Bottom line up front: If you are a game collector or a Batman enthusiast, then this is worth the money.

**UPDATE since writing the original review (which can be found at the end of the update)**

Since writing this review, I have beaten the game and loved every minute of it. There are definitely some intellectual challenges that I honestly wouldn't have been able to overcome if I hadn't had the game guide (which I highly recommend as well).

But, my opinion of the game did not deteriorate at all as the game progressed. It was fun, stimulating, and challenging. Once again, I think it is worth the money.

**END OF UPDATE original review below**

Normally, I don't play super hero games, because normally, they stink. But, my wife got me Batman Arkham Asylum for my birthday last year and I ended up loving it. So, I was definitely looking forward to this sequel when I heard about it. The trailers and reviews were not misleading. The introductory screen shots and (showing the companies that produced/designed the game i.e. WB, Rocksteady) impressed me. The main menus are also eye candy.

As far as gameplay, it feels more or less the exact same as the first game which is good. The combat system in this game is fun, fluid, and intuitive. But, they did make improvements. Batman has some new moves and takedowns and combos and it isn't any more complicated of a system to utilize.

The storyline so far (I haven't beaten yet) is fun and well thought out. Rocksteady did a really good job bringing Batman's reality into our reality. There was a lot of attention to detail with regard to the relationships and backstories of all of the characters.

As far as the Collector's Editition packaging and contents: I do not at all regret spending the extra $40 on this at all. I got some cool DLC codes (Batman the Animated Series skin and two Catwoman skins, as well as a downloadable sound track exclusive to the Collector's Edition). The statue is really good quality and looks good on my shelf with my other game collectibles. I do want to mirror the only complaint I've seen about this edition of the game so far and that is that the game disc is in the back of the art book. I do wish the game disc had an actual XBox 360 game case. But, this is honestly a minor complaint in my book.

Arkham City is a Fantastic game to say the least. It is extremely fun and entertaining. Being a big Batman fan I decided to pre-order the collectors edition only to be let down by it. The first dissapointment is the lack of a seperate case. The game disc is in a jewel-case holder in the rear of the art book which is an annoyance to get to. The hard jewel plastic seems to scratch the disc easier than the softer plastic of a typical xbox case. The other gripe I have with the CE was that not all of the goodies were there or correct (from the factory, not the distributor). The trading cards were nowhere to be found, and instead of a Gotham Knights blu-ray, it was a DVD. The only way to obtain these items is to contact WB support. After doing this and giving them my info, here we are 3 months later and my CE still isn't complete. Am i totally upset by this? Not really. Will I buy the next games CE? Probably not. The upside is that the statue is a great piece, but it's not worth the extra money. I recommend this product if you want to pay $40 more for a neat statue, a bad movie, and some stuff you're not going to get.

Don't hesitate in buying this game, and don't hesitate in playing it. With free-roaming over miles of Gotham City to explore, and thousands of criminals to deal with, you won't get bored with this game. The main missions and the side missions gives this game more impact and meaning. For us Bat-fans, there are a bunch of Easter Eggs, characters and shocking moments that'll make you stay addicted to this game.

This being an original xbox game, I was told to buy a hard drive for my 4Gb console. It took 2 tries to get a hard drive that works. And now that I bought and installed a 250Gb, and it still will not work. Original xbox my rear! Since I bought an xbox 360, the 360 would infer it encompasses all xbox games!!! Too bad...so weak.

I am a long time fan of this series. I got Ninja Gaiden back in 2004, then when the Hurricane Pack add-ons came out I participated in the Worldwide tournment and placed in the Top 40 and won a very rare Ninja Gaiden T-shirt (that I wear rarely but proudly to this day). I purchased Ninja Gaiden: Black in the waning days of the xbox. I got Ninja Gaiden:Sigma when it came out for PS3 (no controller rumble still bothers me to this very day). I purchased Ninja Gaiden 2 and the resulting Sigma 2. With all those games there was a constant....it was a foundation built by T. Itagaki and his veteran team at Team Ninja. Problem is that he left Tecmo after the completion of NG 2 and successfully sued the Tecmo president at the time. He later formed Vahalla Studios and recruited many of the best to leave Team Ninja to work on Devil's Third. The result of all this shows in this latest Ninja Gaiden game.

Ninja Gaiden 3 has a new lead director in Hayashi and let me just say that in his attempt to more casualize this series, he has stripped everything that made Ninja Gaiden great. All the RPG elements are gone like multiple weapon types with available upgrades. All the different ninpo attacks, which were upgradeable as well. The orb currency system that allowed for weapon upgrades is gone and so is the strategic gameplay that combined the switching between the different weapons and the collection of rare red orbs that refilled your ninpo attacks is missing. Also health orb collection has been switched to an auto health regen system. The move set is substantially small because of the lack of weapons like the Lunar staff, Wooden sword, Vigorian Flairs, Nunchukas, Scythe, Claws, etc, etc. The minimal exploration of chests in previous games is also absent.

I don't understand Hayashi's thinking in so simplfying Ninja Gaiden as they couldn't possibly be so out of touch to not know this would alienate their fanbase. The very fanbase that supported this series in the past and creating the game to more appeal to casual players is questionible because I don't think they cared about this series in the first place.

In summary Hayashi has gutted the Ninja Gaiden experience down to a simplistic repetitive experieince which will be annoying and unsatisfying for fans of the series and will prove boring to casual gamers within a couple hours. I will say that the Steel on Bone quick camera pan in's are fun at first but after a couple dozen of those in the first 30 mins it will become dizzying to watch because it happens so so fast and repeatedly that a new seizure warning along with a No Skills Required label should be placed on the back of the box. The story and combat is shallow and unrewarding. The mulitplayer is a couple hour throw away experience at best and there is no incentive to return to this title.

There is no sense of mastering your techiniques and combos because the game does not promote creativity within the move sets for different gamers to apply different techinques to come up with varying playing styles....this game reduces combat to hammering the X button for the win.

I am extremely disappointed with Hayashi and his vision. I am also offended as a fan of this series, that NG3 has been gutted from previous games in the series to a point that it is a mindless unrewarding hack n slash that becomes boring and unsatisfying within a couple hours. It is not recommended as a buy for fans of the series or casual players. It is not recommended as a rental for fans unless you want disappointment. I will recommend a rental to casual players if you like mindless hack n slash games requiring no skills or thought in what your doing. This series used to be challenging and rewarding, but this title has none of that.

I have much history and love for this series, but I have to say that I am no longer interested in this franchise with Hayashi at the helm unless some major changes are made in the next game. There is a huge weight on Tecmo and Team Ninja's shoulders if that want my hard earned dollars from future titles.

First off, I'm a huge Ninja Gaiden fan since Itagaki and Team Ninja resurrected the series for modern gaming. I have not only Ninja Gaiden and Ninja Gaiden 2 but Ninja Gaiden Black along with Sigma 1 and Sigma 2. I'm also someone who is a huge enthusiast for this gaming subgenrea. I have Devil May Cry 1-4, Bayonetta, Castlevania: Lords of Shadow, God of War 1-3, Ninja Blade, Dante's Inferno and a host of others. I've experience some of the best all the way to the mediocre. I'm not a guru by any means but still an enthusiast. The thing is Itagaki and the REAL Team Ninja aren't there anymore. He and all the leads left because of that fiasco at Tecmo. Love Itagaki or hate him, he really knows how to make these games awesome. But I'm not here to discuss my opinion on difference on the development teams.

I must say that I'm very disappointed with this entry in the series. I've always regarded the original Ninja Gaiden and Ninja Gaiden 2 as the gold standard for this type of game. I'm just quickly getting out the minor details out of the way. While technically, I'm not super impressed, it's not the reason why I'm really disgusted with this entry. The graphics and sounds are fine. Not amazing, but not really too bad to the point that it's hard to look at. Another part of the presentation is the story which doesn't really impress me either, but old or new Team Ninja, story was never their strong point. It was there to give the game structure but not be a majory selling point.

My primary gripe honestly resolved around the changes in the gameplay, which is what made the first 2 entries in the series great. People always complained about the camera, but it was a minor problem at the most. What gets me though is the horrible level design. The previous games have large areas where there are some things to wall run along and do other stunts while also having plenty of room to deal out death. This new game it seems to like to put the player in a small to medium sized pen where guys come from behind obstacles like crashed cars until it feels you're ready to move on. There's no flow of combat with the area. No long hallways or large ballrooms or temple courtyards to flip or wall-run through. It's just a one level small pen. Which not much room to maneuver to be able to do your moves.

