DoDonPachi Daifukkatsu 1.5 is a port of the shmup arcade game by developer CAVE. Note that this release works on Japanese consoles. If you want to play it on a North American or PAL console, see DoDonPachi Resurrection which is the localized version. I use a Japanese 360 to play this disc.
Daifukkatsu is the most colorful CAVE shmup to date, full of bright eye-popping visuals and over the top bullet patterns. It also has some really cool enemy designs, such as boss fights that transform from space ships into robots in smooth transitions. It's absolutely gorgeous in motion.
This is also the most forgiving game in the DonPachi series. Players who were frustrated with the difficulty of previous DonPachi games will find this one more palatable. But don't worry, scoring is as hardcore as ever, and even the best players will be hard pressed to maximize their scoring potential. Sure, I got the one-credit clear, but I'm not going to pretend my score isn't rubbish.
Several game modes are included. Out of the box, you get the original arcade version and two arrange modes (Arrange A and B). Two more arrange modes are available via DLC, version 1.51 (a DLC card included with first-print copies) and Black Label (standard DLC). These arrange modes drastically change up the game and scoring mechanics; at times they barely seem like the same game. Definitely give them all a try at least once.
The only arrange not playable on this disc is the second Black Label Arrange, or "Ketsupachi" as it's commonly known due to the Ketsui cubes. If you want that game mode you'll have to buy the Black Label disc. I like Ketsupatchi, but whether it's worth buying a whole second disc for is questionable.
The only real downside to this game is the cover art, or rather, the lack of cover art. I wasn't sure I even bought a video game when it first arrived. Given the quality contents though, I can forgive this.
In conclusion, this is a great game for both shmup newbies and veterans alike. If you're at all interested in shmups, this is an excellent package.

Penguin United Eagle Eye Mouse and Keyboard Converter for Xbox 360 Review
After using the Eagle eye PS3 3.0 version I see no difference in performance on the Eagle eye Xbox 360 version. Very responsive movements and nice micro aiming. I was impressed with the quick twitch wrist aiming translating to screen movements even though not 100% 1:1 definitely close. Having used all the emulator products on the market the last 4 years this product has excellent price to performance. This is a very good option for keyboard and mouse users who want to play on console. The video basically shows the movements I observed right out of the box I tuned the sensitivity that was it.
Slight jaggy vertical aiming no scoped without tuning out of the box but this wasn't an issue just something to be noted. I also noticed this on the ps3 version and on the xim3 it very well may be my mousepad... Anyway hope this helps people out.
Pros
Keyboard and choice of gamer mouse
Nice alternative to gamepad
Price
Cons
None that I found
Mousepad used Rocketfish control side.
I will update this review if anything changes but as of right now I found no bugs and I torture tested this product on MW3 stay sharp.
Buyer Beware:
Must have a wired xbox360 controller (a wireless one with a play and charge adapter wont work)
Not all devices will work. Most will, but only a few are "officially" approved by the company. (I have a wow cataclysm mouse from steel series that works great)
******Deal breaker for me****** Does not support headsets. (which is why I give it a 3 outta 5) The only way to chat with this device is to use a wireless headset that syncs with the xbox and does not require a controller. If you have a normal headset and feel like upgrading, i believe you can pick one up for $30, which isn't too bad. Unless, like me, you have a high end 5.1 surround sound headset that you never play without. This wasn't something i came across when reading reviews (and i did read a few) so here is your heads up.
If this supported headsets i would keep it. As it is, I am returning it and will be spending an extra $20 on the xim edge
Although the specification clearly said that it wouldn't work with a wireless keyboard, I decided to try one anyways. It's working 100% with no problems for me.
I am using it with the keyboard from the "Microsoft Wireless Desktop 800" for the Mouse I am using a Razer Deathadder. I will definitely update this post If I start getting any issues with this wireless keyboard, for now I'm thrilled it's working even though it shouldn't.
I downloaded one of the available profiles for Modern Warfare 3 from the company website, and after playing with it for a few minutes I was planning on returning it. The movement seemed erratic and jumpy.
Then I decided I would give the calibration a try before returning it. calibration wasn't super easy, but it wasn't rocket science either. It took me about 30 minutes to get all the different calibrations and sensitivity settings the way I thought I they should be.
Not more than 5 minutes into an Xbox Live multi-player Free for all match and I got used to this thing and was thrilled at how well It was working.
It's a definite keeper, but it NEEDS TO BE CALIBRATED. I'm a recent PC to Xbox 360 convert and while this does not provide the exact accuracy and speed a computer keyboard and mouse does; It's much easier to get accustomed to than a gamepad controller. And for me the bottom line is that Xbox games are just funner with it, I'm looking forward to trying it out on more games.
Apart from the peripherals. this product works wonderfully. Setup was quite easy, you must have to make sure you run the software as administrator on your computer when setting up your device.
In game the controls worked perfectly for modern warfare 3.here is an ingame demo of how well it works.

So...as you have probably read from other reviews, This product performs very well once you take the time to properly calibrate it. With a little bit of trial and error I was able to fine tune it into to near perfection.Buyer Beware:

Honest reviews on Penguin United Eagle Eye Mouse and Keyboard Converter for Xbox 360
I think it may have just been the one that I ordered but when I plugged the proven and tested keyboard and mouse into the Eagle Eye it only worked half the time. I was using the Razer Naga and Razer Lycosa. Every time I would plug them in the light on the 360 would go out saying that the converter was not plugged in. Having said that, I would recommend this to any user who does not want to throw down 150+ on the Xim3. When it worked...it worked flawlessly. It took a little tuning to get it to the way that I liked it but after that it worked wonders.Find helpful customer reviews and review ratings for Penguin United Eagle Eye Mouse and Keyboard Converter for Xbox 360

Review of Bruce Lee: Quest of the Dragon
There are so many things about this game that make it stupid. Luckily, I only rented it (and returned it the same night *lol*). I feel sorry for anyone who had to buy it. This has got to be the most disapointing game ever for the mighty XBOX. Here's why:
1. The gameplay: it's just uninteresting! You walk around as Bruce Lee from a side view, A SIDE VIEW. You kill people with 2 lame moves (punch and kick) and collect the coins that come after they die. It's so lame and dull, it's LAUGHABLE! It's way to easy, and beating up the people is so dull. 2 lame moves, and all the bad guys look the same. You advance and keep collecting coins. An ametuer gamer could beat this in 1 night!...
2. The graphics = horrible! Oh my goodness, Bruce Lee looks like a girl in tights (which is such an insult to his memory) and all the villains look exactly the same (red ninjas). Oh, and the coins that you get our the size of Bruce's head. The 2 lame moves don't even look real either. I played this game ad beat 3 levels in 10 minutes. I basily fell asleep in my chair. When I woke up, I returned it immediatly!
3. The reputation it tried to take. I mean, come on: Bruce Lee. What kind of people created this game; to insult his memory; this game is HORRIBLE! On the cover, it even went as far as to say it was BETTER than DOA3! I own DOA3, and it is a hundred million times better than this junk.
I hope I've proved to you why u shouldn't buy this game. It is so... easy to beat and so boring at that. I'd rather watch grass grow. There are so many better games to buy for it's price:... If it was about 5 bucks, I might counsider buying it. But for everything else I can get for that price, I guess I'll have to pass...*lol*

