The Age of Kings (AoK) along with its expansion pack, AoK:TC (The Conquerors--which we now call "AoC" when both are installed) is a superb game for either "Multiplayers" who play on-line or "Singleplayers" who don't. If a game which has a historical aspect to it which resides in the 1,000 year realm of ancient history stated has appeal for you (which isn't all 'hoked_up' with fantasy creatures), you cannot go wrong with purchasing the "Gold pack". I've been playing AoK/AoC for more than 2 years now and it still holds fascination for me... and many others that I know. Just today I was teaching one of my 10 year old grandsons about the game when he was visiting. We'll get him the Gold pack. My son introduced me to the game in Dec. '99.

Yes, in order to play AoC which epitomizes the development of the game, you need to install from both disks, first installing AoK, then removing it and installing the AoK:TC disk which you leave in the tray (it must be in there when you want to play). You can then go online to either Microsoft's or Ensemble Studios' websites for the game, Age of Kings: The Conquerors, and download the 1.0c patch which fixes any minor 'bugs' discovered and rectifies a few civilization "balancing issues" which have come up. Thus buying the Gold pack is a real good deal for anyone getting the game now as it cost me more than twice as much to have bought AoK & then AoK:TC, as they came out.

There are so many ways to play this game that it almost boggles the mind, but preferred game modes are "Conquest" followed by "Deathmatch" in popularity amongst "Agers". If you really want to learn to play the game using the various "strategies" for the 18 civilizations which Agers have developed, it's a good idea to join a good Ager gaming clan such as Tonto Clan, which caters to both Multiand Singleplayers. You can find Tonto Clan by doing a websearch for "tontoclan1", or look for "Tonto Empire". The clan celebrates its 2nd birthday the 13th of March, 2002, so you know they aren't fly-by-nighters. And that's a good place to ask any questions one might have about the game.

A final thought: "Real Time Strategy" is a bit of a misnomer, oxymoron, in computer games as "twitch-and-bang" on the keyboard doesn't really give a person time to think, only act and react. But an aspect of AoC that makes it come closer to being enabled as a true strategy and tactics game is that you have the "Pause key" which when playing Singleplayer you can use to pause the game in progress in order to "think on it" a bit and decide what next you want to do. This brings yet another dimension to the game that most don't have.

There are other RTS 'historically based war games' which have come out since "Age", but it is surprising how many people will try them and then just keep coming back.... to AoC. And, for my money the next RTS slated to come along that might be as good or possibly better isn't projected to hit the market until Spring (if then) of 2003.

The improvements in game play in Age of Empires II: The Conquerors is one area of this game that has been largely improved. Everything from the actions of your units (especially non-combat ones such as villagers or fishing ships) to the organization of your military units has been refined to provide a much better gameplay experience.

Age of Empires II: The Conquerors also provides some new civilizations. They are the Aztecs, the Huns, Koreans, Mayans, and Spanish. Like the civilizations that came with the original Age of Empires II, these civilizations all have their own unique strengths and weaknesses. For instance, since the horse was not native to the Americas, the Mayans and Aztecs cannot create Stable units.

Since the Mayans and Aztecs have also been added to the game, it would naturally make sense to add new maps to the game as well. Tropical terrain is one of the many new additions, as well as Winter terrain. There are also maps from the real world, which basically let you fight it out with an enemy on a location such as Britain, France, etc. However, there is one small complaint on the real world maps -you can't adjust their size, which makes sense, because it's the real world, right? However, it does kind of get annoying, especially when you have to hunt down the LAST enemy villager over a larger area than you would normally have to. Still, it is nice to be able to see battles occurring where they actually happened.

Another nice feature of this game is the ability to command allied computer players. Short on food? Just ask for it! Most of the time they will give it to you, unless they either don't have a market (which is necessary to give tribute), or they simply don't have the resources to spare, which generally happens when you repeatedly ask for resources over a short period of time. You can also command your allies to do anything from build a Navy to stop building villagers.

Speaking of villagers, they are also smarter than they were before. Remember before, when you would create a mining camp right next to a bunch of gold, and your villagers would just stand there and look at it? Not any more, now all of the villagers that were involved in building the mining camp (or town center, mill, etc.) will begin to collect resources after they have completed the building of whatever it is you have just created. Also, after they have finished, say, collecting all the gold that a given mine has to offer, they will begin to go towards another mine (if they can see it, which occurs if you have the All Visible option turned on). This is an obvious help, especially when you have other things to attend to, such as holding off an enemy that's at your gates.

Overall, Age of Empires II: The Conquerors is very much improved from the original Age of Empires II: The Age of Kings. It is light years ahead of the original Age of Empires due to its many new improvements. If you bought Age of Empires II: The Age of Kings but never got the expansion, I would highly recommend picking it up. For those people who never bought anything in the Age of Empires II series, I would highly recommend picking up the Gold Edition of Age of Empires II.

I bought the AOK in 2/2000 and the Conquerors the day it came out in 9/2000. (Also played AOE I from 1998-2000). In my opinion, no other series is as comprehensive and fun. I have also played Empire Earth, Age of Mythology, and Rise of Nations. Here's why I like AOK the best (I'm referring to the most recent release, the Conquerors edition):

By the way, I only play Standard games, I've not tried any of the campaigns so I don't comment on them.

1)Time The game is simple to navigate but has so many different angles of play. I can start a game with myself and two computer players on the hardest level and whip both of them within 3 hours. I've been playing an EE game off and on for 1 year and still cannot win. The short games keep me interested.

2)Ages There are only 4 ages. This makes the game manageable for those who can't spend 15 hours a day on the computer playing games for weeks on end. Empire earth has around 10 ages and Rise of Nations has a lot as well. Upgrading the ages in AOK is not that hard.

3)Units There are enough units here to keep me happy. Calvary, infantry, archers, naval units, seige units, special units with each civ. There are almost limitless ways to play the game. I play calvary one time, then infantry once, and so on. Never gets boring.

4)Graphics Now that some of the newer games are out, the graphics are only so-so but it's still not that bad.

5)Civilizations with around 13 civs and each having a unique strength and weakness, it never gets boring playing different ones and learning about each.

Here's why I like AOE better than Empire Earth:

1)The graphics are much better in Empire earth, but I cannot beat the game. The AI is very tough. I can nuke the computer down to 10 units left and 5 minutes later he has 300 armies and 100 buildings.

2)Simplicity. As I stated above Empire Earth is great fun, but almost too much action.

Here's why I like AOE better than Age of Mythology:

1)I am very disappointed with Age of Mythology. I find it downright boring.

I've only played rise of nations a couple times but I do not find it to keep my interest as AOE does.

Happy gaming.

This is a great set. It comes with two cds. The origional and the expansion. This game is even more fun if you play on line against other people. Or you can make your own game against the computer on a number of different maps. Control their difficulty. Change the map size or just play thier campigns.

They also have many civilizations to pick from. You could be the Vikings, Japanese, Spanish, Goths, Britons, Chinese, Saracens and more. While playing you have fun while also learning. They even have a history book built into the game that tells you the militant history of each civilization.

This game is truely amazing, it is a huge step up from it's predecessor. Apart from having more units than AOE1 you can manage them a lot better aswell, you can put them into units and select different postures, you can also mix the units so that you have balanced armies. There are many civilisations to control each having its own strengths and weaknesses. The game itself is very balanced, there are no units without weaknesses (if you don't know how to kill elephants use massed amounts of scorpions) and no civilisations without it's flaws. I won't go into detail about what you can get because that will spoil the suprise for you.

there are only a few problems with this game and i will list them:

1)there is a population limit

2)the people and buildings are not to scale

3)if you play this over the internet there is usually alot of lag

there you go thats about all the problems

by the way this game is awesome over the internet, it makes such a difference fighting against real people.

Review of Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 4 PS

Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 4 PS

Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 4 for the PS1 is a very well designed game. You can now, on the new Go Pro feature, choose which goals you want to complete. No more long checklists of goals you have to complete in 2:00. You can now take all the time you want to explore a level before doing a goal. This is one of the good qualities of the PS1 version, but, for every good quality, there is dissapointingly a bad quality.

One very bad quality is that all the levels are now designed in some kind of 70's/80's era where there are no bold lines. This have never looked this way on Tony Hawk games. The first level, College, is designed to look more real and like the PS2 version, well, the fact of the matter is, it can never look anything like the PS2 version because it is PS1. The makers of Tony Hawk's Pro Skater have stupidly tried to expand PS1 graphics furthur than they can go. On the Alkatraz level, when you are going into a different area, you have to skate through a black pit that mysteriously takes you to the other side of where you are going, this does not look real. Another awful problem Tony Hawk 4 is having is one that all of the Tony Hawks have had, when you go to 2-player mode the levels get smaller. Even though this has always been a problem, it has never been this bad. I must admit that when i went to 2-player mode i thought my PS1 had defaulted, there is nowhere to skate. The sky disappears mysteriously and all the secret skate spots are gone. Another question i have been wondering is why does it say on this products description that you can 'Skich on the back of a car', let me ask this website one question: HOW DO YOU 'SKICH ON THE BACK OF A CAR' WHEN THERE ARE NO CARS! HOW DO YOU SKATE THROUGH TRAFFIC WHEN THERE IS NO TRAFFIC! These are bad marketing problems, if you didn't know better, you'd buy this game thinking you could do those things when you can't. And what the heck happened to the PRE-MADE SKATEPARKS. They are the same ones that were in Tony Hawk 2.

