Xbox 360 Modern Warfare 2 Throat Communicator - Snow Review

Xbox 360 Modern Warfare 2 Throat Communicator - Snow

I was looking for something different. The OEM Xbox 360 headset would always become uncomfortable after an hour or so

of use for me. The foam/sponge "ear-speaker cover" would bother my ear and the hard plastic opposite end would dig into the other side of my head.

I had been looking all over (including in Japan) for a cool headset. I didn't want one that also played the sound from the game (ie. stereo or 5.1 audio),

I have an audio system for that, I just wanted a better communicator headset for talking with friends.

I saw this on a "popular game review site" and immediately went and got one.

I opened it. It felt like quality plastic and rubber. It had a durable feel to it. I was excited. Heck, I could even drink and not have to move the mic.

Perfect, right?

It fit a little tight around my lower neck, but I could deal with that. The ear pod was a little big and was deeper than say a traditional iPod ear bud.

It wasn't super comfy personally, but again, I could deal with it.

Problem #1

I plug it into the controller. The plug didn't fit super tight and it did that static thingy in my ear which made it seem like the connection wasn't all there.

it felt 3rd party-ish if you know what I mean. I was expecting it to kinda plug and lock in there, but it felt too loose for my liking.

Problem #2

So I connect with some friends. They say I sounded bad, too much static, so I looked closely and noticed that it came with the mute switch turned "on" (default setting? really?).

But if the mute was on, why could they hear me?

So I switched the mute to "off".

My friends said I sounded fine with the throat mic. I was actually surprised they said they couldn't tell the difference between my voice

with the Mad Catz product and the OEM Xbox headset.

Problem #3

My friends sounded drunk/inebriated. Their voices sounded horrible. I switched over to the OEM Xbox headset and they sounded fine. The ear piece had

horrible audio. It sounded like cheap equipment.

So basically the only good things are I can drink with it on and I sound OK, but the other issues were too much for me.

I can't express enough how bummed I am that this product isn't that good.

Oh well, I will repackage it up and return it.

The search continues.

Tested this thing multiple ways and the results were the same.

At first no one responded to me with multiple adjustments on the volume control and mute switch. So I hooked up system link(I have a line in a separate room for when my friends bring their box and they can use the other TV, that's why we use mics.) and nothing but static and a loud buzzing over the systems. Picks up background noise but not my voice.

The throat piece is not adjustable but comfortable after you adjust to it. But since no one can hear me...well doesn't matter how it fits.

switched between my turtle beach x1, the extremely uncomfortable stock mic and then this. Same problems each time with the throat mic.

I've used the real deal in the military so I thought this was a great idea, and it is, but that's all this is, a gimmick, and over priced at that.

Ironically the name snow attached to this product link is right on the mark, that's all anyone hears in game.

This game is A+. By far, the best boxing game out and I've played them all. Don't be scared by the total punch control. It takes all but an hour or two to get a feel for it and it is so much more rewarding than button mashing your buttons so that you need a new controller every month.

Career mode is indepth. You start out with 4 fights a year, then down to 3 and so on until retirement. You have your choice of opponents and in some cases you will be presented the opportunity to schedule a fight against someone that is much higher ranked or lower ranked than you. Purses are realistic and increase as your ranking improves. The level of realistic difficulty is back and so is strategy. No more automatic first round KO's by going in and just punching non stop. If you try to do that here, you'll find yourself out of steam quick and needing to recharge and block punches to regain it. This game is not easily mastered overnight like Knockout Kings, or HBO boxing.

Use your money earned to buy different clothing, equipment, entrance gimmicks liky pyrotechnics, entourage (women in skimpy clothing that lead you into the ring). There is so much to this game. Before each fight, you will schedule a bout first. Next, you train. There are 4 different rotating training sessions.

1. Heavy Bag

2. Sparring

3. Combo Dummy

4. Hitting the Mitts

You will only be allowed to do one per fight and depending on your success...you will be given attribution points to improve your fighter. Note: Each session allows you to improve on 2 attribution categories. There are 8 total...IE. Power, speed, stamina, body, chin, heart, agility, cuts:

After training, you will go fight your fight. You can spend money on new attire, equipment etc in between fights. You can view your rankings, in depth rankings of other fighters. There are tons of unlockables that you will unlock as you win bigger fights opening up new sig punches, attires, entrance music, et in the fight store.

After each year, awards are given out and you will see a list of fighters that retired, which will be replaced obviously by fresh ones.

In between rounds, various stats will be shown, and they are different from round to round. Three judges score on the 10 point must system.

Last comment: Everyone is entitled to their opinions, but take my word for it, the soundtrack is not that annoying nor is the announcer. It gets old after awhile, but you would have to be nuts to not buy a great boxing game because you don't like hip hop. Trust me, neither do I! If you play any video game long enough the music gets old. Sorry If I jumped around a bit, but I wanted to give you as much detail as I could. If you are a die hard boxing fan, this is a must.

I just put five dollars down to reserve the game and received a free demo disk. I have played the demo disk a total of 40 minutes and here are my observations.

First I cannot totally judge the game because the demo has inverted controls (move your stick to the right and the boxer moves left)and a close-up angle, plus it only allows a two round fight with double time. I am always perplexed as to why they screw you on a demo since ultimatley it will be the thing which may cause you to buy the game. I wish the options to change view as well as undo the invert were activated. I can see someone playing this demo for 5 minutes and giving up before truly understanding the game..just ridiculous.

That said, the mechanics of the new engine were my real area of interest. As someone who first got into videogames simply due to hoping for a great boxing game (I fell in love with 4D Boxing for the PC back in the early 90s, which is the best boxing game ever created), this game represented a hope for me after the horrid Knockout Kings 2002 in which EA produced a generic button masher with a career mode that resembles something you would find in Tecken.(I should add that Knockout Kings 2001 on PS2 is actually an awesome game that any boxing fan should purchase.)

Well, my first 10 or so rounds were spent trying to figure out the use of the total punch control. This uses one of the analog sticks as the means to throw all the punches (you can also use the buttons if you are traditional). Pushing the stick to the upper left throws a left jab. Pushing to the upper right throws a straight right. Throwing hooks, uppercuts and body blows are more complicated (the demo had no instructions)but as I played I found them to suddenly become more intuitive. The demo allows you to be either Roy Jones or James Toney with the other boxer being your opponent. I am not sure of the difficulty level, but I have not actually gotten the better of my opponent yet. But, as I have played I have begun doing better and that really gives you a sense of learning the game.

So what do I think of the new system? Well, the punching is so precise that you can bring back the ctick to throw a hook, hold the punch until your opponent throws a shot, and then time your counter. My timing still needs work, but it is very evident that this new engine will soon become so intuitive that you will truly feel like you have total control. This is the first boxing game in which counter punchers can win a fight. I am very interested in playing as Winky Wright as I feel this type of control is perfect for him.

I have to admit to being skeptical on the new total control system, thinking that not using any buttons would be awkward and less fluid. I was totally wrong. In fact, in one fight I went back to using the buttons (each is assigned a punch like in previous games)and felt much more awkward. It was simply amazing how fast the new control won me over.

