When THQ went belly up at the end of 2012, the future of their gaming titles were in question. The two bigger ones were WWE and UFC. Once EA Sports grabbed up UFC, it was left in the air who would get WWE. After some negotiating, 2K Sports took WWE under their wing with promise to keep the same development team on board. Thus, WWE 2K14 was born. Now, the hard part is topping WWE 13's phenomenal storyline of the Attitude Era. Wrestlemania 30 is coming up in April of 2014 so why not do a tribute to such a landmark?

WWE 2K14 offers very little to change the game just at first glance. The graphics look pretty identical as do the commentary and WWE 2k14 loading screens. The little changes I noticed were: fixed chokeslam (no longer do people turn inside out when getting a chokeslam, it actually looks natural...when you bust someone open to bleed you can see the blood start to trickle down their face...when you land a big move on an opponent you can see them spread out on the mat almost lifeless....Slobber Knocker mode is back!!....reversals and grapples feel more natural and smoother to operate.

The new game mode, 30 Years of Wrestlemania, brings back a lot of warm and fuzzy nostalgic moments for wrestling fans of yesteryear. In chronological order, you will relive at least one, if not more, moments from each and every Wrestlemania until you get to 29. You have historical objectives required to complete the match so that you can be assured everything is how it happened in real life. This mode is insanely fun. Being there when Hogan bodyslammed Andre the Giant, Hogan defeated Yokozuna in record time, Razor Ramon beat HBK in ladder match, Undertakers greatest matches and when HBK retired Ric Flair...it's all there! The roster from this is very impressive. Older, almost forgotten names like Big John Studd and King Kong Bundy, bigger names that haven't been in games like Yokozuna and Razor Ramon all the way to just retro versions of HBK, Undertaker, Triple H and The Rock. Added to this game is also a Rivalry mode to Universe. This will allow you to have programs with superstars just like in real life that play over a set amount of time.

This game is such a huge improvement on WWE 13 and breathes new life into the series. Hopefully this will bring jaded wrestling fans back to the genre. I don't watch wrestling in real life, but playing this game reminds me of all the awesome moments that I got to live through as a child watching.

Honest reviews on WWE 2K14 - Xbox 360

I know there are some mixed reviews for this game b/c a lot of people see this as rehash of WWE '13. Truth be told it kind of is but BETTER!!! People seem to forget that THQ was still in the process of working on this game before they went out of business in January. So in that regard, I'd cut them some slack.

I think this one of the best games in THQ's collection of wrestling game ever made. It has 30 YWM mode, one of the biggest rosters in a WWE game, Superstar Heads, & slight improvement to Universe Mode & creation suite. Being that this was THQ's last game now under the 2k banner this was well worth the $60 imo plus the DLC.

With that being said, I hope that next year w/WWE 2K15 being 2k's first official wrestling game that 2k start including some serious changes in certain areas of WWE 2k series. I think it's time to start an overhaul with the character models they tend to come off as cartoon-like every year. I think it would be good if 2k went the design that EA uses for the Fight Night series when making the models. They also need to fix the freezing issue when creating a story in story mode that is a pain. I would like to see some elements of GM Mode from the SvR games added in Universe Mode in 2k15 adding rivalries in 2k14 was a good start.

Lords of the Realm: Royal Collection - PC/Mac Review

Lords of the Realm: Royal Collection - PC/Mac

If you are a fan of computer wargames and have not yet experienced Lord of the Realms II, then you have missed a real treat.

Players in this game assume the role of medieval lords, each the ruler of a county. Throughout the game, lords must divide the labor of their peasants between agriculture (herding cattle and growing wheat) and industry (mining iron, quarrying stone, cutting wood, and manufacturing weapons), decide how to tax their people, and adjust food distribution. When necessary, they can upgrade their fortifications, raise troops, hire mercenaries, and buy needed goods from merchants. The ultimate goal of the game is to conquer enemy counties and become king over the entire country.

Troop types include peasants, macemen, archers, crossbowmen, pikemen, swordsmen, and knights. Castles begin as simple, ungarrisoned palisades and can be upgraded, resources available, to a motte-and-bailey, Norman keep, stone castle, or royal castle (a big stone castle with a moat).

Sieges are the high point of this game. Attackers can assault fortifications with troops supported by catapults, siege towers, and battering rams, and defenders can man the walls with their soldiers and pour boiling oil on the besiegers.

Lords of the Realm II has improved upon the deficiencies of its predecessor, Lords of the Realm, and provides a good balance of strategy and tactics, economic management and battle.

Lords of the Realm 2 was the first strategy game I played. A friend brought it over in 7th grade, and in the past 7 years it's been the one game I've gone back to repeatedly. I have yet to grow tired of this game.

First, I love the game's soundtrack. I've actually put all the music WAV files in a playlist...and while I'm on the subject of the audio, if you haven't listened to setup2.wav, DO IT!

As for gameplay, it isn't exactly the most complicated of strategy games, but I think that's part of what makes it fun. If you're going to create an army, wait for one of the merchants to come through so you can buy ale. It's much easier to feed people on grain than cows, and it doesn't hurt happiness. The Knight is a spoiled brat. It is music to my ears to hear "The county is yours, my lord..." After countless hours playing this game, things like these are what you will discover. Oh, and defending your first siege without losing a guy (and no auto-calc either)...now there's a feeling of intense pride.

If you can manage to get the (now flaky) multiplayer system to work anymore (it sure as heck wasn't designed for XP!), you're in for quite a treat. The Siege Pack adds in a new gameplay form, the Skirmish. This is the real-time battles of the game played separate from the game itself. These are great for when you don't have time to sit through the typical hours for an RTS, but have a taste for medieval battle.

