Brigandine: Legend of Forsena Reviews

There was once an era of video games where experimentation was the norm, where risks were taken and genres were born (or died). Games were made up of more heart and soul, each having a unique (if not always good) vision. While many games during this era were not commercially successful megahits that every kid on the block owned, there existed a special kind of game that gave a truly joyful experience to every kid who dared risk their precious $50 of summer savings on it.

Brigadine is one such game.

While essentially a fairly solid hexagonal turned based Strategy-RPG with leveling and class promotion systems, Brigadine manages to surpass its trappings and elevate itself above other competing SRPGs by providing what few could at the time an Epic tale of a continent at war told through an open world format closer to sandbox style gameplay than anything else I've yet to see. Sandbox style gameplay in a SRPG? Yes, indeed it is true.

While I do not have the room to truly delve into every aspect of the game, I will highlight the main points below:

Pros

+ Can select from quite a few different Kingdoms to play at the beginning of the game each with own unique plotline, style, and beginning characters.

+ Sandbox style game means you have a different game every time!

+ Each unique, named character in the game comes with their own anime portrait and backstory. This helps a lot towards making you care about them and their growth in battle.

+ Questing system for named characters allows you to assign characters on a journey. The results of which can lead to plot points, powerful new items, new allies (named characters), or stat upgrades. There are lots of other results, I was just naming a few common ones.

+ Questing system makes for strategic decision making. Do I send a powerful hero or specific plot trigger hero out on a quest, or use them to fight another battle?

+ Great item system, lots of different equipment

+ Multiple tier class promotion system. I hate SRPGs that only allow a class to upgrade into ONE other class, regardless. Makes it feel like a cop out.

+ 3d animation is available for fight cutscenes. I turn them off usually for faster battles, but they are offered.

+ Magic is not all powerful, and is balanced right to be strategic but not necessary.

+ Great load times!

Cons

Limited AI. This is the PSX era. While good, it does fall pray to more straight forward tactics.

Multiplayer offerings are limited... this is PSX, so no internet play. This game would have further trasncended if they did offer it.

Wish there was a cooler intro movie.

Certain units are fairly useless or have narrow usefulness. While some may argue, this is my opinion.

Love the music, wish there was more though.

Sound effects are sometimes a bit... rudimentary. When I 1-shot kill something, a limp sounding hit will ruin my enjoyment. Sometimes it ends up being just funny though.

Misc

= Japanese version exists that allows you additional scenario and "final boss" of sorts. While normally I wouldn't mention this, there exists some plot resolution issues for those that do not know of or have access to this version.

= Hard to find game. Very expensive.

All in all, this is one I was very glad I picked up when I was younger. Every time I feel like going and playing out my own epic fantasy war (like after reading certain George RR Martin books, for example), this is the title I choose.

Not too hard to get in to and understand yet with enough RPG depth and Strategic depth to satisfy cravings of both, this game is a true overlooked Gem for any RPG or SRPG lover.

This game is hands down the best strategy RPG ever made.

The classes for humans and monsters are the most balanced you will ever find.

After a while you will get too good at winning this, and you can play a harder mode in which you let the computer control every battle. It's very enjoyable to see the decisions you make in building an army reflected in almost every way possible when you let the computer take over the battles.

Truly a masterpiece in strategy, with a few setbacks that don't hurt the game too much.

I have literally spent 500+ hours playing this.

This is an old game, had it before and played it so much I gave it away. Now I have it again and I'm playing it too much.

Honest reviews on Brigandine: Legend of Forsena

Not hard to beat at all if you are into it, even on hard mode. There are limited classes and units. The gameplay gets redundant after awhile. The music is good though. The learning curve is short. There is little tactics involved if you can build a good army. There are many underhanded way to kill and defend. For example, you should keep the hydra on water so it can heal itself to infinity. The graphic is terrible in 3D but awesome in 2D because it is hand-drawn.

Strategy games by their very definition usually mean that you're in for an in-depth experience that will challenge your brain cells. Not so with Brigandine. It doesn't have enough options to attract hardcore strategists, and it's too dull to draw neophytes to the genre. You select one of five kingdoms, differing only in geographical location and in initial Rune Knights (human characters with classes such as Witch, Druid, Berserker, etc.). The world map is divided into battlegrounds connected by roads, and you're given a certain amount of game time to take 'em all by force (except for those two kingdoms on the west coast that are all buddy-buddy). Each Rune Knight controls a squadron of monsters (which can be created and, occasionally, swiped from defeated enemies) which can increase in size as their experience level goes up. To conquer new territory, you can send 1 to 3 Rune Knights (one is suicide, two isn't much better) to a neighboring location in enemy hands and do battle. The fighting is done on large maps divided into hexigons and it's about as simple as can be. There aren't many spells to cast and the cardinal rule here is that whoever has the biggest, baddest monsters wins. When one unit attacks another, the game cuts to a battle scene where you see the attack and, sometimes, the counterattack in duller-than-a-bowling-ball 3-D. Mercifully, you can turn this option off to expedite the fighting. The "story" (such as it is) is told through dialogue boxes superimposed over the world map. At the end of the day, this game just doesn't try hard enough to draw the player in. It's a time-killer, nothing more. Fans of "grid" style strategy/RPGs like Final Fantasy Tactics (which happens to be my favorite video game EVER in spite of its occasional if-you-don't-have-the-right-skill-equipped-for-this-fight-you-are-utterly-screwed unfairness) may be drawn to it since this genre is not the most populist, but it's a limp-wristed production. Without the superfluous 3-D scenes, it could have easily been done on the Super NES rather than the PlayStation. Not a terrible game, but not worth the time required to finish it.

I waited for a long time to get PAE1 discounted in the Deal of the Week program (It went for 50% off) on Xbox Live because 1600 points or $20 seemed like WAY to much to me for an Xbox Live Arcade game. I'm glad I did because I would have been pretty angry if I paid full price. If you are a veteran RPG player you will rip through this game in a few hours or so. Maybe it'll take you a bit longer if you're going for the achievements.

Pros:

Limited character creation, but your character looks great & is in every cut scene just how you made it. Has a very cool stylized look to it.

Fun & fast combat system once you learn how to block.

There are a lot of little details everywhere. Click and explore everything.

Easy 200 Achievement points for a veteran RPG player.

