I bought this as a secondary mic to complement the mic I received with Rock Band 2. This is nowhere near as good. This microphone is lightweight and feels much cheaper, plus the cord is several feet shorter. And unlike the RB2 mic, you can't hear yourself in the game at all (yes, I adjusted the volume settings in game).

This was a general disappointment and I would recommend finding an older mic instead.

Decent microphone, performs better than almost any other microphone we have purchased for our Rock Band games, this is our fourth microphone, the only quibble we have is with the short wire length of only 9.8' and the weight of the microphone, it is very light and I assume very fragile.

Outside of that the microphone performs rather well for now, I will update if microphone breaks down after a few weeks.

This is a very lightweight mic but it is very responsive. It does work very well in the game. The one drawback is that the cord is too short (9 ft.). Others may feel it is cheap or cheesey but do not be fooled Madcatz actually did a good job on this one.

Honest reviews on Rock Band 3 Microphone for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3

This microphone by Madcatz works well minus the length of the microphone cord (which is only 9.8 feet long), the cord is considerably shorter than your RB1 or RB2 factory mics that came with your Rock Band set. But I found a solution for that, I bought a 6ft usb extension cable by mediabridgeMediabridge Hi-Speed USB 2.0 Extension Cable A-Male to A-Female 6ft and it definitely helped the issue with cord length. The manual of this microphone says to not connect a usb extension cable directly to mic but forget that, go with what works and that extension cable works for me! Other things I like to point out is that the microphone is very light in weight and that it seems to be oversensitive as well, what I mean is that any sound that it picks up and it does pickup sounds much easier than your factory RB1 or RB2 mics. This mic by Madcatz will result to deploying overdrive instantly when it's available because of its sensitivity. I like to turn the volume up a bit loud when I play the game(RB3) so I can hear the music and my vocals at the same time and the sensitivity of this mic seems to drive overdrive super easy, works well for fast paced lyrics where you don't have much buffer room to execute overdrive but this mic will kick it in for you if you don't care about timing and scoring too much while singing with overdrive. Unlike previous Rock Band games, RB3 doesn't have an adjustment with mic sensitivity, this could be an issue with some folks. With that in mind, some songs I do sing better with this mic as opposed to other mics (because of the high to low pitch sounds it can detect while you sing, probably because of the oversensitivity I mentioned), but I think this mic is better used as a backup mic incase your other mics blowout and the amazon.com price here seems a bit pricey and should be listed at a retail of $29.99 or less. For various reasons, I give this mic a 3.5 out of 5 overall rating.
