i was skeptical about buying this due to my disappointment in 2011, but let me tell you, this game is great! eutechnyx definitely showed that they can make a great game. the racing experience is near perfect, there are multiple difficulty settings (and let me tell you, hard is ACTUALLY HARD and their new mode 'champion' feels like youre actually out there on the track, it is tough!) the damage model was completely reworked and greatly improved also. there are just so many little details that make this game a great experience. definitely get this one.

If all you intend to do with this game is run a 16 lap race at Daytona after work to wind down, you'll probably like this game. The graphics are stellar and the sound is very well done (The low end another reviewer mentioned is only prevalent when the in-car cams are selected, probably to replicate the sound and feeling one would experience inside a stock car. If you have a subwoofer, it will get a workout during this game), and in short bursts the gameplay is enjoyable. The tracks are perfectly recreated, and unlike the other nascar game most of the paint schemes for the drivers are already unlocked for you.

The challenge mode is be far one of the unexpected surprises of this game. Similar to Madden games of the past, the game comes pre-loaded with 'historic' moments that you can race and try to alter the outcome. Supposedly it's based on actual telemetry from the races which adds to the enjoyment of this mode thoroughly. It makes you feel as if you are really in that situation in real life. And many of these challenges are hard! I didnt think I would enjoy this mode as much as I do, but for those times when I can only play for short sessions, this is becoming my default choice for some quick racing action.

The racing is as hard or easy as you want it to be, although for my tastes it always seems to be a bit too easy or a bit hard...seems like they needed one more setting in between. Also, tandem racing at Talledega and Daytona seems very realistic, and is very challenging. I wont get into the tandem drafting racing debate at restrictor tracks, but suffice it to say I prefer racing the shorter tracks on this game :) The radar system makes it easy to locate your drafting partner...which i mostly prefer in my rear view mirror, thank you!

Play for any extended period of time though, you are bound to notice some glitches as others have mentioned. First, the cautions are still wickedly inconsistent. One of the annoyances of the last game was that if you wrecked another car, a caution would immediately come out. Yet, if someone steamrolled over you into the wall scattering parts everywhere, the race went on, even if you limped along the track at 35 mpg. Now instead of the caution 'never' coming it, it comes out 'sometimes'...but not nearly often enough.

On one very amusing (yet very annoying) instance racing at Charlotte, I was pushed from behind, careened off the wall (destroying the front end) and then barreled across the grass onto pit-row...at 140 mph. I was able to regain control, cruise down pit row, speed UP while ON pit row back up to 170 mph and rejoin the tail of the field. All under green. Since the race was already wrecked at that point on the next few laps I cut across the grass onto pit row at full speed. No cautions or black flags. Which is...i dont know, stupid?

The AI reminds me alot of Ridge Racer, i.e. the other cars seem to ride the rails on a predetermined line and barely deviate or react to your movements. Be prepared to wreck alot (again, see complaint #1 regarding cautions). Not giving up your position is one thing, its another to be outpacing the lap times of the cars ahead of you, and they still are completely oblivious. In real nascar racing, a slower car will often make way for the faster car (well, except for Tony Stewart).

Online play, I have not tried but based on other reviews I dont think I want to.

The biggest beef with the game though, is still no Nationwide or Camping World Truck Series which is an absolute crime considering the price tag of this game. At the very least, there is no reason not to add the Nationwide series since many of the tracks are shared between both series. All they had to do was add the additional paint schemes and the couple extra tracks like Road America that are only run in the NNS. Hopefully by the time Daytona rolls around in a few months they will add those series, but I wont hold out any hope.

Which leads to the last beef with the game. Why release at the END of the season? The Daytona 500 is the superbowl of racing...also in the beginning of the season many of the drivers, sponsors, and teams get shuffled around quite a bit. Right around the time this game was released it was already dated, Kurt Busch moved over to Furniture Row racing in the 78, Kenseth announced his departure to Joe Gibbs, and Logano announced the move to Penske. I would prefer to have the game released at the beginning of the year so i can play along with it all year, as opposed to having the 'new' game be dated by the time nascar's biggest event rolls around. But im sure the week of the 500 there will be a nice (20 dollar) add on pack available.

And come on, put the beer logos in the game already, will ya? I would think Miller Lite should receive some sort of a bone tossed their way after sponsoring the 2012 Champion and all instead of having just "Brad" on the hood. Just sayin.

So its a mixed bag. There's enough there to make it entertaining, but it isnt worth the full price (I traded in 2011 for this). It seems the series is heading in the right direction but it still doesnt feel 100% authentic yet. (Hint: Give DW a buzz for some in-game voice work, will ya?) But if you like NASCAR, this is pretty much your only choice. But its alot like the aforementioned Miller Lite. It tastes great, but its less filling.

I was a PC sim racer for about 10 years and just got burned out on GPL, Nascar 2003, Crammond's F1 games, r factor, etc etc and just stopped playing about 5 years ago. Since then I've played a few of the Nascar releases on 360 and also the F1 releases in 2010 and 2011. The F1 game just took too freaking long to get to a race with the ridiculous trailer cut scenes. The Nascar games I played were just not drivable and just did not feel right. Over the last several months I have been following the pre-release of Inside Line and actually got quite excited about it and picked it up over the weekend. Some things are really well done but it needs work:

*The graphics with HDMI 1080 look fantastic. Everyone who walked into the room commented on how great it looked. Really well done folks. Sound not bad, for some reason I am not getting a lot of low end though.

*The load times are some of the best I have ever experienced and great framerates.

*Some of the on track action gave me the same feeling I used to get with GPL and F1 Championship Season, like I was really challenged.

*But OMG, there are some epic fails with the AI. At some tracks they make it almost impossible to race so I just drop back and let things get sorted out. Random stops, crazy lines, weird pit entrances, turbo race starts at a couple of tracks and on and on.

*The setup saves are somewhat confusing, half the time I do not know what setup I am going out in.

*Some bizarre yellow flag bugs or rules that don't really mimic Nascar racing at all. I can't even explain it to you, you had to be there for some of my WTF moments!

*Why can't I reduce the number of racers? Some of the greatest races I have ever had racing off line in other games were 30-40% runs vs. 10-15 drivers at highest skill. This game, at least from my 3 days of playing, makes you play with all 43. Given the AI problems that spells restart after restart after restart.

I don't race online so I can't comment but looks like they have a lot of problems. While I am obviously not real happy with the AI issues overall I really like the game. I think it was a tactical mistake to leave the obvious AI and online issues BOTH not fixed. You end up not making the off line sim and casual crowd happy or the online racers happy. Lose/lose. There is no one on this planet that could spend several hours with this game and not notice the glaring AI problems. But there is enough here to warrant your playing time, not so sure about $60 though until it is patched.

My copy of Nascar Inside Line arrived on time and well packaged which is important to me when purchasing exspensive games. This game is not perfect but is a HUGE step up from Nascar 2011 with the deeper career mode and well developed versions of the All Star race and even the entire speed weeks event at Daytona. Graphics and sound also are a touch better and a download with the new Gen-6 cars is now available as well.

Bought this to keep up with my kids when we play COD, I needed to level the playing field! Well, not just for that reason. We bought this when they started bringing their friends over to play so that everyone could play together. My kids are always bugging me to play COD with them when their friends aren't around, and they always destroy me. My son suggested to use the "mod" and they will use normal controllers. They still always beat me, but at least I don't lose AS badly. They seem to enjoy the more difficult competition when I'm using the "mod". This controller seems to have a better feel to it than their other normal controller as well, not sure what it could be but it definitely feels like it is built better.

Works as described although at times switching between modes can lose connection to the xbox. Also some of the seams are different sizes than others so it appears as if the colored pieces were put in crooked. While these dont really affect the use of the controller, they still bug me a tad.

the mod works, quality is sub par to MS. Returned first one due to being assembled off center which made it uncomfortable to hold. Replacement was received a couple weeks later and had a better alignment but not near 100%, also other issues. i.e. Thumb sticks are too big and get stuck in any particular direction you press them. D-pad isn't as responsive as it should be. The first one very well could have had the same issues, I didnt use it before it was sent back. Unfortunately I wasn't able to return the second one due to personal issues and now I just have a very expensive xbox controller paper-weight. Only reason I gave two stars was because the communication was very good from the seller and I probably could have gotten a refund or another replacement had I had the opportunity. Still, not something I would recommend.

This controller is so cool, my old one broke and I'm glad I bought this one. I play Call of Duty a lot so the mod really helps. The FAL is like a machine gun with the mod on, it was easy to use and came with instructions, and it even came in this cool packaging that the company made, it was in packaging just like a normal controller you buy at the store is in. Professional and great value.