Guys, I don't know what you all are smoking, but get off of it quick. This game is horrible, from the opening cinema to the end of the game, if you even bother to suffer through the first three unispired levels of it. The controls are terrible, i could press a kick button sometimes and i wouldnt even get a response. The targeting system is wack, most of the time you'll spend sorting through targets that are 20 feet away, when you have one beating the holy bejeezus out of you right in front of your face. Which brings me to the amazingly cheap A.I. *if it can even be called intelligence* who will frustrate you to no extent by following the same cheap patterns. One behind, one in front, and while you're attempting to hit the enemy in front of you *who is usually ducking!!* the one behind is pummeling you unmercifully. When you try to turn around *which will sometimes take a couple seconds* to try defend yourself, the enemy who was doing the pummeling now runs away like a twelve year old school girl, leaving your back open for more brutal punishment from the other enemy. The graphics are ps1 worthy at best *not even dreamcast standard* doesn't even begin to tap into what xbox can do. I can't bear to even give this game a point *even though I have to give it one star, which I'm not even going to count* because I am a diehard bruce fan, and ronin games is doing nothing but tarnishing his amazing legend by releasing such a crappy, and obviously rushed game. Sorry, but I had to bring it straight and be blunt. This game doesn't even deserve a rental.Best Deals for Bruce Lee: Quest of the Dragon
i am a huge bruce lee fan and when i saw this game at a flea market i just had to have it. i bought the game hoping that it would be worth the $ i paid for it, but unfortunately i was wrong. the first couple of days that you play it are ok, cause you're like "man i'm kicking everybodys butt!!!" but after the 3rd or 4th level it gets boring. i mean really boring. all you do is run a little and you get ambushed by 3-6 guys at one time, which isnt all that bad because it isnt that hard to beat them, but the thing is that after you defeat 1 or 2 another 1 comes out of nowhere. the controls for this game stunk because you could only hit one person at a time, while you're getting your butt whopped. i'm telling you DON'T BUY THIS!!!!! if you really want to play it go out and rent it and you will see how bad it is.Honest reviews on Bruce Lee: Quest of the Dragon
This game isn't all that bad. The graphics are perfect. The character looks just like bruce lee. The major and only problem with this game is the fighting. It's horrible. It makes Bruce look like an entry level fighter, not an dynamic martial arts master. His kicks and punches are not direct like they are in his movies. They should have put more work into this. I'll say if they would have put at least another year into this game I guarantee it would have been the bomb.Find helpful customer reviews and review ratings for Bruce Lee: Quest of the Dragon
The first thing I thought of after 10 minutes of playing this game was playing "Urban Champion" on my old Nintendo system. For those of you who had the pleasure of NEVER playing "Urban Champion", it consisted of you standing on the left-hand side of the screen and punching a guy who stood on the right-hand side of the screen. Granted with this game you get some decent graphics and you can walk around and beat-up people, but beyond that this game hasn't really progressed beyond the 1980s "beat-em-up" games. It's a 2002 Bruce Lee version of "Urban Champion". Basically, you walk around and fight people using Bruce Lee's own fighting style. They went to great lengths to make the fighting styles authentic using motion capture from a guy who studied under Lee for his moves and a bunch of other experts for the bad guys, so the moves and graphics are pretty sweet -but the combos aren't the easiest to learn. But hey, it turns out you don't really need them to beat the game anyway(which should only take a day or so even for the most novice of gamers). A huge disapointment.Thursday, October 30, 2014
Street Fighter IV MadCatz Bundle - PC Review
Street Fighter IV is overall a great game with awesome graphics and great soundtrack. The only unfortunate thing for me is that my PC can't handle the graphics requirement and therefore suffers from periods of extreme lags. So, before you get all excited for the game, check to be sure that your PC has enough power to handle it. Because of this game, I also got introduced to XboxLive/WindowsLive environment you have to connect in order to play it seems... Can't say that I necessarily like it because I'd guess that part of the lag is due to this requirement. Wish I could just play offline.
Anyway, all that aside, 5 stars for this game! The controller is also quite suitable for the game. :)
The ability to choose multiple characters makes this a fun game to play also the controller is nice however to pull off the difficult moves it would be easier with a fight stick. I don't like the d-pad at all have to press really hard to actually pull off the difficult moves. I have not been able to unlock the final two characters yet. I'm also very disappointed that I have to log onto windows live on startup each time. That is a real pain especially since you want to play solo at times without being bothered by this.
I also had problems playing this the first time the DRM of the disc said I didn't have DMA turned on my dvd drive, but I did so I had to turn it on and off again before I was able to play this game.
If you are on a budget I would buy the regular version without the controller and then invest in a good stick for this game.
Except for these minor qualms I am very satisfied with this game its fun and it has lots of eye candy and hidden character to make you not want to put it down. If for whatever reason you get sick of it you can accept challenges and fight anyone. As soon as I turn it on someone always wants to challenge me I don't even have time to blink when the game gets old in a couple of years the challenges will be infrequent so enjoy it now while you can.
The reasons I gave it a 4 is for all those reasons cited above plus it takes about 4 some odd gig of disk space so if you have a small drive be warned I installed this on my Windows 7 test 40 gig partition and I had only 12 gigs and now with the game installed I only have 8 now.
One thing that make this bundle great is the Ryu's fightpad included. Also this game support diferents gamepads. I tried: logitech dual action gamepad and Logitech wireless rumble pad. They work excellent but you have to configure the buttons because it has a different possition that xbox360.
Anyway, all that aside, 5 stars for this game! The controller is also quite suitable for the game. :)

Yes, I like it a lot. Yes, I'm a fanboy. But Who wouldn't it?. Back to the classic Street Fighter with new characters: Rufus, Viper, Abel and Seth. With new movements as: focus attacks (it can absorb one hit and it can do an unbockeable hit, also it can cancell your atack) and Ultra combos (when your revenge bar has a good amount of hit received. you can perfome a special attack). In the PC version has better graphic with AA and AF, also It supports better resolution than its consoles counter part. It uses Games for windows live that it lacks of compatibilities and it has zone restrictions but When I played online I didn't have lag problems. One thing that make this bundle great is the Ryu's fightpad included. This game is pretty fun once you get the hang of it. Most games that come out for a movie are smelly. But this game has stealth and fun technology and some strategy. I don't like splinter cell as much because there is not a lot of stealth when you crouch and I like to knock out everyone in the room without using projectiles. So if you want splinter cell with less "splinter" than get this one.

This game IS impossible. I never made it past the shooting range, where tons of remote guns are shooting at you. Way too hard. I think I'm a decent gamer, I beat Halo. Cheap Nightcaster 2 Equinox
First of all, let me state that I believe Nightcaster II will be one of those rare titles that, in a few years, may be worth quite a bit since many gamers have passed it up and the number of copies for sale in stores is actually quite low. With that said, let's go on to the game.
Reading some of the reviews that other members have posted for NCII, you may be tempted to pass the game up, particularly if you've played the horrendous Nightcaster 1. Now keep in mind that I am a very picky gamer and I also hated NC1, but figuring that Jaleco had time to improve much of what went wrong in the first game, I decided to give NC2 a shot and I was pleasantly surprised! The game is still not perfect, but it does appear that much of what I hated in the first has been addressed, and the style of play is more appealing now.
First off, the graphics are better. The orb gives off realtime shadowing effects to background objects, bump mapping is used, and the overall dark atmosphere helps keep you in suspense. The point of view is still a little claustrophobic, but the camera and orb controls have thankfully gotten better. Melee fighting is now actually a big part of the game and you can string together combos--you actually get fighting-game style bonuses when you kill enemies in combos with weapons/and or magic! The spells are MUCH more useful this time around and far easier to use..some actually home in and auto-target enemies and each spell seems to do a good amount of damage regardless of which character you use, so the endless spell cycling prevalent in the first game is not as necessary now. RPG elements now exist! You can level up and assign attributes to you character, and the levels are massive and better structured, plus the map screen tells you how many enemies are on this particular map as well as how many special items (artifacts) remain. YOU CAN NOW SAVE ANYWHERE AND ANYTIME!! Thankfully, the biggest issue with the first game was the limited saves. Also, 2 players can play cooperatively and you can pick from two different characters for the solo adventure! The adventure seems more cohesive now and I actually found it fun to roam through the maps rooting out every single enemy and item. I like the fact that enemies will not respawn after you've cleared a map.
The production quality is quite good and overall, I found Nightcaster II to be a big improvement and a pleasant surprise. If you can find a copy, buy it. Give it a chance and you may be surprised!
1. you cant change the camera angles
2. the surrounding are very dark, and it is nearly impossible to see what is around you.
3. the controls are TERRIBLE!!! if u like a game where u just press any button u want, this is it.
4.they give u barely any instruction whatsoever on how to play, or what you objectives are. They just throw you in the level and assume you know exaclty what u r supposed to do.

