Where's Waldo?: The Fantastic Journey Review

I think this should cost $15 or less. At almost $30, it's way overpriced! This review is specifically for the wii version.

There are only 12 scenes and they're taken from the books. Since it's subtitled "The fantastic Journey", I believe the scenes are all from "The Fantastic Journey" book--but I'm not sure on that. Yes, there is some animation and the game does speak most things so it works for kids who can't read. Yes, they did move where people are hidden so it's not a complete waste if you have the book (but the book is totally better!). The book is $8 on amazon (the paperback reissue). Your kids will get a lot more entertainment from the book and you won't have to worry about them scratching a disk!

Pros:

--You can do split screen 2 player.

--Very well animated. Not everything is animated, but there's always something moving on screen.

Great voices.

--They do mix up the gameplay with a few ideas like some "what's different in these two pictures" mini games.

Cons:

--short game, only 12 scenes

--Another draw of the books is that the whole map is spread out in front of you. Here you see a small part of the scene and scroll around. I think the game knows this is a pain because there are many scenes where you can't scroll around (or can only scroll a small area of the whole map).

--Oh and finally there are 15 second load screens! You choose your save game, and there's a 15 second load. You the choose your level, and there's a 15 second load. Then there's a lot of game play without load, but when you're comparing to a book--long load time is certainly a strike against the game.

The game is fun and it plays well. I'm sure they spent a lot of money animating it and doing the voice work. But for $30, it's totally not worth it. You can get the complete waldo for $30! Where's Waldo? The Complete Collection Six books for the same price as one short game! This really should have either been a $10 wiiware game with less animation/voice or it should have included at least 3 books worth of stuff!

If you like the search and find puzzle and want a good game for the wii: I suggest "Ultimate I spy" because it takes the I spy books to the next level. Ultimate I Spy The game lasts a bit longer, uses the I spy gameplay but in 3-d, and plays really well.

If I hadn't played the I spy game first, I might have liked the Waldo game better. As far as the Waldo game goes, you can't just take a book and use the same format in a game. You'll just want the book instead. Imagine a movie based on a book that just read every page of the book--totally wouldn't work! I Spy Wii is a game. Where's Waldo Wii is a book failing to be a good game.

The WII game is ok but I would suggest renting it or buying it used. There's not too much to the game besides a dozen or so 'pages' where you find Waldo and his friends, special objects, and enemies. There is also compare games (what's different between two pictures) and identify where a small picture clip is on the mural.

This game does not have too many scenes / levels and though it offers a few different types of puzzles there are not enough of them to keep you playing the game beyond the first few uses. As noted, it's a bit annoying that you play a puzzle fairly quickly and then have to wait and wait for the game to load this and that.

I jumped on this game because I got bored of Mii Matching on Play probably will research more before spending nearly $30 on a game next time!

I enjoyed playing the game. It reminds me of the book, except that there are a couple of levels you can choose from in regards to difficult. I played it on easy and intend to go back and play it on the harder level. There are some timed portions of the game that can be a little more challenging.

Bought this for my hubby's birthday and he loved the game, only bad thing was that he finished it completely in a very short time. The graphics are cool for any real Where's Waldo fanatic and my 6 yr old daughter enjoyed playing it too.

Assassins Creed 3 manages to live up to the hype of its runup, provided you are willing to overlook a bit too much cutscening, way too labyrinthian tutorials, and a large portion of graphical glitches. While I applaud the attempt of Ubi to push the envelope, their flagship title probably isn't where they want to do the first breakout of the "new and improved" Anvil engine.

Graphics (5-10/10): Graphics of the environments are simply stunning. Water flows like water on the sea, clouds and landscapes are pristine and crsip, and fog flows naturally and blocks just the right amount of vision. Trees and buildings feel natural and organic, and nothing is left feeling out of place.

People graphics are... very unsettling. The eyes especially always look like polished stones because of a persistent reflective effect. Clothes and weapons go through objects and people rag doll way too much when killed. Stutters from officers are the worst, with partolling officials getting trapped on railings, shimmying like they are doing the ants in the pants dance, or sinking into the floor but somehow spinning like tops to stare directly at you.

The cutscenes are fantastic, but its almost that they're too detailed. The new engine is great, but leaving it at 60% of capability would've removed a large portion of the problems but still allowed for improvements.

Characters (2-10/10): The characters can make or break a story. Alitair was distant but just involved enough that you felt something for the character. Ezio was entertaining, funny, well developed, and flowed organically from one game to the next, plot hole leaps forward in time be damned.

Desmond is like a pair of dress pants you dont like. You wear them when you have to, and they're annoying, but they do serve a purpose and you can have a quite enjoyable experience in them provided its brief. In other words, perfect. Desmond's story draws to a well deserved and entertaining close, but thankfully he's not the central character.

Haytham Kenway therefore is like slipping into a pair of your favorite jeans: broken in, comfortable, and wearable anywhere. He's erudite, cultured, polite, and willing to rip your heart out through your back after finishing his High Tea.

Connor Kenway... Connor Kenway... ... one must pause long and hard before putting words to this creation. Connor is not something that can be easily shoved into a pants based metaphor. He's frustrating, incredibly naive, stupid and brilliantly intelligent, and willing to put his money with his mouth is. All of his positive and negative aspects sum up to almost zero. He's never truly likable, but never annoyed you enough to make him a legitimate detraction. The fact that they've already leapt to a new ancestor is proof that Ubi at least picked up on that.

Audio (7/10): Audio continues to be top notch. However, while it was great that they got a dozen Mohawk to voice characters, after ten minutes, it was unnecessary in the extreme.

Gameplay (8/10): Improvements abound here, but for one place: the 6 hour "tutorial." Did you know you can choke out a guard instead of kill them if you are empty handed? I didn't, and the game never told you, or that you had a horse summoning whistle, and left you plodding throuh 4-foot deep snow.

AC1's tutorial was seven minutes, all in the Animus. Having one mission explain one new command at a time was a ghastly experience, and it still didn't cover everything that was critical.

The naval portion has to be seen to be believed. I could play a whole game like that and be content. Between bording actions and cannon warfare, its like watching a naval war movie.

New side missions are well placed and a nice addition rather than being a crucial waste of time, ala Codex pages. They help and they're useful, but the game won't screech to a halt so you can go collect them all.

Story (10/10): If you see some of the twists coming, you are probably psychic. Not much more can be said without spoilers.

Overall (8/10): Packaging and unbelievable glitches are the only spots where this game stutters. Suspension of disbelief is great, but when you ride on a horse with a musket sticking through it, it's kind of like being on a plane during takeoff that sucks in a flock of ducks. They're all small things, but you can't ignore how much bumpier the ride suddenly becomes. A few patches and this'll quickly crawl up to 9-10 range. By the time they make the War of 1812 installment for Connor, they'll have the system nailed down.

Update: The Tyranny of King Washington DLC (5/10): The alternate history DLC was very poorly thought out. The first episode is on an entirely new map, an almost nuclear winter New York, and follows a surprisingly bland and boring plot, where Washington is corrupted by the Apple of Eden. New abilities are shoe horned in pretty hard and are absolutely necessary to proceed through the plot, which is a pretty bad thing, as you're supposed to be able to get through on your wit and guile rather than your "spirit power."

The future episodes appear to hold more promise, but so far, I'm unimpressed. I've already purchased the season pass, so hopefully this will improve.

In addition, MP content continues to be added. Not just player purchased items, if you have money that you absolutely have to flush-I mean spend, but cutscenes and "glitched" cutscenes, which can be pretty entertaining. A seroius Gold star for actually adding content rather than just another ten billion prestige levels.

It really pains me to say this, but this isn't a fun game. I love the Assassin's Creed series. It's easily one of my favorite.

This game does have some cool features. Hunting, the wilderness, etc etc, but for all of the cool new features, they forgot the features that made this series enjoyable.

One of the biggest problems is the main character is unbearable. This is something that didn't occur to me until playing this game. With Altair and Ezio, I had taken for granted an engrossing protagonist. Their stories were interesting, the cut scenes where they spoke were interesting and their story was interesting. You genuinely liked them. You wanted them to succeed and you became invested in their characters. Connor is a one dimensional schmuck. He says nothing insightful. He's not endearing in anyway. Actually, I found myself hating him. This may seem minor to someone reading this, but it isn't. It turns out it isn't fun to play a 30 hour game when you hate the main character. It becomes a bit of a chore.

Now let me get down to some of the details of why this is the least enjoyable of the AC series.

I had a bad feeling about the game at the outset. The first 1-3 hours are essentially a tutorial. Now, you might say to yourself, "If there are 1-3 hours of tutorial, then I'll be 100% ready to play the game." Well, you'd be wrong. I'm about 40% into the game and I still don't know how to do some of the tasks that should be simply. I had to go online to figure out how to do basic things like recruit other assassins.

The maps are awful and useless. While the "open" nature of this game is cool, it is nearly impossible to navigate the wilderness. The biggest problem is the map isn't topographical. Looking at a map you may see Point A and Point B. You think you can just travel in a straight line. This isn't so. There might be a mountain range in between the two. The mountain then has only one point where you can cross it or climb it, however you can't see it on the map. So you have to run the length of the mountain until you can find it. This can turn a something simple into a 20-30 minute task. Map aside, navigating the wilderness is time consuming. Horse don't really work in the wilderness. Something stops them up every 20 feet. A rock, a tree, a river, etc. Everything is impassable to a horse. So in order to travel around the wilderness, you need to run. It's time consuming. There are fast travel options that let you move from key place to key place, but most of the side games take place in the wilderness and aren't near key places.

