check your brain, sense of reality, and expectations at the door. bayonetta is something else.

it's ridiculous, knows its ridiculous, and completely revels in it. from her exaggerated sexy catwalk gait, to the way she kisses barriers away, to the fanservice 'photo op' moments at the end of certain combos, to the way her clothes disappear as you pull off a powerful combo (because her hair not only forms her clothes, but also her most powerful weapons, *of course* they'd get used up when she does something powerful), to the nonsensical plot and cast of characters, to the over the top violent eviscerations...bayonetta is a real gamer's delight...if you have the right mindset. i personally couldn't stop grinning and laughing through the game.

+ everything about this game screams quality (one might argue the script is 2nd grader-quality, but i'd argue it was intentionally so).

+ massive amounts of combos so novices can't help but pull off cool stuff, but also tons of depth so the gamers that want to be *great* can be. there are some tricky combos that can be strung together that are insanely cool see youtube.

+ not quite as hard as the devil may cry series or ninja gaiden...a bit more approachable, if you can handle the chaos on screen.

+ NOT FOR KIDS. seriously. cussing, partial/implied nudity, violence.

+ hilarious soundtrack. from jazzy-j-pop to orchestral, very unique.

quick tips

don't spam the dodge button. you're doing it wrong. just like radiant silvergun or bullet-dodgers of the past, you have to focus on where your character is and who's about to hit you. THEN press the dodge button.

don't button mash. learn the combos, especially the immediate wicked weave ones (e.g. heel stomp). if you can summon those on cue, you won't have as much trouble fighting the flaming enemies (they hurt you if you hit them directly)

you don't have to finish the game to grind. pressing RB at chapter end lets you re-play any previous chapters. chapter 2 is great for grinding halos early on.

Imagine Devil May Cry 4 or Ninja Gaiden 2 if the main character was a gun-toting, sword wielding, black magic using, stripper-witch. If that sounds like a good time, then you should love this game.

Story: 6/10

The weakest part of Bayonetta is the convoluted story. It tells an epic 500 year long tale about the Umbra Witches, the Lumen Sages, Heaven, Hell, Earth, and magic jewels called the Eyes of the World. There's enough story here for a Bioware RPG, downloadable content, and a costly expansion. Unfortunately, there are only six main characters and it feels like there are three too many. Basically, the gods are control freaks and Bayonetta tries to save the world by battling angelic warriors. What saves the story is that Bayonetta doesn't really take anything seriously, she just cracks jokes, struts around like a fashion model, pole dances, and kills things by the hundreds. Although the entire universe is in danger, Bayonetta still manages to have fun the entire time. In one scene, the main characters are in a plane that is about to crash. A dramatic sound effect plays, "Dun Dun" and they zoom in on Luka, who looks terrified. "Dun Dun" and they zoom in on a little girl, clinging desperately to her stuffed animal. "Dun Dun" they zoom in on Bayonetta's cleavage! But, if the lack of story bothers you, you'd be the kind of person who'd bring a book to a strip club and complain that it's too dark to read.

Characters: 9/10

Bayonetta, Jeanne, and Cereza are great, others are forgettable.

Bayonetta is an instant videogame icon. She's beautiful, powerful, sexy, intelligent, fun, and extremely entertaining. Clad in an outfit made of gold chains and magical hair, she looks and moves like a stripper. Her hair is the source of her power; as she performs long combination attacks or powerful magic spells, her hair disappears from her outfit and attacks the enemies, leaving her wearing next to nothing. After she completes these attacks, her outfit rematerializes. Her accessories are great, from her black cat earrings, her butterfly glasses, and her high heels made of magical automatic weapons that never run out of bullets. Bayonetta's primary attacks involve acrobatics, guns, martial arts, magic, and bladed weapons. She can acrobatically jump 30 feet into the air, perform a 20 hit sword combo, and shoot 10 enemies with the guns on her feet before she lands. If that's not enough, Bayonetta also shapeshifts into a flock of ravens or a black panther complete with blood red nail polish. Her dialogue and voice acting are outstanding. Everything about her screams the perfect hostess for a good time.

Jeanne is a rival witch who appears in the game as an ally and a boss character. She shares many of the same attributes as Bayonetta.

Cereza is THE CUTEST little girl to every appear in a game... EVER!

The rest of the characters provide some comic relief and are a mixed bag.

Gameplay: 10/10

Bayonetta's gameplay is amazing! Because she attacks with her hands, feet, magic hair, swords, blades, gun heels, spells, etc... She has the most potential to be the deadliest video game character of all time. She's up there with Kratos from God of War.

The game relies on a combo system based on pressing the hand, foot, jump, and shoot buttons. Anyone can easily pull off impressive looking 20 hit combos. Many of the combos can be linked together to perform 40 or 60 hit combos if you have some skill. There is no block, just an evade button. If you evade just before an attack hits you, the game slows down for a few seconds, allowing you to counterattack enemies. Bayonetta's enemies are ruthless and complement her attack styles. Most action games have cookie-cutter throwaway enemies that perform simple attacks. You can tell, that a lot of effort was made to suit the enemies to Bayonetta's fighting style from the minions to the gigantic bosses. This results in GREAT FUN!

You can upgrade Bayonetta with more weapons, spells, items, attacks, etc... There are enough upgrades in the game to warrant three playthroughs if you want to collect `em all.

When some enemies are killed, Bayonetta can wield their weapons as well. Polearms, massive swords, bows, axes, demonic claws, etc...

As you play through the levels, you collect potion components, and halos that you can use to create or buy items. There are temporary power ups, like health, limited invincibility, magic, improved damage, that come in the form of suckers... because Bayonetta likes to suck on things. It sure beats the typical "stepping on a first aid kit" that old shooters used to have. You can also buy items that boost Bayonetta's Max Health, or Max Magic. So, if part of the game is too difficult, you are free to replay an easier level and "farm it" for halos. Bayonetta can also buy more outfits, weapons, spells, attack moves, etc...

Level Designs: 9/10

The levels are amazing set pieces to showcase the action. There are destructible areas, hidden spell components, halos, power-ups... The art style is similar to Devil May Cry. The levels are linear and it's almost impossible to get lost. Aside from the action levels, there are also, driving, shooting, and flying levels as well. At the end of each level, you get a grade and a bonus based on your time, combo points, and damage that you took. You're free to replay levels if you want to get a better award.

Bayonetta can also "Witch Walk." This allows her to run on walls and ceilings, which makes some of the levels even more dynamic and over the top. In one level, a city floods with lava and you run on the sides of buildings while performing acrobatics and fighting angels.

Reward Systems: 8/10

Bayonetta's rewards are great, but this system would have worked much better in an open ended game like GTA, Red Faction, Fallout 3... At times, you may want to farm levels to collect money for an upgrade. This really encourages you to break the game's story continuity and replay levels while skipping cutscenes. It's a minor gripe because the upgrades and reward systems are very well done.

Replay Value: 7/10

If you like action games, the combat system, weapons, and reward system are good enough to play over and over and over. Playing through on Normal Mode is just short of 10 hours. Bayonetta's combat system is so deep, it warrants 18 levels and 5 difficulty settings. You can keep playing to unlock new weapons, techniques, outfits, and compete on the Xbox Live Leaderboards.

Sound: 8/10

Some of the music tracks are epic and fun, while a few others don't quite fit. Most of the voice acting is great! The explosions, demonic sounds, gunfire, collapsing buildings... all punctuate the action.

Maturity: M

The game is sexy and suggestive, but there aren't any sex scenes. Instead the game is playful and fun. There are loads of gore and some harsh language. This is for late teens and adults.

Overall: 9.5/10

Bayonetta's character design, combat system, and determination to make the player have a great time, make it a strong contender for Action Game of the Year. It's one of the most entertaining games beat-em up games that I've ever played.

Buy this game if you like great action games like Devil May Cry, Ninja Gaiden, or God of War.

Rent it if you have 10-12 hours, love AAA Action Titles, and have commitment issues.

Avoid it if you hate fun.