Customer Ratings:
List Price: $19.99

Though most of the game concept was lifted from GTA, it still manages to come up with some original flavor into it, thanks to the unforgettable characters that made The Godfather a classic. Amazingly, the game isn't just a drive around and do missions. It actually leaves you free to walk around and do things that will affect your business as a "made-man" with the Corleone family. Yes, you have to do the missions to keep the story moving but at the same time, you can ignore the missions and just go about doing other things to increase your "business" and contribute to the Corleone family. Take for example what I did in the game. I did about 50% of the missions and I decided to just clean-up Little Italy (where the Corleone family is based) from the Tattaglias; taking over these businesses, their warehouses.
One interesting mode in the game is the "Mob War" mode. This happens when you hit a crime family too much, they eventually declare a mob war with the Corleone family. Only to win a mob war is to either bomb one of their properties or pay an FBI agent to come down hard on the rival family. It's good fun really, and quite different. I usually bomb a place and then head to my apartment and let things calm down a bit. These fresh concepts make this game quite unique in its way.
Speaking of families, you need to wrestle control of NY from all the other rival families. The biggest rival that you'll be pitted against is the Barzini family who owns Manhattan. By the way, the game recreates an almost perfect replica of New York, even the streets are accurate. I know because I'm from NYC. One trick I did to test the accuracy was fifth avenue and madison ave. Fifth avenue is just across Madision ave, which is correct in the game. Canal St. and Mott St. are real streets in NY, with Canal St. being Chinatown today.
Going back to what I am doing now with the game, I've basically knocked out Tattaglia from NY. Only thing left is go to and overrun his family compound. One important tip if you're planning to buy this game. The moment you get about $16,000 in the game, buy yourself the most expensive shoes, suits, hat, and glasses. These accessories give Bonus Respect points on your character. Very important if you want to get that extra boost of respect points to get to the top.
So is this game worth it? Yes definitely. If you are into mobster-themed games, look no further. This is almost almost real-life. By the way, prepare to die a lot in this game. This game is not easy. Be patient and keep buying those safehouses all over NY. This is where you can save your progress and start off in case you get "ICED".
The graphics of the game are very good. The characters look fairly close to the actual actors (with the very notable exception of Michael Corleone) and even the stock characters, while not much in the line of variation, look decent as well. Voice work is excellent and original actors in most cases again with the exception of Michael. Controls are extremely easy to master and the story line draws you in immediately.
You don't have to be a fan of the movie or to have even seen it to follow the game but it certainly helps because you will gain further appreciation for the devotion of the developers. It's obvious that they were huge fans of the film and many of the best remembered scenes show up in the game (the infamous horse head scene, the hospital scene, Sonny getting gunned down at the toll booth, etc.)which really makes the game feel more genuine.
The game is non-linear and you have a huge area to wander around in, taking over businesses and just causing trouble in general. There are specific tasks assigned and hits to carry out but you can really approach the game in any way you choose...be a top negotiator or just gun everyone down within a 2 mile radius. There are film reels scattered about which unlock film clips but they aren't really part of the game, just extras to pick up if you want. The film clips are either actual clips from the movie or from the game itself, some of which contain hints for objectives. You can interact with everyone in the game but only those with the Godfather Puppeteer above their head are the ones with the real value. This makes a big difference in the gameplay as well so you don't waste time searching for the character you need.
I have determined however, that I am one wicked driver. I've plowed down more pedestrians and signposts than I care to admit not to mention the countless cars I've crashed. Hey, I'm the Don so get out of my way.
The only negatives I can think of for the game are as follows:
1) Graphics can be a bit glitchy at times and while the game loads very quickly sometimes it takes the background graphics a while to catch up. Not a huge issue though.
2) Virtually no variation in the rival family compounds. I can live with the bad guys and general public all looking the same but I think they could have at least made some of the compounds look a little different. Some are even identical to the Corleone compound. The stores are all about the same as well. Again, not a huge issue.
3) The font used in the game is so tiny that unless you are literally right on top of the screen you can barely read it. Using a scrolling feature and larger type would have made it more user-friendly. Of course, maybe I'm just going blind or something.
4) A lot of driving around. Drive here, now drive over there. Oops you got gunned down, drive over there again. Maybe if I didn't smash into everything in my path at top speed, it wouldn't be such a pain. Maybe I AM going blind. The Don of NY has apparently turned into Miss Daisy and is in need of a chauffeur.
Well, that about wraps it up. Great game. Definitely a must-have for any fans of the film but non-fans will enjoy it as well. Very violent and even some f-bombs being dropped here and there so certainly not for kids. Rent to try it out because it is a bit pricey but you'll get hooked so you'll end up buying.
This compares to the gameplay of the Grand Theft Auto games
You basically reenact the entire movie going through all of the classic moments
From the horse head in the bed to Micheal coming out of the bathroom and blasting away
You play as your own character in the game not Micheal you build up your rank in the family such as Capo , Underboss, then eventually to the Don of NY
Some missions are timed like in the GTA series but they are not impossible to beat
This game also kind of compares to the freedom fighters game when you are in action shooting at other mobsters
You also can take opposite family businesss in this game shooting your way in the restarunt of barber shop then you need to shake down or beat down the peron running the shop
Also in this game you can bribe police or people gaurding spots you wish to get into you give them some cash they turn there back on the situation
This game is a must for a Godfather fan and if you like ganster games of the GTA games you will love this game this is highly recomended
I was unsure if I should get this game when I asked the guy and he told me its GTA but Iam sure glad I bought it it is well worth $40
Go out and get it what r u waiting for?
The fact that Sonny, Fredo, Tom Hagan, and the Don all look like and sound like James Cann, John Cazale, Robert Duval, and Brando just adds to the amazingness of the game. The fact that Micheal does NOT look or sound like Pacino is almost jarring after the appearance of the other actors. I guess Pacino is too cool to be in a video game. It's especailly distracting as it kinda wrecks the possibilities of GF II or III games.
Well, everything else I would say has been said by others.
Oh! I almost forgot! Luca Brasi is in the game and played by Lenny Montana!!!! He is your mentor and teaches you how to play!
This game is a great game for anyone who can take some gore and violence.

Honest reviews on The Godfather: The Game
First of all, when this game says "Rated M for Mature... 17 and up" they mean it. People getting shot in the face, people talking like sailors, etc.The fact that Sonny, Fredo, Tom Hagan, and the Don all look like and sound like James Cann, John Cazale, Robert Duval, and Brando just adds to the amazingness of the game. Let this be known... I received this controller a week or so after the date promised. It was a Christmas gift and I didn't get it on time so my frustration was pretty high. So why all five stars and why did I put incredible service?? Ill tell you.
I sent them an email and told them of my complaint with as much calmness as I could muster and then that very day or the next day I received an email back from them telling me what was going on and why it had happened and that my shipping cost would be refunded and 10 percent off the actual purchase of the controller would be refunded as well. 15 dollars total. They were excellent. Truth is stuff happens but what really stands out is how bad situations are dealt with and I must say it was dealt with in a professional fashion and I appreciate it completely.
As for the controller itself ...
Awesome ! Haha does what it says it will do and directions are very clear. My wife you doesn't know much about games worked the controller with ease.
Hope this review helps :).
Some of the sub features can be a little confusing but I only played around with it for 20 or so mins.
The only flaw u found is the joysticks can be a little tricky they don't seem to have the same sensitivity as my original controller. It seems to be a little less sensitive. I've gotten use to my other controller and I know how to move it to get everything I want. And it doesn't seem to be as consistent as this.
None the less I know I will just need more practice with the controller and it will be all good.
Final thoughts: if I could go back before I purchased it compared to another make I would have still bought this one :)
The customer service employees are excellent and the answered all my questions and comments promptly.
I spoke with Stephanie and she couldn't have done anything more to make me happy. She's a fantastic employee and I would order from this company again just based on my previous experience with her :)

This product wich I purchased for myself really surprised me from the moment i opened the packaging. Came in a nice product box and easy to navigate and read owners manual. The directions give you a break down of basic 10 setting and there suggested game play. Also has directions for the custom programing wich seem a bit overwhelming at first. Once you get the idea of the basic operations the custom programing part is more easily understood and really not hard at all. The controller feels well made and for the lack of better words...really cool and the lights are pretty. Been using for a few days now and have just barely scratched the surface on the variations of speeds and custom settings. I really am enjoying this controler and am getting more fun out of my gaming with it. Hope this review was helpful.Best Deals for GM Master Mod: Quickscope, Drop shot, Auto-aim, Jitter, Fast

