get tired pretty fast if you leave it a the default level. You'll be taking your big name guys like Kobe and Howard quite frequently.

I love the knew quick strike controls, it took me about 5 game in the demo to get this new contorl scheme down, but it feels wonderful once you really practice at it. And while having one shoot button seems lame on paper, it's amazing when you know how to utilize it. One button does so much, it just all depends on the situation and how you're pressing on the control stick. Putting it mildly, but shoot button can do about a million things depending where you are, where you're pressing the stick, who's guarding you, and who you're controlling.

I had the most difficult time with passing and turnovers. Icon passing seems occasionally inconsistent, I'd have icon passing activated, I'd press a button and nothing would happen. I might be doing something wrong, but icon passing might need to be patched.

Defensively, Live 10 thrives with the amazing help defense when you play guys who continue to attack the paint and hte basket. The computer lockon button is still there, but the ability how your computer A.I. defense converges on the offensive guys driving is good for guys who live and die by defense. Again though, you got to call plays in Live 10 and be on your toes, as the computer A.I. is quite amazing in Live. I actually had to lower the CPU sliders about 10% on all-star difficulty and I found a good foundation on realism and challenge. The free throws are still too easy, even on higher difficulty levels, so make sure you alter that in the sliders to make it more difficult or you'll be swishing shots with shaq at the line consistently.

Sound: Marv and Kerr still repeat alot of the same stuff from last year, but nobody can deny they still make the game feel warm and cuddly. Marv and Kerr have as lot of new stuff to say this year and I love how they mesh well with the action. At times their comments don't make sense, but overall, I think these two guys are still the best in the business.

Not much else is wrong in the audio dept. Still solid sound effects, player chatter and the P.A. announcer is great. Fans of the series will notice the classic Live announcer they've had for years is gone, go back to Live 03-09 and you'll know. But the new P.A. guy sounds more realistic, sounds like the Laker P.A. guy, but it would have been nice to have different P.A. guys depending on the venues. Incredible crowd noise, music, chants of MVP on star players and boo's for the guys they hate. Everything meshes wonderfully.

Presention: Still no ESPN implimentation and no halftime show, just the usual, player hightlights and game halftime stats. It's better, but still lacking in this dept. But ya know what, the game plays so great, they can let the halftime show stink, doesn't really bother me. Stat screens are indept and fun to check out. But man, I'm sick of the micro text, people with small Tv's and no HD will be annoyed by how hard it is to read.

Final Call: Glory days have returned, no doubt about it. If you have any doubts about NBA Live this year, forget about it, this is the most complete basketball game I've ever played and I will be playing it until probaby NBA Live 11. This game is sick and well worth your 60 bucks this year. I don't care if there is another game on the shelf, you need to play NBA Live 10 and you will be hooked from the start. Thank you E.A., i'm back to your game and plan on staying. Thanks for keeping the couch all warm and cozy for me, I"ll be here for quite some time...

Graphics 9.2

Gameplay 9.0

Sound 9.5

Presentation 7.9

Final Call 9.0 Cha Ching! Live is back baby! Who says you can't teach an old dawg new tricks?

Best Deals for NBA Live 10 - Xbox 360

First off, this is finally a great game by EA! The atmosphere drags you in. Seriously, the crowd and the players react to everytyhing. After clutch made shots your player will taunt down the court and the crowd will go CRAZY! Not to say that the feature doesnt have its down falls. I was in an online match and Dirk Nowitzki hit a shot and taunted after, His man ran down the court and scored because I could not get out of that animation. Overall though, the atmosphere is great; especially in play now matches where you can choose Season, Playoffs, or Finals atmospheres.

The overall gameplay is good but there are still annoying things that will happen. When you get too close to out of bounds by the baseline. Your player will tip-toe on the line and lose the ball EVERYTIME. It really sucks. Also if you drive the lane to far inside, you will also lose the ball. It's really annoying but it can be avoided if your good enough to get inside un-avoided.

The Hangar is nothing new. It's just a place to shoot around and they'll show recent sports updates from ESPN. It is good if you need to learn timing for players shots. The Addidas Live Run is where you have 5 human players pick an NBA star and you form squads. I have only played it once but I would only play with friends seeing that you have to rely on 4 other players skills.

The Online play is very entertaining. I played alot of basketball in high school and still now, so I find myself trying to play fundamental basketball while online. IT WILL NOT WORK because people will try to cross over, run in circles or anything to get around you and get to the basket. Nobody has fundamentals and its annoying because sometimes it works for them. I have figured out how to stop it but everyone has their own things to do so. The DNA feature is also great because they update the game with real stats and tendencies of players/teams for that day. It also plays along with the DNA SEASON which you can play along with the real NBA season and play games to change the outcome to how you see fit. Its really a good feature and will probably only get better and better.

All together this is a great basketball game. Hopefully they have a patch for those quirks because there are far too many turnovers because of them. Playing this game if very fun though and NBA Live has finally gave NBA 2K solid competition. So here is my final verdict. NBA Live is fast paced and a straight to fun basketball game for anyone, but not by any means is it arcady. NBA 2K is better for basketball inthusiast's seeing that the learning curve is higher, but still great because of how realistic it is. I personally like both games but I cant speak for everyone. I bought NBA Live this year but will still purchase 2k10. Hope this review helps.

Honest reviews on NBA Live 10 - Xbox 360

I used to be a long EA sports bball fan all the way back when they used to call their games "Lakers vs Celtics and the NBA Playoffs"...up until around 2003...then I switched to the NBA 2K series and bought their games for the past few, loved it at first, then their games started to get stale...every year I download both demos and NBA 2K would get most of my attention. This year I was blown away by NBA LIVE 10, they really stepped up their game...the full game is even better! It feels like im at a real NBA game! Great NBA atmosphere!...NBA 2K10 looked and played a lot like NBA 2K9 to me and Im not much of a fan of their new features plus there players still look stiff to me, I always had an issue with that. NBA LIVE 10 is more realistic and a really fun game. The LIVE series may pass 2K by next year unless 2K step it up!