Though I consider 2011 technically the start of the new decade, Bayonetta along with Darksiders has been branded the first games of the new decade, the rip-roaring start to what should be a fantastic year yet an unbelievably crowded first 4 months of 2010. Bayonetta, developed by Platinum Games who worked on Viewtiful Joe and Okami, have basically made what people want to describe as the "action genre evolved", the new standards to which the next Devil May Cry or God of War have to live up to. While there's definately some moments that I can legitimately say no game has ever done for, there's other parts where I lament its inclusion or wish something was tweaked so it wasn't a certain way. Essentially the game, unless you're an action-game master, might be a tad too difficult for people with nimble reflexes, good understanding of the combat and some rare instances of almost needing clairvoyance to avoid the "where'd that come from?" deaths. For in Bayonetta you have one of the most fluid battle systems to be in a game, you also have trial-by-death moments, a tonally-off storyline and parts that don't give the game any favors. Least we'll get one hell of a sequel though. Possibly.

Story: You play as Bayonetta, an Umbran Witch part of a clan that's more or less on the "bad side" which wars against the forces of Heaven, or the Lumen Sages. Having been re-awakened after 500 years of being sealed away with no memory, Bayonetta embarks on a quest to discover her past, her connection to a little girl named Cereza and artifacts known as the "Eyes of the World". The problem with the game as a whole as far as its story is concerned is that its hard to tell when the game is taking itself seriously and when it's poking fun so the game is either really serious with slapstick thrown in or satire/comedy with odd pathos moments mixed in. Not to mention for some people it might be hard to follow and outside of Bayonetta herself, the characters aren't incredibly likable but like Devil May Cry, story is just an aside to the action.

Graphics: Graphically, the game isn't quite a "holy ****!"-esque stunner but the game is very-well animated with the character animations for moves, certain levels such as Paradiso levels looking flat-out gorgeous while enemy designs, especially bosses, are imposing, weird and screen filling. In fact there's one boss in the game that practically eclipses the final boss of Shadow of the Colossus and that guy was a tower. But then the game does do this weird stylistic thing where cutscenes play out more like animated comic strips with no lip-sync but just a character pose and lines of dialogue which jets around to another frame to present another look at the cutscene. It'll either be cool or just...weird.

Sound/Music: Another oddball soundtrack which combines jazz and epic orchestral themes and part of it just doesn't work. While we're a long ways to the awful metal track that permeated through Devil May Cry, at times you'll hear a nicely done orchestral theme and then you run right smack into a jazzy theme and yes, even a J-pop song and unlike some games which usually one J-pop theme with the main type of music throughout, it goes back and forth so much and the music itself might not seem that memorable either. Voice acting also is somewhat stilted and while Bayonetta and the character Jeanne are nicely done, everyone else is kind of ridiculous and the mastermind behind the whole ordeal is so droll in his voice and thanks to a long cutscene, you might be in a snooze before you realize you gotta fight the dude.

Gameplay: Bayonetta is similar to Devil May Cry's battle system where a certain command is used to start a move as opposed to say Ninja Gaiden or God of War which was a combination of X/Square and Y/Triangle but here, there's things like "tap forward twice and Y" or "rotate left analog and B" but what makes Bayonetta work as an action game is just how well it works and God of War 3 does have its work cut out for it because I'll be honest with you, I button mash God of War yet I learn Bayonetta/Devil May Cry systems. One especially useful tactic is Witch Time where if you press RT when you're about to get hit you activate a bullet time for a few seconds which allows you unfettered access to wail on enemies without fear of being attacked though strangely as you progress in the game certain enemies aren't even affected by Witch Time and you just dodge the move regularly. In addition, Bayonetta has guns and unlike DMC's candy shooting pistols, they're nicely useful here and with guns strapped to her feet and held in her hands, that's 4 guns to use on enemies and it's fun to "breakdance" and just spin around on the floor and shoot everything in sight. And you can also buy abilities that'll change you into different forms such as the Panther (a fast runner and quick getaway in battle), Crow (a flight-based attacker that flies for a bit) and Bat (click RT when you've just gotten damaged and you turn into a bat, negating that damage though I can never get the timing down). All in all, there's a huge arsenal of moves to use and with a loading screen acting as a training ground with move lists ready to be read and used, it's fairly easy to pick.

That being said, Japanese game developers, especially when it comes to action games tend to be, well, a lot more better than the average player and at times it feels like that's how the game was made, a game for experts. Granted there is an easy and very easy mode but for most people, Normal tends to be the default and when you're getting your ass handed to you regularly in normal encounters, bosses that are very cool and inventive but some take way too long (final boss for sure) or quicktime events that come out of nowhere, it might frustrate a few new players and I've beaten Ninja Gaiden 2 on Mentor (well, Sigma 2 I should say, NG2's a mess) and even I was having problems though I suppose practice will make perfect. However, that doesn't excuse certain sections of the game that quite frankly don't work, the out-of-the-blue Quicktime events or the astronomically high prices of the accessories which practically encourage farming or replaying to the Nth degree. Some might enjoy it but I like it when I can afford everything reasonably, not replay a mission 12 times to afford one thing only to find out there's 10 things I gotta purchase.

Bayonetta is certainly a better feeling action game all-around though certain issues I have with it will most likely be corrected if they ever do a sequel but as a first game, this thing is top-notch but to avoid mentioning certain problems it has I think would be a mistake but give it a try, it'll either be the best action game all year or one of the better ones that could've been the best.

Honest reviews on Bayonetta - Xbox 360

Bayonetta has a truly Japanese, odd plot. Angels with baby faces, portals to hell and overly tall sexual witches. I dunno. But despite that, the game is a lot of fun.

The story is straightforward walking into the next area fighting minions followed by a boss. There are many homages to Sega's other games including of course Devil May Cry and Sonic. I consider it a button masher, since who the heck actually remembers all 100 combos? You can buy new weapons and moves and of course heal yourself with lollipops. You can also construct your own lollipops but the menu is so un-intuitive and took me several tries to figure out what needed to be done. It's highly unnecessary--you should just be able to find them.

My main gripe with this game is their difficulty system. Despite it's female character and hyperfeminine graphics/names/moves/music it is a game geared toward men (proven by all the males shouting "YEAAH!" when she spreads her legs to take out an enemy). They have difficulties of Very Easy, Easy, and Normal. Normal is actually harder than it should be and Easy is probably too easy (since they increase your health and angels attack less). I'm no pro gamer, so halfway through the game, Normal became too hard for bosses. I switched to easy, and even though every male that played died at least 20x on normal NO ONE could bare to switch to easy. If easy was normal and normal was hard, there would be no problem. I guess it's a challenge of your manhood. I beat the game, but it was too easy on easy. They definitely need an in between.

All in all a lot of fun to mess around with the moves. One of the most fun games I've played this year.

I picked up this game being a fan of the 'Devil May Cry series'. The action is very over the top, and overall plot/dialogue can't be taken too seriously. But the gameplay/cinematics will make up for the overall campy stroy arc.

The plot seems to be very simular to the comic/movie 'Constintine'. An eternal war between paradise and the inferno, the main characters stand between both factions to keep the lines balanced. I'm still very early in the game, but it seems to be stacking cliche plot twists I'm anticipating any moment now. But this really isn't the type of game played for the story-arch.

The gameplay is terribly simular to Devil May Cry, Devil Kings, etc. It is a third person action shooter, with a fairly simple control/fighting scheme. You can string together combos with standard punch, kick, and firearms. Weapons and fighting abilities can be purchased to add more variety in your combos. An amazing feature when aquiring upgrade items is the opportunity to try the attacks before actually purchasing them. It can be frustrating trading in game credits just for an item or weapon you soon realize "yup, I'm never using that." Accomplishing long strings of combos enables more devistating ranged attacks or cinematic "executions". Like holding an enemy while a guilituine or iron maiden appears and you throwing it into the device.

Now the drawbacks. Between stringing attacks and dodging enemies, the rhythm is very fast paced but easy to learn after the opening stages. Even with good timing, the majority of the gameplay can also be accomplished through button mashing, especially fighting standard enemies from one end of the level to the other. It can become VERY repetitive, even with new finishing movies and abilities unlocked. Because of this, you will see the same cinematics over and over again. Because of this most people will either love or hate the game. The gameplay is linear, there is no sandbox enviroment to wander around in. I think games like this are much more entertaining without the free roaming. Not everything has to entitle a GTA like wandering enviroment, but some people have accepted it as some sort of standard. Campaign mode and nothing else. I don't see what else can really be done with a game like this, but the only bonus outside of the story is online leaderboards.

Overall, if you like 3rd person action platformers, this game is definately worth checking out. Be warned, it is repetitive, but the gameplay seems well worth it. It should also be noted that the violence and overt sexual themes are endless. If by chance you're a concerned parent or offended by either, be warned this game never quits with either.