Cheap Xbox 360 Live Vision Camera
Customer Ratings:
List Price: $19.99

This camera is available in two packages this is the basic package and comes with the Xbox 360 Live Vision Camera, a headset that you probably already have, and a code redeemable on the Xbox Live Marketplace for the game UNO (which supports the camera in online play) and also 1 month of Xbox Live Gold service.
The camera itself is a well-designed little unit. You have to set the focus of the camera using the ring around the lens. The quality of video and still pictures taken through the Xbox dashboard is pretty good as long as you're in a reasonably well-lit room. It's a VGA camera (640x480 pixels) so it's not HD. It's easy to install, you just plug it into your Xbox in the front or back USB port and you're good to go, no software update necessary. The camera has a built-in base/stand with a rubber footpad so you can set it next to your TV. You can also use it as a regular webcam with your PC, and as of OSX 10.4.9 onwards it will work as a webcam on any Mac; I use it with Skype on my older iBook and it works great.
Overall it's a nice little add-on for your Xbox. Video chat is a nice feature if you have friends or family with an Xbox 360. There are a few games that support using the camera to map your face onto your on-screen character, which is fun. Games like Totemball are be played by actually moving your arms around in front of the camera so it does open up a lot of opportunities for new experiences with your Xbox.
For parents worried about their kids using this: when playing camera-enabled games you will see other people's video stream whether you have the camera or not, so buying this camera doesn't make any difference to what you will see. In your account preferences you can enable or disable sending or receiving video for any game.
The quality is decent and it's very small. Not a ton of extra features, but it works right out of the box without any other software. That is far better than lots of bells and whistles that only work OK.
I don't own an xBox and can't speak to how this camera is for that, but it's a great camera to use with my computer and far cheaper (and better) than most aftermarket webcams.
Right now, I'd say it's not worth a whole lot. As of October 9, 2006, it only has three functions. You can use it on Uno, Totemball, Billiard Games and for video chat with friends on Xbox Live. Additionally, you plug it up into your Windows PC and use it as a web cam.
However, if you're getting this for your Xbox360 (which you probably are), I say wait until there's a good reason to buy it. Totemball is an absolutely terrible game, and unless you want to people to see you while you're playing Uno, there's not much point in getting it yet.
I say hold off until it's functional with a few more games before rushing out and getting it. It's definitely nice to have, and anyone wanting to get the most out of their 360 should check it out, but it's just not too important just yet.
EDIT: As of June 2007, the camera is functional with a few titles. The most notable is Command and Conquer 3, in which you can view your opponent's face when you obliterate their army. It is a nice touch to the game. Still not entirely necessary for the Xbox 360, but nice to have nonetheless.
Focus is manual (unlike the iSight, which has powered focusing and can be set to autofocus mode). The picture quality is excellent, very sharp and low light sensitivity perfectly adequate.
A green light ring illuminates around the base of the lens to warn you that the camera is on.
A perfect, inexpensive way to give your older Mac, Mac mini or MacPro video conferencing capability.
Also in the box: a mono headset with mike for XBox. Unfortunately, the connector is just non-standard enough that it only works on XBox, but it's an extra toy for the same price.
All in all, great value for Mac users!
Believe it or not, it works like a charm. Just as he said it would, I took it out of the box, plugged it in, opened iChat and I had a working webcam. Easy. I had no idea about this Xbox 360 camera working with my iBook G4 so perfectly. Just thought I'd let you Xbox 360ers know that this camera is a great alternative to buying an all new MacBook if you're still using a computer that doesn't have a built in webcam.