Atomic Bomberman - PC Reviews

I ordered a shiny new case for the game about 3 months ago, and it was about 12 bucks. Not bad for a mint condition disc! However, the only bad thing about it was the case's center that snaps the disc in place broke. Not to worry though, the CD is snug into a new casing, while the old "display" case is intact, but with a completely broken center snapping piece, cause I broke the rest of it. >P

Overall, I've been waiting for this game for a REALLY long time, and I'd recommend it to anyone who wants a taste of retro gaming, instead of the usual next-gen stuff, but that's just my opinion anyway. The full installer, which is recommended if you want most of the awesome gameplay, even music, is only about 560MB's of space, but you'd still need 600MB give or take, it's really not that much compared to the heightened memory nowadays.

Prompt shipment was a plus as well, but I forgot the seller's username. Oh well.

Anyway, this is DarkMike signing out. See ya.

Unfortunately the game I recieved was defective. I tried loading it on 1 Windows XP computer 32 bit and 2 different Windows 7 machines 64 bit. They wouldn't fully set-up. So I returned it as defective. It looks like a great game, as I have every other Bomberman game ever released for the various gaming systems. If you can get a good one try it.

Best Deals for Atomic Bomberman - PC

Bomberman's basic gameplay is massively addicting. Not only do you get to blow up walls (Or other structures representing walls), but you can also gather up various kinds of power-ups that make things even more fun (Glove lets you pick up bombs, Fire makes the bomb's explosion, the Skull does a surprise effect that'll either help you or make you suffer in play, etc).

So there's quite a bit of reasoning as to why Bomberman is striking PCs. I'm pretty sure everyone had a Windows computer in his/her household, so why not make Bomberman that accessible to everyone? Interplay saw this, and as they managed to obtain Hudson's approval, they gave us this.

Atomic Bomberman is a pretty spruced up offering in the franchise. The graphics are incredible and eye-popping, the music is catchy and techno-y (However, sadly, there's no music during play), and the atmosphere in general is just pretty awesome. With this new look, you'd think that there would be changes in the gameplay right? Fortunately, there isn't. After all, if it ain't broke, don't fix it. What I think is really impressive is that the game supports online play with up to a whopping TEN people! I'm not exactly sure how to set it all up, considering I own a Windows 7 laptop, but I bet the result is more than worth it!

Also, it turns out that the game is pretty customizable. You could make your own Bomberman levels, graphics, and even change the messages! This is difficult for the younger audience to do, since it's all supposed to be done via Text documents and possibly other stuff, but it's still a pretty cool feature for those that can figure it all out.

If there's anything I am kinda concerned about, it's the voice acting. It's not BAD, but it feels weird at times. In fact, despite the game rated K-A for Kids-to-Adults (The early E for Everyone rating), Interplay snuck in some voice clips that are rather aimed at teens and beyond ("You blow!" "Eat my dust and lick my >BLEEP

Ecco The Dolphin: Defender of the Future
Customer Ratings: 4.5 stars

Let's get one thing straight: This is easily the most realistic dolphin simulator on the Dreamcast today.

The graphics are, in a word, outstanding. When I got my first look at the undersea world (at the game's option screen, no less), my mouth was agape. Sunlight rippled on the colorful ocean rocks, jellyfish bobbed slowly in the gentle tide and bubbles lazily floated to the surface. It truly was beautiful. It's clear that the good folks at Sega did their research when it came to creating this undersea domain.

The animal models themselves are also well-done. Ecco looks and swims just like a real dolphin. Add countless sharks, fish, jellyfish, turtles and other undersea life and you have an entire ocean at your fingertips.

Enough rambling about the graphics, there's a game to play.

To begin with, I don't really care for the story. Sometime in the future, humans and dolphins work together to explore space. Some interstellar deity known as the Foe doesn't take kindly to that, and invades the Earth. Mankind, with its limitless intellegence and resources is forced to stand by while the dolphins take matters into their own hands. Er, flippers.

Naturally, you control Ecco in the 3-D undersea world. All of his moves from his 16-bit days are here. You can swim, swim really fast and sing songs. There are a few powerups, most of which let you swim even faster.

The controls are actually difficult to master. Getting Ecco to swim is easy, getting him to swim the right way (AWAY from the sharks) is harder. You'll die quite a bit.

Plus, the missions (several in each level) are rather vague. Generally, you'll enter a new area; a nearby crystal will give you a very general hint, and you're left to fend for yourself. You'll rescue other undersea life, battle currents, jellyfish and millions and millions of sharks. Have fun!

Seriously, a little more guidance would have been welcome. This is a huge game, and the levels are very large. Just figuring out where to go is the game's biggest challenge. Plus, once you get there, mind-numbing puzzles will plague you every step of the way.

Don't buy this game just because of its graphics. It's a very deep and involving game, and there's hours of fun available for people who have the time. The rest of us, however will just want to watch Ecco swim and jump in the calm waters of the opening level.

Playing the demo of Ecco the Doplhin: Defender of the Future at E3 in May is what convinced me to purchase a Dreamcast. It is the best game I have seen or played for the system, edging out Jet Grind Radio, a great game in its own right. The graphics are superb, play control is intuitive, and the environment is immersive yet beautiful. Playing this game, you feel like you are a dolphin swimming in crystal waters, avoiding sharks, and (though the demo was't complete so I don't know for sure) saving the world. Sega and developer Appaloosa both deserve praise for this game, one where the avatar is not a gun-toting bi-ped, but instead a sleek aquatic mammal. I love sports games, fighting games, RPGs, and action adventure titles, but for most new games in these genres, you get the feeling you've played it before. Not with Ecco. Bordering on revolutionary, Ecco delivers a gaming experience freshly different and totally enjoyable. Sega should also be proud of this game as it showcases how fluid and graphically stunning games on the Dreamcast can be. Ecco is a must buy for any Dreamcast owner. If you aren't one already, become one, and get this game when it comes out.

Best Deals for Ecco The Dolphin: Defender of the Future

The Ecco The Dolphin games for Sega's previous systems have always been a relaxed and relieving alternative to the droves of violent action/fighting games. Ecco The Dolphin: Defender Of The Future for Dreamcast carries over the theme and atmosphere of the past Ecco games, and injects the formula with smooth and realistic 3D evironments. This has to be one of the best looking console system games ever. Once you get over the hypnotizing graphics and sound however, you will find there are some problems with this game. The control is precise and responsive, but some levels are way too difficult, and offer little information to help the player complete the next objective. Unless you are a seasoned gamer, you will be overwhelmed to the point of boredom with the longs hours you must spend in order to finish Ecco. This is not one I would recommend for the kids...a lot of patience and skill are needed to play this game. If you are looking for a game with tons of depth that will pass the time however, you've certainly found it. Even if it makes you pull your hair out from frustration, Ecco: Defender Of The Future is a great title to have to showcase the graphical abilities of the Dreamcast, if nothing else.

Honest reviews on Ecco The Dolphin: Defender of the Future

ECCO : DOTF. Received my copy a few weeks ago. Have been playing it alot, here is what I think of this game ;D Boot up, nice classic "SEGA" image appears (no music). Followed by the Appoloosia Interactive Loga (no music). You cannot skip past these scenes. Finnally you are presented with a luscious title screen, With Ecco presented in the middle, truley awesome title screen. But there is still no music! I looked down at my VMU and saw it has said "LOADING" on it, with these bubbles. Looked back at the screen and music began to play, "PRESS START BUTTON" flashes on the screen. You can see why it took a few seconds to load, it was because the following menus are AWESOME! Hit with 3D underwater scene with menu text in the middle, nice sounds... "poP pOP PoP" and "Gulp", real water sounds. They are very nice menus.... The game is very high quality. So much time has been put into it. At the start of a new game, after you have enetered in your VM Save game name (2 Blocks VM Data), you begin. BLAH BLAH BLAH. The levels are hard to start with, controls seem to be apart of that problem, I have only just really got the hang of it. When I first tried to move Ecco, I went all over the place! Remember, he can turn upside down, all around, knocks you off sometimes, like the small caves... There is always a task to complete in the levels. The levels are really good. The VM uses 6 blocks, for ECCO settings and an additional 2 blocks for each Save file.

Graphics are very high quality. Really pumping graphics in this game. The sound is also very good. Music is relaxing and changes often to suit the scene. There are two 2D levels in the game, they are like bonus levels, They look so cool! Although they are the classic 2D side on view, they have added a 3D 128bit touch to them, and they are so much fun ;D What really makes this a classic game, is the emotional story line. I am very impressed, although I havnt completed the game (which is massive) , I find the story is one of the best things you need in a game, Ecco has it. Its very touching. I hope you have found this review helpful. Dont turn down this game, its true quality.

When Ecco the Dolphin: Defender of the Future was first released for the Dreamcast, it's mouth watering 3-D graphics and incredibly realistic environments were unlike anything else seen on the system to date, and even today with the Dreamcast sleeping with the fishes, Ecco is still one of the top best looking games for the ill-fated system. Just as it's 16-bit incarnations provided for the Genesis years before, this 128-bit update offers the aforemented incredible graphics and very challenging gameplay. As I said before, the graphics are incredibly lifelike and Ecco and all his on-screen fellows move very fluidly and it will be hard not to take your eyes off the screen. Unfortuneately, the same steep learning curve has been inherited here as well. It is very easy to get completely lost and stuck in the game and not know where to go or what to do next. All in all, this isn't a game for novice gamers, but for those who have played Ecco games of the past and look for challenging and lengthy gameplay will have plenty to look forward to here.

