This game is great.. If your looking for a family friendly "shooter", this is it. And being around $30, it's not to hard on the wallet. It comes with 4 pairs of 3D glasses, so even if you just watching the game being played, you can still take part in the fun. There is also a 2D option, if the glasses give you eye strain. I played the 3D option for a while, and it never really bothered me. Now as far as the 3D features go, it's impressive. Not a HUGE feature, but the 3D element is there. Each level takes you into an environment that resembles most action flicks that we all have seen at one point. The movement through the level is pre-determined, so all you have to do is point the Wii remote, and fire. Really simple. But it's still a challenging game.. The musical score is great, and it really draws you into the game. My wife sat and watched me play for a while, and even she was impressed with the game play. Overall, a great game for extended play, or great to play in small doses..

One of the great things about videogames today is the incredible depth, detail and complexity that they feature. Some games are so open-ended that you can go anywhere and do almost anything. But on the flipside, there's something to be said for not having to spend an hour reading an instruction manual or spending the first few hours of a game in a tutorial mode, learning the game's controls and features. Sometimes you just want to plug in and start blasting away and that's where a game like Attack of the Movies 3-D from Majesco comes in. This game shies away from complexity the way the Chicago Cubs shy away from winning baseball games.

Attack of the Movies 3-D is a fond throwback to arcade games like Area 51 and House of the Dead. It's a first person shooter where you go along for the ride as the camera whisks you along through various environments. The only thing you need to do is blast away at the enemies. It can't get simpler than that! The game's six levels are comprised of takes on various well-known films. Level one is an attack by giant insects, harkening back to the days of sci-fi films like "Them!" There's an Indiana Jones style level that takes you through an Aztec-style temple; a Terminator-style level where you battle various robots and robotic weapons; and a haunted house level where you face off against hordes of skeletons, mummies, and bats. Each level concludes with a boss battle.

The game is playable in either standard 2-D or 3-D modes. For 3-D it comes with four pairs of those old red and blue tinted glasses but as is the case of 3-D movies of this type, the effects are mixed at best. Add to that the fact that wearing those glasses for long will almost guarantee a migraine and you're best served by going with the 2-D version. The game can be played with one to four players cooperatively however, in a shortsighted development blunder, all the players share the same health bar so when one's dead, you're all dead. I suppose this is to make up for the relative ease of the game. Playing on the Easy difficulty setting the first time around, I was able to finish all six levels in about an hour. Obviously replay value is almost nonexistent.

In each level you'll blast not only monsters but also various power-ups that increase the fire rate of your weapon, score multipliers, as well as health icons and 1-ups. Even though your weapons may change (slightly) in each level, they are essentially the same in that there are single fire, 3 burst fire, and fully automatic rapid-fire, whether you're using a regular weapon or a futuristic laser gun. You can use your Wii zapper if you have one but it's not necessary.

While the six levels all offer a diversity of enemies and designs they are fundamentally the same. The player has no control over where to go. The only actions you'll take are firing your fun and then shaking the Wii controller to reload. Simple yes, but a bit too simple for hardcore gamers. Attack of the Movies 3-D is a nice diversion for kids or for older players looking for a retro-arcade experience but ultimately it fails to engage for any length of time. Rent this one...

I got curious about this game when it was first released because of the 3D element. Then the price came down rapidly and I decided to try it out without renting it first. The game has proven to be a good deal; it's basically exactly what it claims to be.

The game is a first person shooter on rails. This means you don't see your character. All the game action is focused on you being you and seeing what the screen shows you. "Rails" means you don't have to move your character. The game moves you along at a prescribed pace or moves you to the next scene once you've killed all the bad guys on the current scene. The rails aspect is great for people like my wife who get motion sickness when they try to move around in first person, free motion games like Metroid Prime 3 or Real Heroes: Firefighter. Rails is also good for smaller children or older adults who enjoy things kept less complicated.

This game includes both elements of competition and teamwork (which I thought was smart of the designers). Each player earns points for what they shoot, so there is an area to compete with the other players. But, the life-meter at the top of the screen counts for everyone playing, so just because you shot every target on your side of the screen, if the other side of the screen gets zapped by a green bug ball, or choked by a zombie, everybody loses health together. This promotes a desire for everyone to work together to blast the bad guys, and is probably a good growth tool for young sibbling players.

The targets are things like bugs, sharks, zombies, ghost skulls, and robot space ships with minimal (if any) gore when they are shot. My wife (who loves all animals except certain bugs) wasn't crazy about shooting the sharks, so I told her they were robot sharks. Other than that, I think it's safe to say this game does not really promote violence (in my completely unproffessional opinion).

My grandmother played it and had the most difficulty figuring out which of the four sighting targets was hers. This didn't take too long to sort out and she zapped two bugs herself in four player mode. Not bad for an 86 year old who refuses to get a computer.

On "easy" mode my wife and I made it to the second to last stage the first time we played it. We did die a lot and had to replay some scenes several times until we figured out how to destroy the bad guys before they killed us. We only decided to quit before getting to the end stage because it was bed time, but it was fairly challenging. We haven't tried the higher difficulty settings yet, but it's nice to know they are there in case easy mode gets too easy.

Concerning the 3D; I have to give both a good and bad review. It gave me a headache and some discomfort in my eyes after playing about ten minutes. My wife thought it was okay, but commented that she found it easier to aim and shoot the targets in 2D mode without the glasses. The 3D effects are neat; about the same quality as other 3D televison items I've seen on DVD. This aspect might be more fun for kids than adults. Or it might be more fun for most adults, but not so much for me.

Despite the 3D issues, I'm still rating this game 5 stars because I think it has a lot of potential to work well in a variety of audiences. I think it would make a good birthday present for a 6 year old, but also make a good addtion to the Wii collections of hospitals, retirement homes, schools, churches, etc. It lives up to it's family-friendly intent (no bad language, only movie-style fantasy violence) and is fun for all ages.

I am a casual gamer and a grown man. I am unable to beat the first level (and yes, I used the "megashot" cheat code). After several hours, I am sick of shooting the same bugs over and over and over.

Unless you beat the first level, you are not allowed to play the other levels. This is a flaw in any game marketed for casual gamers but especially when the first level is boring and annoying.

Without the ability to skip the insect level, the game is essentially worthless to me. Most importantly, the game is not fun.

Well, what can I say, the game sucks. We haven't been able to get past the first level. Whenever you die, you start from the very beginning. What kind of crap is that. I'm tired of doing the same level over and over, and I'm playing it on easy. Yes, I suck at this rail shooter crap, but I have other rail shooters that I'm able to play just fine. Dead Space Extraction is one of them. It wouldn't be so bad if at least the game let's you choose what movie to play, but it only lets me play that stupid bugs mission.
