If there is one genre in which the Xbox 360 is starved of, it would be platforming games. De Blob 2 offers a fun, colorful, and cheery adventure similar to something you would see in a 3-D Mario game. Where most platforming games have you perform simple missions and quests, de Blob 2 integrates this formula with its genuine painting mechanics. Almost everything in the world can be painted with a wide variety of colors, from basic primary colors to more complex mixtures. As you paint and complete challenges, the world around you changes, from its music to the overall mood of the level. The game is designed so that both casual and hardcore gamers can enjoy the experience. Difficulties can be adjusted, optional challenges and collectibles can be sought after, and Pinky, Blob's companion, can enter the game at any time for 2 player blobbing. With 12 worlds, dozens of side scrolling levels, and cooperative/competitive multiplayer action, de Blob 2 is a must have for Xbox 360 owners.

What you won't find in De Blob 2: Firefights. Space monsters. Guns. Gangsters. What you will find: hours of brightly-colored fun.
This game is the polar opposite of COD, Gears, Dead Space, GTA, and most anything else in the popular action genre. But that's a good thingit's a great change of pace from that side of the video game universe. It's a fun, surreal, dare I say... cute game that has kept my attention for hours.
The plot in a nutshellit picks up where De Blob 1 left off, and Comrade Black has moved on to this world, eliminating all color, causing a drab, gray, boring society of oppressed citizens. The hero (De Blob) has the ability to soak up paint into himself and lay it onto buildings and the land itself. Levels start as drab gray areas, but as you navigate them, painting your way through goals to complete the level, the music starts to come in. A couple notes trickle in at first, more color brings richer music, and by the time you've painted the whole area, it's a catchy, jazzy soundtrack that doesn't get repetitive or annoying. There's plenty of other power-ups as you go on, but this is the meat of the game, adding color to the world and bringing it back to life.
The only downside I've yet to find is that you can't save it on command, so if you start a level, be ready to finish the bulk of it (20-30 minutes) until you reach the point where you can upgrade Blob, or else you'll have to (and probably enjoy it all over again) start at the beginning. Controls are accurate, easy to get the hang of, and it's an easy game to play... maybe just a little too easy, but like I said, it's supposed to be fun. You aren't saving the Earth from space zombies, defending a military base or running from the mafia. The story is simple, more than a little predictable, but fun to follow. Except for a few images such as a Raydian (the residents of this world) being "baptized" into becoming a Blanc by being pushed into a pool of black ink that envelops him that a parent might have to explain, this would be a great game for young kids as well.
My gaming tastes usually run in the racing sim/sports genres, but since the first time I played De Blob 2, this game has held my attention and had me anxiously waiting to get out of work to go home and play more.

De Blob 2 is a welcome breath of fresh air for 360 owners looking to play something bright and cheery in between their "serious" FPS, RPG or action game sessions. You control the titular Blob throughout the game, whose job it is to soak up paint into his spherical body and bring color back to Prisma City, after the nefarious dictator Comrade Black forced his monochromatic regime on the helpless people. Each of the twelve levels are quite large and open environments with numerous goals to accomplish. Additionally, interspersed here and there are more traditional side scrolling areas for you to explore, paint and hop on baddies. As you might expect, very little on the way will cause seasoned gamers undue stress, as the difficulty is set exceptionally low. Nonetheless, I had a blast exploring the stages at a relaxed pace, attempting to find all of the collectibles and complete side quests. The presentation for the game is without a doubt charming, featuring a simple but colorful art style (once you actually begin coloring the stages), funny characters and a playful, catchy musical score that actually adapts to your gameplay actions on the fly (very, very cool if you pay attention). Additionally, before each stage is a high quality animated short, which not only moves the paper thin story forward, but adds a great deal of humor and contains visuals not far off from Pixar standards.
While I enjoyed almost all of my time with the game, there were a few minor annoying bits to be found. As is common with the 3-D platformer, I found the camera occasionally uncooperative. More frustrating was the difficulty in targeting a specific enemy or object, especially when the action got a bit crowded or the camera wasn't placed precisely where the game wanted it to be. Still, neither of these issues popped up on a regular basis, and most of the game felt polished and well designed.
So, whether you're an adult gamer looking for a slightly different experience on 360, or searching for a game which can be enjoyed by the entire family, I highly recommend de Blob 2.