I think that the Tony Hawk games have gone in a tragic decline since THPS2. Sony needs to understand that they should not keep bringing these games out for PS1. The majority of gamers have a PS2, X Box, or GameCube already so what is the point? I have listed how i think the Tony Hawk games for PS1 rank in order of how GOOD they are:

1. Tony Hawk's Pro Skater The original and my favorite of the PS1 Tony Hawk games.

2. Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2 Designed wonderfully, great level layout, tons of new features, awesome!

3. Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 4 New features, new design, not that many new options.

4. Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3 Poor design, no new options or features, no new design, awful gameplay, not a good Tony Hawk.

i got this game for chistmas last year. it is fun but a little hard.

GRAPHICS 10/10

you can see every thing very clearly at all times

SOUND 10/10

it sounds like a real skateboarder skating

DIFFICULTY 10/10

it has goals that range from newbie to pro skill levels

the object of the game is to collect goalpoints and move to different levels.I have beaten most of this game but so far there have been no skiching on cars or skating through traffic.this game is worth every cent you pay for it. you do not need a strategy book to beat it.it may be hard at first but after you get out of college it gets really fun. dont worry after you pass a level you can explore before you try carrer mode

I bought one of these Dance pads after doing tons of research. It came in the mail very quickly (though I bought from step2ddr, not amazon). There is a connector box that goes between the pad and the system for some reason that has the "start" and "select" buttons on it. This is the only stupid feature about the product. It has caused the pad to short out a couple times. My SO and I play very heartily on this pad (about 2.5 hours a day since June 1) and it is sturdy enough to handle our constant barrage of steps. The buttons work great in terms of sensitivity! There has been no cracking on the arrows, the sensor zone is large, and the sunken arrows really create an ease of play. You must wear shoes for this pad or you will hurt yourself!

UPDATE: It's been about 6 months of owning the dance pad, and a week ago, one of the buttons finally cracked. This hasn't affected gameplay at all, but if it ever did, you can purchase new ones (they're easily removeable). The pad will short out from time to time, but that happens to me a lot less than it does to my SO maybe it's a weight thing. It's corrected by disconnecting and reconnecting the cables.

If I didn't own this pad, I wouldn't be nearly as good at DDR as I am now. It's very fun and pretty, and I'm proud to own it. There's no feeling like being able to play DDR on a hard pad every day for as long as you want without having to pay. It's well worth the initial money, and the small issues are pretty standard on many gaming items. I have a feeling I'd still be shelling out $20-50 every few weeks or months if I continued to try to use the soft/semi-hard pads.

Let me write here and I think it would be helpful so review (but of course) English only.

It is a review for those who have lived in Japan for us, that, I want you to ship to Japan.

It is the flow of the ship from the first order, while they also took several hundred dollars just another controller carriage, for the U.S. Amazon will do the shipping, this controller requires only about 1000 yen.

I was able to get this controller so in about 18000 yen.

Were to be with, take about 4 days to 2 weeks to arrive from the ship, the goods arrived in 5 days from order.

Ease of purchase, I truly think Amazon.

Thoughts as a controller.

I'm playing with Stepmania connected to the PC. (The judgment is easier to fit)

Therefore, delay, etc. I do not know.

Reaction of the panel itself and you can enjoy a comfortable DDR without well, slipping out just freeze arrow.

The reviews often feel that you step on, sinking, feeling like stepping crawl to a feeling that the switch is attached to the base or to.

However, in order to grasp so sensuously whether or not this is in stepping are stepping in reverse, it is incredibly easy to play.

without moving the controller for the back is machined entirely non-slip, even stepped on Lv17, etc. For the purpose of the current table difficulty, play the music mad comfortable.

However, because you just hooked a leg injury to this screw pile of screws that secure the panel is large, and do it barefoot, shoes it is mandatory.

Because the skin of the sole of the foot is stiff, his Although not hurt, especially AC so playing barefoot regularly, and I do it and be cut definitely towards the ordinary and do it barefoot.

If you want to do with barefoot is recommended that as a measure, replace the screws, etc. purchased at home centers ultra low head screws 5mm.

No longer caught in this, I can with confidence slide step.

I thought that the beginning is painful and there is no bar Naa, the accuracy of the score of AC is far better off now I will go up if you do DDR accustomed to at home without bar.

Please try not hesitate and buy all means those who are, I think I want to do a DDR perfectly at home. It is recommended!

i couldn't get my hands on a cobalt flux so i went with this pad instead:

* three weeks in and the right arrow started to malfunction. i got it working again by removing the panel (four screwed brackets) and cleaning the sensor surface.

* four weeks later the same thing happened to the up arrow. same problem, same solution.

* four more weeks and the down arrow stopped working. i had to add some sheet metal under the panel to get the sensor to start registering again (the trick was that one end had to remain in contact with the metallic frame).

so the sensor design is rubbish (copper plated, activated by foil under the panels), but i think the sheet metal solution (26 gauge, $5 at home depot) will hold up and i plan on redoing all the sensors this way if/when they break down.

other than that the pad is decent:

* it moves a little bit on carpet but nothing worrisome.

* the select and start buttons are located on the control box rather than the pad.

* the arrows don't light up when you step on them.

their website indicates no refunds after 30 days and their tech. support is exactly as useless as you can imagine so be prepared to DIY if you want to get your $230 worth. bottom line is that i would now go with one of the $150 pads instead of this one since i believe they use the same sensor design and would require the same level of maintenance.

Honest reviews on DDRgame Playstation 2 - USB Energy Metal Arcade 3 in 1 Dance Pad

I am running windows 7 64 bit home premium. The instructions below will not be exact for anything but windows 7 but if you're half computer savvy, or know someone who is, it's not a hard translation.

Out of the box my computer registered the buttons for this dance pad as a joystick which eliminates all possibility to do left+right arrows simultaneously and up+down arrows as well. st first i thought it was the sensors were touchy or the control box was broken (which in fact 1 of them was broken and I bought a new one from DDRgame for like $30 which was acceptable for such a high quality dance pad.)

After a few days research and a little tinkering I found that the pad was being discovered as a HD compliant game controller and a unidentified device when i plugged it in even though it was just 1 dance pad. and started working out exactly what I could do to fix it. many people were swearing by this adapter and that cable and this program and that other BS something. I didn't want to have to rig something to make my investment work so I spent my weekend finding a way to fix the problem instead of going around it, and here's what came of my weekend.

INSTRUCTIONS HERE Make sure everything is unplugged.

Go to Start menu>Devices and printers>Plug in your dance pad and watch what changes>right click on the unidentified device that pops up when you plugged in your dance pad>Click properties>Hardware tab(if there are no tabs skip this step)>Click on the USB device>Click properties>Click on change settings>Driver tab>Update Driver>Browse my computer for driver software>Let me pick from a list of drivers on my computer>Select USB device>next

READ THIS

It should then merge the two devices into one which works properly. If this does not work on the first try go back to printers and devices click on the new device that represents your dance pad and update all the drivers the same way I just explained. The only difference is when you get to the last step, Make sure you select the same driver name as the one you wanted to update. EX. you update the HD compliant game controller drivers. On the last step choose HD compliant game controller instead of USB device. etc.

For those who want to use StepMania Make sure you remap your dance pad keys (arrows and all buttons) after doing this because the arrows will now be mapped as buttons instead of joysticks and your game won't recognize that you're pressing them until they are mapped properly.

I've had this pad for some months now and it still works to this day. on occasion if i leave it unplugged i'll have to go back and reset the drivers again but all the buttons and arrows are just as responsive as day 1 even after months of daily use by two teenage 200 pound boys with their shoes on. I have 2 of these pads and couldn't be happier.

I ordered two of these units to replace an aging metal pad I bought ages ago. I've had these for a few months, and darned if they can't take abuse. I wear shoes when I play, and these things take it like a champ. They're very sensitive, the control boxes are sturdy, and there isn't much interference. I use this on a PS2 for DDRMAX and DDRMAX2, as well as In the Groove on PS2 and PC (StepMania on PC as well). I can't vouch for the Gamecube or Xbox connectors.

The buttons are slightly recessed, which is good, and the corners are protected with metal plates. I would recommend against playing on these with just socks on -you'll slip and cut your foot open on the corner.

Wonderful buy. I plan on keeping these for a very long time.

You're very active with the progress. As others have mentioned, you have to calibrate it constantly, but I found that it's easier if the Kinect sensor is mounted 5 feet above the ground, and you do it exactly like the demo says you should (not half@$$ing it) and it works well, I've never had accuracy issues. It is certainly a bit repetitive in some aspects, but so is any game once you've played it a dozen times. However, I don't think the default 1 star reviews do this game justice.

First skateboarding game I played was Tony Hawks, 1&2. The best skateboarding game of its time. Decided to take a look at the Skate 2 demo (mind you, I've never played Skate 1). I was BLOWN AWAY. Tony Hawk, move aside, Skate 2 is the new and improved kid in town! I shortly bought it after not getting enough from the demo. Well worth the money. What a revolutionary title! Forever more, skate 2 is gonna be known as the skateboard game that changed it all. No longer do you get to add stats to your player (speed, Air, jump, etc) everyone is on an equal playing level. If someone else can pull off an amazing trick/jump/flip, I can do it too. Anything is possible! There are little challenges and what not, but honestly, if this game came without the challenges, I would be happy. I just do them to do them. The people over at EA really did a good job with the city design. You will never get bored cause there is always something new to attept. Recommended! You won't regret it.

dont forget to vote yes/no whether this helped or not ^_^

so rarely do we see a sequel so true to the original yet better in every way. Skate 2 takes the basic mechanics of the original and creates what is possibly the best skateboarding game ever, but to be fair to the times, the early years of Tony Hawk's Pro Skater are legendary.