So I am very happy to report (after the disastrous KO Kings 2002) EA is back in the boxing business. Rather that simply giving us a generic boxing game they have created a product which truly make beomce a landmark in boxing video games. I have to stress I have not played the final product, and do not know how good the career mode is, but based on my initial tests I would reccomend this game to anyone interested in a game in which you actually have to think and not button mash. Very impressive!

You know...there IS something cathartic about beating the stew out of someone. One of the great things about this game is there's no threat of a civil suit!

EA Sports continues to dominate the sports sim genre with this entry. I'll confess I'm an "old" gamer (started with Pong and grew up on Defender & Asteroids--though Dig Dug was my masterpiece), but I really enjoyed the entirely new concept of joystick-only controls. I find it far more intuitive and is better than being out-mashed (as in "button mashing") by my son who's memorized the triangle/circle/triangle...etc. secret code.

My son & I get a great laugh out of beating one another without actually resorting to physical blows. We can talk thru an issue, taunt one another, knock each other out, and get up with nary a scratch or bruise. Some of you out there may not consider the Sweet Science to be father-and-son fodder...so don't buy it.

Highly recommended. While I agree with some other reviewers regarding the paucity of Big Name boxers, EA probably saved us each $5 by not having to pay hefty endorsement fees. If you don't like that Hector is missing, you can always make him yourself with 100's across the board.

Definitely a knockout!

Fight Night can be alot of fun, but it's certainly not the best boxing sim I have ever seen.

I actually still prefer KO Kings 2001, to this game. KO King 2001 had clinching, 4 types of cheat punches, realistic cuts, realistic fighter entrance music, realistic commentary(From Teddy Atlas and Max Kellerman), and realistic and fun special punches...

Fight Night just isn't a realistic boxing sim. Cuts open way too easy, there is no clinching, the commentary from Big Tiger is horrible. Whoever decided to hire Big Tigger instead of real boxing commentators should be beaten with a crowbar.

This game is overrated, but for good reason. EA's last 2 boxing games were horrible. Fight Night is certainly a step back in the right direction.

I sold my copy of Fight Night. It just gets boring after a while. I am going to wait for FN 2005. If EA doesn't have Big Tigger, I will probably purchase the game....

Well if there was any doubt that the PS3 would be able to hit a homerun and kick start the console those fears can be laid to rest as Insomniac delivers one of the finest games to grace any console.

Ratchet and Clank Future: TOD will go down as one of those games that changed the landscape for platform games. Why? Well for one if you have ever had the dream of wanting to actually play a Pixar movie this is as close as you're going to get. The graphics are nothing short of amazing and truly shows off the real potential of what the PS3 is capable of producing. If you have an HDTV set that can handle 720p or higher you are in for a real treat as your TV is going to be bursting with smooth frame rates, tons of characters on screen and loads of beautiful colors. It's just total eye candy at every single turn. You will be blown away.

The game play is smooth as butter too. Smashing enemies and blowing things up is a real joy in this game and the action never lets up, not for a bit. The game has a pace to keep even the most hardcore gamer on their toes moving faster then a Lombax with his tail on fire it just keeps the adrenaline junky satisfied. You will not get bored playing this game.

Humor wise this is one of those rare games will you be laughing out loud to. This is like I stated above playing a Pixar movie. Not only for the graphics but the actual content of voice acting and story line. It's just fun all the way around.

One thing I wanted to point out that had me smiling from ear to ear was the sound. WOW! If you have a 7.1 system you will be blown away by the uncompressed 7.1 PCM that this game delivers. This is what your home theater system was bought for and it really shines in this game. Totally immersing and very impressive down to the last bolt pinging across the room in glorious 7.1!

In closing this is without a doubt a must have game. This is the type of game that can and will sell systems. PS3 owners can breathe a sigh of relief that all the promise of the great next gen games that were coming for the PS3 have finally started to arrive and Ratchet and Clank is a benchmark of excellence that will be leading the way into the holiday season.

Enjoy!

I have always been a little slow on getting into platformers. Usually my intrest wains after a few hours. As beautiful as this game is I was thinking I would fall into the same trap. So I decided to give it an hour. I couldn't put the controller down. The problem became so bad that I couldn't get up. Yes it is that addictive.

What makes this game a masterpiece is not just the beautiful graphics or the exciting storyline. The fun characters keep it going but what really impresses me is the diversity of each level. I have played this game for over six hours and each level looks completly different from the next. From being in the asteroid belt to going to a destroyed city and then travelling thru a prehistoric land.

Ratchet & Clank Future: Tools of Destruction should be on everyones buy list. This is what gaming is all about. For children or adults this game doesn't discriminate. Never overlly difficult and not to simple. This game does it well on all levels.

Best Deals for Ratchet and Clank Future: Tools of Destruction - Playstation 3

This is arguably best platformer I have ever played. This game really captures the feel of a pixar movie and throws in great gameplay. If you have a PS3, you owe it to yourself to buy this game. If you do not have a PS3, well you're just crazy ;) this machine is pure class.

This is the best looking game 'til date on any platform. I literately just stop playing and admire the beautiful environment.

Pros

+ Best graphics this generation so far. This is Pixar quality people!

+ Gameplay is very well done.

+ Very fun to play

+ Crazy weapons that will have you trying different things out for days. Groovitron will rock you!

+ Good Lasting Appeal. Like all Rachet and Clank games this one will give you alot of mini games and reruns to keep you busy.

+ 12-15 hrs of regular game without counting the extras.

Cons:

If your played the previous games, it may not seem as original...

Yeah I really have to reach to come out with a negative, sorry there just isnt much wrong with this game.

Don't believe me? How about the critics?

100/100 GamePro

An amazing PS3 game that fully leverages the power of the console. It sets the bar high for not only the series but for all PS3 games to come. It is, without a doubt, reason enough to buy the system.

100/100 GameTap

It's rare that a game critic feels the way I do about this game, but in all honesty, I find it really difficult to find something that's not to like. The controls feel great. The graphics look great. The score sounds great. The weapon selection alone make me want to play the game over and over again, just to test out all the cool offered.

95/100 PSM Magazine

Combines absolutely jaw-dropping graphics with familiar platforming/shooting mechanics and genuinely funny humor to make one of the PS3's few true masterpieces.

94/100 IGN

Not only has it supplanted Going Commando as the best title in the franchise, it's also the best game of any series on the PlayStation 3 thus far -and that's saying a lot when you're up against Oblivion, Ninja Gaiden, Warhawk and Insomniac's very own previous effort, Resistance: Fall of Man.

New York Times "This is like playing a Pixar movie"

Honest reviews on Ratchet and Clank Future: Tools of Destruction - Playstation 3

Let's face it you love the PS3 and everything about it, except the games that are out. You were wondering when is that game going to come out that is going to make it truly irresistible to own the PS3 for those who are hesitant buying it just for the blu-ray movie value. This is that game! Our family has always been fans of the R&C series and own all the games except the PSP "Size Matters" game.

The graphics and sound are truly stunning in this game. I agree with the other reviewer who died looking at the backgrounds you will keep falling off the map watching the graphics in the game. With this R&C you believe you are playing in a Pixar movie.

This is the game we have been waiting for one that is truly playable and looks and sounds amazing. It's time to buy that PS3 if you don't own one already.