Cons:

Overpriced & much shorter than I expected. Beat everything in one play through and has ZERO replayability. Literally, it warns you before you beat the last boss that once you win it's over.

Before you learn how to time your blocks properly you will die, alot.

Lame story with a cliffhanger leading you to buy PAE2.

Not as funny as I thought it would be and is NOT for a child it has mature content & very strong language.

Overall, I enjoyed it while it lasted, but I'd say I was disappointed with PAE1 because it was so short and wouldn't recommend paying full price for it.

This is one of the most expensive games on Xbox Live, but it's worth the money. It's honestly better than some games that come on disk for $60. You don't need to be a Penny Arcade fan to enjoy the game, but if you are, the jokes will make you laugh out loud. The combat is fun. Make sure to learn the blocking!

People always complain about the price, as do I , so this review will pretend the game was free so the score will be unbiased.

Not for children. Thats my first advice because this game is full of F-bombs and sexual inuendo (and blood of course). I loved this game though, and thought it was very well written and made me laugh out loud a few times. The story content is interesting and humorous. The visuals are great and you easily get sucked into this game.

The gameplay was also great. It is a fairly fast paced RPG game in which you have to be always choosing options (attack/item etc.) and do it fairly quickly. The game is not hard, but it takes a little getting used to if you've never played a RPG before. You may die once or twice, but you pick up on it pretty quick. The only minor downside to the gameplay is the "explore" aspect. I say this because sometimes it is hard to "inspect" items as you can walk past them just ever so slightly and then you can't inspect them. You have to kind of circle your character around a bit until he is looking exactly at what you want, and it's easy to miss things this way. That part of the game made it a little tedious when trying to collect all the items, but not too much.

The achievements were also fun, especially the hardest one (I'll let you figure it out). It took me about 4 tries to get it and was fast paced action all the way with a lot of strategy. This game was a little shorter than I would have liked, but after playing through the game twice to get 100% of the achievements, I felt satisfied. I look forward to Episode 2 once I get some points.

Sorry, just played a demo so far, so this isn't much of a review. The biggest complaint is that it costs $20; I just wanted to say that on Steam, it's only $5. Well worth it!

I purchased the launch version at 12:15 Friday night of the 15th. I'm glad I did. Got up the next morning and looked online and they were already sold out.

With prime shipping it arrived Monday afternoon. I was worried that I was going to get a bad unit like a lot of other reviewers on here. Got everything hooked up and hit the power button... It flashed blue... I was worried for a second, then the light turn white and the PS logo appeared on the screen. Sigh of relief. First thing I did was run the latest firmware update. It updated without any issues.

Once you're at the home screen you're welcomed by soothing music and a clean feeling menu. After a couple of days I got tired of the menu background music so all I had to do was go to the settings and turn that off. Everything seems very snappy. My first real impression was how fast the PS store opened. On the PS3 it seemed to take forever, but on the PS4 it was almost instant.

Installed my first game (Battlefield 4) and once I inserted the disc the game immediately started to install itself. Within seconds it was ready to play. When I first entered the game I was told that to access the games network features I would have to install an update for the game. But for offline campaign mode I could immediately jump into it. I played the campaign for a few minutes then backed out so I could run the update and use the network stuff. The PS4 alerted me that it had started the download of the update and once complete that it was ready to install. It installed without a hitch and I was able to get into the game and access the multiplayer features.

Went ahead and installed the other two games I had purchased (COD Ghost and Need for Speed) both installed without issue. Got notified that they too needed updates so I went ahead and ran them. This being a launch system and as new as the games are I wasn't too surprised with all the updates.

It was getting late so I didn't get to get into much game play that night. Fast forward to now and I must say i'm quite impressed so far. I've been playing battlefield mostly and the graphics are phenomenal. Compared to the PS3 its a great improvement. I would have to say it give the PC a run for its money.

One thing I was really impressed was this. A friend was watching a movie on netflix. I came into the room and he wanted to show me something on COD. In a matter of seconds he went from netflix to game play. You hit the PS button and your back a the main menu... He had already played the game earlier so it was on standby. He selects the game, hits enter and the game came up almost immediately and he was back to where he left off. After watching him play a bit I was impressed with the quality of this game as well. Found a few glitches in the game, but I expect those will be fixed over time. I know Battlefield was having issues with some of its multiplayer maps. I guess thats what you get when you buy launch day consols.

Overall I'm liking it so far. But knowing Sony and the PS3 more is to come. I was disappointed in them not including the DLNA features because that was one of the main things I used on the PS3. I have a feeling that Sony will add this soon.

Those of you who are thinking about buying one this holiday. Wait till amazon or the stores get them back in stock. Don't buy one for $600-$1000 its not worth that cost. Plus by the time there back in stock the should have more of the bugs worked out.

I hope my review was helpful. To those who got bad units and are hating on Sony: Don't disqualify the PS4 yet. Get your replacement and give it another shot. I think you'll be glad you did.

I don't even know where to begin with my review. I guess I could say that I love the Playstation 4 or that it works perfectly and I've had no issues (apart from the Playstation Network being down a bit as it was getting hammered by all the new PS4 owners). I guess I'll just do a list or Pros and Cons:

PROS:

-The system itself looks awesome. Very architectural. It was actually the first thing my girlfriend commented on and said she loved the way it looked.

-The User Interface is basically an upgraded XMB. If you liked the XMB, you'll like this interface. It is also incredibly snappy and responsive.

-Getting in to and out of the Playstation Store is seamless. Not like on PS3 where it takes 30 sec to a minute to load. It loads instantly and is integrated in to the UI.

-Resogun is awesome in all its old school shoot-em-up glory.

-Killzone: Shadowfall is beautiful but I haven't had too much play time with it yet.

-Knack is surprisingly fun, despite what all the reviews say. It looks like a Pixar movie at points. Drop in co-op is a blast. It's so much fun with me as regular Knack and my girlfriend as Robot Knack. She is actually better at beating up baddies than I am.

-Updated trophy support. Rarity of trophies is a fun little data point to look at.

-Playstation APP/offscreen capabilities are nice. Typing using a touch screen is so much nicer than using a gamepad.

-DualShock 4 (the controller) is nice to hold. Trigger shoulder buttons are a marked improvement over the DS3 R2/L2 buttons.

