I grabbed this when it was on sale over the holidays. The reduced price made it worth picking up. Even though I had heard some pretty negative things about the game, it seemed to be exactly the kind of game I tend to like. A true adventure with a fantastic world and a great quest.

It turns out the bad things I had heard were spot on. The acting in this game is so bad, I can only assume it was done by complete armatures. And unfortunately, the story of the Majin and the hero need to be told through this really bad acting. But the world and the main characters do have some charm and you just may find the world a fun place to spend some time.

The combat also suffers from its share of issues and tends to lend itself to button mashing. Animations can take to long and allow for what feels like very cheap hits. The camera can betray you and leave you wondering which way is up. And the Majin can end up getting in your way instead of helping out.

But, despite these flaws, the game is still fun to play for the most part. Its a classic fantasy adventure and is nothing new but they gameplay does have you and the Majin working together to solve light puzzles as well as combat. This is where the game stands out. It does a pretty good job of making you feel connected to the Majin and you want to work towards leveling up his abilities as much as your own. The level design did seem kind of odd at times and the progress of getting new powers suffers from some pacing issues. A few times I was wondering if I had missed something or if I needed to progress and backtrack. This can lead to a bit of frustration. At least there is the much needed map because without that, I probably would have quit.

The world is also very colorful, though it has its dark side, and I really like the art style. The music? I am not sure. It must not be that memorable because I can't think of any impressions.

So, its a decent, Zelda style adventure game with some decent combat. Its not going to change the lanscape of gaming but its fun. The only real shame here is that giving a bit of polish and some time spent on acting and music, this could have been a very special game. Instead, it just an above average game with lots of potential. This would be a good rent or a good pick up once its price drops again.

A game that's wonderfully charming and sweet without ever becoming annoying or cloying, with a genuinely interesting story and characters that remain with you long after finishing the game. The gameplay feels at once traditional and unique with a good mixture of adventure, puzzle solving, exploring new areas, fighting/sneaking and unique friendship between two main characters..the overall experience is both remarkable and memorable with the rare ability to appeal to all age groups.

Highly recommended to those who enjoyed Ico, Zelda, Shadow Of The Colossus, Okami.

I don't understand the few reviews here... the game is a bit linear, basically multiple paths you can go down, but it doesn't force you down any one path at all. The graphic style and color scheme is awesome and the gameplay is a lot of fun. Like I said, this game offers nothing new, but it does have gameplay elements from Zelda, Uncharted, Tomb Raider, Sly Cooper, and more. This game seems like what the ICO sequal will be like, only less dark. Do you wanna bull through and fight hand to hand in the game? Go ahead, but it'll be hard. You can do that or scan the area and look for environmental hazards or traps you can use to smite your enemies. Everything from scaling walls and cliffs to working together with the Majin to using catapults and more was simply fun. And you can find this game some places for 22 bucks, and it's definitely worth that. 1UP just recently gave the game a "B".

Honest reviews on Majin and the Forsaken Kingdom - Xbox 360

This is a solid game. The gameplay is fairly simplistic and straightforward, the graphics are not phenomenal and the story is not incredibly compelling, but the relationship between the protagonist and Majin is endearing enough. The writing, not so much for the plot exposition but talking with the Majin, is so simplistic it sounds like a librarian reading a book to children, and kind of makes you wonder about the target audience, as the puzzles and combat are clearly out of the scope of a young kid. Clever puzzle design, nice varied collectables that feel like they are actually worth the effort, and it's a nice long game. Worth beating once and was worth the 20 dollars I paid for it. A nice, distracting ride for 12-15 hours or so given how much time you spend on the collectibles with a nice, clear sense of progression.

Majin and the Forsaken Kingdom will have you jumping into the role of a thief who oddly enough can understand animals. He is on a mission to steal something that could save the kingdom. What he doesn't fully realize is that the thing that he finds is a monster to the gods named Majin. It is with Majin that the thief is able to fight back against the evil entities that have overrun the kingdom. You'll have to face mighty foes to set the world free, are you man enough to do it?

Graphically this game looks stunning, the different areas of the game all have their own take on things without making it feel too disjointed. I do appreciate the fact that when you are changing outfits that you truly see what you changed into instead of getting a generic advanced look. The character design was also something I appreciated.

The music in the game seemed like your regular action RPG music, it didn't stand out, but it didn't distract from the game. I will say that the voice of Majin repeating certain phrases over and over again did get to me after a while, but the fact that not only you but your lumbering giant had lines was a nice touch.

I didn't have too many issues with the controls that were provided for the game, I really wish that there was a blocking mechanism to the game, but the actual control scheme didn't seem to really hinder me in anyway.

This game had so much potential. I would have been happy to have a few enemies stand in my way from time to time to distract me from trying to solve the many puzzles in the game to help me advance through the game, but there was just way too many enemies constantly being there. The reason why this, in my mind, took away from the game is because the battle mechanisms weren't good. The fighting seemed loose, there wasn't a block control, sure you could roll, but I wanted to be able to be a true fighter in the battles. To be honest the computer controlled Majin was way more polished than the controlled character. You will get to interact with several animals that will give you hints and ideas of what to do next, but to be honest half the time you already knew what you had to do, and you just wanted to get through the talking part to get back to the action. What is ironic though, was that there were quite a few moments where you have no idea what to do next, where there were no animals.

I did like the fact that you could issue basic commands to Majin to get him to stay, attack, kneel, execute a special attack, or roar. I also liked the fact that he could be a stepping stool to get to higher places, not to mention a medic to heal your wounds.

the biggest issue I have with this game, above all else, is the fact that there are too many times where I got lost and didn't know where to go and found myself having to backtrack to different areas in hope that I could figure out what the next step would be. That of course led to extra rounds with the freshly spawned enemies, that if I tried to rush through only left me with frustration because I'd have to play that section again.

I hope that there's another game, and I hope that they make it a bit more streamlined, and change the focus of combat to just puzzle solving. That is a game I'd really like to play. Sadly though until then I've got to rate this game and I'm going to have to give it a 5.5 out of 10.
