A Side note: I wont be re-hashing the many many reviews that you can find on the Current Gen Xbox 360 Hardware, as there are plenty of those out there for you to make a decision.

The Annual Holiday bundles are an amazing value. For the same price as the same spec system (amount of memory, Kinect included or not) you get the same system with 2 games. This year, for the 250GB model, they are including a Voucher to Download Skyrim. Important to know and keep in mind if your internet is slow, limited, etc. It also includes Forza 4 Essential Edition. I am not much of a racing game player, so I am not sure if that is what the normal version of the game is called, or if that is a special, some what limited version of the game. You also get the 1 month of Xbox live Gold, 1 wireless controller, and 1 wired headset. It does NOT include an HDMI cable, but instead comes with a set of Composite cables. Some thing to keep in mind, and if you need cables, buy from Amazon AmazonBasics High-Speed HDMI Cable (3 Feet/0.9 Meter) Supports Ethernet, 3D, and Audio Return [Newest Standard], or at least online. Any brick and mortar store will cost far more for a cable.

The takeaway is this, if you are looking to get a Xbox anyway, and are even slightly interested in either or both of these games, there is no reason not to get the bundle.

First of all let me say that this is an amazing deal. For the same price as the system without games you can have two games. Skyrim is the great game you have all heard it was. Those without a high speed internet connection may be a little peeved that it is only a download. The warning is concerning the other game--Forza 4. The copy that comes with this bundle is dubbed the "Essentials Edition." What this means is that the game is the same as the copy you can buy new except with 214 less cars than with the full game. You still have 320 cars and from the best I can tell the rest of the game is intact. This probably should not be a dealbreaker for most of you however as even without Forza, the Xbox 360 with the Skyrim download is still a great deal in itself. I wholeheartedly recommend this bundle.

It's a slim X360 with a price cut. Nothing new to add, so here's this bundle's fine print:

1) Forza 4 ESSENTIALS EDITION. It comes with fewer cars than Forza 4 (320 as opposed to 500+ish). Not sure if all the tracks are included.

2) Skyrim is a digital download, so you're s--out of luck if you were planning on selling the game.

3) It's 1 month of free Xbox LIVE Gold, not 3.

4) Get your own HDMI cable, this box doesn't have one.

5) Get a rechargeable controller battery, this box doesn't have one. AA batteries are so 1997.

Basically, Amazon needs to get the product description right. Other than that, it's nice to finally join the 360 party, especially now that the back catalog's best games can be bought dirt cheap on the used market.

Honest reviews on Xbox 360 250GB Holiday Value Bundle

Bought this to replace my old elite, Microsoft was going to charge me $120 to repair it so I decided to splurge and get this. Hard to pass up a deal like this. The 250gb console alone is $299.

With this you get Forza, not the complete game I guess (doesn't come with all the cars), but for a free game beggars can't be choosers. Downloadable copy of Skyrim, which won many game of the year awards last year. I also got TWO months of xbox live gold with mine, I noticed other reviewers saying they got one, I don't know if I got lucky or what but I ended up with two one month trial codes in mine. Also comes with one month trial of HULU and Epix. Only thing bad about this is it doesn't come with an HDMI cable. If you are looking to upgrade or replacing your old 360, this is the deal to get!

Ok so here it is, the bundle is the only way to go, why get the 4GB at the same price when you can get the 250GB, the Game forza is amazing it might not be the "full" version but it is still worth it, as for the skyrim download i don't know yet, but as i said for the money this bundle is really worth it for the $250.00....

A lot of the reviews here criticize this game for being difficult. I have this to say to that: DUH! Games are supposed to be difficult if they are going to be fun, right? If it were too easy, it might as well be a movie, right? (Though I hear that they are working on that :D)

Abe's Oddysee, as well as its sequels, have a few things in common that make them truly amazing:

1. Beautiful environments. I mean absolutely stunning. The artists working on this game capture an alien landscape with true finesse. There are a few times I just stop and gaze into the distance.

2. Great storyline, with characters to match. It's silly, but not so silly that it masks the anti-industrialist message. The game is something of a metaphor opposing clear-cutting and mass-species-extinction.

3. Refreshing style of play. It breaks from standard games by not having a life bar (one shot death in most cases), but that's balanced by having unlimited lives. Sure the puzzles are hard. Very hard. If you're up to the challenge, the rewards are soooo worth it.

Happy gaming, folks! This is a gem that shouldn't be missed.

What can I say? I absolutely love this game, and you will too. The humor can be sophomoric and grotesque, but that's really one of the appeals. The entire game revolves around solving puzzle after puzzle to rescue your coworkers from a factory where you and your kind are processed into food items. There's never a dull moment as you maneuver the many levels and challenges that always keep you guessing and on your toes. And did I mention how much fun it is? Goofy characters, a smart interaction with those you are trying to rescue, including learning how to properly speak to them, and fantastic landscapes are visual and mental candy.

WHEEL OF FORTUNE!!! Now it is on the Nintendo Wii and Nintendo DS. Also, for the first time ever, you can play along with host Pat Sajak. Never before has Pat Sajak been on a Wheel of Fortune video game. Also, his voice is there along with Vanna White and the announcer Charlie O'Donnell. Also, do not worry about getting confused. Charlie O'Donnell, Pat Sajak, and Vanna White all tell you step-by-step how to play the game, whether you are using Wii Speak or not. Please make note of that, you do NOT need Wii Speak to play this exicting game. All Wii Speak enables you to do is play the game by calling out the letters and solving the puzzles using your voice, just as if you were in Culver City, California in Sony Pictures Studios on the actual show.

Now, I have been to a WheelMobile event. I have multiple Wheel of Fortune games. I have played the Wheel of Fortune games for the following systems:

-Super Nintendo Entertainment System

-Various CD-ROM games (there have been more than one Wheel of Fortune game made for the PC or MAC).

-Wheel of Fortune Plug-n-Play

-Handheld Wheel of Fortune game

-Wheel of Fortune board game

Out of that list, the one that comes closest to giving you as much fun as Wheel of Fortune for the Nintendo Wii is the Wheel of Fortune Plug-n-Play because you can literally spin the wheel. However, there are no people on the game whatsoever (nobody at all, not even Vanna White).

Now, here is what I really love about this game. It is literally to the show. After Pat and Vanna come out, you start with a toss-up puzzle worth $1,000. Don't worry, they explain during the game how to play the toss-up puzzle, so you don't even need the instruction manual. Then, after the first toss-up is complete, Pat Sajak has you do another toss-up worth $2,000 and the right to start the first round. After that toss-up is complete, Charlie O'Donnell explains about the Jackpot because it is the Jackpot Round and he explains about what trip is being put on the wheel. Now it is Round 1. They explain how to spin the wheel, purchase a vowel for $250.00, or solve the puzzle. If you are playing without Wii Speak, do not worry. They give you plenty of time to pick your letters or fill in the puzzle if you are solving it.

Finish round one. Pat Sajak goes over to the winner and congratulates him or her. Then he announces that you are going to commercial. There are exciting games to play during the commercials. I want to leave them as a surprise because they are that much fun.

Now you are at Round 2. The only exciting thing about Round 2 is, like Round 1, the following is on the wheel:

-The trip Charlie O'Donnell talked about

-The Wild Card

-The "Free Play" wedge

-The "$1,000,000" wedge in between the two bankrupts

Also, round two or round three could be a "Prize Puzzle." This means that whoever solves the puzzle will win an exciting trip and the value of the trip will be added to your score.

Round 3 is the "Mystery Round." The Mystery Wedges are worth $1,000 for every consonant that appears but behind one of the 2 Mystery Wedges is a $10,000 cash prize. Behind the other is a Bankrupt. Will you go for it or play it safe?

After round 3, Pat Sajak has you do the last toss-up valued at $3,000. Then you finish the game until the Final Spin where Pat gives the wheel a spin and each consonant is worth $1,000 plus whatever he lands on, so if he lands on the $5,000 wedge, each consonant is worth $6,000. The vowels are free of charge during the Final Spin.