-My favorite feature: VITA REMOTE PLAY! Works like a dream. Almost no perceptible lag. I was playing Resogun on it (a game that requires little to no lag or you'll die) and it ran so smoothly.

CONS:

-UI is barebones. That's actually fine with me but many people these days demand a more robust UI.

-Unable to delete unused Apps in the movie/tv section. If there is I haven't figured out a way to do it. Granted, I haven't tried that hard since I've been having too much fun playing games.

SUMMARY:

It's a great gaming system with some great games and a promising future. The interface is bare bones (which I like) and incredibly responsive but may not satisfy people who love a more robust UI. The remote play of the vita and second screen capabilities via Playstation App are nice additions that will get a lot of use out of people that own a Vita/Playstation App compatible phone. It is a device made to play games and does so wonderfully.

I let the dust settle a bit on this before writing the review on the machine. Have had for a week and love every min of gaming on it! Bought Battlefield 4, Knack and Killzone for it and they all look amazing on it. Especially going from Xbox 360 to this on battlefield. On the 360 the game would freeze every 20 mins and you would have to restart your xbox every time. Ultimately would get annoying and just the wish to play anymore. The 5 min load time every time would kill the mood to know would freeze 15 mins later. Also, the graphics are night and day, understandable that the machine is a upgrade (much needed) from the 7 year old console. But, the interface is much different from xbox and easier in my opinion to navigate. Also, do not have ads on every page (which is a plus for me). Great to have the machine install things on the back end while playing games and on standby.

Now, I understand that there is alot of tension between the 2 consoles right now. Which is understandable, people have a preference to their style. I have compiled a list of reasons the I went with the PS4 being a former Microsoft enthusiast. And, please for the love of God! If you did not buy from Amazon, don't post a review on here!

The hardware although better slightly in some areas is better in all the right areas (memory, video card). Playstation went with GDDR5 and Microsoft went with DDR3 ram on the board, which they are sharing with the 3 Operating systems. In turn means this is being spread out to 3 OS's and can be taxing on resources. The GDDR5 is VIDEO RAM not Local ram, which is video centric focusing on the memory of the graphics processor. Since these machines are essentially CPU/GPU taxed there is no need to focus on anything else like a PC.

Game centered.... I did not care about all the NFL and TV add on BS that came with the Xbox one. If you are the kind that did great. But, to me this round, Microsoft seemed to cater too much to making the Xbox a HTPC and not a GAMING console.

Did not want the kinect. Did not like the first version and never used it. Plus, the online pass for Sony is 10 dollars cheaper a year than Microsoft.

And, Finally...I have 2 Xbox 360's that have both been serviced twice BY MICROSOFT in the past 2 years. That is a total of 4 repair and a total of 400 dollars in repairs, for faulty hardware that they REFUSE to acknowledge when I essentially sent in for repairs. Would send in for an optical drive failure and would die a year later on both machines. Sure, I have the technical skills to repair it myself but was same price for parts as was for repair and did not void warranty. Ironically the SAME issues are rearing their ugly heads on the new consoles with the Xbox one.

Ultimately, this all boils down to what YOU the consumer want. I went for this machine because again, it focused on gaming and that was it. Also, the thing I did forget to mention, on Playstation plus you get cooler free games a month than you do on live.

Honest reviews on PlayStation 4: Launch Edition

Yes, this is a fantastic game machine.

SONY has already released the patch 1.51 for it, which got rid of the ONLY circumstance that I could crash it:

The Amazon video app seemed to have a memory leak or something. I could seamlessly switch out of a game (Assassin's Creed, Killzone, NFS, or Knack) and suspend the game while watching movies on Netflix, Crackle, or go online with the web browser or the PS Store. Not so when I used the Amazon App the first few days. My movies on Amazon App would also freeze all within the first 10 mins or so and the machine would lock up when i'd try to exit that circumstance.

After the 1.51 patch, delivered yesterday on 11/20 , Amazon app works fine and i'm unable to get the machine to lockup at all!!!!

So, the ONLY complaint I had since buying it is now gone.

I hope Amazon won't censure this for telling the truth about how it WAS, and is now fixed, because it involved their name, we can hope.

The GREAT:

SONY released an update to their developer's code library that let every game available speed up and become sharper (much like a PC might get a driver or Direct 3D update). So, by my count, ALL PS4 games are running at 1080p, with Need For Speed being the only one at 30fps instead of 60fps because the developers wanted it that way to ensure it looked the same on both machines. Most XBO Games are if you check around only running at 720p, and that's the honest truth. I don't spend more money on a LESS capable machine, so, it's PS4 for me only.

DualShock 4: The controller is Fantastic and a very nice update/refinement of SONY's tried and true pad. This feels like a professional gaming controller. I don't know HOW third parties are going to sell their own, this is really a wonderful thing, matching up VERY well with my Saitek P900 and P2900 wireless and wired PC game pads. Those look funny but I consider them my favorite controllers. Until now, the PS4 controller certainly channels the best desires of gaming designers and gamers needs.

Design: It's gorgeous, and, the angles and panels lend itself to getting designs and skins put on it. You get a nice dark kit that disappears into your home theater setup, but, if you want, it can be decorated with slipcover or sticker skins that could make it look striking. It's very small and light. I can't imagine a PS Four years down the road that is alot smaller and lighter, it won't seem right!

Launch Games: SONY didn't front load all of their first party studios with launch day deadlines. If you have a PS3 there's still amazing games that have come out and still coming out. SONY doesn't brick their last gen system when the new one comes out. The games are coming and the games we do have today are great. The games NOT made by SONY from EA, UBI Soft and Activision et al are all BETTER on the PS4, if not in gameplay due to the controller then just because they have 2x the fidelity of the XBO version. It's just the truth!

My Verdict: The ONLY MUST HAVE Game System at the moment.

Get a WiiU if you need game of the year, because, it might just be Super Mario 3D World from the review's i've just seen, but, make that your second system over this, because the games i've played on the PS4 are superb and the best Day One experience i've ever had with a game system!!!

Maybe I didn't read the fine print or I just got lucky, but this kit came with the joysticks and the tool necessary to change them out. I fixed the controller that our dogs chewed up in under 15 minutes. Just a note there is a sticker under the battery compartment that hides the last screw that needs to be removed on the controller.

Controller thumbstick replacements occur, whether you're a casual gamer or a gamer that plays in tournaments such as myself.