I have been waiting a long time for Brothers in Arms: Hell's Highway to come out. There have been numerous delays and the game was supposed to come out sometime last year. Well it finally came out and I picked up the game yesterday from my local Game Retailer.

The game follows up the first two Brothers in Arms games that came out earlier. You play the role of Sergeant Matt Baker who leads squads of men through Holland during Operation Market Garden in September 1944 during World War II. Operation Market Garden was the last German victory in Europe during the war.

I think the game has a great story line. The game in my opinion is very well done and acted out. It really shows what I think every soldier has to endure and go through during wartime. It is very emotional and gripping. You find out that soldiers have to make life or death decisions that can effect them the rest of their lives. This game shows not only soldiers struggling through this conflict, but also Dutch civilians who were caught in the crossfire between the Allies and the Germans.

If you are looking for a game where you make tactical decisions about how to fight battles during Operation Market Garden, this is it. Your decisions can decide the life's of your soldiers under your command.

The AI is very good in this game. I read some game reviews from other gaming websites where the game reviewers were complaining about German Soldiers who were just standing around when you shoot at them. First of all, you can now sneak up on German Soldiers to plan an attack without them knowing your there. In other words, you can set up an ambush. You set up you and your squads where you want them to fight the Germans. Of course the Germans are going to stand around if they don't know that you are there hiding. Second you can now set up you and your men where the Germans are caught in a cross fire when you fire at them with your weapons. The Germans get confused because there is no where to run and hide. So of course a lot of them are going to stand around because of the crossfire. That happens in real life too.

The graphics are real good in this game. I understand the developers of this game went to actual locations around Holland and took thousands of pictures to make the game looked like Holland during World War II. That is very impressive.

I think the game has a lot of replay value to it because the Germans react differently every time you play the game again. Each time you try to figure out how you will fight different battles throughout the game. I recommend buying this game especially if you like playing World War II games like me.

October 5, 2008

UPDATE: I just finished playing Brothers in Arms: Hells Highway and I noticed a couple of things I wanted to update about this game. I'm a true gamer who likes to give honest opinions about the games I play. The above opinions were given when I was only half way through the game. Here are the updates.

1. The graphics are great at the beginning of the game and toward the middle, but not at the end. It seems like the game developer got into a big hurry to finish this game and just threw in graphics from the "Brothers in Arms: Earned in Blood" game into the end of this game. The trees and buildings at the end of game just look dull and not very detailed like at the beginning and the middle of the game. The game was already a year behind schedule and I'm sure the game developer got pressured into finishing the game as soon as possible. I was wondering why I never saw any game trailers that show any missions that were at the end of this game. Now I know why.

2. None of the mission maps you play through are very big throughout the game. You play a little way through a mission and then you get a cut scene. That scenario plays over and over again throughout the game. Too many cut scenes and not enough playing time. If you want a comparison in map sizes, try playing Battlefield: Bad Company and you'll see what I'm talking about as far as map sizes go. Battlefield: Bad Company maps are a lot bigger with less cut scenes.

3. Operation Market Garden was all about the Allies taking and holding major road bridges along Hell's Highway throughout Holland during World War II before the Germans could blow up any of the bridges. Well in the game I didn't see one major bridge shown in any missions. There is one small bridge in the game that goes over a small canal but I don't count that. I'm talking about big huge bridges over major rivers. I didn't see any at all. I was really disappointed. Why were there no major road bridges shown in the game? That is what Operation Market Garden was all about.

4. There were lots of different vehicles used during Operation Market Garden by both the Allies and the Germans. In the game, I only saw one kind of Allied tank (Sherman Firefly) used in the game and one kind of German tank (Panzer IV) used. I didn't see any German Panther tanks, Tiger tanks, German Halftracks, German Volkswagen Kubelwagen, etc. I also didn't see any other American tanks or any British tanks of any kind. What is up with that?

5. Not every mission in this game has you play with squads of men. In fact in some of the missions, you fight alone against the Germans. And in some missions you don't fight at all. Running through a building that is on fire is one of them. There is no shooting at all. I thought in every mission I would control squads of men.

This game reminds me a lot of Medal of Honor: Airborne. That game could of been awesome too if it had of been done right. I remember that game went through a lot of delays just like Brothers in Arms: Hell's Highway did and it came out about a year later than it was suppose to. Medal of Honor: Airborne was great the first few missions and then it went downhill the last couple of missions. This game is the same way. After playing the game, I'll have to change my rating from 5 stars to 3 stars. Sorry. I just feel this game could of been made better.

If you are looking for another Call of Duty 4, this is NOT it. Sure its an FPS with shooting and explosions, but there is so much more to this game. Don't get me wrong, COD 4 is awesome in its own right, filled with fast paced action, great graphics, explosions and Hollywood moments; the Golden Standard for any new FPS to come out. So, with that in mind, if you play Hell's Highway with this mindset, you might disappoint yourself, which is too bad because Brothers in Arms is a great game in a category all of it's own.

If you have ever seen the HBO miniseries Band of Brothers, that same look and feel from the series is obvious within the first 15 minutes of the game. The opening of the game is presented in a style similar to a Hollywood picture, with great camera angles, music score, and just overall presentation. If you enjoy playing games with a good story and enjoy seeing what is happening behind the scenes of all the shooting and gameplay, then you will certainly enjoy the ride as the folks at Gearbox went to painstaking efforts to portray a grand story filled with emotion and presentation.