Pros:

Great action

infinate combo strings between weapons/ability upgrades

"Equilibrium" style gunplay

entertaining fight climax/cinematics

looks gorgeous in HD

mindless entertainment is easy and fun

Cons:

REPETITIVE and overall button masher

campaign, leaderboards, and nothing else

cheesy story/bad dialogue all around

mindless entertainment could get old fast

Medal of Honor Collection - PlayStation 2 Reviews

Medal of Honor Collection - PlayStation 2
Customer Ratings: 4.5 stars

The classic war games of this vein (MOH) are updated for your enjoyment on the PS2! It's a shooting game for those who like historical accuracy (with some artstic license, of course) mixed in with some pretty intense gameplay.

In the Medal of Honor Collection, you have 3 games to play: Medal of Honor: Frontline, Medal of Honor: Rising Sun, and Medal of Honor: European Assault. The first of the 3 games deals with the major battles of WWII, including the water landing at Normandy in June, 1944. The second game is strictly set in the Pacific Theatre, and opens with your character attempting to escape a damaged destroyer before it is sunk by Japanese attack at Pearl Harbor, in December, 1941. The final game in the collection is made with a whole new MOH format, which includes an adrenaline feature so you can go nuts on the enemy without taking damage, floating ammo/heath kit icons (instead of the standard items-on-the-ground format from the previous games.

MOH Frontline is my favorite game so far. The D-Day assault mission is VERY intense. It remainds me of the scene from Saving Private Ryan! There is a recoil on the weapons when firing, and also when a bomb drops, the entire screen shakes. It makes it very difficult to get a good accuracy rating.

MOH Rising Sun is a great game! I have never played a shooter so throughly steeped in the Pacific Theatre as is this MOH title.

MOH European Assault is a good game too, yet I haven't played that one trough very far yet!

One element that successfully ties all 3 games together is, your character actually works cooperatively with other computer controlled allies that help you during the missions. This is especially true in MOH Risisng Sun, and MOH European Assault. A great series of games awaits you in this Collection!

The Medal of Honor series is not only an excellent first-person shooter game on its own, but is quite entertaining if you are more social and still like to play multiplayer split-screen with friends it's one of only 3 games I play anymore.

While Frontline seems to be single player, (I haven't even opened it) in Rising Sun you can engage in a two-player cooperative campaign! This is unique to Rising Sun EA dropped that play mode for all future MoH iterations and I am not aware of any other first-person shooter like it.

Rising Sun and European Assault also support other multiplayer play modes plug in a multitap adapter and you can split your screen 4 ways for 4-player action. Could be a great party game if you like shooting things!

Rising Sun multiplayer team death match allows you to have up to 8 total players, including AI, so add in some AI players and the fun goes on for a long time. Gang up against against an all-AI team, or divide up into 2 human player teams and add in some AI to help your less proficient friends!

Unfortunately in European Assault they dropped the AI players from multiplayer modes, but they added some fun arena-based games like Capture the Flag. Also European Assault graphics and gameplay are significantly better than all previous MoH iterations I think they are pushing the limits of the PS2 console and it looks great for being a PS2 game! After playing European Assault for a while and then going back to an older MoH game it is apparent I've taken a step back in gaming technology.

You don't get the most recent MoH for PS2 in this collection, Vanguard, but I own that separately and will admit that it is in many ways not nearly as good as European Assault. Seems like they slapped it together to please the PS2 crowd during a time when they were spending most of their resources developing the PS3 game.

This is a nicely-priced collection of some very popular games, but it comes at a price: online play is NOT supported. I noticed that this info is not listed on the Amazon site, and hope to save someone the frustration of buying this product with the intention of playing online.

Honest reviews on Medal of Honor Collection - PlayStation 2

Fun, Fun and more Fun. The high end graphics are not the strenght of this game but the different missions and skill levels will replace that and if you are like me (a 37 year old man child) you will pay no matter to that particular point.

It's perfect to kill time when nothing's good on TV or you want to give a rest to reading Fantasy(wich is just as Fun..or even more depending on what are you reading).

Great price for an incredible combo. Medal of Honor Collection it's a must have.

Cheers!!!

I was excited to learn there would be a crazi taxi style game coming out using big rigs, but after I bought it I learned that it only had 4 levels and a really boring parking game. My friend and I beat the game in about 20 min. Another thing is that you can't just drive around like in crazi taxi ; you have about thirty seconds to get to each checkpoint.

The only cool thing about the game is that you can smash through anything in your way.

I recommend borrowing the game from a friend-don't waste ... on buying a game you will use for a half hour.

18 Wheeler was a good game in the arcade, and now you don't have to blow a dollar a pop to play it. The Dreamcast version is everything the arcade version is, crisp clean graphics, smooth controls, and great gameplay make this one of the last good Dreamcast games, think of it as Crazy Taxi with a big truck. Only problem is, and its a major problem at that, is this game is real short, and there are no extras, something Sega should have incorporated for their home conversion. Other than that, this is a good DC pickup.

Best Deals for 18 Wheeler American Pro Trucker

Kudos to Sega for another off-beat title. Who could have thought that one could make an entertaining game out of truck driving? Make no mistake this is a fun game. Points are also awarded for smooth, if not benchmark, animation and intuitive controls.

But shame goes to Sega for doing so little in porting the title over to a home console. With any arcade-to-console port, extras must be added or the gameplay must be modified to create replay value. Otherwise, there would be no excuse to buy the console version rather than spend the equivalent in quarters at the local arcade. Sadly, the core of the game, "arcade mode", is ported over with no change. And unlike the popular "Crazy Taxi", "18 Wheeler" does not go on and on if you are good enough. Instead, you go through a few stages and once you complete those stages ... nothing. Most people will learn to complete these stages inside of three hours. Sure, there is a "parking" challenge that is analagous to the mini-games in "Crazy Taxi", but again, once you finish them ... nothing.

Save your money and head down to your local arcade with some friends. For the equivalent number of quarters, the humorously large cabinet, life-sized trucker steering wheel, big bench seat, and loud horn will be more fun than you can ever have with this title at home.

Honest reviews on 18 Wheeler American Pro Trucker

18 Wheeler is a very fun game. It puts you in the mine as a real pro driver. You get to drive all over states. But the only problem with this game its too short. You'll get to earned money. You can get caught up with storms, crash into other trucks and cars. Most of all I think they made this game so that people will have a wonderful time. Play it with 2 players and really have a time with your life. Well enjoy your trip to Cally in a Cadillac.

I was in the market for some good surround sound gamine headphones. I Compared the price of these and astro's and tritons and you really get the better deal with the DXL1's. the DSS2 sound processor is alone $70 which is pretty crazy but just for about $20 more you get the surround sound headphone too! The regular x11's, x12's are stereo headphones where the speakers are only Left and Right outputs. Including the DSS2 into the mix will increase the quality but will not come close to these headphones. If you buy the DSS2 by itself then you most likely already have purchased the x11's or the x12' for about $50, totaling aprox. $120! Dont be that person, get this and you wont be disappointed :)

Bought these from walmart because i wanted to try our several different headsets and return what i did not like.

The Good:

First off the sound on these is much better then I anticipated. Pinpointing the directions of footsteps without the need of an equalizer was much better then I expected.

The wires were nice and long. I had no problem with reaching my couch or chair.

The DSS2 Processor was a nice addition to a basic headset, however i did pair the DSS2 with my steelseries V2 and unlike advertised I didn't notice any difference in sound.

With the Turtle beach headset attached to the DSS2 I noticed a big difference in sound.

The Bad:

Although very light, these we the most uncomfortable headsets I have ever used. The pads on the ear cups were more rough then using an off-brand toilet paper.

Overview:

If it weren't for the extremely uncomfortable headset I would have given these another star or two. I would recommend the upgraded version of this headset the DX12 because you get the same sound processor but a much more comfortable headset, the X12

I was looking for a headset that worked well with pc and xbox 360, which is where I found this. It is very sturdy and very light on your head. The cups are large enough to go around your ears and the sound quality is amazing. COD BO2 sounds amazing.

Would recommend to anyone who wants a solid xbox 360 headset. It says the headset is compatable with windows vista, but it functions as headphones with any windows computer. The mic however will not work on anything except the xbox.