One of the cool things about this game is the new software that makes the cities much more lively. They are filled with much more people, soldiers, animals, and goings-on than the other AC games. The downside to this? If you get you notoriety up in the city, it will take you 10-15 minutes of running before you can become anonymous. I will be mentioning time consuming aspects of this game. I'm not exaggerating. When I say 10-15 minutes, I mean it. This may not sound like a lot, but it is. You will be forced to run around the city like a chicken with your head cut off looking for a nook or cranny where there aren't British or Loyalist soldiers. They are on every corner. Also, hiding isn't as easy or available in this game. Bails of hay and wells are few and far between. This really takes away from the enjoyability of this game.

When the developers were spit balling ideas, they should have stopped about halfway through their session. This game feels like they through everything into it. A game can be too complex. A game can have too much content. Making money in the other AC games was fairly simply. You ran a business from your main hide out or bought stores and landmarks. In this game there is an extremely complex system used to make money. You need get homesteaders on your land, buy supplies, find recipes, have them make products using the recipes and supplies you have and then send convoys to places to sell you product. Sounds simple? It isn't. It's so freaking time consuming, complex and boring that I've decided to continue the game without bothering. I didn't buy Sim City, I bought Assassin's Creed. I want to spend the game going on quests, killing people, and buying/upgrading weapons. I don't want to spend hours putting together wooden barrels and then selling those to different vendors based on the highest rates I can get. If I wanted to do that, I would join a manufacturing company in real life and do that. This is a game. Let's not re-invent the wheel. Let's keep it fairly simple and enjoyable.

The Desmond missions are almost unplayable. There are no maps, no hints, nothing. You just go in one direction until something happens causing the game to dysynchronize. Then you do it again. And again. And again. It's nothing but trial and error. No skill involved. You just go into one area and maybe you get lucky. Then you move into another area and agents see you dysyncing the game. This happens over and over again.

Now for my biggest criticism of the game. The main story isn't fun. At all. It's extremely boring. Even worse, it's 10-20 seconds of game play, then saving screen, then cut scene. Those of you that have played it will know I'm not exaggerating. For example, you get locked up in prison. Game play starts. You walk down stairs, talk to a guy, then saving screen and clip scene. The next day in prison, you go downstairs and talk to a guy, then saving screen and clip scene. Then you need to walk to the gallows which is slow and takes 10 second. Then saving screen and clip scene. It's like this throughout the entire game. It may not sound bad, but when you start to get immersed in the game, it really becomes aggravating when game play stops every 20-30 seconds or when they go to game play for something that could easily have been taken care of in the clip scene. It becomes tedious.

Also, the clip scenes are terrible. There are times where you can't hear what people are saying. The sound effects of the battle in the background drowns out the main characters voices. Although, even when you can hear what they are saying, it isn't very interesting. About half way though the game I just began skipping them. Compare this to the other AC games where the clip scenes furthered the story in an interesting way.

What are the good aspects of the game? The hunting is fun. The fighting is improved, but simplified. You can essentially win every fight using two buttons. However, the best part of the game are the naval missions. One of the side games puts you as captain of a ship. You can go on missions that usually involve you sinking one or dozens of British ships. It is cool, innovative and fun. It is the only bright spot in an otherwise disappointing game.

I didn't want to write this review. I wanted this game to be good. I really did, especially after Resident Evil 6 and Resident Evil Racoon City turned out to be such horrible games. I was really looking forward to this, but I was let down.

Don't let this review stop you from buying it. I'd suggest waiting for the price to come down. I assume you can get a used one fairly soon as it has little to no replay value like it's predecessors. Instead, let this serve as a warning. When you play the game, after having read this, you can't pretend you were surprised at what an underwhelming game this was.

I'll be trading this game back, whereas I didn't trade back the other AC games. That should tell you all you need to know.

To display here how much I have enjoyed the Creed series to date would be impossible. The franchise took a chance and ran with it, I remember how new it felt, then Ezio came into the picture, and blew everything out the water, visually, and narratively. Altair was a engaging character, and Ezio was a fun loving personality and a half, which is probably why they centered 3 games around him. Now we are at Creed 3, and just what happened? Like everyone else, I got frustrated at chases in previous itinerations, especially getting a little too close to a wall, and our hero would try to run up it, ok, what did I expect? Here in 3, I could be feet away from a wall and I teleport just to attempt to run up, or attempting to get to an objective in a time limit, mistakenly jumping on a rail/ledge, and he wont get down, no matter how many times I slam the B button, or even try to jump off in one direction, and just jumps to another rail that I cant get down from. really? This has happened more times than I can count.

Some of the mechanics have failed more times than I can describe as well. Examples include defense, blocking and countering, typically while in the Animus (not as Desmond) you have indicators that let you know an enemy is about to strike, sometimes they just don't feel like showing up. I don't have a problem using my counter button without them, but they are helpful, especially when you have a very large crowd of enemies surrounding or crowding you, and you can't tell who is going to strike from where with all the movement. Some of the mission challenges are perplexingly painful as well, without giving any story away, a challenge that stood out was to "Not take damage from firing lines", no problem, so for the first volley, I managed to grab a human shield, almost immediately a second line prepped to fire, I attempted to grab another shield, and I couldnt do it, the option showed on the screen, but Connor just would not do it, at all. Even after retying several times, it just wouldn't execute the contextual movement. After getting frustrated, I decided to bypass that area, and found another way to the target, which worked out very well until I actually killed my target, right when I got my mark, a random enemy managed to shoot me with his musket before the cutscene, failing the optional objective, not a firing line, but a random enemy I couldn't see, wow.

When causing a stir in the towns, some of these can be frustratingly bad as well, especially if trying to escape. Somehow, despite the amazingly slow reload rates of a musket, when climbing a building to run off, they turn into semi-automatic weapons, and fire repeatedly, most times they miss, but there have been times when I would be hit numerous times in a row only to fall and see...2 people standing there with muskets. To capitalize on this, I have had areas that were clear when I had no noteriety whatsoever, then Reds would start chasing me unprovoked, which, more times than I care to admit, when I took care of the few coming for me, another group shows up, then another, another, another. I stood my ground with no where to run for upwards of 30 minutes, but they kept bringing in more for the fight. I finally gave up and just allowed myself to die.

Visually, there are typical pop-ins, clipping, etc, as with any other open world style game, but for the most part, the game is beautiful. The setting is gorgeous, lush forests, populated towns, with lots of color. Aside from the occasional issue, I can never mark the Creed series for having ugly, or drab settings.

Story wise, it's a bit thin, Connor has the personality of a brick, and is very hard to connect with his struggle. But don't let that sway you at all, he is a good character, but you will be missing Ezio fast.

To sum up, everything is here for Die-hard Assassin's Creed veterans, but you may feel quite underwhelmed. If you are new to the series, you wont be lost, this is a whole new time period with all new characters, but you may be thrown off by Desmond's side by not knowing the events leading up to 3, but the opening cinematic, or looking online will catch you up real quick, but as a new player, check out Assassin's Creed II, Brotherhood, and Revelations first, which you can get for beans now, or pick up the Ezio Trilogy Box Set.

Honest reviews on Assassin's Creed III

Great game, improved from the last Assassin's Creed. Really no complaints. Worth the money. Excellent graphics and audio, I really enjoyed the historical aspect as well.

Assassin's Creed III is the single worst AAA game I've ever purchased. The graphics are phenomenal aside from some minor shadow and texture quirks. The controls are good and generally responsive; occasionally Connor/Desmond will try to do something unintended due to the parkour trigger handling obstacles automatically. The story is flat out boring inside the Animus and only slightly more interesting outside of it. Luckily story and graphics are two of the least important parts of a fun game. Unfortunately, fun is something ACIII lacks.

What really killed the game for me was the absolute piss-poor game design choices made by the development team. Missions are pass or fail based on very black and white rules. A good example would be an early mission where you have to sneak into a stronghold and spy without being caught. If you are caught, the mission restarts at the beginning ignoring any progress you have made. Once you understand how the developers meant for you to complete the mission, it becomes very easy. A better and more logical approach would be to either loosen the rules on the mission and let users complete it in their own way or add some freaking checkpoints.

Another problem with the game is the sheer stupidity of being a one man murder machine. Last I checked, assassins were ninja-like killers who only fought face to face when they absolutely had to. When I completed my play-through I had nearly 800 kills, most obtained from fights. I don't think anyone could finish this game with less than 100 kills even if they wanted to; if they could, it would probably be a very frustrating play-through. This leads to the real problem with a game that has the word "assassin" in the title.

Ubisoft seems to have given up on stealth completely, replacing it with a mediocre "you attack, then I attack" combat focus. Enemies still attack one at a time with a random 2 man scripted attack thrown in to make you feel cool. Combat retains the same tried and true counter system as other games, though I think it requires less buttons (been a while since I played ACII). In some areas enemies re-spawn infinitely. so you can easily go on for an hour fighting, if you so desire.