I just found and played LOTRII 2 weeks ago for the first time in 3 years. I am a sucker for this time period and started with Defender of the Crown back in the Tandy days. I was still surprised how challenging and good LOTRII was after all this time!

This is a challenging game, especially when the difficulty level is set to anything over 'normal'.

The control over economy, farming resource management, castle building and military design is wonderful. The graphics are good for a game of its age as do the sounds.

Military battles are reminiscant of Warcraft controls.

It has run very successfully on my Windows XP box and sounds beter than ever through Audigy.

I give 4 out of 5 as AI diplomacy could use an upgrade. I can't wait for Lords Of The Realm III to come out. Until then enjoy this, its still worth the purchase!

Honest reviews on Lords of the Realm: Royal Collection - PC/Mac

This is a GREAT turn-based strategy game; perhaps on my list of top 5 of all time. The only real drawback is that it is pretty old, so it has to be in compatibility mode on Vista, and isn't as smooth on XP (though it still works, it doesn't play the cut screens). Not sure how it works on Linux-based OS. But it's simply to play and to learn to play with on-screen tips, and will keep you entertained for hours, notwithstanding its age.

***UPDATE***

After reviewing my own review, I realized I hardly mentioned anything about the game play, so here it is in a nutshell: The king is dead, and now everybody is fighting for the crown (including you). Each "level" is a country (Ireland, for example) that is broken up into different counties, or a region (the middle-east) that is broken up into different countries. You have to capture each county by attacking it with an army you have built up with troops and weapons gleaned from you other counties. After you capture all of the counties, you go on to the next "level," which is just another country or region.

Though the gameplay is mostly turn-based (a turn every season), the battles are all real-time (or can be auto-calculated if you don't want to fight them). After taking a county, you have to make and keep it happy by keeping taxes low, rations in good supply, people in good health, and war-mongering to a minimum. You control all of these elements. A happy county will attract and keep peasants, which are allocated to different production areas (stone, wood, iron, wheat farm, dairy farm, blacksmith, field reclamation). You need to produce wheat and dairy to feed your people (or reclaim fields to farm), and you use resources to build castles and weapons to attack other counties and defend against invaders.

Very addicting, and I play it ever now, 13 years after I got my original copy.

My wife and I play it on the 360 all the time when we don't feel like setting up the board game. This game ranks up there with Catan and is my favorite board game that I own. I really wish they would release some more addons for it though.

Every person that comes over to my house gets addicted to this amazing tile strategy game. It seems simple enough: you get a turn and a tile. Put it where you can. Then decide if you want to claim part of that tile (and any connecting tile pieces that match) with a limited number of "followers." Repeat. Then score the game.

But as the games go by and you learn more and more about scoring and the strategy behind when and where to use your limited amount of followers you will find a game that has amazing depth and a high level of satisfaction as you pull just the right tile at the right time.

I've purchased all available add-ons (King & Baron, River 1 and River 2) and, like another reviewer, wish there were more. Until then, though, I am fully satisfied to play this online against you all and locally with friends and family. This is an excellent game.

This game is fun and requires thought to win. It is a tile game (which means setup and scoring is much easier on the Xbox than in real life) and with limited resources you need to make sure you get the most points. Since the game board changes with every game, no two are the same. Also, since you have no hand, you can have multiple players on the same couch.

Disney's Planes - Nintendo Wii Review

This could be a great game, except for the fact the instructions are completely useless and the controller is SO sensitive you literally find it hard to fly straight. There are settings when you don't use the Nunchuk for adjusting sensitivity, but the instructions don't tell you what that means and we had it on high and low and it seemed to make no difference. It was slightly easier with the Nunchuk than without, but it really is tough.

It's actually a cool game too but so hard to control I had to give it 1 star because from a playability standpoint my 6 year old was fed up in 20 minutes of trying, and she loved the movie and loves planes in general.

Anyone out there who has figured out how to make this less sensitive, please post a comment I might change my rating if someone can help us out with this. So far, my daughter spent her own money and feels ripped off because she just can't do it (and this is a kid who can play almost any other video game that even adults struggle at).

Graphics 4 stars.

Movie tie-in 5 stars.

Game itself 5 stars.

Playability (due to over sensitive controls) 1 star which is why it gets a one star review!

For a movie that is geared towards the younger set, this game is hard. Hard for the adults too. The multiple dimension and the sensitivity of the game were just too much for all of us. My little guy (5 years old) is very disappointed because he saved up all his money for a new game.

My aunt sent this game to my son whom is 4. He was so excited but was super mad because his game came 3 days late. Well once we finally got it he was dying to play. It is hard the controls are a bit crazy but after playing everyday for a week (he only plays for 1 hour) we got the hang of it. I play when he is sleeping to unlock everything for him. Its a good game but not very child friendly

Once you get the hang of the controls, this game is awesome... it's challenging and entertaining, and everyone should have one.

This game has amazing graphics-you can even see the snow spray off the board when you make the slightest turn. Plus, the camera controls are flawless. The sound track is pretty good, tooyou can hear the snowboard scraping and the snowboarders sometimes talk, and the techo tracks that accompany the races are pretty cool too.

My only complaint is that there aren't enough courses. After I unlocked the 6 courses and beat the "Black Diamond" level, there wasn't much else to do. But even after you've unlocked all the courses, it's still fun to play against your friends in the 2 Person VS mode, or doing tricks in the half pipe.

I think that anyone who has a N64 should add this game to their collection, without a doubt... it's a solid game, and you won't regret it.