RalliSport Challenge 2 Review

RalliSport Challenge 2
Customer Ratings: 4.5 stars
Buy Now
While I am not a racing purist, I enjoyed both Project Gotham games and enjoy playing all arcade racing games on my Xbox and PS2. In RalliSport Challenge 2, I've completed Amateur, Pro and Champion levels with more than 100 races in the game finished.

First off, you should know that this is a racing simulator, not an arcade-style racer, but even given that, DICE has still worked to make the game enjoyable for all skill levels. Unlockables like new cars and tracks for example, are awarded just by playing the game -you do not have to finish in first place to get them. This alone, makes the game far more enjoyable. Also, simply by driving a car and "putting mileage on it" you'll unlock custom paintjobs for each vehicle. That is until you reach the final stage, SuperRally, where you must place 3rd or better to progress.

STRENGTHS:

The first thing you're going to love about RalliSport Challenge 2 is the graphics. The predecessor (RalliSport Challenge) created the standard for a new level of amazing graphics, but this game improves on that with dynamic graphics, like dirt trails that cloud the view of the people behind you and leaves that kick up from under your tires. Birds resting in your path will take flight as you approach and the scenery can be described as nothing less than picturesque.

The race levels are well designed and well thought out. Each has their own interesting twists and turns and elevation changes have been added so that you can suddenly lose control on a jump or bottom out after a wicked turn. Also, tracks have interesting combinations of sand, mud, dirt and tarmac which all perform differently as you slide through them. Although I may not know from personal experience how it feels to go out of control on snow at 100 MPH, this game gives me a realistic feeling of how bad it would be.

Speaking of which, the damage system works well so that you can't simply play "crash 'em derby" through the races to take out opponents and drive through obstacles, but also doesn't hamper the gameplay by making you drive too cautiously through every turn. You can lose a tire in the game, and believe it or not you can finish by driving on the rims, but your track times will certainly suffer. The game keeps you informed of problems with a damage indicator that is extremely easy to read even at high speeds. In addition, your car will "deteriorate" as you take damage, including blowing out the windows, bumpers dragging behind you and even the hood flying over your head! (Yes, I've instinctively ducked a few times.)

Soundwise, the game is top-notch. The car sounds, special effects and other elements of the game all add to the realism. Although many have complained about the music included on the game, I've enjoyed the thumping tracks as I make my way through the levels and, since the game supports custom soundtracks, you can add your own music anyways.

WEAKNESSES:

Alas, the worst part of playing this game is the off-track camera angles. Because of the elevation changes and other 3D elements of the game, you almost have to play this game in third person view (where your point of view is directly behind the car). Sadly, once you drive too far off track, the camera angle rotates and makes it almost absolutely impossible to get back on track without hitting obstacles and bringing the car to a dead stop. This is worsened when your co-pilot tells you "easy left" and it turns out to be a hairpin turn. You realize that your partner and the game appear to be cheating to work against you.

In addition to the camera angles, the display also can be the cause of a crash. In the RallyCross and Ice Racing competitions, your course map is on the bottom of the screen. As you hit checkpoints, the display changes from the map to show your position in the current race. Obviously, this can be deadly if there's a hairpin turn approaching and you were just glancing down at the map to see how far away you were. In addition, there are a few instances where DICE has placed a "dead end" turn immediately prior to the one you're supposed to take, or a second turn that is sharper than the one your supposed to take. These little "tricks" seem like an additional unfair challenge that the computer cars will not fall for, but also add to the excitement when you outsmart their level designers.

Finally, your opponents do not seem to be affected by darkness or some of the inclement weather conditions. This will certainly frustrate you if you're the kind of player that has to be first in every race.

SUMMARY:

In short, I would recommend this game as a "must have" for anyone who enjoys a true on-road/off-road racing simulation. It should be considered by most a "best of class" game for the Xbox console, despite some of the frustrating shortcomings of the game.

I had to write a review entirely because the spotlight review was written by someone who hadn't 'got' this game or taken the time to explore the settings.

Actually, I see reviews all the time claim this game is an 'arcade' rally game, indicating that perhaps the game lacks depth, maybe has unrealistic physics, or even simple fake graphics.

All of these points are wrong. Completely false. The cars handle extremely realistically, and most folks who play this agree this is the BEST looking racer available. Better than Forza? Not sure, but better than PGR2 by a hundred double the frame rate for start. You see, not least of which is the 60fps you get with a HD TV, but add to that the amazing reflections, muddy splashes, infinite distance view (with a tiny amount of inconsequential pop-up trees) and you have a showcase game. I've had more than one PS2 owner go out and buy an XBOX for this game after playing it in my house testament indeed to the incredible realism this Rally racer offers.

Previously, the 'easy left' that you co-pi states was mentioned as a fault... When your rally co-pilot claims 'Easy left' or 'hard right' then you have the game on arcade setting.

A simple click in the settings would result in '3 left opens to 4' or '1 right, opens to 3. Bump onto straight through tunnel. Hairpin right' offering a much more useful, accurate indication of the upcoming road conditions.

Ultimately this game is stunning. Worth every penny of the budget price it's currently at if you're hesitant due to lax reviews, don't be. I've put in hundreds of hours on this amazing game and it's a real as the Xbox can get.

Best Deals for RalliSport Challenge 2

I'm not a big gamer. I've had my XBOX for over a year and it's mostly collected dust. I love driving simulation games and I think rally is the most fun of the various forms of driving so I picked up RalliSport Challenge 2 based on a day and a half long online search for a good rally game. All of the reviews said that RSC2 had the best combination of realism, fun and graphics.

They were right! The physics model is incredible and the damage is very realistic. When you start an event, your car is shiny and new but when you get to the end, you may be missing a few body parts, have a few broken windows and you're covered in dust, mud, etc. Now THAT's RALLY!

Above all though is the scenery! The graphics are so good that one of my favorite things to do is to just watch the replay of the latest run!

Make you own music video! -

The folks who made this game really added a cool feature with the replay options you have full control over the playback speed and camera selection. Because you can load your own music to the XBOX hard drive, when the replay starts you hear your favorite music playing along with the game sounds and video of your last run. As you control the playback, you can adjust the replay speed from ultra fast to super slow motion with the trigger levers basically making a live music video out of the replay footage! Very sweet!

Australian dirt, Swedish snow, British leaves, French cobblestone streets...

Get This Game!

The detail and realism in Rallisport Challenge 2 is amazing.

From rain and mud on your windshield to the wheelspin and suspension on each racecar, no detail is left to chance.

Numerous race courses, race formats, and realistic tuning options mean you will never run out of fun.

Hands down, this is the best racing game I have seen on Xbox.

Lara Croft Tomb Raider: The Angel Of Darkness Reviews

Lara Croft Tomb Raider: The Angel Of Darkness
Customer Ratings: 3.5 stars

In this day and age, are we as gamers really expected to put up with this level of crap? Possibly the biggest disappointment in the history of videogames since the Sega Saturn, 'Tomb Raider: The Angel of Darkness' is the first next-gen outing for the intrepid Ms. Croft.

Stuck in development hell for the best part of 2 years, Core and Eidos should be very, VERY ashamed of themselves for allowing such a bug-filled, poorly thought-out piece of software onto the shelves, much less a game with such a rich and popular reputation to live up to.

Put simply, 'Tomb Raider: The Angel of Darkness' is an absolute dog.

First: The graphics just do not cut the mustard. Granted, the human characters in the Tomb Raider series were never graphically astounding, but here they're just badly done. Textures are pixelated and the frame rate is low. Lara's animations are smooth and her new costumes are diverting, but that's it. Characters like Bouchard and Carvier are not good enough for the PS 2, being underdetailed and very badly animated.

Level design is very substandard for a TR game. And, horror of horrors, there's only one tomb, The rest of the game is like a horrible cross between Metal Gear Solid and a weak RPG, where Lara is forced to run about Parisian streets and warehouses with no real sense of raiding anything.

Second: The control system is an absolute abomination. Lara is just not meant to be analog. Gone is the intuitive quad-style floor layout and now jumps and falls are impossible to judge, the upshot of which is Core have created a game which is insanely easy to beat. Lining up the camera, controlled by the right analog stick, every time you want to make a jump, is just annoying, and the collision detection is ridiculous.

Third: This is such an easy game to beat. Although I should point out, you'd better get to like the phrases 'Overwrite Successful' and 'Load Successful', becuase you'll be seeing them a hell of a lot. Thanks to the ridiculous control system, Saving and Loading happens far more often than is acceptable, and when you do manage to make the jumps and climbs without the control system hampering your every move or the game crashing out (happens a lot, sound and event glitches abound) you wonder what happened to the rest of the level.