Another problem with the minimal stealth system that is present is that once you get your wanted level up to 3, it's damn near impossible to go anywhere without the entire city being alerted. You can't talk to the town criers until the alarm goes away; if you are just hiding in a hay bale the second you step out, the morons are on you again. Sure, you can run around pulling down wanted posters, but those seem to be few and far between; either that or they are not marked well.

The one true redeeming quality as far as the ACIII gameplay is concerned are the awesome naval battles. Ubisoft could make an entire game based on the naval battles. Nothing is more satisfying than making ships explode with a well placed volley of cannon-ball fire. I have never seen naval warfare executed this well and I hope Ubisoft takes this ball and runs with it.

Overall, fans of the series will cream themselves playing this game. I really wanted to like ACIII because the time period is freaking awesome, but the design problems kept my frustration high. I give this game a ** instead of * for the awesome naval moments. Everything else is mostly forgettable. Anyone that thought the other games were just OK (like me) should avoid this poorly designed, pretty, mess of a game and check out Dishonored instead.

[Note: This is coming from a 21-year-old reviewer]

I don't see why people are having a problem with this game. Personally, I was a big fan of the 3d-cartoony style of RPGs from when they first made big splashes on the Dreamcast. Games like Grandia, Skies of Arcadia... I just love how these games are done, and Pokemon XD is no exception.

So what the XD for? An "extra dimension" of play. Apparently, all this really means is that you get a new character, a new storyline, and get to set out on the usual Pokemon adventures. Which isn't badI haven't played a Pokemon game yet I didn't like (excluding the smaller spinoff games, of course). This game supports the full cast of characters from Sapphire / Ruby / Emerald, and that's a whole lotta Pokemon.

You start as (since you name yourself, I'll call the character Hero), a kid who finds out, as usual, that you're responsible for saving the world by battling cute little monsters with monsters of your own. This time, you're given a sort of cybernetic arm attachment and headset that allows you to analyze and capture Shadow Pokemonwho must be converted back to the "light side" through love and affection in order to regain their former power.

What's new? If you played Colliseum, basically nothing. There's a new story, and the new Shadow Lugia Pokemon wandering the continent. Other than that, however, you'll only want this game if you just enjoy "catching them all" that much.

For fans like me who missed Colliseum, but have played the original games, you get to experience Pokemon in a well-thought-out 3d setting that's just gorgeous. Shadow Pokemon come equipped with Shadow type moves when you get them, so Pokemon you never would have thought about bringing out before suddenly become extremely useful as you'll always have Shadow moves to fall back on. Very nice. Speaking of whichyes, you have to steal Shadow Pokemon from the villians who use them for battling. What you'll really do is defeat all of the opponent's other Pokemon and from there, it's no different from capturing rare Pokemon in earlier gamesonly this time, the enemy can't run away, and if you accidentally defeat it instead of capturing, you can re-battle almost any time you want!

Never played Pokemon? It's an extremely easy to learn game, complete with insanely cute and cool Pokemon to battle, and it's family-friendly, as not even the wildest situations would rate above PG.

A lot of reviewers have said you can't catch wild Pokemonand that's not exactly true. There are many "spots" where you can leave out treats and try to capture wild Pokemonleaving more treats means Pokemon stay longer, so they're easier to capture. It's not quite like crawling through the grass in the old games, but it gets the job done. I saw a few other reviewers comment that converting the Shadow Pokemon takes too longjust through battling in the early game, I was able to cleanse more than one Pokemon per hour of play, and that included time it took to unlock an area to complete the process. Doesn't seem so bad to me! Plus, I haven't even opened up the secondary cleansing method available in the game.

OverallIt's another Pokemon game, and a pretty good one. It's colorful, it's cute, and it's been extremely fun to play. If you're plopping down money for a Pokemon game, isn't that exactly what you expect? Sure, stealing Shadow Pokemon and cleansing their hearts is a little differentbut it's fun. The only people I wouldn't reccomend this game to are Colliseum fanatics who don't feel like starting the experience overthe two games are basically very similar. My girlfriend played Colliseum tons, and I could barely pull her away from the Gamecube on this one, but apparently other Colliseum fans feel otherwise.

A fun trip back to the land of Orre with some familiar faces and some new friends. If you like Colosseum, you will find the upgrades in this game to be a godsend. I still don't enjoy the GameCube versions as much as the GBA ones, but everything that I WISHED I could do in Colosseum can be done in XD.

The main differences are as follows:

1. What we all wished for has happened .. you can SAVE the game anywhere, anytime, as often as you like! This was by far the most annoying thing that I discovered when I first bought Colosseum. I was so used to saving my game before any major battle, or before trying to catch a "one-shot-only" Pokemon. With XD, you no longer have to seek out a PokeCenter or a computer to save the game. This makes all the difference in the world. I am no longer "afraid" of what's lurking around the corner because I can always start over if I wasn't ready for what was lurking in the darkness! LOL

2. You can catch WILD POKEMON in XD. Another thing that I could never get used to in Colosseum. In XD, you are shown three "Poke Spots" where you leave treats (bait) for wild Pokemon. You have a Pokemon-detector that goes off if any wild Pokemon are munching your treats at a Poke Spot. Again, with the new "save feature", you can save the game and THEN go hunting. If you kill the wild Pokemon by accident, just restart.

3. There is a cool new Purification machine so you can purify up to NINE Pokemon at the same time. Very much a time saver. No more dragging around Pokemon that you never intend to use just to open up their hearts.

4. New story line. Some old towns, some new towns, but an interesting storyline throughout.

5. Graphics. Graphics are noticibly better in XD.

6. Shadow Moves. Instead of one shadow move, all shadow pokemon automatically come with at least two. There are many possible shadow moves .. all with different strengths and effects. Much more interesting.

7. New Pokemon. There are (at least) two new Pokemon. You can't catch them, but I think their appearance foreshadows a new batch of Pokemon which will probably be available in the next version of the game. One character even mentions that new Pokemon are being spotted all over the land.

All in all, much better than Colosseum. Just adding a few simple changes (most notably the "save feature") brings a whole new enjoyment to an older game. Pokemaniacs will not be disappointed with this purchase.

NOTE: As I have suggested in my other reviews, buy the NINTENDO POWER guide instead of the Prima guide. MUCH more complete.

Best Deals for Pokemon XD: Gale of Darkness

When I first read the online reviews about this game, I was really hesitant to buy it. Every review I read was negative, and seemed to concentrate on how you couldn't catch wild pokemon. This was very discouraging, because catching wild pokemon was the main reason I was going to buy XD. Anyway, I bought the game (after talking to the experts...my nephews), and I am here to tell you, that all the reviews are wrong (RTFM) you CAN catch wild pokemon. Granted, the way you catch them is not the same as in GBA games, but would you really expect the same thing on a 3-D GameCube game as you would on a GBA game? I hope not. You expect something different when you move from a handheld system to a home console. It's like comparing apples and oranges. They are meant to be different. The main issue is that the GBA games have been around forever, and people have gotten used to the same old way of doing things. If can learn to accept the fact that some things change as they get better, you will love this game.

That being said, here are 10 main differences between XD and Colosseum:

1. You start out with one level 10 base evolution pokemon (Eevee) instead of two higher level, already evolved pokemon. (I like this because it gives you the oppurtunity to chose the evolution of your Eevee and also allows you to power up "from the bottom").

2. You don't have to go to a friggin computer to save the game. You can save anywhere anytime. That was a BIG improvement.

3. Purifing pokemon is made a lot easier. The cool new thing with this is the purification chamber. Theoretically, you can purify 15 shadow pokemon at once (9 in the chamber 6 in your party).....not going to go into more detail...buy the game...check it out.

4. You don't have to wait until the end of the game to catch shadow pokemon you accidently knocked out (They brought back Miror B for this).

5. Pokemon storage system has been updated to be easier to use.

6. Music and XF are WAY better in XD than in Colosseum. They have also updated the move animations (and the trainers do a cheesy "rats" air punch when you hurt their pokemon).

7. You do not have a constant partner tagging along with you throughout the whole game.

8. Overall story is longer than Colosseum

9. Pokemon spots...you CAN catch wild pokemon. Once you progress enough in the game, you will be able to go to Pokemon spots and put out food (kind of like putting a pokeblock in a feeder at the safari in the GBA games). Go on about your business, and sooner or later, you get a beep on your P*DA saying a wild pokemon has appeared. Go catch it!

10. Shadow pokemon in Colosseum only know one move when you catch them and have a state called Hyper mode. The one move has recoil and hyper mode increases your critical hit ratio. In XD, the shadow pokemon have at least 2 moves when you catch them. One is a physical attack, the other is a stat modifier. The actual attacks vary. I have seen 7 different physical attacks and about 5 different stat modifier attacks. Also, the attacks do not have recoil. When you enter reverse mode (hyper mode in colosseum), it does not seem to raise your critical hit ratio, but you do recieve damage after every turn your pokemon stays in reverse mode. I guess this compensates for the no recoil attacks.

All in all, XD beats Colosseum hands down. It keeps the good parts of Colosseum and changes the bad parts. As for if XD beats the GBA games......don't get me started.