Now on to the bread and butter, gameplay. If you enjoyed the previous installments of the Brothers in Arms games you will be pleased to know that the formula has remained the same, albeit with some minor changes. You can now hug the walls similar to Rainbow Six: Vegas for added cover, as well as issue orders to a machine gun team for fire suppression, and a bazooka team to battle entrenched enemies and tanks. Now, if you want a challenge from the simple run and gun gameplay of most shooters, then you will love employing your own strategies to tackle every single mission. There are multiple ways to tackle every single firefight, from setting up a base of fire and flanking left or right, using grenades, or just throwing caution to the wind going head-on and hoping for the best (which doesn't bode well at all). I remember one instance when two big groups of Germans were walking towards me in formation and I had about 5 seconds to set up an ambush or risk being slaughtered since I was out in the open. Naturally, it took several tries, but when I got it right the feeling of victory was SWEET!! It is times like this when you feel your adrenaline pump because while you have to accomplish your missions, you still have to take out the Germans while issuing orders to your teams with loads of bullets whizzing all around you. This sort of action gets your brain going this way and that, and though it may be hard to concentrate and keep your focus, you begin to understand how hard and stressful war really can be, and not just another Hollywood-sized Call of Duty 4 spectacle.

I'm getting a little tired of WWII games. Well, that's what I said before I played Hell's Highway. This game has reassured me that there are aspects that even the terribly whored out WWII genre has yet to touch. But with that aside, everyone's asking the same question, "Should I get this over Call of Duty: World at War?" Well...no. This is Call of Duty we're talking about! But Brothers in Arms: Hell's Highway is just too good to pass up.

Hell's Highway follows the mission of Operation Market Garden, and if you know your history you would know that the mission wasn't necessarily the Allies' finest hour. You assume the roll of Sgt. Matt Baker, and you're tasked with leading your squad through war ravaged Holland in order to push through the heavily fortified, tank ridden, and infamous route known as "Hell's Highway".

In many ways, Brothers in Arms is a black sheep when compared to other conventional WWII shooters. Hell's Highway is no exception. One of the biggest differences is it's emphasis on it's story and narrative. The game plays out kind of like your average high-budget war drama, like Band of Brothers or Saving Private Ryan. We've seen these kinds of stories in movies and TV shows, but you'll probably never find a WWII game this side of Call of Duty with this kind of dark and complex narrative that just sucks you in. You'll find a plethora of truly cinematic cut scenes and A plus dialog through out the game that all advance the story. That's right, it has a story. A good story as a matter of fact. The characters all look and sound like real people in a real life-or-death situation. In some ways, you start to care about some of them, and sometimes you'll hope that they'll make it out of this alive. To be frank, the story is not a pleasant one. Not only is Hell's Highway trying to focus on the horrors war, but also on the major loss of the mission the game is based off of. So when you do beat the game, you probably won't be feeling too good.

Besides focusing on it's story and narrative, Brothers in Arms also plays unlike any other WWII shooter. While most games like Call of Duty or Medal of Honor have you running into the battle and tell you to start shooting anything that speaks German, Brothers in Arms is the total opposite. The game is more strategy than a straight shoot-em-up. If you try to tackle the game like a run 'n' gun FPS, you're not going to last very long. Hell's Highway tries to focus on what it calls "The Four 'F's." "Find him. Fix him. Flank him. Finish him." This mechanic is presented virtually flawlessly with the command controls and suppression meters. Giving commands is easy and practically impossible to unlearn once you learn it. You select the team you want use with either the D-Pad or the B button, and you issue commands by holding down the left trigger. Depending on where you point the curser, the team will go to that destination selected, or start suppressing the enemy you selected. This brings up the art of suppression. Your enemies all have red circles hovering over their heads called suppression meters. They might look like the enemy's health meter, but they aren't, so don't get confused. When the suppression meter is red, it means the enemy isn't suppressed and the moment they see your movement, they'll open fire on you and your squad and probably kill you in the process. To counter this, your squad must open fire on the enemy to make the suppression meter turn gray. This will mean that the enemy is now suppressed, and this is the perfect time for you or one of your teams to go around and flank the enemy and finish them off from behind. Yes, the meters sort of make the game a bit easy. So if you want a little more challenge, just turn them off. But this whole suppression thing wouldn't work if the game didn't have good friendly and enemy AI, and boy, do they have good AI!

Brothers in Arms also tries to focus on realism. Not just in it's story, but in the battle field as well. Yes, the cover system can be used on virtually any kind of wall or barrier, but depending on what it is (like say a picket fence or wooden barrels) they can be destroyed with a few well placed shots. Even sand bags can be demolished with a well placed rocket or grenade. Hell's Highway also implements an incredibly brutal gore system. Depending on what kind of stopping power the weapon you used has, heads and limbs can be blown off and even entire bodies can be blown apart. Right when something like this happens, the game will slow down and zoom in on the, ahem, action. So if you're a fan of gratuitous blood and guts, you might find a liking here.

But probably one main thing that sets Hell's Highway apart from all other WWII shooters (that I've played at least) is that it has one thing most of them don't have, color. When ever I play Call of Duty, Medal of Honor, heck, even Wolfenstein, the main color I see is grey. Lots, and lots of boring, uninteresting grey. Grey buildings, roads, skies, everything is just so... grey! That's not the case with Hell's Highway. Blue skies, different colored buildings, sharp green foliage, red orange fires, and of course, dark scarlet blood.

I think you get the jest of my review. If you're one of those gamers that believe that WWII shooters have all but lost their touch, you NEED to play Brothers in Arms: Hell's Highway. Just, don't start playing it like you would with Call of Duty or something similar. In order to really appreciate this game, you need to play it using your squad and not your trigger finger. This is one highway you should really consider going through!

Honest reviews on Brothers in Arms: Hell's Highway - Xbox 360

The Good: Engaging story, great audio/visual package, squad based gameplay keeps it separated from the rest, decent length

The Bad: Still WWII..., relies too much on knowing other BiA games, pointless slow-mo cams, must...be...patient...