The gameplay also feel sluggish and unresponsive. I found too many times that I was trying to turn Ryu or get him to flip out of a group of enemies or use specific combinations but it seems to not respond properly. There were times that I wanted him to fight a specific target and he wanted to look at someone else which would lead me to actually get hit. Even when I could gaet him to do what I want, it was slow and just didn't seem responsive. But that doeasn't matter because honestly this game is super easy even when it's not the "hero" mode the new developers talked about so much. In the previous games, if you button mashed, you learned that hardway and died. This game, you just get a gentle smack. There's no reward or satisfaction to doing something difficult because it's handed to you. The flow of combat seems off too. In the 1st Ninja Gaiden. It was focused on a target with a small of other other guys to go after. You almost had this nice way of focusing on a target yet can untangle then group or go after his friend. Ninja Gaiden 2 really improved it too where there was a fluid motion of engaging an enemy and finishing him then moving onto the next enemy withing a large group of enemies. It felt almost as though you could chain the fight into one large string of combos if you timed it well enough. Here it seems messy. Fights are somewhat chaotic but not in a good way. It was as though the 3rd game took both battle elements of the previous two games but made a mess of it. Nothing seemed to work right. Along with the sluggish controls, engagements just don't seem to have good pacing to do combos or to switch targets. The handling and gameplay elements just seem off to me. compared to other games in thie genre and even in this series.

Now, Quick Time Events or QTE. I always hated these in God of War. I feel that they are a lazy way for developers to do over the top sequences without really making it part of the gameplay. I do find them done some ways where it's tasteful but for action games, I feel they are more detracting that fun. Games like Bayonetta and the new Castlevania overall kept these to a minimum which is what I like. I just don't find it fun doing a DDR rhythm game when I should be setting up combos to own a group of enemies. They're more there to distract the casual ADD gamer more than anything I think.

A couple of other things I want to go through would be the lame gameplay gimmicks like the kunai climbing which is not only boring but doesn't seem to really have been done well at all. But maybe they wanted to distract us from the monotony. Another is the lack of decapitations. Personally, it's not just gore for gore's sake but more along the lines of gore that looks awesome because of the very nature of what ninja combat is. It's an great viseral aestetic of the nature of the game.

I could go on about other things but I think the bulk of what a long-time, hardcore Ninja Gaiden fan like myself needed to say was said and frankly I don't want to write a whole essay on this. There are others who elaborate about why we feel this game was a bit insulting to the fans of the series. We laments the disappointment that this latest entry is and in some ways I want to dream that Itagaki and the real Team Ninja would come back to save this beloved franchise one day.

Best Deals for Ninja Gaiden 3 - Xbox 360

So a brief history. Years ago I bought the first NG for xBox, played it a couple of times, and put it away because I couldn't get past the first level, it was so challenging. Then about a year later I went back and tried it..and beat it, and was hooked ever since. NG2, and the Sigma PS3 games...I completed them all. So when NG3 was announced, I looked forward to it with as much anticipation as Mass Effect 3 (which is a story for another day!).

CUT SCENES/MOVIES

Now I realize what the new development team was trying to do, they wanted to make Ryu a little more human, accessible...but in doing so they completely destroyed his mystique. The endless banter from the NPOs got annoying as well. It's almost like they were trying to make a Devil May Cry game, not a NG game. If they had made Ryu spout wise-cracks like Dante, I really would have been upset!! Not to mention some of the most ridiculous one-liners I can think of: "Oh yeah, I forgot you're a Ninja..."

GAMEPLAY:

Here is the secret to this game: Hold the Lfft trigger, and mash the Attack button..end of story. The beatuy of the counter attack, FLying sparrow, Inuza drop (sp) and other combos are essentially rendered useless as you DON'T EVER NEED THEM.

The great thing about 1 and 2 was that you never knew what was around the corner..was it a boss? mini-boss? a horde of demons? A battalion of RPG soldiers? As such you had to be on your guard. In NG3, the game simply funnels enemies to you..slash them...oh here are some more of the same..slash them..and more...and having to deal with their ridiculous vocalizations.....and why were the developers so obsessed with helicopters in this game??

NO decapitation or dismemberment...one of the coolest things was seeing a guy with no arm still come after you with almost the same aggression, allowing Ryu to finish him mercifully (or mercilessly).

WEAPONS/NINPO:

in NG1 and NG2, ninpo was almost a character in itself. It was invaluable, and many times could save your life, or at least allow RYU to control the combat, it allowed a reprieve so that Ryu could change tactics...in NG3 it has been reduced to gratuitous eye candy and a cheap way to clear the screen, plus it became a one shot deal, very disappointing!

All the extra weapons are gone (and each weapons' ultra cool finishing move)...WHY???

SUMMARY:

The new team has destroyed a once proud franchise and turned it into a very generic experience, that is minimally enjoyable experience..and downright boring and repetitive. I actually caught myself yawning once or twice during gameplay!

if there is a NG4, I hope they realize what made this series great: lighting quick controls and gameplay requiring thought and strategy, varied enemies which have to be approached differently and with different tactics, the mystique of Ryu..and variety

with NG3 we get none of these.

Honest reviews on Ninja Gaiden 3 - Xbox 360

This game is garbage at best. No wonder it got reviews such as 3/10 in IGN.

1. The game combat is extremely unfair. You have to fight dozens and dozens of enemies at once without regaining any health in the process, so if you get killed, you're screwed. You will only get health once you finish the fight.

2. Not very tactical. All you do is smash the buttons to fight the enemies over and over again, there's nothing tactical about this game, at all. You can't surprise enemies, throw a smoke bomb and take them all out at once, nothing.

3. Where is the story of this game ? Some bad guys at London say that they want to fight you, you travel to London and you're all of the sudden fighting a huge mechanical spider ? Later to fight a giant a giant T-REX ? Give me a break.

All in all, don't buy this game. Save the $40-50 and go buy some gas at the pump. You'll thank me later.

I have been a hardcore NG fan since the nes days. This game is a slap in the face to any fan of the series. QTE events , lethargic AI , etc etc. I hope you all fall on your swords. This game is an abominiation of an action game. God of War has other traits that allow them to get by with these shortcuts , NG is all about impossibility and gore. This game has neither. Man up , pull this game from sale , and FIX IT.

When Oblivion first came out for the 360 i put 80 hours into, finished all of the guilds and most of the side quest, after over saturating myself i took 8 months-1 year break, and decided recently it was time to get back into it and I have beat Knights of Nine(which is also on this very same disc) and am half way through Shivering Isles. And here we are...

Knights of Nine

-Good-

~Lengthy quest (5 hours), fun beginning, cool ending. You get a new outfit with fairly nice benefits, nothing jaw dropping though.

~Kind of boss fight at the end in a cool environment(i don't want to spoil it)

-Bad-

~Half of the quest deals with you traveling all over the map to touch shrines(to become blessed), you have to find 8-9 of them. You get a map, but the actual locations aren't marked on your main map so sometimes it takes longer then it should to find one. Became some what tedious.

~More fetching type activites then actually meeting interesting characters, go in this cave to find this, go to this other cave to find that, etc...

~Everying thing besides the new boss where you fight the boss, and armor, you've seen before.

Shivering Isles

-Good-

~Very interesting story, great ideas and concepts.

~New environment, new weapons, new armor, new tougher enemies, great dialogue.

~Great main quest, and some entertaining side quests ( the first side quest i did; i was told by a distraught civilian that he hated his life and wanted me to kill him, but he didn't want to see it coming)

~You come across some interesting characters as mentioned above.

~Lengthy, i've put 15 hours into so far and am probably only half way done.

~Decent price, you get what you pay for, after all, $30 isn't cheap for an add-on.

-Bad-

~Review after review stats how different the two worlds are, mania(happy/energetic) and dementia(sad/angry), but honestly, they're not that different. Don't get me wrong, you can tell which is which, but it's not nearly as extreme as i was made to believe. Let's take leaves off trees and paint the vegetation in darker shades and call it dementia. So far that's my only complaint.

For $30 this is a good deal because you actually get what you pay for. An additional 30-40hours to an already extremly lengthy and well made game. One side note, i bought this game downloaded it onto my 360, brought it my friends place and downloaded on his as well(he also had Oblivion). Therefore, if you know someone else who wants it you guys should split the cost because you just download it on your hard drive and don't actually need the disc to play the game(you only need the Oblivion disc).

