Just wanted to add my experience with this USB adapter. I followed the "most helpful" review (updating the driver thru device manager) but I couldn't get the adapter and the xbox wireless controller to link. I pressed the "link" button on both the adapter and wireless controller but the xbox controller would just continually blink.Looking at more reviews, someone mentioned to google "microsoft xbox 360 accessories 1.2" Downloaded, installed and went back to Device Manager to update the driver for the USB adapter instead of picking "Xbox 360 Wireless Receiver for Windows", I selected "Xbox 360 Controller for Windows Version 2.1.0.1349 [8/13/2009]" The minute I picked this, my wireless xbox controller immediately linked to the USB adapter.
* Device Manager
* right click on Unidentified Device ("Xbox 360 Wireless Receiver for Windows" if you followed McClendon's review) and choose "Update Driver Software"
* "Browse my computer for driver software"
* "Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer"
* select "Xbox 360 Controller for Windows Version 2.1.0.1349 8/13/2009", then click "Next"
* click "Yes" on the Update Driver Warning popup window
This adapter saved me some money I would have hated buying a wired Xbox controller! I'm now enjoying Skyrim on my Samsung Series 7 Gamer laptop. I just now have to transfer my Xbox 360 Skyrim gamesaves to my laptop and I'm good... :)

Really there isn't a whole lot to say. This allows you to use your wireless Xbox 360 controller on your PC. The drivers included didn't work for me on my Windows 7 64-bit machine, but I just grabbed the official Microsoft ones from their website and everything worked like a charm after that. Turning on the controller and it recognizing the PC is actually faster than turning it on and waiting for the 360 to recognize it, so that's a nice feature. It also performs exactly like a 360; no lag, great battery life and you never have to even bother with it once you hook it up.Honest reviews on Wireless Pc Usb Gaming Receiver for Xbox 360/xbox360
This works great. Bryan's instructions in his July 18 2012 review was very helpful. It was missing a few steps though. Here's a more detailed set of steps based on his:1. Plug the USB converter into the computer. It will not be able to find the right driver.
2. Right click on Computer
3. Go to Properties
4. Click on Device Manager
5. Right click on the Unidentified Device
6. Go to Properties
7. Go to the Drive tab
8. Click on "Update Driver"
9. Click "Browse my computer for driver software"
10. Click "Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer"
11. Select Microsoft Common Controller for Window Class
12. Then select "Xbox 360 Wireless Receiver for Windows"
13. Agree to "Update Driver Warning"
14. Once the driver is successfully installed, then go to Microsoft's website to download and install the software: http://www.microsoft.com/hardware/en-us/d/xbox-360-wireless-controller-for-windows
15. Reboot
16. Now, you'll turn on your XBox controller, and click the tiny button on the front of the controller. Then click the connect button on the USB adapter. They should detect each other and you'll see a little message on your computer screen.
17. Then when you tab the big Xbox button on the controller while on your Windows desktop, you'll see a small pop-up that will tell you the battery level of your controller. That's a good confirmation that everything is set up correctly.