I never really liked BiA back when they first came out because 1. I didn't have a PC that could run it or an Xbox. 2. I preferred the run & gun aspect like in Medal of Honor and Call of Duty, and 3. I was too impatient back then for the tactical gameplay. I have changed since then and am not an impatient little teenager with raging testosterone. I have picked up Hell's Highway expecting a bit of a mix and thankfully there was. BiA has been known for it's tactical squad command gameplay with great AI, a great non-fictional story around the fictional WWII setting, and that's here, but it's even better.

The story goes a little something like this: You are Baker who goes through an emotional roller coaster ride with his squad mates and you really feel what the soldiers are feeling...and even tear jerking at the end. The only problem is that you have to have played previous BiA games to fully understand the story from the beginning. The story does one of those looping plot twists where it starts out at the end and goes 3 days back, then goes forward after that. The plot holes are jerking when they are filled and you really get pulled into the story. As far as I know this is the only WWII story like this. I guess you can say this is my favorite WWII game story wise and it makes me want to pick up the other two original Xbox games.

What really counts though is the game play in one of these types of games right? Well the impatient should steer clear because you CAN NOT, I repeat, CAN NOT run out and go Rambo and their Kraut @$$es. You WILL be shot down almost instantly, and this is not good if you want to restart constantly (and experience the almost too long long time). You have to position your squad mates around the various cover on the battlefield and slowly have them pin the enemies down so you can go around and flank them with...whatever you want, no you can't melee in the game so that's out...sorry only Call of Duty 3 lets you do that. Each batch of enemies has a red circle above them and when it's red they can blow your beehiney apart if you run out, but if you command your squad mates to suppress them with fire it will turn gray and you can run out...for a few seconds. The game gives you plenty of ammo so don't worry about wasting shots. I mainly used single shot rifles since head shots were mostly needed due to enemies taking cover. That's what also makes the AI so great, so say for instance you run up to the cover the enemy is behind they'll run away and hide somewhere else. Throw a grenade and they'll boogy on out of there even if their on a Flak 88!

Now you can command four types of squads: Bazooka, Base Fire, Assault, and MG. Go figure on what those all do, but they are all essential to keep you alive. Another thing that makes you REALLY think is that if you send your squad out in open fire they'll die to (but only until the next cut scene because they are all main characters...) so you have to have one squad pin the enemy down while that squad runs, so it's a leap frog type thing. This is really great and keeps things from being boring since you have to think...psh yeah who woulda thunk that a WWII shooter would make you think! Of course you have grenades, but you get a grenade ring and it's basically an auto-lock thing so just hold RB and the grenade will fly over to the enemy on it's own.

Speaking of all of that something new here is the "action cam" thing. It's kinda cool since BiA is the only game that seems to realize there was actually blood and guts in war...they don't try to purty it up for kids. Sometimes when you make a cool headshot you get a cut-a-way cam of the guys head getting all bloodied up and his helmet falling off. The same goes for explosions so you'll see guts go everywhere (get a clue EA and Activision!!! Stop being sissies!!)

If you've been wondering about the audio/visual experience this whole time it's because its good or I would have said something! The game uses the UT3 engine (you know the same one in BioShock and Gears of War?) Its nice and all yet still seems like the game came out last year. Maybe that's because the game was delayed almost a year (yet I have NO idea why). The game has great lighting effects, explosions, fire, concrete, rebar that blocks your view sometimes in the 3rd person cover...it's good but not amazing. The voice acting is really great and the whole game feels like WWII (you probably wouldn't give a damn at this point though...)

If you want to know about multiplayer don't come here because I never bothered playing it since it was a rental. I'm sure it's great and has all the multiplayer goodness that most WWII shooters have. I highly recommend this game since it has a pretty long campaign (takes about 8 hours to beat) and really concentrates on Operation Market Garden instead of the whole damn war!!! So, you really get a good idea of what that battle felt like. Don't spend $60 on this though just rent it or wait for a price drop...please...get Fallout 3!!!

First off, let me start by saying that this game is definately NOT for those who love the Call of Duty WW2 games where you're pretty much a one man army. This game has to be one of the most intense shooters I've ever played, mainly because it's so realistic and graphic. BIA is very similar to Rainbow Six Vegas (1 & 2), so if you liked those games, then you'll probably like this one. This game is a squad game, where you take the place of the man barking out commands, and your guys listen to you (most of the time). Issuing commands is VERY simple: you pick your squad (sometimes you have more than onne) then pick your target, and issue your command to attack where to go. The enemy AI is good, they fire at you and give you a good challenge, sometimes to good of a challenge. our friendly AI is fairly decent, but sometimes they do get a little mixed up. For example, they may stop firing at an enemy, they ight be on the wrong side of cover, or even get lost...but they're still decent enough.

The gameplay is pretty solid, intense, and fairly realistic. The guns are good, each has good stopping power and a good feel. The sound is AMAZING! Bullets whiz all around you, explosions leave your ears ringing, etc, etc.

All in all, this game is good. I didn't play the online mode, only the single player, but I still recommend the game to anyone seeking an intense, graphic, and fun World War 2 shooter.

Ok, I know I'm a little old to be playing this, but at 65 and all that is going on this country let alone the world, I can honestly say it is a great escape. It's simple, cute, fun, and creative. I have been a gaming grandma since 1981 when I was introduced to a computer game called Zork created at MIT, I believe. That game got me hooked on computers and games in general and since then with the birth of 4 grandchildren that I could introduce games too, it's been quite a ride. When I first played Animal Crossing "Wild World" I got hooked. I'm not a "shoot 'em up" gamer. I like adventure games and this game offers me that playful time of creating a town, meeting nice critters, build houses, bank "bells", and just have a fun moment where the arthritis doesn't hurt, the world is a better place and I can just be retired. As for children playing this game, they will come to understand that work has it's rewards, paying your bills brings you a better house, gardening makes your world prettier, sharing your finds with the museum in town is community service. It's just an all around feel good game for all ages. Another little caveat is I am playing it on my new 3D DS. Enjoy!!!