Usually if you get a controller you use a lot and get into the groove with thumstick use, it's to of no surprise you don't wish to drop $30+ on a new controller.

Installation is a snap and the thumbsticks should be worked in circles afterwards to ensure that they are seated on their connector rod.

Also, these are made by the same OEM that produces the thumbsticks for Microsoft, so the quality is the same, which is great :)

These thumbsticks were the perfect replacement for my old worn-out originals. Installation was relatively easy and straightforward and the thumbsticks even came with the T8H Torx allen wrench that you need to open your controller. After installation, I doubt anyone would even be able to notice that they were replaced. Great product!

Honest reviews on Global Game Gear GGG0021 Grey Xbox Thumbsticks with T8 L Key

I bought these since my original thumbsticks had lost their grip, and they really serve their purpose. Although they are not OEM, they have a decent quality. Do not order a Torx T8H to open your controller, they come with one. Also, in the beginning the thumbstick may stay get stuck, but this problem will be gone after the first couple of days.

I lost a thumbstick to a friend's rage awhile back. He replaced the controller, but I kept it around and now I'm glad I did. Installing these replacement thumbsticks was a snap, especially with the help of the included key (don't let Amazon's suggestions fool you into buying one you don't need). The stick snaps right onto the control stalk, then put the controller back together and you're done! They feel just like the stock sticks and move very naturally and easily. I'll probably pick up a few more just to have some spares around.

now i purchased this remote which is priced on their web site for 89.99 for 19.99$

the remote had issues originally as the other moron review stated, but i did some digging into and found this is due to a detection program used by Microsoft which disables 3rd party remotes of specific natures. if you buy this download the user manual from mindforce and download the wirrelessjoyad updater from mindforce to fix this issue and improve the specs of the remote

Features great short throw triggers

smooth bumpers, well enginered nonslip coating, side grip gills to keep a non slip hold during sweaty game play

analogs have a good gummy feel and hold fingers in place with non slip material

light up buttons and sticks is neat

NOW to the cheat functions (i dont approve of these in online)

i used this in black ops 2 campaign as a testing field

simply hit barrage and both second and primary weapons fire all ammo at once(was kinda glitchy on screen but impressive)

quick scope works as it sounds , click button and aim+fire dead center on enemy

quick reload is for GOW which i dont have but it did work ok on COD black ops 2(correct button sequence)

now to the main cheat function you fools need who cant pull a trigger fast enough to do this

activate rapid fire via the button , then select one of the many modes available which can be adjusted easily

has built in gun single or akimbo modes for rapid fire which are tailored to guns of COD style

overall its well built and engineered for a pro but, i feel that idiots will by this just for the rapid fire when its basic functions are superb, there is a lower model of this available which has just basic functions and i highly recommend that one for normal non cheating online players, this one will bring to light all your flaws in game and you will need to overcome them or get a life

I've watched the Starcraft 2 Amazon reviews come in with great sadness. Sadness because this game deserves so much more than 3 stars, but also sadness because most of the points the negative reviews make are completely legitimate.

Starcraft 2 is a great game. I got it the day it came out and haven't touched another game since. Like the original Starcraft, it's an almost perfectly balanced RTS with three unique races. The Terrans, Zerg, and Protoss each have many new units and tricks up their sleeves, and as with the original, the game takes mere hours to learn but a lifetime to master. Each and every last unit has its perfect situation where it can be used to turn the tide of a game. The production values are phenomenal all around. The sounds and voice acting are fantastic, the attention to detail is amazing, and if you've got a computer that can handle them, the visuals on max settings are absolutely gorgeous. And it doesn't just look and sound good; it plays good, too. A bunch of little technical issues from the original have been fixed: you can issue commands to multiple hotkeyed groups at light speed without some commands being lost, your own units will actually move out of the way when you're trying to construct a building, rally points are more efficient and separate ones can be set for worker units, etc. It's all the fun of the original, but it's now sleeker, sexier and handles better. It is faster paced than the original, and the multi-player automatic match-making system is Blizzard's best yet. As a bonus, it (like Starcraft and Warcraft III before it) ships with a map editor that lets you customize nearly any aspect of the game; skilled map-makers will be making new maps, missions and mini-games for years to come.

So when does a game like this get a 3-star rating? When its own creators unwittingly do almost everything in their power to sabotage it, that's when. Thanks to some miscalculations by Blizzard, there will be entire sections of the fan base that will find this game either unplayable or unappealing. Though the gripes have been listed many times on here, I'll summarize them once more and give my take on just how much they're really likely to annoy you:

1. You need an Internet connection to play, even in single-player mode. Obviously, if you have no or sporadic Internet, this will be a deal-breaker. You can technically play a single player version offline, but it comes with limited features and privileges.

2. You need to make a Battle.net account to be able to play at all. For some, the very idea of having to go online and sign up to use a product you just shelled out $ for is a slap in the face. Also, this Battle.net account will be your one and only Starcraft II account; no more starting over with a new name or record.

3. No LAN. I guess maybe Blizzard thought nobody actually LANs anymore? Clearly, the people have spoken, and Blizzard thought wrong. If your fondest Starcraft memories are of playing the game on a LAN with friends, this might be a deal-breaker for you.

4. The region lock. In Blizzard's previous games, you could freely switch between regions. Now, if you're an American and you want to play with your European friends, you need a European copy of the game. It's hard to see what good this does besides making Blizzard more money.

5. No chat rooms. The game's automatic matchmaking system is beautiful, but let's say you want to chat with other players in a chat room for a while before migrating over to a game. No longer possible. Just about the only way to make new Starcraft 2 friends and partners online is to privately message people you were randomly paired with after a game, or to privately message random players in your (or a friend's) league division (hint: if you do this, people will think you're weird). Blizzard has promised to add chat rooms in a patch, but for now, this is the issue annoying me the most.

6. Your Battle.net and RealID friends are practically invited to stalk you. I don't think I've seen a game where adding someone you're "iffy" about to your friends list could end up more detrimental. Not only are you always online while playing this game, you always show as online to everyone on your friend's list. You can choose to show as "busy," but there's no option to hide.