A horrible, horrible game that yields no rewards, and will cause great distress to fans of the TR series, 'Tomb Raider: The Angel of Darkness' is something we should all forget.

Core, never let this happen again.

Despite all the hype and all the delays, "Tomb Raider: The Angel Of Darkness" turns out to be just a waste of plastic. The game would've been great had the designers taken the time to fix up the unacceptable amount of bugs and glitches, and come up with a new and different style of gameplay.

What do I mean by that? Every single movement Lara makes is animated and much slower than it ought to be. A three-legged dog with one eye could swim through a pool of molasses in less time than it takes Lara to run from one side of a room to another. Not only that, but simple actions like crouching take at least 3 seconds longer than they should. And don't get me started on jumping. Jumping from ledge to ledge is about the only task the developers could come up with for you to do. Apparently, it's the camera's job to make it seem a lot harder than it is. If the camera's turned just slightly to the wrong angle, you might end up doing a side flip to your doom instead of jumping forward.

The puzzles that you come across (rarely), are usually idiotic and unrealistic. At one point in the game, you're asked to get from one side of a room to another, unfortunately the only way the door on the other end will open is if the laser security system is activated. The first thing you should notice is that these lasers are very poorly placed and any real person could easily just step over them or duck under them. Of course, being the tomb raider she is, Lara must use a series of timed run-and-jump moves to get through them, making what would be an extremely easy sequence to get through into a much harder one.

You'll learn early to save all the time. The game is extremely glitchy and freezes up in certain areas, usually when there's lots of things going on at the same time (like when three lights are turned on and there's another guy in the room). Also, since Lara dies inconsistently, you'll never know if that jump to the floor below is too far or not. I found that in certain areas, a ten foot fall to the floor can result in death, while in other places, falling forty feet will only slightly hurt your life bar.

Then there's all those nagging questions. Why is it that setting yourself on fire will slowly drain Lara's health, but stepping into a laser can kill you instantly? How come it takes seven bullets to kill a guy with no body armor? What kind of dog dies after two kicks, but remains alive after being shot several times? What's the point in the stealth mode if you almost never have to use it? In the extras section, why do the game designers claim that '"Tomb Raider" has always set the benchmark for games'? Why does the "Cradle Of Life" movie trailer have such messed up audio? I could go on and on.

In conclusion, all I have to say is that "AOD" was not worth the wait and isn't worth your money. Save it. I hope Eidos decides to speed up the gameplay in the next "Tomb Raider" installment and gets some developers that aren't mental patients to work on it. If not, I won't be buying it.

Best Deals for Lara Croft Tomb Raider: The Angel Of Darkness

Had Eidos bothered to finish Angel of Darkness before they released it, they might've had a halfway decent game. It's certainly lengthy and offers a variety of challenges, even if the gameplay hasn't really advanced much beyond old-school Tomb Raider object-manipulation and shooting really dumb bad guys. (Yes, I know there's a stealth mode. It adds nothing. There's no penalty for being spotted, a la MGS or Splinter Cell, so why not just go ahead and shoot everything in sight?) But even with all the delays, Eidos never managed to fix this game's considerable flaws. Two major areas stand out: control and graphics.

First, the controls. They're terrible. Lining up jumps is awkward, as the game offers only walk and run speeds instead of true gradated analog control. The button layout is confusing-even a simple act like holstering your weapon is difficult, since it's not mapped to an intuitive button-and the manual actually identifies the target-switching button incorrectly (not a small gaffe, since one boss battle requires you to utilize this feature). The inventory screen is a mess, and once again makes simple tasks (say, reloading your weapon) way too complicated. And even when you figure out how to move and fight properly, Lara still seems to move too slow... and that's without the game-crippling slowdown you'll periodically encounter.

And that brings me to the matter of the graphics. First, those who consider these graphics "good" simply haven't played any real state-of-the-art PS2 games. The textures are repetitive and drab, character motion lacks smoothness, and there's little use of lighting to speak of. The cut-scenes are even worse-just compare with Silent Hill 3 (yes, the full game's not out, but all you need is the demo to get the picture), with its phenomenally expressive characters, to see how badly Eidos has mangled AoD's story sequences. But the in-game graphics are just blah; it's the slowdown that's inexcusable. It occurs even when there shouldn't be anywhere enough on screen to cause it-such as the end of the first level, where all you've got is rain falling and a door to enter. Never mind that no console game should experience slowdown anyway, if the designers truly know the hardware; why does it happen with so little going on?

There's simply no excuse for Eidos to release such an obviously unfinished product, after so many release date changes, and charge full price for it. It's glitch-ridden, it controls badly, and its gameplay is about three years out of date (at least). Rent it if you're curious, or believe it can't possibly be that bad; but save your purchasing cash for a game that truly deserves it. With Silent Hill 3 only a month away, there's no reason to waste money on AoD.

Honest reviews on Lara Croft Tomb Raider: The Angel Of Darkness

I've played all of the Tomb Raider games but Chronicles. AOD should satisfy any fan, despite all of the criticism that you read. It takes a little while to get used to the looks and feel of the new game, which kicks into high gear once you get out of the Paris Ghetto. As for the controls, yes they do take a while to get used to, but you do get used to them. Some people mention that they cannot step sideways or back to set-up a running jump: read the instructions, it's there, stop whinning.

Here is a list of the positives and negatives that I have encountered, and some things that I would have liked to see in AOD.

Positives:

1) The graphics are great, including Lara herself, with even some jiggling you-know-where.

2) The story line is a great combination of the first movie and the previous games, mixing murder plot and traditional site exploring.

3) New moves like peaking around the corner and sneaking up on people.

Negatives:

1) The game slows down in certain places. Really annoying.

2) The controls are not responsive enough.

Some things I miss:

1) The mansion.

2) Lara saying 'u-huh' when she finds something.

3) She loses some of her English accent. It's there, but it's really light.

4) I would have preferred a greater variety of sites to explore, including outdoors. Instead, it's really Paris and Prague (so far).

Quite a few players out there rate the games on the graphics and pixels and grids... whatever. I am a gamer in it to get lost. Tomb Raider was always a fun series to play and that is what I enjoyed. The scenery was cool in past games with the suspense hidden in the walls themselves, not in evil underworld-serial-killers-with-a-secret. She used to fight against the past, not current bad guys hinged on the promise of past treasures.

Alright, basically Lara has gone to the dark side (sorry Anakin) and it makes you cringe to go around corners. She's lost her edge and has fallen into the role of a victim running from someone in her quest for the truth, instead of the quest simply being the drive itself. I miss the rainforest and the underground tombs. I miss walking into a movie sequence that unleashes a broad new visual that is haunting yet intriguing. Lara is smart, sassy, and strong. Eidos and Core don't need mutilated "angels" to bring Lara back to life. Remember her purpose and let that be their guide. As for now, skip this one. She is not the Lara she used to be.

It's a cable that works. What else can I say? Lovely black color motif. Plugs exquisely manufactured in a robotic factory somewhere. Halo Reach never looked so good.

other thoughts: Could be longer. but is good enough

I was refusing the pay the ridiculous price for the HDMI cables that they sell in stores, so I turned to Amazon. This cable was extremely cheap to pay for and ship, and already had good reviews. It was also labeled to work exclusively with my 360 (although, I'm sure it would work with other HDMI hardware). It took a bit for it to arrive, but I'm glad I bought it. It was cheap, works well, and seems like a sturdy cable. I highly recommend it!

Honest reviews on eForCity Compatible with MICROSOFT XBOX 360 Xbox One Sony PS4

I bought this for my Xbox 360 a while back. When it arrived, i plugged it in (correctly!) and as expected, it worked perfectly. Until 15 minutes later. All of a sudden, the screen blacked out. I didn't understand what was going on, and i took it out and plugged it back in. 10 minutes later, the screen blacked out again. It never came back on no matter what i did (switched the ends of the plugs from the tv to the xbox and vise versa, blew on the slots to clear possible dust, etc.). A few weeks later, one of the kids i babysit was messing with it because I told him it didn't work. Expecting nothing to happen, I just sat back. I was shocked to see my game pop up, and I asked him what he did. He said he actually placed the two plastic covers of the plugs under neath the plug that connected with the xbox, causing it to be forced up while plugged in. The feed was perfect then, which concluded to me that the cord was built poorly. It stopped working a few weeks later, so i bought a cord from best buy and it worked instantly when i plugged it in. I don't know if I was just the unlucky customer who got the faulty one or if they are all poorly built, but thats what happened to me.

First let me say that unlike the football series I am glad to see two companies trying for our sales dollars as this competition makes for better games.

Graphics: Superb. 2K8 looked great but improvements for 2K9 are visable. In particular the screen views are more intuitive -for example if you are playing by the boards you will get a closer view of the action. Most of the animations are very simliar to 2K8. In-game highlight reels are a nice addition as well.