I was a huge Animal Crossing fan on the GameCube back in high school. So much so that I would wake up two to three hours early some days so I could play some before I had to catch the bus. I don't know what it was exactly that sold me so hard, but when I think of my most fond gaming memories from back then, Animal Crossing is top of the list. My siblings and I used to FIGHT over who's turn it was to play.

There have been several times were I went back, picked up my old copy, and tried to play again. Only to end up doing the turnip cheat, or time shifting like crazy and just pretty much picking weeds for the majority of my play time. I often found myself saying "what was it I loved so much after all?" and it was never quite the same. I tried Wild World, and never really could get into it, never tried the original DS version.

I was so excited for New Leaf this time LAST June that I pre-ordered it right away. I got absurdly lucky and got my copy 4 days early this year.. And I wanted to write a review on it 5 hours into playing, I loved it that much. In case there was someone out there going "oh, I loved the original but is it worth it?" YES. YES and YES.

I love this game. I cannot find one thing I do not like. It is absolutely charming. The graphics are adorable. They play true to the Animal Crossing feeling, and in my opinion look far better than Wild World did on my flat screen on the screen of my Pikachu 3DS XL. The level of customization is FAR superior than that to original Animal Crossing. I especially like being able to change the color of furniture. I love the wigs, the endless outfit options, changing your hair.. I feel like Nintendo really paid attention to all the little things that were wrong with the older games and fixed it.

This game is wonderful. I would buy every Animal Crossing fan out there a copy if I could afford it. I have so many happy memories and smiles playing this game it's actually kind of silly. I love the cheesey little lines when you catch a bug or a fish. The diving system is neat. There's even a great way to make a lot of bells without having to time shift like crazy and spend hours picking weeds.

Pros: Incredibly customizable, adorable, plesant background music, a nice change of pace getting to be The Mayor for once!, you get to pick your town layout, all the shops are together on Main Street (aside from Re-Tail, which is also fantastic Flea Market feature), AND SO MUCH MORE.

Cons: Pockets too small. But they always are. I want bottomless pockets, who doesn't? :P

Best Deals for Animal Crossing: New Leaf

Let it be known that between RPG grind-fests, oddball art games and the latest AAA titles, I enjoy an unhealthy amount of "Animal Crossing." The last portable incarnation, "Wild World", easily received hundreds of hours of my attention, and despite its myriad of problems, it remains one of the most memorable gaming experiences I've ever had. But in 2013, many of the clunky interface issues and limited span of things to do simply will not fly in a modern game. That's why I'm greatly overjoyed that Nintendo has definitely improved the AC mechanics in as many ways possible without changing the core experience here. Make no mistake, "Animal Crossing: New Leaf" is more of the same, but delivered in the best possible way.

There's not much by way of "story" here, as expected. Your custom character arrives at your custom town (the layout of which you can select at the beginning of the game) to discover that he/she is now the mayor of the town. After a brief rundown of basic game mechanics with your perky (read: adorable) secretary Isabelle, you're set loose in a town filled with talking, anthropomorphic animals. Over the course of real-world years, you're expected to expand local businesses, improve local agriculture, and turn your home into a sprawling mansion filled with rare items.

If you've played an AC game, you know the drill. The conniving Tom Nook screws you over (he does it worse than ever here, but I won't spoil) at the beginning of the game, you pay off your debt to him, your house gets upgraded, rinse, repeat. All the while, you make friends, fish, water plants, hunt bugs and dig up fossils that can sold or donated to the museum. This time around, though, there's a flea market where you can set prices for items, and buy stuff from other townsfolk. The addition of the store adds an interesting element to the game, as you find yourself going back and forth between stores, seeing where you'll get the better deals. It's a nifty little mechanic that adds a new level of depth to the game.

While this does seem like an old hat of a game on paper, it's all about the execution, which is where "New Leaf" truly excels. The controls are tighter than they've ever been, thanks to a completely retooled interface. Gone are the days of having to go into menus to dig out equipment; switching between nets, shovels, watering cans, etc, is now allocated to the D-Pad, making it much more convenient to do what you want, when you want to do it. Also welcome are little graphical changes, such as shimmering flowers to indicate you've watered them for the day, and birds that perch atop bulletin boards to indicate a new message. Little things like this help make the game more streamlined.

Another great thing about the game are the enhanced internet capabilities. Visiting your friends' towns is back, of course, but the biggest draw here is the ability to mingle with players from around the world on a tropical island. You can see what their towns look like, among other things, which is a first for the franchise. Then there's the "Dream Suite", which lets you upload a "dream" of your town to the internet for other players to explore, and the Happy Home Showcase, which lets you see the homes of other players you've met via StreetPass. This is the most online entry in the franchise yet, and it's nice to see in Nintendo embracing internet play finally; it definitely bodes well for the upcoming "Smash Bros", after "Brawl" had such an abysmal online mode.

This is also the best-looking AC yet, with beautiful textures that easily trump "City Folk". Water glistens and fluidly moves, characters have elaborate and varied animations, and every detail of the landscape is rendered with beautiful clarity. 3D helps to add an extra level of depth to the game, but other than that, it's actually one of the most unremarkable usages of the feature I've seen in a first-party 3DS title. On the audio front, we have an incredibly safe soundtrack. It's pretty and relaxing, and one of the best in the series, but it's definitely very similar to other entries, and it doesn't rock the boat in too many ways. In my opinion, it didn't need to, but a little more variety would have been nice.

Nintendo has easily made the best "Animal Crossing" game yet here. There's more to do in this than in any previous entry, the controls are pitch-perfect, and the entire experience is absolutely beautiful, especially considering that it's a handheld title. That being said, not much has changed in the core gameplay and sound department, and while that won't bother the fanbase (myself included), it makes me start to wonder how long the venerable developer can keep doing the same thing repeatedly until it starts to get old. Until then, though, "New Leaf" is a really fun little game, and one that I expect to hold me over for not months, but years to come.

