I have a first-generation XBox 360, and this adapter is the cheapest, easiest way to get optical audio out of old XBox 360s. I bought this for my Turtle Beach surround sound headset and it has worked great. Note that a surround sound signal is also sent through your HDMI port, so you won't need this if you aren't looking to connect your XBox to a surround sound system via HDMI.

I really can't review this product because I didn't receive a Microsoft brand Adapter. I ordered this one to replace a generic one I bought last year that has the issue where if you change inputs on your tv or receiver it reboots your Xbox. I was under the impression that it was the Microsoft brand adapter, it was not. I contacted 2 separate sellers asking if it was Microsoft and they both said no. buyer beware. Chances are you will not receive a Microsoft brand adapter. So you have a 50/50 chance of getting an improperly wired adapter. I'm not trying to bash any sellers I left appropriate feedback for the seller I bought from as well so I won't mention which seller it was here. 3 stars, trying to stay neutral.