Controls: Some complaints were made about the complexity of the controls in 2K8 and there have been some changes to make the game more accessible to newer players which uses less of top controls and more of the face controls. For those who got used to the controls in the prior year, they do make them still available in the options. On the fly coaching is still part of the game.

Gameplay: The game modes are the same as last year in terms of the non-live play including standard quick games, franchise and season modes. Live play has some additional features including: managing your team from a web-site, doing a live draft and trades. As with most sports games live roster updates are available. The play is very similiar to prior year although it feels more smoother.

All in all a great game that should be fun for newcomers and veterans and in my opinion is a better series than the EA sports hockey games.

Well, I don't think it's a secret that EA unleashed a winner with NHL 09, but what about the 2K title? For the past few years, 2K's game has rightfully achieved their own fan base through developing a game that was both fun to play and comprehensive. While this years game wasn't as nifty as the games of 2K past, it's still a good game in it's own right that's fun and easy to play. While die-hard hockey fans will probably steer toward NHL 09, NHL 2K9 might be a better choice for the casual hockey fan, not to mention younger hockey fans.

So what did I like about this game?

First off, the soundtrack RULES! Hands town, this is some of the best punk and metal ever complied PERIOD; let alone for a hockey soundtrack. The short version: Epitaph Records and Relapse Records dominated this soundtrack and provided some awesome tunes. The long version: Underground acts like Operation Ivy, Genghis Tron, and High On Fire make appearances while The Ramones, The Offspring, Joe Satriani, and Mastodon are some of the mainstream (or at least major label) acts making appearances in the game. 2K Sports hockey games have consistently had better soundtracks than it's EA counterparts. This years 2K Sports game has the best soundtrack over any of the other hockey games 2K Sports that were put out; and considering that I've been a consistent fan of their soundtracks, that says a lot!

Also, the gameplay is decent because while it's involved, it's still easy to get the hang of. You don't lose sacrifice much function if you decide to change the controls around to your liking. You only need to look at the instructions once (maybe a few times at worst) to get it figured out.

Finally, the AI for the gameplay was right on for a hockey game. You weren't going to have a 4th liner perform Datsyukian Dekes, and it wasn't like a first-line forward was going to get stonewalled by a backup or third-string goaltender. You could play the game without it frustrating the living you-know-what out of you.

So what didn't I like? The franchise mode was a terrible disappointment this time around. That was the sole reason I liked the 2K titles over the EA titles for so many years (well, that and the soundtrack), but now many of the features I liked are gone (like having a fantasy draft) or are seriously hindered (you can't trade prospects w/o calling them up, you can't trade two players for one because the AI is not capable of managing the other team's roster, and you can't manage a minor-league team... and that's to name a few.)

Also, there were still glitches that appear when you play the game. I didn't mind as much when the titles cost $20, but it's something that's not acceptable considering the game had an initial cost of $40-50. I'm glad the price got dropped to $30, but even then, the Next Gen systems should have solved the irregularities that appeared in the PS2/XBox versions.

Be that as it may, if you're looking for a hockey game that you can convince your friends, family, or significant other to play, NHL 2K9 is the better choice because it's easy to figure out, it's less expensive, and the overall atmosphere is geared more towards being fun than being serious. Hockey fans or gamers looking for a comprehensive game, however, are going to be slightly disappointed due to the bugs and overall lack of depth the game provides.

Honest reviews on NHL 2K9 - Xbox 360

2 things i can complain about... ive been playing hockey games for years, and i like to play them at fast speeds. on last years, and all the years before you could adjust the game speed on a level from 0-100, 100 being the fastest, this one just has 3 speeds, slow, normal and fast... and fast plays like the adjustment on the old ones at like 50... i feel like im playing this game at slow motion, and it drives me crazy, i hate it... why did they have to change that? and also, the roster adjustment settings... if i want to update it, and sign free agents, and adjust my lines, i have to manually swap and change players from being listed as dressed, to scratched, and minors just to sign someone, so if i wanna put teemu selanne on the ducks, cause hes a free agent on this game, i have to send a scratched player to the minors, and send a dressed player to scratched just to sign one player, and keep doing that... before you could just trade and sign all the players you want, and then edit your roster when you are done... i understand you can just download the update rosters on live, but the latest update isnt that up to date, its updated up til august... its just very annoying for someone like me who likes to play the game with updated rosters, it takes forever to manually do it, unlike last years... very disappointed for something so simple they could have just kept the same and not changed.

This is by far one of the most fun that I have ever had playing a game. I'm really not a big fan of hockey, but the gameplay leads to some great excitement, especially when playing with others. Sure to be enjoyed by anyone who likes any type of sports game. Like I said, I don't even understand all the rules to hockey, but this game has proven itself to be very entertaining.

The biggest problem with the game that I have found so far is the control of the players switching from one person to another without any apparant reason. I'm sure I will get used to it the more I play the game, but it can be a little frustrating at times.

I want to make this review rather short. First, it's an easy to install Gamepad and looks very promising. You have the easy PS2 feel, dual-analog control pads, and a comfortable fit. You can install the drivers or not. It doesn't really make a difference because Windows will recognize it.

The problem with this Gamepad is that it is not very durable. I bought and tested this controller with MVP Baseball 2005 & Need for Speed Underground 2. What happened is, I had to take the controller back 3 times to have it replaced because the analog sticks would give out or get stuck in a certain postion. Now, in MVP Baseball, for example, you need the right stick to dive/slide with. Well, the analog stick stuck to the right in 2 of them I tried, so that ends up leaving you to have automatic fielding because you can't get to the ball when the player is diving for no reason. With Need for Speed, I found that the 1 controller where the left analog stick went out, the cars were just out of control.

There are many reviews online as I have found that confirm that Logitech never addressed this controllers issues. Even Tech. Support kept telling me I had just bought a bad controller when I called them on each one.

Be aware, once the analog stick goes, whether it is 2 days or 2 months, you can't calibrate it. The GamePad is useless. I would suggest you go with Nyko's AirFlo Gamepad instead. I've had no problems with that one.

Just like what everybody is saying, but it doesn't seem that severe to me though. Played NFS: Underground and Prince of Persia with it, when you constantly move the analog button, you won't feel any difference. It is only when you let go off the button and suddenly your guy started to walk by itself! Pity pity, it could be the perfect gamepad out there that resembles PlayStation gamepad...

Best Deals for Logitech Dual Action Game Pad USB

I bought 2 and both have the same major problem. Both have the analog stick calibration drift problem, which is widespread and well-documented online (check out the logitech web site user forums). Unfortunately, Logitech is totally ignoring the problem despite a tremendous amount of complaints (presumably because it is a unpatchable hardware problem). I am also upset with EA for endorsing it for MVP Baseball 2004. I replaced it with the comparable Saitek P880, which has worked well for me so far.

Honest reviews on Logitech Dual Action Game Pad USB

I bought this gamepad over two years ago now, and it's still working perfectly. Both analog sticks still work, all button still work, and nothing's come loose or scrapped or otherwise. And I use this gamepad quite frequently on TrackMania, NHL, and other games.

Though I must warn you of one little bug: the Logitech drivers are awful. DO NOT INSTALL THEM. After a year of using the Logitech drivers myself, the controller started going crazy, showing button presses and analog movement when I hadn't done anything. Uninstalling the Logitech drivers and reverting to the regular old Windows plug-and-play drivers solved the issue. Hope that helps all you people posting bad reviews. ;-)

Ok heres the lowdown, I don't know what came over the designers of these new game pads, but I havent purchased a recently made controller yet with a high quality d-pad. Which brings me to this controller, which suffers from the same issue as the rest. If you are buying this controller to play any game on your computer that require you to use your d-pad forget about it. The action is delayed and finicky. The d-pad sticks and cuts down on the percision in your gameplay. Bottom line, it sucks Im returning it. Im going to search for a controller made a couple years ago when, for some reason, computer controller makers knew how to make d-pads. If I could give this controller 0 stars I would.

There are more vehicles to select from, the damage looks really cool, the graphics are nice, the maps are available to explore fully and are quite large, and the physics have been overhauled quite nicely! Customer Ratings: 4 stars

I have been playing The Sims since the first game came out on release day so I have a more than a couple years in now. I previously purchased The Sims 3 for the PC and also on the Xbox 360. If you are accustomed to playing The Sims on the computer, the Xbox version will be a bit of a change for you. There is some missing functionality that you might be accustomed to. But I find that it is still a very entertaining game and one of the few games in this genre available on the 360 console.

Here are my findings so far. Please let me know if I got any of this wrong!

Some things I was disappointed about:

*Still no edit town button on the town screen. I like to fill the town with my created sims vs. the developer created ones. Could not find a way to do this on the Xbox version.

*Maintaining/deleting unwanted downloaded clothing and items is still a pain. Why can't I delete unwanted content from the Edit Sim screen???

