On to the review, I really liked the Gamecube version. The game had endurance in it, still play it. Super Slugger doesn't. The Wii-ness of the game is simple, but fulfilling enough. Throwing, running, batting are well done. I should say base running takes some time to get used to. Their choice of how to control base runners is logical, however, not necessarily how you will be used to controlling base runners. Also in Toy Field, playing aggressively is a little different as well.. not as logical. You need to press B to hit a person. In other games a simple nunchuck shake would do that. Don't know why they went that route.
The big disappointment from a single player perspective is the Challenge portion of the game. The "Challenge" portion of the game is quite juvenile and lacks any desire to continue on with it, once beaten (and it is real easy to beat). The Challenge seems more interested in training you into how to play the game (they already have well done tutorials) than for you to actually play a game. You only play Bowser's and Bowser Jr's team, instead of a bunch of teams as with the Gamecube game. You run around, do remedial tasks and even a little puzzle solving in order to make your team grow instead of earning players as per the Gamecube version.
The Mini-games play well. Some changes from the old Gamecube version mini-games help make this game familiar, but unique. Toy Field is rebuilt and different (would have been nice to have the classic Toy Field as well), but certainly fun. You can play with teams of 2 if you like. The game play in Toy Field is much more straight forward than in the Baseball game itself.
Sadly, the big trouble with the game is the multi-player and fielding control. The game becomes very frustrating when it comes to controlling your fielders, both in single and especially in multi-player mode. In single-player, sometimes the wrong player is selected to get an in-field hit. For instance take a hit between 1st and 2nd, the game will have you controlling the 1st baseman, making an out much more difficult than quickly running the 2nd baseman to get the ball and throw. Another situation would be a hit that an in-fielder could dive and grab, but the game has given you control of the outfielder! By the time you know who you have control of, it may be too late to get the out.
In multi-player, you can field at the same time, but what team member is being controlled by what player is almost impossible to know from the beginning, making tough fielding plays very difficult.
To conclude, the game could have been much better. The single player draw is very limited. The game will only remain fun as a multi-player game. And playing a game between two people, instead of sharing the same team, can be and is fun. The mini-games are fun, as is Toy Field. Ultimately, you may find the fielding too frustrating. As I said earlier, rent this one first and get a good feel for the game. I feel that the Gamecube version, while less Wii-ish, is much more fun and less frustrating to play over the long-term.

This is a great game.I played the Gamecube version for a long time and have been really looking forward to this one. It did not disappoint. Similar to the previous version, but with enough differences to make it it's own game.
The main part of the game is very Mario Party like with a twist. A lot of the mini games being short baseball challenges. So if you like the Mario Party games this is a good one for you even if you don't like baseball.
The controls take a little bit to get used to and like with the other motion control games before it, sometime you get the controller reading a motion you did not make like swinging too early. But nothing you can't get used to.

I was waiting until the price went down and just bought Mario Sluggers. It is a really fun game. If it had online I would have given it 5 stars. The controls work well and there are lots of options. It's a great game for adult child interaction. It can get a little boring in single player mode (that is why online would have made it 5 stars). A good deal at $37. -If you want a deep baseball game with classic controls and RPG elements get MLB Power Pros, this also has Mii support and Wii motion controls for exhibition (this is good if you want your Mii's playing in MLB ballparks)
-If you want arcade, over the top baseball with real players get The Bigs (controls are a little hard to figure out)
-If you want arcade baseball, with good controls and crazy extras get Mario Sluggers

It has been nearly a year, and there have been so many games developed with Mario for the Wii that have worked their magic very well into Nintendo Wii gamers' hearts. With the massive success of Super Mario Galaxy from last year, that showed Mario is still an even bigger platforming adventure hero, and earlier this year with both Mario Kart Wii and the mammoth fighting styles of Super Smash Brothers Brawl, Mario mania has really delivered top to bottom. But, with so many Mario games, Nintendo has shown Mario well with sports titles here, just like they did for the Gamecube and Nintendo DS, and it is now time for Mario again to say batter up!!!Mario Super Sluggers for the Nintendo Wii, brings in the well-rounded success that showed with Mario Superstar Baseball from the Gamecube on the Wii. This time around, it is a bit more exciting, as you play with your favorite Mario characters past and present to a baseball universe that is exciting and brings in the home run. In the game, there are many modes to master, including the all-new challenge mode, which expands well from the Gamecube original, where you can unlock all your favorite characters, as well as brand new stadiums to master you home runs including the all new-expanded Toy Field, the delightful Yoshi Park, which Yoshi made in the style of a cute amusement park, and the nightlife of casinos and Las Vegas at the new Wario City stadium.
The graphics for the game are very well-rendered within each one of the levels, and provides a new level of challenges and moves to master, including the all-new buddy jump, where you control the outfielders in the game by making a special over the top leap that can even rob the most powerful hitters a high-flying home run. The control is also simple and easy to master, even for those who've never played the original. You can easily with a flick of the Wii-mote, you can throw a curve ball, or hit the ball into the stands. There is though one big disadvantage with Mario Super Sluggers. Unlike the previous Mario sports titles like Mario Kart Wii and the soccer-style action of 2007's Mario Strikers Charged, you don't have the option of playing against other wannabe all-stars online. That alone is a big surprise that misses the mark in action.
Despite that one big problem with the multiplayer action, Mario Super Sluggers is a game that will really bring in the fun for anyone who is not just a fan of baseball games, but for anyone who is new to baseball action. While the game expands well from the Gamecube, it isn't a complete grand slam, but does bring in a few nice walk-off runs to the warp pipe. With only a couple of baseball titles made for the Wii, this is definitely one of the best, and a nice addition to your Wii library.

We are happy to have purchased this game for our son, who is 5.He has so much fun playing Mario Super Sluggers that even new games that we've purchased after it didn't make him that excited.
The graphics are gorgeous and all the characters are there. Their different personalities will change the way you use them during the games.
It makes baseball understanding easy for the little ones and yes, they don't sit to play! Lots of batting and pitching, fun mini-games.
The music could be better though... It can be annoying after a while if you are not playing.
It's definitely a great item to be in one's Christmas' list! Kudos to Nintendo for another great one!