Graphically theres little to complain about, great character models, great lighting effects, and generally great use of textures, aside from most foliage and some lackluster water effects everything looks solid. the bruising/body damage from bails is nicely implemented as well.

the game controls just like the original with that fantastic analog control. if you havent played it, the let stick controls the skater, and the right trick controls the board for ollies, manuals, flip tricks, ect. similar to the ideas behind NHL 08/09 and Fight Night Round 3. and dont forget the replay editor. gameplay can be paused at any time to edit your replays. you can change camera angles/styles and the speed at which each clip in the video plays. any of your replays can be uploaded for all to see.

Create a Spot you can now, at any time, pause gameplay and create a box to designate the trick area, set the score on given ramp/gap/rail/ect, and upload it for all to see and compete for the high score.

challenges/activities abound from tournaments and races to individual spot contests, competing for the best trick. they even added online for this one, all the styles of activities available in career can be chosen for online competition, as well as online freeskate with your friends. unfortunately all online modes are limited to certain areas, so you can forget traversing the whole city with your friends GTA IV style. a small complaint. actually my only real complaint about the whole game.

the soundtrack is great too, varying from oldschool rap to modern rap, classic rock to modern metal.

on top of all that Skate 2 features one of the most advanced physics engines in any game except maybe GTA IV (why didnt that have a replay editor?!) every bail is unique to the situation. everything moves as it should whether you're nailing a grab over a staircase or slamming into a knee high steel gate.

all in all its slated to be one of the best sports games of 2009, right up there with Fight Night Round 4 in terms of respective quality. it could be one of the best games all year period.

I'm going to compare this game a good bit to Stoked a snowboarding game. The reason for this comparison is that they both came out at nearly the same time, they both have received similar reviews and scores, and they both use similar control schemes. Lastly, there are some things in common between snowboarding and skateboarding.

I purchased Stoked and ultimately Skate 2 because I was looking for something different. I was tired of driving games, shooting games, and there were no good RPG's on the horizon. I needed a change.

I bought Stoked because it was $10 cheaper. Bad mistake. I rented Skate 2, and ended up trading in Stoked (and a few other games) to purchase Skate 2.

The controls between both games are similar. Left stick "steers," right stick controls jumps and pivots and tricks. Of course in Skate you can push yourself around, in Stoked well, you're just sliding down a mountain.

Skate 2 wins the comparo for a bunch of reasons. San Vanelona is a living town with pedestrians, traffic, security, and other skateboarders. Stoked takes place on a relatively-lifeless mountain, with some stationary onlookers at various "trick spots." Skate 2 is a "sandbox" oriented, whereas Stoked though certainly not linear, still only lets you slide down the mountain, restart, and slide down the mountain again. If you miss a trick in Skate, you simply push yourself (or walk a welcomed addition to the game no matter how awkward the controls) back up the hill and try again. You can even set a "waypoint" at the start of a hill, railing, obstacle, etc and with the press of two buttons, return to the waypoint to try again. If you miss a trick in Stoked, you have to restart at the top of the hill, FIND the area you were in, and try again.

The control schemes seem a little easier in Skate at least until you scan through the trick guide. Stoked is all about holding a button and moving the right stick in a certain direction. It basically requires memorizing a lot of button combos, or pausing frequently to check the instruction book. Skate 2 relies on a similar structure, but most of your stunts are done by moving the right stick in a specific pattern. The good news is that you'll often do A trick. It may not be what you WANTED to do, but you'll get points at least. I have not yet run into challenges were a very specific trick was required, though I have read that this may occur later. Skate 2 seems a bit easier to play as you can "fudge" your way through the challenges a bit easier, being creative as opposed to just checking off a list of required stunts.

As someone who is entirely new to the Skate series, and skateboarding games in general, I found Skate 2 very easy to get started in and enjoy. Moving around is very easy and intuitive. Learning the basics like ollies and grinds was very easy, and let me get a decent way into the game before I had to broaden my horizons. I also like how advancing through the game opens up "contacts" which allow you to do things like draining pools, removing "traps" that inhibit skating, and even requesting a little "muscle" to help with security. The various missions and "spot" challenges can be pretty fun, and though often times they require multiple attempts to succeed, somehow it never becomes very frustrating. I'm not a big fan of doing things over and over again, but maybe because it all happens pretty quickly, you can run the same challenge many times in a single minute especially with the "waypoint" system mentioned above. I cannot tell you how easy that makes Skate 2 to play.

As fun as the challenges and missions and side-jobs can be, simply zipping around San Van is a lot of fun in itself. It's really a welcome changed in a sandbox game to be able to entertain yourself without shooting people or worrying about health or a "wanted level." Many times I'll find a railing that I want to practice grinding on, or a ramp that I want to practice jumping from. Drained swimming pools are incredible fun for flipping, grabbing ledges, grinding, etc. Skate 2 also gives you an awesome feel for your height, your speed, and your frequent-impending doom when you realize halfway to the ground that "this one isn't going to go so well..." But even the wrecks pay off though with the "Thrasher Hall of Meat," which adds a hilarious and even profitable twist onto bone-snapping crashes and accidents. Wiping out in Skate 2 makes me laugh over and over again. Never before has failure been so much fun.

Skate 2 is a great game that encourages creativity and is packed with lots of different things to do. It's entry-level access is great for new players and old fans alike. The controls could be a little tighter, the walking technique could be greatly improved, but most of the nuisances become pretty insignificant when you catch that air and nail the landing.

Honest reviews on Skate 2: Platinum Hits Edition

I love this game, the story offers many paths from doing danny way 100 foot gaps to draining pools and uncapping rails. I love the graphics and physics of this game, also the swing stick trick ability is wonderful. The online modes whether they're ranked or freeskate offer flexibility and fun to anyone who enjoys pulling backflips and quad-heelflips. I bought this game knowing nothing about the skate series, and it will never leave my game room, absolutely amazing game, 5/5.

The first SKATE never really stuck with me I got 1/2 way through and found that the environment and mechanics got stale. Now it might be that I never truly got the hang of the controls the first time around (partially true), whatever the case I just didn't find myself coming back time and again as I expected. The new SKATE game feels entirely the opposite, the layout of SV is an addictive blast, the easier to use PLACE a MARKER feature is an essential for the forgiving restart event system that has you trying every challenge one more time until you check it off. The controls are finely tuned and really the heart of the game, truck adjustments really make a difference if you are turning too loosely or vice versa. And the flick system opens up simply and then just keeps getting better as you perfect the usual set of fliptricks, grabs etc.. and really feels good as things like manuals, footplants, hippy jumps, caveman drops, skitching fall into place naturally within the control system. Most satisfying of all is the double handed tuck down steep runs. The thrasher hall of meat is back and wrecks are a twisted affair as you can send your skater flailing on purpose into all sorts of gory mayhem. The challenges feel like older skating titles at times but offer the right amount of reward and challenge level for the most part as well as a nice amount of variety, street races etc. The details are all top notch with a soundtrack that almost feels played rather than old school, SFX and voice over work are above average though. I am not a big fan of the SECURITY GUARDS that police parts of the game and the collision system with them can be buggy, (it is the only place I have had the game freeze on me).The character builder also really makes a pretty goofy looking face no matter what you do. But with controls like this who cares, just kicking around this game for awhile can be an ultra addictive experience This one is so good I wish I could try the online offerings out but as it is the single player is more than worth it.

Over 4600 cards! The gameplay and graphics are awesome. There is over 400 hours of gameplay in this game! It basically never ends! The music and animations are also great. It has just about every card imaginable in it. Be sure to pick this up, this is easily the swan song YGO game of the PSP.

This game is a lot of fun. With its thousands of cards and numerous computer players this game allows for very complex and interesting card-play. There are a few bugs. For one it sometimes takes the computer player an unusually long time to make a move. I have literally seen it go two minutes only to end its turn without doing anything. The second bug is that sometimes a secondary effect won't activate. I have seen this with two cards. The first was Scrap Iron Scarecrow where after it activated it went to the graveyard instead of turning back face down. The second was with Stardust Dragon where I had activated its effect but at the end of the turn it didn't give me the option to special summon it back from the graveyard.

I think tag force is brilliant It dose surprise me that you cant use monster reborn but its in the game. Otherwise the graphics are dead on and the game play is something to behold. I like how the first code that I put in worked right away. Though I did have to down load from the net in order to get the latest installment. So thumbs up for tag battle and the tournament play. Over all a great game.

Honest reviews on Yu-Gi-Oh! 5D's Tag Force 5 - Sony PSP

Heres my breakdown of Yu-Gi-Oh! Tag Force 5:

Pros:

Cards, Cards, and more Cards!!!!