Right in the middle of the Niben Bay of Cyrodiil lies the entrance to the realm of Sheogorath called the Shivering Isles. Here you'll find some bizarre things and even more bizarre people. Shivering Isles is the expansion pack to the brilliant Elder Scrolls: Oblivion.

Key Features:

Two New Armor and Weapons Sets

Many new special weapons and magical items

About 20-25 hours of new gameplay

A good amount of new enemies

New conjuration spells

New greater power spells

Gameplay 7 of 10

As odd as it sounds, the gameplay is not as good as Oblivion even though they are based on the same combat system and the quests are very similar. First off, even though the map is about one-fifth the size of Cyrodiil, it seems smaller. There are only 30-40 places to go. Quests are either found by talking to Sheogorath or seeking out random quests within the realm. There are caves, ruins, homesteads and New Sheoth-the capital and only city in The Shivering Isles. New Sheoth houses both Crucible and Bliss which represent the opposite sides of the Isles mania and dementia. Side quests are sort of uninspiring. One quest entailed finding calipers and tongs to sell to some idiotic guy who was collecting them.

Creatures 7 of 10

Creatures found in the Shivering Isles reflect the essence of it. They are somewhat more magical or otherworldly. Where as you'll find bears, wolves and mountain lions quite commonly in Cyrodiil, here you'll see tree creatures, giant ant-like monsters called Elytra and Scalons which resemble lizards that walk on two feet. Almost everything here is stronger and more ferocious. My only problem with the creatures is I believe I can name off all of them without even playing the game. So in terms of variety, it can get old. You'll be fighting Grummites most of the time.

Story 9 of 10

Mania and dementia are the basis of the Shivering Isles; two sides of the same coin. When you first enter the "strange door" you meet Haskill which is Sheogorath's personal assistant. Haskill makes sure you want to enter the Shivering Isles. He has a rather interesting stoicism and indifference to his tone. After this you enter the Fringe.

To get past the Fringe you must defeat the Gatekeepera 12 foot tall creature with a weapon attached to its right arm. Once you've done this you can choose whether to enter mania-a land which vaguely resembles the inside of Willy Wonka's Chocolate factory or dementia-a downtrodden less colorful version of The Shivering Isles. Note that either side both have the same locations.

After this you are sent to see the madman himself Sheogorath. He asks you to do various quests and what not. It is sort of like being in a guild, but after each quest you end up with a much better reward than you normally would. The story is has a lot more of a plotline to it than the original game.

Armors / Weapons 8 of 10

There are two new armor sets: Amber and Madness for mania and dementia respectively. In the realm of Sheogorath, you must find the constituents of the armor to create it as opposed to just buying pre-armor. Amber requires pieces of amber to create both the armor and weapons, just as the madness armor does. The amber is a light armor, while madness is heavy armor. If you happen to find a matrix, this can be used to create a whole piece of the armor. There are also very impressive pieces of armor later on in the main quest line, which are much more powerful than anything found in Cyrodiil. Weapons here are all marginally stronger to begin with than regular weapons. One in particular dubbed Duskfang is very strong and has multiple enchantments.

Graphics 6 of 10

At first look the visuals are every bit as appealing and detailed as Oblivion. When you get a little closer, you see it isn't the case. Unfortunately only a few of the weapons and the Amber armor are really remarkable. Amber armor looks like a yellowish-orange glass armor set. New enemy combatants in general appear lackluster-especially the Elytras. It is almost like they left off the last level of 3-d rendering. The landscape of mania is very lit up, vibrant and rainbow colored. It is the only redeeming quality to the graphics. All said, the landscape has very little detail and parts of the trees are not even solid-you can walk right through them. Basically, instead of improving upon the graphics in the Isles, the developers actually took them a step or two down. Parts of it really remind me of Elder Scrolls III

What I would have added:

First off, you should have been able to purchase a house; though you can inherit one on one of the side quests. Secondly, there should have been a place to enchant weapons and create spells. It got really annoying having to fast travel from the Shivering Isles to the gate, out of the gate and then to the Arcane university. More monsters should have been added and more time should have been spent on the texturing and details of the landscape and creatures.

Overall the expansion is a solid 7 out of 10, but has little replay value for me. I was a little disappointed in the general gameplay and also the amount of playing time. I paid about $28 for probably 20 hours of game time, when I got an average of 120 hours for each one of my Oblivion characters. So the value factor is kind of low. Visually, the game has very few things that will wow you. So I wouldn't recommend this to just anyone. You'd have to be a pretty big fan of these types of RPGs or Elder Scrolls in the first place.

Best Deals for The Elder Scrolls IV: Shivering Isles - Xbox 360

As much as I liked oblivion I have to admit the environment became a little monotonous compared to the diverse areas of Morrowind. The Shivering Isles expansion is a great addition to Oblivion and somewhat completes some of the gaps that I felt were present in the environment.

The Shivering Isles is a new landscape that can only be reached through a portal in the Nibbenay Basin. The new area is quite large, approximately 25% the area of Cyrodil, adding many new places to explore. It is divided between the brightly forested area of Mania and dismal swamps of Dementia.

I haven't yet played the Knights of Nine quest yet but the Shivering Isles is enough for me to recommend buying this expansion. If you liked Oblivion then this is for you.

Honest reviews on The Elder Scrolls IV: Shivering Isles - Xbox 360

After you download the disk onto your 360 you use your old Elder scrolls disk to play. It takes a minute everytime you start to play. New characters, plants and missions keep you interested. I have yet to find anything worth much as far as weapons. They seem to be the same old ones. The missions are a bit more time consuming though.

As anyone who has played Oblivion would well know, it is a game that, even when the main quest is finished, there is still tons to do.

Well this expansion "The Shivering Isles" should not be missed by any fans or anyone who wants something new to do.

There are plenty of new creatures to fight and plenty of new items and weapons.

It is simply a must have, if you really must know.

There is also a new original back story for this side quest that is pretty interesting.

I'm a huge WWII buff and per-ordered this the day it went up.

I've been playing it since release, it's a good game, but very hard.

The Game 70 out of 100

You can play in arcade (3rd person view only) or simulation (3rd person, cockpit or wingtip)

It looks and sounds a lot like the real thing. When you max your speed (what they call warspeed) and aim towards the ground you get that roaring sound.

Bullets have drop and you have to lead the enemy, and you really really need to learn when to use yaw and when to bank.

The ground is ok, not terribly detailed even when you crash into it. They planes are very good, however the controls inside the cockpit don't work.

The biggest problem is with the scale of the planes. In cockpit view I head toward a line of zero head on. Since I am attacking from height they I should be able to see a nice view of the plane. Instead all I can see is a big yellow arrow pointing toward where they are.

I circle around behind and pick them off, but even getting up fairly close they are not more than an inch on a 50 inch screen.

I wish it was more like Secret weapons of the Luftwaffe (1990 game by lucas arts)

The Joystick (95)

First its big, real big. Put it on a table and it will not move. Yaw, pitch, bank. Three buttons on top, plus a rocker. The trigger is about the size of a mouse button, but oddly doesn't click all the way in. It rest on a giant spring.

The throttle has two parts that you can keep linked together, very smooth and quiet sliding action.

While using the yaw (rotating the stick around) I actually felt my wrist start to get sore (insert joke here). The spring does want to return the stick to a neutral position.

On note. The stick comes in two piece. You put the stick on the base and use the grey locknut to screw it all the way up. Make sure the pins are clean, then tighten it up all the way. If you don't the green (trigger) button will not work.

My husband has played this game for about 3 hours today. He really enjoys it. I bought him this game for about Christmas even though the reviews weren't that good. He says the joystick is a must and improves the gaming experience .

Decent game play but, not as good as I thought it would be. The joystick is not a high quality product and does not have the sensitivity needed for good game play. Does OK but, the joystick needs tweaked a little.

Honest reviews on Damage Pacific Squadron WWII for Xbox 360 - Collectors Edition

bought this on sale --the only time to do this is on sale as the joystick is what ya want to get for other flight games

the joystick

great stick all around great features for the price(on sale) works well with flight sims good layout of buttons and the throttle seems at this time made for 1 engine games but seems to be made for 2 engines -it as a plastic linky deal in between throttle handles (later on feature maybe for 2 engine games?). good button lay out and nice extra feeling on switches on base

Saint's Row is a game that is a blantant rip-off of Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, from everything right down to the way you steal cars out from people driving them on the street. But make no mistake: This isn't some rushed piece of garbage simply set out to make money off the GTA franchise. It has a little bit of TLC put into it by the game developers, as well.

