This review will be based heavily from Ninja Storm 2.

I have just about finished the game. I just finished the final battle excluding the fragment chapter.

As others have said, the game starts out very exciting and takes you all the way back to the 9 tails attack on konoha with an exciting battle between with minato and sarutobi. Again, as others have stated its mostly downhill from there. Some of the key battles are short and just not very prominent in the game as they were in the series. For example, the sasuke, danzo fight. Even the Sasuke Naruto fight. Outside of that I was slightly dissappointed at how much of the game is made up of cut scenes. It makes sense being that there is a lot of story to cover in such a short game but there is a LOT of cutscenes. I'm up to date on the naruto anime, and this is like rewatching every episode in a shortened form. I bought the game so that I could play the series not watch it again. Be prepared for 6 back to back scenes. Back to the high note. The playable character list is awesome, almost everybody will find their favorite character added to the roster. Yes there were a few big ones left out but I dont find that to be that bothersome. Personally I've been waiting for Haku to come into a game. Along with Zabuza and its just awesome. Really excited to get into free battles and online battles just to play as them. But back to the low notes, Ninja storm 2 was a fairly awesome game and the achievement/Trophy system really helped because it gave you a lot of extra things to do in the game that would otherwise be pushed aside. In Ninja Storm 3 the achievement/trophy system seems partially ignored. In the second game it required you to gain all titles, make and buy all ninja tools, win X amount of online battles, and have every food option available. In this game that has all been forgotten and just about every achievement is handed to you except S ranking the boss battles. Granted, I do not need achievements to convince me to 100% the game but its a plus. One other aspect from Ninja Storm 2 that helps the game is that they seperated the block and substitute function. Now you have a seperate substitute gauge that goes on cooldown. This means that you can only substitute so many times in a given time period. This means that you will no longer find online battles with people spamming block to substitute every attack. As far as camera angles, its a small annoyance and is very similar if not the same as the second game. Also, there is a new combat style within the storyline which is more of an open movement combat like kingdom hearts where you take on multiple enemies at once. Though frustrating, was a nice change of pace. Also there is a ring out style added. I have not gotten a ring out on any opponents maybe because I just didn't or did not play a gametype where you can get ringouts. I have no comments towards them just yet.

Pros: Roster, dedicated substitution button, interesting/up to date storyline(anime), open roam fighting.

Cons: Lack of real achievements, key battles weren't so exciting, too many cutscenes, exact same basic combo system.

Neutral: Camera angles

Overall I was hoping for a game just like the second with a larger roster and its not what I got. This is still a great game and worth a purchase but maybe after a price drop. If I could compare the 2 games in one sentence Id say you get more story and less game.

P.S play in japanese with english subtitles for a much better experience. Its just like watching the anime. English voice actors are very annoying in the Naruto series.

**Edit**

After completing the game(excluding fragments, I see that there is much more to do. You will still need to complete the "ninja world timeline" Which allows you to play through battles even before the shippuden series. (I just finished Haku and Zabuza's battle and it was awesome, but it was only a regular battle.

Also one thing I forgot to add is that if one of your support characters gets hit by an enemy ultimate jutsu, he gets knocked out of the fight completely.

New thoughts: Worth the money I shelled out.

I'm basing this review off of beating the main story, a couple hundred online matches and also several hours in the `post campaign' of the game. So I have indeed spent a lot of time playing this game.

The game is, in my opinion, undoubtedly the best of the three Namco Bandai Storm games available on the Xbox 360. That said, to be frank, the bar set by Storm 2 and Generations wasn't too high to begin with but Storm 3 merits a look if you enjoyed the previous games.

The Main story mode is a bit of an anomaly as far as adventure games I've played before goes. In the interest of staying true to the anime/manga, the story mode has almost no exploration at all until you `beat the game.' That is to say, there's about zero side quests and such until after the final battle and credits are done.

The main quest is full of QTE's and normal combat but also add in mob battles and some battles against large scale enemies such as the nine tails and other tailed beasts. The QTE's are basically what you would expect them to be, nothing special, and the mob battles, although a welcome addition, are also pretty mediocre and easy. The special battles that are neither QTE's or normal combat are pretty neat but they can be frustrating since AI pattern's and the perspective can be unclear as to what should or shouldn't be harming you or how exactly you are supposed to avoid harm. Also, these special battles seem to get worse over the course of the game, meaning that the designers or whoever just didn't put in the same effort in the last battles as they did in the first. The first battle against the nine tails for instance stands alone amongst many other battles where repeated attack animations and lazy design make them tedious.

After the game comes the usual nonsense you might remember from Storm 2 where you go around pre-rendered areas to fulfill asinine `quests' for characters and collecting random items on the ground or in vases. It's not particularly interesting but there's plenty to be done if you feel like messing around and exploring. There's also some `cute' dialogue between characters, plenty of `ultimate decisions' and you can replay battles from the main story, as well as past battles in the Naruto canon. More importantly there is a very significant amount of things to collect varying from the info card images, titles, videos, substitution items, and some new stuff like audio clips and being able to use characters in post campaign battles that, logically speaking, you shouldn't be able to, such as Akatsuki members, etc.

Online the game has quite a few new bells and whistles. Most of them are hardly anything that great or really inspired, but it's definitely superior to previous games.

Which brings me to the meat and potatoes of this game: combat. Many of the staple characters from past games have been tweaked and are more balanced, but many of the newer characters are really all over the place, with many of them being ridiculously over powered in terms of attack range and awakening abilities. As much as I want to use Tenten or goofball Tobi (and I really do), they are in over their head if they are facing any Jinchuriki or most Reanimation characters. The combat mechanics have been tweaked, definitely for the better, but it only makes you think that this is what they should have delivered a game ago in Generations rather than being actual progress. Some big differences are that ninja items can no longer be used while blocking, characters have less combo variety (usually only three instead of the four they had in Generations) and ring outs are possible but honestly in the hundred or some battles I've fought, I've only ever seen it happen once, so it's pretty much a non-factor in most battles. Some characters can 'instant awaken' too which gives them access to other special attacks. They help out some of the weaker characters stand their ground but they also buff up some already tough characters...so it's a mixed blessing.

Besides that there have been some cosmetic updates to combat as well. There are blood splatters from sword and other weapon attacks and finishing an opponent with a ultimate or team ultimate jutsu gives you a screenshot and a quote from your character as they do the move. Nothing to write home about but the extra effort is appreciated.

So I recommend this game for any fan of the previous Storm games or Naruto fan who's looking for the most bang for their buck. As a game in general, it's mediocre at best and if you don't know your Nine Tails from your Mangekyo Sharingans, this game is probably about as much fun as watching the commercials before a youtube video. It can get tedious fast if you're not enjoying watching your favorite characters.

Pretty damn awesome. Alot of the fighting features are derived from the previous naruto games such as ninja generations but its still pretty good. The story mode is cutting edge.....especially the interactive cut scenes.

PROS: All tailed beasts are available to do damage. Madara and Tobi both are both available as well as nagato which is pretty badass. The new characters alone with the extremely touching story mode makes it worth getting for shippuden FANS

CONS: If your not a fan of naruto and dont already know the story for the most part then your gonna get lost and confused in a few aspects. Ive only played the game for two days but so far i see no sign of being able to use the 7 swordsmen of the mist apart from zabuza as well as the brothers from the hidden cloud that had the nine tails flower and got stored in the pot......................those are amazing characters to have and yet we dont.................

OVERALL: I like the game alot.....but im also a naruto fan.........word of advice........if your trying to play this without even being a naruto fan then prepared to be confused a bit since ur not familiar with the character development that this game has decided to use