Then, whoever has the highest score goes on to the Bonus Round. If you have the Million Dollar Wedge, you could be playing for $1,000,000! Otherwise you are playing for a measly $100,000 (lol). You spin the bonus round wheel. Then you have to solve the bonus round puzzle. Pat Sajak gives you the letters R,S,T,L,N, and E. Then you get to pick three consonants and one vowel. If you have the Wild Card with you, you get to pick four consonants and one vowel. Then you get a good amount of time to solve the puzzle, or you could just click on give up.

So, there is my review. I give this game 9 out 10 stars! Go out and get this game. I would pay $50.00 for this game, so it is a steal at $30.00. Plus, it has the theme music. What more could you want!

It's Wheel of Fortune as it should have been ages ago! It's America's Game! Let's play Wheel of Fortune!

Also, I think the Mii Pat Sajak and the Mii Vanna White are dating!!!

I don't regret buying the game from Amazon for $27.99, but wouldn't have been happy to have paid fify as was the selling price at several online sites I checked out before here. The one good thing is that it is suppose to have over 8,000 puzzles and I imagine that it uses the memory on the Wii to keep track of what you've seen and not seen.

It does give WAYYYY too much time to solve puzzles and any player can sit and wait forever while making up his mind whether to spin, solve or buy a vowel. It does need improvement, but it is worth thirty bucks and you will have some fun. Me and my family set a rule that you have to have integrity and honesty on the pop-up puzzles, because once you ring in that you know a toss up puzzle, you then have fifty seconds to solve it and if you have three people, that's a lot of waiting if someone doesn't know it and wants to cheat. We also set a time limit of like five seconds in between deciding whether to spin, solve or what have you.

So to sum it up, you'll enjoy it but I hope the maker of the game makes some adjustments.

Just a tip for anyone who may read this: If you go to Wheel of Fortune's official website, you can download a trial game from "GameHouse" with sixty minutes of play time and the game cost ten bucks to buy after that. DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY ON THE OFFICIAL GAME FROM THE WHEEL OF FORTUNE WEBSITE. That game is only one player and the second day of playing, several puzzles began repeating. It is also a hangman style game in that if you miss five times, game over. I would expect much more from the WOF website.

I was so excited to hear that Wii was coming out with this game. I waited to read a few reviews before buying it and the reviews were all positive so I bought it and couldnt be happier!

This game is exactly like the the game show. It's a lot of fun to playeven alone.

I'd 100% reccommend this game.

Honest reviews on Wheel of Fortune - Nintendo Wii

I purchased this for my wife who likes to watch the tv show every night. Seeing how that most game show ports are mediocre at best, we rented this before purchasing. But I'd say you can go right out and purchase this one.

The game is just like the tv show and it's tons of fun!

The characters, voices, and game play are just like the show.

Where the commercial breaks would normally occur you can play puzzle mini-games which are also quite fun.

For those who wouldn't want to play the mini games, there is an option to disable this.

You can choose your Mii characters to play and their expressions when they win or lose are hilarious!

Overall a very fun game and with thousands of puzzles, you should be enjoying this for years to come.

I purchased this game after buying and liking the Jeopardy WII game put out by the same publisher. This game is very true to the actual game show and has all of the current Wheel of Fortune rules, which depending on perspective is either good or bad.

You begin the game with 2 toss-up puzzles. The first is worth $1000, the second is worth $2000 and control of the wheel for the first puzzle. You then have three puzzles to complete, one of which will be the prize puzzle.

In between the puzzles are mini games which you play to win extra outfits, prizes, and opportunities for new set designs. There are 3 different mini games. One gives you the letters RSTLNE and then 4 other letters guessed by an actual contestant from the past, and either player can ring in to guess the puzzoe. Another mini game is high low. Each player spins the wheel and Vanna calls out either high or low. The player whose spin is either the highest or lowest gets the first chance to solve the mini game puzzle. The last mini game allows each player to alternate choosing 3 consonants and 1 vowel. Whoever gets the most letters turned over on the board gets the first chance to guess the puzzle.

After those 3 puzzles and mini games, there is another toss up puzzle and whoever wins gets to begin the final round. There is always a total of 3 plays allowed in the final round before the bell rings and Pat tells you time is up and he gets to give the wheel a final spin. Then whoever wins gets to participate in the bonus round.

This game stays very true to the game...there is the Jackpot space on the board, the million dollar space, and the 1000 question mark where you can flip it over for a chance at 10,000 or a bankrupt. There is also a Free Play and a Wild Card which if kept can be used for an extra consonant during the bonus round. It is fun to use the different set designs once they are unlocked. They are well done...they are Hawaii, Las Vegas, Hollywood, Washington D.C., and New York City.

Since the game has dropped the ball so badly with Wii Speak, we don't even bother and play this using only Wiimotes which actually work better than one would expect.

We thoroughly enjoy this game, and I recommend it, but it is not perfect so here are the complaints my husband and I have with it:

For the majority of the games, the outcome is based solely on who wins the round with the prize puzzle...usually you win about 15 grand if you win that round which is hard to compete with.

You land on Bankrupt and Lose a Turn much more than you statistically should...we have kept track and we have never gone more that 5 spins without a Bankrupt or Lose a Turn and we have played over 30 games. We each average about 7 bankrupt spins per person per game. There is not a lot of control over spinning the wheel. You push the b button and there is a power meter and you swing the remote when you have the power you want, but it is definitely not an exact science and it is all luck. You aren't even able to watch the wheel the whole time it spins as it flashes you to views of the set, Vanna, and the contestants. I think the game developers secretly made it that way to toy with the players ;)

As others have mentioned, you are allowed 60 seconds to guess a puzzle which gets super cheap. You can ring in without knowing a toss up puzzle and you have 60 seconds to try and figure the puzzle out if you didn't know it. You also have 60 seconds per turn in the final spin puzzle which gets annoying as my husband hits solve each time he calls out a letter so I have to watch him spend 60 seconds each turn figuring it out. Also, before you choose to spin, buy a vowel, or solve there is no time limit at all so one can stare at the puzzle for an eternity trying to guess if they so choose. This is mildly aggravating, but I still find the game fun and it isn't annoying enough to be a deal breaker.

All in all, this is a very well done game. The graphics and Miis are great and the set design is amazing. I highly recommend it and hope that if they put out another game in the future that it will employ the usage of a Mii Speak type device correctly.

The game was great, my 3 year old played all the way through in about 2 hours. But once it's played that's it, nothing new. He now plays through in less than 30 minutes. It keeps his attention, but he's 3. I thought it was thought provoking and fun, until I finished and then to an adult or older child it's useless. The graphics are wonderful and the idea is too, it just needs more treasures and places to use them. I would recommend it to any Spongebob lover that is under 5 yrs old.

Honest reviews on SpongeBob SquarePants: Employee of the Month - PC

Like all games "Employee of the month" get boring and repetitive over time but rather than many replays and then getting boring, you will beat this game once (MAYBE twice) and then get bored with it.

the graphics are really good, colorful, and fun to look at.

the levels are fun but like i said only once (MAYBE twice)

I have one complaint: This game is too short. There are 4 different Bikini bottom locations that Spongebob must go through but these aren't LONG levels, you could beat each one in 10 minutes once you get good and even 20 minutes for your first time (it's really easy OVERALL)

the folowingstory synopsis should explain more.

SYNOPSIS:

SpongeBob wins the 'Employee of the Month' award again, so Mr. Krabs decides to name him the 'Employee of the Year'. He then receives some mail 2 tickets to Neptune's Pacific Paradise (usually called Neptune's Paradise in the game). He gives them to SpongeBob for winning the 'Employee of the Year' award. And that's where everything begins.....

Spongebob has to collect some money to board the bus (Level 1 objective) and then when the bus gets stranded in rock bottom you'll have to work to fight your way out of RB only to get stranded in 3 other levels/locales. Finally though, Spongebob is rewarded when he makes it to park of his dreams.