Got this game for my 5 and 9 year old sons who love Shrek and enjoyed the movie. The game is loosely based on the movie where Shrek is tricked into signing a contract to become an ogre for a day. When he realizes that he's been tricked he sets out with his trusted friends to get it back from Rumpelstiltskin. The game can be played with up to 4 persons and you'll play as either, Shrek, Donkey, Puss or Fiona. If you're into achievements though then you'll have to be signed in as the primary player as only the primary player gets the achievements. The game is pretty easy and fun for younger kids since you only really use two buttons throughout, A to fight and B for their special moves. You occasionally use the X button when you pick up power-ups but they aren't necessary. You'll be fighting witches, trees and the usual bad guys found in the movie.

You may have to help out the younger ones with a few of the puzzles, like the ones in Dragon Keep, the Catacombs and Rumpelstiltskin's Castle. The main bad guys, Fairy Godmother, Pied Piper and Rumple are actually pretty easy to beat and the kids enjoyed beating them on their own. The music while fighting the bad guys are also catchy and you might remember a few of them from Shrek 2 the movie. The voice overs are also pretty good and some of the sayings will make you laugh.

I give this game an A for family fun. It's finally good to have a game where the entire family can play.

People who rate this low were probably having the same problem that I was (until I fixed it)--

Windows recognized the adapter/controller combo, but pushing buttons and moving the d pad didn't seem to do anything (or it would like like I was pressing *everything* at once).

-Fixed by *slightly* bending the pins inward (outward might work too) to make better contact with the sockets on the controller. I *think* the pins are slightly smaller than on the original NES. Whatever the problem is, if the connection isn't made, the device will appear to be broken.

I attempted to buy the "Retrolink" adapter shown in the image above, but was shipped a "Retro-bit" branded adapter. I was disappointed not to get what was shown in the image on the Amazon.com web page where I added it to my shopping cart. I'm even more disappointed by the adapter's performance. When I use it to plug in my NES controller, I find crosstalk between my buttons, and I'm unable to properly calibrate it. Up, Left, and Right on the D-pad work, but Down crosstalks with Left, button 1 crosstalks with button 2, button 2 crosstalks with button 3, button 3 crosstalks with button 4, and button 4 crosstalks with Up. The result is that my games get multiple button responses when I press only one button. This is terribly disappointing. It may be possible to crack open the adapter and do some soldering or other surgery on its guts, but I lack the tools and skills for that, and I'd rather have my money back. Two big thumbs down for the shoddy workmanship of the product that was shipped to me instead of what I ordered.

This is like the sweetest thing ever made. It turns your computer into a nintendo, a nintendo with every nintendo game ever made. No more using the stupid keyboard to try and blast aliens in Contra. No more running Bo Jackson out of bounds when your finger slips going for the last score in tecmo bowl. Serious, GET THIS THING. You won't be sad.

I use it with Nestopia for my mac. You need to download and install the emulator enhancer (don't forget to restart) Then it should ask you to configure the joystick when it reboots. If not just go to configure joystick in the menu and you're good to go.

Honest reviews on Retrolink Nintendo NES USB Adapter for PC and Mac

If you're using an NES emulator, you've probably run into the same problem I had: finding a controller that mimics the originals. It seems no modern USB controller quite got the D-pad right. This simple accessory solved my problem. Finally, Mario is once again able to climb those bean stocks without constantly falling off.

Find helpful customer reviews and review ratings for Retrolink Nintendo NES USB Adapter for PC and Mac

It is a "retro-bit" adapter, as all the other reviews mention.

I first thought I was going to have a problem with this adapter. I use Windows 7 and the VirtuaNES emulator. The adapter was recognized automatically, no drivers need to be updated. So Windows 7 recognized the adapter as the "NES Controller USB" in Control Panel. Right click the controller and choose "Game Controller Settings." "NES Controller USB" should already be highlighted and then choose "Properties." Go to the Settings tab and calibrate the controller.

What happened to me was this: the regular NES controller did not function properly. I initially tried to calibrate it and nothing would work. However, I moved the pins a little as another reviewer suggested to get a more "snug" connection, and that seemed to allow most of the buttons on the original NES controller to function. The D pad still did not work completely, only certain positions, even though it works completely fine on my NES.

However, I tried a different controller, an NES Max controller, and everything calibrated fine and playing games worked great. So the adapter does work, but I guess it depends on the controller. I really think the "snug connection" is the main issue as others have mentioned, that my NES Max controller just had a better connection to the adapter than my regular NES controller. And the bottom line is this: if the controller won't calibrate properly, then it will not work properly with the controller, so you have to check the calibration in control panel first.

4 stars because it works, but it took a little extra time to get it to work. I would have given it 5 stars if I didn't need to troubleshoot all of this.

Luckily, I had a second controller.

The Transformers video game for XBox 360 that was released with the first film was designed by Travelers Tails (company best known for Lego Starwars, Lego Batman, etc...). That game had many flaws in terms of control, overall simplicity, etc... It was a typical run-of-the-mil movie tie in game given little effort to work out the kinks or provide players with any depth of play.

This title is the first fruit from Activison's exclusive deal with Hasbro to bring TF console and PC games to market (there will be more time come and not all movie tie-ins either). While this game isn't perfect, it's a big leap forward in many areas. I'm written this review for those who've played the previous game, here's a short-list of what they've improved/fixed.

1. Melee combat is now challenging and viable. You can charge attacks, pull of combos, etc...

2. The targeting system is hugely improved. With primary and secondary weapons.

3. Once a Transformer has been unlocked (after using that Transformer in a mission) then that Transformer can be selected for any following mission (in other words, players aren't locked into playing a specific transformer for certain missions).

3. Each character has a unique ability (e.g. Rachet can heal, Bumblebee can stun).

4. Players earn points and can spend them on upgrades!

5. Vastly improved enemy AI (e.g. they transform and run evade when damaged then come back in).

6. On-line head to head multiplayer with different forms of combat (when you combine this with the improved melee and specialty abilities, it's quite nice)

I've only gotten about 1/4 of the way done with it, but it's almost as if Activision went down the list of players complaints and tried to make exactly the type of game we wanted. It's still a movie tie-in game in that you're playing out the movie, but it's done right.

Not sure what else I would add here. I suppose allowing two or more players to team up in the missions would be something to consider adding in the the next game, but overall this is quite nice. Kudos to the dev team!

Click Here For Most Helpful Customer Reviews >>

I won't waste too much time repeating what others have said, so I'll keep it short. The game is certainly solid and fun. Being able to transform anytime and actually incorporate it into your attacks is a beautiful touch. The only bad thing is that when transformed into vehicle form, you MUST move, and don't have the ability to just sit there at a stop.

The game is pretty repetitive, the missions are basically the same--drive to this spot and fight a bunch of opposing transformers, mission over. But its fun for a few hours and is certainly worth the rental price.

Best Deals for Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen - Xbox 360

There are multiple reasons why this game is better than the first. Firstly the game is more focused on gun combat than melee combat, secondly you can transform in mid-air using a new unique control, and thirdly new characters for each campaign and a variety of characters as well. Your enemy robots don't have their force field up everytime you fire your gun weapon unlike the first game, which spices up the destruction! This game is challenging and an AWESOME game to play!

