I don't know why this game received all of the bad reviews from critics but let me say this game is pretty awesome. Beautiful graphics and simple gameplay that you can get addicted to within a matter of seconds. If you like the Ratchet and Clank or Jak and Daxter games, you will definitely like this game.

This is my first Amazon review ever. I know people say that a lot, but I'm doing it because I want to level out some of the mixed reviews it's receiving. I'll admit after reading some of the initial reviews, I was hesitant to even open my copy. I decided to take the plunge, especially with all the buy 2 get 1 free deals. At least I hadn't paid full price.GAMEPLAY: I'm now a few hours in on Knack and I really can't support the sub-par reviews. The gameplay is excellent and that is what this game is about! It's sort of like Crash Bandicoot meets God of War. What's even more reason to get it is the local coop. It's perfect if you want to play with family, friends, or a girlfriend/boyfriend who don't normally play video games. The controls are simple, just a few basic moves like jump, attack, special attack, and dodge. I will say the the game has it's challenging moments. Playing on easy, maybe normal, the first time through is advised.
STORY: The storyline is your basic tale and seems pretty linear. It's enough to be interesting, but it's not it's driving factor. I'm not far enough into the game to say much more on this.
GRAPHICS: The game is very pretty, even if it is cartoon-like. Both the character and environment details are crisp and clear and you can tell it's a next-gen title. Knack has so many moving parts and I've found myself pausing to admire it more than once.
CONS: The reviews I've read take issue with the story, the cinematic sequences, and the fact that Knack's abilities are restrictive. I'd like to comment on those. No, don't play this game for the story. It doesn't make the game and that's ok. The important thing is it's not a deal breaker. Yes, the cinematic sequences do begin somewhat unexpectedly and are seemingly things that the player could have done themselves. Here again, it doesn't affect the game enough to be harmful. Knack's size and his power-ups are determined by the games design. So yes, the game does limit Knack on how big he can be, and what special abilities he has to take on the baddies. I think the game should have allowed a bit more freedom and let the player choose how they want to approach certain situations.
OVERALL: Sony was up front in saying this is a second purchase kind of game, and I think that's the best way to put it. It's also the reason you should buy a second controller. This game is exponentially more fun with a friend! Either way, the gameplay is worth the purchase, especially if you bought two games and need a third option for free. My biggest (but not big) complaint with the game is the fact that it limits Knacks size and abilities based on the area. I'd like a little more leeway on how I play the game. For that reason, I would give it 4.5 out of 5, but I can't so I rounded up.
Best Deals for Knack (PlayStation 4)
UPDATE:I beat the game over the weekend and without spoiling anything I think it turned out to be a great, sometimes frustrating, experience. In some places I felt like I was cheated being killed with one hit and that's where co-op game will help you a lot while playing it. If the second player dies, you don't have to go back to a previous checkpoint. When I was playing on my own I died so many, many times and when I found out how much I had to play again I wasn't happy because I had already used my power ups.
Another thing you should do is get the mobile app (I got it for iPhone) so it can help you get some of the pieces for gadgets to use during the game, it's your typical 'Bejeweled'style game but if it helps get those gadgets faster, sounds good to me.
Yes, the story is predictable and the script is VERY cheesy, but I would not rate this game as bad, on the contrary I stand by my first review that it's a 'Great Launch title for the PS4'
ORIGINAL:
I wasn't really impressed when they first announced this game a few months ago. I definitely changed my mind!
As it has already been showed in several presentations before, the game style is very similar to what you would expect from games like Crash Bandicoot and maybe it's just me but I got a feeling it was also similar to Banjo Kazzoie, bringing a lot of really fun memories from a while ago.
My friend and I spent a couple of hours dedicated to the co-op mode only. It was fun, challenging while easy to get into it too. There are a few games that include a good co-op mode in the same screen lately. Most new titles focus more on the online experience but forget that some games were meant to be played with a friend, in the same room. I'm not sure if Knack will be considered one of the greatest Sony exclusives ever but it is definitely worth the money (especially with that deal they had "Buy 2 get 1 free") and time. Since Watch Dogs was delayed (I know it wasn't an exclusive but it was my go-to launch title). This and Killzone will have to make up for it for a few weeks at least.
Also, it's really cool seeing the character grow from a very small one to a HUGE powerful one!
I agree with one comment I read about the game somewhere that the levels are sometimes as amazing and epic as the ones you can find in God of War games
Summary:
-Graphics. The cartoonish style looks so real (You'll understand when you see it). Definitely an improvement from the previous gen but nothing crazy impressive. It will probably be outperformed by titles later in this generation. But for the time being, it looks great!
-Co-op mode is a blast. Probably the best reason to get a second controller right away
-Fun
-Engaging story
-Good variety of things to do

I had to say something
Knack is a GOOD game
it's not perfect but no game is
it's a beatem up game with a very cartoony feel to it
it's very simple game to play, but yet you lose from time to time
cause it's hard when your not ready for it
this game may not be worth 60$
and I understand that... but I hope to give my 60$ to help become a big hit game
because it has a LOT going for it :)