Overall: I recommend this game to BIG Spongebob game junkies and other than that i'd have to recommend that you stay away from this game and get "Battle for Bikini Bottom" for Playstation 2, Gamecube, or XBOX (the PC version sucks)

"Employee of the Month" is FUN, but is REALLY short and you can beat it in 45 minutes (NO JOKE). I played it my first time and beat it completely in 90 minutes over a period spanning 2 days. my second time i played it, I beat it in 45 minutes and enjoyed it far less.

We received a preview copy of Disney's Universe for the Xbox 360. I played the game with my eight year-old son and it was a blast. It reminded me a lot of Super Mario titles with cooperative play and coin collecting. The costumes were very cute and the levels, all based on Disney films, were inventive and charming. The co-op play was a little frenetic and we had to really cooperate in order to defeat the enemies, solve the puzzles and keep grabbing coins. I asked my son to write this review. These are his words;, I only typed them.

You're supposed to defeat levels and get costumes. It is really fun. I liked the TRON suit the best. You are supposed to do the objectives. They pop up on the screen so you know what to do. You had to build cannons in some levels and move the fire around. For instance, you use the cannon to shoot the bridge pieces and make them fall down so you can go across. When you do all the objectives, the exit shows up and you have to go through it to win the level. You have to collect all the Mickey coins. You buy worlds and things with the Mickey coins. By the way, the worlds cost 2000 Mickey coins. You have to defeat all three levels in a world to get enough money to buy the next world.

Hint: Always use keys to open the chest. A star pops out which levels up your character and your weapon.

I think that kids that like to play video games will like this game. Disney Universe is like Super Mario Galaxy and Super Mario Galaxy 2. I played the Pirates of the Caribbean level, Monsters INC, Wall-E levels. I can't wait to play more.

We have a 9 year old girl and 6 year old boy, and we enjoy gaming in our family. We have iPod touches, Nintendo DS's and an Xbox 360 with Kinect. A good family friendly video game in general can sometimes be difficult to find but this one is pretty solid.

There are six worlds which include Alice in Wonderland, Lion King, Pirates of the Caribbean, Monsters Inc, Alladin, and Wall-E. Each world has three levels with enemies to defeat, coins to collect and puzzles to figure out. The play is actually quite similar to the Lego series but much easier since the game gives you the objectives as well as hints. For difficulty comparison, my husband and I get called for help on various Lego stages but my kids had no problems figuring out how to pass each level and eventually beating Disney Universe on their own.

1 to 4 players can play which is a nice option. There is also a mini game within each level where you compete with the other players. Of course, the best feature is the ability to unlock a huge variety of costumes for your character from all of the worlds as well as other notable Disney names such as Mickey, Nemo and Tron. There is also downloadable content available for additional costumes and levels.

Overall, the game is a whole lot of fun for kids. Mine were cracking up the entire time.

Best Deals for Disney Universe - Xbox 360

Well, to begin this review, I must allow you to know that I am a disney fanatic that is in college. So this review may be a bit biased, but I'll try to avoid this.

I began by playing the pirates of the caribbean stage which is unlocked from the get-go. If you are playing this title by yourself, you may get bored. But, when you play with 1-3 more people, it gets very interactive. Each world has three levels, and there are things to collect in each level. Most collectibles that you snag in levels will be unlocking concept art, which I was not too interested in.

There are characters to unlock in each world. Each world holds 6 characters. By beating the world once, you will get 3 of them. If you play the world again you will get the remaining three.

So far, my favorite character is hercules, which I earned by preordering this title.

Pros:

Excellent with other people

Unlocking characters will cause you to keep playing

Great background

Minigames were creative

Cons:

Levels can get tedious

Pretty Easy

After unlocking character, you have to pay for them using coins you gathered in worlds

The most fun in this game came from unlocking characters and throwing teammates off edge.

I'm overall pleased with this game!

Honest reviews on Disney Universe - Xbox 360

I bought this game specifically so I could have a game that my daughter (7) and I could play together.

The game is somewhat easy, but the puzzles do make it difficult for a child to play by themselves, unless they spend a lot of time playing games.

If you are buying this for a child 8 or under, I would suggest having an adult play with them. If the child is good at games, and likes the disney characters than you may be able to go a bit younger.

One feature that is great is being able to unlock new characters, plus you get three for free from ordering from Amazon.com :)

I've been a gamer for 30+ years and am really excited to share the fun with my children. There aren't too many games out that both new and seasoned gamers can enjoy together. We had a blast with this one. My son (4 yrs old) really handled the controls well and loved unlocking the costumes. A couple puzzles required some help from me or his older sibling. But otherwise he could play alone with ease. I enjoyed collecting all of the "coins" and getting all of the collectables per level. A lot of fun, pretty weak story line, good graphics and sound. We beat the game playing casually over 2 weeks.

The game arrived in excellent conditions. I am a F1 fan from about 13 years, and have enjoyed this game a lot. The transition from dry weather to wet weather is huge, and the game demands your focus in every inch of the circuit, like I assume it is in real live. It is a difficult and so much precision game, so for gamers that like a more arcade approach, this is not your game.

Wow....I just finished beating the game and it was quite a thrill ride!! It's got drama, suspense, fighting and PUZZLES!! Oh, the puzzles!! Makes me feel like a kid on an easter egg hunt! My particular faves were the cryptography puzzles...Brings back memories of when I was a child...Where I lived in a place where the invasion of my diary (or anything private) was never a question of 'if' but 'WHEN', so I came to learn cryptography all TOO quickly (before I even learned there was a name for it, matter of fact).

These puzzles aren't brainbusters mind you, but it gives your mind a brisk little workout. Be advised: keep a notepad beside you as you'd most likely need it (to store clues as you play). And for those whose brainpower's a little on the flabby side: keep ASPIRIN handy.

In case you might wonder why I don't give this game a perfect 5:

The movements on this game can be a bit of a problem...For instance, if you may walk up to a door (which requires a key) and attempt to unlock it with your key, it MAY NOT work, which sends you on an exasperating search of the area for what to do next since that "apparently" isn't it...Out of desperation/curiosity/frustration you happen to try the door w/ key again and IT WORKS?? Why didn't it the 1st time?? Not a worry if it happened once, but it to me happened several times throughout the game. The other thing is, how you can pore over vast expanses of houses, buildings etc. with many rooms going, inch by inch only to realize there was 1 item to find?? And having your partner walk so close to you can really aggravate you sometimes (like if you're trying to make a sneak attack on an enemy or even WALKING OUT THE DOOR!!) Or walking for (seemingly) miles to your next objective only to have go way out of your way (again) just to fetch ONE item that you need to proceed (like at Westminster Abbey)...That can be a bit tedious....But then again, if the dots were close enough together, there'd be no mystery to solve, right?

So, for a stimulating change from the mindless, all-too-common BUTTON-MASHER games out there, The Da Vinci code is the one you may have been waiting for...

...It may even interest people who are not normally interested in playing video games, it's just that appealing and engaging.

I havent gotten very far into the game, and i have to admit i did have to cheat and go online for some help in some of the puzzles. Honest reviews on Da Vinci Code - Xbox

I enjoyed this game, all in all it had some issues but they are easily overlooked and I've seen far worse. I wish we would see more games of this kind, reminiscent of "Syberia" and "Post Mortem" on the PC. Keeping this short and concise, The graphics were above average, the music was fitting and engrossing and the challenge is worthwhile. The replay value is only to challenge the Hard difficulty if nothing else. I also thought the combat system was fitting and intuitive but a bit unpolished. If you loved the book and or the movie then I think it's worth the money to buy this gem and relive it all over again and with some new twists.