Honest reviews on Pokemon XD: Gale of Darkness

Pokemon XD: Gale of Darkness is the sequel to Pokemon Colosseum. (I think the "XD" stands for "Extra Dimension".)

It's not a "Pokemon Stadium"-type game; it's like Story Mode in Pokemon Colosseum.

The plot involves the unexpected return of Cipher, five years after its defeat in Colosseum. Cipher has returned with a vengeance, as is evidenced by its suddenly showing up with a massive Shadow Lugia. The Lugia steals a ship transporting Pokémon one night, causing numerous news reports, and when it turns out that Cipher is involved, a young boy with great Pokemon Trainer skills sets out to save the day from the bad guys.

Here are the pros:

1. You can now save wherever you want, like in the Game Boy Advance games! WAHOO!

2. The graphics have been improved since Colosseum. There are a lot of really nicely done "cutscenes", and the trainers react to what's happening in the battle--

i. e. the trainers act triumphant if they win, frustrated and/or anguished if they lose, etc.

3. The music and sound effects are quite good, as is the writing.

4. There is a lot to this game--I like games with a lot in them (unless I'm really anxious to find out what happens at the end).

5. Not terribly violent--if a character is defeated in battle, they just faint (they never die or anything like that. Actually, this holds true for all Pokemon games, and I think it's a really nice touch).

Cons:

1. Like with Colosseum, you can't play as a girl. But I really like the character you get to play as, so it's not really that much of a problem. (He looks like Lan Hikari from MegaMan Battle Network.) I also imagine it would be really hard to have to animate the entire game twice over--once with the girl character and once with the guy character--so it's sort of understandable.

2. You can't revisit cutscenes. Really, though, this is true for almost all video games, but still, I'd like to be able to see them again.

3. If you want to start a new game, it erases everything you did. I can't stand this, and it unfortunately holds true for all Pokemon games. They should let you start a new game and keep the one you have in progress at the same time. (AAAAAAAARRRRGGGGGHHHHH!!!!!!)

In conclusion, Pokemon XD: Gale Of Darkness is a must-have for any Pokemon fan, and the expense is well worth it.

This game is adventurous and fun. You can kick Cipher bu**. You have to capture and purify shadow pokemon. After playing a while you can enable Pokemon trading with your GBA games. However, you can't trade shadow pokemon. You can also battle with GBAs if you have the right cable. The game has a story line and you might have to go online to find clues when you get stuck or buy the guide. It's not easy to purify Lugia. Once you snag Lugia that is. XD is a lot like the GBA Pokemon games but the graphics are much much better and you have to catch shadow pokemon and purify them in order to purify Lugia. You can still trade with your friends if they have Pokemon GBA games like Ruby or Emerald. The GBA games have to have access to the Hall of Fame before they can start trading. This game is a lot of fun if you are already a fan of the Pokemon games. There is enough new stuff and things to do and a new story line to keep you interested for hours and hours of fun.

When the new Family Game Night Nintendo Wii game came out, I knew I'd want to try it. I have the other three games and love them, EA and Hasbro definitely make a good combination. That being said, "Family Game Night 4: The Game Show" is good, but its not my favorite in the bunch.

Family Game Night 4 contains the games: Scrabble Flash, Connect 4 Basketball, Bop It Boptagon, Sorry Sliders, and Yahtzee Bowling. Each game features its own game plus another version of it. Playing these games on the Wii definitely give the original board games a twist and make for great family fun. The controls are a little funky, they take a few turns getting used to but then its okay. Connect 4 is neat because you shoot chips like a basketball hoping to make a Connect 4! Yahtzee Bowling is just like it sounds but it a lot faster as you roll three times. Sorry Sliders has you sliding Sorry tokens to a center ring, with the second version including Sumo guys! Bop It has you pushing different buttons to make different noises.

Finally, Scrabble Flash is my favorite. I love word games so moving titles around to match up letters is right up my alley. You compete against another player to make words from a set of five letters.

The best part of the game is silly Mr. Potato Head. He wears funny clothes and is a great game show host. Oh and rather than playing each game individually you can also play a Game Show version where you compete for cards by playing the different games.

I purchased this game thinking it would be fun for the FAMILY but was furious to find out it only supports TWO-PLAYERs!!!! I do not recommend this game in any way! This is not a FAMILY game night game! Hasbro you really blew it with this decision!

I highly recommend this version of Hasboro Family Game Night to anyone with small children who have a love of games. It is set up like a game show and is easy for wee ones to navigate. We played with a 6yr old and a 4 1/2 yr old and they got to complete most of the task with very little assistance. The Scrabble was challenging for the younger one but seems to be a great spelling exercise for Kindergarten and up.

The games are okay, but it doesn't let more than one person play at a time. you have to let each person play out the entire game before the second person has a chance.

great little collection of puzzles that you can get on XBLA but I prefer to own my games on disc.

My son was thrilled with this game. He has the Worms game for Wii and was excited to see that there was a version for Xbox. He prefers the Xbox version.

Best Deals for Worms Collection - Xbox 360

Worms games are turn based strategy where the goal often is eliminating the other team, using a variety of weapons, think of the old game 'Scorched Earth' only with movement and you get the general idea of what worms is all about. All games have single player and multiplayer (online and offline) up to 4 players.

This collection contains three worms games:

Wormsa 'reboot' of worms for the Xbox 360 console. Decent graphics, good controls, though the variety of weapons feels lacking compared to the last 2D worms game 'worms world party' on PC. NO extra DLC for this game (even the free ones).

A good game overall.

Worms 2: Armageddon (not to be confused with Worms: Armageddon) This game is easily the best worms game in the collection, it has a huge selection of weapons and tools, and worm customization. Included are 6 DLC packs -need to be installed from the disc first.

A Great game overall.

Worms Ultimate Mayhem: This game is actually a remake combining two games in one (worms 3D & Worms 4: Mayhem -meaning lots to do and unlock). The graphics are good, though the 'pixelated' shadows are a bit distracting. The biggest drawback to this game for me is the pace, there is a second or two lag between turns and for people who try to complete missions under par time will find this annoying. Also the loading times being VERY LONG (loading missions from the disc takes about 45 sec) which becomes tiring when you have a few missions that only take about 2 minutes to complete. Also NO DLC for this game either.

A decent game overall, despite its issues.

Overall I a good collection.

I love worms, ever since the original back in 1995 in DOS, I'm glad to see these Xbox live arcade games on one disc. I would recommend this game collection to anyone with an Xbox 360 who loves good old fashioned strategy games.

UPDATE: I was able to install and use ALL DLC for Worms 2: Armageddon that was on the disc

Honest reviews on Worms Collection - Xbox 360

Fun games and the worms are really cute and entertaining. Love some of the weapon choices like the banana bombs and exploding sheep! Everyone in my family's enjoyed playing it (from my dad to my 10 year old sister). It's a good price for getting three games in one package. The only negative thing is that add-ons to Worms Armageddon 2 don't work without internet connection. Other than that, I'd say it was totally a game worth buying!

I didn't have a problem with the game freezing up my XBOX, and I'm sorry to hear it happened to (seemingly so many) others. The story isn't the best, and the inventory system is clunkier than the original. But a lot of improvement has been made. And you have to play it for a while to notice the better differences.

The good

There is no Mana bar anymore. If you are a primary Will user, this will be a godsend. No more having to worry about how much juice you have left. If you have the spell, you can use it as much and often as you want. I loved that. To extend on this, Magic is better balanced against melee weapons, so you don't feel like I did in the first one, that the spells were a nice addition, but not typically too practical in a difficult fight.

The game has a fairly complex economy system. Much more complex than I've seen in any other game. You can buy nearly every building in every city. There are exceptions...but not many. And when I say that, I mean it. You could probably count the buildings/structures you cannot buy on one hand. Which leads to the next thing I liked: When you rent out houses or buy vendor stalls and shops, you accumulate wealth without having to work for it. And, as is normal, you can regulate how much you charge. More than the town average will corrupt you, less with make you more pure.

After the main quest, there are still jobs and quests available that take a while to complete. I've probably put a good 30 hours into the game, and I still have a lot that can be done.

You four-legged friend. I think it's the coolest addition to the game. He will help you somewhat in fights, he will sniff out treasure for you to dig up, and he will growl when you approach an enemy, before you see them. As well, he/she has a number of expressions to compliment your own...which are adorable.

The graphics are really great. They are similar to the first game in terms of coloration and...well, Fableness. It's colorful and there are lots of ambient noises out in the open.

The leveling system is improved by default. Since in this world 500 years after the first, the Heroes Guild is utterly destroyed. The Chamber of Fate is the most intact piece that us left. But this means that there are no experience portals for Skill, Will, and Strength. So as soon as you build up enough experience, you can immediately go to the Abilities section in your options and upgrade you skills.

The music is pretty, and similar to the first. It's a perfect compliment to the environment. No long explanation needed. It's just well used.

The Okay

To be honest, I was disappointed in the guns. The rifles/pistols/crossbows. I didn't find them as evenly balanced against all of the others. They are nice from long range, but I didn't find them as useful as I found the bows in the original game. Not bad by any means, but I think if they caused more damage in relation to the other types of skills you possess, I would have used them more.