Best Star Wars Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy Deals

Star Wars Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy
Customer Ratings: 4 stars

After a healthy wait, the third installment of the Jedi Knight saga continues in this latest release. Fans of the earlier games will be at home with the basic setup: run around lovingly crafted Star Wars locales, zwapping Storm-Troopers with a lightsaber and generally spoling the Evil Galactic Empire's plans. Where this latest installment differs from the older games is that for the first time you WON'T be playing as spy-turned-Jedi, Kyle Katarn.

"Horror," you gasp, "don't tell me he's gone forever!". Well no, he'll be making a special guest appearance, but this time as one of your Jedi instructors. As the title suggests, the game offers players the chance to join Luke Skywalker's Yavin IV Jedi academy a sort of Hogwarts School of witchcraft and wizardry, but for Jedi. Instead of playing as a familiar Star Wars character, the game allows players to create their own, unique, Jedi apprentice by customizing your species, sex, clothing etc, allowing for literally thousands of configurations.

Even better, as you progress through the non-linear missions that you'll be dispatched on by your instructors, you'll be able to specialise in a particular saber style...the basic single-saber, the Anakin-inspired two-saber approach or the pyrotechnic staff-saber, of Darth Maul fame. Saber combat is the main focus of the game, but you can still grab a handy blaster to zap things with.

After you've sufficiently honed your skills in the one player game you can take the fight online (with your custom character, naturally). New multiplayer modes include an objective-based team game called 'Seige', and the ability to re-enact the climactic Qui-Gon/Obiwan/Darth Maul threesome from Episode One in the new 'Power Duel' mode its a two against one saber showdown...what better way to prove your force mastery than by thwapping 2 birds with 1 stone?

So, loads of new tricks up the Lucasarts' sleeve, no doubt all wrapped up in the usual gorgeous graphics and sound. If Jedi Outcast is anything to go on, this game will be a must-have in any Star Wars fan's collection.

I don't really consider myself a gamer, but I do consider myself a major Star Wars geek. One day I spotted "Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy" in a list of upcoming games. That was it -no detail, just the name of the game, but I *knew* I had to have it.

This game was a good buy -I'm very happy with JA. Players can customize their character, build their own lightsaber (and later decide between dual sabers or a saber staff), choose their Force powers, and take on numerous enemies on different worlds. The early levels are easy, but the last tier of missions gets harder. All those Sith groupies get pretty hard to take down! (Force Grip works really nice, though -just drop 'em off a nice, high ledge. *evil grin*)

I do have a few quibbles with the game -for instance....

*spoiler space* (not sure if I need this or not)

...

...

...

...

...

The Force powers you choose don't actually have an impact on if you choose the light side or dark side. As far as I know, you can go all dark powers and still choose the light side, and vice versa. I prefer a sampling of all powers, except Drain and Rage.

Also, I'm annoyed by a certain bounty hunter's invulnerability. I blasted away at him with rockets and lightning and he *would not* die. I even tested this by putting on cheat codes (and there are some fun codes, btw), pulling out the heavy guns, and blasting him until his health bar went completely down, and he still didn't die. Fair warning, y'all. Use Force speed or something.

In addition, let me just say that the story line is pretty lame, and some of the voice acting is awful. But hey, it's Star Wars...remember that acting isn't what it's all about. You're nodding your head -yeah, you know what I'm talking about.

It's all about the lightsaber. The color, the hum, the screams of the enemy as the blade slashes through them...most satisfying, indeed. Although I beat JA soon after I got it, I still play the game. If you call yourself a SW nerd, you must get Jedi Academy. My quibbles are minor; my enjoyment is off the chart.

Love that 'saber.

Best Deals for Star Wars Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy

(Note: This review is for the PC version of Jedi Academy). Jedi Academy is the sequel to the excellent Star Wars game, Jedi Outcast. It is a shorter game, which includes almost twenty mission that last a total of 20-25 hours. However, it seems more substantial than just an expansion pack and offers several new things that have not been seen in the earlier Jedi games. Overall, I do still think that Jedi Outcast is the star of the series. Nonetheless, Jedi Academy does shine in a number of areas.

Gameplay: Much the same as Jedi Outcast. Your overall mission is to stop evil Jedis from resurrecting Marka Ragnos, a great Sith lord who has been dead for a long time. You have access to the Force and force powers (like push, pull, heal, speed, sense, grip, etc.) throughout the game, and you can actually decide which powers to specialize in. The game does have an alternate ending (depending on whether you choose a light or dark path in the penultimate mission), but only the final mission is affected. The game is fairly easy to learn, and the controls are straightforward (keyboard and mouse). Where Jedi Academy differs greatly from Jedi Outcast is the mission structure and the lightsabre fighting.

There are 3-tiers of missions that you must complete, each tier with five missions (you can do just 4 or all 5). In addition to these 15 missions, there are missions between the tiers for a total of about 19 missions. You can do the missions in each tier in any order, though most people will probably do them in the order in which they are listed. I would recommend doing all of the missions, although you can skip one mission per tier. Generally, the missions are interesting and do tie the larger story together. The only bad thing about the missions is that some of them, like in Jedi Outcast, have a heavy dose of first/third-person "shooteritis"--that is, you'll be looking for doors, switches, hidden passages, jumping sequences, and other annoyances much more frequently than seems necessary. About all of the puzzles can be figured out if you are willing to do enough head-scratching and trial-and-error attempts. However, the puzzles really do not add anything to the game, except for some occasional frustration.