This game definitely doesn't slouch on the cards. The list ranges from Yu-Gi-Oh!'s roots (think Dark Magicians and Blue Eyes White Dragons) to the very new cards from the 5D's anime as well. My favorite part is that it features several anime exclusive cards. For example, the Machine Emperor cards are made up of 5 pieces like in the anime rather than the one card they are in real life. The game also features the Dark Synchros and Dark Tuners that the Dark Signers used in the 5D's anime. This game actually makes me question buying cards anymore since there are sooo many in the game. Bottom line is that you can build almost any kind of deck you want...which leads me to my next point...

Deck Building System

I thought the Deck Edit system was really well done. It allows you to easily search for cards as well as support cards for the archtype you're building for. Finding cards for the deck you want is pretty easy as well. The game makes finding cards incredibly easy, booster packs are cheap and characters will give you free cards packs after you beat their story. Like I said before, almost any kind of deck is possible in this game.

Monster 3D cut-scenes:

For certain monsters, when they're summoned and when they attack, a neat little cut scene pops up and shows them in all their glory. It gives you a lot of satisfaction because some of them are difficult to summon (ex. Shooting Star Dragon, Earthbound Immortals, Machine Emperors)

Duel Interface:

It's easy to use and the game has a tutorial mode in case there is any confusion.

Cons:

Story Mode:

Ugh, where do I start. It took me awhile to figure out how to even get the story mode running. Basically, you wander around New Domino City, find a character you want to team up with. Once you've teamed up with them, you basically have to make them like you by playing minigames or giving them items. Once they like you enough (a little heart meter turns red) you can do a story mission with them (each character has 4 missions). I can't really think of a better way to make the story mode works, but this way is incredibly tedious. Filling the heart meter takes an obscenely long and thats not even the worst...

Computer AI in Tag Duels:

Every mission in the story mode revolves around tag dueling. Which ever character you teamed up with is your partner for the duel. However, no matter how good of a duelist you have (ex. Yusei, Jack Atlas, or Vizor) they are useless. Synching up decks isn't even enough to get these guys to work. Most of the time your partner will impede your strategy. This one time I was playing Lazar's story, I was teamed up with him and he could have attacked easily to win the game with the Shooting Star Dragon that I had just labored to summon. The opponent had no monsters or spells or traps...and Lazar activates a card called Gravity Bind...However, the AI is deadly when they play against you. This makes tag duels feel more like a 2 on 1.

Destiny Draw:

Honestly, when you're losing a duel badly, you can't just say "I get a Destiny Draw so that means I draw the perfect card i need for this situation and turn the entire duel around" I cannot tell you how many times that I am a turn away from beating my AI opponent but then the game gives them a destiny draw which ends up screwing you over...and then they win. You can get Destiny Draws yourself...but I could do without the system in general because it robs people of wins based on some BS little game mechanic.

Glitches:

Cards like Call of the haunted and Limit Reverse stick around even after the monster they brough back is destroyed. Often the computer will destroy these cards instead of your much more dangerous face downs...doesn't make sense to me.

Score: 4/5

It's a great game. I just being able to pick up my PSP and play against all different kinds of decks and even my favorite characters from the show. This game is a must for any Yu-Gi-Oh! player, it's very helpful for testing out new strategies. I do admit I put a lot of cons down but these flaws are pretty easy to look past but I will warn you...they can be frustrating.

I know Tag Force 6 has recently come out and I recommend it to everyone. If it's anything like Tag Force 5, you'll be in for a treat. Not to mention, it features even more cards.

First things first -

If you haven't played the first Assassin's Creed and subsequent releases (or at LEAST starting with II, and going forward) go no further. Do yourself a service and start with II as a bare minimum and work yourself forward to this, the 3rd in the Ezio Auditore trilogy. Otherwise, you'll be completely lost.

For those of you familiar with the story, you're going to find Ezio Auditore in his twilight years on a quest to find Altair's legendary, yet quite well-protected, library. The Templars have caught wind of it and Ezio is also trying to find his way in to thwart their attempts at worldwide control. This is hardly a spoiler as you're quickly brought into this within minutes of beginning to play Ezio no further spoilers here.

From the standpoint of playing all of the previous Assassin's Creed entries, how does this one fare? Well, I finally played it tonight and I must say that it is really quite remarkable. There's a major change in the way that combat is handled you select a primary and then a secondary weapon so that you can enter a sword fight and then throw knives at will, for example (no longer do you have to constantly "weapon wheel" between sword and throwing knives constantly). Graphic engine has been updated and it's quite smooth; I don't find it stuttering nearly as often as it used to. Even the story itself has been given a facelift now there's more of a cohesive, unified story rather than a series of seemingly disjointed events culminating in your goal in the first place of killing "x" person because he did "y". "Eagle vision" also has some significant improvements, some subtle and some not. For example, in addition to identifying enemies, you'll actually see faint red lines indicating a guard's patrol route. This enhances the formulation of tactics. In other cases, where smoke bombs are even more effective at obscuring your enemies' ability to attack you, "eagle vision" will actually allow you to pierce the cloud and attack your enemies at will. In addition, you will be collecting materials to craft a variety of different bombs (lethal and non-lethal). The animations of Ezio kill moves are superb and some of his abilities show that Ezio, in his twilight years, is deadlier than ever. The music, as always, is very well-done and the voice acting is even better than usual. The beginning of the game reminds me of Matrix Revolutions, but I do mean this in a good way.

The environments are breathtakingly beautiful. The game has departed from Italy and finds itself in Constantinople, once the true crossroads of the world between Europe and Asia when the United States was still a mere 264 years away from declaring its own independence. Ezio finds himself with new equipment (the hook blade is fun opening a variety of attacks as well as an ability to zip line around your environment fantastic!), friends (including a romantic interest), and actually enters into the conflict politically it's no longer a mere Templar/Assassin conflict. There are layers to appreciate here as Ezio makes an ally and as I am starting to delve into it, I truly appreciate what Ubisoft has created here.

If there is one thing that I have to complain about, it's the mode where you have to defend your own Assassin's Keeps in addition to creating them for those of you familiar with Brotherhood. It becomes a "tower defense" game at this point...and I don't mean that in a flattering way. It's one thing that Ubisoft could have omitted (or seriously improved upon) without impacting the story whatsoever. It comes off as a silly gimmick that didn't appear to have been given a significant amount of thought in terms of how it flows with the rest of the interlocking parts. This is an oprhan 301st piece in a 300-piece puzzle; it doesn't fit and, quite honestly, you don't really need it to complete the experience.

I haven't had a chance to explore multiplayer too much, but what I've seen so far seems to indicate that Ubisoft has taken the best parts of Brotherhood and have added both modes and additional customization not seen before. I'm more into the story then the multiplayer, but Revelations has shown me enough to convince me to give it a try...later. Assassin's Creed is still, first and foremost, about continuing a quite fascinating story. And the final chapter to the overall story arc (with Ezio's presumably ending here, if rumors are believed) is to come in yet a single year, although how Ubisoft plans to bring this epic to a conclusion in the absence of such a strong character like Ezio has my curiosity piqued.

Despite the fault of "tower defense", everything else is so vastly improved that I still have to give it a solid 4.75 stars (5 stars on the Amazon scale don't think it deserves a 4). Enough said get it and enjoy!

I received the Assassin's Creed Revelations Signature Edition, it comes with a bunch of extras (including the original Assassin's Creed) but I haven't checked those out yet.

I've only been playing for a few hours and without spoiling any of it, I think Ubisoft has done a fine job producing another installment of the Assassin's Creed series. The graphics are great, the story line is engaging and leaves you wondering "where is the apple?" I'm very pleased with the improvements made in combat scenarios and weaponry (which was already pretty good to start with). However, with all these additions it means the controls have changed slightly, but I haven't found it to be too much of a nuisance or hassle as the quick introductory tutorials were helpful.

Assassin's Creed Revelations in my opinion is a solid 4 out of 5 stars, the only thing holding it back from that extra star is that it still feels a bit recycled from previous AC games. However, I would still recommend this game to a friend and especially someone who already enjoys the Assassin's Creed game series.

UPDATE:

It's somewhat difficult to lower Ezio's infamy because of a lack of heralds to bribe and officials to assassinate (I haven't seen any wanted posters). Because of this I don't really care for Ezio's infamy going up when I renovate a shop. It doesn't bother me as much when the infamy goes up because I've recruited another assassin or taken a Templar den, as these are more infrequent than renovations. But since the Templar's don't attack unless Ezio's infamy is extremely high, this is only a small nuisance so far.

The game is significantly more interactive than its predecessors, which I think makes it even more engaging than I initially thought. The weaponry is exceptional, Ubisoft really went above and beyond with crafting very unique and innovative weaponry (and combat techniques) which weren't seen in previous games. I also really enjoy how polished and fluid Ezio's movements are during free running and combat.

PROS

Great graphics

Engaging story line

Improved combat and weaponry

More developed and interactive game play than its predecessors

CONS

Some of the story line feels a bit recycled from previous AC's

Controls have changed slightly

Infamy increases when renovating shops, as well as recruiting assassins and taking over a Templar den; lack heralds, officials and NO wanted posters

Visuals, Gameplay, and Story what more can you ask of a game?

After I sat out the previous Assassin's Creed games, I was not so sure if it would be a good idea to start playing from the middle of the series. Well after about 9 straight game playing hours, I can safely say that tomorrow is shot, and I have had a blast with this game!

What works well?