Find helpful customer reviews and review ratings for Da Vinci Code - Xbox

Being a huge fan of the book and now the movie, I was excited about this game. The puzzles were too easy for the most part. Only one or two had me for any length of time, if I could call it that because I beat this game in about 6 or 7 hours. I would have liked to see difficulty levels. I feel like I played this game on the easiest setting. Now don't get me wrong I did like this game a lot. There are many good things about this game. The minor deviations from the book were great...The location renders were awesome...I think I spent at least an hour just wondering around, looking at things, not really trying to solve the puzzles presented. All and all I would recommend renting it instead of buying it because the time it took to finish didn't merit the money spent.

My kids and I all love the Pokemon Gameboys (the three of us each have our own Gameboy). The blue Pokemon game is very similar to the red, with the Yellow having some slight differences.

The foremost of these is the fact that Pikachu just won't stay in his Pokeball! He follows you around in the game, and you have to keep him happy or you lose points and various opportunities. I also like the addition of Jesse and James (characters from the cartoon), and the additional battles they provide. If I had to pick just one of the three, this is the one I'd pick.

I like the way the Pokemon game challenges kids. I suggest also buying one of the books which shows the various routes and places. This allows kids to work at the tasks without getting frustrated.

The idea is to start at Prof. Oak's house, get your first Pokemon from him, and then journey all around the land of Pokemon, collecting various wild pokemon (which you catch by battling them until they faint), and doing battle with other trainers along the way.

In the process, kids learn to manuever through mazes of increasing complexity (which is why the manuals are a help), to gather and use items, and to develop strategies for fighting various types of Pokemon. My five year-old even started to read while using her Gameboy, from needing to know which items she had with her (in her Item List)!

All in all these are great games which can be played over and over (although only one game at a time can be saved), and which will provide your kids with hundreds of hours of fun.

I was immensely excited for a NASCAR game to FINALLY come out for PC but I feel like this is just another big game publisher exploiting the fandom of "insert-sports-genre-here" for profit. NASCAR The Game 2013 feels very broken and unfinished. From jittering cars during caution laps, to the AI literally racing THROUGH THE INFIELD, game crashing everytime I try to pit and don't even get me started on the paint shop.... I was only able to dive into the game after spending HOURS with steam support trying to troubleshoot why my XBox 360 controller wouldn't work with the game; despite it's claims of having "Full Controller Support." I finally discovered that the device drivers of my keyboard were conflicting with my game controllers drivers and the only way to play the game was for me to disable my keyboard in the device manager. I would also like to add that prior to purchasing this game that my XBox 360 controller worked with many racing games including GRiD, Dirt 2, MotoGP 2013, TrackMania, every Need For Speed game that I own and many many more. It is only with NASCAR The Game 2013 that I have encountered all of these problems. I give this game a big fat "meh.." It needs work... badly. This game has so much potential but I would strongly suggest against buying this game. The graphics look great and the controls weren't to bad but the bugs and game crashes rendered the game completely unenjoyable for me. Maybe next years version will be a little more polished.

UPDATE: After a month of testing and work on a new patch the developers barely fixed the AI, didn't fix ANY bugs and created even more. They have proven to myself and many others that they are incapable of fixing the issues that exist with this game. I strongly urge interested buyers against buying this title.

I still love Nascar Racing 2003 but the graphics are obviously 10 years old. So I figured I'd buy this and see how it was. It's ok. The graphics are much better but the rear-view mirror needs to have better graphic capability. All the cars in the rear view mirror look like Land Speeders from Star Wars.

But my largest bewilderment comes from the apparent lack of tire temperature readings for each tire (inner, middle, outer). The most important piece of information for a team to see what their race car is doing is by deciphering the tire temperatures. As of yet, I haven't found them... just little temp indicators in the HUD. Every other NASCAR racing game that I use (iRacing and NR2003) does it right: after a run and you return to the garage, you see the tire temperatures of each tire. I don't know how someone can set up a car properly without this basic information.

Now, I've only used the game for about two hours and maybe I'll get used to it. It just was a glaring omission right off the bat.

For those people who say it's too hard or unrealistic: I say they don't know how to drive a race car. I started out with the drivers on Championship ability and don't have a problem. And that's with me still trying to dial in my G27 Racing Wheel.

Best Deals for NASCAR The Game 2013

Initially the game was very frustrating using a 360 controller. Really felt I needed a wheel to be bale to make the turns as I was completely unable to run a race without continually crashing or getting passed rapidly ending up in 43rd place. Even on easy and getting the pole only was no help as I would immediately get passed on the very first turn and the only thing that would stop this was a caution.

Playing with the assists finally got me to the point where I could at least run around 30th or so once the traffic cleared out, but a yellow would bunch everything back up and I would end up shuffled back to the rear again. A problem I noticed was that my car was simply not as fast as the other no matter how well I drove. I needed the upgrades but that took points that were coming very slowly due to the poor finishes.

That's when I had the "aha" moment. Using ArtMoney (search for it extremely easy to use with good PC knowledge), I gave myself 1,000,000 points, maxed out all the upgrades, and started winning certain races quite easily. I found that tracks where brakes are actually used a fair amount were easy to win (Both road courses, Bristol, Darlington, Martinsville, Dover, etc.) while the bigger tracks were still impossible to win, but could actually finish middle of the pack when using the "retry" multiple times if needed. You get two "free" retries per game, then they cost 20,000 pts. But with basically unlimited points, this is not an issue. I ran Bristol on medium and ended up finishing 3rd and could not catch the two cars in front of me and had to really block to stay in 3rd over the last couple of laps. That was quite fun.

I played thru a season and decided to skip the large tracks where your finish position is simulated. I think I probably had an average finish of 15-20th for the races I skipped, which was plenty to get me into the chase. I used the same strategy during the chase and did end up racing at Homestead. Finished 20th and won the title by 12 points.

Using help, the game is playable and can actually even be easy (for certain tracks) on easy mode.

Honest reviews on NASCAR The Game 2013

It's an arcade game rather than a racing simulator. Unfortunately, it's also the only recent NASCAR PC game available, so you don't really have any options if you want to play a stock car racing game. The AI crashes you constantly, which can get REALLY annoying, but also helpful once you realise that you can pick up 10+ places after a big smash by just jamming on the accelerator and smashing into the pack (which is what the stupid AI cars do anyway). The cars also deliberately drive in front of you as you approach a smash, so sometimes you can weave your way through. I have all damage turned off, as it would make the game just about unplayable with it on, I think.

Of course, if you don't turn off all flags and cautions, the race just restarts and it's only a pain in the ass (it still throws some flags even with it off).

You car is also REALLY slow for some reason, and you have to race about 10 laps to catch the others before you can get a decent field position. Every other car will zip past you at the start, regardless of your starting position, and unless you deliberately get out of the way, the AI will cause you (and only you) to spin out/get turned around and immediately put you into 43rd place (in most races). Be prepared to get frustrated and restart the game multiple times. I haven't updated it (2 updates out so far), but it crashes pretty regularly after the race (including some 1st places had to deliberately get 2nd or 3rd a couple of times) and when you try and restart races. On the up side, the game loads quite quickly (lol).

The car models are pretty crap, but they look okay. The "paint booth" is buggy, and didn't work for me. The customisation of the cars is alright, but pretty basic, and I haven't seen it really make much of a difference to the performance. You can adjust a bunch of settings (weight distribution, steering etc), but I don't bother much. The track graphics are pretty basic. They look okay, but it's not all that impressive graphically (at least by 2013's standards). Of course, the whole NASCAR vibe is impressive, and that's what the game relies on. Racing the different tracks is good (Talladega, Bristol, Daytona etc), but only because it reminds you of NASCAR, not because the game presents it well.

Given the massive overblown budgets of recent "AAA" games, NASCAR The Game 2013 actually does okay with average graphics. It does the job and you get to smash Danica Patrick off the track for intruding into a man's world (I joke, but you can wipe her car out go Danica!).

The physics are okay, and the cars seem to handle realistically, but I've only been able to play it well using a keyboard. Using my Logitech controller would be great IF the thumbsticks worked... but they don't. And the d-pad only worked some of the times (ie: the car would just drive straight into the wall on turns, regardless of what I was doing).