The lightsabre fighting is fantastic, period. If you thought that Jedi Outcast (or the recent Star Wars movies) had amazing duels, the ones in this game are absolutely phenomenal. A number of things have been added to enhance the sabre fights, including more attack modes, acrobatics, martial arts, cool finishing moves, etc. The big addition is the ability to wield two sabres or to use a sabre staff (Darth Maul-style). Playing the game on the second highest difficulty, I found that you can win most fights against dark jedi with minimal reloading of a saved game. However, by the last third of the game, you'll have to fight some truly nasty jedi, who will teach you some real lessons in how to both handle a lightsabre and inflict force powers (that is, prepare to save and reload often). This game gets a number of things right in regard to recreating a Star Wars feel and offering some great gameplay. However, the best feature, by far, is the realistic lightsabre battles.

Graphics: This is a good-looking game. Character animation, environments, weapons, and so forth look convincing. You can customize the appearance of your character (and lightsabre) at the beginning of the game, but not very much beyond a few racial, gender, and clothing options. Cutscenes are decent, but the character movements and lip-syncing are just not up to the quality you would expect in a game like this. Anyhow, I believe that the developers went out of their way to make the lightsabre fights look stunning, which is really the only reason to play this game in the first place.

Sound: All is well in the audio department. Most (if not all) of the music is from the Star Wars movies, so you can't go wrong there. The voice acting ranges from decent to very good. Weapons and atmospheric sounds are as they should be.

If you are a fan of the Jedi Knight game series, or simply like the Star Wars universe, I would definitely recommend Jedi Academy. In my opinion, it is not quite as good overall as Jedi Outcast (or as stable--even with the patch, it crashed on me about ten times, mostly during the loading of saved games). Still, if you can get it at a discount, it's well worth the effort.

Honest reviews on Star Wars Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy

This game was a solid addition to the Jedi Outcast series, but it seems a little short to me and lacking in character development. Part of it might have been the fact that they tried to make the player customizable, but with an engine already coded and tricked out as far as it could go, you'd think they would have made more of an effort to develop a plot and story. It's still better than what you see in the two "pre-quels", but there was so much more possibility there for this game.

Where was the large level like in Outcast were you were captured on a Star Destroyer and the asteroid level? Not to mention the huge rush of stormtroopers? Have Jedi become so numerous again that they could be almost the only characters that you'd encounter on a level?

Anyway, I'd say that this is a good game from an action standpoint, but it could have used better writing and plot development. The graphics wheren't anything we hadn't seen in the previous installment, and yet the story wasn't as strong as it's story.

For everyone who has been dying to play this game, i absolutely cannot and will not blame you. I was waiting for this game for a while, and the preview seriously owned. Jedi Academy is the sequel to Jedi Outcast, which showed the fans what LucasArts is capable of. In this game, you play Jaden Korr, a person who constructed his own lightsaber without being trained. Thats great news because it means that you start off with a lightsaber of your choice. You choose the hilt of your lightsaber and the color. Also you can choose your race and gender. Another great asset is that the game has Xbox Live compatibility, and you can choose your forces after every level that you beat. Once you become a Jedi Knight, you can choose to have a new type of stance or new lightsabers! O ya, the Dual Lightsabers used by Anakin Skywalker in the Attack of the Clones, which means you have two lightsabers, or you can have the Staff lightsaber which Darth Maul uses. Thats probably the best part of the game. Also, in multiplayer, you dont have to unlock any characters because they are all there for you! However, there is no such thing as a flawless game yet. The game get extremely repetitive, for after a while you are always fighting dark jedi. You would probably think, "Hey, isnt that a good thing, going face to face in a lightsaber duel?" but trust me, because after a while you will just wanna give up. Also the game isnt nearly as long as Jedi Outcast, which was a major flaw. I beat this game in 5 days, but i didnt really stop because i was pretty much addicted. O ya---for all you Boba Fett lovers, Boba Fett is in the game! Hes in the story mode in one level, in which the only bad guy in the level is him! ha..yea..face to face 1 on 1 with a guy who can fly and has a flamethrower....He is also a playable character in multiplayer and he can have jedi powers and a lightsaber! Now here are your Pros and Cons

PROS:

New attacks and lightsaber of your choice plus create your own character

Game is very adventurous and is addicting.

story mode has about 15 levels

XBOX LIVE COMPATABILITY!

CONS:

Eventually you are always fighting Jedi

Game gets a little repetitive

Multiplayer is better in Jedi Outcast---Smarter AI and more fun levels.

Well as you see this game has a good amount of Pros and the Cons arent too much so if i were you i would at least try the game. IF you are a LucasArts fanatic i would definitely recommend this game to you. George Lucas does it again.

*Note* This game has a unique twist near the end of the game which reminded me of Knights of the Old Republic.....

I was 22 years old when I noticed a crowd gathered around a new game called Mortal Kombat, and by the time Mortal Kombat 2 was released, I was spending around 20 dollars a week on it. I have played every single MK game since (including Sub Zero Mythologies) and Shaolin Monks is a cool addition to the series overall. The graphics are nice (at times beautiful) and the gameplay is retro fighting (Double Dragon anyone?) brought onto a modern console. You have many classic moves available and some new ones as well. The opening animation is bar none the coolest and most brutal fight scene EVER in a video game! The 2 player co-op is fun as well as the Vs mode which gives you LARGE arenas to fight in. I am not a big fan of Deception or Deadly Alliance as they really are just button mashing games. You can memorize combos, or just hit random buttons and your chances of a victorious outcome are almost the same. MK 2 is by far the best designed Mortal Kombat game, but it's nice to see the franchise try new things. I like Shaolin Monks and hope to see some more MK adventure games soon!