The "free roaming." On the back of the box it's said that "Roads are for suckers" accompanied by a picture of someone hopping a fence. Well yes, this is possible. However, what is not possible is multiple paths to the same destination. There is more substance -aroundthe roads, and there are more caves, but you cannot, for instance, leave the road and go up and over the mountain to get somewhere faster.

The new mapping system. I remember about a year ago, Peter Molyneux told us all that the original Fable was too easy. You could play the game by looking only at the displayed Mini Map. And he was right. But their solution? Now instead of a Mini Map, you have a glowing golden trail to follow. You -canturn it off, but to be honest, I didn't really see this as a solution. It's just a different version of the same thing.

The bad

The story, I have to say. It's not that great, and it's not actually that long. But, I suppose I couldn't expect something on the scale of Oblivion or Lost Odyssey after the first one was so short as well. There were really no twists. The beginning really had me intrigued, with the box and such. But then it kind of went exactly how I expected it to go. There was no...substance, to any of the characters. Except between you and your dog. At the end of the game one of the characters calls your characters the best friend she ever had...and it's meaningless. You don't spend that much time together, and are absent for a long time. You don't know that much about them.

The Inventory system. Like the last game it is nicely divided into subsections. Weapons, Clothing, Food, Potions, Trophies, Books/Documents, etc. However, when you choose, for instance, to consume a potion that will give you more Strength Experience, it closes the menu and you go back to the game. So if I want to lose weight by eating celery, I have to press Stars>Items>Food>Celery. And then repeat it. It just gets to be a hassle. I wish you could do what you need to do, and then unpause the game yourself.

Weight. If it's your first playthrough, you will probably, like me, end up overweight. I didn't even realize it was happening, because when you first play through you probably don't have that much money, so you buy whatever will heal you. This seems necessary because, 1. If you get knocked out (killed), you get a new scar, and 2. Potions and Food are a lot less plentiful than in the last game. So when you get badly injured, you eat whatever comes up on the D-Pad. There are lots and lots of things that can make you fat. Cheese, meat, pie, some beers. The only normal item that makes you lose weight is celery. The ONLY. It took me about 5 hours of interactive game play to finally get back to even with my weight. Sleeping for weeks at a time to give the produce vendors time to restock on celery, buying and eating it, sleeping again. It got tiring, very fast. So my recommendation to you if you haven't bought the game yet and are reading this...stick with potions, apples, and carrots.

(Too long didn't read? The game is worth your $60.)

I never played the original Fable because I was living Warcraft 7-days-a-week :) I heard the original was pretty good though it was short (content-wise) and might have been a little over-hyped? Well this time around I completely ignored the hype and early reviews and just bought the game. So far, I am not disappointed. I'm out of the training area, have my first spell, beat my first mini-boss, and showed off my first trophy. This is a really good game so far.

The combat system flows really nice once your get used to it and it's super simple one button for Melee, one for Ranged, one for Magic.

Everything you expect in a good RPG is there : XP, Levels, Skills, Weapons Upgrades, Socketed Items, Gold, Loot Drops, Condoms, and Babies.... Umm. Yes, did I forget to mention it's rated M for mature. So make sure the receiver of this game is mature enough. It's all in good spirit and there aren't any secret nude cut scenes that I'm aware of. Of course this can lead to the responsibilities of a family, having children, buying houses, providing for them which sounds like a ton of fun but I'll save this part to the end after I defeat the world and wave fireballs in the air first!

Otherwise, one of things I like about this game is that there are so many different types of content. Talking statues, random items, magic books, treasure chests, treasures to dig up, you have a pet dog that you can train, you can swim above water, you can even buy and rent houses as well as own shops for income; or head down to the pub and gamble your way to riches.

There just seems to be a good amount of things you can do in the game and of course the graphics and storyline are pretty darn good.

I think they did a good job with no bad surprises so far. So if you think you might like this game there is a very good chance that you will.

Best Deals for Fable II

The 2008 season of great games has officially begun.

Fable 2, as it has been advertised, is all about choices and the repercussions of those choices. From the start of the game, these choices shape the very world around you, whether a town turns into a slum or a glorious economic stronghold.

The combat system is remarkably simple, and remarkably fun. It's simple in that 3 buttons control sword, pistols(and crossbows, etc), and magic. But it turns out to be an amazing amount of fun and flows rather fluidly between the three.

The overall feel of the game is excellent, much better than the original fable. The graphics, as you can see if you look at any gameplay videos, is top shelf. The music is also great, and really sets the mood of the game.

The only downfalls of this game are in co-op and expressions. Co-op doesn't allow for you to drop your character's weapons or looks into your friends game, only your experience and skills (hopefully this will be fixed in an update). The expressions wheels, while interesting and simple, are strange since it makes for zero words said for your character (just a lot of farts).

All and all though, excellent game, definitely worth the wait. Pick this one up.

Honest reviews on Fable II

I would've rated this a 3.5, but since you can't I rounded down.

MAY CONTAIN SPOILERS

What I liked:

Less scarring. In the original it was much too easy to get scarred up early on

Buying real estate (and not having to keep running back to collect your profit)

The option to be a woman

Having kids (although I could've lived without seeing them pick their noses and rear ends)

More expressions

Naming my family... too bad they were just "nicknames"

Everyone having names and their own likes/dislikes. Made it more personal

No more aging when leveling up (Not enjoyable to have to decide to be old and strong or young and wimpy)

The "loose" citizens. Yes, my character was a ho

Graphics

The slo-mo shots in battle

Gargoyle hunting

Ties to the past/original

Dying clothes/hair

The jobs and sidequests

Missions involved more work, often sending you to several different places

Experience potions

The women's voices didn't sound like old hags when they asked for wedding rings, ala Fable

More variety in people. Although most of them weren't exactly lookers

Stealing. My favorite hobby

The dog. I had more of an attachment to my dog than to my family

What I did *not* like:

The aiming system with guns/bows sucks. In Fable 1 it was so easy, just double click to zoom in and decapitate bandits. Another favorite hobby, and missed it here

I much preferred the medieval setting in the original

Playing as a woman was fun...until you leveled up and she became a hideous Amazonian she-beast. I ended up concentrating on Will so as not to look so much like a transvestite. But then the glowing Will lines all over weren't pretty either

Stolen items were mostly junk, and you didn't know what it was until you took it. There was no way to drop something worthless. Who wants a rotten apple?

Missed the old lightning spell where you could zap several enemies at once

Inability to hurt or kill Reaver. I so wanted to

Kicking animals is not funny

You never got to see Rose again

Your kids constantly on your a** so you can't get a moment alone with your spouse

Trying to gain the affection of just one person draws a crowd, and they're all affected by your actions

And the absolute **WORST** thing in the entire game: you're followed EVERYWHERE. I cannot say enough how much I **HATED** that. It actually took a lot of enjoyment out of the game for me. When you're well-known you have mobs following you down the street, all asking to marry you. Sometimes the crowd is so thick you can't get through and they repeat the same things in unison until you want to rip your hair out. They even follow you into your house like they own the place. Out on the streets is bad enough, but in your BEDROOM? Ridiculous. I wanted some quiet time with my family; next thing I know there are strange kids dancing around the room along with a few adults chatting me up. Wtf, go away! There's no way to get rid of them. Trying to scare them also scares your family. They really need to let you shut your front door to keep these idiots out

..Okay, rant over

By the way, what does it say about a game that, while playing it, you yearn for the original?

All in all though, this game has its problems but is still worth a playthrough if you liked Fable.

Fable II, the aptly-named sequel to Fable, hit the markets a while back. I didn't have a way to play it then, but I do now, so even if this review isn't terribly timely, I hope you'll find it helpful.

The game takes place in the world of Albion, a beautiful, lovely world somewhere between the Renaissance and the Enlightenment. In that it quickly differentiates itself from most fantasy worlds.

You play the Hero. You don't get a name, but you can get titles (like Lionheart, Executioner or the NAMBLA-friendly, Chicken Chaser). You can be male or female, good or evil. You can marry the opposite sex or the same sex. You can customize your looks with new hair styles, tattoos, facial hair and hair dye. You get all sorts of different clothes to pick from, and get scars when you die. You also age.

In addition, you get a whole slew of skills. You can learn how to chop wood, for example. If that's not exciting enough, you can also tend bar! Blacksmithing, bounty hunting and a couple other jobs round things out.

If jobs aren't your thing, you can go on a whole series of quests, though not very many. During these quests, you can earn gold which you can use to buy all the usual stuff, plus real estate. Yes, if you want you can become the next Donald Trump! One of my friends has done this and basically owns every bit of property that can be owned.

This is an action RPG, which is different from regular RPGs in that you don't select options from a menu screen. No, instead you bash, smash and crush your enemies by repeated button-mashing. Think of the Zelda games. You have both melee weapons and ranged weapons as well as a series of spells, some of which can be lots of fun!

Along the way, you have a dog acting as your faithful companion. Allegedly he helps in fights, but not so you'd notice. What he mostly does is sniff out treasure, and that's a damn nice thing, given how well-hidden some of the treasure chests are.

Graphics wise, this is one of the most beautiful games on any system. Everything looks gorgeous, even the darker and more unpleasant spots.