Similarities to GTA:

-You can do storyline and free roaming missions

-steal and customize cars

-participate in Turf Wars taking over neighborhoods for your gang

-customize your main character

-wield a large variety of guns

-listen to a large variety of music

-and generally play the game however way you want.

Enhancements over GTA:

-Much superior graphics

-better map

-a GPS system for your maps and vehicles

-customizable cell phone, with allies you can call for backup

-customizable music playlists (in case you get sick of the randomness of the radio stations and want to hear your music anywhere, anytime)

-the hands-down BEST car customization in any non-racing video game, ever!

-health items (food) you can access anytime

-self-regenerating health that heals up from about-to-die to full health in about one minute or so

-superior firearms (albeit none of them look very unique)

-a slightly better menu interface to access your firearms (I just wish they hadn't put the food and weapons in the same system; it gets confusing)

-the police are the most minor threat in the game

-public transportation is available to you (although you more than likely will never use it)

-if you find yourself stuck in water, you can skip having to swim to shore with the "warp" feature, which will do that for you. Pretty cool feature! Why aren't things like that in other games?

-shooting style & difficulity are fair (The shot target is in the fixed-center of the screen and you move the camera to aim, but it's a little harder to use then in GTA)

-both men, AND women, can be recruited as allies in your gang, or killed in other gangs. Hurray for murder equality!

-celebrity voice acting (I instantly recognized Mila Kunis as Tanya and Michael Rapaport as Troy)

Worse from GTA:

-No bikes or motorcycles to ride which is diaspointing

-no boats or planes either (not that they're really needed here)

-character can barely swim

-only one safehouse in the entire city/game

-clothes choices are lame and uninspired

-despite the good voice acting, the dialogue is terrible and it sounds like it was written by the whitest people on the planet (shades of "187: Ride or Die")

-an excessive overuse of cursing (if you're going to use it in every other word, it's impact and gravitas is completely lost)

-the A.I. is stupid, and the enemy gangs have that "random spawning" effect whenever you have a "wanted level" by them

-it's mandatory to do the side missions as you have to earn "respect" in order to do the main storyline missions, and respect is only gained from the side missions

-many of the side missions are hard or just plain annoying, like the later level Escort missions

-your character, although he has great stamina, has terrible running animation, and trying to shoot while running just looks retarded.

-the prices of things are way too high/too much (if you're just staring off and haven't saved up any cash, a fifty dollar hamburger may be a bit much). I'd prefer them if they kept them at "real-world" prices.

-the "humor" of the game is just weak and lacks any level of subtlety whatsoever, like the Wendy's burger chain parody, "Freckle B*tch's" for example

-the radio stations are horribly put together, and their names are awful, too.

-the music is generic and lame, and there's only a few "name brand" artists contributing to the game's soundtrack. Mainly, the Clipse and Twista.

-there's no difficulity setting and the main missions in the game are a bit too easy (while the side missions are often too hard)

-the "escape the police" method in this game is weak and lame. It's a drive-thru confessional booth, not that you'll ever really need to use it. I never even been in "Forgive and Forget" before.

-your recruited allies are complete idiots and you'll spend more time than anything reviving them because they rushed headlong into a dozen or so shooting enemies. They're more of a hassle to use than any kind of help, sort of like bringing young children along for grocery shopping.

-it's pretty easy to die in situations that don't call for it. Your health bar, despite it's regeneration, can't take much damage and a few shots from two or more enemies can take you from full health to death pretty quickly. Like, in three seconds quickly. This is darn frustrating and happens A LOT in the stupid Pushback missions that pop up randomally that you can't avoid skipping over.

-there's NO Body Armor, anywhere in this game, which only adds on to the annoying "easy to die" problem I mentioned above.

-the randomally popping up, mandatory "defend your turf against invading gangs" Pushback Missions. They were just as random and annoying in San Andreas and they're even more annoying here. What's worse is, in order to successfully defend your turf, you'll have to seek out special "lieutenants" instead of just killing everybody in sight. And these 12 or so lieutenants tend to hide out in weird, hard-to-reach places, and you'll have to make your way through dozens of enemies, risking your life, just to make your way to them. It was easier in GTA when you just had to kill everybody invading your land. Here, you'll literally be in an urban battlefield going against dozens of enemies, making your way to one of the four spots in the area your enemy lieutenats are at. (they only hang out three at a time and are scattered wide across the entire neighborhood warzone.) The worse thing about these missions are that they're more or less mandatory, and you won't have time to save whenever they pop up, and they'll pop up often after JUST completing a really hard mission or side quest. At least in San Andreas, it was fun to do these missions, partly because they were do in intervals and all you had to do is be the last man standing. Here, they're just a REALLY annoying chore.

-each gun has it's own set of bullets, making it hard to get ammo. In other games like GTA, bullets are shared between guns of similar types (universal pistol ammo, universal shotgun ammo, etc.), but here, each gun is different with it's own unique bullets in them, and you can only have one gun type (pistol, shotgun, etc.) at a time. BUT, because you can't use ammo from other guns, that you'll often find off of dead bodies, you'll constantly be having to decide whether to swap your gun that's low on ammo out for the one of a gang member you just shot. If so, you'll quickly run of of ammo for that, too. If not, you'll just have an empty gun on you. And thus, you'll be deciding which gun you have that is more fuel efficent, quite often in heavily heated turf wars or in missions with tons of enemies to kill. What's worse is every single gangster carries different random guns on them. If the Vice Kings just all had Vice pistols and the Carnales had a different pistol type they all shared, it'd be a lot simplier. But, no, every time you kill someone, it's "do I run out of ammo, or pick this up instead, even though it only has five more bullets in it than the one I already have?" Basically, you'll easily use up all the ammo for whichever gun you have and will have to replace it for another gun (which only has a few bullets in it) and back and fourth like so. (In other words: YOU'RE *ALWAYS* RUNNING OUT OF AMMO!)

Overall, Saint's Row is a worthy edition to the GTA genre of video games. Although it's a rip-off, in every sense of the word, it's defintely not of inferior quality. In fact, Saint's Row is even better than most of Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas. The game, at it's core is nice, but what really bogs it down are the minor negatives, which as you can see, really begin to add up. The game is much better than Three Stars, but all these little things keep it from being Five Star worthy. Other than the numerous minor flaws, the only problem is the story, which is pretty lame and generic, and the script, which is just laughably cheesy in it's attempt to sound "urban" or "gangsta" or "hip hop" or whatever. San Andreas' dialogue and script felt 100% genuine. Saint's Rows, however, sounds forced, like they were too lazy to do their research and just decided to "wing it."

It would be easy to just make a Grand Theft Auto clone that's pretty bad (True Crime has proved that, for us). It would also be pretty easy to try to make your own game, using many of the famous GTA elements involved (I.E, CrackDown). But Saint's Row, however, is a true Grand Theft Auto imitation, that manages not to photocopy the game, but use it as a worthy starting off point for their own series. I like mostly everything in this game, and the only real things keeping it from being superior to every GTA game ever made on the older consoles, is it's cheesy dialogue, numerous small annoyances, it's and cheesy writing, and lame attempts to be "funny."

Other than that, Saint's Row is a worthy duplication of the "sandbox shooting and driving" genre created by GTA itself, and it definitely deserves to be played, even if only as a week-long rental, by ANY Grand Theft Auto fan.

So long as you don't include originality as part of your game evaluation process, Saint's Row is a stellar, stellar piece of programming. It fixes five of the six problems with the GTA series, and offers tons of little "next-gen" improvements that make it more palatable for older gamers.

1)Graphics: The draw distances and general graphical ... "cruddiness"... of the PS2 (and even the XBOX) versions of GTA are a thing of the past. The game looks great. There's some pop-up with long streets, but the explosions, character models, and polish is simply a vast improvement. I actually thought San Andreas looked worse than Vice City, so this is almost a two-step improvement for me. The explosions, weather and lighting effects, and reflections are really incredible when you consider the lack of loading times.

2)Auto-Aiming: It's gone. I'm not quite used to the borrowed FPS style yet, but anything would be better than the broken auto aiming feature of GTA. It shan't be missed.