I should start by saying I was a little hesitant going into this game because of other Midway attempts at Mortal Kombat adventure titles. However given the lack of co-op games my roommate and I bought the game and crossed our fingers. What we got was an over the top martial arts filled fun fest. The cut scenes play out like a B-rate martial arts movie (which is very entertaining), the graphics are good enough that I have no complaints, but the game truly shines in the game play. At the start of the game you will have two characters Kung Lao and Liu Kang both of whom have unique fighting styles and special moves as well as multiple fatalities. The puzzles in the games usually involve killing your foes in creative ways; this is almost always fun to do. Basically if you're a fan of Mortal Kombat or old fashioned co-op beat-em up games you should enjoy this game. I will say that if you expecting anything like traditional Mortal Kombat titles this is not it and if you are expecting tons of characters to play as then you will be disappointed. (but no one would be dumb enough to expect either of these and ridicule the game for it would they?)

Best Deals for Mortal Kombat Shaolin Monks - Xbox

Mortal Kombat continues in its series of bloody death matches with Mortal Kombat Shaolin Monks. However, this game is more adventure a la Gauntlet.

You get the signature blood one character throws a spinning hat of doom at his enemies which literally chops their heads right off. Your enemies can hit each other by accident and get into a side war. You are jumping, comboing and special-moving your way to your goal.

There are multiple characters to use through the game, each with different abilities and attacks. There's also co-op if you want to play with a friend, and a head to head arena style combat area as well.

The environments are reasonable quality graphics hanging vines, textured walls. It's a bit of a let-down from their stunning, long intro movie, though. That's got to be one of the better intro movies I've seen on the XBox!

The sound is OK there's little background noise, and the monsters and characters grunt and groan while the metal sword CLANG sounds. You can always play your favorite iPod mix in the background on your stereo if you want something more interesting.

You even get a full copy of Mortal Kombat 2 in this game, if you want some old school fun!

If you are solely a person who loves the raw fighting of the regular Mortal Kombat series, then you might not like this one. There's walking and platforming involved in here. However, I really suggest you at least rent it and give it a try. It's a lot of fun and I really enjoyed the weapons, monsters, and moves.

Honest reviews on Mortal Kombat Shaolin Monks - Xbox

A few things you should know first about Mortal Kombat : Shaolin Monks:

1.First and foremost, this IS NOT a fighting game. This is an action/adventure game.

2.If you are looking to buy this game for your kids, you may think twice. There is a lot of blood and gore with this game and it may not be for the squemish either. But thats Mortal Kombat for you :)

Let me say that I hate, hated , will always hate fighthing games. But there always has been one exception : MORTAL KOMBAT. The MK story, characters, secrets, and other things that set this series apart from the rest is what made me a big fan of the series.

So what Mortal Kombat Shaolin Monks (MKSM) does is take all those great MK characters from the fighting games and puts them into an action adventure game. And the game really is very fun to play.

The best thing is the non stop action. There is never a dull moment in this game. You're constantly on the move to try to defeat enemies, solve puzzles, and accomplish missions. It takes an old school method, ko-op fighting and turns it into an awesome next-gen experience. You start off with Liu Kang or Kung Lao and pick up characters along your journey. The story is almost like Lord of the Rings in terms of being based on old world stories.

The graphics for the xbox version are beautiful. Sometimes you have to pause the screen just because you're in awe of the visuals. The characters look great, and the backgrounds, buildings, the whole game looks great. The sound is terffic too, but they MK has always had terrific sound.

The blood, gore, fatalies, hidden secrets, all of it is there. The game is a joy to play.

This game is just average. A very medicore effort. Im a Mortal Kombat fan but Im putting that aside for this review.

This game is similar to God of War, Devil May Cry, and Ninja Gaiden. The action is pretty good. However the graphic is very average. For a game with such simple graphic, its shocking that a 360 degrees adjustable camera don't exist. The sound effect is good but the music is crap or non-exist. The stages are generic and lack details. Some puzzles are very annoying. The cut-scene is lame and boring, the voice acting is horrible. There are only 2 playable characters and 2 more unlockable. SHOULD be at least 10 to 15 like the fighting game!

The good part about this game is the bloody violent animation. Cutting people in half, pieces of meat flying, decapitation, etc... all with blood are just some of many moves that can be executed. However the ten extra fatalities feature is disappointing. Newer fatalities are basically same as starter ones but more people get killed off. The fatality 'scene' is always the same one, same angle. It should be different 'scene' with different views related to the angle of approach.

Overall don't buy this game. Get X-men Legends II instead or wait for the new Castlevania.

For serious fighting game fans, a decent stick is a key part of your arsenal. However, the parts and construction generally used to make up consumer-grade sticks, especially in the US where Arcades are more or less dead, have almost universally been of sub-par quality when compared to the real thing you find attached to arcade cabinets.

This makes sense, of course. Arcade components are designed to withstand full-scale assaults every day all day; it's a safe assumption that something bought for home use isn't going to go through the kind of abuse you'd expect an arcade machine to go through. On top of that, constructing something out of industrial-strength arcade parts ain't cheap. Who's going to pay over $100 for a game controller?

Well, as it turns out, a lot of people. Left with no other solution, fighter fans who want the genuine article have traditionally turned to simply making their own sticks. You buy the parts from a japanese manufacturer like Sanwa or Seimitsu, plot out where the holes are going to go on a chunk of wood, and drill and solder and screw your way to perfection. This approach, however, is expensive, time consuming, and requires some level of expertise to pull off correctly.

The other approach was to wait for a Japanese company to produce one of their factory sticks (usually in extremely limited numbers), put them up for sale in Japan, and pay through the nose to import. While this was a lot easier than buying your own parts, you always wound up paying some kind of premium. $200+ was not uncommon to own one of these things.