Monster Hunter Tri - Standard Reviews
Customer Ratings:
List Price: $19.99

Today's Bonus: 10% Off

After spending nearly eight hours on this game in a single day/night, I can definitely say that I'm helplessly hooked. I tried a little bit of everything and thus far my opinion of Monster Hunter Tri is extremely positive with only a few minor issues.
GRAPHICS: Wow. The first thought that shot through my mind was "this is beautiful!" Graphically the game feels a bit low-res on my 42" TV, but the art style and quality pretty much make up for that in spades. The environments are lush with details and beautiful colors. The details on weapons, armor, monster and dinosaur models are excellent and have definitely whetted my appetite for more. Human NPCs are kind of weird and awkward looking, but you'll quickly forget how bad they look when you see the monsters in action. The monsters are beautiful, varied, and a joy a to look at and watch. The animations on the many of the enemies are stunning, fluid, and you can't help but appreciate the effort put forth to bring these creatures to life.
GAMEPLAY: Both online and offline the game consists of hack-n-slash missions to go hunt gigantic monsters. There are some fetch quest missions as well, but most of the time the missions are very similar to what you would find in a game like World of Warcraft or other similar online offerings. The game has an exceptionally heavy emphasis on combat with minimal story getting in the way of the action. Combat can be either fast-paced or slow and deliberate depending on your personal style and choice of weapon. The combo system is limited but effective and each of the 7 weapon types has its own distinct style, advantages, and disadvantages. It may sound repetitive, but the driving force of the game is seeing what the next hunt will behold. Some of the boss battles, even early on, are simply breathtakingly awesome. When you kill a boss, even at the lower levels of the game, you will feel a sense of accomplishment.
Throughout the game you will level up your equipment, which is very important because your character actually doesn't level up. While your skill in combat is very important in this game, you won't get anywhere if you don't make sure you get the best armor and weapons available. Loot is king, and you will spend a lot of time hunting for the right components to craft the next big awesome weapon or armor upgrade. As you upgrade your weapons and armor you will see an amazing amount of customization in your character appearance, but more importantly you'll also see an amazing difference in your combat performance. When it comes down to it, this game is hard. Casual gamers will likely be turned off by the difficulty and depth of this game, but those looking for a deep and engaging action RPG experience need look no further.
DESIGN: Level designs are varied and gorgeous. I have only seen a handful of the sections of the game and can confidently say that the levls and maps are awesome. Environments are varied and in many cases the environments play a key role in your hunting strategy, influencing the weapons and equipment you choose to bring with you as well as your basic battlefield strategies. My only real complaint is that you will see a lot of load screens as you pass between zones. Luckily, these load screens are blessedly short (2 to 5 seconds usually) and don't ruin the gameplay experience, but the issue really does interfere with the immersion factor.
CONTROLS (when using Classic Controller): Controls are solid, as long as you use the classic controller. While more complicated than many games, the controls are responsive and the button layout is pretty good for the most part. Once you get past the slightly steep learning curve, the controls will become second nature. The swimming controls were actually better than I expected. My only major complaint about the controls I find it is too easy to accidentally use a potion or healing item because the same exact button is used to sheath your weapon. I drink a lot of potions on accident because of this issue, but on the plus side my characters are usually pretty healthy!
CONTROLS (when using a Wii Remote and Nunchuck): Oh. My. God. Who thought these controls were a good idea? Seriously, I don't think I have played a Wii game with more complicated and unusable controls than this. Different actions depend on whether or not the controller is twisted left or right, but you are still swinging the remote around, and button mappings are inconvenient and change depending on the context of your situation. It's a mess. My advice to anyone wanting to play this game, buy a Classic Controller.
SINGLE-PLAYER MODE: Single player mode is very solid, but very challenging. A storyline is present, but most people will probably find it forgettable. Really, it comes down to finding loot, hunting awesome monsters, and making cool weapons out the body parts of those monsters.
SPLIT-SCREEN ARENA MODE: This is pretty decent and my roommate and I dove into this for a little while. We found it enjoyable but the experience is fairly limited, consisting only of boss battles within a single arena with a pre-set selection of equipment. You can gain some pretty nice rewards within arena mode and it's a decent way of introducing a friend to the game. Compared to online multi-player or the single-player modes, split-screen doesn't hold a candle.
ONLINE EXPERIENCE: Getting into the online experience takes some getting used to, but this is truly the best part of the game. I would favorably compare this to Phantasy Star Online, except this is so much better on nearly every level. I do question the wisdom of the "Server -> City Gate -> City -> Quest" structure, which takes a bit of getting used to, but it does work. Without coordination and communication between other players, it is a little too easy for a newbie player to accidentally start questing alone when the real intent was to joining together for a quest. Once you learn how to navigate the online world, finding a group of people to play with is fairly easy. The game supports Wii Speak for online chat, but most players don't seem to have that peripheral at the time of this writing. I didn't experience any lag at all while playing, and once I intentionally joined a server that had the highest number of users just to see how well it performed. I was pleasantly surprised.
The player community seemed nice enough and of the small handful of people I've played with most were either helpful, polite, or silent. Chatting with your group will be important, but virtual keyboard in the game is a bit clumsy, as is the case with every virtual keyboard I have ever used. I plugged a spare Apple USB keyboard into my Wii and found that it worked perfectly and made communication much better. If you don't have Wii Speak, at the very least find a spare USB keyboard and plug it in, preferably one that uses a wireless dongle. So far I've only met one rude person with a higher level character that talked trash on me for being new to the game, but muting those people is simple. That elitist, high-and-mighty, God's gift to gaming has been permanently added to my banned players list and I'll never hear from him ever again. Problem solved. The internet can definitely do without people like that. Overall I would say that my online experience, while slow to get rolling, has been largely positive. I expect to probably spend well over 100 hours playing online with this game, possibly more.
PROS:
+++ Gorgeous graphics
+++ A hard-core loot-based action-RPG experience that quickly offers difficult challenges. Not for the faint of heart. This game will challenge you.
+++ Online 4-player cooperative monster hunting gives you the chance to share some truly awesome battles with others.
+++ Voice chat. Online play allows the use of the Wii Speak peripheral to allow players to communicate between eachother.
+++ Keyboard support. Plugging a standard USB keyboard into the Wii will allow you to chat easier with other players.
+++ Lagless online play. I was completely shocked by the lack of lag when I played online. I may just be lucky though.
+++ Online play does not require Friend Codes in order to communicate with other players.
+++ Initial character creation and customization is fairly deep, allowing a wide range of physical characteristics.
+++ Amazing enemy models and animation, full of detail and amazingly fluid.
+++ Arena Mode, a limited but decent split-screen multi-player boss challenge experience is included.
CONS:
--Steep learning curve that may scare away more casual gamers.
--Repetive mission designs, much in the same vein as World of Warcraft, Phantasy Star Online, etc. Go here, kill that, collect this, complete mission, get next mission.
--The controls when using the Wii Remote and Nunchuck are so awkward and complicated that they are almost worthless. In my opinion, this game is really only playable if you use a Classic Controller or Classic Controller Pro.
--Frequent screen load times, but thankfully the load times I experience are usually less than 4 seconds.
--Although voice chat is supported it is hard to find players with voice chat enabled.
--NPC animations and character models are fairly stiff and awkward
--NPC dialogue is pretty bad. At its best it is humorously awkward and annoying at its worst.
--Online play is a little confusing at first because of the "Server -> City Gate-> City-> Quest" structure.
Releasing a deep, engaging, and time consuming game like this right at the beginning of summer is just cruel. I know I'll be torn between playing this game and hitting the great outdoors. I have a few (mostly minor) complaints about the game, but most of them truly are nothing more than minor annoyances and blemishes on an otherwise amazing game. Graphically and artistically this game is amazing and the gameplay is hard and challenging but amazingly rewarding at the same time. Taking down boss monsters, either alone or in a group, always gives a sense of achievement and leaves me craving the next hunt. When it comes down to it, this is a good solo experience packaged in with a great online experience. Fans of Phantasy Star Online, Diablo, or Borderlands should definitely check this game out since this game shares much of the same emphasis on finding loot to customize your character with.
This game hearkens back to older style RPGs. focusing more on development of a character then a linear story. In this game you are a new hunter recently arrived at a village with a problem. You work to gain the trust of the villagers and eventually save them.
This, however, does not cover the scope of the game. Challenging combat, many interesting weapons to learn and master, and a system of gathering and crafting that allow you to develop and upgrade your weapons lend a long game life to this title. The game has an ecosystem that very nearly feels real as you explore it.
And all of this is included in a game with up to 4 player cooperative play, allowing further depth and exploration with friends or strangers. Battles take on a whole new dimension as you work with your friends, and you can face even beasts of greater grandeur with a party.
My only minor niggling concern is that while the game states that it can be played with the classic controller or the wii-mote, I found the controls with the wii-mote to be obtuse at best. This may vary with other users, but I would recommend at least having a classic controller on hand.
This title will allow you to explore a very nearly breathing world, fight gigantic creatures in titanic clashes, and indulge in a classic and primal struggle as a hunter of monsters. This is adventure gaming at its core, with solid game play not be overlooked either by fans or newcomers to this genre.
The basic premise of the game is that you are a hunter, you take jobs and quests provided by the guild to help out the locals. This usually involves either gathering something or hunting down a big nasty man eating behemoth intent on tearing out your entrails. It's not as graphic as all that but there is blood. The game is a bit different depending on if you play the single player or the online modes. The single player has you helping out the people of Moga Village after an earthquake rocks their floating sea shanty and the local fauna start acting up. The flagship monster is the Lagiacrus, the big blue dragon thing on the front cover. Apparently it decided to move into the area and has been making the villagers even more miserable. Most of your early quests involve becoming a bad enough dude/girl to go and kill the thing. Also in Offline is Cha-Cha, a little imp like helper that is part side kick, part tribal comedian and all parts monster bait. Seriously, the most useful aspect of this little guy is that he often distracts the monster's attention away from you so you can get more hits in on it. Speaking of monsters...
The game has around a dozen 'minion' type critters; pretty much just animals that can be found in groups throughout each region. Unlike other games there is no 'champion level' type of one of these things but online play increases the health of all targets since generally you are playing with friends while online and the rewards are tend to be higher of course. Then there are of course the main monsters themselves. To give the idea that each region is rather organic in nature, you never see the health bar of the creatures you're hunting and if you've hunted the creature before it will sometimes pop up during any quest in the area both offline and online. These are the true marks for you in terms of goals, most of your time is taken by either fighting, tracking or preparing for a showdown with one of these beasts. Each one is unique and requires some attention in learning how they tick. Going in like Leeroy Jenkins (spaz that charges blindly into the enemy with no strategy) is more than likely to get you killed and you'll be taking a ride on the kitty cart back to base. By that I mean some cat people (Felynes) load your butt on a wooden cart and unceremoniously drop you at the general start location for each region which is something of a rest area for you as well as a drop-off and supply station.
Upon a successful hunt you can expect more items, stuff that you have literally carved from the creature's body (usually around three times) and other items given to you on the reward screen. You then use these items to usually do one of two things, make armor or make weapons. As to be expected, there are sets of armor you can create that not only give you much needed defense but also handy skills that generally make your hunting a lot easier in one way or the other. Armor is divided into two types, blademaster and gunner. Gunner armor is for ranged weaponry with more elemental resistances and melee weapon users use the more defense heavy blademaster sets. There are cosmetic differences so you can tell the two kinds appart even within the same set. Weapons come in the form of either a Sword and Shield, Great Sword, Hammer, Lance, Long Sword, the new Switch Axe and three different weight classes of Bow Guns. Each one handles differently and comes with its own unique perks. For beginners I reccomend the Sword and Shield simply because its the most well rounded and mobile of the weapons to use and later on has plenty of uses. Weapons can also have various elements attached to them. Those being Fire, Ice, Water, Lightning, and Dragon. Then there are three status elements which are Sleep, Paralyze and Poison. Most higher end weapons deal one of these kinds of damage or inflict one of the status elements so the usual RPG style strategies can be used to some effect in this game.
Basic play is very action oriented, not in the platforming sense but in the running around, fighting local wildlife and collecting materials sense. If you can interact with the enviroment in some way it will have a red arrow icon which usually leads to climbing. Question marks are carving or collecting spots and exclaimation points generally occur over a monster's head when it spots you. You can crouch, roll and weapon permitting block. Running requires holding the 'R1' on the classic controller. The game can be played with either the Wiimote or the new classic controller which I reccomend for more precise movement and generally lesser level of frustration as some attacks with the Wiimote require twisting and as with other Wii games can lead to the player not doing the movement they intended. I must warn that there is no auto targeting fairy for you to rely on in this game. You have to align your character and gauge the distance of your attacks on your own. Bow Gun users do get two aiming modes to switch into but you can't move while doing this. This game plays in third person for the most part, the camera can be realigned behind the character with a simple tap of the correct button and it can be rotated with the right joy stick on the classic controller. The character isn't as mobile as oh say....Kratos from God of War but your character does have plenty of options where it counts and unless you get trapped in a corner by a monster it's unlikely you'll miss jumping all that much though it would be nice. In Tri swimming has been implimented so if you see a body of water that's deep enough you can dive right in. Movement is pretty typical for water based enviroments, there is a water version of the dodge which is useful, you get an oxygen bar which can be replenished via the bubble streams scattered sporadically along the bottom of all water areas. Water battles are a bit different than land battles and some monsters are at their most dangerous in the omni directional enviroment so it takes some practice.
All said and done, there is a reason Monster Hunter is so popular in Japan. It combines the right amount of RPG elements with the right amount of Action elements in a fairly organic enviroment. It reminds me alot of 'Shadow of the Colossus' in that its usually you out in a big organic world that you can interact with. The difference being in Monster Hunter the boss monsters aren't the only thing out there and they DON'T stay put in one spot. You may even find yourself fighting two of them at the same time if they both migrated to the same spot. You get a similar feeling of appreciation for taking down one of them by yourself though its safer and potentially more fun with friends. Now as I mentioned at the beginning, this is not a game you just pick up and plough through in an afternoon. It starts off slow at first, you have to earn your teeth so to speak in this game. Once you start building up your inventory, figuring out how the monsters work and amassing a versatile arsenal of armor and weaponry then that's when Monster Hunter really comes into its own and the real fun starts. You just have to have the paitence to work toward that fun. Not for everyone but for those that stick with the game it rewards them plenty.
And it always feels like you're doing the quest for a reason. You always need more materials so it makes it so rewarding when you beat a boss, and carve him up for materials to make new weapons, armor, and items. And with all the customization you will spend a lot of time mixing and matching armors for the best combinations to fight certain creatures.
The enemies are tough, but stick with it, learn their moves, and be patient, and before you know it it's lying dead at your feet. The level of excitement you feel, for a boss that took over a half hour and almost killed you numerous times, is amazing. Also, it takes much preparation. Fighting a thunder based creature in the desert? You will need cool drinks for stamina, thunder protection, and all sorts of healing items, bombs, traps, tranquilizers. You will soon learn that taking your time and being prepared cuts the steep difficulty level down.
This is my favorite MMORPG. That is something that a lot of people would argue, especially World of Warcraft's rabid fan base. But even though it's not as deep as WoW, the combat is so much more exciting then the typical right click of PC based MMORPGs. Get this game if you like great RPGs, with amazing battle systems.. or just get it if you love an extremely well put together game that will challenge you, and keep you playing for hours. I can't rave enough about this game. BUY IT!