Update (6/11/13): Because of the nature of this game, I'll throw up a new update every now and again if something of note pops up. Today, my game introduced the feature of public works projects and ordinances. The former allows you take requests to alter your town, then gather donations in order to complete them, and the latter lets you change the times of local stores to suit your playing time better. Also more fleshed-out is the island, at which you can eventually unlock a wetsuit that allows you to swim around (a series first.) I stand by my original score, but this is a most impressive development, and without a doubt makes it the best and most varied "Animal Crossing" yet.

Update (7/7/13): It's been about a month, and things have gotten pretty interesting! A dance club opened up in town, payments for getting a house have steeply increased, and there are still new tools to unlock and creatures to catch. The added variety of deep-sea diving definitely helps. Furthermore, the adorable Isabelle gets a much more defined personality, as does Sable, who works at the clothing store. If you build your relationship with the latter, you'll unlock the ability to get new patterns via QR codes scanned in via 3DS Camera. Not only that, but you'll get cool backstory about the Able Sisters, which ties into past games. Still a solid 8.75 in my book!

Honest reviews on Animal Crossing: New Leaf

Coming from Tumblr I can say that everyone was in an uproar over this game and I didn't realize how exciting it was until I started reading the thoughts of others. Now that I own it, I can say this is by far the best AC installment yet.

Gameplay: 9/10. Of course, everything in this game is starting out very slooooooowly. You only have a few basic stores and ways of making money. That said, it is very easy to pay off your first two loans and unlock the island, which surely means Bells will come more easily. I would suggest looking into getting the guide or borrowing it from a friend who owns it, because I believe there are more things with unlocking requirements in this version than any in the past. Plus, there are new villagers and items, and who wouldn't want to have a book full of every last one? :)

**IMPORTANT EDIT: I recommend AGAINST buying the Prima Offical (aka only English) guide out right now. I have purchased it, and as many others would say, it's full of incorrect nonsense. You would be better off purchasing the Japanese one, which has great reviews from its English owners.

Graphics: 10/10. They really outdid themselves with this one. The water looks absolutely stunning, I have to say, as they've added what appears to be a very shiny, glossy texture to it, so it looks very real. The trees and grass have very natural fading, the houses are unique and cute with their little chimneys, and all the animals appear to have a furry texture that seems to be new to ACNL. They've changed the sizes of the animals and the main character, too, making them more realistic and charming.

New features: Not sure if you knew this, but the features on this game far surpass every single predecessor by a landslide. The island is a stellar addition that earns high marks, even standing alone. There are new trees, fruits, and games to play here, a handful of which I've tried, and they're very fun.

Some of my favorite smaller features in this game are the wetsuit/swimming, building your own bridges and cute pieces in your town, the ability to change your shoes, pants and even socks, and the fortune cookies which are just plain adorable.

This is the kind of game that you want to play simply for how cute it is, and it's worth it all the way. Absolutely get it.

EDIT: ** Is anyone else having an issue with the Dream Suite? It's not an important factor for me, but... myself and some friends I know can't seem to connect to the "random" dream town feature. It keeps telling me that I have an unstable internet connection, which isn't the case.

This game is an excellent addition to the animal crossing series! There are lots of brand new items, including pants, and skirts. I'm really glad that I can wear pants or shorts, as I couldn't in the past games when I was playing as a girl. I really love that the animals are to scale with the human player, and that you can take screenshots and upload them to the internet from you 3ds. I'm very excited to begin building my town renovation projects, especially the café and dream suite.

I couldn't disagree more with the first two reviews. This is one of my favorite games. If you're looking for characters that look like they're on mega steroids and use superhuman weapons, this is not your game. If that's what you're looking for there are tons like that on the market. Aside from the censorship on extreme gore, the game has incredible depth and historical accuracy; especially the mock battles within the colosseum of rome. If you liked Gladitor, appreciate ancient history, and like a combo of hack and slash and strategy, this game is for you.

Colosseum WAS a great game in the Japanese version, you could fight many great battles and save up for very expensive but powerful armor. You could also hack the limbs of people including decapitaion.

All of this has gone now.

The American version has incredibly cheap armor and items ruining the point of saving up to get that high level armor or weapon. You cannot inflict limb severing damage even if you hit someones bare neck with a huge attack.

A dreadful shame that this game has been so literally butchered. Get the Japanese version if you can.

Colosseum is a game i picked up at blockbuster for 7 bucks. when i played it, i fell in love with the game, but noticed some flaws. it had great combat, good voilence effects, great weapon variety, but that is about it. you play as a glatiator who fights for his freedom. as you win fights, you become more popular and gain better living conditions. you need to train every other day and hone your abilities, then the next day, fight. the game is highly repetitive, but nevertheless, fun

Honest reviews on Colosseum Road to Freedom - PlayStation 2

I have to agree with the previous review in that this is a badly censored game, although it's still highly playable. You can take a few paths in the games and fight literally hundreds of battles, there is alot of different weapons and armour to collect, although it is really cheap, you can get mostly any weapon/armour on your second day.

I've never played the Japanese version but I imagine it would be much more satifying without the changes. Still worth playing though, but it does feel as if things have been changed when they shoud't have. Just my opinion.

This game on Amazon only got an average of 3 stars that is an insult to this terrific game. When I rented this game I thought it wouldn't be that great because the front and back cover did not really impress me, but after about 30 mins into the game I was totally addicted to it for about 2 weeks. Sure the game might be somewhat repetitive but what game isn't?