We're at the point now, however, where the industry has gotten large enough that you can just up and buy these things on Amazon.com now. My sincere recommendation, if you're at all interested in owning a stick, is that you bite the bullet and shell out the money for a good one. Once you pass a certain threshold in quality with these sticks, you enter the realm of specialized consumer electronics that are made to specifications without regard to your average user.

The HRAP3 is one such stick. This thing is designed from the ground up with the assumption that the only people who are going to buy it are serious connoisseurs, so damn the price, let's make it properly.

If you're not a SERIOUS serious stick person and are just getting into the swing of things, here's all you need to know: This is one of the best high-end sticks money can buy, and it will last you a decade or more. These are extremely durable, very responsive, and have a very well-defined functionality about them that you won't get from cheaper products. Yeah, they're expensive, but honestly? You're getting your money's worth and that will become apparent the instant you use this stick. Buy it, be happy.

As an aside, this stick has a USB lead and will also work with your PC out of the box (just hold the HOME button for 5 straight seconds upon plugging it in). This is absolutely perfect for emulators like MAME, or any other PC game you wish to play with an arcade stick.

That out of the way...

Okay, let's assume you're a serious stick person. Here's a more in-depth rundown:

The stick itself is a Sanwa with a square gate, and the buttons are all Hori. This isn't bad, but the good news is that they're all attached with a quick-detach lead and can be popped loose with a screwdriver easily, no solder required. If you want to go the serious route and swap the buttons for Sanwa and the stick for Seimitsu, this stick will let you do it pretty easily. Google has many picture tutorials to do this.

I replaced the gate with a Sanwa Octagon (I like Sanwa sticks but a lot of people prefer Seimitsu) and all the buttons with Sanwa. It took about 10 minutes and was completely painless.

If you do this, you have a stick that is officially on par with the Street Fighter IV TE stick (also made with all Sanwa parts) and the special import-only editions of the HRAP, but it is much cheaper to buy this one and do a little surgery than buy the factory-stock ones that come with Sanwa. This is a lovely medium ground between building your own and buying a factory made one; you get some level of customization, you're saving a little money, and you're still getting full-on arcade quality. Go for it.

I hope this review helped!

Street Fighter II HD Remix, and Street Fighter IV have fueled the fire for fighting games again and people are once again looking for a good quality stick. For the money, you can't beat this stick. All of you searching for an arcade quality joystick without breaking the bank can look here. The Hori Real Arcade Pros were easily over $120 in Japan so this is a bargain. It uses a Sanwa joystick which is one of the best if not the best quality joystick around. It uses buttons which are made by Hori which are a tad spongy to me, but the beauty of this stick id that you can easily swap them out for Sanwa or Seimetsu buttons if you want a true arcade unit in your home. Sanwas can take millions of presses.

For the average person, this stick will be more than fine, for the hardcore fighter, this stick will serve as a base for upgrading. Being a Japan stick, you get the ball type stick rather than the typical US baseball bat. WHen I first tried the ball type years ago, I didn't like it. Then I got used to it and it offers a bit more speed and control when playing fighters. I refuse to use anything but the ball type now. Buttons are arranged in the Japan curved arcade cabinet style which again, I prefer now compared to the straight button layout. Add turbo functions for shmups and you've got yourself a fine stick for the price. I personally also have the Sega Virtua Stick High Grades (available only through Japan imported) and those are all Sanwa with a 6 instead of 8 button layout. SImply the best. Second is the Hori here, and about $50 cheaper.

THose looking at the upcoming Street Fighter IV Mad Catz ones...I'm a little weary as Mad Catz doesn't exactly scream quality but supposedly they are all Sanwa Parts as well. I'd hold off until they are out. That and they are sixty dollars more than this. Avoid the cheaper SF IV ones, those are not made with arcade parts and your stick will most likely fail at some point.

Pros:

Curved button layout

Sanwa Japan style ball stick and convex style buttons

Hori quality

Upgradeable buttons

Price

Cons:

Hori Buttons (not a bad thing except for the most hardcore)

Limited availability

So Hori has finally made the Real Arcade Pro 3 available stateside, so no more costly importing!

Believe it or not, this is my first real Arcade Stick. I'm 25 years old and am just now getting into fighters properly. Street Fighter IV was a factor but It's also a genre I've always wanted to get into but never had enough confidence with my skill level nor had the neccessary tools.

So I've finally started to commit myself to develop the skill and understanding the rules for different titles as well as purchasing said tools!

This Arcade Stick is highly regarded for it's build and quality. True as others have stated, it doesn't have the infamous Sanwa Buttons that the special Japan Amazon Edition had or the upcoming (now sold out) SFIV Tournament Stick have, but this is irrelevant at this point to me. I'm just learning and the buttons here are more than good enough.

As listed, it's is USB corded (not wireless), which is about 10ft in length. It's fine for my household though I had to buy an additional USB extension cord for like $3 as I sit about 13ft away from my Tele.

The great thing about it is that it double as a PC stick, so you MAME enthusiasts out there are good to go! I've gone back and started playing the Street Fighter Alpha series as well as SFIII: 3rd Strike. Not to mention it's fun to go and play around with ol' Neo Geo classics like Metal Slug (it's got a turbo function), KoF, Samurai Showdown, etc...

Whether it's in your lap or sitting on a counter or table, it's fantastic and comes highly recommended!

Honest reviews on Playstation 3 Real Arcade Pro. 3 Fighting Stick

The HRAP 3 is a great stick right out of the box. It has a Sanwa JLF joystick straight from the Japanese arcades and Hori buttons. The only downside to the joystick is the Hori Buttons. They're not very good for fighters (like Street Fighter 3) and feel cheap. Luckily Hori added quick disconnects and you can easily buy new buttons and swap them out with extremely little knowledge. Build quality is great and it has a good weight to it. It works easily and seamlessly with the Playstation 3 and the PC. Just plug it in and it's good to go.