Honest reviews on Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen - Xbox 360

Being able to play as a giant transforming robot, whether good or evil, is one of the many childhood fantasies many kids, and nerds, have had. Now you can play as the Autobots and Decepticons in "Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen." The game is loosely based off of the movie but it takes you through a number of missions that aren't in the movie itself. Whether you're an Autobot or a Decepticon, you end up fighting some familiar Transformers on the other team. Some of the missions include: destroying the other team's army and protecting and/or leading the way for allies. It's straightforward, but it's so much fun if you're into Transformers or playing as over-sized characters.

The replay value in this game is a bit better than the first Transformers game. Sure you can still play as both Autobots and Decepticons, but the plethora of missions, unlockables, and achievements make this game one that you can keep coming back to. Not to mention there's a really fun online mode that was absent in the first game.

The controls are redone this time around and are better to handle. There is a slight learning curve if you were used to the controls on the first Transformers game, but it won't take you long; even if you're a novice to these games.

"Revenge of the Fallen" is probably the most fun I've had with a movie tie-in video game. Most video games, based directly off the films, are pretty bare bones and have little, to no, replay value. Not to mention some of them just aren't fun and the controls can be pretty shoddy (Jaws Unleashed anyone?). There are a lot of neat unlockables to be had here, including some G1 episodes. The collection of Autobot and Decepticon icons in each playable area can help you unlock gobs of achievements if you're into increasing your gamerscore.

In conclusion, it's a really fun game that will give you hours of game time. If you're into Transformers, or any sort of giant playable characters roaming around a cityscape, this game is for you. I recommend checking it out.

That basically sums up this unrequited gem from the dawn of the 360. After picking this up for just over ten dollars, I was pleasantly surprised to find its incredibly fun. Granted, I played this on easy, for when I see a listing of easy, normal, hard, and insane, I read rather no frustration, some frustration, frustration, and homicidal rage primer. Even on easy this managed to be challenging at points.

You play Cole, a hunter by trade. After your father and you drop off your latest chops to a steamboat, the boat is ambushed by a fake preacher and a detachment of confederate holdouts. After your father is killed, you run to Dodge City at his instruction, carrying a silver token that earns you a deathmark. The story follows like a fairly decent western as you try to unravel your fathers history and the plot of a rogue confederate general.

Along the way, you play cards, hunt wild game, scalp bandits(or innocents), chase down outlaws, and serve as a dodge city deputy. All of these serve to increase stats and supply you with cash for gun upgrades and other improvements. Combat is incredibly fast, and while you can easily be overwhelmed by the materialization of a dozen brigands, your matrix like quick draw powers can easily even the score, and the mechanic is theatrical enough to not ever lose its charm. Sneaking and other non-combat mechanics are rather lame and overly useless, but you'll not really notice. Voices and characters are detailed and engaging, and several voices are perfect for there parts, and despite the main character failing to impersonate Roland Deschain or Clint Eastwood, you'll find yourself rooting for him all the same.

Not much replay value, unless you're a diehard gamerpointer and enjoy frustration, but its a fun experience, an easy 900-ish gamer points, and a story that'll make you smile.

Loved this game, people say its short but thats because there is no filler. Th story moves along at a good pace. Alot of really good gaming moments in this. Also not that it is a big deal, but the voice acting is superb. It helps the story so much. I love this game and I can see me playing it again. I can play good games over and over, with maybe a small break. Ths is one of my favorite games on the 360. Such great style. Musc = very good, voice acting = never seen better in a game, Gunplay = entertaining.

Honest reviews on Gun - Xbox 360

I played Gun years ago on ps2 and it was one of my favorite titles on that console. A lot has changed in the gaming world since Gun was released in 2005, however this game is still on my personal top 5 list of Xbox 360 games out there. Gun is very deep and has a great story line. It also offers a lot of extra features like side missions, etc. I still have just as much fun playing Gun as I do playing Red Dead Redemption. You will not be disappointed with this game.

It's probably more accurate to call this game Marines vs. Aliens vs. Predator. The single-player campaign is divided into three perspectives. You can play as a Marine, an Alien, or a Predator. Each species' campaign takes place in exactly the same locations, but since your abilities change from species to species, the game-play in each mission remains fresh. As a marine, you're limited to the ground. As a Predator, you gain vertical mobility, since you're capable of jumping short distances to higher locations, such as tree limbs or ledges. The Alien's perspective is truly unique, as you can climb along any surface and jump short distances. Seeing these environments from the ceiling, and thus upside-down, is quite interesting.

It's important to point out that both the Alien and the Predator incorporate a level of stealth. As the Predator, you have a cloak which renders you nearly invisible to most enemies. As the Alien, you can easily hide in dark corners or on ceilings, where most enemies can't find you. The marine, by contrast, seems mostly helpless, without any stealth and virtually no cover-system.

None of the campaigns are masterpieces at storytelling. The marine campaign starts off as most Alien-related stories do. And, as a matter of fact, ends mostly the way Aliens ends. There are two halves of the Marine campaign it's almost as if there was a change in story or development. Your squad-mate "Tequila", ends up harvested and pretty much disappears from the game after you get 60% of the way through. It all makes sense in the end, but the transition seems unnecessary. By contrast, the Predator and Alien campaigns are fairly cohesive, with clear goals and objectives. However, each of them require taking your objectives from on-screen prompts, since technically neither the Predator or Alien speaks "English". As the Predator, I often found myself missing objectives because sometimes this information was communicated in the middle of action. It's really hard to read scrolling text and watch the action at the same time.

From a control perspective, the Marine is the easiest to handle. Movements are smooth. Targeting is spot-on, with excellent hit detection. Only the rifle allows you to closely target your enemies, but in this type of battle, you wouldn't expect to slowly take aim with an assault rifle and target aliens who are charging toward you. The aliens move fast, and you'll be spraying bullets. The Predator allows you to target a specific enemy or location to which you want to jump. It was really difficult, however, trying to find a branch or ledge to which to jump it wasn't always clear. Like the Marine, the Predator is mostly FPS. The Predator also features a weak and strong attack however, connecting with the strong attack is difficult. Overall, the game seems to suffer from a distance-perspective issue it's not clear how close you need to be to an enemy to hit it. The best part of the Predator is the battle disc a small glaive-like disc that you can hurl at enemies and have return to your hand, much like a boomerang. If you ever played Dark Sector, it's much like the glaive from that game.

The alien's controls? This definitely takes some practice. Transitioning from the floor to a wall requires you to press the right-trigger. Holding the right-trigger indefinitely actually just makes things easier, so it's hard to understand why Rebellion just didn't make surface transition automatic. Unlike the marine and Predator, the Alien has no weapons. You are limited to strong and weak attacks, and like the Predator, I found it extremely challenging to connect with strong attacks. Many times, I just lashed-out with a string of weak attacks. Fortunately, unlike the Marine and Predator, who both require "health packs" of sorts, the Alien regenerates health.

The game features some really challenging but not-impossible-to-beat bosses. You'll feel satisfied after these fights. From a replay perspective, there are some decent Xbox 360 achievements to pursue. Each species has its own collectible the most interesting of which are audio diaries that you collect as a marine. These help to fill in the back-story. The collectibles for the Predator and Alien are uninspired, but finding them all is a must for completionists.