Ok so I play games like Super Smash Brothers, Mario Kart Wii, New Super Mario Brothers Wii, Super Mario Galaxy...I mean you get the picture! Then I went outside my confort zone and grabbed this game...HOLY CRAP DUDE THIS GAME IS AWESOME! I got the we cause I have a wife and a couple kids so I thought it would be good for the family and it is but as my little girl calls..."this is daddy's game." I get home from work kiss the wife hug the kids roll to the man cave and power up the Wii. This game is so deep. If you think about it there are 3 different ways to play this game first you have the main game which is loaded with all these quest and monsters. Then you got a 2 player offline mode. Havin really messed with this but anything you do in this game is not in vain. You get rewarded for everything you. Then the online is truly awesome as well. I was in a group with 2 more people and explained to them that I was new and the were really cool about it. Teaching me the ropes. Man, we must have been on line for about 3 to 4 hours together. Now they are on my friend list and I see them almost all the time. Pretty cool talking about what new armor we got and how crazy our swords look. Glad to finally get close to the same online experience as the Xbox and PS3 owners thank you Capcom.Honest reviews on Monster Hunter Tri - Standard
I'll say right now that Monster Hunter Tri is not a game you just pick up and beat in a couple hours. It's not a game you even beat in a couple weeks. Tri combines a lot of the joys of MMO's without deliberately punishing you for going it solo. Items you obtain in the game are usually gathered from the various hunting grounds and combined into gradually more sophisticated items. Take a potion for example, to make one you combine a blue mushroom and a herb together. Throw a piece of honey on top of that and you get a Mega Potion. It's a pretty alchemical process that leads to players often filling the item box in their room like it was a warehouse. These items come in all shapes and sizes from mineral ores you mined yourself to bugs to various plants. This isn't the hallmark of this game though, no far from it. Like the title suggests, you're there to hunt monsters and this franchise delivers like none other. The basic premise of the game is that you are a hunter, you take jobs and quests provided by the guild to help out the locals.

Not since World of Warcraft has a game had me this hooked. I've put in 75 hours in 3 weeks, that's with a full time job and responsibilities at home. Mostly because of the intensely addictive online mode. My brother, cousin, and I spend hours at a time running one mission after another. Because unlike a lot of RPGs it is always intense. Even after you get to know a boss, if you let your guard down you will pay for it. And the controls, which seem to get a lot of criticism, are great. They never hand you anything. No auto aim, help in any way, but if you master them it makes it all the more rewarding.
BUY IT!