3)Save Scheme: No longer am I limited to the GTA "one save per half an hour of playing" madness. Hallelujah. I can't devote large chunks of time to a game, and if I can't save frequently, I lose interest fast.

4)Restarting Missions. Recovering your weapons and restarting missions from the beginning (actually, before the beginning) was asinine in GTA. It wastes time and annoys gamers without really upping the difficulty. Also won't be missed.

5)On-line. Haven't had a chance to play with my own copy yet, but watched someone else play. It might suck, it might be great, but at least it's there.

6)Timed, pizza-delivery missions. They haven't really reared up yet, but hopefully these annoying time-wasters are gone. We'll see.

The main problems I see with Saint's Row I *suspect* will be solved with Xbox live "updates"/purchases. It took me an hour to realize that there were tons of cars, but no motorcycles, etc. I have a feeling we'll have to pay for the privilege of flying a chopper or driving a boat. That will suck. It better be cheap, because the lack of these vehicle options doesn't feel like a game limitation, but like a conscious programming choice.

The story seems pretty derivative, but I'm not far enough along to really evaluate it.

I can't really see myself ever playing any current version of GTA ever again. After only a few hours of Saint's Row you realize that GTA has too many annoying idiosyncracies that should have been fixed long ago.

For fans of the sandbox genre, this is the game to buy, and may be for quite some time.

Best Deals for Saints Row (Platinum Hits)

Look, this game is not as good as GTA, especially the amazing experience that is San Andreas. However, this game is still very good and will hold over GTA fans until IV comes out later this year. If you enjoy playing GTA, chances are you will enjoy this game, especially where this franchise made some significant improvements. If you didn't like GTA games and are offended with overt violence, strong language, and direct sexual references, then steer away from this game. Here are the pros, cons, and "washes" as they compare to GTA:

Pros:

Better graphics

Better sound effects of cars and weapons

Cars are cooler

Superior implementation of the map functionality.

Save system is improved, but I can not understand in today's day and age of gaming why RPG-action games like this don't have a "save-at-any-time" functionality or at least provide reasonable interim mission save points which this game did not.

Ability to save up to 70 cars in your garage

Insurance Fraud missions are arguably the most enjoyable missions ever envisioned for a sandbox game.

Some other missions that were direct rip-offs from GTA are arguably more fun like the pimp missions, hijacking, and hit-man.

Cons:

There is no mistaking that overall feeling of an awesome atmosphere you get in any GTA game that just wasn't present in this title. I can't put my finger on it, but you will see what I mean if you get to experience this game vs. any GTA game.

Story was a little better in San Andreas

No planes, boats, motorcycles, helicopters, or bicycles.

Voice acting is superior in GTA San Andreas. With that said, there was just way too much cursing. Cursing in any game or movie is good for adult entertainment when it is appropriate for the setting. This title just went way over the top on the cursing and was mostly out of place.

Music selection is superior in San Andreas in both amount and quality.

Washes neither better or worse than GTA:

Open world sandbox environment enabling diverse ways to execute missions

Driving mechanics of the cars

Despite popular opinion, weapons functionality, though different, have about the same difficulty/ease factor.

Map size and mission amount/scope is more epic in San Andreas, but this title is probably a little bigger that GTA III and possibly Vice City. Not too shabby.

Welcome to Stillwater, a modern American city full of great food, commerce, and unrestricted gang warfare. With the 3rd Street Saints, Vice Kings and the Carnales waging a city wide turf war for supremacy, there has never been a better time to visit.

The game opens up with your customized character getting caught in the crossfire of a gang war. You are saved by Julius, the leader of the 3rd Street Saints, and are recruited into his gang in an effort to clean up the streets. The first couple of missions serve as a sort of introductory sequence that teaches you the mission structure of the game and introduces you to some core characters. The game has three different story arcs, one for each rival gang, for you to tackle in whatever order you would like.

After each story mission you must build your respect before you will be offered the next one. There are numerous ways to build your respect, but the easiest way to do it is to take on various side missions located throughout the city. These missions range from drug trafficking to street racing. The activities get harder as you complete them, maxing out at level 8 and awarding you a prize such as unlimited shotgun ammo at your crib or taking less damage in car crashes.

Almost all of activities are pretty fun, but the two most enjoyable are probably mayhem and insurance fraud. In mayhem, you are tasked with going to a certain area of the city and causing as much damage as you can within a certain amount of time. You are always given a few weapons with unlimited ammo and bonuses for destroying certain targets. Destroying everything in sight with a rocket launcher on mayhem's level 8 is one of the most enjoyable moments of the game. In insurance fraud, you attempt to throw yourself in front of traffic to collect money from lawsuits. You earn bonuses based on things like air time, hitting police cars, and the number of witnesses.

Besides those side missions, there are a few other ways of gaining respect. Robbing any store you want will give you a small amount of respect. Tagging over other gang's graffiti will also net you some respect. To help you speed up the time it takes to earn respect, you can spend your money on clothes, jewelry, and tattoos for your character. These items give you respect bonuses when you complete missions. Overall, the side mission system works pretty well. It creates a good pacing for the game, preventing you from blowing through the missions in just a few hours.

Besides allowing you to unlock new missions, as you gain more respect you will be able to recruit more "homies" (up to three at one time). "Homies" are friendly gang members which will help protect you by shooting out of car windows while you drive and following you around on foot. They do a pretty good job of helping you kill whoever is attacking you and hardly ever get stuck on objects such as trees. When they die, you have thirty seconds to revive them before they are permanently dead. At first this sounds like it would make the game too easy, but the "homies" are not overly effective, and don't take too much to kill. If you had to go find new ones every time one of them died, it would become pretty frustrating. So having 30 seconds to revive those that died turns out to be pretty convenient.

When you are not building up respect, you will literally be taking back the city block by block. Completing a story mission in a certain area of the city will put that area under the control of your gang. Controlling areas of the city actually has some impact on the gameplay. You will see friendly gang members patrolling the streets, providing you a safe area to run to if you are being chased by police or enemy gang members. Controlling different districts also gives you money every day that you can get from your safe back at your crib. The more territory you control, the faster you gain money. You also get new save points as well. The game allows you to save whenever you want, placing you at the closest save point from where you saved when you reload the game. So controlling more save points is definitely nice. Sometimes rival gangs will attack territory that you control, at which point you need to stop whatever you are doing and rush there to help push back the attack. If you wait too long, you risk losing your territory. This is a nice touch, and makes you feel like you are just one small part of a larger turf war.

The story missions themselves are pretty well designed and not overly difficult or annoying. There were many missions in Grand Theft Auto 3 and Grand Theft Auto San Andreas that I personally found extremely annoying and simply not fun to play. While the missions in Saints Row are challenging, I didn't run across any annoying missions like those in the GTA games. I always felt like I was making progress. The cinematic sequences for each of the missions are pretty well directed. The voice acting is great as well. The storyline turns out to be memorable and one of the highlights of the game.

While playing the game, it's safe to say that you will be doing a lot of driving and shooting. The game features tons of cars, all with rock solid control. While none of them are real licensed cars, they all look different from each other and handle differently as well.

There is a pretty good selection of weapons in the game as well. Most of what you would expect to see is here, including pistols, machine guns, rifles, rocket launchers, grenades and more are present. The shooting controls are vastly improved over those of Grand Theft Auto, allowing you to control the player like you would in a first person shooter. You won't find any lock on targeting here. This goes a long way in making the firefights much more intense and fun then those in GTA.

The game features other big enhancements over Grand Theft Auto, the most important of which is the map system. At any point during the game you can bring up the map to set waypoints and locate new activities and missions. You can sort the map by stores, activities, missions, strongholds, and cribs to make finding locations very easy. The on screen minimap will show you the most efficient route to your waypoint or next objective, which makes navigating around the city a breeze. This is especially helpful during fast car chases.

Another small but significant improvement is the ability to shoot enemies in cars through the windshield. So instead of having to fill the car full of lead to get it to stop, you can instead take out the driver with one well placed shot to the head. This is extremely useful while in car chases. Since you can drive and shoot at the same time, it's not that difficult to shoot the driver of the car chasing you through his windshield.