Technically, the game is superb. The audio is extremely well-engineered it sounds exactly like an Alien-franchise movie. Graphically, it looks great on current-gen consoles. The aliens and Predators look and move great. Lighting is eerie and appropriate. After nearly two play-throughs of the marine campaign, I did not encounter a single graphical hiccup. It's a smooth game with lots of polish.

Is this a game you should play? Definitely. It may not be able to hold a candle to other FPS titles, but it's not really trying to be an FPS. What this game offers is fun you'll be tense, sweating, and probably cursing at times. It offers just the right amount of frustration and challenge.

I've been playing this game since the demo and received the game today. I was pleasantly surprised on how they did things. It is easy to get the hand of things once you play it a while. The levels are kind of bland, but if you are like me and enjoy games offline and online then it's definitely worth it.

Pros-

-It's AVP! Its back!

-Fun system to choose whether or not you would like to be an alien, predator, or human.

-Unique idea for the most part

-Fun online multiplayer (this will keep you occupied and on edge the whole time)

-Easier learning gap then most FPS's.

Cons

-The graphics aren't as good as I was expecting, most FPS games have a bit better graphics but the graphics on this aren't bad don't get me wrong.

-The trophy kills are horrible in multiplayer, if you do one it's a big chance someone is right behind you to do one to you (similar to the chainsaw on gears of war)

-Some races need tweaked. (I felt that alien was the most powerful in all aspects of online play)

-There should be a better campaign, but I'm satisfied.

All in all it's a great game. I would definitely rent it to make sure you like it, or try the demo first. But if it's your thing hop in. Well worth the purchase for me.

AvP was a smash hit comic book back in 1990, pitting the two most ruthless monsters in the universe against each other in a bloody battle to the death, with humans thrown in for good measure (and let's face it, a plot!). Inevitably, the idea was expanded to a toy line, then a video game franchise, then (shudder) a movie franchise. Frankly, of all the "Big 3" spin offs, the video game series proved to be the best. Starting ironically on the ill-fated Atari Jaguar, AvP was first created as a Doom-ish corridor shooter. It was much slower paced than Doom or other FPS games of the time, but it somehow successfully captured the feeling of playing as the Alien, the Predator and the Colonial Marines. Each species had its own unique play style, with arguably the Alien being the most unique of the three. It wasn't until 1999, some 5 years later, that the same team that developed the original (and probably only) Jaguar "killer app" would bring one of the most memorable and awesome FPS shooters since the genre was invented.

Fast forward 11 years, and you have 2010's Aliens vs. Predator for the PC, XBox 360 and PS3. So what's the verdict?

This review pertains solely to the 360 edition, as the PC edition has enough features to set it apart that it would warrant its own separate review. What it boils down to is a re-imagining of the franchise, bringing with it yet again more unique features and gameplay styles across the three separate playable species. Harkening back to its 1999 predecessor and drawing far less inspiration from the 2002 sequel, AvP is an ultra-violent and medium-paced FPS that combines corridor/wide area shooting battles, stealth and assassination techniques. Each species experiences the same story from their own perspective, with each campaign being continuous and not an "alternate outcome". Players piece together the story by playing through the 3 separate campaigns, particularly in the Marine campaign wherein the player learns the most about Weyland-Yutani director Karl Bishop Weyland's goal of unleashing the potential of an ancient Predator temple that was discovered buried deep within a Predator ancestral world, along with utilizing a new breed of controlled Alien.

Each scenario offers up a different play style that may not be accommodating to all players, as the three species are different enough that it requires some practice. Thankfully, each campaign begins with a tutorial mission (except the Marine mission, you simply learn as you go throughout the first mission). It is in the first two missions of the Alien and Predator campaigns that the player will learn the abilities of both species, as well as how to perform executions...ultra-gruesome instant-kill maneuvers that are vicious enough to possibly disturb some players. Once the tutorial ends, the player uses said abilities in a short stint of combat training as part of the plot, and then the actual campaign begins.

The Alien campaign is entirely stealth based...a true expert Alien player can get through most Alien missions without being detected, except for situations that call for direct combat. The stealth-based gameplay may seem slow-paced, as there is much navigational challenges, but the blinding speed of the alien and the sheer brutality of its instant kills make for an exciting experience.

The Predator campaign consists of stealth, maneuverability and occasionally situations with heavy fighting. Like the Alien, the Predator will rely heavily on stealth and ambush tactics (aided by his ability to Cloak and jump great distances), utilizing ghastly execution moves and sophisticated weaponry capable of widespread havoc with the occasional forced firefight.

The Marine campaign is your standard corridor/open area FPS with extra challenge thrown in...Aliens take a LOT of shots to bring down, and all it takes is one screw up to end your mission. It stands out as being the most frightening campaign, since you lack the superhuman abilities of your extraterrestrial enemies and spend a lot of time wandering dimly lit corridors with very little ammo...or none at all.

This game has seen its fair share of criticism, and I understand why. As a HUGE fan of the franchises (I shun the AvP movies however) it was an absolute thrill to play again as my favorite iconic movie monsters. The gameplay has evolved tremendously since the old 1999 predecessor and the game engine is smooth and sweet. However, many ugly problems rear their head early on in the game, but lets break it down:

The Good:

This game is as close to experiencing the species as you will get. Everything about the Predator and Alien is represented faithfully. There is a coherent story attached to the game that, once you play through all 3 campaigns, comes together rather nicely. The graphics are outstanding, and the level of detail is truly amazing. The grace of leaping through trees as the Predator and the primal feeling of stalking prey as the Alien are both rewarding gameplay experiences. The violence is unlike anything I have ever seen, and frankly the execution maneuvers are among the most gruesome video game deaths I have ever borne witness to. How this game got past certain censors is amazing. The marine experience is difficult but rewarding for the sheer terror it invokes. Overall, the single player campaign is a fun, if short, experience.

The Bad:

What you've heard about the control is true...it's pretty awful. While I didn't experience vertigo as many endlessly complained about, I found that the controls for the Alien's wall crawling abilities were terrible. The Alien would get stuck on objects, endless spinning in circles when all you want to do is dismount. Sometimes it would even mount a wall you don't want it to. Predator controls are sensible but confusing in a fast paced fight, and frankly the difficulty and species balance is way off. Marines have superior firepower but the cruddy targeting system (even on the smartgun) results in countless needless deaths, ESPECIALLY in multiplayer. And that's where the game gets...

The Ugly:

Multiplayer is a mess. On the 360, finding a game can take over ten minutes. There are no dedicated servers, and there is tremendous lag at times. What is worse, the game does not revert to a new host if the host player leaves...it simply ends the match. There goes your hard earned points and your progression towards new skins for your characters. It is plagued with untalented and cheap players who rely on Predator instant kill weapons such as the disc and shoulder cannon. These spammers make the game a chore to play, and it quickly loses its fun. From what I can gather there are only two multiplayer modes: Predator Instant Kill Avoidance or Marine vs. Alien. Apparently they have tried to patch this but these no-talent spammers always find an instant kill weapon to abuse. The executions are also extremely frustrating, taking you out of anything you are doing, even jumping in mid-air. They can sometimes become hysterical, as a chain of 5 or 6 players will all instant kill one another in sequence.