Buy Corsair CA-HS1ANA Gaming Audio Series HS1 Analog Gaming Headset
I've worked in studios and have demo'd TONS of audio gear over the years. I know what a good DAC (Digita-Analogue Converter) sounds like, and I know what a crappy one sounds like. Music is probably the hardest source material to be objective about when it comes to the listening experience -everyone has their opinion, but almost nobody but studio rats really "get it" in terms of true flat response. Do these have perfect response? No. It's just not hyped sound -there's no built in "smiley face" EQ or any nonsense coloring the sound. Well, actually, there is, but it's made to flatten the output as well as it can -and it does. People complain about "harsh highs" listening to music with this headset...THEIR SOURCE MATERIAL IS LOW QUALITY! Of COURSE an over-compressed MP3 file is going to sound TERRIBLE on any halfway decent DAC. Throw in a good recording of something recently done on a CD or something of equal quality (nice M4A at 256kbps or equivalent) and you're golden.
That's just music. I mention this first because that was my ONLY CONCERN buying this unit. I read review after review of "harsh highs" and "not enough bass" which makes me sick. The bass is there, it's just instead of anything past 500hz was normally smeared all down the spectrum making it indiscernible from the rest of the noise your noggin was bogged down with all these years.
The problem I have with this headset is all that dolby headphone simulation stuff sounds HORRID. Any time you turn it on its like it takes the beautiful bits sound and turns them into bigger, less precise blocks of noise. Yes, it DOES sound like its in a bigger room, or directionally correct based on how you set it, it just sounds horrible. Leave it on 5.1 or 7.1 surround with none of those buttons turned on and it sounds GREAT! Even for stereo source material -it just processes it better. Another thing you definitely want to do is go into your sound settings and set it to 24 bit audio 96khz output -the converter is actually decent at these rates.
The mic does a decent job of filtering out noises without putting a hard and fast reducer algorithm so it still sounds natural, and you can hear noise in the room, its just lower. You can set that to 16bit 48khz, as well.
Theres TONS of volume on this thing -just keep it at a reasonable level and it'll treat you right. Use the mixer on windows 7 to your advantage. Set the output on the programs (itunes, skype, video games) to max (or close to it) and mix the sound in using the control panel -definitely the way to go.
I could go on (as you can tell), but suffice it to say, this is worth at least double the price in terms of usefulness, it doesn't seem like it will ever break, the audio is WONDERFUL (but you won't be used to its precision if you've never taken audio seriously before).
To the reviewer who said this was not for audio purists, I submit it ONLY suitable to audio purists, and to those not afraid to venture deeper into the audio world for extracurricular activities.
This is a great one-stop-shop for a laptop audio solution.
Windows 7 64bit, btw.
I was on the mission to find a do-all headphone. Quite impossible to do as I own many headphones. I have Bose noise canceling, Sure In-Ear, Grado's, Sony's and more. After reading tons of reviews, and very few reviews on the Corsairs it was a difficult choice. The main draw to the corsairs was the fact that corsair designed these headphones specifically for gaming and music listening. Go visit their website and watch their video. It is quite convincing... So I took the gamble and went for them.
** For Music **
When first installing them and listening I was quite disappointed... But wait!
Duh... mixer. What a world of a difference. And mind you that the mixer alone must be adjusted for all kinds of music.
If you just set it to one setting and listen to all sorts of genre's then you are in for bad listening.
-Windows 7 --
Go into your settings:
Hardware => Sound => Adjust system volume => Advanced Tab
Change it to 24bit 96000Hz
After you do that go into your Corsair mixer.
Main Tab:
System Input Change it the Eight Channels (7.1)
DSP Mode Click on Dolby & 7.1
Effect Tab:
This tab you will have to adjust to your liking. Even those pre-made music styles did not suit me.
Anyhow that should get you started on a much better sounding headphone. This is obviously for music.
** For Gaming **
I'm your typical FPS, L4D2, Starcraft/WoW gamer.
These headphones are quite nice for them. First of all comfort was my top priority. I have an old set of headphones that the plastic-leather became brittle and cracked off. Corsairs don't have this problem.
First of all they have felt padding that is replaceable (yes you can order them and buy more). That is a huge plus because of course they will eventually wear out and you don't want to buy new headphones just because of that. They do not get hot nor do they get that sweaty feel with p-leather.
Secondly they have memory foam. Yes just like those pillows or beds. What genius thought of this? Our heads are all different in shapes and sizes. Memory foam makes total sense and keeps it comfortable.
Finally the headphones are huge so they wrap around big ears... 50mm drivers are bigger than most. If you have dumbo ears you need these. Enough said.
The mic is great and I like how I can raise it up when I don't want to use it.
Aesthetically these are not the most beautiful headphones... but I always prefer design and function over looks.
Finally these will not replace your Grado's, but sure enough you can wear them longer and if you only want to buy 1 headset for gaming/music then these work great.
Be aware USB = no ipod.
However USB = Win for using with a computer.
The Pros:
I immediately noticed how comfortable the Corsair headphones are to wear. The tension isn't too tight, and the velvet covered ear pieces are very soft. They wear snug enough to do a good job isolating the audio but do not feel too tight like many other noise isolating headphones. These can easily be worn for hours on end this is not something I can do with my Audio Technica's or the American Audio's.
Sound quality is very, very good for this price range of headphone. I was impressed with how honest the playback was on my reference tracks with all settings baselined. Recording aside, I found the control panel and it's variety of spacial and EQ settings very cool. The mixer section allows you to mix in from 3 sources Wave, Software Synth, and CD Player. This is incredibly useful if you want to listen to your own music while playing your video game you can mix in the desired level between the two sources. The environment settings (reverbs/delays) range from rooms to arenas to very extreme. The "auditorium" and "forest" were my favorite settings for adding a "live" sound to music. The settings do a good job of dividing up a stereo signal into a much more lively and spacial experience. I found the 10 band EQ to be quite good there are 11 useful presets, or you can adjust to your liking and save your settings. The EQ has an enormous impact; even the slightest modifications are very noticeable. I found this useful for mixing the audio against the game I was playing so the music could sit in the mix without covering up the sound effects from the game.
The Cons:
The only `con' I can really find is that these are only USB headphones and lack an option or adaptor for a 1/8" or 1/4" inch plug. These obviously are designed for users gaming on a computer so it might not be a fair comparison, but I wish I had the flexibility to use these on my iPhone or to plug into my receiver or mixing console.
Overall these are incredibly flexible, great sounding, and comfortable wearing headphones. The audio control panel is a bonus in my opinion, and set these apart from all my other headphones.
PROS:
Super comfortable
Great sound quality
User-replaceable ear pads
Long, tangle-proof cable
Great value
Good mic
2 year warranty
CONS:
Lacks some bass
A bit heavy
COMFORT
I spend a great deal of time with headphones on, whether I'm listening to music while writing reviews, watching movies on Netflix, or playing games. Not only do headphones provide a better listening experience, but they also allow me to enjoy all those activities at night, when my family is asleep. Therefore, comfort, is the most important characteristic for me. My head size is probably slightly smaller than average so if a pair of headphones are really tight on my head, chances are, they'll be really tight on an average person. My favorite pair of headphones, by far, is the Sennheiser HD 555's. They're better for music than movies or gaming, but I've yet to find another pair of headphones or headsets that match their comfort. That is, until I slipped on the Corsair HS1/HS1A. Their memory foam ear pads are like pillows over my ears. I spent hours listening to them with very little discomfort. The large ear cups easily surrounded my ears. The padding on the headband are nice and cushy and the headset did not grip my head like a vise. In fact, they were slightly loose. If you've ever tried on a pair of Sennheiser HD 280 Pro headphones, the Corsair HS1/HS1A's in comparison will feel like you aren't wearing anything at all. The only problem I had in regards to comfort was that they would occasionally slide around my head a bit whenever I looked up or down, due to the weight and loose grip. Regardless, believe me when I say that with the HS1/HS1A, you no longer have to sacrifice comfort for sound quality.
SOUND QUALITY
I found both the HS1 and HS1A to have very good sound quality for the price. It won't replace my HD 555's or Etymotic ER-4PT's for accuracy, but the HS1/HS1A's are more versatile and cost loads less. In stereo, both the HS1 and HS1A sounded very good, with forward vocals and clear highs. It did lack some bass though, so bass-heads should move along. Even adjusting the EQ didn't help much with the bass. On the HS1A, changing out the ear pads to the synthetic leather ones seemed to help a little bit just by way of creating a better seal. Of course, the HS1's only come with the memory foam ear pads so there's no help there. For music, I tested both headsets with FLAC audio files, Pandora streaming audio and LAME VBR MP3 files.
I tested movies with Netflix streaming and DVDs. The HS1 sounded great with Dolby Headphone 5.1 surround sound (supports 7.1 as well). I was able to make the analog HS1A sound just a good by using my Asus Xonar DX soundcard, which provides Dolby Headphone support on the card itself. I really appreciated the clear dialogue in the films I watched. Sound effects were great and directional effects were spot on. Again, due to the lack of bass, some of the more bassy explosion-type effects didn't come through as well, but I only noticed because I was listening for them critically.
Playing F.E.A.R. 2 with the HS1/HS1A gave me nightmares two nights in a row. No, seriously; they were really bad nightmares. With Dolby Headphone on, the directional effects gave me some serious goose bumps. The HS1/HS1A also reproduced the gunfire terrifically. I could clearly hear the bullet shells hitting the ground. StarCraft 2 was also a joy to play.
The only real issue I had with sound was with volume on the analog HS1A. Though the HS1 and HS1A have identical sound specs, my Asus Xonar DX could not drive the HS1A's as well as I expected them to. I got them pretty loud, but there were times I wished I could get another 15-20% more. A higher end card with a better headphone amp may have done better.
MIC
I had no problems with the mic on the HS1/HS1A at all. I tested it primarily with Skype and with some audio dubbing of video projects. I could hear some slight background noise in my recordings, but certainly passable for my purposes and for gaming. I appreciated that the mic folded out of the way when I didn't need it.
BUILD & DESIGN
Both the HS1 and HS1A use 50mm drivers, which are bigger than the norm and probably contributed to the slightly heavy build. The entire headset is made out of plastic, less the headband. The headband is cushioned well and is covered in a soft, synthetic leather material. The single-sided cord is on the left ear cup and is about 10 feet in length. It is braided to prevent tangles and includes an attached velcro cable wrap. Both headsets have a wired remote about a third of the way down the cable from the ear cup. The HS1's remote is very cool. You can control the volume via separate volume up and volume down buttons. There is also a mic mute button and the volume buttons are surrounded by blue lights. At night, it makes it very easy to find. When you activate the mic mute, the light switches to red. The HS1A has a standard fare volume dial and mic mute switch. Other than the remote and difference in cable ends (USB vs. 3.5mm jack), the only way to tell the difference between the HS1 and HS1A is the color of the ear cups. The HS1 ear cups are silver and the HS1A ear cups are black. I found the overall build quality of the HS1/HS1A to be very good--typical of Corsair. They even warranty the headsets for 2 years for good measure.
HS1 or HS1A?
I personally prefer the HS1 because of the built-in Dolby Headphone support. The built-in sound card essentially guarantees me consistent sound quality across any Windows PC. It's slightly more expensive than the HS1A but by less than $20 at most retailers. Also, my Asus Xonar DX soundcard doesn't autodetect headphones and requires me to select my output manually. This is a pain, but by using the USB HS1, I can just unplug it to listen to my speakers or plug the HS1 back in to listen to the headset. I recommend the analog HS1A to those users who have invested heavily in their PC sound with high-end audio cards like the Xonar Essence, that have outstanding headphone amps and have Dolby Headphone support on the card itself. If I'd spent $300 on an audio card, I'd probably want to use them too. It makes sense that Corsair answered the call of enthusiast consumers by releasing the HS1A. Woo!
CONCLUSION
The Corsair HS1 and HS1A gaming headsets are terrific buys. They have an incredible balance of comfort and sound quality. For everyday music listening, movie watching and gaming, I can't imagine a better headset to own. Audio enthusiasts who invested in high-end sound cards will appreciate the analog HS1A. Everyone else will enjoy the versatility and consistent sound quality of the HS1.