1. The visuals are gorgeous -

Whether it is Ezio's motion-cap as he climbs up and down walls; or the smooth cinematic swordplay; or the sights and sounds of medieval Constantinople; or the haunting melodic soundtrack; this feels so much more than just a game. The reflection from the pool of water in the Yerebatan Cistern is to be experienced. The graphics are beyond awesome!

2. Gameplay is excellent

This is a fast paced action game, with deep elements of strategy. This definitely isn't a button masher, as it is important to maintain stealth through many missions.

Voice acting is wonderful with authentic-sounding Italian accents (at least to my ears). The characters are also well fleshed out and you certainly meet some intriguing ones in your travels, including Yusuf Tazim who teaches Ezio bomb crafting and the use of the hook blade.

In addition, the gameplay is extremely varied with many mini-games such as a Benhur style chariot race and a tower defense sequence where you must protect your den from waves of incoming enemy troops.

There's also an eagle vision mode which works much like Detective mode in Arkham Asylum, and helps identify your foes and discover clues in the environment (mostly treasure).

3. Absorbing story

Once I started, I literally could not stop. Being new to this series, I probably should have begun by playing the first few games. Not being familiar with Desmond, Altair, and Ezio, it was much harder to get invested in their problems. Likewise, not knowing what the Animus is, can really put a crimp in your enjoyment. Despite that I still managed to enjoy the game.

What doesn't work well?

The climbing mechanics are nowhere as forgiving as you would encounter in games like Infamous or Uncharted. Every wrong move you make is penalized with a long slow drop, often to your death.

In addition, the crowds keep getting in your way and while it is realistic, crowd behavior can be annoying when they constantly complain as you try to get through them.

Finally, for those new to the franchise, I would note that the combat system is quite complex. In addition to the standard Primary and Secondary Attack buttons, there are moves to disarm your opponent (R1+square); to perform a hook and throw combination (R1 + tap O); to throw a heavy weapon (Hold Square and release); etc. There's even a X to kick the opponent to throw off his defense. All in all this was a bit too complex for me, personally so I tended to stay within a smaller subset of the combos.

Did I enjoy this game? Without a doubt yes. This is motion-cap based gaming at its best you can almost swear that it is a human rather than a CG generated image at times.

Definitely a winner from Ubisoft!

Happy Playing!

Honest reviews on Assassin's Creed Revelations

The day before release, I decided to take a peek at the reviews for Assassin's Creed: Revelations, just to get a better idea of what I was getting myself into. I was somewhat disappointed with that I had found. Reviewers made the game feel glitchy, incomplete, and rushed. At midnight that same day, I was eager to get my hands on the game to see just what everybody was complaining about.

What I found was a game with an interesting, engaging story coupled with the fun gameplay from past iterations. Needless to say I breathed a sigh of relief.

My completion time for the game was somewhere around 10 hours (which was roughly the same as Brotherhood) over the course of two day. One might think that completing the main story in a game would leave a player feeling cheated, but it was exactly the opposite. Everything having to do with the story was so interesting that I just couldn't wait to zipline over to the next exclamation point to see what happened next. I don't want to do into any spoilers, but know that the story is much richer than Brotherhood's, and more filling than the first two games as well.

It wasn't the story alone that kept me playing, it was the gameplay.

The hookblade is a fantastic addition to Ezio's arsenal. He can vault over guards, perform zipline assassinations, collapse scaffoldings with it, execute a wide variety of combat moves, as well as catch himself on a building while free running.

One point I saw reviewers bring up was their total and complete hatred for Den Defense. I'm not sure how you can develop such a serious dislike for it though, since if you keep your Templar Awareness in check, you hardly have to deal with it at all! In my entire time playing, I have only done it one time outside of the tutorial. Just bribe heralds and kill the witnesses and you'll be fine. It really isn't that bad though to be honest. It just takes some getting used to.

Altair's missions were a bit longer than the Christina missions from Brotherhood. I don't want to spoil the actual missions, but despite being short they were an absolute delight to experience.

Desmond's time in the game consists of five first person puzzles detailing his time before his capture by Abstergo. You simply walk forward, using simple block pieces to create a platform in front of you, and listen to Desmond remember his past. It really is quite interesting and while completely optional, provides insight into the character we know very little about.

Well, that's it! I hope you guys don't pass up on this incredible experience! It really was a fantastic game, from beginning to end.

Ezio is getting old, and so is AC. As usual, the graphics and cut scenes are pretty good, the story is decent, and the mechanics have improved. The problem is that is the exact same game as AC, AC II, AC Brotherhood. Minor tweaks to the gameplay and new cities to explore weren't enough for me to really enjoy it this time around.

If this is the first time you have played an Assassin's Creed game, you will love it. It's great (as long as you don't mind missing a lot of back story). If you've played the previous games, you've played this one.

The multiplayer component is fresh and fun, but doesn't have a ton of replay value.

Customer review from the Amazon Vine Program This makes my 5TH set of gaming headphones. Well 6 if you count a 25 year old Radio Shack pair..... After I retired, I became an old guy who spends sometimes 12-18 hours a day gaming. Why so much? I became disabled and it takes my mind of pain to some degree. I also find all that just a GREAT excuse to "play". How do these stack up to all my other headsets?

Well, for the most part I use my ASTRO Gaming A40 set. Now while it is "wired" it does have wires. Confused? Well so was I at first. To THIS headset. I have sets from the cheap & crappy to the best. This set falls right square in the middle. The ear cups are average in their comfort (to MY head anyway), the sound is average. I find the 3D effect just that. An EFFECT. Kind of cheesy to me after having HONEST surround sound for gaming....I hear no honest directional capability when listening for WHERE an enemy is while sneaking up on me. What I do hear is that it makes the sound (whatever it may be) just a bit more able to notice and at least is sort of an "alert" to pay more attention. But then, by the time it got my attention, I am dead so not much use unless you are into suicide :-)

The GOOD for me are:

1-Connects to any & all gaming platforms you may use. I have the PS3, PS Vita, XBOX and a gaming computer plus 2 laptops. You can get this to work on it all. This is a HUGE advantage.

2-Separate control for game and microphone.

3-ALL needed cables and connectors are INCLUDED. No running to some store to make it work!

4-Mic is removable

The BAD for me:

1-Individual setups and be a bit confusing UNTIL you get familiar when switching between platforms

2-14 feet of wire is nice, but for my very LARGE Big screen LCD, I NEED 18-22 feet (But that may not be the norm for most folks?)

3-Cost is a little high for AVERAGE sound, but then again you DO get all the needed wires & connections.

Who should buy this? Someone who needs one single headset for EVERYTHING you game on. Sometimes you just don't need the very best sounding, the absolute most comfy headset, or a completely different headset for EACH platform you game on. This may just be average in ALL areas, but this one single item will let you play on EVERYTHING and that is actually pretty huge when you think about it. You can't expect miracles, but you won't have to go buy 3 different headsets either!

Let me start by saying Ive never used any other headset besides the stock xbox 360 one.

I've been using this for a few weeks now and I must say, I'm not disappointed! It was easy to set up and sounds great. The 3D sound amplifies the effects (which is great for war games like COD and BF)

Pros.

Price!! No better headset for the price out there.

Sturdy

Separate volume controls for game sound and mic

Comfortable (and I wear a 7 5/8 hat)

Can be used for multi platforms

Block out most sound (some might see this as a con)

Cons.

Cord length

If your looking for a great gaming headset and don't want to spend $100, look no further!! I would recommend these to anyone

Like the title says this head set is Simply Amazing!!!

I read almost all the reviews for this head set and the thing I never really figured out was if the sound quality was similar to the Turtle Beach headsets or not. When I say this I mean that if I were to be able to tell if someone was walking up from my backside on my left. The answer is YES! I was playing MW3 and I could tell there was grenades being thrown and detonating to my right and then heard someone coming from to my left, and not just to my left but from the front left of me. So if you were hesitant to buy this because you didn't know if the sound quality is as good as Turtle Beachs, then go a head and buy it.

The 3-D effect is just amazing, at first I played MW3 with it off to test out the sound quality, I could easily predict where everyone was by their footsteps, but when I turned on the 3-d effect I could feel the grenade explode near me, I could hear the fire crackling and the flies buzzing. When turning on 3D i was afraid if I would be able to hear my teammates clearly because the game was so loud, but that wasn't a problem at all I could hear them clearly and the same goes for them as they could hear me clearly as well.

My problems are that the wire might be a little too short, if you have a home theater then you need will need to buy an extension chord. I sit 10 ft from my TV and xbox and the chord is hanging off the ground for a good twothree inches, but I don't really mind that...

Compared to the TBs X12s they, US ARMY headset, is most definetly heavier but you know what that just tells me this head set is sturdier... If you are wondering whether to buy this head set or the X12s then let me tell you, I wouldn't trade this headset in for an x12, because one the 3-d is so amazing, its universial, and the the drivers 1 40mm and 2 15mm drivers in each ear for the US army headset vs the X12s' 50 mm.

This is an easier decision for me.

So the only con for me is really the chord's size.

Honest reviews on U.S. Army Universal Gaming Headset With 3D Effect for PS3/XBOX/PC

Customer review from the Amazon Vine Program I got this headset just in time for Diablo 3... and have enjoyed it thoroughly. I just plug the green (earphones) and red (mic) jacks into the corresponding ports on the front of my computer, and I'm good to go.

SOUND QUALITY: these headphones sound great. My old headphones, Sennheiser HD 202 Dynamic Headphones (Old Version), worked great and had good quality, but I think these headphones are actually pump out audio that's just a little bit fuller.