First things first. Looking at the larger picture of the stand it gives the illusion that it is adjustable. After researching forums before my purchase I found out that it not adjustable, despite the ring in the middle that makes it look adjustable it is not. Even the people at the store I purchased it (a certain game store) at said it was adjustable from looking at the picture, and I had to tell them I read that it wasn't. I can confirm that, because I just assembled it. In the product description it fails to tell you what the dimensions are, it is 24 inches tall. Which puts you in minimum height level for the sensor. Next it is made out of plastic, it feels durable, but I haven't had anyone bump into it yet, it is basically 2 pvc pipes put together. Once you pick up the small box it comes in you can immediately tell from the weight it isn't make out of metal. However now that I think of it, if it was made of metal and it does fall to the ground the sensor would hit the ground harder because of the weight. Maybe plastic would be better. Not sure. So with all this being said why did I rate it 4 stars when it seems like it is all I've talked about is cons.

I rate it high because I knew all these cons before purchasing (with research). I have a 73 inch Mitsubishi DLP and it is on the manufacturer stand in a very large room. The kinect requires you to be about 6 feet from the TV, which is too close with a TV this large (also which happens to be right below my ceiling fan). This stand allows me to move it a couple of feet in front of TV (and away from the fan), and put me in the sweet spot for viewing and playing. It is ideal for large TV's in a big room (it says this in the box). Since it is only 2 feet high, and you are playing the kinect standing in front of your large TV, it shouldn't be in your viewing area. In addition, I like it because the sensor is easily removed by depressing clips, and the stand is easily kept aside when not in use.

Now why did I take off 1 star. It is for the lack of product description on the box as well as the retailers. It should say somewhere what the dimensions are at least on the box. The description also says it is "Weighted, sturdy base with a sleek piano black finish", here on Amazon as well as the manufacturer website, when it is very light, not more than 1 to 2 pounds if not less. So a slight bump would knock it over. On the actual box they replace the word "weighted" with "wide," on the same sentence. Probably because most people wouldn't consider it weighted. In addition there is a slider thing on the portion top of the stand that connects to the sensor that I have no idea what it is there for. It doesn't say on the manual, and its driving me nuts why they put something there and it doesn't say in the manual what it is for. I can't figure out what is for. If you know, please reply in the comments. I would like to know.

Overall, for the same retail price or much less you can buy a foot stool, small table, toddler chair, stack of boxes, that would do the same purpose. It is quite expensive for what it really is, when you can buy speaker stand in a pair for the same price. However, if your like me and want something custom to the product, this works and does the job. Just know what your are buying before you spend the money.

This is a screw together assembly for a total height of ~24". You can however adjust the total height by removing the top 12" threaded pipe (male/male) and coupling (female/female). But I was expecting to be able to adjust it to the full working range of the Kinect... didn't the manual say to mount the Kinect between 2'-6'???

Anyway, there are 7 plastic peices.

1) Top base: which uses a quick connect of 2 pinchers to hold the kinect base

2) male/female reducer: male side is about the size of a camera tripod (although I dont have one so I couldn't verify that), female side is the size of a 15/16" gas threaded connector

3) male/male 12" pipe: same 15/16" gas thread connections

4) female/female coupler: same 15/16" gas thread connections

5) male/male 12" pipe: one side with 15/16" gas thread connection, bottom side uses a proprietory connection to the base

6) quick connect wire clip: clips to the bottom pipe, which is slightly larger than the upper pipe

7) tripod base with female insert for bottom pipe: this comes with either 3 rubber pads for the bottom or 3 velcro pads for use on carpet

I went to the local hardware store and bought:

1) two 1/2" X 12" threaded pipes (SKU: 44102)

[..]

2) three 1/2" couplers (SKU: 44884)

[..]

3) two (15/16" to 1/2") couplers (SKU: 46980)

[..]

for $20 and I made the stand taller so I could put the stand behind my TV. There is a TV mount but I dont have the playing space and I needed the kinect about a foot behind my TV, not on top of it.

I gave it high marks because I like the quick connect base at the top which allows me to quickly remove the kinect from the stand for storage.

(EDITED: this review previously contained information that became outdated and incorrect. techmannn, in the first comment on this review, pointed out the problem. Thanks for the correction!)

When I first bought this Microsoft was actually recommending that most people put their Kinect right below their TV. Then they changed their minds. Now they say "the higher the better". So, this product is a less than ideal solution. If you CAN put the Kinect above your TV, do so.

Still, though, you do absolutely need the Kinect to be completely stable, either through it being mounted somewhere or by it being on a flat surface that is deep enough for it. It's also important that it be far forward enough that it can see your feet. So, for some people's TV setups, putting it above the TV might just not be feasible. (Granted, I bought this a while ago and there may be newer mounting products out now, but at the time, certainly, there was no immediately apparent way to do it with my TV.)

Nowadays, actually, this stand works out pretty well for me we're now a two-Kinect household: one setup has lots of room to move but has a TV that's seen better days and no proper sound system; the other is pretty cramped for space, but has the good TV and the good sound system. So that second one is pretty much just voice commands and Child Of Eden. Most of the time that Kinect is just on this stand in a corner listening. But it's easy to put in place for proper play and put away again thanks to the stand. The way the furniture is set up in the first setup, I don't need any sort of a stand, but for the second, I still absolutely do.

This product is kind of flimsy and not very stable (I've almost knocked it over once already), but it gets the job done. When I first realized that with my TV setup at the time there was really no place to put the Kinect, I was glad I could just run across the street to Fry's (sorry Amazon, sometimes even Prime isn't quite fast enough) and buy this and get up and running. Someone else mentioned that you could just use a stool or something, but I liked that this product is thin and didn't really block my center speaker.

Honest reviews on Xbox 360 Kinect Floor Stand

The Xbox Kinect Stand is a holding stand for the Xbox Kinect device.

The advantage is:

-You now have a separate stand for Kinect Device.

-The top of the stand grips the Kinect device perfect.

The disadvantages are:

-There is no option to adjust height.

When i placed the stand behind my Samsung UN40C7000 LED tv, it fell short of height.

-The stand is approx a meter and half long.

-The three legged base cannot rotate.