*This is not an expansion pack, it is a completely separate game. So be ready to say goodbye to the sims you created in the Xbox version of The Sims. Time to create some new ones. I was hoping for an import option from one game to the other sort of the way Fable or Mass Effect works. Missed opportunity here in my opinion.

And here are some things I liked:

*The pets are really great. By far the best pets experience you will have in The Sims so far. Being able to control the pets adds a lot to the game. There are no horses in the console version but that doesn't bother me personally. I'm more of a cat person.

*The Digging and Hunting options for the dog and cat are really fun!

*There are some sort of town mysteries that you can figure out. I didn't get to try these out much last night, but they seem like they could be fun.

*I really like the new town, much better than in the previous Xbox game. There are a lot of nice parks and it seems like there is more open space between lots.

*The Karma Powers are just as cool as on the first 360 game, but there are even more of them now.

*Challenge Points are a great way to make you try out everything the game has to offer.

*Achievement Points. Need I say more?

Overall I find this game to be a great addition to my Xbox game library. It might not be able to compete with the PC version in expandability and configurability, but what console game can? If you don't have a computer fast enough to play the PC version, buy this. If you like playing games on the console instead of the computer, then give it a try. It's fun!

The Sims 3 Pets is a great new addition to my collection of games for my Xbox 360. The console version of the game adds cats, dogs, town mysteries, new karma powers, and many other exciting new items and features to the game. The fact that you can control the pets makes for a lot of new and exciting activities to do in the game and will surely keep any lover of The Sims busy for hours on end. You'll often find yourself trying to get your cat to go hunting or making your dog dig holes in the neighbor's yard. The Sims themselves also have new actions in the game, such as, digging for items and they can also now invent. They can even teach their pets tricks, which to me is very fun.

Even though the game adds all of these great new features it still lacks in a couple departments. Firstly it's a standalone console game, you're not going to be able to use it as an add-on to your previous Sims 3 console game. This isn't a huge problem since the Pets version seems to have so much included, but it still would had been nice. Also the game itself seems to be very "glitchy" at times, for instance often times when I'm having my Sim carry a pet around the pet will just float in midair beside them. Sometimes the Sims also seem to freeze up for a while at certain times when doing small tasks like filling a pet bowl, it always straightens out fairly quickly, but it can still be a bother. Most of the small problems though will most likely be patched with an update so don't let them stop you from giving the game a try!

Altogether I think this game is a very fun and should be added to any Sim lover's collection.

Best Deals for The Sims 3: Pets - Xbox 360

Sims 3 pets for XBOX 360 needs to be patched by EA.

EA's not trying to fix console issues right now, because EA said that not enough people are bringing the 'console' game issues to their attention.

Here's what i noticed right away in just a few hours of gameplay:

-Fine Control doesn't work, by pressing RT and rotating objects in buy/build mode, you can only turn object in 8 directions, you can't turn and place object in just any angle anymore, and you can't place object any spot other than the spot it locks on, on the grid automatically. This option was supposed to be in this game, it even sais so in the manual in tutorial. And Sims 3 for XBOX 360 could do it.

-Game is unusually quiet, because i noticed that the sims' objects television and computer has no sound at all.

-(An issue for Canada version players is that they didn't get the 12 hour clock like the United States did. They got the 24 hour military clock like the UK instead, with no option to swich it. (And Canada Always Used To get the 12 hr clock like the U.S. in all previous sims games.)

-Sims clothes in live mode look dull and faded, and i noticed jean material to be kind of blurred.

-Game play seems kind of slow, feels like a bit of delay when you click to do anything.

-Fast forward can make a bit of stutter or can send my sim flying across the room or float across room sometimes.

-If sims click on pet and select 'ask to follow' sim, that command doesn't work.

-A pregnant NPC had a stomach on bottom but flat on top, like a pouch, so you could see inside her.

-My sims character lost her voice and i had to replace my lot to get her voice back. nothing else could fix it.

-Glitches from Sims 3 for XBOX 360 return in Sims 3 Pets for XBOX 360, you still can't place picnic baskets on community lots, and if you place it at home, it glitches the spot on the ground it was placed on. Also you still can't stand on swings even though the option to click it is there.

Now for some good things:

-We have hot tub and sectional sofa objects now.

-Not a big amount of new objects in this game, but the new objects are great.

-Lighting is more realistic in this game, everything but clothes seems more clear, without everything being so dark, glowing or blurry as much anymore. Now I can see the tops of beds, carpets and counters more clearly, and walls, floors and objects look better in this new brighter lighting.

Also the sims faces, make-up and hair are much more clear.(and hair is glossy). In sims 3 for console lipstick used to appear mostly red and black, but not in this game.(And if you zoom in in live mode you can even see their eye color now.)And thats with composite cables on a standard tube tv. Another thing though is, night time can appear kind of dull colored if you don't set some lights in the house to 'high'.

It would be nice if they make a patch for 12 hr clock, fine control, and the silent TV and PC's. That's the only way the game would deserve 5 stars.

-April 2 2012--just updating this review several months later, to let people know that there's a 'Huge, HUGE' serious BUG that can happen in the game that you can't recover from, and deleting the whole game and replaying the disk won't even fix this:(i've checked the internet and found others that are having this same game bug too and they couldn't fix it no matter what they did either){also, i cleared cache AND by the way, the game wasn't on my harddrive, its just normal disk play. still this glitch remains}

Here it is: all of a sudden now, for any new game started, or continued, the inventory's "backpack", is already 1/3 full in orange, even though 'Nothing' is in your back back, nothing in your inventory, and nothing in your offsite storage.

It wasn't doing this before. the only thing that i could see that might have started this game breaker glitch, the thing different i started doing when i noticed this is:...(now i can hardly put anything in inventory without it filling saying theres no more room, then getting stuck on that screen because it doesn't let you press B button to go back when this happends.)

I wonder how the bug is staying because as i said i deleted Everything, the whole game, cleared cache and started again. usually deleting the whole game or deleting all items saved in game, replacing house, moving, or reseting with mailbox, should have fixed any glitch, but not this one for some reason. this bug is Staying. EA needs to look into this, because This Thing Definitly Needs a Patch upate.(its the worst bug since game freezing on save, which by the way happened to me once in this game too.)

--just a heads up to other players to not do the 3 things i did in case thats what starts that bug, because you won't be able to get rid of it, and its no fun when you can hardly fit anything at all in your backpack. i USED to be able to put lots of stuff in there. this sucks. i may as well go back to playing sims 3 again instead.

Honest reviews on The Sims 3: Pets - Xbox 360

Yes this is the same great sims we are use too however this version (xbox 360) is so glitchy I have lost nearly all my playing time because of a few different glitches. The first time was when I was going into town and it got stuck on the loading screen. Their is no way not to loose all your progress since your last save. The 2nd that happend to me just now is I got stuck when casting a karma power. I could do odinary tasks around the house but, I could not leave, build or buy things or read my pop up notices... EA may be saying they don't receive enough reports about what is going on in the counsel versions but my question is have they even tried testing on this version?

Also why no auto-save option?

My questions with this before i got it was, 'Is it going to be the same as sims 3 but with animals?"

And it is, you can still do create a mode, which was important to me, and graphics are the same. A few silly glitches for my game, but nothing that would ever make me think less of it (for example my toddler kept the same face and clothes but practically stretched out tall when the cat sniffed him)

Bought for my 360, basically under 30 dollars for a game that, in my opinion, is BETTER than sims 3 in general. There are a couple new cool things in build and buy mode, As far as I know the PC version is the only one with other animals other than just dogs and cats. Still way worth it even if there is only 2 species. With high free will, the animals are pretty much spot on with real actions for the animals, so it's fun to watch. Animals are aloud to have jobs which is cute :) Basically, in the grave yard, police station ect. Animals have only one skill level they can progress. Dogs: Digging, you can find seeds, gems, rocks, bugs, and relics. The museum gives you money for finding them. Cats: Hunting you can find bugs, and spirits. You are able to give you're findings as a cat, to your owner as a gift or you can keep the bugs/spirits in your house, and of course sell all that the animals find.

As for the sims in the careers, the skill levels they "need" to get a promotion, have higher expectations. In Sims 3, it was basically 'work on getting your logic up you skill point. Next promotion another skill point.' For this one I've noticed the first expectation for your job is to have it up 3 skill points, thankfully skill points don't seem to matter. For example my sim's are up to level 7 & 8 with all skill levels on the low side, and are still progressing.

Highly recommend this, can't beat the price for more added in the build and buy, plus being able to have animals.

Can't wait to see if there will be an ad on for 360

First off, I've been waiting for this game since the previews came out late last year (2006). So far, Bioware has done a great job of pimping out this game. And deliver it does...

STORY: A+

The 'cutscenes' are really not cutscenes at all. The conversations you have are pretty dynamic and integration of the choices of stuff to say is so seamless it seems almost natural. Early on, you get a sense of this when choices of stuff to do in the field enable you to remake your character as a mission-oriented commander or more of a compassionate search-for-survivors kind of guy, among some. The story picks up pretty much where the prequel book left off, and immerses you in the experience. You keep on wanting to learn more. You definitely feel like a part of this epic and that will keep you coming back.