Honest reviews on Turtle Beach Ear Force DXL1 Dolby Surround Sound Gaming Headset

I like to use my stuff for about a week before I do my reviews just to get a feel for the product. If you've read any of my other reviews, you know how much headsets I've purchased and tested. The reason why I purchased this is I sold my Astro A40s along with my Xbox a little while ago to buy a gaming PC. Now that GTA V was coming out soon and all of my friends were getting it, I got really hyped and wanted my Xbox again. I got my Xbox a few weeks before the game came out. I played Gears of War 3 in the mean time while waiting for GTA V with just with my stereo output but I couldn't really hear a whole lot. It's really hard to try to play a game when you're so used to having a surround sound headset. I then decided to buy a headset but I didn't feel like spending a whole $250 on a nice headset (not only that, I don't have the money for it). So I did some research and looked into it and decided to go with the DXL1. I couldn't be any more happy.

For starters, the headset itself is very lightweight. Typically with my experience with Turtle Beach, they don't have a good reputation with comfort. With these, I have no discomfort at all. I can wear these for hours and not have any problems. I have glasses and I still have no problem wearing these.

The sound quality is amazing. With the DSS2 Dolby Surround Sound processor, these things are great. It's virtual 5.1 surround sound. They have nine different equalizers and six different surround sound angles so you can set up what sounds best for you and the games you play. Whenever I play Gears of War 3, or Search and Destroy in Modern Warfare 3 (and yes, I still play both), you can hear where the enemy is. Not only that but the fact that you can use basically any headset for the DSS2 processor is awesome. If you want to upgrade to a different headset later on, you can do that and hook it up to the processor but I really don't see the need to upgrade because of how nice the DXL1 is.

I love how long the wire is for the headset. When I just want to relax, I can lay down in my bed and play with the headset, or I can sit down on my chair and game too. And I do like the fact that it's wired and not wireless. I've dealt with wireless headsets before and having to replace batteries all the time is a pain the back.

The only problem I have at time which is really not a huge deal but I sometimes have to shut off the DSS2 and turn it back on when I turn my Xbox off and then later play it. The Dolby Surround Sound won't turn on at times when I start up my Xbox so I'll have to shut off/turn on my DSS2. Not a big deal, just something to be noted.

Overall, this headset is amazing. After having high-end headsets, I really think they don't really compare to this. I paid $70 for this here on Amazon. You really can't beat the price for this wired headset. If you're looking for a nice, comfortable headset with great sound; look no further.

Picked these up to try out some gaming headphones and keep things quiet while playing.

Overall the sound is actually quite good. The bass for explosions and gun fire, such as games like Halo 4 and BF3 sound great. The virtual surround sound works pretty decent as well for being simulated, and you can discern from left/right and behind. I havent tried using the AUX IN, where you can plug in an MP3 player or other source and have it play over the game audio but it sounds like it could be a useful feature as well. Not sure how the AUX IN and game audio would mix, hopefully it wont be a distorted mess. Just based on game audio however, these headphones do have good deep lows and clear highs.

Set up and EQ/speaker positions are easy to figure out, just read the manual. Also the chat is really clear. When on XBL and talking I apparently sound "crystal clear" when using this headset (as I'm told by my bro). For me they seem decently comfortable, although I havent sat and tried using them for longer than 1-2 hours.

The only potential negative is that the newly announced Xbox One has a different port on the bottom of the controller for the chat mic and other accessories. I hope TB releases an adapter so that this head set and other head sets and still be plugged in to the XB1 controllers and their proprietary port.

Was Wipeout 1 a good game?? Personally, when I read a review that someones kid liked the game or they got a good deal, that doesn't qualify as to me as a legitimate review. YOU have to play the game to review it effectively. I've played mostly every Kinect title and reviewed most. Wipeout 1 suffered from a serious motion control issue. The controls were horrible, and if you have played the game and didn't have an issue with getting past the big balls, you have achieved more than 5 of my friends and myself have.

Fast forward to Wipeout 3. Motion controls fixed. FINALLY! PLUS, a big PLUS, you don't have to run. You can just use your arms as you would as if you were running. To jump, you lift your hands up in the air. You can tilt your body backwards or forwards to adjust or when you're in the air to go further or shorter.

It's the same Wipeout, that had the horrible controls with FIXED controls. In the original Wipeout, if you couldn't get past an obstacle, you'd use an arm motion, and you'd be docked a certain amount of penalty time. With the current Wipeout, you have 3 attempts to master that obstacle. At that point, if you failed the game would advance you past that obstacle.

I'd like to thank the developers for ignoring the glowing reviews from a broken game, and get down to work to fix the issues that they knew existed. Great job! Third times a charm!

Great fun family game. Very entertaining, all the family can play graphics are very good. All age groups can play

Honest reviews on Wipeout 3 - Xbox 360

I bought this game for myself hoping to get some sort of workout. Most of the moves can be made by simply raising your arms to jump or moving your hands to run. Can be hard to manipulate the characters for me, but my 9yo enjoys this game, so it was not a loss.

I don't know maybe it's how we have ours set up, but this game doesn't seem to respond very well. It doesn't recognize us all the time; or it'll switch who is who. I told my boyfriend I think it's 'cause we have it set up so close to us but our daughters Disney game works just fine, but that game doesn't require near as much movement as this game so who knows. It works pretty well with one player but we got this game as a family game and if we can only play one person at a time it defeats that purpose.

I'll admit that I was a bit wary before I purchased MLB 2K8 after witnessing a slew of Chicken Littles running around internet message boards, crying about frame rate and other issues, and watching a herd of self-proclaimed ex-fans of 2K Sports jumping ship to the PS3 and MLB: The Show. Nevertheless, as an avid follower of Major League Baseball and 360-owner I knew I would have to give the game a shot, and on a hunch that many of those shouting, "the sky is falling" were overreacting and/or trolls trying to start trouble, I bought the newest offering from 2K Sports and stuck it in my Xbox. After a bit of playing around I was able to confirm my suspicions. Don't listen to sheep--MLB 2K8 is a solid baseball experience, boasting several innovative gameplay features that outweigh the flaws.

2K8 introduces Precision Control Pitching, a system of pitching that allows players to imitate the movement of each pitch using the right control stick. Pitching is a three-step process: first, the player must choose a pitch by pointing the right control stick in one of five directions; second, the player slides the right control stick around in its axis for a breaking pitch or jolts the right control stick upwards or downwards for a fastball or change-up, respectively; third, the player releases the right control stick at the correct time to throw the pitch. This complicated procedure takes some getting used to and may turn off the more casual gamer, so thankfully 2K8 has included the option to use 2K7's more classic pitching technique. But those who are patient enough to figure out Precision Control will be rewarded with an authentic gaming experience that is also a lot of fun. When your in-game pitcher hangs a meat ball over the plate that is smashed against the centerfield wall, you'll know you legitimately screwed up the procedure instead of feeling as if you got jipped by crappy gameplay mechanics. On the other hand, when your pitcher drops a filthy 12-6 curve that retires the side, you'll have earned it.

Hitting has gone through some refurbishing in 2K8, resulting in the new and improved Swing Stick 2.0. Now, instead of pulling back on the right control stick and releasing to initiate a contact swing, and pushing the right control stick upward to initiate a power swing, the latter method is used for a contact swing; in fact, the power swing has been removed completely in order to reduce the amount of home runs from last year (in 2K7, big flies were more common than singles). Just like the pitching, the Swing Stick 2.0 requires some adjustment, so don't be surprised if you hit a lot of ground ball outs in your first game--timing is key. But after you get the timing down you should be pretty happy with the hitting in 2K8. It still has its issues, such as it being very difficult to discern whether an oncoming pitch is going to be a ball or a strike, but the movement of the right control stick in correlation with the gameplay is very accurate. And players who have trouble with the Swing Stick 2.0 can turn on the regular Swing Stick from 2K7 or "classic batting" (simply press `A' to swing) via the option menu.

The right control stick is also incorporated in fielding (surprise, surprise), as the player must hold the stick in the cardinal direction of a base (right for 1st base, up for 2nd base, etc.) and release to initiate the throw. But this too requires timing, as after the control stick is moved toward the direction of the base, a meter pops up by the fielder with the ball and quickly fills up. The meter will go from red to yellow to red again, and the most accurate throw will come in the yellow area. This makes fielding more fun and rewarding than simple button-mashing.