NOISE REDUCTION: these actually don't work as well as my old headphones -I think because of the way my ears fit into the headset, I can still hear external sounds (like roommate watching TV) a little bit. Noise reduction isn't one of the advertised features on the listing page, so I guess this is no surprise.

MICROPHONE: my buddies online have no complaints re: my voice quality over the mic. I've used this for PC gaming chat and for Google Voice. Works fine. Mute switch is pretty standard.

BUILD QUALITY / AESTHETICS: bulky, solid, dorky-but-cool. These are big, heavy headphones and really do look/feel like something you'd be wearing in an old helicopter cockpit. The flexible mic is nice, and the headset has plenty of cable & head size adjustability to fit almost anyone and work with any room / computer / console setup.

OVERALL: I'd give these five stars, but it's sort of annoying that a headset this solid & bulky doesn't completely seal out external noises. My $20 pair of years-old Sennheiser headphones is superior to these in that regard... but aside from this rather minor annoyance (usually gamers aren't sitting in really noisy environments anyway), this is a great headset for console or PC gaming. I'd say better for PC, as many consoles now have wireless controllers / headsets that are more functional given the nature of console gaming.

I got this for my son for Christmas 2012 and it has already stopped working. He really liked it until it stopped.

Everything works except he cannot talk to anyone. Have tried all settings/dials to no avail.

Emails 3 times. Got a response to first email wanting the order confirmation. Sent it ( 2 email) . Resent for 3 email ( over a week later).

Called the 1-888 number for some assistance, the person there says there is no phone customer support. Send an email. I said I did. He said to send one again. When I asked if I had to send emails for the next 20 years he said that they only offer email support so yes.

What a company.

Really enjoy this game!! If you like driving mind blowing fast and then crashing into objects and other cars, and of course watching them blow-up, you won't do much better than this game.

Make sure you've got a beefy machine to run this, especially a good video card. It's the only way to do this game justice.

Had to knock off one star due to the music. A little too hard core RAP Crap for my liking. Could have thrown in something for the 40+ driving fans who know a good driving game and what good music is. Have fun!!

This game is lots of stupid "bash the other guy with you car" fun. There are several fun race modes including, but no limited to, racing (in three classes: derby (using junker cars), race (using smooth racers), and street race (using the famous cool looking sedans and coupes everybody knows), and demolition derby (bashing good fun!). The graphics are pretty good (not incredible) and run smoothly on my modest rig (2.4GHz core 2 duo, WinXP, 2GB RAM, 2ms monitor, nVidia 8800GTX video, and SB LIVE! 24bit sound).

Some game modes are smashing fun that will make you laugh out loud. Like the driver throw. It's tremendous fun. To play online you need to register a LIVE account and an xBox account (exactly as in Kane & Lynch: Dead Men).

One tiny flaw of the same (in my opinion) is the music. They definitely dropped the ball here. The "heavy" metal is not heavy at all and you best turn it off completely and enjoy your own WMP in the background. People who played NFS:U2 (remember the soundtrack?) will understand me.

Overall the game is pretty fun and probably worth buying.

My family loves this game. We all play together, taking turns driving. The game is simply VERY fun. It may not be the best sim, the hottest cars, the most glamorous settings etc but all together, the sence of humor, action, and mood make it one of the best games I have ever played. I use a logitech g25, and a 101 inch projection screen and this really makes the fast paced action come alive. Runs great in Win 7, and controllers work perfectly. I highy recomend it. I wish they would make a deathtrack like version with guns etc. I think they would do a good job.

Honest reviews on Flatout: Ultimate Carnage

You'd never think of driving your car into another car in real life, but in this game, you get _points_ for doing that. And nitro. Bonus! So, you get used to looking for other cars which are vulnerable to a big hit, and you go after them. It's quite satisfying to "blast out" another driver (knock him/her through their windshield). And the more damage you do in the hit, the more points and nitro you get.

Sounds violent, but this is about escape. I have a lot of stress in my life right now, and it's a great way to blow off some steam.

Game Modes: Flatout Mode and Carnage Mode.

Flatout Mode: This is a sequence of increasingly difficult races. Each set of races comprises a "cup". You must win or place highly in multiple races to win the cup and move on. You must win 3rd or better (Bronze) to advance. Each cup you win opens a bonus race--either a Carnage Race (points for winning, passing checkpoints, and damage to other cars), a Demolition Derby (usually a deathmatch--survive as long as you can, and get bonus points for the damage you cause), or Time Trial (reach a time goal on a track--no nitro). When you've passed enough cup levels, you get some big bonus cash and unlock cars. There are three Flatout levels: Derby, Race, and Street. There's also a bonus level which uses all cars. Each level uses faster cars and gets increasingly harder. Nice thing: you don't have to finish a given level to start the next level (e.g., you don't have to finish Derby 100% to start Race, etc.).

You have to manage your cash in Flatout Mode to get the best car for your driving style and trick it out to be the fastest and strongest it can be. The mid-level bonus cash coincides with unlocked cars, so it's a nice time to upgrade. You might have to buy a car in order to figure out if it's right for you. It's a bummer that you only get 50% back from the investment if you decide to sell, but at least you can sell it if you need to. Keep in mind that you can do cups and bonus events as many times as you wish in order to build up cash.

Carnage Mode: This is more of an arcade mode. You might be familiar with "get this many points and unlock this next event" kinds of games, and this is one of those. You start out with a Carnage Race, a Stunt (using the driver as the projectile!), a Demolition Derby (do as much damage as you can with four lives), and a Beat the Bomb run (go as far as you can and pass as many checkpoints as you can before your car explodes). For each event, you get points. At certain point levels, you open up new events. You then do those, get more points, open other events, etc. This is a nice mode to be in if you only have a few minutes to play (which frequently happens in my house). There are probably (I'm guessing) about 40 or so events.

In Carnage Mode, the cars for each event are chosen for you, and so you get a lot of variety. This can be a good thing, but it also means that for each event, you have to learn the quirks of the particular car. They all drive differently.

The stunts are really fun and interesting. Many are quite hard, and require some practice to get right. The carnage races are fun, the Beat the Bomb runs are my least favorite (I just do them for the points), and the Demo Derbies are great fun.

Stunts are done in a stadium atmosphere with some very European-sounding, incomprehensible blather coming from a PA announcer. Meh.

The Demo Derbies at the end get quite hard--the last one is with the smallest, weakest Derby car, which makes scoring points way hard.

In addition to the Flatout and Carnage modes, there's also a Single Event mode in which you can pick any event to do.

I hate the music and I have it turned off.

All in all, a fantastic game that cost me about six clams. I plan to continue playing this one for a long while.

I just got this, and I have to say the price is worth it. I'd expected Flatout Ultimate Carnage might be a pretty tired rehash, given that it's up against the likes of Gran Turismo, Grid, Need for Speed, Sega Rally Revo and especially Burnout.

Thankfully, Flatout seems to have pulled the best features of its competitors together in a game that's not very sophisticated, but is a lot of fun. Here you have the environmental physics of Sega Rally Revo and Dirt: standing water, mud, dust, and pavement all have an effect on your vehicle. You have the damage gradient of Need for Speed: Pro Street in that your car can lose bits and pieces of itself and get a bit shaky, but it'll still run all the way through the race. And finally, you have the crazy antics of Burnout: crash your car (or other players), smash into things, and you charge your boost meter. Wreck spectacularly to get achievements. Tap the "Reset" button and you plunk back down in the middle of the road, in the middle of the action.

As if that isn't enough, like its cousins in the genre, Flatout lets you keep a garage of many cars, customizing each to your liking with specific upgrades. Since the physics is an integral part of the enviroment, you feel the difference with each vehicle and each change you make to it. You go through a career mode with multiple race types and varying tracks. Some tracks will repeat themselves across tiers, but the fact that you have a different goal (e.g., race versus derby mode) makes it never a dull moment.

The only real drawback to Flatout Ultimate Carnage is that it is easy. I'm no pro, but I quickly climbed the ladder. Many places in the road are designed to hand you stuff to smash into so you charge your boost meter, most AI drivers aren't too smart, and I often found myself with a nice healthy addition to my boost meter if I had to reset the vehicle: use it immediately and you're back up to speed within seconds.

One other drawback for PC users is that this game really doesn't play well with a keyboard. It's awkward, and without bothering to map the keys to some custom configuration, I found it much easier to just go ahead and use the XBox 360 Controller like the manual tells you to. You'll find the biggest advantage in the gas pedal: on the keyboard it's either full throttle or coasting when you tap the accelerator, but on the XBox 360 Controller, the trigger understands the difference when you just give it a squeeze: it picks up on the nuances you need to handle your car through the curves.

For many of you who enjoy the Megaten series, you may already be well aware of this series. Two years ago, Persona 3 broke onto the PS2, creating an influx of newcomers and old school gamers alike. It provided a unique battle system, an intriguing dark story, a plethora amount of characters, and overall a great experience. Persona 4 is a standalone game, bringing many of the features, settings, and atmosphere from P3.

You are a silent protagonist who transfers into a rural area. Soon enough, you find something mysterious and dangerous. On one rainy night, you look into a television. Voices begin to ring, the storm seems to enrage, and the television flickers on and off. Reaching into the t.v, you are sucked into a whole new dimension.