Unlike Halo 3 and Gears of War which launch you into an ongoing war, this game sends you into a very deep, very complex world to explore. Imagine yourself as a hypothetical CIA agent before the war begins. Expect to see yourself running around the world, talking to people and gaining intel on people, and then having fight scenes from time to time. When you get sent on a mission to track someone down and there are lots of enemies between you and the destination, then you begin to see more of the combat-intensive aspects of the game.

---

GAMEPLAY: A

Expect to see a third-person shooter with a heavy RPG influence. While out in the field, it's like a Gears of War experience with a basic tactical system. Run. Take cover. Take some guys down. Order your friendlies to flank the enemy or to fall back. Outside of this, the RPG system comes into play when leveling up, when you get to choose abilities to level up, weapons to equip (ie, if you have 3 types of sniper rifles in inventory, which one will you equip?. I will cover this in more detail below). The controls were overall slightly different from control schemes used in comparable third-person shooters. It didn't take me long to get used to the system used here in Mass Effect. You can pretty much figure it all out in the first level.

I had the mistaken view that only snipers and pistols can be trained into an over-the-shoulder Gears of War camera angle when aiming (holding down the left trigger). Apparently, this is because I started off as an Infiltrator class. Different character classes can train different weapons. The soldier class can train all weapons. Sniping took some getting used to. When you first start off, Shepard is very shaky and thus it is very difficult to snipe. Adding points to level up your sniping ability seems to limit this shakiness greatly.

The tactical system is very very bare bones. You can order people to fall back, take on a specific target, regroup, or storm the area. Nothing much to it. Therefore, players can fight with their AI teammates as much of a unit (though I feel the AI tends to die a lot).

You also get to drive vehicles. Much of you have seen the trailers and saw that tank drop out from the Normandy. That tank handles like a Warthog from Halo 3, except with rocket boosters and a repair function. A heads up repairing means you can't move or fire any of the tank's weapons. Therefore, make sure you're in cover when repairing. I love the rocket boosters as it gives you an extra method of dodging rockets and charged shots from the geth. The big disadvantage is that you have to drive and shoot at the same time. This makes for some very frustrating vehicle fight sequences.

I am a big fan of how the game feels thus far. Having RPG elements yields a lot of control over how your character plays on the field. The shooting system is pretty good, but not flawless. My biggest complaint early on was the many loading pauses you have to go through, but the deeper I went into the game, the less it affected gameplay. Loading pauses don't happen in the middle of the heat of battle, but it definitely wouldn't hurt to possibly fix this up in future patches.

Finally, a decent portion of the game involves going out and doing side missions. This means jumping in the tank and driving from the landing zone to various points on the map. I think driving around like this is the most painful experience of the game. There's almost always nothing but an occasionally frustrating 5-minute drive between the LZ and the destination, and once you get there, after doing a few of the side missions, you realize that the site layout is a recurring theme. Therefore, if anything else, the side missions are a great way to practice and to level up. There's some more of that RPG stuff working for you.

RPG Elements: A

For weapons and armor, the feel is similar to something like Diablo II, where you pick up random equipment as you go along. Each equipment has a certain class: armor, assault rifles, pistols, sniper rifles, shotguns, etc (I haven't seen the other classes!). Depending on the character class you chose at the beginning, you have different combinations of these classes available to you. For example, my character class may allow me to equip an assault rifle and armor only. This means that I can equip only 1 assault rifle at a time and 1 armor. But since I pick up a lot of these in the field, I must choose which assault rifle I want to use and which armor to equip. The equipment select screen where you actually do this shows a lot of equipment data, ie damage of a weapon, 'clip size', so on.

Upgrades for each weapon can also be picked up and installed, including different rounds (ie, shredder rounds that add bonus damage when fighting organics, vs. armor piercing rounds against synthetics) and a wide range of add-ons (ie, heat sinks to decrease gun overheating).

Another big thing is that you gain experience out in the field as you fight more stuff. You earn points this way that you can spend upgrading, say, your ability to snipe or your armor's damage reduction settings. There are definitely a variety of choices to look through while you decide what to level up.

---

CHARACTERS: A+

I enjoy interacting with the characters to see what's going on in their heads. The characters are all very multidimensional and very well thought up and implemented in the game. Voice acting and video synchronization was flawless.

---

REPLAYABILITY: A

I have played through the story at least 3x by now, amassing more than 60 hours of gameplay. Having 6 character classes to pick from and 6 squad members to choose from, including the ability to choose whether to build your reputation as a ruthless military man or a compassionate and humane leader (or somewhere in between) definitely keeps you coming back to see how you can change the way things play. The different character classes really play differently so have fun with them.

---

To sum up, some of you may be looking at this game and wondering whether or not it's worth the $60. And I say it is.

PROS: Deep and immersive storyline that captivates from the beginning, well-made characters, seamless incorporation of dynamic cutscenes, unique integration of 3PS with RPG. This game plays very differently from anything you've tried before. It's no Halo 3 nor Bioshock. It's a very well-made original game.

CONS: Minimap is not intuitive at first, plays too much like a movie at times, driving between points on a map in the Mako can be excruciatingly boring, a lot of recurring layouts with the sites of side missions.

FINAL VERDICT: A+. Very well-made game, well worth that whole wait from June till now. I've been anticipating this game for a while and it delivers an epic storyline of gigantic portions in a way that no others have done. This is definitely for people who want to experience being in an all-new sci-fi epic and building up an altogether new and unique hero.

"Mass Effect" is not a video game. Football is a game, checkers is a game, ping pong is a game, "Pac-man" is a game, and yes "Halo" is a game. But this is nothing less than pure, cinematic, interactive fiction containing all of the depth, detail, lore, discovery, and character of the greatest science fiction epics of all time. "Star Wars", "Star Trek", "Battlestar Galactica", "Blade Runner"; this is a story that nearly dwarfs them all in sheer size, scope, and enjoyment while paying homage to them along the way. "Mass Effect" is not an action-based game but a massive story that you help write as you go along based on your personal choices. Sure, there is plenty of very satisfying gunplay along the way, but it is mostly a means to an end rather than the primary focus.

The story of "Mass Effect" is quite possibly the most amazing ever written for a video game, recalling many of the best elements from some of the greatest works of the sci-fi genre and putting you in an almost "Oblivion"-like level of control over the world. You could spend dozens of hours simply exploring unknown worlds and building your fortune that way while shirking the main story altogether if you choose. But if you don't have all the time in the universe to enjoy this one, the main story is not too long. In fact, I honestly wish it were much longer, but that was the sacrifice made for the open-ended freedom of exploration the player is given. One will most likely spend upwards of 50 hours just exploring the galaxies and discovering all of the tiny stories within the story that really flesh this universe out. Plus, there are many different ways to play the game which will command you to replay it over again just to see all of the what-if's and enjoy mastering all of the various class skills. "Mass Effect" also revels in making you face the tough decisions, forcing you to use you own personal morality to make choices that will effect the way characters in the game will look at you. And the many races of the intergalactic Council are watching you closely as a representative of humanity adn this will impact the game. What are the ethics behind genocide of a species that may, in time, become a real threat to civilized life? You decide. How about murder for revenge? Taking bribes? The safety of the intergalactic community against human lives? These are just a few of the issues you may face and have to think about before you press that button and possibly change the universe forever.

Gameplay could not be better. The combat is real-time and apes the realistic feel "Gears of War" while retaining the skill system used in Bioware's previous classic "Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic". Speaking of KOTOR, this game plays very closely to that previously untouchable work. All of the familiar gameplay and story elements are present, but almost all are improved, especially the combat. The real time shooting is a little hectic at first, but as you and your character gain experience, you will soon have the skills and savvy to utilize the system and dominate rooms full of enemies. The superhuman abilities include biotics, which are sort of like The Force, and tech skills which can include hacking an enemy's AI to attack it's teammates or overheating an opponent's weapon or shields. The implementation of these skills can be key since many of the enemies are quite resourceful and strong. Shall you use biotics to lift a foe from behind his cover so you can ventilate him at your leisure or just create a vortex to suck them all up into one whirling shooting gallery? Maybe I'll just terrorize the lot of them with my one-shot-one-kill sniping skills while my teammates provide cover. The options are only as limited as your imagination. The only complaints from me is that your squadmates can't be controlled individually (you can't send your heavy gunner forward while keeping your tech expert behind cover; both respond to the same command) and the grenades (while awesome and upgradable) are kind of clunky to use. The characters of KOTOR and Bioware's last game "Jade Empire" also had a lot more charm and humor to them and a lot more to say in between missions, it seems. I guess that's the price to pay for a less linear game. But then again, there is a lot of random dialogue between all of the combinations of characters here that help make up for it. For example, while your party waits in an elevator they will often have brief but personal conversations with one another. The dialogue for cutscenes and missions also changes based on who you brought along. This is a very nice touch. Exploring planets in your Mako ATV is also a blast, reminiscent of driving a Warthog in "Halo" but with much rougher terrain and jet boosters that can send you flying. Awesome.