I compared the Corsair HS1NA headphones against my Audio Technica ATH-M45 and a pair of American Audio HP 550's. I primarily use these as headphones and did not thoroughly test the microphone capabilities. The Pros:

I won't speak much about the quality of the headset, comfort, etc because it is already well covered by the other reviews, which I am in full agreement. However, I have encountered some problems with the headset after approximately a month of using it. I'm not one to mistreat my equipment, so I was surprised when my headphone's sound quality suddenly fell. Now, when I tilt the headset a certain direction (up or down), the bass disappears (i think, something certainly gets messed up), and it sounds like the music is coming from a different room. Now I'm RMAing it back to get it replaced, and I'm slightly disappointed that it lasted for such a short period of time. I just hope that the next one lasts longer, because I throughly enjoy these headphones (while they last.) Despite this, I still give it 4 stars because it is such a superb microphone (and corsair customer support and replacement is generally reliable).Saturday, May 3, 2014
Review of Phantasy Star Online, Episode I & II
In April Microsoft cut off Xbox live for the original Xbox and this game can't be played on the 360 (yet). This game is completely useless, you can't even play offline unless you have an Xbox live account (which you can't anymore).
This game is probably really fun but Microsoft destroyed it and it can no longer be played :( What a disappointment.
To start with, this can be played like a single player RPG. You can choose to be human, newman, or a robot. You can be male or female, and of three classes the 'hunter' swordfighter, the 'ranger' distance fighter, or the 'force' magic users. You've just begun to customize!
You can customize everything from face look, hair style and color, outfit, skin color, and body proportions. You can't actually choose clothing styles like in many other RPGs you just change the color and look of it. Still, your character is pretty tweaked to your own style before you enter the world.
The aim in local play is to build up your character. You can play in "Episode 1" where you roam the planet looking for clues as to what happened to the original colonists. You can also play "Episode 2" which is sort of a parallel timeline, where you work for the government and try to contact a hero from the original colony.
Like most RPGs, you build up experience by killing the enemies, and gather money ("meseta") so you can buy bigger weapons ... so you can go kill bigger things. You have a little robotic buddy, "mag", which also gains experience and power as you go.
Once you've gotten the hang of things, it's time to head on line and join up with a party! This is sort of a mini-MMORPG, a training ground for those not quite online yet. You go through the lobbies to find a group of people to play with. You can start a new group or join a group already questing. And then it gets fun!
The XBox live microphone makes it easy to coordinate attacks without the clumsy typing-while-fighting system that most MMORPGs require. Simply call out "I'm hurt!" to get healing, and coordinate attacks with ease. Since XBox Live is only for high speed connections, we haven't run into any lag while playing. Gather up experience, explore new worlds, and make fun friends in the process!
Highly recommended for XBox RPG fans who enjoy console-based RPGs and want to take it to the next level.
I'm sure by now you have heard all about the money that will be needed to play, online or off. But if you are like me, you will do anything to play this game again. I dont currently have a highspeed connection to play online, but i am getting one soon. If there is no way you can get a high speed connection to play online, I say pass, because honestly, the game itself is not worth both the combined purchase price of the X-box live starter kit and the game:$... But if you are even considering getting a high-speed connection some time in the near future, pick this one up fast. This is going to be a special online community that will last a very long time to come. See you online (in about a month when i finally get DSL)
When this game came out, it required an Xbox Live account. This wouldn't be a problem, except that Live for the original Xbox is gone. And unlike the Dreamcast and GameCube versions, you HAVE to be connected to Live to even boot up the disc to the main menu. Even offline play requires a connection!
And when it WAS working, you'd be paying around $170 a year to play online, combining the cost of Live in the first place and the purchase of a $10/month license.
Yes, there are workarounds, but most involve a modchip or require you to have a "Linux box". The only one which works at all needs an old XBL account on a memory card or the hard drive itself, which are becoming increasingly hard to find considering that no new accounts can be created.
I was wondering why the Xbox version of this game was so cheap, and now I know. Thanks to some very poor marketing and design decisions by both Microsoft and Sega, this game is literally impossible to play for about 99% of Xbox users. It isn't even compatible at all with the Xbox 360!
Please, unless you KNOW you'll be able to play this, spend the extra dough and get the GameCube version (or the Dreamcast, if you don't care about splitscreen and Episode II). This is almost worthless even to collectors.
Now the down side and a little history why Live is required.
A Live account (good or expired) is needed just to play the game. Now the front cover of the US version has this highlighted on every NEW game cover in orange to let you know BEFORE you buy it! Now Live was introduced in the US before it was released in Japan, but PSO was released in Japan FIRST the SAME DAY Live was released to the Japanese Xbox, as a bonus, every Japanese Live subscriber received PSO free with their Live account! So it was no-brainer that you just bought Live... you CAN play PSO on your Xbox now-for Japan that is. The US version was delayed about 2 or 3 times before it was released early Spring/late Winter of 2003.
Now an explanation for the online cost incase you didn't know. PSO for the DC was free, and the hackers came out in force online... and it was bad. PSO ver 2.0 came out with a cost around $5 (it actually matched the yen to dollar amount which normally came around to just over $5 instead of the $7 that was advertised as the online price). Having a cost helped.... some, but the hackers eventually came out again in force. PSO 1 & 2 for the Xbox the cheating is still there, but can be MUCH easier avoided. Simply put, make sure you know who your friends are online are people you can trust, and you're fine really.
I rated this game a 5 since I've been playing it for nearly 6 years across 2 consoles and 3 versions. But rating it overall as a 4 for the repetitive nature of the game and the Live requirement for X-Box. As cheap as this game is now, with a live Live account or expired Live account, buying PSO at this price is a no-brainer and will have you playing... for HUNDREDS of hours.
I've been addicted since it came out on the DC version 1.0 (1999) and STILL addicted on the X-Box!
This game is probably really fun but Microsoft destroyed it and it can no longer be played :( What a disappointment.

Phantasy Star Online is out for XBox Live. You can play single player and enjoy the challenges, or go online and play with up to four other players. The plot is pretty simple refugees from a dying planet head out to join a colony on a distant planet. When they get there, the colony has been wiped out, and you have to figure out why.To start with, this can be played like a single player RPG. You can choose to be human, newman, or a robot. This game is very fun on the Dreamcast and GameCube, and still fairly good on the PC. I imagine it would be on the Xbox as well, sadly I don't know because it literally CANNOT be played without some heavy-duty legwork. When this game came out, it required an Xbox Live account. While there's not much story to P.S.O. the game is oddly addicting. The gameplay is where it's at, and where it hurts. For that's really all you do... go around killing monsters. The main heart of the game, is gaining experience and levels and finding good or rare items. Now there is more depth to it than that. It all depends on the ID color of your character what type of items you find. Certain very rare items can be combined, or not be used until you're a certain level. Your mag (robotic-like familiar) is one key to help you move along a bit faster by upping IT's stats which help your own. Then there are ways your mag can change depending on what you feed it,and even a hidden 4th level evolution for everyone. So just touching on these few aspects, there's more depth here to be had, but you have to be VERY patient in finding what you want. The Xbox has the best character amount of options With each gamertag you can have 12 characters each. AND you can use the same gamertag in each of the 4 slots available which can total 48 characters on your hard drive! Now the down side and a little history why Live is required.