If it seems like I'm focusing overly much on the non-story aspects of the game, it's cause the story, well, kind of falls short. It's the usual "fight against someone who killed your sister" kind of plot. Nothing memorable. It's also rather brief. There's nothing wrong with it, per se, but it's not very original.

Still, the joy is in the journey, and this is one of the best games of its kind out there. Highly recommended!

Let me first off say that I'm a mindless drone when it comes to Fifa and I'll buy each new rendition on an annual basis. With that said, I also hate to wait for things so I went ahead and got the early access to Fifa 13 last Friday. I'll quickly tell you what's different between Fifa 12 and Fifa 13; whether you should throw your money at EA or simply wait until Black Friday or later.

Attacking Intelligence Translation = Players with higher ratings will relentless run towards the goal without you pushing LB/pass. They'll usually draw a defender who has marked them and you'll be able to make more plays.

Complete Dribbling Translation = You get to dribble in a 360 degree manner and exit in which ever direction you choose. Admittedly I'm not the most amazing player but to those who are talented at Fifa games you will surely be able to make use of this.

1st Touch Control Translation = Players lose control of the ball when receiving passes and holding down RT. To avoid losing the ball just let go of the RT and receive the pass before sprinting again. This was a very nice example of addition by subtraction. No matter the difficulty, AI will occasionally lose control of the ball and allow you to poach it away. I really enjoyed this "new" feature because it did make games more interesting and fun to play.

EA Sports Football Club Translation = Use the EA Points you collect by doing in-game tasks and skills games to "buy" virtual items. These virtual items range from boots (only about 12 available), "retro" kits (only about 8 available), balls (only about 8), and other in-game "bonuses". These in-game bonuses range from things like increased coins per FUT games, "financial takeovers" where your club in manager mode is bought and you get a large sum of money to spend, etc. The `selection was awfully disappointing and I'm hoping they add throughout the year.

New Teams = Basically all of the same leagues and clubs from last year with the exception that they added the Saudi league.

New Stadium = They added White Hart Lane and King Fahd Stadium but lost Nou Camp

International Manager = This is built into the manager mode where your performance at your club will attract offers from many National teams. You would then be manager of a club and an international team simultaneously. As the IT manager you get to select your 25 man team from the entire pool of international players and then play all the friendlies, qualifies, and tournament matches.

Manager Mode= They added in fake World Cup, Euros, and other tournaments. Also you can now play their fake Champions/Europa league in the first season rather than wait until the second.

Transfers = The transfers system is given a face lift. The transfer screen is now a note book where you are given new options when buying and selling players. When attempting to buy a player, you may "enquire" about them from their clubs as to whether they would sell the player and also how much you would have to offer them. You're also allowed to include players when trying to buy.

When selling/buying a player, you are told a range of how much the player is worth or how much you should offer depending on the player's form. I read that they tried to cut back on the ridiculous transfers, especially in the first transfer window of each season... THEY DIDN'T. There is still massive movement between big time players; for example, Higuain to Inter, Ozil to Chelsea, Prince-Boateng to Man City. Every transfer window afterwards continues the trend.

Match day = A nice addition. If you're not into playing season mode or ultimate team.. then whenever you play a match day game.. commentary and players ratings will be affected by their real life counterparts. I always hated hearing the same commentary for a year and I think that with this new addition it will lessen the game from getting stale.

Animations = They added a few new player celebrations which I didn't really care for but they did include more realistic player celebrations, albeit, only between two players where they will embrace like they did in real life.

Impact Engine = This was a great addition to Fifa 12 and in this year's rendition they improved the physics and removed the comical flopping.

Skills Games = They added 8 "mini games" with a variety of objectives ranging from chip shots, penalty shots, passing, dribbling, etc.

Layout/presentation = They changed the presentation this year but I could not have cared less. The presentation now includes a soccer ball in the background that opens and closes whenever you select things; also when you start games the opening presentations include the clubs badges on these soccer balls that open and close, etc. You have to see for yourself.

Conclusion: I think that EA was especially conservative this year. They opted to "perfect" (or at least try to) rather than innovate with another truly new feature. Gameplay is more fun with the "one-touch" because mistakes can become costly or rewarding and it adds another variable onto the pitch. The improved impact engine makes the player collision look very life-like and because they took out the crazy flopping makes it that much more realistic. Although with yet another yearly game, I find that EA has either given up or been too cheap to add new leagues to the game. They also need to add more stadiums. How can they go through each year and add one league or 1-2 new stadium? My biggest gripe is that I'm a shoe buff and to see only 4 pairs of Nikes and only 5 pairs of adidas (albeit in several more colors)? This is why I like 2K sports more than EA sports, they is no stone they leave unturned. With that all said, if you are playing Fifa 12 and completely satisfied with it, you probably should not fork over another 60 bucks to get Fifa 13. There are no game-changing new features that will make you throw your money at them. However, if the gameplay from Fifa 12 left you annoyed or unhappy, then Fifa 13 is worth getting because EA tried to fix the rough patches. Personally to me, this game is Fifa 12.5. But at least EA is making their Fifa franchise better every year and not letting them regress like NCAA and Madden. Cheers.

Pros:

-1st touch control +++

-Better manager mode ++

-More realistic Impact Engine ++

-Skills games +++

-Match day games +

Cons:

-Lack of new teams, especially South American leagues and the Turkish league

-Lack of boots

-EAS FC catalog was a huge disappointment in the selection available

-Still no licenses to major tournaments

-No innovative new features

UPDATE:

-The more I play the Skills challenges, the more I enjoy them. Each of them: the penalty shootout, passing, dribbling drills, etc help a certain part of your game that you would not really have had a chance to PRACTICE otherwise. What did Fifa have before? The practice arena where you're literally mashing buttons to try moves and ultimately just fool around? Not every one is a pro when it comes to this game and EA actually came up with a good idea to help newer and less experienced players become BETTER at the game they made. Kudos for that.

-I find it especially annoying during Manager mode when a robotic British voice reads off the scores of games that are not my own, but simply the ones in the same league. I don't really care to hear a creepy voice talk when I'm playing.. I haven't found a way to disable this.

-Resigning players has reverted back to before Fifa 12. By this I mean your players will NOT accept your offers no matter how much money you offer if you do NOT offer them the years they "want". So if you want to lock up your stars, you're not going to be able to. This minor detail annoys me because when you offer them extensions and they don't sign, then the fake news reel goes BALLISTIC and says, "oh, Xavi is refusing to resign with Barca"...... SMH like that crap would really happen.

-I take back the whole "EA removed the comical player collisions". They DIDNT. It does happen RARELY but I just saw Messi get KNEED and fly 10 yards in the other direction.

I am a first time FIFA player on XBOX, I got this game as a "in-betweener" when other games weren't out and I needed something to play around with. Then I started playing FIFA13 and found out it is super addicting and I would be shunnning other gamesto build my soccer career.

If you are a first time player, you'll want to spend a lot of time getting a feel for the controls of the game. Speed and power depend on how long you hold down buttons and you don't want to overshoot the goal all the time. There are a ton of combinations for special moves, bending shots, etc. that also take time to get the hang of. Actual games seem to be the easiest part, especially if you control the whole team.

I have just scratched the surface of player management and carerr modes and I don't even know what playing online against others would be like. I can tell you the game is not multi-player centric, I've played hours and hours on single player mode and have no complaints about playability or value for my money.

I totally recommend this game for anyone interested in a good soccer game.

Seems to be more realistic than any of it's previous incarnations, which is what I find to be the most valuable trait in a sports video game (realism). Noticeablely different in its pacing (slower), and the tweaked physics requires more skill in passing and control on the ball. Not much wrong with it.

Honest reviews on FIFA Soccer 13 - Xbox 360

I've played Fifa for years and owned each copy since 2006. I've enjoyed the new movement engines which has made passing, moves and formations much more realistic and fluid. There are tons of menus and options to play the game (create your own player, online, club play, etc). However, I don't ever recall the online play being so poor. Graphics are fine, but my concerns are with connection and online versus play. Often times, I lost opponents in the menu screen. After countless tests I've confirmed it's likely just EA servers (have always been questionable Madden user as well). My biggest problem with this game is that unless you play with Real Madrid or Barcelona, this game is ultimately rigged. It is nearly impossible to beat those squads. This may be more of a problem with player rating inflations (Ronaldo, Messi), but EA needs to alter the settings such that lower tier 4 star squads (everton, bayern, etc) can't be matched with those. I want to play with fun squads, but not feel forced to play with 2 and 3 stars. It's killing the fairness and fun of online play...which I believe has come to define this franchise. Hope EA looks to make these changes soon

I have been playing FIFA since FIFA 95. Since FIFA '10, this game has been getting better and better. FIFA 13 is the best entry in the series yet, but I have to take a star away for failing to fix some major flaws that have been present in the last few games.

1) Connection issues: one of the most frustrating things of all time. I have played this game on many different internet connections, and had issues everywhere. I routinely get stuck in the arena, and only going back to the dashboard allows you to escape (or signing out of Live, but then the game crashes when I sign back in...). The EA servers are down way too often. It's also pretty common to get matched up against someone, and then the game loses connection and you have to search again. Seriously EA, this is not rocket science.