In terms of graphics, the character models are passable, although the faces for most players are badly-done and don't seem to fit with the rest of the body. Even if the faces are a bit off, the movements and quirks that each player brings to the plate or to the mound are captured brilliantly, helping the on-field action look and feel like a real game. 2K Sports worked hard to represent each stadium to great detail, and the aerial and inside views of the venues before the game are a nice touch.

Perhaps the biggest complaint by 2K8 critics is its choppy frame rate, which seems to affect only those playing on HD TV's. The game will often freeze momentarily and cause difficulties in gameplay. There are plans to release a patch in the near future that will fix this issue, and there are other unofficial methods of handling the problem in the mean time.

Online play is a disappointment for those with slow connections because lag throws off the timing and screws up the gameplay mechanics, so hopefully a patch will be released soon to fix that. The card system is a fun add-on for those looking for more than franchise mode, and it's always exciting to see which cards you earned after playing a game. I haven't toyed with the Player Beats or Stadium Beats yet, but as far as I know it allows the user to give walk-up songs to his in-game players, something that I've always wanted from a baseball game. The song choice for 2K8's menus is a bit odd; a lot of indie rock mixed with some more alternative stuff, but after an hour or two you'll be used to it.

All in all, 2K Sports did an excellent job with its third-party exclusivity this year, even if many critics will disagree. I have yet to play MLB 08: The Show, so I cannot say whether 2K8 is the better baseball game, but I can assure you that if you have the patience to figure out the new pitching, hitting and fielding mechanics and can look past the frame rate issues, you will be rewarded with a genuine baseball experience.

I have many complaints with this game.

First of all, it is pretty glitch heavy. It takes forever to load on several screens, and with no status bar that leaves the user wondering if the game has simply frozen.

Second of all, the learning curve is, as others have said, pretty damn steep. Pitching is insanely difficult. The slightest twitch in your thumb will frequently cause a wild pitch or the batter to slug a home run.

Third of all, the cut scenes during the game take way too long to load and are jerky. There is no smooth action to the gameplay. Even when I modified the settings to eliminate the cutscenes, the movement was still hesitant and jerky. During the fifth inning of one of my games during a batter change for the opposing team, the "End of Game" screen came up and announced that the game was over! I thought for a second, "Okay, cool. I'm winning," but when I got to the franchise screen it did not count that ball game as having been played.

Please rent before you buy. I'm glad I did. I almost shelled out $60 for this game until I remembered that I had a free rental coupon. There are far too many glitches in this game for me to find it entertaining.

Fun to play when the game does not freeze up. Too many glitches in Franchise mode to count. Cut scenes are horrible. IMPOSSIBLE TO DRAW A WALK even with the sliders turned completely to the left for AI pitching accuracy. I was very dissapointed considereing this is the 360 and we are now in the year 2008. MVP Baseball 2005 is far supperior to this. This is what happens when there is a monopoly. The game makers get lazy. One other thing, just like 2k07 the farther you get in franchise years the more bugs...

Honest reviews on Major League Baseball 2K8 - Xbox 360

I've been really, really trying to look past the bugs in this game, but I've finally hit my breaking point. This game is so full of bugs that it's unplayable. It literally freezes about 15% of the time for me. And no, it is not my Xbox. As a software developer, I understand that you cannot fix every bug or else you'd never ship. But to deliver a product with massive defects is inexcusable. Add in the fact that the opposing pitchers never throw balls and there is no contact swing, that seals the deal. 2K Sports -epic fail. I will not be buying MLB 2k9 no matter what.

I have always hated this series and assumed I would hate this version as well. I downloaded the demo and did not like it at first. I then played quite a bit of the demo and began seeing the amazing features that are hidden in this game until you get the controls down. After buying the game and playing it for a week I can now say it is the best baseball game I have ever played. Like Fight Night did for boxing, this game has done for baseball. You will never again want to press a button to throw the ball to a base or pitch. Those who gave it a negative review simply have not given the game enough time. There is no way someone could pan this game if they truly understood the controls.

This one is a lot of fun. I love Fifa 2008 and PES 2008, but this one has better graphics than Fifa 2008 and a slicker menu system. I think the difficulty settings are not as good as PES 2008 though and the crowd graphics in PES are much better than the EA games, with the drawback being the licensed clubs being limited in PES.

If you enjoyed either Fifa or PES you'll like this one, but of course it's just Euro Cup national teams and thus not worth full price by any means. I don't like the marketing gimmick of coming out with titles just for specific tournaments but at the full price, get this when it's at half price as that's more indicative of the value. If you want all the licensed leagues there's nothing better than Fifa, you can create tournaments there as well, but World Cup is not a set tournament nor is Euro Cup or Champions League, etc. out of the box. I recommend this one at half price due to it just being Euro Cup.

Let me preface this review by saying I've owned every FIFA or EA soccer game since 06. This is definitely the best of the lot. The passing and dribbling is smoother and I only wish I could put this gameplay engine into my FIFA 08 game. The players don't react as slowly as in FIFA and the defence is more tougher. The improved passing accuracy makes up for the defence being harder. You can penetrate the D by threading in lobbed through balls on the button. Only negative is playing as Holland will give you generic players since EA doesn't own the rights and Pro Ev does. But, oh well. Pick it up mos def if you are a FIFA fan or soccer video game fan in general.

I am not a big "video soccer" player, but thought this might be fun as I typically do like the sports games. However, this one was a little too advanced for someone not that familiar with the controls. There does not appear to be any "training" mode to help a novice learn the controls and even playing on the easiest level using a top notch team I was unable to do anything to make the game fun and make me want to play it more. The computer constantly kept stealing the ball from my players and dominated play (again, I'm a new player so this isn't completely unexpected). In the end I lost 5-0 but I don't think I got any shots on goal ... at least no good shots on goal, and I think the computer felt sorry for me and kept the score closer than it really was. For players with experience and familiarity with soccer on XBOX360 this may be a great game, but I don't fall into that category. And the game didn't do much to make me want to keep trying as the learning curve is steep and I am far to casual of a video game player.

EA Sports Active 2 - Xbox 360
Customer Ratings: 3.5 stars

3 1/2 stars out of 5

The "2" in EA Sports Active 2 is actually a little misleading. The first EA Sports Active came out for the Wii in May of 2009, and the second, titled "More Workouts," came out 6 months later, adding much needed core exercises. This game, in essence, is the third in the series. Needless to say, I've been a fan of the franchise for a while, and it has been a great addition to my workouts. I decided to sell my Wii recently and upgrade to XBOX and Kinect, especially after hearing EASA 2 would be out soon after launch. However, being the third iteration in the series, this title for the XBOX is a bit of a step backwards.

Pros:

+ The addition of a heart rate monitor is great! It's accurate, stays put on my forearm even during the boxing workout, and it's easy to connect.

+ No more Wiimote and Nunchuck getting in your way. You don't have to decide between having the leg strap fall off of you or cut off the circulation to your right foot. This allows you to finally use your own weights instead of the included resistance band. There is even a setting adjustment for players wanting to take advantage of this feature.

+ The included resistance band is much more... resistant than the previous band. Your arms will now feel the burn on curls, raises and presses.

+ Step aerobics and boxing is a lot of fun. Both exercises have seen improvements and work well with the Kinect.

+ The game FINALLY recognizes my jumps! One frustration with the Wii was its inability to recognize jumps during downhill inline skating. No more, Sports Active fans!

+ Intensity is not a problem with this game. I completed medium intensity workouts and my heart rate stayed at about 70-80% of my maximum.

+ Lots of stats. You want stats, you got 'em. This game will tell you your average heart rate, calories burned, percent completion, and will give you graphs to measure your intensity. It will even tell you how many of each exercise you've ever performed, ever.

+ Achievements. Nothing like increasing your gamerscore and getting in shape at the same time, am I right?

Cons:

Motion-controlled menu interface. It is useless. Tip: Once you get your heart rate monitor connected, turn on your XBOX 360 controller as well. If you're expecting to have a controller-less experience with EASA 2, you will be spending a lot of time inadvertently hitting the wrong options and correcting your mistakes.