So if you have a small Tv stand with not enough space behind then all the three legs cannot be placed stable.

-The stand has a risk of falling and crashing the Kinect mounted on it.

I bought this stand in order to use the Kinect as a standalone device on a PC with the recently released open source PC drivers. First, there's one major disadvantage and that is you have to use both segments in the stand, meaning there is no height adjustment. That said, I am thrilled that they made the top part unscrew and put a standard size hole that works perfectly with your off the shelf tripod. If you don't mind paying $20 to get a Kinect tripod mount, this is an awesome product.

The stand unscrews into four pieces that pack up nicely if you need to travel and assembles/disassembles quickly.

Cheap Elevator Action

Elevator Action

This was one of my favorite arcade games when I was in high school. I was shocked to see that after nearly 20 years that it was available for Game Boy. I bought this one for myself, sure that my 10 year old son would not care for it. This is the type of game in which the player clears levels. Each level gets more difficult. There isn't anything complicated about the way this game progresses. In this game the player plays a thief who is trying to pick up what I believe are floppy disks. The setting is a cross-section of a building of many floors with rows of doors on each floor and escalators on either end of each floor. The elevator is in the center of the building. Armed security people can come out of the doors at any time and shoot at the thief, who can then duck or jump over the bullets (and shoot back of course.) The player can also shoot out the lights to temporarily make the room dark to aid in sneaking off to a safer area. One funny way to get rid of the people chasing the player is to make them get squashed underneath the elevator. Once all the disks are picked up, the player advances to the next level, which will contain more security people and eventually dogs. This game is good for people of all ages because the first two or three levels are easy (but still fun), making it good for younger players, while the more advanced levels are very challenging. I was certain my son would not like this game, but he loved it. In fact, it was his favorite game for a while. In no time at all, he could advance to a level past what I could reach. I highly recommend this game for an adult who misses the older arcade games, or for a youth who is tired of the modern-style adventure games.

Bionicle ( for XBOX ) Review

Bionicle

I had a chance to preview this game recently and I was not expecting much. Lego's previous electronic games (mostly for the PC) have been bloated platforms with terrible graphics and so-so game play. However, this title is a complete turnaround from the previous examples. My 8-year-old is gonna LOVE this game!

My 6 year old son is a Bionicle fan, and he also loves platform-style games, so this title is a perfect fit. I think that, for the target audience, the game is well done. It is short; my son beat it in two days all by himself (except for two fights that I did for him). It might be better if it were priced in the thirty dollar range, because of the length. But there is a good mix of action/platforming gameplay involved, and it never gets too difficult. If you die, you just restart the section you were on, with no penalty, no limit on "lives", nothing. Very kid-friendly. Argonaut Games also created the excellent I-Ninja, so there's a quality developer behind the title. The graphics are not really up to Xbox standards, but for a multi-platform release they are serviceable and do have some nice lighting effects. The story also ends up reflecting events in the Mask of Light DVD movie, so if you're familiar with that, it will add another dimension to the game for you. Bottom line: if you are wondering if this game is worth your money, I say yes if you are buying it for a younger Bionicle fan. It's a game he or she will enjoy and will actually finish in a few days (how many unfinished games do you have sitting on your shelf?)

This game will definetly NOT appeal to hard-core gaming fans, but fans of BIONICLE(which I am) and Kids should like it. It's fairly easy, but we just recently got an Xbox and this was the first game we tried on it(you can't try something like Halo and expect to be good at it right away).

BIONICLE fans might find something lacking about it, and I'll tell you: Not enough levels. The only Original Toa you can play are Tahu and Kopaka, and then you play all the Toa Nuva in turn EXCEPT Kopaka Nuva. Oh well.

Still, don't be put off by video game review websites or some lousy customer reviews. It IS a fun game, has some challenging parts, and has good graphics(not amazing, but still good). The stupid "bad camera angles" are junk talk, because you can control the angle(except for a few parts, but what it's doing is showing you the way)and it looks fine to me.

It's a great game, and pretty well designed for a Kid's game.

Honest reviews on Bionicle ( for XBOX )

This game is awesome on the xbox. I used to have this game for pc and it SUCKS on pc. On the xbox it runs perfectly smooth. As a bionicle fan, this game is so cool, it's perfect. it has top notch voice acting, combat, story, and music. The only flaw this game has is the game length; it barely took me an hour to finish it. This needs to be a 40-hour long RPG. Still it's a good game; but ONLY if you are a bionicle fan.

This could be more fun if it wasn't so short. The game also freezes a couple times on my 360. Also the game doesn't have much story and some parts have no explanation as to what's going on.

Like the first country track pack, the guys at Harmonix have picked a solid bunch of tracks. I play drums primarily, and in normal life I can't really call my self a fan of the genre, but these songs are all fun to play, though none are especially difficult.

As a stand-alone game, CTP2 isn't quite as solid. It uses the original RB engine (as opposed to RB2 or RB3), and it's stripped down for track-pack duty there's no character creation, and solo tours are abbreviated to match the 21 song playlist. Still, there are something like 250G worth of easily-picked-up acheivements here, and even an old guy like me had just about all of them after only a few of hours of "work".

Overall, if you are tolerant of modern country music and an avid Rock Band player, this is an excellent way to add 21 tracks to your library though you'll have to buy new to ensure you get a valid download code.

The first country track pack was good and so was this one. The songs in here are a little more upbeat compared to the previous track pack.

This plays just as well as the Rock Band Country Track Pack 1!! I bought the first one and this one because me and my boyfriend are into country music. We are a team while he plays the guitar and I sing on the mic. It was great, the disc is in perfect condition!!

This was almost a perfect birthday gift for my son, but I didn't realize it was for the older rock band instruments. I haven't heard them play with it since the first day.

Enjoyed the game very much. I'm not a huge country fan but loved rocking out to this game. Wouldn't pay full Xbox game prices for it, but was a good deal at the price I paid.
