Being utterly, utterly disappointed with the original F.F. 13, I was convinced I would not buy this game. And especially not the collector's edition. Yet, Amazon somehow baited me into buying both the Collector's Edition + The Official Strategy guide for $100. FML.

Anyways, a few pleasant surprises in regards to the COLLECTOR's EDITION:

1) The packaging is top notch. The art book that they hyped up as being part of the case is actually just a few pages long, so that was disappointing. However, everything has a high quality feel to it.

2) The Music CDs 4 CD's long, and they are elaborately encased. Very nice to look at. I listened to a few of them, and if you have a decent speaker system they will sound pleasant. I didn't feel like the music was overly awesome or anything compared to previous FFs, but they are pretty nice to listen to and match the game very well.

These are the only benefits of the collector's edition. Well worth the extra $10-$20 though, in my opinion at least.

ALSO NOTE: THE GAME ONLY REQUIRES 1 DVD FOR XBOX 360, as opposed to the 4 from the original FFXIII. A huge plus in my opinion.

As to the gameplay itself, it's a huge step up from FFXIII. I hated the linearity and utter lack of NPCs to interact with and such. It's fun to play and very visually pleasing, but this is by no means the best Final Fantasy or anything. If you are a fan, though, definitely worth buying. If you're not a FF fan, then you'll probably find this game pretty good but by no means spectacular.

I'd give this game an 8 out of ten. If you like the battle system used in 13 then think of my review as a nine out of ten instead of an 8. To me, the battle system relies too much on the the auto-battle button. Sure, you can can pick the abilities yourself, but this just isn't practical later on in the game. Most of the strategy lies in split second decisions in switching your roles and this does lead to some intense moments but i prefer a battle system more like the one used in 10.

I personally like the quick time events but there aren't that many and you catch monsters in the game and use them as your third party member but i don't really care one way or another for this. I do actually like that you only have two characters, I always have trouble picking which characters to use for other games because i usually like them all.

The story is told in an episodic format and the story to me was good but not great. It just didn't have the emotional impact of other games in the series. I can't really pin point why this is but it could be do to the fact that the story is really short. However, I thought the ending was great. It could have been amazing though if some earlier things were done better in the story. Some people have complained about the game "not being finished" and yes it does say to be continued but the game does tell a pretty complete story for the two main characters and some of whats happening with other characters can been found out in the game through side content. The dlc thats going to come out sounds like it's going to be side story's and not come after the ending so it's not like you have to buy it to complete the story.

There are multiple endings but only one "true" ending, however, the others are interesting and give you some important information.

There is a lot of content and side things to do and I found them fun but they could have been more interesting, a lot of the side quests are fetch quests.

The setting of the game is varied and beautiful, the soundtrack is one of my favorite in the series, and the characters are likable.

I must sound like i didn't like the game that much, but I really did enjoy it a lot. Compared to other games out today this game is great, just comparing it to say, my favorite final fantasy games 8 and 10, it's not as good.

I, unlike others, will be reviewing the entire collectors edition. The collectors edition, as pictured for a very low price, comes complete with: the game itself, an artbook, and a 4 disc soundtrack which provoked me into getting this in the first place. I haven't played the game so I'm not going to review it, but the other things i will. The game disc seems different than the standard game disc i suppose. It is very shiny and made to look like its made out of platinum. The artbook, unfortunately sucks. It has wonderful artwork but its nothing more than, i will say a few pages long and the paper itself tricks you into thinking that its thick considering the pages are. Now the main thing about the collectors edition is the soundtrack. No, its not a sampler and no, its not limited either, its the COMPLETE soundtrack, with over all 75 songs of the game. For $40 this is no where near a good deal, this is a bargain. The game alone costs about $20 which is no where near bad but the soundtrack is about $35 officially but considering how many people are selling it for over $75 Square Enix must be very generous.

Game: N/a

Artbook: 3/5 (it had wonderful artwork)

soundtrack: 5/5 (complete with complete song list as well in english.)

overall: 4.5/5