2) Cluster situations: way too often, there will be an absurd chain of events that leads to a cheap goal. This can be anything from players falling over each other to the ball magically getting through several defenders. Look up some videos on YouTube, and you will see how it can be extremely irritating. Myself and my roommate have been close to smashing the Xbox in rage.

3) Goalkeeper charging: rarely works to the players advantage. The goalkeeper will often completely miss the player with the ball, leading to a goal. If the player with the ball changes direction even slightly, then suddenly the goalkeeper becomes lost & clueless. It drives me insane. Also, if the goalkeeper is charging, the attacker just needs to use the finesse shot; for whatever reason, it works every time.

4) Goals from corners/crosses: HAPPEN TOO OFTEN. Probably 30% of corners result in a headed goal that is impossible to defend. It's ridiculous. It rewards people for taking shots from stupid angles just because they know it will result in a corner.

Those are all the negatives I can think of. This is generally a very fun game with a very high skill cap. The positives are obvious and frequently mentioned in other reviews, so I won't mention them. But if you're looking for a good sports game or a good competitive game, this is awesome.

It's rare that a game gets panned and, upon reading about it, I realize it's the perfect game for me. Earth Defense Force (EDF) 2017 is a bit of a clunker, with unrealistic physics, repetitive enemies, and a terrible vehicle mechanic. Folks accustomed to the first-person smoothness of Halo or the gritty action of Gears of War would most certainly turn up their nose at EDF.

But I loved every single level of it.

You've probably guessed what the plot is: flying saucers invade and deposit hordes of giant ants, spiders, robots, and Godzillas--sorry, "Dino-mechs"--onto the Earth's surface in an attempt to take over the word, Independence Day-style. You are Storm 1, EDF's premiere ground soldier. You and a bunch of your hapless fellow soldiers are tasked with repelling alien invaders several times your size with nothing but handheld weapons. Remember Starship Troopers? It's like that.

With apologies to Winston Churchill: You fight on the seas and oceans, you fight in the air, you defend your planet, whatever the cost may be. You fight on the beaches, you fight on the landing grounds, you fight in the fields and in the streets, you fight in the hills...and you never, ever surrender. From Aliens-style bug hunts in cramped tunnels to bitter Children of Men-style warfare in ruined cities, EDF drops you into every environment imaginable, puts a gun in your hands, points you at a giant monster and asks you to take it on mano-a-giant monstero.

The enemies are glorious to behold. The giant robots are 1950s style automatons reminiscent of the Iron Giant, clunking their way through city streets with gigantic beam weapons, one eye, and weird rope-like limbs. The giant dinosaurs breathe atomic fire and smash through buildings and troops.

And then there are the bugs. Lots and lots and lots of bugs. The giant ants squirt acid or bite, swarming in an erratic pattern just like their tiny brethren. The giant spiders, a combination of tarantula and wolf spider, jump AND spit webs. As if this weren't bad enough, sometimes EDF throws all of these types of enemies at you at once.

The other major part of the game are the weapons. There are intelligent miniguns that track monsters just like in the extended cut of Aliens, bullets that ricochet off of the walls, flame throwers, grenade launchers, sniper rifles, acid sprayers, time release mines, rocket launchers, guided missiles, and of course shotguns. Each has a reload time, although you rarely run out of ammo, and a range and damage, so there's plenty of variety. The more enemies you kill, the more weapons and armor you pick up. There are also vehicles, including tanks, helicopters, hoverbikes, and mechs, but the controls are clunky.

EDF revels in its size. Everything is destructible, from bikes and cars on the street to skyscrapers. And they can all be taken out with one well-placed (or poorly placed) missile. Bugs run up the buildings and attack from above--but if you shoot one of the buildings down, the bugs just float to the ground without a scratch. In fact, there's really no penalty for falling (including blowing up the building you're standing on). I destroyed quite a few buildings and struggled to run out of the falling shadow, only to watch the rubble fall right through Storm 1.

On the other hand, the UFOs that fly overhead are also a destructible part of the scenery. As a result, there's a massive sense of scale as you fire rockets at the giant spaceships floating above you; it's exhilarating to watch one of the UFOs crash to the ground after several well-placed shots. And since the things are so darned big, they often fall on TOP of you.

The AI is dumb as rocks, of course. While there are occasional bosses, this game is mostly about blowing up the entire scenery. Sure, Storm 1 leads the EDF troops once their captain dies. And the dialogue really is hilarious: it's been structured so that they talk in vague terms about the enemy to increase the applicability of spoken phrases. Here's a typical snippet of dialogue:

"Where's the enemy?"

"The enemy is out of range!"

"Are you scared?"

"Shut up!"

This silliness adds up to the perfect B-movie dialogue. Even better, the troops are almost of no help whatsoever and actually a threat--though buildings fall through them, your troops can be hit by friendly fire. I killed off the entire platoon several times when an idiot EDF soldier ran in front of my rocket launcher.

About the only unforgivable flaw is that the game's difficulty levels are widely variable. I beat some levels with ease on hard while others were impossible. Unfortunately, EDF does not count beating a level on hard difficulty as beating it on normal difficulty. Since EDF awards points on Xbox live only upon completing every level on one difficulty, switching back and forth between normal and hard levels meant I ended up with no credit for beating the game at all.

You have to be a certain kind of person to appreciate EDF. If you've ever enjoyed THEM!, Tarantula, Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow, Godzilla, Starship Troopers, Aliens, Independence Day, War of the Worlds, or if you just happen to like blowing things up but suck at games like Gears of War and Halo...then grab your rocket launcher, soldier, because the EDF needs you!

Bought this based upon reviews on Amazon and thought what the hell $20. Yes, it seems to be brainless shoot-em up in the mode of Serious Sam somewhat which I'm a fan of but damn is this thing addictive. It starts out sort of Starship Troopers corny and seems damn is this easy but damn does it build level by level. The intensity of the Hardest/Inferno levels are amazing and the vibrations on the controller so extreme the controller is about to pop out of my hands.

As others have noted this doesn't pretend to be an RPG beauty combat game but you best use some strategy as the game progresses the intensity levels are extreme. In some levels the difference between Hardest and Inferno are quite dramatic. Also, the destructibility of the surroundings is amazing while you battle and the scope and vastness of enemies are. Oh well, if you need safe escapism for a cheap $20 this is the ticket IMO.

I finished Halo3 on Legendary several times but this is a totally different creature again in the mode of the Serious Sam series IMO. Fun as hell in it's own way. I've bought so many games that sucked it's wonderful when you come across sleepers you've never heard of before.

As a follow-up --Completed at 100% levels three times and 100% weapons (171) and no second controller cheating.

TIPS ---

Do your harvesting of stamina on Level 52 "Inferno" at "normal" which is easy but the quickest way to farm stamina follow-up TIP if you don't do second controller cheating.

Farm this level without destroying either overhead ship in part two of the level once you have a high level of stamina and higher grade weapons as I accidentally discovered that you about triple the armor drops and so much health drops you can't be destroyed (on NORMAL Difficulty) you can farm stamina in a few hours that would take you a week to do with the other levels. However, don't try this tactic on Hardest or Inferno Top skill levels as there is no way to survive the onslaught use normal to harvest Armor for stamina and remember there are a finite number of drops so pick-up everything you can since it can eventually limit the number of armor drops. I completed this level on Inferno using the rotation of XEXR Turret and the Top Rocket Launcher and a ton of drop and rolls and seeking health while turrets repeatedly reload it seemed next to impossible since you cannot be close to the UFO's and need the EDF Laser rifles to help destroy the onslaught of the second part of the level or your SOL. There are 53 levels btw at 5 levels of difficulty.

Easily the most fun for $20 ever --I've been playing so long that it's amazing the details and areas to explore and different ways to win or lose. Climb up certain buildings staircases to the rooftop to snipe from a distance or go crimson level or sweeping and fight from the under the mountain road tunnel instead of the beach or hillsides it takes awhile to defeat this way but it makes some seemingly impossible levels as doable surviving strategy. I went weeks until I noticed the Tunnel and started using it as a retreat/refresh battle area.

Most posted walkthroughs are useless on Inferno difficulty level though You can throw the Walkthrough rec's out the window at Hardest and Inferno Level it becomes more of a chess match strategy and a lot of luck and stamina at times and huge timing since you'll be sapped and cannot see any health drops and it's almost as if the AI cheats from time to time. Some levels just seem impossible at Inferno and I have no desire to redo once complete like the underground segments and don't go back after once finished. Personally I find them creepy even though I've beaten them several times because you have to.

The vehicles are the worst part of the game except for the airbike for quick retreats and planting of turrets and getaways but they get destroyed extremely easy. Chopper is interesting but nearly impossible to effectively aim and destroy anything and they all get destroyed within seconds of any contact so you'll avoid them if you want to survive at the harder levels.

Anyone that fails to play this game through in Inferno difficulty just try and complete level 43 Spearhead without harvesting the Top weapons you are toast since spawning never stops while your fighting the spawned and must work your way over to the spider hidden nest and defending and use of EDF Troopers is paramount in this level as they can save your butt while working your way to destroy the spider nest.

Learning to drop and roll doubles speed of motion and one of the few survival methods against spidery webs which even drain stamina after killing the spider spiders can cheat and send webs through cavern walls at times or through a bridge underneath you or over a hillside or boulder out of firing range.