Voice recognition. I thought this would be a pretty cool addition. Yeah sure, I'd like to pause my workout simply by saying "Pause." But try to do anything else and you'll find out that it's not worth it. Want to skip an exercise? "Pause." "Skip exercise." "Select." (Are you sure?) "Skip exercise." "Select." It's not a fast process and a little more than annoying if what you say doesn't register the first time. Also, during my first exercise, I somehow managed to bring up the radio on two occasions (by voice prompt I'm assuming) and COULD NOT get it to go away. I had to pull out my handy controller again and hit "X" to get rid of it.

"Show Me How" is a pain! My first workout was 42 minutes long, and I bet I managed to accidentally trigger this selection about 30 times. I'm not sure if it was a phantom voice prompt or arm movement that triggered it, but it really put a kink in my workout.

No real-life trainers. It's a small complaint, but I think it's worth mentioning. In the first EASA, you learned how to perform exercises from actual human beings, which not only helped you with your form but also made you think, "Hey, if he/she can do it, so can I." Instead, EA has replaced these trainers with generic computer renderings tirelessly performing alternating jump lunges. Were the developers too rushed to include them? Or just cheap?

Trainer prompts and suggestions. One of the best features of the first EASA was the helpful suggestions given during your workout, telling you to focus on breathing or tighten your glutes. They were spouted often but always changed and were generally helpful. Now, they are overly repetitive and not useful. Yes, I know I should keep my pushups low, but if I go any lower, I will actually just be laying on the floor. Tip: after you've have one go through all of the exercises and heard all the trainer has to say, go to game settings and turn off all trainer input. You'll be happier doing the running drills when you're not being told to keep your back straight every 10 seconds.

Overall, EA Sports Active 2 does give you a solid, heart-pounding workout at home. But it feels as though EA made a last minute port instead of tailoring their SA franchise for the Kinect. Controls are finicky, graphics are a bit lacking, and sometimes you'll scream at your console for once again "showing you how" to do something you already know how to do.

Verdict: If you already have one of the previous Sports Actives for the Wii, skip this one. For 100 dollars, it's not worth upgrading. But if you are new to workout games, have an XBOX, a Kinect and an endless supply of patience, I'd say go for it. You will get a good balance of cardio and muscle sculpting workouts, and achievements will have you chasing new goals constantly.

There are some ways this product falls short, and others where it excels.

Pros:

-Heart rate monitoring. Your heart rate is an extremely useful tool for getting the most out of your workouts, working out safely, working out effectively, and a very good way of gauging your intensity. Beginners always have a hard time knowing whether or not they're working out with enough intensity, or if they're putting unnecessary stress on their heart. For those with heart conditions, I wouldn't even consider another fitness game.

-Resistance training and weight settings. You can use resistance bands for many of the workouts used by the game, or you can change a setting so that you can use your own dumbbells (up to 30 pounds, as far as I can tell). Resistance training is an important part of any serious workout.

-9 week program. This is a great feature for beginners and those that have been out of the routine for a while. It puts you on a routine with three selectable levels of intensity, four days a week for about a half hour per day. These workouts are great. I struggled to finish the Medium setting the first time through as a former athlete who's spent a little too much time couch gaming over the past few years and eating too much fast food after being too lazy to get back into my routine after an illness. For a while, expect these routines to take as much as an hour out of your day. Another plus here is warm-up and cool-down at the beginning and ending of each day's routine. Other fitness tools neglect this extremely important aspect of a good workout. Where is the stretching? It's unfortunate that good stretching wasn't thrown into the warm-up and cool-down portions.

Cons:

-Customization. I haven't explored this feature a great deal yet, but there doesn't appear to be an extensive level of customization.

-Stat tracking. This is pretty much a joke. The elaborate stat tracking that was posted is essentially just you answering a roll call. Did you exercise today? Yes. Did you eat healthy? Yes. Okay. Its making sure you participated, which is great, but I want to monitor my body's specific progress. It doesn't even have an input (that I've seen), where you can input your weight each day after weighing yourself on a scale, which I find sad considering you can mark down your participation in outside activities and have it count toward your progress. Why can't I record my weight progress, EA? Wii Fit lets you do it, and appears to be a superior tool for monitoring your results progress. If you have both, continue doing your Wii Fit Body Test daily as a supplement to EA Sports Active 2.

As I've said, these are initial impressions and may change. I intend to update this review as I discover new ways it excels and fails. At the end of day one, my body is feeling the too long unfamiliar feeling of a great workout.

UPDATE (11/19/10) Dropped from 4 to 2 stars.

Just completed my second workout and wow... just wow. I am about 8 feet from my TV because my living room is narrow but according to other Kinect games like Kinect Adventures and Dance Central have no problem detecting all of my movements easily. The second routine has a lot of workouts on that involve sitting on the floor, consecutively. Not only does the game force you to be standing at the beginning of each one of these to be recognized by the Kinect, but it also would not recognize anything my legs did while on my back no matter what I did. When I was supposed to be doing V crunches, I was having to kick one leg up in the air as high as I could just to get it to count a rep so I could just move on to the next workout. I tried lying sideways, straight forward, angled, closer, further away. NOTHING worked. I had to skip 2-3 workouts because of this. 8 feet should be plenty. Today, I was genuinely annoyed that I wasted an hour out of my day I could have spent getting a real workout. After this, I am really leaning toward selling it, as I don't have the 10-12 feet this apparently requires for floor workouts.

UPDATE 2 (11/22/10) Still 2 stars.

My wife and I have both done additional workouts with EA Active 2, moving the Kinect both above and below the TV, recalibrating everything as well. This thing still will not pick anything up that goes on when you're on the floor correctly, aside from pushups. It appears to be a result of the couch being at our backs. If your feet get near the couch, it can't detect your feet properly anymore. Again, my couch is about ten feet from the TV; supposedly plenty. If you take even one step forward, it tells you that you are too close once you lie down and won't track the movements anyway. No other Kinect game I've tried so far has had this problem.

Best Deals for EA Sports Active 2 - Xbox 360

I preorderd this game and had a chance to pop it into the 360 and play it tonight. I own both of the previous Wii EA Sports Active games (for Wii) and enjoyed them both, but ended up falling off of the exercise wagon after a while.

I'm hoping this one can keep me motivated a bit longer.

I'm just going to go through a quick list of the Pros and Cons.

Pros:

Voice navigation through the game's menus is pretty awesome. Being able to skip workout tutorials just by using my is pretty awesome. You can also navigate through the in-game music choices to skip tracks if you feel the need.

Syncing with EASportsActive.com is good stuff. Sometimes during my lunch break I like to check in on my fitness schedule to know when my rest days are. You're also able to change attributes on your account like weight and have it sync back to the Xbox.

Workout tutorials are very helpful. Videos actually show you the way to hold the weights and how to perform the exercise. The trainer tells you where you should feel the burn so that helps you know if you are doing it correctly.

Kinect Sensor makes this game so much easier. One thing I hated about the Wii version was constantly pulling the nunchuck out of the leg strap and having to try to fit it back in there on the next exercise. No more fussing with that. Kinect just tracks your motion with its camera, so there is nothing to hold on to. Some exercises require weights, so the only thing you will switch back and forth between are exercises not requiring weights and exercises requiring weights...

Being able to use free weights rather than the resistance weight band. I grabbed myself a couple of 5 lb. weights and entered it into my game profile and went to town. When you set up your profile, you tell it how heavy the weights are, and it uses that information to help calculate your calorie burn. The game comes bundled with a resistance band if you don't have any weights of your own.

This isn't an EA Sports Active pro, more of a 360/Kinect pro. Achievements are awesome. I have a feeling the lust for every achievement point in this game will be one thing that motivates me to keep playing. Setting up your account and getting through your first workout session nets you about 30 points. I can't imagine how tone I will be after collecting them all.

Cons:

I consider the bundled heart rate monitor both a pro and a con. It is interesting to see your rate spike when you're really pushing it, and I can see how it would give you a more accurate calorie burn reading, but the fact that it increases the price of the game to $99 makes it a little harsh. The rate monitor just isn't that important to me. I haven't tried out two player mode yet, but I don't think the monitor is required for the exercises, just recommended, so no need to pick up a second one if the person you play with isn't super into it. I will probably let my fiancée wear it if she wants to when we work out together because it just isn't that important to me.