Furthermore, the lack of support this game has received is unbelievable. No Dedicated Servers or patch updates...multiplayer is a mess, and finding a match 8 months into this game's lifespan is now impossible as players have become frustrated with the flaws and moved on to other games. Let's not even get started on the atrocious DLC. $8 FOR TWO $*(#ING MAPS THAT NO ONE PLAYS?!

Also, the single player campaign draws influence from the AvP movies...I think I just threw up in my mouth.

Overall:

Great but short single player experience. Fun but seriously flawed multiplayer that gets old quick. Poor support. Overpriced and useless DLC.

Franchise fans: Definitely pick it up

Genre fans: Worth a rent

Casual gamers: Barely worth a rent

Hardcore gamers/FPS gurus: Completely Avoid

Graphics: 5/5

Control: 2.5/5

Fun Factor: 3/5

Multiplayer/Online: 1/5

DLC/Patch Support: ZERO

If you want a great AvP experience, go with the PC version. I regret taking the 360 over the PC version, which I did only because I had 8 friends who promised they'd play. They all got sick of it in less than a week. Sad but true.

Honest reviews on Aliens vs Predator - Xbox 360

The Aliens vs. Predator franchise dates back a good twenty years, and has sparked a host of movies and games to cash in on the success of the survival horror series. Most recently, that was 2007's Aliens vs. Predator: Requiem for the PSP. Now in 2010 we get the launch of Aliens vs. Predator for next gen consoles and PC. Developed by Rebellion and published by SEGA there is a considerable force behind the development of the title. Given as how SEGA hasn't exactly been riding a wave of quality titles in recent times, it was interesting to see how Aliens vs. Predator played out.

The title focuses on the epic battles between the Aliens, the Predators, and the Colonial Marines who are being torn apart somewhere in the middle. The real attraction in the title is that the game can be played from the perspective of any of these three races, each playing entirely differently to the next.

The Aliens are fast and effective at close range. They use the darkness and their physical capabilities to gain the upper hand. They can cling to walls and run along ceilings, and whip enemies feet out from under them using their tails. Darkness is their friend, and they can use it very effectively to gain an edge. Aliens have heightened senses and can smell the scent of enemies, including predators. The aliens are by far the most fun to play, though the way the controls and camera is implemented, movement quickly becomes disorientating and confusing. However, their speed and attacks make them very entertaining for the most part.

The predators are more of a stealth unit. They are best suited to attacking from above, leaping easily from tree to tree, and using cloaking to come at enemies from behind. The predators can cast energy attacks at their enemies as well from a distance, which work somewhat like heat seeking missiles but are fun and easy to power up in the heat of combat. They are weak against the marines' heavy weapons, and their cloaking is ineffective against aliens, so playing the predator means you always have to have your wits about you. Speaking of wits, as a predator you can change your vision to include thermal scanning, allowing you to easily detect humans. Being able to use different forms of vision is a nice addition, and as the predator class isn't altogether that tough you will need all the help you can get. The predator class was probably my least favourite as it simply doesn't feel well implemented at all.

The humans, as can be expected, are the same as humans from any other FPS. They have firepower but lack virtually any other assistance other than a torch and a handful of flares. Playing as the marines is entertaining at times, but the controls across all the different classes are not particularly well structured, making it a challenge at best. Shooting can be so frustrating: at times that you'll plug more bullets into the ceiling and the floor than into the alien standing right in front of you.

The point of the various classes is to tie the storyline together giving you insight into the different sides in the conflict, and this works quite well. However it seems that by branching off in three directions neither of these has received the time and polish that would have been required to create a truly great game. While all the campaigns start off strong they give way to relatively dull levels and some frustrating design choices that leave players wondering if it couldn't have been done better. In next-gen gaming, invisible walls should be a thing of the past, but they're not as the game forcefully pushes you toward the next checkpoint. The AI is also somewhat frustrating as enemies generally fail to abide by any logical rules, often backing straight towards you making it feel like meals on wheels more than anything, particularly when playing aliens or predators.

Graphically Aliens vs. Predator is no great delight. The levels at times look good enough, and the alien character models look fantastic, but the human models on the other hand look downright hideous, so hideous in fact that I thought I was playing Halo again. A highlight however are the fantastic trophy scenes when you decapitate an enemy to pocket the skull. These are gruesome and fun to execute as they vary just enough to not become overly dull too quickly. The audio for the title is also a real highlight. The marine campaign is rather shocking at times, as you hear aliens scuttling through vents above you, frightening the bejesus out of you. This really adds to the atmospherics in some of the darker more brooding levels, feeling something like F.E.A.R. at times.

The online mode surely must be the highlight. A range of game modes are available mixing the three sides against each other. Deathmatch, Team Deathmatch, Infestation, and Predator Hunt which are a bit like Zombie in Halo where one player has to infect the others, and finally a Survivor mode for endless waves of enemies to battle in co-op. Though the controls are still a hassle the advantage surely is that all players are facing the same struggles. Unfortunately though the player base online appears so low its virtually unplayable. So if you plan on picking up Aliens vs. Predator ensure you've got a healthy friends list to team up with online, then there is certainly a lot of fun to be had.

Overall Aliens vs. Predator falls well short of the mark. The games controls are too confusing and the environments frustrating. Sometimes character movement appears inconsistent and this makes flitting from wall to ceiling difficult at times when playing the alien. The graphics are stunning in parts, but below average in others again reflecting the fact that the developers split their efforts across three campaigns, rather than focusing on one and doing it well.

Aliens vs. Predator certainly has much in common with the movies, but possibly isn't quite the answer that fans of the series were wanting in the way of video game fulfilment. Its a good effort no doubt, but its not quite there yet. Maybe the next iteration.

There was a time when an Aliens VS Predator video game meant for a good, horrifying time. This new take on the franchise once again finds three different campaigns to choose from: the Alien, the Predator, and the Marine. While each campaign starts out spectacularly, eventually boredom will rear its ugly head. This is due to the poor level design and disappointing controls, which often come off as quite stiff. Not to mention that what begins as being a quite scary experience in each of the three campaigns, de-evolves into boring tedium. What saves Aliens VS Predator from being a complete clunker however is that the game is filled with some wonderfully violent moments, as well as some nicely designed character models and some great multiplayer modes. Other than all that though, there really isn't enough here to warrant Aliens VS Predator as being as worthwhile as it could have been, which is a crying shame considering the potential here for something special was quite high. It's still worth checking out though, just don't go in expecting any of the past glories that came with the franchise in the past.

If you've never played a Crazi Taxi game, you've really missed out. If you have, you know how much fun they are. Well, if u liked either of the first two, I can promise u that you'll like this one. It packs it all in. Here goes:

One thing you'll notice about this game is that the controls are just like previous Crazy Taxi games (right trigger go, left trigger stop). You stop in a customer's circle, he hops in and you take him to his destination. Speedy, nice tip. Normal, good tip. Slow, bad tip. You can pick any of 12 Taxi drivers, and drive your Taxi in any of 3 locations. Either one: the coast (from the first game), two: The Big Apple (second game), and third: the new Glitter Oasis. Make as much money as possible, and you'll get a license (either A,B,C,D,E, and or F). Drive for 3 minutes, 5 minutes, and 10 minutes. That's the game, now on to why it's so awsome.