7. The campaign is Terran only, and a multi-player RTS plus one race's campaign might not be worth $. In Blizzard's defense, there are 29 missions, strung together to form an amazing story with cut-scenes and cinematics between each. Each mission can be completed on 4 difficulty levels, all featuring optional objectives and achievements. But for all that, an RTS veteran could blitz through the entire campaign in a matter of hours (on normal mode, at least). If you're one of the players for whom the campaign is the main draw, paying $ for a game it only takes hours to beat would be a bad deal.

8. There's no global ladder. If you play league games online competitively, you get ranked in a league, but aside from the top league (so I'm told; I'm not in it), you have no way to tell where you stand relative to everyone else in your league. You can only tell where you stand relative to the others in your 100 person division, and the divisions themselves are not ranked. I much preferred Warcraft III's system, where you could see where you stood relative to everyone.

The funny thing is, some of these new features people are griping about aren't inherently bad ideas. For instance, it's actually very cool to be able to chat and share your achievements with friends while playing the campaign...unless, of course, you just want to strategize and be left alone. Which brings me to what I think is the heart of Blizzard's mistake: they should have made a whole lot more settings OPTIONAL. You should have the OPTION to play single player online or offline, the OPTION to show as visible or invisible to your friends, the OPTION to play LAN, the OPTION to switch regions. But instead, Blizzard's "my way or the highway" approach will leave all of those who can't get past any of the above eight things out in the cold. So please, Blizzard, save your fans, yourselves, and your game a lot of trouble, and make more features optional in future patches.

I'll close by addressing what I think are the three groups of people holding off on buying the game: if you're dismayed by all the negative publicity, but none of the above problems are deal-breakers for you (and there's no reason why any of them have to be), go ahead and buy it. It really is a great game, and you'll have a lot of fun. If you absolutely can't get past one or more of the problems and know they would make the game cease to be a fun experience, then you have my sympathy and you get to keep your bucks. And finally, to those for whom the issues really aren't deal-breakers but who are refusing to buy the game on matters of principle: you have my respect, and even my admiration. But man, you're missing out on a good one.

Update (4/19/11): Since I wrote this review, chat rooms have been patched into the game, though they aren't used nearly as much as the chat rooms in Blizzard's previous games. On other positive notes, the game is frequently patched, balance issues are addressed and taken seriously, the game has very active forums where players talk strategy in detail, and Blizzard is continuing to make new maps and scenarios and integrate them into online play. On the negative side, it's becoming more and more apparent that most of the bigger complaints against the game (like the lack of LAN, online requirement, and region lock) aren't going to be patched away. Overall, I'm still playing the game pretty regularly and having fun, but there's still plenty I'm gritting my teeth about.

One can only respect BLIZZARD for not setting a release date before they knew they could meet it. No matter that this was the most awaited game for over a decade, they would release it "whenever it would be ready". Well, it is ready, it is here and it rocks. Too bad they kicked the respect bucket in the end. But first things first.

THE GOOD OLD GAMEPLAY GETS THE CIGAR

Seasoned and new gamers alike will appreciate the simple yet highly enjoyable gameplay. The factions are well balanced and the units perfectly valued. You gather minerals and vespene gas, you build your defenses, you upgrade, you expand, you gather your forces and you unleash hell. Repeat as needed until satisfied.

STARCRAFT: THE QUICKENING

The game is much faster than the original. Resource gathering, building, researching and expanding all go faster now. This is something that will appeal to most and I for one liked it. It conveys an enjoyable sense of urgency, adding to the immersion. And because the game is richer and deeper, the tension just keeps mounting.

SWARMS!

The game designers either enjoyed STARSHIP TROOPERS one times too many or they are fond of killer bees documentaries. Either way, be prepared to have to deal with a lot of swarming enemies! The plains shall be soaked in Zerg blood leaving you with a thick metallic aftertaste of accomplishment.

SPACE. SPACE IS BEAUTIFUL

Visually this game is GORGEOUS. It looks like C&C4 was supposed to (but failed miserably). The units are detailed in design yet clearly discernible whereas the environments are superbly done (although not that variable). True, I could do with somewhat more realistic graphics but I can see that this could only be done at the expense of clarity when the number of units rises. What needs a bit getting used to is how some of the buildings do not look that different. No complaints about how they look but one can easily confuse them and build the same building twice.

COME FOR THE VESPENE GAS. STAY FOR THE STORY

The story picks up just where SC-BROODWAR left off. Following each mission nicely done videos move the single player story along (no spoilers, not to worry) that, although we are given the illusion of choosing between different paths, apparently they converge towards a predestined end.

DAMN IT JIM, WHERE IS THE REST OF THE GAME?

Why only 3 stars then? Well, in a nutshell: GREED.

Apparently ACTIVISION's influence is not very healthy to customer relations. Together with BLIZZARD they are trying to turn the StarCraft franchise into yet another World of WarCraft phenomenon and, at the same time, using STARCRAFT II as the vehicle, turn BattleNet into the new STEAM. Unfortunately this results in a barely palatable product and using your fan-base to advance your corporate ambitions is always tacky.

Although priced even more than a full premium game, this is not a complete STARCRAFT sequel. You would not know this by its price-tag(!) but this is only A...THIRD of the game, the first part of three: you can only play the Terran campaign. The Zerg and the Protoss campaigns will be released independently later (and priced as if they were full games, one could safely bet).

To add insult to injury, one has to keep spending even more money if he wants any "premium maps" and "premium content" sold only via the BattleNet. Since this is a game that will be played mostly online don't be quick to dismiss this if you have a competitive streak.

OK, LET'S NOT TALK ABOUT IT BUT THERE IS A HYDRALISK IN THE ROOM, ISN'T THERE?

Much more serious is the NeverLettingGo-OnLineActivation requirement. The game will ask for activation during installation, which also includes signing up to BattleNet (and, yes, this means that even this expensive game never becomes yours to keep). But that is not all: a periodic OnLine confirmation is also required EVERY THIRTY DAYS, FOREVER. You can play offline but no more than a month between re-activating.

Unlike the latest EA and UBISOFT flops (which have an idiotic Always-OnLine requirement), with SC2, after its initial Activation, you CAN play a single player game (campaign and skirmishes) without logging on to BattleNet. Only, to do this you have to log on as a ..."Guest" (I know, a Guest to your own game and your own computer...). You will be able to save your progress but you cannot tie it to your BattleNet account later, so any progress or accomplishments are lost for your online Account. After your 30 days are up you have to re-activate once more.

That is why a Broadband Internet connection is included in the minimum system requirements. You can decide if this bothers you.