Once you get over these amateur and stupid game designs (if you can), the game is kind of fun. Once you realise that it's just an arcade car game and not a serious racing simulator, the game is kind of fun. As I said, it's the only NASCAR game available on PC, so what else are you going to do? Given the popularity of NASCAR, it would be great to see a really well developed stock car racing game as an actual simulator with 2013-level graphics, rather than this cheaply made game. Alas.

It's really only worth about $14.95 at most to be honest. $19.95 is a bit steep for such a weak game, but if you dig NASCAR, it might be worth it.

Maybe it,s just me, but my Thrustmaster doesn't work that well in this game, and had to configure it in the middle of races.

Graphics are OK, maybe with another wheel it can be a great game.

Fallout Tactics is a great, great game. I loved Fallout and Fallout 2 (as well as their early predecessor, Wasteland) but I was leery of this game because of reports it lacked the intricate plot of the first few games. While that is technically true, in the sense that your main character is not necessarily the focal point, the game is just as complex and challenging. You simply need to recast your focus as leading a squad rather than being an individual. In the earlier games you could recruit NPCs, in this game, you finally get to run them. Your main character matters only in the sense that if they die, they game ends. Otherwise for all practical purposes you have 6+ main characters; you level them up, pick their various stats and perks, and control them. No longer need you fret that your NPC will randomly start using grenades in a hallway or gun down your other NPCs in an attempt to shoot something beyond them (this can still happen, but it'll be your fault). This makes Tactics a real draw to me, because now you can develop 6 or more (you can swap characters in and out of your squad at bases, so you can really have as many characters as you want) different characters at the same time, rather than one game at a time with the earlier Fallouts.

The missions are mostly fighting, but not entirely.. there are often NPCs to talk to, items to recover, things and people to protect, and other objectives. The Fallout games were 75% talking and bartering, 25% fighting, while these are 75% fighting, 25% talking and bartering. And Tactics is still obviously grounded in the same warped sense of humor as the others; the many random encounters are hilarious, and the comments people make even while fighting can be both grotesque and hilarious at the same time (one raider I shot in the leg to slow down his retreat started stumbling along while mumbling "...bone so white..").

Fallout Tactics is probably most accurately described as Post-Apocalypse XCom, because most of the time you're on missions with your squad. I loved XCom too, but Tactics has better graphics, more interactive environments, a much wider array of skills and equipment, and that scathing sense of humor. It also has many vehicles you can use in missions and travel around the world map in, including armored Hummers and army tanks. Here are just some of the many different tactics you can employ:

1) Make a character crawl on their stomach in Sneak mode past a pair of sentries to put a proximity mine on a bridge to blow up reinforcements when the fight actually starts.

2) Fire away merrily from inside your speeding hummer, running over anyone who gets in the way.

3) Target attacks at victims' eyes or legs or other body areas for increased damage or status effects from broken limbs, dropped weapons, etc.

4) Lob grenades over walls or into doorways while shooting in through windows.

5) Sneak up on sleeping enemies and use pointy knives or spears to avoid alerting the entire camp.

6) Dodge from tree to tree in a city park trading fire with people on the roofs, in nearby buildings, or running around in the streets.

7) Perform combat first aid with field packs and doctor's bags while ducking incoming sniper fire.

8) Use your Repair skills and tool kits to repair your damage tank or robot PC.

9) Play as mutants, robots, ghouls, or even deathclaws in addition to humans.

In short, you can do almost anything..the game rewards curiosity and experimentation. If you liked the Fallout games, you'll like this one. If you haven't, this is a great introduction.

Honestly, I'm pretty surprised by some of the reviews people are leaving here. This game is so absorbing and engrossing that I've had a lot of trouble looking away from my computer.

Please note that this game is not Fallout 3. A lot of people seem to be having trouble realizing that. A common complaint people have been leaving is that this game isn't like the first two Fallout games. Of course it's not. It says on the box that the game is "tactical squad based combat." It's not a RPG game likes its predecessors, and reading the box before buying the game would inform you of that. Secondly, some people complained way back that Fallout 2 was too much like the first Fallout, and complained that you couldn't control other members of your combat party. Fallout Tactics gives you full command of a six person elite killing squad, and is a completely different game that Fallout 2. Isn't that what people wanted?

But I digress back to issue at hand. Fallout Tactics is a marathon of 20 military missions that span the radiated wasteland between Chicago and Denver. You begin as a meager tribal initiate in the Brotherhood of Steel. Your task is simple: sucessfully complete each mission presented to you by your superior officers. As you move from mission to mission, 1)your military rank within the Brotherhood increases, 2)you acquire more potent and powerful arms and ammunition, 3)the number and skill of the recruit pool(used to fill your squad) increases, and 4) you come to face to face with one deadly enemy after another.

You are given a variety of options in combat, all of which cannot be listed because it would take forever. Among the noteworthy: you can set traps and mines to take out enemies; you can kneel or lie on the ground, decreasing your chances of being hit and improving the success of the sneak skill; you can climb towers and rooftops to attack enemies on the ground; you can drive vehicles and run over anyone that gets in your way; having control of all six members of your party allows you to flank enemies, or flush them out into open space, or use snipers to provide outside cover for big guns specialists etc. The list goes on.

The type of missions that the Brotherhood sends you on cover a broad range of military operations: you infiltrate bunkers to assassinate leaders; you must move cargo trucks through enemy filled towns; you must find stranded and wounded fellow Brotherhood members and evacuate them to safety; you must destroy power generators in a major city; you must rescue captured civilians, etc.

Now the issue of gameplay. You can fight in either tradional or continuous turn based combat. Traditional works in the same manner as the other Fallout games, where each character has a alloted number of action points to be used before his/her turn is up. Continuous turn based combat is lunacy pray your strong enough to not get slaughtered. While I agree that the AI could be a little better, you can easily compensate by turning the difficulty level up. And please note that some enemies such as animals and Super Mutants are meant to be unintelligent. That's part of their character. And despite what some other people wrote in reviews, I consistently face enemies that duck behind sandbags or obstacles when fired upon. And I repeatedly encounter enemies that will move to help fellow enemies that are being fired upon.

Fallout Tactics is an incredible squad-based combat game, where the gamer controls the Perks and skills of every member of his party. If you liked the combat aspects of the first two Fallout games, you will have a lot of trouble putting this game down. The missions are long, complicated and can be completed in a variety of ways (you can use stealth, evasive tactics, or just plain load your guns and shoot at anything that moves). This is a terrific game. Highly recommended.

Best Deals for Fallout Tactics

Fallout Tactics puts the gamer in the shoes of a shakey young recruit hoping to make his or her mark in the baddest... military outfit imaginable: the Brotherhood of Steel. Players of the first two Fallout games will immediately recognize that paramilitary organization as the same folks who had the cool power armor and hyped-up weaponry which helped them survive the post-apocolyptic wasteland envisioned by Interscope in the first two games. In this game, the player does not have to fret over communication and thieving skills (as in the previous Fallouts) and instead must construct a character that kills well. That is what separates Tactics from the other Fallouts. That has its positive and negative angles.

Fallout (1 and 2) are splendid; infinitely replayable; luscious in texture and mood; mean, horny, wild, and believable. Tactics intends the player to enter that same wasteland (middle America after a nuclear war) and basically kill for the cause of Brotherhood supremacy. Every mission is outlined. Every objective is clear-cut. Everything is less ambiguous; and hence a bit less fun.

The hoot about Fallout 1 and 2 was that you could do whatever the heck you wanted. Fallout Tactics is straight-forward, almost to a fault. However, that said, it is a glorious game visually, and a clear signal that Interscope is aiming the Fallout label towards greater heights. Fallout is amazing. Fallout 2 is even better. Fallout Tactics is the same world, but a different game, and reassures the gaming public that the designers have not yet run short of ideas.