Graphics: They're incredible. You really feel like you driving through a city, with beautiful buildings, scenery, streets, and cars. Sharp people and convincing worlds will give you the full expierience only Xbox can offer. There are hundreds of different people to pick up, and you'll notice your not picking up 3 people again and again during the run. I never see the same person in a run. It's weird. It's almost like really being a Taxi driver in New York City.

So, if you have a craving for more of the same great Crazy Taxi, with old and new people, envirements, and outstanding graphics, Crazy Taxi 3 is for you. An Xbox exclusive, a must buy for all current (or future) Xbox owners. Excellent game Sega, now on to Crazy Taxi 4! (*lol*)

1.Graphics: Really great, they are cartoony graphics sometimes but are really the best.

2.Sound: The sound effects are really cool, and the music, I LOVE, if u like punk bands like offspring and bad religion you'll like this, both bands are in the game plus some band called citizen bird...????.

3.Controls: The controls are the same as the last 2 games, i'd recommend the controller s or the racing wheel for this.

4.Gameplay:I love playing this game.IT has 1 level from each of the 1st games and same characters, I Played this game for hours.

Overall:Crazy Taxi 3 is crazy, i'd recommend buying it, if u never played crazy taxi,(any of them), then i'd recommend u rent it before purchasing. That's All.............Have fun Playing

Best Deals for Crazy Taxi 3 - Xbox

The original Crazy Taxi was such a fun game, that it stole hours away from my otherwise uninteresting life. This third installment, an exclusive for the Xbox, continues the same gameplay of picking up funky passengers, racing against time and dropping them off in one piece, hopefully.

Unfortunately, the graphics is also little improved, a shame considering the Xbox is capable of doing many times more than what the game offers. Sound is also at best mediocre. Controls are easy to learn and master, and the fun factor can be high for some audience -and definitely more fun than the copycat "Simpsons Road Rage".

You may want to rent this title before buying it. I enjoyed the demo from Official Xbox Magazine enough to rent it from Blockbuster, but I'm definitely not buying it for my permanent library.

Honest reviews on Crazy Taxi 3 - Xbox

Initially a hit arcade game, then a Dreamcast exclusive, Crazy Taxi has been one of Sega's most popular new franchises, a reason to buy a DC in and of itself. Once Sega began spreading its talents to other consoles, CT was one of the first games to be exported, to both PlayStation 2 and GameCube ... but not XBox. Instead, Sega and Hitmaker have brought an all-new version of the game exclusively to Microsoft's big black console. It retains everything that made the original (and its DC-only sequel Crazy Taxi 2) great, while bringing with it new features and, unfortunately, a couple of new flaws.

If you've been living incommunicado lately (say, the last 2 1/2 years), the game casts you as a taxi driver in a big city, in this case Glitter Oasis (an homage to Las Vegas). You get to choose one of four personas, each with uniquely-styled cabs (the choice of cabbie doesn't really affect gameplay enough, so just choose one you like). Your job is to pick up passengers and transport them to their destinations within a certain time, using any means necessary.

Potential fares are highlighted by a colored dollar sign over a similarly-colored pick-up zone. Red symbols denote short-distance (i.e., cheap) fares, with yellow, green and blue symbols pointing the way to more challenging (and more rewarding) fares. An arrow at the top of the screen directs you towards your destination, a large highlighted area where you stop and drop-off your passenger.

If you make things "interesting" along the way, by executing high-speed drifts, near misses or gravity-defying jumps, your passenger will tip you more and more. Succeed, and you get the fare plus the tips, along with bonus time to pick up other riders ... fail, and the passenger stiffs you and hops out of the cab, even if the destination is in sight.

Fans who missed out on CT 2 will notice a new feature ... the ability to pick up multiple passengers. These riders are highlighted by a number instead of a dollar sign. The stakes get really high here, since (a) your travel time--and potential fare--is much higher and (b) tips are multiplied by the number of passengers you have. However, this is an all-or-nothing proposition ... if even one of the group doesn't make their destination in time, you lose the *ENTIRE* fare.

CT 3 is one of the most replay-loaded games released in a long time. Crazy X brings you several new mini-games to play and unlock, along with a chance to improve your skills. Best of all, you get West Coast and Small Apple, the arcade maps (modeled after San Francisco and New York, respectively) from both Crazy Taxi and Crazy Taxi 2, along with their own unique cabbies!

As cool as all this sounds, it's not without its flaws, minor as they are. The game can be slow-loading at times, although it is faster than the demo disc some of you may have seen. While graphically gorgeous, it's not significantly better than even the Dreamcast versions of CT and CT 2. In fact, there are points of some limited slowdown; however, the screen has to be quite busy for this to occur, and when it does occur it isn't for very long (a couple of seconds).

The in-game music is appropriately fast-paced and very hard-rock oriented, from arists like The Offspring, Bad Religion and Tommy Lee. It retains tracks from both previous games, and even re-uses sound samples. Hardly original, but it don't take that much away from the game. (Parents please note: Some of the music tracks have some brief adult language, hence the game's T rating.)

If you're a fan of CT and CT 2, you really can't go wrong with CT 3, especially since you get to re-live those games once again. If this will be your first foray into the world of Crazy Taxi, rest assured that the positives of the game far outweigh the negatives. Now get out there and make some crazy money!

Crazy Taxi 3 is a blast to play, as it offers a brand new city and new characters to play around with; however, the greatest strength of this game is the fact that it includes both Crazy Taxi 1 and Crazy Taxi 2. The graphics are also touched up from their original Dreamcast releases. This game is one of the Xbox's absolute best. If you're a Crazy Taxi fan, this is the best purchase you can make since you're getting a ton of bang out of your gaming buck with Crazy Taxi 1 and Crazy Taxi 2 with enhanced visuals, the original soundtracks (unlike recent versions), in addition to Crazy Taxi 3 exclusively released on the Xbox.

Board games are one of the greatest family group activities of modern times. Getting the board out, finding the pieces, rembering all the rules, deciding who sits where and goes when, and finally to end up with someone quiting over a dice roll that slid off the board. Yup good times!! Just think after all that fun you get to throw most of the pieces back in the box and shove it in the corner of the closet, for another 6 months. OR YOU COULD JUST BUY FAMILY GAME NIGHT FOR 360!! Thank goodness someone from EA finally figured out buying these games seperately from Xbox live at $10 a piece was ridiculous. With Black friday, and a slow economy you should be able to pick up this game for around $20, and that is part of the reason why I rated this game so high. Not only can you play the classic games with all the rules intact and "a rule/move" assist from the game, but you can play the wildcard variations as well. Again the game shows you what moves are allowed (or not) based on the game mode your playing so there is no cheating. You can play local or over Xbox Live and your Xbox live Avatars become your representatives in the game. The number of people that can play is based on the game your playing, and there is no split screen everyone plays the same board. My wife and Kids actually play this game without me (4 players max) so you know it must be good if my wife is picking up an Xbox controller. Here is the official list/ write up.

Join your host Mr. Potato Head as you play your favorite Hasbro games including CONNECT FOUR, SCRABBLE, BATTLESHIP, YAHTZEE, BOGGLE, as well as exciting new versions created for Xbox LIVE® Arcade in Hasbro Family Game Night.