Besides those gamplay enhancements, Saints Row is also packing some amazing visuals. The entire city of Stillwater is rendered in glorious high definition. Everything in the world is extremely detailed. The game also features pretty good looking lighting and real time weather effects. The cars in the game look excellent, especially the way they crumple on impact. When cars explode, they send pieces of metal and tires flying everywhere. The frame rate is mostly pretty solid, though it can take a dive at times when there is a ton going on. However, this never hindered my enjoyment of the game.

The biggest criticism that you could have against the game is its lack of originality. In my opinion, there is nothing inherently wrong with a game copying another, especially when it manages to improve on its inspiration. The fact that Saints Row sticks pretty close to the Grand Theft Auto formula means that inherits many of the good qualities of the GTA series, making Saints Row a pretty good game in the process. Since it does manage improve upon GTA in many aspects, it's worth while for fans of the GTA series to play it. It's probably fair to say that if you liked Grand Theft Auto then you will enjoy Saints Row. If you found some aspects of GTA annoying, as I did, then it may turn out that you like Saints Row even more. In my opinion, Saints Row is the best game of its kind to be released. When GTA 4 comes out later on it may vary well topple Saints Row, but until then, Saints Row is the king of free roaming action games.

So much has been written about Deus Ex (pro's and con's) that I'll just say the there is nothing different in the Japan import. All the good things and all the bad things are still there. But I like this game for it"s huge amount of content, design and graphics. I prefer FPS's and this is one of the best. Yes, I like Dead Island, Left for 4 Dead, and Shadows of the Damned more but I'll come back to Deus Ex again and again.

I wasn't to impressed with Convoy which had some stability issues. Haulin continues (leaps over Convoy) the incredible style of the 18WoS series in a tycoon game that certainly is in a very thin class of terrific tycoon games. Haulin allows you to drive and pick up cargo in the United States and Canada. If you can accumulate enough money you can hire drivers, buy more trucks as well as trailers and retire to the office.

The driving laws are slightly tighter in this game meaning the cops will certainly get on your case if the meter showing your calious regard for driving laws such as running red lights, crossing the divider, and having an accident. The fines are stiffer. The minor issue is if a gas station, a service station, and/or a company is on the opposite side of the street when you cross the divider even with your turn signal on, the red meter starts moving.

So you're a truck driver going to over 40 cities to pick the cargo that you want to haul. The price is next to it and the farther you have to go for a drop off, the more money you make. It also varies whether you want to take a chance and haul precious cargo, overweight cargo or fragile. At the time of this review, I was hauling overweight coal from Phoenix to Montreal for $38k. Ive hits lots of traffic and caused 2 accidents lol. Already, I've been fined up to $12k. With Haulin, the traffic is more diverse, more traffic jams, and the traffic lights seem to last slightly longer but still can be very fast. The AI traffic is slightly better but beware of those quick lane changes. Just like in real life, expect the unexpected. The 18WoS series seems to add a little more with each passing title.

Minor issues: Would like to see more cities, roads, highways/expressways, inclusion of parkways (you hear in real-life a lot of trucks going on parkways when there not suppose to and get stuck which would add more realism), live people (the streets are empty with no movement of people), diverse traffic signals, turn signals at busy intersections, larger cities, dont cross/cross signals for people crossing the street, your character being able to get out of the truck and go into diners, truck stops, motels, and interact with other truckers, mechanics at service stations, more lively gas stations (getting out of your truck and pumping gas) buying food and drinks (water of course), being able to open the hood of your truck, checking the engine, for leaks, filling fluids ect. How about the option of owning a home and buying office property with a dock to park your truck, and go into the office and give the paperwork of the jobs, hiring secretaries as well as other truckers in your company. Being able to get off work and drive off to your home and relax. Actually driving home not those unappealing cut scenes that say 'Next Day". I would also like to see active places all over like seeing other trucks and cars parking in parking lots either at truckstops, gas stations, service stations ect. Sometimes going to mechanic and he cant work on your truck immediately. Dual core processors are mainstream now, lets optimize the next 18WoS title to use it.

In short, this game is quite addictive and one of the best buisness simulators and truck driving games. It has the potential to go even farther if more content can be added. Many games are coming out on DVD's or are already out (for example: The Sims2) to add more content and add totally more realism, the future of this truck driving buisness sim should be released on DVD.

You need a good processor/video card/ and at least 2GB ram to run this game. Im running mine at the time of this review on a Core2Duo E6300 (Dual core 1.66GHZ) and presently 2GB of Ram (one stick died and I RMA'd it) a Saphire x1900xtx and it runs great. Be careful with onboard graphics.

I wonder if the makers of the 18WoS series will add an online version which can allow players to interact with each other on the CB, meet at gas stations, diners, motels, at a truck stop ect. People can buy homes , cars, truck dealerships, service stations with actual moving bays when your truck goes on a lift, gas stations vibrant and working pumps either self or full serve, auto parts stores within cities (where you can actually park on the street or in parking lots) , or work in the office of the trucking company. One can only hope. I think I might be the only one, lol. After Haulin, I'm hoping the graphics will be updated and new content is as well.

*Please Note*

If you own this title, you will not need American Long Haul. It's 99 percent the same. Extreme Trucker is totally different.

18 Wheels of Steel Haulin' is unlike any other trucking game out there. For one thing when you earn enough money hauling goods all across America and Canada, you can use your cash to buy your new truck from a truck dealer or order one from the order truck part of the notepad on the game. Also in the game is the part where you can order trailers for your trucks. To find out more about the game,be sure to buy this game. If the video cards on your computer are not updated,be sure to update them so that the game works better. I had to do that and I can tell you that it works much better than it did before. 5 stars for this game, and thanks to those people who helped put this game together. One game play point, when you hire drivers for your trucking company, you have to assign both a truck and trailer to the driver.

This game, as mentioned in the title, needs some minor to semi-major improvements. Yes, the graphics were improved from Convoy, which by the way was horrible. But I would have liked to see even more improvement. But I guess SCS Software makes a few changes at a time. There were not that many roads changed from Convoy. Now, I will compare the two. In Convoy, the player could not save the game while transporting something. The police system in this game is slightly stricter. In Convoy, there were a lot of special missions, which I did not care for myself. I like Haulin because it is a trucking game, not a bus or car game, which are two vehicles you get to drive. Haulin is a better game, by far, than Convoy, in even more ways than listed. Also, I want to mention the map. I do not like the placement of it in Convoy. It is in the bottom left corner like in Bus Driver, another game from the same company. Bus Driver does not need to have a detailed map. But for a trucking game, where I rely more on the map, I like to have a good one. The one in Convoy is small and zooms in and out by itself, a feature that I feel is not good for a trucking game. Gas stations, service stations and the like, are marked as circles in different colors. In Haulin they are marked as squares with letters, which are easy to remember and make more sense. The Convoy map rotates too. I like the map in Haulin more. It is simpler, but better. It is a moving, detailed map that has two zoom levels, which can be changed by the player. Anyway, 18 Wheels of Steel American Long Haul has many of the same things as Haulin, but with Mexico added, graphics updated, more gas and service stations added, and more. One thing that I can't stand is the traffic. The player can be driving normally on the road, and the car in front of them can suddenly stop. I do not believe that cars in real life can actually stop that quickly, considering the fact that they are going highway speed. They fixed that in American Long Haul, but still even so, it needs improvement. This game's graphics are plain and boring, just like American Long Haul's. And the fact that this game doesn't have Mexico, nor does it have many other things, makes it a very weak 3 star game. I want to mention that the police system is not that great, or, the game setup is not, you decide. If you have to go to a gas station that is located across the road, when you cross that road to get gas or anything else, your legal status bar gets red, which means that you are close to getting a ticket. And in this game, there aren't enough gas stations for you to go to the one on the other side of the road, without losing fuel. In American Long Haul, that is not such a problem. So I really don't recommend either game. If you want a game that makes sense, buy German Truck Simulator, available on Amazon. It is a much better game. But if you want something better than this, get 18 Wheels of Steel American Long Haul.

I was so excited to get this and start my workouts but regret every dollar I spent on this game. The first of many problems is the navigation. It is very difficult to navigate around this game from setting your weight to picking a game. The Icons seem to push your hand off them continuously before your selection can load. The body scanner gives you extremely large measurements for the neck. Another issues are the workouts. If the scanner picks up that you are not doing it exactly right, it tells you that you are done for the day an does not let you continue! What kind of workout is that? Basically you have to spend 20 minutes + to get to the right game and then it shuts you out! If you go with a recommended workout it makes you do all these tasks which would be fine if you could get the navigation to work. This is an AWFUL GAME. Shame on The Biggest Loser for marketing this! I have gone back to my Zumba games which is easy to get set up on and is awesome at getting the exercise in. Do not waste your money!!!