I could go on and on about the hundreds of things that make this "game" the greatest of it's kind. It's nearly as large but more accessible than "Oblivion", more action-packed than "Knights of the Old Republic", and has an even better story than "Halo" and stands on it's own not as a game but as a definitive sci-fi experience. In my book, that makes this the best next-gen single-player game there is and one of the greatest things I've ever played. The best part? It's the first of a trilogy. The mind boggles at the possibilities. Buy it. Now.

Mass Effect comes from BioWare. The creators of Knights of the Old Republic. Because of that, it goes without saying that Mass Effect feels very similar in its RPG like approach. This is no clone of Knights of the Old Republic, though. Mass Effect is its own game and it's a very fantastic game at that. This review is pretty long. If need be, you can look to the bottom for a list of pros and cons.

You're John Shepard. The game takes place in the year 2183, and humanity has come to explore the Galaxy like never before. You'll discover a series of races throughout the galaxy and there's a sense of injustice afoot. Tensions between races are also high. You'll come across people who hardly trust a certain character because of their race. Just the same, a Turian (one of the many races in the game) named Saran has betrayed the Galactic council and its up to you to stop him and bring justice to the Galaxy. Mass Effect has a pretty intriguing storyline that grips you from the moment you begin. It's also well written with some fairly interesting characters.

The storyline is told through fantastic cut scenes and some fantastic voice acting. The quality of these scenes is movie like in its execution. The game also looks fantastic. Some of the character models look almost lifelike. In terms of eye candy, Mass Effect is sure to delight. It also sounds really good. There's a lot of great music here. Again, it sounds movie like. Hardly any game sounds better. The music always manages to fit the mood and situation at hand.

You begin by making a character. Much like Knights of the Old Republic, you're allowed to customize what he looks like and here you're also able to give your character a back story. As the game goes on, you'll participate in several conversations. These conversations have a direct impact on the storyline as well as shaping your character. Most times they'll also have an effect on the outcome of certain situations. Not always, but often they do. There's also a light and dark attribute going on much like Knights of the Old Republic.

In terms of Gameplay, Mass Effect is a pretty complex game. It plays a lot like a third person Shooter, but at its core it is definitely an RPG. As you traverse the field you'll have a squad at your command. You control Shepard and can give orders to your troops. Either you can send them ahead to attack, rally them or tell them to keep their distance. You can give these kinds of commands any time you want. Just because it plays like a third person shooter, though doesn't mean you treat the game as such. Mass Effect is not a very easy game. It is important to add strategy to a situation rather than go in with guns blazing. Your enemies have some attacks that can take off a lot of health at any given time. The AI of your characters is sometimes questionable, though. For the most part, they help in battle, but sometimes you'll feel like a one man army.

Throughout the adventure you'll also gather Medi-gels and Omni-gels. Medi-gels heal you while Omni-gels are for using decryption or electronics on devices like locked doors or containers. Speaking of locked doors, you'll come across some of those too. As well as locked containers and other things you'll need to override. You'll do it by entering a series of button presses. This is actually a pretty annoying mini-game. Screw up even once and you lose your chance to override and you'll have to result to using Omni-gels.

There is also a lot of customization to take in. All characters have certain talents. Whenever you level up you can increase a characters rank in a talent. In time they'll be able to do things like open locked doors with ease or be able to better handle certain weapons easier. You can also customize weapons and armor or turn them into Omni-gels. If you turn a weapon into an Omni-gel, though, it's gone forever. For the most part, the game is pretty free in terms of what you can do.

Mass Effect has a couple of glaring problems when it comes to gameplay. As you traverse, for one thing, the game sometimes slows down. So it doesn't always run smoothly. While you have control over the camera, you can't automatically position it behind you. You always have to swivel it around. It's not a huge problem, but it is one that can get you killed when you're surrounded by several enemies at once. It also doesn't help that the camera doesn't swivel fast. Also, much like Knights of the Old Republic, there are a couple of bugs that hinder gameplay. At some points you'll even have to reload or something because of them. There was even an instance where the game froze entirely. In short, the game is good, but there are a lot of little nit-picky technical things that keep it from being as good as it could be. Technical glitches that shouldn't be in the game in the first place.

Mass Effect is a strong game. It's got all the qualities that really make a game good. It's just too bad that it has a few problems in the technical department that keep it from being an overall fantastic game.

Pros:

+Strong storyline

+Excellent voice acting and script

+Very interactive story

+Fantastic looking visuals

+Good strong soundtrack

+Simplistic, yet strategic combat

+Deep customization

Cons:

-A couple of camera issues

-Sometimes there's a slowdown in frame rate

-A few technical bugs and glitches; sometimes these will make you have to reload your game... very annoying

Honest reviews on Mass Effect - Xbox 360

Bioware has a pretty impressive track record for RPGs. Their most famous work to date, Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic, garnered almost every "Game of the Year" award in the video game industry back when it was released.

Now a few years later, we get 'Mass Effect'. A Sci-Fi adventure that at times can seem as if it has endless choices for you to make. A few examples are things such as your character customization options (including gender and specializations), weapon and armor customization, and your "good or evil" path choices.

Actually, boiling it down to Good or Evil is a mistatement. It isn't that simple with Mass Effect. You are set out to be a 'hero', but how you get there is your choice. You can choose to work with the citizens you encounter to get complete your mission and be a Paragon. You can also choose to be a take-no-prisoners type of character and be a Renegade. If neither of those suit you, play it right down the middle a be a balance of both or neither. Your choice.

The story is Bioware's best plot ever. If you played the original Knights of the Old Republic, that's saying something. I won't give anything away, because the story is one of the main selling points of the game.

The combat is simple. In fact, some might find it overly so. However, I think people are missing the point. This isn't trying to be the greatest Third Person Shooter ever created. It's trying to revolutionize what RPGs can be.

The graphics are beyond stunning. Sometimes you will find yourself staring at your surrondings in awe and completely forget what you were doing. There is a minor buffering issue where all of the textures are loaded a second or two after you regain control of your characters, but it's nothing that really detracts from the games overall beauty.

In my opinion, I think Bioware succeeded in once again showing us the true potential of what the RPG genre can put forth. In fact, if there is one RPG out this year that is a must have, Mass Effect is it. Do not hesitate to order because you won't regret the purchase.

I'm very surprised to be reviewing this game -let alone giving it five stars. When my husband received "Mass Effect" for Christmas, I thought I'd be spending a lot of time rolling my eyes and reading a book while he was shooting stuff, not fighting him for the Xbox controller!

So, I'm not a hardcore gamer, and I'm not going to review this game pretending I'm one. I'm writing this from the perspective of a 31-year-old wife and mom whose interest in Xbox games has mostly been limited to "Oblivion" and "Guitar Hero" until now.

The graphics in "Mass Effect" are unbelievable, even better than "Oblivion," I think -particularly when it comes to the characters. One thing I didn't like about "Oblivion" was that it was nearly impossible to make a female character who didn't look like a man. Maybe that seems like a minor thing to other people, but when I spend a lot of time playing a game (about 30 hours in this case), I want to be happy with the way my character looks. My "Mass Effect" character came out pretty darn cute, if I do say so myself! (One of my husband's friends was over once when I was playing and said, "Whoa! Who's she? I haven't met that character!")

In addition, the alien worlds that you visit look great. There are tons of them, and there's a lot of things to explore on each one (including stuff that doesn't show up on your map.)

The controls were easy for me to use. Normally, I hate "shooting games" because it's too hard for me to aim (I'd just rather hack away at something with a sword), but after a little practice, I was doing pretty good. By the end (with upgraded weapons), I found I was actually taking out guys with one shot. Sweet!

The way the weapons and armor were displayed also made it easy for me to figure out which was the best choice for my character or other team member. In some games, particularly "Neverwinter Nights" for the PC, I've had to ask my husband to help me figure out which one will do the most damage. Not a problem here. One small complaint: In the screen where you switch which weapon you're armed with, it'd be nice to have them labeled with the TYPE of weapon (pistol, assault rifle, etc.) -I'm not gun-savvy enough to figure out which is which based on the little sketch.

I really liked the RPG aspects of the game. At times, it was a little talky, but I really liked that the focus wasn't 100 percent on combat. I also liked the option of incorporating romance into the game. (So sue me, I'm a chick!)

The plot -about a rogue Spectre (sort of a special agent) who's trying to bring an ancient power back to the galaxy -kept me interested, too. I guess it's just a variation on the standard RPG plot of "cult tries to take over the world," but it's done well.

The end does seem to leave the game wide-open for a sequel -and I think that's a good thing. I'll definitely be fighting my husband to play that one, too.