The exercise accuracy tracking with Kinect is a little sketchy. Sometimes the machine just has no idea what I am doing, especially when squatting. I'm willing to put part of the blame on myself, I have only had the game for an evening, so I am not in good enough shape to squat as low as it wants me to. I also had pajama pants on rather than my usual workout shorts. I recommend wearing shorts; I think it will help a lot. The accuracy also seems a little off when jogging in place. It really wants you to power jog and whip those arms back and forth to burn more calories. I think it uses the arm movement as a way to judge if you are actually running. Sometimes you really have to exaggerate your movement to get it to pick up that you're actually running in place quite fast. I'm willing to give the machine the benefit of the doubt. Next time I will be wearing shorts and after a few more weeks I should be able to squat lower, so I will try to update this after that. I feel the trade off in accuracy is totally worth not having to flail around with the Wiimotes though. I am hoping now that Microsoft has sold over a million of these things they use the data gathered to release a patch that improves accuracy across the board.

Load time. It seems to take an awful lot of time to load in between the workouts. I am going to install the game to the Xbox HDD, and I think it will eliminate that problem. To be honest, I needed the extra 30 seconds of rest time tonight, but listening to the Xbox wind up like a jet engine between every workout is a pretty scary thing to witness.

I wished the game allowed you to use the voice navigation for personal music selection using music streamed over a network or mp3s that are stored on the Xbox HDD. Rocking out to my own tunes or a podcast while working out would be pretty amazing to me. There is nothing to stop you from putting the ingame music volume to mute and using the Xbox guide button on a remote to get a playlist going though.

That's all I have to say for now. After a couple of weeks I will try to post more thoughts. I played on medium tonight and will be turning it down to easy next time. I am not overweight, just out of shape. The heart rate monitor needs a panic button for out of shape bozos like myself. :) And the only reason I gave it three out of five stars for "fun" is because exercise will never be fun to me.

Honest reviews on EA Sports Active 2 - Xbox 360

I have been using Active 2 for Kinect for 3 weeks and have completed 5 workouts in the 9 week program. I used the original Active for the Nintendo Wii a couple times a month for about a year.

Here's what you need to know if you are considering getting Active 2: it can be frustrating at first but it is a great way to get a workout if you STAY PATIENT and TWEAK YOUR SETTINGS and MAKE SURE YOU HAVE ENOUGH PLAY SPACE. Kinect seems like a great product to me, but it is a bit touchy and oversensitive, also most of the games out for it so far don't really use it as well as they could, Active 2 included.

Before you even think about getting this game check out your play space. First make sure your Kinect sensor can "see" the floor( it cannot be pushed back into a deep shelf on an entertainment center for example). Then make sure Kinect is at least 4 feet off the ground, and has at least 8 feet of clear space in front of it. These are the minimum requirements for Kinect to function. If you have nowhere that you can get the Kinect 4 feet up, 8 feet out, and able to point at the floor you should stop reading right now and get a Wii or a Playstation Move. These are the absolute minimum requirements for Kinect to function and if you don't have the space, don't waste your money.

Once you have your play space cleared, get it as bright in the room as possible. Open shades and turn on lights. Then run the Kinect calibration program.

If you have the play space and have your Kinect working right, there are 2 things you need to know to avoid the extreme frustration that Active 2 can cause.

First, TURN OFF THE VOICE COMMANDS. They cause the "show me how" tutorial videos to play over and over in the middle of your workout when you don't say a word but somehow Kinect goes deaf when you actually want to use them. Would be a good idea if they worked but they are worthless and you are better off forgetting they exist.

Second, STAY STILL IN THE MIDDLE OF THE PLAY SPACE BETWEEN WORKOUTS AND ON ALL FLOOR EXERCISES. The floor exercises can be the most annoying, horrifying exercise in frustration you have ever experienced. If you don't let Kinect keep track of you before you sit down it will constantly freeze and make you press A to re-connect. Stay standing still directly in front of the camera on the pushups, crunches, arm planks, etc until you see "sit down and face the sensor" on the screen.

If you do both of these things Active 2 will work the way it was intended to about 95% of the time and it will kick your butt, make you sweat, and generally give you a solid workout.

Two player Active 2it kinda works....but.....

Two players works very well on some exercises, especially the running and mountain biking. The floor exercises are completely broken with 2 players. My husband and I could not get the game to stop freezing on 2 player crunches no matter what we tried, the sensor would lose track of the right hand player and freeze immediately whenever we started to sit down. Jumps can get dangerouswe collided painfully on the side to side jumps trying to stay within the play space. There are also many exercises that cannot be played with 2 players and the game will remove them from the workout when 2 players are selected, cutting down your workout time and potential calories to be burned. Two player mountain bike racing or sprints would be fun as a party mini-game. It would also probably work as a serious workout if you create a custom one to eliminate floor and jumping exercises.

The heart rate monitor that comes with Active 2 is simple and works perfectly but isn't really required, it should be optional because it makes the game come in at a pricey $100.

The ability to make your character appear on the screen with free weights instead of the resistance band is nice, it doesn't really change any of the exercises and nothing was preventing you from ditching the band in favor of the weights before. It is still a nice touch though.

Overall, if you have an Xbox, you are planning to use Kinect for more than just Active 2, and you have the right amount of space and a little patience I would recommend this game for a good workout. Because of the small but frustrating glitches and the price tag, I would not buy an Xbox and a Kinect just to play Active 2, it is just too expensive.

As many have pointed out the pros and cons of this game, I would like to just give some feedback on what I've discovered with the Kinect version in the last 3 weeks of using it. To know what kind of exercises you can expect and the programs connected with it, read the other reviews as they are fairly adequate in their explanations. On some of the game's current shortcomings I just want to add a few pointers below:

SPACE

EA Sports Active needs more backwards space. This is probably the biggest shortcoming of most Kinect games at the moment, and that is that the space to the sides (as you face the sensor) is usually enough, but you need more space at the back. For EA Sports Active to start working 'properly', make sure you have sufficient back space.

RECOGNITION

The game will by times 'forget' who you are. This is rather silly, as you sign in with an idea and therefore should be the still the same person throughout the game. However, whenever the sensor loses you the game goes into re-identifying you. This is a hassle, and you will need patience to accept it as one of its shortcomings at the moment.

Again, stand back. I found that when I'm too close to the sensor it'll lose me -so stand back.

Also, between workouts, be ready to face the camera again at the beginning of each session. If you turn at those points to drink water or shuffle the cat away, it will go into the re-identifying mode again.

When this happens, stand back again in your space and wait. It may say for a few seconds that it cannot find you and that you are now a VISITOR, but just stand patiently and hopefully it'll find you. So far, it has always found me within a few seconds.

CONTROLLER

As mentioned, this game has been clearly designed for the Wii, and then when they found out that PS3 and Xbox will release the Move and Kinect respectively, they quickly transformed it for these consoles. For PS3 Move it'll work, but the problem is that the menus and not entirely Kinect-friendly. Make sure your Xbox controller is nearby at all times, as you will need to hit that green A button frequently to progress through tutorials and other menus. Don't fret over it, that's just the way it is for now. I am positive that EA sports Active will make adjustments for Kinect in the future, but that will only be expected by the 3rd release.

LYING-DOWN EXERCISES

When an exercise comes up that needs you to lie down, DON'T just lie down. Wait until it prompts you to do so, and only then lie down. For some reason Kinect searches for your face first, and when you go lie down it loses you and then goes into re-identifying mode again. You'll have to stand up again and do the whole thing again.

So keep standing, wait, and let the game tell you to go down and then do it. It should save you some time on the identifying hassle.

Then, while lying down...(see below)

LIGHTNING vs FLOOR EXERCISES

Before Kinect was released, I had read that some developers had problems with Kinect in that it couldn't recognize people when sitting or lying down. It was mentioned that some of these developers found other unique ways of overcoming this problem by analyzing the shadows of your body. Knowing this, I can safely assume that EA had this problem when they designed the Kinect version of Sports Active 2. So what I did was to ensure that I had some kind of "shadow" while doing lying-down exercises by having my nearby lamp shine on me from the side. Sounds weird, eh? But so far no problems with lying-down exercises.

Once you accept these shortcomings for this product, things tend to go smoother. From the reviews I had read beforehand I had expected something horrendous, but turns out my workouts had been going pretty smoothly for the last few weeks. As I am not much of a fitness geek (and that's exactly why I got this) I cannot give feedback on the contents and structure of the training, thus restricting my review to the technical issues clouding this game at the moment.