The best advice I can give is to NOT buy the strategy manual. I heard it was impossible to complete the game without reading hints and whatnot. Bogus. With patience and perseverence, you can attain the rank of General (your name) and lead your squad to victory... And help maintain the survival of humanity on the rock once known as Earth. It really is a [great] game.

By the way, the actor that plays "Red Forman" from That 70s Show plays a commander in the game, and you have to hear it!

Honest reviews on Fallout Tactics

I am certainly doing my part to waste time this spring. The Monday before I picked up my computer I snagged a copy of Fallout Tactics from Fred Meyers. An inordinate amount of my time has been sacrificed to complete this viscerally addictive game, to the point my college grades suffer.

Based on the (insert superlative here) Fallout series of RPG's, Fallout Tactics trods a new direction into the world of "squad-based" combat (since a squad is actually a ten to fifteen man unit-as opposed to six-it would be more appropriate to call it team-based combat). You are a Brotherhood recruit, the first line of defense against the degenerates of Mid-Western wastelands. You serve a faction of the Brotherhood sent on a reconnaissance mission over the Rockies... only to end up stuck in Chicago. No more. Much has been learned, and it is time to return to California.

Fallout Tactics arrives on three discs, and since I have the space and RAM to run everything off my hard drive I do not know when or if a transition between discs is needed to play. I suspect three discs are required to contain the quite impressive quality and quantity of sound which shake my sub woofer. Explosions reverberate. Rifles crack. Mysterious objects in the distance squeak and howl. Many areas feature creepy night-time desert wind sounds. And when one crawls through a subterranean bunker and hears the anguished cry of some inhuman thing in the darkness, one tends to feel unnerved. As a cherry on top, Fallout Tactics leans heavily on voice acting. The infamous actor of Full Metal Jacket's Gunnery Sergeant Hartman lends his Marine drawl to General Barnaky, your character's CO. Many other familiar voices will pop up.

Such characterizations seem to substitute the dialogue screens of the original RPG. Instead of picking witty conversation options, your character simply listens to an NPC-while subtitles present themselves in a tiny dialogue screen next to a green thumbnail still of the speaker. Such is why I must stress Fallout Tactics is not a role-playing game so much as it is a post-apocalyptic Syndicate. Elements of Interplay's Fallout scheme appear, but it is action and blood at heart, like any first-person shooter. And like British cyperpunk or cyborg-demon shoot `em ups, Tactics obeys a very linear story which moves, moves, MOVES PEOPLE! No side adventures to the Sierra Army Depot or Broken Hills. Every experience is an official Brotherhood mission related to the tale. Virtually all missions involve killing multiple someones... such is life in the Brotherhood.

Such life means house-to house fighting, bunker raids, sabotage missions, and mazes worthy of the most convoluted Doom or Quake level, only not in first-person. And if this sounds tedious after a while, fear not; for as Tactics declares, life in the Brotherhood has changed. Each level is increasingly difficult and destructive, as your enemies grow in numbers, firepower, and armor far greater than is available to your squad. Ammunition for the best weapons is scarce and by the time you collect a decent amount, the enemy has better armor and you have found a new weapon. Tactics never fails to keep the player on toes and practically falling out of chair.

Sometimes such challenges border on frustrations. Unlike the RPG's, one has the option of real-time play, where only the use of equipment is governed by action points which continuously regenerate. This is effectively real-time. It also effectively keeps you from laying back on the trigger of your Vindicator mini-gun ala Syndicate. While the enemy can't do the same to you, I always found victory through a superior rate of fire and a large magazine to be a particularly effective means against cyborgs. Ah, but this is tactics, not hitman, and Tactics allows your character to sneak, crouch and belly-crawl. Those of you used to the stand up fights of Fallout will die very quickly. As mentioned, even mere human enemies can frequently wipe your squad out with greater skill and power than you can hope to wield. I have spent as much as an hour attempting to advance six feet. Fallout Iwo Jima would be an accurate nickname for this game.

To help the uninitiated-or shall I say InitiatesI offer some handy tips.

1. Achieving rank in the Brotherhood is important. Rank allows you access to better gear and team members.

2.All ammuntion aside from 9x19mm is scarce. You will find very few shotgun shells or rifle rounds. Use submachine guns as much as possible in the first two or three missions. Especially save shotgun ammo for super-mutant and robot missions. Once you finish the first super mutant mission, 7.62mm will become abundant, and you will find fair amounts of .50 caliber and 5.56mm rounds.

3.Avoid close combat. Your team is stuck with weak leather armor until you first encounter robots. Most of your enemies will have higher hit points and armor class. I have had human enemies KICK my character to death even as I fired chaingun bursts into them at point blank range. Many of your enemies are so tough, they will actually run out of ammo and charge you before you can kill them. Super mutants and robots also have super tough critters charge you while their buddies fire. Automatic shotguns, especially the Pancor Jackhammer, will decimate close foes. BEWARE OF SCURRYBOTS!

4.Mass sniper rifle fire should be your choice of attack whenever possible. Always have an automatic shotgun or a Browning M2 in your other hand in case the enemy charges. If an enemy is entrenched but cannot detect you, lay mines and toss grenades to save ammo (and your life). Finally, if forced into close combat, use Browning M2s and automatic shotguns, or at least FN FALs and Steyr AUGs.

I must say that Fallout 1 and 2 are my favorite RPGs ever. Due to their non-linearity, a storyline that is epic but not only that, it was done in a hugely customizable way. They give you a world, you create most of the story.

This is one thing I resent about Tactics: you are pushed in one direction and one direction only. Of course there are moments when you can choose from two missions, for which one to accomplish first, but in the end they all must get done. The last area is the only time you have a chance to make an affect on the ending, but the endings can be interesting especially if you're a fan of the series. If they don't make a new Fallout RPG in the future, I'll be extremely disappointed.

Those points aside it is a far-above average tactical, squad-based game at the time it came out and still good today. Your characters can be greatly customized. It can be nice to keep all them alive because newly recruited squad mates may not be as completely tailored to squad needs, but overall there's no need to fret as you can hire more. Just don't let the main character die or game over.

You create a main character with who is better in some base attributes than others, such as perception, strength, intelligence, etc. Your other squad members have these set by the computer. These factors determine how much weight you can carry, what size weapons you can use, how far you can shoot with accuracy, how well you can speak, how quickly you can level up skills etc etc. Through the game as you gain levels you can upgrade all your troops with their various weapon skills, explosives/trap skills, lockpicking, sneaking, and just about anything else you could hope for in an elite military force. Perks are also gained every few levels, which can definitely be fun to sift through and once you pick one, can really help you out.

Pretty much it is in the player's hands to determine what each character can do, how well he can do it, and overall create a kick ass tactical squadron. It is best to have a well-rounded squadron, with at least one guy that is pretty good at electronics, one at explosives, one at lockpicking, and like any good combat game you don't want all six snipers or all six heavy-gunners. It's great fun to mix it up, use various combinations of weapons to make yourself a liquid force.

Overall it made some very good spins in my CD-ROM.

First off, I must address the numerous reviewers who are complaining that Platinum is essentially a remake of Diamond and Pearl versions of Pokemon.

Yes, it is. And everybody should have known that before blowing $40 on it, simply by reading the product description. The third installations of all 4 Pokemon series of games have always been remakes of the previous 2. Yellow was an enhanced version of Red and Blue; Crystal was an enhanced version of Gold and Silver; Emerald was an enhanced version of Ruby and Sapphire; and now, Platinum is an enhanced version of Diamond and Pearl.

This is how the Pokemon games have always worked, so it is beyond me why so many people are now complaining about it. Pokemon games typically get 4 1/2 star ratings on Amazon, and Platinum is now poised to have the worst rating out of any Pokemon RPG game, when in reality, it is the best.

Now that that's out of the way...