SORRY TO BRING THIS UP BUT SPAWN SEEMS TO BE MISSING FROM MY COPY...

Remember how we could take our original STARCRAFT CD to a gathering of friends, Spawn it on everyone else's PCs and start a LAN party? Now one can play with his friends only through the BattleNet and the Spawn function has been eliminated! Yes, that means each one of your friends now has to have his own original copy of the game!

The brass at the top conveniently forgets that the ability to Spawn games was the main reason both STARCRAFT and DIABLO acquired such huge fan-bases.

Et tu, BLIZZARD?

This is a good game, one I think we will be enjoying for years or for as long as BLIZZARD shall allow us to do so. However, I had higher hopes for BLIZZARD's respect to its own customers.

RECOMMENDED.

The original gameboy was released by nintendo in 1989. On the side was a little port for what was called a link cable. This cable allowed me to hook my gameboy up with my friend's gameboy without issue. Let me rephrase: In 1991 I could link two primitive gameboys together and play a game with my friend.

In the mid 1990's I experienced my first time with LAN. I played Myth: TFL by Bungie and the Marathon trilogy with my friends. It was all so simple.

In 1998, the original Starcraft was released. In what could be considered the pinnacle of LAN party potential, millions of hours have been spent in basements, playing this game the entire night through without a single connection issue.

In 2002 microsoft released the original xbox. Countless nights were spent with friends playing Halo over LAN without fail.

By now the standard had been set.

In 2010 Blizzard released Starcraft 2...No more LAN. No more dependable, secluded nights playing on the local internet with your buddies. No, now everyone has to log in and go through their security checkpoint to play someone their computer is connected to directly. B.net down? Tough luck. Internet connection issues? Oh well. It's not like the capability to do this has been available in games for around for two decades now.

Let me rephrase: 20 years after I could connect two gameboys together to play pokemon, my friends can't connect their two decked out gaming computers together to play the biggest game in e-sports.

Honest reviews on StarCraft II: Wings of Liberty - PC

Blizzard's (now Activision-Blizzard) obvious success today was hardly a guarantee over a decade ago, and I believe two unshakable tenets of the company back then were responsible for taking them from small game developer to the huge juggernaut that they are now: polish and care. The polish is still there, but the care is gone.

Let me begin by addressing the good stuff in Starcraft 2 first, namely, how polished the game itself is.

Graphics, sound, and game play:

You have to hand it to Blizzard, their art direction is amazing. With such comparatively low polygon count for modern mainstream computer games, there is a world of details coupled with aesthetic color schemes that could make anyone smile. I really cannot stress the attention to detail enough, such as the Terrans laying down their barracks and seeing the beams and foundations go up in real time, the lighting effects of Protoss attack beams, or the reflective organic surface of Zerg bodies. It makes the game feel alive.

The musical score and sound effects aren't fodder to the pretty graphics either; the production values are high and one can hear all of the treble and specific timbre that goes with every explosion or laser beam that gets fired with a clarity and sharpness that's to be expected of Blizzard's products. As any of the Starcraft veterans know, the music perfectly complements each of the three distinct races very well, from the mellow alternative rock motifs of the Terrans, to the new-age majesty of the Protoss, to the sci-fi horror-themed screeches of the Zerg. You may not personally enjoy listening to the background music per se, but it's undeniable that the pieces fit with each race.

The single player campaign, from the missions I have played thus far, are engaging and wholly satisfying, with the feel of an epic trilogy along the veins of high-budget Hollywood trilogies. I have always adored Blizzard's attention to story and lore, even if the same themes (betrayal, vengeance, contrition, forgiveness, etc) are used over and over again in their other franchises, but who's to complain? They're classic, timeless, literary themes.

The game play is fast and action-paced, save for maybe the first 3-5 minutes of the game where everyone is building up. I can't say that Starcraft's brand of fast-paced, high-lethality game play is for everyone, as the learning curve to be considered moderately good is quite high. Thankfully, Bnet2.0's matching service somewhat mitigates this difference by pairing you with someone similarly skilled by considering total games played, win-loss ratio, level of opponents, etc. How well this matches players is up to debate, but so far I don't have any complaints.

Now for the bad stuff, which may sound confusing to new players of Blizzard games, but veterans will instantly recognize the problems addressed.

Omission of obvious Bnet2.0 features, RealID support requirement, lack of LAN support, and cost:

The original Starcraft, and each subsequent rendition of , has several key features that is conspicuously missing from the Bnet2.0 used in Starcraft 2, namely:

-Private channel support

-Private game features missing

-Named custom games

-Regional server options

Private channel support:

Why is there no private channel support? If Activision-Blizzard were honest with their words that they wanted a experience so good that we wouldn't want to play offline or on LAN, why leave out such an obvious feature? Private channels allow clans or friends to gather in a chatroom in to organize events, discuss strategies, or just shoot the breeze in general. The lack of private channel support is a huge offense, since this was a standard feature in the days of the original Starcraft, over a decade ago.

Private game features missing:

As it is currently, to join custom games, two players would have to have each other's game ID, and add each other to their respective friends list. Not only that, ALL friends can see and join games that are created by a user on the friend list. What if you just wanted to relax and host a random custom game with complete strangers, or host a custom game with certain friends but not others? Well, you can't easily do this, since any friend on your list can see the game you've made, and can subsequently join it if they wish.

Named custom games:

Anyone who has played Starcraft or Warcraft III on knows that custom game names are important. "2v2 LT no rush 20min" or "DOTA Cali ALL RANDOM" tell game seekers exactly what they're getting into when they join these games. This is no longer possible with the current Bnet2.0, as you are only privy to the game map name, and speed of the game.

Regional server options:

In the old if you had friends in different parts of the world (North America, South America, Asia, Europe), you can switch your server to hop over to any of those servers and play with/against them, albeit probably with much more lag, but nonetheless, the option is there. In Starcraft 2, you are locked to the region of your purchase, so there would be no way for you to change region servers. If you're in the east coast and want to play a few games at 2am and it's too late in the night to find many games on the east coast, you would not be able to hop on over to the west coast where it's only 11pm, and likely more players are still on.

RealID support requirement:

The Orwellian requirement to link one's real name and location to their PUBLIC support forum profile is ridiculous; the potential for abuse is endless, as it is for anything that reveals real, personal information. I guess one could make the argument that it is in the game's disclaimer, or just don't buy the game altogether.