On the positive side: other games have proven that Kinect CAN track well and that menus CAN be designed intelligently to accommodate Kinect. It's now up to EA to ensure that future releases are designed around Kinect, and not Kinect adapted around their Wii/PS3 Move interfaces. Given then that this is their first try with Kinect I'll give them a 4-star rating, but if they cannot improve these shortcomings by the 3rd release of Sports Active, I'll definitely only rate it a 3-star show.

Finally. This game is doing more for me that Your Shape Fitness Evolved. There is more variety here than in Your Shape. The menus run quicker too. Though Your Shape is still a good beginner's experience for now (as we hope future releases will be broader), I'd say if you were to chose between the two then go for EA Sports Active 2...even with the higher price tag.

Many games based on movies are just bad. For example, the game of Tarzan for psx [stunk] big time, or the Emperor's New Groove, or the Fifth Element. When i heard of Harry Potter coming out for the psx, i tought it was going to be as bad as any game based on a movie. I was a bit wrong. This game is very fun...while it lasts! Check out the good and bad things about it below:

The Good Things:

-Somethings are based on the book

-The characters are just the same as in the movie

-Hogwarts is huge, there is plenty to explore

-You assist all classes including the quidditch practice

-You fight against Voldermort and Quirell

-The magic spells are amazing: Incendio, Alohamora, Wigardium Leviosa, etc.

The Bad Things:

-There are too many things that are not in the book

-Harry Potter doesn't talk

-The conversations between characters are briefly

-The battle against Voldemort is quite pathetic

-The end is very bad

-Many things are briefly described by the narrator in a book

-The forbidden forest is not scary

-Voldemort appears frequently using a green magic

-All the magic used by Harry is basically following the order of bottoms. Example: Press X then O and finally X again: very simple

-Very short and easy

Overall, the game is a worth buying game for any Harry Potter fan.

I recieved this game about four days ago. I opened the package and began playing it for about three hours. After that time I was about 40% done with the game. The next day, I played a total of three hours, and I was about 75% done. On the third day I played about two hours and completed it. Do you catch my drift?

Now, I would classify myself as a very experienced gamer and have played a number of very difficult games. I would classify this as the easiest game I have ever played on the Playstation console(next to Ridge Racer). I will give it credit, however, the castle and the surrounding area was very well designed, the interactions with other characters is very good, and the levels are fun and interesting.

If you parents are looking for a good game for your 7-12 year old, I would suggest this game. If you are looking to buy for 13+, I would continue my search elsewhere. Overall, this was a very fun and interesting game, but it wasn't very challenging.

I played a short demo of this game at E3, and it's a 3-D action-adventure game with its setting in Hogwarts. You enter different classrooms to learn spells, then put those spells to use to solve puzzles. I didn't see what Quidditch looks like, but it'll be in there, too. One of the developers told me the PS version has about 10 times the content of the PC version, since the latter is intended for a younger audience. The Game boy and GBA versions are also completely different games, so that should be interesting.

Honest reviews on Harry Potter & the Sorcerer's Stone

That's what I kept telling my 7-year-old ... "your turn in just one more minute!" Very good game! Downright addicting. Like it very much, at least the 50% that I've played (in our house we rent before we buy). I especially liked the graphics, very creepy! Voices are really good too. One rather irritating thing about the game was that the choices given were small ... actually there was only one choice. Only one way, one path through the game and if you can't complete the task at hand, you are stuck. And if your 7-year-old doesn't have a grown-up nearby to help and get them "unstuck", this game can frustrate him! Sometimes frustrated me! But that goes with the nature of any game ... if it was too easy, it wouldn't be any fun!

I noticed in a previous review that someone complained about the directional flying controls. I noticed the same thing, that they were reversed and it made Quidditch darn near impossible to do. Easy fix: go to control options! There's a category for "flying controls" with "normal" and "reverse" options. Makes playing whole lot easier.

You play Harry Potter beginning his first year at Hogwarts. There is a great deal of exploring to do and its quite fun. There is the huge castle called Hogwarts, the castle grounds and Diagon Alley. The game often bends the storyline of the book. E.X. In the game Hagrid's pet dragon Norbert gets sick, in the book he does not. Also, there is plenty characters to talk to. There is Fred and George, Ron, Hermione, Hagrid, Malfoy, Snape and others. The controls are comfortable for both children and adults alike. You can also learn differant spells.

Gameplay: 7.6 Good

Control: 8.5 Great

Sound: 7.0 Good

Graphics: 5.O Not good...

Overall: 7.7 Good game

Comments: Pretty Good, you should have fun playing this game!!

The animations are great. The characters are original and fun. It probably helps if you also like anime, but the stages and characters are beautifully put together. The fighting system is fun and a little different from Street Fighter or King of Fighters. Overall, I'm really impressed with it. Especially for the price. It feels very similar to Persona 4: Arena, but after playing the two pretty extensively I'd have to say this one takes the cake.

PlayStation 2 Game Screen Reviews

If you have a job like mine, just sitting on your "tush" and watching cars come and go, then this product is a must!

I was planning to buy a portable DVD player to watch movies and make time go by faster at work, when the light bulb turned on in my head. I said to myself, "Why pay $400 for a portable DVD player, when I have a perfect PS2 at home that plays DVD's. I can save me $300 by getting this Game Screen instead."

So I bought the Game Screen. I took it to work, and "wha-la", worked like a charm. It was fast and easy to hook up, and just as fast and easy to put away. The video was nice and clear with plenty of color resolution. As for the sound, well...it has sound, and does the job of providing it, just don't expect Dolby Digital or anything fancy like that.

As for playing video games. I played NCAA 2003 Football, which took a while for my eyes to adjust to the small players and tiny ball. DVD movies are much better to watch. Another thing that was helpful was that I also purchased a "PS2 DVD Remote Control", which made watching DVD's easier at the touch of a button.

I am very pleased with my new "toy" addition to my PS2.

I bought this monitor more for the ability to watch DVDs on the road than the ability to play video games. The device slides easily onto the PS2 casing and doesn't show any signs of slipping off so far. The sound from the stereo speakers (and the convenient headphone jack) is loud and clear. The monitor itself can be turned off with the speakers left on, which I think is a good idea.

The main drawback is that the screen's brightness control doesn't go as bright as you could want or need. Normally-bright games like "Spyro the Dragon" or "Ico" are very playable. Games with a darker color scheme (like "Metal Gear Solid 2," "Resident Evil" or "Silent Hill") are going to much harder to make out if not impossible.

The slim power converter shown on the box is not the anaconda-choking-on-a-rabbit monstrosity actually packaged inside, but what's an extra pound of weight? Also, take a piece of gaffer's tape and cover up the bright blue light on the front of the monitor; it's very distracting.

Again, a great idea for portable movies. A dubious one for serious gaming.

I took the advice from A Gamer in Grand Rapids, MI and located the 5 inch screen version. I can't compare since I've never used the 5.6 inch version but I can say the 5 inch version is an excellent product. There is now a 5.4 inch version available and I have to wonder if it is shoddy like the 5.6 or good like the 5.0.

Regardless, if you want a self contained screen and sound system that will stay attached to the PS2 unit this is pretty much your only choice. I found that darker games can be viewed better by turning the brightness way up and tilting the screen away from me slightly to improve the brightness. The contrast, screen speed and sound quality of the unit is outstanding. The sound is even more impressive when using headphones. I've had no trouble playing sports games or action games in which some of the screen objects are quite small.

It would be nice to have a battery pack and car adapter for this set up but if and when I need such a device I'll put something together. As is, this makes my PS2 a great lunchtime diversion tool at work.

Honest reviews on PlayStation 2 Game Screen

This screen is so sweet i never thought i would be able to watch movies in the car! All you need to do to hook it up to your car is go to like Radio Shack and pick up a power inverter so u can plug your PS2 and screen into it. Anyway...I got a 5.4 inch screen DO NOT GET THIS KIND.They get distorted and get lines across it,so I exchanged it for a regular 5 inch screen. So now this works awesome. It is better to watch movies then play games on it.Great for the car!

It's pretty cool! Great sound and picture. Don't listin to anyone else, the brightness is fine. It comes with the A/C power pac, A/V cable, and 2 way A/V cable. It has an Svideo input. Only thing is.... I can't get my Monster S-video cable, Left/right audio to fit.... got to be able to fit in insted of out. :/ It's alright tho. :) You plug and play! It's tight! It's light too! :> stays on the ps2 nicely! :> I like it and I know you will too!...