Xbox 360 Rock Band 3 Wireless Fender Telecaster Player's Edition Reviews

First let me start off by saying that I am a huge Rock Band fan. I've stayed with the series ever since the beginning and have over 400 downloaded songs to go along with the exported songs from Rock Band 1, 2 and 3, Lego Rock Band, and the AC/DC track pack. I play all the time with friends. And just as I have upgraded my drums to the ion kit when the originals died, so too was it time to say goodbye to yet another guitar ( I think this is number 5 or 6? We have played a lot). This time however, instead of going for the usual standard rock band guitar, I thought I'd give one of these Player Edition Telecasters a try.

There are a a few differences obviously. Most are in the product description. So there shouldn't be any real surprises here. It's almost exactly the same size as the standard Strat. So it's not like you're getting one of Madcatz's oversized Bass guitars. The Fret buttons are 3/4 and after playing this for about a week, I don't really see any huge benefit or drawback to this. I just hope that it helps in the long term. I've had a few guitars quit on me early because one of the Fret buttons stopped working unless it was being pushed down by the righteous hand of God. I will say however, that the Frets are much, much quieter on the Telecaster than the standard Stratocaster. (As a side note, because of the 3/4 Frets, if you play Lefty, DO NOT buy this guitar. You will be excruciatingly frustrated).

Another difference is the strum bar. It is much stiffer than the standard guitar. It has that solid, "clicking" feel to it that is reminiscent of the early Guitar Hero 2 X-Plorer guitars. It's nice in that it gives you a more solid feel. However, it is almost too stiff for my taste. In really fast sections it can actually ware down your hand/ wrist if you are strumming a lot of notes in extensive sequences (Foo Fighters Monkey Wrench as an example).

The back button is also now a touch-sensitive overdrive button located between the strum bar and the neck of the guitar. While I am still getting used to it, I don't really like it very much. I'm just too used to raising my guitar into the air to set off overdrive. Anytime I've tried to hit the touch sensitive button, I've just lost my score multiplier (something I normally don't do when tilting the guitar). And that is exactly what the button is supposed to help alleviate. Still though, I can imagine that it would benefit some people.

All and all it is a solid guitar. I have no real complaints about it other than the wireless Xbox guide button takes far too much effort to turn on or be recognized. It's just what the rock band guitars should have been all along. A solid, fun, real looking piece of entertainment. The extra buttons are more out of the way (No more accidentally turning your Wah-Wah's off) and the whammy bar is a blast (It's solid metal and sitting on a massive spring. It also rotates down and out of your way if you're not planning on using it).

Final Verdict: If you play a lot of Rock Band and want something a little flashier than the standard Stratocaster, but don't feel like shelling out $200 for the Wooden, full sized versions of the guitars, get the Telecaster. No promises on increasing your scores though (It hasn't noticeably helped mine yet).

As I've noticed that they seem to be sold out of them on Amazon, try ordering them from NewEnglandMusicSupply.com. I bought the Butterscotch one from them a while back. And they seem to keep them in stock.

My son was really happy when he got it. He said that Bash was much better as a skylander giant than it was as a spyro skylander. He plays with it often.

We bought the Skylanders Giants game so that I, an adult non-gamer would have something to play with my hubby (gamer) and eight year old (on and off gamer). Needless to say, I am hooked. It is great fun and I, being just a tad more than a little OCD have decided I must have every little guy out there. Luckily I am a patient OCD and haven't had to pay more than retail for any character...

We like to see all of the different "skills" and voices they have.

Honest reviews on Skylanders Giants Single Character Pack Core Series 2 Bash

When the first game came out, I didn't really want Bash. A dragon made out of rock? How useful was he going to be? Upon seeing his series two video, I definitely decided he was worth a try!

Speed: Slow

As can be expected for a character made out of solid rock, Bash isn't exactly the quickest dragon on the block.

Primary Attack.

Bash's tail ends in a deadly ball of spikes, and he uses them in a 360 degree spin to wipe out his enemies, literally. With an upgrade, incoming projectiles can be knocked away. If you choose the Granite Dragon upgrade path, your tail swipe does increased damage, your stone projection (which will be talked about below) will deal more damage, and your tail swipe can be charged up for a devastating blow.

Secondary Attack:

Bash's second attack is not only a damage dealer, but also a nice way to get around! The rock dragon will curl up and bowl over his enemies. Since Bash is so slow, this is a nice way to move a little quicker. If you choose the Pulver Dragon upgrade path your roll attack does more damage, you can roll right through enemy attacks, and Bash will become giant while rolling which deals more damage and makes him roll faster.

Tertiary Attack:

Talk about being at one with your element. Bash can summon up large stone masses from the ground and, in combo with his tail swipe, can launch them at enemies. With an upgrade, of course, the damage is increased. I like using this one on the bigger enemies, to keep them at bay while you decrease their health.

Soul Gem:

Since Bash can't fly and already resembles a dinosaur so much, why not give him some cool armor to play it up? The Triceratops Honor Guard (which is represented on the series two figure) makes Bash much harder to hit. It grants him 40+ armor, which is more than most hats can do!

Wow Pow:

I don't have this in game yet (I haven't had him very long), but while rolling, pressing attack 2 will launch Bash in the air and slam him back down again to crush his enemies. How handy is that?

EDIT: I now have this upgrade, and wow! Your enemies are crushed beneath your earthen body, and since a stone uppercut appears whenever you use this attack, it also fires off and hits any enemies in your path.

I feel bad for writing off this handy little fellow the first time around, he's totally worth the purchase!

I was provided a copy of this game for review as I run a Mom blog titled "the Night Owl Mama". My son is 6 yr old and my daughter 11. My kids couldn't wait to jump right in and play this game when it arrived. You can play one or two players at the same time. The game provides a video tutorial to position your feet properly while playing the game. There are plenty of levels to unlock as you master the one's before but so far were still stuck in the first 3. The skate boarding game is the most fun as it's visually more appealing and requires a bit more movement other than foot position and leaning which is so much more fun for kids. My 6 yr old prefers the Skate Board game with the obstacle course over the surfing because the surfing is a lot like the obstacle course in Kinect adventures game just not much more too it than that. Surf and gather coins for points. Sponge Bob and Patrick give fun commentary during the game which makes it even a bit comical. Quick play mode is the preferred mode for my kids although there is another story mode which you can chose what your characters wear and board of preference. If your a Fan of Sponge Bob and want to ride the waves as Sponge Bob (or Patrick) or skate the turnpike this game is for you. No other equipment needed just Kinect and the game. Remember this is all virtual so no board needed. It's all on screen movements.

I bought this game for my kids, 3 & 11. It took us about 20 minutes to even get the Kinect to recognize us. And then during the game it couldn't find the 3 year old.

This looks like it could be a fun game but after 20 minutes of setting up each time its not worth it. I give a huge thumbs down. Very disappointed!

My kids tried playing it for 30 minutes but got frustrated because choosing the options through the kinect sensors was very difficult. The "Hot spots" to make a selection are very small and not sensitive enough to work correctly.

I am a long time FF fan, and have been playing since FF1 in the 80's. I was very disappointed with FF13 for several reasons, which have been repeated a thousand times, so this will not be "1001"-

FF13-2 is awesome. this is the game I thought I was buying when I ordered FF13. I love everything about the system, the cinematics, everything. The addition of the "God of War" style cinematic action is awesome, and not nearly as "throw your controller through the wall" frustrating as GoW(particularly the final sequence with Zeus in GoW2). Instead, the cinematic action adds to the game in a positive way. I would also note I am a fan of long hours of grinding to make the bosses that much easier and to crush the opposition with ease... This game not only makes the grinding enjoyable, I hardly noticed the grind at all even when walking around for random encounters for that specific purpose.

I cannot recommend this game highly enough. It is terrific. I only wish it had come out as FF13.

Before I go into my review, I am making it known that I have yet to finish the game. As I continue playing, I will update this review so my opinion will be accurate.

Opening the case: The first thing I noticed was that this game was contained on a single disc. This was interesting to me considering that the previous game was on three discs. As other reviews may have mentioned, this was because this game was made with the Xbox working smarter, not harder. I thought however that this might come at a price shorter sequences or shoddier quality. I'll discuss this more later on.