Use Airbike to leave weapons and retreat Level 23 is a favorite to use this bike throughout. The forward Spider Nest is one of the most important nests to destroy as the spiders are the most deadly here's a tip and I wish I had a map I could post.

First Jump in that Airbike quick and go forward and jump out and immediately attack the black ant nest and place turrets to defend spiders and drop and roll to the forward to the next spider nest to drop one turret and fire at the nest until it explodes DO NOT ATTACK anything forward at this point (four more nests). Refresh weapons and get back to airbike and go to the rear street so if any EDF survived follow and then go down a few streets where you can look to the other end and see the Red Ants nest. Bike forward within a block so you don't trigger the reds and leave turrets and then hop back on the bike and retreat all the way back and use rocket launchers or sniper rifles to take out the reds and trigger the turrets to defend all that get released and by the time they get back to where your at you'll refresh al weapons and work with EDF to get rid off them before attacking another nest.

NEXT it's imperative to take out the Spider nest -If you go to the far rear end street and travel to the end of it and turn left go forward until you see a building with a brick base and turn left at that street and it will lead you into a playground area go through the playground to where the overpass is and hop off the airbike and look beyond through the buildings toward where the tallest bldg was/is and you see part of the spider nest do not go forward through the bldgs or you'll trigger them and everything else instead plant turrets around you as a defense and use a sniper or rocket launcher between those buildings and take out the spider nests and when you see it blast upwards get on the airbike to escape to an opposite end and let turrets refresh. I usually take out the red spider nest near it first from the end of that road since the onslaught of four nests with the spiders can be damn hard to survive. When you get advanced weapons it's fun strategically taking out certain areas by going up skyscrapers to the rooftops to take nests out and then escape on the airbike the airbike can be used like this on a few other areas IMO the tank and the chopper are next to useless. Most missiles become useless from a distant since the homing where you aims shuts off after four seconds and they go willy nilly until you get the final one which can be awesome to use from atop a skyscraper at the rear to clear out buildings and then the spider nest at the far end before you get killed and use the airbike to escape.

Common Rule in about every level with multiple nests or UFO's Never challenge more than one at a time since you can and usually will triger all of them.

Surrounded Level on Inferno --Use Lysander Z if you have it and XEXR turret take out the ship at the far right which is the Spider and rotate left using sniper and as you exhaust your 8 shots move forward and drop a triangle of turrets to semi protect the EDF and yourself and then let sniper recharge and start roatation going left and as the turrets are running out starting running to your right via drop and roll since the ships the the right are gone nothing is dropping in that region let the turret refresh while doing this and the EDF follow you and protecting you until you can set one turret at a time and then start taking out one ship at a time until you have one left and fight them off and harvest armour rotating turret and the sniper rifle and you'll get pretty good with the sniper rifle on this level to the point you could keep battling that one ship since it seems it cannot drop more than 4-5 enemy at a time and they become easy to cleanup but once harvest is done take out the ship since there aren't enough drops to waste your time after this but this strategy works perfectly on the most difficult level where it can seem impossible just randomly shooting.

Level 40 is great for harvesting weapons setup up defenseive turrets and then fight with EDF in the ravine and they can survive even at Inferno with turrets and assault weapons as long as you don't place them behind EDF as they destroy your EDF. Great Weapons to harvest until you need the top weapons which I got on Level 51 and 52.

Level 43 can be a PITA. At Inferno Level if you have the Lysander Z Attack first black spider nest forward dropping a turret for defense in that zone and then retreat to the right side hills where there on no enemies and let the EDF fight the onslaught and as you get to the hillsides and start taking out the nests of the black and then red ants and drop turrets to protect you if EDF gets destroyed since the entire onslaught will be after you then as you retreat over the hills toward the beachside it gives you time to refresh turrets and then you can take out at least one of the Robots and the second if you have time but keep retreating to that beachside and use the entire beach as a defense area and if a robot has survived take him out as it's tough to survive them plus the spiders keep dropping and rolling right across beach until you reach the underground tunnel taking out spiders with turrets and your sniper rifle and work your way inside the tunnel where you can recharge all turrets and sniper rifle and walk to the other end to the ravine be careful here since the spiders can send webs through the bridge from an area you can't shoot and suck you dry of stamina pronto I drop as fast as I can and drop a turret layout triangle quickly and drop and roll in view of the nest and use the sniper rifle to take it out and once the nest is gone it's a matter of turrets and sniper work of what's left always dropping and rolling and watching the radar if you stand still and the web hits it can be tough to get away spiders have sneaky AI where they can position themselves in areas you may not be able to shoot and you can drain of stamina even after killing them.

Fight Level 51 Convergence retreating to the rear and dropping turrets defensively and attack one ship at a time and then fight off its drops with turrets and the robots that release also. Like Surprise Level -Don't rush into battle here. Patiently take out segments so as to not trigger multiple attacks or it's SOL time at Inferno difficulty.

Take out the Spider UFO first to the front Right it'll take them longer to reach where you are and provide more chance to survive. Strategically take out one set at a time and all their drops since if they release their cargo in multiples forget about it man on the hardest and Inferno level. The EDF will help defend but won't last long on this level. Before attacking any UFO double check ammo and make sure you are full on both accounts and the turrets are your defense items and about the only way to use two weapons at a time.

SURPRISE Level on Inferno Skill --OK when starting do not think in terms of shooting anyone for the first few minutes visually think of the map and your goal is to get to the diagonal opposite of where you are and boy it takes a long time to get their drop and roll to left as far as you can go and then take that street forward to it's very end and let the EDF fight these guys. That far diagonal end becomes you defense fight zone and it's importance on Inferno Level is the triggering that Monster Size Robot with Lasers it can be next to impossible to survive on Inferno once he's triggered yet when you start your battle from that end and he gets triggered he follows a pattern where he turns forward left and then walks to the diagonal other end where his lasers rarely touch and drain you and it gives you more time to refresh turrets since he's dropping enemies from further away also. If you get sucked into fighting with the EDF and stay to that right forward side you'll find yourself cussing up a storm on Inferno level. As you destroy that UFOs 2-3 drops of spiders and ships then you can take on the overhead ships from a distance with a sniper or rocket launcher and it becomes easy. On easier levels this can be done many ways but IMO this is the best solution on Inferno and Hardest to beat this. On easier levels one may be able to work a quicker way but on Inferno it's next to impossible to make your way going forward over the nests much like real combat often fighting while retreating and strategically is far smarter than trying to be John Wayne it's one of the ways to survive Inferno Levels as head on rarely works.

MARCH --Inferno Level Double XEXR Turrets strategically placed to defend the EDFs while you retreat and watch the radar and refresh turrets while three zones send spiders. There is an airbike that can used for quick retreat to refresh turrets if needed not much time to harvest here since everything is a spider.

WRATH --All Levels but especially Inferno/Hardest. Learn the onslaught types and if you can make it to the final wave try and make sure your far forward diagonal end and when that third wave released view straight down that street (east) and it's imperative that you have a rocket launcher and take these spiders out first from that long distance since they will hide behind other enemies your fighting and throw their webs and you may not be able to hit them and they drain you quick spiders first is a rule.

The AI is amazing on Inferno and can get you really ticked --the spiders will attach to things under you or even the kings will hide from your weapons. Spiders always go first in this game or else you will. The EDF forces are Starship Trooper Corny and Stupid though they come in handy as a sacrifice when needed. Once you master the game it then becomes a challenge using EDF and helping they survive and they can help you defeat somewhat impossible areas if used properly Inferno Level especially on the second part with their Laser rifles if your back with them If your to forward they cannot help much.

Final Level --Two Lysander Z's have worked for me each time but still not easy for sure at times it's impossible to even see the target but constant drop and roll away from the onslaught is about the only way and peeking at the opening and making sure you have ammo refreshed when it does stand still and your SOL.

These will be the superstar weapons that lead to 100% and the Genocide Weapon

ZEXR Launcher (Turrets enable dual weapons but one must drop and roll to time long reloads and avoid being killed)

ZEXR-GUN (MVP Weapon for many levels Use two sets for the "MARCH" level of Inferno)

Stingray MF Rocket Launcher

MEX Emerald is quite Fun until Inferno Levels

Lysander Z Sniper (Use two and rotate on level 53 Starship for quicker damage and have high stamina to get 100%) Perhaps the most difficult weapon to harvest I've gotten it on Inferno Level and Convergence Levels

AF99St AF100 Assault Weapons

Prominence M2 Missle Launcher

Stampede XM Grenade Launcher

All Levels gets you the Genocide weapon which is like carrying a hand held NUKE and often will kill you if you aren't aiming at a distance but damn it's amazing except for the fact it does nothing to the Nests or the UFO's for whatever reason. You'll find yourself using perhaps only 10% of the weapons as 90% of them are useless once you get to the hardest and Inferno level.

Enjoy!

When I popped this game in my 360, I thought the characters looked goofy and it seemed like a basic first gen XBOX shooter. Then the perfectly short missions began to dazzle me with memories of ancient B grade horror movies, fantastic fight scenes and addictive gameplay. This is not only the least expensive 360 game out right now, it is the most fun. No question.