Highly recommended.

There is a drought for arcade sticks, especially with the release of Street Fighter IV. My local game store doesn't have any, and the only ones they do carry when they do have them in, are the Mad Catz ones. Not the Tournament Edition (TE) either. This arcade stick has the exact same size of the Tekken 5 Ultimate Collector's edition for those of you that have that. The only difference is the button layout on the Real Arcade Pro (RAP) is that of traditional Japanese arcade boards. It's not bad in any way, just that it takes time to get acquainted with it.

I've read reviews of this being a "clunky" joystick, which was very surprising as it has Sanwa parts for the joystick unit (Sanwa is the premier arcade parts developer in the world). I suspected that these individuals had never been in an actual arcade. When I got the stick it was like I thought, because the stick is just like the arcades I grew up on. The buttons, however are not Sanwa buttons...to me though, I prefer the Hori buttons. Although Sanwa is reported to have better response, I can't stand the clicking of their buttons (if you depress the button, it will click). For the hard core, you can buy the Sanwa buttons and install them if your at all technically savy (still making it cheaper than the TE by Mad Catz). And as for the reports of the RAP being defective, I've not had a problem at all with mine for over a month.

After a month of research, I concluded this was the arcade stick for me. I trust Hori, it wasn't as expensive as the import version, and anything "better" was outrageously more expensive. Take it from an arcade rat from the 90's, this is the right arcade stick for your fighting games. I've had five friends buy it and they all love it as well.

First and foremost, dont buy this game expecting to play the original on a different world. While some of the controls are the same and the characters are the same, the gameplay is very different. This may turn some people off, and it may make others look at this game is a very different light.

Jak and Daxter: The Precursor Legacy was a great game, and so is the sequal, Jak II. One of the first things that you will notice is that the "hub" world, Haven City, is HUGE! There are numerous alleys, shops, buildings, caverns and dark places for you to explore. The city is massive and covers a lot of ground. The setting has been darkened up a bit as well, Jak has gone through some...interesting changes since we saw him last. His powers have increased...as well as his attitude.

The majority of gameplay is taken up by mission structured objectives. You need to go to point A and do B and your reward is C. The missions range in scope from racing to escort missions. The game developers have obviously taken a hint from the Grand Theft Auto series in terms of gameplay. Virtually every vehicle can be hijacked and ridden around the city. Guards are patrolling the streets, and if you make trouble, they will chase you down and shoot some pretty wicked weapons in your general directionto avoid them you need to either hide or outrun them.

The camera is great, and can be repositioned to help you out with the trouble spots. As expected, the graphics are smooth and lush, with a great style of animation incorporated into the final product. There are no load times and the scenery flows together nicely. As I mentioned earlier, the world on which we find outselves is massive and there are many objectives to accomplish before we can unlock all its secrets. The addition of a map option is a great help as the size of Jak II's world(s) can sometimes be overwhelming and confusing.

The only thing that detracts from the game is the difficulty level on some of the missions. I have found myself trying for over an hour at times to clear one objective or another. The game can be downright brutal, cruel, sadistic and even petty...yet I always find myself going back into the fray for more. This game is unique and by all means shoud be rented before you go and buy it. Naughty Dog has tried something new, they have tried to grow with the times and create something that stands on its own. As mentioned earlier, some might be put off by the new direction that Jak and Daxter have taken, others will applaud the developers for the fresh new look.

Its a mixed bag...some like it, some hate it...the best advice: rent before you buy...its safer that way.

I'm gonna start off by saying i loved the first Jak & Dexter game, i thought it was the BEST platformer of the PS2 until this one came out (yes, i thought it was better than Ratchet & Clank). When i heard the confirmation of Jak II i was the first to pre-order it at my local Gamestop store. I thought immediately that it would be like the first one until i heard and saw the commercial trailers for the game.

Jak II borrows from several different current game titles, but for the most part it is mainly influenced by Grand Theft Auto. I'm not even sure if you can still consider this a 'platformer' game. The game is consistant of Jak and Dexter running around this town trying to do missions for people who will help them overthrow the ruler of the kingdom (or at least that's what i'm getting from where i'm at in the game). The game starts out (i guess) where the last one left off (but according to Dexter when he finds Jak he says "i've been looking for you for 2 years" so i'm not sure). Jak was captured by the ruler of the kingdom (forget his name) as his 'secret weapon' to destroy the creatures threatening his town, he pumped Jak full of Dark Eco to make him a powerful threat, unfortunately, Jak resisted. The ruler wants Jak dead by the night so he and his men leave Jak alone in the prison where he is being kept. Dexter finds Jak and sort of helps him out of the prison, afterwards you must find different people and do different missions to earn the respect of the slums and an underground figure named 'The Shadow' who will help overthrow the evil ruler.

Gameplay, as i said before, is completely different from the first JAD. Forget about seeing the bright, colorful islands and hearing the tropical drum beats on the background music, that is now replaced by a depressing, ominous sounding music. The bright, colorful islands are replaced with a dingy, grimy looking city with very repulsive monsters. Instead of doing what is normally required in a platformer, you instead can now do almost everything available in the GTA series (minus blood, hookers, gangs, etc.). Instead of an on-foot journey, you are equipped with a choice of hovercrafts (only after you steal them from unexpecting people in the town) and a new selection of weapons. You can now have the option of killing innocent pedestrians, outrunning the local authorities and roaming about the very large town (once again, the basics of the GTA series). This game is not the 'child-friendly' game JAD was, it is more hardcore, like another reviewer said, most things turn very harsh in this game (Example: "Kick some butt" turns into "kick some ass", borrowed from another reviewer). If your looking for a family game, don't look here.