The only thing that could make this game any better is more addon games and lower Xbox live prices. I understand the game developers need to make money, so they should add more games to the title via Xbox live but limit the price to $5 a game. The only game they should make 800 points or 10 bucks is monopoly and they should totally rework that failed stand alone version to play as the current games on Family Game night works now.

Pros: Should be able to get it for $20, Games are fun and everyone in the family can play, all the other stuff I wrote earlier.

Cons: Family playing 360 takes up all your valuable first person shooter time, forcing you to watch reality TV.

This is an awesome two player game. Me and my wife have spent hours on this. The re-playability is very high. Battleship is probably our favorite, but they are all fun (Boggle, Connect 4, Sorry Sliders, Sorry, Scrabble, and Yahtzee). We have played them all quite a bit. I do like how you can play different styles of the game. It mixes it up a little bit which is good. I paid $20 for it and it was worth every penny. This game would be great for kids 6+ as well. My five year old daughter is still a little bit too young to play it, but in another year or so I'm sure she could play a couple of the games on it.

I bought this game as a Christmas present for my wife. She was always telling me that I got to spend all the time on the Xbox and she would like a game that she could play too. Well, this is what I found and it turned out to be a winner. She even enjoys playing with folks when we have a dinner party or when her parents were, she introduced them to this game. My only complaint is how few games come as part of this game. I wish there was a way to add more to it. As far as I can tell. there is no way to supplement the included games. Oh well. There's plenty to keep her occupied for quite some time and for $20.00, I'm not upset.

This game is about what I expected. You can play the original games and newer versions of them. No game boards, no lost pieces, no storage problems. I played it with my nephew and we both had fun. I would expect you to enjoy it also.

I love the Wipeout game show, so when last week's episode promised a Wii edition, my husband and I couldn't wait to get it. After all, what could be better than the combination of Wipeout's challenges and the Wii's physical controls?

Unfortunately, this game uses almost none of the Wii's controls. You press A to jump, B to crouch, and you use the nunchuk joystick to run. When you halfway fall on an obstacle, you can shake the controller to get up faster, and when it's not your turn, you point and aim to shoot balls at the other players. That's the controls. There's no support for the balance board, but I wasn't expecting any based on the box. What I was expecting was some kind of gesture use, such as shaking the controllers to swim or something.

There's two modes of gameplay: show mode and challenge mode. In either mode, you're doing some number of Wipeout challenges, but show mode follows the same structure as the show whereas challenge mode has you singly competing against a clock or goal. Show mode is the only multi-player mode. Each player gets three attempts at each obstacle. Your first successful attempt is your score. If you wipeout, you get another attempt. But here's the crappy part: if you wipeout all three times, it just assigns you a default max value. So, for the big balls, it's pretty likely that everyone will just get the default max value in show mode (though it is possible to beat them). That kind of sucks the fun out of it. It would have been so much better to have you wipeout and then have to do some kind of swimming motion or running motion to get to the end of the obstacle, with the clock running. Also, sometimes you just can't tell what you did wrong. Your character seems to slow down for no reason or jumps go long or short for no reason. Some obstacles seem challenging for the wrong reasons, and others, that are very challenging on the show, are very easy on the game. The sweeper arm is a great example. My husband and I found that we could both jump/crouch for the sweeper arm way too long to be fun. Eventually, one of us just gets bored and jumps off. The scary-go-round is particularly dull, too.

One problem unique to challenge mode is that the game does not make it clear whether you're on track for the goal, and it makes you keep playing even when you have failed. For example, the easy goal on the wipeout zone is 2:15 and less than 3 wipeouts. It does not track your wipeouts on screen at all, so you just have to keep your own count. Your time is somewhat arbitrary, but at least you can see it while you're running the course. But most frustrating is when you've already wiped out 3 times, but the game just has you keep going as if you have some hope of completing it.

Who cares about the score on Wipeout, though, right? The fun is the wipeouts! Well, on this game, when you wipeout, your character just goes kind of ragdoll and flops around, which can be hilarious like the show. The replay graphics are really poor. Sometimes they don't match what you saw on the screen, too, especially if an obstacle in motion is involved. The game has definite clipping issues. Sometimes you go through parts of the obstacles or seem to land okay but then your character wipes out anyways. But, there are some funny wipeouts at least, and you can skip the replays when the wipeouts aren't as funny.

Random thoughts:

* I do appreciate that they have the actual hosts' voices.

* I wish they had enabled you to play with your Miis, though it's possible that's an unlockable feature that we just haven't seen yet.

* We have definitely found ourselves laughing at some of the wipeouts. Seeing Ballsy dance during the "loading" screen was enough to bring a little joy to our hearts.

* So far, Henson doesn't say his famous closing line, so that's a bit of a disappointment.

Overall, this seems like a great weekend rental game. If you can get it cheap or discounted, and you're a fan of the show, it's worth it. I would not pay full price for it, and I would not recommend it for anyone who isn't into the show. It just feels like it could have been so much better with just the tiniest amount of work on gameplay.

Our 5-year old son is OBSESSED with this show, so we promised the game to him when it came out. Happy to report he loves the game as much as the show. Would've liked it if it had somehow incorporated the Wii Balance Board as an optional item, but perhaps that would have increased the price, which WE were quite happy with ($29.95), considering most new Wii games are in the $39-49 price range.

It's nice that you have the option of 'interacting' with the other contestants, or skipping thru their turns entirely to speed things along. Also fun that the Johns and Jill become playable characters as well. Experienced gamers young & old may tire of this game quickly, but it's perfect for casual gaming families like ours, especially those with kids who love this show.

Best Deals for WipeOut: The Game

I am writing this review at the urging of my 9 and 11 year old children who have played this game for three days straight (a rare feat for any game we have bought). I will concede that has been 95 degrees for 12 days straight here and playing outside has been a little more daunting but they absolutely love this game. The graphics actually seem pretty good. The commentary is definitely not as witty as the TV show but as uncomfortable as it always has been to hear my kids cackling about the "big balls" segment the game pushes the envelope with the "dirty balls" challenge. I try and keep focused on how much laughter the game is providing with them. Also the cutaways to the announcers are terrible in that the voice sync is not even close, not sure why they wasted the space trying.

After the second and third day they have started moving up in difficulty level but they are still trying to unlock the extra characters and features and they have convinced their mother to join in and her laughter is as much or more than theirs. For the price this game has been a winner in this household as most games do not make it past the first day. It should be quite entertaining for the next get together with friends too.

Only down side is for me has been that whistling in the background music that gets old for me (the tune gets stuck in your head for hours) especially when they have been playing for a couple of hours straight.

As to the one star review, we have not had any freezes but I have a noticed a problem with some graphics when players are knocked off in the water scenes. We had not played our Wii in a few weeks and this game did install an update upon start-up. The first try was unsuccessful and we had to restart the Wii but I attribute that to both kids were pressing buttons during that process and once we ran it for the second time, everything has been fine.

Honest reviews on WipeOut: The Game

After reading the reviews of this, I wasn't expecting anything spectacular. Boy was I in for a surprise. The game is a lot of fun. M 6 year old loves the show, and is able to play the game without problems. There are plenty of unlocks and changes available to keep him interested after the initial newness wore off of the game.