I partially gave Platinum a 5 star review to counteract some of these 2 and 3-star reviews we're seeing, but I truly think it is a great game. If you have a DS, Platinum will give you as much fun as any other DS game you have. Very casual Pokemon fans who already own Diamond and/or Pearl might not feel the need to buy this game. More serious Pokemon fans, and newcomers to the series, on the other hand, will love this game. I have played through all 13 previous Pokemon RPG games, as well as the Gamecube games, several times each, and Platinum still captivated me enough to get me playing for 5 straight hours without a break! (Not exactly the healthiest thing to do on a regular basis, but parents, think about the possibilities of getting your kids to sit quietly for a few moments...)

As mentioned above, Platinum is essentially a remake of Diamond and Pearl, but with enhancements. The storyline is tweaked a bit to keep things interesting, and there is a new legendary Pokemon for you to capture. Some places have been redesigned, and there are new characters. A very welcome addition is a new Battle Frontier, back from Emerald version. The Battle Frontier will keep you playing hours after you complete the main quest.

Besides all the new changes, the raw appeal of catching Pokemon, training them, and battling with them is ever present in Platinum version, and really, isn't that the reason these games are so loved, anyway? Ultimately I give Platinum version a heartfelt recommendation because it is fun, will provide hours and hours of gameplay, and is accessible, yet challenging. Platinum is the best Pokemon game. Newcomers, start here. Oldtimers...you know what to do.

Best Deals for Pokemon Platinum

Pros:

+Simple, yet addictive gameplay

+Deep, strategic combat system

+Touch screen controls make battling easier

+Wi-fi improvements

+Being able to battle trainers all across the globe and being able to trade with them is fantastic

+Game can keep you busy for hours with all there is to do, easily over 80 hours worth of gameplay

+Some new additions for those who mastered Diamond and Pearl

Cons:

-You can still only save one file

-Graphics and sound were outdated even in 2007, and they're still outdated

-The formula works, but there are bound to be gamers out there who are sick of the same old storyline

-If you mastered Diamond and Pearl you probably won't have much incentive to play through Platinum. This will change from one gamer to the next

When Pokemon Red and Blue came out, Pokemon Yellow followed just a year later to expand on the games. When Pokemon Gold and Silver debuted, Crystal followed shortly thereafter. When Ruby and Sapphire came out, it wasn't long until Emerald followed. It was only a matter of time before Pokemon Diamond and Pearl also got a third version into the mix. Pokemon Platinum. Just like the previous "third" versions of the games, Platinum adds in a few new things, though it's hard to say you'll ultimately want it if you've already got Diamond and/or Pearl and you've already worked your way through them. Then again, you might find some of the extras worthwhile.

Pokemon has been doing the same thing since it came about ten years ago. The formula is so familiar to gamers that there's a "been there, done that" kind of feel all over. You choose a starter and go off from home to collect several Pokemon, collect gym badges and ultimately defeat an evil team of Pokemon Trainers that are up to no good. All the pieces of the formula are there. If you've played any of the previous Pokemon games before then you've been here before. Yet it doesn't stop Pokemon from being an overall addictive game. While some will find Platinum (as well as Diamond and Pearl) to be a little too much of the same thing, the gameplay can't be denied. Pokemon has been doing the same thing for over ten years now, and it's still fun.

Pokemon is actually really strategic and in-depth. That is to say, it requires a lot of thought, and believe me, some of these battles require a lot of your skill. Battles are turn based, where you select a command and then watch a round of combat. There's a paper/rock/scissors effect here, however. Each and every Pokemon has a type, and some of the attacks they use reflect its type. This makes up what deals massive damage, what deals no damage and what deals just normal damage. Grass may be strong against water, for example but grass is also weak against fire, but in turn, fire is weak versus water. This effect plays through with seventeen and different types, and there is no best type because every type has a weakness. It's because of this element that Pokemon is so much fun to play. Just trying to construct the perfect team will take you more than a day, and with over 100 new creatures to collect, you can form endless amounts of teams. Just catching all the Pokemon alone will keep you busy for well over 50 hours. To add to the effect you'll face several other trainers as well, and you never know what they'll throw at you. Your strongest Pokemon may very well become your weakest in certain battles just because of its type.

The battle system itself is made even simpler by the touch screen. Where as before you were scrolling through menus, battling can simply be done by touching the different options on screen. It makes battling a lot faster, especially because the icons are pretty big. Luckily, there's never really a point where you have to use the touch screen if you don't want to, and battling can still be done the old fashioned way if you so choose.

As with Ruby and Sapphire there are also moments of two on two battles. Usually they come with either two trainers taking you on at a time, and you'll send out the two Pokemon in your top roster, or you'll be with another trainer who will send out his or her Pokemon with yours. It adds to the strategic feel of the game, but the moments of two on two battles are pretty few and far between.

Pokemon Platinum adds a couple of new things, though not much. Most notable is, of course, is the distortion world. Aside from this there's not that big of a motive to get Pokemon Platinum if you mastered one of the other two versions. It's great if you don't have either one, but it's hard to want to pick up Platinum just for the Distortion World alone. There are a couple of other little goodies sprinkled about, including improvements in the online factor of the game, but it's still essentially the same game you got two years ago. And for the most part, that isn't bad.

The Pokemon games in and of themselves are full of little hidden secrets. There's so much you can do after the main quest is over. You can also enter into different contests as well as go after legendary Pokemon. Pokemon can easily keep any gamer busy for well over fifty hours.

Pokemon has never really been a game you go after for eye-candy. There are some moments where some 3D effects come out, but not very many. The sprites are more or less the same sprites they've been using since the Red and Blue versions. Ideally, the game doesn't look all that much of a step up from Ruby and Sapphire, and they were not fantastic looking games either. It's really colorful, but the DS is capable of so much more than this. Likewise, in battle is still the same. Fun to do it, but the Pokemon still only flinch to attack, and there aren't a lot of animations going on, and we're still looking over the Pokemon's shoulder. Essentially, the combat engine hasn't changed since the series first outing in 1998. There are some move animations that look really good, but aside from that it's hard to look past the simple fact that the game's combat engine hasn't really evolved since the original games came out way back in 1998. This isn't the original Gameboy, this is the Nintendo DS.

The sound is also no exception. A lot of it sounds really tinny. Most of the sound effects such as the Pokemon's cries are ripped straight from--you guessed it--the original Gameboy versions released in 1998. That's not to say all the tunes sound bad, it's just to say that a lot of what you're going to hear is recycled. While the sound effects are dated, the music certainly isn't. It's upbeat and keeps you on your toes.

In the end, the production values aren't exactly something that'll disappoint you. Though it might still be nice if someday Pokemon could get an update. It's still an improvement.

Despite the games graphics and sound, Pokemon Platinum is still an excellent title. If you don't have Diamond or Pearl, you might as well pick up this one. If there was anything to fret about over Pokemon it would be that it's just too much of the same thing. Not to Pokemon Diamond and Pearl, but to the series as a whole. There are plenty of additions, but the truth still stands: We've been doing the same thing for ten years. But it's still a fun game regardless.

I purchased this game for my 8 year old grandson, but the 14 year old cousin enjoys it just as much.

Good action and child level battles. I would highly recommend this game for 7 or older kids.

I bought this game the day it came out. Being a huge Matrix fan, and an avid gamer, I thought that I would enjoy the game immensely (I'm also a huge fan of Shiny Entertainment I loved Earthworm Jim and Wild 9's). Sadly, while the game IS fun, I wish they had delayed it to make it perfect. As it is now, it's only slightly above average.

As you undoubtedly know from every other review, the game shows the events of Matrix: Reloaded through the eyes of two characters: Niobe (Jada Pinkett-Smith) and Ghost (Anthony Wong). You see things from different perspectives, and see how storylines from the movies are tied into each other (Also, it ties the Animatrix storyline "Final Flight of the Osiris" into the movie, which I thought pretty cool). The game contains tons of FMV that you can't get anywhere else, so Matrix fans pretty much don't have an excuse to not get this game. For the rest of you, I'd read the rest of this before you make your purchase.