Lack of LAN support:

This cannot be stressed enough, LAN is an integral part of modern multiplayer RTS games, even if the majority of players will not be using it often. Just because most people don't use Radians on calculators, does that mean we should get rid of it entirely and use only Degrees? The point is, LAN settings could range from fun, social gatherings with friends, to tournaments hosted at some internet cafe; being 100% reliant on to be up is hardly reassuring, especially considering that tournaments require the low latency that only LAN environments can provide.

Cost:

At $60, and with all of the previous issues addressed, Starcraft 2 is too much for its worth. I hate to say it, but as much as I love the game play and the level of polish, the price tag does not justify the clear omission of certain key features.

I love Blizzard's RTS franchises, but it seems that Activision-Blizzard has stopped caring about the long-time fans that catapulted them to their prominence today. I love Starcraft 2's game play and level of polish, but I cannot get past some of the egregious offenses that the game possesses.

I'm a big starcraft fan and I've been waiting for this game for what... 10 years now.

And the game is no disapointment. It's great. The problem is on how blizzard is using this great game to promote their crappy platform.

If you live in the US and has only american friends, you should be more or less fine. But if you live in a different country, be prepared to:

Play with a different language pack, often dubbed game (without the option to play with the original audio track);

Be limited to your country servers only (you won't be able to play with international friends);

Shame on you Blizzard.

i bought this game for my nephew for Christmas. He's a big fan of the author Riordan. So with the tie in to his love of the books and video gaming, I got him this one. He says it's not too difficult, but he is whiz at these games (what 12 year old isn't) He's already gone through the game once, but he's going back to collect items. i like that it's entertained him for awhile.

"It would be better if there were some actual explorations. There's nothing but fighting." So says my 15yo Percy Jackson lover, who also decided on the number of stars.

On the plus side, she does love the game, even though she had expected not to because it was a movie tie-in and these games are notoriously bad.

don't get suckered in to buying this game. it was again rushed to the market to capitalize on the popularity of the movie. a typical well playing games takes 18 months to 2 years to make it to the market but with a lot of these rush to market games it is just the basic sequences played with some familiar characters. it took my 9 year old about 5 hours to play through the entire game.

Disney Sing It: Pop Hits Bundle Reviews

Disney Sing It: Pop Hits Bundle
Customer Ratings: 4 stars

Disney Sing It: Pop Hits Bundle This is a totally wonderful concept... but just falls short of the 5-star mark. First, I want to say that I LOVE that the background of the game has the actual videos for the songs... not some goofy cartoon characters "mouthing" the words, etc. However, as many reviewers have already pointed out, these are not the most "popular" songs produced by these artists, which makes it harder to sing along with them. The songs are NOT easy to sing, especially if you don't know the words/tunes beforehand. Also, we already own Boogie Superstar, which we LOVE... so thought this would be fun too, as in this game you can sing with two microphones as a duet/helping each other. However, the microphone that comes with THIS bundle is not very good... doesn't work as well as the Boogie Superstar microphone at all. Half the time, this Disney mic doesn't pick up your singing, so you end up "missing" the notes, meanwhile my daughter who is using the Superstar mic is getting great scores on the same song. Lastly, although the Superstar mic has a long cord on it that plugs into the Wii... the packaging on this Disney bundle led me to believe that the microphone here would be cordless... NOT SO! It also has a super long cord, which is just more tangle to deal with. :(

So between the sub-standard (and misleading picture above) microphone, and the more obscure song list included with this game, I can only rate it 3 stars instead of the 5 star potential it should have had. Again, I DO like the duet option and the music video backgrounds, but wish the interface with the people playing the game was a bit better thought-out/quality.

Disney Sing It: Pop Hits Bundle is perfect for kids who love to sing along with the radio or music videos. My two granddaughters, 5 and 13, love it. It's something they can play by themselves, without adult assistance. In fact, they won't let the adults play! If you have older kids who are serious gamers, they would probably tire of this quickly, but it's great for youngsters (and their parents & grandparents) who are looking for something easy and fun!

Best Deals for Disney Sing It: Pop Hits Bundle

This product is cool and can be a lot of fun. However, it gets boring pretty fast due to the songs. There are not that many songs and probably half of the songs I have never heard before. At this point there is no way to add new songs and singing the same song over and over is only fun for so long. Otherwise, great game.

Honest reviews on Disney Sing It: Pop Hits Bundle

I bought this for my 13 yr old, and she is not familiar with many of the songs, but she does like it and she plays it sometimes. I think I should have gotten the original version instead of the pop hits. Also, my daughter wants myself and her grandmother to take turns with her, so I with they'd include a song that older people could relate to.

I love the layout of the game and the music with the background videos is great! Although it gets annoying that each video starts playing simply when you start scrolling down to see what offerings there are it burns me out on the tunes before I even click to sing them.

I don't like that the lead vocals cannot be turned off, meaning you are singing duet with the actual artist. While this can be helpful the first few times with a song you're unfamiliar with it gets annoying when you want to actually hear your voice singing the song. It's more of a sing-a-long than karaoke.

I like the voice bar that shows you in real time if your pitch matches the singer's. However, there is no explanation or meter to show if your harmonies are on or even how this is scored (even though it gives you a percentage at the end of the song). Without knowing anything else, it's impossible to improve (and no, it isn't listed in the manual).

The songs aren't well known, there were only 2 that I recognized off the bat. But, for the most part, they are really good songs just not well known ones. After a few times, you can pick up the song and enjoy it more.

Sometimes the words are the same color as the background making it really hard to read the line or next line and it takes a lot of talent to read the words, sing on pitch, and watch your voice bar all at once for songs you don't know.

I wish the microphone hooked up into the wii remote rather than requiring you to stand next to the wii console, plugged in.

Overall, it has room for improvement, but for a beginner karaoke (or even just someone who is looking to improve their pitch), it's a good game!

If you're a fighting game player, this is a great controller for doing so. All the buttons are represented (LB, LT, RB, RT + A, B, X, Y), as well as the start and back buttons.

The only thing I'd change is that I'd either add a little weight, or suction cup feet to hold it to a surface.