Storyline: Without going into too much detail,I believe the storyline in this game is much better than of XIII. XIII did not have a poor storyline but at times it felt as if I was being bogged down with inane details. In addition, I found myself wondering what was going on when I took extended breaks from the game. XIII-2 remedied this in two ways a storyline which (for the moment) is clear and coherent and with a quick recap when you load the game (this is pretty awesome. It pretty much sums up what has happened since you started in about 30 seconds which helps you get an idea of what has happened).

Gameplay: This has also been improved over XIII. While still a bit linear, the environment has been expanded to allow for some free roaming and interaction with NPC's. The battle system has also received some refinements, as you can now further tune your paradigms for efficiency (Ex: Having a commando paradigm in which all characters target a single enemy instead of a free for all). A big plus in combat is the fact that if you are downed, you take control of the next character in your party as opposed to getting game over which is nice. The QTE events and Live Action elements which have been introduced are a nice change and keep you on your toes.

Quality/Loading: The quality seems to be about the same as XIII but there are times where it seems a bit worse. Playing on an HD set, I can sometimes see areas which seem fuzzy/choppy. This might be a side-effect of putting the game on a single disc or not, I'm unsure. Also, during the recap events (when you load) the quality is significantly lower at least on my end. Loading times suck. Not going to sugar-coat that. I installed the game onto my Xbox hard drive in the hopes of lowering load times but I haven't noticed a difference in load times at all.

Overall, I am enjoying the game. As I progress (and eventually complete the game) I will update this review to reflect any changes in opinion I may have.

Edit: Just a small update on my initial review. One pro and one con.

Con: The Casino. This was a great idea and I like the fact that another game will be coming via DLC. The only problem I have is that there are only two games available (Chocobo Racing and Slots). It would have been nice to have more of a selection in addition to more games in the future via DLC.

Pro: The story in my opinion gets better as you progress. As I initially said, the story is quite interesting but as you progress, you encounter alternate timelines and...I won't say more since I don't want to spoil it. Overall, the story has swayed me in upping my original rating from 4 to 4.5.

Rating:

4/5 (originally)

4.5/5 (currently)

I will update again as I continue to progress. If the game continues the way it has been playing, I don't see why it couldn't be a 5 star game. More to come.

Best Deals for Final Fantasy XIII-2 - Xbox 360

FF XIII-2 continues three years after the first game left off. You assume the role of Serah, who now lives on a settlement on Gran Pulse. She's recently been having dreams where her big sister (and FF XIII main heroine) Lightning fights a mysterious foe in a place called Valhalla. She wakes up one night to discover that a meteorite has crashed down nearby, bringing with it a boy, Noel, who claims to be the last survivor of humanity from a far future. Noel has met with Lightning and was sent to Serah, he says, because the two of them must take a time-travelling adventure to unwind a paradox-filled history -and that's exactly what they do.

The time-travel element may remind some players of Square classic Chrono Trigger, and the comparison isn't terribly far off. Serah and Noel hop around different eras and locations in the world's history, solving problems and opening portals to other eras and potential futures. Though parts of the story are still linear, you're given far more freedom to approach challenges in a way you personally enjoy. Don't feel like advancing the main plot at this time? Boss fight giving you trouble? Just hop to a different time period to explore and build strength for a while until you're content. Unlike the "series of tubes" that comprised most of FF XIII's structure up until later in the game, FF XIII-2 lets you progress at your own pace. With that freedom comes the sense of excitement and discovery that FF XIII sorely lacked, as finding hidden treasures and using clever strategy to topple monsters well above your strength level feels immensely satisfying. And if you ever feel like you might have missed something, you can rewind back to the beginning of certain event sequences to do things over while retaining your hard-earned rewards.

Not everything here is new, however. You'll see a lot of familiar locales, tunes, and designs from FF XIII peppered in-between all-new content. The recycling of some assets can be easily forgiven, however, when what's being reused was beautiful and well-made to begin with. Also returning is FF XIII's superb, fast-paced combat engine and the accompanying Crystarium leveling system, albeit with some significant overhauls. You now have more control over character development, as you can choose to level up specific Paradigm roles on the Crystarium board (as in FF XIII) while also unlocking additional roles and bonus boosts (stat gains, accessory capacity) after reaching certain levels. Moreover, battles continue on even after the initial player-controlled party leader has fallen, giving you a chance to regroup and make a comeback.

It's easy to see how Square Enix took the feedback from FF XIII and used it to make a better product, but this follow-up still has some lingering issues. Every so often you'll encounter an obnoxious gimmick sequence, such as a giant time-jumping fetch quest, a series of out-of-place logic puzzles, or constantly regenerating and unavoidable Cie'th enemy hordes chasing you throughout a massive maze. Plus, the story falters at times, falling victim to leaps of logic and silliness, and dialogue exchanges often feel like characters are simply talking at each other rather than truly interacting. The trademark Square Enix CG is sparse, with most story sequences rendered in-engine. But perhaps most annoying are the technical issues: framerates drop precipitously when a lot is happening onscreen, and this sequel's few movie sequences frequently suffer from hideously artifacted compression.

Maybe the best way to sum up Final Fantasy XIII-2 is with an oft-repeated line of dialogue from the game itself: "Change the future to change the past." It's not just a paradoxical plot point: FFXIII-2 repairs almost every problem with Final Fantasy XIII, delivering an experience that feels like what that original game should have been. If your faith in Final Fantasy has been damaged by past disappointment, playing FFXIII-2 will restore your excitement for the franchise's future.

Honest reviews on Final Fantasy XIII-2 - Xbox 360

Just finished this three days ago and I got to say that I loved it! I enjoyed it so much that I actually want to try and get all of the achievements, which is going to take me forever. The battles are so much fun. You only have to characters to fight with through the whole game, Serah and Noel. Serah has the ability to summon monsters that she kills so that will give you another party member to fight with. Ciaus is one of the best villains I've seen in a video game in a long time (behind Sephiroth and the Joker of course). He's one of very few villains that I truly felt sorry for. I loved learning about his past and how he became what he is now.

The main theme of Final Fantasy XIII-2 is Time Travel. This was at little over my head at first because I'm not use to playing games with it. "If you change the future, you change the past" is said quite a bit in this game. The ending also ends with a very big cliffhanger saying "to be continued..." at the end. Not sure if this is hinting at another game or if the ending will be extended with DLC. Not really sure yet. There are several more endings called paradox endings that you can get after you bet the game but they don't really answer your questions you may have, they just and more.

Final Fantasy XIII-2 retains the Synergy Battle and Paradigm Shift systems from it's predecessor and the battle system is a more evolved form of Final Fantasy XIII's battle system. One new gameplay element, called the Mog Clock, has been added, where the player must attack monsters on the field before the time is up to get the upper hand in the battle.

Another new feature is the Paradigm Tune, which enables you to customize how the AI-controlled party members use their abilities in battle. You have control of the Party Leader in battle, which can be switched to the other human player at anytime. When the Party Leader dies, the other human player will become the new Party Leader. If both die then you get a Game Over. This is a great improvement over Final Fantasy XIII. If your Party Leader died in that game you automatically got a Game Over no matter how many characters you still had alive.

Characters grow via a revamped Crystarium System, and they have levels unlike the previous game. There is no cap for how many levels a character can gain at any given time. Final Fantasy XIII-2 also has difficulty levels, Normal and Easy, that can be changed at anytime.

i personally did not have a problem with final fantasy XIII. although the story was all over the place and only starts to make sense in the sequel, the hours i played on gran pulse outweighed that. the combat system was good but flawed, however not enough for me to just hate the game. onto the sequel.. when i first heard of its development i was thinking "what about versus and type 0" and "how did they make it so fast they must have rushed it". I was excited although a little skeptical, i did like final fantasy XIII and a sequel did sound interesting..

this game is 10x better than the first one and a very great game at that. its really a shame people cant seem to get past the flaws of the first game and the difference it has with final fantasy games but they are really missing out. the game play is more polished in the sense that when you switch paradigms the screen doesn't pan the characters while you get beat up, you can change party members in the middle of a battle, and the addition of monsters. the monsters are a great way to substitute a third character that breaks up the dry two player experience.the story can be a little tough to follow but is easier to grasp than the first one. it is a little complicated but nothing that would make you loathe the game for. basically i had a great experience with this game (except there are no summons)and would recommend to anyone who would be interested