The game has many good things going for it, but Shiny always has some huge "but" to destroy any good notions you had. The character models are gorgeous, but the textures boring and the levels sometimes downright ugly. The fighting engine is magnificent, but the enemy AI either stupid or bug ridden (ie, SWAT members walking into walls, facing away from you while you pulverize their pals, etc.). The levels inventive and huge, but save points pop up too often, and many of the sections between saves consist of (not exagerrating at all) running literally 20 feet, seeing an in-game cutscene, running 10 feet, seeing an FMV, then save point. That's it. That's not fair to the gamer. I like to earn my saves if it's going to be a "save point" system. Plus, sometimes the levels consist of "run here, kill the guards, and enter the door." It could've been so much better, had just a little bit more time been put into it.

Also, the game has some of the worst driving levels I've ever seen. You can only be one character or the other, so you either drive (Niobe) or shoot at people chasing you (Ghost). And, no matter who you are, your buddy is a moron. You actually have to hold down a button to get Ghost to shoot at cops, or the twins, when you're Niobe, and you have to pray the AI Niobe doesn't run into every single obstacle in your path when you play as Ghost. I think they were decent, but it could've been much better... and God, the city streets are ugly as hell. Midnight Club 2 and Grand Theft Auto have shown that the city can have personality. The driving graphics are inexcusable.

However bad that sounds, the main component of the game is the third-person (think Splinter Cell) type adventure, and it's actually done quite well. However, the whole time I was playing this, I couldn't help but think, "Why couldn't they let the camera be controlled by the gamer? Why do they wish to punish us?" Splinter Cell's control scheme could've been used, and it wouldn't have affected anything (they barely use the right analog stick at all), and it would've basically eliminated all of those nasty camera issues that this game has. Nothing is worse than fighting 6 guys, then having the camera swing 180 degrees around, then trying to figure out which way you were headed. This should have been addressed early in the stages of the game design. It's almost as bad as Nintendo not having any different control schemes for Metroid:Prime. Talk about aggravation.

Also, I won't discuss the "pseudo-flying" level which finishes the game, because it is the worst level I've ever had the displeasure of playing. The Squiddys are so poorly shown, it looks like cheap "green-screen" effects from the early 80's.

All in all, this game disappointed me. I love the Matrix, and I liked the Matrix: Reloaded. I like Shiny Entertainment, and I think that this could've been one of the greatest gaming achievements in recent history. I wish that Shiny had held back the game until Revolutions comes out, and ironed out all the bugs, changed the ... control scheme, fixed some textures, and thought out the obvious stupid stuff this game seems to fixate on (constantly reincarnating enemies in a closed Post Office, etc.) and this could've been the greatest game of 2003.

I'm still upset.

For anyone who doesn't know this game weaves in and out of the movie. You play as either Ghost or Niobi on missions that run parallel to the latest Matrix movie.

The movie sequences were probably the best part of the game. The cutscenes were shot while the movie was shot, so the look is very authentic. The story, much more complex than the first Matrix, is explained a little by the game.

The driving sequences were difficult, and more frustrating than challenging. The hovercraft gameplay was infinitely more frustrating.

The graphics are pretty good. Most of the levels looked pretty good (the hovercraft and sewer levels looked absolutely terrible). The graphics are about as good as your typical 3rd person shooter. The characters looked a little boxy, and Niobi and Ghost look a little awkward when fighting.

The controls are a bit counter-intuitive: with black as the firing button, and the right thumbstick bringing bringing up first person zoom. You cannot control the camera angle. Sniping is damn near impossible. The kung-fu fighting is not as good as a genuine fighting game (Tekken, DOA, etc), but it's not so bad as to really take much from the game.

The focus element of this game is, perhaps as expected, the most fun. The characters can focus, slowing down time so you can do cool stuff (run along walls, jump long distances, dodge bullets, etc). There are a lot of cool things to do in focus mode, and it makes the game worth playing.

This game will keep you busy for a lttle while. The bullet-time makes it worth playing and the cutscenes keep it interesting. If you're not a Matrix fan, definately try this before you buy. But be forewarned this game is difficult to master.

I was fortunate enough to get to play through the game recently, here's what i thought of it

Graphics:

Character Models are are really good, but the environments don't look nearly as good. There's little to no atmospheric effects (fog, rain, etc). All in all the game looks bland. Special effects, like bullet time, are well done. Motion captured moves have choppy transtitions. (for example, the end of a punching animation does not smoothly flow into the animation for kicking, leaving the game looking jerky) . I saw a special on mtv about the game. It was pretty clear that ETM uses a modified version of the Messiah engine. The programmer was demonstarting the same tessellating polygon technique used in Messiah. It's interesting to see how powerful some aspects of the game's graphics engine can be, and yet the game still looks so bland.

Sound:

No problems here, uses mostly the ochestral score from the first movie.

Gameplay:

Kung Fu battles can easily be won by mashing buttons, except against agents. Go into focus mode and then mash buttons to hit an agent.

Gunplay is awkward, at least on Xbox. Using the black button to fire your gun is not very intuitive. Sniping is very frustrating, you push the right analog stick to enter first person mode, then you must push fire to bring up the reticle if you did not already have your gun drawn.

Running up the walls, backflips, etc. are all easy to execute and can be useful in doding enemy fire. Strafing is a pain in the neck, i don't understand why shiny chose not to let you strafe with the right analog stick.

Overall the 3rd person missions are usually short in length, The combat is unvaried. Many sub-levels are very similar. Once you've seen a couple, you've seen them all (with a few exceptions)

The driving in the game is mediocre at best. There are about 4-6 driving levels. The environments are empty, very few cars, even on the highway levels. The enemy AI is downright stupid. The physics are horrible.

The flying levels are downright unplayable, i didn't play as ghost, so i can't comment on the gunning levels.

The cinema scenes range from great to poor, but some are definitly worth seeing.

Hacking the Matrix:

a fun aside, one of the best parts of the game. I think i've completed everything possible in it, in which case it doesn't add more than an hour or 2 to game length.

Playing through as both characters:

More of a chore than anything else. Alot of repeat levels, through there is some new content. It's like how you used to have to play through Tony Hawk games with multiple characters to unlock things: you've seen most of it the first time through.

RENT it, it's not very long about 8 hrs, and it certainly does not have much replay value. It seems like they got way too caught up with all the technology they had available and didn't take the time to fix the gameplay problems.

Honest reviews on Enter the Matrix - Xbox

When I heard about this game, I didn't think it would be much more than a re-make of Max Payne (which is an awesome game nontheless). But when I bought it I was blown away by the realistic looking faces and unbelievable cut-scenes. Did I mention the real movie cut-scenes done by the real actors? This game is a Matrix movie in and of itself. With a special "Hacking" feature, you can actully "hack" into the Matrix mainframe. I use this feature to insert many cheat codes that make life in the Matrix soooo much easier. I could beat the game without them, but this just speeds things up. You can also unlock secret messages from Morpheus, Trinity, Neo, and many more other characters. I played this game after seeing "The Matrix Reloaded" movie and couldn't believe how well the storyline ties in with the movie. The decisions you make in the game actually affect the outcome at the end. It's actually 2 games in one since the gameplay as Ghost is totally different from that of Naiobi. Oh, and with a certain cheat, the game becomes a multi-player fighting arena. Yeah, Enter The Matrix goes Tekken. Awesome!!! Well, I hope this review persuades you to invest in this amazing peice of the Matrix Trilogy. Sure, the graphics can be a bit choppy at times, but the overall experience is definitely worth the bucks.

The matrix. A great movie. A grand movie. Enter the Matrix? Find the exit quick. Fortunately, you can be told how bad this game is, you don't have to see it for yourself. This game is a dissapointment. The movie was so great, hype surounded the game, it came out, people were fooled.

Bad graphics + glitches + bad control = bad game.

If you have twenty bucks then simply buy a tom clancy game (splinter cell, ghost recon) or for ten bucks more get Halo. But please, please save your trouble and stay away from this game. Please don't be fooled. And if you don't believe merent it.