Interesting, is it not? You'll find many mysteries held within the storyline. Unlike the city life in P3, you're in a very small town named Inaba.

The battle system holds its true colors. Although this time around, there are some tweaks. In P3, you were unable to control your allies, as they were under the influence of the AI. All you could really do was give them certain commands. This time around though, you are able to control their every move. These actions include using items, attacking, and defending. The all-out-attack is still implemented and the battle mechanics overall are ALL the same.

For those who have played P3, Tartartus was a large dungeon with many different themes and atmospheres. Instead of that, the dungeons in this game are spread out. Giving a more variety in gameplay. Each dungeon is uniquely themed based on the storyline. One night, you may be going through a steamy spa, the next you may going through an abandoned mall.

Many of the things you find in P3 and, to an extent P2, are all found in Persona 4. If you love the Persona series or you are a newcomer, pick this up, it's well worth your money.

(Side Note: For those who pre-ordered this game, the art-book is quite large (100 pages) and provides a few major spoilers. It's highly recommended you wait to look at it later. Although, the presentation of the package is wonderful, giving both the artbook and soundtrack is awesome).

Pros

+Fast-paced action.

+A great, long story. Develops quite fast.

+Interesting concept. Different from many other RPGs.

+Amazing soundtrack and character voices. It won't disappoint.

+Different endings create a twist.

+Characters have a lot of depth.

+Eerie Atmosphere accompanied with Amazing Artstyle

Cons

-Long adventure may tire some people out.

-Town is somewhat small; not many places to explore.

Sometimes, being a good girlfriend means sitting on the couch and watching him play a game or playing a game together. I'm a moderate gamer, the new controls are generally more complicated than I'm willing to commit to. He is a hard core gamer. Some games are easier to watch than others, and some are easier to play. This review is not for the hard core gamer. This review if for the girlfriend (or boyfriend, who am I to judge?) that sits on the couch and watches.

Persona 4 is a great girlfriend game. We jokingly refer to it as "time to watch the anime". It's a single player game, so my involvement is limited to "don't say that...say this" or "I don't think that's the right answer...." The characters are interesting and the game is very story driven. With the exception of battle days, which don't happen all that often, the game is actually almost entirely story. I won't get into the plot, but if you're a fan of anime, you will enjoy this game. The game play is intuitive and you will rarely find yourself at a loss wondering what you should do next. The Persona fusing is the most complicated thing about the game, and I usually check the laundry or load the dishwasher when it comes to that point in the game. There are many games that I have sat through in defeated resignation, this is not the case with Persona 4. I'd find myself telling him that it's been 3 days, when are "we" going to play the game again! I hate to admit it, but I think I had a little crush on Rise! Great characters, great story, a great time overall.

Best Deals for Shin Megami Tensei: Persona 4 - PlayStation 2

For years I've been playing the same, mediocre RPGs. The names change, but nothing else seems to.

The Shin Megami Tensei series, on the other hand, has been making widely original content from the beginning and hasn't looked back. I sit here and look at Persona 4, and it's predecessor, Persona 3, and I'm just amazed at the amount of content thrown into these games. The games are so deep, I've found myself easily playing 90+ hours, just on the first playthrough. However, I'll be starting my next playthrough soon, because I hadn't even begun to scratch the surface through that 90 hour journey.

Social Links: One of the main things that makes the Persona series so spectacular is it's bizarre popularity system. You make friends. Have serious (sometimes intimate) relationships. Take tests. Become more popular if you get high scores on your tests. Get more friends. And these friendships are merely the tipping point of the game. These Social Links may seem to be pointless at first, even if they do provide some deep stories and hilarious commentary, however, once you cross over to the "other world", you'll find that these mean more to you than you think. Now, remember a few minutes back, when I said it took my 90 hours to finish 1 game? I didn't even get half of the Social Links. There are a freakin ton.

Because you're ranked high socially with so and so, you're able to form stronger and more meaningful Personas, which in turn, will be the main decider in any battle you face. If you have a terrible Persona when facing a random battle, you're dead for sure. And then, just to add a bit more to the mix, as if P4 doesn't want to be like it's father, P3 (which would be fine, if it were), it decides to ALSO make a difference in your own party members. Now, if you're incredibly close to Chie personally, she'll take deadly hits for you; knock out enemies you're struggling with; heal your status ailments. And not only that, but unlike P3, you now have control of all 4 party members. Which makes things a tad easier :)

And by now, if you're still reading this, it probably sounds like these social links are the biggest amount of story this game will get. That's pretty incorrect, actually. These social links are only tiny side plots in this beautiful adventure. The main plot / theme of this game goes beyond the Social Links, and really makes a social commentary on our own world and society today.

Then add the insanely odd style (the art, the colors, the backgrounds, the music) and it somehow manages to work perfectly with the path the own game goes down. Pure genius all around. AND it's on the ps2. It's 40 bucks and it's better than almost any game out so far on the new generation consoles. Come on RPG fans. You need to get into this underrated series already.

Honest reviews on Shin Megami Tensei: Persona 4 - PlayStation 2

Shin Megami Tensei: Persona 4 is not for the faint-of-heart emotionally. No game yet created will be able to tug out as much emotion from you as a full playing here does. Moreover it is, without a doubt, an RPG made for adults. This alone is a feat of epic accomplishment -when has a game (other SMT titles not included) ever used the 'M' rating for anything more than violence, language or sexuality? It today's society, it's hard for us to remember that "adult situations" come up in a lot of other ways, as well. Sure, there are some of those more common elements here, but... no, that's not what makes this "for adults".

In short, if you're willing to open your heart to it and dedicate some of your time to it, Persona 4 will ultimately become the most immersive and emotional RPG you've ever played. The setting, characters, gameplay and its incredible story all combine in perfect harmony to give the result.

For many years, I've wanted to be able to say that a new game was worthy of a highest-possible score (an effective 10/10 instead of just saying 5 starts of 5, which I list for 9 or 10/10 on my scale)... that something else was worthy... and I'm glad it's finally happened. Persona 3 and its FES epilogue version came ever-so-close, but Atlus has taken every aspect of P3 and enhanced it. To put it another way, any excuses anyone might have had to rain some scorn upon Persona 3 are now gone and you'll find yourself hard-pressed to come up with a single criticism of this game.

It's been a long week for me. With a first clear time of 59hr 36min and having received the game 7 days ago (at time of writing this review), it's not hard to realize I've done nothing but dive into Persona 4 at times other than essential life functions. That doesn't include much sleep, naturally. Not a minute of that time was a waste.

...

Alright, enough of the emotional ramblings. I suppose I should probably get to the actual content of the game itself.

The game scenario is pretty standard for an RPG, and if you wanted to simplify it into a single line, you could call it a Scooby Doo murder mystery case. The protagonist is a transfer student to a high school in a small town, events unfold, you gain friends and allies, and you work for a common cause. A serial killer seems to be on the loose, killing people in ways no one can seem to collect any evidence from-to say nothing for finding any suspects. It's not long before you realize that you have a unique but inexplicable ability to try to combat the killer, and the hunt it on. This quick summary is the end of any type of simplicity you could give to P4. ...There's one extra thing worth noting as you begin. The opening movie just can't stand up to what we saw in P3. After all, it'd be damn hard to make a more shocking opening than one where there's a simulation of someone shooting themselves in the head with a pistol.

The bare-bones start to the game lasts roughly 2 hours. It'll be another 2 before anything close to the normal flow of the game begins. It seems your town had some odd weather patterns and some urban myths to match, and the most famous being that watching a TV at midnight on a rainy night will show a picture of someone. Your soulmate, many say. This theory is quickly put to rest as people start to turn up dead. For American players, just a few murders hardly seem like something worthy of forming a such a game around. Just remember that this is Japan-ANY sort of violent crime is pretty much unheard of and a single act can put an entire city on edge. As the plot thickens, you can sense the rising tension amongst your school members and people around town.

Quite quickly, you'll see that the game is unapologetically Japanese. Name tags are used based on relation, school lessons match and general customs are followed. Incredibly off-the-wall is the introduction of a giant fuzzy teddy bear as a character, who'll be sticking around with you the remainder of the game. ...Yea, definitely Japanese. If you're willing to overlook the fluff and fuzz, you will see that he's quite a strong character and a valuable member toward your efforts. If anything you should consider the culture gap content to be a good thing, since it means that only minor adjustments (at most) were made in the translation and adaptation of a North American release.

Game flow is simple and easy to follow. You have school during days, your dungeon adventures occur in the afternoons, and your evenings are free to pursue your studies or do things with your relatives in the house. Days off and times you choose not to battle are when you'll form your "Social Links" and dive into the plethora of sub-stories, and your adventures in total will fall over a calendar year. One important difference between P3 and P4 is that each ally in your team has an individual social link, instead of just the girls. This is a lot more natural and will likely result in substantial guilt when you can't bring along certain members for certain missions... it's unlikely you'll really "hate" any of the characters since you really get to know them all at length.

When you start to have carte blanche over your time, the game seems to be able to sense what you're trying to do and scold you appropriately. After a few trips into battle the first week it was available, I received a phone call from the infamous and series-recurring Velvet Room reminding me that I should be looking to get to know people in my new town. For those not familiar, the Velvet Room is a special place only the protagonist can enter where you'll be able to manage your Personas. Though this is important, a trait of the Persona series is the need to advance your social links with friends so that your Personas can become substantially more powerful as you develop and create them. In all seriousness, a Persona that is a few levels above your main character will make difficult battles substantially easier in a lot of places and gives you access to more powerful abilities. In short, a Persona is merely a facade of yourself that allows you to reveal more of your soul, and thus changes what you can do in battle based on what you put forward.