The buttons underneath the controller stick. The sticking buttons I can deal with. The easy workaround for the buttons (which don't have a good spring to them), is to just hit them in their sweet spot. That takes some conditioning, but it's doable. The problem with the control that bothered me the most was the right thumbstick's deadzone. There was about 2mm radius in which the right thumbstick did not respond. This flaw makes it hard to perform fast pinpoint accuracy with a sniper rifle or pistol. I finally ceded and went back to the first party controller because of the flaw. But if you don't need the accuracy, the layout and idea of the controller is great and it will increase your speed in jumping, switching weapons, melee attacks and using the action button. All the buttons are remappable and takes only a few minutes to do so.

Click Here For Most Helpful Customer Reviews >>

Good:

1) The layout, and the feel of the controller

2) Being able to Jump and Melee without removing your right thumb off the stick

Bad:

1) Buttons stick a lot not reliable for when you need it.

2) The Analog sticks have a little dead zone that makes aiming difficult.

3) Aiming sensitivity is inconsistent in different directions it's difficult to aiming quickly and accurately

4) Aiming sensitivity is really bad it's difficult to move the aiming-sight slowly to aim accurately... there's very little variation or consistency in aiming speed to how far you press the stick.

Conclusions:

1) The bad outweigh the good for overall FPS play.

2) Good only if you plan to do nothing but melee or jump in a shooting battle you would lose miserably.

The guy at Gamestop told me this controller was a piece of junk and I was taking a risk buying it. Well I did take that risk.

This controller is awesome. I normally cannot play FPS games on my PS2 without a lot of wrist fatigue, but this controller feels great. It has actual triggers on both sides with two buttons under each trigger. All these buttons are easy to reach without taking your thumbs off of the analog sticks. The other four buttons are placed directly under the analog sticks with the directional pad beneath the left one. The buttons (except start and select) are easily programmable to customize the controller for each game you are playing. You get a total of three saved button setups that can be changed at the press of a button, even during game play.

Sceptical? Don't be. Buy this controller and own your friends.

I have used the Xbox version of this controller for many years and have been very pleased with it. You do have a small dead zone on both thumb sticks, but once you get use to it, you don't even notice it =)

Without this controller I would not be a level 22 in Big Team Battle in Halo 2 =)

*XBOX FPS Master Controller* I've decided this is going to be my main controller. This controller is amazing. It feels as sturdy as the original XBOX controller and that's saying alot. It is very well made and appears it is capable of taking tons of punishment(yet to be seen).

It takes a few minutes to get used to the button layout, but it's well worth the time. It's very accurate and I love the way it feels in my hands. The button configuration is comfortable and it feels JUST RIGHT. The triggers are like guns and the button layout is on the handles. Like I said, "It feels JUST RIGHT!" It's easily my favorite controller, EVER!

Hats of the GAMESTER for making a quality controller that gives us FPS(First Person Shooter) fans the next best thing to actually holding a gun.

I give it 2 thumbs up and the finger! IT'S PERFECT

Tetris Plus

Well, almost. The developers added a few new twists, the most interesting of which is the puzzle mode. Each puzzle level begins with the professor standing on a different pattern of blocks. You've got to clear the blocks out from under him to get him to the bottom. If you don't figure out the right way to solve this puzzle, he climbs to the top of the blocks you're stacking up. The game's over when the professor and the descending spiked ceiling collide. This version of the game is entertaining and even challenging, although after a while you begin to wonder why you're trying to rescue a guy who insists on climbing to his death. Other new additions include an edit mode that lets you create and save your own puzzles. A split-screen mode enables two people to play Tetris at the same time without competing against one another. In the regular VS mode, you can still play the computer or a friend. As with most new puzzle games, you can send blocks to your opponents screen when you clear a certain amount from your own -in this case, two rows of blocks cleared from your screen means two rows of blocks sent to your opponent. If you like Tetris and you1re looking for a familiar, addictive game, this is the answer. Tetris Plus hasn't revolutionized puzzle games, but it's still fun.

I have loved playing Tetris ever since the classic NES and have had various handheld versions since they came out (I have even downloaded a version to my cel phone). I have pretty much given up on trying to keep up with new consoles, I've had my PlayStation for about 11 years and still break this game out once a week. My husband and I play head-to-head in the classic mode which is really what I bought it for. Once in a while I will give the Puzzle mode a go, but mostly stick with the classic. If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

Just as good as i remembered playing it on the first nintendo 20 years ago. This game is very addicting. This newer version with the PLUS added to the title, has a couple of other ways to play tetris. You can compete with a 2nd player, playing simultaneously. Really adds to the fun!

I bought this game looking for a way to play classic Tetris on PS3. I also bought with it 'The Next Tetris' by Atari, which I didn't find as entertaining or classic as Tetris Plus mainly due to the attempt at making the graphics "next gen". That being said, Tetis Plus is a great game for Tetris fans looking to play classic Tetris on their PS1, PS2, or PS3. You can play classic Tetris in one or two player mode, and also a versus mode that mixes things up a bit. In the versus mode there is a archeologist type character who dances and walks around on the top of your Tetris stack. You goal is to either get him to the bottom by creating an opening large enough for him to slip through, or keeping him alive longer than your opponent by not allowing him to touch the spikes. In versus mode there is also a spiked ceiling that slowly descends towards your pieces the longer you play the game. With most tetris versus modes when you get a double, triple, or tetris, an appropriate number of rows will appear under your opponents stack, thrusting their upwards towards the spikes. I haven't played much of the "story" mode of the game, but I imagine it offers more of the same. This is a great Tetris game.

I adore this game. It has several different games to play, puzzle tetris, regular tetris, VS tetris, etc. The regular tetris game is my favorite version for this reasonthe higher the level, the faster the pieces fall, but every few levels it gives you a "slow" speed to give you a rest, and gives you time to fix up whatever you may have messed up in the super fast ones. The puzzle game is also pretty fun. You have a little character, the "Professor," who climbs up the blocks you put down. The game starts with various blocks already in place, with the Professor walking around on top of them, and dangerous spikes at the very top of the screen. The object is to clear the blocks the Professor is walking on enough to get him to the bottom of the screen before the spikes fall on him. When he gets to the bottom, you move on to another puzzle with a higher difficulty than the previous one. I don't know how well I articulated that, but in any case it's really fun. It's a playstation one game, so you of course need a console that will play it, but it's so worth it. I bought a used PS2 just so that I could play this game.