My overall reaction to Jak II is mostly positive, i enjoy the 'cartoonish' GTA experience very much and find the graphics very much improved from the original JAD. I think i prefer Jak like he was in the first one, however, instead of the now 'hardcore' Jak. Overall, this is a fun 'platformer?' game that you can enjoy for under $40.

(Also, i didn't understand why this game is titled Jak II when it still features an equil amount of Dexter? Maybe because it revolves more around Jak, not Dexter? I'm not sure, i would've been happy with Jak & Dexter II.)

Dear Naughty Dog

I really don't know what to say here. On one hand, you've made a game thats incredibly addicting, fun, imaginative, and an all-around blast to play. But on the other hand, I'm hoping that you fire the sadists who designed most of this game.

I'm glad you made a sequal to Jak and Daxter, a fun and lighthearted game that was arguably one of the best family games in a long time. It's great to go through more adventures featuring Jak and the adorable Daxter. Moving from a jungle world to a city world was an interesting move, and it works for me. Haven city is an interesting place, and enjoyable to go through, but I did notice that there's really nothing to do. No shops to go to, no gyms, no resturaunts. All one can do is just walk around and enjoy the sights. Though I do admit, the palace is awesome!

But oh, what sights they are. Jak II gets a perfect score in terms of graphics. Everything is very detailed and glorious to behold, especailly when you're high above the ground, and have a bird's eye view of the city.

But...Naughty Dog, I have to ask you something. Why did you make this game so f***ing hard? Really, why did you? The difficulty in this game is simply unacceptable. The game's missions are frustrating excercises in trial and error, where the game forces you to memorize a certian pattern with no room for error. Make one, ONE mistake, and you fail and start over. Video game developers, please take note of this. TRIAL AND ERROR, MIXED IN WITH THE DIFFICULTY LEVEL FROM HELL, IS NOT FUN!

I can't even begin to describe how many times I smashed my controler on the ground, screamed curses at the television screen, and generally prayed that Naughty Dog would go out of buisness. At times I felt like I was Dark Jak, running into the Naughty Dog offices while yelling "Hulk smash!" and tearing everything and everyone to bloody shreds for making such an insanely difficult game.

I don't ever want to do those F***ING RACES EVER AGAIN. EVER. Those stupid, insanely difficult races that you have to win to advance in the game are almost impossible to beat due to racers who almost never make a mistake, and have reflexes six times as fast as a normal human. There's one race where you have to race the city champion through the city and beat him. Naughty Dog, I have never experienced so much anger and hatred at a game before in my life. If it takes me sixty attempts and three hours before I can complete a mission, especially this race, I think you made a big mistake in terms of difficulty. I think you should stick with platforming and abandon racing forever. I'd rather lick the inside of an exhaust pipe then do another race in this game, or any other racing game that you develop Naughty Dog.

Oh, and Naughty Dog, people got sick of racing through pink cirlces about a decade ago. In your future games, please do not have any races where you have to go through pink circles. Insanely bad.

And the strange thing is that while the game is unforgivably difficult, I found myself wanting to come back and keep going for more. I don't know why either. Maybe it was just the fact that I wanted to see what was around the next corner, or how the story was going to go. Talk about heroin! It destroys you, yet you always want more.

So while the game is unforgivably difficult and at times infuriating to play, the visuals and sound are top notch, and I found the story to be quite fascinating, with several twists that I never saw coming.

After finishing the game, I have mixed feelings. I think i'll like going through the city for quite some time, just to look at the sights. And while there are a lot of secrets to unlock (by collecting precursur orbs), I don't think i'll try to unlock most of them, simply because the tasks you must do to unlock them are more of those insanely difficult missions. Why do you love to torture me Naughty Dog, by forcing me to get exact times on those F***ing races to earn orbs? To be blunt, your races suck. Loosing them over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over again for hours is not fun. Ever. It's a waste of time. I hope you fire the sadists who designed the races, and all these sadistic challanges that you have to do to get orbs.

So do I commend or condem you Naughty Dog? In the end, the answer is neither. I'll play Jak 3 because I do really like this series, and I want to see where it goes. But I hope you learned a lot from this game and the feedback. So the game gets an A+ in the visual and audio department, and a Din the gameplay department.

To people who are considering this game(or those who have severe anger management issues), I strongely suggest you rent it before you buy it.

Honest reviews on Jak II - PlayStation 2

While this game is a sequel to "Jak and Daxter", there really are few similarities between the two. The first game was a pretty kid-friendly platform game where you walked around colorful islands and boards collecting orbs. It was a fun game, but didn't really have much of an edge. I guess you could compare the feel of that game to Crash Bandicoot.

Jak 2, on the other hand, offers a much different approach. After being tortured and experimented upon for 2 years, Jak escapes a castle within a dark city. In order to get revenge, he joins the underground rebellion in hopes of overthrowing the evil Baron.

I'm about halfway through the game, and I can tell you I'm surprised at how difficult some of the early missions were. For example, one of the first few mission has you being chased by a security tank, and it definitely takes a few tries to get it. Other boards were tough because if you get killed halfway through, you have to go back to the beginning, which can get frustrating.

To me, the most annoying part of the game is driving the hovercrafts around the city (I think this is where the game gets compared to Grand Theft Auto). The difference is that in GTA, driving is part of the game and integral to many missions. However here, most of the time you're just driving to the spot where the mission begins, so there's really no point in having to spend 3 minutes to get to the next board.

So, overall...great game visually, definitely challenging to play, very different from the original. However, driving around the city is tedious and kind of annoying.