Another awesome improvement over Persona 3 is the finer details of the plot. Not to say it wasn't complex, but there were times where you could be screaming at your TV wishing your characters would figure out something obvious. These moments are gone-actually, in almost every instance I came up with a new deduction about things it was addressed by others before my turn to speak. Shamefully, I must admit that there were times that my allies figured out some things before I did that resulted in a facepalm for me. This if far from a bad thing, of course! Just more proof of a very well-written story where it seems the authors thought through things and were able to anticipate what players were probably thinking at the time. The end result here is that plot twists are truly a surprise, yet are entirely logical once your team has a chance to sit around and discuss them.

The characters you'll find here combine to make the greatest cast ever assembled for an RPG. Each has quirks, a sense of humor, running jokes, particular matters of irritation, etc.. The cross-character chatting actually gets so intense sometimes that they make very offense remarks to others regarding very serious topics such as gender orientation. Not one of your crew feels at all "boring" and the development of all of them is quite enjoyable.

Always true to themselves, at some point everyone will probably annoy you temporarily and you'll grumble at the direction of your TV while glaring at them. Although (as you might expect in an RPG) all of the characters are dynamic in some way, their cores never change. My favorite instance of this was during a drinking game (yes, seriously) between friends where a particularly philosophical member has been forced into a situation where a lot of his-uh-"Innocence" was to be lost. On the spot and without hesitation, he spits out a haiku perfectly explaining what he has to do. It's not even an obvious thing and you have to REALIZE it's a haiku, though the fact he didn't spell it out for you makes it all the more hilarious. There are so many little moments like this and awesome lines from the whole crew that no cutscene is dull.

...

Regarding the combat system, it's simply flawless. Though a major beef with P3 was the inability to directly control your allies, you now can... though... there were but 3 instances where I actually took control of the entire party. I know it was 3 because I can remember reach time and why I changed! The ally and enemy AI alike are just phenomenal. Similar to the facepalms in the story, I found my group members performing actions to disable or knock down foes that I didn't realize or completely forgot about. It's never a bad thing when your friends help you, and not vice-versa. Combat speed is rather fast if you let characters act on their own, Persona summoning is very crisp (another improvement), and every pleasant quirk from P3 is still there with even more fun battle details added. You'll also be happy to know that you can actually find out what Persona abilities do by pressing Square on the Persona selection menu, since there's no way you'll remember what each strange spell name means on your own.

Of special note are the cross-member interactions during combat. This was already well-defined in Persona 3, but it's improved even further here and the banter between allies is almost continuous. Despite the limited number of lines they have, for some reason it never seems to get old.

Actually, developing your social links with your group members helps play into the changes to the battle system. Depending on how advanced it is, they're able to take a mortal blow for you that would have otherwise resulted in your death and a "Game Over". Better still, they're able to cure you from annoying ailments including the dreaded charm. Quite literally, someone will run up to you and slap you in the face to get your attention. Best of all, if you're willing to push through the entire story for one of your allies, they'll develop the ability to survive a single killing blow to them and this is very strategically important in boss battles. Players of Persona 3 in particular will enjoy this, since taking time to raise your allies basically crippled you in difficult fights.

Another little detail about dungeon improvements is that treasure chests will no longer spit out Yen. That was well and good of course, but also made no sense in P3. To counteract always being poor, the activities you use to increase your character statistics include part-time jobs that pay rather well. Your other primary source of income is the selling of innate materials dropped from defeated foes. Selling these off to a local shop unlocks new weapons and armor for you. Not remotely realistic, but as good of a system I've seen in a modern-era RPG nonetheless.

Oh, and it's been pretty clear from a lot of the other reviews around that you need to do a ridiculous amount of exp grind to really do well. I beg to differ. If you'd like an indication of how much "work" I did, I completed each dungeon twice... once for the storyline and another to defeat optional bosses. In a few cases I did short sorties to particular places to collect items requested by the townsfolk for quests. Do note that although the "fatigue" factor is gone from P3, you no longer recover full HP/SP after returning to the entrance.

...

Moving on to overall presentation of the game, you really can't ignore PS2 limitations anymore. Since the entire development process of Persona 4 has been after the PS3 was launched, it's unfortunate that the limited budget and resources of Atlus couldn't put this on the stronger system. Mind you, the graphics (in combat especially) are as good as you'll ever seen on the PS2, but hopping back to a game in HD will basically make your eyes bug out. Some kind of widescreen mode would have been awesome, but this is a very minor complaint and the lack of it doesn't subtract from the game in any way whatsoever.

The soundtrack is top-notch, as you'd expect from any SMT title. Each separate dungeon has its own background music, which mixes things up nicely while walking around. There are hours upon hours of voiceovers from a talented cast that anime buffs will be able to pick out a few "famous" voices from. Another intriguing thing present this time is "quazi-voiceovers", where the text of a line will appear and you'll only get a short outburst from the other character. This could be a clip of an emotional reaction, or the first few words of the phrase. To me, this shows that Atlus might have loved to have put a voiceover on everything, but could have been running out of disk space. One thing that they made a specific point of including for voiceovers, however, is the "final" cutscene with each social link that brings you up to the max rank. It feels like an extra bonus for your effort and really puts the emotion from everyone out on the table.

One thing I always love to talk about is details in games; it's often the little things that really make a scene stick with you or add a good memory to the game overall. The first such thing I saw in the game was when I was eating breakfast with my hosts and finished toast popped out of the toaster. It seems really tiny and insignificant, but it was so unexpected I actually jumped a little in my seat. If you're looking for a "big" example of details, naturally it would be the manga-like marks that appear above the characters quite often which explain their moods. Especially in cutscenes without voiceovers, it helps hold things together well.

I also can't help but mention how well "detail" and dialogue is used in the Persona. As a voiceless protagonist, somehow you're still turned into an incredible character and member of your group. If it weren't for the fact that you're controlling him at all times and his ability to control multiple Personas is unique, you can easily imagine him being just any other normal person at school. It's a damn good feat of writing to allow someone without a voice to be both the "main" character and the strongest in most any sense of the word.

The "mood" is also simply amazing. As you could expect, there is an eventual point in the plot where things have entirely hit the proverbial fan and things look incredibly grim. I can almost assure you that you'll be so sucked in to the game at this point that you'll literally have knots in your stomach waiting for the next horrible thing to happen. This is made all the more exciting by the fact that very few of the major events happen at times you would expect and you get a lot of short term changes you need to cope with.

In starting a summary, it needs to be said that this game is not for everyone. It takes dedication to get the most out of this game. Although I'd like to think that anyone who has ever at any point played any type of RPG and enjoyed it would find Persona 4 to be an incredible experience, there are some players that can't handle hours without battle action, or the fact that it's hardly worth turning on your PS2 unless you have at least 1-2 full hours to play in order to make much progress.

I'll kind start to finish this by giving a testimonial of my feelings throughout playing. At 10 hours in, I felt kind of disappointed. At 20, I'd adjusted to this. By 30, I was engaged. Hours 30 to 40 were hands-down the most I've ever enjoyed in any RPG (or game in general, actually). 40-Finish had me on the edge of my seat, and my first time at [AN] ending resulted in my crying for about 10 minutes.

Oh... and as a last impression, I'd like to say that this game answers important questions in life, such as what happens when a protagonist is used as an underage male prostitute (indirectly). Perhaps you'd like to know what hints of fanservice from previous Persona titles would look like. Best of all, you might be curious to know what an 8-bit era dungeon crawling game would look like in 3D, and thankfully such a vital ponderance is answered for you. When's the last time you fought a boss that was a 16x16 block of pixels. That's what I thought.

...

Conclusion-Just an incredible symphony here. At this point I'm not even sure if this truly my favorite RPG, but a somewhat objective view shows what is practically a flawless game that has corrected every imaginable critique it faced in its last release. There is still potential for great leaps forward in the Persona series, but at this time Persona 4 is worthy of the utmost praise for everything it gives you.

Dare I say, Atlus is developing enough of a fanbase around the world now that releases are anticipated at nearly the same level of Square-Enix games? Might we finally have another true powerhouse in the RPG department which is slowly evolving past niche games to things anyone can enjoy playing? We'll have to see what Atlus can put together for the PS3 and/or 360, I suppose. They might not have the budget or resources of the SE-folk, but they have 10x the heart put into their titles right now. Not impressed enough yet? I love this game. I have always loved Japanese games since they have very pretty art. I don't like games that are totally fighting styled because I think that is just boring.

There are so few English games that include social interactions of any kind (Except maybe the Sims series), which is just so sad!! A lot of Japanese games have it, which is why a lot of females play Japanese games. Too bad I don't understand Japanese. I think Persona 4 is sort of a game that even female can play (too bad the main character can only be a guy!) I really do hope more games like this come out!! I was so into the game!

Plus the game is hilarious, the story is intriguing too. Usually I stop playing a game after a few days but this one I actually played for much longer than normal!!! If there is a Persona 5, I will definitely buy it!

Actually I just brought Persona 3 FES. Kind of backward but after playing Persona 4, I want to collect this series!
